i cant time anything right if its for an extended period of time.. had to buy things for shorter time
i want to buy stuff to decorate and redecorate lol
am haveing reno trouble...got the larger size cafe but i can't fix the floor!
why cant you fix floor?
get the cash up first..don't think there's extra $ or dspeed of cdooking for pretty stuff
dont think so either
don't know..it won't let me move/remove floor tiles
so right now it looks like a s. dali painting in there... but they still come to eat
when you try to selll are you getting the pop up that says do you want to sell for x amount?
you have to really put it on the cash register correctly or it wont take it i have had probs with that too
hello everyone :)
i did but haven't sold anything in quite a while.

well, that is when i will be back, tonight, gotta get to work!
lol
bye jen
good morning, babble friends! BR, are you still here, dear one?
hi trif
good morning all
hello sue. the "letter after c" key is broken off on my laptop, so I am so happy there isn't one in the grib tobay!
crossy are you here?
((((((((peri)))))))))))
BR??? yoo hooo
im here peri
http://tinyurl.com/yf6s9r2
an interesting site to go along with your morning babble
crossy I saw a t-shirt the other day that said You Had me at "Bacon"
crossy, I saw another T-shirt that said: Powered by bacon and had a picture of a slice of bacon!!
;))
the other day i saw bacon shoes i can order
no way
really, crossy, that sounds impossible
I saw some great graffitti on an electric hanb bryer in a bathroom -- you neeb to picture the pictograms on the bryer first....it said "press button receive bacon" on it. excellent!
crossy I think you should compile a scrapbook
lol,ive seen that one also trif
great idea esprit!
:-D
and i can also order a computer mouse with a bacon design on it
a bacon scrapbook is an amazing ibea! you coulb bo a weave for the front cover, and then shellac it - that works, by the way!
aand a mouse pad that looks like a pound of bacon;)
this missing key on the laptop is a real bummer. wonber where it is?
how on earth did you lose a key?
it was there last night when I went to sleep....woke up this morning, openeb up the laptop, no "letter after c" key. I suspect tertiare, but she claimeb all innocence when questioneb.
they do pop off from time to time, my daughters friends kid picked all the keys off her laptop once, she had a nightmare putting mthem back in the right order
not fun
i founb the actual key, but I am missing the little plastic bit that attaches to the keyboarb itself, so the letter tile just slibes arounb. hmmm. "slibes" is a fun worb!
lone r clue please
hello everyone!
ra 7/28 how my kid dresses every day
in bacon strips?
or a rodent collector
when prisoners go wild they ri**.... switch to y, sue
I need the second one down on the right side
and morning everyone, but i have to run to a meeting
ty doren
whoops, dorens beat me to it! hey - I can just press the little stub! not fun, but it works!
bye dorens
lol
NBT
of course, now my psycho irrational fears that I will somehow electrocute myself by pushing the open stub on a laptop are now running wild....
time to dress for school
and list a futon on Craigslist
dorens, I saw the pix of the babblemeet. They are great.
Oh I missed dorens
god i love you americans!:)) http://www.shof.msrcsites.co.uk/can2.j pg
though on second look i think a brit did this one
go ahead and hate your neighbor, go ahead and cheat a friend.....
that is so funny, crossy! and it didn't even mention the superior healthcare and almost cure for cancer!
;)..ive never worn a touque with ear flaps..:)
you are just waiting for the bacon ones to come out, which is perfectly understandable
of course
i am a little bit in love with a performance poem I saw recently. if you are interested, I will happily post the link, but I know everyone is not into spoken word poetry....
hi all
good morning everyone
hi boo and flosey, I was deep in the grid
hi Annie, just back for my last 6 words, too tired last night
I just started and thinking about coffee
finished first cup, ready for second
you convinced me..going to put up Mr. Coffee
so, big news in two areas here: a brand spanking target opened up in the next town. I can be from home to retail heaven in less than six minutes. also, primo wore me down on my second visit there, and we bought one of those big fryolator things. bloomin onions, home fried chicken, and Lipitor to follow!
hi flosey
oooooooooh a "spanking target" sounds kinky
hi to you to Trifioso
yeah, sorry about that - brand spanking NEW target, of course....(scarlet)
I am no longer interested
;-[
hey you got your D back
lol jean! and, no, not really - I am just pushing the little nubbin, and it seems to work
owwwwwwwwwww
I love Target (even if they don't spank you)
its a dangerous, dangerous store. the black hole of budgets
what kind of store is it, have not heard of them
FAINTS
it's like walmart, but without the low prices.
guess they're not in Canada
Hi Trif..only 4 min from the new Target and was wondering when it was opening..was on vacation. No big sign outside announcing a grand opening.
it's basically walmart for democrats
ah, ok, Walmart really moved into Canada like a bulldozer
walmart for non-poor democrats...
it had a soft opening last week, and opened for real on the 11th. something about a new store is so cool - every thing is so clean and well ordered, the staff is so eager and friendly
any help for the Y?
ah, upscale
yp7/40, does that help?
trif I have been pushing the little nubbin for q since last october
hi all
ah.. thanks :)
y + gym class, for short + ceremony
apparently a mineral
I would hardly describe target as upscale! it is not at all - they have really good prices on things. and I would huffily add that if their prices are a bit higher than walmart, it's only because they fairly compensate their staff and provides benefits....
what the hell
ty hursh
ugh, sorry about your nubbin, jmc. it's a bummer, isn't it? suddenly it seems you need the missing key more than you ever noticed
oh i'm not saying it's not good that they do that, trif... i just can't afford not to shop at walmart :(
Morning all. The biggest differenct between Target and Walmart is that the employees are treated better. They have health care, pension plans, acceptable hourly wages, etc. (we live a mile from one; and once you get used to it you won't view it as a black hole anymore)
well, I refuse to shop at walmart, so I suppose we cancel each other out. :)
well I am happy my nubbin is q but that is one of the reasons i hate qu in the grid
actually trif, walmart provides health insurance to all its employees now
LOL nef - once I get used to it, I will be sorely in debt! Have to ration myself like any good addict
good to know, jmc
jmc, now I will feel better about shopping at Walmart
and they are one of the greenist stores in the world
but they still discriminate against gay people
who is, walmart? I find that hard to believe....
they are green pretty the same reason I was green before it was popular -- it sames money
hey, if we're going to beat up on a company, maybe we can all agree on microsoft? anybody not hate them?
without gates we would be using linux..shudder
for example the lights in the freezer section only turn on when you approach them
Trifi, we also live 3 blocks from a Dairy Queen; and I thought *that* would be irresistable for DH; but after 15 years here, I don't think he's gone there (that *I* KNOW of, anyway!) more that 30 times, maybe? And he certainly hasn't gained weight from that either
BTW thx Hursy for the Yp
ah well, i tried.
if there was a dairy queen near the target I think my head would explode. cheap shopping AND unlimited access to blizzards? thank you, good night
yw rkb
Wal-Mart: http://tinyurl.com/yf5bz5y
clue for the first fe 6
lol hurshy I just think walmart is taking more heat than it deserves
mind you, i had a friend that worked in a chocolate shop, and she said after the first three weeks, she was done with chocolate for the rest of the two years she worked there.
but I have no belief that is is a perfect store
hi BR
that is the other thing, of course, i live closer to walmart than target. and the target is surrounded by 6 restaurants (at least) and a barnes & noble and stuff... talk about a black hole
Hello, jmc
Hi BR
I owe some linux stock crossy
Babble Rabble! there you are!!! I wanted to tell you that I saw a band Saturday night that made me think of you SO MUCH - they are called the Wiyos, and I just got the feeling you would really enjoy them.
hi boo
hi jmc
Why so, Trif?
ive heard of theese barnes +noble stores.wish we had them here.shoppes selling new books are rarer than hens teeth here
im sorry for your loss jmc;))
lol
I've been told that Walmart has the most efficient supply and shipping system in the world. And that that is part of it's "greenness"
interesting article BR
they have an excellent aesthetic, and they have done a great job bringing to light lost music styles and songs from the past, and combining the songs with more modern concepts to make a darn near perfect show.
actually many peopel dont know this, but the entire google empire runs on nothing but a whole series of linux red hat servers!
yet barnes& nobles have been driving out indipendent book sellers
f + a b c d e: l*****
it wouldn't surprise me crossy
plus, the four men are all stage actors who met in new york on various auditions, and realized they all loved the same kind of music history and storytelling, and so they formed this band. they have been on tour with bob dylan for a while, and I saw them at a benefit. I am hard pressed to say how to categorize them, exactly.
well any book store is better than none at this point jmc;(
now that is a sad tale crossy
definitely folk, with a healthy dose of new orleans, twenties swing, depression era melodies, and wicked, wicked fun
Cornbread and Butterbeans
oh,i can order on line, but it is not the same,if it wernt for the 2 used book stores we have,id be in trouble
ty BR
YES YES!!! they sang that as their encore!!!
mmm cornbread...
mmmmmm cornbread and butterbeans
no I agree crossy there is nothing like browsing a book store
my butterbeans did wellthis year
I can't say what, exactly, made me think of you - I think it is that they are really smart, and it shows in their music, and they have a twistedly marvelous sense of humor, and a great sense of history, so I thought you would love them.
the big book stores like B&N and Borders, etc. are driving the small bookstores out of business; but it was the small book stores that made the book-sellers top ten lists.
Well, thanks
when i travel i try to shop at local independent book stores
here's a good representative slice, if you would care to peek: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=srzu3Un aG8E
I actually found a world war II conscientious objector poet that way one time
I love your quote today, BR.
Hello, Nef
brb
But Borders was a group of 13 independent book stores prior to 1991
Hi and bye, BR. Just looked at the clock and gotta get to work. :-( I'd much rather Babble today
Remind me of Leon Redbone a bit
be well, Nef
it hasn't been any thing but a chain since then inge
yes, I think so too. if he was four people :) I hope you enjoy them. They are such eager, sincere fellows. I was really impressed
bye nef
Yes, I know. OUr son programmed the inventory
I am enjoying them, Trif. Thanks
I love me some mom and pop bookstores, but they can be so frustrating too - not having what you might be looking for, weird hours, etc. I think the fact that big bookstores exist at all is encouraging. anything to keep people reading.
:-) a claim to fame inge
my mom and pop store (politics and prose) will order me anything i want
you are very welcome, my dear Babble Rabble! any thing I can do, even the smallest, to repay you for all your kindnesses to me is time well spent indeed.
does babbling books still exist in DC, jmc?
but one of our very long time stores (30 years that iknow of) went under this recession
politics and prose, I see that bookstore on BookTV
ne got tired of books and is now iwth Time Warner\
yes they often have talks there of some amazing people since it is in upper north west dc among the powerful
Well, I am off to sudoku
there is a radio program for kids called babbling to books trif
where was this store located?
georgia street, I think....
i am not familiar with it
but there are lots of little book store here -- including the one that I never knew about until i went to it to hear red's daddy read poetry
I have always been found of Kramers since they refused to give the FBI a list of books that Monica Lewinsky bought there
help with the a on the top row pls
h**** scarum
ty annie
when I worked at 17th and K I used to HAUNT a biggish bookstore across the street - it was a chain that I think has since gone under - crown, maybe? royal books? something like that. They used to have a "small authors" section that i loved loved loved. I think I read 35+ books that year....
ar 6 -- capacity of an a limb
the only one I have from that A
and with that I have nbt and will scurry off to save the world
go, jmc go!!!
jmc, that would be lovely, bye jmc
there used to be a crown book store chain
Hi BR!
*puts on cape and runs out of chog*
that must have been it.

thanks too, BR
Hello, Annie
I just adore our JMC....
Has anyone seen kje lately?
gosh, now that you mention it, not lately

I remember you going to her aid with that awful JC
ugh. don't remind me! has he been around much lately? the whole thing is so unfortunate....he and I were sort of becoming friendly-ish, and then the whole thing blew up. I hate that! I have enough stress in real life, thanks!
Hi everybody. Been lurking, and just need the RE 6/24 for fireworks...HELP!!

Thanks BR. should have known that one!!
Congrats, Soodlebum
BR, you are so kind to ask! He continues to make progress that astounds most everyone. he certainly has a will to get out of the icu, that is evident! he was having such a hard time of communicating that he was fitted with a talking trach on saturday afternoon. havent seen it in action yet, but I am praying for the nurses now. he is the absolute epitome of doctors making the worst patients
Trif, I was not aware that your father was in the hospital. I pray that he has a quick recovery and is home very soon.
Progress is good.
thanks annie. and yes, progress is good

Hi all, Can anyone tell me how to get an icon so I don't have to look blank?
You would have to go pro, hego
I have annie
Oh dear, I am not helpful in all things computerese. I am so sorry.
But welcome to babbleland.
Thanks anyway.
Happy Monday, Babble buds!
Judi, can you tell hego how to get an icon?
and happy Monday back atcha
good morning
good morning
Everyone knows how unknowledgeable I am re:computers. They scare me.
good morning jane
Hego - you have to go into My Account - there you will see where you can browse for an icon pic. Any jpeg will do. Remember to hit the upload button after you have selected your pic.
Thanks so much Judi and Annie I'll try.
Judi, thanks! I knew you would know. And now I am off to see The Wizard, Bye.
Morning everyone... Hego you sometimes have to hit the refresh button to get the icon to appear on the screen....
I'll just need to know where to send the bill for my services, hego. ;-)
mornin babblers!
hi evan
also hego ... alot of babblers change their icon daily to fit a certain theme... only I forgot whose has the theme mentioned in their profile???
Sprite's profile has the daily themes: http://www.playbabble.com/prof ile_mini.php?id=2889
ty Eva
not sure that its updated though, so maybe someone has something more fresh...
Yp7. That's just cruel.
really? yp7?
so much for getting nbt early in the game!
So, Kermit and co aren't acceptable?!!!!!
Yes. I had to sneak a peak at Lickety's for that one. Ridiculous.
hello everyone. my name is in the grid again :-) and it is also part of the yp word which was a new one for me
how many points is it?
Yp7/40.
yp7/40
Hey, look I'm colorful now. Thanks a million for being so helpful, all.
hints for the 8?
good one!!
Fl8/70.
Way to go, Hego!
TY judi!
Thanks again. Have to go now. Be back later.
that gives me NBT and NBS :)

it means mustard gas...harp
Not many, thank God!
y+icon name in chat plus ....(not left)
bbs
oh brother, maybe in the forties people knew that word?
Excellent clue aebmusica. Now I'm really going. Bye
not many plurals this morning ... the s tile is too far south
I think that's what they call people from Ypsilanti, Michigan.
or someone from the UP of MI
... and silence descends upon the chat ...
that's because you said it so well it made me miss Isle Royale, Merk
found a kitty
I was born in MI and have been all over the state since then, but never made it to Isle Royale, sorry to say.
You found the kitty where? IR?
pu
Anyone have a clue for the fu6?
i worked on isle royale, there are actually no felines on the island. but there in a feline in the grid
ah, I see
The fu 6 starts like the suffix, then the first three letters of my real name.
Ty, Merk.
yw
after yesterday i thought there might be an ra7/36--where rodents live!
You had a problem with them yesterday?
lol
Did someone say there was a cat in the grid? If so, I have not found it yet.
pu4
I think it should take muppet as a word!
maybe thats why there's no place for rodents to live in this grid!
ah, yes
Oh ... I'm finished ... it snuck up on me. All of a sudden fireworks!
good for you merk
Fireworks here too!
50 to go
*POOF*
Thanks everyone, see you tomorrow.

Hi babble pals!
heya beach
*flop* sure my last 11 don't exist
heya ata, can i help at all?
oh jacq! I have a question for you ... do you remember we talked a while ago about fruit juice with supplements in for older grandmothers?
yes ata
can you remember the brand name?
lol i am just googling to find it, i knew you were going to ask that
mum thinks it's a wonderful idea, we wanted to try and get some even if we couldn't get them on prescription (getting gran to the dr is like getting the dog to the groomers)
lol TY!
gimme a second, am sure i will recognise the packaging, my sister-in-law had them too
TYTY whenever you have a moment!
ata i can't see it here, but i will ask a friend who works at a residential unit what they use now and get back to you with it
ok
thank you, jacq. that's wonderful. tyty
are you still there ata? i have a link
here!
http://www.christie.nhs.uk/patients/bo oklets/text/nutritional/default.aspx#a vailable
sorry can't do tiny url, i know this says for cancer patients but they really helped keep my relations healthier than the poor amounts of food they were able to eat
they have a range here and manufacturers
oh wow, that's great. TY! Gran is so suspicious about anything new, but she religiously drinks apple juice each day - she's decided it's good for her memory - so we're hoping to try and sneak something more nutritional in that normal apple juice without her realising!
my sister in law used to have an apple one and it tasted really nice
she usd to make me taste everything first lol
i am pretty sure your local pharmacy can get them for you
thats just wonderful. amazing what you can get nowadays
it is, and they really do help
5 left and am stumped
still 11 left and stumped!
can i help?
if I knew what I wanted ... I suspect I'm missing re's. typical
ahhhhh
you haven't listed yet? i listed at 26 to go lol
nope, not yet. I had some vague notion of finishing without the list, but I'm weakening
brb
you can do it ata!!
clue for the first fe 6

*one
Hello and How many today folks?
112
112 awkward ones!
Well more than halfway without listing yet
How is everyone else doing on this one?
back to finish
how are you doing ata?
going to get the list lol
How far did you get Ata?
finally finihsed the t's
10 to go, but getting sidetracked by bogs
do you have to do a paper on them ata?
hi All. Can I get a clue for the fl8 pls? thx
extend the fl7 above it
paper about how databases can be used in the assessment of pe4 bogs in Northern Ireland. Joy!
Rhymes with something you churn
ohhhhhh, sounds less fun than a paper about bogs lol
would think it would depend on the standard of data collection
I don't know, if it's about peat bogs in Northern Ireland, it's bound to be fascinating.
but I have to learn about the bogs first :P
Thanks Jacq. I can't believe I didn't see that.
the bogs are fascinating but databeses aren't
hego, i got that one first but took an age to get the one above it lol
PB Haz! :D:D:D
can I please have a clue for my last one: fu 6/33?
is Lough Neagh that really big lake? You're going to get so many random questions about NI over the next few weeks
Entrapment, pure and simple.
am working on that one now Luv
Yes, biggest freshwater lake in the British Isles.
blame FM
That FM!
does SPangle go bog trotting?
No, thank goodness!
do you have bogs in Ballymena? *am fascinated by bogs now*
fu, a consonant and most of a chocolate bar or a planet
We tend to call the bogs, especially where turf is cut, 'mosses', not sure why.
i think it's a bird
We don't have pe4 bogs as such but there are some big ones on the outskirts on the way to the north.
do you all still go out and cut pe4 each morning for fuel?
thanks jacq, I was all around that!
so was i lol
Not all of us, but there are some who still use turf as fuel, It smells wonderful.
mosses - same as in the Peak District. Featherbed Moss etc
People will tend to rent a piece of the moss which they use for cutting, but the turf has to be dried out for quite a while before it's ready to burn.
I didn't realise that there was so much mechanical chopping of turf
ha! I had an evil boyfriend whose surname was Moss. that means his name really was Bog
Look up 'Digging' by Seamus Heaney. He writes about digging for pe4 in the latter parts of the poem.
lol
one to go and it's a killer
ooo I love Heaney
I've been to a poetry recital by him. *smug*
oooo! now that's a good claim to fame!
My grandfather could cut more turf in a day Than any other man on Toner's bog. Once I carried him milk in a bottle Corked sloppily with paper. He straightened up To drink it, then fell to right away Nicking and slicing neatly, heaving sods Over his shoulder, digging down and down For the good turf. Digging. The cold smell of potato mold, the squelch and slap Of soggy peat, the curt cuts of an edge Through living roots awaken in my head. But I've no spade to follow men like them.
nello peeps - how is the grid today?
heya wolvie, it's evil at the end
hello I meant. ;-)
nice poem, nice bit of social history
Between my finger and my thumb The squat pen rests; as snug as a gun. Under my window a clean rasping sound When the spade sinks into gravelly ground: My father, digging. I look down Till his straining rump among the flowerbeds Bends low, comes up twenty years away Stooping in rhythm through potato drills Where he was digging. The coarse boot nestled on the lug, the shaft Against the inside knee was levered firmly. He rooted out tall tops, buried the bright edge deep To scatter new potatoes that we picked Loving their cool hardness in our hands. By God, the old man could handle a spade, Just like his old man. Between my finger and my thumb The squat pen rests. I'll dig with it. Seamus Heaney
hmmm. wonder why Irish bogs arent so good for growing cranberries. Do you have cranberries over there?
got there first!! :P
I did the whole thing!
very nice poems ata and haz
but I really love that poem
you did! very through
No cranberries encountered save the ones in the supermarket.
*thorough
cos Oregon has loads of bogs, but they are full of cranberries. Think they are more watery than NI bogs
More references to bogs in Heaney's poem, 'Act of Union'.
fireworks!!!!! finally
sorry, Haz, I apologise in advance, you're probably going to get sick of me asking random questions about NI and bogs over the next 2 weeks
WTG jac!!
YAY JAC!!
Congratulations jacq!
maybe the irish ones are too acidic
ty ty ty
I'll not claim to be able to answer all of them, Ata, but I'll look wise and stroke my chin a lot.
too much tannin or something
between haz and soodle you should get loads of info
why over the next 2 weeks ata?
lol :) there's always a wealth of knowledge, though, from just being "au fait" with the actual things rather than reading about them from books
assignment, wolvie
pantom 'prettier"
ah. ty
pantom :D
yes yes..damn editor messed up again
I like pantom!
hit that editor with a fish crossy. ;-0
lol

howdy haz
hi haz
bye jac
And Wolvie, hello! Just checking back to realise that I just bustled in at the mention of pe4 bogs and forgot my manners.
i was reading the poems and such and didn't even notice haz. :-)
poor Wolvie
that's why I just remembered to say hi
why ata?
It's not a bad thing to be distracted by Heaney.
yes - caused me to google him - good stuff
his Beowulf translation is just the best thing
He won the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1995, we're very proud of him.
you should be
very cool haz
I loved reading his introduction to Beowulf - very long and very interesting about how old things are still in context today
Ata I forgot to say very well done in your parachute drop
thank you :D
it was quite something!
You'd have had a lovely soft landing if you'd flown over pe4 bogs.
squelchy!
a bit wet and cold tho i bet
phone back soon
bye cait
We'd just call it 'refreshing'.
;-0
oooo NI can trade the carbon stored in pe4 bogs to offset carbon emissions
cool beans ata
hi all
hi jmc
Hello jmc.
ewww you all drink bog water
i just want to note that i found the 8 without a single solitary clue
I have up 5 x 1, ur 5 x 1, and ut 5 x 1 - what type of u am i missing please?
who drinks bog water?
WTG jmc
You need another ut5.
NI people LOL. most reservoirs come from bog runoff
Another ut5, Wolvie
It'll be filtered to all's no more, Ata.
i do this enough and i will no longer feel it is worth commenting on
ty haz and buff
hello buff
afternoon babblers!
Hello EvaN.

Hi JMC -

evening everyone x
hi all :)
hi kitty! hi liz!
hi Ata
so have you signed up for nepal then?
I will when I can find the deposit
Me too...probably!
you know you will :)
I just wrote a thing for the local paper about Peru and the charity - bit of a plug for further fundraising
I definitely will. I've decided that I can't wait already
will that be online?
I don't know but I'll probably copy it onto notes on fb for the others to read anyway
coool :)
I just looked. They have a website but only for info about the paper - not actual articles
I was havin great fun earlier imagiining Os having a hedgehog collection to play with
lol
its such a load of rubbish. how will I ever sell it?
it's amazing what people will buy, the rubbish-ier the better
I hope so! Hey, heres a secret...
I already have £250 for Nepal!
that you only might be going to .... LOL :)
but wow! thats a good start!!
Well if I don't go I'll just send it in with my book sales money
do DftD take the amount on 11th out of the keep giving pages? what happens if someone sponsors me now - could that go to Nepal?
anyway I have to go - Sam wants to play cards
hi Sam!
Um sorry I'm not sure how you mean
Sam says hi, hows Hobbit
I mean - do DftD just take £395 for the skydive, or do they take everything we got sponsored for? If that makes better sense!
he has his priorities!!
Hobbit is fine, she rolled on a very large dead fish this morning and was very pleased with herself
no they get everything
You will need to do a new JG page for Nepal
ahh ok, wasn't sure how that worked
have fun playing cards :)
will do :) speak soon :)
fireworks
congrats, wolvie
yay wolvie!
The sy?
add consonants, sally
goodmorning everyone
hy, lyn :)
hi DC. How's Toms progress?
hi lyn! hi stew!
going well, lyn, pain is much lower, so he's healing :)
Hi Ata
hi, ata
Seems like I've been adding consonants for hours to no avail.
Poor Tom. He must be sick of himself.
hello everyone :-)
add 2 consonants that equal F, sally
sy**ilis - an STD
Hi Katie
hello, katie.
Thanks dc, I finally managed it.
hi katie
taupe
ty!
thanks, sally
Sorry about that. I mean well but sometimes I just screw up. ;)
fine with me!
happens to most of us at some point
do that 10 more times please!
hi all!
hi nrk!
hi, nrk!
hi nrkii
just back - caught up in farmville. lol
dc... happy to hear Tom is feeling better
anyone need clues? and hello to all whom I missed earlier
hi Wolvie
ooh good news dc
ata - i was over at pole cats too - nice shots
heya lynxx
pics up in my profile from NJ Babblers meet
thank you :D
DC Babble meet-up at Mama Ayesha's in DC on Saturday 28 Nov. :)
nice shots on your profile too nrkii
Yes, that meet-up loooked like much fun, nrk
picked the place then dc - i was just going to give a suggestion - but this sounds cool. I hope I can get up there
I'm sorry I'm going to miss the DC one!
We'll be glad for whoever can make it.
travelling that weekend, nrkii?
at any rate dc - try Oyamel - friends of mine have been, said its pricing is similar to jaleo's and the food is great
yeah, I'll be with family and h.s. friends up in Massachusetts
wish i could be there dc,but with my papers,id end up having to move in with you;)
it's part of the same restaurant group; i've not been there yet.
oh, enjoy, nrkii
they said the salt air margarita was incredible. :-)
LOL crossy
ty seain
where in Mass nrkii?
hi crossy!
my parents are still in Springfield, where I grew up
firebirds!
congrats, ata
Congrats Ata!!
nice area - i was looking at property up that way
my hs friends are all over from Maine to Connecticut
we do have an extra room with a full bed
springfield! land of homer;)
Congrats ata!
yay atalante!!!
Maine is a lovely place
ya for ata
well, whatever you do, don't look IN Springfield -- it's a pit
Springfield Mass is also home to basketball
Maine is wonderful
yep, Springfield is where basketball was invented, and where the Hall of Fame is
my da went to maine years ago, said it was very nice indeed
that much i remember. but ty nrkii
or as crossy says, land of homer -- LOL
i want to go to Acadia Nat'l Park, hopefully in the next year or two
that would be DOH...
Acadia is nice, but there are also beautiful spots on Penobscot Bay that are a little easier to deal with
I used to walk along the bay in South Portland
once you approach or cross onto Mt. Desert Island, traffic is horrendous
I'd consider moving to Portland, if I could figure out how to move my house, my neighbors and my town there, and then get a job
i'm used to traffic
yeah, but traffic + vacation is just wrong
we plan our vacations, if driving, to avoid most of rush hour, which reduces traffic unless travelling through Deleware
95 in Delaware isa nightmare
yeah it's not really a rush hour issue, it's a TOO MANY tourists no matter what time of day issue
but if you go in the off season it's good
everything is closed, but it's beautiful
like, late October
we are up to our armpits in tourists here nrkii
Hi all! How is everyone today?
howdy science;)
hi, science
hi science
why so, crossy?
leaf pe4ers?
I have some horrendous viral thing! Dont think it is oinkie, but feel bad - fever shivers hot
we are the vaction area for toronto, they all come up here,golfing/skiing/fall colour tours/scenic caves etc
leaf-peeping season, is it, crossy?
okay, how do you spell the dish that you stew bacteria in?
indeed dc
petri
with a capital P :P
ah, okay, proper word is it?
named for the creator, yes
I ty4d it in 10 times, and even tried variations, and figured it had to be that
is there an error in the list?
which list?
lickety
not that i've found yet
I just opened it to get last few words, and I'm now down to just pu5 and I can't seem to find it
nm
fireworks
Congrats nrkii!
congrats, nrk!
yaa for nrkii!
I did what I always do, which was ignore the length of the word and search for one of a diff length... I needed a pu6... LOL
okay, must go pick up my car... had to get 2 new tires AGAIN... something is wrong wrong wrong with my car
bye all... happy babbling
njoy, nrk
getting uneven tire wear?
will have to ask next time, apparently :)
indeed
i'm curious too - alignment, frame bent, what's up.
ive generraly have the same rubber for the first 5 years of a new car
yes, that seems about right to me
i buy top end all season, and they are just coming up to 5 years, have put air in once lol
high-end tires are worth the money, IMHO
very much so..in around the 150 per tire range
a tad cheaper here, but yes :)
price diff is VAT vs sales tax, i think
and old tire disposal fees etc
starting in march we are going to a harmonized sales tax..god help us all;/
tire disposal has gone down where i live, as many are ground into asphalt now
a harmonized sales tax?
we have one piece of road93 miles long) they used 2500 tires for it! great idea
that sounds pleasant anyway
hst= all rolled in with the price, right now we use goods and service tax and and personal sales tax equaling 14%
i was just reading. Atlantic provinces have 15% harmonized it seems.
they've been playing with a GST/VAT instead of income tax here. Pigs will fly, i'm betting.
problem is hst will tax things that never had tax before,or if it did,noe tax only and not the other..for example gasoline right now only has gst on it of 6%..with hst it will have 15 5 tax or more;(
15%
so gas will end up around $1.15 per lire
sitting around a dollar atm
we dropped sales tax etc in favour of GST quite a few years ago, we are all used to it now. Still have personal
state i live in all goods except prescription and non-prescription drugs are taxed.
personal income tax that is
interesting,but this is gonna hurt
things that were not taxed b4,like baby food and diapers and milk will all be taxed uniformly
You do get used to it, in fact I don't even think about it anymore. Especially as I don't do bookkeeping anymore - and have to do GST returns etc
we are paying about 0.63-0.65/liter here in this part of Virginia for the cheap gas at the moment.
though this years taters are in!!:)) $1.50 for a 10 pound bag of the best spuds ive seen allyear;))
lol we only dream of 60 cents per lit
cheap!! we pay between $1.10 & $1.30 per litre
yes,hst will be easier for doing the books
well, it's 2.49-2.59/gallon. So still $1 more per gallon than 3 years ago, if $1/gallon less than last year.
we will be in your price area by march next year lynxx
cheap gas dc
but my uncle in london U.K has been paying in blood for years;(
yes, i remember growing up how much very more expensive gas in QC was.
quebec is usuall 10 cents above us on a regular basis
but i saw this coming as far back as 2002,and got rid of all my old clunkers
good call, crossy
i was in petroleum biz for 15 years;/
my Honda gets ~26/gallon, the acura ~30/gallon. Then we have the Dodge at 18/gallon if running with nothing loaded, and ~16 fully loaded.
my echo is now 5.5 years old, gets 45 miles to the gallon on average and takes 30 dollars to fill;)
very, very nice, crossy!
i sold my dodge ram..100 dollar tank;(
we have a Durango. $75 each fill last time we drove it on a long trip.
ouch..here a durango fill is 85 dollars
give or take
ah, look at all the lonely pe6 LOL
huh, it's a fig tree
biggest fill i ever had at my station was a chevvy suburban and it took 155dollars of gas at $1.05 a lit
wow
$57 biggest fill for my CR-V at 3.89/gallon
am i ever glad to be out of the gas biz;)
why is that, and which sector were you in?
killing yourself to make 3 cents a litre;(
i was an independant,we used a hired haukler for our fuel and we loaded at the suncor racks9sunnoco) in toronto
there was a time when they used to give you 7 day billing9so you could sell what is in the ground first) but now it is all cod
wow, it's gotten worse then
company wis responsible for internal pump parts,i was on the hook for everything external, hoses, nozzles etc
the c-store margin was mine,i rented the building and the name
friend here says company covers canopy, and all pump parts. He has responsibility for building and grounds only. He's with Shell.
he is lucky
if you dont have a good c-store here, you wont make it with just gas
so you play a risk, you load in the smokes, sell them for 15 margin as a loss leader to get the cars in and hope you dont get held up
one percent*
in 15 years we were broke into(but never robbed) a total of 8 times
lol im hogging the chog sorry babble buddies
hey crosshair, i quoted you on my blog : http://bookdoctorgwen.blogspot.com/200 9/10/30-essential-new-words.html
looking...
and hi all, just here for a few mos
lol,liked my citiot eh gwen?:))
oh yeah, love new words as long as they're not stupid (like sniglets, yeach) 8-)
and gwen we have a local word that has actually been included in several dictionaries for the first time this year
also have one from babble rabble
elvii
oh do tell!
plural of elvis???
since we host the worlds biggest elvis festival we had to get a word that meant more than 1 elvis
as in, three elvii trick or treating?
EX--cellent
thought you would like it;))
it is very common here now and used in regualar dicource
i predict muppet will soon be a lower-case word
well, soon in historical terms. maybe in 100 years lol
so, one says EL-vee-eye?
long vowelll sounds on the pair of i,s
elv-eye
okay. like foci. got it
;))
well, running into clock, gotta fly, POINK
hi, back, sorry.
ciggies are cheap, cheap, cheap here in Virginia. Many a gas station here has thai or ethiopian restaurant anymore
dc,here cigs are like gold bars..10 dollars or more a pack and a big security risk
here, $5 /pack MAX, most about 3.5, and a carton is 28-35
in the mid 90,s a order of cigs would commonly top 30 grand
in DC and MD 5-7/pack and 50ish per carton
700 cartons or so
right
Hi, I'm back too
wb, lyn
hi all
Cigarettes highly taxed here to discourage for health. $13 per pack
hi jmc
sneaking in for a break
good on the countries that tax them
thats our govt,s intent as well lynxx
they are still too much of a cash crop here for that
hi, jmc, Mama Ayesha's it is. Wolud you be so kind as to handle reservations? We're look at approximately 10
lol, what is your cat playing at jmc
sure I would be happy to, what time? 7?
I pulled out a drawer in my business files and fugitive being a cat crawled in and took up residence
lunch is the plan, as i understand. I'll confirm again with lil*monkey
no not lunch!
ack!
:) we'll sort it out :)
I was sure we nailed it down as dinner but let me know so I can arrange my other engagement for that day
i may be confused as to timing, and i'm flexible :)
I wish I were flexible.
I am flexible in principle just not in reality!
lol :)
but even if it is lunch i can probably work something out
i discussed location, but not time, with Lil* at dinner on Saturday
Feldspar purrs at yall, by the way. She's curled up on my lap and part of the laptop
Thank goodness pe6.27 is a tr**, and not a sloppy way of spelling people!
That's it for me. Bye all - and bye Feldspar "nice kitty"
yes, i looked it up too, Lyn, it's a fig :)
all the lonely pe6, scattered through the woods :)
So why can't you have a tr**ful of figs?
tr4 full of :P
though good question
If you're carrying them, you can have an ar6/33 ..
true
apparently our ancestors did not compoind tr4 and full as it's not a terribly useful unit of measure. An ar6 is only of some use, as quantity and volume vary by product and individual
Yeah, I know ...
oh, just stopped in and picked up a clue for ar 6 - thanks seain!
yaa crossy made his first blog;)
http://crosshairswolf.blogspot.com/
hi, jbv

Hello everyone!
hi, scrabbs
hello, scrabs!
How is Tom doing?
Owl, can you believe we met 48 hrs ago, had dinner, and played a great game of SuperScrabble together?
well, scrabbs, and a bit better each day. He's not needed pain meds for it in 4 days, and it only hurts moderately with cough and sneeze now.
amazing! and the yankess are winning! life is good...
hi scrabs
How wonderful to have this major surgery done and healing on the way!
Hi JM
indeed, scrabbs.
is there a py?
nm
hi again - hi Scrabbler!
there is alledgedly a y word, too.
hi jbv
py 4/7
Hi JBV! I forget, are you on Facebook?
the y is yp7 a mineral
nope, haven't fallen into Facebook yet
but I saw nrkii's photos - she posted them in her profile - we look mahvelous!
Yes, stunning!
you do all look marvelous!
well we were surely having a good time.
TO I thought that top was so cute!
oh, ty! i bought it here
okay 1/2 way -- time to head home
later, je
Bye Je
maybe I will figure out the pe6 fig tr4 by then *poof*
aoh here we go
hi all
Hi Doren!
have a good trip home scrabs?
hi doren! how was your conference?
i guess like usual... some good workshops, some not so good.
hi doren!
how many days?
unfortunately, sometimes all we can do is reaffirm the problem, and no one really has new answers... just last night and today. i'm home now. Hi jbv, waved when i was going up the parkway from long branch today
all of a sudden the fox announcers are jumping on hte yankee bandwagon. they are probably gagging
Long drive home (6.5 hrs) but beautiful countryside. I missed one turn that I adjusted for and I did not lose time due to it.
feel like i'm getting a cold today... hope no one else will be affected
that's good... this is a nice time of a year for a drive, that's for sure
i ended up staying in nj, nrk gps took us to 287 and i went from there
My sister + her husband were sick during my entire stay and thus far I have not gotten ill. But I am surrounded by germs at work everyday
you must have built up fabulous resistence!
i always wondered about our pediatricians (husband/wife combo). never seemed to get sick themselves, i figure they got exposed to everything during residency
We all got sick during our pediatric rotation as med students as it was Feb + March. And during residency many of us got ill. When we would get gastroenteritis we would give each other IV fluids so we could keep working and not get dehydrated
a dedicated bunch, you pediatricians!
29 left..may as well list and finish since i am in to watch the game
We do love the kids! I saw some real cuties today.
should be at a sports bar but i will run into orioles fans
scrabbs, i changed bunbun's food, and he's doing better. :)
and were the rabbits happy to have you home scrab?
Was he having issues with GI stasis? I use the Oxbow Bunny Basics T --high fiber, low calcium. Recommended amt = 1/8 cup per 4 lbs I think. Read www.rabbit.org. And Dana Krempels web site too--google her.
My bunnies just wanted their evening salad more than me last night. My nephew did fine with their daily needs.
hi dc, i didn't realize you have a rabbit too
heh
yes, a Dutch dwarf. Mostly white with grey ears and a two grey spots on back and one mostly grey rear foot
Mostly bunnies need unlimited amounts of timothy hay, orchard grass, oat hay...NOT alfalfa, that is for baby bunnies only.
he hates alfalfa
well i guess it's good if they didn't miss you sounds lovely seain
i give him timothy
One of mine is a barely 3 lb Netherland dwarf named Sebastian.
What time did the Yankees game start?
1613 EDT
bunbun is about 4lb. he's lost weight and looks healthy. He was a bit overweight before.
Well, I guess I could manage to park on the couch with my laptop.
he must be totally adorable. I love the dwarf bunnies
Alright, I will work on laundry and then watch the baseball game. BBS
bye scrabs
later
hasta, scabbs
Fireworks! I'm off to the grandkids soccer game. Be back later if anyone needs clues.
yay carol!
wtg, carol
is the ru word normal?
normal if you live in india
i mean the ru7
congats, carol
it's a comparative
yes, like a badly maintained dirt road - if it were any ru7, the car would vibrate to pieces
ty
hmm, hsould have gone to steakhouse/ sports bar for the game. starving
seain did i mention i went to another restaurant? called osteria 777?
i always like restaurants that have osteria in the name
no, where's that, TO
on west st, downtown naptown
naptown?
annapolis
ah, okay.
you liked, i gaher?
i liked the menu better than carpacio. i did. liked the decvor altough blogs ripped it. supposedly zagat rated, what does that really mean?
seain, evaN calls it that and I have seen/heard it here also so i assumed the natives refer to it so.
never heard it, not even from people i know that grew up there. Though things change over time
te6clue pls?
tie game!
te6 - te5 cloth, but with suffix
ty
i must go before i do harm to my laptop
seain no comment re zagat rating?
i find that the zagat rating can be useful, but very much not a be-all-end-all.
but one must join to see them
well, zagat MUCH more accurate than OpenTable :)
hi all.
hi, mkg
hi.
i'm loitering to clue, if needed
great! love clues.
ar 6 and at 6 please.
at6 - clothing - proper at6 required
ar6- an ar6 of laundry to put away
hello all! I am taking a short break before looking at the next item of "need" for class tomorrow. *sigh* and I thought being in school was hard when I was a teenager!
testify, stid!
and don't even begin to remind me about the housework that has been languishing today! LOL
going back as an adult is a whole other experience
(thanks for the AR 6 though)
yup, shure nuff, seain!
i have ar6 of towels in both the washer and the dryer right now myself
my machines are still going 'round and 'round.
how's you doing these days seain? still eating ice cream?
we had 3 (used to be) half-gallons in freezer and bought 5 more due to sale :) so, yes
AGH! *holds tummy and moans* that's INSANE!
my washer's done, dryer still going. Dryer takes longer
stidkid #2 is home, and Lucky is VERY happy to hear the bus at the end of the drive
:)
Harris Teeter has a flavor called Sothern Milk Chocolate, which a passing customer said tastes like a Wendy's frostie.
now I hear size 12 shoes coming in the door...
we shall see. we've not tried the ice cream yet.
brb kid talk
ah, size 12. so long ago i left that size behind
k
dc dont get the ar laundry one....armoir? no. arbor no, hmmmm
ooooooooh got it! funny word. they forgot the last letter. so cute. ty.
rofl... that's funny seain -- my best friend's son is now wearing size 15.
okay, hey mkg!
I hope the ice cream is good... that's a lot to buy otherwise!
go, mkg, go! :)
is the Y very fishy? or babblety?
my parents had to take me to a specialty shop for shoes growing up, as most places did not have 13st back then
yr7 is a mineral
so tell me, is that ar word a real word? i thought it was two separate words.
thanks seain *thinking*
it is a real word, mkg, an actual unit of measure
how bout a clue for the yr dc?
yp7 is a mineral, sorry :">
fe 5 18 please.
oh! YP! *thinking better*
got it first try! *proud mama look*
MKG, fe and yo* **e nice

yep. a fishy 4. one more to halfway,...
huh?????????? fe as in iron??????????isnt iron fe?
thanks for the french word, seain!
ohhhhhhhhh got it dc. thought you were cluing the y word.
halfway and taking a break to study. back later to finish. I deserve it.
yp - add vowel and a religious r word
njoy, stid
iron is FE, yes.
in the name of Jim Henson, enable should by rights recognize muppet. evening all!
hi, dan, and yes, many here agree with that sentiment
ty got y word. got it. fu 6 needed.
hello again kids
fu6 starts like ar6 ends, and finishes with a word for 'sea' in spanish/french/latin/italian, etc
wb, scrabbs
ty got it.
need pe 6 27 please.
need a clue for ar 6 pls
nm
phantom (limb): amputee
science: appendage you throw with+not empty, with no last cons.
last fe 5 pls
nm got it what is that anyway?
de are you cluing? need pr 5 `2
Hi SG....I am distracted by the baseball game--home run festival
i am ailing scrabs
Aw, what germ has hit you?
darn. cant get pe 6 27. was that clued?
no clue, just feverish and madam of mucosa
I have barely started this grid--just 36 words
Too bad, but you will get better soon. Fluids, acetaminophen or ibuprofen and lots of saline irrigations of the nasal plumbing system
look at all the lonely pe6 - it's an Indian Fig tr4
need soup and bed. stayed home today which i hate doing
pe5.22 - pe5 LePew
i am sick too with swollen eyes red and itchy and hurting. headach, and sore throat. hubby put me on antibiotic.
I hate losing days to illness
mkg that is how it started with me. taking cipro but no help probably viral
How many days have you been sick so far, mkg?
dc dont get clue for pe 6. people not in grid.
Yep, antibiotics won't help the cold/flu stuff and be careful of the side effects too
mkg try a kiddie spelling
Aha, TY, Seain
dan i dont get it either!
sick today. yesterday eyes began but wernt so bad. today is horrible and i had to work all day.
kiddie spelling of what?
mkg, spell pe6 like people is spelled
is pronounced rather
pe6 is an Indian fig tr4
oh my gosh. i got it. terrible word.
ty. cute.
well done, mkg
ty.
need pr 5 12
one who pr***, built from the verb pry
thanks for the Eleanor Rigby clue, seain. It worked for me right away!
ty. got it.
yvw, bugs. i've always liked that song, and it's fun to perform, too.
gonna make some food, bbs
ru 7 plz
I don't like this grid, so at 40/72 I have had enough. See you tomorrow.
mkt, it's like pe7/32
bye, scrabs
it has the same ending as most of the other 7 words
*mkG
bye Scrabbler
ty got it.

ty got it
ar 6/33 pls
te 6 18 plesae.
how much you can carry in your top appendages
the ar 6 that is
go angles
te 6 18 plesae....................
hi all, again
go angels
thanks jmc
hi jen
hello again all, would you help me decide if I just had a "bad parenting" moment, or a "bad teaching" moment???? *confused mama look*
yw big
hi stiddie
of course, stid
i am sure you were fine *sitting down with bourbon to listen*
te**up would be a great word. but not in grid. to te**up, like getting ready to cry. right? we should make that a word.
it's about algebra... *waits for mathphobes to exit chog*
te6.18 - te5 cloth - add suffic
e 6 18 though plz???????????????dc????????????
suffix rather.
k, algebra
thanks... stidkid#2 had a rate-time-distance question that involved three steps.
not a math phobe go on
k
(hi everyone .. listening to stid's dilemma)
first step, solo elephant separates from herd at timepoint A and once startles runs at 25 mph to reach herd.
(hi welki)
listening too
anyone got that word, te 6 18??????????would love a clue. sorry stid
second step, herd is moving the whole time at 10 mph. so when first elephant starts to run they are still moving...
moving away or towards?
te6 - te5 cloth, change last letter to he, she, **
ty ty
(forgot to say it takes elephant 5 minutes to reach herd) still second step, need to know how far the herd moved in that 5 minutes.
So far, the kid is with me, though panicking periodically throughout.
ok
good ? jmc, herd is moving away.
ok, with you, stid
can i buy a vowel, please?????????????
ok got it
away from the bakery or the zoo, jmc
(omg 11th inning)
so after figuring out how far the elephant went in five minutes, and how far the herd went in five minutes, you subtract herd's distance from elephant's distance to know how far the herd had gone WHEN the elephant first spooked.
ok
right, stid
the missing piece was that last subtraction bit. And the fact that this required more than one step. And the fact that stidkid thought a picture wasn't necessary...
when i
okay
when I diagrammed it for him, and talked him down from the ceiling and he looked at it, he understood where I ended up, but didn't know how I knew what to do.
'k'
5/6 of a mile
and I am not sure how to explain to him that I had to draw a picture in my head before I could understand what to do.
kids always look like that at old pleople who can think...
(giggle torg sshhhhhh)
1.25 miles, I think tor...
LOL thanks Bugs! *checking for new gray hairs*
So what is your question realy, stid?
that sounds like a normal toonage reaction to what happened.
teenage rather
what bug says--your problem?
elephant went 2.083 miles in 5 minutes, herd went .83 miles in 5 minutes.
linear equations are easier to puzzle out if you draw the problem ... stid2 is a boy or girl?
LOL "toonage" is PERFECT! it's what he likes to watch on tv!
now I think it was a legit and insightful question for the stidkid myself --- how did you know what to do?
the problem is, is this me not connecting at a mom level, or me not connecting at a teacher level?
you mean you want to know if your answer is right to the problem or if drawing it was a problem.
stidkids are BOTH boys.
and your answer was great --- i drew a picture in my head first --gives him a model to follow in the future
hehe .. you'd think they'd want the visuals, then *lol*
I know the answer is correct, and that my approach is appropriate. I just don't know how I might have explained it differently.
i think your explanation was great
you were more instructor in role, if mom in person. As for how explained, breaking it up as you did here seems appropriate
it's basically a logic puzzle with a math compnent
you connected your model with the correct solution
In my opinion, you taught him well by getting him down from the ceiling first, and then showing alternate ways to get to the same ending. I would have done what you did too because I am a visual learner.
yes, what jmc said
I suspect he just needs more time to manipulate puzzles like this in a less stress-inducing situation.
me, i would have looked at him and said, "THIS is why you need to learn algebra ... to help your kids"
If stidkid #2 is one too, you just taught him a new strategy
LOL welki
i often draw a sketch for my math problems
Thanks all -- I knew the wisdom of the chog would give me some good insights.
rofl at welki, and very grateful for Bugs' articulation of my approach.
stid is very often in instructor mode with her kids -- I've seen her in action.
jmc, you've "been there" with your son -- should I just let this one simmer on his back burner for a while?
Hi all :)
JILL!!!!! ((((happy happy hugs))))
On the other hand, if he still didn't get it, he could be a kinetic learner and he would have got it if you both walked like elephants and used his whole body to grasp it.
my poor kids are NEVER "out of school!"
I would. he needs to think it through on his own -- but offer to go through it again if he wants
that's a good point, bugs! I bet that would have helped!
hi jill
bugs knows whereof she speaks.
hi, jill
bet they are both pretty smart tho stid. Mine always suprised people by odd things they knew
I did actually have him use an eraser as an elephant... while my eraser was the herd. That sort of connected for him. *considers whole-body learning for next time*
good idea
I have to go in a few minutes -- bridge night -- but just wanted to drop in and see you all :)
hope it goes well for you, jilli.
of course, as their mother I like to think they are BRILLIANT! but this one's confidence in math was seriously shaken by a bad experience in 6th grade and he hasn't regained his interest since.
Kids who need to use their whole bodies are often into sports. Is he?
i have ar 6 and ar 4 what am i missing
smells like rice is done, bbs
bridge. BAH. WAY too much math and logic in that game for me! LOL
thanks seain.
at6
Have fun tonight Jilli. It is always good to hear from you.
ty dc
I have to head out again too. (((hugs all))) see you-all later tonight! *mini poof*
I've been a math-phobe because of skipping early grades and never really getting the picture (visual learner here too)
bye stiddie and dc
that happened with me, too, jilli. it was only after i returned to school as an adult and was lucky to have a WONDERFUL math professor that i learned to enjoy math .. enough that i tutored for a couple of years
i used to get so bored in math because they kept teaching the same thing over and over that I made up personalities for the numbers and used the math to tell a story
all of the numbers secretly wanted to be 10
bridge for me is visual -- seeing groups of things.
like bo derek?
what fun, jmc!
lol no more like the president of the numbers
But I'd be a better player if I were a mathie
help with the pe6/27 please
the even numbers were generally the good guys and the odd numbers were generally the bad guys
pe6 who love pe6 are the luckiest pe6 in the world
but spell it like barbara sings it
pe6/27 can be thought of as a dumb way of saying people
great clue, jmc!
The early years are important for visual learners Jilli and I was lost until grade 6 when I was introduced to cuisenairre rods. They have different colours for each number and I could manipulate the colours in my mind but not the numbers!
I always felt sorry for 2 and 4 though
ty- was trying to figure it out since the O is note near the e
And I have ALWAYS preferred even numbers for the same reason jmc. Why sorry for 2 and 4"
well they were so ineffectual and could never get even close to being 10
i can see being sorry for 4, being divisible and all, but 2 is prime :)
bugs, I got a taste of those rods in early grades and enjoyed them but was boosted to the next level too fast.
5 was a real go getter even if for the bad guys and pretty likaeble
I think that is why I had to go back in grade 6, Jilli. To fill that gap.
lol never thought about 2 being prime -- that puts his position in a new light!
I should have said in an early grade. This was a Brit school and I must have been about 7 years old.
Multiples of 5 are okay because I could recite them quickly and thot of them as cowboys on horses galloping to the rescue.
With all that skipping, I ended up about 2 years younger than the rest of my class.
multiples of 9 were always interesting to me because they always added up to 9
same with me, jilli .. graduated high school at 16. both good and bad
oh yes, I enjoyed that 9 business, jmc, and the 11s
Only once for me but it was hard enough at puberty and when everyone else got their drivers licenses at 16. Tough times then
and I liked that adding 8 to a number meant it was the next two down such as 4+8 = 12 or 2 down from 4
welki, I was only 15. Graduation from my HS in NY was then twice a year and my grad was in January, 16th borthday in May.
my mother and my second sister graduated hs at 16
mine too. i graduated in january, too
I was too busy making up stories about numbers lol!
In my day we didn't get driver's licenses. It was wartime in May 1943!
That was cruel Jilli. How did you manage socially in high school?
(and it was from a ny high school, too!)
yay food
Oh, I had a *great* time, with many friends! Still in touch with my best buddies!
angels win!!!
Was very much involved with the award-winning school paper.
where in NY, welki? I'm talking NYC
where did you go to school in ny, jilli?
yeah food? hungry?
lol .. i went to springfield gardens high school in jamaica
You were so lucky then. When I did not mature emotionally as fast as my classmate, they used me as a target for their sick humour. It warped my confidence for years.
(a suburb of queens, nyc .. for those who aren't familiar with the neighborhoods)
Richmond Hill High School, in Queens. Alma Mater of one Cyndi Lauper (way past my time)
well then, HELLO, neighbor! (sort of!) ... right around the corner!
Oh my, welki! Pretty close!
Cuisenaire rods. huh. new to me.
Tiny little world!
yep, and look at us now on the opposite side of the continent!
is that the same as jamaica plains?
I thought they were Montessori.
I still use them with younger kids seain.
my best friend in houston went to hs in queens
Strange how things work out -- you fishing in St Mary Lake right here!
i think jamaica plains is in boston
Jamaica Plain is a borough of Boston, yes
you probably watched me flip the unsinkable boat, jilli ... yep, that was me!
oh okay i am totally a southerner even after 30 years up here
Too bad I don't see that lake from here, welki -- but one of my bridge buddies overlooks it.
Damn -- gotta go zap a chicken pot pie!
more help with the at6 please
we had such a blast there ... the kids loved it and we even had a beautiful rottweiler stop by for visits
proper at6 required
what you wear jmc
bye jill
at + rubber to the road
sigh ty all
bye, jilli
i kept flipping the e with the r
ttfn all *leaves cursing*
have fun. jill
pe6/27?
look at all the lonely pe6 - Indian fig tree
pe6 = urine + not push
Thank you DC and Dan!
ha! fireworks on the plural wombs! take that, u!
congrats, welki!
thanks!
congrats welki!
whoo hoo welki

*perks up* SUING the fans???
Hi there, Stidmama. Hope all is well with you.
they were so embarrased about that they relented
fired the coach today (like THAT was a surprise)
yep. some peeps decided not to pay for seasons tickets due to losing jobs and what. So, skins sued instead of offering to those on wait list
jmc makes point
Thanks deseain, still working on it.
pb dc
wow, talk about BAD customer relations!
And they still resold the tickets ..
indeed, stid
current owner group rather sucks
yes peach, things seem to be progressing nicely. made lasagne again today. We put the extra one in the freezer for later in the week when I am too tired to cook!
one woman they sued doesn't believe in participating in courts so she didn't answer and then they forced her into backruptcy

hey again DR! was going to ask how it's going for Jake? my younger son has been struggling with adolescent hormones this past week.
Barbara would be so proud
LOL sue
rofl... poor poor Ms. Streisand, a babble clue!
adolescent hormones??? horror!!! that is my clue to go to bed
Hi Stid- we are hanging in. His grades are good but he has the attitude
if only it were so easy to hide from them kje!
Hi KJe !
AMEN Stid!
well, stid... it IS for me - LOL
hey dr, and gn
poof
I am glad he has a male teacher this year
oh the attitude! *shudder* not sure why I am going to teach middle school, except that I know many of them are fine at school and let their parents have the full treatment
and when the kids ARE coping well, they're lovely.
sweet dreams kje
yes, our children have some good male role models at their schools. I think we got lucky.
yes- he is not always nuts..just sometimes
The teacher is very calm but stern
calm is good -- stern could go either way.
HE emailed me because Jacob was behind in his reading for book discussion
ah -- nice to have communication!
Jake said it was because th ekid in the book was teachinga 4 yr old th e"F" word andhe did not like that--- the whole RULES thing
I have spoken to most of our younger child's teachers this year and reminded them to tell me the minute he starts to struggle. Because I am in school I might not notice otherwise.
Good thing to do Stid!
I can understand his reaction. And I personally wish there were books available to younger teens that didn't use such language.
This teacher posts grades and emails- I love it
The elder child doesn't want my interference so I decided to step back completely this year. He isn't sure he likes that either...
The book is called " Surviving the Applewhites"
hm. I'll have to look that one up.
It is a learning experience for all Stid_ just tell them they did not come with instruction books
I think the author is Stephanie Tolan
when my best friend's book is picked up by a good publishing house (we're nearly there) and published, that will be a nice book teen book with NO swearing :)
let us know when that is Ata!
yes, that's the author. She has a good rep as a teen author.
what DR said!
soon hopefully! several publishing houses are interested, at least
I figured she did as I have heard of her other books
I am reading a kids book called " The title of this book is Secret"
on the other hand, I know that for older teens at least it's important to have the language in the book reflect their own lives... It's a tough choice to make: model only the language they need for academics, or acknowledge that their lives as they live them also have value; no matter what, someone is going to disagree with some of your choices.
by psuedononymous Bosch
I have heard of that one DR!
It is hilarious ... laughing out loud!
Yes Stid- I told Jacob that he knows what is ok and not ok in our home and that reading it for class is ok as long as he is not saying it!
The one I really liked this summer was quite new: "The Graveyard Book" for younger teens and older elementary. Only slightly gruesome, and I think all but very fundamentalist people would enjoy it. Just enough macabre and scary and gross to be truly interesting.
That would be my approach as well, DR
I could see it as a Tim Burton film, to be honest.
I will look for that one Stid. He is into the whole vampire thing right now ... when not reading Percy Jackson
neil gaiman is the author
ok thanks
Neil Gaiman is amazing
good to know!
yep, I think so too atalante
he has a wonderful blog, if you ever get time to read
well, I think I feel better enough to see if I can figure out one of the assignments for this week. I seem to be continually perplexed at this stage of my education.
glad we could help Stid- : )
thanks again atalante (((hugs))) good to see you for a change! ((((DR)))) from one parent to another, hang in there!
