Police in Carroll, Iowa, got a "hot" call -- two men were trying to break into an apartment. Responding officers saw a vehicle matching the getaway car's description leaving the scene and stopped it. They were pretty sure they had their men: witnesses said the burglars had blacked-out faces, and sure enough the occupants of the car did. But rather than use facepaint, Matthew Allan McNelly, 23, and Joey Lee Miller, 20, had used permanent markers to blacken their faces. Both were arrested on burglary charges, and McNelly was charged with driving while intoxicated. (Carroll Daily Times Herald)

HO7 is new to me
clue, dc?
pl of ho5.12 - sounds like empty inside
ah, thanks. I've never seen that spelled that way either
yvw
ho4.7 saxa - go ho5.16!
hello hello lovely people
morning, ata! you sound chipper today
I think I feel it, too!
which is a lovely change
great news!
what is the bird in your pic, been wanting to ask for ages
mountain bluebird, from colorado
he's beautiful
yes, he is. they were all over the ranch where we stayed on vacation last year and very fun to get to see close up for the first time
aww!
dc, can you clue that ho 5/16? can't find it
oh well. guess dc isn't watching. do you have it, ata?
noooo, I'll have a look for it!
sorry, back, ate some soup
he5.16 is plural. Like Georgetown University sports teams
ho5.16 rather
ho4 saxa is a standard GU cry, where ho4.7 is singular of the other
ah, ty. must look that up
thanks, dc. ho4 is also a shrubby climbing plant in the milkweed family. why is the Georgetown team called that?
no one knows - their mascot is a grey bulldog
are you up early or late, fuquay?
early, unfortunately
ah, insomniac?
or merely sleepless tonight?
early awakener. not usually this early, though
how about you? what are you doing eating soup at 4 AM?
i've been up, and was hungry. picked friends up at airport at Midnight, and agreed to take one a few miles East to pick up a package in a couple hours
i'll nap in a bit, and again before my afternoon engagement
ah. I'm hoping to go back to bed later too. Rainy day here, good for sleeping I hope.
it's supposed to snow here today. A bit early for that, but it's known at this time of year.
they say it may start as rain, but should be all snow by noon
just flurries here, I guess. I'm heading to DC tomorrow, so hope it won't be too bad
only 1-3 inches they're calling for, mostly in grassy areas, so should not be bad, and airports should be open as usual
and only rain just a tad bit S and E of here
that's the kind of snow I like -- just enough to be pretty
any LL words ?
fpm
don't know, dc. not listing yet
no ll words
ta, diz
yw
could anyone clue the 8 for me? or at least tell me the stats?

for me i would like to start about 8am finish for about 1pm :-)

Still a beautiful place to be though & the crime rate is very low..we do have problem areas like anywhere i suppose, but better than the mainland UK

Very yucky. Thank goodness for indoor climate control!
How about in VA?
yes, yucky here too (coastal Virginia)
ha 5/12 and ha 6/21 - clue please
Is it the area near Chicoteague?
just started gran... i have nothing
*thinking of a clue*
no Brookie, that is the eastern shore of virginia (a peninsula)
OK just seen them and finished
I am near Virginia Beach
congrats qran
Thanks, lil. I'm not so hot with my VA geography (which is a sad statement as my boyfriend lives in VA!)
where does he live, brookie?
Although he's very inland -- Lexington, VA
He's a professor at Washington and Lee U.
OK, that's way farther west from me
Yes. I'll be driving down there next weekend. 5 hour trip.
that's a long boring drive :( Wish you were coming to the beach isntead!
you should have your BF meet you sometime in Wash DC and we could organize a Babbler meet-up
That would be great. I've missed all the meet-up's so far, to my regret. I've been telling him how awesome Babble is!
we're talking about a Babble meetup in Baltimore in the spring, you should try to come to that one!
He's a wordsmith too, but not really into the puzzles (more into creating his own play-on-word puns).
Baltimore is very do-able!
great! If you check my profile or dcseain's, you can get details about the Baltimore meetup in the next couple of months, we're talking about meeting in April I think
It's great that you two are proactive in organizing these events!
I'm taking a break from cleaning my apartment (friend coming over tonight), and my 2-year-old is derailing all my cleaning efforts.
have a great day! nice chatting with u
You too, lil.
hello everybody
Hi Pinny!
yesterday was my first babble-free day since stumbling upon this site
Congratulations. I can't imagine the willpower it took you... seriously.
i was just super busy!
it was not out of choice
it's always a choice.
i've driven 14 hours in a day and babbled when i got to my destination.
Hi hurshy!
h'lo
i have also chosen not to babble, on occasion, in order to choose to do other things.
We're all clearly dedicated babblers.
ok.... i was just out of the house and couldn' t get to a computer
the advice columnist in "slate" always says, "life is choices".
i have felt that that is a good thing to acknowledge.
Pinny, you could have broken into someone else's house or place of business and used their computer. :-)
i was in the park
but i didn't mean it to be turning a light-hearted convo into a serious one :) ah, there's brookie turning it back
pinny went to the park with her sister Mary
the park?! other nannies take children to the park.
Clearly you could have borrowed/stolen someone's cell phone and connect to the Internet that way.
ok - had i wanted to break the law, i could have found my way onto babble yesterday. however, the point of my comment was that after a babble-free day, it's nice to be back
Glad to have you back :-)
why thank you!
pinny, you and Mary could just open Mary's umbrealla and fly anywhere you want... like to an internet cafe
mary is a selfish cow and never lets me use the umbrella
oh my
i guess that's why she's only practically perfect
i always wondered
I hear she cheated on the chimney sweep
don't believe the hype
evil lurks... bye for now
think of me and i appear;0

chrissie to the pb! LOL
oh dear, are there any cream cheese brownies in there
no doubt!
must be where the sm* is coming from
i saw a greeting card once that showed hundreds of donuts on the front; inside it said "this is a rare picture of hips in the larval stage"
hurry before I sw*** down and grab them!
pastor LOL!
since then I try not to walk near donuts!
and finished... enjoyed this grid
yay, chrissie!!!
off to do something less entertaining. Happy babbling all :)

Happy Saturday All!
Everything is good right now, apart from my boiler !! the engineer came to service it on tuesday, and I had to call them back out on thursday, because I had no hot water upstairs or down unless I reset the boiler, and it leaked too (this after a service), so they came yesterday morning, it is still leaking, so they are coming out today, sometime between 1 and 8pm.... Hi Zoom. thanks again for all your help last night. You're a doll!
I know Zooz..... what gets me most is... they wanted to charge me again for it !! I flat refused to let them, so they are fixing it for free !
Hope they aren't charging you everytime they show up!
yw Hego :-)
Good for you Aussie!!
I was rushing to finish. Had dinner reservations.
Why isn't 'ades' a word? I use it in crossword puzzles all the time.
bloody cheeky sods...you should be charging them for having to saty in on your time.
enable is very fussy merk
stay*
They didn't charge me for the service, because I pay a monthly fee for the annual service (this includes a flat fee for any repairs ma4/6)

He's improving. the vet said she thought he was more active than normal... but whatever.

Goldens 3 years

They are nutballs until they are three... it just comes with the breed
well, that makes me feel better...Koda just turned 2....
(but he's a beagle...so maybe all bets are off)
the girls come along sooner 2 & 1/2
He's show a lot of improvement this year. I think not moving every three months has helped him too!!!

hi all
hi, jm
its snowing
clue on the S bottom right, i have se4,5.. plzzz
hi, jmc & welki! - just got here - net down at home and was out of town yesterday - now on the PC at work. need...babble...fix! ;)
poor rbud
sorry team that's all i have too
hehehe ... you're talking to someone who lives in canada. "it's snowing" is par for the course ... that said .. snow in your neck of the woods is either very pretty (when you're safe at home) or scary (when you're on the road)
I made a point of getting up to run errands before the snow started
*sets up intravenous babble for rbud*
morning all.....just cruised the chat checking weather reports.
how about the E above it plz
so its pretty until i have to go shovel the sidewalk
hi jm
ey4 team
we had blizzard like conditions yesterday ... more snow and high winds expected today
ty so much welki, feeling a bit better...
it was 1 degree warmer on the Gulf Coast than Portland Maine! Just not right....
thanks jm
my poor friends in the south don't have any insulation -- its much harder on them
yw team
so happy i live in Florida where it nevers snows, but god does it rain
it has snowed in florida
well we got insulation....need it from the heat. Our heater/furnace is just not up to this tasking!
not where im at
and im pretty sure it has been years since it has
beautiful day here, sunny and now up to 32 deg F from 20 this AM *brrrr*
sy4/6 for the bottom right s
I have stayed in lots of places in Houston, Georgia, Louisiana, and Florida which had slats for doors
ty chrisk
first ca6?
yw
my guess would be domedary shir
got that one jmc
dromedary
then house in spanish
ca6 = induced state of paralysis/unconciousness (with the beginning of an eagle's nest thrown in for good measure)
oops house is only 5
(they're actually little fungus type things ... the word that it looks like is the "induced c*** word)
thx welki
isn't that coma?
c + two vowels + ending for induced co**
succinct and to the point .. thanks, merk :)
I guess I should say + ending for induced c***. The 7 is the pl.
... and Fireworks!
whoo hoo merk!
bottom right s: sy as in auld lang sy**
but still looking for the ca6
ty welsh
c + two vowels + ending for induced c***
that is the first ca6, the second is plural of dromedary
The other ca 6 is a plural of the ca 5, 14.
I gotta go ... spent enuf time here this morning. See you tomorrow, I hope.
whew finally got it ty ty!
bye merk
bye merk
My computer has been draggingly slow since yesterday. I did a "Go Back", but it didn't help. Best I work on that for awhile.
bummer merk
help with the E on the second row for nbt
Hello all.

hi Torgone
ohh, i'm off on a wrong e tangent --- oops
ph = abbreviated gym class
ph.. is like work out class in school
but ty welki that got me the last one from that e
Heyas kids ..
makes you wonder how i manage to dress myself in the morning, eh?
Oh yes! I see it now. Thanks so much.
the nice thing about the chog is you don't have to dress yourself
I am cold too, but we didin't get the predicted 10 inches on snow. Just a covering. So no snowshoeing today.
suppose to get 2-3 inches
grrrr still cant get that darn sy 4,6 another clue plz
auld lang sy**
someone remind me to pick up a nice gift for my monkey ... sure has earned it
lol diff clue plz, im a dum dum today lol
sy + **vermind, i figured it out myself
sy+ I want a **w camera for Christmas
Reminder to all Babblers: give your monkeys holiday gifts as they have helped us out so much
<-- wants a pony
omg thank you.. didnt think i was goin to get it
I am watching Curious George's Chirstmas for hints
*ordering a pony for Welki, from Ponies Unlimited*
Haha, JM
(make sure it is a scottish pony to stand up to snow)
TY, JM. I didn't think of that
i am going to have to go crank up the heat! brrrrr
brb
i had to crank up the heat also- put it up to a roaring 64
I keep mine set at 65 in order to keep gas bill manageable
i have the ya4,7 clue on the other plz
I second that request
i was keeping it at 60 but hubby was cold and you can only manage a 1 sweater under a robe so had to do the drastic
I use layers all winter
I was thinking of buying a Snuggie but I try to avoid trendy things
yo + **hoti, that babblet
yo + *ear Santa letter + Merry C*ristmas
snuggies aren't trendy ... they've been around forever. we have a standing joke in my unit that we're going to buy each other one for the holiday exchange :)
thanks got it
how about a robe on backwards for the front and another on the regular way- that sounds toasty
Ooh, nice, SM
heh heh- i m an old yankee and if its one thing i learned as a kid in maine- it was to improvise- use whachyagot and don t worry about fashion
problem with snuggies for me is taking it off ... all nice and warm and cozy ... then taking it off when it's time to (1) make tea, (2) change channel, (3) go to bed (or bathroom) .... welki, ove-ranalyzing a $20 purchase (typical)
i bought several bathrobes at garage sales over the summer for a buck each- hubby loves the pink one
<-- loved bar harbor
me too welki- bah haba is for rich folks and fisherman- i grew up poooooor in portland-lol
I just looked at the Snuggie site--$19.95 and then S & H. I can get a lot more fleece for that price from the fabric store
sammy, i was there 28 years ago .. didn't seem too high-pocketed at the time. but a beautiful area, even if it is :)
20 bucks is way too much to pay for a 10 dollar robe-lol
Yep, and I am Queen Frugal
it is truly beautiful welki- i would rather live almost anywhere in maine than anywhere else- but things are so expensive there now- i can t even afford to move there-lol
hi, babblers! just back from my Chinese class - it's beginning to make some sense (after 8 lessons)
we go home to visit as often as we can- my family is there- but 5 years between visits is a loong time
Hi JBV--good for you. That is a language I would not get.
and welki, saw your post about the snuggie - i'm with you - it's not convenient at all for those of us who don't sit still for very long
i just wear my good old sweaters and wool socks, and layer up
Maybe I will buy a huge piece of fleece, cut ho5 in for head + arms, and have it hang over me...make sense?
layers is goooooood
That's what I usually do--layers with fleece
yes it does scrabb
my area is expecting a fair amount of cold weather over the next few days ... will need more than a snuggie to keep warm when the wind chills are in the -30s
My mother is on her 2nd call with me--first one lasted 1 hr. She has a lot to say
sounds like a poncho, scrabbs :)
yes- a floor length poncho sounds great
Yes, a fleece poncho!
i think the attraction of the snuggie is that it has arms, not just arm-holes
over a robe of course
and sweats, too
yup\
with morning hair and socks that have pulled down some so the toes are longer than our feet .... yeah, that's us, the fashion makers!
i have been known to don a beret to keep the grey cells warm
talk about trendy *lol*
good thing we don't have a video cam here
the beret covers the morning hair, too ... nice strategy
(wearing grey sweat shirt + pants = pajamas)
later, folks ... going to survey what i should be doing around the house this weekend (aside from the ever-present laundry)
i have an ancient knitted cap that is so comfy and have convinced friends that it is now back in fashion
Bye Welki
i think that's the next marketing niche, sammy - caps in fashion colors to match the snuggie!
yup
or they will add a hoodie to it and charge another ten bucks
and lets not forget the tuck-under finger flaps - for an additional fee of course
one thing that actually is a good idea is some of those items that you warm up in the microwave - I have a neck cushion that you can wear across your back or neck, feels great for a while - you can also warm up your socks or slippers
Smat idea, JBV
I love my 'bed buddy'. I put mine in the microwave, then warm up my bed before I get in. I also have one that goes around my neck, and has scented lavender and other herbs.
I need breakfast! I stayed up late (tennis ladies' party last night) and slept till 11. I need to eat! bye.
when i was a kid in maine- we kept bricks in the oven of the wood stove- you would wrap the hot brick in flannel and take iit to bed with you to keep warn- and god help you if you forgot to bring it doen in the morning i would have frozen to death in my sleep without it- we did not have central heating
bye scrabbler
how was teh party?
brrrrr, sammy
ch- i was so acclimated to being cool- that after i moved to ohio i couldn t wear a coat in the winter for the first 10 years- only a sweater-lol
lol!
and the reverse is also true - I work with people who are from the caribbean, when the temperature drops into the 50's, they bring out the snowsuits, furlined gloves, etc!
hubby would sleep on the living room sofa because i would not allow heat in the bedroom-- i would start to sweat if the heat hit 60
i have trouble flying to texas and back from December to February because i dress so differently in those months up north
true-jb
have a friend from florida and she can t stay in my house in the winter- and i will not go to florida because of the heat
And again (with emphasis) BRRRRR! lol! Now I'm off to the kitchen to bake pumpkin/cranberry bread :)
i understand jm
hmmmm- baking- now that soulds like a nice project
o
hi razor
2nd Y word? - have sweet potatoes
yo+ writer *. *. Lawrence
ty!
yw
I hope one of my neighbors shovel my sidewalk!
no snow here yet, really, just some flurries the last couple of days. Not looking forward to it, I'll be the one shovelling here at the library, sigh.
:-( that was on e of the things i hated about my law office was having to leave my house and then go to the office and shovel!
having my office in a church means someone el4 shovels
Yuch- snow.
hey kap
luckily the town has to do our driveway at home, it's still technically a street. It's a block long. But they leave us till last, usually.
'sup?
my street isn't really high priority either but i am near enough to a main street that I do okay
we're the only ones on our dead end driveway
but work is only 2 blocks away for me, I like that.
when there was a blizzard here a few years ago, our neighbors paid to have the street cleared it wsa taking so long!
hama
chaem
chaes
Yikes- sorry!
and none of them useful! lol
drat, none of them worked! ;)
at least give some we can use! lol
Anyway- those were not words so you don't need to guess them.
teehee, we all think alike!
hi pyth!
hi jmc
i am struggling to 1/2 so I can take a break
Kaplan, I believe I'm mad at you
hi good -- don't be mad at kap!
I'm at 98, will try for 100, but it's time to go home - where my net might be down. Don't wanna go! *whine*
I said I was sorry. And I didn't give away any vital words.
poor rbud -- can't you stay late at the library?
I believe you were the one touting the praises on babble on wordsplay - now look at me!
ca6/24 please the first one
I think hubby wants to go somewhere. :(
Why- what happened?
does he actually think anything is more important than babble, rbud?
think of being unconscious and throw in a couple of extra vowels at the start for ca6/24
Kaplan, I'm hooked! Spending way too much time on this crazy thing!
oooo kap trap good into babble!
Which- on wordsplay or here?
no idea jm
so go pro good!*wrings hands* bwahahahahaha
okay, 101, and just got NBT, off I go. (lol, python, if I have to, I'll sneak back here later!)
hmmm let me think tij
bye rbud, be safe
bye rbud
You too jmc - telling me to stay up and wait for the flip!
You mean what I said on wordsplay got you hooked here? I got here when wordsplay was down for 15 minutes and I was jonesing.
wasn't the flip a hoot?
yes! thats the problem!
ca+vowel+ ***ha nebraska
thx alot
and plural for the ca7
that did it?
yah
ty pyth i forgot the pl! lol
what are the stats on the 8
ch8 / 60
Well- this is a bit more satisfying than wordsplay, and the chat is funner. Which is a word, I decided. Welcome to a new addiction
ty pyth
yw
made it half way, bbl for the rest
wtg pyth c u later
re-hi folks
wb welki
one load out, one load in ... rest of the house looks like it can wait unti tomorrow (hate cleaning twice over the weekend ... and if i do it today, will have to re-do tomorrow (thank you doggies))
lol tell your dogs to clean up after themselves
did anyone else take pics at your luncheon last weekend, jm?
no my camera was stolen when my house was burgled
they're actually pretty good, but they shed. boy do they shed.
my son told me last night that he Stumbled Upon Babble
he said he looked for a while to see if I was in the chog and then moved on since this was my space
i wear black for work most of the time (just because), so if i don't keep up with the hair, i run the risk of looking like i just came from playtime with the pooches
he's so sweet
my cat is white and dark grey so there is nothing you can wear and not get hairy
that's pretty classy of him ... guess he's thinking ahead, that he might feel a wee bit 'oppressed' if mom visited his sites
his sites are mainly car and motorcycles pages so there is little threat there!
but I do talk about babbleland a lot so he knows it is important to me
and I would have been really embarrassed if he knew I used his photo for an icon!
my cat is grey with a little white on her chest
lol ... 'mom, you're soooo busted'
he would have been pissed! lol
da6/24 please
tables would have been turned for sure. 'i am so disappointed in you. how could you have ....'
sorry don't have it tij
a da6 in distress
so true I should be better behaved
ty welki
2 more words to 1/2 way!
aw heck jm .. there has to be SOME place on the face of this good earth where we don't have to be on our best behavior all the time. this is da place.
I am soo not on my best behavior here!
we spend our time at work dancing around semantics, professional protocol and political correctness ... we deserve to be a little naughty :)
thx welki
'welcome
i tell you it is especially hard in the peace community
yep, i suppose you have some pretty interesting challenges *lol*
i am expected to say things like "peace points" rather than "bullet points"
makes me gag! :-P
lawdy
guess i'm a little freer in my work community
then again, as you might have guessed, there's not much i won't say .. i just try to say it ~~nicer~~ at work
i even got a note from a donor complaining that he had heard my organization was in a dispute with another organization
and that we had to stop disagreeing our he would stop donating
he donates $10/year!!!!!!
*runs around chog pulling hair out*
because disagreement is a violent action? oh my goodness. always the big spenders who have something to say
you need to get yerself a gun *lmao*
I will pass on the gun but I do get frustrated!
hi, all..hi, ch12
hi angel
hehehe .. you're a lawyer. the nature of your profession is based on dispute and conflict. no wonder jack is such a pal :)
ch12?
no the nature of my profession is the resolution of disputes!
but yes, jack is my best friend at times! lol
is ch12 here?
if no dispute, there'd be no need to resolve. chicken before the egg
phone
no ch12
do6/21 plz
hang down your head, tom do****, but spelled differently
make sense?
thz welki
ahh, good :)
well, back to chores. bbl
Back from brunch, cleaning
back from phone
1/2 way so I am going to get some work done bbl
*footsteps echo in the empty chog*
*poof*
back for a few more;0
crossy streaks neeked through the chog!..fwappity..fwappity!..FWAPPITY!. .
crossy it is tooo cold for that!
sun is out today and its 10c!
evening all
howdy sprite
that my point
back to my old icon, right?
good, it worked. I had to get it from my sudoku icon
i feel neeked without my refular icon..fwappity..fwappity!
regular even
crossy, was taht you I say nekkid
it is Sinterklaas icon day!
not me,im wearing mistletoe in honour of the season;0
*saw nekked* even
Sprite I tried to change to Sinterklaas. My computer is still in recovery mode
thanks for trying anyway, inge!
sinterclass ?
see my profile, crossy... it is all there.
Hello, sprite. Are you humming white christmas?
*grins* Not yet, not yet. It is Sinterklaas, so that asks for other songs. Counting down though... how many more days until after Xmas?
21
almost there then. How are you today, BabbleRabble?
I am erect and able to take nutrition
I will take that as describing your whole physique and not just a part... sounds not too bad, though not yet radiantly happy.
Saw my doc yesterday and he said I talk too much and listen too little ...
was he projecting?
I told the doc if he had more to say I would listen harder
and if he had anything sensible to say, you would listen, period.
precisely
He describes me as a "difficult" client
I like him a lot
not very helpful from your doc. But perhaps he likes difficult clients. They are the most interesting.
He said he has been helping people for over fifty years ..
I told him people are never too old to learn and he chuckled
:-) He sounds very ok. Did he have anything to add that actually might help you?
he called you difficult? i find that hard to believe;))
Yes, we changed my meds a bit to accommodate the difficulties I have during winter
at least he is fair and square about it.
Hi all -- just got fireworks :)
I know, crossy ... I was shocked
well, off to face the hoards..1 present each thats it..pray for crossy
Ah good, I hope it will help. *sends a bit of sunshine over*
jilli, wtg!
congrats, jilli
great writeup and icon, jilli!
same to you, sprite!
did you know that in some regions scissors are not allowed on Sinterklaas-avond? All packages have to be opened by hand.
thanks :)
Oh, wow!
Thanks to both of you for the information
lol sprite, ive never seen a cutting tool ever needed at the base of out trees, claws seem to work just fine,as long as you dont mind the paper fallout
You must be busy today, sprite -- or is it pretty well over?
a pleasure, babrab
then you have never celebrated a decent Sinterklaas avond, crossy :)
you're very welcome, babbleRabble
jilli I have been soooo bad about it. I didn't want to celebrate, my love didn't and my son didn't. Only my girl wanted to celebrate. So I asked my sister, who has 2 'believing' kids, if Caya could join them. Everybody loved the solution. So I have been busy with making packages and poems, but this evening is very quiet :D
what does avond mean?
evening
hence the reason i have de-comericalized the melbourne family christmass the last 5 years or so,try and recapture the reason for the season
sinterklaas is not about commerce. If you read jilli's profile text, it says it all. It is about the fun. And Christmas we don't celebrate with gifts, here. Most don't, anyway, though America's influence is growing.
sound good indeed sprite
What do you do at Christmas?
Christmas here is traditionally celebrated at home, with a Xmas tree and decorations, lots of candles, family dinner, singing Xmas songs. If weather allows, a walk through the woods should be part of the fun.
Sounds lovely. I'm not looking forward to Christmas this year.
woods or any other part of nature, actually.
why is that, jilli?
The holidays are fraught with unrealistic expectations, stress and disappointment for many
that is exactly it, BabbleRabble. For many it is the stressiest time of the year. What I remember best about the holidays in my youth was the tension between the illusion of how COZY it was and how happy we all were, and the reality of all the fights and beatings and humiliations. It was sick.
Dinner is to be with my granddaughter's boyfriend's family -- six of them, and I've been told I should get little presents for all of them. They are complete strangers, except for a 6-year-old girl I met at Thanksgiving.
oh dear, that is not easy. Some neutral little things then... pens, postcards, stuff like that?
I hope I can convince them that there should not be a gift exchange at Christmas dinner. We have out family gift that morning.
*our family gifts
d-i-l suggests gift certificates -- Starbucks for one of them, something called Timmy Ho's for another, ugh!
yeah, or go with the flow, maybe? It might be fun, though maybe not really in tune with Xmas dinner?
not at all your kind of thing, I suspect? Though it is easy to get, gift certificates.
I have enough to do, with cards and wrapping gifts for the family . . . maybe I'm just lazy
It's not easy to get those gift certificates HERE. Those places don't exist.
I'd say be lazy and do the certificates. You will save your energy by not shopping for them and not arguing with them about gifts or no gifts.
ouch. Can your d-i-l fix them for you?
Probably. She has also suggested I get a ski pass for my granddaughter at a mountain near them -- but I have no idea how to do that.
go online and check
I will whisper this, so you can ignore me if you don't want to hear it... but can't you claim some help because of your respectable age? If she can do it for you, fine.
D-i-l and son are frantically busy right now with rehearsals and set-building for the play they're doing at the school -- The Importance of Being Earnest, running from Dec 10 - 18.
find out the ski resort
Thanks, Joanne. Mount Seymour is the place -- don't know if there's a website.
there has to be
and your very welcome
there's a site for everything these days

yvw jilli. If I can help in any way, let me know.
Minver, I like your icon!
I don't think she needs lessons -- she's pretty expert. Her bf snowboards.
oh and your pictures of jack!
Thank you sprite. Never heard of Sinterklaas before.
ca 6/24 is ca plus L** the Lion plus not pa Joanne123.
for me it is one of the fun things about the icons. We all get to know about new things :)
ca6 & 7 - ca + vowels except for fifth letter. The 7 is the pl.
tyty

any ideas for the A on top? all i have is am 4, am 5 and 6

thnx Joanne
yvw
I'm studying Chinese now - it's starting to sink in after about 3 months of lessons
yes, JBV. See my bio if you scroll down.
that is rather fast, JBV. Incredibly different in any way from the languages you knew, right?
I never learned the language but my parents did. My Scottish dad was fluent and could write it too.
yes, sprite, it's a big stretch for me, but fun - i'm catching on which is so exciting
what is the alpha numeric for the ch 7, please?
wonderful, JBV!

gratz periwinkle
I have to go and get some lunch. Not hungry. Still coughing.
hi peri
they were in a shoebox with the shoes I wored to a wedding. I had to take the box out of the closet fo put someething under it and decided to open the box to see which pair of shoes were there. had no idea the sunglasses would be there too!!
where were they?
take care of yourself, jilli. Drink plenty, at least, ok? *hugs*
byeee jill
I was blaming the cats for hiding them
sensible place for sunglasses
I am afraid you blamed them for something they didn't do, lol.
I'll be baaaack
that's good news, peri - gives me hope that I may still come across a lost set of carkeys - they must be here somewhere

(((((((((((SPRITE)))))))))) *CHOCLIT*
hello all
thought about you all week sprite, how are you doing?
stiddie!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Big hug, dear, how are you?
am good, stiddie! Got to keep my invalidity benefit for at least another 1,5 - 2 years. Time to get better!
I am okay sprite, I have a lot of work to do, but taking a short break to eat, then will work until I go to mother's in a bout an hour
*unwraps the choclit and starts munching*
excellent news, sprite! *relieved mama look* that is such a good thing!
am so darn proud of you, stiddie. WTG!
tell her hello Please Stid
hi DR
I will DR, thanks.
Hi Sprite- good to hear you are doing better
thank you DR :)
sprite, how is that lovely puppy?
did you hear ruru's puppy was born? He's very excited about it!
Terra is 10 months old now, sweet as ever, and so delightful. He has shed almost all his puppy hair. Has a shiny fur, so pretty. He is loved beyond telling, lol.
yes I heard, am excited with and happy for him!
wonderful, sprite. I love happy puppy (and baby) stories!
os 5?
I would love to get our Lucky a companion, but Tom just thinks it would be too much work and expense right now. I know he's right, but Lucky is so lonely when I am gone.
don't have it yet, nan, sorry
I don't have that one yet nan
*thinking hard*
way too much work, stiddie, alas. It takes so much time to train a puppy.
or is that hardly thinking? LOL
can someone tell me how the clues work?
I don't think we'd get a puppy, we prefer to rescue dogs. But they have their own set of needs that must be addressed.
oh there it is. Os + animal that dugs underground, minus last letter
which clues do you mean, npm?
thanks sprite!
click on the help button npm -- everything explained there -- welcome to Babble
like ac 4,6
npm: os 5 means a five-letter word starting with OS
yvw stiddie
AC 4/6 would be a four letter word starting AC that is worth 6 points total.
gotcha.........couldn't figure out the number part...thanks so much!
ty sprite -- put the vowel back on for the 6
ah, that means there is a word that starts with ac, is 4 letters long and is worth 6 points.
5 letter words are worth double the point value indicated on the tiles, 6 letter words are triple points, etx.
ah thanks nan!
there are good hints in the "help" section for babble, and a whole website of great ideas at angelsong's pages (link below). good luck.
all typing in unison, lol
and with that, I must depart. I am more than halfway through this essay question stuff, but it seems to be going slower and slower...
*evil grin* My son misbehaved badly yesterday and lost his computer rights for the weekend... it works miracles for his schoolwork! He has done so much already. Just came in to show me, hehehe.
LOL yes sprite, great minds, and all that!
thank you
(((hugs everyone))) good luck and see you-all again soon!
good luck and speed to you, stiddie! Take care of you and I hope to see you soon. *hugs*
what's wrong with physio?
wish I knew, nan
Oh sprite, I TOTALLY hear that! I just told the elder son that all internet use is off limits until 7 tonight. He needs to study for TWO college finals and was playing with facebook! *sigh*
later! *poof*
that ph 6 has me stumped
I have a 6/33 that is a past tense, nan
ph6 abbrev for sport at school
morning all
that's not a word!!!!!
hi lyn, is that the one I said?
but ty lynxxx -- just get so fed up with all these nonwords.
lol, it IS a word... in enable!
lyn, the at the ocean word two days in a row!
the same Sprite, silly nonword but has been in before
thanks lyn!
I know Sprite - I just found it!
so did I, grin, took me quite some time though.
*!* ta da *!* -- thanks for the help :)
wtg nan!
Congrats C'nan!
that you could have ph 6 but not physio is beyond understanding!
I agree, physio should be valid
Stop it Nan, you will drive yourself mad trying to fathom out how it works
I would love the opportunity to question why some prefixes are included and not others, why some foreign words and not others, why some abbreviations and not others, why some anacronyms and not others, etc. etc. etc.
anyway -- off to other pursuits -- see you at the flip or tomorrow :)
bye C'nan
just because it seemed a good idea at the time, nan. Did you read jilli's opinion on the maker of enable?
and bye nan
bye cyber
hi all
hi jmc! How are you doing?
I am here to avoid pulling all my hair out
that answer it pretty clearly. Want me to hold your hands or shall i put out a boxing bag and let you beat it out?
*answerS
hi jmc - you are working?
i was buying tickets online and set my card to one side and now I can't find it
not exactly lynxxx just setting up travel
I had to resort to cleaning! and I still haven't found it
argh that is awful. On the floor? On your chair? Somewherein the folds of your clothes? In your wallet, neatly put away?
I have looked in all those places and the trash basket too
the only good thing is that it HAS to be in the house
under keyboard? in your pocket? Did you put away any stacks of stuff and could it be in one of those?
pls help having terrible time with ha5/12 ha6/21 and ha5/18 been stuck here for awhile
ha + spanish exclamation and plural for the 5/6 combo
do you have animals that may have played with it?
using laptop in lap, checked my pockets (at least three times) and carefully went through ever stack of magazines near the chair
my cat is too much of a snob
thank you so much sprite
hah, any snob cat would love to shop online
yvw speedfreak, don't have the 5/18 yet though
well there is that possiblity sprite -- I will have to watch her like a hawk
chair w/cushion? in between cushion + side of chair or underneath cushion?
hi welki
hi :)
hi welki and I took apart the chair and the nearby sofa
where do you put card when entering numbers onto site?
any shoes sitting on the floor? Could be in one of those... handbag? On table or cupboard where telephone is standing?
ha5.18 past tense of what horses eat
I place it in the fold of my laptop propped against the screen
thanks lyn
ty lynxxx
thank you lynxxx
silly jmc. Your laptop ate it.
and .. where do you normally keep it? maybe you put it back in wallet/purse/cookie jar and forgot that you did (but you probably already checked there)
my shows are sandals, I took may purse apart and even dumped the trash out of the bottom and I use a cell phone (blackberry) for everything
I think you are right --- bad laptop!
did you get hungry afterwards? Check fridge and kitchen sink...
i do this all the time .. i usually find card when talking to guy at visa/mc
I once found back my glasses in my fridge. Still don't know how they got there though.
I will have to go clean the kitchen now!
it's not still in between laptop and screen, is it? (that would be a welki place to look)
I have done this before or I would be more upset
cleaning even! That is pretty intense. Just looking should do it.
nope I would see it while babbling
it would be a sprite place to look last, too :)
at the back of the keyboard, tumbled over?
it will turn up I was just on a roll paying bills and making travel plans and it is frustrating to have to stop suddenly
i came back from kids' and thought i'd lost a good watch. i wore it on trip, but not on the way home. missing for a week when i spotted it in a drawer .. cat might have played hockey with it and it fell in or i put it there in a welkitrance
not on the laptop sprite
it might be one of those self-exploding card that blow up when the limit is reached, jmc. Did you check that?
lol this is why my son doesn't trust me with the car keys
i know that my credit cards seem to self-destruct every now and then
hello babble friends - JMC, dear! What a conundrum! Did you have bills in envelopes? Might be in one of those....or in a file, if you filed a bill after paying it?
no its my back debit card and I just put money in
good ideas, Trif, and hi :)
must be down the side of the chair, I would look again. It isn't under the chair is it?
oo there is a file I could look in (already checked the envelopes)
brb
hi sprite
hello Trif
FOUND IT!!!!
hello lynxxx, love
YAY for jmc!!!! where was it?
yayyyyy! Where was it?
and it was where?
it had slipped into the chair -- deep in the sides!
in the file?
ty ty for all your help
Yay, I guessed right
I looked one more time when I stood up to look at the file
lol you should look better, we all said it *evil grin* Gratz on having it back!
excellent news, jmc!!!! what a relief!
^5 lynxxx ... i told to her to check there, too .... but noooo, she took the chair APART and it was no place to be found *lol*
*gives lynxx a blue ribbon for winning*
jmc, my husband and I have this agreement over the lost and found. We used to fight about his being unable to spot stuff. But now he just tells me: "Love, I have searched everywhere. Can you please find it for me now?"
I took all of your advice and did look better
I'll share with you welki, we can take turns wearing it
LOL sprite - I used to tease mine that when he said he "couldn't find" something, what he meant was "it did not fall from heaven into my outstretched hands."
hey hey, I want my share too!
the only thing that I am sure in a male trait unlearn in society is the lack of ability to find things
to say nothing of "male refrigerator blindness" which is a whole 'nother affair!
lolll exactly Trif! Mine claims he is great at searching, just not at finding.
no no welki and sprite should get each get their own!
*gives welki and sprite each a blue ribbon for winning*
The Blue Ribbon Babble Trio
my son has the same problem
You all look lovely in your ribbons!
I have a friend that charges her kids $1.00 if she has to go and find something and it is exactly where she told them it should be - and she charges her husband $5.00 for the same service!!
yes, primo seems to be developing it too - must be testosterone driven
Good Enough has a friend that's a millionaire
good idea good
*graciously accepts a ribbon on behalf of the Canadian Credit Card Search and Rescue Team*
I did that once with my son but it was $20
Ha ha!
good one, GE
lol welki
it is all explained in the great book of the Pease couple " Why men don't listen and women can't read maps".
but I taught my son how to read maps
and he is a great listener
Hang on - that should be "why men won't read maps"
i can read maps better than anyone i know
women can't read maps because for years they were told that whatever a man had, it was ten inches long.
lol trif
ah, maybe that's the reason .. i grew up in a house with no men
read it! Seriously. One of the best books on this that I know. And funny as hell.
the same reason I never got a gift sweater that fit - Mr. Hate would enter the shop, and WHOEVER waited on him would be told "Oh! My wife is about your size...."
meel
lol good
....they call me me6 ye****....
quite rightly
grin
. . . that's right. . . .
Oh My.... I see Sprite! I am so happy to see you, Spritey. How are you?
hi Soodle! Am good, thanks, and you?
hi soodle boodle!
hello soodle!
hi soodle
hi ata!
i watched three movies on the plane rides last week .. chick flicks extraordinaire, but i liked them for the most part: chocolat, julie/julia and my sister's keeper (more kleenex than case law, but a diversion all the same)
hi Soodle & Ata
hey soodle, ata :)
All the better for seeing you, my friend, Sprite. And How the Heck, are you, Ata, Trif, Jmc Wilki and ....oh, my, I really love my Babble friends
chocolat is only one I know, I liked it very much
good company tonight, Soodle :) Glad you are joining us.
I had dinner out last week with a friend from Cork, soodle that was here on business. Good to see him!!!
the gal who played trinity in the matrix flicks was in chocolat
my father's family was from cork
And if I omitted anyone, apologies. Blame the 2 glasses of wine at lunch :(
living the good life!
Ooooh, Welki - cork is the BEST county in Ireland!
*imaging a woman dipped in chocolate*
hmmm an X-rated chog
I loved chocolat because one of my fave films of all time is the Unbearable Lightness of Being, in which Lena Olin was the strong woman, and Juliette Binoche was the shy little mouse. It was so so so interesting to see those roles reversed in the Chocolat film. Those two actresses are SO GOOD
I spent most of the day talking to my NI friend who types in her Irish accent. She's so sweet
make it a lovely guy and I will eat the chocolat
ooo a film!
i still have family there, but i haven't met them
OOOOh Welki - Cork is the BEST county in Ireland.
lol jmc
what can I say I have a vivid imagination
I watched the McCallum series. Love the accent.
LOL jmc! Yes, Unbearable Lightness of Being is absolutely a FILM. Weekend at Bernie's is a movie
one of the many things I love about you, jmf
*jmc
Did anybody see the film Chocolat - Its just wonderful!!
:-) it is good to be loved
yup saw it and loved it
I have actually seen two or three different films named chocolat....
read the book
Chocolat is my favorite film. I cry every time I watch it - really relate.
hi ch12
good book, Ata?
My son went to see Paranormal Activity last night. He is 19 - and, thinks he is invincible. He was seriously rattled when he came home................
hi ch!
what was that book .. mexican chocolate mole ...
i saw like water for chocolate
aw that is sweet, Soodle. Good for him!
ahhhh, je!! you are in my head! thank you!
My mom traveled in carnivals, and we constantly moved. Like the main character, I finally found stability (and love) in a small town of quirky folks :)
good book, yes. not one of the best ever, but certainly worth reading
mole is ma4 from chocolate by definition
thanks Ata, will put it on my list.
i did not like it
not much of a revenge book fan
wow ch, interesting life!
I've heard that Soodle
all her books are nice
Well, the early part anyway ;)
help with the am5 pls
a + the chocolate just discussed :)
a + digging underground animal

fireflies for me, and I have to be off. Bye all, thanks for being here and being who you are. *hugs*
whoo hoo sprite and good bye

yay spritey!
the timing was funny! :-)
bye Spritey. I am away too, bye all
I'm happy now, soodle. ( big pause ) Truthfully, my mom remarried a wonderful man when I was 9, so the traveling after that was because he was in the military.
Sprite - goodnite, and I am genuinely happy to see you back on babble. (((((Hugs)))))

{{{ hugs to you, dear sprite }}}
I'm happy, but not genuinely. only joking :P
Ooooooooooooh Ch - I DO love happy-ever-afters......! (
Genuinely!!
hmmm am I happy? most of the time

lol
ROFL

CHRISTMAS SHOPPING IS DONE!! YAAA!
whoo hoo crossy
I haven't even started mine
what'd you get us, crossy?
yay crossy!
crossy! was just thinking of you! well done on the shopping!
lol same as last year, just different colour welki;)))
lol welki!
tomorrow's headline in Canada: Mysterious bacon shortage reported. In other news, Crossy's shopping is done!
You know what - just looking at the Tiger Woods thing - is there a man on the planet who can keep it in his trousers - (apologies if this is too graphic)
*looks out window for mail carrier with crossy's gift*
hehe
yes. castrated ones
ata!!!
my hubby did
i do
and a few others :D
;)
In which case, ATA, May I suggest general castration?
but then he wasn't famous with hundreds of women throwing themselves at him
one woman is enough, who the heck would want two at once??
as far as I know, my hubby did too - and now he is trying to keep all the money in his pants too!
tiger woods!
bill clinton
david letterman
But, for heavens sake... He had a Gorgeous wife. A Fabulous house, A dream job. He had it all. And he wanted more.....
Marion Barry
hugh grant
I find it highly amusing though than an anti-insomnia drug cause sexual - um - highening
heightening. duh
OK
I think it must be hard not to react to beautiful women offering themselves to you
it's that pesky sense of entitlement that success brings. Laws and rules don't apply to the privileged, you see....or so they seem to think
and every one ma4 fun of Jimmy Carter for saying he had only lusted in his heart
i know i have a hard time fending off all the offers from attractive young men ... some days, i just don't know how i resist
Not sure, jmc - the men I meet seem to be able to stay sane around ME, so it can't be universally difficult...cough cough
be strong welki
you are truely noble welki
i knew you'd laugh, jm
thats a wonderful reply, jmc
I dont agree, Trif. I think most men have that sense of entitlement....most of them mistakenly!!
are you saying you are throwing yourself at them trif? *shocked look*
hi all :)
hi jas
not at all! The tide wouldn't take me out, JMC
not women? this is only a man-thing? i don't think so.
opps jes
hi jess :)
how goes?
aha, here's someone who castrates males for a living :)
oops oops
(time for me to NOT come in)
my wife made it easy for me,around our tenth year i said to her"hey dear, how about we spice things up and get ourselves a sweet 25 year old honey to share our bed?" and she said "go right ahead, but ill leave you for the other woman after a year, and we will both sue for alimony"..i never mentioned it again after that...;((
welcome, ruru! Just keep it in your pants, please.
hi ru
always liked mrs. Crossy....
I will today.. jeezus
indeed, ata. and take the ovaries out of the females too
come on in ru this topic has almost run its course
Crosshair.. You are truly a man amongst men....
a very good job :)
yup, trained within a hair of my life now
heck soodle, don't give him credit .. it's only his wallet he was saving *lol*
help with ch7 please
hahahahahahah, crossy, that's beautifly
how's your waifs and strays count?
I don't need no stinking training...
I must admit, I got a kick out of the other golfers they interviewed on tv, speaking about Tiger. One just cracked me up - he was all "see, she should have used a DRIVER, not a putter...." LOL!
one, to ch* ch* ch* + pl of look what i ma** in school today!
*looks doubtfully at ru*
ty welki
that would be the ch8
*looks doubtfully at ch8*
mebbee I shudda said it as "I dun need no stinkin' training"
lol trif I didn't see that
I am so tired! I am practically asleep here and it's only 6
(exhausted from throwing herself at men probably)
fight the fight rur
ruru even
LOLOLOL
lol ru!
(a rebel without a cause)
lookin' for pics, rurur

i have a reader program on it, but the battery only lasts a couple hours of reading
i forgot your fair was today. i went the other way to hyannis' fair

pda even
that must have been fun trif
there were a TON of fairs today. People were making the circuit. I think having lots of fairs on the same day is a great idea - people just go from one to the other
my wife can read 7 novel between charges jes,(if she doent use the led side lighting)
yah; i'd like to not carry multiple gadgets though, so had a few questions if you don't mind?
go ahead jes
it was fun, but I am so tired! Primo had a stand where he would draw cartoons of people, and I helped ink them in, and we were SWAMPED the last three hours of the day
i researched theese readers for a year,so i have most of the info at hand
i like to go to craft fairs. don't buy much but "borrow ideas
are there an address book and calendar programs available for the readers? primarily i use my pda for reading books i've downloaded and as my address book
i'm inclined to avoid kindle, in good part because of the whole ganking 1984 thing
I need to see if this worked
oh, yes, knitter, oh yes! Primo did great, but he was just the teeniest bit naughty - one of the "church ladies" got her caricature done, and was all "don't draw my glasses! I am not paying for a drawing of me with glasses!" so he drew her with no glasses, but added a pink feather boa. I rolled!
is the os5 a familiar word?
welki?
LOL seems as though he has your sense of humor
feh. he's funnier than me!
yes ru?
the touch screen reader have a stylus notepad type feature to store reminders and such,we got the sony reader because it is all touch screen and no fiddling with little buttons, the sony reader annonates, stores pictures, will store and play mp3,s has internal storage for 350 books and has a regualar and micro sd card slot which can hold up to 10,000 books and manuals
here's a photo of the mom.. my little guy is on her front arm
gorgeous, ruru
Ruru! Squuueeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
it plays mp3? excellent :)
i can only see the tiny icon pic, your profile, even after refreshing, is the same photo as before
hi harp
sorry don't have the os5
indeed, but the real sell jes,is the suppoorted file formats, the kindle has a proprietary file format, while the sony reader sopports html open format,e-pub,so you can download books from libraries and pdf
I can't find the os 5 either
I can see it welki..
nice looking pup ru
hi
the barnes and nioble nook is much the same
thanks... he has chunky little legs.. which I love in little puppies
i switched browsers .. i can see him too!
good to know that crossy so the sony reader sounds the better deal
jeesh, ruru -- do us all a favor, okay? if you are getting the pup from a breeder, DON"T tell anyone!
what's the battery life for reading and listening to music?
has you-know-who ever been back?
lol ... mom and baxter look alike!
a few times right after, ata, and then....I don't know -- not when I have seen, anyway
It is okay Tri.. I am going to rescue another dog later when he is a bit older and we do Show, Agility and competitive obedience
hopefully not :)
wow, ruru! impressive!
for reading jes,it can read up to 7,500 pages between charges, listening to music id give it 3 days of intermittent use,the reason for the long reading life is that the e-ink readers use no power while displaying a page, only while turning a page
and tracking..(I forgot that one)
but music is not its big thing, just an afterthought they tossed it,as a book reader it icannot be surpassed, the 8 font sizes are a big seller also as thats why i got it for my mrs,so she could read again after not being able to for 10 years
Was temporarily absent whilst dirving 17yr old daughter off for a nite on the town.. Back now...
hi soodle
ru, i've changed icon to a more recent photo of baxter
LOL soodle, I am about do to the same here, but for the boy child....hm......wonder if their paths will cross?
Hi Jes!! :)
got a friend that has a kindle and is ecstatic about the fact that it will read the books to her
any other questions about them jes? you can go to sonystyle.com for more info as well
...for some reason, it's a little distorted, but you'll see through that
yes this one does audio books as well
which isn't nearly as much a draw for me as the music.
Oh, Trif - the role of Mom of teenage kids is not an eay one....
Good evening to all. Ruru, your little boy is adorable. TY for the info, Crossy, in case I consider a reader someday.
hi again, scrabbs
he is one nice looking boy
thank you for telling me that, soodle. I wasn't aware of that. tee hee!
hello scrabbler!
just if there are existing address book and calendars for the reader. oh! and i don't suppose it has a calculator program?
hi, scrabs
do you know what you're going to call him, ruru?
I have had a lazy, hibernation day here. Still in pajamas.
dont buy it for the music jes..on an i-pod scale id give its music sound quality about a 4..it is a great reader, audio and visual, but everything else is average
thank you scrabs
All in the course of duty...............
no,no calculator
you can make an adress book and put it in there
sounds nice scrabs
Hows things on the domestic front, Trif?
not sure yet ata.. need to see his personality.. Dylan has the inside track
your kids are very lucky, soodle
I like having these kind of days, when I just take care of me and relax.
dogs do tend to name themselves
if you read at least one book a week, buy it,it is made for and caters to bibliophiles
well, any music is better than my pda, and i don't have an ipod
I think so.. I want something clever for him
I met a gorgeous Bernese Mtn Dog puppy named Dylan several months ago--a sweetheart.
you deserve them scrabs!
this is sounding good crossy
Ata>>> I am HOARSE telling them that! The feckers wont listen to me , tho'..................
if you have visual problems with regular books, then definatly buy it
it's been an exciting week on that front, soodle....he closed the joint accounts on friday, and cancelled the joint credit card, so I am effectively cut off from all source of money now. What a prince.
I hate how heavy all my books are when I travel
have a job interview tuesday, so that's good.
have you talked to a lawyer trid
*trif
i have 200 books on the wife e-book reader atm;))
my mum would have laughed at me if I asked for a lift at this time of night!
no, no vision problems...just looking to avoid packing a half dozen books with me every time i travel ;)
And, Trif, do you have independent means?
have one, jmc, yes, and so does he. mine is LOVELY -- and pissed that mr. hate keeps running off and doing whatever he wants, totally disrespecting the channels we have established, jmc.
No, soodle
so is there anything the kindle does that the ereader doesn't do? and same with the nook?
He continues to reveal his character, Trif. Maintain yours. The kids are learning from you.
I am not trying to pry, but, genuine concern..
okay then I won't worry too much
the kids know NOTHNG of us being cut off, scrabbler, and they won't find out, if I can help it. They need to love their dad....
I understand soodle - I don't mean to sound short. It is more that I worry I have worn out my babble sympathies with my constant whinging.
they will find out trif, but you don't need to tell them at this point
Yes, best that they not know the details, but they will see the truth as time goes on.
*whing*
Trif... I am so sorry. but - nothing is un- get-overable! What doesn't kill you, makes you stronger. And I am living proof!!!
everybody duck it is ricocheting around the chog!
Good evening to my fellow babblers! How is everyone?
if I don't get some income soon they will know sooner than later, as there will be no food, heat or lights!
hi min!
By the way, congratulations to all the finishers! YAY!
good evening min dear! welcome to YOU!!!!
hang in there trif
I will say again -- know that you can email me for help
Hi Minveryork
hanging in. Will do!
ok, how are there cat hairs in a newly opened loo roll? cat hairs are everywhere
I know jmc....
lol
OH GROSS ata!
I don't even want to know!
rolf
Ata, I find bunny hair everywhere in my house, on my clothes...
ack now I have cat hairs on my sweater!
ok jes.....
on an unrelated, and yet related topic - have any of you done that "cash in your gold" thing? is it worth it? I do have a friend that sold an old bracelet she had, but at a jewelers, and she got a good deal.
did anyone ever get os5?
they'll probably find cat hairs in the large hadron collider
Trif - I dont know if I ever gave you my own email address - medickinson@eircom.net - please feel free to email me....I surely don't claim to offer any suggestions, but I have 2 good listening ears............
it is better to take it to a reputable jewler trif
why, thank you soodle!
the big thig i must stress when buying one of the top 3 readers is that the kindle has a single proprietary file formatt while the sony and barnes and noble readers support 3 or more formatts including e-pub which is what all the libraries doe thier e-books in
Like I said, Trif - I don't have a magic wand, but I can listen.....
os 5/12 word is os plus actress Gretchen *** jmcnrick
kindle doesn NOT support E-pub or pfd
Key piece of info to know, Crossy. TY.
hmm if I only knew who that was
you want my suggestion for a reader pick at this time jes?
trif, "cash4gold" is a total rip off. you're MUCH better to go to a pawn shop or local jewler--read a report on them recently and you can expect to get anywhere fom 1/3 more, to twice as much from a pawn shop
np scrabbs
okay I have a serious and important question
sure, crossy :)
Evening all.......clues please for ha5/12 and 6/21
os 5/12 is os plus a double agent minus the last letter
(better a jeweler than a pawn shop)
thanks jes!
is it on a broader plain or a broader plane?
I am on team edward, jmc, if that what you are asking
I bought myself a Flip Ultra Video Digital Camcorder for $89 on Amazon. I'd rather have a bitty, well-rated one than try to save for a superduper one.
Hello Flask1! How are you doing? Welcome to the grid
sorry i don't have a link directly to it, trif, but it was a pretty big difference :)
get the barnes and noble "nook" reader,it is 100 dollar less than the top end sony reader and support the same file formats and uses a google operating system and AT&T carrier for book downloads
what?!!?!?
Hi Minver do you have a clue for me please?
broader plainI *think*
Trif I have no idea what you just said
Min that clue confused me even more!
My monkeys are working on word right now Flask1.
Its my last 2 words....
okay. i didn't even know the nook existed until a couple weeks ago, crossy :) has it been out on the market long enough to've worked the bugs out?
that was what I was thinking ata but my sister thinks it is a geometric plane
Hi Flask
hi flask
Hi Scrabbler
ha 5/12 is ha+a poem and then plural the word Flask1
and JMC
yes indeed jes,the first run of them is currently sold out, then next ship starting january 7th,there are already 1 million preorders,so get your order in;))
Folks. Its 11.30 pm here, and I am heading for the scratcdhe (bed). Trif - keep in touch - and the rest of you - you have my email -add me as a friend on Facebook - ( Seriously impressive for an Irishwoman to have heaps of Americans as friends.....)
*scratching head in confusion*
could be either I guess ...
jmcnrick, think of the reality game show the **** for double agent clue. Someone who isn't what they seem
excellent. thanks, crossy :)
sleep sweet, soodle
Sleep well, Soodle
Hey everyone!
glad to help you impress your friends soodle
Hi Red!
if you order now,you get a certificate of purchace to give as a gift or to hold your place in the distribution line
hi red!
hey red
Yay!! Soodlebum! International Ambassador!!!
alright :)
How is everyone! Wow, everyone is Here. Ruru did you share your news recently?
Min that ha clue doesn't work at all
brb
ru even shared a photo
ha + Spanish hurrah, then pluralize
Hi redturtlehead! How are you? Welcome to the grid!
everyone seems to know red..
ha is whitey in hawaiian
hi Minver and jmc and scrabbs, and and and
thanx Scrabbler!!!
Oops! I am sorry! It is ha plus a spanish cheer Flask1.
ha is?
Fireworks for flask....thanx all....and g'nite!!
so when I write ha ha ha I am writing whitey whitey whitey?
jmcnrick os5/12 is os plus ***l Flanders (Robin Wright movie).
whoo hoo flask!
Yippee Flask!
the ha 5 I meant jm..
Congratulations Flask1 on fireworks! Hooray for you!
No, ha5 = derrogatory term
(jmKKK)
ooo ru -- *giggle* my mistake
Does everyoneknow I think, A charlie Brown Christmas is on tonight (for us Americans....) and us who like the holidays.
are you suggesting I am a member of the Klan!?!!? *indignant look*
It is? I watched it as a little girl, along with Rudolph, Frosty, etc.
lol.. well you did say whitey whitey whitey
I have had my quota treacle today red
abc at 8 pm... i will double check...
ha ha jmc!!!
just the babble clan :)
I have Charlie Brown's Christmas on tape *slightly embarassed*
oooh nice rbud, i love the program.
my neighbor used to work for Charles Schulz
i need a nap....but instead I am taking a break to deliver primo to the high school play....back later friends!
I love the music, rbud
Bye Trif
bye trif
Hey Babblers :)
how many got snow today?
what did he do for Charles Schulz?
bye, trif
hi aussie!
hi aussie!!!!!!!!!!
not me Red :)
Hi Aussie--shouldn't you be in bed?
me I got snow
just happy to be here, net's back up at home, don't have to sneak down to the library after all. :D
lol it would be scary if you got snow today aussie
Nah, not yet Scrabs... I got 59 to find yet...
yea! rbud!
did anyone shovel your walk, jmc?
why ?? I live in the U.K JMC :)
fortunately it fell in the odd sloppy manner so the sidewalks never got covered only the grass
duh! that's right I forget aussie
lol....
I am easily confused today
the chog spent five minutes helping me find my debit card!
How, JM?
oh no jmc.
I was meant to be going to a Smial meeting today, aussie, but not well enough :( Wanted to see Sally Kennett and Angie
Hello- I have 27 left. I experienced fireworks twice last week, but now I'm like "whatever." (Can ypou tell I was just talking to a 14 year old?
First ca6 please?
ok,any more e-book reader questions before i dive into this grid?
Hi kaplan
Ata !!
hey, can I get a clue for the 8? just realized I still don't have it.
Dive, Crossy.
my first ca 6 is a pl of a hoofed humped animal...
with lots of suggestions of where to look
sploosh!
first ca has a lot of vowels- now how to clue it?
think you answered 'em all, crossy. thanks!
ch**ber pots (for under the bed) + lemon*** drink, and plural
thats ch7 and 8 :)
ty aussie!
gosh I am usually faster at cluing!
ca6=unconscious with extra vowels in the first part
yw red :)
TY, Ata
ca + vowel + tumor ending, then pl
ca6 = ca + most common vowel + unconscious state (c***tose)
hi bubba
and thanks, Aussie!
TY, Bubba! My monkey would have found that word in several wks.
hi Bubba and cross.
Hi everyone.
yw rbud
Hi, All
hi kap
The ho words are rough
ho ho ho
Almost done with ch's
merry christmas Santa :)
St Nicholas Day tomorrow
santa is taking a break bbl
howdy red and everyone else who came in whilst i was holding forth on e-book readers;))
Hey Crossy !
aussie!;))
I'm a librarian, crossy, I still believe in real books. :)
I pre-ordered the Nook, and am waiting for it to come.
I love both kinds of book.... I also love Audio Books !
rbud, our library also is offering e-books loans now,and the reason for the e-book for my wife was a visual disability that prevented her from reading standard books
yaa for bubba!!
heh. rbud, i love books, but it would be really convenient when travelling to have them all in one and not have to carry 20 pounds of book to get through vacation ;)
imust admit, i cant take the screeen glare too much..
indeed, jes, both types of books have a place in my heart
i still read what my son now calls "dead tree " books at home, but when trvelling there is nothing finer that having 50 books at your finget tips
Oh gosh, 69 left and its becoming nea impossible to find anything.
everyone say hello to my mrs,;) ive passed on my babble addiction;))
she uses the handle "elegant"
I guess Osama is not a word.
hi mrs!
Hello Mrs Crosshair
Good Evening Elegant, lovely to see you again :)
neither is Yoda
Hello Elegant, and Good Enough
Hey GEnough :)
hello everyone. (: i see my Hubby is going on about readers again.
I know- I did try Yoda. You never know.
Hi elegant
Indeed he is...but its great to hear about stuff like that!
Hey Jilli :)
hullo, mrs crossy :)
Goodenough is a fellow transplant from Wordsplay.
i started the ereader convo, elegant... he was provoked :)
his 3rd favourite subject
He is a wonderful resource, Mrs Crosshair--he taught how to repair my shower tile, he has given computer advie, and now I have learned about e-readers.
Minveryork clued that ca6/24 brilliantly -- ca + L** the Lion + not pa.
I see we can now get the Kindle in Canada
I can't get the os's.
Hi Goodenough!
os6 is os + the blind burrower. Take off the last letter for os5.
os5/12 is os + actress Gretchen *** Kaplan the Magne
Let me guess bacon is his ultimate favorite subject. i don't know what I'd do without him.
Scrabs -- TODAY is St Nicholas Day in the Netherlands -- see my writeup.
We like him lots too Elegant....
well, I would say you, and bacon. Which is number 1 and which is number 2 ....
I don't know gretchen. I just got the os6. Not the 5.
bacon weaves especially Elegant!
os 5/12 is os plus a double agent minus the last letter
kap, didn't you see my clue just before Min's?
Looked back in the chog. I also tried osama and yoda
Better be me or he's in big trouble.
I got it, TY
Kap -- take off the last letter of the os6 for the os5.
be warned jilli, the kindle has a single proprietary file format via the amazon e-book site,so explore your options if you go e-reader hunting
Oh Elegant he does like to talk about his wonderful wife...
time to speak up crossy!
your my best friend red, just scored me 2 points;))
do5 please ?
Oh, I'm not hunting, crossy, and I'm a Consumer Reports fan anyway -- but thanks for the advice.
np jilli
The thing on wordsplay is you have to be fast, but if you don't get all of the obscure words it doesn't matter- you just have to get more than everyone else in 3 minutes. It's addictive because it goes so fast, but keeps reloading and reloading...
do5 please ?
do 5 is the museum guide -- do + yearning
do 5/16:a man who is the eldest or senior member of a group. Put the definition in the reverse dictionary.
What I like about Babble is that you do NOT have to be fast!
indeed jilli, the timed games i do not do well at anymore
Even my monkey can't get the yo4- I thought I went around and around
This doesn't give me carpal tunnel aches like wordsplay does
yo + Designated Hitter
yo + *ear Jo*n letter = cruel
The letter is cruel, I don't know what yo4 means
Oh- Hebrew letter alternate spelling.
yo 48 is beginning of star wars character plus chair.
ty scrabbs
thanks for the do5.... I finally got it !
isn't a museum guide a docent not a do5?
the yo def says it's the 10th letter of the Hebrew alphabet
you're right, ata -- silly me
That is correct. Alternate spelling.
phew! I've only just got used to the word docent :)
BBS--eating dinner
the other do -isn't that something like a matron?
Goodbye Scrabbler! I will see you later on in the chog
and i don't have the ho4,9- I HATE it when the 4's hang me up!
there are 2 other do words -- the longer one is alt sp for "Tom Do****"
An ho 4/9 is what a wherewolf does Kaplan the Magne
ho**'s Moving Castle
I have that one, and the plural. There seems to be one that I don't have
the other ho4/9 changes the last letter
An ho4/9 is plus of a question word Kaplan the Magne
thanks
Dinner. cu.
byeee kap.
Goodbye Kaplan the Magne! I will see you later maybe
ha5/16 please ??
I mean ha5/18 please ?
ha 5/18: the past tense of what horses eat Aussieme
ha5/18 -- past tense of dried grass
duh ! Thanks Minver.... Lovely to see you again :)
Thanks Jilli :)
min types faster than I do :(
Hello Aussieme! How are you? How many more words?
yw ;)
22 left Min....
I am almost done, so I will be here for clues if needed.
thanks Min... 18 to go now.
h's, L's, M's left now....
I finished earlier so can clue anything
Thanks to you too Jilli :)
Congratulations on finishing early jillibus! Way to go!
Thanks, min :)
the mrs and i are tag teaming this evil grid;))
Lucky you! Could NEVER get hubby to do this with me
there have been several evils ones lately
lol i was first and got the mrs hooked min;)
D's Done! 10 left

Back from dinner. 33 to go.
hi all
Hi Doren!
hi dorens
Hey Dorens
oh jilli. i did try babble expert yesterday- everything you said and more *swoon* I'm in love
re-hi scrabs
Isn't it great?
Hello Dorens! How are you doing? Welcome to the grid
So, Doren, get a netbook just for Babble Expert, use your Macs for everything el4
welcome to babble expert dorens;))
Hi Scrabbler! Welcome back to chog. How was dinner?
hi aussie, scrabs, minver. I am sitting in my son's house wiating for them to return from switzerland.. drove their dog back up from nj, made them dinner, and still waiting.
Dinner was good--salmon fillet, yogurt for dessert.
dorens,you are an angel,
what a wonderful greeting they'll be getting, doren!!!
yes scrabb i think i will probably do that... shameful, isn't it? to buy a notebook just for babble, when i have two lovely macs?
10 left
Did they take the kids, Doren?
9
buy one of those lil acer netbooks just for babble;))
Go Aussieme go!
course they did, they always deprive me of the pleasure of longterm babysitting. this is phoebe's fourth long airplane ride (and she's not even 3 1/2)
yaa for aussie!!
I have a little bitty Acer Aspire netbook--using it now. Cost me $379 from Tigerdirect.
acer? will look into it crossy, thanks. have to find me a cheap one
acer is the way to go then dorens
A's Abolished! 7 left
www.tigerdirect.com--great deals, Doren!
8
thats the one scrabbs
how tiny is itty bitty scrabbs? big enough to see the screen with aging eyes?
7
ok i will. that will be my birthday present to myself. the recumbent bike i ordered yesterdy will be my christmas present. being good to myself!
9 inch screen, works for me. My dream was a MacBook but too expensive for me.
I bought myself snowshoes and a Flip Digital Camcorder for Christmas.
you're better off this way scrab.. i have the macbook (was a present, a very nice present) and it won't use babble expert
Target has it here, and with free shipping: http://tinyurl.com/yhkyftf
I am very frugal and not self-indulgent.
hi une
was lurking and zeroed in on discussion of bargain! LOL
5 left
Hello Uneaixoise! How are you? Welcome to the grid!
hey, min
Uneeeeee !!
I look for bargains!
aussiemeeeee!!!
scrabbs, wife wants to know if there is a Mr. scrabbs?
this is what you folks are talking about, right?
thanks crossy, scrabb and une.. i look for bargains too, and am happy to be the beneficiary of your searces. they have them at target as low as 289.99.. will that one be good for me?
No Mr Scrabbler. No kids but my sister's oldest son has lived with me since he was 16 and he is 21 now.
bargains?
Acer Aspire One is what I have
yes dorens,if you want a cheap netbook, the acer is the way to go for headache free laptopping
like the ones on the Target site?
cool! I may have to indulge as well!
that is so cheap I may need a second laptop!
Slaps Crossy, liar. Sure blame me and say I wanted to know.
elegant is Mrs. Crossy?
wow, amazing reviews on Target site from customers!
hey, jmc :-)
howjado howjado
hi une back from a short break to cook
very excited... am buying the cheapest one, at 289., basically cause i don't know the dif between that and the 349 one
I have had no problems with mine, Une. I downloaded everything that I wanted--anti-virus, anti-spyware, Open Office, Firefox, Babble Expert.
probably ram dorens
Yes I am. Sometime I question my sanity on marrying him though. Glares at crossy.
good to know!
I heard there's no DVD slot on the little Acer, if that means anything to you.
Elegant, I am sure there are more plusses than minuses
would ram matter if this is basically only for running babble expert?
so any open know open office really well?
Hello Elegant! How are you doing?Welcome to the grid
dorens, LOL!
ram matters if you open more than a couple of windows
oh good jilli, if that's the main difference, it wouldn't matter...
Open Office = free competitor alternative to Microsoft Office
I know what it is -- I have it
better make sure, doren
ok, so if i need other windows, will go to other computer?
but I am having a problem and I was hoping someone could help
Is Open Office the one you get from Google Scrabbler
sure dorens
I haven't used it extensively, JM
my absence just now was courtesy of another coughing fit and now I have a headache
how about you crossy?
I went directly to the site to download it, Min
Hello Min. thanks for the welcome.
*hands jill a cough drop*
getting better or worse, jill?
looks like RAM's the same on both
I wish they would help!
that was a guess only
Is it open office.com? Is it user friendly too Scrabbler
about the same, scrabs
crossy is one of the true gentlemen in the chat.. unless someone brings up bacon
try warm brandy and milk -- that always works for me
it is user friendly
Yes, Min--detailed!
hi ruru
(that sounds awful jm)
hi jilli
When were the puppies born, Ruru?
Crossy isn't here right now, we're about to eat dinner.
RURU!! how beautiful and how thrilling!!!
Wednesday night scrabs
These ho's are killing me
I thought so too when my peruvian friend recommended it to me but it is quite nice
Thank you.. thank you thank you
sorry about that jilli, i've had a bad cough for a month now and it is debilitating.. at night i actually take the heavy hitter cough syrup with codeine or hydrocodone or whatever... it does help
I do not know how Microsoft Office can survive with everyone getting Open Office for free now.
You been pimping Scrabs?
oo ty elegant I will wait until later then
Yep, Ruru, ho's boost my income
ruru, cute little furballs
I just wish this cough would break up.
thank you dorens.. he is really cute I think
Doren + Jill, I have had a cough for almost 4 wks but am improving--some virus
glad it's going scrabbs... as long as i have this postnasal drip, i think mine will not leave me
wonder what's for dinner at crossies house
scrabs, there were no sniffles with this -- just achy and fatigue and no appetite -- you too?
looks like a Dylan, ruru :-)
oh i see that the cheap little asper ones will be available for shipping in two to four weeks... wonder if i can wait that long!!
Sweet, ruru -- what a sturdy little rear end!
that's what I thought jilli nice chunky rear legs
Not like a regular cold--has been in my larynx, trachea, upper bronchi, with a wheezy cough.
the po's are almost as bad as the ho's
yuck
Oh, Doren, they must be very popular!
I must finish with my ho's before I do the po's
po's and ho's what's next?
weird virus
weighs 2 and a half pounds! the one you have weighs five, right?
po 4/5 is po plus to be and po 6/24 is the past tense.
po4/5: Santa lives in the North Po** and then plural it
*must focus on ho's now*
po 4/5 is a survey. po 6/21 is po 4/5 + double vowels
po 7/32 is plural of a po 6/21 word Kaplan the Magne.
3 left... All LO words !
po5/12 is plural of the po 4/5 word Kaplan the Magne
Go Aussie!
I got all the po's
same clues for the no words. h instead of p

poor brandy
at least no one waves a hit under heroin addicts nose..... tuna sandwich. drool........
*substitutes corn crackers*
interesting that you should say that brandy
when I was nagging my husband to stop smoking his client the heroin addict said to me. . . .
that it was easier to quite heroin than smoking since smokes were so easy to get
I know exactly what he/she meant..... Nice warm round buns..... arrgghhhhhhh
http://www.gfmeals.com
unless you were talking about a different kind of bun [blush]
I like rice crackers -- and the rice cakes.
I like buns! *wicked mama grin*
i like corn crackers but not rice ones
[blush]
i don't think i've tried corn crackers.

ho6.30 - rude or bouncy girl, a bit like Fergie (our Prince Andrew's ex wife).

ho7 sounds like what one does when one takes the middle out of a tree trunk.
mkg, didn't you get ha + spanish cheer?
mkg - ha5/18 is perhaps the past tense of bringing in the sheaves, but not of corn.
sorry, I was clueing ha512
It wasn't corned beef, it was ha5/18. LOL

la words done
no la words, lol, mkg
now m words.....oops mean le words. but dont with all l words now jilli
Did you know that you only breathe through one nostril at a time? The nasal openings take it in turn to be in charge. It's about 7 minutes per nostril.
m words done
Jac, what's happening with your ear?
You can force breathing through both, but in the natural order of things, they take it in turns.
had no idea, jac -- hard to believe
jilli - when you go to bed, before you go to sleep (obviously!), try to notice it.
need os 5 plz?
hmmm, if the nostrils take turns, then why is it so uncomfortable when one side is blocked?
Hi nrkii - it's just hurting now.
I've already tried to notice it
nrkii - probably because when it's the turn for that side of the nose, it's blocked.
os + ***lie RIngwald
jilli - you can only really notice it when you're not doing anything else, which is why I suggested going to sleep time to check on it.
os6 is os + that blind underground animal, and remove the last letter for the os5
thats a mo** isnt it???????dont know the animal.
who is ringwald?
gee two clues and still stumped.............

Re the nostril thing - if you have a deviated or injured septum (cartilage that divides the nose) this may get skewed.

Can't remember the name of his journey through America show now, which was fascinating. He also starred in a few episodes of the excellent series 'Bones' whilst over there with you lot.
Well done, mkg.
Going to do kitchen clean-up before the flip
Can you come and do mine after you've done yours please, Jilli?
Ear's just popped again - pain and silence, and the sound of the rain outside is all I can hear right now, plus my tapping on the keyboard (which sounds quite loud at 5.09am).
Oh, the right ear (not the one with the pain in it|) just made a bubbling sound. Looks like I'm in for a nasty couple of days aurally.
This 'flu thing had better go away soon! I've got Christmas stuff to do and no one want me touching their food whilst I'm ill. I'm persona non grata at present. I also don't have the will or the energy to either clean or decorate the house.
I've bought almost all of my presents but haven't wrapped them yet, I've got the Christmas cards but haven't written them either, and there'll be no round robin newsletter this year, which some people might be glad about. And anyway, what would I say, given recent events?
me6/33 help please
I 'could' write a spoof letter here, but I think I'll save it for my blog.
nm- I found it
Donovan song - me6 Yellow.
Oh, too late!
ty Jac
DR - guess you found the verb form me7 also then?
yes thanks
I would imagine that the so4.6, 7.36 and 5/18 were hard for we in UK to find, since it's a girl's name to us and not a way of referring to a 2nd year student.
just popping in to see if my icon has changed
I'm going to try to sleep now, earache or not.
Good luck Jac! Hope you feel better soon
