hi flosey
ot8
also ec 7
OT 7
yeah, ec7/ot7 pluralized
am 6
grem my OT 7 is not a plural
am6/7
but my OT 8 is
and it's not pluralizable?
think that's what he said
phant ectomere
i meant the OT 7 i found becomes a plural which would make it an 8
that's what I said first
ce7, have all 7s now
got the ot, but can't find that co -- is it another medical term?
am 6 x 2
co7?
think drugs nan
CO 6/7
is drugs
only one I know that starts with co is codeine
illegal with a diff sp
illegal drug
change some middle letters there
Ri 6
morphine bill and co6 sue were walking down the avenue...
phant cocinera
ya snort it nan
I am still one 7 short
have re7?
am7?
missing the re ty
sorry -- not up on the drug scene!
watch the news?
Hmm, this grid doesn't have 457 words...curious. Hello everyone
was an Eric Clapton song too nan
cyber its white and powdery you sniff it
hi doug
ok -- found one that I think is snorted but it is only 6 letters, not 8
plural it
nan, this one's been around for ages -- think Sherlock Holmes
nan we were not talking about a co 8... but a co 7
cyber theone i have is 6/7
not an 8
when I plural it that gives me 7 not 8
take off last vowel
hello all
oh ok
hello Barb
ty then -- found the one you were talking about
hi barb
yw
how is everyone?
think I need to walk away from this for a bit -- not seeing any of these 7's nor the other 8 (ec I think)
great thanks Barb, you?
fine ty and you?
ca 6
barb, is that you on the horse? Bareback, I see.
alright thanks...it was hard waiting for the new one to come up
yes Jill
Back before I had my fall...now I always have a saddle
handsome pair, barb!
welcome to prohood, barb!
ddi someone say a RE 7 or 8?
thanks you would like my other one too I am sure..he is a black with two white spots on either side. When the saddle is on my husband says it looks like we rubbed off the paint
my phan reearns
Thank you jill
re7, mlf
thanks grem
is it a word i should know?
grem?
Hello jilli
yeah

to 6
is that hyphened nan?
LOL good one Cybernan
midfield works
maybe mid-ice
RE 6/7
She don't lie, she don't lie, she don't lie....co6
was joking guys -- not a hockey fan although you'd never know it after all the comments by reporters during the olympics saying that hockey is canada's religion
can someone give me the stats for the E top left corner please?
ed 5/14
thanks grem
cyber i am ont a maple leaf fan as most think lol
So the accord against cluing before 1:00 has collapsed?
there's never been such an accord since I started playing here
py 6 x 2
gremi its a rule made by some babblers i guess that we dont clue until 2am
nice finds dee
I hope it has collapsed
I seem to be behind the times, then...never mind
till one hour into the puzzle....many diff time zones here
today it's the 5s and 6s that are harder to find
mlf, there have been objections to that "rule"
i didn't know that mlfan17
you are right cdar one hour into it apparently
and it does seem to depend on who is in!
sorry doug
you didnt know what barb's.. about the cluing or my screenname?ll
lol
about the clueing
barb's ohhh yeah i learned earlier on about it
well now I know hope I don't forget
phant coccoids
we usually don't give clues for the first hour -- not a hard and fast rule, especially when the grid is small, but a courtesy for those that don't want clues during the first hour that has been practiced since I started playing 4-1/2 years ago
oh please don't resurrect that "rule"
when I don't want clues, I usually just switch to one of the other two tabs
jill the first hour rule?
It is just hard to know all the in's and out's when you are new like me.
of course grem, anyone can do that if they don't want clues
exactly, grem -- you can switch off the chat if you don't want clues
MRP doesn't abide by that 'rule'
agreed
yes, mlf
hear hear flosey
I just feel very priveledged to be a member and still wonder who arranged it for me
amen to that jili and grem
jill from a distance your icon looks like a small jail cell but i i know its wine bottles
maybe you have a secret admirer
maybe you never know or someone just decide to be very nice indeed and I greatly appreciate it
I wanted people to wonder what this icon was, so that they would click on it and read about it <wicked laugh>
at first glance I thot it was a candlelabra
it is an interesting story jilli
looks interesting
jill i didnt read it i just know you have the icon everytime so i read that part lol
yeah the icon look 3d
well, mlf, read about ice wine!
we were near that winery this past summer jilli...didnt have time to stop though
too bad, dart!
love your little kitty dart
Interesting Jill, but you don't have to go as far as ON for ice wine -- the best in the world is made right here in the Okanagan Valley -- not that I stock any because it costs $80 to $120 for a split
one of the parking meters in niagara by the lake ate my credit card..spent an extra hour and a half trying to get it back
ty flosey
very cute kitty dart
I know, nan, but I didn't find a bottle or a writeup
that's an awful waste of holiday time dart
brb
thx barb :)
How annoying, dart!
Most of the wineries here make it, but the most expensive is made by Summerhill
was pretty frustrating trying to track down someone late in the day who could get it out of the meter
help with i in the 2nd column for nbt please
actually, nan, I hear that the best icewine in the world is still the German Riesling Eiswein
i someone who brings cold stuff to your door
ty nbt
ty, dart -- the one who cometh, eh?
wtg dee
yep lol
I hate to say it but gone for now. Too sleepy and sore wish I could get more than 4 hours sleep at one time...but it is great to have people to talk to when your up late. Night all
ty
Jillibus, another great icon/write-up.
lol, I remember when that truck use to come around
Didn't George Gervin have that nickname during his basketball career
nite barb
oh question...do you need to ask people before you add them as friends?
no, you don't barb -- and hope you can sleep well
Hello
Thank you Jill I will try very hard May I add you on my list?
yes douglas
The bottle of wine i have in my profile pic is called Rock Rabbit i dont have a synopsis
spent two weeks in Germany last fall and never did find a wine that didn't taste like battery acid
Absolutely, barb, and I just added you :)
just have to figure how to do that
but my pic isnt showing up lol
ra 6
but did you try an icewine, nan?
Thank you Jill
bard, add grem too so that you can get his list when he makes one -- and sprite so you can get the icon themes
no -- didn't see any. I did try a late harvest, though -- had an oily bitter aftertaste
hmm
that's barb
how do I add?
those were Rielsings, I assume, nan?
go tit
got it
oops
Okay i am out of here 106 left poof
barb, go to who's online and just add the ones you want
yes -- we were in the reisling producing area
okay thank you I will try that thanks..Cybernan could I add you too?
I understand Riesling is *supposed* to have a whiff of diesel
yes, of course barb
barb, you don't have to ask permission
unfortunately, sprite is not online just now
oh right. sorry
okay I will look for sprite tomorrow
don't see gremlinn here -- has he finished already?
Got the bottom row grayed...whoo-hoo! Didn't hurt that there's a 7 and 8 down there
gremlinn is online -- buried in the grid maybe
not yet
barb, sprite is in the Netherlands so she may be on tomorrow morning or early afternoon
but almost, I'd bet
hi grem ;)
half way and still have a bunch of bt's
go nan
and still don't see grem's ec 8
okay off to bed night again..I am really going this time
goodnight Barb, sweet dreams

i'm still missing 2 e's from the second column
I think this grid is full of odd words -- 3 more and that will be it for tonight

So Ares is in but Eris is out, eh? She doesn't rate? We've already had this discussion, haven't we?
I don't remember it, doug
A discussion about which gods get to be in the dictionary
I see Eris is the goddess of contention...
I think there's another meaning for ares
flosey, are you there?
It's my understanding that Eris was part of Ares's entourage (quite reasonable, actually)
yes, jilli, still plodding along
do you watch CTV news, flosey? With Tamara doing the weather?
Wanting there to be a word in the grid ending with "iome," but thinking there isn't one
think you're right, doug
seldom do jilli - mainly because the tv is downstairs
well, I think our weather girl is preggers again
I should get a small one for the office but it's pretty crowded now
ah, so she'll be off for a bit
It's still St Pat's day here, so I had to try erin again, with the same negative result
hubby won't have one in the livingroom
lol
What's wrong with a pregnant weather girl? Pregnancy is beautiful
yes it is, Douglas, as long as preg. lady is well and happy
It's funny watching Tamara -- some time ago I thought she might be preggers but now I'm pretty sure, and she's being careful not to turn sideways when she shows the map etc
lol, that will get to be difficult
**that will become difficult
nothing at all wrong with it, doug -- last time she stayed on until almost the last day
wow, good for her
and she is a real beauty anyway
it's just fun guessing
oh, I'm well over halfway!
good for you jilli
still plodding here, 106
trying to remember all the things I should be doing, buying, while in Victoria tomorrow
Wow this is really hard
good evening Chopramen
Good Evening Flosey
hi chopra -- it's easier with Lickety's list
You're plodding faster than I am, flosey, I'm at a measly 79
I have 101
but you've been making interesting comments along the way Douglas
and am at the mi words in the list
good morning everyone
I've been struggling with the in words
in + Webster's ****ionary
still have 1 bt
I'd like to think that counts somehow in the total package of Babble enjoyment
tyty jilli
yes, Douglas, I agree - and, obviously Jilli does too
the other in is in + kick the bucket
hi crossy!
:)
thanks again jilli - thought I had tried that and didn't go - prob. hit a wrong key
hi crossy
trouble sleeping again crossy?
howdy jilli,flosey..yes indeed have a touch of flu going and the chest is rattly, have to sit up for a bit and what better way than with my babble buddies;0
61* is in the grid, Roger Maris, but he isn't a word
indeed, crossy, but sorry you're not feeling well
good thinking, crossy
nares are nostrils, so why isn't nare a word for one nostril?
I've always tried that one too jilli, seems logical to me
I am going to be up way too late doing this
sokay,my fav sweater, vicks on the cheast, tylenol and chicken soup for the soul and im all set..lol and puffers to breathe
I suppose it's Latin or something
where are you chopra?
Seattle
that sounds pretty cosy, crossy
ah, just south of Jilli and me
well, you're not as late as some of the easterners who are often here at this hour
lol, poor crossy, just about everyone is south of me:)
yes, just north of stidmama
awww, crossy!
all these exotic locals are but a dream to me now lol
Disappointed that pieman isn't in the dictionary...
Neither eerie nor aerie are in the grid, but they look like they should be
I've forgotten where you are, crossy -- courtenay?
one day ill really go wild and see if i can do a run down to niagra falls;)
hello omarr, haven't met you before
lol jilli im in collingwood on georgian bay
hi flosey!
oh, duh to me, crossy
are you new to babble, omarr?
sokay jilli,i have a memory of a goldfish
hi omarr, and I agree. Simple Simon met a pieman...
I'd played years ago, but just stumbled back in recently
ah, well, welcome back
welcome back, omarr
Thanks :)
I just looked for my registration email and it was almost four years ago! March 19, 2006
ah, I started in June, 2006
I did on May 28, 2006
With you regarding pieman, omarr
I wonder what it is about mid-March that makes me want to Babble...
Should amocide be a word for killing off love?
Douglas, can we petition to add it? ;)
rotsa ruck, omarr!
ouch, stuck at 202 pts
my isp keep hiccuping:(
are you using Lickety's list, chopra?
I don't know what that is
sorry i'm nooby
One of my longstanding beefs with Babble is the inflexibility of the dictionary, omarr
it's a big help -- gives you the first 2 letters of each word, how long it is, and its point score. Just scroll down to Friends of Babble and look for Lickety's Babble Clues. Right-click to open it in a new window.
doug, did you see my opinion of Enable?
indeed douglas,if it is not american spelling,it is finicky colour, arbour, theatre etc and many more
(scroll down in my profile)
hilarious :)
:-)
Crosshair, are you the one who likes everything-bacon? vosgeschocolate.com has 'the Mini Bacon Candy Bar Library' (blending smoky bacon and rich chocolate) - $25 for 9 bars.
Dr_God, the creator, has consistently mentioned that Babble, for better or for worse, is hard wired to Enable. In other words, the dictionary you have now is the dictionary you are going to have for the foreseeable future
well could of been worse,dr_god could of been hawaiaan and we could be dealing with their words;)
mmm,sounds delish christine
we do, from time to time -- aloha, haole, pois...
what makes you think there are no Hawaiian words in Enable
Hawaiian wouldn't be so bad. They only have 13 letters.
hi christine
nene is another one that shows up now and again.
wahine?
yes, but all vowels ...
can you imagine those big long jaw breaker words though? lol
hello jwr and unithorn
and there's a bird who flies by every so often...
well, I must get to bed, have to be up early
Hiya!
Hiya!
hi jilli and all
unithorn, where's your flag etc?
night flosey -- see you tomorrow some time
goodnight all, be back, hopefully to finish
...huh. Curious.
Yes, jilli, I did. What you said!
Better?
my personal favorites that are missed in Enable are "common" Japanese words -- tatsoi, ronin, etc.
Much better, uni :-D
yeah, I always want "ronin" - don't know what "tatsoi" is though
glad we don't have that tiny Hawaiian fish franmag told us about -- umu-umu-nuku-nuku-apua'a
i have more than enough canadian/british spellings to drive me around the bend on a regular basis lol
oh that's a marvelous fish
but we're not allowed ramen
yeah. ramen's on my list, so is soba. yum.
with a name like that i bet the fist is a half inch in length hehe
you're right, crossy
lol
ramen, huh? You rang?
oh no, Chop are you Instant?
oh, yes, I see, chop-ramen, lol!
Jilli, I just came back to tell you - I sent you an email - please open tonight
=]
ok flosey, will now
lol, only ramen i know are the noodles i lived on for the first year on my own, that and the finest whiskey money can buy lol
lol, first things first, eh, crossy
Yep, that's the live of a starving college student - Rye and Ramen
ramen and whiskey? now there's a couple of basic food groups for ya.
my food bill was $1.35 a day lol
my booze bill was 135 lol
glenfiddich and tap water lol
just a splash mind you..cannot be bruising the alcohol
*back from email* -- great one, flosey!
lol, thought you'd like it
g'night again
Crossy -- I just noticed your flag -- how is it you are having a problem with "Canadian and British spellings" -- too much south-of-the-border television, eh?
re-g'night, flo
hi-by flo
phantom -- simian
no,jwr,my problem is the grid will not take half of them..use them all the time myself lol
HEllo
howdy herin
hi OSGD
examples, Crossy? I love new spellings.
phantom: octomom
I find the grid takes lots of brit spellings
would that she were, jwr!
Hi OSGMA> How are yuo all?
well that standards..now im not sure how many it will take at this time..arbour,theatre,colour,i do not think it will take poultine..im too fuzzy to think of more now, touque, ballaclava
it takes poutine and tuque and balaclava if you spell them them wight, lol!
*right
go soft on me jilli, cwossy sick
lol
doesn't take hoser, though
Having difficulty with ic**** ... GRRR
pauvre petit crossy
too much glenfiddich, not enough water
ic6 - compound word
you watch too much bob and dough Mckenzie jilli
Welp I think I'll come back to this when I'm less hungry and my mind is clear
chop, not the pieman, but the guy who delivers frozen water
so take off eh?
Take care all!
tc chop
Are you serious? ICEMAN?!

working on it!
heh, I found that one pretty quickly
well, grem, you're Special
I was thinking it was more like killing(s) of environment, but yes.
you're right, doug
and I now have 120 words with 58 left for the morrow, so goodnight all, and *poof*
ah, got them, thanks :)
night jilli!
I suppose I should head to bed too. g'night everyone
Night OSGMA

Morning/evening all. How goes the grid today?
It's been quite a while since I got a word on my own...thanks for getting me to nbt, grem, good night all
Hello everyone
Hello lynxxx
hi FM, playing this morning?
just debating that very point :)
seems to get sticky about half way through
HAve finished sudoku and caught up on emails so was pondering the layout of the tiles and thinking hmmmm
You haven't lost any clients with the move?
morning lynxxx & FM
hi Katie
No, thanks to virtual working I was able to keep all my clients (love technology)! Morning Katie.
Has the car been fixed Katie?
I love virtual working, it means I can babble in the moring :-)
Can't wait for the time I can babble whist sitting in the garden on a summers morning *bliss*
need to buy some patio furniture first tho :)
only 5 x re's LoriP will be pleased.
it's not exactly flowing for me today
me neither, think I wil lgo do something else for a while and come back with fresh eyes. Have a good day.

no kidding - some sticky tiles in the grid today
I've bn playing since Dec, but hv only reached fireworks twice, both times with help from the chog but no lists!
however, it's fun and helps keep me sane!
i didn't get fireworks for a long time when i first started
but now i try to get them every time i start the puzzle. it takes time as much as anything else
when i have enough time i try to do it without any lists
but on busy days i use the list for the last 20% or so
half! now I can make lunch
ains
pb, all alone :(
hello, is anybody here?
I may be talking to myself ... Good morning everyone
HI MOM
{{Herin}} hello, so good to see you. How is school?
Good about to go to bed. I thought I would drop in and say HI
glad school is going well. Pleasant dreams to you.
How you been going?
just fine, thanks. The sun is shining today with a high of 65 F
That does sound delightful
it is welcomed. We will have to take it while we can, suppose to go back to the 40's F next week
brr
I suprised the heck out of the 3 girls that don't like me today
true, but spring is around the corner.
someone doesn't like you? You are such a sweetie. How did you do that?
They are very very err dense and we had a run in last year. One of them housen't been there most of the week. T needed last years lectures and I had them so I gave them to her
what a kind gesture, Herin
Well I didn't need it any more. I was smart to get them off the internet straight away last year. And one of my other assignments I have done 2 questions
you are such a good student. How much longer until you graduate?
End of the year
excellent. What will your degree be in?
Advance Diploma in Business - legal practice and Diploma in Business
wow, that is excellent. You should have no trouble getting a job.
I do want to get into law
how much more schooling to be a lawyer?
3 years
will you continue on?
mostly
I wish you all the best with your studies. I think you will make a fine lawyer
Thank you Mom
you are so welcome.
I think i must go to bed now
pleasant dreams. I have enjoyed our chat and catching up on things with you. {{hugs}}
hugs
:-)
hello everyone
{{Annie}} good morning! How are things with you?
((Mom)) I love your new icon
thanks Annie.
how things have changed in 70 years
I am fine..it is going to be a lovely day today..sunny and near 70. Can you imagine lard and cigarettes?
high near 65 and sun here. No, I can't. There is one that I don't think I will post but since it is just you and me here (hopefully), it is using liquid Lysol for a feminine hygiene cleaning product
Yes, I remember my m-i-l doing that...lol.
oh no. lol
I had no idea what she was talking about to her friends but I know she didnt like it. So much for Lysol.
Good morning, all. Liquid lysol ... ouch.
I was very young at the time.
HI Judi..lol
wow. Gee, just think it is in a spray now. :)
Hi Judi
no, you can still buy a bottle of it. Or getting in cleaning clothes (which might be easier to use in this context).
I would think Listerine would have been more advisable.
Hi Lideola, that is true.
Lysol is still around but not in that use.
Oh Judi, yes Listerine. I never could figure out why they wrapped it in paper.
I swear by Lysol for spraying around the house.
Really, mom. Talk about over packaging.
I remember my grandparents used Listerine and I tried it once, ugh it was terrible
hi
some liquids deteriorate in light. Not sure if that is true with Listerine, but I think its true for peroxide.
first timer
Listerine is the worst. I'd rather shove soap in my mouth.
earn
hi marf

oops
Hiya, Marf. Word entries go in the add word box to the left of chat.

Not like I just did. UHG!
Hi Marf, welcome to Babble. We are a fine lot here, this game is easy to get addicted to. I thank you for those words, I didn't have them

marf heard aboaut our well stocked pb!
Marf, I sure am glad you came to babble this morning. You are being a great help to me. :)
we all do it marf...just takes a whie to remember to move the cursor. Not only do we not compete, but a lot of the fun is giving each other clues.
the p's are defeating me.
should be an option to revert after a chat entry
I didn't chat for the first year just for that reason.
As Stephen King says in Dreamcatcher, its a fuckarow!
yes, it would be nice if it automatically reverted
cocoa
hehe
hehe ... not in the grid :-)
marf, there is an area under the grid Add Word..that's where the words goes unless I dont have it then put it in the chat

Hi GE
hi Good

All of us
Not really a 'tournament' as such, marf. Word list will either be today's list of words or Lickety's clue list (another site, for those of us who can't finish a grid without a few pointers, lol)
I think most people are pro here. It's only a one time fee.
Yes - most of us are Pros, marf.

Hi Sea

That's a brutal commute, marf.
but not an easy 41 miles - do you have to do 70 east to beltway then around?
actually Westminster is way north of 70, that wouldn't work
might be 41 miles with a helicopter :)
not 70 ever, 140 to 795
I'm hoping you mean MD is cancer center as in cancer research, not cancer patients..
but i go 27 to Hampstead, them 88 to 137 to 45 to 138 to 23

We like to share, Haz.
good evening to stay in and babble i guess
We never have it in quite such dramatic fashion, but for once, I'm not blaming FM.
Haz- I hope you get the beautiful weather it left in its wake. Absolutely gorgeous these past 2 days.
right Liddy
Haz, It was a doozy. My daughter has no power or water or phone for 4 days. There is still 2 cars out in the street in our neighborhoods with trees on them.

That sounds great, lideola, we're ready for spring to arrive soon.

Hi vicuna

(No shower of !!!!ii etc in Ata's absence)
I am trying to find the author of Living In Living Out, Une

world saving is difficult work. sigh...
Une, very good book
Picture book? Chapter book?
I wonder if FM's cleaning lady will end up writing a book about her experiences.

Hi lurking Crossy

Okay. I'll send some.
I think it's awesome you're taking it, peri!
will order later today, ty all
okay i guess i will have to save the world without nbt this morning
really gotta go
bbl
peri, what class are you taking?

Bye, jmc. the world appreciates your efforts!!
sounds great Peri
YOu may have to wait a long time, jmc
peri, Oh that's wonderful.
i wish vic! lol
*poof*
hi there hego.
hego, by my reckoning the e on the right (2 words coming from it) are ec7 and its plural ec8.
(Off to get some flower pics. Back in a bit.)
pretty icon, hego, love the colors
later, vi
Hi again Peri. I'm impressed by your efforts.
ty Haz. Hmmm...
Peri it's Georgia O
Think of it as murder of the environment or something.
ty hego, I like to try new things
ec7 looks like "environmentalist kills self"
GO, one of my favaorite artists
snap, haz :-)
got it Haz, ty again
You're welcome - great minds, Une, great minds...
:-D
Me too Peri. I love flower pics.
tile stats are how many uses for each tile in the 178 words right?
ty for the ec7/8
Although people always forget the rest of that saying, but since it involves talk of fools we'll not go there.
marf, the tile stats mirror the grid. If you look at the top left e, it means that there is one word beginning with e coming from that tile. The next letter along is s, you need to find 7 words beginning with s coming from that tile.
need to eat something, bbl
As you find words, the tile stats change to mirror your progress.
but what if a word can be formed 2 ways?
Have to go now. bbl. hagd All.
mace
Then it always comes from the first tile it possibly can, working left to right, top to bottom.
help with the ec words?
Oops
Poof!
bye peri and hego -- i'm off for awhile as well -- BBL *poof*
Just clued, harpjane, at 8.57.
oh thanks, i'll go look
Bye Une, peri and hego.
ce7 pottery
py words?
py6/30 and py6/33 - same save for last letter. The second one is py plus a reworking of plural rodents.
lol i call my cats! thanks
the 7s are done!
You're welcome, harp.
ah, thanks Hazel
You're welcome, Annie.
hi all
I am leaving 15 for later, bye dear babblers
Bye, Annie, nice to see you.
Hello, Boo.
bye annie
finally finished those A's
gaaaaaaaaaaaaah
Which being interpreted means?
means that my boss told me an event was happening on a certain date and didn't tell me when the date changed, so now all the arrangements have to be changed
Then you're entitled to at least three !!.
Good Morning All. How are you all today? (We have some lovely sun for my day off today! :-)
That's frustrating, hurshy, replanning is never as simple as planning.
Good morning, Nef, enjoy the sunshine.
hurshy, that's horrible! Did the date move up or farther out?
py6/30 and py6/33 - what does this mean?
I plan to, Haz. Except for the job of cleaning dog pooh from the back yard! :-P
farther out by a few weeks. it's not too bad except that it means we have to move the location.
the 30, i got pyemic
points?
marf - remember not to put the words in the chat!
ack! don't type words in the chat!
well rodents are mice guh!
Look at the word list - alongside your py word that you've got, you'll see the points value. The other py word is the same but ends in a vowel.
bad marf..bad..to the pb
pb?
And you've done it again! Please - it's kind of forgiven for new people but if you keep doing it, it gets annoying...
just an imaginary penalty box we have for people who put grid words into the chat
hi marf. Has anyone told you about the help box up above this chat box yet? One of my favorite sites for newbies is under the tile stats grid you will find ""friends of Babble. On the bottom right of the list is AngleSnong's Babble Page. You should check it out
The words have points total based on the value of the letters. A four letter word is just the value of the letters. A five letter word is the value of the points multipled by 2 - six by three.
Just keep an eye on the words as they build up and you'll see how the scoring works.
oh so YOU told the pt value, it isnt called out anywhere til you get the word
And the PB is imaginary and not a bad place at all. It has all sorts of nice things there; but we do remind people that we goof when they put words in the chat
got it, like lame couch in Acrophobia! @______@
Many babblers use Lickety's list (see link at the bottom of the page). It gives points values and first two letters of the words.
like our rodent friend is mi 4/6=4 letters,6 points
marf, you can also use Lickety's BabbleClues under the Friends of Babble list. Licketys list give the point value for the words
we love lickety:)
I got 71 words on my own so far
any use Ace wordfinder?
many Babblers don't use Licketys list until they can't find anymore words
cotto
Hi all. Hope you're all having a nice day.
That's good - it's probably good if you get used to the game first and enjoy finding the words you know. Many new babblers get too obsessed with finishing before they have got properly used to the game.
some make a game and try to get at least 50% of the words before they go to licketys list marf..some showoff do the whole thing while drinking their first coffee lol..i am not one of those
Hello, guernsey.
howdy gurnsey
mm typo day for me i see
See my icon!
hi guernsey
love you pic guernsey..i want to be there
can see myself keeping the lighthouse...:)
So do I. I've gone prof. as you can see, but couldn't get my own photo to upload, so picked one off the net
yaa for guernsey going pro!!!
Unfortunately, cross, lighthouses are no longer manned this side of the Atlantic.
Sorry, personned
Oh, never mind the political correctness - to man is a verb!
same here guernsey,we have a whole string of lighthouses all built in 1850-1855 and they were manned till the 50,s then the coast guard had them automated till around 1985 or so,now they sit empty:(
technology made them obsolete;(((
It's sad really, isn't it. i think lighthousekeeping appealed to very interesting people
interesting people who weren't afraid to be by themselves.
who could spend long days playing babble
i am a throwback,i can see myself watching the lighthouse, tube radio playing, sideband tranceiver ready and a stack of books a mile high and my telescope on the topp rail of the light
And bacon sizzling on the stove...
of course
Back to tackle the last 48. Guernsey - that picture is just breathtaking!
Hello, Judi.
maybe that was why they automated them, loners weren't as easy to find at the middle and end of the 20th century?
Glad you like it. i love that bit of the island
hi Judi
naw nef, technology killed then after the 80,s.why have a light when gps can tell you within a block where you are
I think they automated them just because they can. It probably saves money.
Oh, Crossy - you romantic mush.
thats me judi,an ole romantic
Yeah, that's true too. But I do think that there are fewer and fewer people these days who are comfortable being alone with themselves too.
There are a few "original lighthouses left". Seek and ye shall find the rare Fresnel lens.
i think we have ten of our original lights left on georgian bay judi
Well, I must leave you and get some work done. Enjoy the day and the grid. Bye!
all built by the same company in 1850-55
Fresnel lenses really are works of art.
tc haz
Bye Haz
Bye!
bye Haz
the lenses themselves?? they are magnificent!! ground in such a way a single kerosine lamp can pierce the darkness to that extent
and the refletors
It's so amazing on this site. Just mention something and someone knows all about it. I didn't even have to ask.
reflectors,,lol for every 1 thing i know,there are 10,000 i do not
Yes! Jimmy Buffet wrote about a quest to find one in one of his books.
jimmy buffet;) the parrothead club
One of my goals in life is to see Jimmy Buffet in concert. Heh. Good luck getting tickets.
every time i listen to him,i want to hunt for salt and lime
While i'm thinking about lighthouses and jimmy buffet, can anyone clue co5/14? it's driving me mad
co5/14: swiss miss, nestles... served hot.
co4/15 latin plural
co5,14 co + playing on stage
co5/14: co4/6 plus vowel
Sorry, i meant the first one, not the drink. Thanks for that mixi, i got it from you.
I give up. Clue for Ce7, please?
pottery
think pottery Judi
* blank stare *

hi Babblers

howdy pippi, ill chat you up any time;))
hate these c's..ugh
im looking for the name used to describe those burial mounds you see in the U.K and east coast canada
ca + bio**c woman + 4th letter of the alphabet
thank you ERDA!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ty erda
YW -- it took me a while to figure out how to clue it...
sometimes ole crossy need to be led by the nose to the word erda;0
never mind crossy; that was a particularly obscure word...
anyone think of the common name for those burial mounds for me,it is driving me nuts..
i think i see it in the grid ,but the spelling eludes me
c + what we breathe + consonant
ca5/12? - includes what we breathe in the middle
But leave out one of the vowels and you get another word, too.
and then plural!
leave out one of the consonants and you get another word...
...and plurals for them all!
Crossy, are you thinking of the word barrow or cairn.
Elder! PB!
There's a reason we weren't telling him! lol
i think i am lazy today and will list right away
i already had a major soup disaster to clean up so am all about streamlining my efforts for my day off
Yikes! Condolences on the soup disaster.
i should know better than to microwave in a plastic cup
I know sorry. have not be too good and have been popping periodically and being still and quiet and when trying to help a fellow babbler I make a blunder. So will remain mute and pop in and out as the meds will get in the way of sensible speak. :)
but i'd been looking forward to the soup since last night so i don't know if i was more upset about the mess or losing the soup
Oh, no worries, elder! I didn't mean to discourage you!
no worries elder, we all do it far too often
its ok - shuld have known better.
But at least nobody lost any soup over it, elder! ;)
it was a wonderful pureed carrot soup
i salvaged half of it
Thanks goodness for that, anyway. SOunds delicious.
how can it accept the ic6 but not the fellow that simple simon met?
Good afternoon everyone. How's the grid today?
I guess Enable never went to the fair.
Hello, Takuma. I do not find that it flows.
elder, hello, and try to be of good cheer! I know how hard it can be....
May I please have some help with the EC 7?
Hello, ruby.
hello vicuna
ty pippin
Wish I could, car.eeyore. I'm still looking.

I guess that will be my major accomplishment for the day! LOL!
Hi All. ec7 is like killing the ec* system
i would feel proud!
it's more than I did!
ecocide
okay, i love that the surfing alpaca is named pisco
i do love a good pisco sour
whoops, bad nel
I would feel proud also. Hey, it's an accomplishment
into the pb for me....
Thanks, hego. I've been trying to use that ending on everything else.
TY Hego! Got it!@
hi hego and ruby and car.eeyore and whoever else I missed
ty ruby! great clue!
And now I have NBT too!
That's it, Rube. lol
That Pisco looks more wet and bedraggled than sour!
I make great ones, pippin!!!
i know, he looked pretty sad
Time for lunch! BBL!
Hi Boo
I just get too excited when I finally "get it"
sorry
I'm not sure if he was downright sad, but he certainly looked more resigned than enthusiastic!
hard to get pisco here, but it's my favorite drink!
I know! poor thing!!
:-D
that's about how my cat looks when that wet
back later tonight... 88 left
hi and bye jmb
Yep. I am a leading fan of camelids, but there are limits even to their considerable talents. lol
Bye, jmbdobie.
What, no cami? what will I wear under my sheer tops?
certainly nothing camo
how are you, hego? your promised spring has arrived and I've been gardening as much as I am able
I guess it ain't legal if it ain't got sole. ;)
LOL
sheer tops? what a horrible idea!
I loved the alpaca lifejacket, but the poor thing looked so unimpressed every time it fell off! had to show you ..
right, Vic
It's okay if you have the cami, Ruby
I have alpaca sweaters and hope that they just shear them to make them (like wool from sheep.....)
NOT!
Thanks, Ata! It's important to have a hobby, and who's to say that teaching alpacas to surf is any less useful than Babbling...
frankly i don't understand the sheer tops thing - either wear a shirt that can stand on its own or don't wear it!
I think they do Ruby.
Yes, they shear alpacas.
but my fashion sense is lacking according to those who "know"
you should see the French fashion mags; they are horrible
my fashion sense left when I hit 50!
Pippin, I don't mean really sheer, I just like to make sure it's all well covered.
i'm only 35 but i never liked the sheer top thing
a burqua for me wouldn't be such a bad thing
especially in the 90s when it was over the exposed bra - but that had more to do with my lack of endowment...
Therefore all your
save everybody's eyes!
And since they shear alpacas, all your alpaca garments are shear. Ha ha.
hahah
i was thinking that, vi
ROFL Vic. YAY!
my alpaca sweaters are fluffy and lively!
Fluffy and lively and SHEAR, you crazy woman of fashion, you!
lovely! not lively - scary idea
that's me, for sure
All right lovely. Whatever. lol
I was intrigued Ruby.
imagine a lively sweater --
Imagining lively sweaters.
i have no alpaca sweaters, but then i live in florida
I've seen some pretty lively outfits.
all in the past :((
i've worn some pretty lively outfits!
I bought the first one while living in Miami, but it was for a trip!
My daughter has been known to wear a plaid jumper (US meaning) over flowered turtleneck, with tie-dyed tights. That one was lively all right.
in the not so recent past!
could we fix her up with my son; his "companion" isn't very lively.
for the oscar party i went to this month i wore red black and white striped thigh-high socks and a short black dress
She's only 7, ruby. Not ready to be fixed up with anyone yet! lol
very cute, pippin!
I like lively tights.
jojocubd!
I wish I still had all my clothes from the 60's and 70's; they've all come back and would still fit
Marf, you're back!
i got them from sock dreams, highly recommended for anyone with a sock/tights obsession
And Babbling.
Let this be a lesson to all never to throw anything away.
marf
also have good stuff for wide guage calves
gauge? sheesh
I'll have to check it out, pippingeek!
Did you go pro?
full of regrets in that regard, vicuna; when I got married I threw away all my old stuffg -- what a mistake!
crossy does not wear the tights, but he does enjoy them;)))
i'm throwing almost everything away, but that's cause i'm moving to new york
jojoc/marf. Did you go pro?
Hello, marf.
don't throw it away, put it in storage
Hi Crossy!
howdy hego
dinner now, see you later everybody
enjoy ruby!
Bye Rube
see you ((hugs))
must go check on laundry
Was checking out the tights. I love the multi-color stripes -- but I'm not quite up to $42 for a pair!
Bye, ruby!
yeah, i stick with the socks. pricey, but great quality
i'M TESTING lOW nOISE aMPLIFIERS, PLAYING IN BETWEEN!

Yeah, what he said.
I only have one. It's the dog family. But I'll start looking for more now!
that's the one he wants
There. Now it's my third. =)
my deamon offsprings idea of amplifiers is to turn it to 11 and pull the knobs off;/
78 jo u?
now that's demonic!

estuaries are awesome
Sounds like more fun Ata. Re tomorrow did you get my email with directions?
the dumb am's and im's are enough to make anyone dizzy. No to mention the co's.
yep yep. I'm really not sure of time. Shall I text you from Bognor when I'm leaving?

my P says 3/7, yet the E next to it says 1/4. Both tiles above and below these are grayed (done). How is this possible?
I cant use the P 4 times and the E only 3!!
WTF
marf, they are the letters that start the word, not that are in the word.
OOOOOhhhhHHH!
:-)
gotcha thanks, ima retard
And good evening/
lol took me long enough to get those pair of ec,s:(
Just think how much harder the grid would be if we could only use each letter using marf's rules!
hehe
(((crossy))) and good evening Sally and Hi marf
Hi FM!
clue for di 5/18
silly by the by - topped up the bird bath about half an hour ago and just watched a backbird having a good 'wash and brush up' in it - simple pleasures but it made me smile.
((FM))
add the sometimes vowel to the di4/6
Not silly at all FM. The wild birds here are one of our greatest pleasures.
simple pleasures are the best ones'
only just realising how much I have missed having a garden.
101!
wtg marf as thisis not the easiest grid to do.
what do I win when I get em all?
you get fireworks
ALRIGHT!
volume?
You also get huge satisfaction and total smugness :-)
But only if you manage to finish a grid in the 1st 2 weeks of joining. After that you will lose all the stats shown under the grid :( But by then you will be hooked and will have to go pro *grin*
hello sally and fm
Good evening ruby!
Hi ruby!
fm,my mrs has what is known as a herb garden jar.i dont know if you have them ,but they are great!!,it is a single large decrorative potting jar about 4 feet tall and all the way around the exterior of the jar and at different heights little cuts in the jar have been made to form terraces and she has planted all her favorite herbs in each.it is quite pretty and usefull when you are in a place where you cannot have a normal garden
Hows Max doing ruby, did the vets treatment work out well? Oh I know what you mean crossy and was looking at one very similar at the garden centre on Sunday.
Sounds like a strawberry jar.
but now I have moved I have a tiny garden and am boring everyone to death with each growing thing that is popping up :)
tks for asking, FM, Max is doing better, the horrible bloody places are growing bqack but he still does a lot of compulsive biting;
lol
no little growing thing could 4ever be boring.
mange ruby?
yes, crossy, he had sarcoptic mange (diagnosed by ata) and treated with ata's suggested mesd
hopefully the condition will settle down ruby.
Sorry, I have to love you and leave you all. I need to shower before I go out, and have been mucking out the hen hoiuse and gardening all day so at the moment I am not nice to know!

Drats! Tarnation!
when we were building our house in Montreal we had a french canadian carpenter who though recome was a word -- he was always going to recome back to fix something ;)
Well, I wish that were true today. I cannot see these co's. Have all the other c's

I keep trying atomic. It is driving me bananas.

premi*** = theory
thanks cyber got it
mi4ry loves company
ce 7, please?
in winter i like to drink hot co*** *poof*
thought i had tried that already
and thanks nan
ce 7 - what plates are made of - not porcelain - the other material from clay
hi n bye jmc
ah -- and me, a retired potter! -- ty
actually the ce 7 refers to anything made from any type of clay
true
so all porc elain is ce7 but not all ce7 is porcelain
yes
woot pippin, that is deep :)
correct pip
33 remain
only 103 left
porcelain is a clay mix that is predominantly kaolin and needs to be fired at a much higher temp. than earthenware to become vitreous -- too much info, I know ;)
and virtreous is? Glassy?
someone have the na 5?
Like the city with the eiffel tower only with an N
not it
hardened to the point where it will survive under stress such as heat or water pressure (why it is used for bathroom fixtures)
ty
ah ok, thanks nan
ooh -- back to those ec's I just cannot find
ec are related to the environment plus the ending of what you call it when someone takes their own life

Good evening...I assume everyone here has recovered from the St Patrick's Day celebrations yesterday!
tomorrow
Hello Nancy boy
what celebrations?
hey Nancy Boy
oc's please
I haven't got one word that is 6 long...brain freeze
Hi all :) Pippin, just general celebrations...I dunno if it's a big thing in America...round here people seemed to be getting drunk off the fumes in the air
lol Barb, silly feeling, isn't it. How about past tense get the soap out of the laundry?
no it's huge here, i just worked all day and am not irish like most americans
nm a FISH
I am not Irish but I sure would like to learn to be
Well I'm Korean. Never stops me ;)
any occasion to celebrate should be celebrated, right?
i'm not a very good drinker and after i wasted my only day off last week with the vomiting, i figured i was best off going home so i could enjoy my day off
Quite right, Sprite :)
Probably wise then, Pippin. Everyone celebrates in their own way!
awww pippin. next time, drink at least one glass of water for every alcoholic drink... no hangovers then.
ma 6/24?
or i could just not go out drinking, no hangovers then either, plus cheaper and better for the figure
nan: a deranged killer is a ma**a*, change the a into another vowel.
also a good idea, pippin.
to prevent a hangover add 4 heaping tsp. of sugar to a glass of milk and take with 2 apirin -- voila -- it either comes right back up, or no hangover the next am.
lol nan!
woo! another one done. Back to the yard work!! I ♥ spring!
ty sprite
LOL Cyber. I just avoid them by only drinking spirits + mixers. I think the mixers must promote hydration so there's no problem. But clear spirits work best!
wtg kc and enjoy the garden
still need help with c on the bottom pls
still the hot chocolate drink, periwinkle
no hot chocolate drink peri?
wtg kc
ty, missed an earlier clue
nice one, Kc!
help with E in upper left pls
always have trouble with words staring with vowels
a law or pronouncement
hi there NB, how are you doing?
to cure a hangover ,pur a half a glass of beer, add tomato or clamato juice,a single raw egg and 3 drops of tobasco
the reason it and the hot choc works is because the high sugar content replaces sugar absorbed by the alcohol, the milk puts a lining on the stomach and I guess the aspirin takes away the pain ;)
Doing great thanks, Peri :) although I must admit to feeling very rough this morning...
crossy that sounds utterly foul
hi crossy, where is the bacon in that recipe?
Crossy, got to say, that sounds soooo foul I can't even fathom it!
thank you pippin
it is a very old remedy nb
I'll stick to throwing pints of water down myself ;) never had a taste for beer, at all
someone please first co 5
but remember the time to worry is when you do not get hangovers any more;/
co + play in a movie
okay, shower then climbing for me, be back to try and finish later
ty
tc pippi
enjoy pippin. Remember, it is not the falling that is bad. It is just the landing.
you have to catch yourself on the bounce
landing's not so bad either what with the padded floors
LOL Sprite. Truer words never spoken

Goodmorning all

I think it just has to wash off, nancy -- try detergent a few times
or wear a shirt ;)
... a dark green one!
lemon juice will lighten it somewhat but rest will take time
thanks Cyber...we'll try the former...it's in my best interests that I steer him away from doing the latter ;)
5/12 (last one)?
lemon juice huh...sounds like this could be a fun evening.
lol,if all else fails add calamari rings
Some products that can be used to remove ink from the skin are rubbing alcohol, denatured alcohol, hand sanitizer, sunscreen lotion, nail polish remover, shaving cream, and facial cleaning pads, and also toothpaste.
LOL!
Than ks Wiki
Congrats Boo

Gotta say, watching my other half stumble around covered in grooming products is a befitting send of for St Patrick's day...at least for another year
heh....wish I had known the veggie oil thing a few years back...."OKAY honey put the shower curtain over the bedspread. Somebody got magic markered!"
LOL Jmitch! At least we aren't alone then ;)
and for the record Crossy, he wasn't a Yorkshireman :D he was a tall Irish lad wearing a big green tophat, which I found this morning in the corner of our bedroom. Looks like we're irresponsible drunken thieves.
howdy babble buds... what's this talk of oil and marker? baby wipes remove just about anything
amazing that we use them on baby bottoms and they're remove the tuffest grease!
Hi, ADHD :) well, Leo and I awoke from our St Patrick's day celebrations to find ourselves, er, decorated with big green shamrocks, in what appears to be permanent marker. Baby wipes has been added to the list!
this looks like a tuff grid
rofl
who's Leo?
i just read your profile NB... I'll adopt you!
he's my partner, ADHD
you're a sweetie
lol nb,did you get decorated also?
crossie... where did you get your icon pic?
thanks, ADHD! I'll add you to my babble family ;)
well Crossy, I didn't cover my back in shaving foam just for the fun of it ;) although I kind of wish I had, it feels really weird. The cat looks a bit startled though.
lol of that im sure
*sending hugs*
keep the laffs coming... ruff day for me today and I'm actually laughing! (and smiling)
what are the 8s?
Thanks, ADHD :) sorry to hear it's a rough day...that's an adorable car though!

wow fancy schmancy
mine had the big LOL!!!! 1600cc engine
LOL.
loli spent 2 years with a ice scraper in one hand and the driver window open\
anyone have the 8s?
lol you're taking me down memory lane now. i remember a slush storm with my hand out the window freezing
singing to the tunes on the AM radio to take my mind off my arm
I believe it's little things like that, Crossy, that cause aliens to swoop down low to our planet but then leave again
hah. Leo has gone to buy lemons. I hope your fading theory is right, Crossy ;)
oh. u r a pistol NB, anyone ever tell you that?
a pistol, ADHD?! I hope that's good...never heard that expression before in my life :)
trust crossy
if not you can use them for tequillia shooters;)
yes yes yes.... it's all good, and funny and quick
can't help but feel that the tequila shooters helped get us into this mess Crossy ;)
lol
and kind of sexy in a James Bond kind of way ;) no no, I jest. Thank you though :D try my best!
is there a list today?
any clues for those py words?
Lickety is there
lol,ill never get to 50% to ever have a look at it;(
NB, please call me Do or DoDo (pronounced doodoo) ALL of my friends and family call me that. and now that you're family....
that goes for all my babble buds... ADHD is tuff to type fast
py+ im low on iron so i am A***** and pl
No problem, DoDo :) and of course, call me whatever you like; I answer to most things. Koren names, English names ;)

oooh One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest is my favourite book EVER!
i got it crossy..
good book nb,try pappilon also
never read the book, but have seen the movie more times that i care to admit
however Crossy, your tips regarding the uses of lemon juice are not bad at all ;)
Jack Nicholson was -born- for that role. Loved him more in The Shining though. Amaaazing film
he's an amazing actor
pappilin is by henrie clarrie(sp) been a long time but you should be able to google it ok
back
darn typos..im off to the store..perhaps to find new fingers..semi poof
read the shining... i'm surprised they chose Olive Oyl to play the wife... opposite of the book
hi Sprite!
cool Crossy, will look up it up in the library!
LOL. Don't freeze!
hey crossy wait... please get me some. *sending money for new fingers*
papillon
lol ADHD
oh I know, right?! I get the feeling she was a blond in the book, amongst other things
yep an attractive blonde
ce
still was an incredible film though. that weird, eerie music gets me every time...that kind of noise that wind makes around a building, and then those mechanical wincing sounds...just terrifying
*shivers up my spine*
same, just thinking about it! ooh I hope Leo gets back soon. I'm scared now!
that was the first movie made with the new techie camera (the strap on)
oh Nancy Boy, how did it end with the shamrock?
camera! where is YOUR mind if not on babble/
hasn't ended yet Sprite, more of an ongoing saga, Leo has gone out for more lemons aaaand...we have scraped a large amount of greeny-tinged shaving foam off our respective skins.
DoDo...*grins*
lol Nancy Boy... I hope it is fun and not just painful.
oooo othat sounds painful... scraping? baby wipes baby wipes
oh it is fun though :D up next, lemon juice and vegetable oil. If it doesn't work, we'll add some rosemary and think about throwing some meat on there.
sweat. Work up a sweat, that might help :) (innocent look on face)
thank you guys soooooooo much for all this comic relief! much needed comic relief.
*escorts ADHD to the Penalty Box*
now how on earth would we do that sprite.
what did i do????
*thinks* Jogging in place?
NM i just figured it out. i should stop chattting and start babbbling
you mean you don't like being in the penalty box? With all the goodies and tasties and drinks?
really? BRB
I hear it's settled firmly in the lap of luxury you know ;)
a good place to be :)
ahhhhh I've settled in nicely here in the PB
*tries to slip in unnoticed with ADHD*
right! the lemons are here and we have an entire evening at our disposal. Wish us luck, everyone!!
have fun, Nancy Boy, and I hope the shamrock comes off.
oh you were right.... mmmmm brownies, hershey's hugs & kisses, cinnamon buns. *squeezes fat hips back to babble*
After yesterday's grid I figured I was a genius and would have this done in fifteen minutes flat. Wrong, wrong, wrong.
:D wtg ADHD. Well I have fireflies here, off to bed with me. Thanks for the laughs!
thanks, Sprite :D Hi and bye, Stid! and nice talking to you this evening, DoDo, great chatting! Night all!
well, you could be a 30 minute genius, or a one hour genius stid
nite guys
stidgmere, only half wrong! Yes you are a genius. And no, this is not a 15 minutes' grid.
what kinda stupid word is a + rodent?
Hi Nancy Boy. Green, was it? Probably not even a one hour genius. Hi Sprite, you were in the pb? You know for a long time I thought that was peanut butter. It didn't make any sense.
it was ME in the box
french phrase for friend, ADHD! Ok, really *poof* now or I will never leave.
tx. bye sprite.
hi folks, - Do Do - the a + rodent is a priest's vestment
and thanks for that clue - I didn't have it til I saw your post :)
hi all. should i be in here or outside enjoying the weather?
oh. someone said it was a french word for friend?
no that's am 4/5
which made sense kinda like "amore"
hi doren -
oh there's another rodent???
hey joanne... heard today that I won't know for a while but my job looks very very shaky
i don't see another A word with a rodent... what am i missing?
oh, what terrible news, - so sorry to hear it - we are still in limbo, fearing the worst, hoping for the best,
I'm seriously considering my retirement option
the weather is gorgeous dorens.. i just got home a little bit ago. even this morning it was sun ny and warm
do you have more than one certification?
i have very few options... looking into retirement right now, but i'm only 20 years
i have k - 8 teaching in addition to the counseling, that's worthless right now. everywhere is letting go... what kind of chance do i have against someone who's been teaching more recently... been a counselor for last twelve years
oh no dorens, just read about your job. my hubby's job has been on shaky ground for a year... he never knows from day to day if he'll have a job and it's getting tuffer as more and more are sent packin'
i hope it works out for you - retiring with only 20 years means no health benefits right?
that's right
do you have 25?
but can you bump within your own district?
problem for him is that he's not hireable at his age in his field. too close to retirement
and i'm disabled and can't work... we need his ins.
yes 25 but I'm not yet 62, so my plan was to work at least one more year - now reconsidering
he's 20 yrs w/his company also
no, because i never taught in this district... started as a counselor.
These times are difficult for everyone. Just sorry to hear of the mindless cutbacks.
are you financially able to retire now JB?
happened to my brother-in-law -after 31 years at IBM, they "let him go" (sounds like releasing a fish back into the water) - he's only 55
j, everything i hear says retire now if you have the 25! they are looking to mess with the benefits of anyone who hasn't retiried previously
yes, I guess so DoDo, my husband has been retired for 3 years, we still have two years left on our mortgage but it's manageable
yes, I heard that too, doren -
oh dorens that sounds toooo familiar. one guy was so close after 22 yrs w/NASDAQ and they cut him loose just before retirement. he's not hireable and his wife has cancer and they cannot afford the cobra
the worst is what it is going to do to our schools and classrooms - the cuts will be devastating
don't know if i should go outside and see if the nice weather can cheer me up... that is fairly doubtful though
hi people! 46 left... let's see how quickly I can knock these off.
lots of districts are having to cut all nonessentials.... guidance, obviously, is necessary but not essential
just go out and take a nice breath of fresh air... slowly in through your nose and slowly out the mouth (very slowly is the key to relaxation)
hi smooth..
hiya pappa
it is beautiful out there, unfortunately we have the background music of chain saws (people cleaning up debris after the storm)
what's your fav camera pappa?
no, i am fairly fortunate... this is not nice for me, but i will get by if need be. going out... no chain saws right now... see you later
canon!
all the way. I swear by them
we
we've been Nikon people for 30 years
i got a 3k outfit for christmas two years ago and still don't know how to use half the functions.
we're hobby photogs w/pro cameras
Heh... as much as I love canon, I realy have to grit my teeth and admit that nikon makes quality products too ;)
i just wanted a digital slr nikon, basic; what a surprise on christmas morning when i opened the boxes! it does take some great photos. used to be a photo was only as good as the photographer, nowadays with technology, it's practically, as my photog prof used to say a PHD camera
back..wife saw the allens brand solid chocolate bunnies and that was it;/
Push Here Dummy
lol
the advances they are making with camera technology is amazing... but there's never true substitute for a good eye, good technique, and an understanding of light
reading back on the job woes..they have started a nasty process here.what the big companies do is hire you on,self employed, one year contracts only..no senority,no benefits..nothing
they renew it yearly and your new again
back again -- anyone need clues?
true pappa. my oldest son is truly amazing. at 14, my hubs gave him HIS first SLR, a yashika with no light meter... the stuff my kid turned out from that camera was amazing
a great understanding of light and composition
no more 33 years and the gold watch and the pension
sure nan. CA5/14 and 6/24 (combo?)
what interests me is that high speed black and white film.can do some wild shots with it
one set is a combo and the other isn't -- do you have the piece of jewelry carved from ivory?
does anyone use film anymore?
good for outdoor diffused lighting conditions
some do adhd
a few yrs ago my Nikon FE2 body was selling on ebay for what i'd paid for it in 1986; i bought tons of stuff for that getup and someone just said yesterday at a photo dept that i'm stuck with it..said to donate it
im sure befor long it will go the way of the dodo bird
ca 5 - 6 combo: my country + opp. ego
uh... glad i'm not related to the dodo (i'm doo doo, but my aunt spelled it do do, go figure, she was only 13)
sure! a lot of pro nature photographers (like those who shoot for National geographic, and similar styles) will use film. The market is really dwindling. especially gven that every year digital makes advances on the benefits that film still holds, but it will be some time before film really dies out
tx nan. great clue
i remember the time i had to run to beat the deadline to get all my rolls of 110 film done.they were discontinuing the processing of it at stores
good, cuz i want to sell my old stuff, not donate it.
do you have the other ca 6/24?
but most of those guys don't use 35mm film. They use medium and large format setups
lol
id not waste much time at it adhd
yes nan tx
my dad is in the same boat he has a nice pentax system with all the goodies
aha. then the 35mm IS done for. i could donate stuff to the university
does anyone have any of the i's on the third row?
lenses,filters,tripods.light meters
digital is such a bonus for the amateur though -- nothing like coming back from a 6 week trip with 2000+ photos to pick and choose from
my bro=in=law bought a working very old camera with 10x10 plates
now that is a grand idea adhd, leat the kids learn on it
35mm still does get used, but mostly by hobbiests who don't want to give up their old systems. I've even got a couple of old 35mm cameras gathering dust around here somewhere. lol
true nan
im + opp. ego and plural
oh?! that soounds like a great old camera! I'm a sucker for antique cameras. :)
i inquired about it yesterday; we've got 4 cameras here completely outfitted
so is my brother-in-law
and the clue below + vowel
thanks, nan - I have that but those are from the i in the second row
we have a old kodak eastman round here someplace;0
it was hysterical watching him using it with his head under the cloth hood
i've got several of those... a very early box camera, and 2 more box cameras later on... fun to see the "technology" changes way back then
well then, id 5 x2? -- the lunatic and the lunatic with a diff. final consonant
what i love is going though those pictures on glass plates at the antique shpooe
like most people my age my first camera was a brownie
thanks! that greyed out the box on the left
i know; i love that and old books. i love the smells
ahh..the old book smell;))))
when was that nan?
i have several tomes with that scent atm
ic 6 -- compound word -- very popular guy at the curling rink
you really like to rub it in, don't you, c
lol -- probably around 1950
there is an old warehouse that a book guy owns and the first floor is just books and books and books. he runs an old heater and plays ambient classical music. a wonderful place to spend a nasty day
got the ic 6 - thanks nan, my grandfather's occupation
i got my first in 1955 nan
sound like a good place to me:)
we have a guy near here who has the entire second floor of a old barn just crammed with books;)
it is. it's the sounds and oooo the smells
going to be on my way -- back at the flip :) Have a great day everyone
I can see it crossy
who was here the nite we were discussing eidetic imagery?
bye nan
on the main floor you hang your coats on this endless row of hooks and wipe your feet on mats
oh, i'm loving this
no hydro he opens the big old hay loading door when the weather is nice and uses naptha lamps when it is not,but it runs mostly daytime hours oly
sounds wonderful
then we wait till spring for him to open once again;)
ive spent 4 hours in there once lol
with the clear picture from your descriptives, it feels as tho i'm there. *sniffing books*
that's all? only a few times I've spent more than that, on a pre-winter dank cold day.
lol, always end up bringing old chaff bits into the car on my shoes afterwards
lol
crossy is waiting till may first with relish;)
lol
i even have a shelf cleared off for trade
you crack me up... do you always speak of yourself in the 3rd person?
only in here cause crossy knows it makes the ladies smile;0
reminds me of old Ted Danson show, Becker...
everyone loves the fool;)
really?
oh i'm sorry... were you implying you are a fool? in that case, yes lol
first trick is to make the ladies smile.i would make a total idiot of myself just to see my lady smile;)
aw, lucky lady
17 years later and i still love to hear her laugh
acting a fool is not the same as being one
i was just happy to find a brain when I met my husband
indeed pug
he was really upset when i'd verbalized that to him, because he was thinking along different lines lol
FIREWORKS!
i am incognito
yaa for smooth!!
WOOOOOOOOOO HOOOOOOOOOOOOO FOR PAPPA! YOU DID IT!! YAY FOR YOU! SPEECH SPEECH *band starts playing the victory song*
lol there is our adhd:)
lol not feeling overly dramatic today, are we? ;)
guess it's time to start thinking of supper... it's so light out I didn't realize it's almost 6pm! and I haven't even begun to think about supper!
and now I gotta scram! take care all!
***passing the valium to ADHD******
someone finished yesterday and was verry sad you were not there to cheer them at the finish
actually I had a tuff day and felt rather crummy, until I came here and the chat was making me laugh, so I guess I've got my groove back.

Hi
howdy nef
cana body get a clue for either of the PY's?? please?
*can a
medical jargon for septic
and pl
I was here a few minutes ago and entering words like crazy and had posted in chat and NOTHING was added! Babble said I wasn't logged in! So I had to LOG OUT and then log back in!
:(( poor nef
and if you aren't versed in medical jargon?? :(
py+ an**** means im low in iron
I was posting how I'd be adding words and my DH would call me away to do some tasks again; like now he wants me to run to the pharmacy for him again!
is he ill Nef? Hi everyone
Mo, he has MS and can't drive anymore. So, I'm off to the pharmacy agin I guess. :-/
sorry for the typos. BBS
oh Nef, I am so sorry.
hurry back, you'll be missed
thx crossy - got it - have a big bite of bacon pie, on me!
:))))
does anyone have the ec 7/40? If so, please may I have a clue?
ec + vowel + **** - rhymes with h*** & seek
thanks Bo, off to look
then plural
thank you, got both of them
Mom, your icon -LOL
thank you Bo. My dad sent me a bunch of ads from the 1930's and each week I am using one as my icon
WHen you say you have a wonderful husband of 27 years, does it mean you have been
really goes well with our personal eating habits today, no?
married that long or that he is 27 years old?
very much so Bo
LOL
lol Kaplan, we have been married 27 years.
and Kap - who is the lovely in your icon?
Shoot, I was hoping you had your own little Ashton Kutcher.
Tallulah Bankhead.
oh no Kaplan, he is 55
shoulda known that - a real beauty
If I ever get another chance, I am going to find a young one.
And how sick does that sound if it were coming from a man?
age is a state of mind - no problem with younger, either way
I'm kidding- I don't think I would bother dating anyone.
I don't know Kaplan, how sick is it? I don't pay any mind to age with people
although I don't think i would like one only 2 years older than my oldest child
When men say they are looking for a much younger woman it has an ick factor but if a woman says she wants a hot young guy we say "You go girl!"
I don't actually think all these things I'm saying. I'm just tired and not into the grid. DOn't mind me.
rough day today, Kaplan?
No, just I woke up too early bcause of my damn cat
around 6 a.m.?
I could kick her out of the bedroom altogether, but she's cute at night
she would just paw at the door then
My husband usually gets up early, but when he sleeps in till 7 she gets pissed
WOrese- she would cry.
ah sounds like Ziggy our cat. He has the most pitiful mew
My cat sits in front of the house at about people-coming-home-from-work time, and meows at them
Whore-cat.
Works the street.
lol Kaplan
LOL
heigh ho
{{Dorens}} hello. glad your electric is back on
yes, thanks mom me too. now if i could just get the governor to reverse his new budget, and I have a job next year, i'd be all set. amazing how we take things for granted
oh no, you are going to lose your job? I am so sorrly
sorry*
my district is losing 800,000 dollars.. lots of programs probably being cut, including guidance
not to worry! the government is here to take care of everybody! :)
Guidance counselors are needed more than ever now a days
hah! i'm five years from retirement, being forced into it too early.. won't get the benefits i would have if i were there five more years.
and yes, mom, i agree with you on that... maybe halftiime, not full time, but certainly needed
Oh Dorens, I hate to hear that
amen! to the need Dorens
well, there's a chance... it isn't written in stone yet. but it is very likely... if they can't get the money, they do need to make cuts. this is just shameful.... all over the state of New Jersey
I hope they can find the money. I think it is the same just about everywhere
ah dorens not laid off yet?
funny.. i thought i was safe... watching people lose jobs all over.. didn't think it would be me.
no, not yet jmc, but we got the specific numbers in our district and it doesn't look good ..
too bad -- hope it turns out okay
Just reading what you wrote Dorens. Couldn't agree with you more about Jersey. About ready to leave for a board meeting tonight in the town where I teach. Nervous to hear what they are going to tell us, but it doesn't look good.
will certainly keep you informed. principal (she's a friend) said it will be a roller coaster between now and june... there is a little hope, but not much
what do you teach angelina?
sending good thoughts your way Dorens and you too Angelina
sweetie is home. gonna scoot be back in a bit
our board budget meeting is tomorrow.... they heard this morning that they can present a budget to the town asking to waive the cap and go up to ten percent... which is what I heard they may do. i doubt strongly that the town would pass such a budge
bye mom
I teach full day kindergarten, but there's a lot of talk about cutting the full day program and going half day or possibly even cutting kindergarten
Thanks Mom!
they're talking about full day going to half.. it is the last cut on the chopping block. my job goes before that. (which i do understand). good luck to you
what district?
Thanks. I teach in Runnemede, down in South Jersey.
HELLO FRIENDS!!!!! *very happy mama look*
you have tenure?
hi stid. glad you're happy. angelina and I are happy for you. but we might be losing our jobs
*scanning chog* oh doren, that is rotten news.
Yes, I do, fortunately, but I will have to bump someone else, which isn't so good.
Hi Stid.
no. none of it is good
our school lost its counselor this year, she was already halftime last year, and this year... it's so hard on the kids when this happens.
Good luck to you Dorens. Will keep you in my thoughts. I'm off to my board meeting.
I just saw your post angelinaxox and that is going to happen in my district too.Not only kindergarten, but pre-k too. Pre-k and kindergarten teachers have to post into another grade. Some may have to teach 6th
good luck angelina
(((angelina))) good luck.
Yikes, Min. I really hope not. and thanks all for the good wishes.
i didn't think i'd want to go back to the classroom, but when i think of no job at all... it is just so scary
*looks in her world saving bag of tricks for a solution*
Anyway, good luck with your job angelinaxox! *POOF*
:-[
I agree doren -- and the thing of it is, from my perspective, is that qualified, experienced people like you, once out of the schools, are not likely to return. Leaving only people like me, new to the profession, to fill in the gaps when they start hiring again.
hey jmxc
*co**s up empty handed*
oops. jmC. *sigh* just got home, and it was a long day.
and as a beginner, I will NEED people like you to hold my hand and help me navigate things the first couple of years!
i kinds like jmxc seems kinda jolly
that is a big assumption stid, that they will start hiring again?
eventually dorens
well stid, you have my hand to hold, no problem. and i imagine people like me will volunteer if retired, to try to help out
recessions/depressions don't last forever
Within 2-5 years, they will doren, because with fewer staff/teachers, the class sizes and support groups will be too big to do the kinds of "quality" work they are mandating.
the governor of new jersey has a personal vendetta against public schools though
The public will begin to see the problems with "business" solutions for education.
that's too bad, doren. *bright look* you could move here! we have a year-round temperate (if wet) climate, and pretty scenery. And me, of course. *grin*
but if i retire (which i think i will be forced to do) then how do i reapply in 2-5 years when they decide they do need a guidance counselor? and how likely are they to hire a 60 + person when there are younger (=cheaper) folks around
but we don't have a princess phoebe...
oh stiddie

Hello all.
May I please have a clue for de6-21? Thanks.
You may have anything you de6/21, gap.
thanks, Jac; I did get that one (it was what I was trying to type anyway, but was in the wrong box!
Thanks much, Jacula.
y/w, both.
I love the colors of your bottles, Jac
is that J used in any words today Jac?
Nef - yes, they are nice. Blue bottles look particularly nice sparkling in the light.
Not as I recall, Nef. No.
thanks, I keep trying, so thought I'd ask!
I'm here to clue, so ask away.
I haven't listed yet; so I don't know what I need yet
NBT and i am outta here, bye bye all POINK
Bye Gwen!
BBS. Just going to try calling the cat again; try to dissuade him from having a night on the tiles. (No, not Babbling, LOL.)
'Bye Gwen.
Cat's either out of earshot or ignoring me.:-(
probably both. Does the cat stay out at night often?
He does in summer, but not in winter. He's neutered, but you'd never know it by the way he roams and fights.
well, at least he's neutered so he's not propgating litters all over
He's more likely hanging around to see if he can get a go at the lamb bone he knows I'll be putting out for the foxes.
you feed the foxes?
ken does too. there's a beautiful fox who visits each morning... loves turkey carcass, etc
Speaking of male cats, the last word I got in today's grid was to6/27, a word I monkeyed. It refers to a small version of a large food fish. Male cat + fish.
hung-up on ra6/21 - 2nd one - anybody can clue that for me?
Nef - most of us around here do. It helps stop them raiding hutches and hen houses.
yes, i needed a clue for that.. couldn't monkey it
bojazz. what you want is a plural of the one before
ra6.21 is the plural of the ra5.12 before it, bojazz.
in 6/24 pls
i'll swallow my pride and ask for the first ca 6/24 please
Or, if it's the first ra6.21 it's 'lifted up' or 'reared'.
what a jury does, in 6
in6.24 - to accuse or bring a judgement against.
ca + little rodents, change a consonant towards the end
ty Dorens & Jacula
there are 2 6/21's - need the last one
Dorens - sounds like a cross between a photographer's tool and a flimsy top that starts with che.
thanks dawg and jac. between the two of you i got it! (for fireworks)
bojazz - the first clue I gave you was for the 2nd ca6.21. The plural of the ca5 before it.
'evening, folks
Well done Dorens and y/w. *~*~*~*~
Good evening, welki.
whooooo hoooooo Dorens!!
hi welki
ca? or you meant ra? Jac
YAY, Dorens! WTG!!!
ca, bojazz.
hi welki, lbd, and bojazz (and Dorens too)
working on ra - ra6/21, 2nd one
YAY for Dorens!!
No, ra! Sorry!
51 left here, laundery all done
hi Peri
ra6/21 rhymes with last ca6/24
Incidentally, the reason I don't let the cat gnaw the lamb bones is because he broke one of his incisors doing so in the past.
76 left here, haven't listed yet
Hi peri.
2nd ra6.21 is like the 2nd ca6,21. both are plurals
thx dawg - got it! :)
Nef - you're doing well. Keep at it.
Peri - I'm feeling really virtuous 'cos my laundry's all done too. Washed and ironed, and put away.
greetings to all! 46 left -
Mind you, laundry is a never-ending cycle. If only the family would take up naturism... they don't seem keen.
Hello jmb.
hi jacula - naturism would sure help with laundry!
...And if only dust would stop feeling the need to settle and just go off travelling. How much easier life would be. *sighs*
jmb - yes, but I suppose we'd get through mountains of tissues due to all the colds and chills we'd catch being naturists in the UK. LOL
hello all! *hiding eyes from naturists in chog*
hi stiddy
hey LBD! so... yesterday the creative writing lesson (8th grade) fell flat. Today (no surprise, 5 different classes) reviewing how to write a bibliography was not a huge hit. HOWEVER...
Hi stid. There are no naturists - it's too cold here in UK.
I did get some feedback that it was better and more useful information than the first time it was presented (by a different teacher, not Language Arts) earlier in the year.
so I survived, and learned a lot, and it was good. I am very very happy I am trying out this challenging age group this year.
i'm not sure there's an "exciting" way to present bibliography!
Stid - I guess writing a bibliography is not the most exciting kind of writing, but your students do need to know how to do it.
too cold, Jac? but it's sunny and warm (ish)! LOL
we've had sun, wind, rain, snow and just grey skies today.
yes, it was a necessary lesson. I think one thing that helped was explaining that I don't like writing bibliographies either, and then showing me the 27-item one I did for the paper last quarter! LOL (theirs only has to have three entries)
sorry about the typoese, I can barely read the computer screen today. eyes are so tired.,
and figners are just out of order, too.
you need to rest those tired eyeballs and let the monkeys fend for themselves! lol
You should see the bbg my daughter's got to do for her dissertation. Your student's would quail, stid.
true, but I am not even to halfway... *sigh*
evenin babblers.
hi red
stid - a night on the Babble tiles or a migraine? You choose.
hey red!
*stern Mama look*
Hi red.
yep. that's what I was showing the kiddos -- (and I already have the migraine, Jac)
EEK! I did an extraneous apostrophe.
LOL Jac!
Stid - you get far too many migraines! What does your doctor say?
Jacula! Its Ok, no need for eeek!
back to finish. ce 7 clue please?
clue please for the first of the CA6/24's--just after the jewelry 5?
they're all like aftershocks from the major migraine I had in February, which was the first I had had in MONTHs.

Oh gosh, so so tired! 90 left.
pug - don't forget to throw them some bananas before you leave.
indeed they earned it
red - it's not compulsory to finish.
yes, but I am still trying to eat dinner, so its ok....soon enough I shall start an actual weekend off.
Lord knows I don't finish unless I really feel like it!some days don't give a damn
Help me, please. I cannot find my last word. TO 6/27
Good Evening everyone
Hello Momn.
gramma - that was my last word found, too. to6.27 = male cat + food fish.
to6--male cat + ** Liver Oil
pug - that's a better clue.
ooops ***
TY and good night.
what kind of word is that!!!!
a funny one
a very odd one
red - apparently it refers to the smaller types of that fish, which can get huge. To* Thumb fish.
woweee....I love fish!
I didn't realise how large that fish could be until I saw the heads drying on racks up in the volcanic mountains in Icelands. (Boy, do they STINK!)
The dried heads are apparently sent to Africa and to Portugal.
So...I just joined as a "pro" how do I get the little body and flag
eeewwwww
*Iceland, not lands.
how impressive! heads to africa.
ty for all the good clues.
need co 5 first one please.

I'm very very slow. I've been at it an hour and a half, and this is great progress for me. *gigantic eyeroll* But it's still fun
And I learn lots of words that I will never ever have an opportunity to use in real life. LOL!
i feel embarrassed...i have been on and off for 5 hours. i would say you made awesome progress.
But YOU have 18 left :-) nothing to be embarrassed about. I'm good at 4 letter words. Do you have the di 6? I could use a clue.

hello babblers
poor tim. well, I hope he unfusses soon.
hey MPItt
Hi, MP
37 left for me...
Hey stid! I think I might need some Pepto if you've got extra, my dinner isn't sitting well. I think it's this grid.
*hands over pepto and a glass of water* I hate the taste of this stuff.
Maybe Tim feels the same way? OR is ready for a nap? I could go for one of those.
Pretty sure my diaper doesn't need changed though.
need help with three tiles please. the E on the second row down please, and both i tiles in the middle row...
*wonders if tim is offended or amused...*
I know I am ready for a nap, but need to stay up until the boys are in bed
When I was a kid, my mom would say, well it's gonna help either way. Either it'll soothe your stomach and help you feel better, or it tastes so bad, you'll puke and you'll feel better.
sounds about right, tf. we were a kaopectate family -- I never minded the taste much, but my brother hated it.
I guess if you REALLY need it, it's not so bad.
Oh gosh, is Tim not a little kid? Please tell me it's not Jellen's husband or boyfriend or something.
He's my fiance...
re5-12 the 2nd please.......thanks
um, fiance, tf! *grin* it's okay, we often talk about spouses this way, too.
OMG seriously?
I don't have the list, so no good with clues tonight, sorry folks.
Stid said when her boys were little, so I thought this was your son we were talking about. I am soooo embarrassed.

YAY peach! see you next time
now I have a 7 too!
Stid you wanted the 2nd e? It's an anagram of March 15th
thanks tf *thinking*
without the plural
oooh. nice clue! got it. I think.
It's what you call your driver's license +e?
down to 88 words, that's halfway.
or e + not ego or superego +e
don't have NBT though. *thinking*
I am profoundly bad at giving clues, sorry. :'-)
THer's also e+ thing you sing into
nice clues, tf, I am exceedingly tired and not reading very fast tonight. I know I need to see the optometrist again, but down on docs at the moment so avoiding it.
all of these are helping! :-)

I need the last mi4/5...just can't see it :o(

i + abbrev for spot in the center
oh! no, it's probably Ebenzer Scrooge w/out the last letter
that's from the upper i, but thanks tf -- npw down to 82

thanks MPitt!
No, he's upset with me...
I'm really sorry Jellen, I just didn't understand.
He's just very tired...
*sad mama look* I am sorry Jellen. *groveling more*
I have a small foot and a big mouth, and I'm sorry anyway.
any clues for the very last mi4/5
I think it's the scrooge clue MPitt, hold on, I'll grab the list to check.
yep. a descriptive word for a person who doesn't like to part with money, only drop the "r" at the end, MPitt
Oh my MP that is a very funny pic. Is that your dog?

G'night, stid...
