We called fire brigade but luckily owners were there and had called them. Only one horse in the stables at the time which they got out, the others were in the field (which runs from them and behind our land).

No, no-one hurt Katie, and only one horse in stable next door which they got out OK. Owner said there was £23,000 worth of hay/straw which had just been delivered though. Didn't like to ask about insurance at that time of morning!

I must tell you about the funeral we were at yesterday. It was one of husband's old bosses who had died - 86 and had still been doing a bit of TB testing up until this winter. The church was full to overflowing with farmers and we sang 'All things bright and beautiful'. It was sweet. And the surgery closed for 2 hours as a mark of respect - unprecedented!
awwww how lovely! And wow, great respect! And did every chihuahua have an injured paw during the 2 hours?
We did leave two of the younger vets in the surgery to man the phones in case of emergency, but it looked as though most farmers were at the funeral.

And the normal surgery hour (2-3) was cancelled, but an extra hour tacked onto the evening one.
He was a nice man. He had great difficulties pronouncing L (like Alex Ferguson) so he used to leave messages saying 'Tell S that there's a wam wam coming into the surgery (a ram lamb).

One of the farms husband goes to is overrun by cats. The farmer lives in his car, the cats have taken over the house and the yard has stacks of cat food tins. He insists on checking under husbands car before he leaves to make sure that no cat has stowed away.

sort of. I have to write the truth, whether that's what they want to hear or not. We are being asked to evaluate something. So I'm evaluating it!

that sux indeed, lady. I didn't even try for scholarships this year -- was too upset about the way the program made me feel and too worried about my prospects for continuing.
Right now, though, I am on a temporary "can do" kick -- I think I have a chance at continuing... just need to think long and hard about the way that I will engage with actual school in the winter quarter when I won't have any contact with children I am teaching.

excellent new show on HBO -- all about New Orleans post-Katrina -- amazing cast and writing and music -- they're using a lot of local musicians and others who aren't necessarily actors . . .
Treme is a section of New Orleans with a really high concentration of low-income folks, and lots of musicians
sounds good but only have basic cable (spend too much time watching tv and babbling as it is)
my niece lived in the 9th ward before during and after
every time I decide to drop HBO they come along with a new show like this one! :-)

things are looking up, I thought I had replied to your e-mail, so many to reply too, I am not goign to start the classes until fall term I need more time to adjust, a death a move and a loss of your job and income are enough to deal with at this time.
I am glad you are taking time for that adjustment. Too much "new" is really awful.
I am down to 84 listless... trying to decide whether to stay logged in and take mini-breaks from the little tasks I have left, or whether to just log out and focus so I can get to sleep quicker.
I figure when I can go a week without crying then I am ready for drastic changes, well more changes LOL

ah, "retirement" seems SO far away. I will want to teach for at last 20 years after I get certification next year... and if my health holds out, longer even than that.
yes starting over at 51 is not easy But at the time I choose that career (in home adult foster care) I didnt think about the heart ache and the stress it would cause mentally. It is going to be hard finding something now since I am definately not going back into that field of work 20+ years was enough
and of course I have no benefits no retirement plan, things like that you dont think about. You just think you are going to work forever LOL. well I had benefits for awhile but they took all that away when the cost of health insurance went through the roof.
that is true, Mel. I am younger (not by much) and realize that even at my age it could be tough to find a permanent position... but it's worth making the effort, I think.

yes teaching is a great career if I was a few years younger I would most definately go that way
I know that Bugs is a paraprofessional, mel -- around here, sometimes it is easier to get those positions (and you don't have to plan lessons or do parent conferences...) and you get benefits.
Pay isn't as good, but it's something.
my kids want me to sign up for SSI for my fibromyalgia but I am not ready to throw in the towel yet. I am going to see how I do taking classes and being able to sit through those and then decide
I will look into it, I was actually a headstart teacher many years ago, but only took early child development classes to do that. so not much in the way of 'real' teaching classes
That is a good idea, to try the classes -- there are now early childhood certifications? Or is that what you have? The current trends in education look like early childhood ed is going to get a BIG push.

I have a certificate but I bet it is outdated it was over 20 years ago I got it
Sometimes the older certificates were "permanent" and can be reinstated. It's worth checking out. That is, if you want to work with the younger set...
anyway, I am getting seriously sidetracked and need to focus on getting one last lesson for this quarter written.
