1 (3-pound) country ham, store bought, sliced 2 tablespoons fat from the ham 1/2 cup coffee 1/4 cup water 2 tablespoons butter 1 beef bouillon cube (optional) Grits, recipe follows Directions Heat a skillet over medium-high heat. Add the fat from the ham and render. When the fat is rendered, add the ham steaks and pan-fry until golden brown on both sides. Remove the ham from the pan and set aside on a plate and keep warm. To the pan, add the coffee and water and stir with a wooden spoon, scraping up any browned bits from the bottom of the pan. Add the butter and the bouillon cube and stir to incorporate. Serve the gravy over the ham steaks on grits. Grits: 2 cups water 1 1/4 cups milk 1 teaspoon salt 1 cup quick cooking grits, not instant (suggested: Quaker) 1/2 cup butter In a small pot, bring water, milk, and salt to a boil. Slowly stir grits into boiling mixture. Stir continuously and thoroughly until grits are well mixed. Let the pot return to a boil, cover pot with a lid, lower the temperature, and cook for approximately 30 minutes stirring occasionally. Add more water if necessary. Grits are done when they have the consistency of smooth cream of wheat. Stir in half the butter and serve with remaining butter divided equally on top of each portion, or serve with fruit or with a savory meal. Yield: 4 servings

im about the same, sue. i never wore glasses at ALL until high school. through high school and college, i only needed reading glasses, nothing else. enter the workforce, sit in front of a computer 8+ hours a day, eyes go *poof* now ive got contacts and i cant see a thing without them.
and that is with my bad eye; my other eye can see the E, and usually the next row.
I started wearing them at age 10, probably spent too much time with my nose in a book (at least that was what my mother said)

i actually had perfect vision for years. threaded needles for my grandmother and that sort of thing. then just one day, it started a quick descent into blindness...

That's so nice. I love when my kids can connect with their cousins. I have 2 nieces here now, one came to live here (she's 23) and one is on a study program for the year (18). They are both coming together next weekend to visit. I am twisting arms so all my married kids will be here too. It's a little sensitive with the in-laws since it's a holiday though.

my house was built in 1948, and it has had some "creative" home owners, who really hadn't a clue of how to build anything square or level!

I liked it better when Jr. high was 7-9th grade. definite time to allow kids to go thru that awkward stage with their peers and not be on display for the high schoolers to pick on or for the little kids to be influenced.
I agree- I like the fact that they are still in the same school but a different building. It works nicely

i am kind of here, but then up and down off the seat like a pogo stick cause of all the stuff i have to do. Kids were beginning to lose it and changed their mind... after I threatened them with all types of horrid chores
they did the chores set out for them and are now relaxing and the house actually smells great!
