flosey -- just heard Boodie's mother died.
oh dear, sad, but really a blessing?
I suppose so, flosey.
always hard to lose one's mother
Thank goodness her brother is here to help with arrangements etc.
oh good, glad to here he's still with her
she's had so much to bear alone
for sure, she still has her hands full
Hard enough when you're not even close, but she was visiting her mother at least twice a day recently, helping her so much.
puts such a strain on someone already stressed
Sorry, babblers, to be talking about a friend you don't know, but she's a very special person we love and admire.
No problems, Jilli :-)
thanks, zooz

good morning! gloomy November and getting colder each day (and darker, aarghh!)
hello ruby
hi ruby -- we're having horrible weather here too
fireworks!
November is the worst! At least Christmas is cheerier and there's less rain and more snow in Dec.
Shouldn't complain, though, Seattle had all that snow!!!
So did we, ruby -- we're just north of Seattle
YAY flosey!!!
we had a lot of power outages here, ruby
on the dog front, if anybody still wants to hear about it, we received (and not yet, at that), less than half of what the lawyer asked for and they didn't included her fees AND we have to pay the court-appointed doctor 450 euros, in advance, to evaluate Burt's condition.
very depressing....
wow, turned out to be quite expensive ruby
oh dear, ruby!
just another kick in the head!
the dog owner was found guilty, but only had to pay a fine of 450 euros and the dog has not been put down.
flosey, I'm not even halfway, lol -- and guess what, I don't care.
and poor husband is still suffering.....
so sorry ruby
not bldy fair, ruby!
ty flosey and jilli for being there to listen to this endless saga
wish I couls help, ruby!
we all need to vent at some time or other, ruby
it's great to have this chat line here
sure is
I'm surprised about the outcome, however, as the lawyer seemed so optimistic. After the evaluation, we have a court date for JUNE, which I find unbelievable.
ruby! :oD jilli! flosey!
and Jilli, always there with good advice
hi dfm
ruby I didn't get to use the flag and noisemakers yesterday, did I Do:
hello dfm!
<-- fell asleep through flip :o(
who, me??? advice???
yes, you jilli
and words of comfort
bad ruby didn't finish
wel, you're awake now, dfm ;-)
so... to which archive do I have to go back in order to understand this conversaion? :o/
ruby can elucidate
just that we got a bad deal from the court on my husband's dogbite case
it's not like he bit the dog!
ah, I finally remembered the el4/5 babblet
just checked the meaning - odd word
Do: and the dog owner only gets fined 450 EUR?
initials
twas not a mere dog bite though, was an attack!
and can you imagine that the dog is still up there? My husband is afraid to go for a wal
totally unfair, ruby
Do you even get anything out of it? PTSD sucks too Do:
walk*
which he needs for his bad heart
must get to bed, have a lot to do in the morning and a bridge game in the afternoon
Ontario has a stupid dog law at the other extreme
have a lovely sleep, flosey, and a great bridge game!
what's PTSD?
yeah we do...
really jilli, what is that?
Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder
in this case, public safety should surely be an issue
definitely, ruby
night flosey, and good luck. Our Thursday AH game may be cancelled because of the S word.
I think the dog owners are very well-connected in Annecy, old family name, etc. And we are only relative newcomers and not French
well, we're off to Vancouver on Thursday - weather permitting! Hubby coming back Friday night, I'll stay on until Tuesday
Vancouver sounds like a wonderful place -- beautiful plus great food!
the Ontario law is breed-specific banning -- pit bulls or anything similar (and that can cover a lot of breeds) are banned. Should be irresponsible dog owners who are banned, not the poor dogs.
and milder weather than the rest of Canada, I think
usually, ruby!
I think that guard/attach dogs shouldn't be allowed to live in residential areas where there are a lot of children and older people
oh yes Ruby, usually,
am off now, for real, poof
bye flosey :o)
What are guard-attack dogs? Only perfectly normal dogs who have been trained by jerks.
Don't get me started!
and also innately territorial-aggressive dogs which haven't been trained...
beaucerons are bred for guarding sheep and the Nazis and the Vichy government used them for guarding concentration camps
Night flosey -- have a good day and so on, weather [ermitting!
they are very scary, bigger than German shepherds and evidently hard to socialize. And these people adopted one that was 5 yrs old and abandoned.
okay, ruby, and some people wamt that sort of thing and encourage it.
It's the people who are at fault.
anyway, it's sad for my husband, who was doing quite well for his age (85) and is now very much changed
That's terrible, ruby
ruby, give your husband a chaste kiss from an 83-yr-old babblaholic
and don't bite any beaucerons, jilli!!!
and thank you for your endless kindness to me!!
Never would, ruby!
you deserve nothing less, rube ;-)
how are you doing with this grid? I'm not even halfway, duh!
:oO I didn't even ask for a word count yet!
39 words to far, pretty hard one for me
only 111 dfm
another small grid? :o) Ruby! I might be able to use the flag and noisemakers (and pompoms!) for you today! :oD
about 3 people have finished but I'm not even close. Very tired.
no chance, dfm. I was close yesterday, today is much harder
:o( don't give up!
helo
dfm, what do all your letters stand for? Are you really Chinese?
sorry, pb for me. Maybe there's some coffee.....
my name is from a project I did on encryption in a third-grade project... forgot what the original word was... and yeah, I was born in Hong Kong :o)
absolutely, ruby, anything you want is in the PB
so you know about great food!
I was born in Peking of Brit parents, lived in Shanghai until age 12 -- scroll down my profile if you haven't already.
Spent about a month in HK in 1939, where my dad was -- he was interned there during WW2.
My mother and I were on our way to England.
what a very interesting background, jilli! Is the whole story written down anyplace?
Where I was supposed to be left at a boarding school, typical overseas Brit stuff.
Not really, ruby.
it would make a great movie!
Just a summary here in my bio.
Oh, there's a lot more -- my parents' stories, and their parents' too!
I feel like a stick-in-the-mud compared to them.
my husband really regrets not having the story of his family written down and it is a lot less interesting than yours!
well, he can still write it, n'est-ce-pas, ruby?
By comparison neither me nor anyone in my family has a history as interesting XoD
he has too many gaps in his information; his mother was unwilling to shart stuff with him and now she's long gone
and then, sadly, he figures that his children and his grandchildren (whom he doesn't even know) wouldn't be interested....sad sad sad
dfm, I bet your family has much to tell. Have you read The Soong Dynasty?
my background is like bichon's - parallel stories, similar ages, etc
dfm, you sound VERY interesting!!!
no, haven't read it...
very common for New Yorkers
Oh, my grandkids (ages 31 and 25) are still not interested but some day they will be. He should at least write what he knows.
he barely knows their names.....
and only has contact with one of his children and that contact is tenuous, at best
Well, dfm, try and get it. Are your ancestors strictly from Hong Kong?
I don't know bichon's background.
eastern Europeans forebears (like mine), left Europe in the early 20th, settled in the Northeast, educated in the NYC schools, etc.
Not sure about my mother's side, father's side I know my grandmother was not, and my grandfather was at most second-generation...
My mother's brothers, sisters, etc became New Yorkers but were very close to their families. So was I.
So where di they originate, dfm?
Hello Jilli, Ruby and dfm
I know more about my 1st husbvand's family (early midwestern settlers from Ireland, Sweden and England, fought in the Civil War, etc.) than I do about my current husband's
hi lyn :o)
{{lynxx}}
hi lyn.
not sure -- grandmother has roots in hakka region and mother's side from chiuchou, but that's as specific as I know
I'm just such a WASP, althoug not so usre about the Anglo-Saxon part -- mostly Pict and Scot.
Ah -- I thought maybe Hakka...
do you know all the family names, dfm?
Very tough people, I hear.
my only connection to China, besides loving the food, is having chow chows!!! llol
Chow = food, lol!
I know my father's-side grandfather to 4 generations, mother's-side grandmother to 2 and everyone else to 3 (myself being 0)... quite hard to trace further back now.
Better not get into that...
they are supposedly guard dogs, but maybe that's only if you have a palace. Around here they just cuddle
Well, that's pretty far, dfm!
How long have you been in Canada, dfm? And why are you in Ottawa just now instead of at Waterloo and Univesity?
I'm impressed, dfm.
I've been here since five (14 years now...) and I'm on a co-op work term
working at what? (Scuse my nosiness!)
it is nice to have such a young person in with us old ladies!!!
IBM Labs :o)
This is a very bright young person indeed
kudos to dfm!!!
late fip!
the Babble demography seems to be mostly female... o.o also mostly in the upper years...
hi m9 :)
must go now. hi and bye m9!
{{jilli and dfm}}
but you like to hang with females.. so that's ok!LOL
yes, mostly female, I'd say middle aged.
bye ruby!
who else has time, dfm?
hi m9!
middle-aged? that suits! lol
bye ruby -- don't for get a hug for your hubby from me
hi dfm!
you betcha
I'm amazed at all the working people and professionals who find time to babble.
it seems some babble WHILE at work!!!
i am not middle aged
everyone else from my generation spends all their time playing WoW or Warcraft or those silly games...
I know, crys -- a mere babe of 27
<== Babbles at work... *innocent whistle*
hi crys!
well.. I spend a lot of time playing lego batman!LOL
I hardly know anyone of your generation now, dfm!
XoD just monkeyed a Z... silly-sounding word!
good for you -- I had to ask for a clue for it
not A z... THE z...
I suspect there are several silly-sounding words in this grid
(which I don't have yet)
well well well -- nbt
I have *got* to use that word in conversation tomorrow...
nbt is gonna be hard.. I can tell..
I thought so, m9, but flosey didn't
which tiles come pre-blanked?
the u's
up center L
and bottom corner H
good, no need to try silly-sounding words like "uzot" any more...
top row L, second row U, Bottom row U and H
I still have 4 bt's
And there are several one-word tiles.
and a tz4
the tz4, oh4, co4 are standard babblets...
And I'm over halfway, so will head for bed.
night jilli :o)
do you want the one-word tiles before I go, dfm?
stats for the bottom o please??
I think I'm fine for now... :o)
os5/14
os5/14, m9
thanks... looking..
missing the Is for nbt
that an L?
or an I?
phantom imidaz5 >.> the is in row 4
they each have only one word -- ic4/5 and iz4/9
it's an i. m9
yay nbt ^.^ thanks :oD
wtg dfm :)
wd dfm!@
36 to go... and ruby was right, this IS a hard grid...
and now goodnight all :-) ...*poof*
night jilli!
night jii!
This grid totally needs to be a French Babble grid.
nbt!
yay m9!
now i just need a 6 and a 7 for nbs!!LOL
a4+5+6+7
hmmm...
s7 sort-of-related s6
nbs!
18, and I really want to list early today XoD <-- hasn't listed for two days :o(
thanks dfm!
yay! Which one did you find?
a4,5,6,7! or rather a4,6,7,5 LOL
1/2 way
and I am going to list!
you people and your dependence on lists... ;oP
well... pfpft to you! ;-P We can't all be young genius...
<-- just trained his monkeys well... except, they need a bit of help when monkeying R, S and T words
hmm... so full fo6 nudity wouldn't be rated "R".. LOL
uhh... okay, we'll go with that.
lol.. the grid has me fr6ed!!
How many 6+ are there?
6
o.0 woah I found them all already
wow! good going!
wait, did you include 7s in that count? o.0
no. 6 6's. 2 7's
oh XoD then I'm missing two -- now one -- 6 >.>
si6?
have that, and si7 too
fo6
did you need a clue?
fr
he
at6 fo6 fr6 si6 sm6
oh don't have the he6
found it :o)
amazing.
yay, down to single digit left :oD
whoo hoo!
left pinkie toe??
no, then I wouldn't be able to type! Do:
monkey!
I replaced them with automated typewriters yesterday... saves the costs of the bananas.
but it's hard on the keyboard to keep dropping it! :-)
oohhh... I coud go to the pb for that emoticon!
oh no.. and for that too! :-0
and then add an I to compare it with something!
ok... uh... 'like' I get that!
woah, si4/4 and si4/5 right next to each other...
3 left! Automated typewriters are just as good as monkeys!
wow. you... like this grid... are specific!
oh.. and measurable..
not to mention attainable, realistic and timely!
Do: speaking of which I have to finish my work report (i.e. start writing it...) by this Friday... spent too long on the intro, which is now four thousand words over the word limit of 500 o.o wish they had told us the word limit EARLIER :o(
chog isn't helpful for words today
four THOUSAND!?!?!?!?!?!??!???
did you read the whole chog? I haven't
yeah, four thousand... -.-
I usually read the entire early chog up to 0500h Babble Time.
wow. sounds like you have some editing to do my friend.
and I must leave you now. it's very late!
it's almost bed for me too... night m9!
night!
la
"la"? o.0
and la to you marigold
up to 67 words, no single digits for me! see you after lunch!
*Tiptoes through the chog. Checks PB to see if anyone is sleeping in there*
hello everybody
The only noise is the tumbleweed blowing through.

Hiya Haz and Jaq
Hello, jacq, Molly.

heya molly
Ooo Jaq, nasty weather.
it's november in the north east of scotland, can't expect anything else lol
how is the weather with you?
We had hailstones yesterday, today is dry but very frosty.
it has been hail on and off since about 11 last night
Gorgeous for November. In the high 50's. Almost like Spring. I love it. Seems like it's chilly across the pond though. Bundle up ladies.
weather from siberia
Today is a short day at work for me. Then home to continue the Thanksgiving preparations.

hi Jacq and all
much better clue lynxxx
heya too
brb
Hey
hi Infernal
hi lynxxx
hi Carlee!
sigh
what?
Lynxx have you seen the new La Trob Uni Advert for the guy going there being a lawyer
nope
Ok this advert is for their Law Course. Complete wank. If you have top TER score you get in as an older student you have to do a piddly arts course for a year. Techniqually you pay them $$$$ for a year for nothing
Is the 'arts' year common accross all degrees - or just for mature age?
To get into law you have to have a high TER score or do a course first. They also refuse to take TAFE students that have Dux of the school too.
That does sound sensible, pity the TAFE gets no credit - they do in some subjects though don't they? maybe just not law
I guess it just irritates me that the advert makes it seem so easy when it isn't/
has anyone got a clue for fr6 please?
BBS need to check the oven
it sounds like a nut
change the first letter
ty very much
yw
time to go start cooking
take care everyone, happy thanksgiving to those i won't see tomorrow, have fun and fireworks

oh..ok..byebye lynxxx
By the looks of traffic, I am one of about ten people who actually went to work today.
what's the z?
mornin babblers!
quiet mornin, eva :)
i bet all the US babblers are off to visit relatives for the holiday tomorrow.
hello friends. here for a quick few, not having much luck with the grid though
this us babbler should be cleaning....dread
i'm not.
za 4/12
i'm not off to visit relatives, i mean. they are coming to me. but on friday. plenty of time to clean.
hurshy, all apologies, but I have no idea what the z is. zero. zilch.
thank you molly!!
we are going to chris's parents house, which, thankfully, is less than an hour from us. :)
i have at7... anyone got the other 7 ?
yes, hurshy, it's si7
talking to yourself again, dear?
Good morning everyone!
good morning car my love
Trif...can I help with the cleaning?
well, it's really one of the few options you have to recover yourself when you pull a peri.
nope, it is all good.
but if you need someplace to just hang out today, you are very welcome
I got slammed with work yesterday...one dr. alone 20 reports!!!! I'm here for the day! Mom is going to do the errands for me.
primo and espgeorgia are taking tertiare to see megamind, which I know your fry have already seen, but you could turf them off
car, youre welcome to come over and help US clean -- our house hasnt been truly clean + tidy since before the wedding!!
Good that you don't have a long drive Eva. That makes the day nicer.
Ooooh....maybe....they are still asleep...I will ask them.
dont they have school???
Eva, my dear, you know i would if I were closer...keep the house messy...tell everyone you are still on your honeymoon and are "busy" with other things!!!!
D does not have school and I kept Z home.
oh no, is he sick?
yesterday was our one-month-iversary! hehe
Not really...just tired and its only a 1/2 day.
I got the Z...what a funny word...I think I will use it more often as I like the sound of it!
oh. okay. I wish they would only count it as a half day absence. It used to chap me that if the kids were sick on a half day, it still got counted as a whole day absent
LOLOL click on the def of the z, and see what is listed first under related searches....wth?
LOL! Just read the slang definition of the Z word....can DEFINITELY use that one more often!!!!
Help with the i's please?
Happy Anniversary Eva!
Trif, the z word is like fatoosh. It just has a cool sound.
got it! thanks molly
If it is a holder for a hot cup of coffee...how does one pick up the cup without burning one's hands?

Sorry, I was referring to Car Ee's comment about using the z word more.
heh, thanks car. :)
using the z, carole....duh
I like the second definition for the z word better.
Me too!!!
Managed to find the ic 4...what is the other i?
whoa. anyone else's babble just have a stroke?
bbl
Don't know, I was logged out for a while. Just logged back in.
Good Wednesday morning!!!!!
mornin mom!
i have put my dads roasted potato recipe in my profile for you. :)
Good morning Eva, thank you for the recipe. I can't wait to try it
im going to try it for the first time tomorrow! going to put some parsnips in there too. :)
it sounds delicious
that will add some color and make them pretty
yes, they get just a little bit brown and nice + crispy on the outside. they are my favorite. :)
maybe I will do that this weekend
im making turkey loaf for dinner tonight, so maybe i will try to few tonight as a trial run...
I am sure you will do the recipe proud
hopefully! my dad was the cook in our family, and im afraid its a trait that was passed onto my brother, not me. i do a fair hand at baking, but when it comes to regular cooking, i need to follow a recipe. dear husband is much better at throwing stuff in a pan + producing something edible...heh
:-) I have to follow a recipe as well and I have been married 27 years
we FINALLY went grocery shopping last night. we havent done that for like 3 months! with all the wedding stuff, we were far too busy, and FAR too poor...heh
that probably cost you a pretty penny
yeah, like $300 worth of pretty pennies. *ouch*
for sure
do you clip coupons?
i try, but im really bad at remembering to use them
lol
i always remember that i have a coupon at home when the item is in my hand at the store...
You need an envelope to stick them in and paper clip it to your list
I carry all my coupons with me not just the ones I need for that trip
i dont have room to always carry them with me. and i often will swing by the store on my way home for just one or two thing...
you will get into a routine
and find a way that works for you
yeah. still working on getting into those kinds of routines. :)
it is early yet
at least i clip them. using them is the next step, right? hehe
clipping them is half the battle
and by far the most time consuming
good morning babble land
good morning DR
Hi Mom- good to see you
so good to see you as well.
thank you
Happy Thanksgiving all
((Boo)) and to you as well, good morning

good morning JMC
hi all
hi DR long time no see
Mom, look at definition number two for the z word. I'm adding it to my vocabulary. : D
i have actually seen one once in my life
Sorry, definition number three.
ty Mom and Hi JMC- Had to take a phone call... looks like my MIL either has a bladder infection that is affecting her brain or has senility set in
oh in that case i have seen hundreds!! lol
lol Molly
I love that definition
oh DR
I love that definition too!
they don't tell you but beyond a bladder infection, hallucinations are common in the elderly along with paranoia -- try to get her screened by a geriatric psych asap
i went through this with my mother and i was amazed to find out this well kept but wide spread secret
she called the police to tell them the people who were visiting her husband robbed her... her husband has been dead for 8 years
we have had issues with her before with bipolar but this is new
we have had issues with her before with bipolar but this is new
we have had issues with her before with bipolar but this is new
hubby is on his way over there
my point exactly -- she probably actually saw the "people" and her husband -- my mother kept seeing two legged rats
sorry to hear it DR -- hang in there and give yourself and hubby lots of hugs
yes, I am hoping the police take her to the hospital
thanks
thanks
thanks
sorry - keyboard is sticking
*hic*
oh ((DR)) I am so sorry
*dives into Babble at work... again* We have no z4s at work :oO

*smack* ty dfm
hi Molly! :o)
thanks dfm
well the za4 is entertaining
woohoo found the si 7
DR I'd like to express sentiment in agreement with what everyone has said here... never known anyone with Alzheimer's myself, even when I volunteered at the Geriatric centre, though, so I don't have personal experience to which I can relate...
thanks DR, got it
wtg DR
thank you Dfm
*thinks dfm is a full member of babbleland now*

total/tile word counts for M,R,S,T?
Morning folks
*wonders if nbt is possible in the two remaining minutes*
m4 for the top m11 for the bottom

hi dfm!!!!!!
I personally am ok. MIL having some issues. you can read in the chog- How are YOU?
I am good. sort of finding my life controlled by the pesky Marathon training schedule. MIL....big hugs. two of my Grandparents have sufferred with forms of dementia, not fun....
how is Jacob doing this year?
thanks..Jacob is doing well. He has made some new friends which is key and has gotten into exercise and working out... has his own little routine
Sounds great!
soon he will be all pumped for the ladies of the is it 7th grade?
6th grade is hard with all the hormones raging
That is his plan! : )
:D
very nice.
dfm....how are you?
fine :o) <-- is horrible at answering the "how are you" question
I fear my sauna hot pants may have chased everyone off...
I am off to start my day- may be back later depending- thank you everyone for your supportive words. I appreciate it
fine is a nice answer.
it is the one the boss always wants to hear.
:o/ mine likes it more when I complain about how early in the morning it is... for some reason...
Will be thinking of MIL DR. Very glad to hear Jacob is having a good year.
bye DR :o)
really dfm? Mine would not like to hear that at all.
I think it's because then he's not the only one complaining...
Not me Red. I'm stylin' in my sauna pants and neon orange Crocs. Woot!
ahhh. molly you look hawt!!
and now i must go and attend to the fish tank and crock pot.....
be back in a bit.
Just don't put what's in the fish tank in the crock pot, okay Red? : o
And don't put what's meant for the crock pot in the fish tank!
XoD this grid totally needs to be in French.
fr
fr is for french?
hi Dorens :o)
back again...
i cant believe how tired i am...its 10 am and i already had a nap
hi carlee :o)
hi dmf
<-- woke at 0713h and thought it was 1435h >.<
i woke up at 5 from my head cold...was up to 8....napped until now....10 am
ooh, head colds suck... so does waking up so early... :o(
not so much in the head now...its moved down...where i prefer
Good Morning Babblers..
not so much good morning but good afternoon for me, i am in England. Been playing for a few days and am absolutely hooked! not very good though, will keep trying
Hi Xe, welcome.
that's the spirit .. xeiluj
hi and welcome(ish), xeiluj :o)
don't worry, you'll get better at it... there are a lot of words that are common in Babble you'll learn! (warning: said words are rarely, if ever, usable in conversation. Do not attempt to incorporate them into everyday speech, unless you don't mind being thought of as crazy.)
also, morning Christa :o)
i used to love boggle and my sister told me there was a game that included boggle and scrabble. Tried to buy it online and thats how i found this place. Absolutley brilliant. Thanks for the welcome and i quite like the thought of being crazy, seems quite natural to me ;)
Try asking your boss whether they have any za4s in the office, then!
hi all
how's the grid?
hi ardilla :o)
good morning all
hi teach :o)
grid isn't so fun today, but a number of amusing words (za4, anyone?) and amusing non-words (at which to laff)
being a newbie i am allowed to ask what is a za4, i think os anyway!!!
good morning everyone:)
thanks for the clue (za) df....
za 4 = a holder, usually of ornamental metal, for a coffee cup without a handle.
russian tea glasses
always wanted a few of those
at least that's what the dictionary said - never heard of it
hi there crossy and teach
brb gps is yelling at me
xei we avoid using words found in the Grid here, instead writing them as the first two letters + number of letters, and then possibly a slash and the number of points the word scores so for example "curare" would be cu6 or cu6/32.
hi crossy :o)
`
(9annie)) howdy dmf and ardillia
hello everyone
hi ((crossy))
that makes sense dfn, thank you
hi annie :o)
hi dfm :)
hi annie
yay, someone can spell ;oP (I don't mind though, my name is sort of unspellable...)
hi ardilla, how is the new car?
wonderful!
great, you can go see all the sights
bbs...need a power nap and take antibiotics
lol dmf..spelling and babble have very little in common sometimes;)
well our new player xeiluj is juliex backwards so what is in a name?
FM!!
*decloaks*
Good afternoon Ata and hello all.
www.youtube.com/?v=C-PkQRh3QXA
tee hee hee
hi FM, ata, mixi! :o)
((FM))
*springs unbidden into the chat log*
Did Spangle push you?
Hi haz, dfmchfhf
((crossy)
<-- feels like a greet machine hi haz! :o)
Not quite!
I love it when Haz is unbidden. : D
hello Ata, FM, Haz!
and to Molly, hello
found the z word, feel very proud of myself!! Ah, bet you get fed up of newbies ;)
Hello everyone.
<--------------- greets Spanglettinella
Sorry to have missed Ardilla. Hi Molly .... and the flying nun :)
we always welcome newbies.
We hate the newbies, we form petitions to have them thrown out so we can keep babble for the purists and oldies.
Quite windy here today...good for flying
<-------- bids hello to the next 20 people that come in.
Now let's see if the newbies can decipher sarcastic/tonuge in cheek font.
newbies are a form of amusement until they go pro. :oD
<-------- looks disapproving at haz
mm..one of our adhd kitties just ran through the livingroom at abot 1,000 miles an hour, tried to swing left into the hallway, lost traction and careened into the hall closet and crash landed into the footwear....
that would be puss-in-boots
the newbie got it and giggled :0)
I'm only joking. We get commission from the newbies who go pro.
Pro-membership interest anywhere?
LOL crossy
Also advice given on resources for success and the use of Paypal for all your virtual payment needs.
dont forget morewords
I'm working up to that.
It's filed under resources for success.
take everything that Haz says with a pinch of sal apart from her excellent clues.
I'm shocked!
a pinch of sal? does sallycat know about this?
When have I ever led anyone astray? Spread false rumours? When?
ok ok I still can't type - why are you surprised?
now xeiluj , you may hear some thing about me, many have been highly embellished and most are from an evil crosshair that we had in here, which i killed....
Good Morning Fellow Babblers
I'm not surprised you can't type, I'm surprised that you suggest my words are to be taken lightly.
<------------ is not surprised
howdy riverdance
Good morning, River.
Hello Riverdance
hi River :o) <-- feels more like a greet-bot XoD
and a wonderful job you are doing
liking the fact that there a lot of nutters out there, makwes me feel at home :0)
I'm afraid Minver has that job sewn up
but in her absense dfmchfhf is doing wonderfully
The meeting and greeting? She's been practising for so long, I don't think anyone could be more efficient.
So, julie, which part of England are you from?
Now this grid appears to have a bit of a bite to it today
Midlands
It has a bite in its ta4 but is very doable.
hey, you use a circular nose too! :o0
Ah, we have some other Midlands babblers. Welcome to babble, I'm sure you'll enjoy it.
ahh yes xeiluj ,nutters gave your locale away welcome to the grid;)
welcome aboard xeiluj
ta very much, but not doing too much on the grid, enjoying it on the chat bit too much;0)
any hints on the "i"s....or the "e", for that matter?
there's a grid? :oO
left I ic4 right I iz4
E el4
el + short greeting
i like your style ))))))
tyvm
*checks chog* nope, didn't greet yet...
hi trents :o)
by the way......hello everyone!! So intent on this grid this morning - I was being rude...
poor MAFF. not allowed
(morning all...sneaking a minute or two while waiting for my gson's arrival)
Hello, trents and Pini.
love the turkey, pini
howdy pini
<-- usually tumbles into chat without greeting anyone, then greets all the people who come in *after*...
pini! :o)
Morning Pini
phantom: camelot and matelot
halfway there - ahhhhh
<-- still stuck at one word left, has been there for two hours...
good morning everyone, clue for the o in the 5th row pls?
oh 4/ like a state in the U.S.
Our old friend oh4.
Hi dawg, pini, nana, dfm etal
Bottom O os5
(learned that one yesterday and remembered it)
and Smilodon
Or ol4 and its plural, looks like someone swooning in front of Mr DiCaprio.
os5...ty, thinking and monkeying
os5 ===os and ***cy Mouse
thnx, annie
****ky Mouse, I mean
NBT
ty annie! nbt for me too!
nana, you got it even with my typo
lol - yup
I knew what you meant
years of chat....lol
Counts on the C, Fs, L, N please?
is a normal greetings card 6x4 or 7x5?
I think either can be normal.
hang on a sec Ata will check
someone#s commissioned me to make a "card-sized" thing!
4 c words
10 f words
8 l words
4 n words
thanks haz, know what I'm missing now :o)
6x4 was the standard but you can go up to A5 envelope size w/o incurring extra postage.
aha! ty!
A bigger card would give you more scope, wouldn't it?
So long as you are not over 150gms Ata
yes, but more painting for the price!
yay, imaginary fireworks! ^.^
You're getting very mercenary, Ata!
double check on the royal mail site if postage is a factor for you.
Congratulations, dfm.
congrats, dfm
I am! Being professional! Does £30 = 6x4 or 7x5 LOL
Congrats dfm
congrats on the fireworks of the finishers! (arrival here, just as I pressed enter on my initial greeting)...have a great day, cya tonight!
bye pini!
At for heavens sake, how many colours, what weight of card, how complex the design ...!?
bye pini
Bye, Pini!
yay dfm on the fireworks
I always type Pink and have to correct it.
"whatever I want" !!!!
Hi and bye Pini!
whooo hooooo dfm!!
hi/bye pini
Is it a one off Ata? Hey lbd!
hello lbd
hmm, weird, I don't think greet-bot greeted lbd, did I?
(belated hello, lbd :o) )
one off, yep
howdy dfm! hi River!
then I would go 6x4 that is more than enough rom for a design, limit your colours and poss a tiny touch of gold or silver.
finito. now what can i do to procrastinate cleaning?
yes, I think that is a very wise decision
phone brb
YAY for dawg!!!
congrats lbd
congrats lbd! :o)
Well done, lbd.
ty ty ty. only two words gave me a fit, can't believe the 4's i missed either! must be the weather...yup, that's my story and i'm sticking with it! lol
Oh, the weather is a well known handicap.
the weather will get you everytime
It's always the weather's fault.
Except when FM is to blame
mayhaps FM is to blame for the weather.
of corurse she is!
monkeys deserve an extra banana today - FIREWORKS for me
*course
Well done, River!
hello Eva
Excellent, River
congrats, river! :o)
hi EvaN! :o)
thank you haz - and did it without a clue from you - that is quite a feat...
thanks everyone - must get to work now - have a great day and Happy Thanksgiving everyone
Have a good day tomorrow, River!
hello, hello!
for anyone who may be interested, i finally uploaded a photo of the new hairdo to my flickr...
Gosh, it's really short!
yup! chop-chop-chop!
What's it like at the back?
buzzed
Does that mean done with a buzzy thing?
there are some other photos on my FB
Evan, I like it, has a nice shape. It will be easy to keep just mess it around with your fingers and that should do it. What made you decide to cut it all off?
(We're great on the technical names)
yes. the back was done with clippers. shorn nice + close.
I like the bits at the front coming onto your face, kind of pixieish.
Anyone need a techie name ask me
Love the look EvaN but we are all stil waiting for a pic of the famous shoes.
i have had it pretty darn short before, though not quite THIS short. it is SO easy to take care of so far! just want to play with it so i can manage a few different looks from it... i had grown my hair a little longer than i really prefer for the wedding and by the wedding day, it was just driving me nuts. i was kinda itching for a change anyway, so i just decided to lop it all off! my hair grows very quickly anyway, so i figured if i really hate it, it wont take too long to grow back out...
FM -- *im* still waiting for a photo of the shoes! i shall have to don them at home and take a piccie, just for you all. :)
crossy liked your wedding hair:(
I'm always amazed at how quickly stidmama's hair grows. She has pictures only months apart and her hair is so different.
ta EvaN :)
i liked the wedding hair too, just had that style for a while. i used to change my hairstyle or hair color every other month, so i was feeling a wee bit stagnant. im sure that style will make its way back into the rotation, but for now, im just excited to have a style thats so easy.
I still have 30 more to find but I must at least do some *starting of the Thanksgiving Day) prep. I will be back later. Happy TD to you all on both sides of the pond. We all have something to be grateful for.
And Happy Thanksgiving to you as well, Annie. Hope the preparations go smoothly.
and to you Annie dear!
seems the perfect time to share my dads favorite joke (which i share every year)...
They also celebrate Thanksgiving over in England...
go for it EvaN
But Americans call it "Independence Day."
We still weep to think you'd want to leave us....
oh ha ha :)
Cute hair Eva. Your stylist did an excellent job.
those photos were actually taken an my hairdressers house, immediately after she finished my hair -- she was like "gimme your phone, im taking pictures!" then she made me upload then to FB before i left... hehe
Eva!! It looks awesome. Hope you're having fun messing around with it ;)
you change your hair colour once a month?!!! lol
i should buy stock in those hair colour kits;)
hello all....your hair is cute. I am going to have to go get some highlights done soon for Xmas. Must appear the total Florida woman you know.
hi NB :o) welcome back red
Hey, Dfm :) thought I was invisible then ;)
dishes are done, dog walked again, trash removed, and fish tank water changed, will see if all fish survive in 24 hours...
Now all I have to do is digest the chicken breast that was not so nice, and go running in the 80 degree heat.
<-- is being very greet-bot-like
Or friendly. Friendly is another word for that ;)
I'll swap you, Red. Frrrrreezing over here.
friendly is fine. Hello NB and cross and eva and and and
I should have just gone this morning but I felt so bad. no more eating out for me.
howdy red;)
store run brb..semi-poof
JESSEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!
evening all
hello pixie! it looks great :)
Hey, Julie :)
thanky dear. :)
hi nb, long time no see how are you?
*sneaks in*
hi jmc
hi julie :o)
have you been having fun experimenting? ;)
ohhh, bit of a mixed bag right now, Julie! Long story ;) how about you?
about the same but happy enough thanks
i havent really had much opportunity yet to play with it, but darling hubby set out all the different hair products last night, so i think hes hoping i will be sporting a faux-hawk or spikes of some sort tomorrow for thanksgiving...hehe
blooming kids helping bless lol
hi garyandjullie
sounds so odd to me evan i have been wearing my hair more or less the same since 9th grade
my wedding pic was as wild as i got
hi all
jmc -- i had LONG hair all through my childhood up until the end of HS, when a haircut-gone-awry left me with (what seemed to me at the time) frighteningly short hair. (keeping in mind, it was still shoulder-length)
LOL! well I hope he gets his wish ;) I love changing my hair...will have to wait a bit before I next get to, though. Currently in the stage of begging scissor-happy friends to trim it ;)
ever since then, i have played with the cut, style, length, color... now i get bored with it very quickly!
i just hate people messing with my hair -- think i was a cat in an earlier life ;-)
it gives me goosebumps just to think of it
im actually the same way -- if i see someone reach for my hair, i swat their hand away. but i deal with it for a good haircut. :)
Just nipped in briefly to share this funny link with you all: <http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vIgdnl OSlps>. Will mean more to facebook users :-)
I loooove people playing with my hair...
*shivers*
hi sally! :o)
jesse, if ever you make it to this side of the pond, i will have to take you to my hairdresser, dottie. she would LURVE you. :)
Hi dfm. Pretending I'm not here.
well actually, I kind of had to cut it shorter recently. Not short short, but a definite case of gathering up the ponytail and lopping it off. Broke my heart, but I had to do it.
good pretending sally and cute video
stats for either i?
Left I ic4/5 Right I iz4/9
oh man, coworkers walked many blocks away to fetch us lunch from a korean food truck. i am SO hungry, and my mouth is watering!! i hope this is as good as the restaurant we used to go to every year for my brothers birthday... cant wait for them to get back!
ty dfm
thank dfm I am also going to have to go off, time to prepare for me misery run.
:-(
well, if I had not stayed up late and ate bad food, the run would be done, so its my own fault.
and now, see you all later...
be well red
so hunglee...
bye red, have a "fun" run ;o)
ugh, appointment time. gotta go, not looking forward to this! later :)
(((huggles))) be well, hon. :)
bye NB :o)
maize is not in the grid, maize is not in the grid, maize is not in the grid
Hiyas, kids!
equally, mais and maiis are French...
hi Judi! :o)
hi Babblers, just popping in to say hi from Paris.. enjoying this city so much!
a word being french has never stopped dr g before lol
howdy aloy
glad to be here before I get too decrepit.. lots of walking! howdy, crossy.. (-:
feeling a tad fr 5/16 today aloy?
Hola!
yay!! coworkers have returned bearing FOOD!
lol, must have put about six miles on the pedometer today.. and it is cold! But.. the sights were wonderful (-:
howdy hannah
wat up?
speaking of food, going on 7pm here.. time to go find a nice cafe! bye for now.. Happy Babbling!
¡¡¡spɹoÊÇɹıɟ
i walk for a living aloy,i put an average of 8-12 miles on per day and wear out 2 pairs of running shoes and 2 pairs of winter boots per year..i can kick open steel doors but the rest of the body is shot;)
i am now flat footed like donald duck as well
holy cow, crossy! and you never get plantar fasciitis? Must have some good walking shoes!
i have destroyed my feet aloy,i have been opened up twice for bone spurs and when my arches dropped i was in agony for quite a while
ooch.. sorry about that, I empathize.. orthotics?
i just noticed the soles on my current pair ar paper thin again..will have to get a new pair this week...sigh
have very high arches myself, difficult to find shoes that feel "right"
insets are hard for me aloy, the arches are gone, but they no longer hurt..i think i can live with flat feet now
ok.. but wish there was some help for you.. supportive socks?
i generally use skateboarder shoes for 9 months or so,and rock climbing boots for winter
hi Aloy :o)
You two are making my feet hurt.
cushy cushy soles?
lol, Molly.. mine are beginning to ache too!
Skateboarder shoes????
indeed and no arch in them, they are flat as a pancake
hi dfmch!
Poor, Crossy. Rollerblades? Snowboard?
yeah, mine too :o\
i walk for a living, when i am on my own time,i do not walk much
o.o is it almost 1300h already?! I should go eat some time <.<
10-12 miles is enough for one day, once i wore a pedometer to work...just made myself more tired looking at it lol
aack.. gotta scoot.. see "y'all" tomorrow.. hope my feet hold out for the Louvre!
tc aloy
bye aloy :o)
Say hi to Mona for us Aloy.
is not "mizo" that japaneese soup?
or is that mitzo
the japanese soup is in the grid
not a z, crossy
Yes, Mitzo, it's Japanese Kosher soup. : P
try a different consonant in the middle
(actually it's not a soup, it's the soybean *in* the soup that gives it its name)
ahh there it is..was being inscruitable
Last la-5? I listed and still can't get it!
<-- is off to lunch, see everyone later! :o)
la + yo ho ho and a bottle of....
NM, finally monkeyed it. Anyone need anything?
i need a clue for everything but ta 4/4
lol
Hey. :D
Well here's a clue for one I didn't know: the sm/6 is the word for tiny pieces of colored glass used in mosaics. Think of all the time you'll save by having a one word way of saying that.
Yes Jan, mosaics comes up in my everyday conversation so many, many times. : P
Isn't that a tessera? :oO
hi cgw :o)
:D
erm... I mean... *pretends cgw is invisibible*
here is another name for it... cabochons
D:< I'm not invisibible!
isn't a cabochon a rounded gem?
<-- too busy eating to check >.>
Eating sounds good. I'm starving. D:
*waiting for Eva to report on the Korean take-away*
judi -- it was actually quite good!
crossy has never had Korean take out food
definitely ate too much, though
this wasnt even really take-away... it was from a truck! hehe
we have indian food, thai,we even have a martini and sushi place but no korean take out
Well, you had to take it away from the truck, so it counts!
<-- hasn't had Korean take-out... has been over at Koreans' places for lunch/dinner, and also to Korean restaurants...
i had bulgogi -- half regular, half spicy. it comes over rice, and a salad (just lettuce and dressing, but tasty!) and kimchi -- i skip the kimchi. :)
<--------- loves bulgogi :)
food trucks are becoming very popular in the DC area. there is a website where you can see where all the food trucks are at any given time and what they are serving that day...
<-- failed at making bulgogi last time he tried :o(
im not normally a beef gal, but im making turkey loaf for dinner, and of course we will have turkey tomorrow (and probably the next day or two also!)
Turkey loaf! *shudders*
turkey loaf?
meatloaf made outta turkey. its really quite good! my husband loves it, so thats saying something. :)
<-- has never had meatloaf before :o/
i loved my dads meatloaf growing up
I'm staunchly traditional about my Thanksgiving. Gotta have the whole bird and nothing but the whole bird.
oh, we are having the bird for thanksgiving! turkey loaf is just tonights dinner.
Oh, okay then. You're off the turkey hook then.
evening all - missed the chat for the z
spelt with an s
- soup that is
hi kazz :o)
My father made a processed turkey loaf for T'Giving one year (my mother was too sick to get out of bed). It was shaped like a a football. I was appalled that we weren't going to cook a real turkey. He put that thing on the cutting board and put it in the middle of the table. I was at least glad that I wasn't the only one looking so crestfallen. It was awful. When we sliced it, it looked like a yin/yang symbol - half white/half dark. Tasted like salt.
hi
how long is the z please
Isn't that what most processed food is anyway? -- salt (and MSG), I mean...
z4
oh dear, judi! i promise, my turkey loaf (1) is quite tasty, and (2) will NEVER make it to the thanksgiving table!
dfm come over to my house -- you have not eaten too many things
hi all i slipped out to deal with one or two crisis
is it thanksgiving this week?
In retrospect, I think my father was just too intimidated to attempt to cook a real turkey. I eventually forgave him.
very generous of you judi
*smacks Kazzer upside the head* Like, yeah!
but you're more than ten hours away (by bus/car)... :o(
i broke my foot on christmas eve one year and my husband was stuck making the very labor intensive goose for dinner
i'm english - we dont have it
don't worry, kaz, you're not alone in not knowing (until about the beginning of this week!)
uh oh, meeting, be back later XoD
cya
you can stay over dfm and probably would have to so i could catch you up on your food experiences
Nonsense, Kazzer! You are welcome to give thanks with the rest of us? (Just like "Festivus")

*delete ?*
Oh, ouch, Ata.
christmas is enough turkey for me - next month starts the rounds of xmas lunches with work, friends etc etc - i shall be gobbling before christmas
christmas is goose or ham
:P
you just wish you still had all our natural resources
Hubby and I are going to a brunch tomorrow. I had back surgery six days ago and it will just be the two of us - so, no slinging casserole dishes for me.
oh well we usually have turkey and beef and pork and ham with cold cuts on boxing day and then curry for the rest of the year
ah boxing day -- the day when the lords taken care of the peons who had to work christmas
my dad does a mean deboned turkey with lovely sausage meat and sage and onion stuffing
is it time to yet again repeat my dads favorite joke? the English DO celebrate Thanksgiving... it's just that the Americans call it "Independence Day"
cant get the z4- i feel like I monkeyed every combo
my favorite thanksgiving dinner is cold pizza by myself

the list helps.
lol lbd... im starting to bake... im avoiding grid til im done.. im on #1 of 3 desserts
hi cos! :o)
hey dfm :)
hi cos. what kind of desserts?
right now a variation of the apple walnut squares recipie that molly gave me. i revised it, then cherry slices and then the one and only pumpkin pie from stratch
wow, i'm impressed! i made two cran/raspberry gelatin salads and some cowboy caviar.
cowboy caviar? whats in it?
black and white beans, chilis, onions, celery, tomatoes, corn, and a homemade dressing
oh sounds good
Hi to my fellow babblers! How is everyone doing today
By the way, congratulations to all the finishers! YAY!
That sounds good, cut up really fine?
hi Min
hi min! welcome to the grid. how are you today? I'm bored.
I am bored as well. Accidentally entered last word for fireworks.I wanted to save my last word for later on.
yes, dice all veggies finely. rinse beans and mix it all up nicely. let it marinate add any other spices you might like. i added some cumin for more of a mexican flavour
Guess I'll work on a story of clues, not that it's needed
and what do you mix up for the dressing?
ewww forecast calls for -20 degrees
uh oh. now i have to really think of what i tossed into the bowl! lol
50 mph wind
I will be here off & on to clue for the rest of this day.
hi minv!
olive oil, vinegar (i used balsalmic), grated garlic, pepper, salt, some italian seasonings and a touch of wasabe paste
Hello dfmchfhf! How are you doing? Did you finish grid
fine, and yep finished :o)
OK thanks, I'll try that

Congratulations dfmchfhf on finishing early! Hooray!

thats what i get for leaving the keyboard
whoooo hoooooo LYNXXX!!

YAY lynxxx!!!!
hey all
no work LBD?
hi stid!
hi stiddy! nope off today and tomorrow
I am writing my second "scold" letter to the college for remaining open yesterday (and today)
Hi stidmama! How are you doing? Welcome to the grid
off is good! :-D
no travel days for the college? community colleges rarely give students travel days
actually the whole week was off for my college, son's college goes through today (usually) but yesterday and today has been closed because of the dangerous roads.
dessert 1 in oven! someone remind me in 40 mins lol
i can only think of one time the cc was closed, and it was the highway patrol that closed everything down for several hours
However, my school was "open" for non-class activities and some of us grad students had meetings on campus scheduled. By remaining open, the college endangered both faculty and staff as well as students who are unfamiliar with local road hazards during icy weather
I am NOT pleased with their decision to remain open.
ahh, but the college isn't in loco parentis if it is for non academics. they assume that the students will have enough sense to make the right decisions.
trying to think of another "nice" way to call them idiots without actually calling them idiots... more concerned for staff actually. roads were VERY dangerous yesterday.
is jmc here?
hey cos! haven't seen her yet, and she usually speaks up when I talk about my school.
ah ok she sent me an email on FB asking which one I was on here
a lot of "vacations" are decided by union contracts. they trade off days for longer vacations during winter and spring
yes, I am aware of that LBD -- but are there no provisions for closing a school (essential personnel only) when conditions are dangerous? A week before, the school closed because of a power outtage. So why not close when it's physically dangerous to be on campus?
schools up here close due to dangerous weather...
thanks dfm! even a lot of state and county and city agencies closed yesterday due to the dangers of driving.
those decisions are "delicate" often the president has to contact a board of regent member to get the okay. some are allowed to make reasonable calls.
so it often comes down to who has the cajones to make a reasonable call for closure.
ah. I see. *wonders if it is PC to use cajones when responding to the dean's response to me*
when i worked at university, we often were told that at least one person per office had to be there.
of course we thought it was stupid to have to "man" an office that wasn't going to have any business due to the weather.
okay... I still think they were wrong. and since this school prides itself on having politically active students, maybe this IS a battle I wish to wage.
I will think about this further.
whether they close or not, they are bound to receive complaints -- keep that in mind.
true.
I can recall there was outrage at the school's decision to bring recess and lunchtime break indoors when the temperature outside was -55C including windchill when I was in middle school... :oS
a humane dean would have told everyone to stay home and left a message on the phones saying due to the weather the college was closed. and the hell with the president. of course a kind and humane president would have done the same.
well, this is a college I am talking about. ALL the K-12 schools closed in Western Washington north of Lewis county yesterday.
well, yes, but that was the first example that came to mind XoD
most public schools have built in "snow days" at least in areas that get snow.
exactly, LBD. and that is what I am concerned about. In recent years, this school that I have loved and been a part of for more than 25 years has really gone downhill imho as far as becoming more bureaucratic and unconcerned
at this point, my boys have used up their built in days and with the coming winter I expect they will be going long (again)
politics stiddy. always politics. where the money comes from is where the policies are made and enforced.
9 more to go..still getting back in the swing of playing the game after a long hiatus.
Missoula closed their schools yesterday, and told the families that the day would have to be made up. I'm assuming that the superintendent is anticipating some other snow days.
hi pbr!

Google it ardilla.

I mean wht.... was right
Good for wht--I'm just late in noticing. Whoot, whoot, and yeah.

bbs
bye wht. i need to go too. bbl
Hi. :D
Whew! Mashed potatoes done and in the fridge, awaiting re-heat tomorrow. Rolls in the oven, man I love the smell of fresh dough baking. Next up? Green bean casserole. Then the turkey gets dumped in the bucket of well seasoned brine.
Sounds like your thanksgiving is gonna be delicious :D
I'm ready too. Been at it all day. Tomorrow should be not too crazy!
It's times like these that I'm so glad I'm not held responsible for the thanksgiving meal, yet. xD
This is my first. Bound and determined to enjoy and not be too freaked out!
Haha, good luck. It always looks so hectic, to me. xD
Ah, I can't remember what it's like to just "show up for dinner". But I do enjoy preparing the feast. And Friday? That is an entire day of relaxation as payback.
The thing that worries me is not having something someone is expecting...other than that, it's all good!
Haha, I'm never gonna end up being responsible for the thanksgiving meal. I can't cook, I'm disorganized, I'm forgetful. Last year I completely forgot that it was gonna be thanksgiving until the day before. xD
Does that work? Geez...coulda faked that!!! ;)
xD
Oh, and be right back, eating. :D
PUNK!
Champ, I always take a small poll before Thanksgiving, asking what my guests consider "must haves" at the meal. If it's do-able, I include them all. Mostly, I just have family and our favorites are all the same. And very standard. Mashed potatoes, a sweet potato concoction, ho-made rolls, stuffing, gravy, green bean casserole and corn.
I did ask, but didn't get much of a response. Am cooking for hubby's family. So, did the usual...mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes, Turkey, asparagus, and lasagna. My mom always does a lasagna! And dressing, rolls, cranberries, salad...hope they'll be so full it'll be ok!
and WINE!!! Get 'em drunk and hope for the best! :)
Hahaha

D:

Invisibible?
za is a middle eartern word ( i think) for a coffee cup holder. also used in US for those plastic cup holders you hang inside car doors
That is so bizarre. I've never heard it before. xD

Hiya Peri.

hi Owl
well after last two days before thanksgiving, i am thinking of skipping this holiday
Why TO? What did I miss?
two years in a row car accident
Oh crap, are you okay?
not sure
hope so
What got hurt?
both hit and run. but i caught this one
my rear bumper, i was thiknign of getting it fixed anyway
OK, I have returned.
Hi TO, so sorry you have had an accident, but it sounds good that you caught your hitter and runner?
Sorry to hear about it TO. Glad you are physically okay.
Was your car parked when it was hit?
I am going to change my icon for T day but I will miss my sauna pants.
red what in the world?
hello
My icon was of "Sauna Pants" but now it is changed for gratefulness.
was there a sauna pants day that i missed? :(
No indeed there was not. I just found the image and loved it sooo much.
i shoudl chang efor thanksgiving,brb
but you know there should be a sauna pant icon day....
hi sadie
Hi Sadie!
LONG LIVE SAUNA PANTS!!!!
heck, sleet tomorrow
Below Zero weather here tonight.
I know that sauna pants are wore to a suana but what do they look like. I missed your icon, red
Bundle up you two. I would be really sad if it was that cold and/or sleety/snowy here on Thanksgiving. It's bad enough that crap interferes with Christmas some years.
sleet. yuck
you ae in colorado. wouldnt you expect that due to elevation?
Molly - I used your apple pecan square recipe as a template and I revised it a little. Turned out great!
TO - didn't say I was surprised lol.
molly - ur recipe called for one egg but it was way too dry so I added another egg and it worked.
what is the rsult? bar cookie or cake?
bar
i just finished the cherry slice bars and it looks great
next is pumpkin pie.. im taking a break for now
i have si7, what is the other 7 ?
pumpkin pie and sweet potato pie are si7
I have at 7/36
Ty for the si 7!
OK tank u
ty for the si7
Just took pumpkin cheesecake out of the oven...looks delicious!!!!1
As I recall, it's the almost stick of butter that gives that recipe it's moisture. Glad it turned out well Cos.
i added more apples and walnuts and cinnamon than called for..
look out for that at6 bomb! and then plural it
wow, so much cooking baking going on in the chog. I have to work, so no cooking going on here. I am bringing beans in a crock pot.
I usually improvise when I bake. Good call Cos. Extra fruit, nuts and spice never hurts.
ty monkey
pumpkin cheesecake, im comin to your house yum
but i appreciate the help molly!
too bad i cant give u a sample
so red after sccident my arm feels weird and my leg and also had pain on the sole of my foot
It is a new recipe that is actually "healthified"! I usually wouldn't try it, but it got incredible reviews and I was intrigued....from the taste of the batter I think it will be fabulous! I will let you know tomorrow!
start taking motrin now to!!
I have pumpkin cheesecake here too. There is nothing at all healthy about mine.
TO...I am sorry about your accident, but I am thankful that you are OK>
bt wht those place? very weird
car... im so on my way
Mine is a layer of cheesecake on the bottom and a layer of pumpkin pie on the top.
ty, i am going to eat now and figure out my pie recipe
Interesting twist on the crust...graham cracker crumbs and apple jelly!
i like it like that, Molly
i have no idea TO, accidents are odd...
molly i saw something like that -sandra lee?
Yummmers!
I'm almost done. I need to finish up the green bean casserole and put the turkey in to brine. Then I get a nice hot bath.
do you put any aromatics into brine? we only used salt water
I got my recipe from my aunt, years ago. It's very simple. It's like putting a half a cheesecake and a half a pumpkin pie together.
Ryan is making the green bean casserole from scratch. Fresh green beans, homemade mushroom soup, fried onions
sounds ogood somehow i think i have to bake, but i can buy something cant I?
I think you can buy something TO, indeed, if you want to.
TO...if I were closer I would give you my cheesecake to take...
the grid gets sort of difficult after half way now doesnt it?
ty - stor is much closer, but the guilt
the last fa4/7 has been pretty much in every grid lately
clue for R word from top right?
Ryan has outdone me. I use fresh beans, but canned soup and canned onions. For the brine, it's salt, maple syrup, brown sugar, garlic, onion, bay leaves and a combination of herbs. Think parsley, sage, rosemary and thyme.
TO - buy something store made. put it on your own platter dish and tell everyone you made it lol
Out in the country is consider a RU*** area
ouch! tank u, car.... fish me
I'm with Cosdem. TO...make it easy on yourself. You have had a tough day!
It's a safe bet when you first bring up the grid to type in fa 4, tits or shit.
pie is easy but someone requested my pound cake
i made mine with half fresh and half canned beans and canned golden mushroom soup and took it to my work luncheon
I bet it was delicious Ardilla. Are you feeling any better?
still working on the sweet potato pies
not really
everyone liked it so i'm happy
Every time someone says "sweet potato pie" James Taylor and Ray Charles start singing in my head.
fo6?
omg i love them and have been promised some on Monday - leftovers
fo 4/7 + ** gore
I think it's a lobe in your skull Cos.
brb lemme run to the ER and ask them :)
golden mushroom soup rocks. that is my recipe for pot roast
not a lobe in your brain or head... it's a word that means pertaining to a spring or fountain
razfart
ha! razfart
Har dee har. Times New Roman is a fo** + **l My Children is a soap.
well, had to call mom again cuz i think my batter is too thick
i am the only one who likes it around here
Clue for OL 5/12 please?
My bad. I was thinking of a membrane in a babies skull that has two more letters in it.
Or a baby's skull.
MollyL , that word is fo4 + inel
what are you making ard?
kje, you are a medical doc, right?
yes
geriatrician
i was forced to take a flu shot today at work even though i said i was allergic to eggs
they said i need a paper from a doc, but they didn't give me any time to get said paper
do you want me to shoot them for you?
did you get the preservative free one?
hey car the ol 5/12 is the an acid
yes i do, i'm pretty upset, thinking about quitting my job now
oleic
good grief....
I am really surprised they would take the rsik, how can they force you?
haha, yes car that's it
what did your comapny have to say about that? we have to sign saying we are NOT allergic or cannot get
because they are the army
epic Babble fail.
that is strange, Monkey, I did not think they could force it. usually they give us a form that says we are refusing it and we sign it.
Hello Knitter! How are you dahling?
why yes that would be it LOL
Ah, the army....not like a regular employer.
i am doing fine ty
we cannot sign the declination form without medical documentation that supports it
hi knot
I will say this years flu shot has been effective for me. last year I was so sick so many times, this year...only a few days once in a while.
there are some recent studies showing (at least in kids) that the flu shot is safe in most with egg allergies
when i could not produce the documentation, they called me a liar and siad it was grounds for dismissal
stop talking
depends on severity of the allergy
ours is voluntary but must fill out a form stating we are NOT allergic to eggs
but either way, they cannot force you - that is called assault
wai tmonkey, you are a ktr- doesnt yor company coatar have any input?
Fireworks!
not a happy start to my T'giving weekend... and my arm is killing me and my stomach feels nausaue
cotar
hello eathlings
I would go to your HR and file a formal complaint - at minimum they need a clearer policy
what is a cotar
yay car!
congratulations to Care!!!!!
my contract company was no help, they jsut said i had to do it if my NCO said so
contract technical rep but sorry that would be the army liasion with your company
yippeee for you car
Ty, ty, ty!
monkey - go take some tylenol and benadryl - you will still be mad but should help the pain and nausea
yes i have one of those TO, but she just sides with the army
of course. it's not as if you could sue them or anything. damned smug bastards
i think i am going to quit
ah, you are a civilian employee of the army?
NO dontlet them force you out, jobs are hard to come by
OK...I am off to play DVD bingo with the kids. Wishing you all a VERY HAPPY THANKSGIVING!!!!
i cannot take benadryl
u too
ty car, same to you
any antihistamine?
quitting now after getting the vax....
if it has "speed" in it to avoid drowsiness, i cannot take
a nurse at children's hospital here was fired for refusing h1n1 and it was upheld
it is an antihistamine - no speed
yes red, what is your point? i'm upset at the way they treated me. I got a formal written warning and got yelled at by two different unfiorms
I was not vaccinated last year, no problem.
monkey say and make their life miserable and be prepared for next year
sTay
Well, I guess it might have been better to wuit before getting the injection that you did not want.
I agree that you cannot just refuse in healthcare - but allergies are a different matter - the shot is not to protect you in that setting, it is to protect spread to vulnerable patients
but I did get really really sick.
i skipeed it since my arm already felt as if i had one - possible pinched nerve i am afraid
sounds like someone not understanding policies or making a power ploy - I would still file a formal complaint, if not with your company, the military has chains to go through
call OSHA - LOL
Good evening!
i'm going to contact the ACLU

he was, but left quickly
just add another letter to the last no 4,5
oh, bummer. I keep hoping to see him.
glad to see him pop in, I was worried about his eyes
thanks bugsaw!
what was wrong with his eyes?
hi stid. BR popped up to offer a clue and vanished again when I greeted him by name. I am feeling responsible. I am not sure what for; I am just feeling like I intimidated him
does he have bad eyes?
yes, he is losing his vision... thought when we didn't see him for a bit that it got too bad, but he clued well so clearly was seeing well enough to do that which is good
no, BR has been lurking more than chatting for several months. I miss him.
oh no, that's terrible
there are several who used to play regularly who no longer chat. *sad mama look* health problems and such.
how many f6?
Hello, hello, hello! What a wonderful word Hello!

evening all
hello molly!
ol5 acid - a chemical
hey pini

spanish cheer + frocen water
does he know how to enlarge the screen, and stuff like that? i'm thinking of my mom's partner who is blind, and she has a catalog from a place called lighthouse i believe it is, where you can get things to help with low vision
it makes me sad too stid. I feel like a friend is gone
ty
I just spent the day with Camo Boy! :)
ty -- monkeyed it
lighthouse for the blind
okay, time for me to go be in the kitchen some more. So much to do.

gosh, I'm sorry to hear about my buddy, BR!!! :(
what fun, pini! I'll wait to hear how that went before I leave...
i lurk more than chat these days
i suspect br knows how to work a computer fine... just may be tiring
Stid, I want to go over the river and through the woods to Grand Mere's house. Sounds like she puts on a fine Thanksgiving feast.
t6?
no t6
I think she does, Molly. We don't "do" thanksgiving ourselves.
there is no t6
ty
why featherbee? You were so nice to me when I first began.
HI PIni. May I ask who CamoBoy is?
lol, cause i suddenly turned into the wicked witch of the west? nahhh, more laziness really. i don't have time for the big grids now that school is in session again, so only come on for small easy ones like tonight. but i still peek in at least once a night.
ok, I am off - take your trun weed
k, soon kje
Camo Boy is my grandson! :) He's 15 months old now and walking up a storm!
no feather -- _i_ am the wicked witch of the west. you are the wicked witch of the east. *mental note to teach compass directions to the kindergartners*

yay wild!
did Koda play nicely with camo boy?
no just munchkins
YAY wildcat
I think that makes me the good witch of the south
tyvm and the best part was that I had ALL day to enjoy it
he sure did ;) Camo Boy thru the ball several times for Koda...and he complied by bringing it back to him :)
* proud Nonna *
I think maybe BR is just being shy -- OR could be there is weather in his part of the world. *concerned witch look* maybe a house fell on him???
I'm grabbing Wicked Witch of The South before someone else takes it. SURRENDER DOROTHY!!!
excellent! Koda is training him well then!
*grins at molly*
I thot Glinda the Good was from the east too kje so you all are safe and practically perfect in every way, like Mary Poppins
hold everything there, kje, "good" witch? nahhhhhhh!
If all the other directions are taken, I'll snag Glinda...Good Witch of the North! :)
owch

gee, thx, weed!! LOL
*snicker snicker*
I was beginning to wonder if I stunned everyone into silence by saying I wasn't cooking...
nahh, they probably just didn't know what to say after i made the boobies comment
I'm here Pini and I have cooked and baked enough for the two of us.
Molly you still here?
Hello Cos, hello. How are you doing, hello.

Hello. Buy a porsche.
hello folks
Yes, but I don't have the problems normally associated with prettiness... because, when I was a child, I looked like Ed McMahon.
Hello. Do you mind? Hello. We're working. Hello.
Darryl Hannah was exceptional in that movie. And I don't normally care for her.
Agreed.
david whatshisname is a very underrated actor.
Paymer, David Paymer. I love him. AT&T - were tired of taking your crap!
Yes I want a hand ***. Buy a Jaguar.
Hi Xcelle!
I am not enjoying this grid...must be too tired...
Hi Jilly. Me + tired = Not enjoying much of anything.
Kinda have a headache as well....life is starting to drag me down..
Sending good karma and warm thoughts to Jilly
thanks (((hugs))
This time of year, with the dark and the cold and the holiday hoo-hah can drag you down.

Thanks stiddy!
I'm guessing it's the co4/8 you need. That one is tricksy.

it's like a to 4 that shows up occasionally
No problem. I had to earn my place at the table for the chicken pot pie.

*Making coffee to have with Feather's pies*
Feather, crust for those pies? If so, what kind?
oh yeah, graham cracker crust!
Off to add that to my recipe file. My kids LOVE Reese's. My son and girlie-in-law named their cat Reese.
hi everyone! just saw a picture of a chocolate pecan pie...good thing i don't have all the ingredients!
this pie is SO incredibly yummy too. sinfully yummy, you'd think i slaved over it.
guys, I couldn't find a word tonight if my life depended on it!!
those are the best kind, weed
Jilly, make yourself a cuppa something hot and thaw your brain. they'll come to you.
my classroom aide gave me the recipe. i'd been having it for years when she'd bring it to events for school, and always loved it.
mmmm. maybe tom and the boys will do the choc pecan pie again tomorrow...
I will be making a french silk pie....we potluck with a friend of mine, so no one person has to shoulder it all...will do turkey and rosemary yams tomorrow!
thanks dawg...temps sure dropped as soon as sun went down..
Feather, full sized Reese's cups, or the minis?

Stid, I try to steer clear of the news. It can be a real downer most days. I'm better off trying to channel positive energy into the world.

hi Johannah
words for puzzle:
smile, hilt, fart, trail, rams, mart, mile, male, turf
johannah, it's considered bad form to type clues into the chat log
most people want to find the words themselves
sorry just trying to be helpful
understandable. we try to give clues instead of entering the whole word
ok
back again for a few...
hi all ;)
hey pini
hi LA ;)
everyone having a good evening?
(afternoon or morning)
anyone need clues?
hi pini and la
hi lbd ;)
Hello all.
hi jac
hi jac
Pini, I've just been having a giggle, reading the things in your bio.
they're fun, eh? * wink *
did ya wince? LOL
Happy Thanksgiving to you lot over The Pond, btw.
Pini - re the wax one? Yes!

?
ru5 (not in the city)
I didn't have the best of days, lbd - cat had thrown up when I got up and I almost trod in it, treemen were cutting down my favourite weeping willow in a neighbour's garden and I had a letter from the bank to say I was overdrawn. Other than that, I'm fine! LOL
ahhhhh! and just got the iz on my own. two left.
lower row O or E?

el4
got the E
os5 - I think there was once a band called os5 tentacles.

ty, was having a hard time with that one!
have nbt!
Well done, feather.
yeah! well done, weed ;)
ok, 40 left, getting list
you can do it!
feather - just yell if you need any clues.
k
how about the fr6?
fr6 = rhymes with South American country
thanks!
yvw ;)
fr6/42 is like a South American country or a type of nut but with a different first letter.
GMTA Jac ;)
down to 22
Yes, Pini. That word comes originally from the Latin 'fax', which means 'torch'. I'm so glad I did Latin at school. The classics (Latin and Greek) have been mostly dropped now in UK schools. There's a campaign to bring them back.
I don't think Latin is taught here anymore...if it is, it's rare!
I was watching a discussion about it on TV the night before last. The one who didn't want classics brought back was saying that Bengali and Mandarin would be more useful in schools these days. I disagree!
my gdau is learning Mandarin and Spanish...
si7 please?
Even a basic knowledge of Latin and Greek helps you to understand word roots from many languages.
si7 = like another
si7...alike
feather - si7 - is 'like' something else.
good point, jac...since many have roots in those languages
hi mbg
ty
* mgb
hi
hey, and so is the si6, sort of!
new around these parts?
you got it, weed ;)
yes...just started the other day.
well, welcome aboard!
click on my blue B icon for a beginner's guide, if you haven't already figured out the basics
Welcome mgb. Be warned - this game is very addictive.
* resistance is futile! *
thanks. i have found that to be true already.
and fireworks
wtg weed!! :)
Oh dear, mgb! Hooked already? *evil cackle*
whooo hoooooo weed!!
Well done, Feather!*~*~*~*~*
welcome mgb!
I am afraid so. Weird words though?
playing babble definitely increases one's vocabulary!
mgb - you get used to them. So much so that you miss normal words in the end, 'cos you find the weird ones more easily.
IF you know what the mean or take the time to look them up
Well, looking them up helps use them in conversation...which I don't do much, but there do tend to be a lot of repeats!
Pini - I thought Readers' Digest was the place to 'increae your vocab.' LOL
*increaSe
I love RD!!!!
I do wish this chog would include an edit button! I don't think we're getting on in the new version either, are we?
*onE* SIGH! See what I mean? LOL
The new version is getting a lot of really cool (and helpful) bells and whistles...not sure when Dr. G will unveil it tho
maybe it'll be our Xmas pressie!
Pini - I was in his latest pic of it on FB twice! *Jumps and twirls like an over-excited prom queen.*
I think Dr_G will roll it out for 2011.
* sigh * I noted many...missed me! :)
LOL, Pini. Maybe next time?
* perk * maybe!
ack - I think dinner's burning...brb
*Collapses back into chair after prom queen activity.* I'm not made for all that twirling and bouncing. LOL
OOPS!
* sigh of relief * nope...it's ok!
how's the chair???
What is it, Pini?
Chair's fine, you cheeky madam. I'm not that fat! LOL
Chicken Alfredo...
...just the noodles and sauce are finishing...took the chicken out...will mix together when all are ready to go...and then down the hatch with all of it!
I was wondering how you left a chicken and pasta dish to do on its own...
well...unfortunately, it's not from scratch...noodles/sauce are frozen together and I cooked some frozen chicken to add to it...
I don't cook from 'scratch' much anymore now that the kids are gone and I'm here one my own...
Oh!:-((( I thought I'd found another 'proper cook'. LOL
...it tends to be too much trouble cooking for just one.
Not a chance here, jac!
howdy all:) back from the bi-monthly grocery shopping...ouch! :((
hi crossy
Pini - then don't cook for one. Cook for 2, 4 or 6 and freeze the leftovers.
Hiya Crossy. Why the ouch?
even that's a lot!
I do do that for spaghetti tho
Pini - half an hour or 20 mins spent cooking meals that will freeze will save you lots of time and effort in the end.
expensive, but i have the makings for a nice chicken cordon bleu, a veal parm dinner and a roast of beef that will do a few meals including a nice home made beef and barley soup;)
Oh, I don't cook everything frozen...I do actually some things...just not a lot all the time...
nice, crossy!
Crossy - did all the old ladies looking for a bargain jab you with their walking sticks and zimmer frames? Or did they stamp on your toes with their heavy old lady shoes?
lol,it is ten pm here jackula, all the old laides have done their shopping ,washed their doilies and have been in bed for hours;)
See, Pini - Crosst knows how to shop cheaply and to cook.
crossy, you cook for one???
So, Crossy, the students came out of their i-pod induced comas and whacked you with their cell phones?
all the men in my family take cooking classes early on in life..i cook for 3
care to add one more? * puppy eyes *
Crossy cooks for two, methinks. But I was talking about getting meat and vegs at a good price and knowing how best to cook them, and make meals that freeze well.
I'll to do more research, jac...
you have to shop smart and get more than a single night out of what you cook,or go broke buying food
Pini - anything you want to know, just ask.
crossy - that's true!
One big chicken, or two small ones, if that comes cheaper, is a good start.
Perhaps we need to have a Babble Recipe Exchange blog somewhere...
or when beef is on sale,we can get a roast in around the 8 dollar range and get 3 meals for 3 out of it
Don't buy pre-cooked, pre-prepared or pre-chopped stuff. And NEVER buy convenience meals - which are full of salt, sugar, preservatives.
I don't like fast food...it makes me nauseous...and never tastes very good at all...
Crossy is right - a big piece of beef brisket, cooked slowly can do 3 meals for a family of 4.
...besides...I know I can make a healthier meal or two for the cost of one fastfood meal
Pini - MrP did start one of those, but it didn't go anywhere. However, if you look on BabAnon - there are lots of recipes.
i do a full dinner with taters and veggies and yorkie pudding on night 1,then hot roast beef sandwiches with gravy on night 2 and make a soup or stew on night 3
I make my pulled pork in the crock pot...
I'll check 'em out, jac
hi Everybody.
howdy nef
hi nef
very resourceful, crossy ;)
Hey crossy, I'm finally folding! :-)
What the hell is 'pulled pork'? Clueless Brit asking here.
Hi Nef.
yaa for nef!!!!!
welcome to the front line of research for hunting for a cure for cancer!!!
pulled pork is a boneless spareribs cooked for a few hours in the crock pot; when finished, "pulled" apart using 2 forks and then covered in BBQ sauce...great for sandwiches!!!
(especially if you add a little coleslaw, too)
Interesting! If there's no bone they're not spare RIBS. LOL
It took a while; but now there's a Mac on board too. (I had the worst time finding the download; 1st 2-3 times I tried, nothing happened when I hit the download button
Rib meat them.
* giggle *
*theN
Pork shoulder is good for pulled pork too
hi tabby
Hi tabby. Now I DO understand the term pork shoulder. LOL
Hi
i also have pork schnitzel for 3 on one night:)
tabbycat? I know a nurse on a private nursing bard with that name.
I'm going to make a pot of Pumpkin Soup on Friday ... it will last the weekend and 1-2 next week for lunches at work ;)
I work in the medical field..in coding though
a nurse named tabbycat?
that was supposed to be BOARD; not bard
Nef - I kinda guessed that.
Pini - I wish I liked pumpkin, since it's so cheap, but I don't. Can't stand yams (sweet potatoes) either.
Crossy - obviously it's not Taby's real name! LOL
that was her online name.
You'd be surpised with this soup, jac...can't really tell it's actually pumpkin...it's served over rice, too ;)
it's very creamy and rich and is Mmmmmm...good
Tabby might like to know why you're named after a gun sight, Crossy. And don't mention shooting bunny wabbits!
heading for the pillows, happy thanksgiving everyone.
Pini - put your recipe in my thread on BabAnon.
night lbd...you, too!!!
'Nigh lbd. Sleep well!
okey dokey
Thanks, Pini. Will check it out later.
if you try it, let me know what you think...
Will do.
Doubt I'll see a pumpkin here in UK until next October, though.
it actually used pumpkin puree (and that can be purchased in a can like for pumpkin pies)
(found in the baking aisle)
It can in USAm Pini, but probably not in UK.
oh, gotcha
I'm trying to think what aisle the (men) that mostly control where food goes in UK supermarkets would put pumpkin puree. Not in the baking aisle, I would guess. More likely in the tiny bit at the back that only TESCO does for 'foreign goods'.
I do wish UK supermarkets would use women to do the logic of what goes where in the aisles.
interesting...I would have thought they'd put it with the other pie fillings...
but that makes too much sense, jac, putting things in the store logicallyh
Pumpkin isn't a pie filling here in UK. It's something you carve a face in for Halloween.
-h
you mean pumpkin pies aren't as common as apple, cherry, peach, etc???
wow...will wonders never cease
Supermarkets making sense of any kind, would be a first. Once, we had the Co-Op ( a farmers' co-operative) and then we had ASDA (another farmers' co-operative) and both worked really well. However, the Co-Op has blended with some cheapo supermarket chain or other and ASDA got taken over by WALMart.
Pini - No. Now stop being sarcastic. LOL
Sorry, Jac ;)
the babanon page isn't loading ;(
Consider yourself reprimanded, Pini, and go and stand in the naughty corner for 2 mins. LOL
* sulking * yes, ma'am
Oh. is BabAnon going slow again? It was doing that day bbefore yesterday.
Lol, Pini.
I don't know who's paying for BabAnon now or if it will continue once the new form of Babble comes along. I have saved all my recipe thread just in case.
SWMBO - who first began BabAnon hasn't been seen on here in years.
I'm a moderator on there, as is Stidmama. Maybe she knows more than me about it.
Error Message: The connection has timed out. The server at p105.ezboard.com is taking too long to respond.
I didn't realize it was a paid-for site...
...thought it was more like a free blog
Yes, Pini. Babblers have kept it going for 5 years now.
back..i am not named after a gun sight,i am named after a angry rabbit lol
didn't know that!
pretty impressive
swmbo has popped up off and on in the last year
Crossy - if I believe that, I'll believe anything!
wb crossy; hi jilli
lol
Hello all
jillibus - Hello. Are you telling me she's died?
No way, jac, lol!
popped UP, not OFF
Koda's needing "a moment" outside...brb!
So nice to see you again jillibus. Sorry I annoy you so much a lot of the time. xx
jilli - phew! I'm glad she's not gone, but I must have missed her popping up.
Pini - okay.
hello all - Happy T Day eve
Hi TNC.
It's the time zone problem with swmbo, who is in Nova Scotia.
oh yea, happy turkey day to those down south:)
jilli - Ah! I see now.
Will BabAnon continue when the new form of Babble comes out? I do hope it will.
I'm confused about this Thanksgiving thing. Who celebrates it and when?
ours is in october
US celebrates on the 4th THursday of November
In Canada, 2nd monday in Oct, in US 4th thursday in Nov
hey, yall!
howdy dc
back
wb pini
It's the same as our Harvest Festival, I imagine - anywhere between October and November, depending on the region?
The US Thanksgiving celebrates the friendship between the pilgrims and the indians...
(originally)
hi, crossy, pini, jac tea, et al
yes, it's a harvest festival, jac
hi dc ;)
brb..semi-poof
Pini - there wasn't much evidence of the friendship between the pilgrims and the native Red Indians when I studied the history.
well, it went away, too
yeah, we celebrate it that way, but most likely it didn't really happen that way
Having said that, what governments do and what real people do are quite different.
I think it was related more to a small group...
true that, jac
Thank you, dcs.
in wartime (WW2) there was "Franksgiving" -- FDR's idea. Before the year 1939 Thanksgiving was on the last Thursday of November. Sometimes this meant it landed on the 29th or 30th of November, which was actually the 5th Thursday. See http://www.associatedcontent.com/artic le/435676/thanksgiving_or_franksgiving .html?cat=37
jilli - thanks for that info.
never heard of Franksgiving...interesting
Pini - teddy Roosevelt.
I remember it well -- was living in NY at the time. Lots of scorn, as for much of what FDR did. (Are you listening, Barack?)
interesting, jilli, ty for that
Glad to supply a bit of American history to Americans, lol!
he seems not to listen well, jilli :/
In wartime tea was rationed. AARGH! Imagine that in our house. No wonder my Gran dried her teabags out in the 70s and served tead that tasted like 'gnat's p*ss'!
Oh, I remember the president (from history class), but haven't heard the franksgiving term before
I think he listens better than people give him credit for.
mayhap, jilli
Let's hope, dc.
He listens, but can he, or will he be allowed, to respond as he might like to?
Right on, Jac.
The world of politics is a shark-filled tank that even those with the best of intentions might get sucked up, chewed up and spat out in.
There was an intersting article i a local paper today, about how hard it is for someone to get through the political tangle.
Link to it please?
Oh, I'll try...
What I would like to know is who is it that runs the secret services in both our great countries? It's not the President, Prime Minister or Queen.
So, who are these people who do what they do and commit murder etc., for 'our good'?
The US Secret Service was under the Dept of Treasury, but is now under the Dept of Homeland Security.
my dad was Secret Service
Jilli, did you ever see Art Buchwald's essay explaining Le Jour de Merci Donnant? LOL
dcs - see - they change so you can never find out.
http://digital.timescolonist.com/epape r/viewer.aspx
here's a link: http://www.paris-savannah.com/
my mother, who gets Dad's retirement benes since he died, is a retiree of the District of Columbia, so it's quite confusing indeed, jac
dcs - I think 'they', whomever they are, intend it to be confusing.
I hoope that link was the right one. An MLA is a Member of the Legislative Assembly (I think)
Une, I don't think so -- loved Art Buchwald (he lived in Forest Hills, as I did long ago -- never met him though)
did you see the link I just posted?
I was living in paris when I first read it -- one of the funniest things EVER
Kilometres Deboutish LOL!!
Yes, that was very funny une, ty for the link
Jilli - I got the link from Une, but what an interesting story.
:-D
Anyone need any grid clues, btw?
UNE -- that's hilarious!
JAC -- my link, before une's is NOT THE SAME
I agree!!
gonna put out the trash and check the ma4. bbs
later, seain
I'm only just over halfway in this grid -- didn't have time today.
ttfn dc
Jilli - I know, but I can't make your link work.
Clues anyone?
I wondered, jac. Oh well. I'll try another way.
fr6? my last one.
(sorry...was on the phone with dau)
Incidentally, Jilli, try tinyurl.com for your links in future. Once you've got it, get it in your'view toolbars'.
LeslieAnn - fr6 rhymes with a South African contry and a type of nut. Change first letter.
*Country, I meant.
oh, south american. thank you jac, fireworks!
y/w LA and well done! *~*~*~*~*~*
Why did I say South African??
*About to Google a South African country that begins with BR.*
Jac, I know about tinyurl and already have it on my toolbar. Try this: http://tinyurl.com/6as3wu It still may not work -- it links to the Victoria Times-Colonist digtal edition, to which I subscribe.
There probably is one1
Jilli - you need to put the tiny url on a line of its own in the chog.
http://tinyurl.com/6as3wu
That just takes me to a pag where I have to work out where to find what I want to read.
I still think it won't work
*pagE
The article at the top about MLAs
Sorry, Jilli.
You have to click on the magnifying glass down below to enlarge it, and then manoevre to the right spot.
Never mind.
Okay, I'll try that. This is like one of those hidden object games. LOL.
top of the right-hand page.
No, it won't let me click on the magnifying glass.
Try e-mailing it to me, Jilli.
I wil have to go soon; Other Half will be up for work and then my daughter's arriving for breakfast about 11am , just back from Poland before she has to go off to Amsterdam at about 2pm. Then we have her graduation ceremony and then she's off to Norway.
She is doing a year's travelling, but in bits and coming home for mummy hugs in between. I dread to think what her carbon footprint for the year will be. Having said that, she's not in her own home using gas, electricty etc., so I guess it evens out.
Many thanks to the kind Polish lady, probably a Mumm my daughter told me,since she looked about my age and cuddly, who even though she didn't have a word of English, realised that my daughter hadn't got a clue what was being said, nor could read anything re train station in Warsaw. She took her to the right platform for her ticket, then came back to get her when the tannoy announcement said the train was arriving at a different platform. Don't know who you were kidn Polish lady, but many thanks.
*Kind Polish lady, I meant.
As for my daughter's description of recognising 'A Mum' - not sure whether to laugh or cry. :-( or :-).
trash out, cat fed, cocktail made. Life is good
And a Polish immigrant to Canada with no English was bewidlered and kept waiting at the airport for hours, frstrated and looking for help, then eventually tasered by the RCMP and killed. While his mother waited for him.
Sounds great, dc :)
how awful, jilli :(
sounds like she's having fun, jac
jilli - I know. That's why I was so happy to see my daughter being looked after by a Polish Mum when last week she'd been in Auschwitz-Birkenau seeing and feeling all the horror. See her photos on Facebook.
It was awful, dc, and there are suitable (?) repercussions.
dcs - sometimes fun, but mostly following her history and politics stuff from Uni. She wants to see, rather than just read about it.
way cool, jac
I'm going to change my icon -- see y'all later
be well, jilli
Amsterdam is fun - meeting up with 2 Aussie blokes who nearly destroyed her liver for more drinking + seeing museums. Art (since she was once an art student) and The Jewish History Museum and the Ann Frank Museum (if she can get up early enough to be early in the queue).
I knwo 'Dam and so have told her where to stay and where to go etc.
if she listens...
*know
yes, if :)
this cocktail was improved with shaking rather than stirring.
no shaker was available when i created it, but happily i have one here at hoe
home
'Bye jillibus.
'm wondering what Jili's link is about. It must be modern times, since the boy was 'tasered'.
When I said 'I know' to her post, I hadn't read it properly. I thought she was talking back in WWII. I see now that she wasn't.
Good evening to my fellow babblers! How is everyone?
By the way, congratulations to all the finishers! YAY!
East Europeans, Poles included, haven't always conducted themselves well lately either in their own country or in other countries. Drugs, pimping and murder are too easy earners for some. But let's not tar all with the same brush.
Hi Min.
ty for the BR south america clue
hi, minver
Has it been a quiet evening here in Babbleland Jacula?
Fairly quiet, Min. Don't think I've upset anyone yet! LOL
rather quiet tonight.
i noticed that about a third of my neighbors appear to be travelling for the holiday already.
Well then I guess my story of clues is not needed here
My sis-inlaw, or rather ex, since I am now divorced, but she is bro-inlaw's 2nd wife who he married after I was divorced, so is she still current to me? is Romanian. She absolutely hates Roma Gypsies, but is adopted and, by her physical appearance, is a Roma Gypsy by birth.
So, what's that all about?
back...have 43 left...oh dear
She once worked as a translator over here in UK and actively turned them away. I don't agree with that.
Romani and Romanians are not the same
Hello Jillyjill! How are you doing?Welcome to the puzzle
when people are of, or descended of, a disliked minority, they oft turn against said minority
hi, JJ
I'm here if you need any clues to get fireworks Jilllyjill
dcs - she is from Transylvania. She is A Romany Gypsy.
ah, spelled in English with a Y. Ty, never seen the word in English before
She even has 'the sight', though she denies it. But she can't help herself showing it sometimes.
that's rather sad
I have the sight, so I can see it in her.
Well, she was adopted as a 3-year-old, so we don't know what went before, dcs.
dcsean, did you find work???
I have an idea what went on before, but given my age and experience, I don't know if it's instinct or my imagination.
Hello weiik! How are you doing? Welcome to the grid!
not yet, weiik, ty for asking
ru5/12 please?
dcs - Oh! Out of work? I didn't know. Sorry, I stealth Babble a lot of the time now.
Jillyjill - in the country.
An ru5/12 word describes a place that is urban Jillyjill
Jillyjill - 'in the country'.
i've been out of work since lat Aug 09
ahhh...gotta watch those curves...slap
ru 5/12 word describes a place that is in the country
Min - you meant not urban, methinks?
My husband has been out of work since November '09
Bloody Hell, dcs. I am out of touch.
Me thinks you are right Jacula, hence the clue change
the economy sucks, and the gov't numbers -- new unemployment filings -- does not at all reflect the reality on teh street
Incredible that someone with as much talent as dc is out of work
my he find something soon, minver
ty, jilli.
what are his skills, min?
I think my step daughter just realised what 'recession' means when she held her Chrristmas lisst aloft before us earlier.
Thanks dcseain and you too! It's a tough job market!
Farmville jillibus
i've been focusing on the federeal sector. Thus far, one interview, for which i was one of twenty-five, out of seven thousand applicants, selected for round one.
He's a farmer, min? (I haven't played that FB game)
LOL jac
She even went so far as to suggest that my ex-husband might buy what she desired, "'Cos he's made of money and owns a business and drives a flash car'. Actually, he cut my income (I work for him still) by half, he cut off our son's allowance, he no longer owns a car but drives his 2nd wife's car. I could say more, but won't.
He used to inspect oil tanks for insurance companies.
My d-i-l doesn't understand Xmas -- I asked her for some ideas for odds & ends to unwrap on Xmas morning -- she came up with gift certificates for yoga clothing, magazine subscriptions, etc, all expensive.
He is looking into taking a class to learn a trade. It is all about the money now. I'm hoping he gets some aid.
Stepdaughter finally got the picture and then asked , 'How ling will the recession thingey go on?'
For years, probably, said I.
*LOng
yes, years yet as it seems :/
sigh, jilli
glad you understand, dc ;-)
i need to find some reasonable, inexpensive, things for my nephews.
How old, dc?
4 and 11
Toys are still good then, no?
Jilli - I understand that, too. Only token gifts this Christmas, I said. But I've still got people asking for things costing about £30.
likely a well-chosen Wii game :)
But something for a 31-yr-old grandson...???
No Wii games for a fiver. When I said token gifts, I did mean cheap.
jilli - buy him a bar of his favourite chocolate.
Oh, I was thinking really small, dc, like a wooden train set for a 4-yr-old, or even Dinky toys, but then maybe those are too out-of-date.
More like a case of beer, Jac.
they have all the wooden, and HO trains anyone could ever need, and a large room to use them in at their grandparents' home
the elder one especially is big into the trains
That might cost a bit more than a fiver, Jilly. Just get him something you can afford that you know he will use or appreciate.
hint for si7, pls?
extra cars or accessories for the trains?
dcs - si7 is 'like another'.
ty. i even had the 6 :)
si7/32:the grid is si***** to yesterday's grid in that it is small dcseain.
I have a story of clues in my profile if anyone needs it
I'm off now. Other Half is up for work, so I need to sleep before my daughter arrives.
See you all next grid.
I can't be bothered with this grid -- have learned to say phooey.
Bye jac.
Goodbye Jacula! I'll see you tomorrow in the chat log.
g'night jac
It is SO easy with the list.Got 60 on my own and then I finished with the list.In fact, this was so easy that I accidentally entered last word before I could save it.
I should have some time tomorrow -- bridge game cancelled because of the horrible weather we've been having, with more to come.
i've stopped finishing most.
i'm using list, and thing i'll find the last 18 tonight, though
You definitely will.Hoping tomorrow's grid is also small
I have 53 to go -- didn't have time today -- lots of errands to do before getting snowed in again -- just got dug out today.
