morning all
hello Sprite
hey flosey, nice crystals!
hi sprite
beautiful icon sprite
thanks sprite
thanks flosey :) Hi Andree!
Sprite, your soccer team's looking good.
yeah, I know... and the utter madness around it is huge. I am not happy. Looks like we will have a Germany - Netherlands finale :(
Go Netherlands!!
is the country going crazy sprite
even after all this time, people still bring up WW2 when there are Germany - Netherland things. Let's hope all will be peaceful.
totally, Andree.
When I was a kid, I remember that Hollan was always touted as 'family' - perhaps because of William of Orange being one of our kings, and also because, in the east end of London, there were a lote of Dutch people who came over during the war.
ooh i hope you win
it is vice versa too, we in Holland feel a kind of kinship with England.
Sprite, I was a little kid during WWII, in east end of London, and it's still fresh in my mind. My Dad used to say he knew ordinary German soldiers just wanted to go home to their families, as he did, but it's buried too deep in my little EastEnd Jewish mind.
We had a small piece of land on Canvey Island, in the mouth of the Thames; the Dutch had reclaimed much of the land, by a series of dykes, in the 16th or 17th century. Plus, two such small countries conquering much of the world (I'm into world domination, if England's at the top).
War wounds are deep, especially psychological ones. Memories are still very much alive in our family. And yet it is true, most German soldiers were young boys who'd much rather been home.
I secretly hope we lose, Andree. Not half the damage if we lose. Winning seems to make people lose their minds and morals completely.
better not tell that to your fellow countrymen, lol
lol no
i was born during ww2 and grew up when it was fresh in our minds, some hurdles are hard to conquer
We have basketball idiots, in LA - some of the fans rioted after the Lakers won ... bloody idiots.
it is special, isn't it Christine. Maybe being so small made us look outside.
hello all :)
hi mrp
Pini and Jillibus discovered they are 'cousins', so you and I can be sisters.
hi sprite -- of course, Canada feels very connected to the Netherlands, what with the royalty coming here during WW2.
Andree, my father was shot in his leg on Liberation Day, by a German soldier who got crazy. He was a small boy then. The wound never healed, bone was damaged. Even though common sense dictates otherwise, he has never forgiven the Germans as a whole.
Hi mrp! Long time! How's Maddie doing today?
I'd like that, Christine :) Hi mrP
hey jilli :) Nice crystals
Always loved the idea that the Royals could ride their bycicles through the town.
hi andree, jilli, sprite et al
thanks, sprite -- your painting is gorgeous!
oh yes, a very strong connection between the netherlands and Canada.
cleaning like a demon... thought I would slack off by doing babble
thanks jilli :)
where's Lickety today, mrp?
what are you cleaning for when its school hols?
My uncle used to say there'd never be world peace as long as there weere survivors from any conflict. However, that being said, my Mum and I are/were the only ones that carried the grudge past the decade, and I've necer drilled my feelings into myt daughter.
i took the oldest grandchildren and their friends to luna park yesterday
well, 27 left and bedtime -- guess I won't wait for mrp to answer my question!
bye jilli, sleep well
that is a good thing, Christine.
sleep well, jilli, and dream even better *hug*
Oh, sprite -- I've copied some of your upcoming icon themes in my profile so that people who aren't around when you appear can find them. I hope that's okay with you.
Hello everyone - I have an en8, does anyone have the start of the other two?
of course, jilli. I also have a link to my profile, that might help too.
hi City
hi Sprite :)
Yes, I know, but the link isn't easy to find -- I've often given it but people don't remember.
they would have to make a bookmark
I wish there were a link up above in Resources, but it never got changed from Babbler's.
maybe I can have DrG put it under Friends of Babble?
People can't be bothered making bookmarks.
Maybe -- but of course he's changing everything -- or didn't you know?
yeah Haz sent me a copy of the email some people got. I have emailed a couple of suggestions but heard nothing back.
i hate change, must be a sign of age!!!
let's wait until the new babble is there and then see where we could make the themes easily accessible, ok?
you can see what's up at http://twitter.com/BabbleOverlord
Andree, I am a bit younger but I don't like this whole change thing either ;) Especially because it will not work with Lickety's browser. I am so used to the chat window. I hope Jamie will finally change that aspect of his site!
He reports regularly on Facebook too.
twitter? I don't use twitter. Is it easy?
11 to go and they'll have to wait for tomorrow, goodnight everyone
night flosey
bye flosey
I'm with you, sprite -- I love BabbleExpert and am very sad that it won't be compatible.
I don't use twitter either but that's all you have to do, just click on that link.
i don't use expert but still don't see why something that isn't broken needs to be fixed
I see you the site you gave that he will "incorporate as much of Lickety's stuff as I can." I hope he got in touch with Lickety about that.
It takes you to Jamie's spot, and he has posted links to the diagrams etc.
I see on* the site
I hope so too -- wish mrp was reading the chat -- she might know
from the looks of it, Andree, it is going to be made easier to play. For instance you will be able to rotate the grid. Less need to push your brain.
sprite, my brain is mush and needs pushing
I like a challenge, that is part of my love for babble. If it becomes too easy to play, I won't play anymore. We will see.
and on that note i must go organise myself some dinner, bye all
enjoy, Andree!
my brain is mush too and won't improve unless I go to bed so goodnight!
Good morning/evening all. Just to add a word to the conversation, I appreciate Babble expert as well, but this morning is a case in point - some features are redundant if Lickety doesn't post a list.
hello hello :)
Yes, but there's still a link to morewords and such in Expert.
Hi Haz, hi Ata
LIckety has made himself indispensable to many babblers, maybe Dr_G is just introducing features to relieve the pressure on one man, who, after all, is not a babbler and who does it out of a positive feeling for babble and babblers.
Ata! Hello, how are you?
Lickety is very loyal in posting clues. I don't think he should be expected to do them every day.
Agreed, jillibus, that's why I said some features are redundant, not all.
So hi and bye!!! Bed calls! *poof*
actually, the only feature I use is the chat feature. But that is one great feature.
tired! Got back from sister's on SUnday evening, then ended up spending 13 hours dive marshalling a few miles off FOlkestone yesterday!
It's expecting a great deal of anyone to expect them to do this every day, I agree, sprite, but there is uproar and consternation when he doesn't.
Goodnight, jillibus.
Hope you can get some rest, Ata. How do you marshall a dive?
you wave your arms around a lot and write down Important Statistics
sad enough. Babble should be a challenge, and the clues should be considered a bonus for those who want them. Maybe the next step will be posting the actual words next to the grid?
Can I ask a question of the long-time Babblers? Before Lickety, was it SOP to give clues with the first two letters & stats, or has that arisen from Lickety's list? Just curious...
Did someone answer you? mo8/75 and of8/75.
it was ok, city. but people didn't ask every 3 seconds
Thank you Christine :)
we gave the clues that way, back in 2004, and I think that was pre-Licketty.
I was just wondering about the format, Ata, just a moment of idle curiosity
in the early days people did their best not to ruin the fun/challenge for others. Clues were ok if they required some thinking. And as Ata said, asking clues was only done after a lot of thinking with the own brain.
I think the format kind of evolved among babblers themselves, and then Brandyjack incorporated into a list that he posted.
hello, I'm back.
it was more contributary - when someone found that last P word or C word or whatever, they'd give a hint in the log
Hello, ruby.
the format is from before Lickety. Brandyjack started posting full 2nd letter stats on a daily base.
Hello Sprite; I've been thinking about you a lot lately, especially after "being in" Holland on the weekend via the Tour de France. And then the soccer victory last night! Go Oranje!
hi rubyfoo
LIckety's list, being so accessible, changed babble completely, in that babblers suddenly began to expect to finish. That wasn't the case before.
hello Haz
hello Ata.
hello Ata.
hello hello Ruby!
Ah, it's nice that it's evolved like that... I'm interested to see if it's made some sort of official standing on the changed site
Could I please have a hug? Husband is being really nasty, for a change and I am so upset that I'm trembling and on the verge of tears!
exactly Haz. Now people are mad at Lickety when there is no list, because they feel robbed of their 'right' to finish the grid.
The expectation of being able to finish, led to the idea that you had failed if you didn't finish, and that led to people asking/demanding more and more help.
poor ruby! *hugs*
:::hugs::: ruby, even though we don't know each other that well... hope that's okay, dear.
The stats I really liked (which we don't have anymore) were the first letter stats. When somebody managed to finish, he posted the total number of words and how many words started with a certain letter. Letter, not tile!
((rubyfoo))
Big hugs, Rubyfoo -- has he ANY idea how large a family you have in Babble-land?
Good morning, and {{hugs}} to ruby.
thank you
hiya Sally
On the other hand, keeping babble as difficult as possible doesn't put money in the babble account - money has to be considered.
he hates family: his, mine, even my wonderful virtual one
Good morning, Sally.
hello Sally
Well, poof on him.
On the other hand, Haz, I think it might be the spirit of cooperation that makes the community here so special; it has had a positive effect, too.
well I suggested to drG that some options, like that stats, would be made hideable. So you can choose your own amount of challenge. Should be SO easy to integrate.
since I stopped looking at my ranking and despair of finishing, I am enjoying the grid more
Just read back a bit. Sprite, some of these things like being able to rotate the grid, are options. I sometimes play Scramble on my phone, and I very rarely rotate it although I could.
City, actually the cooperation was even better before. We needed eachother more and we knew better how to help eachother.
Choclits on the way to Rubyfoo
me too, Sprite. I'm worried that these clue hints won't be hideable
thank you christine
that would be really stupid, if you don't mind my saying so, Ata. Nothing is as easy to do as to make a certain part of a site hideable. Lickety did a great job with that.
Yes, the spirit of cooperation has always existed in babble, and a spirit of tolerance as well.
I hope so! I said so on |DrG's pics, and of course everyone else just said it looked amazing, and now I feel all killjoy-y!!
Fair point, Sprite and Haz :)
since I never got to the point of using lists, maybe this won't change anything for me. My goal is to reach at least half and some days, even more. But the only 2 or 3 times I've finished, in more than 6 months, FM and Haz and Hego carried me across the finish line
it was the same thing with the pro change. We were invited to be critical, but were expected to pay compliments.
There's a line between giving the customer what they want, and 'pandering' ... if Babble becomes too easy, it loses it's appeal for me.
am right with you on that, City
I can't imagine, though, that DrG would sell out the game like that - the whole point of this damn grid is to drive a person nuts. Lose that, what have you got? ;)
has he actually made it easier?
what if you're already nuts?
anyway, usually the hubbub about changes to come is bigger than the actual change, so I will wait and see. I attributed as best as I could, the rest is out of my hands anyway.
We don't really know yet ruby. Progress in the Babble Community group on Facebook.
Sprite, you contributed, not attributed.
ah! Thank you. When does one attribute?
when quoting something
When you quote someone.
When you are saying that someone did something, giving someone credit for an action.
I attributed the quote "I love Terra" to you, Sprite
wonderful. Thanks all :) See, that is one thing that makes Babble special. People who are willing to teach!
BTW, Sprite, was that Terra who ran out in the road during the Tour? (Only kidding)
One has attributes - good qualities as well as attributing something to someone else
Got to go start the non-babbling part of the day - bye, folks. Happy wording :)
hi anike
bye city
hehehe he would never do that, rubyfoo. Because in places like that he would be on the leash!
Bye, City.
hi anike, thanks
bye City, have a good day.
did anybody else see it? I felt sorry for the poor dog!
Hi everyone. Fireworks .
was the dog ok?
gratz anike
they never said, but several riders were mildly hurt!
Well done, anike.
lol rubyfoo, you remind me of the clip of Living Doll, by Cliff Richard and the Young Ones... "But I feel sorry for the elephant!"
congrats anike
TY. Just remembered the load of washing I did this morning - still in the machine! Had better hang it out.
morning all
hi Kallia
bye anike
thought I'd let those of you who were so kind about my cat the news
hi kallia
I was just about to ask, Kallia.
do tell, Kallia
not good, she has an aggresive carcinoma of the tongue...just off the phone from the vet
Oh dear.
oh poor baby
oh no!
oh am so sorry, Kallia. How awful.
So sorry Kallia.
is she in pain?
nothing to be done apart from keeping her comforatabele#
that is so sad
she doesn't seem to be, sleeping a lot, but she is eating a little
{{{{Kallia}}}}
is she able to eat? Now is the time for her favorites: salmon, caviar, cream, whatever she loves
brb
I am sorry, Kallia. But rich foods might turn her stomach...
sorry, I didn't think of that.....
(Worried that ruby's cat food bills might ruin most of us)
she can only eat a little at a timel, and she is having very finely minced chicken mostly
City 17 Dweller - I like the quote on your profile ... I'm re-reading, and re-re-reading many books from my childhood. Old friends.
if nothing can be done, are you considering letting her go soon?
The time will probably come when she won't be able to eat any more - you'll know when to make the next move.
well the vet says as long as she is comfortable and eating.....as soon as that goes yes we will let her go
if she is willing and able to eat, it probably means she isn't miserable.
she seems quite content, although very quiet
thanks guys, really helped to be able to come here and talk to you
I'm glad you told us, I had been wondering.
weas waiting until I heard
How old is she, Kallia?
had been thinking about you and kitty, so am glad to know. Sad the news is bad though.
that's why we're here, I think, to support each other and give appropriate hugs and choclits!
8 and 1/2
Not old in cat terms at all.
Hugs for you and Poor-Puss.
very young compared to my last cat who lived until he was 19
{{kallia and kitty}}
poor little kit :(
she's sleeping on the laundry pile that was going in the wash....good excuse not to do it
I'm sure she's comforted by the scent of "her" humans
absolutely!
absolutely
ok, breakfast time. back a bit later!
See you later, Ata.
bye Ata, enjoy breakfast
bye ata
I'm going to make coffee
*hugs spritey*
back soon
:) *hugs right back*
nbt!
Back. Congrats ruby!
no, missed one :(
missed the left-hand i! but at least I got the e's....
got it!
wb Sally and gratz rubyfoo
I don't know what to do. Husband is back from his walk. Should I act like nothing happened? Or just hide
why, what did you do Ruby?
Stand up to him ruby! If he's horrible, just say, "don't speak to me like that" and walk away.
no, he was very nasty before, for no reason, and I walked away
You're a grown woman, ruby. We can't advise from a distance when we don't know body language or anything.
ah in that case tell him!
you're right, haz, but this is getting harder and harder and there aren't any options
fuss
whoops, sorry
From this distance, ruby, it seems he knows how to pull your strings and get to you. Don't take bullying in any form.
Then it's time to draw a line in the sand and say no more. You keep telling us the difficulties, you keep knocking back suggestions, we feel kind of helpless.
I'm with Haz on this.
me too
but you have helped a lot and I truly appreciate it.
I agree. There are always options. Some aren't pleasant or comfortable, but worth considering if things are that bad.
And, to be honest, I'm really not comfortable personally with giving advice like this because I don't know all the circumstances and I don't feel qualified.
but you sound wise, haz, I'm sorry that I made you uncomfortable
Haz is wise
No, it's my peronality, ruby.
please, babble friends, accept my apologies! I was just too upset this AM
peronality? new one on me lol
I've always been very uncomfortable with intense discussions of a personal nature on babble. I'm a private person, find it hard to be as open as many others.
sounds medical!
that's me exactly Haz
OK, I'm chastened!
no more public implosions
ruby, if a situation is upsetting you, try to sit down and analyse why. Write a list if necessary. Then try to analyse what you can do about it. Only you can do that, we have never met either of you.
So, it's not that it's just you who makes me uncomfortable, ruby, it's the whole idea of lots of people joining in to give advice that I find hard. It's just me.
hi all...is there any way to get the stats when someone is not online? I am so lost without dear Lickety.
You can implode or explode, ruby, all I'm saying is that I probably won't offer as much advice as others, not because I don't care, just because I don't feel qualified to tell you what to do.
I don't mind sharing of personal things. It is just hard to do more than being supportive and giving general advice based on personal experience.
I was on earlier and volleyball mom dee had posted, but she's not on now.
And to add to what Haz has said, on Babble you will get such conflicting advice.
ddb, if you go to rankings, find volley there, bring up her profile and the list might be there.
ddb4nana, you can get to profiles through the rankings page. Ifyou search for the name, you can still access the profile.
thanks haz
and sprite
but all of it is interesting and frequently I get great suggestions, e.g. Sally's pondnets
You're welcome, ddb, hope the search is fruitful.
that is true Sally, but that is true of any general discussion
different point of view can be inspiring too.
Clues are up
easy as pie when you know how to do it...oh, lickety, thank you!
Save your search, ddb!
yes, hi lickety
that's how I feel, Sprite!
hi Lickety.
Thank you lickety!
was wondering, Lickety, has DrG contacted you about the new Babble site?
Now, how far along had we got with the scheme to have ruby's husband kidnapped and held for ransom?
but who would be willing to pay?
bluebeard and the heron; that's more fun
you had just mentioned it Haz
well would Ruby want him back?
LOL sprite and Good morning all.
Exactly. Think of it as long-term house arrest.
otherwise we get stuck with him!
he's lurking around the garden, peeking in my studio door, but didn't come to apologize. I guess I shouldn't hold my breath!
hi everyone. back from the gym. please remind me to NEVER go there at 5pm again.
I know the solution. Let the man live with us here for a month. He will crawl back on his belly to France and rubyfoo and he will cherish her forever.
Where would we imprison him? Anyone have an uninhabited castle going spare?
We'd have to find some very gullible kidnappers.
hello FM; I've just been bad and imploded in the chog but am roundly chastized and will behave from now on
grannyrose, never EVER go to a gym at 5 pm. NEVER.
ouch rose, too many people?
I could build a padded cell in the PB
stinky?
hi FM :D
hello FM
No, don't feel chastised, ruby, I was just extricating myself from the responsibility of telling you what to do.
What? and leave him with all the chocolate?
Hello, FM.
oh no - he would be away from all he fun things
it's OK, it helps me to be able to talk about it
well if he's in a paded cell it would be another punishment, looking out at all the goodies and being unable to touch
I offer only once!
I thought the padded cell was for me!
full of 20-30 somethings.sooo slim.and working out like you wouldn't believe. and me.....5'3 and more on the front and back porches than i like to admit...
I'll put him on the next train, sprite
Said gullible kidnappers would be informed that Mr Ruby is worth a fortune, and to keep him happy in house arrest, they'd better have a TV tuned to sports channels 24/7.
Next time he peeks in your studio, ruby, put your tongue out at him to make him see what a child he's being! :-))
good decision, rubyfoo
Oh, and he's a strict teetotaller with a huge appetite for cream.
I like that Sally:)
lol Haz.
I think the sports channel wd make him hang himself!
LOL Haz
Result then ruby.
The perfect solution....
well maybe that's going a bit far then
I feel a little better
thank you all for trying to help me
Dr G is rather fond of the double F at the moment, isn't he.
The kidnappers would also be told that he loves herons with a passion so the cell would have pictures and statues of herons all around;
we can't, rubyfoo, only you can. But we can help lift your spirit a bit.
raofl
you certainly do that!
statues of heron with koi in their beaks
I feel chuffed because I got the English ti6 word myself
Yes, koi labelled 'Property of Mr Ruby'
late into chat...ruby can i ask? or should i just drop it?
nah poor man, he cannot be the only one to blame ;) It takes two to tango, as you say... or as we say: there is no way to pull rope on your own.
BTW, the fish love the nets and lurk about under it, smiling happily
thats good ruby.
ty for asking , granny, but I think I took up too much space as it is!
piff
*poof* will try to sort things out
ok, commiserations then, from the latest chat
Ruby has an unreasonable husband, we're just making plans to have him kidnapped to give her some peace.
thank you grannyrose. May I call you Rosie? It was the name of my first and much-loved chow chow.
ahhhh....can recommend an excellent person ti intervene....first name is Jack
fireflies! Grid looked easier than it was for me. Fun :)
Well done, sprite!
congrats sprite
Congrats spritey!
congrat sprite
Well done sprite!
go for it, ruby, call me anything but late for dinner....
thanks all! Have a good evening, night and/or day all.
*real poof*
WTG SPRITEY!!!!!
Bye sprite and ruby.
you off ruby? bye for now.
nite ruby and sprite
by sprite and ruby
it just drives me crazy when I can find a 7, but not the 4 before it! Any clues for the first pi 4/5 would be much appreciated.
a jetty, ddb
An evergreen?
hmmm...
or a wharf, where boats tie up
a beer?
pi - near the seashore.
pi + um, **, i don't know
ROSE
Perhaps a word more used in England? In the summer it is tradition to have shows at the end of the pi 4/5
heron**********
good one for me since I now need a big fish! Thanks for all the clues!
Sticks out, into the ocean, sometimes has rides & concessions on it.
yay, you got down time at the moment?
Or, sometimes people who have had too much to drink take a long walk off a short pi** and find themselves unexpectedly wet.
rofl haz
haven't heard that in an age Haz lol
goodness...am I the only one in the dark ;)
I did but I tried to callyou
hmmm, people, plural, does that mean i'm not the only one that does that?
I know, all sorts of expressions are being lost, aren't they?
No, granny, you are not alone.
herin, darn......what about friday next week?
No idea still no time table
I guess you have limited access to the ocean, in Utah?
I think you should start writing them down Haz, for posterity.
oh, good, haz, just hate to swim alone..
yes the rich tapestry of expressive english
Yes, but we do have the Great Salt Lake, so I still need that fish!
There are probably so many regional variations as well.
herin, can i call you tomorrow sometime?
Can I call youi? I am busy between 11am till when ever enrolment finishes then doctors at 210
tomorrow arvo then...when you can talk
Taking a quick break....
Yep between 11am and 1.30pm ok?
and i promise my phone will be fully charged AND turned on
TTFN Haz.
sounds good, herin
Is arvo morning or afternoon? It sounds like afternoon, but 11-1:30 would be morning-isg.
Later Haz
My friends father passed away and Telstra actually charged $100 for disconection
Did you get the pi4/5
christine, usually afternoon, but herin is giving me an indication about when.
that is disgusting Infernal
Hello everyone
Play Babble, learn new words and a foreign language - all this for a $15 lifetime subscription.
WHAT!!!! good grief! tell them to take to the ombudsman, herin. that's outrageous
hi lyn
It is so she told them to stick it some where unpleasant. this is a charge if you haven't had the phone on for less than 12 months
Christine that is true (especially when it is bablets)
I was reading something yesterday, and bablets kept jumping at me ... I'm obsessed
helped me with Scrabble the other day
When I was a kid, preTV days, my Mum always had us play word games - a long word at the top of the page, and see how many words it contains.
My parents used to tell me if Ididn't know a word then to look it up
I used to play that in science lessons lol...hated science
I used to sleep in science
I still do it. At the risk of sounding like an old fogey, I think today's children will be better educated as far as at-home-technology is concerned, but they'll miss out on pencil games and books.
well, im away. nite all, herin...just remembered i have appointments tomorrow at Cabrini. but not until 1215.
Ok I will call you Rose
ok, if i don't hear from you by the time i go in, will call you in between them
yep
Time for a cuppa and my book - just finished the third Stieg Larssen book, and I want to reread some parts, before it goes back to the library tomorrow..
*poof*
Poof for real. Goodnight, all.
bye christing

Ruby I lost the plot at someone online last night

Hello! And congratulations to gran.

Hi Hazel

Hello Annie. Big news - my older daughter has got engaged. I'm to be a mother in law!
happy news, Haz!
in laws are not always a good thing
Oh Haz, what wonderful news!! (two exclamation po5s are in order).
We're delighted, he's a very steady, dependable young man with a wonderful sense of humour.
congrats all round, Haz :)
congrats, haz -- great news! :-)
Haz, Couldnt ask for better.
We knew they wanted to get married, but he came and asked permission to propose. It was granted very gladly.
aaawwww

Greetings future M.in.L :) and hello all.
Hello FM!
Hi there, just having some lunch so thought I would have a quick chat.
Still as warm with you as before or has it eased off a bit?
perfect today, low 20s and it has bee overcast all day.
So you've got a bit of respite - that's good. I see the north of England is to get water restrictions.
yes I saw that on the news this morning. How is it with you?
pi
Still quite nice, no soaring temperatures but pleasant for walking.
The last time we had water restrictions was 1976.
As I don't have a hose pipe #i am not worried plus I got Andy to fill up the water butt yesterday so am happy.
haz -- congrats on your big news!!
Oh good - he came this week? Did he have a long list to work through?
Hello EvaN - thank you! We're delighted for both of them.
Hi EvaN, how are your plans coming along?
slowly but surely -- i actually got dear fiance to tell me last night that i can have whatever cake i want + that for the most part, he has given in to letting me decorate however i deem fit. :-D
It was a long list which started with 1/2 an hour in the garden helping me move pots about and sweeping up, then he did the house. Bliss.
LOL EvaN so what are you going to choose?
i have a few ideas... hehe
Dear fiance knows when he is beaten.
Oh come on , tantilise us :)
he has insisted upon a few minor details, and the rest are all up to me!
try to remember some one has to pay the bill for it
You're a proper ray of sunshine, Sadist.
well, for example, i want my bouquet to look almost exactly like this one, except id like dahlias instead of roses: http://ny-image0.etsy.com/il_43 0xN.93290668.jpg
i'm still paying the bills for getting married 7 years after the fact
Lovely EvaN but I meant re the cake!
Never mind flowers, FM needs food talk...
LOL
And speaking of food, on cue, husband arrives home looking for some. I'd better skedaddle -back shortly!
Toodles
ok, well, i am hoping to display the cake on stands that look like this:
http://tinyurl.com/33yzxdm
only, instead of a tiered cake or a single cake, i am interested in doing a cluster of cakes, like this: http://tinyurl.com/2washs7
we need to do a cake tasting, but i would like to do at least one cake/layer that is either carrot cake or spice cake -- something seasonal. then probably something simple like yellow cake too.
Love the idea!
phone is demanding my attention BRB.
some of the centerpieces will look something like this, only on a slightly larger scale: http://tinyurl.com/yk6m8bk oth ers will have a similar feeling, only with flowers also
ah starting to get the feel of the theme :) HAv eto go for a while as need to do some work stuff.
enjoy that. ;)
HI everybody. Could I have a clue for the NI 7/40 please?
dont have it yet, sorry!
ni7/40--ni plus "the incient caused a r*** between two friends, and plural ending
Incident caused a r*** between 2 former friends
ni + ift+s is what i se only 6 letters. if i make it ni + ri4+ s it is not acdcepted
ni**and plural
ni rhymes with r***
Sorry for bad clues. It's all I got.
Got it thanks Kap. Temple Owl, Ni plus cons and plural of what men wear round their necks.
ni7 rhymes with the 1950s
that's a much better clue.
afternoon all :) breaktime for me
NB!!!!!!!!
Hiya Nancy. I am already 13 minutes late back after lunch, so its Hi and Bye everybody.
*huggles and snoggles and cuddles*
Hi and bye, Soodle :) and Evaaaa!! What a lovely greeting ;) ((hugs))
how long do i get to keep you for, darling?
Oooh, a good 20 minutes before I have to go back out there and face them all again. *shudders*
No, I'm joking...some of the punters are very nearly human.
if i hold on tight enough, maybe i can keep you here. ;)
punters...? are those like bouncers?
Lol! Don't I wish...did you enjoy your long weekend, though??
lol! sorry, no, Brit slang. 'Punters' - paying customers :)
NB, where do you work/what do you do? Who/what makes you shudder & do you want us to sort 'em out for you?
Tell me everything, I've got lotsa time.
ahh. i enjoy learning british slang -- dear fiance is a bit of a europhile, so we like to throw it into daily convo whenever possible...heh course, most of what i know is from my parents, so its a good 40+ years out of date or else its from BBC America. ;)
and yes, enjoyed my long weekend -- turned out to be quite busy, but got a lot done and got to see lots of friends and have lots of fun. :)
alas, despite all my best shopping efforts, still no shoes! it seems orange shoes are only sold as sandals in the summer. hopefully i will have better luck when autumn is looming near...
Christine!! Made me laugh :) no, it's not that bad - I'm a bartender at the moment, -trying- to get into something else, but I don't wanna talk about that unless I get shot down ;)
Eva, I don't pass a shop without scanning it for the perfect pair of shoes for you ;)
oh dearie -- you KNOW i will pay you if you find something amazing! (btw, i wear about a size 8.5 US) ;)
I suffer for it though Eva :P I'm easily side-tracked by all the pretty shoes and clothes...
Otherwise, is everything improving for you?
hah. i was amazingly on-target during all of my shopping attempts this weekend. my eyes strayed a time or two, but i didnt allow myself to even try anything else on. i found 2 *potential* shoes possibilities, but they werent really what i had set out looking for. meanwhile, i also helped darling fiance shop for work pants. :)
EvaNadine - stores used to dye shoes for you, can they do that to match your outfit?
Ooh, Christine makes a good point!
Good morning, one and all.
christine: i can still get that done, but i am having an outdoor wedding, so i dont really want to risk the dye coming off on my dress... that is an option filed away in the back of my mind, though. :)
Otherwise, Christine, there's been a few problems - some new issues arising with my parents, but I won't really go into that :S life for me tends to take one step forward and then two steps back at the moment, but I'm sure everything will improve :) thanks for asking!
hello, Judi!
a permanent dye shouldn't bleed once it's dry. Morning all
what kind of orange?
oh dear, things taken a downward turn with the parents?
hoot -- i have never had a pair of dyed shoes that didnt bleed when wet. just my own experience... *shrug*
hurshy -- i want a satin (preferred) or suede finished shoe. prefer a burnt orange, but a regular orange will do. (im kinda picky about shoes...heh)
How bout doing it yourself?
burnt.
Yeah :/ they found out that my sister's still in contact with me, and are fuuurious. Took away the phone I gave her, so it's really difficult for me to talk to her. I miss her so much :(
and what style of shoe?
Eva - I'm sure you could spray them with some type of waterproofing once the dye is dry. Eva - have you tried shopping online for the shoes? www.dsw.com or zappos.com are good spots.
OH Nancy - that is just mean!
oh, NB! how terrible!! (((massive amounts of hugs)))
NB - that is outrageous! How old is your sister?
judi, yes, i have been looking ALL OVER. i am just very picky. hurshy: a heel. round toe or peep toe. no ankle strap. pref not a slingback, but i am open to that. not too busy, but something with visual interest.
From experience - parents can be your worst enemy. Hugs
orange should be interesting...
can I get a clue for the first di 7 ?
Sam's 16. I try to see her when I can; thing is, I'm desperate for her not to make them too angry with her, because I don't want her to end up in the same sorta situation I'm in. But thanks, all :) good to talk about it. The on-going saga..!
you could add a fancy brooch to them too
oh dear, getting the word couldnt be added message. be back later then.
ok, I've looked everywhere and cannot find my last two...clues for the second pr 5/12 and the pr 7/32 that follows it would be very much appreciated!
Haven't gotten that are Annie - sorry
well my usual typing skills are bacl
I'm outraged for your and your sister, NB. Hopefully, she can still communicate with you via e-mail or (how novel) snail mail.
di7, to spread or disperse...
pr + charged particle
or phone
Worse comes to worst - we can always adopt your sister, too! [[[hug hug hug]]]
yes, we will take your sister too!
let's see, have you seen these shoes, eva? http://piperlime.gap.com/browse/produc t.do?pid=754926012&tid=plpg1r&kwid=1&a p=7
ty for di and pr!
pr7 - not amateur and the ending of the cancer stick (French diminutive ending)
annie...the first di 7 starts with "he was very ****erent then add the word *** your head!
i have seen them before. i DO like those, hurshy... hrm! good contenders!
We're having to be a little creative, Judi. Anything computer-related is too risky, since it's a family PC; the home phone is, obviously, off limits, and I can't call her mobile 'cause it'll show up on the bill. I bought another mobile phone to give her, but they've found and confiscated that. We've fallen back on snail mail before, though ;) but I have to address it to one of her school friends and ask them to pass it on to her.
awww, you guys are so sweet! Sorry for the long post.
you'd have to find someone selling them in your size, though - looks like that place only has 10's left.
dang, hurshy! they dont have those on the american site!
thanks haz! That did it for the 7. Does anyone have a clue for the second pr 5/12?
some other computer with different email?
pr plus a charged particle for the second pr5/10.
pr + charged particle
wow, NB. i cant believe parents would work so hard to make their own child so unhappy. it makes me quite sad. please know that you are VERY loved here.
wow...thanks mixi6...that's fireworks...great clues!
Well done, ddb!
I believe it. Stoey of my life
Criminy, NB. Can you at least meet her in a coffee shop or something? Or do your parents have her on a freakin' leash?
couldn't have done it without you!
8 left to go
(((Eva))) thank you..I know it ;)
Similar situation, Hoot? :(
i'm ON the american site - i'm just a wannabe brit, remember :)
but, once you know the shoe, you google the name. sometimes another store will come up or someone will happen to be selling a pair in your size on ebay.
Has to be on the sly, Judi! She's visited me here and I've been down there a few times, but it has to be very well arranged...luckily she has lots of good friends to provide her with alibis!
Somewhat. According to them I have NEVER done anything right! You get really tired of being told you are wrong about everything. That's why I am here instead of NY. Just got fed up.
I hear ya, Hoot. Somehow, parents are the only people whose approval you never quite stop hoping for!
Such a shame. At least she doesn't buy into your Parent's hateful views about you. *sigh* You can't choose your genetics (not yet, anyway).
yup yup yup
LOL Judi! Well, if they didn't want a gay son...they shouldn't have had one! What's done is done, though, I just want them to leave her out of it.
If you could chosse your genetics, your still stuck with your parents.
sometimes I think that I was just elected to be the fall guy for the whole bloody family!
If this grid had a C, we could have 'coffee'.
Had mine thank you
mo7,44? help please?
Erk! Gone overtime here - better get back to work. Keep your fingers crossed for that someone tall, dark and handsome will come in...
mo7 - mo plus a kind of French garden party, but use a double consonant instead of the usual one
Seeya, NB. Chin up, love.
clue for the di 6/24 please
Or what sounds like the French version of the nursery rhyme tuffet sitting girl.
di6/24 - used to catch fish - lucky catcher?
ty haz.
what is a french garden party? I have about 6 french words in my vocabulary
If my chin was up any higher I'd fall over backwards, Judi ;) see you all later!
It's not so much a French garden party as a party, but it's a French word. Anagram of what's on the end of your legs.
ta haz i`m part of that word for not seeing it.
No problem, ron!
ok - got it. Turned out to be one of the 6
Excellent!
I like the nursery rhyme tuffet sitting girl. Got both the 7 and 8. Thanks.
You're welcome, mixi.
*whew* just had an impromptu meeting with my manager to let me know about my annual pay increase. yay!
So, you're getting one, then? Enough to fund shoes?
Well, that's always good news, Eva!
3 left including 2 blank tiles.
heh, yes. we had heard that annual raises this year would be kinda low, so i wasnt expecting much.
Did you receive more than you expected?
but i guess they also promoted me to a senior member of the staff. after the normal annual raise, i was still below the standard pay for that level, so i got bumped up extra. :)
from what we have been hearing, standard raises this year were gonna be about 3.something% i got 5.4% :)
Awesome you! Does that mean you are a "senior" citizen now?
heh, something like that. ;)
en8? help!
always nice to be appreciated
en8 - ends in gent's neckwear items.
yea eva. you go girl!
and dear fiance is also working on a promotion which *hopefully* should be coming through soon. another nice pay increase for him!
en8 - plural of something that exists, that can be ascertained.
TY Haz. Fireworks!
Well done!
Good morning all
Hiya, Bob.
Hello, Mr Bob.
I'm really starting to dislike this grid.
good morning everyone:)
Good morning, crossy.
Hiya, Crossy!
Hello, hello!
Hello, Jellen.
We're going home today!
oh yay jellen. great news!
howdy jellen
Good news1
YAY !!!!!
yaa fir jellen and tim!!
yaa fir jellen and tim!!
YAY, Jellen! How's hubby feeling after his latest odyssey?
He keeps saying, "I'm ready"
He's feeling okay...still has pain, but manageable...
I'm sure he's chomping at the bit. Hope the weather is nice where you are so he can get a little fresh air and sunshine.
Oh, good idea...will check the weather...
Too bloody hot here on the east coast. 102 in Delaware today. (please excuse my puddle of sweat).
Cloudy with chance of thunderstorms...oh well, not blazing hot...
*passes bucket of ice to Judi*
judi -- i heard that BWI broke the record yesterday, hitting 105
Good news re coming home Jellen!
How is the grid? Fun and fast, or short and mean?
*shoves head in ice bucket* mmmph. nice.
LOL
Initally fast, but a bit picky. The grid, I mean.
brb
Can't say Jellen, haven't started. Afternoon Haz :) or shold I call you FMinL form now on?
Afternoon FM - no, the usual Haz will do, we'll have people thinking it's a new aim to reach for in babble.
Yes - we're sweltering. Amtrak & Septa (trains) had to suspend service because rails were too hot. I guess they can warp when that happens - so they stop running trains for safety reasons.
that is hot, hot, hot Judi.
So, the rails get a break, but the rest of us poor so4 still have to go to work.
FM -- would you be someones "FM"inL? ;)
ha ha EvaN!
I think I'll change my icon to something more suitable in honor of the hellish heat. BRB.
good grief, why is it the 'rutting' pigeons choose my garden to fight in when there is a huge churchyard just the other side of the fence?!
They probably thought you'd be interested, you being their chief food provider and everything.
I dislike the pigeons intensly as they do such huge poops all over the place.
Can anyone clue the di6 please ;o)
Would quite happily bake a pigeon pie if I could :)
di6 - the sort of catcher used for fish in a pond?
ah but would you eat it?
afternoon all
<------ Hot enough to...use a cliche.
Hello, Kallia.
Hi, Kallia
Quite happily Kallia :)
Thanks Haz didn't see that one
No problem, Norma.
lol great icon Judi.
don't think I would FM
hi babblers, here's the weather report from NJ - it was 105 degrees here yesterday! just recovered from a two-hour power outage, wish us the best for the rest of today
Hello, JBV. Power outage = no airconditioning? Not pleasant.
Hi, JBV
Good luck JBV!
no a/c and no babble1
!
cooler here today it is "only" 27c with a chance of T-storms
Which would be worse?
power outage = no babble! terrible!!
((crossy))
((FM))
Oh, that sucks, JBV! A power outage is my biggest fear. Me need air conditioning!
i will be getting one of those smart phones soon and will be able to babble even if the power goes;))..oh yea i think it does phone calls as well lol
lol
Babble: Don't leave home without it.
jumping into the current theme: the AC on my car quit yesterday and I have to replace the compressor :-(
Hello, Une
that sounds expensive :(
hey, jellen
Une, that sounds technical - and expensive.
i am so out of the loop on modern technology - but I must admit i'm fascinated by those video phones they are showing on TV ads now
Poor Une! That sounds hot and expensive.
$1000
OUCH!
owieee!
i hate cars
Ouch!
That would buy EvAn a pair of shoes or two.
:-D
i do not have a/c in my car as with a NORMAL summer it would only get used 3 or 4 times and is a $1700.00 option at time of purchace
Dayum. You could buy a whole car for that.
crossy, it's essential here
for eva? 1 pair
I have a/c in mine - it is called windows and a sunroof.
96 here today, 97 tomorrow
Well, they are for her wedding, Crossy. The cost would be justified.
insane
But if she's wearing a long dress, do the shoes matter?
the heat,not the wedding shoes
yes they do Haz.
yea,she could be wearing flip-flops and no one would see
What do you drive, Crossy?
Yes, I have a 4/65 a/c in my car... 4 windows, 65 mph.
crossy, I had to drive 50 miles yesterday with no AC -- the dogs and I were all panting!
i may need 2 pairs after all -- heels for pictures, and flats for dancing. ;)
hey, eva!
:) @ amelu
and our snowbirds drive south to die in 100+ heat..can never figure that out
Quite sensible, Eva.
My daughter wore flip-flops as her wedding shoes.
that's a mystery to me as well, crossy!
I'm on your side Une - I'm at 79 and that is the coolest it has been in 3 weeks!
Oh no, wht. Fashion mavens are cringing everywhere.
No one could see them and she is taller than her husband anyway and didn't want any heel at all.
They were nice flip-flops with sparkly things on them.
But... the sound of flip flopping down the aisle... Stacey and Clinton would have to do a wedding intervention.
Know someone who wore sneakers. Most sensible!
i've seen a number of brides wearing sneakers!
i need all the help i can get looking longer and leaner in my photos. once i am on the dance floor, i wont care...
I never noticed the sound. Don't think anyone else did either.
I would rather see sneakers (like in Father of the Bride). At least you can bling them to the nth degree and they don't make noise.
And it did make me very careful to avoid her feet when I danced with her. :^)
So, EvaN, have you considered incorporating stilts into your outfit?
They'd give a very long look and if you pad them, no sound at all.
Start practising now and no-one will know.
i may just have a crane hoist me from above so i can hover over the ceremony, like the angel that i am...
hello everyone. i'm sure evaN's shoes will be spectacular
hey, dorens
Hello, Dorens.
LOL!
howdy dorens
Hi, Dorens
I am sure evaN's shoes will be spectacular, even if they are flip-flops.
Haz was just thinking back to some of those travellers weddings, the brides wore trainers under the tonnage of dress, guess a dainty show would have collapsed?
I'll be back to finish this tricky grid after lunch. TTFN. *peuff*
*shoe even
103 degrees here and air condiioning not working.. of course the folks are too busy to come look at it today
I think you're right, FM, a stiletto would have collapsed under the strain.
Bye, Judi.
Bye Judi and HI Dorens.
Bye Judi
hey, wht. I was in arlington taking a yoga class my sister teaches at the senior center-- and hi une, haz, fm etc
WEll that would solve EvaNs problem - big frothy dress, no one will know what shoes she is wearing *giggle*
EvaN, you could always do a Sandy Shore (the singer not the beach) and go barefoot.
somehow i think EvaN is not the barefoot type
true :)
You're showing your age, and so am I, FM, for I remember her barefoot days as well.
Coronation Street and I are the same age - I am feeling a tad jaded.
They've put new titles in recently.
Hi Dorens. So you came up here to beat the heat?
i will probably dance barefoot, actually. but outdoor ceremony in october does not lead itself to bare-footedness.
Caught a bit on 'This Morning' that all hell is going to be let lose at the end of the year - Big plot line.
besides, i need an excuse for new shoes!
LOL Like you need an excuse for new shoes, silly girl :)
I thought having feet was all the excuse you needed. :^)
hah! hot everywhere, but i was there for my grandkids' birthday party... came home last nite, and wouldn't have if i knew my AC didn't work
lol wht
Bet you had a grand time Dorens.
absolutely... despite the fact that the party was outside in 98 degree heat... grand kids are tremendously fun
phew!
Glad the grandkids had fun. Hope you found some shade.
yah, that was monday. yesterday got to 103 and today is scheduled for the same
Nice chatting but I need to get back to work now.
enjoy your day wht
Bye wht.
See you later, wht.
Bye, wht
I guess I should get back to the grid too. TTFN, back later.
hi jellen, how's it going?
The grid or the grind or the grind of the grid?
Great, we're going home today!
*grind not grid, now there is a freudian slip!
is this grid a grind?
oh that is terrific news jellen. so happy to hear that
It's initially fast, takes a wee bit of work.
i've begun quickly, but they almost all do.. nearly halfway already
someone mentioned a large mo.. I don't see it..any ideas?
ends like the pr7
and crossy,s monkey gets ejected from the rocket powered monkey car as he slams into the first wall....
kinda like Little Miss Mo**** sat on a tu**** eating her curds and whey
hello hello again! hello haz and la glitteratinella! hello Une and crossy! and ruru! and doren!
Hello Ata!
hey, ata! :-)
howdy ata
love the new pic, ata!
hello ata!
didja get the mo8, ruru?
a very trimmed hobbit! ooo I have an even better pic now ...
no
hello ata and ruru
I have bad mo mojo today
hi dorens
mo** (like winter hand warmer) and pr7/32 minus the non-athlete word
there :) new pic!
bad mo mojo sounds like a great name for a musical group
that's the one i was seeing before, ata
Hi, ruru!
and Ata!
pr7/32, clue, please?
hi jellen.. glad you are going home
pr7 is almost a ballet turn on toe shoes
pr7 - not against and diminutive French ending.
drat, well there *is* a new one!
ty une
hm.. that is a new word for me
yw :-)
Thanks, Une and Haz
me too
yw jellen :-)
thanks for the pr7 and mo.. quite helpful you folks are
:-D
*smug*
Babblers are very service-oriented LOL
Feel free to randomly through out clues...having a bit of difficulty concentrating :-)
Good day, Babble chums
hey, BR!!
hi babrab
jellen, do you have the 8's?
Hello, BabbleRabble!
any clue for the di6/24 ? last one I need
Just the mo8...
di6/24: chips and di* + Babble is a game on the Inter***
there's an en8 (hint - it's a plural)
en8/40: en + boob slang + ends in men's neckwear
thanks une
yw :-)
Thanks, Dorens and Une!
di7/32 is another of today's words that ends in the French diminutive
yw!
Once again there is not surprise... all the 8 letter words have 8 letters
une was kinder to you (i was making you work for it)
isnt boob a slang for that? LOL
Got them, thanks!
well, yeah LOL
i think there are quite a few slang words for that, actually
of8/75: not on + how you make a book
pi7/32: holinesses
nice, thanks une.. down to 30 and really should do something about breakfast..have been lazy this morning
Thanks again and again, Une!
yw :-)
ir7: ways of stating something contrary to fact (sardonic)
Hello, BabbleRabble.
this is helping take my mind off having to pay for a new compressor for my stoopid car
Thanks...
ty again une
yw :-)
This is taking my mind off the fact that we would be already gone if the doctor hadn't made an error in filling out the prescription forms...
Hello, Haz
oh, crap, Jellen!
ah, the joys of hospital checkout. I hope yall aren't delayed much longer, jellen
hey, seain! Melting into a puddle yet? :-)
Ah well, Tim is resting, and I am Babbling, so not all bad...
I hate Mo words says the melted brain puddle here
hospital check-out is always a nightmare
today i figured out that the weather app on my phone means 100 when it says 00; so i take today's 01 to mean they're predicting 101
i did turn the AC up a degree so it's not running continuously like yesterday
someone mentioned earlier that trains had been stopped in Delaware 'cause the rails were getting too hot! yikes!
yup,do not want the hydro meter spinning right off the wall
ni7: swell, wonderful, lovely . . . plural
Thanks, Une...
*sigh* apparently Hobbit is physically glued to my leg today
ty une
Hobbit adores his mum :-)
Yeah, trains are delayed from somewhere S of here up into NYC
She just wants to bond.
wow . . .
it didn't dip below 80 last night here
does she ever ... I was away all yesterday and husband was at home (ill, you know), and apparently she spent all day with her nose glued to the front door waiting
it's now 11:40 and 90 degrees
11:30 rather
I have a cat who, upon occasion, gloms onto me...
Poor soul. The hang nail again?
The next day he may be completely aloof...
i have a cat hat howls til i get up, then is quiet. sigh.
no ... a headache, aka couldn't be bothered to get up in the morning
my 3 pups are like the 3 Musketeers -- one for all and all for one . . . and all very close by ALL the time! LOL
How annoying, dc!
dc,one of our cats used to do that, then we started leaving a night light on in the livingroom and she was ok after that
Maybe it's referred pain from the hang nail.
night lights in LR, DR, kitchen, both bathrooms, and two of the three bedrooms.
oh probably! he managed to have 2 days off work because of it
and today she waited til 10:30 to start
i should to sleep earlier and get up earlier -- that would please her
Ear plugs, dc. A lifesaver.
10:30?? well the day is shot by then..probably wants her brekkies"
i've generally fond earplugs ineffectual - they dampen noise, but not enough
i've generally fond earplugs ineffectual - they dampen noise, but not enough
Earplugs just isolate my tinnitus...
Tinnitus must be horrible to live with.
couldn't live without my white noise machine -- cranked up to what my mom used to call "jet engine" setting LOL
husband now has tinnitus too ...
mo7 and 8?
Most of the time it doesn't bother me...just when it's extremely quiet or there's a sound that is close but clashing (like machines humming)
My sister's boss once claimed that doctor's told her that 'She was a Baffle'. I think your husband comes into the same category, Ata.
mo8 clued at 10:07
speaking of noise and ears,i have had a real annoying thing going on of late what i hear all the time is exactly like the sound of a police siren in the distance.makes it a real pain while i am driving as i keep wanting to pull over to let this imaginary officer pass;(
10:07 is way off the chog by now!
ok, thought you could just check the chat log
Hi, hurshy!
mo7 - mo plus the French garden party type word but use a double helping of one of the consonants.
that's one way of descriing him ....
The mo9 uses double helpings of two consonants.
the full chat log takes forever to load if you try to open it... thanks haz
the full chat log takes forever to load if you try to open it... thanks haz

although all you guys look oddly the same - hmmmm
LOL GE
does anyone have a clue for en8 or at least the 3rd letter. Just can't get it.
political en8
foreign en8
alien en8
en8- when you feel you deserve something, you are en8 to it
kaplan, it's a noun, not an adj
Oh no, didn't have my glasses on and misread my own word. SORRY!!
Ah - got it from the alien clue. Thanks a lot.
the en8 were spooky
Not good to do babble if you can't see the letters.
quite so, kaplan :)
Some things are just basic.
I have 34 left, and time to list.
hello all!
27 left. Maybe I will, maybe I won't.
Only my hairdresser knows for sure.
And if you know THAT reference, you are as old as I am.
How bout this one- "Mother please! I'd rather do it myself!!"
Ah, a childhood spent watching game shows on TV. Such memories.
bryll cream a little dab will do ya,bryll cream, youll be so debonair, bryll cream the girls will all persue ya,they love to run their fingers through your hair...lol
Remember the Burma Shave ads?
hello cross!! how was the bacon yesterday?
how about the one hour martenizing dry cleaner ads?
it was amazing stiddles, made a huge brunch, then for dinner we went out for endless racks of honey garlic beef ribs;)
What? Aren't the one- hour Martinizing ads still around?
sounds, um... filling, cross!
pome
\I got a book you'd love the other day, crossy. "Best British Bacon Recipes". Was given it free on a book stall!!
we were like a pair of hyenas at the kill with those ribs lol
SORRY

lol had to read that twice, though she said to you have a tan going yet and was about to give ata heck lol
oh! *grin* no, tanning isn't good for people! *stern mama look*
lol
anyone who lays in the suns and bastes for the perfect tan, just let me know and ill send you picks of my mellanoma scars....
I managed to burn a bit of my neck yesterday grrrr, I obviously didn't get suntan lotion on that bit
it's a scary disease... I am glad you are around with scars to show, but wish you hadn't had them.
lol, seems i have been spared to nag at others about the risks
(((cross))) and now you are taking care of yourself much better!
that and smoking risks and to check your dingle berries monthly lol
E on the right, and the O on the bottom please? I am trying for NBT?
(stiddles)
I don't smoke, and no dingle berries... *grin* so that's 2/3 okay. The sun... we get so little here that most of the year no sunscreen necessary. This week however, I am going to have to buy a new bottle.
did you know, by all the talk, sunscreen has an expiration date, learned that while working at pharmacy
i buy a fresh one each summer weiik
good cross
lol,i have learned the hard way
yes, that's partly why I need more -- also just learned oxybenzone is a risk factor... so need to replace for other types anyway. *sigh* health is so complicated
hey stid, what is this with oxybenzone?
best stuff is the high end baby sunscreen
hold on weiik, there is a website that explains it. brb
..plus you smell so nice all the ladies want to cuddle
lol
es6/18 brand of gas es** + not out
http://www.ewg.org/2010sunscreen/ scrabbler sent this link to me.

LOL at me
phantom "infinities"
alos definities
and definite..not good when there are more phantoms thatn words
and infinate..;(
im back hopefully to finish
omg!! i killed the chog!!!! ahhhhhhhhh!!!!
ahh there is annie;)
hi crossy! Yesterday was your "eat bacon" day
it was indeed aniie;)))

and a nice salty bag of chips and dip for later
howdy ruby
crossy, my mouth is watering
hi rubyfoo
the ribs were amazing!! almost better than the bacon
Did you make the ribs? Recipe?
it's after dinner but now crossy has made me hungry again.
Hello Annie!
sorry annie we went out to montannas for these ribs
I have 82 words but don't think I'll find any more
crossy, always fun to have a good rib place to go to
i just sat back, relaxed and let them bring me racks of ribs till i started hallucinating lol
if you have them down there i highly reccomend the ribs
my best word, found without help** is ir7/28. Many of the others were clued in the chog

anyone have a clue for mo 7 ?
short ribs, I l ove short ribs
I don't know if I've had beef ribs....
oh, short ribs, maybe
annie know..they are divine
I don't have the mo7 only 3 mo 4's
mo 6 is wishy washy (comparative)
ty annie
mo7 and mo 8 sound like the little miss who was frightened of the spider.
does it rhyme with do6?
yes
mo8 - the Death Star's Grand Mo-- Tarkin made into a little French female (The mind fairly boggles!)
mo7 is the same but with one of the sets of double consonants singled
Hi Vicuna...
Hello, everyone. Hello, Annieb.
thank you vic, I couldn't figure that out (and certainly not the 8!)
howdy vic
Apparently it means "a noxious emanation," which means it's a fabulous one to use in a sentence some time...
I'm practicing right now, vic
As in, what is that dreadful mo7? Oh, it's only you, dear. ;)
got the 7 and 8 and putting it in my mind for future use
raofl
moi?
Of course not you, Annieb! We have no noxious emanations here in Babbleland!
except for trolls , shhhh
di 6/24?
True true.
if somebody uses abusive language, does that make him a troll?
di6/24 for fishing
it is so da** hot here, I am going to pick Bobby up and not have him walk 3 avenue blocks to the bus, bye dear babblers
di + cons + hair***
Goodbye, Annieb!
oh--now I see---thanks Ruby
bye annie!
yw
Well, it raises a flag, rubyfoo. Although how many of us can claim we've never used abusive language?
it's a dopey word, but I've seen it in babble before
but not in the chog!
what we say to our spouses in anger (or through a closed car window __ "Can you read lips?" is different
Oh, yes. That's true, ruby. True trollism consists in coming onto the chog for the express purpose of being abusive int he hope of getting a reaction.
hi all....having a tough time with this one
hi science
Hello, sciencegeek.
but I guess people get worked up when discussing sports but there's language and language.....
I have 87 words, science, ask me anything!
I have a few good words
lone e on the right?
es6/18 - gas company + opp of out
howdy science
es + ** you say! + opp of out
ty
hi crossy
your clue was better, vic
Eh, different clues work for different people. It's always nicest to have the variety.
so 6/36=part of roof construction to keep rain out
s-l-o-w-i-n-g d-o-w-w-n-n-n...
I had the word, knew it was architectural, but didn't know the meaning. ty crossy
how many do you have, vic
101
much better than me!
im fighting with one that im sure is in here but i cannot get it..it is a ballet move where they spin like a top..but it eludes me;9
Once they stop coming easily it's time to decide how much time I want to devote to the rest. Get it over with = list, fool around for the rest of the afternoon = no list.
pirouette
crossy that word has a U in it.
that would explain it then
Great phantom, though.
this thing is full of great phantoms
vi vi vi viiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!
Definitely.
I guess I "fooled around" enough so good night everybody
ATAAAAAAAAAA! =D How are you?
as crossy said, more phantoms than words!
gn ruby, make sure you dance in your dreams;)
Good night, ruby! Sleep well.
good!!!!
how are you and the ToG?
Sweltering, but otherwise well.
*poof*
good! for the well not the sweltering ...
my phantom today is moieties
Oh, is that how that's spellt? I was monkeying around that one earlier.
I *think* so!
Haz would know
Of course. Haz knows all.
(Except Star Wars.)
exactly
I think she knows who Yoda is now
Well, that's progress!
absolutely!
ToG are starting to get into certain Star Wars stuff, and I'm lame enough to be sad that there are some plot twists and surprises that they can never experience, because the info is already just too much out there.
true ... :( but it's still epic
Do they / have they liked the "How to Train your DRagon" books?
We saw the movie and loved it. Haven't read the books yet. They look so different I'm afraid the books and the movie will suffer in comparison with each other.
I haven't seen the movie, but I've been reading the books and they are *hilarious*
well, actually, I've been listening to the audiobooks, so not really reading them
the audiobooks are read by David Tennant - just perfect
Well, they're on the list to try at some point, so we'll all get there eventually I'm sure. Good to know they'll be good!
they are very different, I was looking up bits about the film and didn't recognise a thing!
I'm absolutely in love with them. Not sure I should be madly in love with books for ages 3 upwards, but ...
Yeah, it's one of those "If you didn't want to do the story that was int he book, then why don't you just make up your own movie from scratch instead of calling it the same thing?" It drives me utterly mad when Hollywood does that...
I *think* they should be different enough to not upset each other
Although in this case, having not previously read the books, I was able to enjoy the movie for its own sake, and it really is excellent.
Toothless is a really wimpy dragon, no randomly added girly character ...
Ata, just about all my favorite books are juvenile (or at least can be found int he children's room of the library.)
mine too LOL
In regards to which, I've finally gone over to the dark side and started a blog... on block printing and juvenile fantasy, two of my favorite things. =)
omg! link! LINK!!
ata,if you love audio books make sure you look up a company by the name of 'the minds eye" they do amazing work!!
Well, I've only got a few posts up so far, but... http://nydamprintsblackandwhite .blogspot.com/
I've discovered listening to audio books on long car journeys
they do an amazing lord of the rings, mine are on 12 cassette tapes;/
*gleeeeee* ty!
and many of ann rules good true crime books are also on audio
Audiobooks are great for driving, but otherwise I definitely prefer to do my own reading.
I have a set of 15 CDs with the SIlmarillion on. I must put them on my ipod ...
me too Vi. But in the car, they really are great
crossy is loving his e-book reader;)
15 CDs - lol
15 LONG cds
its a big book;)
sorry crossy, you've just got 2 book worshippers here :P
not half as long as LotR!
my 12 tapes are an hour per side
back in nthe day when disks were but a dream lol
I'll bet. I like reading aloud, but I'm just imaging that job. Whew. (Not nearly as long as LotR, but not as interesting sustained plot, either, I'm afraid.)
it has full music score to go with it,which adds a nice touch
I must email this to you Vi, I recently did a pic for a cover of a new Tolkien biography - but the brief was ti create something similar to the old 1930s gilt-on-textile book covers. It was rather similar to block print thinking, I think
Oh, yes, I'd like to see that. And sounds like a cool job, too.
the 30,s editions of lotr are a tad pricey now lol
My next post on Friday is going to be Belomlinsky's Soviet Hobbit illustrations. Funky stuff.
the hobbit that is
If anyone tries to sell you an edition of the Hobbit from the early 30's, don't bite! ;)
i am still after a nice arkham house edition of dark carival by bradbury
i shant vic
ohhh yes, they are quite incredible. the soviet illustrations
there, emailed :)
anyways im off to work ill leave you ladies to your hobbits:)
.......poink
bye crossy!!
Goodbye, crosshair.
Okay, awaiting the "dink" of new mail. =)
I *think* I got the right email addy!
Yay, there it is... Yes, that captures the look perfectly!
doesn't it! I was really pleased!
hello!
When will this book be coming out?
Hello, m9f9l.
it's going to be a four colour gilt printed cover. It'll look sooo beautiful. Well. That is an interesting question
It was going to be August, but the Tolkien Estate are now trying to ban bits of it, so we'll see ...
Will it actually be on fabric? Oh, what's so controversial?
I'm not sure ... and nothing! They just hold literary rights to JRRT stuff, and this contains new letters and photos etc. They are trying to stop the author using them even though she has full copyright permissions
Hmmm... well I don't blame estates from wanting to maintain control... Not that I'll ever be famous, but if I were I would appreciate not being totally fair game for anyone to pick over... But at the same time, if there's nothing objectionable, it seems unreasonable to be obstructionist just for the sake of it...
absolutely, and that's what they are famous for doing
changed my icon
all the letters and photos used in the new book are the personal property of a Tolkien relative, who has given full permission for their use. It's intensely annoying
Hi m9
Too bad. Well, hopefully it'll get sorted out and your gorgeous cover art won't have to languish too long.
hopefully! we're all crossing fingers
hiya all :-)
Aha, the crystal theme. Nice one, m9f9l.
Hello...we're home!!!
Hello, Bugsaw. Hello, Katie.
Jellen! Katie!!
Hello, Jellen, and yay!
thanks Vic
YAY for Jellen and Tim!!
Hi to everyone here. Just spending a few more minutes before gardening in the heat for a bit more...
i need help on di624 please
gardening in the heat? madness!
I've given up on gardening for the week, except for watering at dawn and dusk.
di6/24 - tool for scooping goldfish out of a bowl?
I agree Atalante but my summer is jammed packed full of things to get done so I am edging beds and weeding.
when I get too hot, I come in a Babble fora bit.
Well, at least she's got *some* sense! ;)
thanks vicuna, but i still dont get it :-(
yup have to justify Babbling somehow
di6 - compound word, di- your toes in the water to cool them + fish--- stockings
ok now I have it...thanks
Take a di* in the pool + catch a fish in a ***
KMS thinkof it as a compound word, both 3 letters long. then look at the clue again
thanks all
You're welcome.
ahhhh food. lovely!
Food? That reminds me it's time to feed the minions. Back in a bit.
bye dear!
Back in from the heat.
Hi, Annie
hi Jellen, glad you and Tim are home
So are we, Annie!
anybody know di76o?
Okay, minions are hopefully staved off until dinner.
di7/60 - not sharply focussed
ty vic
ty vi!
or di7- Vive la ----erance + SOme of them want to --- you...
ah thank you
These words aren't finding themselves.
*sings* sweet dreams are made of this
(Expects Haz to come bursting in to ab--- me and shout about ear plugs.)
lol yep!
fireworks
yay annie!
Yay for Annieb!
congrats, annie
hello
Yay, Annie!!!
Hello, dcseain.
hello dcseain
Hi again, dc
i took a nap and made some lunch
good afternoon everyone!!
Hello, Mom
(((Mom))) hello
hello, mom
{{Jellen}}, {{Annie}}, {{Seain}} hello to all of you
Hello, Mom.
{{Vicuna}} hello
Hello, people :)
Hi everyone
{{Jilli}} hello
gosh! everyone appearing!
Hi jilli !
{{Sea}} hello
and hi to seaspray
{{Ata}} hello
came in out of the heat Ata
oh, vicuna = vicuña!
very sensible! hi mom! hi sea! hi jilli!
howdy, ata
lol, dc. You just noticed?
yes, only just now :)
lol dc
i never new the name in English, and in Spanish those are different words, so i did not make the association
Well, I look like a proper vicuña today.
yes, you do!
Oh, do I want to know what non-tilde vicuna means in SPanish?
it doesn't mean anything
this could be interesting ....
I won't be here long -- lunch to get -- but I wanted you to know that re ICON THEMES, I've posted a few of the coming ones in my profile, plus a link to sprite's site. Just scroll down past my writeup of today's theme if you're interested. I plan to keep it up to date. You may notice that there are lots of blanks, so if you have some ideas, sprite will be glad to hear from you.
Oh, when you said "two different words" I thought you meant two actually words. lol
thanks Jilli
cool, jilli, ty
Thanks, jillibus.
Oh! Didn't see you jilli! Hi!
hello all! ((jellen))
*sighs happily* there is nothing better than a good jacket potato with cheese!
hey jill!
jacket potato? like a baked potato???
Hi Stid
pasta in garlic-butter sauce with parmesan
yep!
Pardon the repetition, but we're home!!!
hello stid
wonderful, jellen! Great news :D
hooray Jellen, so glad to hear that
well, true, that's pretty darn good too!
It occured to me that sprite is in such a different time zone from North America that many people don't know the theme or how to find it, now that Resources still shows Babbler as the link -- way out of date!
I'm afraid it's too hot for baked potatoes to sound good, Ata, although normally I'd agree with you.
congrats jellen...I's sure it feels wonderful!
I miss Babbler...
this is the first day for ages that it's felt cool enough to attempt one. but today, it was perfect!
YAY for being home!!! *showers Jellen and Tim with happiness*
I do too, stiddy
Hi stid!
they lowered my local forecast from 101 to 99. So far, only 98.
Hello, stidmama.
And today is nice and warm here at last!
lol Seain. 92 here
question please.... is the mo 7 a common word?
I reckon if you're going to be 99, may as well just get into that third digit and get bragging rights for your trouble.
Nope, Mom.
hello seain... hope the forecast won't happen. 98 is plenty warm enough *fans self with library book* (I'm at the library, it might hit close to 90 here today... too hot!)
only 99 here dc
Not to me, mom!
hi all
i'm sure it'll hit 100 in the city - i'm about 20 miles west of it.
Vicuna!!! how are you? how's the kids? *hands tall cool drink*
Hi Science
Hello All - 93 here - just got home
hi SG!
well Jilli, I will work on it then.
Hi, sgeek
and hi river!
stid, i went to a tamale-making demo at the Folk Life Festival on Monday -- two women from Campeche showed how they make them.
hi, river
All great here, stidmama, thanks for asking. And how is the entire stidfamily?
Hi, River
can someone clue me on the di 7 - first one
Hello, Riverdance.
{{{River}}} read back in the chat .... I am so sorry things have turned out the way they have. Please know you all are in my thoughts and prayers.
Mom, I love your icon!
what *is* a tamale?
we are doing pretty well today vicuna -- one at home, one at rehearsal.
is that the di7 set for eating?
thank you Jilli
di7/60 - not sharply focussed
ata, it's fillings wrapped in cornmeal, wrapped in cornhusk or banana skin, then steamed.
yummmy tamales
(a bit oversimplified that explanation)
its your kind of word science - dismantle a bomb
And are you still insanely busy, or do you get a bit of a break at all?
banana leaf, not skin :">
a tamale is a latin american steamed dish, a corn-flour shell wrapped around a (usually) protein/meat center. Very yummy
(is cornmeal like polenta?)
ty
similar to polenta
and tied with corn husks or banana leaves depending on the origin
polenta is a thing that can be made from cornmeal.
actually it is masa that is used
ahhhh ok. ty all! I'd always wondered!
in this case, similar to polenta, but different flavor.
right, masa harina de maiz is used in this case
river -- the bomb would be a slightly different spelling
thanks Mom - we are back on waiting mode - more restrictions than ever
ole dc
still insanely busy.... RIVER!!! ((((((many hugs)))))) how are you?????? how is your son?????
yeah I know - but first thing that came to my mind - not quite working right
ack. waiting? waiting????
I wish I were near you to help out with meals and house work and all
i use Maseca brand, even for my cornbread.
yes, river -- what's the latest?
he is pretty weak - after 10 hours under anesthesia you can imagine
maseca is a common name for masa harina de maiz
I use maseca also, highly available here.
may his recovery go well, river
Oh gosh, oof, River.
*sending healing and patience to River and kin*
wish i knew how to make them....
I assume surgery was successful?
Atalante, when you come, we can make tamales (now that I sort of know how)
River - sorry to hear of your problems..sending prayers
((River and son))
they found a rather large aneurism in the coronary sinus behind his heart - cant do anything about it right now - needs further study - venogram, angiogram, ct scan, mri to make sure the procedure will be safe. Trying to get him scheduled in Boston asap
I followed the recipe on the maseca bag, science! just needed more spice.
ooo wonderful! we have an almost possible probable date of trying to get over there for the end of septmeber ...
they couldnt keep him under anesthesia any longer so had to stop
oh my, river.
omg river!
Oh my, river!
Oh River, so sorry to hear, thoughts and prayers coming your way...
well, POOP, River! *unhappy mama look* that stinks. *more healing and patience on the way*
oh gosh!!
River, your family is lovely
ata, over there meaning Oregon?
yep!
we took that coming out of the movies on Monday with our 3D glasses on
Hang in there, River.
IF I can a place at OSU or U Wash
end of september will be in the middle of student teaching... but I will MAKE time for you! *determined mama look*
oh, wow, good luck w/it ata!
(UW is closer...)
you will enjoy that area Ata
everything's in place ... I'm just trying to work out visa issues. Visas visas visas .... nightmare
Sending hopeful good thoughts your way, River
unfortunately it is in a dangerous area that they need to fix - may not be able to and will end up with a defibrulator - not the end of the world if thats what is needed
having worked for customs, yes visas are...tedious at best.
but thank goodness they discovered it!
so they upped his meds to keep his heart rate down until we can get this done
my tom has an ICD, so does a friend of mine who is now 27 - he got his when he was 16.
I can get a holiday visa and try and get a work visa while over there. Risky. Or get a research visa, but that depends on UW / OSU
and he will have to go to Boston to do this?
the university should apply for you to get an I-9
Keith's Doc feel he can still be somewhat active with an ICD - no contact sports but can still play some. Literature says none but Doc does not agree.
or a J (?) visa i forget the code
the problem with doing the first Ata is that if you are not successful you will then have a mark against you and may be refused future holidays there
that's what I'm hoping, science. But trying to get either of them to do this with ANY amount of hurry is impossible!
in River's part of the country, Boston is best choice, IMHO.
think it's I9, science
yes, what katie said
yes it is also summer....think I 9 also....used to workk with Canadiens who had them
if you have offer from uni, it'll go faster.
Boston Childrens Hospital is the leading pediatric cardiac hospital
exactly, katie. You'd think I was trying to come over and bomb the place, not just want to come and live with the people and the places I would choose to be with!
that is excellent River.
Keith actually had his open heart there when he was 7 weeks old. the electrical problem he has now can be done here at Dartmouth but they have nothing available in the near future. They already cancelled procedures to get him in yesterday
River, I am so sorry for you....breaks my heart
well, and we wouldn't want to have an actual intellectual come over to further our knowledge base... (have to keep the rabble out, you know)
'Who Wants to Be a Millionaire' creator awarded $269.2 million in damages
LOOOL stiddy :P
Must go and get lunch, then return for my last 24. All the best to you and Keith, river.
I hope Boston can get him in soon
enjoy, jilli
bye bye KJilli
Jilli*
(((atalante))) you know it just infuriates me, the trouble the scientists I know have had to get visas that allow them to work and stay over here. *stomps foot*
Goodbye, jillibus.
later jill!
we're all pulling for Keith and you, river, it's hard, but ther is hope.
yesterday I thought I would die of a broken heart - today Mom is taking charge again to get this fixed.
bye jilli and thanks
I will be thinking of you, River!
{{{{River}}}}
you will do it, River. he is lucky to be your child!
it just really annoys me seeing how easy it is for people to get in here, and all I want to do is be in Astoria, contribute to AStoria, and it's a complete nightmare to do so
(((River)))
Hi everybody. Just peeked in the chog, (((River))) Is there anything I can help explain?
hi nef
{{{Nef}}} hello
Hello, Nef.

This is kinda cool...I am monitoring chat in the Melanoma Research Foundation chat room, and the executive director popped in to chat...
Duly noted, dc :-)
here we go... 5 left until fireworks! let me know if you need hints
lol dc
He gave me his cell number and email address and encouraged me to contact him with questions...

Neat Jellen! (that didn't work in the WORD box, BTW)
brb. It's raining like crazy here!
I have a NON BABBLE question for anybody that can help

Hello Babblers. Hope all are doing super great!
hey red
I do not have the pr 7 though.

Hi, red! I'm home!!!
glad to hear you are home.
Vioxx, I like your icon.

wondering about her son
So I got my cholesterol checks done this morning and I hate to admit it, but I am thinking that I could eat pizza of a juicy hamburger tonight....not really wonderful...
Seain the German octopus predicted Spain!
she was on earlier -- son is reovering, will need more surgery, and likely and ICD
way cool, bugs!
I havent good, btu I just got here and was on for like 10 minutes this morning.
Sounds like things went well, even with the ICD need.
ICD?
well that's good i guess
Implantable cardiac device - pacemaker/defibrilator
defib in his cale
case
Thanks for translation
my Tom has one, so i've gotten used to the jargon
He is not very old to need a pacemaker is he?
:)
her son? no, but i know a guy who got one when he was 16
He is very young...12
and Tom was far from youngest in cardiac unit when we were in Cleveland
i am finally finished...what a pain
he had his first heart operation at ... what'd she say... 4 mos?
Wow. such a worry when boys want so much to do stupid but fun things.
congrats, science
For him, its not the pacemaker but the defib part that he needs. His heart works, but occasionally overworks.
dc - how is tom doing?
well done science!
Congratsulations Science Geek!!!!!
Stupendous, sgeek!!!
sorry i was such a bother in the chog today
okay, science. his gradient wont from 0 6 weeks post-op to 20 now, though.
jellen, how is TIm doing?
not at all, science!
what does that mean dc?
what is a gradient?
He is okay...still on painkillers and blood pressure meds
Sure heis glad to be at home.
it means he's relapsing into hypertrophic obstructive cardio myopathy, which the surgery was intended to fix.
On track to start clinical trial next week...
oh, good, very soon :)
sorry to hear, seain
i hope the trial is successful for him
DC, what are they telling him?
that is not a fun thing to be dealing with dc
so far nothing, as cardiologist's assistant called with results of last echocardiogram, and he's not made an appt with the cardio doc yet.
((dc and Tom))
Is he feeling alright?
he's been a bit down, as her msg was "good news! the gradient is down to 20", as she did not know that it had been down to 0, as last cardio here was at 40
I feel for both of you dc and Jellen because it is so hard to witness someone you love uncomfortable and/or in distress
he is doing alright - some days better than others, and he's still working, as he was pre-op
Now, I would feel down as well with a message like that DC! Oh man. I'd like to give the Assistant a talking to.
upside, his wound is healing well, and he's getting feeling back in the numb area to the right of the still-healing incision.
agreed, red
i've been tempted to walk over there. OTOH, it seems Cleveland did not send last set of results to doc here.
nurses not my faves right now no offense meant. not all the same
How are you, TO?
personally, I wonder about floor nurses, they are soooo nasty at times.
hi, TO, and that's understandable :) you doing alright?
nurses not my faves right now no offense meant. not all the same
TOm and I of course are good and nice nurses, though I admit for about 30 minutes yesterday I completely forgot I had a patient in a room....
I must leave and cook for the dh. I will keep all of you folks close to my heart - no pun intended. Feel so bad that everyone is having all these health issues.
G'bye, sgeek
clue for di7 pls?
Hugs to all of you
tom is always saying that nurses are the worst people
be well, science
di 7 is a small table and chair set
I'm going to miss ordering off the room service menu for dinner tonight...
di7 set for eating, or di7, dispersed
the di 7, some people purchase a di***** set for eating formally
di7.32 and di7.60 respectively
sorry, di7/60
di7.60 - diluted, not concentrated
ac fan not working in my dad's room in hosp . they are unconcerned

they called it in. it happened to 3 others also
di 6 / 24 please
when my Dad was in hospital for 6 weeks, the best nurses were the men. They cared about the patients not just the job
ah, so it'll get taken care of.
di6.24 - fishing tool; compound word

that's fairly typical, depending on how people are scheduled.
well some just don't want to be bothered, to be blunt about it. he is not a complainer, so they take advantage
well some just don't want to be bothered, to be blunt about it. he is not a complainer, so they take advantage

clinh cordinator actually said let his nurse phone in ac, cc had done enough today. nurse was onb break at the time
oy. has point, but not good service. CC could have relayed msg to nurse.

Nice! That's a rare treat from food pantry
most food pantries only offer caned and packaged goods, we are very luck. cabbabe, tomatoes, potatoes, yellow and green squash, radishes
sheesh, I cannot type but you get the idea
E flat, B flat, and F flat walked into a bar and ordered drinks. The barkeep said "we don't serve minors", so E flat left, and B flat and F flat shared an open fi5 between them.

yvw, katie
would like to work in a soup kitchen too but none near me
clue for the ni 7/40 please
kholrabi is yummy - i grew up eating it.
ni7 - plural of neat/swell/groovy
i remember explaining to people how to prepare it when i was a cashier.
what do you do with it, how do you =cook it, If they have it again I will ask if I can have it
break off stems, peel it, coarse chop, steam and toss with some butter, salt, and pepper is how we ate it. Also put it in soups.
sounds easy enough. what does it taste like?
ty dc I really should have got that one on my own!
i don't know how to describe - not as green as collards, yet turnip-like
though texture between parsnip an turnip

Dear Miss Manners: Is it proper for a young lady to brush her teeth in the presence of a young man? . . . A: Only if an improper act preceded it.
he's not dead; he's pining for the fi5s!
(usually with an fj)
LOL Seain! What a thing to come in to ;)

fi + That's an ***er, private!
Hi NB

Wahoo, Katie!!!
Oh, not too bad, thank you :) though so exhausted even the punters commented on my haggard appearance ;)
how about yourself, Seain?
alright, ty :) i want to go for walk; maybe after the sun goes down -- they claim it'll dip below 80F tonight
fireworks here
congrats, wvteach
I feel a nap coming on...BBL
Wonderful, wvteach!!!
Wow, if it's that hot at night, I don't want to know what it's like during the day!
only 99F today
down to 97 now
Not too sure of my F/C conversions, but pretty sure that's hotter than I'm willing to go ;)
it's been very, very hot in Eastern NA last many days
DC, you guys are getting it! We are consistently lower than you!
beautiful icon, red!
37C
I'm sure we're lower than both of you here in Blighty ;) been getting a little rain, even...
thanks, leftover from the 4th...
it hit 39C in the city, 38C here yesterday
103 in centralpark, new record for today
balmy 31 here...
joy. they claim it'll break tomorrow or friday -- we'll see
31 C that is.
Ouch, Seain! If it goes above 30, the whole of England strips off. Some sights you see..
that's more usual for here, red

yes. break with 94 then 87.
er, i see it is time for me to go.
my mom was complaining...but she has just been at the beach in RI...
103, TO? That sounds nasty...in such a busy place too...
NB, british diplomats got hazard pay for serving in a tropical environment for being stationed here in DC until 1976, when the whole of the embassy complex got AC.
be well, TO, and i hope things look up for your dad soon!
that whole area can get very muggy in the summer.
How on earth do you stand it, Seain?! I'd melt into puddles...
best wishes TO.
i grew up here.
NB, we would find the UK chilly at times...
in 2003, i took my mom to New York City for pride week. After 3 days, we spent an afternoon in the rain forest exhibit at the Central Park Zoo, because the air in NYC is so dry comared to here.
You might find the UK chilly full stop ;)
i found Boston chilly in the summer when i lived there.
Boston gets high temps that are like the low temps in the Summer here.
Wow, bet that was some celebration, though! Pride day was lots of fun in London this year..
They estimated a million people partying on the streets!
ac unit replaced, btw
ooohhh... who's talking about boston???
i was, pinny
that's good, TO
i'll be there on saturday!
Hiya, Pinny :) that's a cute picture!
"booze-ohol " first i'd seen that, in an invite from a friend.
I am glad for central air, though it is not much of a luxury as a needed thing here.
hi NB! that's my perfect angel (my niece) who was 'doing running in the buttercups'!
yes red, i remember the joyous summer we finally got AC when i was 14.
beautiful photo, pinny
thanks dc! i actually took it on my blackberry
We never had central air in PA,but I will say I think we could have used it. My parents had a wall unit, the kids got fans....
this year I have been using those room darkening cutrains with a lot of success...
yes, drawing the drapes/blinds in the day does wonders for keeping things cool!
hi friends, staying cool here - it was 105 yesterday, only about 99 today
glad to hear it's cooling a bit there, jbv
It's actually 31C (90F) here this afternoon -- only a few days ago it was in the teens C (60s F)
that's quite warm for there, no, jilli?
This is our first really hot day of the summer.
Yes, it's warm for here -- no breeze from the ocean.
it was 101F/38C in the city today.
but it's the sudden change from Monday (60s) to Wednesday (90!)
breeze - on the rare day we get breezes in the summer, it's not too bad.
apparently we're getting the hot air from inland (what a surprise, lol!)
fi 5/18??...... my mponkey is siffering from heat stroke
he's pining for the fi5s! (fi5 is usually a fj5)

hello NB!
Evening, Jill :) I love your icon picture!
Thanks, NB -- yours is pretty nice too ;)
lol! thank you ;)
You really should go in for modelling or something.
Funnily enough, our friend is trying to talk me into doing just that :) I think I'm too short though. Don't exactly have that manly look, either!
no harm in trying!
there, in theme now
that's beautiful, dc :)
I guess you're right, Jill, but I'm not sure how much rejection my fragile ego can take ;)
Hi NB!
Evening, Science! :)
hello everybody
and hello, Jac :)
Well, it is storming like crazy here! Think will have more than 5 inches of rain tonight. We had 8 in two days last week!
Hello Jac, and Jilli and everyone else who has here...

Awww, thanks Jill :) And hi again, Mojo! The rain always reminds me of summers back where I'm from - especially night. Seem to be the clearest memories I have of my early childhood!
I lost part of my message, which was to say hi to all of you.
Jilli, thanks for putting the icon themes in your profile. Tomorrow is Sprites Birthday folks1!!!
16 for me.
Thanks, Kaplan :) I try my best ;)
I'm not ready to ask for clues, but go Jillibus!
it's cold, wet and windy here
Sprite has lots of us in her My Friends so even if she's not here when we are she will see our greetings (hint hint)
nice and hot and sunny here. looking forward for September.
I want to get a very nice icon for her! She is such a cheerful influence.
Yeah, Sprite is a great influence around here :)
ah-- nice to find ti6/36 here -- that's what we called lunch in China days.
is the theme just rock crystals or can any crystals be used?
I think you can choose what you like -- nothing was specified.
thanks
i just changed my pic too lol
wanted to share a gorgeous skyline with you all
sprite chose a painting of a globular crystal something-or-other
but it hasn't come up
That is pretty, Jac! I can see it. Did you take it yourself?
I see it when I click on your icon, jacq -- and wow, is it gorgeous indeed!
yes i did take it myself it's the view from my new boyfriends garden
i have taken hundreds of sunset photos from here
it has to be the best pic i ever took that doesn't involve a family member
Oooh, new boyfriend, eh? Sounds exciting!

As a reader and a writer, I'm still not totally in favour of all this electronic book stuff. How do you get the sight and the smell of books on shelves from that?
Or crack open a new book to read?
me too jac
I have to hold it in my hands
I'm with ya Jac...I love the smell and feel of real books..
Can you write in the margins of a Kindle?
Me, too, ruru. And to get a sneezing fit from the smell of new print. (An allaergy I picked up working near a printers.)
what's a kindle?
An electronic book reader.
Kindle is amazon's electronic book reader
A kindle is a net book thingey.
what IS this list you speak of pink? 4th day on babble
what - you probably can if you've downloaded the correct software.
foit
wht, I meant.
Mojo, go to the bottom of the screen, you will see a list of babble related sites, Click on Lickety's babble clues. that's the list we speak of.
But that requires me to type correctly.
thanks!
Hi, lbd and Mojo
hi everyone! Hi Jellen, I read that you and Tim are HOME!!
Hi Mojo, welcome to BabbleLand where the inmates *are* the asylum.
wht - probably, unless its a virtual handwriting programme.
good for you jac.. i see you got your mojo working..lol
Yes we are...
Mojo - you do know that we are all totally insane here?
any news on the test results?
No news yet...
actually mojo.. I am the only sane one here..and I herd all the others
If Mojo has been on the last four days/nights, s/he probably has read the weirdness that goes on here.
Keeping my fingers crossed for some good news for you Jellen.
ruru - it's working now at 2.35am on a Thursday morning, but might not be when my old boss arrives at 9.30am Friday to collect me for our old work mate's funeral. I need my 8 hours sleep.
Jellen - fingers crossed here, too.
Mojo - ruru is talking total bovine excrement. You do realise that?
that accounts for all the typos here.. we are all crossing our fingers for TIm and Jellen
Only sane one? Herd us? Pshaw!
lol
**breaks out shepards stick.. move back over there jac.. nice and easy*
Egads! Ruru is mad! LOL
That is not a crook, ruru, it is a crock.
Reme, ber the pshaw and the egad, Mojo. You mioght need them for the grid.
ruru can't even spell 'shepherd'. Giggles.
ruru, you have *quite* the imagination!!! Or else we need to put you in the funny farmfor your hallucinations
Is this a cue for me to post as link to 'They're Coming To Take Me Away', Nef?
My fingers are crossed... I can't type
yep, that woud do perfectly for ruru tonight
*a link to, I meant. Having these crossed fingers makes typing correctly difficult.
Well, with a good number still left unsolved, it is a fine time to pull the off button and go watch the news of the day. Actually, why do i bother, no news is good news. Best evenings (time of day, your choice0 to all.

ruru - jac finsished the puzzle hours ago, and needs no muzzle from any pro. She's listening to metal and in fine fettle. Stick that in your pipe and smoke it, bro!
*grins*
'Bye wht. See you again.
lol
ni7 please?
Minski - quickies. Most lithe.
ruru - glad you liked it!
thanks again Jac! You're on a roll tonight!
Anyone can write rap, performing it is more difficult, especially if you are not black and from USA streets.
Or a marshmellow trying to do same.
ni7 rhymes with 50's
It always works if you're black but, if your are Eminem, it doesn't.
Horses for courses, and all that.
emimem is vanilla ice with a bad drug habit
Oh, and swear words don't help. They just make you look like you are not intelligent enough to think of a better word. That note is to all nationalities, colours, etc.
Does anybody have a clue for the of 8/75 word please
(je concur jac)
not on and not handwrite but
je' rojoice, ruru.

I won't even eat M & M's anymore ...

I saw that clue earlier. Put an e at the end of desert word plus men's neckwear and it did not work for me.
ruru - I never ate them in the first place - nasty chemical things.
men's neckwear, plural?
Thank you for the pi 7/32 clue. I just found the word.
y/w Min, whichever of us found it for you.
so6/36?
so6/36 = "box" above the cupboards (construction term)
so6 is the wood or plastic thing under your roof guttering.

Ah, Mojo, I love Cousin **! Looks just like me and my daughter before we part our hair and dry it.
looks like my son!
Christine - about Elton John? Someone was saying that's he'd railed against 'fags', yet hie is a confessed one.

But I've known Reg Dwight before you were born, Christine.
Hi, TO.
Hi, TO
mayi have a clue for do6/24 pls?
more daft, TO.
I just caught your entry, and couldn't match it to anything that had been said, so I wondered what caused you to say that - everyone on this board seems most protective of anyone's lifestyle, so it caught me offguard.
Hei 72 Temple Owl! How are you? Welcome to the grid
More out of it, due to anaethesia, maybe?
Before I was born? Girl, I'm older than dirt!
ty (thinking) jellen, home?
Christine - that's okay.
Yes, home!!!
Speaking of being older than dirt, as Christine just did, has anyone caught sight of the PLANCK telescope's pic of the universe? We're not even a speck in it, and though they try to tell us we're seeing the whole universe, we're not, because we are only seeing as far as PLANCK's lense let us.
good. alwyas makes things better.
I hope so...
An old schoolfriend of mine is now married to an astrophysicist, who has invited us to look at and through his big telescope. Can't wait!
Jacula, I was there!!
I told you - I'm o-l-d !
Christine - at PLANCK?
no, at the big bang.
LOL, Christine.
So, can you tell us what caused it and what was there before it, Christine?
Are you going to accept her invitation? May I come along?
if of 8 if not on plus a grid word, can some one pls provide the stats for that grid word?

So, how do you dress to met all the 20 somethings you were once one of, and the 50s somethings that were there, too, 20+ years ago? We're going to a funeral, but the lady whose funeral it is mothered us all, whatever age we were. It's got to be black, I think, but nothing too heavy for me, sine my hot flushes are legendary. Wonder if it's the same for my 50+ ex work mates and those in their 60s and 80s? There may be a few in their 30s on board too, clever girls we selected from whatever the name ogf the Government work from school initiative was back in 70s to 80s.
hi and nbt
Hello joshuavorbis! How are you? Welcome to the grid
There were 29 of us in our office. Most of us are in our 5os now. 4 are in their 80s and some more in their 60s. A few younger.

What type of work did you do, Jac?
shalom and hi y'all
I worked in the motor trade, Nef. In charge of them getting computerized back in the 70s.
I got all of UK motor dealers on computer.
Then, in the late 80s and early 90s I did the same for the UK Fire Services.

Jacula, a passing thought - I didn't offend you when I asked about your posting?
But, I'm 'just a housewife' now. Nef.

why not, Jac?
Hasn't she found anyone else?
Or does she just plan to mess up his life forever?
Nef - no idea why not! Other than she refuses to sign forms.

But, apparently, she realised how much she 'loved him' after running away for 10 days after her daughtetr had told her what had been going on.
In California, we have no-fault divorce. If one wants it, s/he gets it. The spouse is notified and can appear at court, but can't refuse a divorce. Why would you want to remain married to someone who announces s/he wants out?
phantom: opioid
She actually can't stand the guy, but money an being able to stay in her house and keep her 3 horses means more to her thann keeping her daughteer.
So, am I wrong about 'evil woman'?
you know, that just turns my stonach, Jac. He needs to be hung up by his nu**
mo7?
It turns my stomach, too, nEF. aND i DOUBT THE PAEDO'S NUTS ARE BIG ENOUGH FOR HIM TO BE HUNG UP BY.

This sevil woman is still with the ****** that molested her daughter? She should be in jail, awaiting trial for murder..
*evil, of course
I agree, Christine
MO7 AND 8 ARE WORDS FOR VOLCANIC FARTS.
Sorry, didn't mean to shout.
SOrry to upset you, Jac; but please don't yell
(volcanic farts, hmmmm . . . )
moffie
sorry, but it isn't a word
Mind you, I did get kind of het up thinking back to my stepdaughter's past home life.
But she still doesn't feel that here is her home. She still misses 'him'. That#'s the victim thingey isn't it?
it is indeed, Jac.
She misses him more than she misses her Mum. She also has an unhealthy inerest in becoming obsessed with much older men.
**still thinking**
Of course, we'd always raise trial-money for any woman accoused of murdering anyone who molested he child (or any child, for that matter).

Hello Mojo1158! How are you doing? Welcome to grid!
Her Dad can see that bu can't help too far, in case she becomes obssessed with him. It's up to me now, to tell her she's pathetic when she triueis to get a photo of a male teacher that once taght both of my kids, who are in their 20s now. Let's hope her counsellor can hjelp.

I'm glad to hear she's in conceling. At least she has a chance at normalcy I would think
I didn't want to become involed in her counselling, having run the gamut of all the useless crap when my daughter was ill. However, I think I might have to step in for my stepdaughter, since her father isn't doing so.

YAY, MIN!!!! WTG!!!
OMGosh - a terrifying age anyway, then all this baggage. Did the mother not do anything, police-wise, about this man, or is she really more interested in him than in her child's physical/emotional health. This alone should be enough to get the divorce business finalized since she's obviously a bad role for the little girl.
smarvelous Min!
Goodbye Jacula! I'll see you tomorrow in the chat log!

hi jilli ;)
hey jill!
what a beautiful icon!!
I thought I was going to have a lazy day but it didn't turn out that way.
Thanks, stid!
Hi jillibus! How are you doing? Welcome to the puzzle!
brb (koda's calling)
Hi Min! I almost went to Columbia (well, Barnard for girls in those days) and many of my friends did. I chose McGill in Montreal instead.
Even though I had a scholarship to Barnard, McGill and residnece was cheaper in 1943!
My mother and I didn't have much money when Dad was interned in Hong Kong.
Does anyone need clues? I finished this aftenoon.
Wow! Did I chase everyone away?
so what made your day busy, jill? I was running errands. A lot of back and forth today.
and just putting together an icon for sprite...
Congratulations jillibus on finishing early! Good for U!
filling the many bird feeders, watering thirsty plants, making shortcakes for the yummy fresh strawberries I got yesterday, sorting through them for the least ripe ones, etc etc etc,
nothing important, just making my back ache!

Hello Ping! How are you doing?Welcome to the chat log
I will look foward to it -- I meant to write to folks during the small break in June, but wasn't recovered enough. Now the goal is to do something in three weeks when the summer classes are over.
Hi Min - and thanks! how are you?
Oh, thanks stid - makes me feel a little less uniquely dull-witted!
dull-witted we may be, dofith, but never alone! *shares choclit*
I am well, but my internet keeps coming and going. It is very annoying. I don't know if it's computer or the wireless router. Fortunately,I finished puzzle already
