it is damn near impossible to make a living in the arts regardless of your craft, i know that for a fact from my own life. my experience also indicates that despite taping, mp3 downloads and digital copies of various forms, if you're good enough to warrant "stealing"from the chances are that there are fans that will support you. it is no longer possible to just create something and poke it out into the market and expect cheques to show up.

traditional publishers have frozen out a lot of the genre and small market authors anyway. they've retreated behind the fortress walls and are pursuing the big sellers almost exclusively. these are fascinating times for the creative set. i love the breadth of new voices and ideas available that would never have seen the light in years past.

there are a number of factors at work in the sea change of creative endeavour. the monolithic distribution and reproduction systems have or are falling by the wayside. there is also the downward proliferation of technology making every one of us capable in the technological sense, of becoming creators. i'll add that every one of the folks here with an avatar beside their name that they didn't produce or seek permission for is technically a pirate too lol.
I think it's the only real way for non-fiction epics. Academics adn specialists like books on their hands

libraries are getting hit hard by the digital but also by the other side. restrictive copyright and rights maintenance has lashed the library system. those are actual bills as opposed to potential lost income. crossy, you'll appreciate this, the nfb, canada's incredible, public funded film resource is actively pulling documentaries offf the shelves. not because they're being pirated but because the old world ip industry is charging enormous sums for rights maintenance.

Herin - cats need a high fat diet and so they crave that kind of stuff, even if it makes them sick at times, like Tiggs last week when he sneaked out and ate the fatty rinds I'd cut off 6 bacon slices. Maybe if they'd been cooked he wouldn't have been sick, but he was and he did it on the beige carpet in the sitting room and stepdaughter stood on it with her ba4 foot. Yuck! LOL!

You can lead aty cat to water but you cannot make it drink (the mangle an old saying). You must try to get liquid into their everyday diet and the best way to do that is to give them unsalted home-cooked stuff.

But, it's a bit of a difficult situation... I was truthful with her (the mum) when she told me about how much her ill daughter missed my daughter. My daughter had to 'dump' her daughter for the sake of both of their health. Compicated thing that only parents of kids with eating disorders would understand, so I won't go into it. However, she knew why but wants to get back in touch with me now. I'm not sure... life has moved on for all of us here and, since she's a mum, I'm still not sure she's not looking for a way to get her daughter back in touch with mine. Ad that's not going to happen unless my daughter chooses to make it so. I'll make sure of that.
