the aim is to get all the words, then go back and look for your sanity

Oh -- around Canberra?
and I like the colours too. ACT is a small Territory within the borders of NSW, and that is where the capital city of Australia is... just amazes me that most maps of australia don't show it

Yep, Canberra is in the ACT

de4 doesn't just have to describe a person. This chat log is de6 some times more than others.
hhhmmmm.....like last night?
Maybe!
It is getting quite common for the log to be silent for at least an hour or so at certain times these days.
Hello FM! Yes, it's the new, brooding and silent face of babble.
Evening/morning rose and Haz
rolin- s
rolin - s
are you around
Whats the grid like today?
It's okay so far, but I'm only halfway through so anything could happen.
Did you agree with the estimation of yesterday's grid?
I enjoyed it and enjoyed having time to actually do a grid.
Good! I thought you'd like it.
Saw a funny sight yesterday - It was very blustery and lots of autumn leaves falling and there a a guy with one of those garden blowers trying to blow leaves off a front garden - talk about a losing battle.
LOL you know me too well Haz :)
hey mitch,demi
But if you've got a machine, you're duty-bound to use it.
Hello grannyrose.
and haz, my dear.
apologies haz, thought i had greeted you before.
You probably had, I was just making sure that I said hello to you!
I'm still hoping for that arthrodesis to appear in the grid. You're obviously still in a lot of pain thanks to it.
haz, i have the brain-span of a gnat at the moment...all these pain meds....very frustrating
I hope it gets better soon, living with pain is not easy.
pain improves a little each day, started hydro therapy last friday, 3 sessions per week. makes life a lile more interesting, to say theleast
* little *
It's great that you're seeing improvement even if it's slow progress at times.
surgeon very pleased, radiologically i'm ahead of schedule, just have to increase my tolerance of weight-bearing. i'm getting there
and the hydrotherapy is going to help I am sure. A great way to gently exercise and support the healing process.
love the hydro, i stood in front of one of he jets, had a lovely warm water massage * grin *
I imagine the worst bit is getting in and out of swimming stuff.
This is the 290th day of the year, with 75 days remaining in 2009.
Good morning, BabbleRabble. I bought my new diary insert for 2010 yesterday.
Good morning, Haz ... may 2010 be the best year ever for mankind.
Indeed!
weeellllll....not exactly, getting OUT of the pool was difficult, i had to back up the steps on my bum, very funny.then when i got to the top, i had to roll over onto my knees and pull myself up! (anything was better than using the hoist, tres embarrassing )
My tip for investment is to buy shares in Filofax. They must be making huge profits judging by the prices they charge for a few sheets of paper.
g'day babrab.thanx for the day count ( not ) the holiday season is closing in too fast
You've kept your sense of humour intact, grannyrose, that has to count for something in the healing process.
we've had seasonal cards and decs on the shelves in our stores for nearly a month now!!!!
You are doing what you must, grannyrose. No embarrassment about being determined to get better.
I know. You start to get confused with 'back to school' mingling with Halloween masks and dancing Santas.
Greetings BR, just read part of your bio, always have to copy and paste them for reading as there is so much to take in. Wish i could sit by a fountain and talk to an aged one and listen to their history.
babrab, picture a whale in a granny swimsuit....that's me
Oh Haz, - was in a supermarket last week and they had Christmas cards next to Halloween things, why not just throw in a few Easter eggs?
let's just say...the water level rose somewhat after i got into the pool * grin *
I am fortunate my Mother is still here. I too, think I could be a listener. Good day, FM
I think it can also depend on the personality of the older person, whether they feel willing to share the details of what might seem to them to be an ordinary life, or the details of experiences they'd rather forget.
mitch, they roll out the easter eggs about boxing day he4....really annoying. i mean, who is going to buy their easter eggs in january?
Whether the older person has had an exciting life or not the one thing they all have is experience and that is something we can learn from.
Simply listening and not trying to fix or suggest is a skill I must do better at. So many simply want to talk. They are so alone.
It's a very thought provoking article, BabbleRabble.
To listen and understand and to be silent is a skill that is waining in theses days of mass comunication and shortform words.
I think the desire to fix or suggest is a very masculine response to a situation. I'm not saying that in a an accusatory way, I think the male response to a problem is to try and fix. Sometimes the response sought is, as you say, just to listen.
I see it when my daughter expresses frustration with something. I tend to listen, husband tends to offer suggestions and can't understand why she gets even more frustrated. She just wants to vent and be heard venting.
Doubly so for me as a former lawyer, although opinions differ as whether I better at fixing or ruining.
and have her feelings validated, haz. that is also important.
You've made me laugh, Babble.
Good!
I wouldn't say it was a male response necessarily - Thinking to work roles I have held I had to come up with solutions or possible answers. On a personal level I had to learn to shut down - which by the way was not a good idea.
Yes, granny, and maybe the fact that I don't offer suggestions just means that I'm not as quick off the mark as husband.
So I guess that is one reason that chat rooms work :)
But I think you adopt a different work persona sometimes to the approach you'd use in listening to personal problems or difficulties.
not so , haz, you probably have to sift through the information, then see if it is advice she needs or just the right to speak her mind, in a safe environment
I think I approach this particular daughter's difficulties in a way that doesn't further inflame her frustration. She needs to be calm before she can consider solutions, so I work on the principle of coffee and chocolate first.
good move, haz
THEN you can get her to think things through.
yup, do the same with number 3 son....he gets so het up at times...his words just rush out of his mouth.at least with me, he knows they go no further.
But to return to Babble's theme of old people, how ready would I be to listen to the frustrations of an older person and not immediately tell them what to do?
i think it depends on how well you might know them. sometimes they want advice, others just want to vent their feelings, and feel safe in doing so.
I hate to cut and run but I have to make a couple of phone calls. TTFN and thanks for the chat.
I think that as a caring person, Haz, you could do older persons what you do with your daughter.
Bye FM.
i usually ask them straight out. 9 times out of 10, they just need to talk.
Be well, FM
bye mitch
I'm remembering when I was at school being part of a Community Services group. We undertook to visit patients in a geriatric hospital next door to the school and it was amazing how many relationships were built up over the years. I don't know who benefited most, but there was benefit on both sides.
I wonder if it still exists, although I have a feeling that the hospital is no more.
Exactly
Goodness, that has brought back memories!
I did notice that when I visited Father-in-law, when he was in a nursing home, how much the other patients responded to a new face - I used to bring Spangle with me and it was remarkable to see how perky the patients became. Spangle loved the biscuits!
in quite a few of our schools over he4,the children visit the old folks in nursing home and hostel situations,as you say, there is a benefit to both sides
good morning everyone from a very quiet house for once
hello, jacq
Good morning, jacq!
morning jacq
hello BR
hello Grannyrose and Haz
There is an affinity between the old and the young. It's us in the middle who have lost our way a bit.
how is the grid today?
It's okay, jacq. Don't let the later alphabet letters put you off.
my daughters used to go to a residential home for older adults they loved it
not too bad, couple of weirdo words.....
and they did it off their own backs
there are always weirdo words in babble lol
* grin *
i think it taught them to be patient with older people because they are both really patient now
i think in today's world, where the extended family does not live under the same roof, a lot of communications skills and understanding, and respect for other generations has flown out the window
i agree granny
We all will get old, provided we live long enough.
I think we have focussed too much on the physical well-being and have forgotten about the emotional side of things.
as i told my younger brothers, ( who are all grown men ) your children are learning how to deal with the elderly, ie, our mother, by watching you
i agree with Haz too, so many older adults are lonely and forgotten, even in residentail settings, or maybe because of residential settings
and that is how they are going to treat you!!!!
Is it down to us not being prepared to give time away?
There is no reason for me to believe that what is happening to seniors as the article suggests cannot happen to me.
Haz, I think it is a matter of priorities.
i watched a doc about a tribe from PNG who visited the UK and they were shcked at how hard we had to work to maintain our homes and pay the bills, they said because they live from day to day with routines in large extended family groups they have easier lives and their older people are cherished and valued
We don't have the time ourselves, so we pay others to give physical care and forget about the obligation to support the emotional well-being of the older person.
I watched the same programme, jacq, and was very moved by it.
it was an interesting perspective, they had very little stuff and were much happier and less burdened
they were shocked at older people living away from their families
Absolutely, they made it very plain that they thought our priorities were wrong.
oh yes, they are, my mother-in-law used to say she felt so welcome in my home because we had time for her, time to listen, and not just the adults, but the kids too
she lived 500 yards from us but would come to dinner and stay for 2 weeks lol
it drove me nuts at times but it was better than her waiting at home for family visits
If only there had been a clue when she arrived for dinner with suitcase in hand.
lol no suitcase, she would go back and forth for clothes etc, and bring her dog too
No wee backpack on the dog?
I have a sign that says: "Come again when you don't have so song to stay."
even the dog had her own bed in mine lol
long, song
nothing, no clues, but i take it as flattering that she felt so welcome she could stay like that
The elderly relatives I have left at the minute are proving to be very useful in yielding family details/secrets.
oh always Haz, she used to keep us entertained for hours speaking about her youth
One aunt in particular seems to have an incredible memory for the minutiae of family life, and she gets very excited when I can present her with details from the past that she didn't know about.
the girls miss that communication, i think thats why they make a point of inviting my mum and step dad to anything they are doing, even jsut to see some new furniture, we make it into a family event
you know, i've been thinking very hard he4. my MIL lives with us. she can drive me potty at times, but she isn't a real problem. my mother on the other hand.......
I try to get my aunts and uncles talking at gatherings. Many times even the quite young find interest in the reminiscing.
I'm sorry now that we didn't listen up more when we cousins were gathered and the grown-ups were talking. I should have taken notes, shouldn't I?
now, to me, she is a manipulative, self-opinionated, snoopy old so-and-so. how do i get around that?
With a sense of humour, granny.
she stayed with us for 3 weeks after her ha4 surgery, we had to lock our desks and filing cabinets.
Was she a spy in a former life?
she pushes all my buttons, haz. i've had counselling, and i still get riled whenever i see her!!!
Oh dear! At least you've tried. And getting old doesn't mean that you're automatically a saint and right in all that you do.
I commiserate Rose. We considered having a granny flat at the back of our very small house for my Dad. But his aggressive overbearing manner made that not an option. Sigh. And sadly in the end it did not matter. I just hope I remember to be much 'nicer' when I get older and not be a burden
my brothers feel the same as i do. and she wonders why her children don't like her?
Hello, lynxxx.
hi Haz
mothers think they can do anything because their age and status allows them to lol
we love her, but we don't like her. isn't that sad? hi lyn
mine drives me insane at times too granny
so what do we do with these unliked mothers?
i believe that is why care homes were invented
and so the wheel turns
some people just don't realise, or care at times, how their actions are viewed by others
now we are back to square one. old people in nursing homes and hostels, with no-one to talk/listen to them.
Well some retirement villages are fantastic...but like all of us, most people want to stay in their homes. 24 hours before he died dad was still asking when he was going home
i think i'll sit in a corner and gibber for a while. excuse me!
Many view places for assisted living as where you go to die.
some are lynxxx, and some have excellent facilities and wonderful staff, but staff are usually too bogged down with their duties to give the time needed to provide the emotional element of caring
We've been guilty of seeing all old people as a group - they're individuals with particular needs and foibles which need to be addressed.
that's so true, babrab.
it's the foibles that are hardest to address at times, age old habits cannot be broken
And in grannyrose's case, her mother needs an infinite number of drawers to rummage through to keep her happy.
a spice cabinet would be perfect, just move things around in it
I do not have answers, I only know I must do better.
True BR. My SIL parents were very clever and moved into a retirement village (with progressively increasing care as required) when they were in their late 60s. Have made a new life and group of friends...and close enough to children so they can visit frequently
we've asked my mother to sell the family home several times. the money could then be put into a smaller home, closer to us, where it wouldn't be a problem to call on her everyday.
nobody has answers because we are dealing with individuals and trying to fit them all into the same mould
lynxxx, my mum and step dad did that too just recently when they realised they wouldn't manage to use the upper floor of their home in a few years
Rse - have you seen the Australian Unity reiremnt village up near Wantirna (?) - off Canterbury Road. Its great!
I must slip out and get the shopping done. I will be sure to smile at every old person in the town today and i hope I don't get too many funny looks back.
she would have her independence, and the support of her kids, to boot.but she wants to stay near her friends and church. useless to point out her friends and church aren't supporting her in the way she needs. around, and around i go!
bye Haz
be safe, Haz ... I enjoyed your input
bye haz
It shouldn't be a problem - it's expected over here that if you meet someone's eye you smile and say hello, even if you don't know them. Bye for now!
Bye BR - thanks for raising the subject.
*gone*
bye Haz
lyn, there' a brand new retirement village going up in stud road, 5 minutes from us...
Sounds ideal.
* sigh * but mum won't have a bar of it.
am half way and time to do housework and laundry
have fun everyone
bye jacq
grannyrose, try pointing out to her the energy used to keep a larger home and the financial benefits of having extra cash sitting in the bank
i hope it works out for you
brb, have to check dinner. have done jacq, and around we go again!
I'll say goodbye too. Must have dinner and friends coming over. Bye all
back to say good-bye. dinner almost ready see y'all at the flip
bye granny
good morning all

No rain here just cold.
good morning friends. if the oh4 is a valid word, shouldn't its mate be ah4?
I agree
Aint should be a word also.
gramma, I am always so happy when you are on!!! how are you, dear one?
I'm quite well. What a nice greeting. You make me feel so loved.

hi jmc
ty
hey kids what time is it?
youre welcome
I didn't know you could do that?
It's Howdy Doody time!
clarabell became captain kangaroo
gramma, I was surprised at the word too
it is archaic - means to depict, portray
thanks, flosey
clue for ad 5 pls
yw Annie, I had to look it up, seemed so strange
at a meeting so have to be discreet
well jmc, at least it helps keep you awake!! I have a very bad (and embarrassing) habit of falling asleep during meetings
giggle
and it isn't from bordom! times I really want to hear what's discussed
I thought de7 meant to use turpentine
I do needlepoint and mending to stay awake
hmmm, perhaps I should take some knitting
I can't do it at lawyer like meetings but when I am at peace and quaker things I can -- lots of women do
women did that during the war, they'd be knitting socks for the servicemen
you could knit hats for preemies at the hospital
there is a webpage about that
My husband won't go out with me anywhere dark. I just fall off to sleep. I'm not a quiet sleeper either. Once we we went to a passion play in the church. Well silly priest gave everybody candles and turned the lights down low. Need I say more? I awoke with a startled snort and blurted out Is He de** yet? No we don't go out much anymore.
must look it up, they're so cute
lol gramma!
lol gramma, if I'm with hubby, he keeps an eye on me and gives a nudge now and then
you guys shouldn't make me laugh too loud!
giggle
once, while listening to a very interesting tale, by a woman with a booming voice, all of a sudden it was quiet! opened my eyes to see her eyes looking directly into mine!
it was a very small group
did you snore? or were you only resting your eyes
no snoring, just dead away
that is, I hope I wasn't snoring, no one told me!
jmc, now that's a question for the ages. My boyfriend ( not to be confused with my husband) always says I was just resting my eyes, while he purrs away.
oh gramma, you are allowed both?
Of course! Age has it's priveleges.
just call me old fashion. ..
hmmm, surely I must qualify??
help with de7/36 pls
de+add color to walls
hello. How many words today?
de and to cover the walls with color
165
My husband is the guy I garden with, do all of the everyday things. My boyfriend is the guy who surprises me with a fresh muffin or a nice date.
165 words
thanks Annie and jmc, stupid word
ty
well I won't take it personally peri
wow gramma, that sounds fair, does hubby have same privilege?
Sometimes they get together and surprise me; but for the most part, I like to keep them seperate
interesting
Oh you mean does he have a girlfriend. Sorry, I misunderstood. He has a sex kitten.
oh!
She randomly sets him up and surprises him with a little somthn, somthn ;)

hi dn. past tense of exclamation oh4
I always miss that oh4 thanks Luv & Dorens
Good morning all. Doren--I will see you, meet you for the first time, at 5!!
after awhile i train myself to get the ones i always miss (like that one, and the one with the double o)
My sister is coming along, she will drive, and wants to watch the Yankees at 8--can she hide with a TV while we play Scrabble and laugh?
i'm so excited scrabs... my friends and family always think i'm a bit nuts... after this i will be able to call you my friend, as opposed to my "babble" friend, which they view with sllight bemusement
oh, of course... but she can also play along with us... she is the one who beats you at scrabble?. put her up against nrkii
I'm so jealous ... I wanna come :(
My sister doesn't get this game. She hates sitting in front of a computer although she and I play word games together on FB. She cannot believe our names--Sprite, Wolvie, Crosshair, etc.
hop on a plane lisa!
yeah right dor
not my reality right now
Team Scrabble would be fun tonight.
my friend annie is like that scrab.. she likes playing scrabble in real time... won't even play lexulous with me.. computers don't hold her interest.... She might come, I hope so
now if you want to send the private jet for me ... (with cabana boys of course)
doren and scrab - sounds like fun. wish i could make it too
i wish, lisa. oh, and the cabana boy who was going to make an appearance tonight appears to have the flu. so i think he's out
oh no!
so where do you live big red?
My sister is a hospital pharmacist and in front of a computer most of the work day so she doesn't want any added time in front of a screen
Hi Big Red
Morning Everyone... another hot! day in Phoenix, AZ
oh, ok. that does make more sense then. i just love being in front of the screen... it definitely affects my tidiness (as in., there are piles of stuff all over the place that should be dealt with and put away.. hope you all don't mind)
Doren--my sister just rpinted off directions from Mapquest, but we did study the map last night. Probably 45 min away. What shall we bring?
see there wildcat. you can have an arizona party
ad6?
Hi Christa
i missed the conversation.. are their babblers /scrabblers here in AZ?
Fireworks!
i'm not in arizona either
ad6 = sticks to
Wildcat is there. And who was the guy that used to do Babble stats? I haven't seen him here in ages.
wtg merk
Yahoo Merk!
congrats merk!
scrab i think i have everything we could possibly want to ingest... and even apple cider for the nonwine drinkers. curried butternut squash soup bubbling away on the stove now. balsamic chicken marinating. three kinds of cheese and nice bread...fruits and nuts... salad...jbv bringing roasted vegetables... owl bringing the beesting cake... i have chocolates... i think we're set!
wto merk
ty
Where's the scrabble party going to be?
hi scrabs
ty quick
whoo hoo merk
yay merk! party in nj, will send you directions upon request
yw
Woo hooo, Doren. TY for accommodating me, the vegetarian.
Hi JM and phaeton and Quick
Oh, NJ, I don't get there very often. I'm in SD and get everywhere at one time or another. AZ sounds warmer right now. We've had rain, dampness, cool temps for a week.
hi
See you here tomorrow, rain or shine!
no problem at all, i love vegetables, and don't like meat that much myself. you should be okay with what we have here. sorry merk. wish we could have everyone here
I got my hair cut yesterday, Doren, so that I can look stunning. Hahaha.
oh so glad to hear that scrabbs.. might not have let you in if the hair wasn't absolutely drop dead gorgeous
Gorgeous & Scrabbler do not go together. I am a pudgy, simple, unsophisticated gal.
gorgeous shows in character, scrabs, not looks!
but you look stunning! and sophistication is most definitely not required, nor svelteness ( i am developing a definite antipathy to slender peoples)
ditto ata!
TY, Atalante. I always feel as though I have a big L on my forehead. L = loser. Especially when I walk into a hair salon.
clue for de7/36?
anyone got any clues for the v's
me too!
blood vessels
weather indicators
phaeton, 7/36 is the opposite of what you put on the walls
i think hair salons do something to intimidate us... i hated them as a little girl when my mom brought me.. I'm getting better, but still find them uncomfortable in every way possible
tks phaeton
yw...don't get your clue, tho
scrabs? a loser? Do you realize how many people idolize you?
de + pa5
The young twentysomethings scan me up & down. They always ask me about my eyebrows and my grey hair, as though I MUST do SOMETHING stat.
phae. before you re7/32, you might want to de7
got it...didn't have the pa5, but do now :)
hi phae and quick
ty quick and Dorens
It is funny how our self-image can dramatically vary dramatically from how others view us.
lol I'm only 35 and they do the same to me!
the salons always made a big deal out of cutting my long hair so I just don't cut it
Haha, Atalante.
maybe you can find a place near you that can let you just be you...ask friends for recommendations?
any more v's?
hey ata
I only have 3 out of 8
ata, that is what I mean.. they do it to almost EVERYone... making us feel instantly inferior. i have always hated that
joe biden, quick
Biden
I go to the "walk-in" (I call them "drive-thru") places, like Supercuts, etc so I can get in and out and pay as little as possible for a trim.
pt the weather indicator
TY for ve4
pl the letter itself
great, got 'em ! tx
but if you CAN find a person who "gets" you, scrabb, it could be more comfortable. I have one who does a good job with my hair, but I don't like her very much as a person
(joe biden is good for more than one)
Is "jerk" in the grid?
no, but i had it in lexulous the other day
I think his boss is more v*** than he is.
Aha, got it now.
haha. i meant two words describing his job (maybe more, i dunno. am still missing 2 v's myself)
two Vs describe his job?

Nrkii - take best wishes from this side of the Atlantic with you to the Babble meet, Ok?
will do soodlebum!
bye!
I hope they use Dorens PC to talk to us form the meet
Oh, wouldn't that be lovely?
Yep
Scrabbler reallly dorve a long way to get there, and her Rabbithutch home must be buried in snow now
Yeah, but thats why rabbits have really strong fore-paws - to clear snow from their hutches!!
Do you know how many Babblers are meeting up, Inge?
I think there are 5. Sorry, I was looking up the snow accumulation for Buffalo
No prob. It snow at this time of year typical?
NO!!!
Often we have no snow at Chritmas time here in southrn Michigan. Buffalo, however, gets more snow tan elsewhere
My geography of the US is limited to the places I have visited - NY, Florida and Vegas! Where is Buffalo?
the winds coming across Lake Erie cause more snow.Weather in the USA usuallly moves from west to east
Bufffalo is on the US side of NIagara Falls
Ah! And where is the Babble-Meet, Inge?
That is the westernmost end of New York state
In New Jersey, south of New York City
Heard it in the Movies....Noo Joisey!
I was trying to find out which town Dorens lives in, I couldnt get her profile.
Inge - did you like my accent there ...Noo Joisy?
That is what is sounds like
Clearly I watch too many bad movies!!!
except New Yorkers add that joi sound. You could consult Momvieman for better ones
Hi! I'm from Noo Yawk and I say New Jersey, not Joisey
sorry about all those misspellings .
Annie. Is it you that had the op on your ankle?
just trying to clear away the misconceptions about poor New Yawkers.
Well, even within NY accents vary. I remember a clasmate from Brooklyn who varied the vowels alot
soodle, No not me, thank goodness.
Sorry Annie. somebody on Babble has had an op on her ankle, and I had the same one over 30 years ago. I am hugely interested in advances since then. But I am glad its not you!!
soodle, I seem to remember that also but cant recall who had the operation.
I would have loved to have said all that in a Noo Yawk accent, but, I just don't have the energy!!! :)
LOL
And I missed that ankle op altogether
I think it was kje who had the ankle surgery.
Yes, it was!
But - I just loooooovvvveee New York. I had one of the best weekends of my life there. what a city!!
I haven't seen kje in a while.
soodle, next time you must stay longer. Too much to see and do.
Well, when I say weekend - it was Thursday to Wednesday. I saw all the sights, and did all the touristy things. It was the Feb after 9/11 and it was very bittersweet. But I just cant wait to go back.
Have to go. Back later I hope
later, inge
Bye Inge
But I did spend one week on Ellis Island!!!!
Ellis Is. is such a fascinating place. What was the purpose of a week's visit?
Oh, was it when you came back to the US?
Sorry folks. Just seeing off the juvenile deliquents on a night out, and having to reassure both of them they are Gods gift to women/men! Oh the joys of being a mom!!
Soodle, I am shocked! You have it all wrong! If you tell them they are God's gift to the other sex, you are asking to be a grandmother! My tact was to remind them to keep their pants on so I wouldn't be a grandmother too soon
I am stuck. can I get a clue for re 5/18?
re: to have given food again
My boy's friends thot it was so funny he had to phone home with a huge bunch crowding around the phone so I could tell him what I always said before he left home, REALLY LOUD so they could all hear.
Bugsaw. Its a thin line between reassuring them, and over reassuring them. My fingers (and everything else) are crossed that I have reached a happy medium!
gwen! thank you!!
DOn't you wish kids came with a manual? I always did
you are most welcome
Looking at the pair of them gettin ready - you know what? I am glad I am in my 40's, and theres more to life than looks!!!
Actually, I always told them I didn't want to be a grandmother before I was 40 so when the call came saying, "So Mum, you are past 40 right?" I knew what the next line would be. She is beautiful.
Ha Bugsaw!
help with re7 pls

Hi PAV3 - go!
Good evening to my fellow babblers! How is everyone?
By the way, congratulations to all the finishers! YAY!

Go Min! And happy birthday to Margot
Oh yes, I cannot that beleive Lois Lane is 61 already.
Oh yes, I cannot believe that Lois Lane is 61 already.
Time flies!
So does Superman!
Lol
mmm home made oven baked italian loaf with tons of extral old cheese garlic, basil, and secret hobo spices;)
Hi PAV3! Did you notice that you're in the grid today
yum, crosshair!
Hi crosshair! How are you doing? Welcome to the grid
hi all...
hi red
why ty min long days and pleasant nights as well;)
howdy red
Hi redturtlehead! How are you? Welcome to the grid!
well Min...I am if it's not spellt the American way
I am very very cold... and a little ill but trying to get better.
porr red..have a hot toddy on ole crossy;)
thanks Crossy!
sendin excess warmth from Phx to red...
thanks, i am enjoying the cold, but it was such a quick drop my tires got all messed up...
have
oops
what is the temp there now red?
64 degrees.
that's ok I think we all've gotten that one...
but it was 90 the other day..
I ha** that one already. Thanks anyway redturtlehead
6c or 43 f atm,we had another hard frost this morn and was -1 c or about 30f this morn..common up red and we will go for the fall colour tour up on the hills;))
fresh air is good for that nasty cold
see cross thats insane. I am better off here, but my poor tires sure did decide to lose pressure, I need to add air, but I am afraid I shall pop a tire when doing it.
hot chocolate is on me....
well not ON me..but you get the idea lol
:)
what type of car red?
its a prius, I just have never added air to anything...
at that warm temp 60,s you can set tire pressure to 32 psi
i know how to check the pressure, and where to find the psi stuff, but adding the air looks complicated.
below freezing you can go 53 psi
its possible I can take it somewhere though, the tire pressure light even came on...
35*
We never get below freezing.
or take it to the local Discount Tire...if you tell them you haven't taken that car there, they'll at least check to make sure it's not a flat...and won't charge you...
then get it done red you milage drops 10% for every 5 psi shortage
I will try to find some place open...
aal the savings of owning a prius go right to the tires;/
is there a savings with owning a car?
with a prius, there is a fuel savings over owning lets say a hummer lol
I get a lot of gas savings with my prius, I am more concerned about safety...
safety dosent become a real issue intill tehy get low wnough to squeal or give the car a sideways wobble
yes ther's a "fuel savings" factor, but if you don't mind paying extra, there will always be trade-offs to owning vs. going green and walking, biking, etc...
I think because the light came on it would be difficult.
Well Pav, biking is a great idea, but it isnt going to work for a variety of things I do...like going to work, I live too far from my job...
I mean, the tire pressure light gives me sort of a worry, but I will get it fixed tomorro.
lol pav, past nov or so we cant bike lol
hard to bike 20 lmile through 3 footm drifts of snow;)
oh to live the life in a snowless climate;)
whattt? I would sometime ride my bike inthe MI winters to schools and back and someimes to my after school job...
we had our first official snowfall already:)
pav,we had 22 days that were below minus 30c...they 20 or 30 miles of that
I had my first official snow fall a couple day ago also.
lol funny stuff
up north we used to snowmoblie to school at times;)
think nothing of seeing 20 or 30 machines in the lot:)
below minus 40f/and c,my mum used to make us wear balaclavas and say"remember, breathe in through the nose and out through the mough, youll frost your lungs again"
I's in 7/48! 7 left

hi lbd
I have help tonight, DH's Aunt is trying to learn how to play
hi Nef, oh goodie, get her addicted!
SHe's stuck here at our house with 2 broken wrists, but she doesn't have the internet at home, so I'm trying NOT to get her TOO hooked!
N's Nuked! 2 left
Go, Min! You can do it!!!!
go Min!
oh, that's right yuo told me about her wrists last time we chatted. well, she'll at least have something to do whilst at your house.
She's feeling better and getting stronger and healing now; so this might keep her out of trouble (hopefully)
(And she's reading this too!) ;-)
Not if she starts trying to type words in frantically, it won't! Hi all.
How did she break her wrists?
rehoe should be a word
hi Jac. Her splints won't let her type much; so she's trying help me find words at this point. As time goes on, we might need to tie her down
Incidentally, I'm having clue icon day a day late.
Hi DH"s Aunt. welcome to babble!
Nef - LOL!
She fell trying to climb up on a small chair.
I am done! I have fireworks!he7/36 was my last word
jilli - Hi. Indeed it should! It's a constant for gardeners.
whooooo hooooo MIN!!!!
Well done Min!
WTG, Min!!!! YAY!!!!
YAY min!!!
Min - at least that's respectable for a final word. My last was the little brown bird (wr4). *blush*
hi jilli. How are you tonight? DH's Aunt is older than you
My last word yesterday was a 4-letter word Jacula.
Nef's aunt-in-law. Hello and welcome to Babble. Sorry about your accident.
I'm just fine, thanks, Nef! Say hi to Aunty!
Min - there are many 4-letter words when Babbling, somein the grid, some not! :-)
Aunty is thinking this is pretty cute! She's enjoying the chog tonight
and she says hi to everybody too
Nef - you just made Jilli sound like Methuselah. LOL
Nef, get her to give herself a handle so we'll have something to call her instead of DH's Aunt
afternoon all :)
Aunty -- you're stealing my thunder as the senior babbler!
I yell plenty of four letter words when monkeys can't find words in the grid Jacula.
hi mrp :)
(((MRP)))
Hi MrP.
Hello mrpresident! How are you? Welcome to the grid
Min - I think we all do!
Aunt Jean doesn't like that I said she was older than you. So you can keep the title, jilli
LOL Nef.
AuntyJean sounds like a good 'handle' to me.
hi mrp. How are you today?
I was on Facebook earlier, playing either Wordscraper or Lexulous with Babbler Hydra. I wanted to put 'vorpal' (as in 'vorpal sword') in for a good score. Unfortunately, the dictionary for the game was having none of it.:(
doing well thanks! Except for the huge swelling thing just above the collar bone... that just looks hideous!
what happened mrp?
MrP - is that something new re the arm problems? Oh no.
no idea, woke up with it...
oh goodness, could it be a bug bite?
MrP - might it be to do with lymph glands after the op?
oh-oh. Does it hurt? Sending healing thoughts your way)
I think so jac... lickety is looking a little concerned. Thanks Nef :)
I'd see your hospital consultant a.s.a.p., MrP.
dawg, it isn't a bite cause there is no marks at all... just swelling the size of my palm!
yep, another day in paradise jac... hospitals thrill me
you need to go your doctor or a clinic asap, darlin'. it could be any number of things
brb
back to the fun, how is the grid?? I need a good dose of word insanity
The grid's not too bad; a few odd words but not too many.
I am seeing so many phantoms...
MrP - re the arm. You may need to keep it elevated to aid drainage. However, I expect Lickety is calling the consultant as I type.
one finger typing again!? argh, but yes, you are right, I need to do that
There are no ghosts intoday's grid but there are some Space In7/44s (think old computer game).
oooh, thanks!
You should get 4 words from that clue, MrP.
And then you can avoid stuff by being an ev6.30. Again 4 words from that clue.
will finish this in no time! thanks again... I have an adversion to words with V in them
The final ev word (ev6.42) has to do with the Greek Army - ev + The Twlight ****.
*Twilight.
ta again
No, not Dodie Smith's follow-up to 101 Dalmations, which ws The Twilight Barking. LOL. The Twilight (doo, doo, doo, dee, dee, da, da - weird music sound) ****.
Grins.
va4.7 - always looking in the mirror.
va4/7 - weather thing on church steeple. va5.18 is adjective.
ve4/8 - sounds like a Germanic person saying they are sobbing.
Last word -- vi5/18 -- is it fishy?
hi jilli :)
ve6/30 - spelled out letters for US vice president.
Jilli - it's a food word. Delicate food.
hi mrp -- was just reading about the swelling and hope it will be attanded to pronto!
(Rhymes with 'beyond'.)
The vi5/18 is anagram of va4/7 plus 4th letter jillibus
delicate food... hmmm
nice clue
Thanks, jac, got it right away! (French comes in handy sometimes)
ve4/7 - the letter I am clueing, pluralled.
Firewords :)
ve4/7 - blood runs through it and it can become varicose.
whoooohoooooo JILLI!!
Well done, jilli!
Congratulations jillibus on fireworks! Hooray for you!
I must say, thanks to Lickety. Absolutely stuck without him!
vi5.18 = vi + conjunction.
WTG, jilli!!!! YAY!!!!
yay jilli!
honed
oops! sorry
Is he7 a compound word related to the 4 above it?
Nef - I see your are sharpening your wits there. LOL
Thanks, all. I see jac is clueing brilliantly and I need some supper, so ttfn and I'll be back later :)
No, gwenski!
Not a compound word, gwen, but it does begin with the word before it.
Is it at all related to the 6 below it then?
That he7/36 is he4/4 + students sit at a ***k gwenski
no, gwenski!
Thanks, Min!
Goodbye jillibus! I'll see you tomorrow in the chat log!
yw
he 7 -- he** kitty kitty + Mr Arnaz minus last letter
It's a law word for heirs, gwen.
Jilli just clued it well.
ty jac, but too late!
That was the title of an old Jackson 5 song, Jilli. 'To Late (to change the time) and, of course, Carole King and James Taylor also did another 'Too Late'. Then there was Connie Francis' 'Born Too Late'. LOL.
I'm not going to put my headphones on and start listening to music because I have to be up and out to go out for lunch by midday and it's now 3.25am.
thought it must be wee samll hours for you, jac!
Close your eyes and sleep then Jac
We're taking Beloved's parents out for unday dinner for his Dad's birthday an their wedding anniversary.
so, off to get some supper -- back soonish
'unday'? LOL. That's quite a good new word I made by accident for the day of rest.
Nef - Oh, if only. Flatulent, snoring bed companion, though I love him to bits and he also brought me flowers today, plus a huge moral dilemma, that I'm not going to go into now, as more info gradually emerges from stepdaughter about her Mum's b/f.
Any more clues needed for grid?
pe7, please
father in french +_ charged particle
pe 7/32 is a thorax in a crustacean gwenski. Or put definition in reverse dictionary and it is #13 on list.
gwen - it's the thorax of a crustacean. Try this: French for father + charged particle.
I don't know french, but got it from ruru's clue. Thanks
Hello rururocks! How are you? Welcome to the puzzle
Oh! Too late, as jilli just said. LOL
ty
Hello kje! How are you doing? Welcome to the puzzle!
wow does that stew look good
Well, DH's Aunty has abandoned me (she actually went to bed). She's 84, and thought she could climb up on a small folding chair to clean a mirror; that is how she fell and broke both wrists.
hi minver, doing well, beating the pants off weed in scrabble right now, which I enjoy ; )
Also having trouble with Jac's icon clue. The only word I can think of has only 5 letters
I hear many people from USA say they don't know French. I assume it's only a language you have no choice about learning here in UK schools?
BRAT!!!!!
weed isn't wearing pants?
we choose a language, many here will choose spanish, more practical given our population
prob not, that is how she ends up with butt hickies
she's a mean, mocking, blocking, numa-rocking BRAT!
When I was in high school, I took Latin and German.
A te6/36 is first 4 letters of previous word plus does Jacula's clue stupi** you gwenski?
numa numa yea, numa numa numa yea
bet that latin comes in handy..
gwen - it's a weird word is the te6. It TYPIFIES how odd language can be. It means - 'to make tepid' (i.e. cooler or less hot),
I took german and spanish
you never did explain the butt hickies, feather
Hello featherbee! How are you? Welcome to the grid!
i didn't?
my 2 year old bit me on the butt one day. left a hickey.
butt hickies.... yep
butt hickies actually sound kind of fun..
feather has love bites on her bum??
Got the te6. Thanks.
yes, weed, please explain how one gets butt hickies from a child
I took french, german, latin and spanish in high school
when the child is nick, it's easy to explain!
yw
LOL
i have the video now to prove it.
wow minver..
wait. back up. NOT a video of the butt hickey.
do you really???? post it!!!!
(wants to see butt hickey video)
see, i knew you'd take that the wrong way!
Now, I do not speak a lick of any of those languages.
a video of nick being nick. NOT the butt hickey.
too bad..
de7/40?
butt hickeys should be left to doug
sorry to trample over your conversation min!
de + what van gough did
and was going to look up butt hickey video on U-Tube
other than chop off his ear
what aweird word
tr6?
thanks
I studied French from 4 years (infant school) to 13 (high school). In high (grammar) school., I took French, and Latin. I studied German and Welsh in private lessons, since I had boyfriends who I needed to understand. Though, the Welsh had also been taught to me since I was 4-years-old.
and agree - butt hickies should be doug's, not nick's - LOLOL
you'd probably be arrested minver
de 7: de 4/5 + *mergency *oom plus sometimes vowel.
but, I have heard about nick enough that I see the potential there
wait - that was the wrong de7
tr 6/21 is tr + vowel plus not a pot but a *** gwenski.
nick's video is in my profile now. nothing big, just him.
Thanks, Min. I was oh-so-close.
the other de 7 is were de4's hang out
is this nekkid nick?
yep, nekkid nick.
Another de 7/36 word is de plus the pa5/12 word kje
yw gwenski
OK, that was an awesome clue, ru - and a weird weird word
is that the true def?
nah, can't be, but good clue
Since y'all are being so helpful, do you mind sharing the first pa5 and first pe5 too?
get thyself to the de 7 in college
That really is the true def.
pa 5 spanish priest
feather - my kids used to blow spit-fuelled 'raspberries' on my tummy but neither of them ever bit my bum. Only my Beloved has ever done that (and he got a clip around the earhole for doing it - I don't like pain!)
pe + the beginning of lucy's husband
lol jac! nick got yelped at and severely scolded.
pa5 is the Army chaplain.
Of course! Thanks
** note to self .. don't try to bite jacula ... EVER **
And that on5, is it fishy?
ruru - good note to make for yourself. I'm the vamp that does the biting. LOL
it is a mean on 5
on5 is the awkward moody kid.
like kje?
WHew! Thanks.
te6?
Not a word we use here in UK, btw.
We'd say 'mardy'.
i am never on5
Or 'moody'.
I am practically a saint
I'm more used to the similar word for stubborn, that starts with or
*cough cough* HA!
te6 is my icon clue, kje. It mens to make less hot.
crosses chest.. (saint kje)
Pope John.. rolls over in his tomb...
tepid?
WE HAVE SAINTS PLAYING BABBLE?

did anyone see that weird lightning strike over the texas area?
kje - you're getting there...
that was me getting my wings, weed
Well, before lightning strikes the chat, I'm signing off!
Bye
(and monkeys will fly out of my butt)
*chokes on water* sputter sputter!
Thunder storm approaching, Gwen? Best to go then, Se you again.x
lol, i like ruru's response better
later.. I have to run to the store.. beat her at scrabble .... weed.. good luck
oops - computer hibernated, but plugged in now
i'd like to, but have minimal chance on this game.
and there is no way she can win this game now - hehehe
Anyone who has recently had a monkeu fly out of their butt can go for my colonoscopy (camera up the bum) appointment instead of me. Since colonic cancer is a familial thing, we all have to get checked at regular intervals once over 40 years of age. The procedure isn't so bad, except that they fill your bowl full of air, but the starvation preparation and then the drinking of Picolax (a bowel busting cleaner) when you know what it's going to do to you, is hard.
actually, there are still lots of tiles left, so could pull it out - should watch what i say
yes, jac - all patients say the prep is much worse than the procedure
good luck jac. i hate having that. have one every 5 yrs and that is bad enough.
I am due for mine too jac..
now that i am older.
wow, finally got the te6 - thanks
would love to be around to commit that misery on ru - so wish I had done GI
kje - there's a thing the size of a normal drug capsule that you can take now to avoid all of that. It's a radio-controlled camera. However, the NHS in UK finds it too expensive to use and I can find any way here of paying privately for it every 4 years or so.
(FARTS IN KJE'S GENERAL DIRECTION)
A te6/36 is first 4 letters of previous word plus does Jacula's icon clue stupi** you kje?
jac, they are not as accurate for colon, thus why NHS won't use them.... we do not use them for colon, but can use them for small bowel
Evening all. May I please have a clue for either of the ti6's? Thanks
I did copy the soup recipe kje. I will make it this week.. it looks delish..
but jac, there are some decent virtual colonoscopies done with CT - look into that
Hello there mkg! How are you? Welcome to the puzzle

What I hadn't taken into acount is almost 7 years on, he only going for a divorce now, and doing in it himself, rather than through a solicitor. His 'ex' isn't signing any of the forms he sends her and he is most vehement that he never asked me to marry him and never wanrs to marry again. I find that both upsetting and offensive.

Jilli, He willl be given an ultimatum eventually. I've given him 3 when I've been 'not sober' (which happens quite a lot since his daughter had to come and live with us), but, there will come a point when what I see as disrespect for me will go too far and no flowers will fix it,
The way I see it, anyone who doesn't want to marry again thinks the realationship might not work out, nd so is not commited for life, wants an easy way out.
Lack of respect for their partner.
yes lack of respect. i agree.
Last time I challenged him on the marriage thing,, he told me that he was mine for life but that if I wanted someone to marry maybe I should look elsewhere. That threw me right off my axis I'd clung to when we met.
ho 5 14 first one please.
jac i am so sorry for you.

And I'm still spinning dizzzily in space and going to bed now in order to be up for that family meal.

He is doing remarkably well!!!! He is awake and they are having him sit up and do physical therapy. Breathing almost exclusively on his own! He still cannot speak with the tracheostomy in, so they will be fitting him for a talking trach in a day or two! But it is so unbelievably wonderful to look into his eyes and know that he sees me! And Trif! And kadresa!

so I look to your Dad as a miracle and will conitue to pray for Rob and his family as well as your Dad
I remembered that - that is why I asked...
Car.ee, I'm so glad your Dad is better (just returned to grid and saw that)
My dad carries MRSA, so the infection went nuts in the hospital. He got pneumonia and they treated that, but then developed a polar opposite infection (gram stain negative vs. gram stain negative). They had to figure out what it was and then figure out what would work against it.
** sorry...that should be gram stain negative vs. gram stain positive...
pe 7/32 is a thorax in a crustacean or put definition in reverse dictionary and it is #13 on that list mkg.
Yes- the hospital is not good for MRSA. I know someone who fell in a hospital and got it in the cut in her knee
DR...tell him to hang in there...if my dad can pull through...I know your friend can too!
will try min.
To make it easier, paste this link into your browser. http://www.onelook.com/?w=thorax+in+a+ crustacean&ls=a

pa6 is the pa4 above it Plus the horse is Mr **
pa5- pa+ grapes grow on a ***e.
A pa6/33 is pa plus word that rhymes with unwanted garden plant and that pa 5/18 word is pa plus *ehicle *dentification *umber Nef.
ok...everyone is just typing much faster than me!
thank you!
2 Pe's left
just realized...all 3 kitties are sleeping on the bed with me...hmmmm....think it is getting colder?
I will slow down for you Car
pe5/16 and the pe 4/6 right below it
PE 5/14....foot + y** or no questions
the PE 4/5 and add the sometimes vowel to the end
pe + *igh *chool musical
that was a pe 5/14 car. I need the pe 5/16
Sorry...the pe 4/5 right above the 5/16...to look at someone secretively
Add the sometimes vowel to the end
odd word.
P's done
Hooray!

Perfect Nef!
Ready...
back sorta
hi JMC!
whoo hoo car
I gave up a while ago
Welcome back, sorta, jmcnrick. So where did you go?
Tr5/10, te4/5, tr 4/7 and tr 7
sulking in my living room
why, jmc?
just tired from meetings and driving and dealing with Mother's care
tr4/7 is almost Car's sister
tr 5/10....wooden plant + a consonant on the end
Sorry to hear to that jmcnrick. You can sulk here too
it's all on your shoulders, isn't it? {{{jmc}}}
Hugs to JMC
Sending hugs to you JMC
need something to drink brb
no my sister is there too -- in fact she was the one that had to deal with the d^&n nurse who wrongfully sent my mother to the ER
TR 7 is the TR 5/12 above it, just past tense
ty min I appreciate having a place to sulk with friends
TE 4/5....short for theodore + plural letter
at least there is bourbon here! lol
TE 4/5...TE + not ma
tr 5/10 is tr 4/4 plus a hump letter. A te 4/5 is more than one Mr. Roosevelt. tr4/7 rhymes w/your name and tr 7/36 word is past tense of tr 5/12 word Nef.
(one of the kitties moved...now i'm chilly!)
thanks I got those first 3; but I already have that one car.ee
hello car!!!!
my cat moved too -- we call it "trapped by a kitty"

And Trifi, car.ee said your Dad is much improved! Wonderful news
Bye min! I may not be here when you get back!
good news Trif
he is indeed nef. as of 4:30 this afternoon he had the talking trachea tube installed, which should help things a LOT
Ooh! News to me!
Did you get to see him Trif?
nope, not today, as I had the kiddos with me
clue for the de 7, 36 please?
...and how is that catheter going? Tee hee!
what has been seen cannot be unseen, car
DE + what you use to color walls
My eyes! My Eyes! They're burning!
that is completely NOT a word
poor car
*ha4s car eye drops*
No...poor Trif actually!
lol poor trif then
{passes them to Trif}
oh- I got it- yes- Poor TRIF
you have NO IDEA dr - trust me, it wasn't pretty
Trif...we are now praying for DR's friend who is also in the hospital...
I, on the other ha4 am confused. But that is okay
oh no! so sorry to hear that DR!
so sorry DR
poor trif was "exposed" to Dad's catheter unwillingly!
I saw something I shouldn't have at the hospital jmc, and car and kadresa are still snorting with laughter over it. ha ha.
ack!
gee, thanks for outing me there, car.
run away!
No, not laughing...cringing...and so glad it wasn't me!
honestly, the wife is so lovely and caring, but get some boundaries already!
definately
yes...we let it ALL hang out in Babble land!
just think how your Dad will feed once he is lucid agaian
sorry- hubby just got home from the hopital
*streaks through the chog with belly flapping*
or feel
we need all the prayers we can get for Rob and his family.
Dr...what is the update?
the best part was when my head was basically blowing off, and she was all "no, you should look, you need to know this." why, exactly, do I need to know that? *I* am certainly not going to be uh, caring for that particular fatherly appendage, and no one here at my house has one of "those" that needs tending.
I will hopd rob and famility in the light DR
The absess ( sp) was 5x7 INCHES not centemeters... MRSA And an unknown. major antibiotics
[[[hugs to DR, Rob & family}}}
thanks Jmc
mrsa sucks huge. I will pray for them, most boldly
they want to send him home... no insurance
i bet it is the same kind of thing DR...polar opposite infections.
WHAT???? can they DO that?
that does suck DR
oh dear. I'll keep him in my prayers, and send healing thoughts to him and his familyaa
They can send him home with him coming back to the Er for antibiotics
mrsa is very contagious! if they send him home they are basically creating a public health situation. how irresponsible can they be?
That would be putting his whole family at risk...CAN they do that?
it sounds like it Car- I am thinking of talkingto his wife
hmmm most hospitals have a program to cover the cost of indigents -- they should look into that
they just never tell you that
There has to be a way to keep him there....
I dont know- I will talk to her tomorrow... their oldest girl has a 17 month old... that would be horrible 1
omg DR
they can do it. THe wound must be covered; and the thing is he would be a t greater risk in the hospital himself
thanks Jmc- for the infp
* info...
Good grief! That is just asking for trouble. DR...let us know if we can do any research on this for you. May i ask...what state?
ok enough on Rob- makes me so sad...
sister always gets sent home with MRSA as it's less dangerous for her at home compared to hsospital
mmmm I am pretty sad myself
California- and iknow the laws here do provide for indigents... they need to stop being proud though!
good to know ata
are you okay, jmc?
I know Jmc- I feel for you... mother care is always difficukt
Hi Atalante! How are you doing? Welcome to the grid!
