I agree. My niece had a very nice oceanside wedding (small), reception in a restaurant, and a month-long European honeymoon, all for less than $10,000. My son will probably get stuck for close to $15,000 for the reception. I haven't even asked about the honeymoon.
I just feel sorry for brides today; expectations are so very high; they can easily lose site of what a wedding is really about

Was on while Walter finishes his pancakes and saw the chat-- we spent $400 on the rings (the goldsmith was a good friend of teh family), about $100 on the clothes, had the wedding in my grandparets' garden (reception too, and a driving honeymoon-- and most of our presents were hotels on the route, and money for the trip. And this coming Friday is our 16th anniversary.

okay, short story, and I don't really want to say too much: wasband called me friday to tell me he was moving out of his rental, into a house that he bought. In cash. With every single penny from our brokerage account. He already had the closing. It's done. and he never said a word. For weeks. He still won't say he wants a divorce, either. My poor children. He had them this weekend, and at some point said "get in the car, I want to show you the house I bought." That is how he told them.
