I was just sitting back as my kids reached 25 and 22 and anticipating grandchildren at some point in the future, when Other Half (who is 12 years younger than me)'s Ex Other Half had a maternal blip and decided to hand their 14-year-old daughter over to us. Whilst part of me resents what she's done to me ('cos I'm the one doing most of the looking after etc., that''s just the way it is when I'm at home and he's a work), most of me just hates her for what she's done to her child.

It's 8:24 pm here and I guess I'd better put my cool salad supper together.
Little things she's said make me realise that she's amazed at some of the stuff I do, that I'd do for any child inmy care. But, when she settles in and realises how strict I can be, she might not think I'm so marvellous. There again, from what she's said, I think all she wanted was to be cared for and told where the boundaries are.
I think all children really want and need what you're able to offer her, jac...kudos to you!

Pink - Other Half is her Dad and was never sure about leaving her with her mother. I, on the other hand, always thought that a child's place is with its mother. Thinking back, I wish she'd come along with him when she was 8. A lot of 'isues' for her might then have been avoided.
Better to have her late than never...so, just look what all three of you have -- each other! and it sounds like it's a very positive thing for all involved!
However, 14 is a malleable age, we might yet make it all come good.

Well, actually, it's 5 of us. My son (25) stilllives at home and kinda resents the intrusion, just like he did when he was 2 and his sister arrived. His sister has now left home, but lives not far away and is very supportive of her stepsister. Son still has some growing up to do, methinks.
He's not nasty to her, sometimes chats to her over teenage problems he remembers, but he can b a sarcastic bugger, just like his Dad was,
At 25, son has the ability to be on his own if he can't see that helping his stepsister is a blessing that she might not otherwise have.
