Douglas I think the monkeys need more than that with this grid
wow -- my monkeys found sy5!
wtg jilli's monkeys
What do you give your monkeys when they've done a superlative job?
No idea mine needs a poke

What is the 7's please
herin, we all need time out, as I said before good for both of you xx
Yep. Tommorrow study. Right now watching over the hedge which is so silly
g/dtr is laying on her bed watching over the hedge...dunno why as she has the dvd at home
i'm so bummed that 'dadgum' is not accepted
Because it is cute and one should watch it lots
douglas did you find the sy5...it is short for a musical term

poor crossie
oh good news though
my 6 month cancer check up is all clear!!
and today is the mrs birthday and i am taking her out for all the lobster and shrimp she can eat;))
great news - a double celebration!
indeed;))
it doesn't accept daggy! obviously isn't Australian
lol, some local slang will not work i am afraid:(
it is very,very american
Happy Birthday Crossie and congratulations
im surprised it take colour, arbour, theatre etc..lol even then it shows them as spelling errors in the chog
ty herin
not this end. don't you spell them like that in Canada
I am watching Over the Hedge
we do,and the britts do as well as some others
us and most of what they quaintly call "the colonists" hehe
Hey.
we do too. what language is your computer set to?
it is set for standard canadian spellings and a north american keyboard
my brother has it hard in costa rica,he has to replace his keyboards when he visits us because all the keyboards there are geared for spanish
I didn't realise keybords would be a different setting, just thought they could be adjusted for speed etc
one month he blew the "x" out on his keyboard and it was driving him nust because he was still 2 months away from a visit,so i had to teach him to use microsofts built in on screen emergency keyboard
nope,lots of annoying little differences
oh, you don't men lnguage, you mean different keys...duh!
BBL dinner
is there just one TH word and later Lynxx
looking herin...
Thanks
mm,seem like just one,but ive not listed yet
ok thank you any way
Crossie I have something sweet to tell uyou
crossy is all ears....
Every night after I cook b.f dinner he demands a kiss and says thank you for being fed
mmm House round the corner, 4 doors away, sold for $1,831,000 today
what a sweetie!
awww
He is. Wow that is insane Lynxx
(not renovated - spanish mission style)
that is nuts, but it happens here as well
crazy stuff - feel sorry for kids. A long way up the ladder even if you get on the bottom rung
Yep. Never be able to buy
here,a standard, run of the mill starter home is about 250,000
I remember a few years ago wanting to buy a warehouse shell in the city for $80,000
2 bed,1 bath nothing fancy
warehouse shell? gonna try to do it up like in the movie ghost? lol
they turned a warehouse shell into this great big one room open living space with a loft
no. and bad pun
avg price in Melbourne is now $540,000
Same warehouse shell sold recently for half a mil
Lynxx unless you want to live in a hell suburb
back again.... hello everyone!!!
yea, ever have to redo a leaky roof over that much square footage? it is not pretty
Hi CrossS.
howdy cross star
hi crosshair
Hell suburb - or out in the sticks needing 2 cars and travelling 2 hours day for work
Cross at the time my dad was working as a builder so that wasn't an issue
hi Cross Star
ive done the 2 hours to work thing, racks the hell out of 2 cars and the fuel bill is a killer
you would be as well being right in town and waiting tables, the take home ends up almost being the same lol
Lynxx you can probably imagine the suburbs I mean
brb
Yeah
15 grand for each car and 20 dollars a day for each car on gas
1200 a month on gas
lynx you are so nice for helping out w/ clues along w/ everyone else.
But young couples here can only afford the houses on new estates 'out there'
:((
yw Cross St, good to see you back
better living over a bowling alley in town and being 2 min away from work and no cars
ive done the math again and again, with fuel ove 1 dollar a litre/4 dollars a gallon, any job more than 20 min away from home is a no go unless you clear 50 grand a year
I agree. We were lucky in that there were unrenovated houses round when we started out so managed to get into the right suburb at a good price.
any good clues about this grid?
nice
have not done enough of it yet cross star
im only 25 words in
gu7 stuff you chew and dyna**** explodes
ty lynxx
pu** get sp**** when they are quite young

hi Ruby
hi lady and crossie and lynxxxx

how many words are there today??
that is so nice, crossie!
101
hi diann, 101
she is a shrimp fiend
101 Diann
does that mean she's short and demonic or just that she likes shrimp? lol
lol both!!
is that why she married you, Crossy?
Mr Crossie is it Mrs Crossies birthday or yours/
Hi everyone!
hi lawyer
its my better halfs b-day
Hi Lawyer. HI Brookie
howdy brookie
hi Brookie and Lawyer
hi brookie!
Well Happy Birthday Mrs Crossie
she married me cause i buy her seafood lol
Happy b-day to mrs. crosshair. Hi ruby, lynxxx, lawyer, herin!
she is still in the sack, still only 4;46 am here
hi, Ruby. herin, Lynnx and all of my fellow lurkers
wake her up and we'll all sing
lol,she would tear my face of and calmly go back to sleep
Seeing how we'd all be at a distance from the face-tearing event (everyone but you, that is), we certainly are still happy to "sing"!
:-)
Crossie she married you because you are awesome
she is at that magical age of 40,where life is over and you get stuff like this"do i look fat in this?" or "are gray hairs showing?" or the big one"do you think ill look as good as her in a dress like that?"
aww ty herin
40!!! I wish. It sounds very young to me
Just tell her she is perfect. The end (I told my friend the other day that his g.f is perfect and tell her so and taht her butt is now good for the grabbing
That's what we're supposed to do, cross! (As an almost-representative of that age.)
let me tell you,we are at defcon 1 estrogen overload here..not pretty
lol
I didn't even reach my peak until 45......
morning sandrafrances
How many words today please
Hand her a box of chocolate and a cry movie and tissues and go hide for a few hours
great idea, herin!
101 words
Loved my 40s, knew where I was at and what I was capable of
And never argue with her logic you will lose
Thanks
the 40's were brilliant!
lol,now it is me" sorry dear, have a headache" hehe may have to buy her more chocolate
hi Gran
60's arte downhill.....
Hi Gran
hi gran
Hi gran!
hi sandrafrances
rubbish Ruby - loving them
I do agree, I feel more at peace with myself now than I did in my 20s or early 30s.
My mum is 65 and dad 70 this year. My mum looks fab
not me, lol
You'll just have to get to the 70s then Ruby, leave the 60s behind
that sounds like a very good idea, lynxx
my da is 69 amd my m-i-l is 70 and my f-i-l is 79 all doing fine, though f-i-l is slowing down only goes to the pub 4 nights a week now lol
Grandpa dug out his own cellar when he retired
lol, grammy probably got tired of looking at him all day and locked him down there and he had to dig his way out lol
my husband has just called me on the phone 5 times (from upstairs), since I started playing. I'll be in jail for murder before I'm 70! lol
lol,let it got to the ansering machine hehe
answering
Not the case. Gandpa needed a cellar to store his wine and likely to get piece and quiet. Like teh shed isn't enough
I foresee phone fault developing in France
it's an internal system, at least I didn't have to go up 2 flights to see what he wanted. lol
Ruby is he ill?
Is the grid really hard today, or is our chat log so fun that I can't seem to concentrate on finding words? Probably the latter.
Both Brookie
it's a funny little grid
pretty hard Brookie
but the chat is more fun, anyway
they're all hard for me, but fun anyway
good lord, just peeked in on the mrs,she is snoring the paint off of the walls lol
and she calls ME bad for snoring!
lol Crossie you don't say things like that
Well at least you'll never need to invest in paint remover.
lol
sokay i even love her deviated septum
that's how Max snores; the walls tremble
since it has been so warm I am thinking of making an apple pie
do you do the fancy strips across?
we had rain yesterday for the first time since last october!!!
Wow Cross.
Whereabouts in Canada are you, crossy?
How here votes for apple pie and cupcakes?
but all that snow kept the ground from drying out, no?
well it has all been snow till now,we have had several mild days in the last 7 day period
apple pie with heavy cream for me!
I vote for apple pie heaped with ice cream
3 and a half hour drive north of toronto brookie on georgian bay
Well I am looknig at making one shortly complete with organice apples
and we are due for 3" of rain this weekend
Yeah, it's supposed to rain through Monday here.
we need rain or snow, it is very dry and cold now
we can see over the snowbanks while driving now;))
At least we can all catch up on the things we've been "saving for a rainy day"!
That's all we've had....rain and snow
back to warm here
I am def ready for warm!
nothing worse than coming to a four way stop and you can see the cars for snowbanks
I needed warm this week as mount washmore was getting too much
you have to creep out slowly
hahah
it's easy for me, the laundry room is next to the studio; I can just run in and out while playing
the washing basket pile was getting close to the laundry ceiling. Of course everyday things were washed but not the big stuff
shh dont say laundry..i have a pile staring at me...
laundry
accck!
I don't think my husband knows we have a laundry room
4 loads should do it though
we don't have a dryer.
I have a couple loads to do but not enough quarters to do them! And too lazy to drive out and make change somewhere!
el5.18 mournful poem - hasn't been in for ages
it would be impossible here without one, too cold
Brookie wash them by hand
dont need one there do you herin? dont you guys just go from warm to hot all the time?
We do in winter.
in the summer I put a rack outside
but not for the big stuff
Wash by hand?????
Thanks for the clue, lynxxxx!
I don't like them though. In winter I do use the laundry matt. Yes just the smalls Brookie
crossy has a old wash board and a big cake of sunlight bar soap if you need it brooke:)))
you stopped playing that then Cross?
yup,went to the kazoo
lol
Sure, crossy, I'll drive three and a half hours north of Toronto for that... oh wait, I don't have quarters for the U.S. tolls!
lol
That reminds me of my dad in choir - the shepards wash their socks at night sitting round a tub, God sent down a bar of sunlight soap and they began to scrub.
just get over the border brookie..we dont have tolls..yet
The lack of quarters is really cramping my style.
ill have breakfast waiting
I'll do my best, crossy. I'll just follow the snoring...
hehe
Aw, that's so sweet! Eggs benedict please, with extra hollandaise sauce.
o i just had a thought. I could raid the commercial kitchen recipe book himself made
see you later everybody, couldn't even reach half, but the chat was v enjyable!
Loves Ruby
omg, eggs benedict
bye Ruby
Have a great day, ruby! It's always nice to "see you"!
can you believe he just called me again????
Ruby is he il?
now he wants a Bloody Mary!!!
ugh never mind that crud..ill star with jumbo brown eggs over easy or maybe some soft boiled dippin eggs, hash browns with diced valencia sweet onions and herbs, some nice crispy maple and hickory bacon, some fresh squeezed oj and a stack of cruncy english muffins with apple jelly and some of the perked costa rican coffee my brother sent me
no excuse!
What is his drama Ruby?
OK... I'll be right there, crossy!
lol thought you might;))
Ruby, if there's something he wants, can he get it himself?
If anyone comes over here, I'll say, "There's some stale cereal in the pantry. Go get it yourself."
if i called that much and demanded a bloody mary my wife would tell me to go do several impossible anotomical things to myself
We just went shopping today. Brookie can you tell me what you have in the fridge?
What sort of ceral is it?
I have eggs (and yes I can make good eggs), and lots of jars of stuff that should be thrown out by now.
Rubys husband is a bit older than her and had heart issues late last year....oh yes...and is somewhat demanding
Actually, I'm exaggerating. I've run out of stale cereal. At least there's milk here for the kids.
lol
You got bread?
Rolls in freezer.
no bread?
Lynxxx, that explains a lot.
You go raisins?
this house comes to a grinding halt if there is not a variety of breakfast eats in the fridge and pantry
No raisins. But lots and lots and lots of chocolate, which I'll be bringing over for crossy to give to his wife.
we do not worry bout dinner much ,the main meal is breakfast..fill everyone up and kick them out the door
Ok. Have you got any dried fruit? Craisins or such?
eggs, bread, cinnamon = french toast
Herin, if you looked in my kitchen, you'd be appalled.
:( Lynxx stole my idea
Nada, nada, nada. But no exaggeration on the chocolate. There's an insane amount here.
Herin, all great Australian minds think alike.
mm reminds me,i better take a pond of bacon out of the freezer..brb..semi-poof
oops sorry Infernal (fruit?)
Brook nothing is that bad you have food in there trust me. I am good at apocalyptic cooking.
Oh, I'm okay with the situation. Plus it's just temporary. No biggie.
Lynxx you can sneak fruit into french toast for kids to eat
http://tinyurl.com/1v4z Brookie I like this site
That's awesome, herin! Just added it to "My favorites" on Internet Explorer.
Thanks so much!
http://www.mealopedia.com/ this is another fav and www.taste.com.au. I use the recipes from Super Food Ideas and Australia GOod taste. No frills no b.s ingrediants you would not have.
eww brookie, get firefox or google chrome and dump exploer
Chrome isn't compatible with some sites
ff is with 99% of sites
my brother uses chrome, but he says good things
Hay Cross, how long has Firefox had the translation thing?
Brookie I love to cook what can I say
I use chrome but it isn't compatible with some sites
ive used ff for 6 years so at least 4 of them
Please explain about chrome and firefox... I'm clearly behind the times.
they are alternate browser choice brookie
Same as Internet but better. Stick with IE Brookie if that is what you are good at
Any help with the U would be brillant
but i hear i.e now has tabbed browsing, thats what drove me to ff long ago
Firefox is nice (and free)
very nice,ff saves me looking at pop ups as well and it has many plug ins
up4.6 (bbblet) & up6.30
thanks for the cooking and internet tips, everyone! gotta try to get some sleep now. have a great day everyone!
Cheers
bye Brookie

i have alex haileys 'roots" lined up for her next as she has never read it
I like Kelley Armstrong for odd things and Carrie Vaughn for werewolves. Steer clear of Kerri Arthur.
ge6.... you ge*** out of bed
I have to say about The Eternal Kiss cos my best friend has a story in it LOL. But actually, it *is* a very good anthology
that is a 5
add a letter
O my gosh thank you sorry I am a little dense
cant spell this morn
your not dense look at me,i cannot see it for the life of me
not a drama I can't think
SQUEEL on that book Ata has my fav author on it. Win win all round
lol@ squeel
hi all
though i see king has a new mammoth book out called under the dome that has me interested
Spriteee
looks like a light read of 2000 pages or so lol
Cross I call him Mr Waffleon Pants
howdy sprite
dont get it,must be a local thing what are waffleon pants?
Because King prattles on about shtuff
some kind of teflon?
ALso this sounds like a rip of Joe S lansdale
lol,he does go on sometimes
not long finished the dome and rally enjoyed it
really
not to worry mari,i read typoneeze and it never even registered
and on and on and on.
The premise remind me of Lansdales At the drive in
i like a book with meat to it,depth.i dont care for 150 page wonders, unless they are in a short story collection
I started reading War and Peace ten years ago... even after thirty pages the plot remains intriguing
lol i only read w=p once, listening to 75 pages of a dress description was not fun
hey BabbleRabble, glad to see you.
Done too. Hi Babble
had to read W&P for school. omg.
hey Ata. Have you seen my beer bottle yet?
o my I low and behold moved the cat
for school?? omg? ok students and welcome to english 101 our first terst is on war and peace, read it and the test is 3 months from today
lol
when I was 14ish. It was boring.
we had moby dick, animal farm and lord of the flies
Right I am done staring at this thing
yaa for herin:)
I had
gratz lady
we had W&P, Romeo and Juliet (with the rude bits blacked out). the Cherry Orchard. Scoop. Can't remember the rest lol
David and Ann Meet a Colony of Ants
Right o love you all but I am falling asleep
i am of the thought that if you are to read classic books, they should be read as written or not at all.censors be dammed
sleep well lady
it shows the thoughts and customs of the time and enhances the book
and in math, after we studied three, we metaphor
Take care Sprite
oh ditto! but our English teacher was a very elegant, genteel lady who couldn't cope with mentions of bosoms LOL
thanks hun :)
oooo! beer bottles! coool!
yep
for example all the epic disaster books of the 60,s alway have some rugged guy always lighting 2 cigarettes at a time, one for him and one for the heroine
and of course if a character is not white,it is pointed out again and again
especially U.S authors of the time
oh yes. I think these things are important to keep
and turn of the century books are amazing
a friend was doing a play in the west end a few years back, adn it was a period piece, and none of the actors were allowed to smoke even though the characters all smoked madly. it was very silly
octamaroons and quadroons etc
beer bottles are important to keep? I could have a backyard beach if I melted the glass down
if you have to read it or act it,be true to the original
unless it is harmfull to your health
or do something completely different, like modern versions of Shakespeare. Don't just gloss over bits
Of course this year's flood would wash it away.
and tea is good in china br;))
but anyhoo,i should try to find a word or 2 here
No doubt ... I expect the exporting floodwater to China is an idea worth pursuing
crossy looks out the window..see,s no floodwater
good morning - waking up to a discussion of classic books! how interesting - did I see someone mention war and peace earlier? the greatest reading experience of my life!
I wonder why people see fit to imply I lie: http://tinyurl.com/yfor5xb
hi JBV
Hope you feel better soon, sprite .... time for me to move on
I fell in love with TOlstoy last summer - the man was a genius.
thanks BabbleRabble, all the best to you too
I loved about half of it
JBV, what captured you about the book?
so much, sprite - each character was developed so you felt you knew each person - the physical descriptions of setting, even the battlefield scenes, you felt as if you were there
never read it and am wondering if I should. Definitely worth giving it a try, if I see your reactions :)
well he did go into agonizing detail
there were two scenes in particular that were very moving - the death of Prince Andrei, very moving, as he lingers and finally expires, I felt as if I could feel his every breath
he wrote beautifully. Utterly beautifully. If rather over-long-ly at times!
crossy, like Umberto Eco?
it must be read in quiet times with no distractions
I can skim-read if necessary :)
and one funny one - the description of the birth of a baby from the father's perspective - the mother of course is undergoing agony, but the father is slowly going crazy and frantic with worry - reminded me of the scene in I Love Lucy where Fred and Ethel and RIcky leave for the hospital without Lucy
no, umberto eco is detail-less compared to tolstoy!
yes I agree, crossy, I read it during the summer - when I had long peaceful stretches of time to immerse myself in the 19th century
ok then it is bad. But still worth a try.
lol yes I remember that scene.
(but I do utterly adore Umberto Eco, I must say)
Has anyone posted today's stats uet? and Guten Morgen one and all
morgen inge
and I do not agree that it should be assigned to high schoolers - I think I needed my full life experience to really appreciate it
so do I, marvellous books. Some scenes could do with a bit of pruning, but the guy is a genius. Brilliant plots.
Umberto Eco is a semiotician - so I was introduced to him through my study of linguistics, then discovered his amazing novels
l
Foucault's Pendulum was one of those utterly seminal books for me growing-up
LORI
I was impressed when I saw that in the movie they changed the opening scene with the deduction of the lost horse into the deduction of where the loo was. Very consistent with the behavioural approach.
hi lory
typo guppy needed. Hi LoriP
looked up seminal and was a bit surprised until I found a meaning that fitted.
good morning Babblers :)
lol sorry!
hi Nanette
why sorry, I learned something new. More than one even, because the first meaning was definitely not something you'd do with a book ;)
lol yes, it's an odd word ... even I thought after I posted it and wondered for a moment if I'd said something very silly LOL
lol as far as I could see it was exactly what you meant to say. Just struck me as funny at first. Dutch girl with a dirty mind ;)
there must be some strange etymologies in there somewhere!
one of the things I love about language.
absolutely
fireflies. Not so easy today, is it?
noooooooo
must love and leave you, have fun all!
take care sprite
Good morning/day, my friends.
scrabs!
i leave for 3 minutes and you girls have body fluids flying around lol seminal
scwabby
;))
Ata---300 seems to be working its magic now.
better watch this group scwabby...
Good morning, can't do the grid now, but it looks challenging at first glance. True?
it has teeth
dadgum doesn't count :(
Crossy, my Firefox problem was back the next day and I am still trying to solve it.
and I'll be pulling them again.
Hi Mudd. I just started.
:(( poor scwabby
Hi Hursh. How is your husband?
bbl
I have found 6 words and see no more
he had the surgery on thurs. it went well. he was in a bit more pain than after the other one, so they kept him last night as well to help manage his pain. i expect to pick him up today, though. then we just wait for the results of what it was they removed (do you know how long they usually take to tell you that sort of thing?)
Perhaps a week for the doc to get the pathology report. Maybe sooner.
well, that's pretty much it.
what happened to hubby hurshy/
uggg only got a few words!
hurshy - hope it's all good news, thinking about you
This is tough, Lynn.
Hi Bo
hi Scrabbs
nothing happened exactly. he had his gall bladder out in november and they saw a spot on his kidney during a scan, and they did lots more scans later but couldn't tell what it was so they decided to just take it out (it was only 1.4 cm) and see.
they come back pretty fast results on that sort of thing
they were able to do it laproscopically, which they also did with the gall bladder.
oh good;0 not a great big cut then
hope Tucker is still doing well
The tissue has probably already been looked at but it takes time for the steps--dictation, transcription, then in mail to doc.
hello all just popping in for a bit before going to grandmothers B-day. How is the grid today?
Tucker is finally all better. I am so relieved as a week ago I thought I might lose him.
Hi 60
This grid is very tough.
Hurshy hope all goes well. Should get results in about a week. Thats how long mine took.
thanks
pupu platters don't count :(
Tough grid well will settle to get as much as I can then.
I've got 41 but nothing over 5 letters
morning everyone
Hi Jean--good for you.
34 here and only 1 6 letter
hi scrabs
Hi Mom
HI Scrabbler
da 6 and da 7...use those g,s
great clue crossy
are they normal words?
archaic - from 1510-1520 - normal? probably not
thanks Crossy
I don't get it
that's the beginning of Henry VIII's reign. how can a word only last for 10 years? even his first wife lasted longer than that.
np mom:)
SOUNDS LIKE A GROUP OF GEESE SCWABBS
oops sorry caps
lol - think that is the time of origination, not necessarily use
oh you probably meant OR

name that proper noun! where the greeks had the oracle that told oedipus what would happen to him
delphi
delphi
ding ding ding!
cookie please
i don't have cookies, i have dings
Greek mythology is one area I know nothing about...literature, history are others.
hmmph
I'd demand cookies
I tried, didn't I?
good morning babblers!
name that proper noun of a chewy candy
try harder! demand! dings are unacceptable!
20 words. Woo hoo. I need a break. This grid is hurting my brain.
if you want cookies, just go to the PB, i am sure there are some there
howdy jbv
this grid is like having root canal
hi again crossy
chewy candy... chewy candy...
oh, do you mean Gummi?
give that lady a stale oreo!
name that sound!
lol
i know! soulds like a mongoose, falling in a mud puddle in borneo whilst eating a guava friut
noooooo

the sound in the grid!
oh in the grid...i see...

crossy trudges off to the pb to put the kettle on
nobody knows any sounds? shame on you all! Puget Sound!!! :P
lol got one..one word ever 15 min now;(
ohhhh a Sound! i thought you just meant a sound and were being silly cause that could be anything, like ugg or whatever
*rolls eyes*
exactly
as did i
Sound not sound
well why didn't you capitalize it or say "proper sound!"
of course you did. that's what makes it amusing LOL
because I was being cryptic
so, what animal makes the sound, puget?
you are as much of an imp as torgone!
the puget frog!
if a tree fell in the sound, would it make a sound or be a sound?
it would be a splash
If a sound fell in the forest, would it make a tree?
it would be a very wet forest
i think a doggie embryo should be called a puplet.
there's an elephunt...
a oliaphaunt?
lol
shh, those creep ata out
nooooooo
is hephalump safe, ata?
just about. just dont' mention their hairiness
:-D
hefalumps and woozles
pink elephants on parade;)
pink elephants would be quite hairless, I would think
I would hope so
If I found half of the words, do I say "fire" and then say "works" when I find the other half?
whatever floats your boat
The Sound floats my boat.
i love conversations that circle back around
eleoahnts in boats in the sound?
Hello all!
Sounds good to me!
did not know they could use a row boat
howdy nonnie
crossy! I hope all is well with you and yours.
indeed nonnie: the wife get a red lobster dinner for her b-day today
Good morning Nonnie
i have a problem with red lobster
emmmmm lobster and Happy Birthday to Mrs. Crossy!
Happy Birthday to Elegant!!
Hello Mom! How are you?
Happy Birthday, Elegant
what color lobster do you like, hurshy?
Just fine Nonnie, how are you?
I am fine. We poured the slab for the shop so we're one step closer to moving to the country :o)
i like red lobsters and Red Lobster ... that is the problem. i can't control myself when i eat there and i end up so full i can't sit up. it's called red-lobster-full.
people ask if i'm full other times and i say, well, not red-lobster-full or anything
oh Nonnie, that is wonderful news
Thank you, Mom.
Does anyone have a clue for the lower right E...nbt for me if you do!
a poem of mourning
yes, nonnie, it's that silly babblet for K-12 education
I have worked in the education field for almost 40 years and I have NEVER heard anyone use that term
Thank you JBV...looking.
oops, I think that is from the other E
um... i think mine is the proper clue
and thanks hurshy
trying to figure out yours now!
oops hurshy, I missed what you had said. Thank you.
it's a combination of the beginning two syllables from K-6 and 7-12 schools
oh, aha and thanks back
thanks JBV
Hello again. I played my other word games and will try this toug grid again.
I got them both. Thanks you two.
i have the supreme court up6 the lower court's decision... anyone got the other U?

Rainy weekend

TY, Mom. I needed that last vowel to mak e it work. I thought it was gu6

hello everybody
you're welcome Scrabbler
very hard grid, only have 46 words
Hi ruby

Hello Ruby and Feather
We have tons of snow so there are flood alerts.
I lurked for a minute and got a couple of words
i need 5 more words to reach halfway. have daniel looking over my shoulder, suggesting words such as "volcano"

you're welcome Featherbee

off to take care of the kids, who have been more or less patiently waiting for me
so good to see you again, Featherbee. Have a good day
Bye Feather
I will not go back to bed. I have laundry in the dryer, will have breakfast soon, and begin a housecleaning assault...maybe on that last part.
housecleaning can always wait until tomorrow.
hi all
Hi Owl
Hi TO
hi scrabs hi mom! anyone have a spare ark? :(
oh no TO, lots of rain?
and all that melting snow
I saw the weather report and the radar map--rain across the northeast
snow has melted . ground is saturated. another nor'easter. if it were snow it would be another 2+ feet
If it stops raining, and maybe it has now as it is brighter outside, I may try to snowshoe in the woods. I am sad that my winter sport season is coming to an end.
oh my gosh, I am thankful for you that is isn't
yes Scrabbler, but kyaking is right around the corner
snow would be better if gradual thaw. flooding is a certainty
with 60 down, I must go, many things to do today. I have enjoyed the company and the chat. {{Hugs}} to all of you
Yep, my kayaking buddy and I walked/hiked for 2 hrs yesterday and saw the rushing creek in her village and talked about kayaking. Also, we are planning kayaking trips.

wtg ursh !
boring sounds good to me!
yay ursh!
it is. until it's boring LOL
had some "uncalm" days did you ata ?
I thought edda was a good word -- icelandic epic, not capitalized!
had a really mad few weeks, and then regretted it - I had swine flu very badly last autumn, and am continually still feeling like crap after overdoing things
I was hoping for edda too
and delpht!
ahhh - the people I know who caught it all said it took a lot outta them... a while to recuperate...
yep! it really seems to be the case. but this was 5 months ago now, and I'm getting really quite fed up of it!!
understandable...I guess you have to avoid those "mad weeks"..."sigh"...
montreal!!!!! *faint* ****hugs**** *faint*
hey all!
hey montreal, how about guelph?
I'm really trying. I just haven't succeeded very well recently
hi stiddy!!!

*joins in raptures of having Luc here*
Tom just brought me breakfast in bed (luxury!) back soon.
tried Guelph ruby... to no avail of course...
brb
such a lovely word, though
59 words and have hit the wall
ata, if you are really bored and feel like doing me a service, please change my icon to one of the other photos (Max, flowers, other one of Ruby) as I am sick of looking at it and can't, for the life of me, get it to work
back - wanted to thank stid for such an ecstatic entry but she's left... tx again ata but don't get too excited: you must conserve your energy...
hi all

I think my format is wrong and I don't know how to change it
hi cagey
I hear you jmc...
Hi, has anyone got a clue for the LE5/14 & 6/24, please?
hi liz, don't have 'em yet...
they were asking if I believed married between one man and one woman should be legal in DC yes or no answer only
that's not enough choices
and yes that should be legal but so should married between one man and one man
and what do they have against polyandry anyway?
and between one woman and one woman
I stand firmly against bigamy!!!
between 1 man and 2 women ?
hi all. jmc, I hope the question included the word 'only', because marriage between one man and one woman is already legal in DC.
lol
oh you know same sex marriages just became legal in DC
But I agree with you :)
I think a communal househole would be interesting
yes I heard jmc..
household, sorry*
ruby - go into your profile, click on the pic and don't change anything, just press ok, and come back into babble
bon jour montreal! comment ca va? I just finished my quarter yesterday, and SLEPT IN! (luxury) and not doing anything but filling out applications today (more luxury)
not of course they would include "only" cause then they couldn't trick anyone into saying that
number one wife, number 2 wife, etc.
hey ch! hey jmc!
okay, show of hands .. how many of us lived in communes during the 60's-70's? (Sheepishly raises hand)
hey stiddie

you're right, jmc, I was being facetious... :(
that's the cute guy in your icon, jmc?
Please can someone put me out of my misery and give me a clue for my last two...EL5/14 & 6/24 ?
Honestly? I think love is too big for our limited cultural norms and monotheistic religious traditions. I personally embrace my marriage to my beloved husband, but I believe Love embraces all.
hi everybody - Jacula's profile also has a list - couldn't have finished without it
yepper stiddie
LOL I have given up on finishing nowadays, I just like to get to halfway

I'm with you, stid ... I let go of 'finishing' long ago! :D
hi crossy
howdy jmc
that's how I feel, stid. FM et al brought me to fireworks one day on a small grid but that was enough. I've stopped looking at my ranking
how is everybody? I am experiencing culture (and weather) shock - just got back from Puerto Rico - it was 89 degrees there!

I am getting lots of rest. in fact, it's perfect timing... I just picked up a new vide game, so it's a great excuse to just sequester myself, and take it easy, playing that. ;)
*fuss fuss*
:-D well, I am down to 30 words. going to get some rest myself, and then wander around picking up a few things around the house. Will really push clean-up tomorrow. Today I am a princess...

hi all - you can get the list on babblers anonymous
not that it is helping me much
Is it a toughie today Mom?
Without Lickety, Babble is not worth living.
oh my
its not the easiest one I have had - I seriously need lickety - had to print the list from anonymous so just started working it - got 29 left
Oh c'mon Kaplan babble existed long before lickety but I have to admit his list is useful.

*sigh* not working, I have the letter word, need the one after.
It was the first bizarre habit I discovered upon moving in with him. Shocking, shocking ;)
NB, I grew up believing that if you used more than a dime-sized amount of shampoo it was a waste of money. I've never been able to break that up-bringing; (I nearly hear voices saying I'm wasteful if I pour out a nickel-sized amount!)
stid al vowel and think of another way to pronounce the f
I have very long hair at times, and that amount of shampoo would never work.
that's the one I have Joanne, it's al 5/14.

la6/33 - tarried behind
So, what's up, Ata?
thank you vi
drawing Laurelin and Telperion. the usual!
lol Cool.
trying to decide whether squirrels lived in the Two Trees. Important question!!
Hmmm... I'd have to think carefully about that one.
we're having a big debate about it at the moment. Were the Two Trees pristine and holy? Or did they have birds adn squirrels adn caterpillars and and and!
Right. They certainly get described as pure and holy... but also as life-giving, which is hard to picture without, well, life...
exactly .... *is perturbed*
I hate being able to perfectly justify both sides of an argument!
But I'm thinking I'd say they had butterflies, pretty birds, stuff like that, but not squirrels, ugly bugs, etc. In other words, life, but only fancy life! lol
*grins* that's being elitist!!
Yep. you think Tolkein wasn't?
or pretty-ist, or something
and he loved nature, I can't see him liking a tree without life in it. But he was also Catholic, and the Trees were very much a vision of purity and idealism
any help on the sy?
sorry, mom! I totally hijacked Vi's attention
How many letters, Momneeds?
sy5/16
looking...
sy5 - short form for something artificial
Ah, thanks, Ata.
thats OK Atalante - it is fun to chat too
Keep those requests coming, Momneeds. At this point they're the only way I'm going to get my remaining words!
makes a change from the normal sysop
Im just getting so close to the end I cant wait......
I'll help you too - still working on that one
Besides, the pretty-ist solution would make for pretty art.
Even if some of the other critters would be more fun to do.
lol yes. and I'm sure I'll go along those lines. It's just a really really interesting question to consider. I really don't know the right answer, if there even is a right answer
I'm sure some little green caterpillars will appear. and butterflies
Well, by "right answer" you have to decide whether you're trying to fathom what Tolkein imagined, or trying to come up with your own sort of "theology" of what it should have been like.
I am so dragging here.
I always like to at least think that Tolkien wouldn't be horrified by anything I drew of his world ...
I usually try and at least start with his concepts and his drawings if I want a reference
As a writer, I always applaud people who try to refrain from desecrating an author's vision! It drives me bonkers when movies claim to be based on a book and then have nothing to do with it but the names.
I think I have such respect and love for Tolkien's vision that I always want to create something he would love. It's always the best praise when someone comes along ans says "you know, I really think Tolkien would have loved that"
Absolutely.
and he was much more broad-minded than one might think about fan art. He loved some of the really surreal 1970s Cor Blok art (look him up, weird and wonderful!). But whatever style, I think it's only right to do something the author would approve of. It's their world we're all playing in
still
still struggling on that sy - sorry just couldnt get that clue
86 words and I am clawing
an electric keyboard is a sy***esizer
down to 3 - what do you need help with
synthe
Oh yeah, I've seen those illustrations.
thanks atalante
Tolkien *loved* them. He bought quite a few for his own home
The phantoms are utterly overrunning my poor ad5-d mind at this point.

Hi Kaplan the Magne! How are ya? I have list in profile
I'm fine. I am too lazy to open yr list.
Hello, nice to see folks. Here to do a few words.
Hello stidgmere! How are you? Welcome to the puzzle
Hi, min I am fine after a day in the big city looking at the exhibits in some art galleries. I could be an artist, I at least could do as well as some the work we saw today.
What big city are you in?
We went to Seattle.
The question about the art is not COULD you do as well, but WOULD you. Audacity- or creativity- counts for much.
Where are you usually?
Well, they were pretty audacious to put some of the work in a gallery since I have seen children who have better ideas and better techniques.
Chutzpah.
stidgmere, if ever you visit the Nat'l Gallery of Art Washington, may i suggest you stick to the West building mostly? Aside from the Matisse cut-outs and the Calder mobile in the lobby, i'm guessing most of the East building would not appeal to you.
Hello dcseain! How are you doing?Welcome to the grid
hello, munver, kaplan, stidgmere, et al.
er, minver :)
Well, I don't mind seeing good recent art. The Bourbourg in Paris is a favorite museum (even when it is spelled right.)
ah, in which case, i would still suggest the Hirshorn over the East Build of NGA generally
I have been looking at maps of the Mall lately and noticed the Hirshorn--a round building, I think. Does it spiral up on the inside?
if memory serves, no
i recall discreet floors
looping from elevator around
Well, I think the Museum inNYC has the spiral form--Wright's architecture.
there are sculptures around the inside of the O on each floor, and galleries around the outside.
yes, that is corroct, stidge, that one is a spiral
the sculpture gardens at both NGA and the Hirshhorn are lovely
i miss living on Capitol Hill and being able to walk down to the Mall
But today we went to art galleries and they all have different personalities.
da6/24....clue please, not the geese one, please
Cities certainly have their plusses but I have to admit I like my home best of all--as all people should.
agreed, stidgmere

hey gang,anyone seen Met today?
heh
why are they picketing your hs dc?
is your HS the one that cancelled prom?
and all of your sides are lovely ru
no that was in the midwest
Seemed a little reactionary...
Seemed a little reactionary...
acts of desperate people who are losing their battle
just like when integration got going
no, Red, we're a good bit more progressive than Alabama up here.
lots of schools canceled their proms to avoid Blacks attending
My HS has had openly gay students there since at least 1990.
are all the S words sp?
so true, jmc
We learned about that in School, JMC, but none of it of course seems at all real as I grew up really post civil rights...
I know -- I can always shock my staff by talking about pre-integration
The HS i attended was old enough to have different sets of bathroom facilities, gymnasiums, and locker rooms.
all the ones I have so far jmc are sp, I am lacking one.
that is good news as i am lacking 2
Well, if they watch the PBS series on the Civil rightsmovement the footage is absoloutley appalling to someone of my generation...
there were still the old separate water fountains at all bu the MS i attended, too.
not labelled by then, but the teachers and parents made sure we understood why they were there and like that.
none of that for me, absoloutely no vestigaes of the civil rights battle by the time I went off to kinderg.
Disney Firworks very loud tonihgt....
most recent shock story for my staff -- smoking in movie theaters and coming in at the middle of a movie then staying to "this is where we came in"
where'd you grow up, red, if i may ask?
low cloud ceiling?
Pennsylvania.
Fireworks upsetting the dog.....oh no...
ah, yes, it was not there like in MD and to the SW at all.
poor doggy.
I am trying to get him to chew it out on a bone....
probably depends where in PA you grew up
Yes, where I am from , I think actually there just were not African Americans, literally....
Philadelphia, was a mess, I understand.
LBJ described PA as Phillie on one end, Pittsburg on the other and Alabama in the middle
hey now, I am from that Alabama part. it isnt that bad.
Pittsburgh is a shadow of its former self
and not for the better
hmmm i am down to one s word too
Well, I have 44 left. I may quit.
but maybe not...
I actually like all the Mennonites in the middle and I LOVE knoebels
Pre-integration, the county i live in had no HS for coloreds, and the elementary and middle school opened only the year before.
Harrisburg is a terrific town to visit
Mennonites are what I would term, "good people" they have been excellent kind neighbours.
I just got 1/2 way
mostly -- they are hurting financially right now
Mennonits built my cousin's house in OH - excellent quality construction.
Mennos? Not Bruderhofs?
Amish maybe?
building the house? The crew was mennonite-lead mixed with amish
ah
there are intermingled populations of both in that part of OH east of Columbus
i had a bruderhof rebuild my bathroom and except when he was stoned on weed he did a great job
Oh man, someone just reminded me that it is Daylight savings time, so losing an hour of sleep tonight too....this day could not really get worse, except of course it could.
never heard of bruderhof, will have to read about them - another anabaptist group, i gather?
think I will have a cookie and toddle off to bed, good night all and thanks for the nice conversation.....uch nicer than works.
poor red!
sweet dreams, red
good night red
I am hoping tomorro is a slight bit better.
i hope tomorrow is awash with joy for you red

Our clocks don't go forward for another 2 weeks. The origin is yet again farming related. I remember they tried not doing it here in UK some years ago and it did not go well. In WW2 they operated double daylight saving.
no high kicks adhd?
tore my sartorius last time
double daylight savings?
A pu 5/16 word is plural of the pu 4/7 word jmcnrick.

flosey, my DIL has mental health issues, They live across town (about 35 miles away) but I only get to see him when she's in a good mood
ah Nef, sorry to hear that, must be difficult with a young child
she's been a wonderful mother (and I keep telling her that); but she's suspicious of me and has all sorts of deluions about our family (she's bipolar)
great dinner, flosey, and great icon and two great people sitting here :)
oh dear, Nef, poor girl - and hard on everyone concerned
that's wonderful Jilli, so glad they've come to visit
