The news just came on,isn't that shooting in Va.state UN. awful!!! 32 students killed!
It's dreadful - we were talking about it yesterday evening (afternoon your time)
Awful - so many innocents killed. Hopefully this will, like it did in Australia, spur on some tougher guns laws in the US.
They said the killer was only 19yrs. old,what could be so awful in life that would possess a person to comitt such a dreadful act? ;-(
You can only surmise that the balance of his mind was completely blown - whether through circumstances or drugs or what we don't know. But the combination of a disturbed mind and the possession of firearms has been proved to be deadly once again.
They said on the news here that it might have started as a 'domestic' ??? - there was a smaller shooting (on the campus - 2 people shot/killed) a couple of hours before the 'main' one

It isn't the gun laws as much as it is the sick minds of our youth all over the world! They can't deal with reality!!
I remember watching as 9/11 unfolded and thinking, like so many others, that it was like watching a film. It struck me that we have allowed ourselves to be entertained by violence and bloodshed and that it has been wrong.
This is true hodag. We are currently having problems with young males either being shot or knifed. Why the need to carry weapons in the first place?
My goodness not long ago in Detroit a 10yr. old student took a gun to school an shot anther student to death! Who do you blame the kid or the parents or the world in which we live?
The gun should definitely not have been available to a child. And if that child had problems, why not tell the parents to let them deal with it. Am I idealistic, or what?!

As working parents, you and your parents before you have made adequate provision for your children to be looked after in your absence. I think in many inner-city situations, children are NOT properly supervised and are left to their own devices.

watching 'bowling for columbine' was the biggest eye-opener for me and everyone I know who watched it... we had the port arthur massacre, 35 dead... it changed out gun laws forever
the federal government called for all illegal firearms to be surrendered without penalty, and there were more than half a million guns turned in... how sad that we had that on our streets
I think you'll find that here any firearms are supposed to be licensed and held under lock and key. Having said that, unfortunately access to illegal weapons is also possible. It does seem that the gun lobbly in the US seems to hold a gun to the head over these issues. Why can the government not be stronger and stand up to them?
I agree that you must do everything possible to prevent such tragedies, whilst accepting that it won't be possible to stop them all. The Dunblane killings in Scotland (16 children aged 5 and their teacher shot) were carried out by a man with legally held fire-arms. After that, gun laws became even more draconian, but shootings still happen.
