Very well thank you ... my tickets are here for my holiday ... so even better lol
Morning Katie and Norma
morning FM
Oh where are you going Norma?
fantastic did you manage to get in to pick them up?
Morning FM
Not yet ... going in on Tuesday
i'm still waiting to see if the snow turns up today
I am going to the Dominican Republic FM ... can't wait to get some sun
What are you going to do Katie .... work from home??
shhhhh Katie! How lovely Norma.
if it snows tonight definately, if not then probably will still do it
You stay safe at home... its not worth it if you can work from home
Glad to say we didn[t get any of the white stuff overnight and it has been raining this morning on and off.
that's the view I came to after my drive in on Friday
Is it washing the snow away FM ??
not yet there is still too much of it lying around but there is a definate thaw going on atm.
now that sounds positive FM
Where are you FM is it likely to get to the Midlands??
am in West Sussex
haven't seen a furecast for today yet tho.
Lets hope it get up country .... they are threatening us with a lot more snow today
or a forecast even
there has been a warning out for kent
Morning mills
just looking at the metoffice website and they are not forecasting any snow for my area in the next few days.
Hi mills
Morning mills
morning norma and all
so Ata and Hobbit will be galumping around in snow again today then
50 left going for some breakfast .... see you all later
Bye Norma
later norma
Hi all
Hi sally
Quiet on the chog
1/2 way, 5:41am and I am hungry w/no food. Off to Walmart for food. bbl
Bounces back into the chog after breakfast.
Bye sue - and hi FM
Hi and bye sue and hello Sally :)
How are you doing?
Hi everbody back fed and watered feel human again lol
lol Norma same here.
Fine, except for the cabin fever! Haven't been out of the house (except across garden) since 29th December.
eek Sally that is bad!
I know the feeling Sally getting cabin fever ... haven't even been out in the garden
Have to go in garden to see to hens and put out wild bird food and water, but I'm running out of safe tracks.
fed the bird long before feeding myself - they are eating better than me!
have foudn that they love pears and apples along with the rest of the seeds, fat balls and bread.
Me too FM. Normal routine is cats, hens, birds, logs, then come in and put coffee on and make up log burner!
Then brakfast :-)
Tsst! brakfast sb breakfast
Unfortunately we can't encourage the birds into our garden with two cats it is not a good idea but I am glad to hear others are looking after them
We have two cats Norma, but site bird feeders carefully. They are good hunters but very rarely get a bird.
I get so facinated by watching the birds I lose a lot of time. Where I am now is much more open and less trees so no squirrels or predatory birds like magpies etc so much mor diveristy.
*flop*
Ata!!!!!
HAve you been gallumping with Hobbit?
brrrrrrrr!
tried! made it half way across the field :)
Hi, floppy Ata!
We have squirrels that chase our cats it is quite amusing... I tried putting bird feeders when we first moved into this house but the darn squirrels ate everything... we don't seem to have magpies though
2 magpies are fighting on the lawn as we speak
one for sorrow, two for joy.
Three for a girl and four for a boy.
Magpies bully the other birds they are not nice lol
and who else can remember the music and words to that ancient TV prog called Magpie?
Five for a secret never to be told. MAAAAAAGPIE.
We can rely on Haz - morning!
FM you are showing your age lol
Good morning!
5 for silver and 6 for gold
7 for a secret never to be told
Seven for the secret, you're right.
Hi Haz. We used to leave the magpies alone until we found them raiding our swallows nest. Now I'm afraid we trap them.
We have magpies around here but so far they haven't joined in the feeding frenzy at the back, they seem to leave the smaller birds alone, thankfully.
We are so lucky that the swallows nest here every year. The magpies are evil.
So, your starter for 10, can you name any or all of the presenters on Magpie?
Maggie Filbin (sp)
no!
jenny hanley, mick robertson, tony bastaple
Susan Stranks, Mick Robertson, Tommy somebody. And a girl with wispy fair hair.
Think I'm too old for Magpie.
Jenny Hanley, that's the one, thanks mummy.
or was that TizWas?
Maggie Philbin was Tiswas.
Remember the name Susan Stranks thoiugh.
LOL!
Morning all. Magpie....ah there's a blast from the past.
Susan Stranks was very striking, dark, slim, vivacious personality.
no, wasnt Tiswas sally someone
Good morning, lizmac! Magpie was kind of Blue Peter's slightly more up to date cousin.
Morning Liz and mummy.
Maggie Philbin was certainly on Noel's Swap Shop thing, you're right it was Sally James on Tiswas.
morning FMitch
oh yes, Sally James & CHRIS TARRANT
This is the kind of conversation that has all the other nationalities scratching their collective head.
Hi, lizmac and mummy. A British Babble chog atm!
So, another starter for ten, how many Blue Peter presenters can we name? And the pets?
sory, didnt mean to shout his name!
LOL yes HAz - definately one of those you hadto be there moments.
While we're on "starters for ten" I'll just have a quick boast if that's okay.Or even if it's not ok. My son is on University Challenge on Monday.
PeterNoakes and Shep
Shouting Chris Tarrant's name is entirely in keeping, Mummy, he was very loud in that programme!
John Noakes! Shep!
Valaries Singleton Petra
Goldie! I can do this one :)
Please, miss, I can name the pets because they were an answer on a programme called Only Connect.
What's his name liz? I love that programme
HOLD PROCEEDINGS TO ACKNOWLEDGE LIZMAC'S REASON TO BE SMUG!
Jack, Jill, Joey, Petro, Maggie, Jim
Chris Macleod
There was a Willow cat.

and this reminds me of when Haz blew my mind by telling me that Valrie had an affair with the other guy!
Peter Purves, Richard Bacon.
Good, will look out for him! se if I can get mre answers right than he does!
It was a brief affair between Valerie and Peter, although you still have to wonder what on earth Biddy Baxter would have said if she had known.
Why, did shefancy Peter herself?
Other presenters, Caron Keating, Yvette Fielding. Another man, Peter somebody now chief Scout.
And well, done liz for having clever son
was that a cat made of willow? we have a large willow man next to the motorway near us
Fred the tortoise.
No, but Biddy Baxter was apparently an absolute tyrant and hard to work for.
was willow the siamese?
Adjusts glasses. Read that as "Fired the tortoise"
No, the cat was called Willow. The Siamese was something else. I'll have to think.
Peter Duncan, hes not cheif scout any more I think its now Bear Grylls
Fred the tortoise became Freda once they had a closer look.
and here is one I prepared earlier, not to mention the use of loo rolls and sticky backed plastic.
Jason was the Siamese.
Peter Duncan, that's the one.
so what is a siamese if not a cat?
Leslie Judd was another presenter.
Have you ever seen the utube spoof of Blue Peter?
You could well do, mummy. I had to give him a crash course on Beatrix Potter after the team failed to answer a question about Jemima Puddleduck. Maybe that's a reflection of poor mothering that he wasn't au fait with her!!
Okay, Wilow was a cat, though not Siamese, the Siamese cat was Jason.
Hello everyone!
Hello, Brookie, we're reminiscing about British children's programmes of yesteryear.
Hi Brookie
hi Brookie, welcome to kids tv memory lane uk
Liz, what's your son's name so that I can look out for him on Monday?
So what about Tizwas and Chris Tarrent and the phantom flan flinger :)
Hi FM, Haz. I'm sure observing your chat will be educational for me
Sorry, you answered that before.
Chris Macleod.
I'll cheer him on!
anyone ever been on TV?
I didn't like Tiswas. Too messy.
I still have 2 Blue Peter books from the early days.
I was on a dance program once
Good morning all
mee, too don'tlike messing about with food
I was a scientific expert on westcountry tv once LOL
Good morning, caitlyn!
Good morning, caitlyn.
morning Caitlyn
Husband was on a local tv series about his practice.
When I was Magpie age you could still rent tvs, my folks used to send ours back in the summer, so missed vital programmes often.
He was interviewed by Suzanne Dando about teaser rams.....
hi caitlyn
Nah, I'm a star by proxy!
I was in the audience of crackerjack once and was seen on TV when whatshername was singing "I can sing a rainbow"
I was on a programme called Claim to FAme with Kenny Everett abck inthe 70's
Husband been on programme about wildlife in churchyards, talking to David Bellamy
I never liked Kenny Everett
He got fed up with the whole business of driving up to a farm, then the crew getting out and making him drive up again so that they could film it.
My husband was in the background in a scene in Taggart.
cait!! Greetings!
He wasn't playing the corpse, was he, Liz?
My dad was in the movie The Producers (the new one)
Hi FM!! I thought you hadnt seen me
I didn't much like him either. also on the prog was a weightlifter called Precious Mackenzie, he was tiny but could lift an elephant
HA HA, Haz. No, wandering policeman.
sorry - was laughing and had to wipe my eyes.
I was in the audience of Deal or No Deal and you could see me a lot
I remember Precious McKenzie!
He was on Blue Peter, I think he lifted everyone.
I was also on a game show in Aus, PAss the buck, it was rubbish, i went out in the third round, they only aired about 10 programmes and then it was binned
Elton John stood on my foot in Brian Forbes bookshop
Must go and get dressed. Enjoy your reminiscences of stardom...not that I'm bitter or anything.
Good morning all....what joy, what bliss, I do believe we have an, albeit slight, thaw on today!!!....Wonderful!!!
LOL liz see you later
Bye liz!
Why did Elton John stand on your foot, FM?
bye liz, hi flask
bye Liz, i must go and get showered and dressed too before it is time to go back to bed!
Morning Flask, we are having light snow at the moment lets hope it stays light!
Cos he was wearing huge platforms - we are going back to the 70s now
Hello, Flask. Weather's a bit of a sore point, isn't it?
You should have sued him FM
what weather, just close the curtains, BAbbleland is much more cosy!
So, it wasn't deliberate? He hadn't taken a dislike to you?
I was just overawed to see it was him!
Yes, but you've had a sore foot ever since, haven't you? And you find it hard to trust people in book shops?
I bet you were FM I would have been also
I'd say there are definite grounds for compensation.
er no Haz as you know I am a pretty likable person he just stepped on my foot as we bumped into eachother
good job the police wern't called, they could have thrown the book at him
FM Haz and myself will represent you
LOL mummy
let it go!
You're being too forgiving, FM. I say he ruined a promising dance career. Look how good you were at school with the tunics and all.
ROFL
LOL
so what ya cooking today Haz?
Just back from the phone.
Cream of celery soup, roast silverside with red onion gravy, baked potato, mixed veg, rhubarb tart and custard. Stodge!
Im heading out shortly to the supermarket and see what they have left on the shelves, only need a few bits as the freezer is well stocked.
Oh and ciabatta bread with the soup, just in case we hadn't enough calories.
Sounds like sheer heaven, Haz!!
What is the weather like with you at the moment FM?
oohhhhh if only we could get the babble jet deiced we could all go for lunch at Haz's
*looks up0 flights to Haz
thank you for the smiles this morning, by the way, at the left of my screen is a grid with letters, what's that for?
Hopefully it'll be fine, Flask, I like Sunday dinners.
That grid? <----------? No idea.
*trying to work out if she can get to Haz's for lunch*
not too bad cait - no snow overnight but at least 6 inches still on the ground.
Oh dont take any notice of them mummy that is there to distract you
ok, see you all later
its the secret code to Haz'z lunch table....
There are people who claim to be able to find words or something. They've obviously just run out of conversation and are bored.
Bad in Kent today according to the news
Bye mummy!
mmmm oatmeal. not quite as fancy as Haz's delights, but sooo warming
Bye mummy and I shall also poof for now - have been much fun :)
lol Haz
isn't! it's almost thawing!
Bye mummy and FM see you later
Nice to see you, FM. Look after that sore foot, won't you?
I am still on my healthy eating so no stodge for me :(
It's Exhibit A.
I just thought that ata but then it started snowing!
They lie on the news Ata
but we don't have typical Kent weather cos we're close to the sea
Someone in another place suggested that if I couldn't get in to the shops, I might be willing to ski, snowshoe or hike to them. Er, six miles! Ad I'm a pensioner!
I could have done with snowshoes taking pup out earlier
Also I'm terrified of even stepping out of the back door in this. Can just see me strapping on the skis!
Did you ever get proper shoes, Ata?
I am the same Sally, there is no way I am risking it
best to stay inside sally you don't want to be taking chances with falling over etc
No, stay where you are, Sally, dealing with snow is fine if you're used to it, if you're not, safety comes first.
not yet *sigh* I couldnt' find any I liked in Canterbury, and then we got snowed in
Ata are you enjoying your *rest* Have you heard from hubby?
That's a shame! Are you particularly fussy about shoes?
gosh i'm finding this grid hard today
no! very unfussy. but nearly all the sale shoes I could see had big spiky heels - not very useful for winter conditions!
he phoned yesterday, up in oxford. so he's safely there till friday. yay!
LOL
No, spiky heels don't sound like what you need.
I've got fake ugg boots and haven't been out of them since before Christmas
Clark's.
working on hubby for real ones
Husband has real Ugg boots.
I wear wellies in this.
Work harder on him Katie (wink)
Got to go, sister has arrived, so best get the coffee ready. Nice to see you all, bye for now!
bye Haz
Bye Haz enjoy your lunch.
Bye for now Haz
I'm waiting for him to forget that I need my wedding present diamond necklace repaired as i broke it new years eve
sister has them in all their different colour ways *facepalm* she gets relatives to send them over from Aus, soooo much cheaper
Oh better forget about the boots for now then Katie
yep, we haven't been in to town since but when we do we need to visit the man who sold it either to fix the chain or buy a new one
well I'm going to go and have a nap. Because I can, and because husband isn't here to whine at me about doing so!
have a good nap ata
I love husband not being here!
Enjoy yourself while you can Ata!!See you later
Bye for now ata
oh i'm over half way.........dashes off for the lisst
was reading old chat about the ugg boots, just sent a pair about a month ago to a friend in idaho, he loves them

LOL ruby and hello too
Ata is trying to get rid of husbands not collect them I think.
hi fm,

Does he cook?
((FM))

I think Ata is enjoying being without hubby
ah well then I won't be able to adopt him.

FM, are you still snowed in?
lol thanks but no ruby.

Just awfully cold here...I can handle that but I dont like to drive in snow.

So sorry FM (((double hug)))
It is the best you will find ruby.
Amen to that.
I agree, must warmer than blitz (although I'm better at that game lol)
Yay for Babbblers - and the grid as well, of course!

My husband would say that one is quite enoiugh.

HAve made some great friends here and had soo much laughter and even saw a very old babble friend last night - Anj - if you remember him.

I know our first babble love but then thats how life goes.
and we were so hoping for the green-and-yellow wedding.
He is still working hard but the latest news is that dachef is moving to LA.
fmitch, just watched a segment on CNN about the snow and cold in Europe -- wow . . .
yup Une it not been fun.
it is so beautiful here but we are in a village and access is pretty easy, just can't go up the hills
it's 9 degrees here right now!
Am happy today as it started raining and has not been below freeezing all day .... so far.
so that's what's coming here, usually a couple of days after the UK!
i just realized why email doesn't have a take-it-back-before-they-read-it feature. no email would ever get sent.
or read, rather.
true, hursh LOL
too funny, hurshy
lol hursh

Babblets are making themselves known to me...that is quite cold...
Does Snowflake (hope the name is correct) mind being out in this cold?
it's Snowball, and no, NONE of mine dogs are bothered by it -- but I've been zipping in and out with them very quickly the last week or so! Too cold for dillydallying! LOL

Oh My, Merk - its been hovering about minus 12 at night and not getting above minus 3 by day here. Its just dreadful. Whats the weather like in China?
Congrats Merk!
Our lows have been -25 and not a whole lot better by day. It was a bit breezy yesterday and we made the mistake of going to the snow sculptures ... froze my toes, I did.

hi une
hey, herin -- hard to imagine that you're sweating buckets while we're frozen solid! LOL
wont it be worry some when the snow melts?
hey, jmc :-)
layers and thermals are the answer both in and out of doors.
ty une
elder, stay safe. Our planet is having a heck of a time weatherwise. We are freezing and herin is going to sleep tomorrow away because of excessive heat.
some places, yes, herin, but where I live there's only about an inch on the ground
Herin in some areas possibly but slow and gentle will be ok.

Dear Babblers have to go take a break. Keep safe and see you all soon .
Bye elder, stay warm and safe
later, elder!
Take care Elder
Bye all and thanks. Annie, will do my up most, as I hate the cold in normal winter months. Byeeeee.
you know i'm realizing that there really is something to this six degrees of separation thing. and a lot of it is because of hollywood. you mix all these people up for every film and TV show and if you're connected to one you're connected to them all, and that can then connect you with whatever ordinary people they know...
HI Hurshy
Hurshy what do you mean?
for instance, i was in a psych class with a girl who went on to be on the show "ed". she acted in the show with justin long, the guy who's the mac in the mac commercials. he was in a movie with jennifer aniston, the break-up. she was married to brad pitt. that's four degrees from me to brad pitt!
Right Ok I get you sorry
furthermore, john hodgman is the pc in those commercials, and is on the daily show, so i'm connected to everyone on the daily show that way.
So you are saying that I am friends with this guy Gab that is in the music bus under his uncle so there for I am 3 degrees seperated from some famous types?
and once you have aniston and pitt, well, who aren't you connected to? kevin bacon, naturally, but like, zillions of famous people. brad pitt in ocean's movies with clooney, 5 degrees from me to george clooney.
and five degrees to george clooney since brad was in the oceans 11, 12 & 13 movies!
you'd have to actually make the connections herin, but, could be. :)
Well I can but year
plus, i just discovered that justin long's father is one of five tenured professors at fairfield university, and i know one of the other five. so i can go to hollywood and back again via two different routes.
and since brad pitt is now with angelina jolie, that's five to her, and therefore six to every single poor person she's met in africa and asia etc.
FOr instance. I am friends with Mel who has a cousin that is went to school with Kurt from Glee. Is that what you mean?
there ya go, herin
They had a show on TV a few years back where an ordinary person tried to connect to another random ordinary person using that six degree theory and amazingly enough they usually could. It was really interesting
it's kinda freaky. but i'm not sure it would be possible without all the mixing, both romantic and professional, of hollywood.
went to school with Kurt from Glee?? I LOVE him!!
oh, plus, since i met tom brokaw, i'm connected to everybody he's ever interviewed.
Yep Une. I think there is a babbler here that has a connection to one of the sexy boys from supernatural
Bye all, Fireworks for today! Need to get busy. Have epidurals in my back tomorrow and won't be doing much.
ouch -- good luck, rumple!
O I have one. ONe of the babblers here Asgreen her brother in law is Peter Walsh one of Oprahs cohorts
Later Rumple
i'm two freakin degrees from every president, foreign leader, etc that tom brokaw has met. TWO!
hmmm, well, a family friend in my hometown dated Roy Scheider :-)
and since he knows all the other newspeople, i'm connected to anybody he might have missed but that they've interviewed by 3 degrees.
heheh
so are all Babblers connected to the performers I've met at stage doors in New York??
Edie Falco, Brenda Blethyn, etc.
oh geez, if we add online connections then it's even crazier
no kidding!
YEp It would
I was once just inches away from Al Pacino in a NY restaurant :-)
good morning everyone;)
hey, crossy!
welcome to today's mind-blowing thoughts, crossy.
Hi Crossie
gotta go, cat needs attention
be gentle with my mind,it is in a delicate state
O dear poor crossie.
has anyone got a clue for the no6/21?
no + et4/5
great - thanks so much
listening to NPR segment on NYC dog walkers -- one guy says his feet grew a size and a half the first year!
12 left for later, hope to be back, bye dear babblers and stay warm and herin, stay cool
lol i believe it,after pounding the concrete for 15 years in the fuel business my feet wet from a size 9 to a size 11 and i lost both arches,my feet are flatter than donald ducks
later, annie!
Right its 2am. I must go
crossy, he also says he make $90,000 a year -- wow!
Loves Annie
bye, herin!
*makes
mmm..i never made that:((
would it be worth picking up all that poop? hmmmm . . .
most i ever made was 4 cents a litre, and the hydro and insurance were up to me
what kind of "fuel business'?
operating a service station
ooohhh, ok . . . (my dad worked for Gulf Oil his whole life)
we were with suncor for most of that time
first as traveling salesman, then as area distributor
I handed out orange Gulf lollies at the grand opening of a station . . . :-)
oh, and free cokes! LOL
it is a unforgiving business where you are caught between big oil and a pissed off consumer
we gave away free glasses and steak knives lol
yep, my brother took over the business and now works, of course, for BP -- fortunately he and my daughter's boyfriend who's an environmental engineer have actually found some common ground
clues for the 7s, 8s and the 9 plz
oh, crossy, I used to giftwrap all of Daddy's steak knife sets for his dealers at Xmas! LOL
and we still have some of the glasses :-)
hehe
hey, mm!

crossy, was just sayin' that I studied in Aix-en-Provence, the worked in France (Paris) for several years . . .
read even
*then worked
I can read a bit also.
and met my ex there -- learned to speak French fluently in part because we never spoke English till we moved to the States after being together for several years
Great way to learn.
he still lives here in Nashville with his second family -- at long last, we're friendly, and he's the only person who speaks French with me :-)
he spoke no English at all, hego :-)
Very interesting Une.
well of course you don't parler that often... not too many americans are bilingual... but that may be changing with all the hispanics immigrating
and eventually we'll all be speaking Chinese!
your x spoke no english? was he in the states with you??
It would be interesting to hear you speak French with an accent from Tennessee.
oh
have no TN accent in French
je peux faire les Français, mais cela est dur pour moi et prend du temps
oodle, I met him in France, not in US
I've learned to understand Spanish on the job. But I had studied French and Italian before that.
assez bien cross, bravo
Crossy's good. :-)
hego, isn't it amazing how those latin basics allow you to get the gist in all those languages?
that's why spanish is easy on the job because they are all from romance language
boy that didn't come out right
It helps with Babble
exactly, oodle -- that's why I can't speak Spanish but can understand a lot of written Spanish
great minds une...:D
LOL :-)
definitely, hego!
Reading is the easiest part for me and speaking the hardest.
i think that's true with everyone . . .
hego you might pick spoken spanish up quicker than spoken french because of the accent. although written can be tricky with no subjects which forces you to learn the conjugations of the verbs
really?
Well Oodle, I learned the grammar in school and it's the same in all the romance languages.
I think you need to practice with someone with cards... so you see it and know how it sounds from a native speaker
brokaw to cronkite to murrow to hitler. ack.
hursh! LOL
need to go do something productive -- enjoyed the chat -- later! *poof*
yes the same to a point then they get into their idiosyncratic rules...
bbye une
Bye Une, have to go also.
bye Oodle honey
did you leave hego?
oh duh
*sings a merry tune*
hi fellow Babblers!
anyone here?
((((beach))))
oodle, how are you?

There are two kh words
kilo is a prefix
kilometer, kilogram, kilosecond
look it up
ty sally
Two ko words, rest are ki
kilopants...
lol bonkler!
tent
prefix for the metric system meaning 10 x power 3
Presumably that's after Christmas Dinner
kilotent
oh pooh
anyone have a clue for eo6/18?
THANK YOU MONKEY!!!
kilopooh
brb
eo 6 - a period of time
except in many European countries where you can buy two kilos of potatoes
ty sg

RIGHT, bonkler
when one is in the science field, it is simply a prefix....

Good morning, Babblers! Poor ruru. Is your puppy keeping you company?
I wanted to go see him today. but I can't get everyone sick.. this one is really contagious..
I was nursing mrs. Ru.. washed my hands hundreds of times per day... and still got it.
Sounds like what hubby and I had over Christmas. Misery.
this too shall pass
I could lead Santa's sled at night
friends suggested i sacrifice a chicken -- worth a shot
ROFL>>>>>
:-D
I don't think the chicken should have to suffer. Perhaps you could sacrafice some tofu.
SOY VEY!
if that would appease the angry gods . . .
ruru LOL!
take care, ruru -- must take pups out to pee . . . in the cooolllddd . . . brrrr
wonders if Judi ever touches TOfu...
On rare occasions I touch it. It's fun to play with. Not big on eating it. Bland.
make a snowman and stake him through the heart
LOL Ata!
Tofu tastes like sheetrock to me.
it's not the most flavoursome thing out there
tofu takes on the flavor of what you cook it with, so stewing is best
hello ata, I just made your spinach balls but they look a little more like spinach cookies
hi all, how many words today please?
I'm opposed to eating anything that needs to be forced to taste like something. My tastebuds deserve better.
not mine :) peri deserves all the credit!
I concur judi.. too much effort for little results
188 arms
thanks ruru
tofu is texture and protein -- you need to eat some of my mom's tofu dishes ... yum
180 normal ones and 8 freakingunbelievabllydifficult ones
tofu in pad thai is yummy
kje you done yet?
I just read a book where the main character says he won't eat anything that had parents....
(written in Berkely)

YAY.. well done.. (a quiet fireworks)

LOL scary
ata?
yes>
I met a Laid-Off Cocker here in California.. is that a related breed?
a laid-off cocker? now that's one I've never heard of before!
(opposite of working cocker)
Proof that the economy really has gone to the dogs.
sounds distinctly like hobbit!
LOLOL
was just thiking that the hardest work Hobbit's ever done is to decide which treat she wants in the morning
hmmm (spoiled to pieces I bet)
something like that!
Quid has now decided he has to eat a mouthful of snow every time a car passes us when we are walking.
I wish I'd had her from a puppy so I could train her as a proper working dog
dog rituals are so strange!
He gets very stressed about cars passing, especially from behind, and eating the snow seems to help.
how odd!!
BBL. Must vac up some animal hair.
well, whatever makes him happy...
i want a dog
hi guys
one of these... http://cdn-www.dailypuppy.com/media/do gs/anonymous/alistaire.jpg_w450.jpg

so why not Faversham any more, Lindy?
he wanted too much money for the house, not worth that much
we only liked one house there!
in our price range! lol
and faversham is one of the cheapest places round here!
so we are going to orpington tomorrow to look there!

hello all! trying to find the drafts of the BIG paper I am writing... didn't look on my computer for it in three weeks and now... *shrug* who knows where I hid it? Not the logical places (obviously) running a full disk search now.
do you have an5 bo?
superman's lady interest: lois l +an* + where birds keep their hatchlings: *e**
oh no stid, holding breath for you to find it
Do a search Stid
if you remember what you titled it, stid, you can do a search of your harddrive! "let the computer do the work"!
thanks Chrissie -- I do have a hard copy, but not relishing the possibility of retyping nearly thirty pages.
I am doing that pini -- hold on, maybe some results now.
Bo, do you have an5?
no - don't have an5
and I quote: Search is complete. No results to display. Which means I put it remotely onto one of the other "boxes" in the house. *sigh*
bo, superman's lady interest: lois l +an* + where birds keep their hatchlings: *e**
an+ you exit and you ***er
what about a different drive or use another unique word for the search
An 6 just needs the snake letter stuck in the next to last place.
sorry - i do have that - only missing an6/18
we have multiple computers networked at home through a wireless connection pini. trying to locate the one I KNOW I did a few drafts on. This might be a chance for me to _really_ revise the paper! LOL
just clued
it's okay, I'll cope. just "one more thing" and it's early in the quarter yet, so no big deal.
bojazz, I clued it twice ... did you see the clue?
* giggle *
aninst
oooooooops! going to PB, no prodding needed
change 2nd vowel, bo ;)
thanks bo... LOL I am now down to a mere 167 words!
thx pini.
thx - hego & pini
stid, do the search with the first sentence of the paper
No pb, bo, that's not a word.
shoulda been - looked great to me :)
have tried BR. I'll find it. eventually. back in a few.

so can avocados... that's 2/3 the recipe for guacamole. Anyone got tomatoes? LOL
remember the coriander!
I do I do
never used coriander in guacamole... *considers* hm!
I've never done so much monkkeying in vain!
guacamole, vegemite and an aggregate can fix any pot hole
*whispers to everyone to just go along with BR...and calls the local 'hospital'*
fruit question: does anybody know an asian fruit that is magenta on the outside and mushy white with tiny black seeds on the inside and you eat it with a spoon?
sounds like guava, ruby
coriander is essential for guacamole
back later...happy babbling
LOL BR! ((hugs)) that's true. we could use the avocado pits for the aggregate. oh! we need chips!
I also use a little cumin and jalapena pepper chopped up
later pini! ((hugs))
leechee?
hi pini bbye pini
Bye Pini
see ya pini
looks a little like a grenade!
bye pini
no they don't have any black seeds
persimmons?
pomegranates?
pomagranates
lichee have one large red pit
I always get the 2 p ones confused
I tried a lichee once, and have since blocked it out of memory
no, hard reddish skin for pomegranates. My husband insists it's a mango....I'm going to throw it at him!
dragon fruit
I think it is pomagranates
canned lichees are better than fresh, I think, at least you don't have to deal with the skin and pit
ruby, try this link -- pictures and descriptions of a lot of fruit...http://www.foodsubs.com/Fruitt roex.html
What does a sloe look like?
has anyone ever had mango here
I bet its a dragon fruit
dragon fruit sounds like a good answer to me
a sloe looks like a small plum
no, I love pomegrantes, they have red pearly seeds inside, each with a bitter white pit
mangos don't have little black seeds, they have large fibrous pits.
yes boo one of my favorite fruit
mango is good with avocados
ahah, you might be onto something nrkii
mine too oodles
papayas do
everything is good with avocados!!!
fine just ignore me yelling DRAGON FRUIT for the last 10 minutes :P
but they don't have a magenta skin
I was only confirming ATALANTE's diagnosis
I'm going to google it
and here's the wiki article on dragon fruit...http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/P itaya
*laughing muchly*
i think babbles favorite 'fuit' is onion
I never saw a red papaya with white flesh?

It's absolutely normal, Flask. I don't have grandchildren yet, but lots of my friends assure me that it's an immensely strong bond.
very haz
yes I realise that too Jo!
I'll never forget the look on my mother's face the day she was able to hold my daughter for the first time. She was on cloud nine.
I couldn't believe how strongly I felt...so fast!!

Yes, babies tend to come with a 'Love me' invisible sticker on their heads.
he was grumpy today but gramma made it all better
haha yes haz
he has me whipped
Although I admit there are times when you wish they had light up signals on their forehead to indicate just why they are crying. It would help so much in the early days.
he gives me the fake cry and the pouty lower lip and i melt and he knows it too
2 and half months and grabs on

'save'
I am sure it will still be around Mummy. First trip out?

Elwood is nice, we will be moving around staying with various friends in Caroline Springs, Glen Iris, Camberwell and then Nunawading
tena t
hi lyn
Sounds like you have a full itinerary, but if you get bored or down this way, give me a yell, always on Babble in early evening
os8 help?
Hi Oodle
os & can & mashed pot***
os8 - os plus a metallic can, finish off with the ending of the red fruit/vegetable.
thanks haz and lyn... could not nail that ending
9 to go
Just as long as you don't give it the Dan Quayle ending...
wow - go nrkii
hubby bought be a little laptop for xmas so i will be bringing it with me so thatI can have my daily fix of babble, will give you a buzz if i do get some spare time!
We'll expect daily reports of life down under, mummy.
3, but tricky ones
what the heck does that os8 mean!
ok haz, I will send a regular 'babblecard'
good question ,ata
Excellent, mummy, we might as well hear about the heat and sunshine from one who knows what we've been going through!
os8 an obstinant little piece of music
ahhh
When we lived ther first of all there were power cuts and we couldn't use the aircon, I was absolutely melting, but you soon get used to it.
fireworks
obstinate? I must have always said that wrong, always with an ant ending
Well done, nrkii!
Congrats nrkii!!
Obstinate is right.
this grid was tough on me
It starts off kindly and then shows its teeth.
wtg nikri, i'm very jealous, haven't had fireworks for ages and ages
Where do you live Haz?
I have a heap left, perhaps this is why
okay, I have to run... happy babbling all
hello everyone im playin on my dads account but my S.N. is Atomsmasher420
I live in ballymena, Northern Ireland. Or as Ata would say, in the midst of the bogs of Ulster...
Bye nrkii.
bye!
beye nrkii
Hi Atom
Hello Atomsmasher, quite an interesting name!
yay for bogs!!!!
thank you
I'ts not that bad is it HAz?
No, not quite, mummy. Ata was doing a project a while back on the boglands of Northern Ireland and thought I should know all about them. I live near some bogland, but not quite IN it.
bogs everywhere!
Haz, Ata and all hello :)
Almost everywhere. We're used to squelching noises as we walk.
FM!!!
Hello FM!
Hello FM
oh, I see is it one of those places where they have dug up bog people? like Pete Marsh who was unearthed in a bog somewhere that I can't remembe
Hello FM
This is just like our mornings, lynxx's evenings.
Hey there ladies, not stopping long but had to hadve a quicke babble hello.
Pete Marsh! you are joking aren't you?
No, no Pete Marshes over here. There are large areas of bogland - Ata knows about the geography etc, they've been used for producing fuel over the years but not so much now.
HAve indulged ina youtube evening and listened to so many lovely songs.
I know far too much about bogs LOL
blanket bogs and raise bogs and fens and things
Oh, good for you, FM, nice to listen to stuff you enjoy.
no, lynxx he was named that because he was dug up in the PEAT marshes, we have peat moors here and they are still extracting peat for gardening
Ata jsut know so much about everything!
We tend to talk about the moss here and people can rent pieces of land to cut peat/turf for burning.
BBL we need our walk before it gets too hot
See you later, lynxxx, say hello to Stew.
too hot now there is a phrase to sigh for Bye lynxxx
I know about Peat...just couldn't believe they would name a body Pete Marsh. Wacky. Seeya
(Wonder how long it will be before we're saying it's too hot to go for a walk?)
a long time!
bye lynxx, bye HAz
bye bye all, see you another day
umm prob one day in June Haz :) and then it will be back to usual.
Do you suppose the Met Office will stop issuing long range weather forecasts now that they've messed up so royally this year?
Bye, mummy, see you again.
I know somebody named Peter Marsh...
They predicted a barbecue summer and a mild winter. Only slightly short of the mark. No4/4 extensive use of sarcastic font.
I doubt it Haz.
Most of my icicles have melted today!
the Met Office always get the forecast wrong for Faversham
There's a definite thaw here as well. The only drawback is that the wind is getting up.
*groans* why did I set my Daleks in a huge white tiled vault?
What will we manage to talk about once the weather has gone *grin*
I know. We've always found it hard in the past to find anything to chat about in the log, haven't we?
cos you have a great eye Ata and will work it out.
incredible isn't it that we have managed to chat for 4 years or so.
I know!
it's just so booooring to colour :P
clue for sh 7/32
You should train Hobbit to do the boring bits. Make her work for her gruel.
lol
silverclaw is the artistic one. she sits on my paintings while I'm trying to do them
sh7/32 - three letters for a female, two letters for neither male nor female, finish with what you get if you lie out in the sun/what they do to cow-hide to make leather.
if it's white do you have to colour it?
*gasp*
how many tiled walls do you know that are 100% pure white???!!
thanks Haz - much appreciated!
(apart from Haz's)
You're welcome.
I know, but you can see where I was coming from.
clue for the third te 6/18 pls
oh utterly!
The third te6/18 is a plural for Pavarotti and co.
that was my thought when I blithely shoved half a picture of them in. Now I'm realising it takes rather a while!
The one following the canvas dwelling adds a couple of vowels to the end.
ty Haz
You're welcome.
Can you change the colour scheme halfway through? Introduce some patterned tiles for added interest?
Was wondering how Lori and Uni are doing must send then an email.
A kind of 60 minute makeover for a picture?
I do have a bit of difference in them. I'm just moaning :D
LOL might clash with the darlek colours.
Oooh, ooh, hello, everyone!
I bet FM told you to colour them white, didn't she?
I have a red dalek, a copper coloured dalek, a grey one and a splotchy white one :)
Hello Vicuna! How nice to see you!
Vi hello!!!!!!
Vi!!!!11111!!!!!
How is everyone?
What news on the Rialto?
hello all
Lovely to see you
I'm fine, Ata is moaning, FM is still singing after her youtube session.
Hello, peri.
Lovely to see, you, too. Hello, peri.
Youtube singing? For real???
what is a dalek?
And I'm trying to pick up all the spare !! that Ata and FM have carelessly flung around.
It's the thing that's always in bookdocgwen's ic4.
thinking of making pumpking bread but too tired
peri, you're my kind of woman. A dalek is a fictional monster as featured in Dr Who.
LOL Haz and Hi peri
I am missing one d!
Waste not want not, eh, Haz?
wow haz!!!!
ty haz, don't watch Dr. Who
Absolutely, those !! are a dwindling resource.
i'm making pizza
not for sup tho
I don't watch it any more, I used to see it as a child, mostly viewing the TV from behind the settee, It was scary!
fed up with snow here tho Vi but not complaining as it hasn't snowed in 2 days.
might take a short nap, bbs
do 5/14 anyone?
Bye, peri.
I need a nap!
I hear that semi-colons were the result of a Japanese captive breeding program for !'s that went awry.
babble has been keeping me sane, that and hibernating - how much sleep can a person get?!
I wouldn't know, I'm sorryt o say, FM! lol
do5/14 - old fashioned English way of saying do.
lol
do... unto thee
It's a heady responsibility, knowing that we're the only thing standing between FM and the Home for the Bewildered.
that will teach you to have kids then Vi!
Glad you're staying sane, at any rate. (*wondering whether she was sane to begin with*)
ty!
Oh, I've learned my lesson. Never again!
You're welcome, science.
an6?
NEver said I was sane at any point!
Love your ic4, science. I'd seent hat one before, but forgotten it.
an - meaning beside, an plus an anagram of the bird home.
just aspier to it.
also apire to one day being able to type properly.
thx haz
Well but how can you *keep* sane if you aren't sane to begin with, eh? (Logic like a steel trap, that's me.)
*giggle8
You're welcome, Shirlockc.
hello. this one is tougher than it looked :)
Hello, dc, it has teeth.
Well, Ata, you have trouble with white tiles and I am stir crazy with Photoshop today! Makes me nuts to sit here and clean up photos!
Hey dc!! Gonna go and put the kettle on back in a mo.
Hello, dcseain.
Hey DC
hey dc hi shirl
i should make some food, but i'm unmotivated.
hi, haz, FM, Vi, science, oodle
I love doing that, science. but only with my tablet, using a mouse is irritating
hi sg
She's done it again, Ata, set off to put the kettle on without taking orders. After all our training...
howdy, ata
outrageous!
I mouse is irritating! Updating websites is also irritating! oh full of irritation today.
So, Ata is bogged down in dalek-tile, FM is struggling to stay warm and/or sane, Haz is picking excamation points out of the floor cracks, and science is nuttily photoshopping. Looks like another standard day in Babbleland.
*A* mouse
LOL Vic
You need a soothing cup of tea, science. If only FM had asked.
*exclamation(!)
warm has been a challenge last few weeks
and 52 irritating words remainining
co7 and 8 pair?
And you, VI, how are you spending your time?
an 6/18 anyone?
Quite the nip int he air these days, indeed.
sorry, co 8 and 9 pair?
co8 - co plus one who rents.
an plus an anagram of the bird home
co8 and 9 rent a house together
For an6/18, that is.
80 here sg and sickened, and still have to make pizza
ty, shirlock for co8/9 :)
thix Vic
ty
you need a tablet, sg. makes life sooo much easier
go for the pizza! I love making homemade pizzas! Whole wheat crust???
I'd love to play with a tablet, but can't justify the expense.
You're not advocating wholesale use of drugs, Ata?
Ata - maybe for next christmas. How does it work with Photoshop?
no reg. but it's a good staple at work
What are these tablets of which you speak?
clue for the second th6
lol, Haz. Taking Ata's tablet internally would certainly not be advisable!
Stone tablets
steles
loool especially not a big one
If the first th6 ends in a vowel, the second ends in a plural consonant.
Haz, they are graphic things - you use a "pen" on them, and what you do with the pen translates to the computer screen
But, Ata, I am only cleaning up photos not making art~
Ah! Probably expensive and only really justifiable for semi-professional use, I suppose?
Yep.
still a heck of a lot easier, sg
dedicated amateur use upwards
back with tea :)
hello friends!
I am that amateur!
Why do the people who come up with computer names use words that are already in use? Like mouse and tablet, can they not invent new words?
stiddy!!!!!
hey stid
was just talking with a friend in Moscow, he says it's a balmy -8....
(Haz, duck! You're about to be heckled!)
Hello stidmama.
thanks FM! *holds out empty teacup* now I don't have to get up!
I've adopted the brace position under the desk.
hey Vi! ((hugs)) happy new year!
Sheesh. I *meant* to warn FM to duck. And now I've blown it. Sigh.
but I use mine for normal computer, not just for drawing
oh dear, it's nearly as cold here as in Moscow :/
afternoon, stid
hello Haz -- are you all snowed in too? seems rotten luck for the british isles this winter.
Hello, stidmama! Happy New Year to you and yours!
lol like you did that memorable day eh Haz :)
We've had more snow over the past while than Ive ever seen over here, stidmama, and it's MUCH colder for longer than normal.
my hope is to get another 27 words before I have to get the stidkid to rehearsal...
Go, stid, go!
NASA posted pictures of a snow-covered Britain:http://tinyurl.com/yese2bw
that's what our winter was like last year Haz. you have all my empathy!
I have ICE in my fountains - Houston, Texas - ice
how weird, science!
brrr science *offers extra sweaters*
It is weird - 4 days of this mess! I don't go out~
I took a photo yesterday of my koi fountain covered in ice
wow great pic dc
So much for losing my added insulation from the holidays
oh dear, are the koi down far enough they are okay?
LOL The fountain is a Koi - Vietnamese pottery! No real koi, the raccoons would eat them
koi in the pond at the Hirshorn Sculpture garden, move very, very slowly under the ice here in the Winter
wanted a koi pond
WHich pic, FM, the Britain one(s) or my icon?
oh! good. *nods head* when I put goldfish in our little "puddle" by the lilacs the SNAKES eat them! no winning...
too many nocturnal critters to have a koi pond at my house
The raccoons use our pool to train their young to swim
hello everyone :)
hi, nan
how cool, science
my dream is someday to put a nice big pond (the next door neighbors built a HUGE one) in the back to help keep it cool in the summer. We'll need little things like that in a few years.
That's cool, too, science.
hey nan!
The UK snow one that you put he url up dc.
Hello, nan.
The pic of Britain kind of proves that we haven't just been imagining the whole thing.
Hello, cybernan.
oh, yes, a friend of mine who's originally from Wall's End posted it, which is how it came to my attentention.
indeed not, Haz!
second letter for the O on the right? and the same for the i underneath it?
Hi cnan
of5
of, stid
thanks vi
kife
in4
oops
*sigh* eating koi, apparently
*groans* swedish drama is soooo depressing

bergman?
in5 - silly
then why are you watching it atalante?
thanks for those, I am now NBT and down to 100...
just read through the chog -- I guess this was a good winter to stay home -- 4C here today (about 38F, I think)
not! just turned it over to a programme about Timbuktu
right toasty there, then nan
Yeah, that's balmy, cnan!
Girl Scouts at the door - must be cookie time
Wallander
Sent the husband
squeee! GS cookies :D
Wallander's based in Timbuktu?
they will only add to the insulation problem
cookies or magazines, got a cute note from a brownie whose mother I know -- actually have a couple magazines I would like to order this time.
I bet he wishes he was
oh! past halfway!
i have some African Suits from a shop in Timbuktu
cookies - he bought them - peanut butter and shortbread - sucker for a cute face
Hi everybody.
hi, soodle
Hello, Soodle.
hey soodles! must have heard me talking about the snow! global warming, indeed! roflmao
soods
Hello, Soodle.
hello
but what of the coconut ones? They're the best :D
that was a nonsequitur seain! or did I miss the transition?
hello, pic
Hello. pic.
dc agree - but i sent HIM so I did not get a choice
hey pic
Hello, pic.
LOL science
girl cout cookies stid
AHA! down to 88 on a vulgar word for manure.
I like the banoffee ones
banoffee?
no, I caught the cookie thread... it's the suits from timbuktu I am puzzling over. I don't think those would be very tasty
*mutters* How I can possibly be stuck so long on one short word?
oh, dear stid pulled ahead of me
47 left and i cannot see a thing
back to photoshop
of course I did seain! I am La Stid! *wicked mama grin*
na 6, please?
Oh, that's how: I *thought* I had already typed it. Harrumph.
go science go!
oh vi, don't you just hate when that happens?
na6 - same structure as the nurse who used to be in charge of hospitals.
Yes, I sure do, indeed, no question, absolutely!
ty -- found it
oh wow. thanks HAz
You're welcome.
thanks, haz
the nurse?????? Haz??????
sh5,18 anyone? please?
And it plurals as well. I like words like that.
the ma**** in charge of the ward, like Mother in latin
change gears Erda
sh 5/18 to change
science - follow Mr King Cole with President Reagan's shortened first name.
got it ty
graveyard sh5
or a key on the keyboard
HAve to go. Time to hibernate also I had to admit to watching the best of Top Gear.
It absolutely HAD to be something simple -- Thank you, pic
sure
FM, can you wait a few minutes?
So which of them do you like, FM? It can't be James, not with that hair.
njoy, FM, and be well.
Farewell, FM... (or, not?)
ok
later FM. stay warm. be well. drink tea. ((hugs))
i'll bbs. gonna empty dishwasher, empty sink, and start on making some pasta.
later seain. (((hugs)))
Every time he appears (James May) husband mutters 'get you hair cut'. I admit it could do with a wee bit of attention.
*thinking seain must be actually MAKING pasta, not merely boiling water for dried store-boughten stuff*
was just wathcing the bit when there was a dirt bike a subaru and a plane all passing eachother. Incredible.
I was just going email you the latest work-in-progress :)
What about the rest of us, Ata?
I know, their stunts are something else.
wil def stay on line for that Ata.
oh well, I guess you lot can see too!
The rest of us aren't as privileged. Not that we're annoyed or anything.
"koshet" a small kosher article? *sigh* the K tile has me stymied. or 8 of the words do.
I would LOVE to see it Atalante!
Oh good!
Well, I guess we know where we stand then. *sulk sulk*
os 8, please?
also wondering about Vi's current work... if any?
Oh, now I know where we stand! Hooray! lol
I just need to resize it, hence the minute or two :)
ooh. monkeyed two more K words
I hate K words. Always.
hey I have to have some privelages seeing as I have to carry the blame for all of babble!
os8 - os plus a metal can, finish with the ending of Ireland's favourite vegetable.
ty haz -- what a weird word!
Thanks, Haz.
thanks HAz! perfect clue!
it's a musical word.
very good clue haz
It's musical and means a recurring fragment of music.
Well, I guess that's true, FM. But isn't it your fault you have to carry all the blame in the first place?
I think. *looks up word*
(I didn't know that before, but found out this evening)
Glad the clue worked!
yep. music "a constantly recurring melodic fragment"
oh, Haz already got it! LOIL
thx Haz - great clue
Haz - I caught the first episode of Torchwood on one of those obscure Sky channels. Yum
oh heck and lol how do I argue out of that one and how the heck did I get into this position in the first palce, can anyone remember?
You're welcome, bojazz.
Soodle, you're not talking to the right person about Torchwood, I've never watched it! FM and Ata are the experts.
ok, I put a copy up as my pic, but it's pretty small. boo. FM and Vi, I sent you a decent size version!
Thanks!
is the sh 7 just as obscure?
Yes, it's obscure as well. (sh7)
SH 7 like a participle for the sh 5/12 that precedes
Aha! My last comment redirected to Ata & FM....
sh7 - three letters for a female, two letters for a neutral, running together with sun damage.
you can see Silverclaws ear in the top left corner :)
yay Torchwood <3<3<3
oops -- forgot there was more than one -- looking for the first one
middle left even lol
golly atalante! it's GORGEOUS!!!!
I've clued the first one below, cybernan.
ty -- another great clue
Oh, most excellent, Ata! lol I can see that the tiles would become tiresome, but they do make a good backdrop.
thanks Haz! I didn't have that one yet
She's not bad, is she? Grandpa would be so proud.
You're welcome, stid and don't forget to plural it.
I didn't think I had your email, stiddy, but I do! I sent you a decent sized version too :)
good Ata, can now see what you mean about the tiles but think about how the tiles were in the tube in the war - not clean.
they look awesome, Vi, but by golly it's boring to colour them!
awesome. thanks atalante!
No, because they hadn't invented Cif cream then.
YEah, well, you've got to suffer for your art, right? lol
and it's time for me to make like a tree and leave....
lol yes yes, dont' we all know it!
Did you get those 25 you wanted, stidmama?
Bye stid, did you reach your goal of words?
((hugs all)) thanks for the mental break. down to 69 if I manage to return later I will list.
Bye stiddy
(Clearly Haz and I keeping our eyes on the traget...)
brb pup wants a wee (as you all needed to know that)
bye stid
so yes, my basic goals (halfway and no blanks ) are met! *happy mama face* *poof*
(The target, too. Sigh.)
traget - thats my sort of typing!
Goodbye, then! Take care.
bye
It's a tragic traget, I'm afraid.
tite
Still, think how much duller it would be without our typos.
True - always makes me smile how many typos we make we can still read the posts.
Very glass-half-full, Haz.
I must be a bit of an optimist. I just know they've made me laugh out loud sometimes.
babblers are optomists aren't they?
*!* ta da *!* - thanks for the help :)
Moving swiftly on before FM and Ata comment....
Congrats cnan.
well done, cybernan!
lol... Speaking of typos, do you mean optimists or optometrists?
Yay for cybernan!
any one want clues before I go and watch the curling playdowns?
I think optimistic optometrists would see life through rose tinted specs.
shall I mention the under the desk moment again HAz seeing as you got away with it earlier *grin*
Good point, Haz.
Nobody noticed, thank goodness, FM!
hiya and wazap y'all
Hello BDG!
Hello, Book Doc. SOmeone asked earlier what daleks were and I referred them to your ic4.
Gwen - you have to see Atas latest artwork!!!
They asked because of Ata's newest piece - check out her ic4!
Yes, click on her at 3.28.
does anyone know ki 7/48
guess not -- bye everyone -- back at the flip :)
BRB
Oh, yeah, thanks, cybernan! Bye!
back
She's currently facilitating canine urination (Ata, that is)
ki 7/48: type of energy
Bye cybernan, have a nice afternoon.
ki 7: archaic cattle + facial twitch
canine uriation completed
Excellent!
she's so funny, she hates stickig her bum in the cold
thanks
so she goes to a quite steep slope, faces towards the top of the slope and does her business with her bottom out of the snow
She's clearly thinking out a good strategy.
you can't tell me that dogs don't think after that!
Oh, they definitely think.
what they think is another matter lol
i can haz tall cliff?
lol
she tends to throw herself off tall cliffs lol
hey i don't like sticking my bum in the snow either lol
Flying - I does it!! (???)
nor would I!
and on that note I am going to say goodnight, time to hibernate again.
nighty night mitch
Goodnight, FM! Sleep well.
Great chat and Happy babbling.
night dear! thank you for hanging on!
((()))
Toodle-pip!
I really don't think there are nearly enough S and T words in this grid.
does anyone else have a cat who "echolocates" them by meowing went out of sight?
meow??
looking for help with fi6/27
Hmmm... Well, ours meows when out of sight, but I don't pretend to know what her little walnut brain thinks it's accomplishing thereby!
she meows from wherever she is, I reply "Silverclaw!". She meows louder as she gets closer, I reply each time until eventually she finds me
just where I was 5 minutes ago, of course
fi6/27 will come to an end
fi6/27 - quantifiable, able to be calculated.
fi 6/27 a part of a fish plus ite
thx pic & Haz - embarrassing to miss that :(
(For future reference, pic, please try not to write out so much of the word!)
no problem
You're welcome, bojazz.
sheesh
ty pic
vic where from??
Where from what?
home??
Oh. lol I'm in Needham outside Boston.
huh??
nice
what's the weather like?? brr
Yeah, we like it here, for the most part. It was -14 C here last night! USually not quite so cold.
ouch!
feels like icebox here
Yeah, I bet!
Thank goodness we don't have to choose between heating the house and eating!
there. changed my icon to how we all should be in this weather!
eo6?
lol\
hi all
it's the dryness, i'm chapped all over!
eo6 - three letters for a long time, follow with a man's name (think Bond's fleming)
eo6/18 - having to do with long periods of time
Hello, jmc.
Hi jmc
atal pb for u
Hello, jmc.
Is Mr Haz out dealing with cow bottoms? You're on awfully late for a Sunday!
fint
what?
clue for to7/28 pls
Well, have promised to play with son for a bit, so I'll have to be back later for these last pesky few!
I know! He's out but at a friend's house at the minute. he's on duty so can be contacted if need be.
See you later, Vi.
got the eo6 thx
aha! I knew he must be lurking elsewhere :D
to7/28 - ends with fork prong
And bye, all!
byde dearest!
I know, if he were here, he'd be chatting and I'd not be chatting to you, if you know what I mean.
Bye, Vi, bestow greetings on the TOG.
lol yes I do
awww Uni's cat caught her first mouse
whoo hooo uni cat!
Clever Emma! Did that take much training or did hunger drive her to it?
ty vicuna
I'm not sure ... Uni probably left her without food
st8?
st8 - st plus Pres Reagan plus a Spanish aunt
beginning of not weak+ spanish aunt
hi hi
thx for the st8
Thanks for the st8 clue
Hello, dorens!
hi dorens
how are you doing in all that snow and cold there haz/
hi dorens
yes, indeed, Emma had been left alone for a Whole ight
It's cold here too!
sorry for typos.. just finshed lunch for ten with cousins and kenbrought over ridiculously good wines. so good I just had to finish ..
yum
*night
It's just about copable, Dorens, but I'll be glad to see it gone.
ok then, kaplan how are you doing with the cold? and yes , haz that is the best attitude
awww Uni has gone out to buy Emma special treats
She'll never keep up Emma's mousing skills if she gives her treats.
she already had normal dry treats. Uni has gone to buy her extra-special wet treats. Outrageous
i don't know haz. my lucy thinks that mice and moles and voles and baby chickadees are far better than any special treats i can find
I think her mother needs to intervene.
I think you're right!
Is your garden littered with the evidence of Lucy's hunting prowess, Dorens?
oh so absolutely littered (but in other weather... I rarely find things on top of the snow, and she is far more content to spend time indoors right about now)
I suppose wildlife can't read the signs at the gate 'Abandon hope all ye who enter here.'
does anyone know eo 6/18?
giggling at haz
to7 before the weight measure?
eht eo
long time + *** fleming
pic, eo plus a consonant (meaning a long time), then a boy's name (Scottish), same as Sir *** Fleming who wrote James Bond.
the eo**** age, or era, or period... far too many glasses of wine to remeber the proper term right now, sorry
Doren is speaking in tongues, I think.
Back, maternal duties fulfilled for the time being.
indeed i am, but whose, vi?
to7/32 - adds a nervous twitch to the end of the preceding to4/4
she's giving us the silent treatment
just monkeyed it! thx haz
well done Vi
No one knows, Doren. It's quite a mystery.
Yes, I got off quite lightly this time, Vi.
You're welcome, Shirlockc.
talking to yourself Vi?
I just called you "Vi," Ata. I am completely losing my mind.
I think Dorens is doing very well considering her intake of alcohol. Goodness, look at FM some days and she's mostly stone cold sober.
oh good, vi. glad to know that.. i was really having trouble pondering that one
I mean, she's including commas and everything. That woman deserves a prize.
*hands Doren a prize*
i actually can't count how many glasses i had.. i just know that there was casa mantalena (about which a movie was made) and then a lovely pouilly-fussé which complemented my jambalaya perfectly
Afternoon, freezing (and alcoholic) babblers! Just getting into the bourbon myself.
*but hits self over head with prize first, in the hope that it will pound some sense in*

Good afternoon, Jayk.

Dorens, you're allowed to slump right now, dear.
oh hego, i am actually lying down in bed!!!
I remember meeting one of my daughter's flatmates and thinking what lovely posture she had. It was courtesy of a back brace, she had to wear it as a result of an accident. But she stood SO straight.
ty Queen of Clues

CLUE PLEASE FOR THE ST8/40??
sorry for shouting
st plus Pres Reagan, plus a Spanish aunt.
I can't find the en 5/10?
kept trying to go in the wrong direction- thenks
en plus that blessed Spanish aunt.
No problem, sammysmom.
en5/10= en and spanis for aunt
oh. Now I'm here, ladies, can I ask you all a question at large?
you can ask
how come we never use the uncle?
thx guys! where would we be without the spanish aunt?
how about th 8 please?
EXACTLY, Hego! JUST what I was thinking
well, has anyone got any magic advice/tips on how to recognise/treat a concussion?
Up the creek without a paddle. The Spanish aunt, Mr Gore, Mr Garfunkel - babble would be a different place.
do spaniards even have uncles?
yes!
eyes nb, look at the pupils... are they dilated?
NB--thought about the emergency room?
(was married to a neurologist for 20 years... did get one or two good things out of those years)
see if the eyes can follow a pencil moved in front of them as well
th8 - there are two. If you have th7, make the ending into a number for one, then make the th7 plural.
NB sleepiness, dizziness could be symptoms.confusion too.
is the person disoriented? are teh pupils dialated or different sizes?
hah haz, you presume too much!!!!!
Best to follow Jay's advice, though.
Hax--what if you DON'T have the th7?
Then we clue it for you.
thanks all, will put that to good use! Think he's probably concussed based on that, so probably better go look after him ;)
state of consciousness... don't let the possible concusseee go to sleep!
th7 - th4/5 plus three quarters of the number before ten.
Sorry, NOT Hax. Ok, clue?
NB he should see a professional. Remember Natasha Richardson!
yes, if all he wants to do is sleep, take him to hospital
ty haz... have all t's now!!!!
oh really?! what would happen if he fell asleep, Dorens? He is definitely confused.
The th4/5 I'm talking about isn't the slim one, but the one after it.
thaks, haz, got all three from your 1st clue :)
And don't let him sleep!
then get him to ER nancy
and keep talking to him
You're welcome, dc, glad it helped.
if they sleep, you can't monitor their state of consciousness
Get him to a hospital NOW< NB>
pasta's cooking, will be ready in a moment. :)
Okay, calling for a taxi now :) thank you all. I'm rubbish in an emergency. Ta for the help, and I'm sure Leo will be grateful too...
if he is really confused take him to hospital
Good!
NB, be prepared for a long wait in ER, it'll not be a rapid visit, unfortunately.
oh goodness seain, don't talk to me about food... just finished gumbo, jambalaya and cajun cocoanut cake
ask the taxi driver where the nearest A&E department is, NB. some london hospitals don't have them
take a book
Because it's Sunday night and the place might be awash.
good evening, babblers - so nice to see you all - thinking about what to say to seain who introduced me to a devilish game - that has had me mesmerized for a few days....
a long book
I'm expecting that, Haz, especially with all the ice about! Nightmare
a long book
hi j!
hi doren!
Hi jbv
Hello, JBV.
The nearest A&E was the first thing I located when I moved here Ata :)
Hope it goes okay, NB.
good! :)
oh, reading back, and good luck to you, Nancy Boy, at the hospital - hope all goes well
good luck NB
did anyone else get hooked on that maddening Word List - web game?
prayers be with you NB
Thank you JBV, and all, but better go play nurse now. Thanks for the advice! *poof*
and you're not crap in an emergency - understanding it is all important!
JBV, I think hurshy did.
Hi all, back
Hello. lynxxx.
i am 3 - THREE - words away from finishing the color words grids - can't give up
me jbv
How was your walk, lynxxx?
LOL that thing is evil
Not hooked JBV, but still playiig them (the food one as well)
i am way far from finishing i pick at it each day
I'm rubbish at it, my mind doesn't associate the right things at all.
i just find it so fascinating - because it uses completely different word and language skills than what we do here
there is a food one?
i cannot possibly find time for another word game... am closing my eyse to chat!!!!!
here we let our monkeys play with letters and do not have to even know what words mean.....
Poor jmc. More worlds to conquer.
Very pleasanT Haz, lots of dogs around so Stew had a good time too
but that one is totally dependent on word links and meanings
Oh, that's good, a nice walk is such a pleasant occupation with a dog.
Haz--I got the plural th thingy but I am not seeing the "number for one" part
jmc - drop the last 4 letters in the address line and put in food. Not as good as the other one though
ty lynxxx
anyway, today I accomplished one big chore - put away the Christmas decorations! everything else is a big mess, though :)
*wondering how many hours a day i can devout to word games and still work*
whoo hoo jbv
Jayk, th8/45 the first ends in the number before ten.
work does get in the way
jmc--if my experience is any guide, I think I've lost about four hours of work per day just to this
excellent jbv.. i am still looking at my tree and thinking about getting it down!
Good evening to my fellow babblers! How is everyone?
hi min
By the way, congratulations to all the finishers! YAY!
Hello, Minver.
hello
Hi Minver
does anyone have th 8/45?
Haz--I got that one. i think the one I'm missing is the last one. Maybe not--but pretty sure
hi Min
Hello pic! How are you doing? Welcome to the puzzle!
The last one is plural for th7/32, Jayk.
A th 8/45 word ends with the number before ten pic.
thanks i'm just stuck on th 8/45
th 8/45 there are 2 - one is a singular ending in a vowel, other is plural, no vowel
Haz--then I guess it's the other one I'm missing
pic, if you have th4/5 (looks like a boys name) then add the number before ten.
my lord i think i am going to freeze to death!
uh oh.. 14 left, have to leave in ten minutes and i'm falling asleep
The second one takes away the vowel from the end of the number and replaces it with a plural letter.
do you know what you need doren? we can help
last two na's
in 6/7
thanks Haz and Minveryork
yw
na6 - same structure as a nurse who is in charge of a hospital, and its plural.
th + medicine **dine + number after 8
na 6 and 7 - add Disney robot movie of the 70s??
in6 and in7 - in plus a kind of lawsuit, and plural
cool, thanks joann
other th8 - change the last vowel of the 1st th8 to a plural consonant
in 6 - in + course in law school
and haz both clues were spectactular
Well done, Dorens, any more?
Big bowl of corn and tomato shells, with ample onion and black pepper, in PB :)
and now all ki's over four letters
fresh tomatoes in it too.
Hi dc
tomato shells? i never shelled my tomatoes
To ki4 - add a nervous twitch, then a metal and its plural.
ki 7 - type of motion or energy
shell-shaped pasta, jmc :)
ki5/18 - family plus not out, and then plural.
ooooo
3 of the ki's start with ki + hit tennis ball over the ***
ki 6/30: ki + not out + not outs
hi seain, I think you missed our discussion of that crazy web game you introduced us to - i'm not sure whether to thank you, but it has me hooked
me too, frustrating as it is :)
lovelhy. just killed the k's. you are fabulous
my son started laughing when he saw me trying to play it
i think jilli found the random guessing too stressful
We aim to please, Dorens.
did he explain why, jmc?
he said it would take me forever to finish it
PLEASE no one tell me where to find this other game!
PLEASE no one tell me where to find this other game!
it isn't random guessing -- it is all compound words really
jayk, see my profile
and common phrases, if not always the most common
*puts blinders on Jayk*
DON'T LOOK!
no jayk needs to work sometime since she is self employed
Handful left: time to beg. i'm missing the middle in 4/4s
jmc, did you remind your son who has control of the purse strings?
the only thing the game lacks is a chog
I'd pay good money to the person who would tell me what the 7 letter word that goes with horse is (in the white squae)
lol he has a job BR
LOL BR
all I pay is that college thing
college tuition=my annual income
and done! in time to go on to round two of too much good food and insanely good wine!
And jmc--shouldn't "self-employed" imply at least SOME degree of self-discipline?
in4/4 - in plus two vowels (missing a d from the country of Madras and Calcutta)
Well done, Dorens!
Enjoy Dorens, sounds delicious
in4/4 in plus first letters of Reagan's name.
do you mean the 6-letter at intersection of Horse and Cow?
back from my nap!
Doren, when is the best time to go to Sanibel?
Feeling rested,peri?
if so, i don't have it, but think that goat+lamb=llama is a cluehi, peri
lynxxx - that's quarter horse
fall or spring, but honestly any time is good for me, peri
yes,Haz
actually having been selfemployed for 30+ years myself i can say Jayk it implies that you have incredible self discipline
Congratulations Dorens on fireworks! Hooray for you
oh, that one :">
yay, doren!
DC - Cow?! - Ah thanks Dorens
whoo hoo dorens
That's good, peri, naps are wonderful things.
oh, congrats, doren

Soory not Dorens - JBV - wasn't thinkig American enough

oh no peri. winter is terrific too.. just avoid summer. thanks all and good night
Bye Dorens!
bye dorens
g'night dorens
Goodbye Dorens! I will see you tomorrow in the chog!
Haz--could you arrange to ALWAYS be here between 5 am and 8 pm US EST?
but jayk the good part of the other game is that there is no time limit
What's it worth, Jayk?
uh oh, jmc.
so I can spend a few minutes and go do something else
LOL
I'm rarely on at this tme, just so happened that I was free - it's been fun!
the problem with babble is that if i don't finish i start all over the next day
be well, haz
Haz--worth a lot!
I think I've outlasted all the other Brits, unless Ata's lurking somewhere.

We'll open negotiations...
I'm here!
hi, Ata!

Excellent, Haz! I'll have my people call your people.
thanks dc
sh 5/18: I work a night sh*** at McDonald's periwinkle
no, but thinking about it :)
thanks Min
WHY didn't I see that??!!
st + pig sound is an **nk + 3rd letter
yw
Good! I'll instruct my people to expect a call from your people.
I think you go grid blind after a while, I'm always amazed at what I miss.
My people are pretty firm about a lot of things. :)
bye folks, dinner's ready - good luck with the grid!
Bye, JBV!
bye
bye jbv
hasta, jbv
no 6/21? this is pathetic.
no5 - reach a nervous twitch by means of a vowel.
lone i on the right?
no6/21 rhymes with word that has to do with poetry
noetic
no6 that should be.
OOPS OOPS
hairy nosed dolphin
in5 - stupid/silly.
That's it Jayk!
the no 6 clue was lovely, Haz
Thanks, hego, glad it helped.
*skulked off to penalty box* how long do i have to stay there?
Not long, you've got a grid to finish.
I'm just sitting back admiring the lovely cluing.
uh,clueing
Yes, I do. And precious little time to do it.
ther's peanut butter - chocolate fudge, and fresh pasta in PB right now, jayk! *pours jayk a glass of sweet table red *
go jayk go
dc, you need to check for nut allergies first.
ooo love sweet reds
i'm loving the pasta. the sweet red, not so much.
peanuts are not a nut.
jack?
no nuts in the fudge, just peanuts/peanut butter
You'll be revived by the food, Jay
They're not?
the th 5/12--the fifth one?
nope. peanuts are a rhizome.
they grow underground haz
to th5 own self be true
They are, however very allergenic.
indeed so hego.
fireworsk
got that one--the other one
whoo hoo peri
Way to go, Peri!!
YAAAYYY!!! Peri!
dc, can you recommend any goos seafood restaurants in dc. my sister will be there in Feb
congrats peri
Well done, peri!
ty all
peanut allergies were unknown when i was small. Now that a bunch of people have moved from up north, peanut allergies have become common.
peanut allergies were unknown when i was small. Now that a bunch of people have moved from up north, peanut allergies have become common. congrats, peri
peanut allergies were unknown when i was small. Now that a bunch of people have moved from up north, peanut allergies have become common.
congrat Peri!
*good* even
There's a plural for th4/5, if that's the one you mean, Jayk.
let me get my washingtonian magazine
evening all
hello dan
sorry for the multii-post. how odd.
hi, dan
Hello dan.
mmmm Vidalia has a great shrimp and grits dish 1990 M st nw -- downtown DC
Damn! Only 5 left. right hand i?
in5/10 - silly
not out + two vowels, Jayk
hairy nosed dolphin jayk
ok, aything else, she does not eat shrimp
she could probably do an online search too, jmc
I have 39 left. The board keeps freezing . I am not going to go all out tonight- once in a weekend is enough.
Sorry, doesn't come from that one. in plus two vowels (leave out the d from the country where you find Calcutta etc)
for straight seafood, it's pretty much mccormick and schmick's anymore.
vidalia does to some lovely shrimp and catfish
Haz--got that one. Think it's the fifth one down--in 4/4
thanks, jmc and dc
Johnny's half shell 400 N Capital just above Union Station
mccormick? they have a branch in portland, don't they?
tg I f, the I in it
Hello dan2bit!How are you doing?Welcome to the grid
probably, ata
kaplan try refreshing
in4/4 - preposition
Congratulations periwinkle on fireworks! Good for U!
I will give her this informtion. thanks so much
jakes is mccormick I *think*
How interesting, one English study of children indicates that soy milk given to babies may be a cause of peanut allerg. Also peanut oil seed in nappy rrash creams. makes a lot of sense and would explain why the allergy is so common nowadays everywhere
Haz--got the preposition
Or the one before it is in plus first letters of Reagan's name.
most places have decent crab cakes here
3 in Portland, it says
got the Reagan one too.
ti 6/18??
that's fascinating, lyn
peanut oil is used instead of cotton seed oil which is a lighter oil that I cannot find up here and I miss
lone i on the right column?
in4/7 - abbreviation for knowledge?
ti 6/18 is plural of ti 5/10
JAYK!!! hairy nosed dolphin in+two vowels

OK, how about the 7/28 (to)
to7/28 - a weight and a fork prong
today was a "get er done" day. Shopped for the food for the month and went around the entire outside of the houses crawl space and sealed all the leaks and reinsallated the floor in the back of the house. It's cold dog gon it
well done, sue! GO you
the cold will get you going
to7 entered my vocabulary thanks to The Simpsons
in4/4 - coming from that tile on the far right. It's in plus two vowels, it means a hairy nosed dolphin. Have you got it down?
It's a real issue here too DC. All schools here now have to have those anaphylaxis(?) needle kits and have teachers trained in their use
my nephew's school prohibits all peanut products
all the schools in NC prohibit it also
none allowed in the school at all.
Haz--great clue for the 7/28. Still (STUPID) don't have the hairy nosed dolphin
same here DC
and if the kids have an alergy to any foods, there are special tables they can sit at
OKay, in4/4 , in plus two vowels. Think of the country of Delhi and Calcutta, take out the d.
