tom's in borderline heartfailure, yet hopkins says he needs not a transplant.
go, go dee
why do they say that dc?
they want to try another myectomy or an alcohol ablation first. :/
mind you last myectomy failed 6 weeks post-op
probably because of insurance protocol... nuts..
sorry to hear the frustrating news
so, longer road at Hopkins than at VCU, and yes, ins protocol. Why would they want to pay for a repeat of o procedure that costs 80% of what a transplant would before a transplant when that procedure has failed once already, and repeating does not usually result in a positive result either.
oh, good hopes for Tom!

hi, sprit, west, vanilla, et al.
hi dcseain
just learned that cosdem and i have grandparents from the same country -- Czechoslovakia, both sides in both our cases.
hello seain..can't sleep?
it's a small world
that's very cool have you ever been there?
indeed. been doing laundry and dishes and vacuuming furniture so as not to wake the downstair neighbors whom i know when to bet around 10.
not yet, west, and i have relatives still somewhere near Prague, if i can find them. Letter stopped coming from them in 1956 with the gov't crackdown there.
i do want to see the church in Bratislava where my great-great-grandparents married.
that's too bad..should be easier now though
indeed. i need to contact my great uncle andy to see what more he can tell me, as his father was my great-grandfather from near Prague whom i never met.
old oa5 bucket in the song, yes?
I've seen pictures and watched travelogues on PBS what a gorgeous country
how dear to my heart are the scenes of my childhood ...
i posted a few scenes of my childhood on Flickr and Facebook today. EVen had a school friend of my sister's ping and ask if i were her brother.
that's funny did you look alike?
no. she got the blond hair of mom's family with dad's family's olive skin. I got dark brown hair and pail yellowish skin. Our faces are similar if one's looking, but superficially we do not look alike. pix on my flickr, linked in my profile here
going to look
her elder son resembles me quite a lot though. We share behavior traits too, which drives her batty, and makes life a little harder for him, poor guy.
good morning everybody
morning, ruby
hey rubyfoo :)
Who is the blue bird, sprite?
hello sprite and seain and westford (if she's still here)
how's the husband today?
she is, she's looking at some pix i put in my flickr today, of my sister, parents, and house i grew up in.
he seemed OK by last night and never would talk about it.....
west is still here, just buried into pictures I think.
just let it go th4, rubyfoo.
exactly!
:)
back in a minute
how're you doing, sprite?
I am fine, thank you
glad to hear :)
good morning everyone, can I please have a clue for the 8s
hi Jjenny, I only have one so far. Pr8, make believe, faking it.

hi dizgrannie :)

hey Sprite!

so, lovely seeing yall, and g'night, g'day, and happy babbling! {poof}
got the 2nd one - can you clue the first one again please
good night/day/morn, DC
Jenny, gifts
Jjenny: one is plural gifts, the other is a kind of arrogantly faking it. Claiming you are something you are not.
thats the one I've got dizgrannie, its the other one I'm stuck on.
Got it thanks very much
Jjenny: P + again prefix + stressed
yvw :)

I had one of the most awful dreams ever last night. Am still a bit shaken. Dreams can be powerful, can't they.
my pr8 is that I'm tall!
you need a big hug to get over that dream, sprite!
hello dizgrannie
yeah I do. But nobody to get it from, lol. Kids are still asleep and my love is at work.
*hopeful look around babble*
{{{{sprite}}}}
thanks :)

.
Hello....anybody home?
*searching around*
BRB with breakfast for all!
Is there something great I am missing? A concert? A party?
maybe everyone fell asleep at their 'puters!!
Hi cece! Finally I have some company. How are you?
i m well how 'bout you?
Doing well. Must hop in shower and leave for work in 30 min.
But eating yogurt with fresh blueberries now.
i'm at work already - eating breakfast and babbling!
I sometimes have time to Babble when at work.
sick kids probably don't offer much time to babble.
Nope, and I am usually behind with typing chart notes, etc.
do you do all that on the computer now?
Yep--EHR--electronic health records. We started 15 mo ago and I am slowly improving. So far it slows me down but I am becoming more efficient as I become familiar.
I've had several docs tell me the same thing, especially those who have been practicing for a while. My opthamologist still won't join in!
Some specialties use diagrams more than typing--ophth, derm, etc
Well, at 105/138 I must move my butt off the couch now. Enjoy the day.
be safe
hi all
can anyone clue the A in the first column please
ak4/8 and plural ... it's a caribbean fish dish

Annie, I hope to reply to your email today. Is it a fast one? I am just starting
Mom, no rush..tomorrow is another day
always seems like something to do or some place to go
That's good, you dont want to sit around, except when you babble, of course
and that has only been in the morning while I have my breakfast.
I do hope all is well with you
MOooom and Anie
How are Ziggy and Annie?
(((Herin))))hello dear
ZIggy and Annie are just fine. Annie will be here tomorrow
Hi Herin :)
I just wanted to say a quick hello as well.
(((Haz))) hello, I have missed seeing you. How have you been?
Haz, what a lovely picture. I am so glad the wedding went well
I've been well. Have a look at my profile for more pics on flickr.
Haz, good afternoon, I havent opened my mail as yet. I see that I have some pictures, will open them later..have been neglecting my mail..
brb, will go look
Haz, have you recovered from the festivities yet?
Hello, Annie. Yes, I'm back to full working order again.
How are you?
But happy memories will always be with you.
Absolutely, it was a great day and not a drop of rain which was a blessing in itself.
Morning all. Hi Haz, nice to see you. Lovely pictures.
Good Morning Everyone
I've had a bad summer cold..laid me up for a few days but coming around now.
just pe**ing at your photos Haz - they are wonderful. What a great day for your family.
Hi River and Molly
Hi River
Hi Haz
good morning everyone:)
Hello, Molly. I'm waiting with baited breath to see what the official photographer comes up with and in the meantime I'm gathering up the amateurs' efforts.
Hi crossy :)
(((Annie))) I had the same bad summer cold.
Hello herin, crossy.
the pictures are great, Haz. What a lovely family
Gosh Haz you and your daughter look very much alike. HiCrossie and Molly
Hi Molly
good morning ((River)) how was vacation?
howdy haz,annie ,herin et al
((Crossy)) good morning
Thanks, Mom.
((mom))
Haz, where are they honeymooning
((Mom)) havent seen you in a while - vaca was great all around - weather, fun in the sun, swimming, no distractions
excellent River, glad it was a good time
They're spending a few days in Navan, Co Meath in the south of Ireland.
I have in and out a lot here lately. Seems to only be time to babble for a short while in the morning
I hope they have a lovely time Haz
I havent been able to spend much time either lately
And right on cue, here comes Soodle, who is in Navan as I type!! Hi Haz, Mom, River, Crossy Molly and anybody I forgot.
oh no, work getting in the way?
((Soodle)) hello.
howdy soodles
Hi Soodle
((Soodle)) how are you?
Wouldn't it be a laugh if you spotted them, Soodle?
daken
oops
if only if was a word Crossy
Navan...forward and backward...it's still Navan. Happy vacationing Soodle.
Haz, I'll keep my eyes peeled for any 'lurved-up' couples.
work has been busy - and kids keeping me hoping. Keith just finished his summer soccer league and soccer camp. Next week is high school tryouts. Sarah is leaving in two weeks for college so doing alot of dorm shopping.
Just tell them you play babble and they'll understand.
oh River, I hope you do well with the college move
thanks Mom - already getting teary eyed
my mom and I were talking yesterday about the different things going on in the world and mom said I would probably get a more accurate account from the babblers than we would get on the news
I feel for you River
I think your Mom is absolutely right about that
I agree with your Mom, Mom. The news tends to sensationalize everything.
my mom, she is one smart lady
The images of London etc are frightening, but don't run away with the idea that the whole place is up in smoke. We used to have people imagine that Northern Ireland was one big battle-zone and it just wasn't true.
it finally made the newspaper here, just this morning
morning all how many words today thanks
Hi Steve
I'm not saying that what has happened isn't dreadful, but it's more contained than it looks.

Hi Steve 243 words

Hi, Eva. How's dad today?
still stable. still in ICU, though we expect them to move him to a regular room today or tomorrow. he is on a liquid diet, and this morning they had him sitting in a chair. sounds like he is on the mend. :)
Excellent! Best wishes for quick healing. Liquid diet. Blah.

Hiya, Crossy!
Are there any dw words?
no car - and hello
Good morning River! T Y!
there is an iw word though
good morning Babble friends!
Hiya, car and River!
howdy judi and car
Hi Judi! Hi Crossy!
No dw words today (thank God).
I got 6 out of the 7 corner D words right off the bat. Just wanted to finish it.
W's whipped!
Yeah!
Down to 65. I think it's time for a break.
I would think so!
Well, it you want me to leave...
Not at all!
Hey, Molly -- I set a Hav-A-Heart trap last night for my cat. This morning, the trap was sprung, but the unknown critter got away. Of course, I missed a step in the cage set-up instructions. That strange noise was me bashing my head against the cage at 5:00 this a.m.
judi, does this mean you have seen your cat but just cant get her to come in?
Oh no, Judi! Kitty is missing?
No, River. Haven't seen her since the evening of Aug. 2nd.
oh....was hoping for good news
I am so sorry. I just went through this last week, but it was only overnight.
I have been down your road too many times.
Glad you got your kitty back, car. I've been beside myself since she disappeared.
you have alerted all the neighbors to look I assume. Are any away that might have a garage / shed that kitty could be in ?
<--- got the other D!
Posters up all over the place. Flyers in all the mailboxes. Alerts sent by Home Again. Jumping through flaming hoops here.
You are doing everything right. The waiting just totally stinks. Is kitty used to be outside?
Our other cat even stands at the back fence and meows for her.
crossy counts his cats... would be a disaster if on e got out hope you find your kitty judi
Good Kitty! I will keep you in my prayers, Judi.
Ty for everyones thoughts and good wishes. She had just started going out with the other cat. Never ventured farther than the hedgerows in the back yard.
ours are indoor cats only, but the younger make like a daily walk while wearing his harness
male
I'm very fearful that some wild critter (such as a fox) may have attacked & killed her.
Oh Judi. I know those fears. Try to stay positive.
When/if she comes home, she is NEVER going out again. Mommy cannot survive the angst.
It is horrible.
Okay. Can't talk about it anymore or I will start to cry. Gonna take that break. BBL. *POOF*
{[Judi}}
we have too many critters up here who would have no issues adding cats to the food chain,so ours stay in and have supervised outings
The only reason Dante gets out is "someone" does not make sure the door shuts behind her.
Any dh words?
no i think not, though i have not listed

ok, I am back, briefly - the dongle I am using to connect to the internet decided it needed to update its software AND its firmware. Sigh.
It's a terrible thing to have problems with your dongle. : P
I knew someone once who was having software and firmware problems with their dongle. Like I said, terrible thing. : P

trying to catch up with email I've missed over the past couple of days...
my son and I are at my dad's but I am thinking we should have waited a day or two to come - we left right after the O.P. hearing and he is melting down a bit.
What happened at the hearing Sue. I missed that news.
He decided not to pursue it - she's been staying away anyway and it seemed to him that having a full hearing wasn't worth the stress.
Is the melting down because he regrets that decision?

i would like to speak to the manager of our caf here at work, because i am WILDLY curious why they almost always cut the "handles" off the bananas they sell -- this makes them virtually impossible to peel open!
of course, today i managed to snag one WITH said handle, and i STILL had to use a knife to get it open.
kind of makes you wonder what the hell they are doing to our fruits and veeggies doens't it??
eating at the caf all the time must be $$$
are they adding chemicals that cause this ... like bananas... don t they ripen much more quickly than they used to??
eva, It is easier to peel a banana from the other end (opposite to where it attached to the bunch.
crossy -- i have been bringing lunch MUCH more frequently these days -- it saves me money AND helps me eat healthier (im down 10 pounds since starting WW!)
joansie -- never tried that, but i will have to next time!

hi ursh, don't know
... I was on ... earlier this morning ... and no one made any alarming comments
Hope they all OK - rioters are in my opinion little sh*** who need their backsides kicked and kicked hard
... yes ... you're right ... but I went through the G20 riots in Toronto last year ... and we found that the cops did a poor job on controling the rioters ... and an excessively bad and injudicous job on the legitmate protesters (none of which has anything to do with what's going on in England ... where it's just rioting for the fun of it)
rioting for the fun of it, was that what that was in England. OMG
seems like it peri - youngsters using f/book and twitter and planning which area to attack and loot
... I think it started because two of three cops beat up someone in Birmingham (?) ... but the rioting is mostly white skinheads looking for a new TV
we have had similar incidents on a smaller scale downtown. no idea why they do such things
mostly teens, seems to be a worldwide problem
... part of it is a complete lack of hope and no vision of the future ... ... there is a sizable group of kids out there who can't see anything beyond dinnertime tonight
they dont seem to be protesting about anything - just found that their police are only armed with batons and shields and are quite harmless to a crowd of looting kids
... you got it
<--- Agrees with Ursh about rioters.
I do too, hi Molly
good morning, I agree with ursh and dose also - too many of our kids don't see any future at all
In SA the police attack the rioters with teargas, rubber bullets and water cannons and the occasional live round
Not seeing any future does not justify looting and rioting, not in my book.
I agree Molly, but something needs to be done so it does not happen again.
of course not Molly - but look at those kids, something has been missed
... itdoesn't justify it at all ... but it does provide an explanation of why it happens
hi again, my connection is very flaky here, so if I vanish for a while (even in the middle of a conversation) please do not be offended :-)
I'm sorry but these are not revolutionaries trying to overthrow an unjust system. These are selfish, greedy young people stealing from members of their community. That isn't going to help their "angst" about having "no future".
I'm not speaking about angst, more of hopelessness
... absolutely ... but they don't understand that ... they haven't been given a properly functioning set of values by their parents or their communities ... ... so they're just out having a good time ... ... it doesn't matter to them what the rest of the community thinks or feels ... because they don't care
I agree Molly - they have full access to education and therefore full access to a future - they just chose not to take it
... they haven't been persuaded that they must choose ... ... I agree .. they should be put in a cage and the key should be lost ... ... but we may have a whole generation of these kids out there ...
with unemployment as high as it is here, I worry about people just graduating from school - unemployment among young people is close to twice the national average, I think - I worry about their future...
Kids have been growing up without a proper foundation for centuries. With parents that are absent, alcoholic, drug addicts or emotionally unstable. Sure it's a tough life, but thousands of kids have made it through such tough times without this kind of behavior.
... yup ... you're right ... but we have all been taught to think about the future for the past few centuries ... ... a lot of these kids can't see past dinner time ... there is no future ... there are no consequences ... they don't care ... it's "me" and "now" ... ... ... please, I'm not justifying ... their behaviour is unjustifiable ... I merely suggest why it may be happening ... ...
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/debate/arti cle-2024284/UK-riots-2011-Liberal-dogm a-spawned-generation-brutalised-youths .html
yes - I think there is a big difference between making excuses for bad behaviour (for which there is no excuse) and looking into what might be some of the reasons behind it
interesting article... goes along with the topic, I think...
sure does amelu
oops, phone call
Well, my take on this is that "knowing why" someone behaves as they do, does nothing about the problem. (Knowing why someone is an alcoholic does not get them rehabilitated). The focus needs to shift from the "whys" of the behavior to constructive ways to make it better.
perhaps not, but understanding the root causes of alcoholism may help someone else from becoming an alcoholic in the first place
... but if you haven't figured out why ... how can you do anything? ... you are likely to fix the wrong problem ...
and I am saying you need to do both, not that one is a substitute for the other
... of course ... ... the only reason for looking for a 'reason" is to try to ensure that you end up doing something that works ... and with luck doesn't merely replace the problem with another ...
Of course you need to do both. I just think there is way too much focus on the "why" and not enough attention given to constructively changing the behavior.
well, I have heard plenty of pundits in the past few days saying that the people doing the rioting should be locked up, that it is all the fault of their parents, and that there is no other cause, which I think is not especially constructive either.
... that's why we talk about it ... ... in the hopes that somebody ... somewhere ... at sometime ... does come up with an actually constructive idea ...
Hey babblers. Good afternoon. Interesting and heavy discussion.
... yeah ... I had a line from the Hitchiker's Guide to the Galaxy to add next ... but I figured it was in bad taste ... so I stopped my fingers
... just to lighten the situationv
hi, onyx and dos, and molly! I seem to be able to stay online for several minutes in a row now, which is an improvement over this morning!!
... silly question springs to mind ... did you take a computer with you or are you using one from your destination?
You're right Sue. Assigning blame isn't going to help either. If little Johnny is a behavior problem in school, we can figure out why (his mother is a drug addict) we can assign blame (blame Johnny's bad Mommy for his behavior) but it isn't going to fix the problem that Johnny has behavior problems.
hi dos, I have my laptop with me but also a wireless connector from Verizon, which is new. its software seems a little persnickety.
got the wireless connector from my department, as everyone is gone this week and I said I'd deal with issues long distance if necessary.
... not that I didn't take a machine to brother-in-laws cottage when I had the chance ... ... but aren't we supposed to leave the work behind when we travel? ... but then it's just a communications device ... so if I carry a cell phone ... why not a computer ... ... ... just rambling ...
and I think Molly is right - we need to work with Johnny on his behavior problems, but we probably also need to work with his mother on her drug problems, and at some point we might want to look at ourselves as a society and ask why there are so many people with drug problems.
well, dos, my department chair requested that I take over in his absence (I am the associate chair) so one of the ways I was able to get away with being absent myself was by being willing to stay connnected so I can deal with issues that come up (classes start in two weeks so there are a lot of students needing assistance).
... yes ... but my difficulty as a teacher is how do we instruct Johnny about his behaviour when the behaviour patterns which are reinforced at home as in the long run counter to what "we" as a society want ...
fortunately the students with the worst problems don't usually make it to college, so I don't have to deal with them directly (although that is not entirely true). I feel for you, dos, and anyone else who has to deal with them in class!
... I've been told by angry fathers that if Johnny doesn't do his homework just give him a detention and make him do it after school ... but then daddy never checks to see if homework is done ... merely asks and accepts the answer "it's done" ... and then talks about how he fooled his boss or his client today and is so proud ..
Johnny has to learn the difference. There are different standards of behavior everywhere. You don't behave the same way in church as you do at a football game.
... how do I make Johnny come to the detention except by expelling him from school ... ... counterproductive screams at me
... there is a big push around here to get high school boys to take their hats off in school ... I know it's silly behaviour and by tradition is rude behaviour ... but the reason for my telling (asking? what if he says no) is to prevent the wearing of gang insignia ...
... but now the test is to see how long you can where the hat in school before being given a detention ... ... I'm in a family restaurant the other day for lunch ... three teens come in with two fathers ... all five are wearing baseball hats ... ... how do I get the kids to take off their hats in school ...
I remember when I was in high school and a couple of boys were expelled for wearing jeans - apparently this marked them as "hoodlums" (which was ridiculous, it was a small school, so everyone knew everyone, and these were good students - they were just making a statement)
... to me ... it's like the vice principals yellinjg at kids in the sixties to go and get a hair cut ... they didn't then ... they won't take hats off now ... does it really matter? ...
well, exactly, If it doesn't interfere with instruction, who cares?
... but how do you teach societal values? ,,, and what are acceptable societal values anyway? ...
... and the suns come out again ... must go dig in the garden ... and grocery shop ... and give a ride home from work ... and ... ... fireworks for all
Ok, now it is windows that is messing up my computer. I'm going to the grocery store.
Lurking and following conversation. Very interesting topic. I'd like to see a golden rule class added in all schools. 'Cause kids sure aren't learning them at home.
Then again, there is a misconception amongst "society" now that children should be taught basic life skills in school because parents are just too busy (or just don't care) to teach them at home. Then again, a great many parents don't seem to have sufficient life skills.
Too true Judi.
When 9 year olds are getting arrested in elementary school, you know mom and dad aren't teaching or disciplining.
It's just so much easier to have them diagnosed with ADD or ADHD, blah blah blah.
I call these people: "Incidental parents".
I had a co-worker who kept on calling her kids after school about doing stuff, she would work until late evenings and then had disiipline (add) problems. What about being there? I don't think being a phone parent is the way to go.
i shall pop in for a sec before i head out. judi, adhd is a real problem being dealt with by real adults and childred(my son is one,and is not a made up batch of letters to allow children to run wild..poink
And I will add that many, MANY children are misdiagnosed with ADD and ADHD because they have behavioral problems, not because they really have the disorder.
correct diagnosis, like with any treatment is a must of course...ok,must run to in-laws..later babble buds poink
yes, add is a real problem, but the kids need real people to deal with them. A phone call won't keep there attention where is should be for longer than the call.
Exactly, Molly. There are children with legit disorders. However, I believe ADD and related behavioral disorders are way over-diagnosed. Who ever heard of this stuff twenty years ago?
who said anything about phoning help in..lord wish i could stay for this.it takes years of work with gross and fine motor skills, and concentration exercises and identifying diet triggers..we do not phone it in
but i will be back later..wife is giving me the evil eye
real poink
by crossy.
I'm not saying all parents, Crossy.
Oh Judi, this chalking everything off to ADD and ADHD started a long time ago. When my oldest (who is 31) was in first grade. Kids were being diagnosed with ADD left and right. And parents were just saying "Okay" and putting their kids on Ritalin.
my son is 32 and has dispraxia - my poor niece that died had adhd and was a trial to us all but we learnt to cope and to help her all we could
Kaz, was your niece undiagnosed?
Kids with learning disorders or learning disabilities should not be a trial to their families. With proper diagnosis and treatment, these kids can lead happy, productive lives.

Hi GE
hi molly
::le sigh:: my homemade soup is less-than-stellar...
something missing?
Hello all!
hi jellen
not sure, GE. its my first time making soup, so i need to play with it. my tastebuds say "cheese" but that sorta takes away the health value...heh
Hi Jellen.
What kind of spices did you use Eva?
well don't look at me for help bc i always say more cheese!
Add some chicken broth?
the "recipe" was basically to boil asparagus ends in chicken stock. i forgot to boil them in the stock, but i strained them later + blended them with the stock. i also used onion, red bell pepper, and tomatoes. after i blended it, i added some "savory" seasoning and some garlic salt, and then a dollop of plain greek yogurt.
How about some Parmesan? Are you allowed that?
probably, but i already grabbed a cheese stick as a side.
red pepper flakes. kick it in the pants.
Sometimes the secret to making soup is to just let it simmer a long time, so the flavors blend.
im thinking a few dashes of hot sauce would help
what about curry powder, Eva
or the hot pepper sauce
i will try a few things. thanks for the suggestions!
hello friends!
I have about 20 minutes to play -- can I get halfway?
Hi, stid
hey jellen. how's wednesday treating you?

Hi stidmama, jellen, and all. Just starting.

Hello, stidgmere

Thank you. Yes. It was her wedding day.

TY.
HALFWAY!!! *bounce bounce* I am going to check email, take a quick nap and then go pick up mother -- there is a poster session at the conference this afternoon, so we thought we would wander over and see if we can understand anything...
hope you-all have a lovely afternoon/evening. *poof*

there isn't an es4/5, only a 4/4
If any of you US folks are interested in trying Tim Tams, you can order them through Amazon. It doesn't look like Amazon Canada has them though. http://tinyurl.com/3j8tzt3
hi again, all, I have exactly 204 words left to find...
tx molly. I was curious about them
go sue go
would have thought amazon canada being a dominion country would have tim tams
just watched Ratatouille with my son and dad, very sweet movie :-)
Well, they sell them in Canada. Not sure why Amazon Canada doesn't sell them.
I love Pixar movies.
they are great, molly!
THE TIM TAMS ARE AMAZING! i served them with three tim tams in a dish with 2 scoops of french vanillia ice cream

however i did enjoy ratatouille

it's not like it's glamorizing ACTUAL rats, after all :-)
my fingers are having trouble distinguishing between the apostrophe key and the return key
i went an ate chicken after seeing chicken run

my son helped me with the on-screen keyboard :-) (I didn't even know there was one until he pointed it out)
lol jmc remember the golden oldie movie about a rat called "ben"? with lyrics by a very youn michael jackson?
very creepy i did not watch that one
can't say I do remember that one, crossy, but I'll bet my dad has it (he has an amazing collection of movies and DVDs)
michael jackson was black then
ben..the two of us need look no more...we both found what weve been looking for...creepy indeed
it was a horror film uu
he was black indeed
oh, then my dad probably doesn't have it
damn look at all those de words!
what he does have is a lot of the Great Courses videos - I can't afford them but they are great
will he lend them to you?
we watched the introductory lectures of two of them, meteorology and linguistics - fascinating!
he probably would but I won't have time to watch them until I retire
i would think you knew all about meteorgology
102 = listing time
bite your tongue i hate that word right now
hi sue
I know a lot but they are fascinating anyway (and meteorology is kind of on the fringes of my expertise - I don't usually watch the physics and astronomy ones as there is not much there I don't know)
hi, sue!
hi again
fireworks
The on screen keyboard is easy to get to. Start...All Programs...Accessories...Ease Of Access...On Screen Keyboard
congrats, doxy!!
whoo hooo doxy!
Yay Dox!!
yay, doxy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
i think training myself to use the right shift key is even easier
i went to the hill today and realized how much i miss going there already
:-(
well, I know it's easy to get to, molly, but first you have to know it exists - that's where I needed the help :-)
Well see I was assuming that BOTH your shift keys didn't work. Lo and behold, it was only one. Funny no one thought to suggest trying the other.
thanks all. Will see you on Sunday. going to Yellowstone for a few days. bye for now. Have packing to finish
i woke up one morning and thought "i should try the other one" haha
Gotta love those light bulb moments. DING!
bye, doxy!! have a great trip!!!!!
if you go to jackson hole and the mormon row national historic site you will see the barn my fil was raised in
<---- wishes she had another j key
have fun at yellowstone
well it was not a software issue but a bourbon in the keyboard issue and only the left shift key shorted out
now i have a new computer that sucks--so i am going to try and take it back to best buy
Can't you just replace the keyboard?
mine is probably a hardware issue, and probably not related to the full cup of tea I spilled on the computer, as that was over a year ago, although one never knows
laptop but yes i should have thought of that first but i was about to go on the road and got rushed
Oh duh, it's probably a laptop.
mine is also a laptop, so more complicated
and it needs a new hard drive so i thought i was being smart
*bangs he4/6 on desk* dumb dumb dumb
I like my laptop for certain things, but I still prefer my desk top most of all.
well with my job i was on the road so much it was better to be able to take everything with me
My sister just got a laptop and I am having to talk her through certain things. Like "you can get a mouse for it". That didn't compute for her until I explained how it works.
hi6?
i like my touch pad but understand why others do not
hi6...not hers + Cu*** is the little guy with the arrows of love
is that a tooth/
thx molly
?
*In my best Gollum voice* I hateses touch pads.
hi6 - –adjective Botany, Zoology . rough with stiff hairs, bristles, or minute spines.
wd molly
hi wv
hi all
sorry..cannot talk..eating tim tams..gn all.poink!
i'm doing a pint of arctic ice mint chocolate -- 150 calories total!
would rather do tim tam tho
surprisingly few calories there shirl
i saw these in the freezer -- it's not "real" ice cream but then it is ONLY 150 cal and it doesn't taste too bad
i mean really, who stops at 1/4 of a pint?
so true
but i have taken to getting the teeny tiny ones
i would except then i'll just have one more ...
sometimes i can restrain myself to two of those and then it is a half pint
phone
and 1 pint for 150 cal, can't be beat
back
I like the Klondike lights and the Skinny Cow ice creams.
skinny cow is good but 1 pint for 150 cal ~ = 1 skinny cow bar
i think the only thing that saves me from weighing 900 lbs is that i do not have much of a sweet tooth so i seldom indulge in ice cream at all
you have made a good choice shirl
you guys should try it, it's really not so bad
too many chemicals in it
evening all
hey jes
how goes, ruru?
hi ru
I'm sleepy actually
it's actually pretty "natural", whey protein instead of milk products
hi jes
hi jm
not that i'm a shill or anything
how's my favorite christian today?
I like sweets, but in small quantities, thank God.
:-)
haha never thought you were shirl
i have been called worse things ru
you put food in front of me, i eat it, that's my problem. mom trained me too well
Shirl, if you were a shill, you would be Shillock, not Shirlock. : )
I'm eating more fruit these days.. I was losing weight for a while.. but I've leveled off dang it
hi jam, how ya be?
lol, molly
i gained back most of what i lost in kenya on my all rice all the time diet
<---Wishes she liked fruit
groooooaaaaan
<---thought HE was bad...
did you have to say Gluten Tag there JM when you said hello?
and he silences the room
in kenya???
oh I get it I miss read it--you are so subtle
I'm sure when she was done, she said Carbobunga!
And if Sue were here, she would mention that there is no gluten in rice. : P
what i said was cheese please!
There is no gluten in rice!
See
(sorry, was exploring the google ngrams with my dad and son)
haha a little slow there uu!
(still trying to relate to my relatives...)
*looks at ngram google* uh what is that?
i ngramed elephant
what does it all mean ms. natural?!?!?!
Google has digitized millions of books, and you can plot word frequencies over time
http://ngrams.googlelabs.com/
oooooooh
fun
pointless but fun
*awesome coolness mama look* How have I survived without ngrams?
thanks for ngrams link - what a great research tool
Wait, wait. This just tells you how frequently a word has been used over time?
hi stid and mab
Actually, historically, there is a good reason to use this tool to look at the use of terms over time. I just checked "bacteriophage" from 1900 - 2008 and saw what I had expected: prior to the rise of the Soviet Union there was a spike, then a gap of quite a while that hasn't yet caught up with the use of the term at its peak...
how would you use it in research mab?
hi everybody, and jmc
how frequently a term arises in the literature that has been scanned by google, which is admittedly not scientific, but could point toward areas that deserve a little more attention.
umm, a little brainy there stidmama...
you can type in multiple terms and compare them
Stid, you know I love you, but we need to know something like that because???
hi stid, mab :)
hi jes
hied
I mean, so true, stid. (nodding wisely)
sorry!
*Sits with Mab*
*slinks off to pb*
because it verifies that the "Western" world stopped investigating (scientifically) a potentially life-saving health and food safety tool. Instead, the West poured its resources into the research of antibiotics which are known to cause some pretty gnarly side effects and don't keep ahead of the microbes they are designed to take out (the microbes adapt/mutate)
quaker, Quaker, Friend, and Friends all come out differently
Jes hied herself off to the PB! *happily settles in next to jes*
Austin does better than Houston and Dallas except in the early 1940s
anyway, just got back from the poster session, so a little hyped about the potential of phage therapy again (could you tell?)
*offers stid a home made potato chip*
what is a poster session?
*Rushes to Google some brainiac thing so she can get a home made potato chip*
thanks jes *offers a taste of last night's broccoli-green bean-prawn stir-fry made with home-growed garlic!*
we're so confused here. I think stid's intelligence has thrown us off a bit
what's a poster?
*Stares vacantly at the chat screen and thinks about potato chips*
when scientists have conferences they often bring lovely posters (especially if they don't have a talk they give) that describe their current research. VERY cool and you get to talk to them about what they have learned without feeling stupid... *overwhelmed by smart scientist types*
LOL mab!
HA! been there done that stid
hated it
*is spoiled by bruce's cooking* :)
likewise, stid! (although not recently...)
*makes room for shirlock in PB*
good catch stid
jes, your bruce and my tom should form a support group: "Cool cooks"
<==wants to meet bruce
come visit and meet him, jmc :)
oh jes -- my mother's dog has a floating patellae thingy going on. Will need surgery to put them in place apparently. *sigh*
not sure where backbeyond it--but you know me i am always up for a babble meetup
Don't bring me down, BRUCE! (Figured I'd sing since I have nothing to contribute to the intellectual conversation going on)
I told Mother it's not that big a deal... was I right?
oh oh... jmc???
*is
damn it
*goes to pb for general principles*
ak5/18 2nd one pls a clue
*Suspects Jack in the keyboard again*
why does it do that when it is not suppose to post without letters in the chatbox????
depends on the individual dog. if it's bothering him a lot, it's probably worht surgery. if not bothering him, i wouldn't do surgery.
ak + Barbie's boyfriend + vowel
<--- finally found the grid word in Shirlock's post
it's bothering him...
go sue go!
yahooooooo a's done
lol
hahaha, I have 45 words now, won't finish this one (but it is nice to be with family)
thanks jes :-D if I come East to see sunshine one of these days I shall have to bring treats...
Jes, isn't Murphy a little young for something like that?
which family? ;-)
i dunno, how old is hi?
he?
Murphy hasn't stopped growing, so they have to wa4 apparently. He was born in October I think.
most common in small dog breeds
ah. yeah, i'd postpone until he's full grown.
Murph's a lab; Buffy had the same thing, but as a mutt-a-poo she was small enough it didn't bother her much. And when it did a week of Rimadyl took care of the pain.
Sue and son are at her Dad's JMC
oh! How's your pater doing, sue?
ok, turning internet connection over to my son for a while, bbl
i know but i was suggesting her babble family
bye uu
huh. yeah, i'd give it some time and see if he grows out of it. don't usually see issues with luxating patellae in big dogs.
he's great, stid! (but I did promise my son the internet :-)
later sue!
bye, uusue
We are family! I got all my Babblers and me!
:-D "luxating" a completely NEW WORD!!! *word-a-holic mama look*
that was my point molly
*starts hearing a funky backbeat drifting through the chog*
nice lyrics though
oh, yeah. luxation = not properly in socket, so the medical name for dislocated shoulder, for instance, is scapulo-humeral luxation.
I was singing Sister Sledge JMC.
le cage a fiox or whatever
Just jumped in. see Murphy has been given some good advice. Thanks.

okay Molly but I can't guarantee it won't take long. There is a joke here '' If you want to work that slowly, go work for the Post Office"

My first Valentine's Day gift to Dan took 32 days to get there. But he was up in Northern Canada, that could make a difference.
in the u.s. everyone things the post office is slow but it is not--studies show that 95% of first class mail is delivered the next day

it normally isn't dc, but the recession drives crime rates up and into "better" neighborhoods
if DC's anything like Nashville, there's no longer a "safe" part of town . . .
uh. what?
oops. shutting myself up in the PB forever............
LOL!
i actually only started locking my front door regularly in the last year
now now bugs we all make mistakes
last pe5 please
i've finally starting regularly locking my car . . . in the driveway . . . 5 feet from the garage door with motion lights . . .
*started
that was a huge one. I just visited with Jilli last week and she taught me how to cheat
i always locked my car because they walk pretty regularly
haha bugs
you cannot cheat in this game
did she show you morewords?
jmc, it amazes me that someone rummage thru my car 5 feet from the door -- smack dab in the middle of motion spotlight . . .
I knew about More Words which I almost always have to use when I am sure I am done. this is a shortcut
*rummaged
good point about the economy, and that's a lot of change in one year, even allowing for the economy.
in 1993 there was a local burglar who walked down the street and took bags and coats out of every open parked car--he took my sweater which had car keys in it
that is my change dc more than the neighborhood's change--the burglary the week before Mother died shook me up
so he used my car keys to steal my and every other honda with the same keys
when we got my honda back it was chockablocka with other peoples bags

(((jmc))) You will find the perfect position; it will be what you least expect
i have to believe that is true but things are a little scary right now
on the other hand i raised a boy on social security for 5 years so this should be a piece of cake
who knows what the stock market is doing these days? My guess is that if no one mentioned it; we'd be just fine. But the media is so fll of nay-sayers that we all get depressed
i only have to make it 2 years to take my hubby's ss $ to recushion things
i agree generally nef but since i am committed to this rehab of my house i need the stock market to be such that i will have money left when i pay the contractors and architect
what about you doing some speeches? I think you are a very dynamic speaker

Thanks much, joey.

We have DH's Aunt with us now and she is dying from heart failure and (IMHO) depression which caused malnutrition. I still think that Life is better than the alternative
i know depression that causes malnutrition. I lost 70 pounds in about 4 months
life is way better than the alternative
Nef, do you think she would let you work on her using the Reiki method?
WOW! That's some weight loss! Were you heavy to start with? (Aunty lost 30+ lbs in 3-4 months; and at 86 she was normal weight but is now skin and bones)
yes. 232 to 162
sorry, GA, I was "shooting" my DH (giving him his shot)
I've never studied Reiki; but I did do some Healing touch (which I guess is similar) and have tried that on her. My D-I-L graduated from school for massage therapy; and the only person she's ever done it on is this AUnt, just in the past 2 weeks. She really loves Aunty; and D-I-L has been a huge help to both of us since my surgery (total hip replacement on 7/21/11)
ga, what would be the Reiki technique? Can you describe it?
omg, Nef. seriously, you don't need any more stress in your life. I hope that you are taking care of yourself
Do you have hospice helping you, Nef?
It is all about intent, mab. I say a prayer asking to be a conduit for the healing power to go through me to whomever.....If I have the opportunity, I use "hands on". But as I said all you h ave to do is ask that what we call "God" or universal energy to use us to take it to that person.
I'm trying to, joey. And am now seriously considering retiring within the next year somehow
me too. I don't know how I can do it financially, but I need to. I really do
mab, you can learn a lot about it on line.....the best author out there, in my opinion is Diane Stein, The Essential Reiki....
thank you, ga. I would like to know more about Reiki and will look.
mab, we have home health coming for me (including PT) 3 times a week and we just got Aunty on Hospice 1 1/2 weeks ago; once we realized that she wasn't able to improve and all the doctor visits and hospitalizations would be in vain
good for you nef. hope that it works for both of you. and may you have peace
thanks for the info, GA
It's so sad, nef, that your aunt should have to be depressed at this time, the end of her life. it would be so very good if she could get some relief from that.
goodness. You have quite the hospital ward going. How is your hip nef?
my hip is doing great. I got the OK to use a cane today
hooray!
now that her sister is here too; she's much more at peace.
I took Reiki I....there are three levels. I find that I can do what is needed simply by asking for the power to be sent. We were taught that though we can't stop a soul from going back to the source but we can ask for the transison (sp) to be easy.
I think that's wonderful, ga.
i agree. that is beautiful
I will be happy to "send" to you and your aunt if you like.
She worries she might go to Hell for her "bad behavior" though. Her oldest saister was developmentally delayed and Aunty was the youngest of 5 girls; she never married but feels she was "mean" to her sister and never let her have the last word. I've known her and her sisters and mother for over 38 years and never once saw any evidence of "bad behavior"!
mab, it works wonderfully with animals too.
I would appreciate that GA. THank you so much for offering that gift to us.
I know how draining Healing Touch can be; I imagine that Reiki can be draining too
Nef, what you think she would say if you said something like....."If you forgive yourself, then God will forgive you too."
omg,GA. you are amazing
that's beautiful, GA. I will use it
Reiki hasn't drained me....seems to be energizing. About the only time I can stay focused is when I'm working on someone or something.
Will do, gladly.

my best friend, a Nurse midwife, did Reiki on me a few years ago when I was in severe pain and didn't know what was wrong. She came over and laid hands on me. When she got to my back; she said that there was a hot spot over my kidneys; I went to the doctor the next day and was immediately admitted to the hospital with a severe kidney infection
Yes, Nef, I believe that. Once on a flight to New England I was seated next to a school teacher from Philly....we stopped to take on passengers and the man and woman took the two seats in front of us. The woman was very near hysteria....we had about 2 more hours to fly...and so, I reached across the teacher and held my hand to the back of the woman's head rest......the teacher was looking strangely at me and I smiled and said, "It's just a little energy thing." The lady quieted right down and we continued on our flight.
have you studied Reiki for long?
That is to say, not everyone will believe or want you to do anything for them....what they don't know can't hurt them, eh? This energy can do only good work because it is coming from the Source.
My acupuncturist (that I was seeing for hip pain for the past year) was certified in Reiki also
(brb)
Nef, it has been about 15 years ago that one of my friends and I took the course. We had a group here then. I've used ever since. (forget to use it on myself though...until someone reminds me.)
(sorry, I needed a drink of water) I didn't know you could use it on yourself!
Nef and mab, please keep it going. When you think good thoughts about someone, I believe you are sending energy. If you would like to email me....its gapeach106623@yahoo.com.....I will help you all I can.
me too?
