Geez, do I get a chance to post it? yes, it's up now.
thank you very very much, neil-genius xx
many, many thanks neil
yay Neil!
It does take time to put that together, you know?
<---wonders about this mind
I get it done as as fast as I humanly can... just so you know.
I'm sure many wonder about the workings of your mind, ru. ;)
Neil, we weren't pushing you -- it's just that someone said you had a list up before you did, so we looked.
I thought he was wondering about the workings of Rudy's mind...
And mine too, no doubt. Only one thing's for sure with my mind: WARPED!
I sent two pyschologist off the deep end.. neil
Oh, weird. Who said that and why?
Seriously, ru? Or are you leg-pulling again?
no.. they're pumping gas now..lol
I think it's absolutely amazing that you can finish grids so fast -- breaks all records as far as I remember.
People are asking me why I'm standing and walking tilted now.
whoo hoo!
1/2 way!
wow, m9!
Ummm no, jilli... not form what I've heard. I'm sure "ChuggaBOOM" is much faster. And gremlinn is too of course.
I'm in NO hurry.
"not from" even... typing's shot to hell.
Well I'm trying to hurry now, to get a list done.
you are certainly up there neil chugga was amazing
I don't think so, neil.
Since there isn't any otherwise for now.

I think you are as fast as both chugga and grem...and your lists are really appreciated
the 7 I have is like someone who worships pressing clothes

I never would have found the ha 4/10 or 5/11 on my own

I thought the worshipper was funnier, neil ;-)

Oh, well glad it made sense to someone anyway. :P
Haha, ruru.
thanx neil...and nbs!
Does anyone know if we will have lickety's list?
No time soon, peach.
That I know of?
Thanks, neil.
No, I guess no one knows.
lickety list is odd. says today but is diff grid
and hello all.
But I may post a blog to put the clues list in.
I have a Blogspot on Google's Blogger.
Blogger site.
That's because Lickety isn't available to do the list for a while, nmlobo.
thanks for the 8 Neil :-)
There's a clues list in my profile.
neil, I just emailed DrG about BabAnon
yw Mary.
that i knew. but the list has today's date. different grid. as i said...odd.
Ok Jilli.
Hello nmlobo
hello jilli!
crap.. I'm stuck
No, the date may change automatically but the list doesn't, because nobody is posting one anymore... for a while, anyway.
clue o the o?
Stuck on what, ru?
or + original booboo in reverse = or5/10
ty for help neil fireworks
Good clue, Josh!
yw Dee.
i've never seen it update the date but not the list. it usually shows the last date of list posting. new by me.
:)
ty for the in8, neil
booboo as in bear, or as in hurt?
nbs now
but what do i know? i'm mostly a lurker.
Oh, no idea, nmlobo? Maybe someone tried to do it but only got the date changed and couldn't figure out how to do the rest?
how about original no-no
Just a guess... don't know? *shrug*
Hey josh, I got it from 'original booboo'. very funny!
What I see on Lickety's list is the last grid (206 words), dated Oct 5. This grid is the one for Oct 6 and is 144 words.
hi roses -- long time!
well, howdy folks! Been quite some time since I made a flip or, uh, a grid!
well done, roses, it's a word you see from time to time on the grid. if you can remember it, you're in good shape
original booboo backwards. that was awesome. I already had the word, but the clue was worth some kudos.
Hi Jilli, yes, it's been a while since I've been up this late!
and well, hello freep!!! Whaere have you been?
hey freep..
hiding :-)
and hi josh
why, freep?
hi jilli
nah. not really hiding. just had to reprioritize.
hah -- the Himalayan goat is here
hiding sounded so much more dramatic and mysterious
justafreep- is that the lorax?
yes inded, freep, lol!
so cool.
it is, nmlobo. he speaks for the trees, though I do not.
why the disconnect?
well, I don't speak treeish, so it is hard for me to be sure I am speaking fairly on their behalf
ah- got it.
that'd be going out on a limb a bit freep
hello ev1 any clue pls for the an6 I have the licorice
oh ha ruru!
more puns like that and I'll make like a tree and leave, ruru

LIST -- neil's list is now in my profile if you scroll down past the icon themes. He had to leave. If you put me in your My Friends you'll be able to find it after I leave.
it's not as friendly as fetch.
yeah.. but this is sapling my strength.. must. lie. down.
that an6 josh clued is a word?
do you have a canopy bed?
And I'll be leaving very soon!
no jilli!! talk to me please! how are you?
I'm fine, mrp -- how are YOU doing?
nice on
one
I just can't let yew have the last word!
on the F'ing phone all day... didn't get any money yet
you'd better go to bed soon, orchard never forgive yourself in the morning, m9
social services are all red tape and no brains.
that sounds typical, mrp -- how frustrating.
a cherry thought
i will not be paid disability pension until they 'see' me next week... grrr, and my family allowance was stopped in May 2010!!! crikey!! they owe me a lot of money!!
why was the allowance stopped?
and you think I can get it?? "We are so sorry Mrs P... there is a glitch on our end blah blah blah" I NEED MONEY, CAUSE I DON'T HAVE ANY!!!
Mark stopped it for whatever reason he did.
OMG, mrp!
We are entitled to family allowance, and he stopped it??? I don't understand
ok. boughing out for reals.
I am beginning to see the bigger picture now jilli... this isn't just 6 months of stress, this is at least 3 years!! and the 'black dog' got him good.
nite all. hope you get it worked out mrp.
I hope you have a credit card, mrp
yeah m9, as long as I do what they want me to do :((
jilli, I apparently have 6 credit cards! didn't know that!!!
How can you not know?
I hope they're not maqxed out.
cause he is the financial controller of the company and whenever another 'offer' came in the mail for a $15K credit card, he took it on.
*maxed
jilli, they are maxed out.... completely and utterly. Oh, I do have $19.34 so that is something...
Can the credit cards tide you over?
Oh, I see they can't.
Btw, mrp, don't worry about our visit in March. We won't impose on you.
bullshit jilli!! i will be so fine!!
well, there's no rush
and I have to see you, will be the highlight of my year!!
Oh, I'm sure there will be many higher lights, lol!
Will you be checking email regularly, mrp?
I've just been reading Bill Bryson's "In a Sunburned Country", about Australia. How do you like this quotation: ""All those things eighty-year-olds seem to enjoy -- staring vacantly out windows, dozing in a chair, boring the pants of anyone foolish enough to sit beside them..." (Not me!)
After all, I'm not just 80, I'm 84, so there.
And now I must go to bed -- early start (for me) tomorrow.
I love it Jilli, sleep well
does anyone have the sh5/22?
night jilli
mrp seems to have disappeared -- will someone say g'night to her for me please (or good evening, I guess)
will do jilli
ty ruru, and g'night to you and all here and there...*poof
help on the sh 5/22? please
George Bernard with another consonant at the end
hi ruru
thank you very much west.. that one wasn't in a2z word finder

I am up late yes
let me say I love your monkeys
you should see the ones I have hanging by the bed..they scream and fly
google it
oh.. no wonder you're up
lol
I am going to try to sleep..it's been a long day
I'll bet..have a good, painless one
san diego and back..I'm beat
night west..
long trip for you..good night ruru
good morning
hello ((ruby))
westford, it is so nice to see you!
nice to see you too ruby
was just about to call it a night and I remembered this is the time you usually come in
so I stayed
we continue to be lucky with our weather. It's chilly at night, down to about 50, and then up to 80 for a couple of hours in the afternoon.
that is very sweet!
I enjoy your company
how are things in rubyville?
MrP, Centrelink cannot just stop child payments, whether he said to or not.....check all accounts, co they still have to pay you for you kiddos
what I dislike, though, about this season, is that it gets dark so fast. The upside of that, of course, is that in June it is light by 5 and lasts until 11PM
I was never so aware of that, living in the eastern US
agree ruby hate to think of kids waiting for the bus in the dark
do you have DST? or is that just a dumb American invention?
and the minute the sun sets, the temp drps 20 degrees! However, there are still flowers: roses, sedum, aconitum, just-planted pansies, geraniums, perovskia
if the fact that when I nap, I turn the light on my face, yes. But I've always done that
that's nice ruby..our flowers are pretty much gone
Hi Ruby. What does perovskia look like?
oh wait, hahah, I thought DST was that light-craving disorder....duh! Yes, we have dst but one or two weeks off from the US
the neighbor has a pot of bright yellow chrysanthemums by her front door. She's across the street so it's the first thing I see when I open my door
that's SAD
it has tiny purple flowers on loon pale green, minty-smelling branches. I picked the plant from a small illustration and it is fine if it's not too close to the house
the light craving disorder..not the flowers
long (not loon)
sounds like a Russian ballet dancer
I have it in the descending border with white roses, so it's pretty enough, but messy, too
or a far-Eastern Russian city....
that sounds very pretty
We still have cosmos pale purple, Michaelmas daisies also purple (aster), geraniums, and the pinkish remains of hydrangea. Also those "naked boys" crocus with no leaves also purple
hello scouser
hi scouser and diz
the garden is in themed-portions (sounds grand, but isn't, really) because it is on a hillside.
oh yes, asters, too
I like the idea of minty-smelling branches !
so by the front steps, it is the wedding-bouquet timy) garden, around the bird feeder (and hawk diner) is the "Japanese garden", but one of the tiny maples is dying.
we have big trees so I should get lots of cyclamen (country-name is sowbread) and put them at the bases.
we also have catmint, regular mint and lavender in various places
I love the thought of a wedding bouquet
I love cyclamen!!! I didn't know you could put it in the ground; here they sell it for indoor pots
do you let the local brides come and pick their own?
hawk diner - that is brilliant! Wish hawks were strong enough to take out a squirrel or two. The greys are definitely taking over here, shouting all the time: noisy rats indeed.
in spring, the wedding bouquet has various pink tulips, lavender iris, white allyssum [sp?]
we have squirrels too..busy making holes in the lawn now
I love the hawk since I've gotten to know her so well (from when she came in the house) buty now she picks off (or at least tries to) birds from the feeder and stands on my window box
To return to the Babble I hope there are fewer babblets than yesterday: there were some wallopers!
we've had 2 squirrels in 15 summers, I think the locals have eaten them all
I'm surprised the little ones don't gang up on her
one was a scrawny little black one and the other, not in our garden, was a huge fluffy red
do they wear the tails on their hats too?
Yes westford - they are looking for the bulbs. They have a race-hatred against tulips.
no, but they have fur coats that look like they're made of 200 finy skins! like what you'd find in a Salvation Army shop in a poor neighborhood
everything we had was plowed under when we put in our patio..had a ton of invasive plants
my ooh la la version of France is going downhill fast ruby
it is impossible to keep up with the weeds here; when weeding, you can practically feel them winding around your feet
but some are so pretty
Yes I fight a losing battle against a member of the umbellifera family known as "ground elder" or "Bishop's weed" and which rushes about on rhizomes just beneath the soil and can grow from 1mm of that left in the ground.
when we first planted the garden, I put in more than 300 tulips, gorgeous the first year. The 2nd year there were 89, the 3rd, about 50. Now there are a few that have multiplied but the moles or voles or whatever that we had in the beginning are gone. Maybe they make mole bourgignon
those runners are killer
what does that look like, scouser
cannibal bourgignon?
don't let Julia Child hear you
jain
close ruby
whoops, capitalized, I guess.
the word you're looking for is a plural
the ground elder has leaves that look a bit like the elder tree (sambucus) and comes straight out the ground as a stem with a leaf on it which spreads out to fill available space. it also smells like sambucus when crushed. later it has a thinly spread umbel (like cow parsley) in dainty white.
hmm, I'm looking it up
slap me with a fish, west
was it originally used as a ground cover?
is sambucco made from sambucus?
rhymes with a martini liquor
I was just wondering that myself
we have horrible cottoneaster which covers anything it can
It makes excellent ground cover which excludes all else but dies down in winter leaving a desert: like Jap. Knotweed.
yes ruby - elderberry wine is one of strongest English drinks
cottoneaster ..makes me think of hiding colored eggs
you are much more knowledgeable than I, scouser, I just chose things for the garden by color
that is funny, westford, but it's thorny and nasty
we had fiddle head ferns..so pretty when they first came out of the ground and then took over half the yard
I am not in charge of the flowering bits in the garden, Sheila does those. I just try to manage acres of unruly shrubbery.
I belong to the Knights-who-say-Ni !
For those who are going ???? refer to Monty Python and the Holy Grail.
uh oh, DH is back with the groceries
that's a favorite word ..shrubbery
I haven't seen it, but I figured
did you eat the ferns, west? I've heard they're tasty
my husband was going for milk..I asked him to pick up a few vegetables..he brought home a can of peas..we've been married 46 years and have never had canned peas
HELP ! i have lickety for oct 5th but does not match the grid......have refreshed the page and it`s still the same
There's a first time for everything.
no we didn't eat the ferns..I found out later that the Vermont Country Store sells them canned
I hope that's a funny story, west, not an apocryphal one
I think that you eat the early shoots, maybe sauteed in butter. But then again, you could saute yoour slippers in butter.....
mills lickety is not here..jillibus has a list in her profile
hi mills
agree ruby..anything sauteed in butter is sooo good
hi ruby, hi all
I copied the list before she left..I can post it here if you like
Hi Mills. Lickety out of action for the forseeable, it was announced last weekend. VolleymomDee also gets list into her profile - not there yet though.
she got it from Neil
ty i`ll find it in rankings
okay
false alarm, he's not back
does he shop every day? that's nice for you
he does all the food shopping but there are many "canned peas" episodes
it gives him something to do
what do you do with them?
I cook whatever he buys (or toss it)
squirrel stew with canned peas..yum
they make worse!
we had the best meal in Cannes..soup to nuts so they tell me..had the worst cold and couldn't taste a thing
did you ever see the Kliban cartoon "soup to nuts"?
no
is it funny?
I'll look it up
it is a waiter serving a meal to a bunch of obvious crazies....sorry
sounds good
is it animated or a comic?
I guess Kliban was a 60's-70's fad
there were books, bed linens, t-shirts
I think I can see it in the back of my mind
my son, who was little then, loved it
heavy ink lines
sort of a Ziggy character?
I think
I'll bet it was very popular
our friend's daughter works as a server..might try to find it for her
it would be a great t-shirt for her!
notice I said server..can't say waiter or waitress anymore
that's like letter carrier
I wrote a poem once about a person hole cover
I only have 60 words, but two nifty ones: wh5/20 and ir6/21
I love that!
it becomes even more difficult in French because all nouns are gender-specific, e.g. breast (sein) is masculin
I wonder who thought that one up
and there seems to be no rationale, just one more thing to me**rize
probably comes from breast plate on a suit of armor
maybe...
sometimes PBS has French on late at night and they don't speak English at all..just have to follow along
what sort of programs?
supposedly to help you learn the language but there are no subtitles
they just have every day scenes
that would be very hard; even though I had a lot of Fr in school, it still took me a while to be able to understand movies and TV
oh, so it's actually a teaching show
yes..I love to listen to them speaking
all the Romance languages are so pretty
I miss hearing my friends speaking English! My best friend from MD called the other night and it made me both sad and happy
I had Latin and Spanish in school and one year of German for fun..I was the only female in the class
we were only offered Fr or Spanish
loved Latin
I imagine that with Latin, you would have a leg up on all the other Romance languages
it does help..even here
I think schools are starting to offer it again
what is funny now for me, is that I can tell where (even French) people come from by their accents in the language
there are a lot of Italians here, bi-lingual, but I can always tell
they speak with their hands?
yes and the vowel sounds are a little different
it must be so interesting
yes
emiric
lots of ex-pats?
unfortunately, husband can't hear well enough to understand, even though his reading is much better than mine
not in our village; nobody speaks English here
do you sometimes get lonely for spoken English..except at home?
definitely, and since husband can't hear, we don't really converse, he just makes speeches
luckily, my son, sister and some friends telephone
picturing him in a toga with a laurel wreath on his head
that would be perfect; you nailed it, west!!! hahah
that's good about the phone
and there's babble and friends like you!
I'm surprised the villagers don't want to practice their English on you
what would we do without babble?
they are too embarrassed and also too old!
my husband, although he could do it, won't speak French as he doesn't want to make mistakes. I, on the other hand, make mistakes but don't care.
and every day, I learn a new word
and I'll bet the people love you for trying
Hi all
talking to everyone
hello Dianne
hello Dianne
ruby - does your husband wear a hearing aid?
how very cool..you're in Hong Kong
they don't even mind my accent, which surprises me
he has two, but refuses to wear them. Today, I made an appointment for him with the audiologist, to try to adjust them so that he can stand them
we circle the globe this morning, but for Dianne it's tomorrow
Yes, in Hong Kong and can't speak the language:( I can speak "taxi cab" Chinese.
he's back.....!
Why does he refuse to wear them? His life would be so much better if he didn't make himself so islated.
I have so enjoyed our conversation but must get going as well..nice to meet you too Dianne..hope to see you again
bye west
*poof
Hi all!, back again, just had a quick read thro the chog, hey Ruby, if hubby won't wear his hearing aids, then IMO, he is an idiot....sorry just me, have had mine since the age of 9 (57 now) and I can recall missing out on hearing things from an early age. When my dad had to get them quite a few yrs back, I reminded him on what he used to say to me - 'Don't let others try and control what you wear to help you thro life, tis better for you and 'stuff what others think'. God Bless me Dad, RIP
hi peeps
Hi esprit
jean - I see you use to live in New Jersey. Where?
sounds like China was the early topic here, I just got back 3 days ago
from Elizabeth, Union County. You from NJ too?
Then again I ask - where in China?
I lived in West Orange for several years before moving here.
Beijing, Chengdu, X'ian, Shanghai, Jiuzhagou, Xuzhou
Wow - what a great trip.
yes very interesting
my son lives in Xuzhou
he just got married last month
Did he get married in
China?
China, to a Chinese
So you got to meet the family on this trip.
Yes, met family, friends, got to see things from a different perspective than group tour
hi girls
Hi mrp. How are you holding up?
good morning everyone, please can i have a clue for the 8 and 9
I am getting better with clues!! friggin miracle really... we needed them for some of the grids I know
in 8 and me 9
hi dianne :) nice to see you. holding my own for now... been on the phone all bloody day to social services of course, but that is to be expected when they make mistakes with payments
Did you get it sorted out?
if I don't get paid, too bad, if I get paid too much, I am penalised... what the? and of course, i didn't get paid anything
hey Michelle
thanks dizgrannie, could you give me the 3rd letter on those two
MrP if you haven't been paid your kids money - ask for a review AND KEEP RECORDS OF ALL PHONE CALLS AND VISITS etc to Centrelink
me9 -personal life story writer.
int and mem, for jenny
diz, i only just started on this for the first time in my life... and i didn't know what to expect. but am keeping all records of conversations for sure
in8 - in + black road stuff + plural + Mama M**
thanks to diz and dianne
Glad you got them
good one, MrP...I have fought Centrelink AND WON!!!! don't let them discourage you when they say they have lost/misplaced files etc...they tried that with me, took me nearly 3 yrs and ended up at the tribunal...the tribunal more or less said 'hey this person needs the DSP, whats the F is holding things up'....good luck in everythingxoxo
What does DSP stand for?
diz, that is what I am on, and haven't even seen a cent of my newstart!
it is for disability payments dianne
or sickness payments too
Dianne, DSP is Disability Support Payment
MrP it takes a few weeks for it to come thro, but you can ask for emergency relief
Oh this is terrible. You should have been getting your payments.
MrP, can I inbox you on your FB acc?
i did dianne, was supposed to come through 2 days ago... unreal
Thsi is more stress that certainly don't need.
yes i can diz... will have to get back to you though, son is begging for attention and dragging me away for now... bbs

flosey the sewing machine in your icon looks exactly like the one my grandmother had. wish I had it but another family ember ended up with it after she died
hi peri, it's very similar to the one my mother had - I think she probably sold it (in Nevada) before coming back to Canada
those old singer machines are bullet proof, things never break..my mum had one when i was young
I learned on that old Singer, now using a different make (can't remember the name) quite expensive but don't like it as well!
don't do much sewing anymore! but now that TABI has gone out of business I may have to revert to making my clothes!
you only clothe yourself at one shoppe..you are an exclusive woman!!
no crossy, not at all! very country casual, and their cords fit so well, only had to hem them up an inch
I've always had trouble finding clothes that didn't have to be altered - use to be 5' 9" and skinny - now have shrunk 3" and the excess all settled around the waist!!
i seem to have lost Babble Expert. Anybody else having the problem?

I'm glad there is a list today. This grid is really throwing me.

tom good win,T.E,D Klien, golden apples of the sun.flowers for algernon, space mail, foundation, and on and on
Oh croosy - if you could see what I left in NY and what I have now you know thats what I read. But the newbies like the blood & gore.
Same with movies!
Bbl
Heinlein, Simak, Huxley, Wells and others I can't remember from back in the 60s
Hey - I'm older than you! I got started with Analog years and years ago. Sifi with Si!
i have fortunatly missed the backsplash road kill that is vapire mania
yes.robert heinelin
Nobody here is older than me.
excellent
ray bradbury
yeah
Old enough to remember the movies during WW2 were made to make people happy w/rationing and shortages and they boosted the men too.
he did a hardcover for arkham house called dark carnival:)
and was it Larry Niven?
good morning, all :)
Now it's just more blood & gore and stupidity and our men are coming home with many, many mental problems
Belong to Sci-Fi book club - get it dished out to me every 3 weeks!
of course they have mental issues, the enemy is not so black and white as of old,how do you deal with brainwashed 11 year old girls with 20 punds of c4 taped to them?
insanity
yaa for hoots;)
The point is that tehre is absolutely NO relief. It's 24/7.
why are you yaying me???

Haven't been doing much ordering lately. SS has not changed in 3 years, food has tripled and fuel doubled. Prabaly going to cancel

lol hoots,i go off on a tangent at the merest encouragment
and the topic of good books will always distract me
nan, I'm pretty sure mrp got the list going
after the liveship stuff i plan to tackle a giant that i have never read before by the name of Ursula K Le Guin she has a earthsea series that looks very good
not to worry my babble friends,i ramble like this when i hit a grid wall, once it breaks,i will shut up:)
ty jill - I sort of thought that might be the case
ahh a nice ta 7/32= a coating ignored silver gets on it after time
Le Guin was highly touted when she arrived but I think she was responsible for sf veering into fantasy.
like i say,she is new to me,but seems quite prolific and has been at it since the 60,s..she is 81 now
I liked sf when it's Speculative Fiction.
thats where asimov was great, did tons of speculative stuff and he had those patented zinger endings lol
you always knew he was going to blow yer mind in the last 2 pages
ok - I'm calmer now - Just scared the daylights out of our chippies. They'll be bask!
The Foundation series was great!
you never ever snuck a peek ahead with his works, sometimes the entire short store was a total build up right to the last paragraph hehe
foundation rocks
story*
yeah! He was a genius!
he wrote the rules of robotics..interesting man indeed
he did a short story where he predicted the battery calculator by 30 or 40 years, but in the end of the story it was the "rare" and unique ability of one man who could still do sums in his head that won the war lol
yep

Hey, y'all. I just recieved an email from a friend advising me that all cell phone numbers will go public this month. The number to call for blockage is 888-382-1222. You must be calling from the phone you want blocked. I just did mine. Please do yours as it will eat up our minutes. Thanks
Gap - check with Snopes. I'm pretty sure it was mentioned in there
6
Oh, and send the message to all of your friends and family. Thanks
what do you mean "go public"? and how will this allow your minutes to be stolen?
we have heard nothing of this up here
scam
this has been circulating for quite some time
this message is an "urban legend" - not true - do a net search on cell phone blocking and see the message
I guess "urban legend" is a much better term :-)
yes,but what is the how of it? i mean unless bell canadas or att cumputer data base is about to be hacked...
DONE
the web site that tells about is labelled "URBAN LEGENDS"
bye!!!
do you have link with more details?
cause this sounds like vapour panic atm.we have heard nothing about all cell phone numbers being hacked
Crossy, I called my friend in KY and she said that they (telemarketers) have already been calling her. I gave her the number to call to block telemarketers.
http://www.snopes.com/politics/busines s/cell411.asp
ahhh! telemarketers....up here gapeach we have a provincial wide do not call list we can get our names on
I really don't know if it is "vapor panic" or not, crossy.....that's up to you to decide.
you give it 3 months and if they bug you again they can be charged
hi, all!
I have 10 words so far :-)
though official govt charities are still allowed to cold call
howdy sue
hi, crossy!
god bless the do not call list:))
i just misunderstood, for a second i though it was all about accounts being corrupted..my bad
have never had telemarketers calling my cell phone...
no,sue,my cell stays pretty free of that anyways,i just set up the do not call for our land line
and the land lines days are numbered anyways
I did too but the politicians still get through - they are exempt
and I would give up my landline if my cell phone had better reception in my house
my cell is nice and stong, been debating tossing the landline and augmenting the cell phone with voip
well, my "landline" actually is VOIP with my cable provider
ahh cool
I pay about US$50 per month for unlimited local and long distance (within the US)
btw, crossy, you had better watch out - I am renewing my passport so will be able to drop in on you in another couple of months :-)
Ok - just came from snopes. According to them cell phones have always been banned from telemarketers and they should be reported. This is for US don't know about Canada.
good to know, hoot!
hi sue yw
The problem is mostly from the ones who machine dial. They just run thru numbers til one answers. I keep mine off 99% of the time
the federal law bans the use of autodialers to cell phone numbers
I bought it originally to get away from AT&T in NY and have had it ever since. Just a phone w/a few games but it comes in handy when I need it
But how does the autodialer know? and why would the telemarketer vcare?
I got mine for traveling but have VOIP to get away from Verizon :-)
Cell phones have different prefixes (the three numbers after the area code)
i am debating skype acct
haven
oop
haven't tried skype although I might when we travel overseas this winter
i have never gotten a cell telemarketer, but you do have to watch for text phishing
my son got into trouble that way not long ago
Mine is a Tracfone - pre-paid. Costs tops &110 per year. No pics. Never had trouble w/reception anywhere
I never give my cell number to any online service
except ones that I am really familiar with, such as airlines for flight alerts
tried a prepaid phone with my son for a while but it was cheaper to put him on my family plan
of course he texts nonstop...
No text either - just a phone
ok - dryer to empty & refill - bbs
bye, hoot!
of course now we all have smart phones - like tiny tablet computers - I love mine but it is not cheap
smart phone are too expensive for crossy..well not the phone itself, but up here they kill us with the data packages
for get 5 gig data here will run you 100 a month
we do not have unlimimited ata like the states..you guys are lucky
here too although I get 2 gig for $20/month, then an extra $10 for every gig on top of that
data*
unlimited doesn't exist here any more either except for a few carriers, and most of those slow the speed way down if you go over 2 GB
I need to look at international data rates and call roaming before we travel this winter - otherwise could get REALLY expensive if we don't change our habits!
that is why we canot enjoy netflix,i am using the mid level internet package here with rogers..it is good for 60 gig a month and runs 50 bucks..but if i stream movies,i can likk that off in 3 days
kill
I liked likk better :-)
lol
we have a triad of super providers that kill all other cpmpetition
and they keep the data packages sky high
rogers,verizon and bell canada
your at&t stops right at the border
consider yourself lucky - AT&T is the devil incarnate!
lol,then rogers is its brother
twins
lol
I agree, hootowl.
I've been getting a flood of telemarketing lately although I'm on the no-call list. But besides politicians being allowed, so are researchers (I checked) and that's the gimmick these nuisances are using now -- they say they're conducting a survey. I hang up, but recently saw a suggestion from Andy Rooney (supposedly) to just leave the phone off the hook until you get the beep beep beep. This apparently ties up the telemarketers' lines and tey take you off their list. I'll have to check that with snopes, though.
ty
When AT&T moved here I warned BF but he liked the idea of wireless and cheaper price.
lol jilli, once i had the telemarketer go throiugh the whole speech, then i began to inquire if i could call them at home and ask what they were wearing right now..never heard from them again
WE had it pulled inside 3 months. THAT's when we found out the BBU they installed was paid by us! And it's made for a cmp so useless in house
I think half our neighborhood tried it. Most of them ditched it too
I just hang up as fast as possible - it's not the caller's fault, they are just people trying to make a living and have to do what they are told (most of them have a script that they must follow).
I have to assume they all have these stupid BBUs sitting in their houses too
anyway time for university council meeting, must go! see you all later!
sue - a lot are trying to make a living but a lot more are just vultures!
lagging here - school must be out
oops -- just checked snopes -- the Andy Rooney stuff is false -- see http://www.snopes.com/politics/busines s/telemarket.asp
saw that
even the vultures are hiring people at minimum wage to make their calls - I feel sorry for them
and I am gone! bbl!
bye
Is anyone here?
ok bbl bye
bye hoot....
i am here-ish
and now I am gone-ish... *poof*

well my eldest comes home for her first visit from college tonight. i'm really excited to see her but afraid of the whole shift in family dynamics with her hime this weekend.
thx, crossy!
*home
I have a student who is writing a biography of me for his English class - feels a little weird
that will be fun, GE! I'm sure you will have a wonderful visit.

here mom, brought a few bits of clothing homw to wash lol
just one - I signed up to be a mentor for an incoming freshman, and he is my mentee (if that is a word) - he wants to be a physics major but is a little behind in math so it is going to take him an extra year

yaaa for sue being a mentor!!
oh gosh, crossy, I remember when my cousin went to college, back in 1964 (or so) - he used to MAIL his laundry home so his mom could do it and then mail it back to him - there was even a service that provided boxes for this
hi, all.anyonr hsbr s vlur got no7?
let's try again. anyone have a clue forno7?
i thought it was funny she was doing laundry Monday night but maybe she was just sh**ting me to throw me off
no7 = french word for black + ending that means "sort of similar" - it is a weird combination
Hi all
hi, boo!
perhaps the "best" part of the weekend will be visiting my parents. my mother is sick and we are trying to get in some family pictures before the inevitable happens
Hi Sue..can someone clue the an6
a good way to think off the no7: Someone who does not celebrate St.Paddys' day is...
ahh good one angel!

No***** need apply?
How about norish
that is very close, boo!
and hi, kap!
Hi!
has there been any update on Lickety's progress?
no but mrp has put the clues up today!!! She is quite a woman!!!
I don't know
What is wrong with him?
Boonear, he is hospitalized for mental health and possibly other issues.
Oh my gosh..
I knew there was something but I didn't know what had happened.
may be addiction problems as well, she did not go into great detail
he would probably prefer us to not speculate..
Wow..he has had Aloy going on in his life
Good point...
Oops alot
gotta love that autocorrect, boo :-)
Lol
anyway thanks to the list I now have nbt, and thanks to the chat I have nbs!
maybe I should write more lectures....
I didn't want Aloy to think that I was talking about her
you will all laugh, but I am now writing about white dwarfs and electron degeneracy pressure
sue you make my brain hurt
imagine how my students feel :-)
i don't know why but i think i will go straighten the house before emily gets home
nice idea. Take care, and have a great time with her!
finally done!
hope all of you are well!
hi, science!
Clue for the other an6 please
it builds off the licorice word, boo
last ta618 pls
I have one that starts with the plural road stuff and then adds two vowels
hi all -- last word -- wi5/20 -- clue please?
ty sue
add a vowel to the thing you do "upon a star"
ty ty sue -- fireworks!
I'm glad to see it has no def here -- but Merriam-Webster says it's an Irish expression of surprise. I should know that?
yw, jilli!
Just going to go outside for a breath of fresh air -- then back here to clue if needed
and thanks to you and peri for pointing out the existence of these words - I am far from listing but my monkeys found them for you :-)
Hello...
hey all. 4 left. all sh..
Go m9!
Hey all! I am teaching all day tomorrow in my neighborhood school again. While i don't like that my friend is ill, I love that she is comfortable calling me!
Go m go!
Good for you, stid!
thanks Jellen! aw stid, the sweet with the bitter.
Yep, I am lucky. Did you get those pants you saw pnline yestedrday, jellen?
How are you m? Are you going to be able to replace your camera?
2..
I bought two pairs of slacks yesterday...one style, two colors...
hi, jellen, m9, and stid!
Hey sue!
Good for you, jellen!
I see you are having fun teaching, stid!
well stid, I remembered that I got that camera (a300) to replace my a100 that had a screw loose inside (seemed better to just get a "new" used one rather than spring for repair). That a100 is still kind of usable.. just can't switch lenses often.
I met with the department chair today. I will definitely be teaching at least one evening class.
and the all purpose lens with macro that I'd pretty much been shooting all the time with I can replace used for about 40 bucks
bummed to go back to the a100, but WAY better than it could be.
hi all, recipe for black bean and avocado salad is in my profile. I made it today and it was delish. Hope you like it too.
Well, that's something at least, m. I hope the camera that was stolen gives the criminal no end of mischief.
love black beans.. love avacados.. so it's probably nummy!
That is so nifty, jellen. I envy you!
Hey peri
Hi, peri
I just love doing what i am doing, sue! Someday will be glad to have a classroom of my own, but so happy for now that i can take days off when i need.
what will the class be Jell?
very nice, stid!
English Composition I
fireworks, going now, have fun with your class stiddy. bye for now
oh fun!
bye peri!
congrats
Okay, i need to leave the cozy coffee shop and get the stidkid from his activity. YAY peri!
Hooray for peri!
See you-all later!
*poof*
fw
Congrats, m9!
yay, peri and m9!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Last word was Joe Sh** LOL
Thanks, didn't have him yet...

Hey, crossy...
howdy jellen:))

back as promised -- missed stid, of course :-(
Andy clues needed?
*Any
I found this grid nicer than most
Where can I find a functional brain to use?
At the top of your head, jellen, lol!
Oh, jilli, mine is not functional... :-P
mine is under renovation:/
mine is asleep
I'm going to hunt up the next icon theme -- Zeppelins

No Led ones for this kid.
crossy holds up a zippo, flashes the peace sign and digs out his zeppelin #4 record
Zeppelin icon posted <giggle>

wi 5/20 please
wi5/20 -- what you do upon a star + vowel (it was my last word)
and sue gave that clue
brb
ty sue and jilli
any more clues needed or can I check my email?
just want to say HI jilli!
Hi bugs! How are things going?
hey jill! hey bugs!!! hey cross!!!
Well hello stid -- I just missed you before.
this is a tough year. Our schools need more money and smaller classes!
hey all!!! I am subbing tomorrow ALL DAY for my friend. *happy mama look* *bounce bounce bounce*
howdy stidmama:))
stid!! happy sub day stid
oh bugs, sorry to hear you are in the same boat as our schools. I keep hoping your situation would be better than ours.
So glad you're doing what you love, stid
hey croosy
bugs, I LOVE that book. I was given a copy when I was about 14, by an elderly neighbor-friend.
tough in schools here as well it seems, they make the kids pay for everything but the air in the classrooms these days.no paper,pencils..nothing,they have to bring pack all refuse from the lunch they bring in back home again
morning all
I used to love what I do but this last year was tough and this one will definately be my last
me too jill -- after all those years of excruciating struggle, it would have been awful to find out I didn't enjoy it.
((((mrp)))) happy to see you here when I am awake!
I thought you had said something about retiring, bugs...
(((MRP)))
hello mep -- thanks so much for the list -- it makes SUCH a differnce!
and those kids who don't bring supplies from home use mine crossy. I wish I could claim them all as dependents on my income tax.
bugs is MUCH to young to retire! *shocked mama look*
I still want to but the government is being VERY slow about sending the forms I need before I can apply
lol,at least we do not have to buy the sesks they sit at..well not directly anyways
**hugs** my list is your list
desks
LOL bugs!
mrp -- you disappeared last night in mid-conversation -- what happened?
(((crossy))) was looking for you on FB, don't wanna intrude though, so will ask if you are available in about half hour for a quick chat??
I used to believe that stid, but I can't help all the kids who need help and you can't help those who don't want help so I just feel frustrated every day. Which needy kids do I ignore today? is not the question I should have each class.
ill fire up fb right now mrp
or how about msn?
jilli, i was dealing with too much last night, had my son come to me and tried not to cry.
your choice my dear
i don't have msn crossy, sorry
kk fb coming up
oh bugs, I know that feeling. My experience last autumn was just like that. (((hugs))) I ended up helping the kid in front of me, and trying to get every kid in front of me a couple times a week...
oh, mrp, that's so understandable.
mrp thanks so much for the list
and you think i can remember my yahoo chat or how to even get to it? ha! my computer is going in for repair today so i should have MY STUFF back
(((mrp))) (((cross))) I am heading out soon. see you-all again later I hope.
Hi, just starting and Murphy needs me to sit with him. So, by.
hello Mother, goodbye Mother.
***peri*** thanks hun... enjoying playing to distraction with you btw :)
hi and bye gmere -- it's been ages!

bbs, gonna chat with crossy for a bit :)
mrp I started a lexulous game with you ages ago, do you want to play. if so it is your turn. if not I will understand
I do miss Scramble tho.
I wonder who rules the roost in stidgmere's house...
was it mentioned already that Steve Jobs, co founder of Apple has died?
Don't mention Lexulous -- it gives me a guilty conscience
Oh no! Had NOT heard about Steve Jobs. How very sad.
I much prefer Words with Friends, the colors and grid are easier to see
yes, jilli. pancreatic cancer. he was only 56
Such a great loss and so young
p[-----------.
jill -- MURPHY rules the roost! (of course)
So sorry...cat on keyboard...
recipe for Black Bean and Avocado Salad in my profile if anyone is interested
well, stid, that was kinda obvious, lol!
yes, we just learned about Jobs when I turned on the news. He made a huge impact in the tech world.
mmmm. peri, you are my FAVORITE flower!
:-) is that something you could eat, stiddy?
Steve Jobs, Jack Layton -- at their pinnacles and pushed off too soon.
I made cauliflower and mushroom soup the other day. it was good but I will not make it again. it looked much prettier in the picture. and no one else ate. no one else ate the saldad either but I did not care
yes peri, and I have printed the recipe out already! Will try to find avocado this weekend (have to go into town for that)
HI.
Mushrooms in soup do not work. No idea why. Neither does broccili
hey lady!
Howdy
Back for the last 10...T's and W's.
I just had a shrimp and avocado wrap for lunch -- added lime juice, green onions, parsley, Old Bay seasoning, mayo, in a fajita size sprouted wheat tortilla. Nice.
I found all but 21 from my brain but I guess that what is left is bablets
sounds delish jilli
Herin -- how far from Melbourne is Kew -- or is it a suburb?
i MUST visit melbourne some day since they did not ask me to use my name hehe.i better get hotel rooms and food for 50% off;)

and HI all
too late here for coffee
hi dr
Hi KJE
howdy dr1965
Hi Crossy!
Steve Jobs has died.
w's done
Hi MAB
hmm, how cheerful, obtw, hi all
Hi Shdy
hi doc, how have you been?
I am doing ok... just very busy with life- how are you
kind of the same, i suppose, I have no complaints, just busy with the whole living thing :)
yea i had hear mab,his company issued a statement in the last hour or so on it
good to hear Shdy! Beats the alternative
hi everyone! (((SHDY))) (((DR)))
hey, crossy, nice to see you. I agree, doc, it's nice to be in ano drama moment, or month
howdy lbd
Hi Dawger ((HUGS))
hiya Crossy!!
howdy shdybr:)
nuh uh, dawg? hey
how ya doin' shdy? long time since
good lord, it's like a reunion, for me!
: )
doing great lbd, how about you?
unemployed, but doing okay
drat, end in sight?
while waiting for dawg, big hug for crossy
well, i should say i'm underemployed. only have my part-time teaching assignment...3 more weeks of that then nada
i'm sure something will come along. just have to keep looking and applying. it's the pits to be over qualified for a lot of the jobs, not to mention age
the whole budget reassignment concept doesn't work. I am at LSU, bombarded by budget cuts, but they want toccut the people who do the mostt.
yes it is dawger
of course, cut the base of the tree not the top! doh
clearly I should be cut first, just based on typing skills
well, they didn't hire you for your typing skills. ;)
Good evening everyone
hola
Hiya Cadfan!!
hi kje
Hi Cadfan
no, they hired me for what I'm not "qualified" for. I don't have enough letters after my name. Even though I tutor all of their students to get them to where they understand.
I want a new one next time i see you lbd!
must run... FW... gn
amazing, huh. higher education living in the dark ages in many ways
okay, KJE. whoooo hooooo! gn
gn KJE
My boss has been encouraging me to pursue a phd in education, apparently there is a need for educators with a strong background in statistics. Really thinking about doing it
you'd be good at it!
Might be true - but most public universities have hiring freezes - we need more faculty - but cannot hire...
off to find some dinner- good to see everyone
enjoy dinner, DR
we have a freeze, have had so for 3 or 4 years, but there is no freeze on grad students, and as an employee I pay no tuition, just fees. Almost insane not to
any clues for the no7 and the sh5/22 ?
i know, Cad. adjuncts are in a demand
no7, french black + "kinda" ending
Absolutely -
thanks ibdawger
sh 5, add a consonant to the end of the 4.9
cad, what is your field?
Yep - we have one we use all the time.. wanted to have him teach a couple courses next semester but the faculty won't listen to me - and thus waited to long to ask, he's got travel plans
I am not faculty - I'm the Adviser for an Electrical & Computer Engineering department
thanks got them all now
adjuncts are cheap (comparatively speaking), usually no benefits and 1/3 of the price of regular faculty
anyone need a clue before I leave?
whooo hooooo OUWACHITA!!
Yep - in this case - a retired Engineer - who doesn't need the money - but likes to teach -
i am not faculty either, just a masters level research associate, been there 8 years, so yes, I am cheap!!
you need your piled higher and deeper, shdy
one of my tutoring "kids" ( i.e. grad student) told me this morning that I was the best teacher she had ever encountered, because I have been patient, and because I find a way, no matter what, to make it make sense.
i don't have enough letters, because I haven't piled them
whatever, i am the biggest dork ever, and my students love me
Unfortunately - part of the problem here is PhDs who don't want to teach - at least not undergraduate courses... so they don't - the "buy out" - but that limits the courses we can offer and even though there is theoretically money - we aren't allowed to use it to hire
gotcha, lbd, bullshit, more shit, piled higher and deeper
I love the grad student who taught my stats class. she'd laugh at us all the time, and repeat herself in as many different ways as possible, have study and review sessions too. She was the greatest!
Interesting, Cad. Not many professors can get away with that here. They have to carry a certain number of undergrad courses as well as grad courses AND be doing research or publishing.
love that, that's what I do for my kids, but , well, sorry, don't fall into the normal politicsw
i am tutoring grad students, but not grad stats students. Their professor is a recent MIT grad, he doesn't remember how to tone it down
engineers are a different breed - most are only required to teach 3 courses per year...at least here
i work in a tiny department ( look at lsu college of ag, department of experimental statistics). We are at a point where most of our faculty is going to retire soon, and budget cuts make life hell.
Gotta run - homework to do - we're headed out of town for my son's football game tomorrow night. Enjoy everyone!!
wow, the engineers at MSU had to teach more than that, but then there aren't that many profs in that college. a lot of them are doing extensive research
Have a blast, cad
night, Cadfan, great chatting with you!
Game is on national tv :) ... CBS College Sports Channel - or Altitude if you are anywhere near the Mountain West
i primarily do research, i teach one class each summer, used to teach 2, one undergrad, one grad
OMG, what college game, cad?
CSU-Pueblo versus Colorado School of Mines
I'd forgotten your son was in college!
hard to believe all our littles are growed up!
He's a Senior this year - graduates in May. This is Jesse - Graham is a bit further behind ;)
I'm so glad you're still following Jesse's progress!
Well - he is our son too - just not legally.
what's jesse studying, other than football and girls?
LOL - Sports Marketing
love is the binder! he's one lucky young man!
Has very steady girlfriend whom he confided in me recently.. might be "the one"
ooooh lala!!
is she a student too?
No kidding.... this from one of the biggest playa's around. No - she's an esthetician - someone he actually knew in High School - they reconnected via facebook late last year. She lives in Denver
seriously gotta run now ;) Night!!!
night, Cad!
ahh, Steve Jobs died.
ta6 the first?
smashed sesame seed sause?

((((HUGS)))) hey all, taking a break BEFORE starting to read the student newsletter we are using tomorrow...
I love subbing for my friends, we get to actually talk about what I am supposed to do before the kids get in the door. :-D
YAY Stiddy!!

no, it's hard. i went to clues and a2zwordfinder already, sooner than usual i mean
i've dragged out 50 of them
nothing big
only 4 words over 6 letters . . .
yeah, but there are 18 6 letter words and i've only found 2 of those, and none of the bigger ones.
yup!
heh. and then about 10 words fell off the w for me :)
i'm getting stuck on little ones, not just big one. grrr
i'm hoping to dredge half of the words out before resorting to listing... lickety's clues up tonight?
yes, there are clues!
