Trif, I don't know that there is any great move to change over. Some of us are still counting how much things would be in shilings and that's quite enough of a shock! Experience in South of Ireland was that changeover to the eu4 resulted in huge price rises.

the funniest part was when they got their first mobile bill after they moved - they are so close to the border that everytime Rachael was on the phone and wandered in to her kitchen, "roaming charges" applied, as she had "left the EU"

their house is jaw dropping - a 30+ room pile built by a friend of Oliver Cromwells, and former home to one of Winston Churchill's aunts, or something....and then left derelict for years. I swear, you walk in and you can hear a cash register running. But they love restoring it, and are having a ball - 7 walled acres, 3 boys under 8 - heaven!

They do open the house for tours and such, at least 90 days a year, and thus receive good tax breaks, so maybe Ian mentions it on the tour.

I think so, yes. I know the house has it's own category in the historic houses section, and has since before they owned it. And yes, Lynxx, Rachael was born in raised in Cavan, so the locals are delighted at their return, and that they are using it as a family home and not some hotel.

I know that in the north and in the rest of UK, you can't just do what you like with an historic building - it can be a bit of a pain, to say the least. Still, it's great that it's being lived in and used again.

That's great. We have a TV programme here called Grand Designs - many of the houses are built from scratch, others are restorations of old houses, some of them in ruins. It's fascinating to watch them being brought back from destruction but enormous patience is required to deal with the red tape as well as the problems of the build.
grand designs...sounds very interesting!
the best part is the double wine cellars - one for red wines, one for whites -- how posh is THAT!
It's a great programme, not your usual 'change a room in two seconds' approach.

I saw a show recently hosted by "The Hotel Inspector", seems to be on keeping historic homes 'afloat'. The one I saw was on a 15th century manor house - the garden was just too beautiful, even more than the house, which was jaw droppingly gorgeous

this is so frustrating! we have a channel here now called BBC America, and it was pretty good there for a while, but now it is dreadful, I am afraid. Literally six or seven episodes of cash in the attic a day. Not a bad show, I guess, but six eppys a day is a bit much.
'Cash in the attic' is not BBC's finest hour.

If you have to have repeats, I'm sure they could have come up with something better.

I went through about 50 or 60 names till I got to noodleberry and doodleberry to the n and d of respectively and voilà ... course in the same site there are two names I also use oodlesoberries with and with out underscores before and after the 'o'. and there you have... no you know the rest of the story
reason for oodlesoberries is cause I fergotted my password for oodleberry... one day I forgot one letter in my password and got in on the original name

Just start small. Look at the clothes on the floor of the wardrobe. Pick up 5 items and try on each item. Shoes as well. Pretend you are at a store. If you can't put it on, its uncomfortable put it in the give / sell bag, If its really crappy bin it. If it needs fixing put in a fixing bag. If the items need a wash put it in the laundry basket. Seriously If you wouldn't walk out the store with it WHY THE HELL IS IT IN YOUR WARDROBE

I had the same problem when my son was younger, but now that he is in college...they don't give partial credit for answers anymore, so it's not an isssue
we will have to see about the dog though. Bryan'll be in medical school for a year; thus it'll be my dog since he'll never be home. so I have to decide if I really want the added resposibility.

OMG... the first day of 5th grade they had to take a test where they added two three digit numbers and the paper did not say to show your work... she got a zero... I had never gone to school and complained about anything... so the teacher said well how do I know she did not cheat? I about hit the roof... so i brought her in front of the teacher and fired off a bunch of the same type of equations, which she did in her head in front of the teacher.. needless to say her grade got changed... LOL.

Well, really some of these teachers are just a pain in the a**... my kid is involved in the play right now and I would like to strangle those in charge as they should know the attention span of the average middle schooler, LOL!
Today I was informed that if you have classes in the building that houses the building students *they have a HUGE workshop and lots of glass so you can see in" you are not allowed to wear revealing clothes as its distracting to the boys. I told the teacher that it was the most ridiculous rule i had ever heard and that it was sexist. If a nice young lady can't wear a shortish skirt and singlet they can go get froged
So they spend 1/2 the time at rehearsals haranguing them, but there is just too much downtime for most of these kids...
Just thought I would tell you all a funny. Yesterday I took the hampster out for a romp in the grass and my cat was very upset that I didnt let her eat her. So this morning I woke up to a dead mouse in front of my bedroom door. I dont know if it was saying "see, I can get my own" or a threat to the hampster.

They have some reality show where they show these little kids participating in pageants and I find the whole thing so repellent.
I think part of the problem is that too many mothers have lost the ability to say 'no' and to stick to 'no' and not give in to pressure.
When I was a little girl I participated in The Little Miss America pageant for a couple of years because it was held close by at Palisades Park Amusement Park... and we wore pinafores and such...
I can't help but feel that what they're doing is putting temptation in the way of perverts - who need NO encouragement :( :( :(
oh, and as a teacher i saw girls bring clothes to school to change into them so that their parents didn't know what they were really wearing

he's still a little weak, but I think strong enough to get around at home, and they haven't determined if he can swallow thin liquids yet
but.... you do not need the offical best... you just let him eat!!! that is what the data says... it is very difficult for people to pass that fluoroscopic swallow eval, yet they do fine if just allwoed to eat
and btw, feeding tubes do NOT prevent aspiration if thyat is why they are doing the swallow eval, they actually make it more likely a patient will aspirate

Hello. No time for niceties; my heart is broken. When do you stop being a Mother? My son played his last lacrosse game today. He gave his all to the team and the sport. Last year he played with broken ribs and almost lost his life to pain killers. He's not only a great team member; he's a really good player. Final game today and the coach barely played him. I watched while he stood ready and didn't go in. It broke my heart. They weren't going to win. The score was too lopsided. He could have made a difference. The coach could have made a lasting memory for a young man who gave his all. And was damn good.
