we had laying hens once..up here they are a pain in the butt as a hobby,especially in the winter,heating lamps,bales of hay and you still go out there some morning to find that one of the stupid things stood in one spot all night in his water dish while it all froze around his ankles,not to mention the ones that get a taste for egg shell.that happens if you dont get out there twice a day and grab those eggs and they step on one..

free range is best mrp with a nice big fenced paddock leading to thier little chicken barn
and to keep thier floor/straw clean..they get this foot disease otherwise
thier feet swell and they cant stand and you end up with all theese birds falling over all the time
and clean poop[ free water(they love to poop in thier water supply) or they get rickets

I only adopt mixes though, simply because they are less adoptable and more in need of a home. Purebreds get snapped up much quicker . . .

i use to be like that jac...only taken me 4 years to get over it!! i still get slight hot flushes but mowt like i use to. i use to have a fan right by my side of the bed going full pelt every night...use to drive hubby up the wall as he'd be cold...lol

I also keep a cold, wet flannel folded into a small oblong beside my bed. It helps a lot if you slap it on your forehead or neck when the sweat strikes.
Satin sheets sound so sexy but they aren't - you slide out of bed every time you move, or the covers slide off, plus they can become full of static.
I cannot begin to imagine how uncomfortable that must make you.
i tried hrt when i first had my hysterectomy(i know i've spelt it wrong...lol)but i got really bad headaches so i stopped them, then i tried dofferent herbal tablets and then i changed my diet which helped the most and now i just seem to be getting over it

I used to smoke many years ago. One Christmas my father was very ill in hospital. We thought he was dying and I thought, what do you get a dying man for Christmas. I asked what he wanted and he said for me to stop smoking. All the insentive I needed. Haven't had one since.

I think I have a funny giving-up-smoking story. I was a real chain smoker (hubby had quit) and my grandkids began to bug me about it. So did my son, and then they moved from Montreal (where we were) to BC. Air Canada made a no-smoking rule on their planes. I decided I couldn't stand 5 hours on a plane without a ciggie, so went the Nicorettes route, plus some plastic fake cigs which dragged like the real thing (Paipo, a Japanese invention). And off we went to visit the family in BC, only to find son had taken up smoking again. Never mind -- I stayed abstinent.
Frances - I wouldn't dream of drinking those.

Lady - you can actually almost get the kick from the first drag on the fag if you suck on it but don't light it. I found a good thing you sniff called 'Logado' years ago. It's great for giving you that 'hit' in places where you can't smoke. The plastic cigarettes are also quite good.
I'm so glad to be rid of those stinking overflowing ashtrays.....
i tried the plasic cigarettes we get here, they are bloody horrible. i took one puff and it made my throat sore so didn't bother, and me and hubby bought the nicotine chewing gum and had one piece. i just used to buy normal gum and peppermints, much cheaper and better tasting....
Nicotine patches are a bit of a problem - you have one on but you still want to smoke. You do smoke and your heart rate goes up like mad.

you might try the patch, my hubby did it NOT the way they recomend, but it worked, he did the big dose fore 3 weeks, then the next for 4 weeks, and on an on until he cut a 7 mg patch (smallest) in half for another 6 weeks, then finally nothing. IT wiorked, he smoked for 40 yrs some cannadian brand, he was smoke free finally

oh yes, after I quit the Nicorettes, I chewed gum for several years. Used to get Ordermarks at school for even thinking about chewing gum. None of that now!
we actually both used the patch when we flew to Malaysia last summer (12 hours). I was planning to quit then, but hubby brought cartons of cigs.
we spent a fortune on all the smoking things to give up and either hardly used them or didn't use tham at all. we wasted alot of money
