Interesting story Jill. We've been to Juno Beach and visited the interpretive center there. I would encourage everyone who finds themselves in the vicinity to make time for a visit. It is amazing that the casualties were not more than 50% -- they didn't have much of a chance.

I remember fondly when my Chino was just a little wrinkly tater
Gus is very good and obedient...tis a shame we have rules keeping him on a leash...Precious isn't as afraid of him as when we first met..she's petrified of anything that moves, until she acquaints herself..

Anthony Callea...an Australian Idol runner-up sings a version of "Bridge..." and a killer version of "The Prayer"
gn all!
Um Anthony Callea had been singer way before Idol its just pathetic that talent like him has to be on these shows to get reckonition
I've never heard Anthony Callea, I'm sure he's a great singer, but who would have the stones to TOUCH that song after Art Garfunkel or ARETHA?????
true, mi'Lady...but I'm glad his discs are availble here in the US for more to hear...
He would and can. I love Kelly Clarkson
many people try Met, but few actually can...
.....ah.. aretha...
Anyone else I've heard try stinks at it....
probably the best concert I have ever been to
I've not heard aretha's version....will have to find it...
outstanding
Aretha?? I've heard from friends who've seen her that she's lost it...
this was a long time ago.. and no.. she has it still
Pav - you've not heard Aretha"s version? It was only a hit 38 years ago....
prob more controlled following her opera training...
http://www.myspace.com/anthonycallea his stuff on myspace
ouch
It's a subjective thing, Ruru - a bunch of people can see a show, some will love it, some will hate the same show....
cr 7
thanks met...I was ten then...and deeply ensconced in a religious upbringing...even 70 miles SW of Detroit, we wouldn't have been able to listen...
ruru, you're an inspiration -- ty 4 the cr7

You poor thing...I guess being raised a Catholic (Until I reached the age of Reason) wasn't so bad....
Singing disapproved?
we did have good music
My b.f says he is a recovering catholic
At least I WAS able to grow up with Top 40....
Jilli, only in Spanish....interestingly enough, my mom didn't want me/us associating with the other hispanic kids...it was either other smart white kids or the church...which is why I identify moreso with anglos than hispanics
I am not so big on the catholic church ...
THAT makes two of us, Ruru
I'm taking a sabbatical from organised religion
belated yay, dart!!!
right on jilli
I am not so hot on mormons either

hi herin
my first movie was Aliens...I had to go to make sure my cousin's husband didn't wreck my car, but mom was not happy about it...
what a first movie!!
mine was Bambi
Well, what did you think after that, Pav?
I think the first movie I went to on a date was to see Dracula with a very cute boy.
my first full-length movies were Shirley Temple but at kids' parties we would have rented Charlie Chaplin, Our Gang, Mickey Mouse, etc shorts. I remember films getting stuck and starting to burn
My first date movie was "The Rocky Horror Picture Show"!!!
Jill i still have reels of Super 9 film that i have to convert
never wanted to ride with him again..late on he wrecked my older bro's car and hightailed it out of state...we never saw him again..my cousin said he was killed in a prison somewhere else...Of course, I loved sneaking out and watching other movies, but always by myself and where no one I knew could know me...
But werent you in your 20s by then??
gotta go night all

did you think I meant you?
Oh, he's fine thank you - and driving poor Valerie nuts! :P
is her nose still out of joint?
It's not really 'out of joint' - she's just irritated with him, because he's after her ears and tail and anything else he can nip at, any chance he gets! :P
she'll have to talk to him about that
Oh, she does . . .
You should see the full-size version of this photo of them, because the look on her face says it all! ;)
It's priceless - she is clearly not amused!
that's priceless JC
gmta

jc, a few nights/mornings ago I was asking if Valerie was feeling any better about Albie but I guess you'd gone back to bed or something, lol
There's a nice close-up of him laying on the lawn, and one in the house by the door.
Oh, OK Jilli - well do check my blog, then! ;)
I did check you blog at that time -- is there more news?

Morning all - any clues for the fe 5s please
fe + movement of the oceans: ***es
omg we now have hobbit and sily's arch enemy cat cooped up in our spare room
fe 5 + submarines use ***pedos to sink ships
he'd been left outside in the rain and was soaking and looking very unhappy
I take it Hobbit isn't happy then?!
hobbit is circling outside the door lol
ty soo much higgledy - been doing my head in
Not your cat? I do hope you have left it a tray ...
oh yes
and husband is working in there to keep him company
:-)
fe6?
fe6 means having lots of babies
i have changed my icon to a more appropriate image for my mood today
is fe6 a common word?
fe 6 -- danial boone found the **mberla** gap through the mountains for settlers going west
ty - never heard of that one before!
kazzer! I walk ed from Abbotsbury to Weymouth the other day :)
Hi all, little better grid today, I think!
hi
hi all, how are things
OH no why is the arch enemy at your place Ata
thx for fe6
he'd been left outside in the rain and was soaking and looking very unhappy
so I brought him in to be towelled off and warmed
the arch enemy?
OH no poor baby were is his fur parents?
no idea! buggered off for the weekend, I think
hobbit's arch-enemy, the huuuuuge fluffy tabby from next door
here, I thought you meant a person....
Aaaah! I love tabbies. Used to have one who followed me absolutely everywhere.
let me put a pic of him up, he's gorgeous really
OH my who would do such a bad thing and just leave the cat out that is shit
he looks a bit squashed there, but you get the idea!
Remember we once had a particularly stupid (but lovely) cat who looked out of the front door when it was raining, and then walked to the back door and looked out of there hopefully in case it wasn't raining out of that one!
looooool
awwww
arch-enemy really is an outdoor cat, he's half wild I'm sure, but still ...
I ahve thrown 2 bitch fits today
Nice tabby Ata! Prhaps I could drive down and kidnap him (or catnap him I suppose)
he really is a pretty pretty boy. but huge. and looks like a thug
Ata tell your neighbours that they are mean bastards for going away and not accomidating the cat
will!
and they can pay for a extra round of frontline for sily and hobbit cos I'm sure archenemy has fleas
Do they often go away and just leave him without shelter?
GOOD assholes
it's the first time I've seen him be left for more than a normal working day's worth
Pardon me i am in a really bad mood
Why such a bad mood herin?
oh just because noting unusual
people breathing near me you know the usual
lol! Sndz just like my wife herin!
lol herin
yep
everything remains suspiciously quiet from downstairs ...
Perhaps they are both asleep?

trivia du jour: Americans discard more than 425,000 cell phones EACH DAY. That is 155 million phones each year. Much of what is harvested when cell phones are recycled is precious metals, including gold and copper. There is enough gold in 200 cellphones to make one gold wedding band.
so when someone asks you, "but what's in it for the electronics recyclers?" . . . .
wow UNe

There had been rumors that Doctor Who characters Martha Jones and Mickey Smith might appear in Season 3, and asked about that, Lyn said "We were really keen to get them back." However, he said that the actors that play them are very busy and that ultimately, "It just didn't work out. It was a scheduling thing. However, we have some fantastic characters for you to meet." One of these new characters is Mr. Frobisher, played by Peter Capaldi. Lyn said Capaldi "Plays the grayest ranking civil servant. He finds himself in the middle of the biggest terror to face the Earth so far. So he's a very reluctant protagonist… or antagonist. He's somewhere in the middle! As for Rhys's expanded role, Myles said "It's natural for Rhys to come into more," and that while Torchwood's existence may have been a secret, since the series began, "A lot's happened that people have seen." Plus she said that Rhys's screen time "Makes for a lot of great drama between Rhys and Jack. It's very funny. " One fan asked if the character PC Andy gets "the recognition he deserves" this season, and Myles replied, "Oh, he gets the recognition he deserves! He's very funny. He's a great guy. He comes in and out all the time." She added that PC Andy helps Gwen a lot and "He's kind of a catalyst" for some plot turns.

haha.
do you know about lickety's list?
don't fret. I am old here. and I still struggle. (:
oh, welcome smaan to the land of Babble. It does get a bit easier once you become familiar with a few obscure words :)
You should download babblepro. It helps quite a bit.
someone told me about list but trying without looking
Your should realy look if it's your first time.
it can help you a lot in the beginning...
If you challange yourself you won't like the site very much. :/ Make it easy for yourself. (:
I recommend it..then you can learn your way around the board
we all try w/o list til we get stuck, then list relieves the frustration, lol
nothing breeds a babble addict like success with a grid ..lol
haha. (:
what is the web address for babble pro
scroll down to lickety's list

Afternoon again people, how is everyones day going along?
hi red
hi, everyone - and hi, red - did you settle your house sale?
FInal report form the inspection on monday. I am tyring not to think on it too much. Apparently they are going to do a septic tank inspection as well, so I hope nothing is wrong with the septic system...
hope it goes well for you
here's the kind of day I've been having.... brought work home - staff evaluations... not very brain-intensive work, just a lot of paperwork, so...
I did a lot of exercise and house cleaning and trying to deal with dog who is very restless....
I worked about an hour and did 8, then found out I had already done two at the office ! so mad at myself for wasting that time
and for being careless and absent-minded
Thanks for bringing up "work brought home" JBV....i brought some to and up to now I've been able to avoid thinking about it (lol)!
well, I hope you don't do anything twice needlessly, as i did!
evening everyone
just had my septic tank emptied. It's in good shape. Now if it would only drain....
I dont think so. but possibly...
well, not quite that; but I do occasionally get the test info on the wrong student and have to back track to fix!
I am watching some track and field, and one of these ladies looks suspiciously like she is using steroids....which bothers me.
HI Katie
Hi Mixi, I sure hope mine is in good shape, its hardly been used.
hello everyone - how many words today?
143
Hi JBV
thanks
Katie! How are you?
hi all! just finished...in ti4 for me to do housework...
Hi red good thanks, you?

Congrats Dan2!
Yes, same here PAV3 - which is why I'm not often here.
Life and career often get in the way of Babbling . . . damn it. :/
yw...glad to be of help...I'm supposed to be heading to Vegas at the end of this week for a few days..the poopies to the sitter...but my friends haven't called to update me on plans...
Totally unreasonable of them lol
Yes, yes, I know Katie! :P
Oh sorry - you were saying tha to PAV! :P
I'm realy hungry but want to see the end of the cricket sigh
Erm - 'that'. I think my typing flew out the window.
thanks for the clue
JC I think she was answering you!
no JC I was answering you honestly :-)
Hmmm . . . don't know, PAV. I'm confused - as always! :P
and it is true, work and life do get in the way at ti4s when Babble is all we want to do...
Oh, OK Katie - good then, I don't feel as silly as I was about to! ;)
what are the long word stats ??
eureka! fireworks! anyone need clues before i return to the tar pits?

congrats welki
wtg Welkie!

Thanks Pav3
so Welki, if you'd care to help, I'll be off...
nm got it.
okie .. will stay for a bit :)
See you another ti4,5 then, PAV3! ;)
congratulations on the new member of your family, j.c.!
Thank you, welki! :) Yes, some of us are happy about it! :P
One of us doesn't seem too impressed, yet . . . :P
She'll come around though, eventually!
Well, actually two - the cat just stays out of his way!
there's always an adjustment period until dominance is established ... so long as valerie designates boundaries, it'll work out fine
might hear a yelp or two in the process, though
Well, yes - but Val's not bad with him. She seems to realise he's a baby and she's pretty tolerant - she is just very irritated wtih him, and will let him know!
She does growl and occasionally snap - but gently, without actually biting him.
Hi all...are there any clues please for the in words??
sounds like she's teaching him proper puppy manners, something our rescues often to come to us without
Oh, you rescue dogs also?
all the "in" words have the same root and relate to bringing something forth (like labor)
thanks welki...
i don't run a rescue organization, but all my dogs (with only one exception) have been rescues
(and cats, too)
I wish everyone who wants a dog would do that . . . :( The shelters are overflowing, with lovely dogs and cats that end up being put down. And some even knowing that, insist on going to breeders and pet shops, which is only supporting the problem. :(
Good for you, welki - same with mine, since I left my parents' home more years ago than I care to think about!
takes a special person to adopt a rescue, j.c. they often come with baggage that isn't noticeable at first blush
My first dog was a mongrel from a shelter also - and she lived to be 19 years old. Very healthy, until her old age.
Yes, I know - but most of those problems aren't insurmountable, with a lot of love, attention and patience.
only those people who are willing to make a lifelong commitment will keep their rescues, baggage or not, for the long haul. we're the folks who pick up the pieces the folks who aren't willing to commit leave in their wake
any clues on the DU 7?
people who think they're ready to adopt companion animals often don't do the breed research necessary before they do ... and end up with dogs that are totally incompatible with lifestyles, income, time frames. education, education, education ... but people have children much the same way, without researching what they're getting into before they make the "plunge"
du 7 -- sand du*es and the stuff of fertilzer: ***rog*n
Makes me wonder why some adopt rescues then, welki - knowing they often come with issues. :/ Yes, and I've found a lot of people just get dogs on a whim, without knowing anything about a certain breed - merely because they like the look of it! :/
And yes, welki - there are many people who have children, when they probably shouldn't. :(
after several years here, I have no doubt that people care more of pets than each other
i think the rescue adoptions are done with good intentions, j.c. and doubt that most folks adopt potentially problematic animals thinking that they'll end up back in the system. but they do :(
Hmmm . . . I wouldn't say that's so of us, BR. Our 'pets' are definitely family members, though. :)
people are still getting killed all over the world and not a word in the chat
how so, babble? i seem to get the feeling that the folks here are pretty compassionate and empathetic people
clues for fe6/36 and to6/21
thnx for DU clue
you hear of the stress for top flight tennis players b;ut not the stress of evading bullets
Yes, very true welki - but I wish more shelters were like the one I've adopted my dogs and cat from. They do an extensive interview with the prospective adopter, and have you fill out an lengthy questionnaire, to determine compatability - they're very careful about matching up dogs and prospective guardians, to ensure a successful adoption. I know some don't do that . . .
ahhh, i see. maybe because it's more of a political venue, one that most people would rather leave in their "real" worlds, than here in cyberspace, where it's easier to "forget" things like war, hunger, homelessness...
ro7 clue?
fe 6 -- danial boone lead settlers through the **mberla** gap on their journey west
maybe there's no conversation about those things because people come here as an escape
ro 7 -- plant growth below ground and to rent is to *** .. or a serve that hits the net
ty BR got the fe
(the rescue organization i deal with interviews and does a house visit, too, but there will always be people who are smooth talkers and, sometimes, people who are earnest about their adoptions, but have unplanned life changes)
to 6 == spanish bull and freud term
Thanks BabbleRabble - got it in the end
Got that also. Great clues BR
---------FIREWORKS--------
Yes, unfortunately, welki . . . :/ Still though, it must help reduce potential problems, I'm sure.
wtg matches :)
By the way, welki - you have Flickr mail. ;)
I must put my oar in for dedicated purebred breeders, whose "progeny" don't end up in shelters, and who do their own rescuing as well as for others.
well i'm learning lessons in here all the time, even at my ancient age ... babble, you stir the pot and then disappear. second time you've done that while i'm having a conversation with someone. don't know what i've ever done to tick you off, but maybe people talk about things that make them feel good (like rescuing animals) instead of the dismal because we get enough of that at work, through the media and from you.
oar removed
agreed, jilli .. which is why i have one purebred golden from a reputable breeder. i'd never had a puppy before this guy, wanted to see if there's a difference in temperament ... nah, none. but the purebred has NO baggage and that's kind of nice :)
TO 4/8......help, Please
Yes, Jilli - but unfortunately, there are all too many people breeding, who shouldn't be. :( You know the sort I mean - people who do it as a 'hobby' without doing any research, the 'backyard breeders', those who just want to let their purebred dog have a litter, etc. :/
I must be brain dead ... clue please for me 4
absolutely, welki and JC.
soodle .. to4/8 ... taken.
Pass me the tuna, please
Ta Welki
hello Babblers
any clues for WA7?
merk it happens on a hot day
in water or oil?
it is a compound word Ollics
we are having it right now in Iraq
Most people, Jilli, have no business thinking about breeding, and even those who are responsible about it, should be limiting it when there are so many lovely dogs and cats dying in shelters, for a lack of available homes. :( I couldn't breed, and contribute to that problem . . . I think only those producing the very best, healthiest, soundest specimens of each breed and who do thorough research into their lines' health history and have all the requisite health-checks done have any business undertaking it. Nobody else should think about it - then we wouldn't have this problem! Well, I'm sure you agree with that . . . ;)
I just read the beginning of too many people breeding that shouldn't be. It turned about to be talking about dogs, but I initially reached a different conclusion ... that made sense, too. LOL
ty, I was brain dead.
welki, i'm sure brabble wasn't aiming anything at you. i think he was just brooding on the horrors of the world, and sometimes, i know myself, when you get thinking about that, you just sort of start to feel like, how is it that we can all carry on these normal lives when people in other parts of the world are suffering so much? it just... hits you sometimes.
Did you get into the blog all right by the way, Jilli?
doh - already had it, need the ro 7 though
ollics- did you get the wa7?
Yes, JC, I agree, and we were the careful breeders you describe, doing so in a very small way. And so do lots of others. My proof is my book -- 372 8 x 11 pages of research, pedigrees, photographs gathered over some 20 years
LOL _ need the ro7 too
Yes, I am certain you were, Jilli . . . it's a pity all who undertake it aren't like you, though. :(
DR1965 - Yeh, realised already had it
i know its been a while.... hello waves to Babblers
to 5/12, please
jillibus, which breed?
need the RO7
Hi Lore
Great Danes, welki - she has a beautiful one in a photo on her Flickr account. :)
hugs for everyone that can see as far as australia
The Canadian Kennel Club (CKC) among others are doing their best to educate the public.
Oh, I am rather annoyed...been watching a great afternoon of track and field, and the local news decided to ruin the last half an hour of it by breaking in to talk about a weakening storm...
to 5/12 = to*** pole
Rant over.
welki -- Great Danes -- you can check out my bio and flickr pix
hi there DR
go ahead and rant Red...
Welki - your a gem.
hi red .. your rant is over and i'm in mid-rant (see below) *lol*
I was going to say thatWelki but it is an interesting convo
I actually was so irritated I emailed the station to complainn! thats very unlike me.
I have been lurking
Hello Jilli and all. Read the chatlog for the last several minutes. This is one place wecan create our own virtual universe. Friends who can hear us out and cheer us on. Wouldn't be bad for the real world either.
Yes, I hope so, Jilli . . . I wish the public who merely want pets, would think of adopting rescues first, though. The cost of a purebred puppy would save the lives of a few shelter dogs . . . and they're far less likely to get homes, of course. It makes me so sad, thinking of what might've happened to my dogs, had I not adopted them. :(
HiStidg
RO 7 any clues anyone??
red -- looking at your photos reminds me -- as I was driving home from Victoria the other day and was stuck in crawling traffic, there was a battle going on overhead -- a crow pestering an eagle over and over again.
Hi dr Oh ollics I am so scattered on the grid. I don't think I've got any ros.
Indeed, stidgmere - and I'm fortunate to have that, amongst my family and personal friends. :) Plus, my dog is always a good listener! ;) The pup, well . . . he listens when it suits him. :P The cat is indifferent of course - as cats are. ;)
Wow Jilli, something to see!
ro 7 - what anchors a tree (singular) and to allow
to cats.. we are human can openers.. and that is about it..lo
MU 4/6, please
Any one here growing aloe plants?
a bus in a city soodle
I am
Oh my goodness, Jilli - must've been an awfully brave or foolish crow?! :/ I don't think if I was a crow, I'd want to risk taking on an eagle . . . :P
We have had eagles and three ospreys flying in our area this past week. I have aloe in the house, red.
can you tell me why my newly transplanted one are going brown?
hi there ruru
JC, I'm all for adopting pets from shelters too.
HAHAHA, yes - exactly, ruru.
Got it!
hi lore
too much water, red
welcome to PRO soodle..glad you like the game enough to go pro
that would be my guess as well
I was wondering if too little sun might do it?
I am merely Gloria's catering service, groomer, doorperson and janitor . . . :P Oh, and head/neck/back scratcher . . .
it could
ta vm
I've seen that crow vs eagle battle before too -- some years ago. I was amazed but when I told people they insicated that it is not all that unusual!
they don't like real cold or lots of water
red maybe you are overwatering it
hi all
That's amazing, Jilli - you'd think an eagle could make short work of a crow?!
well, ruru we have heat galore, but its been very wet, I suppose I could take a blow dryer to the soil...
hi there jmc
By the way, Jilli - did you manage to get into my most recent blog all right?
I've never seen anything like that Jilli, I would like to...
you should see a mocking bird and a crow go at it
do that and your neighbors will think you are nuts red...
And see the photos of the puppy? :)
it needs light, red .. just like a cactus
*waves to australia*
hi Lore!
the crow is more manoeuverable
with the recent storms, not so much light but it is still Florida...
waving back to jmc hugs red and jilli
hi, lore, jm
hello there welki
yeah but a mockingbird beats up a row everytime
Yes, JC -- and I had got into it before and told you about it but you must have left the chog or got buried int he grid, lol!
why is droid not a word
it is short for android
we have aggressive magpies here in alberta, i wouldn't be surprised to see them duke it out with an eagle
I tried it too DR!
"These are not the words you're looking for .."
Oh, I probably did log off, Jilli - hardly ever have much time for this these days. :/
hi torg
And welki - you have more Flickr mail . . . ;)
magpies are nuts! They used to dive bomb Teulu in NC.
Heyas kids ..
I can imagine, JC! Busy boy!
You know, welki - now you have me picturing magpies wearing boxing gloves on the ends of their wings! :P
and a lovely starling as ring card girl
Yes, Jilli - too busy, sometimes! :/
heya torg
I have to go and grab some lunch
Hi Torg, how goes the working schedule?

Penguins are adorable! :)
ah I missed that connection!
ad 6 i'm obviously not this then -???
HAHAHA, ruru . . .
Trust you - you put me to shame sometimes, as a comedian! :P
I would expect a rowdier crowd for the boxing match though --- maybe Jay Birds?
ad + a large miss-behaving group or protesters
mixed up that is
and a pileated woodpecker can be Don King
lol welki
ad6 to be skilled at something
or to the right in french
Now you have e-mail, welki . . . ;)
oui
Heya red .. getting a bit better .. I'll be off this job soon ..
What about chickens? My rooster Blake should be involved in this . . .
is there just 1 AD6?
yes
chickens? what the cluck?
only 92 to go - woo hoo!! lol
Actually, our hens would make a good audience, too - they could cluck their disapproval. :P
HAHAHA, ruru - just saw you say that, after I typed my last comment and pressed 'Enter'. :P
plus we could have egg salad sandwiches afterwards
Erm, some of us wouldn't . . . :P
sorry... tofu for you
du 7 Please?
there will be fruit and granola for the vegans
It is like the previous word du6, only with a double consonant, Soodlebum . . .
du + cons. + opp iof day
I hate granola
it's like eating gravel
Oh, we eat heartier, more interesting and delicious food than that, welki - you'd be amazed at the dishes we have. :)
I's rather have fried chicken ;-)
Yes, I'm not overly fond of granola - although some are better than others . . .
thanks ruru
:(
(JM is related to the Colonel)
nah, i wouldn't (kids are vegans) .. fruit and granola is all i have in my cupboard for you :)

I just can not seem to get into this grid today. I have 6q left and still have 2 blank tiles
zoozzoom ... sorry I ran out quickly yesterday, but my computer was playing up and annoying me!
would you like us to give you some clues red?. :-)
hey no probs Mo :-)
not really, I dont have the list yet, but am just....
you can do it red..come on :-)
I think i dislike this grid a little.
I thought it was a bit difficult today ... took me longer than I expected.
once you get the list it goes very quickly
did anyone clue the cr6?
cr6 is a bulbous plant.
i must go. bbl to finish, ty for those in clues and see you later
bye TO
bye TO.
cr6 ... cr + 1st person + 10 is a ***ber.
thx mo
yw Shirlockc.
ro7?
ooo nm, got it
ro7 ... smaller version of the ro4/4 before it.
oops too late.
I must wend my weary way now .... goodnight all ... see you soon.
nite mo. b well.
bye dinok.
bye Mo :-)
and zoozzoom.
Stuck on mu4.Help!
I really am off now ...... poof....
mu + good **ght mo!
Thanks dinok
any help for ci6 pls?
ci 6/21 ci + cross letter + bull fighters cheer
oh tyvm luv, monkeyed around that for ages!
are cross letters always the same ones?
hi br, I only think of one letter as cross letter, but I am relative novice here
CR5/14 + LO4/5 should be a word. Oh and hi!
as in dot the ... and cross the ...
he's making a joke, dinok :P at least I think so LOL
oops, sometimes i get to gridized!!
*grins*
it's so easy to do!
and BR does have a very - unique - sense of humour lol
hi gramma. LOL. we have had worse compound words b4!
and I my unique lack of it. lol!
it's late!
clue for the mu6?? pls?
any clues for du6/24. I cannot see words anymore
if you've got the du7, take a consonant out of it
ty ata. mu6 is same as other mu derivatives, with robot ending
ty! I just could not see that ending!
yvw. brits gotta help each other when burning the midnight oil!
absolutely!
I guess I should say firebirds too! Evil grid, glad it's finished!
Hey, wtg ata!! congrats!!
that was hard work today
yep. it is!
it's good for the soul, or something
THis grid is not good for the soul...its bothering me.
42 to go and no list yet . . .
howdy to all
fraid i agree with red! my soul is slowly sinking at the moment! hi une
I have 58 left, no list, but the list is sort of interesting to me at the moment.
have piddled on and off . . . French Open then Babble, errands then Babble, watering and weeding then Babble
well, I tend to agree actually!
I am still so irritated that I missed the end of the Prefontaine classic for a 30 min warning abotu a storm that didnt happen.
jared leto is in prefontaine
they do that here too, red -- infuriating -- interrupt for big blocks of time to tell you every second of the progress of a storm!
yes, leto was there. I dont know why they cant run it across the bottom after the end...
becca LOL
was he there because he played the role in the movie??
lol i met him
well, THAT was fun!
it was nice. he wasnt so nice though but.. it didnt ruin it.
dunno, I missed most of it. Saw only the steeplechase (Mens), and that was about it.
I was watching the track and field event though today, not the movie.
oh well, pootie tootie to Mr. Leto!
?
kje! hey!
hi une
hi red
hello kje. Just running stuff, an me being irriatated about a 30 min tv interruption to show off their radar.
off to shower and watch the Tony Awards -- later! *poof*
tis annoying red
bye une, its also the NBA playoffs tonight.
I actually emailed the station about it....which was a little whiney but really.
I'm going to pooof too. Any clues needed before I go?
red - admitted a 38 year old somatisizer this morning... sympathy?
hi ata!
no, haven;t started, contemplating my options
Oh dear. kje. you have some fun. those people stink. though I sometimes think I am one.
kje this grid stinks avoid it.
nah - I can tell even just from the chog that you are not that personality
thanks for the warning red!
I had a 8000 workup in the ER lastmonth because I was sure I had appendicitis. I was so angry when I didnt....
are they particularly problematic?
LOL - you SGOULD have been releived when you didn't!
I know, but I was annoyed because they never did find out what it was, and I still sometimes have the pain, right at McBurnys point...
yes ata... a challenge... sick, but of a different kind - feel sorry for her in many ways, but they can drive you batty
ovary, red
hi all
No, my ovaries were beautiful.
mittelshmirtz
hi nancy!
hi nkrii, how are you and the shoulder?
are they worse than real hypochondriacs or munchausen patients? *intrigued*
different from that, i think its sort of a pulled psoas thing.
what's a somatizer please?
Ata, they are hypochondriacs.
I'm good, red
my shoulder is okay... other shoulder started to hurt today... ugh
Oh no Nrkii! terrible.
somatization... soma means body... essentially, they have some underlying psych problems but they express it in their bodies, have lots of vague symptoms that never respond to anything
oh - I thought hypochondriacs didn't actually have real symptoms adn somatisers did, of some sort. Oh well.
yes, thats what I thought ... but isn't that different to hypochondria?
my dad's hospital bill came in... any guesses? he was in ICU for 3 1/2 weeks, had 4 surgical procedures, and 2 weeks on respiratory intermediate floor...
over a million for sure.
we do not use hypochondriac anymore... and somatization is a real illness... just in the head... can leave people quite incapacitated, but until they are willing to work with psych and get some insight, there is not a lot to do for them except reassurance
oh no, way under a million... wow, I didn't expect anyone to guess high
scared to ask nrkii
Nrkii, I work in a hospital, stuff costs a ton.
so what do you official call hypochondriacs? As in someone saying he was dying of swine flu when he'd sneezed twice?
the whole bill nrkii - or just your porton?
somehow, I had $100,000 in my head before the bill came in... it came in at $320,000
the whole bill, thank god
my parents have to pay....
$500
I just learned that people with Munchausens have about a 50% mortality rate due to their behaviors. its and odd one.
wow!
thats good insurance nrkii.
320 sounds about right - average day in hospital (non ICU) 2-3K
Munchausens is just scary
fascinating chat today, hello all
yep, very good coverage... my mom was freaking out while my dad was in ICU, thinking she wouldn't be able to afford it... I read her insurance book and told her it was probably going to cost her $500
hello featherweed.
I've had a munchausen's patient - fascinating - was painting her leg red tto get admitted and abx for cellulitis... also had an admit earlier for "hematuria" which ended up being koolaide in the urine - LOL
still haven't seen the bill from the rehab hospital, but I imagine that will be a lot less
yes nrkii - will be much much less
it really is a strange and quite impressive disease, the lengths people will go to with munchausens
should be free -- they were PATHETIC
hi weed... you who deceive your children into thinking a lake is an ocean
I had a patient multiple times in the ER that would overload herself with water to mess up electrolytes, and then inject self with bath water...
rehab hosptial is not usually known for excellent care, sad to say.
OMG!! fell asleep at kboard. hi kje, nrkii, feather. Grid's beat me today, I have to go to bed. TC all. *poof*
hehe, what would we call that syndrome?
munchausen's is very interesting.. oh god, red, that's horrible
shit red! she is lucky she didn't die!
She was a very sad person.
bye dinok
weed... we call it motherhood
this rehab hospital was so logistically tangled up in themselves they couldn't provide good care... all they need is a director of operations to straighten them out
someone I know over here had someone who would inject faeces into their arm and any cuts / grazes. Just scary
I think she did eventually die. It was insane, I mean who knows that there is a decon shower in the ER...
but it's run by medical professionals who don't understand process
yes, I had a patient with a porta cath who would inject feces... lovely conversation, no?
wow, reading up on munchausen's on wiki
Oh kje, I delivered (lol) a baby the other day. Did I tell you?
just charming!
that's a good way to get yourself killed painfully and quickly
sorry to hear that nrkii - in contrast to red, I think there are many very good rehab facilities out here
no red! good for you!
this guy died from septacaemia. unsurprisingly.
kje, I do too... we just didn't end up in one
a baby human, or something else?
I am sure there are, but I have not been to any nor met any patients from them.
I can't spell tonight *sigh*
Yes, one "empuje" and the baby spilled out...thank goodness alive and with all parts, no prenatal care, no english.
lol "baby human"
Oh yes, baby Girl. Very pretty Apgar 8 and 9.
my dad had septicemia (sp) 17 years ago... ruptured colon... that was our FIRST experience with him near death in ICU for 3 1/2 weeks
i gave up on spelling in the chog, ata, my typing is so bad i would never get anything said if i worried about that
he was kind enough to wait 17 years for the SECOND
cr7?
yay RED!
am glad he is better nrkii... all uphill from here I hope
lol me too. but I do apologise on occasion when I'm tired!
congrats red!!! kinda fun, as long as it all goes well
Yes well, I sort of forgot about the placenta...I assumed it would deliver itself, LOL...
Yes, I dont want to do it again this week.
LOL red
oops
That cr 7/40 word has to do with the brain HollyF.
that is a BIG oops, BTW
he's doing so much better... though only gained 2 pounds in past month, so still only 117 (he's 5 foot 7)
thanks
nrkii - don't agonize over it... let him be
thanks Min
yw
I"m letting him be 3 states away from me :)
mineryork, no wonder I couldn't find it!!
Oh yes, but thats why I am not a doctor. I did remember however to look at it and make sure it looked normal afterwards :)
oooo - good lookin' choice today min!
Oooh He can drink Nutrament, I think its better and tastier than Ensure.
did you remember to clamp the cord? that is what newbies often forget... then whoosh... blood loss!
Thanks kje!
Oh yes. THe only wierd thing is that baby and umbilical cord seperated themselves...
that is odd... how could that happen? never seen that
Plus, within 5 min, there were hoards of people in the room.
hey, kje, your turn btw. yours too, nrkii. i have a bath calling me, will bbl!
It was very friable. the cord. the mother had no prenatal care, and baby was maybe 6 pounds.
see ya feather!
well, i hope they all remembered to thank you red!
so sad red
OK, I am still at the hospital, but done now, and will head home.... may find some food on the way - will see you all later
19 left... need list if I'm going to have a shot at this
see ya kje!!
No, I had to go back to triage, I think the cord may have been torn because Mom half delivered in car...I had to seperate the little girls head from a very interesting thong to get her out...
LOL red *have mental image* LOL
poof
laughing and yet squirming at that image
It was a little odd nrkii, but it always is.
in the ER that is.
Fireworks
no wonder I couldn't get those last C's... ugh!
yay Merk!!
Congratulations Merk on your fireworks! Good for U!
ty, see you tomorrow sometime, if my grandson's naps allow
Congrats Merk, Baaa Booom!
bye merk!
Goodbye Merk!I will see you tomorrow in the chat log
bye

Be sure to cheer for the Magic tonight, they are really the underdogs...we need them to continue playing for the economy.
will do red...
I know the Lakers will take the series but...I want the series to go on for the full seven, so we can all benefit from ticket sales and hotel taxes etc.
it would be great for the sheer fun as well
I am cheering for the Tony awards myself - SUCH a theatre nerd....

Hello, Trifioso! :)

evening all... une here?
yes . . .
watching the Tony Awards, dorens?
I am!!!
did you get home okay, dorens?
Hello Dorens! How are you doing? Welcome to the grid
hey, trif! have been taping but also watching on and off ;-)
WordTwist has a chat, but you can't play and chat at the same time. I just play the game and do not chat.
the opening number had me flying around the ceiling!
me too. just so amazingly exciting. what a year! makes me want to jump on a bus RIGHT NOW
Goodbye mkg! I will see you tomorrow in the chat log
you can do like I do and enjoy all the plays thru Dorens, our designated theatre-goer!
my daughter was in Brooklyn for a long weekend with her friend who's due to give birth any minute! They had a wonderful visit but didn't make to any shows. :-)
Dorens, are you there?????
just got in and turned them on. i had guy swerve into my lane from opposite traffic and come right at me.. i swerved to the left but he clipped me on the right. I am fine... but the car was undriveable.. happened in ct on the way down, not far from my friend's house
oh noooooooooooo!!! I'm so sorry!!!!!!!!!
turned it on in time to see god of carnage won best play. checked to see if you were on and then had major computer lag
oh, my dear dorens, I am so glad you are okay, but so sorry about your car!!!
have enjoyed seeing Tony Soprano in the audience, with Carmela sitting right behind him!
well i am totally unhurt, just majorly inconvenienced. the other guy then swerved across the road again and into a tree. but he's ok. he says he blacked out and totally admits it was his fault... and I had borrowed Ken's car for this.. needed the big SUV as I was bringing a lot of baby things up to Phoebe's parents in preparation for baby #2
good lord, dorens!! How lucky for everyone that he didn't injure anyone!
the fact that you are unhurt is a major blessing. I am so thankful you are all right!
sos my friend drove me home, and will manage to get to work tomorrow and life will go on. yes, it is amazingly lucky. can't believe i swerved in time... the sight of him coming straight at me was no fun, particularly since this happened to us back in november.. that time a very definitely drunk guy came straight at us in our lane too@
and here is this miserable grid that does not look friendly at all! i managed a bit this morning while phoebe was busily entertained.. but still have 62 left. Une, did 33 variations win anything?
Yikes Dorens!!!
jane fonda did not win, dorens
the dead reel was wicked, wicked sad this year - we lost some amazing people
yikes indeed--sorry to hear about Jane, she really was marvelous. how about marcia gay harden?
so far it''s only won for Best Scenic Design . . .
yuup, she took it for god of carnage, and her speech was really sweet
Marcia Gay Harden won!!
I have no idea what you're talking about
Tony Awards!
Trif, I agree -- and it was a real punch in the stomach to see Paul Newman . . . I still can't believe he's gone . . .
33? that's interesting.... scenic design was good, but didn't realize it was that good. Marcia was good. I thought Jane better, but oh well!
OH! Sorry -- didn't watch, and I'm Pacific Coast anyway
i wouldn't watch either jilli, if I lived out west... I can't imagine it would be fun if you didn't ever get a chance to see the theater
Watching 60 Minutes now
good evening, could someone give a clue for the 8 word, please
Dorens, here's the list so far: http://tinyurl.com/ywv4eg
I loved going to the theatre on the cheap when I lived in NYC
you should try it jili - the show itself is really fun. the energy is inescapable, and the shows tour, you know
anyone have a clue for mu 4,6 please?
and there are lots of revivals, so you'd be familiar with the music
you know -- go at the last minute and get leftover seats, probably in the gods
Trif, I *have* watched the Tonys in the past -- just missed it this time
mu4 OLD actor Paul Mu**
ty une. and yes, jilli.. anyway you can see thm it is fun
I don't mind revivals, but this rush to turn every moderately successful movie into a musical is starting to chap me
and Dorens, you are a slaughterhouse in Lexulous :(
oh, i totally agree but I DO love West Side Story, Hair, and Guys and Dolls
wonderful icon, jilli (as always!!!)
I could have seen Oklahoma when it first played on Broadway -- a firend's dad offered us a choice of tickets to that or Phil Silvers. Right. Wrong choice.
jili i can't explain it... fabulous good fortune in most games... and everytime i play fuqayvarina i get slaughtered!
must admit i'm enjoying hair on the show right now
my mom saw tony perkins in equus, back in the day....my jealousy all but consumes me
Haven't seen Hair. Guilt arises -- it was written by the borther of one of my McGill pals.
Thanks, Une, re the icon :)
I can't believe stockard channing was in pal joey and I didn't know it.....I am so pissed
it was very topical... of the day.. didn't think it would be right now... but it did just win best revival of a musical
yes, lovely icon jilli
oh, hair won!!! can you imagine the hollering going on back stage? whoops - on stage now!!!

Hey, I just checked -- the Tonys come on here in about 15 minutes :)
long straight curly fuzzy ....
lucky you! i missed most of them.. enjoy jilli. and don't turn it off before you see hair
hi all could you clue ro7 please?
I can really recommend the show, jili. this year's opening number alone was worth watching
twisted beaded braided. mangled spangled and confettied.....
straggly greasy cheesy matted
AND SPAGHETTIED......
OH SAY CAN YOU SEE
MY EYES
IF YOU CAN MY HAIR'S TOO SHORT....
if you can, then my hair's too short!
All I know about Hair is I think someone gets nekkid
LAH LAH LAH LAH....
If i wasn't a tired aging baby boomer I would remember the whole song...
and that it was written by a Canadian (such boring people)
there is one brief nude scene written into the play, the producers "ran with it" so to speak....
harp -- I nearly picked that unicycle pic for my icon that day
i met a boy names Frank Mills on September fourth right here, in front of the Waverly, but unfortunately, i lost his address....
i love it jill; I'm going to leave it up for a while
hi, all
DHP is reading these nominations like he is double parked...show must be over time
Hello pam! How are you doing? Welcome to the puzzle
hi pamaram :)
Who is DHP?
Hi, jilli!
hey pam
He was last seen with his friend, a drummer who resembles George Harrison enough that people stare, but he wears his hair tied in a small bow at the back
I had to turn the Tonys off. Too much after a bit.
ro7 please?
okay, this chick is bugging me. Save the drama for the stage
Long as I can grow it, my Hair....
hi, dor
ro 7/28 is a baby ro 4/4 or ro 4/4 + permit robbie09.
i muted her already trif
Who is DHP>

ohh, wasn't in the room wiht the TV -- yes, Dorens, over-the-top incredible in Spamalot!!!
we're probably watching in different time zones, they are singing What I Did For Love in my tv set right now...
I'd like to see spamalot -- is it on DVD?
no, jilli
oh, that is the dead reel, harpjane...well worth watching
wish it were. I'd buy it for sure
Saw the Billy Elliott movie -- great one
Jilli, I'm not a laugh-out-loud-in-the-theatre type person but I HOWLED thru Spamalot!
rats, une
me too, dorens
me too une.... i described myself as rolling on the floor
I can well imagine, une, from what I've heard
www.montypythonsspamalot.com/media.php
I get so bummed out when really really fabulous broadway actors think they need to go on tv....what a waste
(some segments from Spamalot)
thanks, une!
I dearly want to see spamalot
perfect example - sara ramirez wins a tony and totally kicks a** in spamalot, and now is dr. torez on grey's anatomy. is that the best use for all she can do? I hardly think so.
$$$$$$$
she was hilarious lady of the lake
Broadway doesn't pay the big bucks
