afternoon guys. He's happy, curled up asleep and having a grumble wholst doing so. It's been a lovely spring day here so he has been able to be naked which always makes him frisky

I met a cute black spaniel the other day but seemed a little small. How much does Hobbit weigh Ata?
she's a lump - she weighs about 18kg. but cockers are very stocky compared to other spaniels
this must have been an 'other' one _ I would have guessed only 10 kg
probably either a young cocker or a decent sized king charles
that is about what terra will weigh when he is full grown, lyn
terra is 8 kg now, he is slim but a real male kcc, very muscled and all.
"normal" cockers rather than "working" cockers are a bit less lump-like
Not a King Charles, a fine/slim head on this one. maybe just young one
terra has a fine head as well. Some breeders try to get back the nose, so to speak, because the too short one gives problems with smelling and with the eyes

No, our first dog was a dalmatian, affectionately known as our bimbo dog, since she was very pretty but dim. Spangle is pretty and much brighter up top.
Hobbit is my first spaniel too (well, we had her brother for a year as well). BUt I dont' think I'd want anything but a spaniel now, given the choice
in dutch we call those 'rice 'n' currants'' dogs.

We probably wouldn't have chosen a dalmatian, but she was a gift from friends. She was very affectionate, but shed hair like you wouldn't believe.
Spaniels do seem to have very loving natures..and always enthusiastic
except when kept in kennels :P

they are just such joyful dogs. they make you smile
when we were thinking about which breed to choose, Ata told me to go for a spaniel: loving, 'real doglike' dogs, playful, sweetnatured and smart.

true Andree. The lady dog trainer we go to even told us to NOT put terra's name on his address label. She said spaniels are often kept when found. Because they are so cute.

The eyes and the paw on the leg, or the head plonked on the lap with the eyes gazing at you - lethal combination.
and she also said a colleague of hers writes on the label that the dog needs daily medication. It is going a bit far, I think, but I can see the reason.

I did try stepping away and ignoring him (can't walk far of course, alas) but terra was much better at that game.

and when he finally came, he wagged his little tail and smiled (yes spaniels do smile) and was totally enthusiastic. And he did come. So what does one do then?

Mostly it does, sprite, although tissues are irrestible for ever, it seems. Spangle can't leave them undisturbed in the waste paper bins.

She can leave magazines, newspapers etc but tissues or chocolate wrappers have to be given the treatment.
i hope they answer soon, can't get one next week as we have a dog visitor for a week[ex son in law is going to japan and we mind max when he goes away, a lovely very well behaved border collie which the kids have known since they were born
oh they are Terra's favorite too. And it is the cutest thing to see, him keeping the tissue between his paws and shredding it into tiny pieces.
Border collies are the Einsteins of the canine world.
I don't know what it is about tissues, I really don't, but you're right, they shred and shred and shred.

Andree - There is a Cocker Spaniel Society in NSW which handles Rescues - Google it. Also King Charles & English Springer Clubs that do same

Poodles don't shed but maintenance is a bit costly
We tend to have Spangle trimmed fairly regularly and really there isn't a big problem with shedding at all. Short-haired breeds sometimes seem to cast continually.

I learned here that poodles are the nr 1 on list of smartest dogs
They are supposed to be very smart. They seem to have fallen out of favour over here, not many poodles about.

the vet told us that when a breed is out of fashion for a while, it may be a good time to buy them. Far less overbreeding then. But I think choosing a good breeder works as well.
Breed most popular in Melbourne now is a Labradoodle...they are everywhere. Expensive though

My sister-in-law is fond of cross-stitch, but with sight in only one eye and limited time, it takes her ages to finish anything. Her millennium project is still ongoing, I think.

every publisher uses its own code system to indicate firsts. then there is the whole issue of "points" or variations between different units of a printing

however, the reason firsts became collectible is that books used to be printed from plates that wore out a little more with each copy printed, so the first was simply a better product. this is no longer true, so the whole craze for firsts of modenr books is silly, IMO

You cut logs to about 12-18" long and split them into quarters or thirds or whatever but the length is determined by what will fit in your fireplace/stove or whatever ..

okey dokey, thanks. I will keep on splitting then. I can't BELIEVE how many logs I am getting from these trees! filing under "bitten off more than I can chew" ....but I am keeping at it. An hour here, and hour there. Where on earth to stack them all becomes the next issue. I can put them out in the back forty for the time being, but then, when winter hits, I don't want to have to trek out there every time I need one. I guess I will just leave them way out back to cure, and fill the rack on the porch now and then, as needs be. Primo and I are considering maybe selling a cord or two, when we are done, if we could get a good price

Me too seain! I have 3 catapults designed for marshmallows and the grandkids have a ball pelting each other if the little ones don't eat all the ammunition
yeah - gym weights with the sizes marked on them would give an excellent opportunity to know the exact weight and adjust it easily for more or less distance
we practice launching them so people can catch them in their mouths.
jelly beans work well too, with eye protection
he made a potato cannon a year or two ago, and we had an absolute blast with it. a complete man magnet - if there a man within a five mile radius, they instantly appeared when he got it going
