those were really bothering me and never would have gotten them on my own
how's Merp, Eva?
very well thank you. Except that he's taken to lurking in the bathroom at night and biting my feet when I'm peeing. Makes it rather hard to get back to sleep. How are your animal companions?
tell me their names again?
kinky cat!
looool that's inventive!
Hobbit and Silverclaw :)
yes indeed. Foot fetishist
they are fine:) snoring away!
That's right! Silverclaw is such a stunner
she really is. I have a beauty queen cat somehow!
I almost wish I hadn't got her spayed, any kittens would be so beautiful. But she's so small. Her mum had a hard time with her litter, and Sily would be the same
are there any j words?
I know. I feel the same way about Merp. Merp kittens would have been wonderful, but I just can't bring more kittens into the world. The local gway garden store always has one or two cats from the animal shelter, disaplyed in the store. They have a great adoption rate. The one this week, a wonderful silver tabby, nearly broke my heart. He was talking to me, reaching his paws through the cage and trying to pull me into it. If I had the space and money I'd adopt every stray I came across but I don't.
no j words
thanks eva
me too! I'd happily be a mad cat lady. And dog lady.
But it really wouldn't have been fair on Silverclaw to make her have a litter. She's more important than any potential pretty kittens
and turtles, rabbits, raccoons, owls, anything abandoned or injured.
yep!
except maybe raccoons. They have claws
my wife is just as bad,ive managed to halt her at 3 cats
I MUST trim Sily's claws today
monkey,abracadabra and serius black
such good names
it's funny, there must be a correlation between word love and animal love
I don't think there a single babbler that doesn'tlove animals
abby is hers and serius is mine;
When I lived in the city I used to dream of opening a shelter and involving kids from the inner city who aren't able to have pets of their own, and who so desperately need to create relational bonds with someone. The idea was that they would get to "adopt" one of the foundlings, come after school and on weekends to take care of that animal, and to prepare it for a good home. Then, as they got more experienced, they would train new kids to be caretakers.
and monkey owns everyone
what a wonderful idea!
Hobbit is definitely mine. Sily's just about more mine than husband's. But only just
eva, they have a similar program up here for problem kis in the juvinile detention system, they take suitable shelter pets and train them as servive animals
kids even
service animals
Thats wonderful cross. I know they do the same thing in many prisons.
Along the same lines, the greyhound adoption agency I got Stew from also uses as their interim fosters a country prison
awwww
Merp uses the two of us for very different things. I am definitely "mommy"-the source of food, comfort, safety. My partner is alpha cat, the source of excitement, male rough play. Merp likes i tbest when he can have both of us at the same time.
years ago my wife had a pom that was a service dog for retirement homes, she used to go to the three local homes twice a week with er dog,she would shampoo queenie and put bows in her hair and visit the seniors
when Hobbit's calmed down a bit more - in a year or two - I want to do the same with her. Minus the ribbons.
hobbits a rabbit?
A friend of mine was going to do that with her st. poodle. Quite an extensive selection and then preparation required here
Yes, Hobbit doesn't look like the ribbon type.
no! LOL. But go round retirement homes as a petting dog
yep, I'd have to get her officially trained
Thinking of Merp as a service animal has me smiling. Of service to himself, for sure, like all cats.
just discovered that there is a new bookworm out;))
bookworm adventures 2;))
service cats. now there's an oxymoron
How old is Merp now Eva?
oxymoron? is that the word I want?
we are currently training serius black to a halter and a leash;))
He does, however, respond to emotional distress. If you are crying he will come and sit on your chest. Merp is somewhere between 15 and 16, but looks and acts much younger.
Sily has a halter and lead too :)
yes Ata
TY! I always get confused with words like that
hehe, wife seems to think he has the temperment and would love to get kitty out for walkies
Merp, who is not allowed to ever go out because of predators close by, has sometimes gone out on a leash and halter. He loves it. Being the human on the other end of the least is not so enjoyable though, unless you enjoy being dragged through undergrowth
lol eva
BBL need to prep for an apple pie
mmm!
ohhh..home made apple pie...
And off cliff edges, and spending hours sniffing invisible things, and of course staying out forever. Plus, it does lead to rising expectations, and seems to make it more frustrating for him to be house bound after, so I've stopped doing it.
with the dutch style topping;)))
that's why I don't take Sily out much - the rising expectations thing
He does have two porches he can go out on, but it doesn't satsify that need to roam free.
mmm ,never thought of that..one outing and he may become a pain about it
think I'll try to get a bit more sleep. See you all later.
I usually take Sily out in the rain so she dashes back inside and decides she hates the outside
back to try and finish this hard one

I like that word
not as much as I like the ia6 though
assuming there's only one ia6
gosh, aren't we all chatty today
there is one ia and an it
woohoo - another 8
yay!
nosocomial
won't commit to societies norms?
Yes - that's a real problem in hospitals here too
no, is an infection... had it in the crossword today
I had a friend once who who worked for Sate government health planning new hospitals...the things he told me. You wouldn't go into one!
it's when they start sending people home because it's safer for them to recuperate at home ...
the ia 6 reminded me of a word that literally means: physician producing in the context of treatment-related complications
Good idea really! After one hospital stay I had a nurse come each day to change dressings etc. It was great, much better than being in hospital. Had chemo done at home too - again much better
yep, that's the nice ia6:)
awww hobbit's flopping on my feet. she so wants a walk but can't have one yet
do you have to take her back to the vets or are you just being cautious?
nope, no return visit now. she's obviously still a bit stiff and limpy though, so she's not getting proper walks till the weekend
maybe I'll take her for another wander round the garden
brb
W's wh5.22

Hello
back for more;( insomnia sucks...27 hours and counting:/
awww crossy
Hello, Crossy thats a long time no sleep, i feel sorry for you.
get the joy of looking at more nursing homes for da today as well;((
if ,when it my time,if im of sound enough mind i think ill just get in the fishing boat, start it up,point it at the sunset and have a nap lol
Hi kids. Checking in quickly before I get ready for work.
morning scrabby!
Hello, Scrabbler
yes i was just thinking, what i would do, if i could not look after myself, but i`m sure nursing homes are great places to be looked after.
Hello scrabs.
indeed zooz, there is only so much you can do for them in your own home, then it becomes impossible
Crossy, I went to see Billy yesterday in the ICU. He is quite ill, getting dialysis every other day now, needing increasing ventilatory support. There is still hope and I told him to fight!
tell him,he better smarten up or ill come down there and tell him all my dirty limerics;)
fate much worse than dialysis every other day!
My aunt, my mother's sister, 89, died at home Monday--found dead by my cousin. Autopsy showed a heart attack. She never wanted to end up in a nursing home or hospital before she died. Although we are sad she is gone (funeral tomorrow) we are glad it ended this way for her.
sending prayers as always scrabbs
sorry to hear that scrabs.
We will miss Aunt Jo--funny, lively, great Italian cook--learned from my Grandma from Italy.
i want to go at 85..nice big brain embolism maybe while chasing a 25 year old..a blinding flash and boom yer gone before you hit the ground;)..seriously though i send you and your family my prayers
Yep, quick, painless (as possible), peaceful crossing over--no nursing home or extraordinary medical care.
LOL, like we have much choice in the matter
in the home we visited yesterday there was one reident, she is 114 tommorow!!!
OK, I MUST get ready for work--busy day, then must rush to depart this evening--get bunnies ready, pack, etc
going for the record i suppose
So, born in 1894! That would be my grandparents!
Bye. Enjoy the day!
wild eh?
Or 1895--
go in at 80 or so and spend the next 30 odd years in some home;/
bye, scrabs
That is an age crossy 114, wow.
tc scrabbs
if im not mistaken, the current record is 118,so she has to go 4 more years
nope..122
where is the 122 china?
http://www.wowzone.com/calment.htm
*looking*
france
the post below about that one in china is bunk
amazing, i did see something like this but the woman was in china, so not as old then, still riding a bike at 100.
lol, involved in that folding@home site where you shareyour idle computer time to help unlock protien molecules to assist in finding cure for certain diseases good cause but..there is 32 gig of information genereated daily, this is divided into work units, there are about 144,000 work units per 32 gig..ive had it running 3 days and finished 2 work units! lol
I did something similar for climate change globe, you had the earth rotating and it was calculating what the earth temp would be like in like 100 years time, but after two months of leaving my computer to crunch the numbers 24hrs a day, they admitted that on some computers the model might get a crash message, alas mine did, not done anything like that since..lol
though there are currently 5765 computers going at it at the moment
try the folding at home zooz,it is very stable and for a good cause you can use our tem number if interested
it is amazing how much number crunching can be done with soo many computers, and yet it still takes a long time.

Pffth. Just another day in Babble Land, Hego. Get used to it.
Clue please for di 9/66
Don't have that one yet, gran.
That's a hard one to clue gran. It's alternate spellings of the drugs that make you pee.
hi harp and judi
i walk away from my computer for one minute!
That's the di 8 and 9
Sorry, nurse talk.
ty you for the birthday wishes harp but I have moved on to fish since her birthday was yesterday
Nice fish
gran the 8 is an alternate spelling of the pee drugs and the 9 you add the first vowel in the middle of the vowells
ty hego
hello...how do you make that di8 into a di9?
another nurse eh? lots of medical people in babbleland
add the first vowell after the first two letters phae
We're all half mad to begin with.

The President snuck into Delaware this a.m.

jilli gets after pretty much everyone from time to time!
she IS quite the icon Nazi LOL!!
but she has a point so I try to keep up mostly
I have never changed my icon, LOL.
she really researches the themes
stay strong, mom! LOL
well Mom2, can understand, you probably enjoy looking at that handsome young man?
okay does the po6 use the po 4/5 place with ships?
yep
working on the po6 and 8 just now
i really want to solve the po8 before i leave for work
ship place + not you + Fr*** Jacques
ty une I was sooo using the wrong vowels
:-D
my french spelling is even worse than my english spelling!

hey seain - how is everything going?
I have a wedding certificate in front of me, 1869 - great great something grandmother, coming from Ballynahone.
Her father was a farmer.
nifty, haz
things are well, wolvie, and you?
wow haz - I have no old docs like that from my family
I had never heard of the place before, and then this turns up.
you really do come from the bogs :D
good here seain, ty. :-)
Yes, I've got documentary proof.
Well, I did have to send for a copy from the district registrar.
lol - bogs just keep on going
Haz, is that the same as modern Ballymahon, Longford?
No, Ballynahone, Co Londonderry, near Maghera.
The bogs are in the grid today. Someone's paying attention.
bogs for ever :)
hi hego
Hi Wolvie
surely you don't want that ata. ;-0
ah, found it. thanks, haz
(i like maps)
what should i have with my rice and salsa, some beans?
definitely beans.
sounds good seain
pintos then. :)
No potatoes? It's hardly a meal without potatoes.
the beans make a complete protein with the rice
i grew up in a rice/pasta household. I rarely eat potatoes at home.
he's not Irish. doesn't count
haz you must be irish to say that!
does anyone have a clue for the re7 after the person who has given up work for good plz?
hi jmc
hi sandie
here in US, most houses eat rice/pasta or potato/pasta primarily.
hi wolvie
I live in Northern Ireland, jmc, where we take our potatoes seriously.
Dad's from a potato family. Mom's is a rice family.
;-0 haz
and yet they learned to live together!
re7/32 - put your foot down again, kind of.
i'm eating some as we speak
i understand that haz
we eat rice, pasta, potato, and beans - so there! lol
yep. mom even deigned to make fried green tomatoes for us some of the time, though she hates them.
hey harp
my brother in law married into a first generation from ireland family
Nope not getting it.
probably not Irish tho, I live 12 miles from Idaho!
Sandie it's to recoat your ti*** on you car.
like putting new life into wheels haz?
hi wolv
re7 - something to do with tyres?
he said that when his MIL cooked it wasn't a question of rice or potatoes but how would the potatoes be cooked
yes
Ah got it- thanks
I luv fried green tomatoes - grew up eating them
That's the beauty of potatoes, they're adaptable.
i love fried green tomatoes dc
so is rice :-P
fried green tomatos with red pepper coulis :D
I loved the film!
i'll pass on the coulis
I still can't get that darn ia word.
ia plus a magician does magic ****ks.

hi, Ata, how is Hobbit?
stiff and bruised, but desperately wanting a walk!
what does the 9 start with please?
hi rbud
di 9/66
it is my basic youthfulness that led me to ped+ia6
hi BR
ty BR - and hello
Phone.
well, sounds like she's doing fine, good to hear.
Hello, Wolvie
why is hobbit stiff and bruised -- you been beating her?
really well. I'm still just amazed
Hello to all
she fell down a 5m ladder and went splat
that was really something that hobbit wasn't hurt by that fall - amazing
she's been dragging hobbit thru bogs
poor hobbit!
Hello, BabbleRabble.
splat is never good for animals or people
Hello, Haz
i know i dont need to tell you to keep an eye on her for a few days anyway
ja
hi Gail
ja to you too, Gail
couldn't help but wonder - why was she at the top of the ladder? did you have her changing light bulbs? ;)
Ohdarn. Lost control of my fingers again.
hi gail
good question rbud -- i was afraid to ask
no comment - not touching that one
(gail's post - not hobbit, lol)
I am happy today. Got my foot out of a cast after 2 months and into a boot.
whoo hoo gail!
good news gail
Good for you, Gail
it was a ladder down onto the beach!
(i wondered wolvie)
Well done, Gail! Was it itchy?
No, not really.
ahhh! now I understand.
you have ladders to the beach? *trying to imagine a ladder into the sky from the beach*
oh, wonderful, gail
wait a sec, I'll put a pic in my icon
sometimes beaches are up a hill or embankment
i love the smell of jasmine rice cooking. so rich and nutty.
Hobbit emulated Sir Edmund Hillary, "Because it was there."
does ladder mean something in brit than it means in american?
lol BR
there. it's actually steeper than that, the profile squished it a lot
omg it's a ladder to the beach!
told you!
oh, gosh, that's quite the ladder!
that's as rocky as in Maine
lol i am sorry ata i have never seen such a thing!
poor hobbit!
i was just thinking of a bit of coast line near salem mass
its actually about 80 degrees slope
wowsa
its not very common :)
isn't there any other way to the beach?
We Brits are hardy. No point in going to the beach if you can't get down a ladder.
not that bit of beach no
No point in things being easy.
hardy is an understatement -- no little kids allowed on that bit a beach!
Sure, you only end up having the breath knocked out of you by the wind.
you can see why I'm still amazed she walked away with no ills
and I had to carry her back up that ladder!
sure can
how did the poor thing get back up the ladder
Such a pity there wasn't a camera crew around.
i showed it to my son and he said "that's an awesome beach!"
it is!
that cliff, by the way, is part of the White Cliffs of Dover
I carried the little monster!
help with the u pls
really? how neat!
nm found one
neat ata
some how i thought you were farther north than that
up that ladder? whoa - bet you are sore too
Wonders if Hobbit will view ladders as a stressor, like those who are plagued by PTSD?
we'll have to see ....
ta 7 pls
more late, gook

Makes me smile when a lot of babblers arrive at once - have this mental image of a big bus arriving and everyone pouring out.
We have SO much snow!! I have at least 18 inches...these are the days I'm so grateful that I work from home!
Are you now ensconced in you new abode, FM?
last i heard it was 18" and counting - possibly to 4 feet. how much did it end up being?
hi all!
hi nrkii
Hello, nrkii
I'm in the heart of Denver and we have 18 inches or so...another foot or more in the foothills. Glad to be inside and warm - and even more glad that the high school boy down the street will be here at noon to shovel.
... hopping off the bus to say HI to the Babble gang!
Br Thanks for asking - moving day is confirmed and written in stone for Monday 2nd Nov - then I shall be in a hotel for a week or so, one journey is about to end and the other will start soon *grin*

unfortunately for this guy my son is not 18 -- he only looks it
had that guy already been on to the insurance co?
Hi everyone! Quick note to all: I just sent a "select all" invite on Facebook, and there are several Babble suggestions. The Facebook site is really just for my book, so feel free to ignore it if you like ... or not :).

mmm am having moroccan giant couscous with butternut squash and fresh coriander for supper
now I need to learn how to recreate it so I don'thave to buy a pot of it!
that's a lovely thing that dish, ata, and not hard to make
I thought you'd appreciate it!
I need to find some harissa, and work out where to get giant couscous from. It's gorgeous! Never had giant couscous before
any halal market should have harissa, and most will also have the large couscous
*yawn* afternoon babblers...
hi, EvaNadine :)
yes .... this is England though :P I know I can find harissa easily enough, or just make it. We dont have wonderful things like halal markets here!
hi eva!
how goes it?
there must be halal markets at least in London
i'm eating ice cream. i'm well. you?
i was tired, but now im jealous + tired! hehe
making couscous is about as easy as making spaetzle, all you need is semolina
maybe can send husband to look. London's far enough away to make it a day trip
oooo. never thought of that
ooo. apparently the really big Tesco's sell it now. They sometimes have a kosher section
so a plot toe get rid of your husband for a day is thwarted
hi eva
http://www.zabihah.com/ls.php?id=338 are halal places in Kent, mostly around Chatham
Chatham. Oh - joy. LOL. Maybe I need a trip to Chatham.
Chatham is probably the dodgiest place in the whole of Kent :P
but the next door town has great bookshops!
some in gillingham and rochester, too. that site likely has more info
mmm that veggy pot thing was the yummiest thing I've tasted for weeks. I'm looking. Yay!
or you can ask where you bought it about sourcing products. They may even sell you some
wow. 6 halal markets in the whole of Kent. all in 1 place. it's not the easiest cuisine to get hold of round here!
I know what I'm doing tomorrow :)
hope it goes well for you :)
Just followed your directions, dc, and came across a lovely town name in Kent -- Weavering Bearsted.
Yes, English villages have the best names :)
Also found several halal places in Victoria. Never been to any.
Hi all!
we've got a few Bearsteds
ah, like the Amboys and the Oranges in New Jersey
It's the Weavering that got to me :)
clue for pe 7
Hello babblers, how goes the battle?
hi
Hello swmbo :)
England has great place names
hi swmbo!
enjoying unusual place names? I love them too
I have to go out soon for an afternoon of bridge -- 57 left, hope to have time this evening.
I like Nebnett Thrubwell
have fun, jilli
and Puddletown
he,wmbo and boo
Oh yes, that's a good one :)
somewhere called Lost in Scotland
there is a place near here called Waternish
and I love Mousehole in Cornwall
There used to be a Snickersville near here.
Well, Newfoundland has some doozies, but I like the Brit ones because they use such odd words -- or unwords -- like Thrubwell
and Wetwang! LOL! I forgot about that one
there are 3 towns in Pennsylvania all in Lancaster County named Blue Ball, Intercourse, and Paradise
texas has cut-n-shoot as a town name
wetwang should be in PA then I think!
Mahwah, Hopatcong, Weehawken, Hookus are all in New Jersey.
cut-n-shoot or we'll send you to truth or consequences. LOL
clue for pe 7 pls
heh, i just read that theres a place somewhere in England named Titty Hill
more pe4, boo
Buttzville, Pennsylvania Twatt, Scotland Muff, Ireland Titty Hill, England Wetwang, England Bald Knob, Arkansas, Whiskey Dick Mountain, Washington Hell, Michigan Toad Suck, Arkansas Dissapointment, Kentucky F*cking, Austria
As Jilli said, NFLD has the wildest. Come-by-Chance Little Looping Harbour
LMAO
admittedly, there is a town here in MD named Boring, MD
we really do have a road near here called Slagshole Lane
slags-hole or slag-shole?
take your pick :) but 2 roads along is Bogshole Lane
NFLD also has a community called Dildo...
Butt's Corner is in Stafford County, Virginia
isn't the world wonderful
someone noisily dragging something up the stairs made Feldspar wake up and growl
awwww
well, it kept getting louder, and actually shook the floor briefly
oh no!! outrageous!
it was heavy, whatever it was, on some sort of dolly
Middlefart, Denmark *teehee*

having fun, aren't you Eva :)

*giggle* a useful conversation today
it is all very edumacashunal
i got it from another friend's FB page :)
i actually saw them setting up christmas decorations in Bethesda yesterday
so you to can have the 3 wise zombies :D
re, you too
i kept thinking -- how likely is it that these will survive saturday night?
where in bethesda were you?

a place where college and HS drunks gather on Saturday night
is there a pw word?

sigh
any clues for the he8/50?
heh, yeah. the kids do like to hang out around there on the weekends. crazy they already have the christmas stuff up there. *rolls eyes*

hi tllc
hi there!
hi TLLC!
I tend to lurk and read clues - sorry!!!!!
hello all
hey there swmbo, how are you, long time no see!
We all do that
Hi Pe**
no reason not to but you miss some of the fun times tllc!
hi pe**
the wh8 was a new word for me
I do read all the thread though!
Pat Robertson just announced that you shouldn't buy candy at this time of year because witches pray over it and put demons in your body if you eat it
Well - that explains a lot about Mr. Robertson
who is Pat Robertson?
at least he is safe from demons (at least those demons)
hi cad
aha, I am in the grid again :-)
Hello :)
And what do the leprachauns do in March to the candy?
Pat Robertson is what is known as a "television evangelist" and is notorious for forbidding interracial dating at his college
hi Cadfan & Mich
Please - don't you know Leprechauns are merely demons in disguise??
what those cute little green things are evil?!?!?
ohhhh
hi mich
Yes - and so are extramarital affairs.. for everyone BUT Pat Robertson.
and stating that 9/11 was caused by the gays
Ahh, lovely. Hi everyone!! I got all dressed in orange & black the other day and we don't even HAVE halloween here.
was it a political statement mich?
really, the things that are allowed on american tv!
Are there people that actually pay attention to that guy? No political statement, just first day cool enough to wear my orange sweater!
i would be surprised if you did mich since it is the eve of all saints day that the spirits run around since they can't go out the next day
My sentiments exactly Lynxxx Pat Robertson is indeed a thing
Pat Robertson is wack
I believe I have also heard him referred to as a "tool"
I never knew that. (About the spirits not being allowed out the next day)
but amusing to listen to
that is why they have to party hardy on halloween
What is a tool in this context? (Of course I am old enough to remember gay meaing happy and Bad meaning BAD)
hmm a tool is a polite term for a**h***
Got it, sounds like it fits.
"A tool is usually someone who is unwelcome but no one has the balls to tell them to get lost. A tool is alwasys making comments that are out-of-place, out-of-line or just plain stupid."
perfect def Cadfan
the def i found says someone who is so stupid hedoesn't know he is being used
i like cadfan's better
bbl I am going home
If heared it used in that context jmcnrick
bye for now jmc
That should read: I have heard it used in that context"
The opinions stated by me are not intended to offend anyone - they are simply that.. mine.
hello everyone
inions and i like them, we should meet some time
Hello, jacq
wow, sorry, Cadfan, i like your opinions, we should meet
Hello!
hi Jacq
hello BR
heya lynxx
heya cadfan
:) Long commute between us :) It would be fun though!!
silly me - got he6.21 and wh7.48 but missed th7.32
You know there are two th 7/32's right?
actually got 3 th7.32 so far - ?
sorry - actually three
Plan to get to Scotland one day - much family history there.
i wonder what they're doing. very noisy all day. Compressors and big machines and what.
Okay, have to mention this, in regards the Robertson comment about Halloween candy earlier.... check out the Huffington Post, which shows photos of specific candy to avoid... like, "Mike & Ike's - the original fruits" - LOL!! www.huffingtonpost.com
ROTFLOL ch1212
And the one about the Three Musketeer's bar! LOL! (For those who did not notice, click on the 'next' button after the Mike & IKe's...)
that was hilariious, ch12
How odd - i can't see the article at all
Try this link, lynxxx: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2009/10/ 29/christian-broadcasting-ne_n_338738. html
Must admit, I try to be very respectful of others' opinions, especially faith-based... but I have a difficult time taking Robertson seriously. Hope no one is offended :)
i concur, ch12
he scared me as a child
That's sad, dc. No child should be scared when learning about God -- any image of God.
eh, the Sunday School at Good Shepherd United Methodist taught me to reject Xian teachings at the age of nine. No one ever answered any of my questions, nor could they give an evidence to support several of their claims.
i did not have strong natural leanings that way anyway, despite my mother's best efforts
Everyone in the office is now checking out that page...
GOt an appointment - might BBL
well done, cadfan
My beloved just came home for lunch -- bbl, all :)
enjoy, ch12 :)
BBL I need a break
njoy, lyn

to trinitarian Xians, the majority, the two are inseparable .
tell him hi if you see him
seti@home is cool, but can really eat CPU
lol if he ha the quarters for the phone call:)
lol im also running a real usefull one called folding@home
folding@home eats even more CPE in my experience. Scary amts of CPU
make this rig work for its cookies
i have a 4 gig chip so im winding her out;)
i am almost afraid to ask == what does folding@home do
i mean its not like babble is taxing its resources;)
or are you guys just pulling my leg?
math calculations, jmc
folding @home is a great thing.it involve studying protien folding in the human body to help uncover clues for cancer etc
good point, crossy. Folding and SETI were running on an old deskope.
google folding at home
seti is just a lark, but folding at home is good honest research
er, desktop
Wow I definitely need a new computer if they are now folding clothes
Hey all
we have 5500 comouters running it at this moment
lol mamawa,folding protien molecules
hi, mamawa
OHHHH lol : )

trying to cure cancer before my next one pops up:)
I didnt think we were that advanced yet!

You and my daughter...she wants to invent a new strep test
lol we save the world mamawa, one grain of sand at a time
Had a huge convesation with her pediatrician about the swabbing when was about 7
what would happen if i joined/
Absolutely
you share unused bandwidth to unfold protien molecules
hmm sounds like i should do that with my office computer since i have a t1 line and it isn't being used at night
your code is 11108]
sounds like a plan, jmc
our* code is 11108
Back to the grid whilst waiting on the ghosties and goblins to show up , just wanted to say hi. (trying to be a more social lurker) : )

yaa for merk!
nice to see you, mamawa
whoo hoo merk
i would never bring up anything in chog that would be a security isse anyways
i assume nothing crossy ;-) but would be surprised and disappointed if you had
to give you a idea how large the workload is,each day they set up 32 gig of information,in each 32 gig is aprox 144,000 work units, ive been rinning it for 3 days and have finished 3 work units;/
so we need all the vounteers we can get
i sen the code to myself so when i get into the office tomorrow i can set it up
ut only newer computers can do this
*sent

anyone,with a resonably new rig
hi TO
sorry, had wandered off to eat and smoke, just came back and read the chog a little
hi jac
yes, jacq
howdy, TO
how are you today, TO?
4 gig ram and 500 gig hd, dual core and loads of bells and whistles
but you need a team code, but you can use ours jacq 11108
good enough for this jacq;))
so what do i do? and do i have to stay online all the time?
ty, see you tomorrow afternoon
firwords
just run the program when you doing small stuff like babble or when its idle and not doing anything else
where do i find the program?
bye all
be well, TO :)
http://folding.stanford.edu/English/Do wnload
and you can find out what its all about there as well
bye TO
and if yours is the rig that unlocks the "key" they may even name it after you lol
the key to curing cancer?
the jmcnrick protein!
no just the molecule or the specific protien
they can name it after one of the 20 family, friends and colleagues i have lost to cancer
lol
my entire family tree has had or died of cancer jacq, your not alone
good thought i could name it after my husband
thats why im pimping folding@home
it's horrible and doesn't ccare how good or nice or young you are
if it's ok with you crossy i would like to email this link to my friends and family and explain what it is about to them
good for you crossy
they may want to start a team
nope,i am a 3 time survivor..kick tha cancers ass! yaa baby!
go right ahead jacq, the more the merrier and all can use our acess code of 11108
ty crossy *kiss on the cheek*
we should make a babble team
ever 5000 computers doubbles the work output we can do
good idea ata
great idea ata
i think i might approach a reporter about this scheme crossy
the local rag is always looking for new stories to cover and with the history of cancers in this area it will get instant coverage
yes ,you can register a babble team,im not sure what the exact procedure is,this code im giving you has been given free usafe by the good people at maxumum pc magazine
yes by all means jacq, more exposure the better
let me go and try and work it out!
hi all - back to add a few words before dinner - i hope
you can create a team from the stats page ata
go to that link first and read up on it all,its very interesting
that was easy!
I made a Babblers team. The number is 173981
team? for cancer? can anyone join?

Just about everyone in my family has died from it in one shape or form

melanoma, lung, uterine, stomach, liver, and esophaghus for us(forgive my spelling)
if you forgive mine;))
oh - and pancreas too
sure - no prob crossy
and my father had protate and melenoma
melanoma, one so rare i can't remember it's name (never seen in 20 years the doc said) leukemia, ovarian, cervical (4 different friends), lung
mom had uterine and pelvic area
my dad was the lung - spread everywhere before he died. terrible
granda had lung and melenoma
grammy had brest cancer it used to kill regularly in that time
it is just a horrible disease that we seem to be gaining ground on, and must defeat
it is a terrible thing, and if governments spent as much on research as they do on frivoloties then we would have a cure by now
brain tumours, lung, testicular, breast cancer x 3, and someone whose entire body was cancer pretty much
see? it's horrible for everyone
it is awful for everyone
i am only here now cause of advances in cancer research,if i had had my 3 cancers in 1970 my doc said i would of been a dead man walking
so,fold them protiens babblers!
It is a good thing crossy. You can fight the good fight
you got it
been leading the charge for years:)

my sons friends dad just passed though, they didnt excise a leison propery 10 years ago and it went active last year and by the time he had it looked into its was too late
I had a colonoscopy in June and things were fine, hubby is in the process of drinking the prep stuff right now and his an endoscopy tomorrow
yes mamawa, its good to get the info out there
ugh, wife had one of those last year
he wanted both ends checked...l
my 20 yr old daughter just went through all the testing, colonoscopy, etc with no definitive results
he has 2 more doses to drink
peglyte:((((
For those of you that are survivors, I applaud you. I lost my favorite sister to colon cancer in 1997
I have to go to door now but will be on and up and down...so if I just randomly pop in you know why : )
ty snags,we survive and pass the word and fight for the cause;))
did u walk for cancer in June as we did
we had a 10k cancer walk here
the high school track was lit with luminaries that we purchased for 10 US dollars each
the lights were turned out, and I have to say, the whole thing made me cry...........
i am heavy and 45,but i did the walk and finished, hour behind the leader but i did it;)
GOOD FOR YOUA!!
we walked the track with one eye on the weather. A nasty thunderstorm blew in, but we managed to get to our car.
before we move on,i do volunteer work with people going through cancer for the first time.if anyone has questions on resources and day to day living with cancer, plese see my addy in my profile and ill be glad to help as i can

I have seen. It looks a tad complicated
it is easy as pie,ata and i set it up in under a minute
just load the client, use the group number when you join and thats it
Ok what does it do exactly
but only run it when you not doing anything heavy with your computer as it does work it a bit
Can anyone help me with the 9?
it folds/unfolds human protiens in the hopes of finding cures for many diseases, including cancer
Ok
if you go to the site you can read up on it herin
O My pc is a little bit hungry with stuff
ANd I have no idea why now I have to click enter and then if i go to another page this one doesn't load. It never did that
mm strange, just google folding at home client and read up on it.trust me i only bring up safe sites in the chog
hi jai - the 9 looks like a medication to increase urine production, with an extra vowel
sorry, a different vowel, i meant
HI JBV and Jai
hi herin and crossy
anyways, ive been on my soapbox holding forth long enough, ill hand the floor over now;)
howdy jbv
sorry JBV, I still am not getting it, but I thank you for helping!!!!
Well I don't mind Crossei
ok, i'll jump in - just got back from a very inspiring seminar with Alan November - does anyone know him? he is on a quest to drag the education establishment into the 21st century with technology -
JBV we have computer labs at tafe that is meant ot be new and shiney and all that and they rarely work
I am certainly not in the forefront of anything, but I am more than a little dismayed at how reluctant many of my colleagues are to even consider what's out there
Can anyone helpme with the 9?
i'll try again, jai - start with anne frank's ***ry, then add someone who goes against religious doctrine, a h*******
I don't have it sorry
Thanks, JBV!!!! I got it!!!
this guy was smart, funny, but essentially revolutionary if you think that it's revolutionary to have schools in 2009 not look like they did in 1950 or 1850 for that matter
It was that first vowel...
I think that the teachers should be paid too.
not getting it so first letter please
paid for what, herin?
joanne, those clues were for the di 9
ty
Teach
um, I think most teachers are paid to teach, herin, not sure what you mean
Ok let me rephrase that. I feel its disgraceful that the teachers are paid stuff all
ok, wait, that looks exactly opposite what you said before - what is your vision, herin
I feel that Teachers and more so helpers in schools should be paid to care and teach. You think about it. You have someone that is a teacher a carer a listener and they are not paid enough. Nor do some parents have the guts to say yes my kid is a turd and yes they deserve teh detention
clue for pr 8 pls
i'm processing that herin ........
I am very fortunate to go to a Uni that has computers and teachers taht care and send you to counsellors if you need help.
teachers should care and listen and are not paid enough - I agree
how many words today please

I had some wonderful teachers in school and some idiot parents that thought the sun shone out of their kids butt even if the kids got the whole class a detention it was never their kids fault

herin do you remember who is our babbler from Perth?
yep,we know those parents, too
Um Yes Anike? or something similar
Um there is Lore too
Lore is not her name but that is what i remember her as
Why/
ok thanks
not getting the pr 8 at all
Eh why?
well from the workshop we got ideas about putting classes together for projects and I work in Perth Amboy so I thought it would be interesting to see if we could hook up with a teacher in Perth Australia
you know, what we used to call "pen pals" but now they do everything online, Skype, etc.
pr* + ***** (what the I.R.S.) does to investigate your taxes
Oh cool. I don't know if Anika is a teacher. Lore is in health care
he showed us a project where a teacher in England and one in Massachusetts had their kids set up a virtual courtroom and took roles of prosecutor and defendant in the Battle of Lexington (known here as the Lexington Massacre, and of course by a different name entirely in UK)
Oh wow that is cool
it was about learning about historical perspective and how each of their textbooks were so different in the way they presented it
I do love how technowledgy works
sorry I need to spell
I think anyone with an ounce of creativity and imagination would be so eager to try out these ideas in the classroom, but it really is not part of the current thinking and teachers would have to be first, convinced, and then trained - the kids already know how to do these things
nice new word, herin
sorry about my really poor spelling
i like it - techknowledgy
i might borrow it
O please dont that is a lot embarising
Ok that is it I give up with my typing
that one I won't borrow :)
rolls eyes sorry about those typos
Hope you are all well
right i am off good night good day and all that

crossy said there was no danger
there is a very famous pizzeria here, but they don't deliver (they don't have to!). their specialty is a white pizza with clams and garlic, and we have wanted to try it but the times we have called they have been all out of the clams. so i was telling my husband i wanted to try it tonight, and he said he didn't want to go out to pick it up.
lol kje
Hi Welki. Strange things are happening.
hi welki!
mmmm- sounds wonderful hursh
how so, hego?
Just read down.
so i told him, this is where you call them and when they say they have no clams you seem like the nice guy who was willing to go. he said that seemed disingenuous, and risky, because he really wouldn't go get it.
and i said, ok, so if they DO have the clams, just lie to me and say they didn't. or tell me you called and they were out of clams without even calling.
but no, he is unwilling to create for me a fiction in which he is a nice guy if it means violating his precious honesty.

hi bugs
he8 same first 6 letters, add frozen water ending
hi bugs
ugh! thanks, I was trying to be so creative with my monkees
hey bugs! guess what I did today?
Hi jmc. The di 8 is a medicine isn't it?
it looks like it to me bugs
What happened today stid?
no
medicine is diuretic
the di is a drug to make the body lose water
dieretic is to separate things
OOps, you are right, i was wrong
kje to the pb now...
Thanks for the clarification kje, but your clues should help Jilli if she is still stuck!!
the separation of two adjacent vowels, dividing one syllable into two. 2. a sign (¨) placed over the second of two adjacent vowels to indicate separate pronunciation, as in one spelling of the older forms naïve and coöperate: no longer widely used in English. 3. Prosody. the division made in a line or verse by coincidence of the end of a foot and the end of a word.
weeellll we all can't be medical people kje
hey are you allowed to say that kje
LOL go kje go!!!!!

hi feather!
LOL I warned Tom that the next date had better be at least decennial...
i know *sigh*
add another vowel after the i in di8 for the 9 jilli
hiya gang! killing time before i go to bed.
hi feather
today I was in a 9th grade class again! but in a "junior high" and this was an English classroom. VERY different feeling than the 9th grade high school French class.
*putting on flack jacket*
ty lbd :)
junior high. ugh.
I am trying to decide if it's the contrast between urban-rural, or the shift from small fish-to big fish...
I rather enjoyed it feather. EXCEPT... this teacher was comfortable with more physicality between students than I might be (though she knew the students and I don't)
probably a bit of both, stid
How so stid. I am not following your line of thot
I was thinking the same LBD -- and different cultures represented as well.
hello everyone
hi kalea
hello kalea!
Well in some ways these 9th graders, being not yet in high school hadn't fully adopted the attitude of those older teens (perhaps because they do not need to establish their place in the pecking order?)
I am always shocked by how low the standards have become. I work in Middle Schools and how the kids behave depends on the teacher
9th grade jr high, top dog...9th grade high school bottom of the food chain
And in some ways they seemed so much more mature, perhaps because they were older, and therefore role models for the younger students.
Exactly lb. That is why I promote Middle Schools.
po8?
9th grade wasn't bad for me, it was freshman year of high school. but the thought of middle school.....shudder. i hated going through it, and don't think i could ever teach it. of course, my target age group is very far removed from it too!
I viewed it as this teacher just having a higher tolerance for movement and such than teachers I have worked with in the past.
i need it too
What age group woulld you like to teach stid.
harbor + me + poetic before
I didn't like middle or high school as a child, but as a parent, seeing what the children are going through I realize that I have the interest and maturity to help smooth what can be very rough years.
a french word uses the po6 before it
i might get a different view as you have stid when daniel and nick get to that age.
thanks kalea
yes, that is how I came to it feather...
ty kalea
wait wait.... KALEA!!!! *breaks out the fancy drinks with little paper umbrellas*
i already have a different view of my kindergartners as daniel's grown up.
hi kalea
lol
i liked jr. high. i don't like middle school...just the way most are set up. the kids are still wanting to be taught and are so impressionable.
brb
my knidergarden teacher was a rhymes with witch
aww, jmc, that's too bad
So much depends on the administrators, and on the overall school and community cultures, I think.
oooh jmc! that is sad. I liked both of my kindergarden teachers.
My granddaughter is teaching middle school, quite happily, but it's a special school with an emphasis on the arts
everyone thought she was loved by all but most of the kids we4 afraid of her
my kids were great in middle school, but i found chaperoning was tougher than in high school
shoot, can't see that po8
but she promoted an image of being loved that the parents (other than my mother) bought into
I have steadfastly refused to chaperone... though I love being in the classrooms and can now handle being around them in less structured situations. LOL
my mother didn't like her when she found out she had allowed an adulterous liaison at her house
I was tortured in middle school so I like being able to be there for kids who struggle and are not popular, even tho they are wonderful people. I want school to be a better place for them than it was for me. Maturity really helps because they usually like grandmothers.
wow, how does one do that, yet scare the kids? trying to imagine what she was like.
i chaperoned all dances, field trips, and parties
good for you bugs!
junior high was hell
d-i-l is teaching high school and one of her classes has almost 50 kids in it, thanks to gov't cuts to education (so stupid).
oh she would dress up and the kids we4 afraid not to pretend to like it
yes, I will be as old as many of their grandmothers by the time I have taught for a few years (now I am slightly older than most of the middle school parents)
yikes, jilli......how does one teach well in that situation?
i had a whopping 10 kids yesterday! 6 were out sick. (this is one of my smallest classes in 13 years.)
big ty for the po 8 clue, my last 8!
I can't imagine teaching 50 in a single class jill -- not okay.
whoo hoo rbud
ty - got it
go rbud go!
I never went to junior high -- came from England to NY and went straight into "5th term" HS at age 13. That was 3rd year High.
oh feather, that is not good. hope things (and children) get better soon!
only had 3 out today. hoping this is the upswing, and not the lull in the storm.
lucky jill
What's the matter with middle school and junior high?
gosh jilli.......that must have been hard socially
Middle school is the same as Juniour High here. Usually grades 7 - 9. It is good because some grade 7s are already 6' tall and feel totally left out in elementary school but by grade 9 almost all the kids have had their growth spurt so they all look the same and feel safer in high school.
Not at all, kalea! I'm still pals with some of our gang.
okay, I need to be ready to take stidkid to school -- concert night tonight.
have fun, stid
busy stid! au revoir!
have funstiddie
I am proud of you stid. Keep going with your studies. You can raise the standards academically and be compassionate too!
I just hope I get to listen to this performance, other stidkid needs to be picked up from college around 7:45
busy busy stid!
thanks bugs. I am scared that I don't really know enough to do this for other people's kids on my own. But I am hopeful that by summer 2011, after three separate student teaching assignments I will be ready.
stid, you're a born teacher!

Lynchburg is pretty and a nice temp right now
the weather has been very nice so far --- just enough cold for color
I was surprised that the color was as far along as it is. I expected it to be a couple of weeks behind us
its the hills -- they are cooler
i'm way too tired to be starting the grid...
