yvw shdy...sleep well!!!
wow, jilli, the shanghai of your youth is nothing like the one of today! Even less so than i imagined.
hi - bottom row grey (big whoop)
grem you done yet?
same here, melon! ^5
here too!
View along the Bund (rhymes with fund) -- the pointed roof was called the Cathay Hotel, the one before it was called the Palace Hotel, the street between them was Nanking Road.
phant lysosome
i have left column and bottom row grey
The Shanghai of today is across the Whangpoo River (old spelling) in what was just a bunch of shacks called Pootung.
interesting, jilli :)
got the i !!
So I have 2 words -- spent too much time enjoying memories, sigh!
well done, gadget
the memories are worth it :)
memories are important!

brb - taking koda out
grem! 11 minutes! Whoo HOo!!!!
hi stid!
wow, stid, the little one looks a lot like his dad
use that oi7 in a sentence recently did you?
:-D that's the elder stidkid! and yes, he does.
I look for it when I see le5, because it's contained within oi7 reversed
alternate spelling would be an oe7, changing just that second letter
new wond to me, ty grem
*trying to think through gremlinn's logic*
If there were a P here, a phant would be pygmy
that makes a lot of sense grem!
stid: I remember words together when one's contained within the reverse of another, like if I find "united", I look for "detinue"
Grems' logic is like Stephen Wright's (sp?)
sweet! that takes a really good memory
that makes sense, just a VERY different way of seeing the patterns. I envy you that skill.
when I see "united" I see "untied"
fygmy: a small mediterranean fruit?
or more often just words that *almost* have that pattern like the pair "antelope" and "polenta"
lol. stid!
and it worked... once you explained it I "saw" the word!!! 7 greyed!
so, how did you call up the oi7/32?
from seeing le5
hello everyone late flip for another dinky one
howdy, west
*wonders if grilled antelope would taste good with polenta*
hi west
oh, I see -- or better: I don't see...
sounds good to me stid!
jilli have you seen the t-shirt
well, the first le5
hey west!
"Dyslexics of the world UNTIE"
not yet, west *looking*
hey stid
*untieing like crazy*
yes, I see it now -- but your patterns elude me...
I didn't even change my icon
Oh, I see now, west -- great one!
the plumbing is in and ready for the washer/dryer
oh yay
cool, west!
wonderful! so we can have clean clothes again soon!
Good for you, west!
we can and no more laundromat

We did however go to see the Yuyuan Garden in shanghai and the "Garden of the Master of Nets" in Suzhou -- both very beautiful. Came home with a silk duvet from the silk factory in Sushou.
*poof* <-- so glad to be able to write that again!
be well, stid
roly-poly I thought...
bye stid (when is this schooling going to end for stid?)
sounds like a very lovely trip, nan
nbt
oops no
I wonder of Yuyuan Garden is what used to be Jessfield Park, near where our apartment house was on Yu Yuen Road where we lived until I was 8.
okay now nbt
it was indeed Seain -- most amazing was that we travelled 1100 miles up the Yangtze and other than in the gorges, the river never narrowed appreciably
I will post a photo of it tomorrow jill
It's one of the World's great rivers for a reason :)
You see, all the names of places I knew have changed. It's so sad.
What is my old school now, I wonder. And the Cathedral?
back (for a few more)
we didn't see a cathedral
the cathedral is still there, and still in use, my friend tells me, assuming you mean the Roman Catholic one
it's not far from the Shul and Synagogue
It was a beautiful building -- not huge though.
I mean the Church of England one, dc.
St Ignatius?
on Puxi Rd? (pooshee as pronounced)
Our last home was at 433 Avenue Haig, next to the Cathedral Girls' School. It was an apartment house and ours was on the 5th floor.
http://tinyurl.com/2ckyj66 indicates it's there and in use
Not St Ignatius -- unless it's been taken over by the RCs. I don't remember thename of the street.
ah, no Holy Trinity is the Anglican one
it's being rebuilt, as of 2006
That sounds more like it.
recent news about it : http://tinyurl.com/383bllv
what does the 7 start with?
oe7
hmmm
it's oi7
still hmmmmm
oh, right, listen to Mi
dc, I just googled the Holy Trinity Cathedral, Shanghai, and instantly remembered the building. We didn't go habitually but I have an old photo of me as a Brownie getting ready fora parade with that building in the background
oe8 - not in this grid, is the same word, though.
very nice, jilli :)

or possibly ex-wife-to-be
ty miz
LOL jilli
yw, nan
lol jilli sounds like a girl with that name wouldn't be too likable
I guess I'd better get back to the grid.

She was a sneak. I got blamed for something she did and she never owned up.

I strive to be among the speed demons; however, I don't believe it will happen anytime soon! :)
monkeys did a lot of work tonight
pini I enjoy relaxing with this game if I finished too soon I'd have to do things
I have no interest in being a speed demon, missing the fun of the chat
smart thinking, west!
and what jilli said too
my monkeys are finding (un)words just by hitting random keys!
Karlheinz Stockhausen wrote a composition about yl4
ah, yes, another good point, jilli!
Jill -- does the new icon look familiar?
you know so much doug
I had a record of it many years ago
No, nan -- unless it's an addition to Jessfield Park. But I think I can find the new name for our park -- just a minute...
I confess I've never heard of him was he a pianist?
Jillibus - that name struck a chord, so I googled it. There's a photo of your friend ...
that is too funny Christine
Zhongshan Park is the new name for Jessfield. Did you get to see it, nan?
J.G. Ballard, Christine? I didn't know him, but he's a well-known author now and wrote the book the movie Empire of the Sun was made from.
ah thought you meant Reginette
I love that movie!!!! One of my favorites!
(humming tune now)
No, Jillibus - a photo of Reginette, 1945.
Probably not, Jill -- I think it was a private garden belonging to some nobleman -- probably was not open to the public when you were there. We were only in Shanghai for 2 days -- did a tour of Old Shanghai, Yuyuan Garden, the Bund, Shanghai Museum and a silk carpet workshop.
oh so you did mean her
Really! I'll have to look.
The third day we wnt to Sushou then on to Nanjing where we boarded our ship.
The name Reginette seemed familiar, not the surname. But I doubt it is the same person.
Stockhausen was a prolific German composer of the 20th century. I saw him conduct one of his compositions called Sirius, a composition commissioned for the US Bicentennial
Off to catch some zzz's -- still trying to get back on the NA time clock
I will look him up doug thanks
fireworks
yay m9 !!
wtg m9
good night nan happy dreams and welcome back
night nan
There's a second entry for your friend, but it's in Chinese, so --
Christine, there can't be two Reginette Felgates in China and I'm sure that's her in the picture although I wouldn't have recognised her! I last saw her in 1939 and the pic was in 1945. Wow! The connections we make via Babble!!!
British songbird Di4 is in the grid, didn't expect her to be a word. This grid is a lot like yesterday's grid...
my 5 anyone?
YAY m9!!!
my + *** Cherise (sp)
looking the wrong way there
thanks pini
yw ;)
I put up my clue icon
beautiful photo, ruru -- what is it?
I think it is an Ansel Adams
oh, yes....very pretty!
black and white with half dome...good odds
but doesn't really have his flavor... hmmm...
yup. it's him.
ty for the ico0n clue, m9 :)
yw jilli.

yeah Pini.. it's Cid Charrise. perhaps *** Viscious would be a better clue!LOL
oops. Vicious.
;)
ok. and i'm out! *poof*
night m9
<-- fading, but fighting for the finish line! (9)
may have to hold them for tmw
I guess I'd better settle down and look for some words!
hello. Did anybody see last night's chat? I found two vipers IN MY STUDIO. One was dead and the other went back outside
viper?
snake?
yikes!!!!
just some every now and then, jilli ;)
Ooh!
Were they really vipers?
yes. We went outside this AM and killed the second one with greast difficulty.
wow!
Nasty!
they are amazing with extremely tiny head, maybe 15-18" long
* shudder *
there are only 2 kinds of snakes here: coulouvres (very large (4 - 5 ft but benign and I've never seen one) and vipers
I occasionally see a little grass snake in my garden, that's all!
I'm not afraid of snakes in general, only poisonous ones (I'm not that stupid)
the worst of it was that it was INSIDE
I enjoy seeing none!
(unless captive in a zoo)
firewords
Hooray jilli!
hello douglas
I guess the snakes were trying to cool off in the house!
Elroy, as in "His boy Elroy" is in the grid...brain is flailing at itchy, scratchy grid
Hello ruby...sorry to hear about the venomous snakes...something one doesn't see everyday
Rubyfoo - that's awful; here, in L.A. we get ants in the summertime, but only in the bathroom sink, looking for water I guess.
I tried to get mnbt, but couldn't get the northwest s without morewords...still don't have the northern i
my husband, who is terrifiied of snakes, was able to dispose of them. His protectiveness about the dogs overcame his fear, but he was very shaky afterwards.
I really like snakes, but not poisonous ones.
what was surprising about these was that their head were so small. I always thought that vipers had noticeable triangular heads.
here's my icon clue
I'm still a little worried that there is a nest somewhere is this garden as I think they give birth to live, poisonous, babies
NBA player (Car)melo Anthony is in the grid
if I hold that up, will it keep snakes away! or pin it on my door
(that was for jilli)
doug, that I is in6/21 -- strangely, it was my first word!
I wish it would, ruby!
like St. Patrick!
douglas: did you see the obit for Manute Bol?
a hint for the in6 pls.
ruby, what makes you so sure it's a viper, when it has a small head?
I read a number of articles that gave the impression that he was a wonderful human being, in addition to being an NBA shot-blocker extraordinaire
As far inside as possible, ruby
in6 -- opp of out-fewest
because there are only 2 kinds of snakes here and the tiny head was definitely triangular. I inspected it. Plus, a viper killed a donkey not far from here and my friend who lives about 1000 ft highter has found two in her garden.
fish please
got it, ty jilli
I see. I just googled images for vipers so I wondered.
anyway, much as I'd like to stay and clue I must go to bed. I guess it's all the coughing that's making me so tired!
hino, nile, eloi, elroy, lors...just some of the things I'm trying that aren't working
how about a tuna, daou?
why are you coughing so much? It must be exhausting
I guess enable hasn't read orwell
It's the remains of a cold I got on June 24.
isn't roleo a loggers' contest?
*doug, not daou (typo time again)
fish?
If I had a small amount of money for every time eloi was in a crossword puzzle, I'd have a lot of money
doug wanted a fish coz of the in6 I guess
Yes, a fish for being slapped with for not seeing in6
hahah
you may need to refresh to see my icon clue
is was looking for one in the grid
And now I shall leave you all and say goodnight and *poof*
feel better, jilli!
good night all...*poof*
ya, half, now I can get dressed
watch out for vipers!!!
I am spooked
Pretty bird, Jillibus -- and goodnight.
Half at last - I can go to bed!
good morning all. how many words are there today
80
thanks
yw
OK
jeez - and I thought yesterday's grid was bad....
hello again. Too many adventures for one morning!!
Hello ruby.
hello frances
Lovely sparklies!
Gosh, isn't it quiet on here today?
Hi Frances, ruby, anyone else.
hi sally, fran, ruby, fish chris and everyone
Hi sandy! Was thinking I was invisible :-)
Been searching everywhere for my last mo4, and have just realised I already have all the 4's.
Well, think I will tootle off for now. Hi and bye everyone.
bye sally
hello all! sandy, beautiful celtic cross!
hi sprite, I need to change it of course
but I am glad I got to see it!
I have been to lunch today and just got home
did you have a good time?
it was my last birthday celebration a lunch at a girlfriend's place it was lovely and she gave me lots of lovely presents as well
awwww that is so special! Am happy for you. You deserve it.
are you ok? Ihaven't seen you lately
am ok. Just going to a pretty intense period of therapy. It is taking up a lot of my energy and I play babble at odd hours. Thanks for caring.
hope you are ok
yes I really am. It is tough but I can feel this is exactly what is needed now. Am positive, this will bring me closer to who I really am.
well just stay positive and remember how fabulous you are
and how clever
lol not fabulous nor clever, but yes, starting to feel I am worth being alive.
good morning Babblers
hey Nanette :)
you know sprite you are fabulous and clever and you better start believing it - hi nan
thanks sandy :) I promise I'll try.
i echo thos sentiments Sprite. Don't ever doubt yourself
thanks Nanette :)
I've met her in person and can attest to her fabulosity and cleverness. Hi folks. Sorry no new icon-- at work an dhad no time yet, will also be in and out of chat without warning.
hi MG good to see you if only for a few moments
work comes first, MonkeyG. Thanks for the kind words. How is work?
Great. I really do get a lot of time to just do my own thing (and will start keeping up with the icosn again soon). Kind of creepy today; someone brought in a knife with blood on it wrapped in a newspaper from 1943, which he just found in his wall and really wanted out of his house. So now I have iut here at the reception desk in a big box...
that is very odd and creepy!
oh my goodness thats creepy]
so what will happen now with the knife and newspaper?
I wonder if it might help solve some crime that happened way back then?
Do you work at the police station monkey?
Hello sprite. Long time no see. How are you?
am good, Frances, and how are you?
hi Frances
I'm good too thanks. Having a restful day off from cricket.
playing or watching or both?
Scoring.
cool!
I love it.
Did you see that I've at last put up a picture of my favourite hound?
ohhhhh omg he is sucking on a bib! That is so sweet.
is he a german short haired pointer?
He owns my granddaughter was a baby she refused to suck on a dummy and spat it out. He took over.
No he is a weimaraner/Hungarian vizsla cross.
you must have had quite a laugh at that
he looks beautiful
I still laugh at the picture - eight years later.
He is wonderful sandy. The most intelligent, calm dog I have ever known. Ellie adores him.
And he follows her around like a shadow.
we used to have a GSP that is why I asked
Yes, a lot of people think that too sandy.
the love is mutual then. So wonderful.
Oh yes.
ours was spotted and was very loyal to the family
They are very loyal and make wonderful companions.
I also love him to bits.
he is totally loveable, even from one pic.
Thank you sprite. He is a very affectionate dog.
ok this grid is a little tighter than last small one. Running out of words to try with 21 left.
those dogs are very attractive, I used to take ours riding with me
Need any clues sprite?
44 left here
oh no, not yet, thanks Frances. I love pushing my mind for so4 more words.
Sandy, Riz runs for hours in the forest. And I do mean hours.#
hounds can run for ages - I used to hunt and the foxhounds could run for 5 hours and still be energetic
that is amazing. So they need a LOT of excercise every day to keep them happy and healthy.
we used to chase kangaroos here and they move very fast - we only had one kill in 5 years
hope no activists are listening
Every year when the vet sees him for his checkup he asks if he can have him if ever my son gets fed up with him. He says he is the healthiest dog he has ever seen. He is ten next month.
wow Frances, that is a huge compliment!
Isn't it just sprite?
Hounds are not suitable for farm life as they are true hunters , but I wish they were, I would love another one- but they are true to their heritage
I like kangaroos, sandy, but I think most people who don't live with them do.
We always said that we would love to see him race a greyhound over a long distance. The greyhound would give up.
you could get together with lyn then.
Sounds like a good idea.
I love kangaroos too Sprite. We used to have joey's for pets when we were little - they are very cute and follow you around everywhere you go but kangaroos are amazing breeders and do a lot ofdamage to the farmers land...
and they jump over the fences so easily
yes that is what I meant when I said people who don't live with them. I know they can be a pest too. So no judgement from my part!
Oops, got busy here. I work at the Institute for War Documentation. The knife will be put into the objects collection in the cellars. The newspapers will be added to the newspapers collection unless we already have these editions.
am sure lyn would love the idea too :)
so no police involved, MonkeyG? Must remember, if I ever murder anyone, to put the weapon in a very old newspaper, grin.
and hide it in the wall spirte!
Funny sprite.
Heehee! problem is, then you have to age it and the blood coinvincingly and make sure you sealed it inside a wall that has not been opened-- even by you-- in 65 years.
hah but I am not that silly. I would hide it in somebody else's wall of course ;)
ah yes you must be clever about it :)
let them find it. No, just kidding. Must be a rather creepy thing to find.
Yeah, the guy really wanted to get rid of it ASAP, and I can't say as to how I blame him.
after all that time you might think that the rats had eaten the body
lol sany
The guy found it in a niche when he puilled out an old freezer unit and widened the gap for the new freeezer unit.
eeeewwwww
it probably was a murder weapon - why else would it be there
interesting controversy in perth at the moment - a butcher here has started to sell horse meat- he has received over 2000 nasty emails along with death threats!! I don't want to eat any but in Europe I believe it is commonplace
the problem is, there were so many murders in those years. It might have been a weapon from the resistance. But of course it could just as well have been a private thing. Scary.
and to hide it in the wall behind the freezer lends to the mystery
most butchers here sell horse meat too
and hello evryone
*everyone
hey Annie :)
hi Annie
hi sprite and Nono
he is the only one in Perth - lots of butchers sell kangaroo meat
hi annie
hi sandy
will be back in a little while
bfn Annie *hugs*
Oops, back again now. Yes, certainly a murder weapon. That street was one of the densest hotspots of Nazi occupation, sadly. Whether someone killed a Nazi with it or was killed by one I do not know. Obviously we hope for the former...
must be the former, MonkeyG. No nazi had the need to hide his atrocities.
hello again, just checking for snakes!
I hope it was the former
fireflies! Nice grid.
hi rubyfoo, most babblers aren't snakey at all.
no snakes here ruby, they go away in winter
Good point, Sprite!
We killed two vipars -- one in my studio last night and one just outside the door this morning!
I think they came into the studio to escape the heat
vipers* with an a, it looked like a babblet
the fl 6 reminds me of a horror film
goodmorning all
my computer is very sluggish, must be suffering from the heat, too
hello kallia and monkey and sprite and, of source, sanddyloo. I am already gaining weight from the pavlova!

oi6 - the guys in the Gulf
hello and *poof* gotta keep pedalling!
Well this looks a little more challenging than yesterday's puzzle. I think that one only took about 8 minutes...this looks better.
Could I get a clue for the i up there on the right?
nearer the middle, Monkey.
Hmmmm.... will think on that. Thanks!
Monkey - it's a word that begins with a preposition
Ah, yes, dumb of me! Thanks!
yw ... not dumb at all; it's hard to remember to look for words over 4 letters in this grid!
I'm finding my last 20 to be unnecessarily truculent about revealing themselves. Plus people keep calling and coming in and I have to then do my job...
the O is the hardest on there. Hope you all know your ancient history
I have all but one O. I tried olmen, but aparrently this word is anathema to enable; no surprise there.
Ancient drink...not sure that'll help you unless you know the word...7 letters if that helps
It's not the 7, I have the 7, but thank youvery much.
Wype of writer
type*
didn't have that, Cheshire, thank you
nw - I've got 5 left
Got the writer too. Sorry for response delay-- someone walked in with more wartime newspapers.
2 more....
Done
Woohoo!
what is going on with your work, Monkey? I caught something about war-time daggers earlier, but didn't get a chance to look back...
'grats, Cheshire
Well, it was a kitchen knife. I'm the receptionist at the Institute for War Documentation in Amsterdam, and it seems to be clean-out-the-sttic time because people just keep walking in today with stuff they think we might want to archive.
LOL, monkey... any undetonated munitions yet?
Not since I've worked here, but I know we have some schrapnel somewhere in the cellars. I was handed a Nazi medal once; talk about getting the creeps.
If I suddenly drop out of chat it'll be because teh guy with the outgoing mail has shown up down here and I have to take it to th epost office.
Yes, it must be hard to associate Nazi medals with valour, although realistically they must have awarded some for other than 'being great at being evil'.
oh, *sigh*... off to pb. Sorry.
... but not for long, finished and running off to get some gardening done between downpours. Happy Babbling, folks.
Is anyone here and able to clue the middle two gl's?

great idea Pini
or at least Babble hours each day! LOL
and not during lunch
sometimes I have my moments!
daily babble siestas!!!
gosh, didn't mean to put people to sleep (note to self...don't say siesta in babble chog)

good morning everyone..a fair amount of currency in the grid today:)
funny how that works...
morning crossy!
that thar is, crossy
well, welcome, msid...
but a pic of gy4/8 would make everyone hungry..and we get enough of that as it is!
no kidding!
ah.. now I know that our little coin has it's root in tithing.
yeah, but if you ate a gy4/8, you'd have to go to some gy4/9 afterward
that coin you are showing is very rare indeed m9,did you know that the first official coins for you were from a melted down silver service?
why yes..I think I remember something of the sort.
all part of our make-do attitude!
do you think that coin could be in st5/14 now
bye all
ours have a lesser history, before 1858,we had upper and lower canada tokens and such and then british coinage
tired of monkeying...yl clue?
added question: would it's value be better than anything we currently have?
is there a fl4/11 in that coin?
hi 71TO

A yl 4/7 word is yl plus **, myself and I reversed Babs1
"the initial substance of the universe from which all matter is said to be derived. "

The house we bought has a window in the dining room with little shelves running across it. I like to put glass there.
my cobalt glass, and poison bottle as well as old baby bottle and glass hot water bottles were my best sellers as well as cod stoppers
fourtunately I learned about pottery and moved away from furniture, it takes up less space and returns a better revenue

here's flowers on our window shelf: http://tinyurl.com/23chsw4
they pay to have it dumped at the curb on trash day, they were a hot commodity during my college days, when ever one was ruined, we trash picked another
lol,same here
my friend has quite a few pieces of street find furniture. very nice ones! She lives in Manhatten.
my girl friend would like those flowers m9, nice view
we have two pink dogwoods in our front yard, and a purple and a white lilac in the back
and all sorts of other flowers. My dd always has an arrangement in here somewhere!LOL
m9 did you hear abt the painting trash picked NY 4 yrs ago, worth millions at auction, search NY times online, lady walking dogs found it after it hit the curb
not surprised. In NY that's how they do it. just put it out on the street. I bet it was some angry wife or something!LOL
every stick of furniture is used and over 12 years old in this house with the exception of our new futon which i had custom made locally, has a nice heavy wood frame with a thick queen size cushion and done in a toffee stain
Someone just got a LeBron jersey at a yard sale I gather it's worth a pretty di5/14
that's how we are crossy. I have a 4 yo!
I have a nice wood bookshelf that I really like for I think 5 or 10 dollars on CL. One of my fave finds

infortunately, in less than 10 minutes, i have an all-hands meeting.
more commonly known as an all-yawns meeting.

i find company meetings are a waste, the whole day for everyone is shot.better off to hook up online and do a internet face to face for 20 minutes
we had one this summer as well eva,and it was also bizzare..a 5.2 i believe
only 3.6 for us. just felt like a large truck driving by. but our area doesnt get earthquakes, so everyone is all frazzled by it!

down to 16 w/o a list; hate to list now . . .
stid, what are you doing this summer? taking a course?
hello mama and Judy
had another incident last night with a distraught teen. Ah, the joys of parenting adolescents. Of course it was really something that didn't need that level of angst, but at that age EVERYTHING is VITALLY IMPORTANT (and parents just don't understand)
howdy everyone who popped while i was on eternal hold with the phone company
hey cross!
heya crossy, how's life?
yikes, Crossy. Hope they were at least playing music.
lol stid,i have a 16 year old...everything is vital..everything is critical and earth shattering lol
<-- btw Judy here they are a month ago.
yep, that's about right, cross. At least it keeps life interesting.
GREAT PIC STID
Babblemeet in the NW? *looking for tickets*
these days for myself, the only thing earth shattering i want is for my boiled egg not to crack into the water before it is cooked lol
nice pic mama
I've noticed how most everything now that I'm older is positively not earth shattering!
:-D you are always welcome Judy -- pini's going to use our tent in the back yard. We have an air mattress now so it won't be as bad as it actually sounds. (I hope)
thanks jac
wish I could come out :(

age does have some advantages

I am just hoping I live long enough to have "perspective" Judy!

Never been to Olympia. Bummer. *crying*
well, when you can, then come! I have no intention of leaving my little hovel any time soon.

I've been reading a lot of Scandanavian crime novels translated into English [British English]. We do have a lot of differences, don't we
and the daily zen/chi/wa/ka thought for the day..
After a while you learn the subtle difference between holding a hand and chaining a soul, and you learn that love doesn’t mean leaning and company doesn’t mean security, and you begin to learn that kisses aren’t contracts and presents aren’t promises, and you begin to accept your defeats with your head up and your eyes open, with the grace of an adult, not the grief of a child, and you learn to build all your roads on today because tomorrow’s ground is too uncertain for plans. After a while you learn that even sunshine burns if you get too much. So plant your own garden and decorate your own soul, instead of waiting for someone to bring you flowers. And you learn that you really can endure… that you really are strong, and you really do have worth.â€
ooh that was lovely
afternoon
howdy magyk
we do indeed bichon
I've heard that before, but I don't remember where.
take the 2 types of antiques road show for example, one is british and one is in the states.......
you tell someone in the states that the paiting is worth 100 million dollars and they lose their mind....
that was lovely crossy ty
tell a person in the u.k with the same painting and its.."oh...thats lovely..how nice" lol
ty jacq...but i did not pen it alas
the human condition is always interestin
fl6?
Super-cool guys.
in the hood.
lovely, crossy. There was a second viper this morning, this one very much alive. It took 3 of us to kill it. Arghh!
take us adults for example,we are as boring and dull as old cold dishwater.when we were young we were magical,we could be anything we wished with just a touch of imagination,a pirate,a explorer,a hunter of riches in the deepest amazon jungle.we could lay in some field all day and watch a anthill in action or turn a cardboard box into a rocket ship to the stars...somewhere along the way get get cleaned, schooled and taught to be responsible, and we get all the magic and wonder taught and groomed out of us....i try to keep a little of the child that i was in me,a part that never ages and can still dream of saving the world by flying to mars..so i try and revel in the wonder of the universe and the earth..even if it no more that to lean back for five minutes and watch an ant colony or dream of a rocket sip to the stars....lol crossy needs his meds it seems..do not get me going on us humans
{{loves crossy}}
ugh@vipers
cute, non?
((ruby))
afternoon al
wifes says that if you let me get up a head of steam that i am like a verbal case of the trotts lol
I have to admit I was afraid, but only because they're poisonous. Otherwise, I wd hv liked to inspect and maybe disect them
howdy buttons
howdy cross
how is it going
but I wd never kill a non-poisonous snake
and DH overcame his fear of snakes (extreme!) to protect his dogs. Gotta give him credit for that
nothing better to kill a fear or phobia than to face it head on
yup
I need a clue for the first mo 6/27 please
Do you have a good hoe handy, Ruby - it is quite useful, and even if the edge is not sharp enough to cut the head off, you can hold a snake down (from a safe distance!) while other measure are brought to bear. (And good for DH!)
plural of mo5/16? cash?
good tip helen
It's iffy with rattlesnakes, because they can be so strong, but these vipers sound quite small.
thanks, I thought another form was the plural, never thought of the s ending. FIREWORKS
we used a pitchfork, a stick and a window washer, 3 of us for a 14@ snake!!! The waitress at lunch said she sees them all the time and stamps on them with her foot!!!!
lolo, one persons panic is anothers annoying pest
WEll, she's right, it'll work - but you have to be awfully confident that you're faster than the snake!
their bite isn't usually fatal to people, but kills animals and is very painful. I'm getting an anti-venom kit from the druggist as I'm totally spooked now, afraid to water the garden in my sandals
Ask if the anti-venom is safe for dogs, while you're at it.
I think there must be a nest and they came into the studio to cool off!
if it is a wide spread and highly populated type of snake,a kit cannot hurt
How would you find the bite on a long-haired dog?
Evidently there are a lot of them and they come down from the mountains and cliffs above us when it is this hot. These are the first snakes I've seen in our 12 summers here
well it is also a hotter than normal summer?
clue for oi6 pls?
I don't think they're aggressive, but the idea of stomping on one is horrible. What if it bit your foot? AAAArgh!
yes, much hotter
and dryer
ooray - fireworks
yaa for kazz
If you think the dog has been bitten, the atni-venom doesn't have to go near the bite - if that's the point of your question. But it does raise the iissue of - if you don't actually know the dog has been bitten, is it dangerous to give the anti-venom because the dog is acting sort of the way you would expect if it had been bitten.
Just got that pesky oi7 - FIREWORKS!
may I have a clue for the oi6 & 7 pls?
What was your worst one, kazz?
it's a horrible thought and DH was afraid the dog would try to eat one of the dead snakes or investigate a half-dead one
nite all - friday nite off to annoy the hubby
congrats on fireworks, helens
The six is anyone of those guys at BP (or, to be fair, Shell, Exxon, etc.)
oi6 is petroleum dudes
The seven, now oi + glass melted onto a surface for colour and decoration, but with a different vowel after then.
oi 7 could be what no french honey here
thank you
the n - not then!
good on kazz!
no french honey???? lol
Back later - must catch up on news!
I'm afraid to go out and water my garden
hopefully, it will rain......
20 left and I say "uncle"
gd night everybody
gn ruby tuesday
any clues for the my's?
Love is a temporary madness; it erupts like volcanoes and then subsides. And when it subsides you have to make a decision. You have to work out whether your roots have so entwined together that it is inconceivable that you should ever part. Because this is what love is. Love is not breathlessness, it is not excitement, it is not the promulgation of eternal passion. That is just being in love, which any fool can do. Love itself is what is left over when being in love has burned away, and this is both an art and a fortunate accident. Those that truly love have roots that grow towards each other underground, and when all the pretty blossoms have fallen from their branches, they find that they are one tree and not two...pretty thought for the day
I love it Crossy!!

a little bit :-) trying to look after a stray cat at the moment so have spent most of the evening trying to work out what to do with him!
aaah, how's your cat reacting to that?

:D
God afternoon, fellow Babblers. How are you all today?
oh dear, that was GOOD, not god!
hot and sweaty - just polished brass for an hour or two... and god only knows when it was done last!
and you?
hanging in here. I was supposed to have a "grandma day today with my grandson, but the DIL messed up again.
BUT I don't want to talk about her.
oh, disappointing i'm sure...
hi doren and hi nef
cool, thenwe won't.. but you can brag about your grandson if you want... is he one year old now?
can't be as annoying as husband who managed to lock me IN the house this morning, and then blamed me for him doing so!!
hi jbv. been going down to sandy hook this summer and think of you as i pass perth amboy.. is that where you work?
yep. I love being with the grandson, and my "adopted" grandkids moved so they aren't next door anymore. :-(
worked! I retired on June 30! Still can't believe it!
he can blame you for anything ata, you are hisfmitch
hi JBV
oh yes!!! congratulations to you .. must feel wonderful
I know!! LOL!
YAY for retirement, JBV!!!
it's still like a dream - i'm enjoying the freedom to do what I want, or do nothing, etc. - it's great!
j - i'm in the process of purchasing service credit... did you know that as of november 08 out-of-state credit cannot be applied toward health insurance minimum of 25 years?
and it's funny how things work out - I got my first big project on the very day I retired - it has to do with the incredible family reunion we are experiencing (see my profile) - I am now studying Italian so we can really communicate
WHAT the heck, Dorens? That's terrible!
that's bad news, doren - the only way I could retire this year was because I bought back 10 years of service from NYC and of course it counted
i would think the reality of retirement would hit in september. even though you were in adm and probably worked during summers..
yes, I think you're right, September will be another big reality check
if I'd known, of course i would have purchased it two or three years ago. what bugs me most is that i don't think the union made us aware... can't believe i wouldn't have purchased then if i'd known, particularly since you can pay by rolling over tax deferred funds
I'm now toying with the idea of retirement myself. DH's health isn't good and I'm not doing the best job in my workplace right now. I'd retire for sake of my sanity
but if you apply now will you still fall under the old rules?
that's an excellent reason, Nef - one I can definitely identify with
no. it is very clear on the pension website... if you apply AFTER nov. 08 it doesn't count towards med ins. but it does count toward the pension formula... i'd rather have it the other way around.
nef, do you have required amount of time, etc.
one of my determining factors was the chaotic situation left after all the staff cuts this year - it would have seriously impacted my ability to do my job the way I am accustomed to doing it - well, that is
exactly, j... very good reason. IF i get my job back, it is for two schools, rather than one... more than twice the amount of work... no way i can do that job properly.. will always be behind and lacking
it's so unfair, doren, the really dedicated people were already doing more than 100%, so how can they be expected to do more?
hey all
by the way j, i had read about your italian adventure previously... sounds so exciting.. and i'm sure that brushing up on your italian can't be nearly as challenging as learning mandarin
I had a staff of 4 people directly reporting to me, two retired and were not replaced, so the other two will be sharing the work - exactly as you said, doren, impossible!
has anyone heard from Rive, have been thinking of her her her son all day
River
did you see that now christie is going after superintendent's salaries?
yikes, cannot type at all today
well, mandarin has been temporarily shelved, as I'm really into the Italian right now - in fact, today we had our first Skype phone call ! so amazing and incredible = and I actually did it!
so lots of superintendents will be retiring next year, i'm sure. schools will be even more chaotic..
yes, I saw that in today's paper
the italian must be gratifying on so many levels
Yikes, Dorens, your icon is scary
doren my feelings are so intense I can't even put them into words right now but it's wonderful
did you ever read the lost ravioli recipes of hoboken (not sure of the title)? one of my book groups chose it last summer... i just noticed my copy of it and wondered who to give it to... I think you'd like it
Dorens, I "retired" from hospital nursing 4 years ago actually pushed out - because I had an OTJ injury and can't be on my feet for more than 2 hours/day. I now manage a prenatal clinic in a pregnancy crisis center; so I still work as a nurse but not for much $$ and I don't have to be on my feet any length of time
oh peri, it's far more scary when you see it sitting on the toilet paper in your bathroom
no, that sounds interesting, I'll definitely put it on my reading list -
Sorry, had a phone call in between
I bet it is, Dorens, how big are they?
if you want to meet at sandyhook sometime next week, i'll give you mine
couple inches... .the body is about two, but the legs and antennae make it seem like five
nef, do you want to retire?
I just finished a book you folks might like: The Gastromony of Marriage, a memoir of food and love, it was written by an Italian American who is planning to marry a Chinese American and how they not only blend their lifestyles but their cooking styles as well.
the lady in the book travels to italy and connects with family on a quest for a recipe...
now we're reading atlas shrugged... just over 1,000 pages! don't know why we're doing this honestly
orle
this book has 236 papges and is fast reading
oh sorry, thought i'd try a word for a change... hope there's something good in the PB
peri, that sounds definitely like my type of book, adding it to the list!
italian and chinese cooking do blend well... think marco polo
the author is Michelle Maisto
Dorens, I LOVE nursing and my work. I loved working in ICU even more; but hated telephone triage. This job and the people I work with are great; it's the stress of being a non-profit, no money, and worrying about DH that is tough
sometimes when you have stress at home, a job can be helpful... depends on the situation and the person.
well I retired in 2007 and am on a fixed income. I had a small pension which was wiped out in 2008. now living with my sister and her husband
what did you do before retiring peri?
medical social worker, worked in hospitals, skilled nursing facilities and actue rehab center for people witt strokes, etc
again cannot type
Hello...
would you ever want to go back to work doing that?
did discharge planning and case management in my last full time job
hey Jellen, how is Tim today? How are you
hi jellen
NO, Dorens,,liked helping people but the time constraints and limitations of ins. companies made the job very difficult
Just gave Tim an enema...the mystery and romance is gone....;-)
oh (((jellen))))
people are being discharged from all of those facilities sooner than patients or familiies anticipate
Otherwise, he's doing pretty well...
when my dad lived with me i had to do all sorts of stuff that you really kind of don't want to do. it was hard
being the caregiver is not an easy job. I did it with my youngest sister
My dad hired people to do that stuff so we didn't have to...
I've got help, though...Tim's bro is here and runs the errands...
bl
Later, peri
that is good jellen for all of you

Ah! Jellen. I thought I was on my own. Good to see you.
How's the puppy?
Oh he is just brilliant! He is 'giving the paw' and 'giving the other paw', and I am working on him rolling over now. He is a really cute little dog!! :-)
I was so happy to see Tim is doing ok.
Aww...makes me want one...but I'm a little preoccupied right now...
Yes, so far...evidently, the hard part of chemo comes later...
I bet! But, you can be Godmother to Buster, if you want...
Jellen, don't anticipate the bad stuff. Take every day as it comes....
One day at a time...
In the meantime, you are now Honorary God-mother to Buster!!!!

Morning all
Hiya Lynn. How are you?

You must be joking. He has a collection of cuddly toy, (compliments of my teenage girls), a collection of shoes (mine) and an assortment of bathroom mats, toilet roll holders, and odds and ends. He is a live wire,,,,
Scramble is a word game on facebook
thanks Peri!
The contents of the kitchen bin holds a particular fascination for him. He rootles in the bin and comes up with all sorts of unsavoury toys.... sigh
mmm maybe lots of walks and throwing of balls outside so he exhausts himself?
hi Peri
On Facebook theres a game called Wordy that is quite entertaining...
vet finally called back, Zoe-Anne has a urinary tract infection, still, some small kidney stones which he did not seem concerndd about. kidney function is slightly abnormal. he is putting her back on Baytril but this time a transdermal patch that I can put in her ear. hope this works

How old is Zoe-Anne, Peri?
Hello again...
hi Jellen!
Soodle! I didn't know being a godmother was as expensive as being an aunt!
Soodle is speechless
Oh My - blame Buster. He got a tad over-excited there.. sorry
Note to Babblers..... Young puppies and lap-tops do NOT go well together...
Oh no. I have murdered the chog :-(
blame Buster
Started watching a DVD...Castle (the TV series)
Jellen,I was saying, before I was so rudely interrupted by your God-dog.... Yes. You will be expected to look after the dog's moral welfare (!!) and pay for its education, and goodness knows what else. Are you sure you are up for the challenge? (Of course, being on another continent relieves you of some of your obligations...) lol
Do you have the weekend to yourself Jellen?
lol
No, Tim's mom, step-dad, and possibly his 9-year-old niece will be here...
However, I have scheduled mani-pedi and a short massage for tomorrow...
Wow, are they driving down the 700(?) miles each weekend? Good for you!
300 miles...no, I think this will do it for a while...
Yay. Good for you, Jellen. You deserve a little pampering. I hope you enjoy it. ((()))
Can't believe they're bringing a child, though...
Maybe theres method in their madness?
I think they want to make sure she sees him while he's feeling okay...
Its a tough call, no matter what.
How are you coping, Jean? Are you bearing up?
Doing pretty well today...
My thoughts and prayers are with you....
Hey - anybody out there need clues.I got fireworks a while ago....

Ahem.... Soodle is now amongst the top in the leaderboard on Babble. A place I never thought I would be. EVER!!
You seem a bit brighter Jellen, hope that it is in direct line with Tim's pain level. How often will he be having the chemo sessions?

glad to hear!
Well, I think I'm going to lie down for a bit...let my eyes really get back to normal...back a bit later...
How did the eye exam go?
...went well...
Later, Pini!
...getting new glasses for nothing cuz of the mishap they wouldn't fix on the last pair! :)
:-S
hey, I'm not complaining, I just wanna be able to see!
<--past due for an eye exam...
the other upside is that the "health" of my eyes are still impecable! the "focus" factor has deteriorated slightly.
git'r dun, jellen!
Back for a few minutes... added you on Y! Messenger a moment ago, Pini. :o)
thx shivs!!! :)
but I best be going for now...will be back in a bit...
Good evening all! May i have a clue for the corner S please?
ttfn
sy4,6 = like the poet, Sy*v*a Plath
TY!
YW! :o)
Hi, car!
l
Hi, shooshoo
Hi!
Haven't seen you in a while...
i
I am in and out all different time...no pattern to it!
how are you?
RAB = Random Access Babbling!
That is it!
I'm doing well...
Glad to hear it!
d
I am missing an S from the middle...I have so 4 x 2, st 4 and st 5...what am I missing?
hehehe, hi shoo
hi everyone!
'sup Dawg!
There are two st5 words, car...
hey car! it's hawt! how're you?
So hot....
Both st5,14s...
Got it! TY!
One isn't from the middle though... it's from the upper right corner.
Sorry, don't mind me!!
I'm way overtired... LOL!! :oP
Me too! I think my brain has melted!
My brain pictured a similar word in the grid for a moment... there's a good clue! ;o)
It's like the other st word... different vowel ending.
Hi to babblers who entered while I was eating dinner.
Oh sorry... after all that, you already had it? LOL
Hi Min!
TY anyway Shivs!
I'm not blonde for nothing, car... LOL! :oP
totally understand that one Shiv!
I only need 11 more words, yet I cannot seem to find any of them!!! GRRRR!
What are you stuck on?
It's a beastly little grid...
1 o, 3 L's, 4 m's, 2 h's and 1 D.
I'm not the best cluer, but I can try!
There are 10 "o" words... which do you need?
oi 7/32 is oi+not yes plus actor *** Gibson car.eeyore
H: I have he 5/12, he 4/6, he 5/14, and he 4/6...what am I missing?
di5/14 is di plus snake letter plus not you car.eeyore
I have that Oi word.
An he4,5 is what you need...
I have od x 2, oi x 3, ol x 2, om x 1 and or x 1
ol4/10 is o + le4/4 word. Is that the o word you need
A greeting, minus one consonant.
The family has arrived...bye for now...
TY for the H Shivs!
Bye Jellen!
You're most welcome, car!
Goodbye Jellen! I will see you later tonite in the chat!
Take care, Jellens!!
I don't have the le 4/4!!! Figures!
od5/12 is od plus Beethoven was a pian*** car.eeyore
Jay...
le 4/4 word is anagram of the li 4/4 word car.eeyore
Anagram? No...
Similar... first vowel different.
I now have 2 le 4/4 words, but the O doesn't work with either one of those!
It does, car... with another. Think of Jay.
I think his surname's spelled that way?
An ol 5/10 is o plus anagram of li4/4 word car.eeyore
I am trying O + Jay's last name and it is not working.
Then pluralise...
So sorry car.eeyore, clued the ol 5/10 wrong before.
I thought it was an le4,4 you were stuck on?
hi all, how is everyone?
OMG! I just monkeyed it! Ty for trying to help me through!
I am not always the best cluer either as you can see.
That has an "o" in it? I told you I'm not the best cluer, sorry about that.
Hi redturtlehead! How are you? Welcome to the grid!
Hi Red!
hice clye icon minver...
Probably much better than me, Minver...
Thanks redturtlehead! I am sure peeps already have.
oh typos, nice clue icon that was.
Cute dog, Minver... my brother has one like him. :o)
Taking a break...BBL
I LOVE my dog and this kind of dog.Best kind to have
Is your brother's dog have the same coloring as mine
Goodbye car.eeyore! I will see you later in the chog!
*hopes my bad cluing did not scare car.eeyore away*
*does not is
doubt it minver, I am trying to stay awake, bot not very successful...
Yes... red and white. Of course you love your dog. :o) Can't agree they're the absolute best kind to have, though... as we have a Border Collie cross (mostly BC) we love to bits, who I wouldn't trade him for world! ;o) One of the best, I'll give you that... think our own dogs are always the best, to us! ;o)
Ack, LOL!! "Who I wouldn't trade for all the world." I was changing it from "And I wouldn't trade him for the world"... not sure what happened there. LOL! :oP
I'm not a dog person & I never thought I'd ever have a dog, but we unexpectedly got this dog.I do think if I had a pitbull, german shepard, or terrier, I wouldn't like it even if it was mine.I am very picky about dogs
Oh... I'm not, because I love dogs! I've always been a doggy person... it's the soul and personality that matters most to me, as with people. :o) I could love any nice dog... or cat. We have one of those, too.
i've wanted to have a cat or two, but space dictates it is jst the dog and I.
We could take on another cat, if ours didn't think he should be the only cat on Earth! :oP
I have always considered myself to be a cat person.I grew up w/cats&dogs. Now I cannot get a cat since dog would probably scare it, but that is ok because I love my dog. Don't even want to get a right cat now.
oi7?
OMG, look at the time... good night, or morning!
oi 7/32 is oi plus not yes plus *** Gibson Shirlockc & hi
oi not yes but .. and ... gibson the actor

Goodbye Joanne123!I'll see you tomorrow in the chat
Good morning, everyone. Hope you're enjoying this grid. I'm at the point (17 left) where it is somewhat annoying - that oi7 word, for example : I'm not sure I can say it, much less use it!
Phantom: Pneumonoultramicroscopicsilicovolcanoc oniosis
Lol!
The oi 7/32 word is oi + not yes plus *** Gibson dofith
Hello dofith! How are you doing? Welcome to the grid
Hi torgone! How are you doing? Welcome to the grid!
Yes, I have it already, thanks Min - just think it's a ridiculous word!
Heyas kids .. Channeling BR for a second there ..
Oh sorry dofith. I thought you were asking for a clue
evening all, just got in. this puzzle worth attempting?
Hello Nancy Boy! How are you doing? Welcome to grid
Hello everyone - I remember some of you from a couple of years ago when I played all the time so it is good to see you! I am down to 11 for my first game in a really long time. As much fun as I remembered.
Some thought it was hard, but it is not bad with a list
Hi cbr1965! How are you doing? Welcome to the grid!
I might be seeing too much double for a list, Min ;) some lovely lads bought me a few after my shift. Wobbled home.
I found 40 listless, then after using list I got 36 more.
I'm so glad you wobbled home instead of driving home
Thanks Minveryork!
Now that I am do 4/5 with grid, I can do my story of clues. I am sure mo4/5 of you are already finished or mo6/27 do4/5, but just in case so4/5 aren't do 4/5, here is a story of clues. My hubby always gives me fl 4/11 about babbling & he sees several fl4/11s in this game, however, I LOVE babble & revel in the gl 5/18 of fireworks.Sometimes he's a ro4/4 pain in the arse Hubby plays that ro 4/4 very well. Husband is no 4/6 and tries to see if I'm meeting any guys in the chat.I always tell him "od4/6 are I am not".Word games are not hubby's st5/14. Husband would rather he4/6 the farm on Farmville & grow things like le 5/12s & other fruits and vegetables. Fortunately hubby and I don't play games that cost mo 5/16. Now I am going go wa 4/12 to the refrigerator to look for a snack & then I am going to go lay w/my dog as he no4/5 off to sleep
Just tried to find out what that strange word means - it came back "no dictionary result"! Oh bother - now I wont be able to work it into my everyday conversation!
Thanks Min, very helpful :)
yw
And as for driving home, I could have tried, but it's sooo hard without a car ;)
LOL Nancy Boy!
brb though, must remove eye makeup or wake up as a panda-face...
EPAN, if you are lurking, want to let you know I have Jaclynn's flip-flops.She left them here.If you want me to mail them, let me know, otherwise, Mike will bring them to Long Island next time he is out there. He will be there in the next few weeks to see your brother.
Thanks for the story Min. Got a few from it!
You are welcome elliott13. Not sure if it was needed for today with such a small grid.I am also here to clue

rofl. YOU brat!
I had a good week, but it was hot. The class went on a walking field trip on Thursday. It was not as hot as I thought it was going to be. The students were good
already started. top corner s is already annoying me, so i skipped it.
I am glad the field trip wasn't as bad as you had feared. I like warm, but only when I don't have to be in direct sun.

just first two letters would help
Congratulations on finishing early stidmama! Hooray!
