Off to my book...
Clues are up
oh digby we should talk
Hi Jmc :)
ty lickety
ty lickety
it accepts sh5/16 but not sh4/8?
moooo
a naughty word is in the grid and it counts
that is usual especially if it refers to women
its also a smelly word :P
cos - you will find enable has every naughty word except satan!
even the f word?
I think so - not sure if it has shown up
No, don't think enable does acept the fe word, though it accept cu4 word.
it sure accepts the sh word
fu word.
hello
hi mlf
hi jmc
o gosh i was just explaining to someone how overrated I thought little women was!
overrated?
having trouble with the nbt tonight
i reread it as an adult and found the characters to be cardboard cutouts
3 more to nbt and no luck
i know that is heresy
stats for u?
i read it three times
Little Women was a book of its time,. jmc and |Jo was evey thinking woman's heroine.
AE 4/4 babblet
that's why adults don't read it.
looking for that, too, cos
i first fell away from the little women is great when i read jo's boys
I felt same (cardboard cutouts) about Shakespare's 'Romeo & Juliet'.
you have a point hoot
jac she was exactly what she wanted to be oand not what everyone wanted her to be
need the 2nd column e and u
how about the first O 2nd column?
og 4
jmc jo's boys is great

stats for 4th column S
un 6/24
hoot why dont adults read it i dont see your comment sorry?
no in jo's boys (the third in the series) one of the rougher boys come back in bad shape Jo nurses him to health
jmc thats because she is the main character she is branching out and ready for change kind of reminds me of Jane A
NBT...stoopid word that un 6...remembered it from before
You have to undederstad the 'mores' of the day, to get the book.
nbt
ditto diz
then she finds out that part of why he was ill was he was in a fight protecting a woman who was being raped and he killed the rapist and Jo did not forgive him for killing someone
true jmc
louisa May alcott was SOOO not the mores of the day
she and her german husband lived on a commune for awhile
i think that was her point jmc lol
J was too rigid about that, but she was very young, and the young find it harder to forgive than older people do.
well mlf I thought that was BS even when I was in jr HS
Jac i think now though that can go both ways
nbt -- agreed - it is silly
th 6/33
And Lousia May was Jo and all of the others. She was working out stuff when she wrote the book.
stats for first S 4th column please?
sh 5

jmc - lma was like all writers of her time.

Hello Sprite
hey lyn :) xxx
second time this week the cold word comes up... do you think it is a prediction?
Hope not. Have they predicted another cold Winter for you all?
they say it will be much like last year. That would be pretty cold indeed. But I like it best when it is freezing - lots of light and sun, so much better for the mood.
a smoothie today
not concentrating very well here...you have finished?
not yet, but almost
morning
hi Katie
some words from physics, an italian/musical word, a japanese word... love the mixture today.
morning Katie
Lovely icon theme, Sprite. When I was a little girl, during WWII, in UK, we had paperdolls named Betty & Peggy, which represented the Princesses.
Good evening Christine. Good to see you are playing again. Wish I was cleverer.
hi Christine, thank you. I used to play with paper dolls as well and was always thinking of ways to make the foldable tabs hold better
hi jhb
Hi, jhb - and you are?
fireflies. Some less usual words, but mostly an easy grid
Congrats Sprite!
congrats sprite
Christine - I am your sister in New Zealand.
I know, you silly sausage, as Joyce Grenfell would say.
I meant, how are you?
*giggles*
So Christine - are you cleverer than your middle sioze sister?
ok, am off, have fun all. *hugs*
Byebye, Sprite.
bye Sprite - have a good day
Christine - fingers on wrong keys - meant middle size sister
Don't talk about size, I've lost another 4pounds, and will soon be smaller that little sister or you.
Ho ho Christine.
hello again, back for a few more before heading off to bed
hi Flosey
hi lyn and jhb and Christine, are you girls sisters?
we are.
Hi flosey. I am quite new to this game and as you can imagine nowhere near as good as the rest of you.
Not Lynxxx,m unless she wants to be our sister - we have just one space left.
how nice to meet up here. do you live near each other?
Hi people - how come you guys are all up at 2.51 am. It's 8.51pm here where I live in NZ
No, she's in NZ, and I'm in So.Cal.
flosey - cant stop talking now. No we live several continents apart and our other sister lives in the UK.
so even greater to be able to chat in here
6.52 pm here, we have just started daylight saving
wow, you really got separated!
it's almost 1: am here
I
hey great to meet new friends. Thanks.
I'm in BC, have a bro and sis in Ontario
Another sister in UK - when we leave home, we really leave home !!
Love Vancouver - used to live in Montreal. Too cold for real people.
I'll say, my family thought I was going a long way when I moved to BC
BBL
We lived in Vancouver 1 year, 1 year in Victoria, 3 years in Kimberley, BC, back to Ontario for 30, then here for last 15
Well travelled eh?
morning all, how many words today please
hello sandra
146 words today
146
thanks
Bye Christine and flosey. Going to make dinner now. Be back later.
yw
bye for now jhb
Christine - what does yw mean?
See you soon, luv. Don't forget I need Larry's address.
you're welcome.
where did you sisters originate?
Christine - oh yes. He doesn't read his emails very often so I'll give you his home address. Will send an email right now so be sure to look at yours. Love.
We're from London (UK) - I've been in US almost 50 years, and JB has been in NZ alsmost that long, after living in Canada for a while. Too far apart.
Hi flosey - talkative New Zealander again. Cant stop us ionce we get started. We originated in London, Christine moved to SF and I moved to Scotland with my dashing Scotsman, then Auckland NZ, Montreal Quebec and back to Auckland and then various other places around this lovely country. Too much information?
wow, you are really a worldly traveller
I was in SF only a year - missed So.Cal, and came back before the second winter. Too like London weather.
I have a friend in Vancouver who is from NZ
Really going now - bye to all my new friends.
Bye.
Oh flosey - caught your last post - where is she from?
he is from Aukland
he is quite an artist
Soory - made an assumption as to gender. I lived on the beach at Takapuna in Auckland and he will know where that is. When you say he is quite an artist is that how he occupies himself or does he have amundane job and art is what makes his heart sing?
he has a studio in North Van where he teaches and paints
I believe that is it, jhb, I don't know of anything else he might do
Fantastic. Bye really this time.
bfn
enjoyed chat
falling asleep, must get to bed, lots of errands to run in the morning
goodnight all
sleep well, flosey.
Hello all -- I'm on my way to bed after a day with a very old friend visiting this island from Ontario, and the most exquisite gourmet dinner I've ever had in my entire life. More about it tomorrow afternoon, when this friend her friends have left.
*and her friends. Too sleepy to make sense now...and *poof*

Back again, and I see I killed the chog.

That looks fun but I shouldn't be allowed near those I hate being scared
TRIFFFFIES
heeerrriiinnnn!!!! I was laughing at your kitties antics a minute ago
hi trifs...
hi carlee.
I so need to apply for a job there Carlee I have been known to make little kids cry normally and I have teh best blood curdling scream
how do you watch zombie movies, if you hate being scared ??
u like horror flicks but u dont like being scared??? well..i hate horror and I hate being scared..i'll ride the roller coasters
has anyone seen ardilla lately? I was wondering if she has arrived in spain yet?
No I like Zombie flicks they are generally really stupid and predictable
heres something fun: secondo arrived home last night around seven and breezily announced that tonight is my night to host the girls field hockey team pasta party...wheeeee
I just posted a video on FB with me in it. That is a demonstration of how loud I can scream
well..up side... throw in extra sauce and extra pasta..good to go
i have a kid still sleeping..not playing a scream vid
:)
amen carlee. I freaked for about a second, and now I am babbling happily away. it's just a team thing, and I often find the best parties are the last minute kind
Could've been worse, could've been last night was your night for hosting.
it is also a bit adult
Carlee I still would love to have a job in the scream palice
thats right trifs....dont sweat the small stuff..pasta and sauce...is a bitty little thing...i always have 2 extra kids or more for dinner anymore...
hahaha...i am just oging to ride roller coasters in the dark..they turn out all the lights so u cant see anything
Don't sweat the small stuff and don't pet the sweaty stuff
"Don't sweat the petty stuff"
trifs....u had almost 24 hours notice
that nothing....i'd be worried if was 1 hour
pity it wasn't a grape jelly party...have plenty of THAT. Actually, I canned up some tomato sauce months ago, so have plenty on hand.
so mostly I just need to fluff and dust, wipe the lipstick off the milk...the usual
No Esprite it is more don't pet the sweaty stuff
yes, don't sweat the petty stuff and don't pet the sweaty stuff
THat too. I was snuggling a kitty. I think they know something is up
I am thinking I should go buy plates, though. I am not sure I have enough real ones, so it might have to be paper -- dread!
sneezing fit....and it turns out am out of kleenex
remind me not to shake hands with carlee today....lol
Trifs can you get some nice plastic ones?
good paper makes for quick clean up
maybe herin...at least those I could recycle....
O I have an idea
Thrift shop
maybe herin, but I think i will go with the plastic ones. it's an initial outlay, but I could recycle them, so that's good. If I want to go real plates I could ask the church if I could borrow some....they are great about that kind of thing
http://tinyurl.com/292djco Here
go to dollar store....get some mallamine ones...1.00 a plate..then u have them
i grabbed a bunch for camping....
There is a 12 piece polki dot set there for $!2
You guys are so lucky to have All Hallows Properly

It's a silly one - un + what's on your head
omg....looked for the un6....funny
morning Annie
Hi hoot and thanks...yes, it is silly but a usual enable word
I never cease to be amazed at enable - but together by someone who didn't know grammer and made it to suit himself!
PUT together
hoot, Yes, Youre right! I should know better. Try all the ungrammermatikal werds.
yes! It's become second nature for me. No matter how stupid or silly I think it is - enable will like it
brb
leaving 10 words for later...bye dear babblers and thanks, hoot
yw - have a good day
Is anyone here? Just need is6/24 to finish. Please
*entering the gates of Babble* I am just starting, hootowl. I will help.
hi Scrabs - how you been?
is + vowel + Snickers is a candy ***
I saw a barred owl in the woods a few wks ago. I watched it for 10 minutes--SO totally cool!
oh good grief! Another babblet. I am getting worse & worse!
rhos
i was watching a turkey vulture do it thing yesterdy, cool also..but gross ;)
I never see owls in the woods. I think they are afraid I'll try to take them home.
Free clue, folks. It's Babble special and you never know when it will be offered.
Yuck, Crossy!
ty, I needed that one
you always did clue the best scwabby
*doing a curtsy*
hu crossy - I do have hawks and falcons around here. Very ratty town
that was HI vrossy
we do not get many hawks, but i have seen a few falcons
well now I'm finished I can clue you'all
COngrats, hootowl!
i read and speak typonese fluently

We get more falcons than hawks but they do show up.
We've noticed, Cwossy!
left column e?
don't we all
rhats the looong time one
eo4 = long, long time
my typing is going down the tubes.....
omg.... I should just go back to bed now
Blame the keyboard
ok
hangs head in shame and slinks away
Blame a low serum caffeine level, K.
oh don't be silly kje - we all do it
wish I could, but I have had 2 cups
I think it may be early onset dementia
then the coffee will fight it off
Probably, kje.
Every time I think my brain is going I do one of these grids and wobder how I can remember so many weird words!
makes me feel better
LOL hoot
they are good exercise for the brain
kje, you just gave up too soon. You would have seen that word within seconds.
mine is variable... sometimes the grid makes you feel smart, other times like an imbecile
I agree, kje
true - but practice makes it better
i never let typing get in the way of a good word game;))
and think about yesterdays and todays where I asked for clues for last words and they both yutned out to be fishy!
Do you ever finish a grid, Crossy?
i actually finish about 6 out of ten grids
one big advantage of being "retired"; I can be on whenever I have time and fresh eyes are a real help.
More than me, Crossy. I aim for passing halfway, unless it is a smaller grid or I have time to finish.
"anything over ,lets say 250,i usually never finish
It helps that BF doesn't mind when I hog "his" cmp. Only time I don't finish is when we are on vacation or weather keeps us off=line.
40 left and still oe blank tile
Or once when I actually forgot to finish.
kje, corner A is a variant of the clue you requested earlier.
which one kje?
ope, that oe is gray.... it is the u
un + what's on your head
oe = one?
silly word
to go bald? weird
TY. I tried unhat.
sorry, my n is stickig - fill in n's as seems appropriate
I think maybe scalping...
scalping... that is a horrid image, to un6
clue for tr 6/24
Geez, I work on an Indian Reservation every Monday.
def only uses it for preparing animal hides. I'd use de instead
tr6 - to sort by severity, like in an ER
i thought it was like defeathering, like before you cook?
tr is what they do at a hospital when emergency comes in
TY, K!
Hi jbp
yw
howdy
would love a clue for the corner i...
oh, jbp.... too wholesome... the scalping one seems more interesting ; )
hi
sick. y'all are sick pups. ;-)
Scrabs did the indians ever get the casino they wanted?

There are 3 around here run by the Senecas--Niagara Falls, Buffalo + Salamanca.

Yahoo Matches!
triage is a joke here, cutbcks are so bad.what they do is they have 25 gurneys for er and triage,20 of them are full with patients waiting for a room and 5 circulate non stop for the walking wounded
thanks Hoot!
Another free clue!
i'll have to check out mr. padillo's work.
yaa for free clues!!
Aah - I know they were talking about it when I left. Did the tribe on Long Island make it too.
yippee, Match!
I like his abstracts, jbp
yw
I don't know, hootowl. There is one in Verona, NY, near Rome.
well, with nbt, i'm off to work. hope to catch up with y'all later...
and congrats
hagd
Bye jbp
ok - I check Newsday once in a while but they don't mention it either.
At 56/90 I must hit the shower and get on with my day off. Bye!
I see I'm the token br4 here today.
TY for the clue and hello NB!
not quite old bean,i was born there dont you know;)
that's cause you are late - morning NB
looks like hi and bye, Scrabbler :)
well I was born pretty far from here, but sadly 'korean' isn't in the grid ;) morning, Hoot - afternoon here :P
croosy - you traded rain for snow?
bye Scrabs
i did,but at that time,we traded poverty for work
THAT works!
my family came here to escape the threat of terrorism. d'oh.
we,good to get away from that nb
That didn't - sorry NB. But remember - it's not personal and it's all over
just stay away from those football games ahd you will be fine;))
out of the frying pan into the fire! as if the north would try anything. even their OWN allies don't support them :P
posturing
makes them feel important
right...such a scary, volatile country. my mum's from the north - got smuggled out when she was young. never talks about it!
I've seen that here in people who were in WW2 . It is not something they want to reminise on
you are in a far far better place
The very few who did talk about it were usually blowharts
yeah, quite. Anyway...now that I've made the conversation sufficiently serious and akward...I'm off for a geriatric little afternoon nap. Later, all ;)
no prob - have a good nap NB - maybe later
not awkward
kinda nice to have a serious conversation
the only time my granpa ever talked about ww2 was in his last year before the cancer got him
Had 2 uncles there and nothing ever said. Vietnam - no conversations either
right near the end he said,it was scary bloody and dirty and he killed a lot of misguided people and lost almost all his buddies..that was it.i had to research the rest if i wanted to know
nothing at all. I did find out one was a tail-gunner. The other just seemed to take out his anger at taking orders on his family. Not a pleasant person
many brought home ghosts that were hard to live with
My father spent the war in the Brooklyn navy yard doing the electrical work on the ships.
ww2 that is - married men - especially w/children were exempt from draft then.
my granpa was injured in a unspecified action overseas, was sent home and became a firewatcher.when london was being bombed he would sit and spot the impacts and direct fire/rescue efforts
my da was born when he came home for new assignment
I heard about the fire watchers. Dangerous job but I bet it saved a lot of people and buildings!
very dngerous,he had a partner,a close friend.they were on the roof of their watch building when they fancied a pint..there was a bar under blackout but still open next door,my granpa left his buddy at the post and nipped next dor a 2 pints..when he got back, the entire observation building was gone..along with his buddy
omg
that can make you paranoid for sure!
i only found that out much later from his buddies relatives
They do not talk themselves. Might be better if they did. Holding all those horrors inside cannot be healthy
when the war ended he became a fireman till the early 70,s then he got lung cancer
they do talk with war buddies at leigons but nowhere else
hoot, now way -- Brooklyn Navy Yard! I was born there in '46
there was a man who lived to serve. You have a right to be proud of him.
At the yard???
Well, at the hospital at the Yard. Dad was stationed there in '46
i was born in Brooklyn in 41, sister in 43 and other sister in 45
not in the yard. Never knew there was a hospital there...but I was young
Where did you live? I lived on Pacific St. in Brownsville til I was 4 and 1/2
at that time Pilling St. Off of Broadway - miles before Highland park
I don't have any idea of where that is
was not aware of neighborhoods then
I'm sure you could find it in Goole maps. But right now I can't find Goole maps!
We moved to Rockaway after that. To a middle income city housing project. Mostly everyone there had a dad who served in the war
I seem to remember it being kinda central Brooklyb
Okay, it's in Bushwick. Definitely not my part of Brooklyn
Nuts - I can't even remember the street we moved to next. Then to Williamsberg. Vewry jewish. If I had 1 day a week with a full class it was a miricle. I never knew they had so many religious holidays!
yeah Bushwick. but more east end than west
then we moved to Long Island. Family owned a summer home there and we took it over.
Yes hoot, we had lots of days off from school and I lived in Rockaway.
The one thing I will oaways remember about that street I don't remember was that if you went around the corner and drove straight, you arrived at Ebbets Field.
It was near an armory too.
We huh? I hope I'm not offending you. But I did like school and I did like learning and it was disappointing to sit and draw or read alot
Ebbets Field, my father practically lived there
I was the only one ther - and the teacher
My father would not take me to a ballgame! I saw Ebbets Field when he took me to I think a Hopalong Cassidy rodeo. Hockey games were ok but I guess as a dyed-in-the wool Yankee fan he couldn't abide ging into the enemies camp!
I remember the gentile students who had to hang out at school, while we got days off. Unfair
I think I became a Dodger fan just to spite him
Family definitely not Yankee fans. They were crushed when the Dodgers moved
Even though I don't watch baseball, I'm a Mets fan just because
I tried following them in Cal but the resorses we have now were not there. I finally gave up when the Mets started.
When I am among other Brooklynites, my accent returns. I've been in CT now for 38 years.
I apparently never had one. I was always getting surprised looks when I told them where I was from. There is only one small area where the dutch accent prevails.
Is the Dutch accent and the Brooklyn accent one in the same?
I think so. I'm not sure accent is the right word either
What I consider a Brooklyn accent is largely spoken on the Island, Queens and parts of Jersey
Most people think a Brokklyn accent is dese, dem, dose. Not common and def not all over the county. Mostlu around Greenpoint area
Never was aware of it and most of those areas are expats from Brooklyn
Hubby, who speaks very standard American always laughs at some of my pronounciations. I pronounce the animal donkey as if it rhymes with monkey. And chawkle and cawfee
I have once been identified as a New Yorker by accent. I don't drawl I guess.
* chawklet
I'm sure if we spoke, we'd have very similar pronounciations
That isn't standard american? And since when IS there a standard american???
think so!
By standard I would think of maybe midwest. I guess standard isn't the realy word for it.
the closest thing to standard american is probably cartoons. Movies are useless
gu5?
gu 5, when you don't know you gu***
and since I've been w/BF we have done alot of traveling and regional standards are firmly in place as long as you don't stay in high class hotels and such. They are always soooooo right
sheesh - ty
California, where I spend a lot of time [Bay Area] doesn't seem to have a strong accent
so 6 anyone?
I feel like I'm doing what I always dislike - hogging the chat w/non-grid conversation. But it's been fun
they talk with clenched teeth in Marin Bichon..
It is strange to read your messages. Altho we have loads of regional accents over here we dont usually think of America as having regional accents for some reason. And why not? You are a much bigger country than we are. Except Deep South - like Scarlet O'Hara!!
what? haven't heard that.
french coin _ the greek rich guy!
thank you
ty
glad you figured it out - getting brain freeze
i am stuck on the tr 6/27 too
Deeha, we definitely have regional accents. Maybe not as distinct as the South. If you listed to someone from Minnesota, you can hear a Scandinavian influence [and some Canadian]
One thing I've found here - the more they want to diss you - the thicker the drawl!
uo
uno
and that is my last as well, ru
It took me 2 months of watching Holmes on homes to realise they had an accent!
And people from the south always want to call me Ma'am. Here, I'm called miss
tr6 - first four letter's of comedy's opposite, add you and me.
letters - redundant apostrophe slipped in there.
tr6/27 - is part of the ear
thank you haz
thanks kje.
done now.
The thickest accent in the world is Gaswegian - not even other Scots can always hear what they are saying!!
me too
but I beat you ; )
Photo finish fireworks?
or even GLaswegian!!
congrats to both of you!
you did..
I find the Liverpool accent much more difficult than Glaswegian.
I allowed myself to be beat..lol
I'm listening to Alexander McCall Smith's 44 Scotland St series. One of the the characters is Glaswegian. I know what you mean
nu huh
Good morning! Had to chime in here....Boston accent is very distinctive...
I think the liverpool accent is impossible
to understand
I have trouble sometimes watching Masterpiece theater. I think they try to curb the accent but it do slip through!
love the Boston accent
Even CT has an accent. Son doesn't have it, daughter does
get ya fenway fraaanks heah
I love Masterpiec Theater. Watching the Wallender series now [Season 2]
oh my yes! My sisters friend moved to boston. The most fasinating part is when she visits we all start talking like her!
If you really listen you will find that there are a number of US Southern accents....Charleston, SC is different from Georgia or Alabama
I seem to be stuck on 49 - think I will go and do a little cooking to ease my brain! Got a friend coming to dinner but she is is a real friend and I dont have to go overboard for her!!
b
I need a break - bbl
Didnt like those A M Smith books but loved 1st Ladies Detective Agency. Did you get the TV versions? Brilliant - you could even small Africa!! And the leading lady was superb-didnt even know she was American talking about accents
We only got the TV of the Dective Agency ones, but only on Premioum Cable, which we don't have. Hope to Net Flix them
hi everyone
Hello, Katie.
Hi Haz, how are you I haven't see you for ages
oh damn off to the pb!
I'm still standing, that's got to be a plus.
ar 6?
ar6 - first letters of Jaquie O's husband, then sandwich a plural letter between two vowels the same.
ty Haz
You're welcome.
fireworks
Well done!
ty, see it was worth being off sick today
Not too sick, I hope?
no think I picked up food poisoning on |Friday, much better now
Nasty! Glad you're feeling better.
I have 13 left. But I have to go to work.
good for the weight loss though!
Bye, kaplan.
How's the weight loss going?
not too bad. I lost a stone and a half then put on a bit on holiday but lost it again!
Have you got an ultimate target you're aiming for?
4 stone more!
Eeeek!
And a timeframe for achieving it?
2 years
A marathon rather than a sprint. (Sorry for mentioning marathon, the forerunner of Snickers)
and I'm of the age to remember that lol! I thought it was more sensible to set a gradual target but giving up smoking at the same time has rather derailed me on the steady loss but at least I haven't put any on
Good for you on giving up the cigarettes as well. Were you a heavy smoker before?
about 10 a day, it's been quite hard to get nicotine replacement low enough so probably not that much
Nevertheless, it's an achievement, so well done. I suppose you'll be going teetotal next.
We'll be talking about you in hushed tones 'Saint Katy of Slim thighs and sweet breath'.
Afternoon Haz and Katie
now that would be a step too far lol
Hi FM :-)
Hello FM!
hello everyone!
Hi peri!
Hello, peri!
Hi Katie, Haz, FM, peri, et al (-:
Aloy!!!! hello. Interesting grid today.
And Aloy, hello to you!
Hi everyone.
KEpt getting the 'red bars of doom'
Hello, gramma.
hi to gramma too ... begone, red bars!
but at least it has finally stopped raining, until later that is. Decided to give myself some babble time this afternoon to make up for the grotty weather :) Hi gramma
whew! all computer gremlins flushed out!
is your garden going to sleep now, FM? anything still growing?
hiya crossy
howdy aloy
((FM))
Still quite a few flowers Aloy but give it a couple more weeks and I think it will be a different story. ((crossy)
we had our first frost last night;((
we still have that joy to come crossy.
did my annual "dig up the M. impatiens" the other day, so am ready for Jack Frost
good for you Aloy.
have been propogating them for over 30 years, tempted to stop but nooo
lol,
Do you take your impatiens indoors in the winter Aloy? The one time I tried that they brought in a huge infestation of bugs, and I've never had the courage to try it again.
helens, for some reason, thankfully, this species, called "Sultana", is resistant to bug infestations.. have not had that problem
they are not annuals - they are "tender perennials"
I shall make a not of that one, and try to get it next summer. I used to get summer plants, and then houseplants as well, and everybody else in the family got fed up with it!
Believe me, tender perennials do not do well outdoors all year in Calgary!
have to cut them back as they get "leggy" indoors over the winter, but in the spring they are easy to cut and root - so I have lots of "new" plants to put back outdoors.
That legginess is what keeps me from just having them as houseplants - and of course they are a lovely, easy piece of outdoor decor - but I suppose I could just cut back and root in new pots!
yes, you really do need to give them a good "haircut" (-: I save a number of the cuttings to use as starters, putting them in water till they root
I will now probably become almost unconscious of teh chat while I stare at the grid - anybody wants me, just shout - I'll probably notice a batch of CAPS!
happy hunting!
Thx
agons
SORRY!
ty helen, you give the bestest clues;))
Well, easy ones anyway.
well, am off to the bank and other chores today.. now that fireworks are going off (-: would anyone like a clue before I poof?
crossy gave one of those 'free' clue earlier today too. Congrats Aloy!!!
what? moi?
ty FM.. enjoyed this grid; are you all finished too?
yup :) I wouldn't mind but I had already go the tr6/24 word. Yes Aloy , finished a little while ago.
Enjoy your day Aloy.
congrats to you, FM ! must git a goin, lol, such grammar.. (close your eyes, Haz).. poof
Oh listen, I had a redundant apostrophe in my chat this afternoon, I can't judge anyone else.
Horrors! LOL..
good grief - what ever next Haz? You must have been very distracted dear.
The horror - a redundant apostrophe!
I know. I couldn't believe it.
tsk tsk
The shame of it. Nice to see you, TO!
Hey TO! nice to see you.
see my icon
see my icon
Funny icon TO - what I can read of it.
i meant to only copy the no smking pets sign but i goofed
lol and thats ome of the bits I can't read.
Great icon - you inspired me to change mine!
ladies iw ill be sending you the details of the celebration of national punctuation day. including the recipe for semicolon meatloaf ;)
I thought that was last week, TO. I was much taken by the Punctuation Station.
Funny one helens. Shall look forward to that TO :)
lol@redundant apostrophe,last week i had a millitant ampersand;)
Of course, if I had my way, every day would be a National Punctuation Day.
Punctuation run amok!
was it militant because the apostrophe was made redundant and didn't get a pay out?
"Smoking pets and bicycles strictly prohibited"
"Smoking pets and bicycles strictly prohibited"
the comma did it with the exclamation mark in the library
Smoking bicycles are even more frightening than smoking pets.
can smoking bikes use nicotine patches
I had to laugh at some lonely hearts ads featured in the paper. For example 'Rippling hunk of a guy, washboard stomach, blond, blue-eyed, not-quite 50, WLTM woman with open mind and some experience of taking hallucinogens'
Only if they have leather upholstery on the seat
lol Haz
Woman 35, Happily married until husband sponsored an African village goat in her name as a birthday gift. WLTM man of 40 for whom the phrase 'I'd really like a pair of diamond earrings' isn't meant ironically.'
hello all
You're making these up!
psycic meeting! everyone is welcome, friday at 3:30 pm..you know where it is:)
Young, charming, thoughful, attractive, sport, zesty, intelligent. None of these are me, but if you'd like to spend an afernoon or more considering alternative adjectives to be applied to a cantankerous 53 year old, write now to...
Hey carlee.
hey fm..how goes?
Now that one sounds interesting - doesn't refer to preferred gender, may I apply?
They say the best way to a man's heart is through his stomach. Disqualified surgeon (female 32) a touch on the literal side maybe, seeks man for nights of complete misunderstanding.
It has been and gone well as it is now 10 to 6 in the evening :)
What newspapers do you read HAz?
They're taken from a book which gathered up some of the more unusual ads.
12:50 pm here... i thought i had to work this afternoon..apparently not....
Then you can babble away the afternoon for a while.
yeap..came by to chitchat...

well..i know some rather boring accountants..i think they collect moths...

bye!
well..hi/ bye TO
If you marry two people you are a pigamist, but morons are allowed to do this.

Bye, TO - I'll be getting the ingredients for that semi-colon meat loaf.

though i never understood the surgeon general,it is fine, but even i think 8 glasses of gravy a day is a bit much...
Lovely selection of funnies there.
I need something to make me laugh!
Depends on the gravy. The Dictionary won't take ragu!
Well I hope you are as we are.
well..i had a funny conversation with my kids and their friends and a friends mom about condoms haz....
b
Just zoomed round shutting windows as it has gone rather chilly now the sunis going down.
we were standing around ( 2 18 year old boys...2 14 year old girls ) discussing what in sex ed they cover in health in grade 9
and my son announced that in grade 9 health... he had to demonstate to his class how to put a condom on by using a cucumber...
hi there, what have I walked into? ( or into what have I walked?)
my girlfriend pipes up.." well if was me..i would go in there with the longest fattest squash i could find and say 'there..1 size does NOT fit all' "
lol, what age is grade 9?
15?
Hello Dorens.
14 years old...
we all had a good chuckle over that one...
how are you fM?
I bet! sex education classes didn't exist in my day.
Am well thanks Dorens, you too I hope?
given the mixed company and the age differences too...i was rather shocked the kids talked so openly especially in front of 2 parents ) ...and just in general the age difference
yes thanks. busy as could be here at school. we don't teach sex ed adequately. and a thirteen year old girl just have birth last week
yeap..there were 4 or 5 at my kids' highschool last year and a couple in the grade schools here in our city too
Good dorens, hope you are enjoying the job. oh dear 13 is so young but is not that uncommon unfortunately.
what city you in dorens?
really tragic actually, in this case. certain persons are in jail as a result. fall out will be major. not really a city carlee.. tiny town in north jersey
they have to teach early,i do not know what they put in the milk now,but i was shocked when i went to my sons 8th grade graduation! if i were the dad of those girls,i would not let them out the door!
yeesh....in the "jersey shore" area ( I have no idea where jersey shore is)
no, not at all. and that show is just such a fake! nearly all the characters are from NY, not NJ!!!
iknow one kid in my daughte's grade 8 class....all her fb pics had her sitting with bags of pot and making out sith some older teenager...she was so having sex at age of 13..and smoking up
(not that we don't have unsavory characters of our own here, but that is really not real)
( i dont watch it dorens....just know lots who do)
hello everybody. This is my first chance to be online all day!
hello ruby
Hi busy ruby :)
((ruby))
hi ruby
hi ruby
Hello Ruby - we have gone from punctuation to sex ed in a great swoop - it's add-a-topi day!
Hello friends
Evening Sally!
<crawling back in bed as i feel like crap >
howdy bob
hi bob
some of crossys home made chicken soup for carlee...
That is such a great photo, Sally!
mmm chicken soup sounds nice. But I can't complain as husband is cooking me fillet steak tonight for a treat.
thanks crossy.... carlee needs it..her sinues are on overdrive today..i have a grandpa runny nose...and sinues themselves are on twitch and tickle....
oh yum on both dishes.
Thanks helen! Like your sign too.
( mind i have some squash inoven with some slices of potato and some sloppy joe meat mixture in the cavity of the squash..cooking )
Steak with garlic and mushrooms and onions. Drool.
haz, your funnies were very funny!
John is gone but this was basically the week from hell
Didn't you enjoy his visit ruby?
I am so tired, I could just curl up with a book and not get up for a looooong time
its only tuesday ruby
my week went from Wednesday to today!
the only really good thing to come out of it was a way of cooking fresh beets and then adding feta cheese, learned from my boy
alrighty then ruby....well..the week is over...so hopefully next week is an improvement
starting this very minute! I feel like I'm back with friends and nobody will yell at me
how do u prepare the beets ruby?
i would never hell at you ruby
he bakes them wrapped in aluminum for 1 1/2 hours, then peels them, adds olive oil and a little bit of wine vinegar, salt and pepper, and when they are tepid and they are cut up, add little pieces of feta
or yell even ;)
yell even
snap fm
it is possible to buy them here all cooked and peeled and I think I could then add the feta and oil
you can hell at me crossy; I know you do it lovingly
oooh....yummm ruby..i will have to remember that
I really love beets but make the worst borscht imaginable
Sounds good ruby and this talk of food is making me hungry so I shall poof to the kitchen for a while. TTFN
If someone yelled at me, I'd yell right back!
i did cauliflower last night and fed to 4 teenagers and they came back for 2nds....
i do beets that way ruby, adding walnuts, and serving on greens. sometimes goat cheese instead of feta. delicious
I make lovely borscht.
later fm
how many today
mmmm borscht....
my sister called and said I should stand up to the typeA bullies -- easy for her to say
bye fm. i'd like some cauliflower right now. go**, fresh vegetables cooked well are just so wonderful
oh...cold u imagine pralines instead of walnuts???? just lightly coated....hmmm...making the coating with maple???
I would love your recipe, sally
I will email it ruby. It's a cheat one :-)
how many words today please? thanks
would probably be ok, but i don't like sweet in salad (i'm weird that way) 146 chug
146 chugga
well i see there is a lot of food talk. i have pork chops to cook tonight and lack inspiration.....any suggestions??
and the beets are pretty sweet by themselves
Are you saying your son yells at you too?
pork chops i always marrinated in beer with BBQ sauce
for pork chops, I sprinkle them with ADOBO seasoning, fry onions in olive oil and butter, and then fry the pork chops. Then serve with rice, refried beans and avocado (if I have one)
easy delicious pork chops... trim fat, salt on both sides. then put a slice of onion, a slice of lemon, a dollop of catsup, a sprinkle of brown sugar. bake covered one hour, then uncover last hour
your recipe sounds better than mine, dorens.
as for the caulifower..i steamed it whole for 20 mins...then brushed with butter...and coated with a panko breadcrumb mixture that had parmasean, garlic, oregano and cayenne ...and baked for 15 mins until golden brown...the kids devoured it
no, uncover last Half hour...
oh yes. craving cauliflower now!
Sally, I seem to be a perpetual doormat for type a men -- my mother never taught me to express anger
don't know about better, but easier.. don't like to fry
my kids NEveR EAT THE STUFF...AND IT WAS ANNOUNCED "MOM...DO THAT ONE AGAIN"
well since i lack many of the other ingredients suggested .. I think Doren's recipe will be diner tonight LOL
Not, not anger. Ice-cold calm and firmness is the best response. Just remember, a bully always needs a victim. You are NOT a victim.
bake some potatoes along side, there's two thirds of a good meal. green beans are nice with it
my husband detested cauliflower untiol I cooked it for him with garlic and olive oil. Actually, I think you could cook a bedroom slipper in garlic and olive oil and it would be delish
lol ruby.
i like to roast cauliflower high heat, olive oil, cumin, mustard seed.. tastes so sweet when roasted
when it's just my husband, sally, I just walk away. With my son, I said that he was being too harsh and nasty (nosobdy was actually yelling; it just felt like it)
gotta run... a bientot
He was a guest in your house for goodness sake!
and baked potatoes....the ultimate lazy side dish! great idea thank you
dorens, you sound like a great cook!
No wonder you are exhausted. Doctor Sally prescribes a large drink, a good book and early night.
French potatoes are too waxy to be baked. They never seem to be cooked, just get harder and more waxy
french potatoes? they are different? would have thought a potato was a potato. hmmmm
do they have an accent ruby? well i suppose i would have the accent to you ;)
The good news is that I've started gathering written testimony from neighbors and they are wonderful. The statements are accompanied by a lot of religious talk, but anybody praying for me is a good thing!
Must just go and shut hens up. Back in a bit.
cut up potatoes iin 1 inch chunks...coat in olive oil and salt and pepper and roast.....so simple and delish...no garlic on that one
shut up hens...sounds interesting
my mother would never let me tell the hens to shut up, i would have to say be quiet
evidently, there are a lot of different kinds of potatoes (who knew) and Idahos are the ones for baking and mashed and potato pancakes. French ones are good for frieds (first you soak them in ice water) and for potato salad
Fireworks!
carlee that sounds yummy
Must go - but will be thinking of you Ruby - get that big drink and a rest.
*~*~*POMPOM TOSS*~*~* for helen
I just ate a pudding and feel a little better (after a big gin!)
yay, helen
except i lightly smash my potatoes for potato salad..i dont like the chunky kind
when the neighbor came with her testimony, I started to cry -- she probably thinks she'll convert me... hahah
is there a clue for the O in the 2nd row? i cannot find any words from it
aknitter -- he OW** me money. but swap the last letters around.

Oh, Ruby - glad I caught you. Think you might have got the wrong end of the stick the other day, here in the chog? Something about 'bad vibes'? :s
no no, NB, I just came in at the end of a long conversation including J.C., whom I didn't even know. It just didn't sound friendly
I'm glad I was wrong then
Er yeah, very wrong! JC is a really good friend of mine, off here...
just call me "big nose ruby"
Just thought, everyone was using smilies and stuff, so it seemed a little strange...
sorry NB!
I love anybody else named nancy!!!!
Just thought - in the past JC has been victimised by a little coven of babble witches...so I didn't want it to be anything to do with that.
I'm much too much of an outside to ever be part of a coven!
Oooh. Two of my favourite Babblers...... Hi Ruby, Hi Nancy :-)
{{{soodle}}}
Hiya Ruby ((()))) Hows John's visit going?
well - they tried their best to victimise him, anyway ;) all it gave him was a roll of the eyes and a headshake...
Hello, Soodle!
Hello NB! Hows it going?
he left this AM, but it was surprisingly hard. I'll send you a letter tomorrow
hello, hello everyone
hello annie!
boy, does this ever feel good!!!!
Hi Annie. Rubes, I look forward to an update.
ruby, who lives in paradise...are you resting?
(((((((NB)))))))
Hi Soodle
Rofl, Rubes. Just have a smushie....
Hi EvaN
good idea
when ((hahah) we have a babble meet in this obscure corner, there'll be smushies all around!
hi soodle. :)
Ruby, I'd go so far as to say we will get smashed on smushies!!
Ruby lives in Obscure Corner.
sounds like the Waltons (if anybody is old enough to remember that show)
Nite John-Boy....
So before I pull out the last strand of ha4 would someone help me with ar 6/18?
that sounds like heaven, soodle
Sorry Annie - I only just got here.
I have no ar's, sorry

Sally is picking on me.
Said to a child? You little ** and **, what have you done now?!
as long as she doesn't yell!!!
I don't yell, ruby!
Neither do I.
certainly not at me.....
I get ice cold and extremely eloquent.
I wish I could yell, sometimes
I took two Womanship sailing courses and their slogan was "Nobody yells"
Ice cold is better, shows that the yelling has no effect.
I feel badly that you had such a hard week, ruby.
Yup, me too annie, especially with a visit from a distant son. {{hugs}} ruby.
thank you annie but I am afraid that I am too much of a whiner in here, it must be irritating
Right, any more clues needed?
but it is in the past.
yes, pls sally, any 7 wd be appreciated!

you choose not to list or you're not able to?

well, if i knew the fish would be turned out so yummy, i'd do it more often! lol
we have a lake way up north here..called brain lake and it is in algonquin park.no motors allowed and you can only keep 2 fish
so, i don't feel like trying everything that i think could possibly follow un-, only to find in the end, perhaps, that it's not a un- anyway... can someone point me in the right direction for the U?
un6/24=snatch me bald
un=stuff on yer head
huh. that seems so much more likely than, say, unhit (as in, it's a strike because the ball was unhit).
*LESS likely
but thank you :)
cross// have you ever heard of the passamaquoddy indians?
i believe they area a branch of the algonquins

AR 6/18?
mm hard one to clue...
a itallian opera song
anything to do the AR before?
jmc - where did you find the mirror?
lol in an office i was clearly out -- it is made to sit on the monitor
did you purchase it somewhere?
why do you need a mirror on your monitor?
because my back is to my door and my staff comes in and stands there like i am working or something and they don't want to disturb me
so i turn around and jump out of my chair i am so startled
put a bell on the door?
my door is open to all of my staff
cross - not getting the clue for AR 6/18 any way to steer me towards it?
if it is closed they know they should only knock if it is truely important or urgent
a laser beeper?
lol the mirror is nice and low tech
ar6/18 - first letter of Jacquie O's husband, then a dyslexic attempt at a distress signal.

ba5/16 - put a vowel in the middle of the place where you soak in bubbles.
Don't take a shower, take a ba** and put yourself (pers. pronoun) in the middle
Grazer? Because I was grazing for clues or because I don't eat meat?
lol,im just playing with ya kaplan,my 16 year old is going sans flesh protein

hi cosd
Hello...
Hello, Jellen.
hi jell and jmc and haz
hi Haz and Jellen
this is a slight easier grid today.. i have 21 left
so 6 is new to me...thanks!
It's an evergreen tree, according to the dictionary - South American.
HI everyone. DH saw the neurologist today and his doc is thrilled at his improvement! No answers on why he was so bad this summer; nor why he's doing so much better now
That's wonderful, Nef!
Hello, Nef. That's good news.
I'm just so thrilled myself I have to tell everyone! :-D
I would be, too!
how's everyone here doing?
I should be packing boxes :-( ...I'm procrastinating...
Are you moving, Jellen?
ONE left.... trying to do it with no help !!
Just the merchandise we bought for the store...
It's all over the house and filling the garage...
ahh. what will you do with it, Jellen?
Hi, everyone :-) !
Go, diane!
thanks Jellen !
WTG, diane! For a newbie, you're putting a heavy burden on yourself quite early
It's going to the store building, where we will have an auction...
(((Jellen)))
this was a nice grid today, and I've learned to make the letter values work for me... and to move around the board more !!
WTG, diane! :-)
thanks, Nef :-)
Did you find it, diane?
not yet lol
9 more for me!
it's a 6 letter word..... need it to add up to 7, so I know there's one letter worth 2 points in there somewhere !!
hi there, anyone have the ga 6/7?
There's only one 6/21 word. It's been clued recently, but don't look back if you don't want to.
Stats for the U, please?
bichon - ga, a honey-making consonant, then a charged particle. Plural for the 7.
un6/24.
:-)) I''ll look back :-)
un 6/24
th 5/20?
ty Haz, never would have gotten that one
Thanks, looking...
You're welcome, bichon.
th5/20 - th plus a word meaning uncooked.
tyvm!
hi everyone
FIREWORKS.... .with the clue from Haz :-))) Now I can maybe help a bit, but also get on to other things ! This is darn addicting !!!!!!!!!!
Hi, Andree
You're welcome, cosdem. Hello Andree!
wtg diane!
Hooray for diane!!!
Well done diane! Some people claim that this game is addictive, I can't see it myself.
thanks cos, Jellen :-)
hahaha....a little facetiousness there !! thanks for the clue Haz
May I have a clue for the un 6/24, please?
You're very welcome. And you obviously enjoy the game - I'll admit to a mild attachment.
un plus what Yul Brunner lacked.
Thank you, Haz!
You're welcome, Jellen.
Hello everyone
is un 6 another word follicularly challenged?
Hello, SeaSpray.
nbt, so I shall take that small accomplishment away with me...
Hi, SeaSpray
Yes, bichon...
Leaving already, Jellen?
I must get a little work done, then prepare for a meeting in a little over an hour...
nice profile, Haz. .... loved the songs with approriate artists. I am a song addict too... won't admit to how many I have on my computer !! I'm going to look up Ballymena :-)
Fair enough - nice to see you, even for a minute or two, Jellen.
Ballymena's claim to fame = Liam Neeson's home town.
I like Liam Neeson :-)
tr 6/27?
I've never actually seen him in the flesh, but lots of his family live here.
tr6/27 - first four of not comedy, then add you and me.
does he come home to visit?
thanks haz
Yes, last time for an aunt's funeral.
and thx for these great clues Haz, i am so out of practice
fireworks
Or at least that was the last time it was in the local paper that he was home. He's maybe here more often than I realise.
Well done, cosdem!
3rd day in a row of not using morewords!
Glad to help, Andree - I'm not usually on at this time.

What is "morewords" ?
hi y'all. how's it going? lots of names I don't recognize :(
a website that lists all words
The town hall is gorgeous - the original was opened in the twenties, there is a new modern addition that is pretty spectacular.
morewords.com i think
could someone clue the co6 please
Morning all
hi autumn

hi lynxxx
www.morewords.com - a very valuable resource for looking up words using the first two letters. It's saved my sanity on a number of occasions. I'm the worldwide representative.
co6 co & salary
Hello lynxxx - and autumn moon.

Hi autumn

It's quite a nice grid, autumn but a few strange words. Enjoy!
morewords, my best friend
thx haz
no... I haven't. I'll coast along for a while and see how addicted I become... HA !!!! We're going to the coast for a couple of weeks so I won't be playing... maybe I'll do it when we get back :-)
Best friend next to Hugo, Andree.
ahh ok. its pretty useful. i can have both the grid and the list on at the same time
by coast, I mean the west coast of Canada... B.C.
so6,21? help, please?
of course
It's a great game, diane, I've been playing for five years now and still enjoy it. If you have withdrawal symptoms, you can make up your own grid...
so + vowel + mr. onassis
am not getting that cos, is that the first tr6?
ty cosdem. fireworks.
yw mixi.. sea did u need tr6?
yes, the first one
I am also going to the west coast next week and will miss babble.
that was the last word for me on the grid too, mix...good clue from cos !
diane - where are you headed? Island?
California.
oh wow i cant clue that off the top of my head lol its an odd word
I am going to the Caribbean in 11 days....woo hoo!
congrats dianedecoder.
tr + vowel + what u put in car but change the vowel
tr6 - first four letters of the opposite of comedy, then add you and me.

Sounds like a great trip, Diane
Fireworks AND the Caribbean. It's just not fair.
Well done!
LOL
The ship is not sold out Haz :)
My daughter's getting married next year. Should I start hinting about the Caribbean now?
we're flying to LA for a couple of days, then going to San Diego.
Yes, Haz.
Absolutely, but make sure you have 2 weeks inbetween to recoup
I'll add to my profile one of these days....all you know is that i'm 70 year old female from Alberta !
I should probably take a look at mine, and see what on it too, Diane
Yes, it's not that we're nosy or anything but it's nice to find out about you.
Must go check the laundry
is 6?
the weather man talks about is6
I don't consider it nosy.... I love meeting new people, finding out where they live, .... the internet is wonderful that way. I have online friends from all over the world....
ty mix
found on a weather map, bichon
e.g. Mix... I have an online friend in Mt. Airy N.C. will probably never meet but it's still nice :-)
That's a couple of hours from here.
There's one babbler who used to have a house a couple of miles from me.
andy Griffith's town :-)
Okay, I'm going to head off. Nice to chat and see you tomorrow. Bye!
bye Haz (pats Spange)
In my opinion, Chapel Hill is still small town, but with a wider world view.
bye, Haz.... nice to meet you
bye Haz.
bye haz
must go trim some ivy.
last 20 minutes of work

should i type by-laws or babble?
Hi jmc. By-laws - get it over and done
BABBLE!
sigh i was counting on some one rooting for babble!
ty mixi
babble/// now you have two!
ty dorens!
i am already up to section 7 -- these are by-laws that are pre-computer that need to be typed in so I can recommend amendments
hmmpff - can see my opinion is not wanted! I'm going then. Bye all xx
hi and bye lyn
lol lynxxx see you later!
lol lynxxx see you later!
hic
hah! there is a teacher in my school whose last name is oguss. what a strange word to find in the grid
what a strange name
so how is the new school year going dorens?
yes, it is. and she teaches autistic children, which is a very different area from most, as well
oh j, it is so hectic and crazy and i don't know what on earth they'd have done if i haddn't been there
and you are working two schools?
and the icing on the cake is a girl who just turned thirteen two weeks ago. I've known her since she was in third grade. I went to speak to her and she looked 6 - 7 months pregnant. I began discussing the weight gain with her in general terms, planning on laying the groundwork for more delicate conversation the next day
yikes!
but the next day her parents said she went to the hospital with stomach pains. well, you can guess the rest. but it is worse than we might think
i can only say that someone is in jail now. and yes, two schools
really?
really.
wow! what a story!
sad
too bad it wasn't found out sooner
mexican family, speak no english, two brothers in the house were raised in mexico and sent for when their father married this girl's mother. they spoke no english when they came. they are doing so much better now. the family will be so devastated. don't know how they will make it
it is one of the worst cases i've dealt with, really. still don't know the whole story, don't know if i ever will.
they will survive and that is the truth
DYFS is involved, but they don't always share info. I just want to know what they will do for her... talk is that mom will have to go to work now and the girl will have to stay home to care for the child. she is going on home instruction. i think this is not a good plan
is there no school there that takes mothers? we have several here with day care as part of the school
it is certainly not a good plan if daddy is out of jail again
she is only in 8th grade, not high school. some of the big cities have alternative middle school classes etc.
i think if daddy ever gets out of jail he will be deported.
we have a hs/middle school joined with day care
we are a small town tho. and i am trying to find out if there is anything in the county at all for her
Well i hope so!
is that dc, j?
yes dorens
that is our problem, we aren't a big city, far from it..
DC is not a big city it just looks like one
true... newark is far bigger. but still, it is a lot bigger than wanaque nj, with two small k -8 schools in the whole town - barely 1000 kids in all
true that
so what is the scoop on geneva? is this within the realm of possibility?
it is in the scope of possibility but not extremely likely
well, still exciting... is it a short term move or open-ended?
another possible job in phillie just opened up and it has even more travel than my current job
well it is a permanent position but my minds eye has 5 years
and do you like the travel part?
i love the travel part
but it rolled back here due to my mother's final illness and then the $$ thing and finally being gone a month to Kenya
nothing I like better than going to a new place and getting a couple of hours off to see what is there
except for speaking before a crowd of people who have not all heard my stories
help with the right hand S please
nm i found the fish
so help with the right hand O please
ow 4/8 rearrange the word for when you are indebted to someone

not if you eat it standing up, jacq
LOL

i think my mum lied about which decade i was born, i've been having senior moments and the doc says i have arthritus in my hands
ooh, sorry to hear that
i'm sure i'm 65 and not 45
back
wb nef
the arthritis is something that hits from overuse, jacq. My dtr. had arthritis at age 16 (no, not rheumatiod, thanks goodness)
and I've had it in my back since I was 18. I don't think the docs ever named the type we have
::does a drive-by of the chog:: evenin babblers! should i watch Glee and No Ordinary Family, or should i take a soak in the tub?
you should stay and chat, EvaN! :-)
HI
hi herin
ahh, if only i could have TV and the laptop in the bathroom... actually, i could probably manage the laptop up there...hehe
Hi this was a run in and say hi. Off on holidays don't know when I will have the internets (more than likely later tommorrow)
wb nef, my family is riddled with it, mum has rheumatoid and osteo my dad had as well and so do all the aunts and uncles and cousins on both sides

I will. I am seeing my Dad for his 70th Birthday as a suprise
what fun, herin! I hope you have a great time!
Dad doesn't ahve a clue
I will do
EvaN, is it safe to use a laptop in a tub?
oh that sounds like good fun
Off again. Back as soon as I am done finishing the bedroom linen. They need an iron.

hi crossy. How old is your son? (I got here the first time right after you left saying he needed some computer time)
he is a monosyabic angst filled teenage of 16 ;/
thanks nef. fireworks for me.
oh, my. My sympathies
only time he does any talking is when begging for computer or money lol
wtg red
YAY, big red!!! WTG!!!
teenagers are such fun
(said with sarcasm and sympathy)
indeed
hello crossy
howdy jacq
as long as they aren't yours, jacq
se5/16 please?
yup nef, been there with one still there with the other and her boyfriend
Never mind. Got it.
sorry, Betty. I don't have it yet
thats what i am waiting for,for him to try and move the pregnant gf in
i think it means aside, or an aside a bit like the ag
Nef, I think it means transition.
ohhhhhhhh don't let him crossy it becomes hellish and it's them against you and they use the baby every day
Betty, your icon is beautiful! Where is that?>
sorry looks a bit like the ag4
Durango, Colorado.
yes,i hear the baby becomes a unstoppable weapon
yes
would probably be better for the wife and i to sign the house over to them and move out ourselves lol
even though i live with angie now they still use the baby and she's two past, but for two eayrs it was awful
and the hardest part is watching them make mistakes and trying not to interfere
that would be me,trying to advise them
yes and then when they fight, oh boy
yup, better to give them the house
and baby is in the middle with you
yup thats what i did
and move 3000 miles away right out to the west coast and get a small place on the ocean
the housing people here told us the baby would be about 5 by the time they got a place and on his apprentice wages they couldn't afford to buy or rent privately
That doesn't sound wise to me.
well if you're going to move do it before the baby comes
i will definatly keep that in mind jacq
i miss seeing Kait every morning, hearing her open my door and say good moning gwanny
i do not wish to become a built in baby sitter
and i miss fighting with her to wash the shampoo out of my hair in the shower
though granbabbies are great
well I need to go do some housekeeping...working on my husband pc he hasn't done a defrag or anything in a very long time....the pc was slower than slow....niters and good luck all...poofy!
they are but being a built in babysitter is hard especially when they know you are staying in anyway
nite MP
mp .use c cleaner as well
what crossy?
I love my grandbaby; but there are times I feel used. If Dtr-in-law is tired, THEN I get to see him
c.cleaner, you'll find it on filehippo
use c cleaner mp,it is my fave housekeeping prog
i love c.cleaner
that's a new one on me...thank you I will try to find it...
c cleaner rocks
brb
kk
wonder if it will help DH's pc?
it might, it also has a reg cleaner that cleans out old entries
it comes with c.cleaner so don't download a seperate one
i did my mums laptop with it tonight and took 3 gb of rubbish out of it
DH has been complaining his pc is slow; is the c cleaner internal or something to download?
go to filehippo
it's top of their download list and it's free
they also have a defraggler thats better than windows
it's called defraggler in cse you thought that was a typo
I'll try it later when I'm done Babbling then (I'm on my mac)
trust me everyone c cleaner in combination with disc clean and defrag and keeping track of your startup items with msconfig is all you need
well ad aware is nice as well
i agree
and avg
and avg
hi, folks
avg is a given
heya welki
and vlc media player instead of the bolatware that is window media
bloatware*
vlc comes with all the popular codecs
i found a very early media player that does everything, inclusing play odd video formats from mobile phones etc, it lets you edit add music meld and split as well as take stills
<-- loves her monkeys
if you have not tried vlc jacq, give it a try
will search for it crossy, have stuck it on my to do list
i have yet to load a video that it cannot play
hello gang
heya jilli
howdy jilli
hi jilli
hi jilli
My out-of-town visitors have left now so I can babble again. What's this grid like?
not too bad jilli
it's a nice one --so far (40 left)
Worth starting, then? I still have to get dinner.
crossy...I did both pc's and wow what a difference my husband is amazed...thank you so much...here's a tin of bacon flavored cookies for ya (sugar free of course!)...LOL
jilli it's not bad at all go for it!
16 left here and still not too bad
This c.cleaner sounds interesting -- is it idiot-proof? I use Norton's scandisk every once in a while.
jilli yes I am that idiot..LOL... and I did two pc's in a lick and a flash!
really? fast? Scandisk takes hours.
it is idiotproof, but a word of caution, it deletes everything, no recycle bin to rescue you
jilli, it took 3gb of rubbish out of my mums laptop
yes...very fast...so easy! and if any question our friends will help..
every single scrap of anything in temp files etc is gone and it makes a real difference
does one have to tell it what to do?
you just choose to clean or analyse, if you analyse you still have to clean
it can take a while first time you run it, but never more than 10 - 15 minutes
it lists everything it got rid of, the type of file and size etc
but after i use it i hvae to log in to babble again
hmmm, I'll try it. What does alayse entail?
it just goes through it and tells you what it can delete and what space you will save
np mp,glad i could help
you get the option then to select if i remember rightly, but i have never lost anything valuable yet
so nothing abstruse?
i never analyse
nothing at all
Hello...
heya jellen
it gives you the option to back up your files
hi jellen :)
mmmm..bacon cookies...
but i have never had to
yup, and when you use the reg fix you get to back up then too
well I'm off to do a bit of filing...yucko...hate that job...husband has the geek squad set up to come tomorrow he is trying to connect a wireless adapter to a router in order to get direct tv to talk to internet router so he can get ON DEMAND and he's been working at it all week with no success....
the reg fix rocks!! cause diving into the proper regedit can be scary
yes, crossy, good to know but although I just bought an external hard drove I haven't used it yet for backup becuse I'm too much of an idiot and people have me all confused about what to back up.
*drive
any reg talk scares me.
this one is safe, you get the option to select
be very,very,very careful in start/run/regedit
i back up everything
use c cleaner reg clean instead
i never use that crossy
I wouldn't know what to select. Can one of you come here and hold my hand please?
c cleaner is the perfect cleaner for the masses that the pc shops will not tell you about
Someone said that if you back up everything you get a whole lot of rubbish too.
do not back up everything, learn to id files
learn
yeah, well, that's what I need help for, crossy.
No handy teenagers around here -- lots of help available at $60/hour, groan.
wish i could be there for you jilli

they get better as the morning goes on but it's not a pleasant waking and no long lies
sciattica(sp)
i didn't tell the doc about it cos when i told him about my hands he gave me arthritus so am keeping shush about this

Hi, Trif
hey there. If you need a shot of sunshine and hope, check out the "it gets better" videos on youtube. They are aimed at LGBT youth, but, oh, they are encouraging to all, neverthelles
nevertheless, even
LGBT?
lesbian, gay, bi, transgendered....its a project responding to the recent string of suicides by gay teens who were being bullied. the stories, some by celebrities, are so inspirational!
Ah, was not familiar with the acronym...
tim gunn's video alone is worth the visit....
it is less of an issue here trif..they can marry, get all govt things that standard couples get..been a non issue for about 5 years here
!!!Fireworks!!!
here too crossy, but it does not mean that gay youth don't get bullied, and badly.
huzzah for jellen!!!!
we no longer bat an eye..well there was that woman who wanted to marry her horse...

ergh, how'd it get in there, and what kind of bug?
A roach, I believe...
those things will outlive us all *shudder*
Although I'm not good at insect identification...
need some fumegating, jell. it's that time of year for creepy crawlies to be entering homes
flat, bettlely, dark brown?
Calling the exterminator tomorrow!
Goes by the name Disgusto Mio?
the bug or the exterminator?
lol
roaches are very rare in this region and i have never seen one
I hate roaches
they don't do well if it freezes
The bug...the exterminator's name is Chico...
roaches don't normally like the dry, cold climes, so we don't get them either
lol
I updated my profile today. Sorry I didn't anwer earlier, lbd; DH just came in from going to one of his men's groups' meetings --first time he went to a mtg. since April!
with climate change you may get a novel experience
thank god then for our winters
yeah, well, we have roaches in Reno
12 left. all As.
good for DH! he needs to get out of the house and you need that down time.
with global warming will be interesting when texas get to 130 f
there are species of roaches that can survive dry
yeah, well Reno is a desert.
that is why they call it climate change now--texas is going to freeze over
they are really bad in the downtown area - where all the casinos are - the basements are full of them
ugh, I hated working at the casino
i shall have to move further north i think
*shudder*
i am glad dh got out
Yes, Nef...that is a cool development!
*gets the heebee jeeebeees...* the worst experience i had with roaches was in DC. but San Diego had a bunch that were just as icky
I'm so thrilled! It was a nice break, even!
I will never eat at a casino downtown again
poo roaches in DC have NOTHING on roaches in texas
good for you and DH, Nef
As he gets more comfortable with the wheelchair, perhaps he'll venture out more and his buddies can help with the mobility.
lbd, he used the walker all day today! :-D
i've not spent much time in Texas to really notice the roaches. but then i wasn't really looking for them either. lol

Hello?
Looks like everybody left agaion
Nef! Hi!
hi Jellen. You're still up and here?
I've been messing with Facebook...it's acting up on me...
Just came back...
I was playing Bejeweled Blitz over there. I wasn't having problems
me too. (I finished quite a while ago; it was really busy then)
I was chatting with a friend, and FB got stalled, and I just called her...
I think it's my computer...not sure...
ahh. Everything okay for you?
Oh, hooray for you!
Overwhelmed by the packing thing...
It sounds like you need help
Yes...a friend is going to come help me tomorrow for a bit..
I may try to recruit some others over the next few days...
that's good. This sounds like it's too much to handle right now
The main problem with recruiting is most of my friends work and have kids...
yeah. I hear you on that
And my place is NOT child-safe!
when is the auction?
It hasn't been scheduled yet...I hope in November...
There's an old saying that you shouldn't do stuff in a rush after losing someone....
That's true...
I guess the world won't end if we wait until the spring...I'll just have to be extra frugal...
back
jmc!
i think that is true for things that are big changes
but I can understand why you're doing this (since you weren't the one whose dream it was
hey jell sweetie
hi jmc
hinnef
It was definitely a joint dream...
er hi nef
yeah
LOL! I understood you the first time
:-D
9
GO, jmc! (If you need help, I finished a while ago)
ty nef i will be sure to hit you up for clues as needed
:-)
here is an interesting factoid about grief jell
Jellen, could you find someone to fulfil;l part of the dream?
when Dr Brother's husband died she worried about money ever though she had millions of dollars
I'm going to try to open a booth at an antique mall...
go for it jell
now that might be a great idea, Jellen
7
I'll just have things that I know a little about...jewelry, books, old bottles, postcards...
any dr brothers wrote about how the since of loss of control gets all wrapped up in the other losses
zΩwagw
what's the auction about?
hi kimm
hi ru
I definitely has that sense...
Hi, kimm
hi kimm and ruru
hi all
HI!!!!!! I haven't been here in a long while!!
The auction is the stuff that Tim and I accumulated to open the antique store, ruru...
well... welcome back kim
i did too -- i learned about dr brothers while i was greiving my hubby and found what she said rang true
wb kimm
Thanks guys!!
oh.. Jellen.. that must be tough to go through all that stuff.. I think taking your time is the right thing to do
wishes I could give Jellen a big hug
there are 7 stages of grief; some get mixed up together; some take a long time to get through
I don't know the 7 stages.. they seem to all hit me at once ..
We talked about the tangled ball of emotions at my group tonight...
friends are still staying in touch with you aren't they jellen?
yeah when people talk about the 7 stages it sounds like there is a progression but they actualy come and go kinda randomly
Yes, they are, ruru...though not so often...
6
they are very random. Jellen, don't cut yourself off from your IRL friends
well people have a hard time knowing what to say as time goes on
they are afraid to talk about Tim and afraid not to
Oh, I won't, Nef...called two of them tonight...
I think people are afraid to say the wrong thing
i'll never forget the 90 yearold client who said "i know just how you feel. I am so sorry about your husbands' death"
The group is probably a healing thing.. that sounds useful jellen
then she called the next day to apologise
Yes, it's a good group...
she said -- i realized i didn't konw how you felt. my husband died at an old age after many years together
How perceptive of her, jmc...
how young was your husband when he passed jm?
she said i was presumtuous
40 ru
(((jmc)))
but the thing is no one knows what you feel and yet what you feel is completely universal
wow.. wow..wow...gosh you guys.. I can't imagine that
and i am here to tell you that it gets better with time
My Grandma had a saying that puzzled me when I was young; but it makes sense now that I've lost some family. "The longer the coffin, the deeper the pain."
I know it will...
I have had significant losses in my life.. but not a mate
the description of having lost a limb is apt -- you adapt but you never don't realize its missing
that's a good image jm.. thanks for that

my best friends daughter just lost her baby ..just before coming to term.. I didn't have the right words.. it is so hard to step outside of yourself and say things that are meaningful and helpful
the thing is that most meaningful thing you can say is i am sorry and then listen to them
the best words are "I'm sorry" and "I'm here if you need to talk or anything"
:-) see nef and i agree
Yep :-)
I have done that.. they are still shut down and hidden and grieving
I agree, too...
then let them grieve for a while ru
yeah.. I am.. but the good guy part of me wants to help them and rescue them.. <<---big time co-dependant

if it "just" happened; they need time. Up here it's a fairly common practice to just bring a hot meal over for the family every once in a while; we just drop it off and don't stay for supper.

always pretending you're such an unemotional guy....
*puts ball next to the hole for JMC to putt it in*
hello again -- over halfway, not that it matters
i advise people to bring the meals a month or so later because the initial period you are numb and get by and the meals really help later
whoo hoo jilli!
