quite well, actually, jilli! They had made a mistake with noting down the appointment and when they found out it was their mistake, they were so very nice. Even the doctor :) And the test wasn't as painful as they had said it would be. I got the doctor to tell me what he was going to do and I didn't panic at all.

terra is almost 10 months now and all the patient teaching is bearing fruit now! He is an adolescent now, of course, and can be very headstrong, but on the whole he is quite manageable

i interviewed today with a recruiter, who is shopping me around, and i've applied for two jobs with the Fed Gov't - one with the Bureau of the Census that i'd rather like to have, despite the commute.

the economy is picking up, and here around DC, it's never as bad as some places, as the Gov't sector grows to make up for the shrinking private sector and vice-versa when the economy is good.

Hi stid. I am so glad to say that he is doing much better now! We think the worst has passed but he is still in hospital. He lives at a group home for adults and the home is now sending someone to the hospital for a few hours during the day so his parents can go home to sleep and shower. It was a long frightening week for them.

When I think of Skinner, I always think of operant conditioning and rats. Ugh. I can see the basis of both his theories and his followers though. We've learned some great things in some horrible ways.
one thing I very much agree with Skinner: he felt that punishment was applying reinforcement at the wrong side of the action: he felt you should provide reinforcement for desirable behavior, rather than waiting for undesirable behavior and then using "aversion"

A lot of my profs are advocating online participation lately, including postings on a class website and things like that. Having no internet can actually be hard on your schoolwork in cases like that, sadly. I even have one class with all of my readings online.

I do stid but according to the teacher's union we are not allowed to teach because we would be taking their jobs away. I work with the ones who have learning disabilities, behavioural or mental health issues because they can learn but they need it taught in different ways. I love them even tho it is more challenging. It is why I don't want to be a teacher.

What I like about what I do is that I can create a parallel curriculum for kids. Teachers don't have time to do that and it allows me to be creative.

that's a great point -- one of the reasons we homeschooled for a while was the ability I had to craft curricula that met my children's specific needs, "scaffolding" the areas of difficulty to bring them up faster without making them work below level in other things.
Yes Bugs, I am very much looking forward to that. I wish you'd been able to meet "Dilly" -- she was a babbler who lived on SSI that I met the first visit. She was teacher on one of the company-owned islands for a while, and had some great stories.
