Hello, westford! :)
ty nan odd word
hi JC
warning Pope: - once you start you can't stop!
that is a new one for me, nan.
I was talking about you to my daughter tonight
down to 11, but crashing -- will finish tomorrow :)
nice job, nan!
Inspiring NanQ
10
she and her husband are mostly vegetarians and I said I'd send the recipe in your profile hope it's still there
oops - meant to type Nan!
nice job nan good night and take care
Oh me, you mean - yes, the recipe is still there . . .
good! I'll copy and send it then
are we competing against each other? do we see each others entries?
no eric but we all help each other with clues
generally we wait for the first hour to be up
is there a reason why you wait?
If you go to the link, westford - then look at the list of links, and click on the one that says 'The Saucy Vegan - Google' there is a lot of good information and excellent articles linked to, on that page . . .
never type a word from the grid in the chat though or you'll end up in the penalty box
most people like to try on their own first
Who did, westford? Not me I hope?
I don't want to end up in the penalty box! :/
It's lonely in there . . . :P
no JC just explaining the whys and wherefores of the game to eric
HHAHA, yes, I see - I'm just being silly! ;)
I just scrolled down and saw your info on the link I will send that to them too
Which, westford?
the saucy vegan
fi 6
they're more vegetarian though and do eat some fish
There is a link at the top of my profile - that's my Google profile - on there is a list of links on the right, click the one for 'THE SAUCY VEGAN - Google', and that has excellent info and links on it.
I am dead tired
Well, they ought to read that info, then . . .
it's early where you are eric
You'll see . . . ;)
but i wake up early for work. i teach
that can be tiring
what age group?
Hmmm . . . is one who sends a fax, not a faxer? :P
Made sense to me . . .
special ed, 4th, 5th, and 6th
that would be a faxperson
Oh yes, of course - we must be so PC these days! :P
that's quite challenging then eric do you love your work?
I almost said faxman lol
sounds like a super hero
indeed i do. its just the behaviors that can be draining.
hats off to you eric
wa 7 another new one for me
may i ask what you do westford?
morni ng all
I sit at home and play babble I'm 63

hi jilli are you home from bridge?
fireworks
yay, anike!
yay anike, congrats!!!
ty
yay anike!!
eric have you seen the series the Universe?
Any clues needed?
yes of course, but even better is cosmos by carl sagan. a timless classic.
anoke is the st8 related to the body opening?
the st 8? (still don't see it) :(
we have that one too first saw it on TV in the early 80's
st 8 is a combo word - st 4/5 + wa 4/8
st8 is the type of glasses for wine
then got the VHS tapes and now have it on DVD
yes west, home from a horrible evening of bridge, lol!
oooh ok...not seen that before
Blu Ray is next I guess lol
ty anike and aloy
oh no jilli just didn't have the cards?
heh, yeah... did you hear of the new dvd technology?
thanks!
poor jilli, her partner is a lovely lady but when it comes to bridge, all mistakes are made by someone else
yw rolin..
no what is it?
I know exactly what you mean flosey
I need to finish laundry so must go - bye
I played with someone once who'd say things like 'I look like the queen of spades' while looking at her hand
bye, anike, don't work too hard!
bye anike..
bye anike throw in a load for me
on the news this morning, i heard something along the lines of " the new dvd technology will be enable a dvd to hold a hundred movies."
now I like the sound of that!!
but what if you lose it? lol
is there an str word?
heh
got good cards, west, but they were tricky and partner and I were not on the same wavelength
I also played very badly.
not sure rolin don't have the list yet
Hello, Jilli! :)
no str word
just cant think how that single 's' can work
I don't believe it was that one sided jilli
ty mayneguy
how are you doing eric?
hi JC, m'deah
hi MGuy
st5 - uses all the s's
hi MGuy too
:)

I'm good. I meant how are you doing with the words.
It's a place, JC -- where the ferry leaves the mainland for Vancouver Island at Swartz Bay
right jilli - going to double check the bridge scores, bbs
we're getting a new roof in the morning so it will be noisy for a few days
haha, i have a few words
Oh I see, Jilli . . .
if you scroll down to Friends of Babble and click on Lickety's Babble Clues ( right click ) it will be a big help
has the first 2 letters of each word and the letter and point count
the nicest thing about these grids is you get 24 hours to do them
JC did you have hail yesterday?
well, im about to hit the old hay. have a wonderful night everyone.
take care eric hope to see you again
say hello to Tony the Tiger
bye Eric.. sweet dreams of Babble, lol.. see you next time

It's dull and looks quite foggy now - supposed to get storms later.
hi Flosey
2 people mentioned it one in Northern Ireland the other in Holland
Oh . . .
not that common over there is it?
Lau came first E/W! Jean & Isabelle first N/S

NBT

HAHAHA, westford - that's funny! No, nobody's brain was smashed, in the creation of that recipe! :P
Doing much better than me, Jilli . . .
I should hope not!!
really, JC? I can't imagine!
Yes, Jilli - you have NBT, but I don't! :/
Yes, that soup sounds wonderful -- just wish I didn't have a gas problem, to put it daintily
but I bet you have a lot more mords than I do, JC
What soup?
more WORDS, sigh
Don't know, Jilli - I only have 88 words, so far.
your smashing brain thing
har thing to put daintily jilli
I only have 84
That isn't soup, Jilli - it's a casserole.
I only have 38
oh no what have I done?
If I put enough wine in it it will be soup, lol
you just got here jilli
Yes - but YOU were able to find the 'S' word in the third row, fourth column - which I can't for trying! :/
yes, west
So you're still doing better than me! :P
JC add something you do to a ball
or think of those who imbibe
st 5/10
Lost me . . . especially this early in the morning! :P
oh no -- that's the wrong S -- I got it from a clue way down below here which I saw when I scrolled down nearly an hour ago
s and t*** the ball to me
so not the lonely s?
that's the one, west
Oh!!! Thank you . . . would never have known that was a word?!
that's the lonely S, west
never heard it either JC
JC - is that a picture of you in your profile or someone you admire?
heehee -- if I say it's both, she, JC may bonk me on the head
Consider yourself bonked . . .
OMG!!!
LOL!
it's perfectly all right to admire yourself
hi hi ho ho hi hi

hello kazz

hi kazz
wast
you're easy josh?
hi Kazz
oh I see you got NBT
i'm easy. i think it was 2 or 3 minutes
if not for the lone s I would have had a similar time
all the others came in a flash
even the evil vowels
yeah, i guessed and got it 2nd or 3rd try
boohoo, nobody posted a chair icon -- I thought that would have been a fun one.
Was that the theme, Jilli?
I will jilli I got fireworks with less than a minute to go and was here for the flip been playing and talking ever since
I tried to do the closet but like you jilli mine are all very neat
I"m a virgo
yes, JC -- you can nearly always get the theme in my profile
I never get pretty fireworks - only a bunch of rusty old wire forks! :P
I saw your forks earlier JC
Yes, a bunch of pitchforks - for a devil? ;)
i'm a virgo as well
I'd better polish up my fake halo . . .
halfway
golly gee, monkeyed the en7
well hello fellow virgo josh
are your closets neat too?
Well, then you are better than me, Jilli . . . told you!
amazing, josh
my closets are very, very far from neat
still only 50 words though
you have years to feel guilty then
en7, eh
I have 93 now - but you'll soon catch up.
clue for that lonely i please
ir5 very angry, andree
My brain isn't awake yet, at all . . .
not likely, JC -- I'll probably head for bed before I get to 93
my brain is going to sleep...well, actually it's been asleep all evening, hence the rotten bridge
thx josh
oh, that needlecase again!
just got it jilli
ah, thanks jilli - i always forget about that one
I don't see it there?
I don't care for that spelling
Or is there another word for it? :/
neither do I
this one is the anglicized version
phonetic spelling, JC
that too
I don't even see that - am I blind?
it goes round in a circle
<- Looks for reading glasses.
start north and go west
Seems I can only go east?
I'm lost . . .
hands JC a compass
I think I need a map! :P

Wish me lots of luck - I'm certainly going to need it!
Yes, I have the phonetic lispy needlecase, thanks! ;)

you're a giving soul mrp
give to yourself for a change, mrp!
i hope you plan to spend the 3 weeks looking after yourself
well, I have to sack someone tomorrow... icky
Sometimes, to benefit others one must benefit him or herself.

I'd hate to have to do that

That is true.
Oh and the loonies are finally running the asylum
you mean they weren't before?
No the teachers have lost the plot. Don't you put company logos on the left side as its the side that you see first?
usually yes
but i have more frequently seen them as headers or footers
Well our head of dep AFTER the invites were printed stuffed us in the behind and said the logo is wrong the school logo is on the wrong side. Seriously
ohhhhhh
We have 3 weeks left and the head dep screwed us.
what are you going to do?
Um reprint them and smile polietly
smiles
i think that would be a hard smile
Its not as though i can say jam it some where.

hi lady
Miss seeing you about Sprite
have been pretty regular for the last few days again, but can only play when energy allows. Flu is a pain in the butt :) Did you go to the lessons?
steps away from sprite, have just gotten over a nasty tummy bug, no wantee no more germies
can't say I blame you, jacq!
decides to live in small bubble and babble forever
Yes i did sprite and going tomorrow too. sigh
am so proud of you, lady. You're an example of how to be loyal to oneself.
Good morning, I need help with en7 please?
hi Marc
it's an extension of the fr5
Thanks got it, hi sprite
put a list around something.
I like the decision, jacq!
me too, must remember air holes and a feeding hatch just large enough for king sized bars of chocolate
I'd go all the way then and have a magic hatch in the bubble that delivers whatever you like on command
looks at sprite - magic isn't real
Sprite this morning was fun. We had rain. I can deal with. Then we had hail. Can't deal with then because i was waiting for the hail to stop i got to be very late. I had the b.f take me and he got in the poo at work
i hate the r's
brb ciggie break
as if you didn't have enough of a challenge, lady
tsk tsk jacq, don't blow MY bubble!
breaking ciggies is so much more healthy than smoking them. Wtg jacq.
Sorry but the 7's are tuff. tr7 please?
I believe that is a boat with 30 rowers/oars
oh no, 2 rows of oars it has
THREE rows of oars, darn silly fingers. Do you know the word or shall I break it down?
Sprite I opened the door and went rain oh well can deal with that. Hail oh ffs go away. hunny can you drive me
lol lady, good one
Yep But i wasn't rude. I poured him a cup of coffee.
Thanks got it

good going lady, creating win-win scenarios
Oh yes. I am not rude. I have learnt. Give coffee after you wake them up. he was very late too work
you're a dearheart, lady, never doubt it
I was rather annoyed at his boss telling him off
yup, rude boss
Yep. It has finally rained 27mil
is the 8 a compound? I don't need clues, just whether it is a compound or not, please?
there is a grid?
dunno sprite, haven't got it yet
ok, thanks anyway!
I suspect Marc of having the 8, since he is asking after the 7s, lol.
st 8 is a compound
yes it is a compound, from the st4 above it and keep heading down the grid
thanks both :) And hi BabbleRabble, glad to see you.
hello, sprite
got it, thanks again
what you must pay the government to have feelings is not a word :(
Hi Babs
**pounce on Herin** Hey Babble Family !
so, BabbleRabble, it is easier to love a wife than to love a husband... we already knew that! ;)
hi Aussie

I work in a warehouse Pink, for Waitrose.
hmmm. "one who moves planes around" is not a word!
awww 7 shifts sounds like hard word to me, still, at least you have a job. I know soo many people who's jobs are at risk
I bet that get busy Aussieme?
7 shifts is not so bad, its the a-holes I have to work with on this shift that is the killer.

It does... Zooz !! Lovely to see you !
soz...like you been doing lots of shifts, nice to be here though

:( I will miss you then Herin......
good morning (evening) everyone
JBVVVVVVVVV !!
I know its ok ill just lie here
and scrabs - we had our own share of hysteria/reality here yesterday with the air force flyover of NYC -
Hi JBV. How are you and hubby?
hi Aussie!
as the actress said to the bishop, herin!
hi JBV, and hi Scrabs!
i am so pleased to post a happy update: big milestone this week - hubby and I went for a walk!!
Oh LOLOL Trif !
and hi zooz
YAH JBV. Lol tris
WOOHOO JBV !
Yahooo for JBV's hubby! Making progress! Improving quality of life!
oh wow JBV! That is good news.
Hi Sprite
JBV, I am seeing the report of that plane now, on NBC
thank you everyone - you are good for my soul
*goes hunting for that w7*
((Babblers)) Great support community!
my response in situations like that (the plane) is to be amazed at how many people had to be involved to OK it, not just one person
Stupid & thoughtless decision.
got it ty
decisions.....
Why did they do a plane fly over in NYC?
Yes, to create such terror in people.
the WHite house said they wanted to update their photo file of the president's plane in landmark locations (statue of liberty)
but it was frightening for so many people
they did a really low flyover and scared everyone on the ground, so insensitive
Scrab, my daughter called me yesterday and asked if Ithought my gdaughter had Swine Flu.
I don't remember attending medical school
President Obama said he was "furious" - someone's head will be rolling today
jacq, wa7 ends in what sounds like an oak or elm etc. Starts as as a shame.
Oh, Bichon, there is such hysteria. I read www.cdc.gov twice daily to get the facts.
i finally managed to find it sprite, but ty for looking
hi bichon
good job jacq, of both of us, lol
i wish he'd channel more of his fury toward the "finance club"
I need more help with that wa7 please
and hello hursh
Hi Hurshy, and I agree
I am also amazed JMC that Obama would even say yes to a waste of $$$ when they could take a pic of the plane on the ground and then photo shop in liberty and such
The baby has a cold. My daughter works at a school for mentally disabled. They received an alert. Who does she call first, me Dr. Grandma
that's because she trusts her mom
Scrabs: past form of to be + he who attempts minus last letter
my kids call me all the time too
ohhhhhhh, my baby grand-daughter took her first steps yesterday
wa7, past tense of is + attempts - last letter.
the problem is, herin, he did not OK it - he seemed to be taken by surprise, as was the mayor of NYC
Bichon, people have to be educated about what is a flu illness and what is a cold or gastroenteritis.
I call my mother all the time too, but, hey - she was a physician for over 30 years, so there you go!
Cool Jacq !!
wow
Ohh Jac
woot jacq! Cool girl gooooo
what's the 8?
TY, Sprite :-)
yay for first steps!
a compound st, hursh
JBV i think someone in the publicity area is going to be booted. OH hi hurshy
the 8 is st8, a compound
When she calls, I turn to my trusty medical book: Google
speaking of firsts (not to offend those of other religions), my nephew said his first prayer on his own yesterday. dear... jesus... we love... MOMMY!
Cute, Hurshy!
very cute, hurshy -
oh, love that hurshy!
awwwwwwwwww, that's lovely and i fail to see how anyone could be so offended by that
thanks sprite and jacq
anyone have a clue for wa7,44 please?
awwww beautiful hursh! And not offensive to anyone, I'd say.
Ohhhhh Hurdhy that is so sweet.

enable is crazy. He who says mew neither.
nor the plane that slowly moves down the runway
70 down, and I must eat quickly and then shower. Bye kids. Enjoy the day!
aha, thanks sprite, got the en7
yes, I said that earlier too, hurshy, but I think I described it as one who moves planes, lol!
gmta!!!
enjoy Scrabs, am glad to have seen you
sprite, I bet the mew thing would work if it was french, like yesterday!
thanks!
name that proper noun! actor john of full house and ER and etc etc
I am looking for that re7 now.
lollll Trif, exactly!
stamos
ding ding ding!
we have a show here called "Millionaire Matchmaker" and the host swears that john stamos is the perfect match for jennifer aniston, and says they should get together
oh I got a RE7 now... to come across eachother again. Is that yours too?
sounds like an easy job with no ramifications
yes sprite
yep, and that's the only one, i have all the R's
great, only one 7 missing then and it is not an Re word.
the other 7 is either F or a second T or W. i have 4 words left.
go hurshy gooo! I still have 35 left.
think i may take my laptop tommorrow and wrangle doing the answers
sounds like a plan lady
rats, my 2 F's weren't even a combo, so now i still have one of them to find
tadaaaah spotted the russian ruler. *does proud happy dance*
should be a russian dance!
i thought russians were too glum to dance
oh darn Trif, don't you know how strong your leg muscles have to be for those dances??
russians dance fantastically, full of fi4.
i believe in you, sprite! you can do it!
*miffed because nada is a word but rien does not count*
oh right, trying to forget the general glumness!
hint for the en7?
en + picture holder
wait, got it.
paired with a fr5, bichon
that makes one of us then, Trif!
well done you!!!
ty Trif, your name is in here, but I guess you know already
Trif owns this grid
triffie in the corner pocket!
the tr 7?
and it's mostly my son's name,anyway....
bichon: ship with 3 rows of oars, bablet
3 somethinged ship
rows of oars, there ya go
why tw4 counts but not the equivalent 5 i cannot fathom.
me neither
ty hurshy and sprite
bichon: or he who attempts, switch last 2 letters, add I.
off for walkies with Bichon
but of course you didn't need another clue, which I saw when I had just hit enter, grinnn
bichon enjoy bichon
I may not be the best of cluers, but at least I am of good intentions...
oh jeesh. tw7, a scottish pair of people.
thanks hursh!
and with that, i'm off to the races. good day all
gratz and good luck, hurshy.
hurshy, wait please! clue for us ignorant yanks, please?
tw + vowel + not all but only ****
thanks sprite! yank got it!
wtg dear yank!
we aren't all horrible, you know!
I have yet to me4 my first horrible one
well, you are doing better than me then! we do have many the wrotten apple
I am in a better position... a lot of the people I me4 are on Babble and therefore usually quite nice :)
I do know a few horrible dutch people though
not many american tourists in your area then?
snuggles
I did encounter a very strange dutch woman last year - would refuse to say she was from holland, only "the netherlands"
no, not many and those that come, usually go to the Zaanse Schans (wind mills) and do not come in our village.
my dear neighbor is from holland - could listen to her talk all day, her accent is just lovely
pffft how silly. The Netherlands is correct, Holland is only the area around Amsterdam and The Hague, officially. But Holland will do for me!
argh yes, that accent we seem unable to lose. MonkeyGames told me I speak english very well, but with a plain dutch accent!
primo was killing himself laughing over his trip to Italy - apparently he and two other boys from the group "invaded malta"
lol
he wants to put it on his transcript for colleges -- along with "was Time's person of the year" - the year they put a mirror on the front, celebrating user content of the web....
oh brilliant!
uh oh. HUGE noise in hallway - apparently kitties just got into something big....and are still in it! brb
hurry back and tell us all about them :)
what the hey??? can find no evidence to show what all the barracking was! sounded like elephants running down the hall, and now - nothing. no mess, and no sign of the perpetrators....
as the hydrogen particle said after the bomb had exploded: now I am an exat4.
oh oh, that bodes ill, Trif. They are up to horrible mischief, somewhere out of sight!~
ha ha ha good one sprite!
sigh, I know.
but not a valid one, darn :P
my son used to love this one: how did the pig feel when he lost his voice?
disgruntled
roflol!
groan...and good morning
Hi Eva :)
morning eva!
In The Once and Future King they tracked "fewmets" which was supposedly the spore or droppings of wild beasts. Always thought it was a real word, but guess not.
I know! I tried 3 times to make sure.
Wasn't that a wonderful book?
one of my favorites
speaking of wild beasts - on the way home from the bus stop yesterday, a momma deer and her two sweet, sweet fawns were strolling through my woods - hope they show up again today1
Oh I wish we had deer around here. They are so beautiful. Enjoy them doubly for me, Trif!
I just looked it up and it is a medieval hunting term for the spoor of wild beasts.
will do!
"spoor" is a nice word for that.
Oh Eva how goes it?
My deer (or I guess they think of me as their human) are rather invisible right now, as there is no seed in thebird feeder any more and my garden isn't lush enough to destroy yet. I love them but are going to buy garlic spray and deer guard today.
fewmets is such a lovely word even if it isn't accepted by the stupid bable dictionary
*again kicks enable viciously into better behaviour*
eva, if you have a man about, ask him to um, "water" the yard for you - they don't like either. Poor Primo is so used to me....he just shuffles out there with an "I know, I know...."
so we can say fewmet and spoor but not pee??
lol, sprite. was trying to be polite....
LOL trif-we've tried it, both of us, and they couldn't care less. Very pushy deer around here. They've figured out that I am completely benign.
oh deer! sorry to hear that, eva!
hahaha I know Trif
stick with the garlic then. keeps skeeters away too, I think
hello all back for 31
Sorry i have the attention span of a gnat
Tried coyote urine too. They laughed.
hi ursh and lady, wb
they laughed!!!! oh, you slay me, eva!
roflol Eva
skeeters?
my sister had a group in her yard that could have rung her doorbell with their wee noses. no fear at all
mosquitos
Eva. What about human pee?
not good for the garden, I guess, but it sounds so lovely
thanks Trif, will remember
they are too bad, really. I could do without the deer ticks, however. lyme disease. feh
NOT too bad, even! Paging dr. Freud....
oops yes of course, that is risky
The garlic, or sulfur, or anything, works for a while and then they get used to it so one has to keep switching things around. They usualy wait until I'm away for a weekend and then invite all their friends for a garden rave party. But last year I finally put black plastic mesh over all of the raised beds, except the tomatoes, which they don't like, and things got much better. Although they threw a tantrum and wrecked a couple of tomato plants just for spite. Lyme disease is still not rampant this far north trif, but with the warming trend they are coming
*You have reached the Freud residence. My Id is out today, but leave a message for my ego if you like.*
Eva, I know folks who have had good luck with spreading that weird orange mesh stuff - the kind highway dept uses - on the ground around the gardens. the deer don't like walking on it, give up and go elsewhere. it's not pretty, but it does work, and you don't have to hang it up, just lay it down.
The true Freud answering machine would simply be silent and wait for you to free associate
good tip trif! Thanks
yeah but mine was funnier :P
yes it was
the wasband and I did a bril message once, if I do say so: we aren't in right now. if you are victorious, press 1. to say you in French, press 2. to play golf, press 4, to have our dog attack you, press 6; if you have already eaten, press 8. to say no in german, press 9. tee hee hee
always like that one....
liked, even
lolol Trif, love it
does wasband mean ex?
thanks sprite. means ex-ish, eva. don't know what else to call him.
ex-ish....has be become ectoplasmic?
giggles at wasband
don't I wish! there isn't a name that works, you see....estranged husband seems too dr. phil, douchbag tool seems a bit hostile in front of the children....sigh, it's a puzzle....
wasband is a great word
it works for now....
I am truly laughing out loud here. Thanks for starting the day off right trif!
i live to serve....:D
I'll have seconds
okay, I haven't entered a valid word in forever, and it is time for the school bus shuffle 2.0
be back soon!
bye for now, Trif
fireworks for me, I am off too. Bye all and thanks for the laughs!
bye sprite
hey tex
*thought trifs was making them walk*

hi
i don't see crap in the grid. ;-)
I am here i think
hahaha - you thought I'd just keep typing them in didn't you?
we were hoping, kje ;)
well... never know... when the chog is as laggy as this one, you can type quite a few before it clicks in
or maybe i am just holding on to the edge.
HANG ON HERIN!!!
no i don't think i can. I must away
*waves* have a nice fall
anyone here ever have dosa? mmmm.... but not a word
Loves must go to bed dragon lady teacher in the am

tight hand T? have the russian ruler...
oops - I mean the tr5 attempter, ruler comes from above T
bbl
Really? Afix is not a word? Afix this to that!
think it is double f
hi uni
And so it is. Obviously I don't use that word very often.
ok babblers, i need opinions. gonna get a plant for mom for mothers day (she prefers plants to flowers, as she can re-plant them in her garden) and im trying to narrow it down...
these are what im looking at: Gardenias Rozaleas Ranunculus Cycl amen Chrysanthemums (also 2 "mixed" plant baskets) any thoughts?
Something hardy is always my best bet. I have a bizarre fondness for cacti...
i have the tr5 attempter but I need the other one please
Amen? *looking some of these up*
Gerber Daisies
Cyclamen -- dunno why it split that one in two
they come back each year
uni, i think that is cyclamen
cyclamen
or I have a wonderful Butterfly bush
and the humming birds love it too
Gardenias are apparently gorgeous...I couldn't care less about gardening, but those are nice.
en7?
Gardenias are fabulous...and hello everyone
en + to surround a picture
i think im leaning toward the Ranunculus -- they sort of remind me of Dahlias...
ty
I like the vividity of ranunclus, provided google images is a reasonable likeness.
tr7 please
i like the Ranunculus flowers, but the picture of the arrangement is sort of lacking... so im trying to decide -- go with the nicer flowers that she can plant or go with the nicer initial arrangement?
Well, if they are going to be planted, it would make sense for what is beautiful in the garden, yes?
em5? I have the em, emotion
at
the mideast ruler...em5
thats my thought, uni. i just dont want them to arrive and for her to be disappointed initially...
That is a faux pas, ignore.
I would go casantherMUM for MOM :D
That's true. But I think it is also important that you like whatever it is you are sending her, for the connection and all that jazz.
clue for the 8 plz
my mother hates gardening and is alergic to flowers, but she loves them, so I sent her an edible cookie baseket of fowers.
oops what a spelling
in the past, i have sent her Hyacinths, Hydrangeas, and Violets, and she has loved them all.
chrysantherMOMS
:D
Will these look lovely with those? Flower names don't mean anything to me, lol.
i think they all look lovely together...heh... but that reminds me, i havent actually checked her garden in a while to see which poor plants have *survived*
I love gardenias. I would enjoy them as long as I have them. Dont have a garden (just a terrace) so I am not thinking long term. Why dont you send her favorite flower?
clue for the 8 plz
The pictures I saw of gardenias were absolutely gorgeous. And I tend to stick to Sunflowers (my big fave :D)
MM - no eight here. I'm listless thoguh
she doesnt really have a favorite...
I have lobelia and impatiens out now and it is so pretty
Eva first I think you should go and see which have survived then decide which of those on your list is the hardiest
What about tiger lillies
they come back and multiply
anyone have a clue for the tr7 please
ooh, lobelia are pretty -- never heard of those!
Things that take care of themselves are nice.
alas, i wont be able to visit before mothers day. its only 2 weeks away here...
EvaN, the color is amazing
tiger lillies arent really her style. she goes more for the pinks + purples...
Whoa, these lobelia are brilliantly blue and violet.
Uni, I have 2 tubs of lobelia out on my terrace now. Absolutely bluely fabulous
I live in NC, and got a Dwarf Japanees Maple and a Rose bush from Aldi's about 2 weeks ago and they have already grown 2-3 inches
i wish i knew more about gardening, so i could actually figure out which flowers are good for the area + will thrive there...
do you want tall or ground cover?
so no one has a clue?
have you looked at portulaka (spell)?
Eva...where iks there?
*where is there?
well, im looking at the different flower-sending websites. want to find a plant that makes a nice initial arrangement that she can later plant + will thrive.
oddle, tr7 is three + what sounds like a package of printer paper...
If you look up a gardening site (well, some) then they give a designation of how well they do in each zone. Obviously you would need to know your zone, but some sites are immensely helpful. I helped a friend choose items for his herb garden through the internet.
she is in Southern MD.
ty oodle
*oodle even... sorry!
what did I do
does it matter? Men are always at fault..:)
NBT!
does anyone have the 8?
Not I
sue why are you thanking me?
no 8 here

Haz, How is our dear Spangle?
There's Annie, diplomatic as always. If only I knew how to be as tactful.
Spangle is absolutely fine, Annie. Paws are being Arranged as we speak.
Tact? That's for putting posters on the bedrooom wall. Or something like that
Hazel, You are making me laugh. Tact is not my strong suit but I try
what did the clarinet say to the sax?
Is that when you know you're grown up? When you don't put posters up on the wall, with tact or not.
waht?
what? rather
you are really saxy
I think you're very tactful, Annie. You know when to step away from the keyboard.
hello all

Hello peri.
Annie is far more diplomatic than I am capable of, or willing to. :p
Hazel, I learned when to step away from the smart babblers here
And Jimi Fendrix :)

lol Annie, so there's hope for me?
Go harp go!
well i thought it was funny
Fendrix, Hendrix. Whatever.
Absolutely....age and hard knocks
My favourite 7 so far is the tw7/48 - the Highland reel danced by a couple rather than the normal eight.
help with the E above the F
peri, sea bird
***I tried to let fendrix go...*** <----tact
sheesh, thanks Annie
welcome, peri
not getting your clue Haz
No, it's not the clearest, is it?
highland reel?
highland reel?
I usually get your clues Haz
tried*toemeet* but not a word :)
phone
Scottish country dancing references clearly not appropriate. Try Scots for a pair (three letters) then '**** day my prince will come'
All right, headed back to the couch. Good to see you again Annie of Brooklyn, take care. Later gators.
Only in my case, I sincerely hope it isn't Prince Charles.
aha, great clue, Haz, got it
Back to the couch? You mean you're ill? Who knew?
Great, glad it worked, peri.
Oh, that Lori. Drama queen. Spouting off about her illness right and left.
She'll do anything for sympathy. It's a weakness with her.
bs
Bs? It's all true I say!
safir
sorry
Hi everyone...I have 13 left and I'm sitting here with a blank stare....cannot see another word.
hello, chiley
Hello chiley. It's that sort of grid, isn't it?
101 here
it's blizzarding outside....
Yes, it is. I cruised along and then WHAM...hit the wall.
sunny and going to be near 90 degrees today
sorta jealous of annie but at least i have an excuse for not doing yardwork!
jane, I was thinking a blizzard would be a welcome change
*finally* got around to loading my Cherry Blossom pictures to my flickr account. :)
Is this you in yet another guise, EvaN? Geisha pictures or something?
Oh, and how's the decorating going?
eva two of the pics are sideways
That pillow fight looks AWESOME.
good morning everyone
Good morning, flosey.
hi flosey
brb, must get coffee
yeah, i dunno why the pictures are displaying sideways, because they werent loaded that way!
ahhhhh, really needed coffee
beautiful kids eva
what happened to the one's nose? ;-)
oodle -- who knows. my nephews are always injured somehow. they are real rough-housers!
oh ok... the pillow fight... was that in just one city or other cities as well and do I remember correctly that there were some arrests?
i believe it was national...i wasnt involved + we didnt know about it until we walked through it...hah
and you started getting pelted eh?
thankfully, the rules said "no hitting anyone without a pillow" heh
ohhh I thought so but wasn't sure
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2sV4Ck- PY80
wow, the Dupont one wasnt nearly so large!
that looks like it was in Washington DC but the NYC one is supposed to be the biggest ... feathers flying everywhere
it seems we have taken over the chog with talk of pillowfights... perhaps all the other babblers are afraid of being beaten with a pillow!
I would be as I have had problems with my neck
me too. tomorrow is my last PT appt! yay!
PILLOW FIGHT!!
"WHAP"
I'm always fascinated by how physiotherapists can find pain where you didn't even know you had it.
i wouldnt know, haz. i had pain!
or maybe they inflict it muhahahahahahahaha
Oh I know. But pain beyond the pain you knew you had. In any case, has it helped?
well, my neck feels back to normal. but im not really sure if it got better because of the PT or if it just got better on its own. (honestly, im inclined to think it just got better on its own)
No, I'd give some credit to their help.
i had only gone to 1, maybe 2 sessions before i started feeling better. im sure they helped some, but i think what helped more was my manager going on vacation. ;)
So, he/she is a literal pain in the neck?
shes my friend. but sometimes, she causes more drama/difficulty than she solves.
Well, I'm glad that the neck is getting sorted. What about the decorating at home? Any progress there?
we havent had much time. we did spray-paint the frames to a set or mirrors i have. but once they were dried, i noticed a few missed spots, so last night we bought another can so i can have a second go at them. BF thinks they look fine, but missed spots will drive me bonkers!
Hello, all!
Hello, Judi!
i think im gonna spend a little time each day trying to tape of the walla getting painted, so that whenever we do finally make the time to paint, it is all ready to go...
Preparation always seem to takes more time than you imagine, but it's worth it to get a good finish.
Yeah, that works, Eva. My living room has been like that for, oh, about six months now!
i know how long it takes to tape the walls off. and how perfect those lines have to be. id rather take my time doing that now than rush at the end (which i know the dear BF would do)
he keeps hanging things on the walls + i keep reminding him that they are all just going to have to come down whenever we paint...hah
Poor man! He just wants the finished wonderment and none of the detail.
exactly, haz! have you met him? hehe
I've decided to hire a paiting contractor because my back insisted I not do the project myself. Hubby is still looking all goggly eyed at me about that. I told him the alternative would be for HIM to paint it. He fled the room.
i actually enjoy painting. i just hate the prep work. but i know its necessary. i actually kinda hope he leaves me at home alone to do the painting...
You've made the right decision, Judi.
i agree judi. if you cant, and he wont, hire a professional!
So, all we need is something that will keep EvaN's man and Judi's husband out of the way and not moaning about the cost.
Even so, it's not going to get done soon. We're looking at about a $1,500 to $1,800 cost for a contractor to do it. I'm still just getting estimates.
Have you ever introduced them to babble?
heh, our cost is already spent! nott o mention that we just ordered a new mattress on sunday. i cant WAIT for it to arrive!
A winning lottery ticket would come in handy right about now.
If we could convert our babble points into money... wouldn't that be something?
oh man, haz.
Oooh! In a perfect world, Haz.
I know. I know it's impossible but it's brought a smile to my face.
Or, we could do like the US government and just print more money!
And give a fancy financial explanation to justify it?
Nah, we'll just say "we're investing in our future!"
Clue for the et5, please?
Investing always sounds so much worthier than 'spending money'
variant of needle case, judi
et5 - variation in spelling of the needlecase
Ah. Ty, Annie.
Might as well be turning water into wine.
the 1st em5 please
em5 - an Eastern ruler
A variation of am5
ty
You're welcome.
Haz!!!11111!!!1!!! La Glitteratinella!
any one have tw7?
Ata!
How is Hobbitella?
tiiiired :)
tw7 - Scots word for a couple (three letters) and **** day my prince will come
Hi, Ata!
and Arranging The Paws
She is tired climbing cliffs to escape?
ty haz
hi judi! hi everyone else!
hi atalante
Oh, Spangle has done that and is now snoring. Arranging the Paws is deadly tiring.
You're welcome, phaeton.
ever so
Spangle had worrying yellow patches yesterday. I stopped worrying when I realised that she had rubbed up against lily pollen.
How sweet. She thinks she's a bee!
fireworks
looooool they do look a bit worrisome covered in pollen, don't they
Congratulations phaeton!
congrats to phaeton
yay phaeton!
back later, kitchen calling
thank you! Laundry calling me...happy babbling!
Pollen is worrisome right now. Every time someone sneezes, they think they have the flying pig flu.
Bye you two.
I know. I'm sure doctors are going to have their hands full over the next while, whatever happens. People here are being told to stay at home and ring their doctor rather than go to the surgery. Poor receptionists trying to calm fears.
hobbit obviously had a snotty nose on the beach yesterday - she was rootling in the sand and ended up with sand caked al lover her nose. stayed there for ages
*runs and tackles ata*
Any cases turned up in the UK yet, Haz? All of the cases reported in the states so far have been mild.
Yes, two confirmed cases in Scotland but they have recovered well. Tests going on in 5 people in south of Ireland.
and 4 people in Wiltshire
Afternoon - the advice does make sense. The official line is DO NOT go to Dr or hospital, but call and have the doc right a prescription for you (without seeing them, mind you). Then the poor pharmacies will become the dangerous place to be.
eeeeeeeeva!
And so it goes on...
gotta love our drive-thru pharmacies!
Ah, but we've been told to get a friend, without symptoms, to get the medication.
Hmmm. I think the big factor is going to be the standard of cleanliness in any particular country. Mexico (country of origin) is NOT known for its sanitary conditions.
precisely Judi, plus they do not have the access to the anti-viral medications we have
sate
9 more mild cases in Scotland that associated with the 2 proper case people
oops! thats what happens whne you see a word and get excited LOL
The thought of a pandemic has always frightened me, mainly because of the statistics of 1918. Hopefully things have progressed a great deal in terms of control and medication.
I suppose then the friend could drop it off on your doorstep, ring the bell and run away. Oh my.
i mumpfu humfph mumfu (talking through swine flu mask)
could drop the sealed meds in a tray of disinfectant
Correct, magmom. Although, I believe the US and other countries have seen to it that Mexico now has ample supplies of drugs and testing materials. Now, if there antiquated health care system can see fit to distribute and test properly...
Thing is, I have slight hypochondriac tendencies, so the thought of a pandemic makes meoverly wary. I have to fight to not overblow things in my mind, and I keep my safety levels at the same as usual (being in the province that has mumps outbreaks all the time lately)
It does need to be taken seriously - the whole restriction of spread, I mean. However, panic is to be avoided!
And a good morning to you to, ruru.
we will just keep up our routine of washing our hands thoroughly and using purell spray after going places
The one thing about it that piqued my fear is the fact that this particular strain of flu is a combo of human, bird and swine. It would seem that someone would have to deliberately engineer that. Either that, or Mother Nature is giving us all a good ear tweak.
my kids keep rolling their eyes and sighing at me, but being this close to TX, I'm being careful. They have hadn sanitizer in their backpacks
Yes, I've reada few articles that the death toll in Mexico from this is still rising and authorities in North America don't see why it is milder in NA. Is it really milder, or were we better prepared than others? We do live in an age of preparation for an outbreak of almost anything.
I just think we have higher standards of cleanliness, Uni. And, better health care.
narrowing down the Mothers Day plant choices. got it down to: Gardenias, Rozaleas, Ranunculus, and Cyclamen. im leaning toward the Ranunculus... any input from our babble gardeners?
and we have the foreknowledge of its existence, so can treat immediately
help with the re words re7 please
Also, there is more poverty in Mexico, therefore less people are able to afford to see a doctor when they are sick.
Eva, you and these plants!! :)
EvaN I love cyclamens
re7 - encounters again
ranunculus are buttercups, aren't they?
ty gave me three
A bargain clue.
I did some heavy thinking in the kitchen and when I returned to the grid I was able to see my last four. Fireworks
indeed
YAY, ANNIE!
go Annie!
Happy bonanza of joy for Annie!
wtg annie
yay Annie!
Well done, Annie! It was the kitchen calling out the words, wasn't it?
Yes, Kitchens speak to me. Thank you all.
ok bbl
I am roasting a chicken to be served cold later. Hot day today.
uni, just trying to get advice from people who might actually have planted these plants...heh
EvaN, Stid might be a good person to ask
I planted snapdragons, petunias, pansies, flox and some other orange flower (forgot name). Plus I bought a ton of basil and cilantro. YUM!
en 7 anyone?
en + enclose a picture
You mentioned earlier some mixed plant bundles...any that carry the options you want most?
thank yyou
ty annie- that greyed that square for me
Sa5/10?
Nm. Found it.
Ta5/20?
ta5/20 - one who takes away your hard-earned cash
Well, duh. I sure as hell should have known that one. Thanks, Haz.
You're welcome - been on the receiving end, haven't you?
Yes. We owed the Fed about $500 this year. All paid. Still stewing.
oh the joys of the Turner Prize. Cheers me up every year
It's not so bad if you can imagine the money being put to good use. What's rotten is knowing what they will do with it that you wouldn't want them to.
Is Turner a Turn off again? Who's won this time?
*shudders* Just paying down our debts now, so when the big tax hikes come, we'll be a little ahead of the game (famous last words).
its the shortlist at the moment. theres actually one interesting piece!!!!! http://tinyurl.com/ckl2hj s ome guy covered a grotty council flat in copper sulphate crystals, and its bluuuue
Bye, dear babblers
bye annie!
Bye Annie.
Egad! Where does one find that much copper sulphate? Is he growing his own? Otherwise - I'm no art critic, but most of those selections look like CRAP to me.
the whole point of the Turner Prize is to dig up the crappiest piece of non-art imaginable and laud it
Ah ha! Well then, perhaps I'm fit to judge.
It is the one time of year when people feel empowered to talk about contemporary art." So says one of the judges. What he doesn't realise is that most people AREN'T being complimentary.
Snort. Gotta love the irony.
yep! its a real joke. and its taken sooo seriously in the modern art community
hello everyone hows the grid today?
tw 7?
That is very...blue.
Dr Manhattan's cave
tw8 - Take your partner for the tw7 reel.
ruru: a duo, only with a different first vowel.
Hello sadie. It's not been my favourite grid of all time.
hi Haz yea Im seeing that thanks
The psychology of looking. Alright, I'm not up to snuff with these guys.
FIREWORKS!!!!!
wtg judi!
Congratulations Judi!
congrats judi
yay judi!
Yay for Judi!
Now that Judi has achieved greatness and has earned more babble point dollars, I should get Spangle ready for a nice walk. Enjoy the day!
awww she'll like that :)
Thanks for the support, Haz. I too must be off to run errands and enjoy the summer-like weather.
Happy walking!
Exit a small spaniel and a dumpy woman ----->

thanks .. I didn't get the earlier clue..
Thank you uni
There, firewords. You're welcome, Ruru.
YAY Uni!
I think I will take an hour and play... how's the grid?
yay Uni!
Stiddy! As you are the gardening guru, I will repost Eva's flower question in the hopes you can help her...and the hopes that she will read your response. One sec.
The grid was rather lovely, really...
a sweet one today
EvaNadine: narrowing down the Mothers Day plant choices. got it down to: Gardenias, Rozaleas, Ranunculus, and Cyclamen. im leaning toward the Ranunculus... any input from our babble gardeners?
not sure I am a gardening guru... but I know a weed from a veggie (usually)
yes, already up to 27
ahh! heres the stid-uru!
ranunculas are nice plants, they like a sour soil (close relatives of buttercups)
hello EvaN
Is this for inside or outside?
it will initially be inside + potted, but it will be transferred outside, hopefully
gardenias don't do well very far north if they are outside (far north = much past los angeles); they are a tender plant
mom is in Southern MD
I don't know rozaleas. Ranunculas are sometimes used around here (very mild climate because of the puget sound effect which keeps most winter temps in the high 30s low 40s
near water, EvaN?
waterfront, yes
My heart is saying cyclamen or ranunculas. let me check... brb
I don't understand any of the 7's clues. Must be dense today.
EN7 = en + what you put around a picture
http://www.waynesthisandthat.com/ranun culuses.html looks like a good resource for ranunculas
back with more... brb
fireworks :)
here is one on cyclamen http://articles.pointshop.com/landscap ing/630.php
YAY KAz!!!
yay kaz
is a rozalea an azalea???
I really don't recommend gardenias for outside north of perhaps southern S.C. on the east coast, I think it will get too cold for it.
from seeing it on the page, it looks like a hybrid of an azalea + a miniature rose
Good afternoon all.....
okay, it's a type of azalea, it would probably do just fine. In our climate they like full sun because it's not sunny that often, but back east I think probably it will want at least part shade.
it also likes a sour soil (acid), the same that blueberries and ranunculas enjoy.
does that help?
stid... do you get acid soil from pine needles?
anyone need clues before I go to class?
yes, pine needles are a great mulch for plants that like sour soil; but be careful not to use them on things that don't...
Kaz, I am sooooo clueless... rofl
i think im gonna go with the Ranunculus. they seem like they would do well, and i think theyre gorgeous flowers. thanks for the help, oh wise stid!
Azaleas like acid soil. That's why they grow well in NC. Lots of pines.
thanks. I couldn't remember if pine made acid, or reduced acid. I knew it was one of the two.
*grin* not sure how wise I am, but glad to help as I can.
I am going to throw a tantrum if no one says hello to me!! :)
hello Bea!
Hey, stid.
ooo, I wanna see the tantrum!!
wait, no...
hello caitlyn!
hi cait!!!!
im completely ignorant when it comes to plants. i just know what i think it pretty. i also know that i dont want to send my mom the same 2-3 different flowers every year...heh
CAITLYN!!!!! *jumping up and down and hugging and throwing choclit right and left* HELLO!!!!!
sorry, I was in my "virtual" garden...
LOL hello lindy Hi stid!!
Hi Ata!!
I grow a great crop of weeds every year!!! =)
I am going to have veggies this year... at some point... I hope. *sigh* we have been SOOO busy!
Weeds are wild flowers lindy
ok off to get ready! tc all
Bye Kaz
later KAz, have a wonderful day!
I have NBT and almost halfway...
Ata are you having a break from studying now?
yes, caitlyn, I decided to take an hour this morning. My back hurts (overpacked the bookbag yesterday) so I have to hold still.
oops, sorry that was directed at Ata! LOL
we get a great crop of lovely dandylions in our yard, also thistle plants taller than I am out behind our barn
oh, I bet the chickadees love the thistles in the fall!
LOL the same question applies to you as well . try and rest your back stid
lots of birds love thistle seed... but plants that big have huge spines - very pokey
and you know that fresh dandelion greens are good salad greens -- but be sure it's a dandelion: needs to have a single large (carrot-like) root; things with dandy-like leaves and multiple roots are not tasty.
I had a break last week, got to start new assignment now :)
and dandelion wine, too
never made it, nor had it, but heard it's good
Ata I hope you find it a bit easier than the last one
I have never had dandelion wine either... I just know Ray Bradbury wrote a book (which I haven't read...)
dandelion wine is lovely! cowslip wine too
it's about cars. boring!
cowslips are a type of primrose? hm. wine from primroses...
Very boring LOL
cars do not interest me -- except to get me from point A to point B
I have missed out on those wines, my favourite though is sloe gin
exacly!
blech. gin. ewww. (it's piny)
home-made sloe gin especially
slow gin is a different kettle of fish, stid!
stid it doesnt taste of gin at all
I agree... sloe gin is good, regular is nasty
its sweet and sticky and yummy
hm. *considers new information* well if I ever want to try a new hard liquor, I shall consider it.
I don't drink much... I don't like the woozy feeling.
okay, down to 59, listing.
*remembering how she got REALLY sick on sloe gin* haven't had it since!
hello JUDY!!!! day off? or lunch?
lunch!
how's school?
Hi Judy..
Hi Caitlyn
mmmm. what's for lunch? *needing breakfast still*
well, i copped out today and bought an Italian sub.
i was supposed to go outside for lunch today (sushi) but now im chained to the desk waiting on work to come my way that is supposed to be finished within the hour. :(
yuk Eva
I like subs. I don't think I would like being chained to a desk
during my many work years, I have been "chained to a desk"; not fun!
i SO want sushi. and i SO want to eat lunch outside!
Hey, ata--never heard of homemade sloe gin.
mmmmmmmmmm sushi
I would like to have sushi -- all day long if I could afford it!
homemade sloe gin is the easiest thing in the world to make
Used to drink sloe gin fizzes, Stid. You'd like it, I'm sure. But it is sweet.
you know me, Judy -- sweet! LOL
ROFL, Stid
fill a bottle 1/3 - 1/2 full of sloes, add sugar to taste (about 1/4 of a bottle for sweet) and fill with gin, Leave for 6 weeks or so. tada!
I see "sloe" I think "sloth" ... ??? what's up with that?
there is actually something called "sloes"?? *how did I not know that after all these years?*
they are like bitter little damsons
damson gin is good too
damn. learn something new everyday in Babbleland.
hello babblers! lunch hour!
phone......back in a mo
they grow a lot in our hedgerows round here
hello fuquay! welcome to "how to brew alcohol" lessons for dummies...
thx ata
hi fuquay
sounds like fun
love homemade Sangria (but I don't have a recipe :()
it really is the easiest home-made liqueur drink to make. and sooooooo good
I've never met a sloe (but love the picture of the sloths in the bottle...)
sangria= red wine and orange juice?
All this talk is making me thirsty!
I wonder if you could use sour cherries? We have a tree hanging over the fence from the neighbor's yard.
you need some fruit in there, Stid.
YES! I got the 8...
hi, all. Stiddy, I've updated on squidoo again this morning.
ooooo now that sounds an interesting idea!
orange IS fruit! *puts in a few orange peels*
Thats sounds a good idea fuquay try it for fun
Hi Angel!!
hey angelsong. will look if I finish this fast enough. At ten I need to finish the lesson plans for the the 6th grade class...
absolutely. get a really cheap bottle of gin, nothing really to lose!
yes, think I will! hubby loves liqueurs -- not to drink but to pour over ice cream
hi, caitlyn
ohhhh yes. sloe gin over ice cream is just gorgeous
stid, leave a rating if you like. I think it's a good page.
Ata do you think the stones need to be removed first?
Hi Angelsong.
I doubt it. we don't remove the sloe and damson pits
creme de menthe over ice cream. (wish I had some at work!)
Thats true
Good morning! Such interesting chat today. I always learn new things.
okay angelsong, I can do that
just add a ton of sugar if you want it sticky sweet sauce stuff
Hi ch
ch1212! ((hugs))
do you cut or crush the fruit at all, or leave it completely whole?
{{{ hugs ANgelsong and everyone else }}}
making sloe gin is one of the few good things I've learnt from husband!!
just shove it in
WA 7/44 please?
I slice up the fruit and just drop it in.
easy peasy. sounds like a plan
it's my last word
Also, for a touch of zip, add a little bit of Sprite to the Sangria! Yummers!
hello CH!!!! (((hugs)))
well I guess either way works :D
NVM, firewoids!!!
Stid, I don't have it yet, sorry!
hello car!
hurrah for stidmama!
Share a clue please?
Hi car
wa7 - insert the first two letters of the lionheart king's name into the leftover wa5/18 (towards the end)
Hi Haz
sure, the WA 7/44 is past tense "is" (shakespearean -- four letters) + first three letters of french for laugh (or maybe smile?)
Hello caitlyn!
hello Haz!
Well...I don't have the WA 5/18, so I will have to wait1
and thanks!
did Mme la Spangletta have a nice walk?
car- the clue is in the left-over (wa5)
She did - the sun is shining. At least I think that's what it is.
WOW--look away for a minute and miss zillions of chats!! Hi, car, haz, ch!
that strange yellow thing in the sky>
Hi ciocia!
LOL Judy!
Hello Ciocia.
Hello to Everyone!
hi eveyrone hi car hi ch hi haz hi ciocia
hello
hi judi!
Got it finally!
hi gail and quid!
Well done, car!
clue for re5 28 please
Hi oodle andGail!
re5/28 - when the first strip didn't remove enough hair.
hi caitlyn
okay angelsong, I looked -- nice adjustments. Gave it my rating.
hello oodles
Ouch Haz !
hi stid
and gail and... wow. look away for a minute and everyone arrives!
... and the party trooped in
and owie on that clue, Haz! LOL
You've been there, caitlyn. I can tell.
LOL Not me Haz I dont like pain!
very sensible!
sorry had it... ty
It's not so much pain as searing discomfort.
*grin* you oodles, causing a ruckus and then wandering off...
*wondering whether to react to Haz's revelation*
Searing discomfort sounds like another way of saying pain
Those men who get their chests made hairless for charity earn their money.
owie!
Pain lasts, searing discomfort is more of a shock to the system.
I agree Haz and once again ouch
Clues for the lower left hand N? Need it for NBT. TY in advance!
okay, I need to go check to see if the maps I sent to the printer are done... and make sure I know what my ideas are for the rest of the week. Teaching is hard work! LOL and this is just one 8-day unit for one class...
ne4/7 - ne plus Kipling's poem
ne+ no *** ands or buts
car if you are not experienced, you are ne 4: (often spelled NA)
like re4 and plural car
Somehow I think you are having fun, stidmama. I'm glad, and I'm sure your students are enjoying you.
see you-all again soon! *poof*
TY!
Bye stidmama!
what does the 8 start with?
Bye stid, hope your back gets better soon
st. It's a compound word.
ty!
what the heck is that stuff?
Wine glasses
Glasses. Why can't they just say glasses?
how silly!
Hi tor
Cause they have st4s
Heya
(Is this a collective Brit tantrum?)
it's a comercial ploy
Hello torgone.
LOL Haz
I see caitlyn threatened one earlier. You've got reinforcements now, we could all huff and puff about st8.
is a dog a quadrist8 then?
'Raise your st8 in a toast....'
I am in the right mood for a tantrum........all together now, stamp your fe4.....GO
it sounds better on bridal registries, along with the flatwa4 and the hollowa4. it's a capitalist plot!
Stamping and stomping.
Yes that sounded good!
Why not cutlery? And what is hollowwa4?
I need a clue for the second T word from the right column...I have the one who attempts.
cutlery is flatwa4 isn't it?
Capitalist plots? Tantrums? Bridal registries? It sounds like there's mayhem aplenty here today!
hollowa4 is teapots, creamers, coffeepots, serving bowls, etc.
how even more ridiculous!
Hi Vi !!, you missed the chat about sloe gin
Yes! Vi is here!
I get it! Things that are "hollow"1
Most people seem to prefer their gin fast.
tr7 - a three rowed rowing boat or something.
LOL Vi
right. it comes from when they were made by metalsmiths, and they distinguished the flatwa4 from the hollowa4
tr7 - three letters meaning three, two letters for 'about', two letters for not you but **
TY!
oh, thanks, haz, been looking for that one!
just learned another new tidbit! thx fuquay
You're welcome.
It sounds like you people are ready to set a full Victorian table.
I can provide the strawberry forks.
But I've misplaced my asparagus tongs.
I want to use my fingers
I can provide the butter knives.
No problem, cait, but soup is a little hard that way.
caitlyn, you're letting the side down.
I have the finger bowls
LOL thats me Haz
That's better.
2nd so4 please
Question of etiquette: should one or should one not remove one's tin foil hat while at the table?
depends if one is a lady or not!
oodle, like the third so4 but with a different end vowel
That's no lady; that's our caitlyn.
The hat must be removed before approaching the table ..
LOL Vi
I think it depends on prevailing conditions and whether tinfoil hat alerts have been issued.
Or approaching the bench during one's trial...
Well, in that case, perhaps one should invest in a tin-foil lined wig, so as never to be without protection.
there are only 2 vowels and they don,t work
phone again.......back in a mo
Good idea, Vi.
first vowel
It makes an odd crinkly sound on occasion, but oh well.
so4 - as the familiar boy said to his mother 'So4/5, what's for tea?'
not found in dictionary
oh pooh
do you have not all, but so4? change the end of that so4
never mind
Maybe you're missing the 3rd so4, too, oodle. Find it, and then try so4 more.
do the two bottom E words use the high-value tile?
no I wasn't I thought for some reason it was the last
One does.
The other is en7
clue the other one, then? (braces for cold wet fish)
en7 - to provide a decorative surrounding to a picture?
thanks!
You're welcome.
Words words words.
fewmets is so a word!!!
As in, "There are fewmets on the Red Sox?"
lol, vi. fewmets are dragon droppings! (or other animal droppings, I guess)
Dunno about dragons, but sure enough on the other animals. Chalk up another failure to Enable.
Can I register relief that dragon droppings are not regularly encountered by husband?
oh, fewmets! time to do so4 actual work today! bye all and happy babbling!
lol, Haz. I think dragon vet is a very specialized occupation.
Bye fuquay.
Bye, fuquay!
Yes, I can't imagine that dragon breath would be better than dog breath.
Particularly not without the asbestos mask.
Back again, how can someone of 95 talk so much on the phone??
Exactly. Protective gear would have to have a whole new redesign.
Gosh, caitlyn, didn't realise you were that old! You're still very clear.
That foil hat might come in handy though Vi
Oh Ha Ha Haz very droll !!LOL
can someone give a different clue for TR7. i have the first 3 letters...
I couldn't resist. I take it your mother was calling?
No my hubbys aunty
the last 4 letters sound like 500 sheets of paper.
The next letters are the first in a word meaning to recall or to bring to mind.
I had an email from an old friend at uni, hadn't heard from him for years, and I was very impressed - he's now a vet in the royal vet corps!
Does he specialize in dragons?
probably!
LOL Vi Thats nice to hear a blast from the past Ata
Horses and dogs, I'll bet.
sa5 10 please
yep, I think you're right. He was out in Iraq for a bit, must have been with sniffer dogs
oodle...fixed gaze
sa5/10 - a different spelling for the Indian lady's garb
sa5/10 - alt spelling of sa4 Indian garment
whoops...nm oodle...I'm nuts
lol, with 21 eyes no wonder gazing words tend to spring to mind!
hello babblers!
Hello, TO.
LOL
hi ya peeps lady
Hello TO! Nice to see you.
Hi TO !!
wow, I figured out the en7 on my own!
Yeah lindy!
k2 what?
hi all - back for my last 23
oh
thanks Vicuna
Hello josh.
Hi josh wb
en , re , tw 7
only have 3 7's
need the other two
YOOOOOOOO TOOOOOOOOOO! Got your e-mails.
tr7 and wa7
can't git that alternative spelling for sa4
tr7, TO
Time for another tantrum, Brits. Ciocia is getting e-mails from TO.
Im starting mine already
between recuperating from the flu and a very crazy work schedule, just haven't done much with my e-mails.
no she is saying "you too"
Stamping, stomping and holding breath?
oops what did I do? Did I miss something??
cj i ws wondering with all of this swine flu stuff
Stamping loudly, I think the dog is getting frightened now
what is the S, 3rd one down
not the swine flu, but let me tell you, whatever it was it took a long time to get back in the groove
st5/10 - s plus what you do with a ball or with your hair if you're wanting attention.
ok why are we behaving like two year olds? i mean we usually maintian the early elmentary level...
Good for you, caitlyn. That'll teach TO to send e-mails to other people and not to us.
We are hurt. Hurt.
Very very hurt
We'll really sulk if pictures were involved.
damn that flu and work! seems like i missed something the last two weeks. *glazed look*
what? you didn't get mey emails? danged internet
it's the swine flu ...
Hi guys! How is the grid today?
Have you ever been more hurt, caitlyn?
I don't think I've known hurt like it.
i hav ebeen on babbatical. they are getting more and more frequent.
Probably Haz but I cant think of it now because of the pain
Even when the wa5/28 had to re5/28.
Hi beach
Hello beach. Some people like it, some people don't.
lololol
re5/28????
But you say that the internet might be to blame?
re5/28 - when the first strip didn't remove enough hair....
internet? FM
You wouldn't be using the internet as an excuse?
LOVE that clue Haz!
You're not trying to shift the blame?
I'm still smarting, Ciocia.
She would never do that Haz
how can anything be to blame apart from FM?
i have 1132 more T's to find...
i don't know i am naturally hairless ;)
Thats a lot of Ts oodle
Trust Ata to bring us back to the truth of the matter.
yes ma'am
I take it when you pay for your account there is usually some delay before the change takes effect on the site?
did you just do it?
aye
hjst - you need to log out and log back in. And then put in whatever you want in your profile. If you're George Clooney, do feel free to put a photo in.
what can I do to make it up to you, Haz?
WA 7? i didn't understand the earlier clue
hahahahaha Haz
try going out of your browser providing you made the changes in your profile and then you will see changes
nevermind i got it
Now Im even more hurt Judy.......
or John Barrowman
haz - aha, thanks for the info
wa7 - wa plus what makes a zebra conspicuous, but take out the p.
was thee a wa7 clue?
oh you mean the stats eh?
OMG, Cait!!! I'll send you 100 e-mails--will that help?
Or Placido Domingo
Never mind John Barrowman.
or a Chippendale . . .
That may start to make me feel better judy
so what do you all think of susan boyle's makeover?
wa7 clued just before your request, TO. Look back.
she got a makeover? I thought she said she wasn't going to do that.
Never mind that Clooney guy
I'm happy if she's done what she wants to make herself feel better. She'll still have the same singing voice and that's what counts.
Oh Ata, must tell you my granddaughters choir is singing with JB in Oct in Cardiff
there is one more 7, i am not sure which oen i am missing. i have RE, EN, WA, TR
Im glad she has had it done
She's had her hair cut and eyebrows attended to. Nothing that dramatic.
oh wow!!
tw7 bleu
TO, I appreciated that she looked so much like me :D, but I completely understand why she wanted to have the makeover. She obviously has great self esteem, but who would turn down the chance for a new fun look? Not me.
tw7 wa7 please
My hope would be she elected to do it because SHE wanted to, not because she thought she should.
wa7 - wa plus the feature that makes a zebra conspicuous, but take out the p.
tw7 - think duo but different vowel + so4/5
a new look can be fun. and refreshing, too
I dont think she has much self esteem ch, she has had advice to have this change
I agree, ch1212. Why shouldn't she get her hair cut if she wanted to?
Anyway, kitchen calls, so I'd better attend to food. Bye!
bye, Haz.
got it Ciocia
Look at the time...........I should be in the kitchen, see you tomorrow, bye
and suddenly had people wanting to pay for her to do it
I hope not caitlyn - I had heard the judges and audience told her not to change.
Bye Haz.
bye, Cait.
LOL Snap Haz
ty haz
well, in any case, her voice is stupendous, no matter what her hair looks like :)

I'm sure it's already been clued, but anyone able to help me with the tw 7/48?
a scottish version of a pair
Like a couple - tw***** with a diff. 1st vowel
thank you! I kept trying that but it wasn't taking. I was misspelling it. tried googling scottish pair, found out that a scottish pair has swine flu.
Learn the strangest things in this game...
yes, they do!
I thought they are still waiting to find out.
I hope they don't, or else recover fast.
they've been diagnosed, and are recovering
9 people they've been in contact with have slight flu symptoms too
A lot of fear around this, but from what I understand this flu is similar others, so if you're not really old or really young, you're likely do be OK.
well actually, this flu is hitting the healthy people. young and old are doing better than 16 - 40 year olds
I just hate the surge of fear, spurred by the media.
ick yes
It's bad enough being sick without being scared too.
Seriously. Thousands of people die from flu every year ..
How about declaring a state of emergency over AIDS or drunk driving?
absolutely
I agree - much bigger problems, much better to marshall our energies to change that!
Meanwhile, back here on the grid, any clues for the 2nd ra 5/12, or the ra 6/21?
absolutely
*just repeats absolutely at random intervals*
Okay, there is only one of these, I checked...could someone clue the ta5/18?
ta + I wish I ***e a fairytale princess
ra 6/21? Please? Getting so close it hurts...
*sigh.* Thank you. I would not have tried that.
it's a plural of ra5/12 = ra + ***ropolitan
remember it, it appears quite a lot!
Thank you so much! I monkeyed around for ever and didn't stumble on that!
OK, I'll assign it a prominent place in my babble memory file. ;-)
Now I can finally get some food and move on to the day. Anyone want a few clues before I go?
food - what a nice idea!
fi6/42...last one, and I can't figure it out. Help?
the third letter should be obvious from the points - the rest is the past tense is what you do with food
ra 5/12??
just clued one. the other is one letter different
fi 6/42: repair plus pt of eat
Done! I want to thank all of you who got me here--thank you for your patience and great clues...*lifting statue*...Wow, these things ARE heavy! :)

Oops meant to type ra + me5/12 minuse the last letter.

oh man spelling is off tonight
HEY!
I went on afield trip climbing a mountain with 14 year old kids and fell on my butt on the way down.
embarassing, so I only tape it when I get home
well mistake #1 climbing up onto anything other than a lounge chair. mistake #2 trying to keep up with teens
Actually I was trying to get out of the way as they came bounding down the rocks like mountain goats!
creates quite a picture!
It was until the old lady slammed onto her butt and wacked her arm on the rocks. . . I don't know how hard they laffed later but they were polite then It helped my pride
i amsure you will be the subject of many stories for years to come -- lovingly told of course
Now I am really embarassed!!!
nahh i am the subject of many scout stories the kids still tell years later and they love every minute of it as do i - great memories
I was a Beaver leader with my youngest son and that was real fun. Being a Cub leader was too much work so I never became a Scout leader
I admire you energy
i did it all the way up ( and still am a leader) for teens they are my fav age group. my daughter will graduate this year and the rest of the girls are hoping i will stay
I only had boys so I was not able to leave the house until the youngest was in Scouting. The others loved it so much it made sense to repay what other people had given to my boys.
I hope you can stay even when your daughter has left. It is a remarkable legacy
rifs

hi crossy
hi crossy
burger doodle may be a northern thing
s'up, crossy!!
bye wild
good evening, babble friends!
hi trif!
howdy gwen;)
Heya Trifs!
hi trif
hiyas
i must admit, i have no clue as to what a burger doodle is.
s'up, trifioso!!
i have a misty memory of it being a "fake brand" from a tv ad -- obnoxious character to family: "we could go to burgle doodle and eat in the car!"
gwen..is rebinding an old book an expensive thing? i have a volume here its a nurses guide to home care for invalids from 1900 and its a real pretty thing with rice paper covering illistrated pictures etc but the binding is cooked
cross, the short answer is yes. could be about $50 to $100.
the edge of the book is 3 inches arcoss and 950 pages:/
i can recommend a good binder if you want to go there
from 1900, sounds like 50-100 would be a bargain
the illistrations are beautiful
a serious collector might not value it as much after it has been rebound, however. that actually lowers the resale value.
why did they use the thin rice paper overtop of the pictures gwen?
on the other hand, the general rule for whether a medical book is "collectible" is over 100 years, and *that* you have
It doesn't stick ..
the rice papers are called "guards" -- they are there to prevent ink transfer from the ills to the facing pages
rice paper over the pictures, usually to keep them from being scratched
i love the way they use opium for everything;))
certain old methods of printing illustrations were notorious for "offset" -- meaning the ink starts bleeding into the facing page
hey, opiun is good stuff. it got outlawed for reasons other than medical ones, ya know
is that a personal preference crossy?
imagine if tylenol were suddenly outlawed. we woulsd be criminals for something that was perfectly okay yesterday.
lol lots of reference to "laudulum"
hi babblers
good stuff, too! yum lol
that is what happened to timothy leary -- lsd was orignally used to help psych patients
hi shdy
hiya shady
Just like cannabis ..
hi gwen! and jmc!
help with first wa 5.28
so, crossy, do you want me to send you contact info for a good binder?
wz5, covered with pectin
how's life, gwen?
wa5, that was
mmmmm cannibus
hangin' on till we get universal health care. how 'bout you, shady?
Gimme a head with hair .. streamin gleamin flaxen wa***
sec gwen have to help the wife get to the potty..she had her toenails removed yesterday:((
ty torg and book
good, busy, but very good. the shady dad moved in March 1, so lots of family fun
poor wife crossy
toenails removed? OMG
hey, peeps
hi tyger
10 left
There are rice paper coverings in my parents' wedding album from 1952. There are similar covering on the photos in my own wedding album from 1977.
hey, jmc
hi jac and tyger
and shady
hi jac!
jacula, indeed, quite a common feature of illustrated books, up till they figured out how to print them without getting so much offset
hi jac, tyger and SHDY!!!
now the song "hair" is stuck in my head 8-)
Crossy - ouch, re toenail removal.:-(
lbd! hola!
how ya doing, shdy?
great, you?
gwen, I may want info from you about that binder someday. I have a valuable book with loose binding and badly worn cover. I know it will be expen$ive, as the cover is leather, but ...
did you go to mexico for spring break?
doing well. tired of winter.
nope, dad moved here instead, now living with me, no more mx (waaaaaa)
Gwen - I worked in the printing and publishing industry in the early 70s through to the late 80s. I saw the machinery change not much until just as I was leaving and computerised stuff arrived. A bit late really, since I worked for a firm who sold computerised accounting systems.
i recently got an unbound book bound. publishing in an unbound state, that is. only cost USD65. leather spine and corners, marbled boards, very pretty
You're welcome BDG ..
nice to have dad there, but bummer about no real reasons for mexico trips
im a hairy guy..hairy morning ,noon and nighty night night
jacula, then you know all about tissue guards and stuff like that, yes?
dad makes up for it though, when will spring come to you?
that doesn't sound so bad, gwen. Given that the book is probably worth about $1K
august, if we're lucky
crossy loves that "old book smell":)
LOL, Crossy. Me andmy daughte once wrote a poem about men like you.
i have a crewcut and feel silly singing "hair" but there ya go . . .
sheesh, lbd, that's why i live down here
crewcut, gwen??
tyger, i state again that putting on a new binding might lower the value to some collectors. but it's your book, so your decision
crossy, are you sure you mean hairy and not horny?
lbd!
yes, i have a crewcut. buzzcut. very very short hair
LOL, dawg
thinking bout it gwen..but its such a pretty thing...
help with te 6 pls
makes shampooing easy, I'm sure :)
but the binding is spilt right in the middle and you can see the string poking out through the split
te6: add comparative to preceding te4
I exagerate just a tinge...we might get spring by late May. then the blazing sun will scorch us or the fires will til September
te6, add a suffix onto a te4, rhymes with shiny word
one who does the te4.5,
it was too hot yesterday, then too cold today. hello michigan weather
or with nic for fast German car
bmw's nickname.
ty
sounds like Mich, all right! :P
we're still getting snow here. well, not here in Kspell, but other parts like great falls, bozeman, butte...
crewcut very easy to shampoo, yes. takes about 2 minutes. and dries in no time.
at lake louise in calgary spring is really in august -- needless to say there is no summer
7
in michigan we have two seasons: winter and construction.
go, jmc
We had a dullish but dry, then sunny day followed by a numberof thunderstorms passing by.
we have winter and potholes
*really* sounds like Mich
go jmc!
in texas they have the semi-annual open window days and then winter and summer
pothole avoidance is a necessary skill round about these parts
There don't seem to be 4 clear-cut seasons any more.
we have some potholes that air rescue would have to be called if anyone fell in
true, jac. hello climate change
ever seen a muffler-eater? so big it rips mufflers off cars. mostly located on freeway entrance ramps where you don't see it till it's too late, and WHAM
Climate change IS happening, tyger, but I'm still not convinced that it's down to us (makind) rather than the natural course of things.
we have, winter, late winter, potholes and fire season, we used to have tourist season, but we couldn't hunt them so got rid of it.
that's why so many Michiganders drive pickups, gwen :P
600,000 years of CO2 measurements don't convince you? OMG
But, even so, we should not waste or spoil anything given in our wonderful planet.
lol dawg
i suspect it is a combination on climate change jac
muffler eaters! we call them axle busters
also muffler grabbers
I was a recycler before it became hip to do so. Product of parents brought up in WWII.
spoilage has already happened, jac. ever heard of the 2 great collections of plastic in the Pacific?
good for you Jac!
Tyger - I have both heard and seen. They are nasty!
killing ocean life at an incredible rate
"dead zones" measuring 100s of miles across
yeah, those of us who experience frost heaves know about vehicle rebuilding...duct take and chicken wire are key to all trunks
But not as fast as the warming up of the oceans is killing the coral reefs, Tyger.
and then there are the fishing vessels that catch sharks, cut off their fins, and dump them back to die of oxygen deprivation
and the coral reefs are the refuges of life in the ocean
i tave one T from the lower right T. clue for the other one?
george carlin did a marvelous riff on this very subject -- highly worth looking up on youtube....
The delicate balance of the oceans and the rain forests is definitely being done by mankind, along with the natural cycle.
large masses of glaciers are calving leaving the arctic in peril too
gwen, do you have the Roman ship?
tr7 book
So, don't waste stuff!
tr7, prefix for three + **d roses + **, myself and I
OY, ty jmc, got it
help with sa 5/10 pls
tyger, what???
sa5/10 alt spelling of Indian dress
oh, you mean the tr7. OY, never mind
It tok me forever book! lol
dawg gave you a very explicit clue for it
alternate spelling of Indian dress
the tr7 is a roman ship
Don't start me off on fishing! I had a near row with our tour guide when I went to Iceland, But that was about whale fishing ang cod quotas.
snap, tyger
ty lbd I guess I tried satee instead
I lurve cod, but pretty soon there won't be any left
I'm wandering off now and proably won't be back until this evening. Happy Babbling all.

he broke a set we got for our wedding by putting them in the dishwasher. needless to say, 1) i don't use st8 and 2) i don't let him load the dishwasher!
lol!
stick with those plastic cups from fast food joints -- nearly unbreakable lol
(not the crappy ones, the "nice" ones with pictures of movie and tv characters on them)
you'd be amazed what this man can break! corelle dishes!
that takes talent lbd
and he's not trying to break them either. he's just a putz when it comes to my kitchen stuff.
hmmm. time to go for the all metal camping stuff, I think!
well it was worth a few glasses to get him to do the dishes when I cooked (no dishwasher)
i have the cheap plastic stuff, if he ruins them, oh well. and for special occassions, i just excuse him from helping me in the kitchen
I can't believe it took me this long to find the regular spelling of indian dress -- glad I didn't as for a clue

My former bridge partner is there now
Lived on Denman untll the kids had to go to school in town. The commute was too long.
I had a pal on Hornby, lol!
her hubby is still there -- sadly, she died of Parkinson's
we were friends at McGill a long time ago
whoa, all of a sudden i only have 9 left....
My family holidayed on Hornby all the time when I was a kid but it is too expensive to take 2 ferries so Denman suited better for the time

Where did you stay this time
the first mo5/12 adds a vowel to the word before.
I didn't .. I had to fly right home..
Oh! Sounds like me when I go to LA
I did love the IVy hotel though and will stay there again soon...let's meet there
with dan 2 and your other family
ruru, but with no such intention :)

ruru -- you visited dan2bit and mel????
not the notion jilli.. the motion..lol
I go to San Diego a lot jilli..
i am not getting the 5/12 clue. i have the plural of the superlative word
I have a ton of business down there.

oh yeah I'm supposed to be looking for words!!!
how did you know what i was missing jillibus?
which one are you missing
bug, there is no space between re6/21 (TV clicker) and re5/28, the last re word
i got it. thought i had put that in already
bleu, it wasn't easy, but you said you needed the 2 from the left e
I must need the first re 6 then
so muc easier for cluers if you're using the list
sorry about that big space!
first re6/21, hook up again -- 2nd re6/21 -- encountere again, 3rd re6/21, TV clicker
I use the list but as I get them I don't know exactly where to put them and that is confusing for me too.
oh bug, you need to enter them at the top of the list, then they go to the right place -- or if you have a PC, get Expert from Lickety to make your life simpler!
brb- need a glass of water b4 the flip
no clues needed?
I just tried doing what you suggested Jili. Thanks for the tip. I ave been printing the list off and writing them in where I think they go
