Jane and Arlene are outside their nursing home, having a coke and a smoke, when it starts to rain. Jane pulls out a condom, cuts off the end, puts it over her cigarette, and continues smoking. Arlene: What in the devil is that? Jane: A condom. This way my cigarette doesn't get wet. Arlene: Where did you get it? Jane: You can get them at any pharmacy. The next day, Arlene hobbles herself into the local pharmacy and announces to the pharmacist that she wants a box of condoms. The pharmacist, obviously embarrassed, looks at her kind of strangely (she is after all, over 80 years of age), but very delicately asks what brand of condom she prefers. 'Doesn't matter Sonny, as long as it fits on a Camel.'

ok. How many feminists does it take to screw in a light bulb?
sharing jokes is great fun!
A cowboy walks into town and he sees this Indian sitting on the side of the road with his dog, horse, and sheep. The cowboy walks up to the Indian and says, "Hey, that's a cool dog. Mind if I speak to him." The Indian looks up at the cowboy and says, "Dog...no...talk." But the cowboy turns to the dog anyway and he says, "Hey dog. How's it going?" The dog answers (via the cowboys ventriloquism), "Doin' all right. Thanks for asking." "Is this your owner?", the cowboy asks. "Yep." "Well, how's he treating you?" The dog answers, "Real good. He walks me, he feeds me great food, he takes me to the lake to play." The Indian is amazed at this point, and then the cowboy asks if he can talk to his horse. Again the Indian says, "horse...no...talk." But the cowboy turns to the horse and says, "Hey horse. How's it going?" The horse replies, "I 'm doing good." "Is this your owner?", says the cowboy. "Sure is," answers the horse. "Well how's he treating you?" "Pretty good. Thanks for asking. He rides me regularly, he brushes me down, and keeps me in a nice warm barn with all the hay and straw I'd ever want." The Indian is totally amazed, so when the cowboy turns to the sheep, the Indian is clearly worried. The cowboy asks, "Mind if I talk to your sheep?" To which the Indian answers, "SHEEP LIE!"

I can imitate a chicken pretty well... it's scary.
I'd assume so ru... most animals and birds can.

with my similar problem, I feel best if I barely eat diner (and sleep with many pillows)
I have a medical question for babble's resident expert: I have a white spot on my face, pearl-like with a slight bump underneath. Does that sound like basal cell carcinoma?
indeed,i must retrain myself, seems i can no longer eat like my son!
as a melenoma survivor,i would get that looked at fairly quickly..but i am no dr.but i have the scars
been there, have the t-shirt as it were;)
it's about a month old. is it a dermatologist or plastic surgeon problem?
small
see a dermitologist..he will spot it faster
thank you. it's been on my mind (as well as my face)
never waste time with odd growths/moles etc..mine were flat over 3 cm,irregular on the edges with a lighter centre
this is like a tiny pearl, white and shiny
definatly a deritologist, all a plastic surgeon will want to do is sell you a button nose or a boob job lol!

I always forget that time of day is relative here. "Hi" is the best greeting. : )
th7/52
I love the idea of communicating from different time zones. I usually greet with my own appropriate time-of-day-greeting... at some point in the day it will be good for everyone, grin.
I used to chat daily with a friend in the usa, and I greeted him with: 'welcome to my day'. And once I had the opportunity to say: "Welcome to my millennium!" :D
: )

i know the he5 and 6 are high letters, but can't connect them :(

Start with a curse, mrP, then go to the other high letter.

the coffee is not waking me up..nor did the shower :(

yvw
*gives carlee a cold sponge bath*
my brain is just sleepy :(
i have to wake up...am off to work soon
sprite, can you chat on FB for a minute please??
i need some serious advice that several babblers are asking about
and i know you are helpful in helping us all
ok, understand if you don't. we will come up with a way to deal otherwise...
mrp hun..i have to go get ready for work..and pack my overnight night bag..this is my weekly sleepover at mrs. buffy;s
oh carlee! I like that!!
( which means i will sleep like a baby I'll be in bed by 9 and sawing logs until 6 am )

well...not sure its fun until i get to mrs buffy's
i was hoping you were having a ball (or two)!
work until 2..dealing with the theives, atempt murderers, chold pornographers drug dealers...
then drive..for physics... THEN mrs buffy's and sleep
S*L*E*E*P
good lord carlee!! make sure you get some fun in there!!

x word?
ah, well.... the basics and kids stuff is :) I just got my stuff into the cupboards yesterday, and unpacked 2 big boxes of stuff that ended up in the bin anyway. In all my years, didn't think that I would be doing that
it is the second d4... i bet it is a fish too
moving is a good time to clean stuff out that you don't really need
do4 - a stupid person
i mean, how far can you go from the do???
my brain just stopped.... dolf isn't a word
two start with the same first 3 letters
however, brain stoppage is the least of my probs right now! and finally got the bugger with a 't' ending :) thank you
yw

hi
hi herin
how you?
just about to pop out to go to the grocer... haven't done my shopping yet for thanksgiving!
Ok. Is that tomorow?
I am doing OK... just tired but will get a 4 day weekend with the holiday, so that will be nice. although, i did tell my sis i would help her paint my nephews room... i must stop saying yes!
yes, tomorrow, thursday... I guess you are already there, or not quite yet?
No it is only 11pm
we are all meeting for dinner... I am bringing a salad and pecan pie
I have a cat jammed under my leg at the moment and a really soar knee and hip from her yesterday
YUM I love Pecan and pumpkin pies
salad will be roasted butternut squash, pears, spiced pecans, greens - will be delish ; )
You can keep the squash
I am considering making pecan bars rather than pecan pie...easier
i LOVE winter squash!
how can you like pumkin and not butternut? very similar
pumpkin
sloppy typist
infern, squash is pumpkin
Not in my world it aint
The baby squash is yuck
OK, must run... want to beat the worst of the crowds - see ya later
kje, squash is a minature yellow vege here... tasteless and pointless
Take Care KJE
see ya kje! enjoy your cooking!
Have fun Kje
infern... our squash is not the same as in the USA.
Really?
yep, we have squash... little yellow crappy looking veges... but squash is pumpkin in the US
like we have rockmelon, and they have cantelope
ok
Mr PRes the laptop Died AGAIN :/
to me, cantelope is a jumping piece of meat... without the c
infern... time to go to the department.... department of fair trading
lol
Nah
laptop is out of warrenty
yeah... they will replace it post haste
warranty doesn't matter
how many times has it been repaired??
It was the hard drive again I have no choice but to pay for this new one and wait. Twice this year
well, what is the warranty?
Everything works fine I just got a bad HD which is being sent away to get fixed but I had to pay for a loaner
Long painful story short Thailand flooded no hard drives being exported current stock what they have
if the computer was repaired twice in warranty, then you are entitled to a new one on the third repair... cause they have to extend the warranty by 3 months each time it is repaired
As I just said not much can be done as the stock is low the prices are high.
B.f has similar issues with his work but now there is the floods and Japan so they are doubly screwed
infern... not being a stickler... but have learned over my time to buy locally, and get the service warranty... that way, any 'errors' can be fixed instantly without problem
Yes but Aus do not make HD's
not much choice ni the issue
but you can buy HDs through Aus companies
and they are then responsible through our fair trading
Err yes but the one I went to didn't have the stock. They are fairly reliable just bad timing
then they have to replace it with a product of equal or greater value
They are getting the part and then i can get my $$$ back in a month
Just bad timing
and if they tell you different... dept of fair trading will sort them in about 48 hours
Either that or no pc for the next month
did you see that add for brazilian hair straightening system?? on tv??
Um which one?
Brazilian Hair Straightening
I know the product but which company?
same ones that do nude by nature
do I have to look it up??
Not a clue. I know that any with flamodihide is bad
well, they called me and asked me if I would like a 'trial period'... i had seen it on tv and left a message for them to call me.
k
so, they call me and the advertisement on tv says it is a 30 day trial period on the product... but a 16 day keep period before having to pay.
now, does that make sense???
a trial period of 30 days??? and you have only 16 days to return it?
no
But I dont use all that stuff
well, they pulled the ad for 30 days, and changed the bullshit advertising to 16 days
I love how Mc Donalds were done for false advertising on their fake coffee
indeed, it only take one complaint!
OK I am going take care I need to do a few test runs on my game
I reported this 'brazilian hair straightening' company, and within 2 days, they were calling me and making deals to return my money... keep the product, and keep my mouth shut. I told the fair trading that they were lying and next thing I know... they changed their advertising! luved it!
anyway, i am for justice... nothing more, nothing less
bye for now
take care
i updated my profile... the stalker/prick has agreed to leave me the hell alone... all in the profile
ding dong the prick is dead!
that is a Thanks

needless to say it hasnt helped me s top smoking
Yes, he will have to do it himself, ivesy - so hard to watch them make mistakes, especially such devastating ones
true, it has to be him, ultimately. But it's rough to stand by and see him suffer.
Ivesy, are you able to at least cut back on the smoking? I know it's hard when you are under stress, but so important to take care of yourself!
so hard to see him suffer. but so mad for putting himself thru this.. he did so well for over a year..am trying stid....
might be best not to beat yourself up about the smoking right now, ivesy, you have enough stress as it is - when you are strong enough you will quit, I am sure of it
If he has done it before, then he CAN do it again.
i know sue. smoking relaxing me a bit. . and he can do, but at this pt he doesnt want to. that is what scares me.
I know what you mean, ivesy - if he wants to, you can help him, but you can't make him want to :-(

uh oh, Jes. who's sucking the life out of your washing machine?

We bought a new, commercial grade washer the end of August, because we'd gone through 3 residential washers in 18 months.
now the new washer is on the fritz!
at least it will be under warranty?
what are you washing?
spin drying cats and dogs is frowned upon, Jes ;-)
another doozy...he5.26 - someone/thing puts a h** on the washing machine and the start of my name reversed...plura for 6
I tried to open Lickety's Babble Clues site and received a reported attack page. What is going on please?
We have been told it is a false warning, if you have IE you can open it in that with no issues
Thanks! I will try to figure out how to open it now.
i think if you click on the ignore warning button, you should access.
okie dokey, i'm off for a while. bbl. good luck with the grid.

A very happy Thanksgiving Eve to all my American friends.....(I am getting the smell of turkey through the 'puter )

I love Thanksgiving. All year long, you go to the grocery store and there is this small section of sweet potatoes. Then Thanksgiving time rolls around and the small section becomes a mountain of sweet potatoes. I feel like I need to genuflect or something.
So, what is everybody doing to celebrate the big day? Big family occasions?
we are thinking of going to the zoo, soodle, it is free tomorrow :-)
Lovely,
and we always seem to have mountains of sweet potatoes in the store but maybe that is because we are in the middle of farm country
Lovely, Sue. the zoo is always a great day out. Have fun!
it's supposed to be nice, too, mid-50s F (maybe 12C?) and sunny
ok, who wants a jack russell for christmas? :)
I might but I don't think my labradoodle would (she doesn't get along well with other dogs, unfortunately)
hmm. probably not a brilliant plan to mail him to you then
hi everyone
probably not :-) would take a lot of stamps anyway
hi, jen!
hi jen
heh. yeah, you'd have to pick him up at the airport
I'm having this vision of Sue at the airport with a sign that says JACK RUSSELL.
Now Jack Daniels, on the other hand...
how about if I put a bottle of jack in the kennel with the jack? D
as long as he doesn't drink it on the way :-)
it'd be a sealed bottle
Why are wanting to get rid of a Jack Russell, Jes?
oh, well, then...unfortunately our local shelter has more than enough pets that need placement (and we already have a dog and two cats from them)
because he's living in the kennel at the clinic right now, and needs a home. i already have a foster dog and foster cat at home in addition to my normal contingent...
he has no health problems of which i am aware, is current on vaccines, microchipped, neutered, but needs a fenced yard as he does not stay home on his own.
Aha! A high maintenance Jack Russell.
Our rescue mongrel Daisy is a high maintenance mutt as well. She has my heart broken!
no more so than any terrier, i think
She has a bit of terrier in her, along with an assortment of other breeds. Proving to be totallly untrainable, but very loving and lovable.
heh. Well, Jack's not untrainable, just rambunctious.
Rambunctious! I love it! Describes our Daisy to a tee!
The pizza delivery guy is my best friend the night before Thanksgiving.
<--- wishes she could eat pizza at home
? Why can't you ?
well, I could upstairs in my son's room but can't have it in the kitchen or dining room, it would contaminate the whole place with wheat and make Frank sick
Wow, I had no idea he was that allergic. I guess there are lots of places he can't go then.
he won't even have a glass of water at Pizza Hut (although he will go there with a group - has to wash up before he eats anything, though)
Oh, now see I would think that if one pizza would contaminate your house with wheat, then Pizza Hut would be off limits. I know nothing.
well, it's the food preparation surfaces (and the plates and whatnot) that are a problem
as long as he doesn't eat at Pizza Hut he can wash off any bits of flour that might have gotten on him, but if it's into the countertops at home (or the drawers, or whatever) it's a lot harder to get out
pizza is a particular problem because it tends to have a lot of loose flour on it that gets all over the place
sometimes we are a bit over-careful but he is extremely sensitive, and will be sick for 3 days if he gets exposed to more than a very trivial amount of gluten
Oh my :-( ! Life without pizza?
there are gluten-free pizzas, and he will sometimes get one for a special treat - they are quite expensive, though
Totally off topic... does anybody know of an IPhone app that you can play Babble on? (Guess who just got a new IPhone...)
I eat them if I am out somewhere (sometimes) but I have to wash my face and hands and brush my teeth before kissing...
I babble on my android phone, soodle, using the regular browser
works fine although the chat box and the word list don't scroll
I tried it last night, and got frustrated resizing the screen the whole time. Not to worry... I still have my trusty (?) laptop!
But I am still very impressed with the IPhone. Its amazing!
I can get the puzzle and the stats on the screen at a readable size (well, if I take my glasses off and hold it pretty close to my nose - one of the times when being nearsighted helps!)
I have to swipe sideways to see the word list and the chat, though
Aha! I didn't try the sidey-ways option!
How is your Dad, Sue?
he's doing great, soodle!
spending a lot of time watching DVD's from the Learning Company - essentially entire courses on DVD, 12-24 hours each - he has dozens of them
Great! My mum turned 80 at the beginning of the month. Me & her went on holiday a couple of weeks ago, and on Saturday coming, we have a big family dinner to celebrate.
when I was there in August we watched a sample of lectures on linguistics, history of language, meteorology, and art
ah, I remember your holiday, soodle, it sounded great! And the two of you managed to survive each other's company, I see :-)
How wonderful is that? We bought my dad a laptop for his 80th, and all he uses it for is to play Solitaire! Sheesh. and yes, myself and my mom had a really good time. :-)
my dad has had computers for a long time but he doesn't want internet at home (he goes to the library to read his email). He uses his for word processing and to keep track of his finances (and to do his taxes).
And long may he continue to do so, Sue!
Indeed. I tried talking to him about what he might do when he's no longer able to stay in his house by himself, and he said he figures he will be able to stay there another 5-10 years (he's 90).
Sigh.
He has the right outlook Sue
well, he does, until he doesn't (if he does get to the point where he needs help, it won't be easy to convince him he needs it, I suspect)
and I'm 800 miles away...
you all have to remember this when you find yourself in this position and give in easily.
I am getting old myself.
My Grandmother lived alone until she died at almost 100...No one could convince her otherwise
Hate the thought of loosing my independence though.
I agree, snags; there is a thin line somewhere between tough and too stubborn, and it can be hard to find sometimes
I know..............
May God show me the way when it is my turn.
I was actually surprised when he let me do all the driving after he got home - I told him that he wasn't going to drive until the doctor said it was ok, and he agreed
of course, as soon as the doctor said it was ok, that was the end of me driving him around!
you need to slip that doctor a $20
And is he safe to drive, Sue?
seems to be, soodle, although I worry about his eyesight - he has macular degeneration although it is only really bad in one eye
and he is mentally very sharp
Do you have siblings sue?
Hello,Everybody! How are you all today?
not surviving, sea; my sister had two children but they are no longer in touch with him (and one of them has three children of her own)
Good Nef and you?
hi, nef!
A lot of family doctors are very reluctant to declare a lifelong patient unfit to drive. It happened with my Dad... his doc certified him fit to drive, even though there wasn't a wing mirror on any car within a 50 foot radius of where he had driven...
Hello Nef, and Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours.
I'm glad to hear your Dad is still doing so well, sue. My friend just left to spend Thanksgiving with her 102 year old Dad in AZ. (But he has 'round the clock care; has diabetes and some kidney issues -- along with senior stubbornness! ;-)
well, this wasn't the family doctor, soodle, it was the guy who put his leg back together
Hi Sue, Nef, et al.
my dad has neighbors who keep an eye on him, but not very closely (which is how he likes it!)
hi, neil!
Hi neil
ortho docs are pretty strict about driving after hip surgery. I couldn't drive for 6 weeks after mine...
My dad was an absolute hazard to other road users. In the end, we just had to call in the local police to withdraw his licence. We just had to consider the possibility of him injuring somebody.
it was a good 6 weeks or more for my dad, too, nef
Hi Neil
Hi again, SeaSpray... sorry about that. Had an important call about a job. I send you an email.
Just came here to add an update.
well, I was around for several days after he started driving again and kept a pretty close eye on him - he seemed fine
Hi Seaspray
did you get a job, neil?
re5/22 pls
No problem...hope it was good news for you.
and when we were there in August he drove us around as well (my car is too small for his liking) and still seemed fine
<--- eagerly awaiting neil's update
H soodle
I did get an assignment, yes... temporary but still, it's income. As long as I can keep lining them up I'll be ok. I've been working freelance for the past while but woudl like something more stable and steady.
that's great news, sue
Hi Peri. Re and the country south of your border...***ico
ty Soodle
Nothing that exciting, Sue... I just posted a new update on profile.
and good news for you too, neil. Temp work is better than no work!
An article link.
You are quite welcome, Peri :-)
hello babble friends
ok, got it, thanks, neil
hi, trif!
neil, what do you write? exclusively political?
Hi Trif.
Anything that's required... I'm a journalist. I am also a political writer, but that's not my main "gig".
would dearly appreciate a clue for the lower e in the right column
Trif! Happy Thanksgiving, my friend (((())))
happy thanksgivng to you to, Soodle, in whatever way you may choose to celebrate it
ah i see. former reporter myself (in IL)
en & the bits of a plant that are underground....
LOVE you soodle!
many grateful thanks
Love ya too, Trif :-)
received a book in the mail from Ireland yesterday, Soodle. Apparently Mr. Hate's uncle contributed photos to a history book, and he was kind enough to send a copy.
I was so touched that he chose to remember me. It was most kind
Whats the name of the book Trif?
Oh yeah, LeslieAnn? Well I'm not a reporter, as some seem to think... that and a journalist are not the same thing. Yeah, I am holding a mic in my profile photo, but that's just because I was interviewing some of the protesters down at Occupy LA last month on video, so I could post it on my website. A friend shot that footage for me and added the graphics and text. Came out not too bad... link to it is in the Oct. 36 update on profile.
Taking a break from the Thanksgiving prep. I just made a mess with flour that made me think of poor Frank.
indeed, molly, that is why we keep flour out of our kitchen :-)
ummm - had to go get it, to make sure I got the name right...."The Light of Other Days" an Album of the Baldoyle Area, by Michael J. Hurley. Nice title, I think
Last week when I was trying to arrange some shelves, a shelf fell to the floor...
and it was of course the shelf that held the glass jars of FLOUR and HONEY
I would be torn Sue. I do love baking and making bread. It would be hard to give that up.
Ugh, Kaplan... a loaded shelf?
Oh my God Kap, what a mess that must have been.
Lesson: don't ever put flour and honey on the same shelf.
Hmmm... Baldoyle isn't too far from where I grew up. I will keep an eye out for the book in the shops.
I took pictures of it.
OMG. Ugh! What a mess that must've made.
its a fundraiser for the st. francis hospice
Uhhh, no.
To All My American Friends..... How To Cook A Turkey: First, buy the turkey and a bottle of whiskey. Pour yourself a glass of whiskey and put the turkey in the oven. Take another 2 drinks of whiskey, and set the degree at 375 ovens. Have 3 more whiskeys of drink and turn the oven on. Take 4 whisks of drinky and turk the bastey. Stick a turkey in the thermometer, and glass yourself a pour of whiskey. Bake the whiskey for 4 hours, take the oven out of the turkey, and floor the turkey up off the pick. Pour yourself another glass of turkey. Now just tet the sable, and turk the carvey!
After standing in shock for about 5 minutes.
oh,my, Kap. That must have been a mess!
wow, kaplan....I hope you didn't cut yourself!
Those will look so nice in the family album.
ewww...I remember when my son was a toddler, he got out of bed went and got chicken, flour, and wine out of the fridge....what a mess
HA!
Haha, yeah. I was about to say, it seems like whoever wrote those instructions was a little... er, drunk.
Soodle, funny.
Soodle, you did not ask my permission to post my turkey cooking directions. : P
It was a lot of flour and a lot of honey.
And I thought that as soon as I read "set the degree at 375 ovens".
Cleaning that up must've kept you busy, Kap.
must have been a nightmare to clean up, kap!!
Uh, yeah...
With all the bits of broken glass in it.
when my dad had just come home from the rehab center he decided to make some chicken stock (don't ask); he put it in the fridge in a plastic container
could you have made it into honey bread or something? Oh, no, I guess not - glass in it....
You also should remember not to try to vacuum honey.
a couple of days later he was getting something else out of the fridge and knocked the container on the floor
I didn't do that, but it is a good thing to remember anyway.
Trif, I had the exact same thought until she posted about the glass.
snap molly! You must be scottish too, huh?
Speaking of cleaning... better get back to the cleaning I was doing before I took a break to check email and stuff on here. Fun! bfn
Wise words indeed, Kap. (Note to self... never vacuum glass infested honey...)
Go on, Sue...
Or honey infested glass.
So Kap, what kind of new vacuum are you getting?
no broken glass but it was a LOT of chicken stock, and a bit fatty (he hadn't skimmed it yet) so it made the kitchen floor slippery - took me quite a while to get it to the point where I was willing to let him back in the kitchen
brings to mind a website....www.shitmykidsruined.com
I didn't vvacuum the honey. Nature abhors a vacuum, and so do I.
last thing he needed was to fall again!!
Schmaltz, Sue!
could have been worse, kap: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bPNyK7X Ty6o
exactly, kap! Greased the floor very nicely.
brb. youtube time.
oooh, you guys! Tertiare just asked "mum, when you make the pumpkin pie, can I help?" sweet baby girl!!!!
ROFL LeslieAnn........ been there, got the tee=shirt.
what, mommy? What's the matter mommy? (from the youtube)
why dont the letters add up to the points in fr 5/16
points are doubled for a 5-point word, see the Help above for more details on scoring
thx
of course, the mom in the video just had flour, not flour + honey + broken glass...
:) yvw, cubsnut, and welcome
hello, sue, soodle, trif, kaplan, neil, et al
em 4/8?
nm
hi, dc and mac!
hi, mac
My husband thinks that you-tube was faked.
hello all! only 34 to go and workin on the en words!
got em
kaplan, is that re UC Davis?
He's very suspicious. He thought the video quality was too good- and hey, when did she get the video camera?
No , it was re: the kids dumping flour all over the house.
oh, good :)
looked genuine to me; my phone will take videos of that quality. certainly her reactions, and the actions of the kids, seemed plausible
:)
Hey DC :-) Long time no see, hope all well with you and yours?
Trif, can I borrow your daughter?
She wasn't screaming!
better than in quite some time, yes, soodle, thank you. And you and yours?
I think a lot of the stuff that goes up on YouTube is staged.
yes, and she didn't murder them on the spot, which must have been tempting :-)
Ah, another suspicious one.
tertiare is the best daughter in the whole world she is my favorite out of my other 2 whole UGLE
She wasn't in hysterics. "Oh, my gosh????????????"
Molly - guess who typed that? LOL! That will teach me to leave babble up!
bahaha. i thought that was a strong statement from a mom.
I like her. She's sassy and she offers to help in the kitchen.
YEP SHES THE BEST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :) :)
(LQ)
(LQ) means "laughing quietly." I thought I should be more honest in my descriptions.
I will see Trif's daughter, and raise the bid by another daughter...... (Thats two daughters, by the way...)
(CTM)
okay, enough of that foolishness. we are off to make a pumpkin pie....love to all!
That is "Chuckling to Myself."

Bye, Tri. Make the pie.
Seain, I'm delighted things are good for you!!! We need more good news stories. I am off to bed now, (as us paddies have NO day off tomorrow). To one and all, I wish you a very happy, peaceful and grateful Thanksgiving.
night, soodle!
thank you and sweet dreams, soodle

ty stidmama!
garlic is roasting for the potatoes now :)
yum...for tonight or tomorrow...hello babble friends
do you have the whole bulb in the oven with olive oil?
for tomorrow, they re-heat well. Will make the spinach in the morning, as it does not reheat well, and is good cold too
spinach with toasted pine nuts, garlic, raisins and chopped apples. :)
I am not a spinach fan...but sounds good...but love garlic mashed potatoes
Hi Everyone
espinacas a la catalana the spinach dish is called -- it's really quite lovely
Happy Thanksgiving
hi, river and vermont
and yes, two whole heads with oil, salt, pepper in oven now :)
Dcseain - is it cooked or a salad?
the pine nuts, garlic, plumped raisins and diced apple are cooked to just browned, and the spinach is wilted into that.
great side, wonderful leftover topped with hot eggs over easy, nice bed for fish or fowl... very versatile. The apples are optional and in this case seasonal
It sounds scrumptious. I could easily imagine it as a salad also.
depends on how wilted the spinach is
hi vermont-how much snow did you guys get today?
poor people who lost their electricity!
About a foot - wet and heavy. Took down two trees by the brook onto the back lawn. My husband just finished cutting up 11 trees downed by Irene. Given that they are now snow covered they may remain there until spring. LOL.
so sorry about the trees! I think we got about 8-9 inches here. Very, veryheavy stuff.
Took my sister a long time to get to work as lines were down on their road so it had not been plowed. We had no power issues.
well, the ground there has not had time to dry out since Irene, so Vermont and other impacted areas are bound to loose more trees as the Winter goes on, less the ground freezes fairly quickly.
our plow guys had a hip replacement yesterday and neglectd to line up subs, so ti took a bit of doing to get down the driveway
Yes, in this case the unseasonably warm temps have worked against us.
we are on high ground and have been very, very lucky in all of the storms
Geez, didn't he even let you know ahead of time. Mother Nature often chooses a time to be most inconvenient.
nope.
but a neighbor came and took care of it.
glad you're up high. happily, that's been the case with everyone i know in VT, for which i am very grateful.
news said that several thousand people in the eastern part of the state lost power. That was earlier today, so hopefully they have it back. That would be hard on this particular day. But, of course, there is a lot, lot worse.
We had all those trees down, but that was just a big nuisance. A had a huge willow fall, missing a hydrangea, a lilac, our propane tank, the deck. It struck the roof and a window and damaged neither!!! Can't get any luckier than that. No house damage at all.
wow!
so what's your T-day menu?
One of the best things about living in Vermont is that neighbors are still neighbors and we take care of each other. I was born here, moved a jillion times on both Coasts and came home to roost about 8 miles from where I started.
house is starting to smell garlicky :)
It's an incredible gift to be part of that kind of human web
Not bad smell in my book!
yes, VT strikes me as something of one big family.
the dish sounds wonderful dc-anything with pine nuts and garlic gets my vote
I put up a lot of pesto. Eat it on pretty much everything except dessert
DC, one big family might be stretching it a bit, but I will say VT is a more caring, cooperative place than any other place I have lived.
DC, one big family might be stretching it a bit, but I will say VT is a more caring, cooperative place than any other place I have lived.
Eva, my husband, an LA man, doesn't eat pesto. I love it but don't have it as much as I would like.
oh, how can one not love pesto.
exactly!
gnocchi al pesto is to die for :D
I still have some pine nuts saved from 2 years ago before the pine borer made them cost more than platinum
ah, is that why the doubled in price.
now I mainly make pesto with walnuts and pecans
yes, the pine borer beetle destroyed almost all of the pine trees in New Mexico. But the price has been dropping a bit so maybe they have planted new trees
i do a walnut with parsley and sage pesto sometimes
omg the place is so hot. oven has been on all day
cilantro pesto is also wonderful in quesadillas, but not as stable as basil pesto
i use locatelli romano instead of parmagiano reggiano with that pesto, though
what have you been cooking cos?
apple pie, pumpkin pie, cookies and a cheeseball
yes, do tell, cos :)
I'm too addicted to reggiano for that.
yum!
did you capture the cheeseball from orbit?
last year we made dinner. .this year just dessert the bro in law is making dinner this time.
no ?? it's a christmas tree cheeseball lol
nice, cos
Wooo hooo! Sounds fabulous, Cos!!!
shaped in a tree, covered with chives
sounds lovely, cos
I did a french pear tart, a blueberry tart, the stuffing, and brined the turkey. guests are bringing Szechuan tofu, salad, and some sort of vegetetarina puff pastry thing.
mother in law is bringing roasted chestnuts and pickle/cream cheese wrapped in ham (its an iowa thing).. and of course there'll be turkey and dressin
god it's been a long time since I had chestnuts. The ham/pickle thing I can pass on.
the pickle cream cheese wrapped in ham is tastier than you'd expect.
I grew up in NYC before the chesnut blight and in the winter there were street vendors who roasted chestnuts from their carts. I can still remember the smell.
oh, i remember street vendors roasting nuts when i lived in Boston. That does not happen here in DC
nothing like a bag of hot nuts on a cold day :)
there was always one outside of the Museum of Natural HIstory.
getting tired. big day tomorrow so I think I'll call it a night. Hope everyone has a peaceful day tomorrow-always a dubious proposition when with family(-:
i thought the ham/pickle would be gross but its pretty good
just put last batch of cookie in oven..thank god .. i can turn it off in 10 mins
g'night and a happy thanksgiving to you and yours, Eva
I just checked the garlic and put it back in for 15
ooh ghostbusters on vh-1
What kind of cookies Cos?
its chocolate chip cookies without the chips. i just put in a hersey kiss and use a mini muffin tray
all from scratch
Hello all....how many this fine pre-thanks eve?
flot
Owwwwww
117
thank you :)
i'm down to 12. slowing down quite a bit
hi again, everyone! jpw
how's it going?
hi all. who has a list today?
lickety is up
lickety is up and running LA
but neil also has a list in his profile
a smoot is a unit of measure
don't sm7 me, mo6! :)
ok thanks. i am getting a "reported attack page" notification from lickety
well, found the other 8 :)
negativeneil has stats on his profile, leslie
a link to stats actually.
LA, the attack page is bogus. MRP says the site is safe, and others have had no problems with it. just click on the button that says ignore warning. it's a google thing
molly disagrees. she says google analytic says it's a software issue i dont know. i use expert though
i use expert also. haven't had any problems with it. I would assume they are linked.
right. no problems here either. i scan for virus frequently and never an issue.
yup, we think alike, cos
ugh. i have to make the cheeseball. blah. ill be back after
have fun, cos
cheeseball sounds delicious though
later, cos
i'm gonna go prep the taters for boiling, bbs
later, dc
The cookies sound delicious Cos.
th7? my last one
Hi LA. th7 = Egyptia magic. A bit like theology but not quite the same.
Hi
Hi Herin.
*EgyptiaN, that should have read.
Howdy
Happy ThanksGiving to the USA peeps
I'm exhausted with trying to keep up with Babblers, about half a dozen of them, playing Words with Friends on FB with me. They go at a pace!
Happy Thanksgiving to all those across The Pond.
I don't play that as that is one more distraction I don't need
O and my STUPID phone deleted all my reminders
ty herin and Jac for the greetings for our thanksgiving.
Glad I don't use my mobile phone for more than making/recieving calls and texts. I put £10 of credit on it about 18 months ago and need to refill it now it's down to £1. 8o something.
Mine is my land line
Oh, is is Herin? Don't do any fancy stuff on that either. I write reminders on my wall calendar. I'm old-fashioned that way.
Thanks for the Thanksgiving greetings. Whew, I'm glad this only rolls around once a year. I've been in the kitchen all afternoon. : )
Hey Molly.
My land line now costs MORE to have than it costs to use and we are seriously thinking of getting rid of it.
Hey Herin
Hi Molly. Must be tough having to to Thanksgiving and then Christmas, then New Year.
2 left FE5/20 and MU5/24 any clues please
Jac we don't have a land line because of the fact we think it is so bloody stupid to pay $40 just to have it connected
Herin - I thought you just said you had a land line?
Hi Herin
No I said that my phone is my land line
cubsnut - fe5/20 is your thigh bone.
fe5.20 is a leg bone, cubsnut
As in my mobile.
Hi Meow
mu5.24 is mu + latin for king or actor *** Harrison
evening all
cubsnut - mu5/24 is just like the work for a sparkly dress material which begins with 'lu'.
Hi Jess.
HI Jess
In much of Vermont, including where I live we have no cell coverage. Don't miss what you never had.
Herin - we don't call mobile phones land lines here in UK. The land line is the BT line.
Jac my mobile is my land line. We call it Land line or Telstra
worD, not work! cubsnut. Sorry.
th5. potatoes on stove. should be boiling in a bit. :)
fireworks tnx
hi dawg, jes, herin, jac :)
yay cubs!
w/d cubsnut & y/w.
Hi dcs.
Congrts Cubsnut!
my first complete babble
Yah Cubs
Oh, Double Congrats, Cubs!
Congrats, cubsnut!!!!!!
MEow. I couldn't live without my phone but having said that I don't have it attached in public
YAH Cubs and welcome to the nut house
congrats, cubsnut
first time is way exciting :)
dcs??
Hi DC
I'm in the old fashioned corner with Jac. I still have a wall calendar and I use my cell phone for making phone calls. That's it.
yes, jacula?
Oh, the first time finishing Babble, I guess you meant, dcs? LOL
yes indeed :)
Molly - I'm more old-fashioned than you. I use my land line (plugged and wired in BT phone) for making calls and only use the mobile (cell) phone if I have to. I have no desire to fry my brain.
I'm glad you meant finishing Babble, dcs, 'cos the other kind of first time is often a disappointment to most people, from what I've read.
Jacula.....good one....LOL
(I thought the same thing)
Herin, it like I said - if you have never had it you don't miss it. I find many mobile/cell phone users incredibly rude in public. And driving and texting is utterly insane. When I was commuting 70 miles a day I would have welcomed one but now that I am retired I'm ok with out one. Our kids and grandkids use them to talk to each other inside their home. Arrrggghhh!
fireworks
Well done, jes.
congrats, jes
Congrats Jesdraggon
i've been without a landline since 2003
Congrats, jes!!!!!!
agreed re first times, jac :)
VermontM - have you never received a text from one of yur kids or grandkids from elsewhere in the house, asking for a cup of tea/coffee or whatever, or asking when dinner's ready? That's a real AAARRGHH!
Western butter quarters are so weird compared to the Eastern ones i'm accustomed to.
No, I don't have a cell because we have no coverage. But the kids and grands, who all live on the West Coast, do that to each other. Even inside a car together.
May I please have a clue for he5-26? Thanks
We need our landline (UK hardwired phone) connected for 2 reasons. 1) My Mum and other older relatives still haven't got the hang of using their mobile phones. 2) SKY TV needs it. 3) We don't want to fry our brains.
I find most of the whole texting phenomenon extremely silly.
dcseain - It was hard for me to get used to that when I first lived on W Coast. Don't fit in standard butter dishes either.
Oh, that was 3 reasons - maybe my brain's fried by Babble already, which is a shame, since I only came here after my Dad died of dementia, to help keep my brain active!:-(
Jacula - Landlines are a whole different story. We have a landline.
Well, I've only been Babbling for a week or so but I can see that I will be a babbling ejit before long. LOL!
he5 -- hydrocarbon with an alcohol-like ending
Remember when you knew everyone's phone number?
VermontM - you might become an eejit who knows all the Babblets, though! ;-)
Hi Concepta - Yes, I do!
Trader Joe's only sells Western quarters, which i bought one day while there.
Thanks much, dcs.....still looking.
i still remember phone numbers from decades ago, some still even ring the same people.
western quarters?
The last time I heard the name 'Concepta' was 'Concepta Hewitt', a barmaid at the Rover's Return, who was mechanic Harry Hewitt's wife in Coronation Street back in the 1960s.
Hey anyone I missed I have been doing the thing I have to do to get when you get a new number
Concepta that is still me
That he5/26 is put a curse on somebody + sometimes vowel plus perpindicular letter gapeach1066 and hello
Yup, me too. I still know the main phone number of places I worked at 30+ years ago.
butter quarters from the West are shaped differently than the ones here in the East. Shorter in length and taller. 1.5 of their Tbs equals one of ours length-wise
Butter quarters are short and fat on the west coast.
ah, like kellers stubby quarters
Happy Thanksgiving to all in US I am just back from Washington and Nashville ....... Strange combination
there was a whole long thread on FB about 703.361.7171, which was the time and temp number where i grew up.
were you in DC Concepta, or Washington State?
hi all
hi jmc
howdy everyone:)
DC ... I took the name Concepta after a girl in work who hid her name for years
Hi Crossy.
Crossie hugs
Butter is just sold in pound or half-pounds pats here in UK.
Thanks so much, Min.
Must make tea. brb
butter here is sold in pounds, wrapped in quarters
Concepta - I thought you might know about the Coronation St connection, being Irish.
Weird, dcs.
you can buy a half pound of butter too and still in quarters
Ah of course I do .... Everyone I know is addicted but I'm a Downton Abbey girl
Just buy half a pound and quater it?
hi Min. Just noticed you down there.
MINIIIIIII Hugs
it is wrapped in quarters of the half pound so 4 pieces in a box equal to 1/2 pound of butter
ty min
Concepta - Downton Abbey is v.good but there's not a Concepta there, just an Irish ex-wife, very ex now, since she did herself in, and she was Henry XIII's first wife in The Tudors.
HI JM
hi herin everyone was so wrapped up in conversation no one noticed me! :-D
jmc - more like wrapped in butter - quarter pound at a time.:-)
I did notice you I am tying to get stuff fixed
haha
but you didn't notice me! haha
sorry i misread your note herin
I am trying to instal games on my pc
what are you installing?

ah
i hesitate to say i have that on my cell phone

Cross I have all Sims 1 and 2 and 3
and every store item but I didn't pay for them
Versatile actress then, Concepta.
em 4/8 is a very common babblet
Sims - not me.
lol herin,you are addicted
use the bottom left corner E VT
em+ 2 cons
No an addict admits a problem I don't admit it
So many addicts here! LOL
i am not addicted to babble..i have quit many times...
Nope not admitting nothing :D
uh so a heroin user is not an addict as long as they don't admit to it??
Yes indeed, anyway giving up here for the moment trying to get over this jet lag bfn
hi, I am jmcnrick and i am a babbleholic
well as long as sims does not affect herins health lol
Cross no that would be Fallout New Vegas :D
See you another time, Concepta. ttfn.
Well I better look that up. I never heard of such a word. LOL! Thanks Crosshair. Fireworks.
my addictions are bioshock, half life 2 and oblivion
Good evening to my fellow babblers! How is everyone?

Hi he4/5infe4/7allady! Parts of your name are in grid
i also have bioshock 2 and hope to break it open soon
i use win 7 for it
I got the sexy shiny box set
I've been trying to write a poem about the loss of a much-loved pet (specifically a dog) in the light of Haz's Spangle being put to sleep on 21st and another friend's spaniel, same age, the week before. My old dog went on his last journey to the vet's some 15 years ago now, I've never had another dog yet and I only feel ready now to write about the loss. Most of the poem is written but I'll finish it off and edit over the next couple of days, preferably after this horrible cold virus leaves me.
as did i,the collectors set
E's Excelled! 5 left
i lokk forward to reading it jacula
very sad about spangle
oh I'm really sorry to hear that .. I know how Haz loved that dog
jmc - yes. I used to imagine Haz and Spangle out on their walks.
hi ru check out your handywork in my icon
HI Ru.
it's so hard to lose them
Cross is that the box with the vynil and suchj?

looking herin...
Hello rururocks! How are you doing? Welcome to grid.
hi herin
hi minver
hi jm.. checking right now
yes herin,record,audio cds,etc
oh,dear, did not about Spangle
Hi ruru
did not know about Spangle,even
i am not very good using paint
nice.. I'm happy my suggestion helped
It looks great JM
it did, my prof was impressed
hi vermont
Sounds like my set. Yes poor darling Spangle
Haz said that the hardest thing to bear at the time was seeing her husband, a giant of a man and also a vet, losing control of his emotions and apologising to his colleagues for doing so. I don't know if he 'did the deed' but I imagine he did as a last act of love and kindness for a much-loved pet. As I said to Haz., 'It's different when it's your own pet.'
oh it is hard to see your hubby cry
His colleagues understood that.
jmc - yes, it is.
Oh, thats a tough one Jacula. Very ssorry.
IT's hard to lose your "heart" dog.. it is a very great loss
well i hope haz knows how much everyone's hearts go out to her and her husband
I've taken care of and lived with many dogs.. but there is always that one dog that gets in so deep you can't breath...I understand that bond
had it 6 months herin and i have not even removed the shrink wrap yet
speaking of dogs ru . . . .
it is sad when a beloved pet is called onward
woof!
Like I said, ruru - it's taken me 15 years (another dog life) to even write about losing my last one. Cats came into my life after that. There'd be another dog about now, but the cat I have would never allow that!
i have heard so little of you dog i have forgotten his name
ahem that is "your dog"
I don't think we could own another dog
dylan?
My dog was Monty.. he lived 15 and 1/4 years.. I've never experienced a love so deep.. Dylan is my current dog.. he's a great boy.. but it's not Monty.. it can never be again
no new dylan pics in a long time
yes.. I am computer challenged
Ru would rather give us a deformed Douge :/
haha
My last dog was called Patch and he lived to be almost 18. He's still with me now, at times, as is my old cat Kira.

I know what you mean jac.. Monty is with me always.
go jmc go!
hey all
hey stidders
hi stiddie
I've no doubt my present cat, who still misses Kira, even though they didn't get on, will be back to patrol his territory even after he's 'gone'.
Hi Stid.
Hi Stid
B.f had a dog she lived till 15/16 he had raised her
hi all. here for my last 11
Hi M9.
hi m9 long time no see
the thing is .. that the big rip off with pets is that they don't live as long as we do.. the gift of love and friendship is so worth it even for that short time.. that you are a better person for that relationship and time
Well said, ruru!
hey m
you could get a parrot ru :-)

my neighbors now foster dogs
go min go
Hi stidmama! How are you doing? Welcome to the grid
Hello m9f9l!How are you doing? Welcome to the puzzle
I don't think I could do fostering either of kids or pets; I'd get too fond and then have to let go.
I like birds.. but they can't go out for a walk with you..lol
they take encouregable dogs and retrain them so that others will take them
go Min go!
ruru - you can teach parrots to swear at people you don't like. LOL
I think I will list, not seeing more for the last several minutes
incorrigible that is
*note to self to send Dylan to JMC's neighbors*
When my friend was alive (and so was his kitty) he used to take her for walks.
ru already swears at people he doesn't like
they only take labs ru
no shit
I think you can take parrots for walks.
5lbs potatoes mashed for 10 people enough you think?
clue for re 5/22 please
Herin - I tried doing the collar and lead (leash to our friends in the USA) thing with both our cats. It did NOT go down well.
not if that is all they eat dc
O DC you know what rocks with Mash Potatos
add country south of the border, jmc
wow seain, I hope it is... you ARE serving additional dishes, right? ;-)
re5/22:re + beginning of country south of the border
dc - more than enough, I would think!
hmm.. 1/2 lb per person...
oh, yes :)
Jac she wasn't on a collar and leash
ty dc and min
a ask because i can eat a pound of that myself
Dc you get butter and melt it with garlic. Mash that into potota
that is plenty dc
I am done! I have fireworks!sm7/52 was my last word
YAH MIni
gaaarrrlic! mmmmmmmm
congrats, minver
I meant sm 7:36 was my last word
whoo hoo min
5 lbs is plenty DC
Tim says at the restaurant they run about 6 or 7 oz for mashed potatos
Congrats, Min!!!!!!
for a highly controlled cafeteria style.. 4 oz
My two stupids are trained for collar and harness
herin - my present cat wants to come for walks with me when I leave the house, but, though he was once a stray, he won't leave a certain distance from the house now and yowls at me when I leave his self-imposed boundaries.
herin, 5lbs potatoes, 3/lb butter, half liter heavy cream, two heads of roasted garlic, salt and pepper all mashed together
3/8 lb butter that should read
Droooooooooooooool
Minus the cream
that's cute jac..
for a thanksgiving meal with lots of other food 4 oz is plenty
woah... 3 lbs of butter?!?
lots of pepper
The thing about Thanksgiving is, people usually take smaller servings of things because there are so many dishes. 5lbs for ten people is plenty.
uh that may be too much butter
a stick and a half is not that much
YAY Min!!!!
DC you sending this to me?
whew i was still on the 3 lbs
hi babblers!
you said 3 lbs!LOL
hi shdy
i corrected to 3/8 lb immediately
hi, shdy
I still haven't the faintest idea what a STICK of butter is!
a stick is 1/4 lb
hi jmny, seain
oh! I just read back!LOL
dcs - yes, I saw your correction and the mix is about right.
alll this talk of food is making me very nausiated.
ask Marlon Brando Jac..lol
.25 of a Pound Jac
113 grams
ruru - that is CRUDE! LOL
i would use more butter than that but i am a butterholic
hi shdy!!
Jacula, a stick of butter is 8 tablespoons
Or thus a quater?
*make lbd a cup of ginger tea*
LOL.. couldn't pass on that
off topic for a sec, anyone know how to randomly post something to the public without one's own page?
Herin - so that's back to the quarter of a pound wrapped butter again.
Hi lbd!! *hugs*
hi herin, ruru, stid!!
(((SHDY)))
hey shady and all who have come in.... down to ten and deep in thought. *thinking mama look*
hi Shady
Ok SO I have just had the joys of seeing the new barbie advert. Just wondering when did Barbie get to look like a whore and Ken like a douche?
there are various blogs and websites shdy
go stiddy!!
HI Shady
haven't they always?
1981 as i recall
help, jmny, want to share a ppsx, without e-mailing every person
Herin - I thought Barbie and Ken got divorced years ago??
no when they first arrived on the scene ken was very cute for the times
this isn't a deformed dog herin.. he just has a little bunderbite.
well there is google docs and then email the link shdy
too darn cute, ruru
underbite.. rather
he is cute
he's got attitude, ru
fyreworks!!!!! my last was a fishy t4.
what would a bunderbite be though?
Douges shouldn't have underbites
i was trying to decipher what a bunderbite was
whoo hooo stiddy
Well done, stid! *~*~*~*~*
i read it as blunderbite, which kinda worked for me,lol
wtg stid!
yeah stid.
Ken has always been a douche. But then, he is "equipment-less". : )
congrats, stid
It is a sign of a deformed jaw and poor breeding
:-D
I know.. I agree herin
Molly - LOL. Me and my friends found the same was true of Sindy's boyfriend Paul when we finally unpacked him and opened his flies.
not true moll he was quite a cool looking guy in 1961
i have made a nice memorial to the shdy part of my name, don't know how to share it easily, help!!!
fw as well. Listed for those last 11. Only felt sheepish about a couple!
whoo hooo m9

Douges are fantastic pups though. Except when 130 pounds of dog is on you
old and sore jmc
Douges were the native people where i grew up
oops, Dougues :"> i can spell, really
YAY m!
jmc - rh5 is a word for discharge or catarrh. (Not sured if I spelled that last word correctly.)
wow, i blink and a bunch of fireworks happen! congrats y'all
I listed for the last 20, most surprisingly not fishy
jmc - very old people are often described as having rh6/33 eyes.
Or at least one rh6/33 eye.
I remember the tv show the Three Douges
ty all
Larry, Moe, and Curly
oh.. and what about Douges Houser!
I must have missed something. I have no idea where the Douges discussion suddenly came from.

go jmc go - evening all!
I know I'm strung out from too much time in the kitchen, but this has been a very strange conversation to check in and out of.
hi dan
why so molls? more than usual?
(although ru has yet to explain why he hoped i was dead)
th7, anybody? it's my last
fw
I don't know. Butter is butter, no matter where it comes from. Douches to douges. And I haven't the faintest what the whole you are dead thing meant. It's kind of Twilight Zone-ish. Mayhap I should pour an Irish.
th+vowel+sex party with different first vowel
mmmmm i hear a jack calling my name
hahah jmc thanks - that's firewords
whoo hooo dan
Happy Muppet Movie weekend, everyone!
even if i have been sorta invisible tonight
I'm coining a new word due to that th7. ur4. And urgent orgy.
i am already waiting for the video release dan
whooo hoooo DAN!!
haha molls good word!
but i thought all orgies were urgies
You have a point JMC. What are you doing for Thanksgiving?
i am sitting at home eating chicken and canned cranberry sauce by myself and very happy about it
i take it you are having the family
<--still waiting for someone to whoo hoo fw at 9:34
*sniff*
There is definitely some beauty and simplicity in that. I am having an abbreviated version of the family. My daughter in law is in the hospital with a Crohn's flare up so we will be minus her and one of my boys, her husband. WHOOO HOOO JMC FOR FIREWORKS!!!!!
oh too bad about your dil -- hospital is the worst place to be on any holiday
ty for the whoo hoo
She's a nurse, she knows the drill. It's been a weird year for my family. We have had to cancel a lot of birthdays and holiday stuff for various reasons. I had my boo hoo fest about them not being here tomorrow and got over it.
that is how i deal with disappointment too--give myself a private (or not so private cry) and then move on
hopefully you are together when it really counts
well i think i am going to go read a romance novel and drink some jack and wait for sleep to tiptoe into my boudoir
hey all
<---wishes a really cute guy would tiptoe in but is willing to make do with sleep
hi jen
hi jmc, are you babbling to yourself again?
guess not
always since there is no one at my house to babble to
me neither
wooo hooooo jmc!
sorry was dealing with baby
just setting up my gift box account for christmas

baby 2bit takes first place!
whoooo hoooooo JMC!!! (sorry was writing down a recipe)
everyone has an excuse! haha
its fine i don't really mind -- just making a scene to be cure
ah, how old is the baby?
er cute
see my profile photo, JenMO
ok
i need to organize my recipes better, like put all the ones i make for holidays in one place! what a novel idea, huh
oh dan i had not seen the halloween costume how adorable
she's adorable!
very novel lbd
i keep thinking i will write a cookbook for the boy for christmas but never get around to it
well i am really off now have a good thanksgiving if i don't see you tomorrow
i don't think anyone wants my recipes. I mostly cook by sight and smell. get an idea and work from there. not much is measured.

*pooof*

bye ibd
hi friends :)
Hi mrpresident! How are you doing? Welcome to grid.
Hi mrp.
sorry, was called away to the phone :)) Hi girls and happy thanksgiving day
wow, you have halloween, thanksgiving and then christmas very close together!! busy time of the year :))
Hello all -- getting ready for the big day?
just wandering back through. anything interesting going on?
We had our Canadian Thanksgiving in October
Hi everybody. I've slacked off on housework to the point that if my house isn't clean enough; so be it!
Hello jillibus! How are you doing? Welcome to the grid.
Hello jessdraggon! How are you? Welcome to the grid.
Hello Nef! How are you doing? Welcome to the puzzle.
(Our Thanksgiving is going to be very small this year; just the 6 of us (DH, myself, kids, DIL, and grandson. We are eating out
Eating out sounds like a very good idea, Nef -- we did a lot of that in my NYC days
6 is small?
mrp -- do you have an Australian Thanksgiving in your fall -- ie March-ish?
It's kind of strange; but it seems that every time a relative has died in our family (since DH and I married, at least) we've eaten out for the first holiday after the death. It sounds dumb; but it's becoming a tradition it seems. It makes that holiday "different" and the next one (ie: Christmas) so much better
6 is very small, jilli. We are used to 10-14 + for Thanksgiving
I guess you'll have to get used to that, Nef.
we don't have thanksgiving here.
Thanksgiving isn't nearly as big a deal here, Nef -- Christmas is the biggie.
yes, jilli; I will have to get used to it. I overheard someone on MPR today say something about when the older generation dies out, one is faced with one's own mortality. I think that that is it for me
Well, mrp, in the US it all has to do with the pilgrims and the welcome they got from the Indians. A bit different in Aus, right?
too right!
Nef, at my age more and more friends and family are dropping off the perch -- sad, but that's always been the way it is.
there was good blood between the indigenous people at first, then the free settlers arrived and it all went pear-shaped
jilli, I always think that the Canadian Thanksgiving is about a month too early. When I lived in NW MN; the Canadians would come down to the States to shop.
Nef -- our winter arrives earlier than yours, hence October harvests!
we celebrate Labour Day in October... is in recognition of all Australians who work full time... it is a celebration for the contribution they make to our country
very true, jilli; but it still seemed odd to me
mrp, that book I asked you about -- "The Little Black Princess" was so delightful about the Australian indigenous people but so full of currently shocking words. Things are similar here, but without the words.
Our similar Labour Day is in September.
Our Labor Day is also in September
When I say things are similar I don't quite mean it.
and so the free-settler English screwed up the relationship with the indigenous people due to class disparity... and racism... the convicts and mariners did not have issue however. Is amazing our history and how nasty it became.
understand jilli :))
Nef -- ours is the same as yours.
mrp, that book I mentioned was written in 1929 -- full of love for the indigenous Australians.
the first fleeters and years of convicts later, they were working side by side with the aboriginal people... it is now very very rare to find a true blue blood aboriginal.
I wish you could get that book -- published in Melbourne. My Canberra cousins actually met the author.
Sorry, I was just Googling that book you mentioned, jilli. Is the title "The little black princess of the Never-Never" or something else (I'm finding 2 authors listed for that one
i will have to look for it jilli
I am going to be. Because you do NOT want me to get going about what we (Europeans) did to the indigenous people of the Americas.
That said, don't forget to listen to Alice's Restaurant at noon Thursday. Happy Thanksgiving! Good night.
Ooops. I am going to be - and going to bed.
night VM
good night and Happy Thanksgiving to you vermontMeow
It was written by Mrs Aeneas Gunn. She didn't even rate her own name back then, just her husband's.
It seems I don't have the right title for the book; I'll keep looking
Thanks folks. Enjoy the next grid.
Goodbye VermontMeow! I'll see you tomorrow maybe.
g'night Meow -- prrrrr.
Was able to finish puzzle without feeling like a do4/5 Now he4/5 is a story of clues. When I was little,I had an extremely gr4/8 accident in my bedroom of my ho 4/6. I accidently dropped a knife on my fo 4/7. I was not wearing any sh 4/5s so the tip of knife went into my toe and I bled a lot. My Mom and I had to ho4/8 it on over to the hospital so they could treat me.My mo 6/24 drove like a total maniac beeping her ho 4/5 on the way to hospital. She gunned the engine so hard, I thought that she was going to burn out the mo 5/12. Mom and I were in the waiting room a me 4/5 th5/12 minutes when th4/7 called us in.Didn't like my doctor th 5/12. The doctor asked how I got a knife stuck in my toe. Thought it was a mo 4/5 point, I just wanted him to get the knife out! My doctor was not very sm 6/24 about taking the knife out. He just to4/4 it out with no warning. I thought he could have treated me a little bit sm 8/50. Before I left,he to4/5 me I should be more careful when using knives. I still gr4/7 when I remember the incident. My hubby thought it was a ho 4/6 when I to 4/5 him about it. Sh5/12! My fe 4/7 wants the computer. I'm going to go do some ot 5/12 things.I might be back at the flip I mo 4/5 not. Adios!
Thanks you min! Quite a story!
yw
I have to quite early tonight and get up early in the morning -- appointment at the local hospital, 8 am, to undergosome spot removal on my chin. :-((
*quit, not quite
Oh phooey, typos already
thanks for the story, Min. it is kind of gory, but also interesting
good night jilli. I hope all goes well with your procedure
Gnight, nef --did you read about Franksgiving?
Are you getting it removed with a laser jillibus? Good luck with that. I hope that all goes well with it jillibus.
No, min -- surgery -- it's a bcc
no; jilli. Where is that?
and it's a recurrence
wow, i just got a phone call from my association... i got a badge of honour this month!!
In my profile, nef, with a link.
(((jilli))) too much sun over the years?
Oh, WONDERFUL mrp -- you sure deserve one!
thanks, jilli. I shall read it!
Congratulations mrpresident on your badge of honor!
Oh yes, nef , and very fair skin. Bugger.
the level 1 teams (top teams) are voting me as one of the best referees! (this week anyway - LOL!)
My dad keeps getting something removed that keeps on coming back. Not sure what the point of removing it all the time if it's just going to keep on coming back
WOW, mrp -- that's the kind of boost you really can use now, right?
jilli! best of luck with your surgery darling... get everything removed whenever it pops up...
it is the best kind of boost I can get!! These teams i have been reffing actually think highly of me!?? wow!! that is such a great feeling to be doing my job well!
Thanks, mrp and nef -- it's just minor but on my FACE, dammit.
jilli, I have to keep an eye on DH's ears for the ssame reason. He's had a number bcc's removed and I picture him as having chips off his ears if he reaches his 90's
What do you referee?Didn't know that you were a ref
mrp; you really deserve a break right now. What an honor
Nef, i'm also concerned about something on my nose. That would need plastic surgery, gaaa!
My father's is on the tip of his nose. I never seem to notice it.Maybe because he keeps getting it removed
min, i referee football (soccer)... all ages and all levels
is my job :)) and one that I love!
Well, no sense borrowing trouble -- one spot removal at a time, lol!
jilli, I hope and pray the nose is "just" a benign keratosis. I'll be think ing of you tomorrow
mrp, I hope you get well paid for your job!
nef, my son has those! he gets them removed as they pop up
Nef, it's not a keratosis -- more like an active bloodvessel.
Hey,referee could be a phantom word in today's grid.
lol -- referoo -- an Australian referee?
i do get paid well... i have to run like a stallion in the bloody rain, keeping up with men that are young and fit... and i like chasing men! so getting paid to keep fit and chase me is pretty awesome! LOL
LOL jillibus!
hahaha!! good one jilli!!
LOL!
Any guesses for the next grid size?I guess 264 words.
225
522
180 i think
Hope not!No time to finish 522 words on Thanksgiving
mrp -- how do you know what clues to put up?
it just peeves me that on a saturday, we sometimes get 46 word grids.... frustratingly short!
