oh yes, sorry... I should have explained better. She got beaten up by her boyfriend (Chris Brown, 19, R&B singer)... he hurt her (Rhianna, 20) quite badly. The children are unbelieving as he is such a 'nice guy' and has spoken out against domestic violence in the media in the past

just reading about all these darling cats that got sick and died from a catfood imported from Canada
oh dear I didn't hear about that
Today the cats' owners are going public to warn others about the dangers of irradiation, which is a quarantine process all imported pet food must undergo before it is able to be sold in Australia. They believe the chemicals used in the treatment broke down ingredients in the Orijen food, causing it to become rancid, and poisoned the animals.
what a shame
we have such strick quarantine procedures with all our foods, but this is ridiculous! Those poor animals

it is a show about 10 'beautiful' people, over 10 weeks... they put them into the 'house', then introduce 3 people a week (new residents). They have to become accepted, or face elimination.... so they strut around like peacocks and try and get everyone on side!
the vanity is incredible!! they totally love themselves!! survival of the bitchiest it seems
the only thing a show like that has to offer is to make people like us feel better about ourselves

I know. And I think they are trying. There are so many theories about what is needed, anywhere from much, much larger infusions of capital to letting things just die off. We, and much of the rest of the world, spent a long time working ourselves into this utterly unrealistic web of greed and dreamlike asset prices.....there's a long way to fall before we have our feet on the ground again, and many people, especially those with the least, are going to be terribly hurt.

Once, though, when she was a kitten, she managed to get up onto the rafters in my bedroom - these rafters are about 12 foot off the floor (we have a doublle height room). I remember going through that building, as a kid, for the tour and those enormous copper vats; they were incredible. I actually have a beer glass from the brewery......coveted by several family members
The Schmidt Family, which owned and operated the Brewery and company, elected to sell to Heilemann's Old Style Beer Company in 1982. Heilemann's was subsequently purchased by Pabst in 1983
yes, and it smelled so very very good -- I loved how warm the room with the vats was.

As with many other regional breweries, ownership of this brewery eventually passed through several corporations including Pabst, G. Heileman, and Stroh's, until the brewery was eventually purchased by SABMiller.
Ah, thanks BR -- acquisitions all over the place.
Miller closed the Olympia brewery on July 1, 2003 citing the unprofitability of such a small brewery.
And now the big thing really is "microbrews" -- getting the beer locally again. The more things change...
it really doesn't matter who sold what to whom......it's just sad when something so historical goes under regardless of what it is.

well, now the predicament...windows side of 'puter (mac-mini, partitioned for both Win and Mac OS) suffered a mal-virus and nearly crippled me in midst of finishing a grid last week. IT folks at work told me to just go Mac, erasing Windows on the c:drive...in so doing, my external drives now cannot be added to because Mac doesn't give me - the ADministrator - any rights...big security issue on Mac side. Understandable, but now can't move files into safer places using Mac...

as a a guidance counselor, i am aware of how different it is for the children who have made more than one move in their young lives... has its advantages and disadvantages, as do many situations
I can speak from experience about at least some of the trials and tribulations...but in the end...I wouldn't trade it for the world...
I've been to, visited, and/or lived in 43 states and 13 countries in my lifetime.. ;)
exactly - it had to have caused some hardships... but in the long run... many good things have come from it
...I have a sister-in-law who was born and raised in the same place...left the state the first time on a date with my brother...
...they live in Germany now (for about the last 12 years)...and absolutely love it.

love to travel, but do get stuck in the same places..... just planned a trip to paris, my favorite city, for my 60th birthday. with all my kids.. meanng lots of $$. been to paris four times since 2000, but still need to go back

this came up at the drunken dinner tonite with my sons... we usually go to martha's vineyard every summer... and will this summer. but I needed something special for 60 and had always thought it would be an alaskan cruise, but tonight realzied that if they wanted paris, so did I!

I'm a Business Manager for two smaller departments on campus (one is a Master's program, the other is for undergrads and grad certs)

Actually, I do...keeps me very busy...although lately is been a bit overwhelming...we're moving one of the departments (my primary) across campus to a new space with only 6 weeks notice (and planning the move while classes and other regular work in the middle of term is the only part that has been hair raising).
yup - challenges and adversity do keep it new, don't they?

oh no. K - 8, which means realliy counseling, not guidance. love it.. every day something different
and a chance to make a difference in their lives, help some who really need it.. nothing could be more satisfying
I don't ever really remember counselors in elementary school...what kinds of things are kids experiencing nowadays??
I hear ya on helping those who really need it...it's rather fun working with freshman...still rather "wet behind the ears"...
...just being a good role model gives them some comfort. ;)
it runs the gamut.. from divorce at home. to parents being put in jail, beatings, incest, drug abuse by parents.... to friends who won't play with them,,, anger management, impulse control.. poor social skills ( a lot of this seems to point to incompetent parents, now that i think of it)

how are you coming along with the list? be sure to let me know if you want any helpful hints...

oh i dont know. I think folks today are probably doing the best they can, just need better modeling or something
and material things seem to matter more. when i wa growing up, if you didn't have a color tv, so be it. today you need so many expensive toys. people barely putting food o the table still have to own these expensive game boxes.. x boxes, etc
perhaps...I wonder if part of it is a result of "respect" or lack thereof (oh, how times have changed)...the idea of an adolescent not using a title for an adult still gets me...things as simple as that...
