he is such an amazing writer too bad he's no longer with us
I love your poem westford
thanks but not mine just one I received
I don't know what happened. He was so young and I knew of no health problems. He just woke up in Heaven as my Dad would say.
it does have a visual quality though lol

Goodnight to my fellow babblers!I'll see you tomorrow

bye min
goodnight Min
hello all, just getting back in.
sweet dreams min
how's the new grid
hi stid hope your T day was nice
Hi stid.
NBT
thanks west, I slept most of today (flu), and we watched a lot of TV. how was your day?
go flosey go!
wtg flosey!!!
about the same flu here too lol
well done flosey
oh dear, stid -- sick again!
hubby said he was thankful for me and I said I was thankful he didn't know any better
((west)) sorry to hear that! hope you feel better soon. I was just glad to be able to sleep and not worry about having to be anywhere.
rofl west!
not a nice way to spend a holiday!
I know what you mean sometimes it is nice to just stay home
we'll do Thanksgiving at Christmas when CA daughter and her husband come home
I stayed home and spent about 4 hours deleting old emails and trying to clean up stuff in the computer.
we don't actually celebrate holidays, though so it's not a big deal that way, jill --
will have all the kids and grandkids and my mom here
sounds productive, jill! LOL I will do that when I am done with this quarter (as of 2 pm dec 11)
sounds like a BIG gathering, west! mccurlschool was having a big "do" at her place today
do you not delebrate for religious reasons, stid? or is that too personal a question.
had a so-so visit with family but a wonderful, long visit with an old friend who's my mom's age -- in a wheelchair but still sharp as a tack!
sounds nice une
it's a little of religion (we are not judeo-christian) and a little bit of rebelling against the excesses of our society, Bugs -- I don't mind the question.
long history of work in theatre and in politics :-)
bonsoir, Une! excellent that you had a nice visit with your "old" friend, sorry about the so-so visit.
there definately are a lot of excesses in society
but I stupidly d/l'd an emoticon thing and can't get rid of it. Went to Control panel and removed it, so now it doesn't show in the list of things I have, but it's still there, even after restarting. Grrrr.
hey, stid, sorry you were under the weather but glad you were able to take it easy :-)
it will haunt you forever jilli
that is strange, jill -- I probably know how to get to it. You mean it's showing up on the desktop, or that it is showing up in your list of programs from the start menu?
it only shows up when I go to Firefox -- nowhere else
hm. did you try clearing the cache/cookie thingy under "tools" in firefox?
iratis = the inflammation that occurs when anger is suppressed?
Not yet, stid. Will try.
good one stid
Although I ran Norton cleanup ans WinDoctor etc.
that's why I yell a lot lol
btw west, your granddaughter's first turkey looks WAY better than mine did! I forgot you were supposed to defrost for two days in the fridge first... (it was a BIG turkey). my mother in law still thinks I don't know how to cook.
a turksicle? lol
*grin* pretty close, actually! LOL
No change, stid.
west LOL
she was so proud
sorry jill -- not sure what else to suggest.
oh! Tom says I can come up for a couple of days by myself toward the end of the month... if you will be around? I was thinking the week before the new year.
thanks anyway -- I need to get a techie here anyway
I know that Bugs wants to get together too --
but I don't know what the weather and such will be like. Last time I made plans to see you-all in December... LOL not sure YOU want to risk it again!
hi and nbt
hey joshua!
If Jilli is up to it, I will come down unless the RCMP says not to.
hey, joshua -- NBT here too
hi josh good job!!
Well, I may be back from Mission by Dec 27 -- still working that out so can't confirm anything now.
wtg une too!
I have one to go
how far north of jill are you? assuming you're not on SSI -- past comox?
still 3BT here -- I chat too much, and CNN is on too
okay, it's just a thought -- and not fully formed yet. let me know when your plans are complete!
go jill go!!!!
at Comox stid. It is a small valley with smaller places circling it.
if only some words didn't start with vowels
exactly half way, off to bed, very tired tonight
be back in the morning
yes, I know comox. :-)
goodnight all
50 to go and off to bed as well -- byeee
I have kids and friends in Victoria so I can be closer to SSI if need be
sweet dreams flosey, love to mr flosey! ((hugs))
sweet dreams une!
I live in Courtenay
tx stid :-)
goodnight flosey and une pleasant dreams
yes, I know where courtenay is also!
hooray nbt found the lone e
I don't know which community you live in tho. Is it a long drive for you to come north?
tx west . . . looooong day :-)
Stid, the ferry situation here has deteriorated -- they've changed the Swartz Bay accesses and we can no longer count on making the connection to the mainland, so may have a 2-hour wait if we miss it. The ferry bosses don't give a damn about the people, just the money.
good job ursh!! peeking over your shoulder
I live at the very southern end of the Sound, Bugs -- near Olympia. It takes a good half day to rich Victoria.
audience calling for more
oh no! that is rotten, jill -- I remember you-all were worried about that the last time I visited.
ursh! ((hugs))
Still you live in the pretty part of WA
big hug for ursh!!
hi ursh!
NBT !!
and thanks, ursh
a couple years ago I took the ferry across from Pt Angeles with the kids (carless) and used the city bus to reach swartz bay so we could get picked up by Jill and flosey at supper time. THAT was an adventure! LOL
go west go!
thanks ursh
now that I have had my clever moment for the day - better get off to work see you all later
wtg west!
yes, it is a nice part of the state, close enough to both Seattle and Portland for the occasional times we want things only cities have and far enough from Olympia that we don't feel too citified.
This time i could meet you and we could get to jilli's ferry together if you like
see you later ursh!
take care ursh and here's some applause from me
thanks jilli are you 2 away now?
just missing the O in the centre column now, west
under the c ?
me too jilli. I am blind to it
that is the root they use in perfumes, jill, I think.
bugs, that doesn't make sense for you, when you could get the Crofton - Vesuvius ferry 5 minutes from me.
ty stid
that might be nice, bugs, thanks. let's figure out the details once we know what day(s) suit jill?
NBT :)
yippee yay jilli!!
that is true also -- crofton is a nice quick ferry ride, too.
But if it make travelling easier for stid, I don't mind. I could spend the night before in Victoria to make it easier for everyone
good job jilli
well, bugs, let's work that out later. Would you and stid mind sharing my guest room (twin beds)?
there are also raelite and saanichcat who would like to get together, will see hetty separately so she doesn't have to leave home.
brb
I am happy with that, jilli
well, that sounds like a Sidney gathering again, stid, with flosey too -- but at the end of December???
I am off school then and have to go back Jan 4
I was thinking maybe I would let them know when I am coming and let them decide if it works to meet me in Sydney for lunch on my way to SSI.
Sydney is in Australia ;)
that is, if hetty will be available. I haven't heard from her in a long time.
lol jilli that is a long detour
Sidney is in BC ;)
sorry, sidney.
yes, I am feverish again. my tyops are increasing and I am not catching them quickly
*!*~*!* ta da *!*~*!*
YAY nan!!!!!
I haven't heard from Hetty lately eithre but will be having lunch on Sunday with some of her friends who may have. She still plays Lexulous though.
very nice nan!!
YAY nan!!!
ty - good night all -- see you tomorrow :)
Have you finished nan! Wow, I had better head off to bed now.
Just teasing, stid, about Sidney ;)
glad she still plays lexulous! I will try to write to her tomorrow.
I know jill -- some days I get it right, some days not!
Nite all. PLease keep me posted on travelling plans asap so my kids don't plan to come up here to see me at the same time I am down there! It has happened before :(
sweet dreams, bugs! and always put your kids first. I will definitely come next year when the weather is predictably nice!
sounds good. I hope you feel better soon.
Will do, bugs, but right now I'm a bit overwhelmed at new Xmas plans I have no say in :(
stats for the lone e please?
not again, jill! *stern mama look* what say you and I go the bahamas instead, and just let other folks join us if they want?
en6/21
that is the french applause word, DR
I have always wanted to visit the bahamas...
ty both- NBT
go DR!
not really GOing Stid- more like relaxing
ah, too much turkey?
no- just long day and had all th efamily over..
neck is sore and I am ready for bed
stid, Xmas dins will be with granddaughter's bf's family -- 6 people I don't know and I have to get small presents for them! And the travelling is a nightmare. Grandson won't be there -- going to Montreal to be with his gf.
hope it was fun, though exhausting?
* offers warm lavender neck pillow*
it was fun! Dan, Darth, my other brother and his kids
glad to hear it was fun!
ah- thanks Stid.. much appreciated
I am sure you will enjoy yourself, jill -- you excel at social situations (unlike me )
jilli will there be an announcement at Christmas dinner do you think?
anyone have the co 6/21 tha last one?
that must have been quite the housefull! I bet Jake loved having the cousins over.
(appears out of lurking mode)
Don't think so, west -- they don't seem to believe in marriage :(
hi ruru
hi ruru and no
yes Stid- They play Nintendo DS and Wii all afternoon
Hi Ruru
hey ruru!
I have one it's the guy at the helm
I am off to bed.... gnight all
perfect for young kids, DR!
sweet dreams DR! see you tomorrow
sweet dreams DR
west and stid -- this was the arrangement at our Thanksgiving in October. I hae nothing in common with them.
hi guys..
gnight Stid- Be Well
* Snore*
ah jilli youth is wasted on the young
well, you can always call in sick... LOL
I feel badly asking my mom to travel the mile and a half to my house
especially is there is that dreaded white stuff
yes, and Jill has to either fly or take a multi-hour ferry ride to get to her children and grandchildren, west. It's not convenient at all.
and the alternative is not so great
I plan on settling so far away from my offspring that there are no hard feelings if I don't make it to family gatherings... *wondering if my prepaid condo on the moon will be ready by then*
Can't fly -- danger of fog. It's the hour and three-quarters drive in possible pouring rain that I dread.
great idea stid !!
not that I don't love my children... LOL
After the ferry trip. It really takes a full day.
then don't go, jill. stay home where you are safe and warm and dry.
we get them all together once a year and then it's every person for themselves
But Xmas with my little family has always meant so much to me.
true, jill. It's quite a puzzle.
it does to me too jilli I am trying to get it legally changed to Sept
why not xmas in july? warmer weather...
preferably on my birthday lol
july can be brutal some years
next year we are going to San Diego
you mean the humidity? or the thunderstorms? or the tourists...
Maybe we should all move to Oz
DR lives near San diego, so does Tor!
that's an idea !!
no, OZ has dust storms drought and frog plagues.
I know would be fun to meet up
oh. and about a gajillion camels just invaded one of the towns in Oz , too.
how funny where'd they come from?
I was just thinking of a warm sunny Xmas
the camels were imported a long time ago for work in the outback apparently...
warm sunny xmas... cancun?
we could all bring our cabana boys!
speaking of oz just received this from a friend over there
http://www.fwdder.com/player/video/184 431/0
it's graphic but amazing
watching...
it's taking a long time to buffer. but so far she looks as uncomfortable as I did!
nature is wonderful
Hello all...did T'giving go off with a bang?

congrats Ruru
was my co the one you needed?
YAY ruru!!!
I didn't see your clue.. I finally found it on my own
I have a flu, lynxxx, I don't think it's H1N1, but it definitely not a lot of fun.
thanks if you clued it west. I didn't see it
I did and you're welcome lol
puts plastic bag over head
poor Stid - you had better swap notes with Ata or Jacq
ruru! *stern mama look and shake* you behave your self!
*hides all plastic bags*
just finished watching the elephant -- had seen it before but it's still fascinating. What wonderful creatures.
hi Jilli
yes, it's going around all right, lynxxx! I hope you are keeping good hygiene. *offers hand sanitizer*
wasn't it great jilli she knew just what to do
I wash my hands a zillion times a day
I sometimes feel OCD
Wow, ruru -- really! Well, that's what you get for lurking I guess.
we washed our hands on the cruise about that many times and we probably caught the flu at the airport
We went thru the worst of it some 3/4 months ago Stid. Not flu season here anymore. But we have enough vaccine now to do the entire population, I just need to do something about it
on the plane is more likely west
jilli.. do you know what the circus elephant said to the naked clown?
I need to get my vaccination still -- in case it's not what I think it is.
yes the one where we were packed in like sardines
oh oh... *waiting for punchline*
no, ruru, tell me
this is going to be good
"how do you ever pick up peanuts with that thing?"
lol
lololo
LOL!
rofl!
you made my day ruru
okay, I am down to 34, and need to get to sleep again. see you-all tomorrow at some point. **Hugs**

Good
I refuse to take dishes to bed
wolverines are fierce critters
they play good football
not this year
true
I'm mostly excited about Brett Favre
talk about a comeback kid
yeah, I never thought he would be doing so well
yes, west, that's the problem -- have to wash them and put them in their own beds.
comeback old person
night all -- enjoy your football talk
be well, jilli
I really like babble dishes and football
good night jilli sleep well and dream of clean dishes
time for me to check out too goodnight bab and all
be well, west
hi everyone
Hi Andree & BabRab
how are you lynxxx, is it hot in melb
Its been like Queensland the last few days, torrential downpours, muggy, and high twenties. My sarongs are getting a workout
You have had the storms too haven't you? how is the boy with them?
we have had only storms threatening, no rain for ages, last nights predicted storm never came
That's odd - Sydney usually gets lots of rain - maybe that's the El Nino effect
whatever wish we would get some rain
You aren't on restrictions are you?
not many, we can water daily evenings and wash cars
That's good, may not be a good downpour but..
That's 40 and seeing much more, bye Andree and all
bye lynxxx
hi! I was in bed by 9:30 EST, then bounced awake a bit ago - it's 3:30-ish a.m. and what else to do but Babble? :)
wow - did I miss everybody? I see jilli is poofed, and lynxxx. . .

Thanl you jaeleigh a great help
Thank you also Sally-catlover
hai sally
Hi Preethi
Does anyone have si6 the first?
There are way too many vowels in this grid.
can i have re6/33 pls
Not yet jaeleigh, sorry.
re+ zo4/9
Hi All - si6 - think mountain range
thanks jae
Dianne, i still do not get it...
nm!
si + mistake + vowel
si 5/10. I have two- need a third?
Do you have the Ravi Shanker (?) thing?
i don't think so
si + black, gooey road stuff
yes, i have that.. also fire si*** + si+ two co ns. + a
need another 5/10
Just got it - man's title + 3 letter word for male goat but drop last letter
Have to go now - muct stop at the market and then get home and cook some dinner. Bye all
si5/10 - Add another vowel to the end of the si4/4, or add a double helping of a vowel to a knight.
Haz, I have all those- it's hiding, cuz it's not in the dictionary, either
do u have the way to the second floor?
I found it- it's like si^/18, only drop the double cons. in middle
*6/18
5 left!
See you later, jaleigh, back shortly.
All done!
Anyone need clues?
Morning babbleland, anyone around?
me me!
just got here
Morning Ata, lovely sunny morning here.
And I'm back as well, though only for a minute or two.
Greetings Haz!
here too! just been for a walk with the mutt followed by trip to farm shop for nice veggies and stuff
La Haz! La Glitterata!
Good morning! Ata, you win the prize for most activity so far this morning. Unless FM can do better?
I'm steeling myself for a session of unpacking, will get the kitchen sorted today and then try and find any of my phones!
I saw the fattest Welsh Springer earlier. It poddled, not walked
Um, well I've been out and done the shopping but not much more than that.
Phone....
poddled - great word.
it very describes an old plump dog walking
yup. Oh Ata guess what ... there is a craft shop in the village, found it yesterday.
oh wonderful!!
*happy crafting grin*
yayyyy :)
hehheh :)
8 Z words!!!!!
I don't know 8 z words!
Well I guess I had better get on, rather a lot to do. See you later and bye to HAz too when she comes back. I will babble later. *hugs*
will do! have a wonderful day!
Darn, have I missed her?
by about a millisecond
Phone call was slightly excited husband reporting the aftermath of an attempted cash point robbery in a local village.
goodness me!
the excitement of life in Ballymena!
There's been a spate of these throughout NI - they used a digger from a building site to knock down a wall in the Post Office - it's not clear whether they got away with much. (How can they not know? Have they not got their blue CSI torches on?)
maybe they have to send off for special torches from Belfast
Maybe. It happened about 3.30 this morning and the place is still cordoned off.
special reinforcements arriving, I'm sure
I imagine so. I always joke that the emergency services like to get to a scene quickly and it takes forever to get them away again.
am doing my last MSc assignment of the year at the moment, in a group with 2 girls from Portrush. Random NI fact
yep, they start building tents and bedding down at the scene
Do you remember the whole anthrax scare a few years ago? We had a really funny incident where a wee granny opened a letter, found some powder, panicked and found herself being hosed down by men in white suits. She was interviewed afterwards by TV people and she couldn't have been more shaken if she had been abducted by aliens.
loooool poor lady!
In the background, said men in white suits were plodding solemnly in and out of an inflatable tent, still intent on finding anthrax.
and really it was a bit of french lavender scented talcum?
I can't remember what it was, but it certainly wasn't anthrax!
shell be telling that tale to the grandkids for ever more
*she'll
is a kitten a neocat?
I always like to hear firemen interviewed. They never speak in plain language, it's always 'We were alerted to the incident at 03.30 hours and we proceeded quickly to evaluate and assess the dangers.' etc etc. And that will be to a background of fully suited firemen hosing down what was once a fire, not even smoke coming from it any more.
morning, all
And if there's a paint tin anywhere around, the whole place for miles around has to be evacuated.
Good morning, aslindy.
and you get some that obviously *love* all the official language and some that look like that want to stamp on it
hi asl!
well, it is 5:35 AM... not sure I'd call it "good" yet
The ones that want to stamp on it are the ones gloomily hosing down the ashes so that the PC man can talk procedures.
We'll be optimistic and call it good.
I'm having great "fun" with this assignment - it's to produce a presentation about something or other to do with sea level changes. I can do this in my sleep, hands tied behind my back and goodness knows what else. They can't. It's quite amusing to listen to them come up with really stupid ideas. Then I feel really awful telling them things don't work that way!
actually, it is going ok... my husband took our daughter to a Black Friday sale to get her a computer... she got the last one! and the store opened at 5:00
Hooray for husband!
Are these girls a lot younger, Ata?
yep... they got up at 3 am so they could stand in line for 90 minutes before the store opened
At least they didn't camp out.
they were in the store 12 minutes... picked up the 3 items they wanted, and were done and home by 5:25
now they went back to sleep
That's pretty efficient shopping by any standards.
The fun will be getting it put together.
yes... I am wondering who that guy is... he NEVER comes out of a store with ONLY the items he went in to buy! LOL
a few years younger, but not fresh from university
hai haz how are u
Hello, Preethi, I'm well. How are you?
so I was highly amused that the first word I found here today was the cr 5, 22
That was a completely new word for me, never seen it before.
really? interesting!
No, the meaning says something to do with a groove in a barrel. Is there another meaning?
are you talking about the same word???!
no, you aren't LOL
I don't think so... cr 5, 22
Aha! There must be two cr5/22 and I've got the one with the barrel meaning, got the other one now.
there are at least 2 of them
oh, sorry.. .meant the first cr
The cr5/22 barrel thing can be extended to a 6 and 7.
I've not looked at the list yet, so didn't realise. It just shows you how you can miss the obvious.
well goodness me
So, yes, I DO know the first cr5/22 word!
have you got the nice Welsh co6?
lol
I don't think so...
I do now, I think.
such a pretty word
The side of a mountain one?
yep
The Scots are claiming it.
gah! they would.
I suppose they say that the Welsh equivalent is a cwm, but they aren't quite the same geologically
I hated yesterday's grid, as you know, but did get satisfaction out of knowing scunner. It aptly described the grid - an nuisance, annoying etc.
yesterday's grid was foul
Please tell me that you had to use a list.
yes, it was terrible.. I didn't even finish
I didn't finish it. Got to about 30 left and just couldn't be bothered to get out the list and plod through them
*smug* I did finish but it was nasty.
I really hate not finishing, but with that grid I just couldn't face another 20 minutes of trawling through the list!
you should be very smug
I couldn't have done it without either the list or morewords combined with a stubborn streak.
nice sneaky use of morewords.com there
Subtle. Practically subliminal.
I was actually thinking with pity of anybody attempting to give clues for lots of the grid, but maybe people just gave up or never started.
everyone was too busy eating turkey
That's what will have happened, you're right.
the tryptophan lulled them all to sleep
I think it put my brain to sleep, that's for sure
Milk of Magnesia not good enough?
they don't have that, it's too low tech
I had it once... it was gross
Am I right in my impression that the US people love their drugs, in the prescribed and legal sense?
some do, I'm sure
why use simple milk of magnesia when peptobismol has 10 COOL chemical things in!
The only time I was in the States, I was mesmerised by the number of adverts on TV for drugs. It was amazing, especially when they trotted out all the side-effects as well.
yes, the ads are a bit much
I think (this is generalising madly) that we rely more on tried and tested things, simple things that work, whereas in the US they have New and Exciting Drugs
Hello from the Hospital. Anyone need clues???
for example, none of the big supermarkets / chemists in Astoria sell arnica cream. We had to go to a shop called "Gypsy's Whimsy" to buy some!
I know I am thankful for certain medications... else I'd be sitting here with constant pain and tingling in one foot, and fighting to stay awake every day
There's a mindset among older people over here that some drugs are not to be trusted. So, they don't take the full dose of pain meds just in case their pain gets worse and they might need an extra kick later.
I'm okay, jaleigh, thanks.
talk about drugs...
and (these are just examples from people I know) when best friend's husband had flu recently, he sent her out to buy some special temperature-reducing medicines. Me: take a paracetamol! For goodness sake!
we're very simple over here! :P
I'm probably influenced by my mother who adopted a 'wait and see' policy with lots of things. Husband, on the other hand, gives no sympathy until you've swallowed some medication.
good ol' acetaminiphen!
absolutely! it's what's in most of the fancy meds anyway!
8 I SPELLED THAT WRONG. ON TOO MANY DRUGS!LOL!
good stuff
sorry about caps lock
for pain
Going back to the ads on TV, there's one on here for Immodium and every single time it's on, husband remarks on how he can't understand why an actress would take on such a role. 'How much did they pay her?'
ok, next subject!
more than unemployment does!
I am finally going home from hospital...
Just when it was getting interesting....
When do you get to go home, jaleigh?
After breakfast!
And do you have help at home?
sorry you've been in the hospital... you are ok now?
<sighs> Two self-absorbed young adults and their two year old....
No, I am going to need two more surgeries before I will be okay
sorry to hear that
I had a strep-womean-eating-germ that ate my leg and knee...had to close the wound a bit
So, the answer is' not really' to the question of help.
I'm sure the two year old will give lots of hugs and kisses, but hugs and kisses don't feed or wash you.
Yeah. I stayed thru Thanksgiving because there was no point- they were going to be gone...
Those kids do not let Lily into my bedroom at all...they are afriaD SHE WILL GET INTO MY "STUFF"... AND THEY LIKE MY DOOR CLOSED... IT IS REALLY AWFUL
well, I'm going to sign off for a bit... you all have fun
dammit I keep hitting the caps lock key!
good luck, Jae
Bye asl!
Thank you- gonna need it
bye asl!
bbs
It sounds like things aren't ideal for a speedy recovery. Hope it goes better than you expect, jaleigh.
I should go as well, I had only intended to stay for a minute or two. I'll blame FM, she's a bad influence.
See you later, Ata!
she is. it's awful
Terrible. It's a wonder we associate with her at all.
she's lucky to have friends
Very fortunate indeed, she doesn't know she's living.
I do hope she's reading this LOL
She'd not be able to resist joining in.
I know ... she must be busy. Outrageous
We'll tell her to be sure to read back later - it's for her own good. She needs to know.
She does indeed
I suppose I should go and read about sea level change *sigh*
Okay, I'm going! See you later, Ata, and enjoy putting those Portrush girls on the right track.
*gone*
I'm trying :D
Good morning, gang.
Everyone's gone to bed, is not up yet, is eating lunch or supper. Is anyone here?
good morning everyone
oh, Merk, are we the only ones in here?
Yes, we are. And I am stuck on the last co 5,12 ... the one after the center of the apple.
Good morning Merk and Flosey
I do have that one, co5/12 same first 3 letters + 2 vowels
No, the 6, 21 I mean.
sorry, don't have it
co6 = first 3 letters again, double the cons. and add two vowels
ty
The 5 has no double letter.
yw
And a different vowel at the end.
thankyou nono
your most welcome flosey
good morning everyone:)
morning Crossy!
morning Crossy
Morning Nono and Cross ... Flosey and I thought we were here alone.
just dance d my way out of bed 5 min ago
had my nose in the grid and wasnt watching the chog
Another unusual grid today ... I'm almost half done and haven't decided yet if I like it or not.
you dance at this hour of the morning - WOW
Yes. It's OK, I guess. Lot's of unusual words.
I drag myself to the coffee machine, then to the computer!
yes lots of unusual words but most can be monkied
so the thing is full of babblets..lovely;/
and that lonely little s gets tacked on to the end of lots of words today
*** FIREWORKS ***
yaa for nono!
WTG Nono, good for you
38 left and my stomach is growling
any clues needed before i get breakfast going?
the last co5 please?
It has the big pointer.
ty, got it
Think of how baby birds feel in a nest, but don't use the last vowel, change it to the 2nd one and add a consonant
think of being by a nice warm fire all warm and co** take off the last letter and put in **ter into the room thru the door
thanks Merk and Nono
yw
ra 6,21 clue please
i wonder how many babblers are out shopping this morning, joining in the madness of Black Friday?

Ah, yes of course. ty so much

It may be Flosey, its the kick off of the Christmas shopping season
stores offer a lot of good deals but quantities are usually very limitied
hi Preethi

thanks Nono, hmmm, good idea to get shopping early, but limiting quantity seems unfair
good thanks, just relaxing today after a busy Thanksgiving day yesterday
how about christmas shopping nano
not for me Preethi, too many crazy people out there today trying to find the bargains
Good monring/day to all. Yes, Black Friday shopping began a few hours ago. The TV news station showed people camping out last evening just to get a place in the front of the lines.
sort of like the boxing day specials - too many shoppers going crazy
good morning Scrabs
Your name is in the grid, Nono!

Ciris? Looks like the name of a Greek isle
maybe french
think I need an exploratory trip
There are many Italian islands in the Tyrrhenian Sea
cairo is in the grid
Hello All.
it's french officially but the name comes from italian. i think it has been disputed territory, historically.
hi hego
corsica
I'm glad to see we all survived Thanksgiving and hope all had a good one.
ding ding ding!
excellent, hego... nj, Kallia
Napolean
ty Aloy
Found it on the map
lol
Hi Hego
Didn't Italy give Corsica to France in some treaty deal?
It is French
the romans had it. the people of genoa had it (before italy was italy, i guess). the franco-ottoman empire had it. it briefly got independent. then france absorbed it and that's where it stands.
birthplace of Napolean Bonaparte
apparently the french did secretly pay off the genoese to get them to leave.
Because the people there still have Italian names and speak a stange French-Italian dialect.
while independent they were speaking italian.
yay for wiki
source of much information:)
it does facilitate learning a lot of random stuff.
yep
How is this grid?
I like it
Whoa! It's snowing! Really hard! Woo hoo! My snowshoes will be arriving in the mail today or tomorrow!
got down to 21 on first sweep
*envious of the snowshoes*
If the mail gets through.
what kind of snow, Scrabbs? light and fluffy or big and wet?
the grid: i have done the top two rows. missing two c's, got all the others. embarking on row 3.
I dont actually have any rows completed
Are you in the upper tier Scrabs?
well i just do it systematically, that's all. most people don't.
1 a missing from top and 2 o's and an n from 2nd
snowshoes are a workout.. but so much fun too
thats how I do it hushy...start top left and work through it
Small flakes. It won't stick though as it is 36 F outside
Hego, I live 35 miles southeast of Buffalo, in "snow country"...ski resort across the valley from me
i never would have thought it would be better but i tested it and it repeatedly produced better results than just finding words, so i stuck with it.
mmm,snowing i see..;/
Sounds nice, Scrabs
Hi Crossy!
howdy crossy
never thought of doing it any other way...
howdy scrabbs,aloy;)
Hi Crosy. Did you have bacon for TG
lol hego, our thanksgiving was a while ago
originally i just typed really fast all the words i could see, looking for rhymes to get a lot - that's the way to do well in boggle. but when your goal isn't speed, but finding all the words, and with the tile stats, this really does work better.
I didn't realize that.
the canadians sensibly celebrate in october
I must get ready for tennis. I shall return here this afternoon. Bye all.
avoiding the too-close-to-christmas problem and being able to still enjoy more color on the trees.
bye, Scrabbler.. gl in tennis
had to check hego, was second monday in oct
tc scwabby
Do you eat turkey also?
bye Scrabs
yes we eat turkey, but ham may also be used
Ahhh, the bacon family. LOL
big homey glazed ham,a nice veggie, stuffing, mashed tatties and gravy and of course yorkshire pudding
honey even
homey glazed is always good too
Yuuuummmmmm!
you make the yourkies hollow so you can put a dab of butter and a bit of mashed in em lol
Mmmmm, sounds good. I'm still stuffed from yesterday.
hi Gail.. me too
I did manage a small piece of pumpkin pie for breakfast, though.
Aloy, do you have the 7?
not yet, hego.. sorry.. almost ready for the list though
not to worry gail,it,s a veggie and thus guilt free;))
I have one 7. are there more?
Exactly!
Crossy, I love the way you think!
there are 2.
there are two 7's
both C.
Only 1 Harry
Oh, sorry two
We were eating Tim Tams before we went to bed last night, while watching Dr. Who specials. I had very strange dreams.

ok, i have 4 left, all C's, 2 top, 2 bottom, 2 4's, 2 5's... it's all very symmetrical
Wonderful chocolate fudge filled Australian cookies.

fudge filled cookies?..dont tell my mrs lol
tx guys
cr7 is pl for a tool used in barrel making, as if that is in your everyday vocab. lol
And you dip one end in your tea, suck up the tea and then pop it in your mouth just before it melts.

time for the list, 17 to find

done de done done..
Yay aloy!!

I think i'll just plod along. tx Aloy
Okie dokie.. happy Babbling.. and Happy Friday! see you next grid, bye for now..

it was a definite yum
Hello, All
And fireworks for me :-)
hi ZOO
I found this grid to be rather hard today.
WTG!
whoo hoo zooz
Tx Zoom I thought it was just me.
help with the w please
I don't do well with lots of vowels.
Hey Jmc..i was looking at the folding website lastnight..and some people on there are well into folding ...making there computers into super ones just to fold.
what are you we**ing right now jm? i'm still in my jammies
really how interesting.
we4 what clothes should i we***
then plural
ty zooz -- smack me with a fish!
Hello, Dorens
*SLAP*
hello zoo. and congratulations on finishing
Hi Dorens
i am dressed and ready for work dorens
glad to hear that j, but really was just trying to clue for you :)
how do make your computer a super computer? i thought that in effect all the computers folding made a super computer
Hello everyone!
I know dorens :-)
hi brookie
Hi Brookie
this is true...but they put about 5 top of the range graphic cards & top of the range processors into theres, so it can calculate quicker.
Hi Boo, Hi JMC
Hello, Brookie :-)
hi boobear and brook
sounds like more than i am willing to do.
same here..one guy has spent around $15,000..crazy money just to fold.
very likely has a close family member with cancer and feels helpless
*giggle* our conversation sounds odd i think to an outsider
to be honest Jmc..i think he is more interested in getting the number 1 rank..by the way he was talking in the forums.
Hi zoo!
Hi Dorens!
really? that is a sad sad story then
LOL, yes i suppose it would..:-)
i have not gone on the forums -- what do they discuss?
I like to try & help as my father died of cancer, so it is nice to know i am at least trying to help.
they discuss trying to make there computers faster and better than everyone elses..lol
What do they discuss? If you have to ask that question, you don't need to know! ( I actually have no clue as to what the heck you're talking about..folding?)
no one in my family died of cancer per se -- although my husband died of a hereditary decease closely connected with cancer
Please, keep me on a need to know basis. This is way beyond my world
gramma zooz, ata and i created a babble team to participate in folding@home
it is a program where you download some software and it allows your computer to help map molecules that will lead to a cure for cancer
Bye gang. bbl
did i explain it right zooz?
bye hego
Bye, Hego
Oh sure. I knew that. Would you like some of mine?
yes you did..but it is not just cancer..as it is folding proteins..and so they can find different cures of all types of illnesses
LOL, Gramma
afternoon everybody
how is the grid?
I found it rather hard..Hello Jacq
Hi Jacq. The grid is a little tough today. I can't believe there are 8 "z" words.
you can sign up for our team 173981 at folding@home gramma and you will never know another thing again if you don't wanna
Run jacq Run. They're talking about smart stuff. This is no longer a mindless word game. It's becoming an education. Aaaah
oh my, 8??
i don;t even know there were 8 z words in the world
i got one z word
hello gramma, i also fold proteins
the good news is 7 of them are `zo` 1 is `ze` :-)
I can only think of 2 "z" words in the world, jacq. :-)
thanks for the clue, zooz!
good to know zooz
zo4 what time zo** are you in
zo5, one who is in a zo4?
then extend twice for the other 2 `zo`s
what team are you on jac?
actress *** caldwell, add a vowel
*** caldwell, add 2 vowels
Hello , Annie!
Hi zooz!!
not too sure jmc, have been doing it for a while, when i was at college we joined as a team and apparently i am still there
mornin babblers!
but have also joined the babble team, but have never seen any sign that my folding is going anywhere but the old team
Morning, Eva!
would be nice if you came over to the babblers folding team :-)
Hello, Eva
i am there too zooz
very cool jac -- so each new computer you download the software?
yes jmc, but had forgotten to add it to the laptop till crossy spoke about it
have persuaded my mum to join too when she gets her new router
good thing he mentioned it -- it got me to add both of my computers to the babbler team that ata created
hi eva
Jacq..are you folding for the team id of 173981?
folding? what is this?
it's the number i put in for team babble, so yes but i don;t show there at all
thats what i see..wonder why that is?
right now am on 434/1500
mine is 315/500
maybe i had already ben working proteins from the pc and it needs to finish those before i can join babble?
good morning
heya jane
i find the smaller the number my computer takes longer to do...when i do the 2500 ones they are done witthin a day..lol
thats a point Jacq..you could be right there.

Hello, Harp
Hi Jane!
this is what i get when i go into stats
today i am 1500/2500
hi harp
zo4/9 zo and most of the word for consume
add another vowel on the end for another z05
when did you join the babble team jac? it took a few days for my stats to show up on it
a few weeks ago jmc
when crossy spoke about it in the chog, the same time ata set the team up
yes . i was in crossies team..but decided to do the babblers one instead..hope he did not get offended.
The only way you can offend crossy is if you criticise bacon.
are you denni?
how many letters in the lone e?
HAHAHA...yes you could be right there Haz..hello
crossy is just happy that we are folding
hi haz
Hello zooz, hello again to all.
no jmc i am jacquieg
hi haz...are you guys joining ANOTHER gaming site?
well that would be what i would assume jac
en 6 Harp
no it is a site that is folding proteins for science
uh...ok
ty zooz
en6 what people say at the end of a great show.
isn't folding proteins what causes dieases like Mad Cow?
your computer does it in the extra space it is not using
Hello TO!
thanks
Prions are implicated in BSE.
wow exactly half way, def time for a ciggie break
yw
i think my old tired computer needs all it's extra space for babble
i am ever the skeptic about such on line things
hi bichon and no folding proteins is suppose to find teh cure for cancer and other things -- tho don't ask me how I just trust crossy in this one
provided you have basic security it is safe TO
hb jac
ok, i am going to go and grab a bite to eat..take care all...hope to see your name on the babblers folding team soon Jacq :-)
I haven't a clue what it all means, TO, I'm just glad when the computer switches on.
me too zooz
me too!
So, put me out of my misery, TO. Was one dessert enough?
i don't really understand it except a vague idea that all the computers working together make a supercomputer that shortens the time to get an answer
i am watching a show segment on using leftovers. with 7 teens we did not have that problem
Leftovers always look a bit.... left over.
well - no, there should have been a finger food like cookies or brownies. and cake. there were two pies a pumpkin cheesecake and traditional swedish rolled cookies.
i know. i tasted all of them
Well, it's kind of your duty to taste them, isn't it?
Just to make sure they're okay.
Biophysics is what my son did his PhD in. It was using computers to do such a task. However, he didn't end up in that field
TO is a woman who knows her duty!
yes. elst i would opffend someone wouldn't i?
You would. The person who made the dessert that you ignored might think it was deliberate. You can't run that risk.
well i am just glad to help especially when it doesn't cost me a thing
TO is brave and self sacrificing in the extreme!
help with the top O for nbt

My husband made me the BEST turkey sandwich I have ever had this morning....YUMMERS!
TY harp
well i have nbt and need to leave to go pretend to work
morning, jmc :-)
does anyone have an icon clue?
Are you going backwards, TO? That's the way FM does the grid.
love leftover turkey! wish I had some . . .
hi une
later, jmc!
ty dan, have both i's now
not yet harp
ar 5/12?
bye all i will bbs
harpjane, I don't have one, it's not a very inspiring grid for icons. I'll need to think.
harp, my daughter's applied for a job in Maine -- think her car will perpetually look like your icon? LOL
lol une!
ar5/12 - a plus an anagram of the paddy field grain.
Bichon, I have the capital of france but drop the P and add an extra consonant in the middle....
ty again Haz

You're welcome, bichon.
Much clearer Une!
i ofund a 7 letter word. yippee!

co7 = those who steer the ship. or cheat you.
cr7/52 plural of cr6/36
ty
bye all!
later, TO!
Bye TO, drive safely!
those who steer a ship?
no idea about THAT clue, bichon :-)
back with an icon clue
did you read shogun?
and she's back LOL!
no
ok , ok... *poof*
The second part of the clue makes more sense....
....to me anyway!
I still don't get it
Also spelling of a popular irish boy's name
car, add hospital trauma center to co4/5
sorry, i mean bichon!
another good clue Une!
:-D
I think I understand the Irish boy's name, but I don't get the word
bichon - last name of Dan and Rosanne on the TV show.
Good morning everyone.
Good morning, TXZ.
hello all
TaDa! ty all
Hi, Haz -- I thought I ran everyone off...
morning, zinnia :-)
yvw bichon
Hi, une
Hello, peri.
Hi, periwinkle
morning, peri
wow, challenging grid
half way done and now just starting at it
Hello, kje.
hi haz
both yesterday and today i have this urge to write "hazmat" but would like to avoid getting slapped
Why hazmat?
just pops up when I write haz.... and is short for hazardous materials
as in hazmat routes for trucks off the main thoroughfares, etc
Well, that was a lovely little grid. See you all tomorrow
Now I understand,
Bye gramma, have a nice day.
seriously garndma??? you thought it was lovely? shoot, my brain must be slow today
We don't have special routes for trucks, the most we have are bus lanes.
I am not finding it lovely either
trucks carrying toxic things have to take alt routes around cities to avoid having to clean up hazardous spills in the midst of people if in an accident, etc
DR!!!
how are you KJE ?
they aren't special lanes or anything, just places the trucks aren't allowed to go
also hazmat stickers on train cars, trucks, closets in buildings, etc so if emergency crews are needed, they know what they are dealing with
You're all very organised.
here, haz - more than you ever cared to know
http://www.phmsa.dot.gov/hazmat
so if you ever decide to have a career as a rapper, my vote is "hazmat" as a name - very cool
LOL Kje : )
slightly dangerous and edgy - LOL
did you have a nice holiday, dr?
yes , thanks. I had the family over. Hubby cooked 2 turkeys etc... then he got up and went to the mall this morning
he is nuts
what about you?
hi everyone - happy post-turkey day
ooooo - I avoid that whole black friday thing - madness!
Hi JBV and Haz
coming back for my last 19- this is slow going today
yes, Jake wants an IPOD and they were a good price
no joke, jbv... very slow
Hello JBV.
extremely slow
hi haz, kje, DR
kje - saw an article in today's paper about a study showing the 2 happiest groups of doctors are pediatricians and geriatricians - do you agree?
my sister went as well, 0400 this morning to walmart - HP loaded computer for $300 - she had to do it
that data on geriatricians has been proven several times
I would think that obstetricians would be in the happy group. Bringing a bundle of joy
but remember, people select their specialty, so whether those careers make you happy vs content people tending to choose those careers is a coin toss
no, OB/Gyns have hard lives, and huge liability
Fireworks!
I agree KJE- OB's are stressed
interesting bias there though... OB bring joy so lives must be good, geriatricians deal with death... etc
* She comes from nowhere with the sky in lights... Hello and congrats Car
I can agree that Ob's work long hours, but for the most part, their patients adore them
yayayayay car!!!!
Congratulations car!
it said they spend more time with elderly patients, so more satisfying, I guess
whoo hoo car
OBs are sued more than any other doctor
My mom is at a retirement home and I don't find that a very uplifting place
Anyone need a clue or two before I go?
not listed yet CAR_ thanks though
I can understand the liability of Ob's, but I would think that would be offset by the happiness of parenthood
it is hard to find the right placement for our parents
OBs are sued more, have higher divorce rates (only surpassed by psych), and do not form long term relationships with most of their patients...
how about the second I word car -- I have the metal one
Mom's in a nice place, but so many of the residents have a very angsty expression of their faces and a lot are sitting in wheelchairs with their heads down. Mom likes to go to arts and crafts, but she's usually the only one there
re 6?
it is fascinating to see the typical bias here though... old people make people uncomfortable, babies do not... thus we would rather avoid places like retirement homes
As a counsellor, I can say that bringing peace and comfort to those who are in their last stages of life or their loved ones is satisfying. Death is a natural part of life and helping people through it to make it easier is very satisfying. It doesn't mean that the environment is pleasant for those who visit unfortunately.
Does the problem not lie with the parents who find it hard to accept that not every baby nor every birth is going to be perfect all the time? Expectations are sky high on the part of parents.
NM on the re 6
Just add a vowel to the end of it JMC
ty car

thanks car - that was my last r
i spent hours and hours in nursing homes and other such places with my mother and that assured that my mother got decent treatment
that is so true JMC- Families need to be involved
Mom is treated decently, but so many of her friends are so cranky and critical
It makes a difference
even with me there one nursing home was terrible and so we removed her from there
We moved my grandmother 3 times before we found one we were all comfortable with
i think oatier should be a word... describes my breakfast cereal
OK all! Have a wonderful day!
the thing i noticed doing elder law for 20 years is that people seem to distill into their basic personality -- so an optimist is happy and a pessimist is cranky and angry
you too, car - bye
makes sense to me
bye car!
Bye CAR- have a good day
Time for Spangle's afternoon walk, time for me to get bundled up, it has turned so much colder over the past few days but at least it has stopped raining. Bye for now!
i like some of my cranky old people - you just gotta laugh... they aren't so bad, you have to know how to handle them
Bye Haz- Enjoy
ra4 a staffperson showed up at work and I thought i would have the office to myself
some of the really ornery ones, I swear that ornerinous is all that keeps them alive
bye haz have a nice walk
bye hazmat
i think that is what kept my mother alive
That was my Grandmother KJE- VERY Ornery
Lived into her 90's
most of them know they are ornery, so you use it
Hi Everybody!
Hi NEf
I was reading the conversation and thought I'd add my 2 centds
I've been watching the Sopranos and the scenes of Tony's mom at the Assisted living place sound so true
IHi DR
you can add 10 cents if you want ;)
hi Dr and Nef
BOO! Welcome
After working in health care as an RN for 42+ years (and as an aide in nursing homes and hospitals for 4 years before that!); I think my most favorite patients have always been the elderly.
I think most of them appreciate your caring for them. younger patients... dont always
Some elderly are ornery with bad personalities (same as the other ages of life); but most may have bad spelss of orneriness that they can be brought out of by just a bit of attention.
I agree, DR.
many people don't realize that "orneriness" is also a symptom/result/side effect of living in chronic pain
they have earned their orneriness... much harder to take that attitude from a smart alec 25 year old who has lots of advantages and opportunities and still complains
wow, i think my brain must be hung over from the cranberry relish, cuz this is hard
I am going to the list with 44 left : (
Where I currently work (I run a prenatal program for low income women and women in crisis pregnanxcies); the women are so grateful for everything we do that it is a happy environment
yes... in general, I think working with underpriveleged or sicker people is easier... less entitlement a nd less focusing on things that don't matter when you have real problems
oh shoot, some of these babblets I should have gotten, have seen them before
NBT, NBS, and halfway done. can i go home now?
yep. JBV.
first si6? what am I not seeing?
si5 is a loud noise
kje, I think the entitlement mindset makes a BIG difference in how much satisfaction we get out of working with different populations of patients.

cute.. is he helping you, Brookie
yep nef, and in bedside nursing you have to answer that 100x/day for some of those people, I get to tell them once or twice and still want to pop 'em
He goes back and forth. He does help me find some words (especially the ones that neither of us knew existed but at least he's willing to try).
He loves reading and learning what he can about language.

Yeah, and he knows it too! :-)

that is great tor - hope you have lots of good leftovers too--- the best part ; )
Oh yeah. The turkey was especially good.
ru - this time I used dried cranberries from whole foods in it, that was better than the pomegranates I think - slightly sweet touch and toothsome

Good for you! Saves pennies too :)
thanks got it
I am a penny pincher from a way back! lol

Funny story about yesterday: I decided to contribute a fruit salad I had never tried before. The recipe called for the ingredients to be "coarsely chopped" in a food processor. Not having one, I figured it would not matter if I used my blender ......... oh yes, it matters. The 'salad' quickly became chutney! lol!!
sounds like a smoothie to me
pretty much, ruru. I fessed up at the dinner table and everyone had a good laugh.
sometimes short-cuts lead to different things in the kitchen..lol
how can you survive without a processor anyway
Well, since I'm confessing here... the truth is, I have only learned to cook in the past few years.
oh.. well that explains that!
I have been cooking since I was a little kid.
I used to be a basic utility cook --- open and heat, you know. Now I play with food and experiment with spices. I even baked pumpkin bread from scratch!
cooking is so relaxing and good for you
very cool -- i love to cook myself
I love cooking ...
and cooking saves money!!
big time!
I'm discovering that. My beloved husband taught me quite a bit. In fact, he is playing in the kitchen right now. That's the other thing, jmc - scratch cooking saves TONS of money.
what temperature do you cook yourself at jm?
LOL!
I always make things from scratch.
making two pies today -- do you guys know about supercook.com? my fav cooking go to
IT does save money

jmc, my mom had one in her cookbook, which I inherited. I will look and send you the one she used through Facebook's email... you are on that one, aren't you?
that is how I cook too JM.. what's in the fridge and what can I make out of them
That is, my facebook page for the book.
that would be wonderful
sometimes it works and I regret i wont be able to duplicate it and sometimes it turns out horrid!
I am on FB do i need to sign up for your page ch?
hello 84 to go

hey hmc...how are you
i mean jmc...we are better today
glad you are better MP lol
ch we are friends on fb
aren't these the two happiest dogs you've ever seen?
Okay, found 3 of her recipes for pickles; not sure what constitutes 'bread and butter.' They are titled as follows: "Zucchini Bread & Butter Pickles", "Dollar Sweet Pickles" (both involve slicing) and "15 Minute Sweet Pickles" (using small pickles.) Do you want all of them, one of them, none of them?
probably the first two ch
i'd like to be your friend too, ch! if i get around to it!
Just realized -- I can post the recipes on my profile here. I'll do that, jmc - should be up in a few minutes. ... of course, harp!!
bread and butter pickles are sweet pickles with mustard seed and no dill
the dogs look sleepy to me but what do i know?
could be but I thought they were cracking up laughing...my dad always look for the humor in everything...
ty harp for your icon clue
did your dad take the photo?
oops my add kicked in...i meant my dad "said always..."
well that is good advice MP
no but he would have loved it too
Recipes posted in my profile. Wow, I had no idea my mom went to that much trouble! The first recipe takes 9 or 10 DAYS. Gosh. But I remember how good those pickles were.
he was such a joker...his last words on earth were filled with humor...I think it was a special gift to my mom and I who were there...very very special like him.
en6?
that is nice MP. my husband was like that too
the musician does an en**** at the curtain sometimes

Happy to offer them up, jmc -- my momma passed away in 1980, so it's nice to know her recipes will get some use again.
some people jmc give you so much in life that even tho they must leave what they give can last your lifetime if you let it...not that you don't miss them terribly but it is more than what alot of people ever have...very lucky we are...
MP, that is so true! Thank you from my heart for sharing that wisdom.

hi Everyone
hey hego. :-)
hi Hego
Been in and out today, can't seem to make a lot of headway.
just like me - probably turkey hangover. ;-)
Hey everybody, and a belated happy Thanksgiving to all my American pals. Hope you all had a great day :)
hey soodle! thanks
hi Soodle
Hiya Lynn - no turkey for you yesterday?
Hi Soodle
Hows the grid today?
Not for us. Do you celebrate in Ireland!?
good grid, soodle
keeps you interested
Nope - Thanksgiving just passes us by here in watery Ireland!! Still - Christmas is less than 4 weeks off now..........
don't remind me...
Xmas is our big thing here too
gift wise, Christmas is the deal. Meal wise - TG has no equal here, ;-)
not that i don't pull out all the stops at christmas/new year's either, it's just that there is no gift exchange at TG - not yet anyway. I am VERY thankful for that. :-)
We sort of combine the 2 here for Christmas. Mega-meals and loads of gifts. Murder on the waistline and pocket!!
happiness really IS a warm puppy ... like the one I have in my lap :)
when they started decorating bare trees with easter eggs, you knew life was going to get bad.
Reading what you do for meals for TG is very similar to Xmas here...the family and meal and general goodwill is the thing here, almost more than the gifts (except of you have kids of course)
we do too soodle. I just meant for meal only, most folks load it up on TG here. Fancier stuff for christmas say, but TONS for TG
americans don't understand no gifts except for TG - very sad.
very true wildcat!
I repeat - Murder on the waistline and pocket. (mutters something remarkably like Bah Humbug....)
:)
lol - i know soodle
clue for co 6/21 please? ( i gave in and listed with 20 left)
so lazy. ;-)
Wildcat! Its nice to see somebody enjoying the simpler side of life. Give that puppy a hug from Ireland!
which one Wild
I will
me lynxx - last one
Can someone clue the si 6,18 pls?
sorry - looked at the wrong W
co6.21 (my last anyway) co & strawb*****s
sorry - looked at the wrong W
Theres 2 x CO 6/21. One is somebody who cons, and the other is a shortened version of the word Coronation. As in Coronation Street ( a long-running soap-opera) is affectionally known as Co double cons and two vowels
si6.18 - Yes Si****
ty lynx and soodle
I'm blank on that Lynxx. Not unusual.
another co6.21 - a garment, with added vowel, then plural
ahhh - si 6/18 - no si**** bob. ;-0
american version
Light bulb ty both of you!
yw
ty lynx - your other clue took care of my missing c. :-)
puppy snores
better than puppy farts! lol ( couldn't resist)
aaww
I luv puppies, so know that i am kidding
lol she does that too
i know from puppies wild - i have had doggies all my life, and I am no spring chicken. ;-)
puppies? chickens? *looks around worriedly for ark building* is it raining that much?
hey stid - better get aboard!
Clearly mixing Babble with Farmville
lol
hi Stid. Feeling better?
Babbleville, perhaps
no puppies in farmville - not yet anyway
Hi Stid
SOODLES!!! *waves*
Hey Stid!!
a little, thanks Lynxxx. have had enough energy to spend an hour on this paper, though not making as much progress as I would like. Oh well. It's worth it, I am sure.
do you guys have black friday soodle?
hey hego! is that icon new for you?
and lynxx?
Wolvie - feel free to add me as a neighbour on Farmville - medickinson@eircom.net. (I can't expand until I get more neighbours, so I am busy canvassing....)
Hello all. i am staying safe at home on this wild Black Friday
it is one scary aspect of over indulgence in america
how are things down under, lynxxx? did I really see a news report about camels invading an Australian town?
What do you mean by Black Friday?
sure soodle. will do
hello scrabs -- good for you. I sent Tom out to brave the roads, taking younger stidkid to dermatologist about recalcitrant warts.
Our only Black Friday was a devastating bush fire back in the 30's....but we do have Boxing Day Sales at the shops!
No, Stid it's my original, but I like it music freak that I am.
the day after our thanksgiving day soodle, massive sales in the stores
it's a good one, hego!
it is th HUGE sales day after TG day. Folks line up at midnight to get into stores at 4 and 5 am. People have actually died. either crushed or exposure. Darwinism awards abound
Intense day of shopping, with sales & bargains, on the day after Thanksgiving Day, with people camping out overnight at store doors, people fighting for deals, and stores' finances go into the "black."
or darwin awards i should say. lol
yeesh I'm falling asleep with puppy
a good time wild. :-)
What is your puppy's name, Wildcat?
I refuse to shop between now and the end of the year unless I must...
Things are good Stid, we are having a bit of Spring rain here so everything is looking beautifully green> Missed the camel news
i stay home on this day - always
yup :)
rain is good! we are having a break in rain at the moment, but I never mind it this time year.
Sounds great! No, no such thing here - sadly. Stores madly vieing for the Christmas market at the moment, even though the country is in the depths of a depression!
camel? camel? what camel??
Snowing here since I got up this morning but not sticking on the unfrozen ground
Lucy ...she's my son's but he's over for the weekend, so puppy is here too
Is there a camel?
hi scrabs! didn't see you sneak in
our stores typically "run in the red" (at a loss) until the Christmas panic sets in, hence the name "black friday" -- the day that stores with survival potential should be making a profit for the year.
lynxx mentioned camel news???
I like the idea of "borrowed" puppies... like "borrowed" kids. send 'em home when you're done! LOL
Isn't it funny, Wildcat? Probably doesn't feel too long ago since your son was snuggled up on your lap!
OOOhhhhhh.
hold on, I'll find a source for the camel news.
too true soodle
I still don't get it hego, lol
absolutely stid ... I don't want any babies of my own right now!
Nah, me neither.
amen wild
http://tinyurl.com/ybemjn2 warning, the news is NOT good for the camels.
Black Friday here has another meaning. Up until very recently, the Catholic church (don't get me started on the catholic church...) banned the eating of meat on Friday, so it was always known as Black Friday!
uh oh - do i want to look?
no
Don't ask!
probably not wolvie... it's sad- the drought has affected all too many critters negatively
soodle, the meat ban thing used to be here too - but it was fish friday for my friends, never heard black friday lol
I lost one of my own this week, so holding puppy is a little therapeutic
oh stid - and here i was thinking it was some joke i had missed. Sorry. Wolvie hangs head.
oh wildcat... ((((((hugs))))))
oh no wild! i am sorry to hear that
ty
The you know what has hit the fan here about the Catholic Church. a report has just issued a report on the child abuse scandal that has really rocked the country to its core. It is horrendous.
we had that experience in the USA a few years ago. Awful. But i suspect it is even worse for Ireland
it's okay wolvie, would be nice if there were a joke. What is peculiar to me is that I NEVER hear of plagues in North AMerica or Europe the way I do for Australia -- frogs, mice, and now camels. I wonder if it's just that the ecosystems in Australia are so much more fragile.
maybe because it's a small, self-contained ecosystem?
I have been following the news, Soodle, including today's BBC news that the Vatican refused to cooperate with the investigation because the non-governmental agency doing the investigation wasn't authorized to use the channels for communication that the Vatican wanted.
The camels are another introduced 'pest' species here, originally came with Afghanis and used for transport up North. Were set free many years ago when no longer used. Unfortunately our climate ideal and they bred like crazy hence this town being overrun by some 6000! (and the culling)
we have a very un-newsworthy harlequin ladybird plague at the moment
Hello Ata!
what worried me most, about these scandals, is that it paints a "group" of people negatively, not the individuals in the organization... there are (I believe) many more kind, gentle, appropriate people in churches than there are monsters. But all we seem to hear about are the monsters.
hello atalante! what is a harlequin ladybird? is that what we call a ladybug?
yep!
I am not joking when I say I am thoroughly ashamed to be Irish today. To see the horrors that kids endured, and the level of cover-up by both the clergy and the law-enforcement agencies is disgusting
a particular sort of
same for everything isn't it stid? so little good news is communicated
Soodle -- remember it's not IRISH people who do this, it's people. It's not CATHOLIC people who do this, it's people. MOST people are not going to do that sort of thing, ever.
I hear you soodle. During the American broo ha ha - a few higher up (cardinal law of Boston and others) got sent to italy to finish their days. Should have gone to jail IMO for participating in the cover up
very true stid
absolutely
At least the baddies have been named and shamed, and hopefully the wrong-doers will be taken to court. Little good that will do to the kids whose lives have been destroyed. its the thought that these perverts were standing up on pulpits, preaching to us, that really goes against the grain.
thanks atalante! we get ladybug "blooms" sometimes in the winter indoors around here. People just vacuum them up and put them outside.
Our tennis club has many ladybugs inside our bubble.
Our family hasn't had that happen, I think because we don't have an attic for them to "nest" in.
soodle - did you guys hear about the huge american scandal of the same type a couple of years ago?
down to 30. I think I will list now.
i listed at 20 and have been chatting ever since, lol
missing one C from the top ... I have 12 co and 6 cr
I did, Wolvie, but like most people here, I thought...'Never in Ireland'. Huh!!!
yes, with the chatting I am not making progress. Will get to 25 and then go work on the paper a bit more.
I need 6 from that C
an cor
ooops.
*runs to PB*
I have all the C's Stid - can I help?
people are people, regardless of race, religion or creed. so it is everywhere
We've just had another 'Apology' day here too. For the neglect and emotional and physical abuse of children in orphanages pre '60s including those children cleared out of English institutions after the war and sent to Australia (really as child labour in a lot of instances). Thank goodness times have changed
i think you are missing cz 4 wild
You are right, Wolvie. But Ireland thought itself the last bastion of decency. I repeat ...'Huh'!!
duh now I see it ty
yw
yes lynxxx -- I saw that and was shocked. What a sad thing to do to children!
i hear you soodle
I was missing that one too! thanks wolvie!
blast. 25 came faster than I thought. oh well... back in 20 minutes... *poof*
bye stid
Sorry to be harping on, but, up until the 1980's, contraception was banned here!! By the fecking Catholic Church!! And these B*stards were abusing kids???
OK. I have had my rant. Back to babble :)
you must know how the boys club works soodle - universal - do as i say, etc. :-)
ranting is good. keeps you sane
It has happened over here too Soodle - sadly you are not alone
fireworks
Yay wildcat
Congrats Wild!
WTG wild!
Wow! Well Done Wild!! AND, with a puppy on your lap? Way to go!!
and on a tangent, it's so horrid for "real" Catholic priests too. Tolkien's eldest son had his life and career screwed because of abuse charges that he was completely cleared of
The puppy helped. They're very smart.
i know ata - in something like this, everyone suffers
Congrats Wildcat!
I know Ata, but right now, its hard to see the wood for the trees, or more correctly, to see the trees for the wood!!
oh I know .... just randomly saying
Anyway, how are you feeling Ata? Any improvement?
actually FINALLY yes!
WOOT! good news ata
:)
Hooray!!! really Ata - are you going to be allowed out now?
Way-hay!!! Earlier this week, you thought you would NEVER feel better! I am very happy for you, Ata
The puppy just helps period. My other dogs have been very sad.
think so! and I get a flu jab tomorrow *facepalm*
I really had forgotten though how weak you can get through illness. I can hardly walk Hobbit for 40 minutes now and I'm used to taking her on 8 mile hikes!
gonna run .. thx for the help and the company ... maybe cya tomorrow
you'll get back to it ata. :-)
Horses and stable doors spring to mind, Ata!!!!
seeya Wild
bye wild
Bye Wild, you mind that puppy!!
I know ... it's just sooo frustrating
Bye Wildcat
Just got the last z, thank heaven. Now to got over what I'm missing.
7 left here
go over
63 to go. My eyes/brain do not like this grid..yet.
hi Scrabs
I like this grid, except for the fact cooee isn't there
I don't like it Scrabs. I have vowelaphobia!
I tried that too, Ata
Me too, Hego
Must be a health care person thing.
babble highlights my ability for overlooking the obvious. much to my regret.;-)
Oh, yes. Mine too.
Fireworks!
Congrats Wolvie
yay wolvie!
first grid i have finished in awhile. :-)
Yay for Wolvie!
any clues before i head out? doggie need a walkies
go walkies :)
Can I have the an5,12 pls?

Then go walkies.

Oh, thanks, I thought I tried that.
*poof*
Yay Wolvie
Bye Wolvie!!
ca5,12 pls
CA 4/5 plural
Hmmmm. tx Soodle.
Aha! Tx, I was missing that ca4.
Must run - bye everyone
Bye lynxxx
Bye Lynn.
bye lynxxx.
Hego, isn't it great when you look for a clue for one word, and you inadvertantly get a clue for another!!
well, I didn't actually write much, but I thought about the paper and wrote to my classmates to ask for advice. I think I will work on it more tonight and just finish the grid and then lie down for a bit.
yup
hi stiddy :) I should writing papers too. Im not. LOL
Stid! You have excelled yourself! Sit down, and enjoy Babble for a while, with a clear conscience!!
good for you, ATalante! Paper Procrastinators Unite! (at some time in the future when it's convenient, of course)
of course :D
is the last CO 6 fishy?
not got the list, sorry
I just wish that I were allowed to be "cheeky" and clever in academic papers. that would make it more fun to write!
you can be, a little bit. for the right journals
Stid it builds on the 5 before it.
unfortunately, it's not for a journal, for a grade *yuck mama face* LOL
thanks hego
yw
I am still trying to pass halfway. My eyes are getting mired in the vowels.
maybe take a break scrabbler? I think you could be diagnosed with presbyvowelia *wicked younger mama grin*
then if it's appropriate, you can usually be a bit clever
Stid I may have given you the wrong one as usual. I don't have the last one.
Nice term stid.
Scrab, what's the last co6?
*grin* ever since the last eye doctor wrote "presbyopia" on my chart I have had a bit of a chip on my shoulder. The glasses that were prescribed then, give me just the worst eyestrain headaches.
ah, that explains it hego, thanks!
I have a co 6 = co + strawbe****s
thanks scrabbler! that was the one!
down to 7 now
My eye doc does not advise reading glasses for nearsighted folks like me until age 55. I can read fine without glasses.
I am farsighted... but my eyes don't transition well any more between close and mid or mid and far (and no way to go close to far quickly)
tx Scrabs, I knew I could count on you.
That word happened to be one of the 51 that I do have
or, I should say I was farsighted, now closer to 20/20 (which is frustrating just by itself)
go scrabbler go!
I would be able to read fine, only my arms seem to have got shorter. If only my arms were a bit longer, I would be able to read fine. Strange, that!!
down to one, but it seems to be something I ought to be able to monkey or reason out.
So the problem is your arms and not your eyes, Soodle? LOL
*grinning at soodle* sometimes in lectures I take the handouts and put them on the floor next to me so I can read them AND still see the board.
Tom and the kid just got home. brb
Absolutely Scrabbler! Only OLD people need reading glasses, and as I am NOT an OLD person, its clearly the fault of my arms! simple!
And they say Denial is a river in Egypt????
Fascinating hypothesis, Soodle.
Thats my hypothesis, and I am sticking to it!!!! (Chin being stuck out in defiant manner)
hello babblers
hi TS. How have you been?
meh- varied
you/
?
okay, back. dermatologist gave a prescription for "aldara" and froze off all the warts she could find (the entire heel of one foot...) *sigh* hopefully this will work.
hey STUD! *wicked mama grin*
:)
it's been a while...
yep, where have you been?
licking wounds from a breakup
sigh
Aldara is VERY expensive. I hope you have good health insurance coverage.
oh no! *hot choclit, cookies, movies and books*
Oh Stud - how tragic!
Aw, TS.
we do -- at the moment, in January prices for everything nearly double for us. *sigh*
lol, yes soodle - tis how i got my name
*groan* SOODLE!
yeah, it's been obnoxious
I passed halfway, finally!
Sorry!
go scrabs go!
i think it's gonna take a while to get over this one i think...but ya know...we live
yes stud, that's the attitude
Tragic, has it passed the point of no return?
no worries soodle - it was hard to pass up ;)
yeah, i mean... maybe LONG in the future
an4/4 am monkeyed out....
but right now - i'm not even sure i like her
hello MPittore!
you shall see this fish an** *VERY fishy shakespearean word*
Ha!! A sense oh humour! Tragic, I get the feeling you will survive this....
ya know the break up point where you're kinda mourning what you thought you had...not what you had? i'm there...
hey stid....have your dr write for the biggest cont. of aldara and I think they will give you more than one mth supply...maybe???
Hi MP
hi scrab 34 left...starting to groan a little...
so, ya know, if anyone thinks of any available and worthy women - particularly with accents because i'd like an accent in my life - let me know. and until then, catch me up on you all!
good thought, MPittore -- Tom took the kid to the appt because I don't want to expose people to this putative flu of mine. I suspect it was a substantial amount, though. He goes back in 6 weeks for followup
54 to go and finding 60 has been a struggle
Trag - Is the stud short for Student, or is it no short for anything? I ask, purely from interest....
I bought a jar of accent at the grocery store...makes everything taste better...LOL
nope...stud
as in muffin???
stud, I am SO glad I am not in your shoes. BUT here's the little I remember from my far-distant past: as much as a breakup hurts at the time, you can use the space that is created to re-evaluate both what you want in another person and what you want from yourself. I found that, after my last breakup I focused on making myself better and had soon found my Tom (that was nearly 20 years ago); but I also was in a personal space where I would have been fine without finding anyone.
Cos if its accents your after, begob and begorrah, and the top of the mornin' to you, and all that jazz....
stud for "hawt" and "awesomely cool" and "hunky" and.... *rolls eyes with exasperation* and
gah. dumb old spanish mountain word. *facepalm* *headbang* *fish face*
and firewords
I'm doing an assignment with a really sweet girl from Portrush, and it's so funny seeing her write with an Irish accent
WRITE with an Irish accent? for real?
I read a book once. It was called 'Its called a Break-Up, because its Broken'. I only read the cover! Far too depressing!!
really! it's *adorable*!
you only read one book soodle? gee you babble well, considering! *innocent mama look*
not begorrahs and all, but you can certainly tell she's Irish
Tom thinks you'd probably recognize a book if you saw one again...
Osmisis works wonders!!!!
i wish i'd asked how hard this grid was before i started it
Congrats Stid
this grid is lovely!
:-D I KNEW you'd get the joke!!!!
Its do-able, Tragic!
oh. then i'm out of practice
but stud! *stern mama look* it's the attempt, not the finish, that is important!
sigh. aaaaaalriiiiight
yes, stud, you can start with si 6/18: a spanish word for jagged mountain range.
that was my last, fishy, word
okay, I think I shall pretend to need assistance finding food...
lol stid, reading back.it,s actually quite easy to write with an accent.just read the harry potter series and you will see
TY, Stid, for that clue
((((hugs everyone)))) I LOVE this babble community. Thanks for being here for me when I am desperate for understanding or diversion from studies.
Ah! Cross! How the heck are you?
Hi Crossy! What have you been doing since we were here this morning?
CROSS!! we had some bacon in a potato salad the other day and I thought of you!
(((((((((((((mama))))))))))))) and ditto
Good luck with studying, Stid
YAA FOR BACON SALAD!
mmm bacon
laundry scrabbs..endless laundry;(
that's true, cross, and now all across North America young schoolchildren say things like "bloody heck" and OWLS and NEWTS....
friend put bacon in under the skin of their turkey yesterday, with apple and orange. apparently was wonderful
Bacon flavoured turkey yesterday, Crossy?
our turkey day is the second monday in october soodles;)

At 64/50 and the Sabres hockey team having just beat Philly, I am going to shower as I got my hair cut a few hours ago.
bye Scrabs tx again
I always get my hair thinned and if I don't shower it falls out everywhere.
You're shedding! lol
Good luck, Hego. I know you will finish soon. Yep, I shed, but I have such thick hair that it feels wonderful to have it cut and thinned.

YVW. Hego
hello all :)
Hi jilli
I just thought of a fun clue for er5/12 if anyone needs it -- or even if no one needs it :)
go ahead
er5/12 - Heather with another girl's name
Oh,okay
Clue for the Re4/4 amd re6/33 please
I'm stuck on the or's for some reason. Think I'm getting tired, but can't quit now.
re4 -- re + I am, you are, he **
re4 re third vowel and cons
Oh well, that er clue fell flat. :(
But great re clue!
Not at all, Jilli. Thank you
hi jilli (head buried in grid for the last 10 minutes, up for another look at chog now)
oh goody, soodle :)
don't get the er clue
thanks for the er clue, jilli. I'm just not understanding why it's another namefor Heather.
zTink, it's pretty cryptic. Maybe more of a reminder than a clue
because it is, nef!
hi all...
er5 = Er*** Cane from All My Children?
er5 is a type of heather, zTink. not very cryptic :)
okay, jilli. I didn't know that
oh, ok maybe it's very cryptic! oops
got it. thanks
Can I give a random cryptic clue as well? For the second co6/21 that leads to a seven - almost all of 007 Sean.
last ar5? fish?
LOL! we don't grow heather in *this* partof the country I guess
any of numerous low-growing evergreen shrubs or small trees belonging to the genus Er5, of the heath family, including several species of heather.
good one, haz
Thank you! Are you still working on the grid?
Good one, Haz.
snap, ata
yes, cos I've been ignoring it!
Hello, jillibus.
Hi Haz!
hi Pini, Ata, and Haz
;)
Good afternoon/evening everyone!
Still need help with or words.
Hello Hax
I'm glad FM liked her flowers :)
Hello, Soodle. I was reading about Ata's girls who write in Irish accents - faith and begorrah, I could hardly credit it.
Hego! Or words. Or + abbrev for Royal Acedemy
I know, all's good.
Or + staple diet of the orient
it was so sweet, I didn't know you could write Irish accents
tx soodle. Do you have the 6?

What exactly did she write? I'm intrigued.

i have had no turkey either i am happy to say
Help with the ra6/21 please...
And one of the ra5, 20s
ra6/21 - one who discriminates against people because of ethnic origins
many of the people who make negative comments about Obama are ra5,21
er4 = short for mistakes
tx for the er Pini
thx, Haz
Lovely clue, Jmc, thank you!
ra5/20=you shave with this
You're welcome, jillibus.

It's a stringed instrument, Pini.

thx haz! :)
and hego...
No problem, Pini.

ta5/12 - ta plus ***k and roll.
thx again, haz ;)
You're welcome.
ty haz
No problem, jmc.
Haz, for my last word, I need one of the ra 5,20s. I think it's the very first one. Pls.
are you watching BBC2 by any chance, Haz?
Add a second helping of the last vowel, hego.
dbl end vowel of ra4/9
Switching over to it, Ata.
Tks pini!
ty pini!
;)
Fireworks!! Finally tx to all you nice people!
there are 6 words that start with the same first 3 letters
it's an interesting programme - about the history of a family, 8 brothers, 3 fathers and their lives. It's particularly interesting cos it's all around Cheltenham, where I grew up, and one of the care homes they showed turned into the one of the schools I went to
Well done, hego!
oh well done Hego!!
FIREWORDS! :)
whoo hoo hego
whoo hoo pini!
Congratulations, Pini!
it shouldn't be remotely interesting, but any family's history is so fascinating
Yay Pini!!
wtg hego!!!
And PIni..Wooot woooot
WTG, hego! :-D
I take it you don't know the actual family, Ata?
WTG, Pini! YAY!!!
I can clue for a few...
no, but I certainly recognise some of the churches and names etc etc
are all the Zs zo?
nm just found a ze
one ze jmc
ze x 1; the rest are zo
I know, it's always interesting to see places that you know. Somehow they look different on TV.
the mum was a maid in Cheltenham, had 2 kids by an American airman stationed exactly where I went to school. She then had 2 kids by another man, then married her life-long partner and had 4 more children
Veeery fertile!
the first 2 kids were pretty much feral children, living in local toilets and begging food cos she had absolutely nothing and had to give them up. Her husband then tried to adopt all the previous children, but wasn't allowed
That'll have been fun sorting all that out! (Memories of trawling through microfilms!)
yep! it's a very interesting programme family history wise for anyone interested in that sort of thing. and it just shows how incredible any "normal" family is
G'nite folks, Have to go before Hubby kills me. Love ya!
night hego ;)
the name of it, ata?
Goodnight, hego.
I should have told you at the start, but didnt realise it would be so interesting!
just called "We Are Family"
Fiery words
I'll google it and see what I can find...brb
WTG, jilli!!!! YAY!!!!!
it's very - alien - to me, having grown up with no siblings, no cousins, a tiny tiny family
Well done, jillibus!
And I must depart -- lunch is overdue, and it's a rare sunny day so there are things I need to do outside.
No cousins?
Have a nice day, jillibus.
ata...in England?
oh - I'm lying. 1 cousin. LOL. that's all.
yep, over here :(
Wow, that IS a small family.
my mum had a brother, but he died young, and my father was an only child. both of my grandfathers were only children, my grandmothers both had 1 sister who had no children
Family name: Minchews of Cheltenham?
Thanks all -- back later to clue if needed but you've got some experts here now.
yep! you're a good googler :)
I kind of grew up alongside my cousins of similar age. We had older ones but most were around the same age. I have 13 cousins, my mother had 30 and could name them all!
I had 21 first cousins
last co5,12 please
I have one, he's a year younger than me. I have my mum, my gran, my aunt who doesn't talk to us, and my cousin. that's it bloodwise!
co5/12 - to rhyme with Miss Gaynor.
Or Miss Estefan, for that matter.
My father is the eldest of 15!! My mother is the eldest of 9. I have more thamn 100 first cousins. approx 90 of whom I have never met!
Trust Soodle to be one of a cast of thousands!
Did I mention I am Irish?
thanks!
We kind of worked it out. The flag maybe helped a bit but we could work out the accent as well.
Soodle, your family tree would require a lot of paper if previous generations were as fertile.
my great-aunt, who is no longer with us, didn't have any kids - she was married forever and ever - and we looked at her records and she was officially labelled as "frigid". omg. so awful
Probably not unusual amongst my peers! Scary, or what??
I have 56 first cousins on my mothers' side. Not too sure of my fathers' side; but have at least another 10 there (I think)
flag? huh? what? flag on the play? flag down the cops? flagon of ale? huh? huh? huh? what'd I miss?
Yeah Redshoes!!!!
sorry. been proofreading for the past five hours straight. I'm a bit loopy. (even more than usual)
Nef - check your heritage. You have Irish blood. For sure!!!
I'm an 1/8th Scot...is that ok?
my family come from Norfolk originally. Probably says a lot
Of COURSE I'm Irish! --On my mothers' side!! ;-)
It's fine, Pini, the Scots have given us some fine babble words.
i only have about 30 cousins since i am scottish
Sadly, I'm not enough Scot to know any of those words! :)
We had one yesterday - scunner.
Norfolk, VA, Ata? =D
haes, haet, haen lol
alas...I didn't finish yesterday's grid :|
i am almost purely scottish but famliy has been in U.S. for at least 6 generations
nooooooo :P Norfolk land of idiots LOL :)
Hi, all - I still need that lone E for nbt, though I have 70 words done!
help with the or6,21 please
My dau just moved to Norfolk...
I am Italian, Irish, German, Scottish and Swedish. A regular old American Mutt.
or6/21 - or plus the grain grown in the paddy field.
en6= bravo bravo en6!
en6= bravo bravo en6!
I'm close, red...I'm German, Italian, French, and Scot...
Its amazing how many people have Celtic heritage! Its all good. Be proud of your heritage.
...I'm 3rd gen American
(i gave you an en6) lol
jmc, was that second entry an en6 of the clue?
I'm - English. At least back to about 900AD. My mum actually cant find *anyone* in our family history who wasn't English
yes red it was lol
thanks! only 7 to go
I want to learn more about my family's Scottish heritage; I know the location, clan, tartan, etc., but would love to learn more...
i can't find anyone who wasn't scottish but you figure 6 generations in the U.S. and SOMEBODY has to have married a non-scot
When did they first emigrate, Pini?
My mom & aunt took a trip to Ireland to study our Irish heritage.
ty, jmc! :)
oddly enough my sisters married a burns and a hamilton so even at my general we have been consistent
Let me look, haz...brb
Irish heritage hunting is made more difficult because of the lack of government records etc.
Haz, I think you could earn a nice little sideline researching Babblers ancestry!
My grandma said, "you can marry whoever you'd like, just as long as he's an Irish Catholic." Thanks Grams.
hi all
I'm kind of a melting pot mix. Somewhere in our family we are Irish, English, and Norwegian, then who knows what else
Hello, TO!
TO! hello!
hi TO!
You know what, Nef - You probably got the best of all. A sprinkling of all that is good in all those nationalities!! Good for you£
But I'm much less of a Heinz 57 mix than my hubby. He's Scot, Irish, Swede, Chippewa, English, Polish, +++
Don't you feel sorry for our kids? ;-)
hi TO
As I said earlier in the chog - Now is not a good time to be Irish. The you know what has hit the fan with the revelations about abuse by Catholic clergy against children. Not a good time to be Irish
Hi TO.
soodle we have gone through that in the U.S. -- in fact there is a guy who stands outside the papal embassy every evening with a sign that currently says "The Pope hides pedophiles"
It's not a good time for THEM to be Irish. I'm just fine being Irish, thankyouverymuch. =D
he changes the sign from time to time but he has been out there most of the 30 years i have been up here
Soodle, it hit the fan here in the States several years ago. I've been a bit out of the loop in the past few months; is there any other great revelations about it now or what?
of course, I'm also all the way in America.
Aaargh! I hear you, Jmc, and I hear you Redshoes. Its still a difficult time here!!
okay it is 5 and i am hitting the highway (well actually the city streets) home
i am sure it is soodle given the percentage of catholivs there
Oh Redshoes, Its the child abuse thing - absolutely horrific
drive safe, jmc!
later, je
hope it doesn't bankrupt the church (or maybe that would be a good thing -- i will have to think about that)
*poof*
going now
impossible to banrupt them!
that abuse history is horrific, as is what the Brits did to all those children they shipped to OZ, and what happened to them once they got there too
bye TO
will return when crew/convo changes
Crikey. Bankrupt the ba**ards. Who has sympathy for the church, and their millions?
Haz...somewhere between 1866 and 1920
(I think it was Haz who asked?)
Well, at least it's being brought to light and fought as opposed to all of the hidden injustices people look away from.
bye TO =(
I am Catholic too. I read somewhere that everyone thinks the Catholic Church is so rich; but the Vatican makes less $$$ than the Catholic Church in the US. I'm not sure where I read that; but the point was that the Vatican has untold riches in art, etc. but very little cash flow
I agree Redshoes, but, this is only coming to light now. The atrocities happened in the 50's, 60's 70's 80's and even the 90's. Its just unthinkable. I am ashamed to be Irish
Up until the early 90
yep, the Vatican has $$$$$$$ but in art and Stuff
last word. ra6,21 please
Every population has its atrocities. You did not do those things. Do not let the acts of others diminish an entire heritage/country, etc. Be proud of you.
Sorry. Up until the early 90's, the Vatican opposed contaception. Yet a substantial part of their empire came from a contaception factory
zTink, someone who hates another due to the color of their skin.
their collections are probably literally priceless. How do you price something like the Michelangelo and Raphael frescos?
a person who hates others who are not the same ethnicity
(or heritage, etc. doesn't have to just be skin color)
or religion
not to mention real estate
;)
Sounds like Koda's up to something...best go check on him...
Its the hypocricy, and the fact that these perverts were preaching to me and countless others during the 70's and 80's that is truly killling me
looool be good Koda!
fireworks! thanks for the help
I woudl love to see how the priests justify their actions
yes, but don't forget they are not all bad. I'm sure you had good teachers, too, who were upright and honest.
ne4/4, ne5/10
so get a pic of the pope and burn it. you insult the wonderful priests who instructed my while growing up. as for babble - i think i will pass.
oops the second ne4/4
Soodle, how many of the actual perverts do you know?
If you allow me a small rant:- These perverts were standing up on my local Altar, preaching that contraception was wrong, all the while they were abusing children
he is not messy. he is very ne 4/4. and plural for 5/10
as I said earlier TO, this defiles the true priests too
good clue, redshoes
Nef - my local curate has been named in the report.
ty red...my face is red on those...*blush, blush*
well i had one fight on this subject. for a long time i have tolerated the lack of tolerance here.
fishy fishy for MPittore!
okay, Soodle. NOW I understand. I have had many good priests in my history.
the actions of a number of priests don't reflect on the wonderful good many others do
how about a subject change? TO, do you like the Owl City album?
agree Ata.
has the curate responded to the charges, Soodle?
TO, have you listened to the band Phoenix? I might have to get their album soon.
Sorry. But I am incensed. I would very much welcome a change of subject
DONE! Subject changed! I love your profile quotes, TO!
so. what did everyone have to eat yesterday? LOL
and to me the irish are the worst of the lot. we had to stgart our own ethinic churches to get away from their scrupulosity. soddle whatrever. be who you are.
I had read that the Jesuits managed to strike a deal where no names living or dead were to be mentioned in the report
red...still new here (about my 8th grid) what is fishy fishy?
TO, that's not nice dear
was it on gthe internet? cause if it was it has to be true. f*uck it
that means missing an obvious or easy word MPitt
ohhh and that I did...ty
we've all known wonderful priests. I went to a convent school and was taught by a number of them. But in Ireland at the moment? It's complete horror, but tha doesn't affect your experience
first no 4/4
love your pic!
ty...yours is pretty cute too
I am sorry to have hijacked the chog. but what I was referring to is (finally) in the open domain. and I am disgusted. Of course, everybody is entitled to their own opinion.
best friend's fat cat :)
*hugs soodle*
Thanks Ata!
*hugs TO too*
soodle your pic is darling...looks like one of my dolls in my collection!
ok. A question. What is everyone's favourite colour adn why?
pink
why?
I love pink too. And white, and silver.
Hey!! Thank You MP. His name is Dora! Long story about why a boy cat is called Dora, and is wearing a tutu, but....there you have it!
I love baby pink, not bright pinks. White is so pure. And Silver I love cos it's sparkly, but I dislike gold
hey
pink because it is cheerful, like santa's cheeks, like a kitty nose, like a new babies skin, like a good blend of hot and cold, like sooo many things
kitty noses! kitty noses are the BEST
I love the pale strawberry milkshake pink
my favorite color is teal; because I can't make up my ind between blue and green! :-)
makes sense! I love mint greens too and turquoise for the same reason
is the colour teal related to the duck teal? Never worked that one out
pink can be so middle of the road or so pale it's almost white or so dark it's almost black...flexibility is attractive to many...it's a life skill I believe
I am thinking Julie Andrews.... Raindrops and roses and kittens with mittens,
my favs are cobalt blue and silver...reminds me of water and air
pink always amazes me as an artist, cos it's one of very few colours that can't be made from the primary oclours
*colours
pini, I'm doing a pic based around cobalt at the moment :)
yes ata...that makes it special
it does. it's a strange colour. mint green is the same
I don't know, Ata. But aren't some species of teal feathers a sort of teal color?
I'm not sure of what other reasons there may be, but it truely is an incredibly beautiful color all on its won ;)
I *think* so. I wonder if there is a connection
yes I like mint green with pink...
interesting no-one has mentioned darker colours / reds
(and that comment of mine was totally messed up! Should I try to make some sort of sence in the near future?)
perhaps we could see a rainbow
lol I understood it! not sure what that says ....
pink can be red
red's my fav colour...and blackj...tho its not really a colour..
black is a colour artistically, just not light-wardly :P
and hi rolin!
black can light up pink tho and others too
i love the contrast of one stark color against another
black is a color to a black cow in a dark pasture on a moonless night
I found another song that was made famous by a cover artist today - did anyone mention Hound Dog with Elvis? Going back to old facebook posts!
the most beautiful pink I've ever seen is the color in the sky on the clouds at sunset
did u see the movie Hound Dog with Dakota Fanning?
me too nef
oh croon a tune...do you remember ol dog shep
oh yes. and at sunrise. sunrise is very special
ruru, what about a black angus cow on a black road on a moonless night? (Ne**ly hit one a year ago!)
ouch Nef!
I missed! :-) AND called the county sheriff to report it too
nef put it on a black grill and blacken it
didn't know cows figured out camoflage
good for you!
LOL! MP! I don't have a grill that big!
maybe it was a camo cow...
nef you know how to eat an elephant don't you
no. One bite at a time?
in small pieces?
yes one bite at a time....I used to tell my employees that when they said they couldn't do something...it works on kids too....and husbands...it's almost the perfect plan *grin*
I can eat my husband? You mean he's some use?
LOL! :-D
BRB
Note to self: skip the next invite to Ata's house for dinner
your last name isn't Lecter is it ata?
tis really
ooooooh..........
ok not going there...but when you ask if they can do something and they say they are too busy they can break the deed up into small bits they can do between the tv they are watching etc....mine can get a load of laundry folded during a typical football game! But he is a "merman" I admit!
merman?
back
what's a merman?
yes...kinda like pool boy or cabana boy...very handy...can do almost anything and looks good too...easy on my eyes! LOL
Nice!

Just saw an advert for The House of Myrtlewood - celebrating 80 years in business...
...myrtlewood is nice stuff ;)
nice Pini.....
clue for the en6 please ?
The Myrtlewood Tree is unique to two places in the world: the Holy Land and a small section of the Pacific NW.
down to 49...
myrtlewood is nice, but it would cost $97.50 for a set of alphabet blocks!
en6 = what a performer does after the performance is over and everyone claps for a long time!
thanks again Pini !
gads, nef...let me know, I could probably find it for less since I live out here...
E's done :)
(sorry, slow typing when I was in the wrong box again. I can't chat in the word box)
When cut, the myrtlewood yields some of the most varied colors and grain patterns to be found in a single species. Colors range from light straw to chocolate brown, mixed with lemon yello to deep ruddy red and streaks of nearly black. The vivid color range can even appear in a single sectin of wood.
lol... the amount of times I have typed chat in the word box, and words in the chat box !
Pini, I was just at the House of Myrtlewood site and each block there is listed at $3.75; I just figured that out from there
Oh my, Nef...
...you were here and didn't say, Hello?!?!?!
LOL, Pini. You are so LITERAL at times! (I was using your comment as a link)
oh...gads...I need to pay better attention!!!

Hi Aussieme, not playing today, just too many things to get sewn for Christmas. Maybe tomorrow. Just wanted to say Hello. Fix a turkey sandwich for me,would you? Thanks.
Hi rumple
**making turkey sandwich for Rumple**
hi rumple
Went to a co-worker's house yesterday...she had store-bought roasted chicken
Hello Sweet Rumple.... How goes it ? Are you still playing your beautiful Harp ?
but everything else was "authentic" (mashed potatos, yams w/mallows, stuffing, rolls, punkin pie, etc.)
Oh, dear Pini. But if the company was good, it could be okay
it was nice, Nef...
Yep, when I get a chance. The sandwich is awesome, by the way, Thank you so much.
('cept for the turkey)
you are entirely welcome Rumple...
did you know ahead of time she'd "cheat" on the bird?
I knew she was going to serve roasted chicken...but didn't know it would be store-bought...if I knew, I might have set a couple up in my rotisserie
(her kids don't do turkey)
okay. Well, if the company was good; ....
she could be forgiven ;-)
* smile *
her kids don't do turkey? Wow! How old are the kids and what's the matter with turkey?
17 & 19 - they don't like the "must sleep" feeling afterward...
(other than that I have no idea!)
okay. Old enough to know the difference then
yeah...darn it!
ok, no4/4 last one please ?
seafood?
no + sticky **ce
Guten Abend, excuse my budding in. I thought the "must sleep syndromE" was casued by an antibiotic in the bird. They have banned that many yers ago
shushi
thanks Pini :)
Tag inge :)
That's the reason, Inge...L'triptofan (or something like that) is what causes sleepiness...
Tag Aussie
inge, turkey has a natural chemical in it that causes drowsiness
yep, Pini said it
well, maybe the antibiotic they treated turkeys with, caused stomach upsets to consumers
I think some allergy problems too?
Decided to try anyway wince there are only 114.
9 left. All C's
Wife of my husband's best friend and colleague could never eat turkey, until the 1980's

Pini, there is something called Thermacare heat packs that would stay nice and toasty warm for her whole trip. I use them for my sore joints so I can work; they'd be very good for her (just don't let her sit on them or use them under synthetic undies, she could get a slight burn)

I'll bet, ruru...
and Koda needs dinner...brb
it was so good he's still burping
I had a fresh, never frozen 30 pound turkey...and some 25 people all at the table, thank goodness it was at my sisters, but of the dishes.
better the burping lbd.. better the burping
most definitely, ru
30lb? holy cow
i'm doing a turkey breast tomorrow, with all the trimmings, wanna make turkey soup
that's a beast
well, we shared, but still had half left...
my bro in law is a crazy foodie.
30#'s that's a big TOM!
Wow! 30 lb?
it looked like the Norman rockwell paintings...
(sounds like steroids to me)
even my 91 yr old Grandma came..
hiya Torg!
hi torg!
Bet grandma enjoyed all the family.
I wish my grandmother were still alive..
me, too ru. my grams and yours as well.
I think Grandma was a bit overwhelmed by the activity, especially the lesbian cousins of my Brother in law...
Heyas kids ..
the plot thickens ....
nothing like a couple of lesbians to shake up the dynamics at dinner...lol
They are great people, have a beautiful daughter.
no.. it is cool that they came.. and were there..
I think its time for families to accept the lifestyle and stop pretending it isn't there.
allo!
but at 91, it might have been a bit much for Grandma, the Pastors Widow, she has now been dressing in all black for well over a year!
hey torg
heya eno
yeah.. sometimes the grandparents are the ones who get it first though
what are you guys talking about?
that, ruru is very true.
hi enom, RENNIE!!
dawg!
it happened that way in my family.. I had so many gay cousins ...
gay couples coming to thanksgiving dinner as a couple enomis.. is what we are discussing
oh ok!
how about the 7's clues?
my friends up the street had their family over to a fairly wild discussion
I think in the family that lives up there, this couple is very well accepted. My Grandma had not been out there before, and so the entire experience of a Holiday with a Large Italian family, with the gay couple, and all of the children running about might have overwhelmed her. Shes very sweet.
all the 7's are plurals, ren
plurals of what 6's?
cr6
co 6
yup
ok thanks ru
:D
all the noise and the hubbub probably did overwhelm her. My dad says the same thing at christmas.
time to warm up the leftovers...bbl kiddies..have fun
my nephews were so much fun, but I am so glad to be back at the quiet house.
Bye Ru, enjoy the leftovers.
hb, ru
Mmmm .. leftovers ..
how long did it take a 30 # turkey to cook?
a month
2 hours longer than a 20# turkey?
sage advice lbd
i'm trying to imagine how one would lift the hot thing out of the oven....
it's been ages since i cooked a large bird, can't imagine the size of pan nor oven needed for 30#!
i think 10 # has been the biggest birdie i ever cooked and it was one given to me
i hope more than one person lifted that bird to the table!
Good evening to my fellow babblers! How is everyone?
By the way, congratulations to all the finishers! YAY!
i'm good min...just thinking about the 30# turkey red had for din din yesterday
Hi Min! welcome to the grid. how are you tonight?

Hi Min.
hi wht
Had a good day with family today. Had a good day yesterday too. Hope the Babblers from the USA have been enjoying their holiday.
*wanders in forlornly* hello
how nice wht
Oh stid. What's the problem?
whats up stid
two problems. 1) done with the grid earlier so nothing to distract me
2) just got back from friends' house -- feeding the critters while they are away and their old cat is pretty sick, to judge from the diarrhea she left all over.
Hi stidmama! How are you doing?Welcome to the grid
can't get hold of my friends, and the vet is already closed for the day. She had good energy, so I am not completely worried, but I don't know ANYTHING about cats!
Oh, yuck.
C's Completed! 1 left
I don't mind the yuck factor too much, that's what having kids does to a person! but the worry factor is high. I would have brought her home, but she HATES our dog.
Congratulations stidmama on finishing early! Hooray!
poor stiddie
thanks Min!
if the cat has good energy then like a kid it probably will -- er -- pass
is the cat uoset they left? do cats do that when they are worried?
that is a good question kimber!
Hello kimberblue! How are you? Welcome to the grid!
LOL jmc. if you make a joke, then I won't worry too much
brb
hi kimber
hi all
thanks-i am good, family is in chicago and i am home alone for once!

oops- see i never chat
si 6/18 pls?
si 6/18: spanish for jagged mountains
That's almost like the word that gave me FWs kimber
just monkeyed the or6/21 out of nowhere.. astounded me
si6/18 is si plus double consonants plus double vowels
si**** nevadas
or, the OTHER si 6/18 that Min just clued, "yes si**** bob!"
go doren go!
ty all
Stid, i bet the cat ate something that didn't sit well. could also be furballs. when you check it tomorrow, if it is still "spurting" you may want to call a vet to see if there's something you could be doing for it. Not being a cat person, i'm assuming a lot what i'd do for a dog

Hi everyone- back for my last 7 words

hey Bugs!
If you have any ca 4/5 now, you can take them with you to the Penalty Box Bugsaw. LOL!
She is probably all right and not worth a night vet charge but the best way to tell is to look at her eyes. If they look normal, she is good. If you can see an inner eyelid, phone the vet

bob keeshan was clarabell too, I think.
