You are so lying seain.
now, I am not saying, Jill, that you are even OLD enough to have been there (you weren't even a glimmer in your mother's eye)... but your parents were the right age. Do you remember any tales they might have told?
It was a good book, Dee -- based on interviews and first-hand accounts.
1955 yeah that's what I was going to ask if it was eye-witnesses and surviviors
Of course, we now have even more information, but what I noticed (after all the language changes) was that first-hand accounts were not consistent with the evidence found a few years ago.
very interesting hi dc
hi and nbt
We are doing a unit on research reading and writing with the 8ths graders I am doing the practicum with... and I GET TO TEACH on Thursday!!! *bounce bounce*
How does one get NBT in 3 mins?
stid, I never heard them discuss the Titanic.
awww wonderful stid
Or, I don't remember their doing so.
Fingers o'fire?
hi and wtg josh
That's cool stid - you're going to be the wonderfulest!
go stid.....teach those 8th grades a thing or two or several!
okay, thanks Jill... just thought I would ask.
oh, cool stid
stid teaches all the time so it will be a piece of cake

it's short on motown, and i plan to fix that. and no lesley gore!
I see
but wasn't that Cher?
oh yes lots of motown
nancy did it first
I didn't realize that
like CCR did Proud Mary before Ike and Tina, but lots forget the CCR version.
I just remember Boots
yeah, the one she's known for :)
that's the best one CCR but I thought it was the other way around
ccr 69 ike and tina 71
i like CCR's too
so, Marthe Reeves, and who else?
I'm not doubting you just that I thought ike and tina did it first
theirs was a bigger hit, CCR mostly got C&W play, i think
Supremes, Marvin Gay,

There is only one letter "o" right or have I gone so cross-eyed I can't see the other one?
only one O tile
one O, correct
Clues are up
but two C tiles.
YAY LICKETY!!!! (((hugs)))
NM it just took 3 mins for it to come up after I entered the word,
NBT
go,go west
ty, lickety
thank you monkeys
just hearing about the guy in the Prius with a jammed accelerator phoning 911. He must have had a cell phone handy. Here using a cell phone while driving is illegal now.
Peak time apparently. Lickety is the luvliest. I could never do this without.
YAY Lickety!!!
here as well Jill -- but not in emergencies.
ty josh
nbt
wtg nan strange j word that
He he, yeah even if it wasn't I'm not sure dialing 911 while my car was out of control would be my first choice of action JIlli
but if I were in that pickle I'd have a hard time -- my cell is in my purse, turned off
I hope they made an exception jilli
go nan go!
WTG nan
I'm thinking oh, take the keys out, shift into neutral?
I'm sure they would, west -- it was in California, I think
Jeesh, people and their phones *picking up cell to check email*
some cars won't let you do that, tfgrrl
then one loses power steering, which is hard, as it resists when present. and prius is keyless
yes, that's the thing to do, tfg
shift to neutral didn't work, tf... hitting the break didn't work either.
oh
mmmm, emergency brake? - Gosh seain no key????? I guess there was a good reason I bought a Hybrid, a Civic hybrid.
not a bad first half, but don't like the looks of the rest of it!
who was it whose dream car was a Ghia? There's one in the grid
I always thought there was something a bit off about the Prius.
it starts/stops with a push button, and the key is a proximity transponder
it starts/stops with a push button, and the key is a proximity transponer
I believe that Prius driver was told to use the emergency brake
I know I'm dense but was the Prius one that had been fixed?
That would totally suck to be in a car with accel stuck or no brakes, either way.
hi babblers! thought I would take a peek at the grid
i think i'm stuck
I'm sad for Toyota
hey robbie!
howdy, robbie
no, west, it had not been fixed as far as I know
hi robbie
hi robbie
we're a Honda household. we're both anti-toyota, irrationally
I can just see it, "On-star how can we assist you?' "Operator I'm trapped in my car doing 75 on the 110"
where are you josh how many to go?
ooh, sa7
i'm at 117 now after that one
I love my Corolla and it's a 2004 -- safe, I'm told
hi west,hi jilli,hi dc
they'll be equipping cars with ejection seats soon
hi stid
oops. the cat was on the ottoman.
love our 2003 Camry
Operator "No problem sir, I'm sure we can assist u" CRASHHHH. "Sir? HAve you taken your foot off the accelerator?
NBT in 7 minutes with minimum # of words - in order. most time spent on the pesky J.
only problem has been squirrels
hi nan and tfgrrl
well done melon.
wtg melon!
I think there is a car with an ejection seat as an option, but I'm not the car girl here.
helped a friend buy a tacoma years ago -great truck
lol west
our daughter has a 2008 Toyota minivan..can't remember the name and hers wasn't recalled either
Hey robbie
Did you say squirrels? Like in your car or hitting them?
I've heard of rodents chewing the wiring in cars.
hi melon wtg on NBT
have either of the 8's or the 9 been called? and if not, can i place bets that at least 2 of them are re's?
no tf they got under the hood and built a nest and chewed up all the wiring
Rats, I have to go out and back in to get the list
ah, sinatra covered bang bang same year as cher released it.
sari
Gosh West I hope ur car didn't catch on fire.
no it just went really really slow
8 & 9 are CRs
tx and now to bed {poof}
we had to have it towed
g'night melon
robbie, don't forget the alternate spelling of that
100 words done but tempted to look at the list now
hey liz!!!! ((((hugs))))
and anike! *happy mama smile*
oops...PB first time!
hi, liz :)
hi anike how was the trip?
hello, anike
still lagging here
ty joshua
alas, I need to go to sleep... so many things I need to attend to in the next few days.
just started..lol
really really slow, I'm tempted to laugh, but I'm sure at the time it wasn't funny. My friends found a dead mouse in their car once after several weeks of really bad smell
have you thought about cloning yourself stid?
duh, ty for cr8/9 lizmac
The trip was looong!! The nullabor just doesn't change and I'm over it. But the "good" news is that the next drive is to Darwin so a change of scenery.
I had that happen too, tfg -- it had made a nest in the air system -- phew!
past halfway, still two tiles untouched. back tomorrow for a sanity break. Or something. *hugs and choclit* see you-all again soon.
Hi people, at work so just sneaking a few. The aforesaid 8 & 9 are proper everyday words.
oh, dear!...I think the worst we found was an old rotten banana
g'night stid
the little suckers were back again the other day dragging a long woody root up inside
Night stid, happy dreams
thanks liz
bye stid
night stid
how did your son do in the race anike?
lees
our granddaughter was in Darwin last summer
West, have you considered turning this into IDK a comic or something - ur war against the squirhells?
already had that one liz lol
no lol
oops, PB for me, better do some work while I'm there!
He's sitting 15 in the championship which isn/t bad considering his bike is still standard - engine out now to get some "go fast" bits done.
there are cookies in the PB..you can join me!..lol
So did I West lol
There was a problem awhile back in Columbus, OH where a squirrel was attacking random people
that's right, it's Girl Scout Cookie time
our squirrels are very daring..last summer we were having a party and had a bowl of nuts on the coffee and one of them was ripping at the screen to get it
right column greyed, 35 left
coffee table*
Darwin is nice - like a big country town ( last time I was there)
Ooh Girls scout cookies! Let's see which word should I say?
how squirrelly of them.
eh, just go to the PB - it's the party room
I heard some of the cookies were recalled because they smelled funny
lol dc
The other 8, tfgrrl ?!
where was taht west - from which bakery?
*cleaning coffee off of laptop* smelled funny????
yum cookies....Godiva chocolate now has chocolate covered oreo cookies
anike an Aussie friend sent pictures of horses made of metal that the locals put out during some racing days do you know about it?
au7/8
tf the chat is just whizzing by lol
Liz I think ur forgetting who ur talking about, I don't usually get to the 8s until tomorrow night around 8pm
that's sounds interesting, metal horses?
seain just saw your question..Brownie something I believe
west, I do recall seeing something like that but not sure if it was Darwin. We have driven quite extensively thru outback Australia.
TY Josh, don't bother tfgrrl. Today will be your 8s & 9 day. Gotta go.
I'll see if I can find the horse link
maybe it's up near Darwin?
crashing here -- see you tomorrow :)
ah, lemon cookies from Little Brownie Bakers, which is our local baker. Will have to spread the word
I luv all the animals everyone has. Fat deaf white cat, and Robbie ur dogs are adorable!
nite nan
stop with the cookie talk -- I'm still on a diet!
g'night nan
night nan
bye nan
ty tfgrrl
did someone mention Godiva?
yes..they now have chocolate covered oreo's...lol
It's called the Tin Horse Highway in Kulin
here's the link
I though Oreo had choc-covered Oreos. The Godiva ones must be fantasmigorical though, and really really expensive.
jilli, i need a diet..lol
i don't care for oreos.
it won't come through
chocolate chip cookies are my favorite
I like oreos once in awhile and I want some now
I don't generally either, but choc-covered???
I prefer Hydrox. sadly, they only sell them sometimes now.
mine is simple -- no added sugar, half portions of meals, no booze, just clear soda water at happy hour and with meals.
I would eat doorknobs if they were chocolate covered
that's sensible, jilli
lol west
Kulin is in WA
20 lbs gone since late November (I was sick for about 10 days then)
I looked at it. Sometimes I think I live in the wrong country. Bush races, gymkhanas? cool
anike it looked fairly close to Darwin on the map the person who sent it is in Perth
I bet u could probably find a place that makes those, but they might melt in ur hands and not ur mouth
back... do the cr 8 & 9 come from 2nd col c or last col c... blind to it
20 lbs gone is great! but..not the being sick part jilli
the top c dee, totally normal word
Anike is that ur son in your icon pic?
ty very much... must need sustenance lol
got 'em
Yes tfg - old photo tho
totally normal words who'd have thought it
And josh is that a person flying outta that car in urs?
got em ty
I'll look it up west
that's a great picture anike
that's affirmative, tfgrrl - no idea the context or the photog
robbie, being sick is what got me started -- had no appetite and 10 lbs disappeared so I thought I might as well continue
I just noticed you're in Perth too
jilli sounds like you're being sensible about it
getting started is the hardest part of going on a diet
Bike looks wicked sharp Anike.
Dude flying out of a car, eek!
west, it's really not too hard this way
I cheat a little every once in a while with a half glass of wine or something
when you say no added sugar do you mean you cut out all sweets or you just don't put any in your coffee or tea?
TY tfg - he has a new superbike now - same colors but different paint job
lickety aided fireworks for the last 30 or so
congrat,s joshua
wtg josh
nbt her lol
it's really amazing how much sugar is in wine and liquor
Kulin is in south west of WA - the tin horse are for the local annual bush races
I wish I could have posted the link there were some very clever ones
no sugar in coffee or tea, no candies (not that I care that much about them anyway), but I allow myself 2 mini gingersnaps with tea at lunchtime.
gj dee was your last one the j?
there are some very good sugarless cookies out there
I haven't had gingersnaps in ages I love them with tea
just past half way, off to bed, goodnight all
no, last was the u in the last column
I used to have a really good lamb curry recipe that used gingersnaps
I can't deprive myself of those gingersnaps. The only way to stick to a diet is not to feel deprived IMHO.
bye flosey
good night flosey sleep well
I put gingersnaps in my baked beans
very true jilli
may be back in the morning
night flosey -- have a great time the next few days
that sounds good robbie
ooh robbie that sounds delish
how many words are there?
165
165 dalia
ty, westford
is flosey going to visit William?
not sure I have ever seen hi 6/21 before
no -- she and Mr flosey and another couple are going to a small resort north of here just for a couple of days to unwind
oh how nice
dee I'm always seeing new words
how lovely, jilli
do they need anyone to carry their bags?
you need unwinding, ruru?
and you could recommend their wine
good to know I'm not the only one west; hi ru!
I need to really unwind
I could be their personal sommelier
flosey's taking her laptop
glad she's got her priorities straight lol
that would be great fun... having one's one sommelier on vacation wow
(I am rentable)
hmm, a rent boy
good to know ru... will have to remember that
I do pools too
my brother and hubby want to become cabana boys at OBX lol
anyone find the other 8?
lol ruru..i've got a pool;-)
I haven't found any large words
homophones from the opposing Ls
do you know what it begins with dee?
a trio of them
I am finding this one tougher than the larger one... bad concentration, too
not yet west
I wish I had a pool (and could lose 30 years as well as 30 lbs)
whats a homophone
Hello
relax, ruru
hi herin
hi OSGD
lol jilli
hi herin
words that sound alike, but are spelled differently, ruru
aren't they words that sound the same but are spelled differently... hmmm cannot remember ru
aka homonyms
HI OSGMA. Awww Ruru cute pup.
aww good guess yay me
I thought homonyms are where grits come from...
(lol)
lol
A homophone is a word that is pronounced the same as another word but differs in meaning. The words may be spelled the same.
Hey back. Hello Robbie. and Volley and DC and Jill Have I missed anyone?
lol ruru..and cute puppy pic
me herin you missed me
howdy herin~
hi herin
desert
desert
howdy herin
i'd rather dessert
invalid invalid
that too
pair pear
Hi West and TF. Sorry I did miss you West.
I was hiding
I like west's invalid invalid - I'm going to use that in class.
I'd like extra credit please
well there you go. No hidding west
wish tf would clue one I don't have
definitely extra credit west
A homophone is a word that is pronounced the same as another word but differs in meaning. The words may be spelled the same, such as rose (flower) and rose (past tense of "rise"), or differently, such as carat, caret, and carrot, or to, two and too. Homophones that are spelled the same are also both homographs and homonyms. Homophones that are spelled differently are also called heterographs. The term "homophone" may also apply to units longer or shorter than words, such as phrases, letters or groups of letters that are pronounced the same as another phrase, letter or group of letters.
i got a b+ in my arabic class in part for correctly conjugating a verb in the past tense.
*hugs west* ty
yikes jilli !! but thanks
interesting... still not sure I totally understand the differentiations
wow, dc -- well done!
ty jilli
wow dc impressive
gj seain !! what was the verb?
I think it should be gayphone.. homo is so 1970's
Got all that from wikipedia
dead
wow that's great dc
well, died
we had to give an oral presentation on our families, and my father died decades ago.
lol ruru
died?
I have only an hour then I have to go do homework :(
I'll be sure to let the Lit./Grammar book editors know when they do the reedit
oh, and worked, as i talked about what he did for a living.
well, at least you have an hour
There's lots more on the subject in wiki -- some fun stuff
is this for a class DC?
I once said something peaked my curiosity when I should have said it was piqued. Never forgot it.
Yes I do. Just spent the first 30min (I had 1.5 hours) crying for my friends friends family that lost their son on Friday
gayphone *eye roll* I can just see running that past 6th graders. Homophone is bad enough. If you say it fast they don't notice.
how sad herin
oh herin so very sorry
huh. Lala recommends Sigur Rós because i'm listening to Fleet Foxes. I wonder how they make that link - i do like both.
Ru when you say gayphone I have this image of this very fashionable and fab-u-lous phone
I said to a french friend of mine.. take a toke of this joint.. he said you mean "Toque?"
me too herin..
he smoked woolen hats?
tfg, would it help to say "homo" means "the same as"
It is very sad. Didn't know the kid but can imagine what the family is going through. They need to do more education on suicide in young people at schools
Before or after all the riotous laughter?
oooh, Bloom has 5lb potatoes for 1.50 this week.
(amen to that)
the whole world needs to herin
That is a lot of tatas DC
they've gone up so much here
yeah, I know, tfg
gosh herin, sorry to hear it.
eh, 5lbs is gone very quickly, as i use them in precious few ways, each of which uses lbs of them
one dish takes a kilo or so
just paid 4.95 for 5 lbs of normal every day potatoes
tatas? That doesn't mean taters where I grew up.
tatas has a notedly different meaning here.
The ALSO foundation (GLBT) organisation was trying to get a campaign in schools about young people, suicide and sexuality but the nutjob religious and ''family'' organisations said it was a program to ''recruit''
How big is ur family seain? That you cook by the lb?
those are only bodacious ones tfgrrl
some look like them tf
there are two of us. that dish is a comfort dish that gets eaten in quantity, and the ingredients are breakfast links, water, potato, onion, and parsley.
when kids get depressed too many people tell them to 'just get over it' and they can't
*looking down* um, look "like" them? Do you live near a nuclear power plant west?
West I know.
no, why?
that goes for all ages west
you mean because our potatoes are so expensive?
yes robbie it does
We have the same problems trying to start LGBT programs at schools here.
My HS founded a LGBT group the year after i graduated
my cousin shot himself a few months ago..it was very sad
DC you need to post the potato recipe
I'm so disgusted with Face Book and other venues that bully kids into committing suicide
yes I agree west
No, because if your tatas look like taters, I mean I'm no authority, but I'm not sure that's normal. What with eyes and all.
My best friend in high school broke peoples faces for being bullied. I did a round of YAH
that is sad robbie he must have been in a lot of pain
not mine !!! lol
FB needs a boot in the arse with the stuff they get away with.
I'm sure a site can bully someone into something unless there was a serious problem before that. What is really frustrating is the lack of services available for kids who need them.
(glad I don't do facebook)
Esp. in the area of mental health, and it's the first to be cut in the budget
I tried it a couple of times ruru so I could keep up with the kids and grandkids..found out things I didn't want to know
FB and social networking sites allow the extension of bullying outside school hours. When I was at school you were bullied. You went home that was it
I like FB..it is bullying that is bad
I want to and work in the Mental health area in law
how old was your friends' son herin?
I use the telephone
... call me old fashioned...
err. 16. It was my friend of a friend
I had a student a 3-4 years ago we knew was disturbed and were trying to get her mom to get her help. Day after, she tried to kill herself, ended up in state hospital for a month and a half
hi old fashioned..lol
that is doubly sad
I remember writing letters
nothing wrong with old-fashioned but FB is good to catch up with old friends
if only I could find my stamps
so young herin
Post office feels the same way West.
I still have letters from a friend of mine in high school.
I know they said they're going to have billions in losses in the next 10 years
I still write some letters
recipe in my profile. quite simple, and very tasty
TF i think the post just sends bills these days. I don't know who this bill is but he has my money.
thanks seain
ty dc!
mucho junk mail here
Mostly I'd say that the point made before about adults needing to really listen to kids is true.
and it goes right into the recycle bin
DC my mums friend had a red beatle.
I write to the elders who have not yet discovered (and probably won't) email.
and the Golden Rule still applies
Good 4 u west - very green
cool, herin. our neighbor had an orange one.
tf my mom is 93 and she emails me all the time
98% of the mail arriving in my name is junk mail.
dang it I just drifted off to sleep sitting up right. for the love of all things pink and shiny I slept for 10 hours last night
my retired parents just began to email
we can put a little sticker in our mailbox saying No Junk Mail. It works.
*yawn* oh my it is sooo past my bedtime. I'm going to turn into an apricot or something
I am that but the poor mail carrier breaks his back carrying all those catalogues and then the recycle guys do the same
g'night tf
oh jilli wouldn't that be nice
can someone provide the stats on the J?
NIght TF (?)
Canada is just the best. Free health care, no junk mail.
you'd better get to bed before you have to get up then
my mom is anti-computer. She was shocked when i renewed her license plates online.
bye tf..don't turn into an apricot!
nite nite all happy day tomorrow for everyone
well, if things are addressed to us personally (like catalogues) they don't classify as junk mail

YAY anike!!!

I'm off - happy babbling everyone

I didn't know that Jilli
Ontaria has no premium, but doesn't cover optical, much dental, and certain optional medical procedures, the latter i think they coer part.

Hi Robbie - what a nice neighbourhood you are in

ty lyn
robbie, are you in Alexandria?
no..I'm in NY
ON covers most pharmacy, but there are copays for newer stuff.
Cn you buy additional private health cover for those sort of things Jilli? (like us)
Ach -- local TV news is showing an emaciated Golden Retriever recently rescued -- such a sweet boy -- all the fur shaved off his body because it was full of feces and urine.

If I ever meet ruru in person I don't care what his real name is, he'll be ruru
lol
Is it far way from your real name Ruru?
at last! NBT!
yep.. pretty far
I have a very common first name
are you going to tell us?
oh sure.. it's Paul
no - don't tell us - it would be too confusing
hello rurupaul
how did you dream up ruru?
My friend's dog was Rudy.. he was a wonderful dog. Her grandchild called him ruru..

HI sprite

hi Sprite!
hi dear babble friends
hello sprite!
good morning everybody
how cold is it there, Sprite? It's freezing here; enough is enough!
HI ruby
hi rubyfoo
hello lynxxxx and lady
we're having a cold spell here now
yup freezing here again as well, yesterday brought new snow. We are so ready for spring.
hi ruby
you too, jilli?
everybody is walking around saying "C'est pa chaud!", definitely an understatement, but the tulips soldier away, looking invincible (I hope)
jilli, shouldn't it be spring there, too?\
tulips are hardy creatures
Spring is my favorite time here, but it has usually strated by now...
jumping in
Later everyone must study and stuff
bye lady
bye lady, see you lter
we had spring all during the Olympics -- now it's chilly but the daffs and crocuses and snowdrops and hellbores and forsythia are in bloom -- and flowering plum trees -- but it's still too early for tulips
bye herin, happy homeworking
primroses are usually first by now, but just have leaves, o flowers yet
cool icon, jilli!
ratty
btw, Paralympics start on the 12th -- lots sold out already
no it is not. lollllll
same to you, sprite!
sorry, pb for me. Still sleepy from late nite watching stupid movies on TV
hi Ruby
wow that is good
oh yes, mauve dbl primulas are out, and pieris is in flower
ty ruby
lovely, it must be so beautiful where you live
we only have wild primroses, pale yellow, and they grow next to the daffs. They're the only yellow in the garden
what are pieris?
I think our primroses were planted by God (not Dr. God) to make sense of our previously-planted daffs
good man, God
helps a lot with the garden
ruby if you google pieris japonica, you will see examples of them.
thank you, I will look it up
also pieris floribunda, and others
must get dressed, will be afk on and off
Pieris -- a genus of seven species of shrubs in the family Ericaceae, native to mountain regions of eastern and southern Asia, eastern North America and Cuba. Known commonly as andromedas or fetterbushes, they are broad-leaved evergreen shrubs growing to 1-6 m tall. The leaves are spirally arranged, often appearing to be in whorls at the end of each shoot with bare stretches of shoot below; they are lanceolate-ovate, 2-10 cm long and 1-3.5 cm broad, leathery textured, and with an entire or serrated margin. The young leaves in spring are typically brightly coloured. The flowers are bell-shaped, 5-15 mm long, white or pink, and arranged in racemes 5-12 cm long. (from wikipedia) The new growth on some varieties is a brilliant red which gradually goes green as the season progresses. I love them!
see you later, sprite
jilli :D Informative as ever. I knew you were looking it up.
hello and I'm back
glad I didn't miss all of you sprite
hi west :)
thank you, jilli, now I'll find a picture!
hi west
hi sprite
glad to jumped in, sprite -- I posted that and it disappeared so I did it again!
hi ruby
hi again jilli
I got the 7 and 8 ty
uhoh the babble gremlin eating chat again.
*glad YOU jumped in... (time for bed, when the typos proliferate)
*hugs* jilli and sleep well
where were you, west?
I need to scroll down and see all the flower talk
I was doing my ablutions
they are so pretty and I see the floribunda will do well in the netherlands as well.
we have no flowers yet but have had some nice warming days
can I ask you guys to think of me today? We need to try and get a loan from the bank, financial crisis in the home...
we actually have a street called Japonica
good luck, sprite, I'll think of you while I'm doing the (dreaded) income tax!
japonica means from japan, I think
yes sprite good thoughts go with you
ouch yes that will be next
cree
oops, again, so sorry
not even a word, duh
BBL Stew has been bit down/off-colour the last few days so going to take him for a ride in the car! his most favorite thing
our daughter just got a reduction on her interest rate and they put her through paperwork hell
but now her mortgage is reduced and it was all worth it
aww lyn hope he feels better you are a good doggy mom
I was going to try it ruby lol
saved you the trouble, lol
add a letter, rubtyfoo
are you feeling better sprite I hope?
west, glad she made it through. we don't need much, so I hope the mortgage isn't coming into it at all except as monthly burden.
I did that, very dopey this AM, watched [endless] Indochine lat night - lovely clothes but too long
bye lyn, enjoy the ride and hug stew from me
a little, west, still on the antibiotica and feeling bad from them, lol. But last day today, and looking forward to tomorrow. Infection has been killed. All is well in the world...
so happy to hear it
ear infections are so painful
ruby are you vertically challenged?
i.e. are you short?
very, barely 5 feet!!
ear, all the hollow parts in the neighbourhood (don't know the name), jaw and left side of face. I looked a spectacle and it hurt no end.
fingers and toes crossed for you, sprite, and now I must head for bed -- early start (for me) tomorrow, and busy day
aww I"m taller than yoouuu
by the time I'm 80, the wind will carry me off!
I'm 5'2'' lol
giant?
thanks jilli, it will help. Have a grand day!
I used to be 5'1", but not lately
good night jilli have fun
hey, I'm 5'3½!
we'll have to put an anchor on you ruby
really tall!
and I haven't shrunk
wow jilli a titaness
my son's wife is taller than he is, about 6'
that's 'cause you're still young!
she must be statuesque
unfortunately, she doesn't stand up straight
well, I have shrunk in weight lately -- brag brag as I did earlier -- 20lbs less than in November (that's 9 kilos)
as I get shorter, my weight decreases, too. Not a good thing!
I had a cousin like that always tried to make herself look shorter but her mother had her take ballet and she was a different person
I look awful
I bet you don't, ruby
DIL could be gorgeous, but is such a strident feminist, that she doesn't try
take care of yourself, jilli!
jilli you must be svelte
no makeup, bad clothes, bad hair, etc.
oh, I do -- I'm still overweight, sprite
jilli is beautiful. I have a pic.
scrawny would be a better description!
earthy crunchy?
sprite's eyesight is defective ;-)
have you had your thyroid checked ruby?
not at all jilli
nope, my eyes are fine and you are beautiful, jilli. When I grow up, I wanna be like you.
no, but I don't have other hypothyroid symptoms, just metabolize fats very fast
I weighed 120 in college when I was dancing and doing sports
I wish I did. But can't have everything, right?
crossy hates insomnia;(
if only you could bottle it
*floating off to bed on a cloud of lovely words*
big hugs jilli
in my 40's I weighed about 96 but when I started to run, I gained about 6 lbs.
night all and *reluctant poof*
hi crossy, I bet. But we don't hate seeing you here, if that is any consolation
but isn't it nice to find friends to chat with crossy?
good night, sweet stay-up-lat jilli
it is indeed
hi crossy
so you put on muscle ruby
yup, which I've ow lost again
along with the n in now! lol
but you found it ruby lol
must say goodbye for now, off to therapist. Bye dears, have fun and behave in my absence.
how many words today??
we won't sprite lol
bye sprite, see you soon!
much luck at the bank
ps: love your icon, west
165, diann
Behave? When have we ever not behaved? Bye sprite, hello all.
165 diann
hello haz
hello haz
howdy haz,tc sprite
thanks sprite really need one of those
Hello! Another really cold, frosty night here, but the sun is shining now.
this will be the year without Spring
don't say that! I'll go crazy
France will have it the rest of us won't
It will happen eventually. It's bound to!
this is a good region for weather, better than the rest I think
hego promised!
that's what FMitch keeps promising
mild night here 3;39 am and its only -2c
well there you go that's 2 promises
yikes
crossy are you having daylight savings time this coming Sunday?
i think so:)) sure sigh of spring,or at least lower snow banks by the road;)
the sun will come out when it pleases
dst is one or two weeks different in Europe -- so stupid!
tomorrow, tomrrow
it's so early this year
it's more than a day away !!
3 weeks early westford
in NY state, where I used to live, we had black ice until April and virtually no spring
were you in upstate NY?
Binghamton, for many years
it's a lovely town but v bad weather
where are you?
what's that near? Syracuse? Rochester?
I'm in RI
between Syracuse and Scranton PA
I think your weather might be better because you're closer to the sea.....
I read once that Syracuse has more snow than any other place in the US
Rochester has more snow (farther west, "lake effect", but also more sunshine
yes it was Rochester
I don't like Syracuse much, except for the exteriour of its art museum
our daughter who hates the cold almost went to school in Rochester
the worst is evidently a small town, Oswego or Otsego, north of Syracuse which typically gets 10 feet!
she's basking in the CA sunshine now
my ex-husband taught there
there's a town up there somewhere called Mexico and they had so much snow
yes, funny idea for a town name (like Paris TX)
she graduated in 1989 would he have been there then?
no, he was already teaching at Rutgers by then with his second wife! lol
my friend's neighbor goes there every year to ice fish
I can't think of anything worse even though I love fishing!
you have to be a special kind of nut to ice fish I think
but they just love it
that was a fun 50+ words, mixed in with the chat, it felt easy
like welki from Canada! She loves it
bout this time of year im always tempted to hop in the car and just start driving south untill i can get rid of all the road salt,or the car falls apart, which ever occurs first
err..i ice fish westford....
you are a special kind of nut then lol
hahahah
do you have an ice shack?
well with the water frozen 8 or 9 months of the year,we have no choice lol
it must get so cold
we do westford, but sometimes we just fish off the back of the snowmobile
at least most winter sports keep you moving
I think welki has an rv out on the ice for occasional warmth
hehe, you do not stand still at -30 c
here's a question: do the fish bite?
but the ice huts are nice and comfy
I've never understood how the could build little fires on the ice without falling through
evidently!
they do..lol how else do we get the hook in thier mouth??
Brrr. All this talk of ice. Hi everyone.
we use camping stoves now ruby
hi sally
hi sally
we have ice on the fish pond/fountain again and it had all melted last week.....
don't they just go down deep where it's warm and stay there?
when i ice fish,it is in 80-110 feet of water westford
or do they come up to see all the silly people? lol
lol
oh you don't want to fall in then
definatly not!
before long we'll all be complaining about the heat
maybe they get hungry down there. Our goldfish don't eat all winter, just breed (!!!) and grow like crazy. Some sort of torporous state, I guess
the holes we drill are 2 feet around,id plug it like a cork;0
not me!
have to go now, it's been lovely chatting with you!!
tc ruby
Bye ruby, have a lovely day.
you, too, crossy
you too ruby as soon as you get Spring send some over here
if I can ever change my icon, I'll put flower photos in it
bye sally
bye westford!
that will be nice
crossy I copied your meatloaf recipe sounds really good
did you make it up?
it is westford, ive yet to have any leftover;0
recipie comes from mother in law
I like the idea of the stove top stuffing
yup,you can use the sage or cornbread kind
Yet again two nations divided by a common language "-) Crossy, I don't know the term stovetop stuffing here. We have dried sage and onion stuffing, the sort you would use for a chicken or turkey. Would that be the same do you think?
no no no sally, stovetop is much much nicer than our sage and onion paxo!!
yes it is sally, you may also have the paxxo brand stuffing over there
paxxo is stronger
We do have paxo, I don't buy it. OK, Ata, what would you use instead of stovetop then?
we use the paxo when we do saussge meat stuffing as it has a bite to it
Just found it via Google, and available in UK apparently.
I really don't know, stovetop is much lighter than our paxo, and it's more like bits of bread with seasoning than our texture
Crossy, I make my own sausagemeat stuffing, don't use a packet.
yes, you can get it in some random places. Budgens often stock it
mm sally, there is no true replacement for stovetop stuffing
It is called American Kraft turkey stove top stuffing: http://www.americansweets.co.uk/americ an-kraft-turkey-stove-top-stuffing-mix -304-p.asp
Your recipe sounds good, might try it.
we use it as a side dish
thats it sally!
just branded a little different
Interesting shop.
if you can get that one,yer good to go
it's sooooooo yummy
indeed
we often use it alone as a side instead of potatos or rice
ditto
and all the little chopping drudge work is done for you
That sounds totally different from our stuffing mixes in the UK! Will try this, crossy, so thanks for the recipe.
yup:)
let me know how it turns out for you:)
it's a completely differet thing sally
I'm thinking of getting a snack
im thinking of trying sleep again 4;14 now
stovetop I think after this convo!
lol ata
just don't go out and fish crossy
not at 4 am i wont lol
I have one last packet of the stuff I'm saving for desperate cravings
lol Ata. Well at least now you know where to buy it in the UK.
good to hear you don't sleep-fish
budgens, sally!
can you get it in a canister ata?
No Budgens up here. Not sure where the nearest is, will go and look.
gn ladies,im off to snore in the wifes ear again lol...poof
and my local farm shop stocks it. but best friend sends me over big tins of the stuff :)
it's great that way can make as much or as little as you want
no, we only seem to get the packets
yes, that's great westy, until you look in, consider, and just make the rest of the canister.
bye crossy!
that's true lol
if you can't get any for whatever reason, sally, let me know, I can always send you up some!
bye crossy sleep quietly
and I really could. that stuff is addictive
you're going to talk yourself into making some right now
Ok, found some stores about 30-40 miles away. Sadly not in places we visit, but I will consider a trip out! 30-40 miles doesn't sound much but our roads are very slow just here.
Ata, is that the brand you get, the Kraft brand?
phone any budgens before you go traipsing around the countryside, most seem to stock it, but some don't. like my local one. typical! and yep.
Oh I would phone, and thanks.
ata how is your sister's dog?
where is your local budgens then? trying to think 30-40 miles from you!
I just thought of the poor thing
Albrighton, Redditch, Newent.
running around like a mad thing! still with a heavy cast on though. so running at somewhat reduced amount. back to the vet on friday for a check-up / re-plaster
oh gosh. yes, not your normal days out!
that's good to hear his people must have been more traumatized than he was
We've been to Albrighton to the David Austen roses place but not likely to go again for some time. Redditch is not my idea of a day out!
What happened to your sister's dog Ata?
dogs (and cats) healing ability is amazing. I mean, she broke all the toes on 1 foot, and broke those leg bones too.
my gran used to loooove going to the David Austen place
Oh, lovely, just found an eight and subsequent nine all by myself.
vg sally
all this talk of animals lol
lol west, no it's because I was trying to make another word which wouldn't work and suddenly realised there was a longer alternative.
well good job just the same
bet ata's making stove top stuffing
Do you mak it like it sounds, just in a pan with some water?
nooooooo lol
yep. or you can microwave it, but it's not as nice
hi, I'm back for a bit
hello ata
WB, ruby. We're talking about food again as you can imagine.
hi again ruby I'm on my way out can't keep my eyes open
see you all soon
bye west
hi ruby!
husband and groceries arrived, all is put away and I can put off the paperwork a little bit more!
how did you get your name in there, ata,? Is it because you're famous?
name in where??
oh!
LOL
the grid
one day the full thing will be there
mine was in there once (no, not ruby)
I'm not very awake yet ....
how are ruby and max?
Mine was in there once, too.
ugh, my most detested veg ins in the grid too
I've been grooming Ruby a little every day as her coat is the most dense it's ever been this year, enough undercoat to knit a small dog.
Max is much better and sweet as ever
awwwwww
great veg clue, but that's a funny thing no to like
Mmm, haven't found any veg yet. *looking*
not*
slad-ish veg
disgusting stuff. most of my friends don't like it. they are sensible :D
we can't be talking about the same thing! What do you use for chicken soup, then?
salad-ish
Chicken?
chicken soup? chicken!
for chicken soup
btw, when is rhubarb (look-alike to dreaded veg) season?
Ah! Got the veg. Yummy veg.
foul stuff
Our rhubarb isn't ready yet, but we don't force it. Coming up nicely now though.
not if you remove the strings and eat the inner (pale) bits
About May-June I would think we would start pulling.
I want to plant some but have to find a place where the pups don't go.....
foul foul foul! I can't even be in the same room as the evil stuff! :P
my vegetable garden has been a perpetual disappointment.
plant mint. even I can grow that!
you are too funny, ata, come here and I will make you some great chicken soup. My son feels like that about dill and bananas
Can you fence it off with a little wire fence ruby?
we have mint, both regular and catmint
Dill and banana seems a funny combination.
not together, but he can't stand the smell of either, even cooked! Also won't eat raw tomatoes, only cooked. I guess we all have our food weirdnesses. The only thing I don't like is raw squid!
can't stand ce6. nor brussels sprouts, but I could eat those if I was starving. can't be near coffee, either, but that's a real allergy thing
and cooked salmon, except in cans
I have an allergy to kiwi fruit, which is usually easy to avoid except some restaurants try to decorate everything with it. Can't ever order a fresh fruit salad out, because even if they fish it out I react.
I've found a way of cooking brussels sprouts that even you might like: boil them to death, cut in half and carefully stripped of icky leaves, in salted water.
then drain and saute (also to death) in olive oil with a little butter and sliced garlic.
anything tastes good slathered in garlic! :D
Don't, don't, ever boil sprouts to death! They are lovely cooked al dente, tossed in a little butter.
Even my husband, who never ate one in his [long] previous life, likes them that way. It also works for cauliflower and brocolini (romanescu?)
You must have fresh, not tired brussels sprouts.
uhoh sprout wars
I'm afraid I like all my vegetable overcooked! bad nelly
who needs vitamins, anyway?
Stop making me laugh, ata. We like all our veg only just cooked, except potatoes. I do magic roast potatoes, crisp on the outside and gooey on the inside.
With sea salt on them.
Drool.
I'm sure Sally's food is better than mine! I used to be a good cook but have basically lost interest since we don't entertain so much now
Nah, we all cook and eat differently. I love eating other people's food. Come to think of it, I just love eating ...
Actually, if I don't cook it, everything tastes better to me
The foods I really love are unavailable here, e.g. sushi
T-bone steaks
Italian sausage
(that's NY Italian sausage)
Do you get back to the States sometimes, ruby, to stock up, or satisfy your cravings at least?
yes, when I go, I always put my little suitcase into a big, soft, empty one and stock up on American products, even things like aluminum foil
? Surely you can get foil in France?
and when visitors come, they always ask and bring OTC American drugs and the odd special thing, e.g. canned pumpkin
and when I visit my son in
TX, we pig out on Mexican food, sushi, barbeque and steaks
does anybody have either the j or the lonely u's?
I have the right hand U, un 6/21, t take something off a spool.
Two other Us from the left. One is the bear, and one relates to wee.
thank you sally, that was a big help
I have the J, thinking of a clue.
JU 5/22: JU + I know I can ***y on Ata for dog advice.
yay me!
Creep that I am.
ty ty
Good morning all.
and it's a fish. which I know about too
ata is the one who first diagnosed Max and knew exactly the meds the vet wd prescribe!
hi FM.
Hi FM
FM!!!! how are you today?
Just got back from the Doc's, don't think next Wed is going to work :( We may have to delay it at least another week :(
Do you all know that FM gave me my first fireworks the other day? She is my angel!
whenever, dear
awe ruby it was my pleasure.
he was manipulating my knee and now it is as sore as anything.
ouchie!
How was KWT Ata?
anybody puts a hand on my knee gets smacked!
fun, much tea was drunk
lol ruby
Whizzing in and out again - but wanted to say hello!
Good morning HAz, hows the decorating going?
hello! hello glittery one!
Kitchen wallpapering nearly completed, utility room will be started today. It's looking good!
Greased lightening is our Haz :)
But this morning I'm having a break and doing the business programme thing with a primary school.
visitor, brb
see you later after lunch
Bye ruby
I'm slow compared to the professionals, but it is satisfying to get it done.
Has F heard anything from the interviews yet Haz?
Not yet, she'll probably hear by the end of this week. She is more hopeful of the second one but still not convinced that she'd be good enough.
It's all so competitive, isn't it?
I'll let you know what transpires - meanwhile, I'd better get more civilised looking for the children. I've been doing housework in my jammies!
but you never get these things if you feel 110% confident
fingers crossed and do let us know! I would hate to have to interview, now, would be so incredibly nervous. Amm much moreused to being the one conducting the interview.
Very true Ata
I know, and she has a history of declaring that she's failed every exam she's ever sat, so we tend to wait to hear the result before we start worrying.
lol I always do that too
So, off I go, hopefully see you later. And get that knee better, FM!
I was very lucky once I had got established I was head hunted.
Byeee! *gone in a cloud of wallpaper paste*
Im working on it Haz, see you later.
Bye!
Ata have you started the grid yet and if so what is it like?
started it, but only pootling with it really. its ok so far ...
am trying to start writing my estuary essay, but of course today I seem to be having a post-flu day
Might give it a go later but have things to do this morning. Awe, you take care of yourself and keep warm and sunggled up.
Talking of things to do I had better get going. (((Ata)))
s
*hugs fm*
Back.
Good morning/day to all.
No one has been here for an hour!
Come out peoples!
Oh Hi scrabs, have just come back (again)
Hi Sally
This appears to be a tough grid. Words are not jumping out at me.
Hello Sally and Scrabbler
morning Scrabs
How are all the bunnies today.
and bojazz
hi Sally * guernsey
Love the green bunny
Hi Bo + GG
ah, GG - much easier
Tucker seems much better this morning. There were many poops in his litter box, he is full of energy and was eager for his morning salad. I am SO relieved!
I like GG. makes me feel like a horse
The other 3 bunnies are doing well. They are my cute kids.
So pleased scrabbler
or Gigi, from the movies
As any devoted pet owner, I get frantic when one of my bunnies is ill. I have been tense since Thursday.
If only i had Lesley Caron's looks.
What sort of animal is your icon, BJ?
before or after the worms visited?
Hi BR. Warming up yet in ND?
don't know, it's from a movie and i forget which one
hi BR
bad BR, bad
Yes. Snow is melting and some ground has appeared.
oh, is that the time - i have to get ready for my art class. Bye all.
Same here, BR. But there is a huge snow base on the XC + downhill trails so skiing continues. I will XC ski this afternoon.
bye, gigi
Bye GG

Hi Mudd

Hi Red.....anyone have a wee clue for me please?
How's today's grid?

Any longish words to turn me gray?
Tough, Mudd! I am up to 50 but see nothing else. Now I have to get ready for work. Bye kids.
if it's harder than yesterday, i don't stand a chance - lol
bye Scrabs
i have ce 6, 27, a food you put in a soup or salad and some like to put peanut butter on it
I'm not to 50 and already feel as if I'm struggling oh well ... that's why I'm here, to learn.

Hi Judi
Mornin" Judi
Hope spring is showing itself at some level with all of you, it has been a long winter.
great in NJ right now FM
We have crocuses and snow drops here. And right next to them are the remnants of three feet of snow.
snow yech, sun and blue skies yay!
the citrus trees are full of buds.. looking forward to the aroma of orange blossoms (-:
I know it is still very early in the year but I just get so excited when the mornings start getting lighter and things start growing.
*goes and sits down quietly in the corner*
almost makes winter worthwhile
so much nicer to wake up and want to get up instead of snuggling in for warmth!
oh don't I woke up at 4am this morning, am feeling v tired now :(
And the birds are getting active. And singing.
Have a coffee FM
nap time for FM.. 4am? wow
tried to get back to sleep but at 4.30 got up. Was having a nightmare :((
aw, sorry FM.. not a restful night.. :-(
Poor FM!
Did you Babble?
it's warm and rainy in chicago. great day for a nap
Hi GE
morning :)
lol hego, I did have babble up but had already finished the grid just watched the chat, drank tea and did some paperwork.
Sounds like it's time for a power nap!
belated congrats on your finish, FM!
Aloy that was yesterdays grid, haven't even started today!
oh, lol.. well, very belated congrats then!
yesterday was a looonnng one.
*grin*

It's 1 AM my time. I'll never see it. lol
urff heavens no, I wouldn't either at that time of the night.

sometimes i'm in my own little world

I babbled last night and was sleepy, I typed words in under the grid.. now I am pleasantly surprised to find words not listed as a c

good morning everyone!
Morning Mom
Hi, Mom!
{{FMitch}}, {{Judi}} hello
morning mom
{Good Enough} hello
How are you, Mom?
mornin babblers!
mornin, Eva
hi eva
{{Aloy}} hello. I am doing just fine. and you?
Hi Eva
Hi EvaN!
just dandy today, Mom.. but someone drank my coffee.. brb
oh time to get ready for the day. it's my day off and i'm having breakfast with my mommy friends! bbl
I would blame EvaN as she has just arrived :)
Bye GE
sounds delightful Good Enough, have a great time
so, i think i have managed to find a wedding dress that far outshines the wedding dress we have loved to poke fun at all this time...
so tell Eva
Oh wow wtg EvaN, when can we see a pic, dowe have to wait for the big day?
do*
behold, my fellow babblers: http://tinyurl.com/dfn98y
everyone is copying and pasting all at one time ...:)
Oh, shucks. I can't see tiny url's while I'm at work. Make it your icon, woman!
gosh, Eva
no worries, judy. i can share the real URL: http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikip edia/commons/a/aa/New_York_Wedding_dre ss.png
oh yea right the dress that show more than we need to see. are yo ubridesmaids going to be in green and orange net too??
LOL
you should have seen what Haz wrote when I sent her that pic a while ago!
Dress? What dress! Egad. I suppose that could work with a very long and very thick veil.
ahh, youve seen this one, FM?
oh yes
I sure she had plenty to say, FMitch
well, dang. i thought i was working with uncharted territory here...
I'm sure her eyes are still burning.
It's not a dress Judi, it more a big skirt with a couple of discerning points shall we say.
I had not seen it Eva
What was she thinking and what would the 2 sets of parents thought??? the mind just boggles.
I would hope that that's a photoshop goof and that some bride did not actually have such bad taste.
After some of the outfits I have seen on TV recently related to weddings I am willing to believe that it is a real pic.
maybe she just wanted to show off her wedding present from her hubby. I wouldn't raise my arms to high if I were her
OMG.. well, I guess she had to show off her enhancements that cost mega $$
lol Mom
Stacey and Clinton should have been there to throw a burlap sack over her and stuff her into a van.
who is Stacey and Clinton, Judi?
stacey + clinton are the hosts of What Not To Wear
Back again. Saw the dress. Yikes!
oh, I have not seen that show.
HGTV show, Mom.
Hi Hego
Have seen it before. Think it is real.
Hi Mom
the gown police should have arrested her
You gotta wonder what man would even appear in public with that.
Can you imagine the poor clergy person who had to stand between 'those' while he read vows???
lol Judi
The mind boggles it really does!
:) Judi
this just in, actor Corey Haim found dead...
It wasn't a church, I can tell you that for sure.
who, Eva?
Ah, well. That explains a lot, Hego.
My dad would have thrown a fit, not that I would wear something like that.
as would my mom and my sweetie
who knows that girl might be the next star in the movie in Judi's icon
Corey Haim -- one of "the coreys" from all the 80s movies i grew up on...
the name strikes a bell, but can't place Corey Haim..
LOL Mom!
Haim's picture is up on MSN, along with the news release.
Mom, it looks just like her!
OK am going to give in and have a nap, TTFN all and Happy Babbling.
have a good night, free of nightmares, FMitch
Good nap FM. Later.
hope you have a wonderful nap, FM... sending a sprinkle of sweet dreams dust to hover over you..
maybe her name is "Debbie"
Pulp fiction title: "She Makes Marriage a Sin".
this grid is diabolical. Not that i've been paying that much attention to it.
I agree, Hego. I am having a hard time with it
and being distracted by EvaN's dress didn't help.
Maybe if we focus. Hmmm....
EvaN, what would your fiance say if you wanted to wear a dress like that?
Good morning eyeryone
Hi Bob
hi MrB
Good morning Mr. Bob
anybody got the j?
not me, Hego but will help you look
ju + cousins are your ***atives
Yes, hego. It's a ju5.
thank you Aloy and Judi
wasn't that Superman's Krypton name or something?
Hey, is that Superman's dad? No I guess not.
lol Aloy.
maybe, hego
i think it was Kal-el
ty Aloy
Dad was Jor-el
when I saw it, I thought of Superman.. ah, ok..
Ha! I was going to give the Superman's father clue, but I thought I would just get blank stares.
not from this oldster, Judi.. lol
Babbler's all know weird stuff.
i often want to give what i think are perfect clues, until i realize they are inside jokes with dear fiance or our friends...heh
we are proud to be weird word nerds
yup!
Hey my real name is in here!
*beaming* I'm so proud of our nerdiness!

un6=the film is out of the projector
You're welcome!
hi haz
Hello! I'm kind of in silent observation mode at the minute.
i have cr8 and 9, what's the other 8 ?
au8 - being a plural.
au but dont have it - help on the cr
woohoo, thanks haz, now only one more 7, too!
all cr9 of our God and king
cr8 and cr9 - as written about by James Herriot.
cr9 great and small
dont know who that is
so the 7's are au, nu, tu x 2, and ?
cr8 from the black lagoon
He wrote books about veterinary matters in 1930s England. He took the title from the first line of a hymn.
hi everyone!, clue for the j? plz?
not seeing the au 8
*gasp* everyone should know James Herriot
rhymes with superman's father lbd
sorry
au8 - sounds like but is not spelled the same as the all knowing ones from Delphi.
superman had a father?
of course superman had a father... a biological one AND an adoptive one!
yes on Krypton
great clue on the au's - thanks
on his home planet -- not be confused with Mr. Kent
Let nobody say that babble is not educational.
so the 7's are au, nu, tu x 2, and ?
hi ata
It's Lois Lane who had Father issues
lets now forget poor Jimmy
I meant not - see this is my problem - typos
I thought the first line of that hymn was all things bright and beautiful
(thinks Jimmy and Superman had a side relationship)
alllll cr9 great and small .....
*wink wink*
no i think you were tight we should forget jimmy olsen now
Okay, second line, unless it was a really wide hymnal which accomodated more than one line at once.
okie dokie. got superman's father. didn't know it was spelled with a U...tx
all things wise and wonderful
it wasn't it was spelled with an o
it wasn't spelled with a U but the clue works
ahhh, that's why i couldn't see it. (not really, but that's my story and i'm sticking with it! lol)
SO, the 7's are au, nu, tu x 2, and ?
We're getting very fussy about clues. If you'd been around in the days of hoops and snakes and chairs, you'd have known real pain.
ROFL
snakes?
Still looking for the other 7..
*stands on chair and looks around*
ahhh yes, i remember describing letters! that was a pain.
Exactly, jmc. Snakes. (s)
no-one has said hi *sulks*
oooh! *gets off the h*
It was a way of spelling out a word without spelling out a word. Hockey sticks for j that kind of thing.
how about the lone e? bottom of 2nd column?
they still get used some
that is not true, ata, i saw at least one person say hi to you
Hello Ata! (please say hello to Ata, she's not a pleasant sulker)
HELLO ATA :)

hi crossy, hi fm
but then again I think Haz\ is a liability too
howdy ibd
Hey lbd, loving the latest icon :)
i have four sa5s... none of them look appealingly extendable...
Yes, I just drag you all down, don't I?
Had a wonderful time with granddaughter yesterday. She is about 32 months old.She said 'I'm going to call you your proper name' I said OK? She said I am going to call you Mum!! Because that is what my daughter calls me so she thought that was my proper name!!!
she's a bad influence
*Beaming*
awe Deeha
it is treason to speak such ill of the Queen of the World
*strolls by chog, sees Ata dare to call someone else a bad influence and trips over her own feet, choking...*
ROFL EvaN
That's told her, EvaN!
but she's striving to become a bad influence! I complimented her!
guess it takes one to know one...
Did you get that other sa7, hurshy? You might have missed it due to the shock of seeing me declared a bad influence and a liability all on the one day.
absolutely!
i saw that you clued it but i cannot figure out which of my 5's to extend and how... perhaps it is a 5 i don't have yet
sa5/14
i have two of those...
use the 2nd one hursh
it's ok, though, i had got 90%, so i got the list, so i'll figure it out when i get to S

aha
ATA is calling ME a showoff? i guess this is her pot-kettle day
Show off? This coming from one who knows long scientific words?
I can be smug (I rented 50ps worth from Ata) I have finished.
When did her smug go on sale?
I was wondering that
LOL Hursh It didn't I took a bit and put some moeny in the honesty box.
I think I charge more than that

I've had a couple of ordinary military copers this week but no Chinnoks :(
Run out quickly, Ata, and put stones to point Canterbury -----------> that way.

last night i was watching some top gear, and then as i slept, i had a dream that hammond was driving me to a dinner party at jeremy's house, and when we arrived and got out of the car, he wasn't just short, he was a midget - like 3 feet tall.
nope. PUma, I think
Military copers? The strong, silent, dependable types?
FM is clearly getting stones ready for any wayward Chinook.
the nearest airfield is *miles* away from here, civilian or military
or 6?
that thar is an or6 hog
or6 - American for stubborn
thank you.. (hangs head)
You're welcome.
I figured that one out - Im from US - hmmmm
sc6?
Good question, hurshy. I'm looking for it.
sc6/21? that one?
thinks of your eye for sc6
yes, that's the only one, ata
that was my first word *smug*
See what I mean?
my typing is getting bad - must take a break
*drowns undr Atas sugness*
Oddly enough, it was my first word too. *double smugness*
*and my inept typing skills*
yay Jac!
Hey Jacs!
I could role play and ask for a clue, but I won't. I've got it now.

Think of MS and what the S stands for, but end with a different vowel.
milestone?
sado-masichism?
Hello, Dachef!
do, de done.
hello! Love saying 'sado-masichism in the chat and watching it go quiet.
but it waould have to be mado-sasichism
We've all hit that panic button that gets us through to the police.
bugger. bye.
He's trying to con us into thinking he's an author. We know better.
We'll keep him talking to give the police a chance to track him down.
see? This is what happens when usay 'sado-masichism' in the chog. Straight away people try to get rid of you. Sigh.
I think he's vanished ...
need to take a break from babble and get some more work done. bbl
Bye jmb.
So, Dachef, how are you?
fine - enjoying the sunshine. I assume its raining back home?
*puts on Leather chaps.. so what's the big deal about s & m?*
OMG - I have a student who cannot tell time - in high school!
I don't know about Wales, but it's been sunshine all the way for a few days here. But minus temperatures at nights means heavy frost.
I have two pair of leather chaps, ruru - can lend one to you
ruru - dont say it. I did and I got ostracized by the babble ladies - not a pleasant sight. A bit like being chased by a group of angry nuns.
updated photo of my niece & nephew!
Wesley is really growing up!
they tend to do that, somehow, don't they?
co8uld someone think of an easier to understand clue for the au 7?
collared shirts always make little boys look older anyway.
I know! But he's not a baby any more, he's a real little boy.
au7 - ends like the icy thing that hangs down (last four letters)
this is true.
ty haz
that was it.. thank you haz
You're welcome.
morning
Hello, hootowl.
it's so confusing the way so many letter groupings are on both sides of the grid
Okay, time I was getting back to my kitchen duties. Have a nice day and enjoy the grid (it's a bit of a stinker towards the end) Bye!
bye dear!
bye haz- and yes, down to 9 and it is a stinker!
Hi all. How many words are there? My 2-week trial is up...
165
Oh, I guess I'm done! Thanks hootowl!
Anyone need a clue before I get to work?
good morning/afternoon, everyone :)

:D
Did I mention that we spent a day in Heriot country last fall ?-- beautiful countryside.
Isn't everything outside of London beautiful?
Haven't been to too many parts of England -- but our week in Yorkshire was wonderful -- fell in love with the place
*now if we could only get them to drive on the right side of the road, it would be perfect!
but they are on the right side
no -- they drive on the left side
I guess that's why we spend more time in other parts of Europe -- driving is more comfortable
well it's right for them :D
England is the only place they do that?
Yes -- well they still drive stick shifts too
having driven in both countries, I can honestly say that the British way is safer. For one, there is no conflicting green/red lights for pedestrians when you turn left in the UK, and secondly, in the US EVERY single driver is completely nuts.
that's cos we actually have to have lessons before driving :P
as far as lights go, I don't think it makes any difference -- everything is just the opposite
I beg to differ with that! I am not nuts! But Memphis is well-known for crazy drivers!
It certainly requires a lot more concentration for us
the traffic light system is pretty different in the US compared to the UK
I don't know that they understand the word "lessons"
It just amuses me that the Brits seem to have to buck the world
err no, you lot bucked our lead :P
cyber - I think you'll find that we were, erm, sort of, first? An
yeah - that's probably it. But were they driving carts on the left even then?
agreed ata and dachef -- but you are still in the minority
absolutely
and proud of ittoo!
doesn't mean it's wrong!
nope
however it is a moot point as I don't think anyone is going to change over -- was just commenting on the fact that as a North American, I feel more comfortable driving in France, Italy or Germany than I do in England and Scotland
I love driving in the US
Out of the cities and interstates it is great!
Except for the little towns whose only income is traffic fines.
me too - its like a roller coaster. Go to the shops to get some milk and theres a 50/50 chance you'll get back in one piece.
it's so much quieter than driving in the UK. Give me LA over London any day
I must say our most hair raising experience was driving through Place d'Etoile at rush hour.
but to be fair, I suppose I've only really driven in LA. THe interstate is a lottery here.
lol the first time I ever drove in the US was on the I5 in Seattle. That was amusing.
I cn't believe LA traffic is that good. It has quite a rep here. Did you go thru at midnight?
I15 is a piece of cake compared to LA
driving in boston is an experience
THe first time I went on the interstate, I had to change my trousers. Twice.
driven in LA at all random hours of the day. It's still less busy than London!
This is not getting me my last 3 words! Anyone have the sa7,6 & 5.
I find that very hard to believe Ata
ata - you're right, its not as busy. Much faster and much scarier tho.
well, I can only tell you what I've experienced
yes, scarier - too many lanes and turn-offs! But I'd still prefer to drive there everyday than London
wish I could help hoot but dont have them either
ok - well BF went for boxes so we can pack for moving on the 26th. BBl - have fun
really? wow! Personally, give me London traffic any day!!!
tx mom
And timing when you drive is important too
Fireworks!
I have to drive 30 miles before i even get a stoplight.
It's probably drivers like me, on the interstates that you guys hate....
Need clues?
clue for nu7
I love your interstates, sooo easy to drive on. I get to drive in Canterbury with roundabouts, 1 way systems, traffic lights, 3 lanes merging into 1 at random intervals, speed limits of 60mph down tiny country lanes etc etc!
where the baby sleeps, mom
thanks - thought I tried that - must have typo'd - thats the way my day is going
np
stats for J word?
ju5/22
thanks, ata, will look
Down to last two - sa 7/40 and sc 6/21 any clues please
I can sympathise with that, ata --- our parking space in York was through a narrow little carriage way into a private parking area behind some shops and the car the rental agency substituded for the one we had ordered was, I am sure, the larges model of Volvo made over there. The result was we had to keep driving around the block so we could make a right hand turn into the area -- the car wouldn't fit through on one go for a left turn!
sc6/21 - the white of your eyes
Hello, all.
VI!!!!11111!!!
Hey, Ataaaaaa! how are you?
LOL sounds familiar, Cnan. Imagine that kind of stuff every day just to get around Canterbury!
after that for years, suddenly your roads become just so wide and huge and nice!
Thanks for that Vicuna - now any clues for my last one sa 7/40
I wish we had made it to Canterbury -- another area I would love to see. Maybe on another trip if I can get the old boy moving in that direction ;)
sa7/70 - describes a faun-like deity
Canterbury is utterly gorgeous. I love it immensely and love love love living here. It's like seeing thousands of years of history as you wander around
We have nice roads, but not a lot of nice visible history.
nice roads are good! canterbury roads thead in and out of roman city walls lol
*thread
My town celebrates its tricentennial next year, and we're all pleased with ourselves. =D
now I want to go visit the British Isles. Hubby wanted to hike in the Cotswolds this summer but I said it'd be too expensive
You're both right, bichon.
Cotswolds are *great*. I woudl say that though. That's where I come from
sa 6/21?
Thanks Vicuna and finished!
Yay for gran!
I hope to see them before I'm too old to apreciate them
the pound is at it's lowest price in years, bichon
sa6/21 - rhymes with a wreath for a Roman victor
the Cotswolds are gorgeous. I'd give you free tours!
and so is the euro
ty vic
You're welcome.
Now I'm sorry I said no to hubby
Maybe it's not too late.
summer is expensive. august / september is just as lovely, and less busy
http://www.nationaltrail.co.uk/Cotswol d/
We have committments in later summer. We'd have to go in July, high season
the Cotswolds is full of Americans in July :P
asci
slaps one's hand
We have so many things to do in June, Aug & Sept. Hubby's on academic calendar and I go out to visit grandkids in CA in June and August. Last July we hiked in Noreay. Very few Americans there
jan and feb is strangely nice too in the cotswolds, as long as it's crisp and wintery
Hi Ata, bichon, vicuna, cybernan. Anyone got clue for the sc6,21 please?
actually the whole year is nice lol, apart from maybe oct - nov - dec
sc6/21 - the white of your eyes
hi hydra!
Hello, hydra.
October is a great time for hiking around here [in New England]
I think that's a word I don't know, Vicuna. I'm off to Google...
sc***otic ring + indef article (biology clue LOL)
Got it! Many thanks. I hadn't seen that 'a'.
multiple ****osis + first vowel
ce 6/27
If only soldiers were warned "Don't shoot til you see their sc6."
ce6/27 - veggie often paired with carrot sticks
ew ew ew ew ew
*!* ta da *!* - thanks for the help :)
Yay for cybernan!
whoo hoo cyber
Hello, jmc.
hi jmc
anyone want clues before I leave?
None for me, thanks.
see you tomorrow :)
i am just dabbling between tasks as work so no ty
what were you ewing about ata?
hello everybody
ata hates the c vegetable
Hello, rubyfoo.
hello vicuna
but I'll bet she would like my chicken soup!
Mmmm... chicken soup...
as long as I can't taste the ce stuff!
I'd be very careful to make it invisible!
hi ruby
hi jmc
*seriously wants to know why the cafeteria cuts the "handle" off of their bananas* how am i supposed to open it??
that seems a sorta excessive reaction to a word ata
how do you feel about turnips, ata?
Poor EvaN. Life is so difficult sometimes!
they think they are opening it for you eva
mmmmmm turnips
I like turnips!
the hardier i try, the mushier my nana gets!
I've taught my husband to eat all the vegetables that he hated before
rutabaga?
I love root veggies of all sorts.
i heart me some parsnips
I also put parsnips in the soup, but they are hard to find here
we don't have rutabaga here LOL
Hi All
Roasted, mashed, in soup... it's all good.
in some parts of the US they call them Swedes!
Hello, hego.
hello hego
we're talking about vegetables
Into root veggies today, I see.
Are you okay, Ruby?
mmmm..... banana with peanut butter...
Have you breached the bananas defenses yet?
eating pb & j as we speak.
I think we've reached a detente and if it holds, everything will be much better.
exactly. we have swede. *prim*
do you make your own jam eva?
suck it out the end eva
ew!
Sigh. It's nice to see all the new arrivals, but lunch is finished, tea's gone luke, the words are coming slowly, and I'd better get back to work soon.
what? it's just mash banana then
when i still ate sugar i made my own jam
I like bananas fried in butter, dowsed in orange juice, sugar and grand marnier and set on fire!
now i just make pickles and freeze stuff
what kind of pickles?
I like making chutney.
one very nice thing here is pre-cooked beets. Then I just slice them with a little bit of turnip and garlic and add a sweet brine
and wait a month
phone call, back now.
and onions (sorry)
kosher, bread/n/butter, and i want to make bread'n'butter jalapenos but just haven't had time, jalapenos and energy all at the same time
oh boy, jmc!
haven't made chutney since my hubby died (17 years)
pb & j all over my mouse lol
we made a huge batch of peach chutney
*hands hego a wetnap*
I've never had peach chutney, just mango
how do you use it jmc
Mmmm... I made apricot chutney this year.
or a new mouse
ty
ooh
we went to a pick your own peach place and then cooked away
how do you use what hego? the wetnap? like a samp cloth
when I had more energy, I used to do really elaborate indian cooking, but now it's just too many hours in the kitchen. Even used to make fresh cheese and my own puris
how do you use chutney?
on cold meats like pork or lamb
oooh? it is a sweet spicy relish so with meat is good
sounds yum
do you know how to make paneer? I would love to konw that
and of course on the side with curries and birianis
You can use it as a side dish, especially with Indian food, or with meats, you can mix it with cottage cheese for a snack, you can use it as a spread with crackers or bread...
is that fresh cheese?
i sometimes add chutney to my leftover thanksgiving turkey sandwich
Yup, excellent in sandwiches...
it is the indian cheese in Saag (or Palaak) Paneer
I wonder if paneer is like the fresh cheese they sell here called faiselle
i think my sister and I will have to make cutney this summer
my Indian friends told me to substitute tofu . . . .but it is not the same
I need to borrow somebody's children to pick stuff in June and again in August!
I think it's near enough, ruby
Last year I did green tomato and mint chutney. It was a little weird, but my dad *loved* it and ate most of it single-mouthedly.
faiselle is like paneer?
I think a better substitute is whole-milk yoghurt hung up in cheesecloth for a day or two
used to make a chutney with friends.. recipe from "the store" cookbook and it had mangos, melon, peaches, pears, walnuts...the kitchen sink and it was sublime
to get rid of the whey
one year I had so many green cherry tomatoes at the end of the season i made bushels of green tomato relish
Hello, Doren.
Dorens: happy to see you. Now on the 3rd JSF book, Eating Animals
took hours but i could bear throwing them out and i had to pick them because a hard frost was coming
I used to make tomato chutney and one year did the same with green tomatoes
mmmmm eating animals
hi doren
Yep, that's exactly why I did mine. Early frost predicted.
Yum animals
by the time I finish the book, I may give them up....
that would just make greek yogurt ruby
one of his characters, who is also a vegetarian, describes his being sad (he's a little boy) as having heavy boots.
yum Greek yogurt.
Hmm... with all this talk of food, maybe lunch shouldn't be finished quite yet.
do you make tzatzki [sp?] with Greek yoghurt. Also wonderful with cold lamb
i have killed and dressed enough animals i am unlikely to change my willingness to eat them
good to hear that ruby. i saw him on tv discussing the book, but haven't read it yet
Ruby you're so internaional!
what was he like on television?
Hi Dorens
not sure what tzatzki is
that's just because I used to be a faculty wife in a previous life and learned to cook by making exotic entire menus
hi j, hego, vi and all. He was very interesting and amiable... just a short interview on The Daily Show
tzaziki - yoghurt and cucumber and garlic
evening all
it's greek yoghurt with grated cucumber, onion, gaarlic, parsley and salt and a little cumin
i just finished looking that up -- think of that as raita
hiya Sprite!
hi sprite... how've you been?
hi sprite
hello sprite
and then there is indian raita, similar ingredients, and it is in the grid ALL the time
quite ill but recovering now. How bout you?
you're right, I had forgotten raita and have just transposed it into more elaborate tzatziki *blushing*
oh, haha, jmc mentioned the raita also. gm, gm
Hello, sprite. Recovering is good.
glad you're recovering sprite... i've been fine
brain is getting old!
glad yu are recovering, sprite, spring will help and hego prob=mised that it will come.....
but raita is not accepted by enable grrr
typing is deteriorating, another bad sign
am confident about spring
you're kidding
enable is very partial. But raita isn't in today's grid either.
neither is ancho, but nacho is... go figure
*gives sprite a soft knitted comforter to wrap around her in the chog*
Almost here, Ruby!
enable's food choices are very odd - doesn't accept shiso or ramen
oh jmc that is so sweet and cuddly. Thanks!
taco but not ramen
oh my, the foods that i know about and see in the grid but are not accepted by enable would fill a huge dining room table
but yesterday accepted puissant!!!
I hope you like teh pale yellow color sprite
yup
i sure do, jmc
sounds like a plan - we could do a babble pot luck with dishes from around the world!
aha! a green stalky vegetable IS here today
and a cleared butter
but then it accepts french salts
a babble pot luck would be delicious.. many of us appear to be adventerous and good cooks
Oooo ty Dorens!
and plural
shhh dorens ata freaks out every time that veggie is mentioned!
it's a really fun idea
ty sprite for the butter
yvw
first we have to have a babble meet up!
I am doing my part as I am going to Oregon and Wash state in August
I missed the butter, ty
And South Africa in July
why not come to north jersey? it's closer
sigh i really must go do some work
we could do an european meet up near the Canal.
I may be going to London at the end of May if I can get away from here
i'm going to be in napa in august.. will meet ruru and anyone else who can be around
I could do that too dorens! I love to travel
gotta go bbl
I would love to do a european meet up... london, paris, amsterdam... love them all
bye jmc
Apparently the ju5 is a "food fish."
good I love fish in the grid. It is tradition.
from which ocean? lol
...while we're on the food topic.
thanks vic.. don't have that yet but i'm on its trail
if you get to Paris, I'm only 4 hrs away by train
bye jmc
Found in warm seas, sez the question mark'd definition.
sounds a little like superman's father
all the things we learn from babble!
but ju
I'll go anywhere at anytime. Just for the record.
won't be this year ruby.. i already have three weeks of vacation planned. but will one of these days
excellent, dorens!
ty vic and ruby. that clue did it
sprite, when I've gone to the Netherlands, my favorite thing to eat, besides the herring, is rijstafel!
must leave you all, very early bedtime for me. Have fun!
Dorens, look out, I can be at your house un an hour. lol
gd nite, sprite
rijsttafel? Lol that is chinese food. Lovely!
Nite, Sprite.
I'd better mosey along, too. Farewell, all.
bye Vic
indonesian! when it was occupied by the Dutch, they brought it home!
bye vicuna
hego, we may have another meeting at my house... nrk, scrabbler, owl, jbv were there last time... next time scrabbler is around i'll do it again, you will be invited
ty so much Dorens, be glad to go.
yummy ice cream.. dulce de le**e.. it isn't "enabled" but the four letter is
yup
and the Indian butter
whoops... kids actually want to talk to me... see you later
bye

evening all...it looks quiet :)
clue for the ru 516
howdy nb
our art teacher does that crossy it is pretty cool
how are you, Crossy?
nm found it
hello, crossy, science, and NB
howdy dc
Crossy
not bad at all nb,still waiting on the lottery but doiung fine
Made the meatloaf!
It was great! Who'd a thunk it. lol
my grandma's meatloaf was made wrapped in bacon, with hard-cooked eggs set into the top so each slice had a bit of egg.
CROSSY?
*wakes up* hi Seain! I was daydreaming.
Think the cat's asleep on my back
Hi seain, this was Crossy's recipe.
all good :) i'm eating fried rice i just made.
i bet it was delicious, hego
Lol NB
Yes, made with Stovetop Stuffing!
yes, cats are wont to do that
Have to go. bbl
hasta, hego
done - finally!
OW no she is not asleep. Or if she is, she's dreaming about clawing things.
congrats, science
well done, Science!
bummer, NB
dc any news on the job front?
oh hego, did you do my meatloaf?
she did your loaf crossy and it was good
she did, crossy and liked it
alas, not as yet, science
NB is the weather any better?
sorry dc!
thanks :)
not as such, Science...and our heating leaves much to be desired so I'm wearing roughly half of Leo's winter wardrobe right now ;)
it's warm enough the windows are open here today. nice change from all the cold and snow.
sounds nice, Seain! I'll continue to hang around for the standard british summer...all seven days of it...
Summer here runs may-late Sep most years, temp-wise.
I can't understand how you get anything done in the USA. I'd be lounging around all the time!
summer here goes from aug 29th to sept 3rd lol
here around DC, it happens slowly due to the humidity and heat through a chunk of the year.
Back again hopefully to finish off my last 45, watching Phineas and Ferb enjoy themselves...
tbh sept can be the best month of the whole year in this area
in New England, Summer is July at best. It rarely gets warm there by my standards. And what they call Spring, we down here call Winter.
April and October are the nicest months here.
78 here right now....
lol we would be in the pool with 78
I was indeed in the pool earlier. and running and strolling with doggie...
and panting like old hound dogs if it got over 85
Well here in OLD England, summer only happens if you're stuck in a classroom at school. Now that I'm out of school, the sun might never shine again.
it is the best day in forever...
and the L's and liquified.
i think i'll head out to the Blue Ridge for some hiking next week.
Morning all. You sound sooo contented Red
morning, lyn
I feel much much better than I have in a long time. I really really hate that chill we had.
Hi Lynnxx!
yes, the chill that tripled the price of tomatos
strawberries too, and oddly....blueberries which I thought were made up north.
blueberries here come from NJ or ME. I didn't know that they grew them in FL. Strawberries come from TX, Honduras, or Mexico, sometimes CA usually.
Plant City Fl grows lots of Strawberries. I dont think we do blueberries, but...they have gone up a dollar.
they are ripe now, the strawbs
huh. i'll have to check when i go to the store.
We are at least getting them.
which area do you go hiking in Seain?
last several weeks, blueberries have been about $2/half pint around here.
today they were 3.98....too much for me. I will skip the antipxidants for a while.
I usually hit Sky Meadows State Park in Delaplane, near Paris, VA, take the North Ridge to the Ambassador-Whitehouse traile, to the Appalachian trail, head south, then back north, then the South Ridge back down to the parking lot.
wow, that's expensive!
are farmers subsidized by govt. in the States?
Yes, I was not so pleased.
for corn (maize) and sugar they are, cotton some. Wheat in some years.
Lynxx, there are several subsidy programs in the US. Some years people are paid by the government not to grow...
gov't will subsidize crops where there have been weather disasters impacting them.
yeah, paid not to grow to keep prices up for some commidities
a local turnip farm recently became McMansions near here.
I didnt know they subsidized sugar. the State of Florida recenlty bought thousands of acres from "US sugar" and turned it back to the everglades.
yes, part of the Everglades restoration undoing what the Corps of Engineers did in the 30s to restore the flow
so they're buying back some settled land and removing most of the dams
I'm surprised and proud of Florida, I dont think the state has a good environmental record.
overall no, but studies found that the everglades were dying where the flow was disrupted, flooding rates were higher near disrupted flow, and groundwater was getting poisoned near disrupted flow. So, they're doing the right thing FL and the Army Corps of Engineers.
(i've been following this rather closely)
sounds quite close to your heart, Seain
I have been a bit obsessed with the glades since I did a report on them in 7th grade.
It was the first National Park to be set aside simply for the wildlife and not the scenery...
when you 'settled' do you mean houses as well DC or is it all under crop
i'd like to visit the glades someday. I want to visit Great Dismal Swamp, too.
houses and cropsland both, lyn - not all of it, but a lot of it.
Yes and Cypress preserve. I need to take a weekend and go down.
thats one reason I love Merritt Island Preserve, it all works so well with the space center, for once nature and technology working together.
Great Dismal Swamp is only 4h from here, but i've not gone yet.
I have driven through parts of it dc, but never actually explored it.
infuriatingly, we're the opposite here. it's an infuriating government that refuses to build a tidal power station because it would disturb some birds. not having a planet to live on might disturb them even more, methinks.
wow, that bus just went by very, very fast.
oh no, perhaps manufactured by toyota.
i'm betting just late on the route.
nancy, any advantage to tidal vs wind in your opinion?
NB, much of that is issues with EU designations
hi Ata!
and hi :)
hi Atalante. finished?
nope :)
Wind power all the way. Can't stand all the uptight NIMBY monkeys who think wind farms are eyesores. Personally, I think they're beautiful.
Hi Ata :) gorgeous sunset! or rise...
we neither
trying to write some interesting and informative blurb about estuary management
sunrise!
Everyone here seems to object to the noise of the wind towers. I love the look of them though
the windfarms i've visited in Pennsylvania have not been noisy.
I love wind farms. Though they aren't that useful, really
they're on the W side of the Appalachian Ridge near the PA Turnpike.
in terms of replacing significant amounts of fossil fuel power
not that useful yet...
I think they are still perfecting the technology.
the tech isn't the issue ...
COuld I get a clue or two for some of the H's???
we have too much fossil fuel !
well, not all the issue
I have the obvious employment ones.
Archilles
oh and that one too....actually now tha ti have pluralled a bit I have only one missing thanks!
liking the grid
hi + pq**t + spanish article
I just can't understand why nobody is prepared to make any significant, binding legislation/invest more money in alternative energy sources. Even if Climate Change is a figment of one's imagination (doubtful), the oil WILL run out.
ty, some how i get it from that clue, ata
TY Ata!
NB, that will change as my parent's generation dies and gets out of power.
thanks!!!! Ata, what an odd word.
I think more investment would be made if there were better alt energy sources - better in terms of % replacement of fossil fuels. and also if nuclear power wasn't so vote-losing
i live between two nuclear plants, including the oldest in the US. Dominion, my power company, is applying to build more nuclear plants.
I live between two of them as well, and I lived through the three mile island debacle...
it's all just money. nobody is prepared to spend it even though I can't think what could possibly be more important
we will need more nuclear plants to really get a good swap over, with our current technology. Sucks, but there it is
one guy i know, his family had to move due to three mile island - the went to Centralia, PA, then had to move again due to the coal fire there. The went to NY state, where his family has stayed since.
indeed, ata
wow, centralia is one of those bizarre things. I did not know they relocated people after TMI
My parents were plenty nervous during the event
they lived 3 blocks from TMI
it is a nice area, I think they have turned it into a place now called "Cty Island" some of a permanent thing with a ferris wheel etc.
huh. interesting
But I could be wrong about the exact area, City Island is very very close to the closed reactor.
Lake Anna, VA - part of which is cooling pond for the Lake Anna Nuclear Plant - is warm enough to swim in in the Winter
blue spring state park is also warmed by a reactor in Florida. a lot of the Manatees hang out there.
how nice for the manatees :)
city island is up river from TMI
i didn't get that hi clue ata
hi, jmc
hi jmc!
hi + alphabet: mnopq**tuvw + spanish article
the middle bit was the alphabet jmc. Hi
35 left, I might hit the lsit...

It's not ringing...

Oh jmc, did he always have a beard?
yes because he had no chin *giggle*
sc 6/21...sorry
Ha!
I dated a guy like that.
he shaved it once and I looked at him and said -- don't ever do that again
he's been busy with touring, and has been home for a couple days before heading out again - barely knows which end is up, been so busy
I dont have that one car
and hopefully because he has the grace to stay away after being such an idiot!
*puts on foil cap because ata read her mind*
that's a shame, I used to enjoy chatting with him when he was online :) tell him I say hi!
GMTA jmc :)

sc 6/21 the whites of your eyes

you ID'd my icon as being from a movie - what was it?
people are starting to ask & i forgot :(
your icon? no, it's from pokemon!
it's a, er...Flareon ;)
ah! way off base - thx. now i can answer and appear to know a little more than i actually know :)
my father worked part-time in a family produce store and he always brought a bag full of raw produce home with him. My imaginary childhood friends were celery, carrot and lettuce
Help! Am desparate fot the ce5 & 6 combo
hego - i'm simply desparate :)

ooops yes! I love Eevies. *sad* :D
be back later when I can spell properly!
yes, I'll go to the PB, but I'm taking my crunchies with me
my favourite was vaporeon. *sighs* I always wanted a REAL one.
I have a vague notice about pokeman as it was my son's generation a bit
47 left - i'll finish later at home. bye to you all
ahh Jmc, did you have to put up with buying the cards?
no i was way too cheap NB
he bought a few but since it was his money that didn't last long
bye jmb
he got way more into pogs which may be too old for you NB
I used to have hundreds of the things. They were so expensive though! £2.50 for 11 cards, as I recall.
they are one of the few things I remember from school. Apart from essay manipulation; that is planted firmly inside my mind. Iiiinching the margins in, .5 pts added to font size, sliiiightly increased line spacing, headers and footers...bam, three pages right there ;)
ah, yes, skills useful for resumes/CVs, if in the other direction, NB
LOL Seain. So school really is useful.
it does have its uses, yes :)
if not always as the schools intended
well, I must admit I've been lucky with the way it's all turned out for me, being that I'm always been quite lucky getting a job, and I have a definite place to stay until Leo finds someone better looking ;)
LOL re leo
yeah yeah yeah. must be nice to be employed. ;-)
you're still looking too, kc?
Oh man. Yeah. I look, there's just not much to look AT!
i feel your pain, kc, deeply
Mmmm yeah Kc. I come home covered in beer and bar sweat. But yes, I know how lucky I am :/ but I suppose alcohol-related industries don't suffer so much in a recession. if anything people drink more.
but sorry...I typed before thinking. I've been very, very lucky so far...
yeah. Believe me, I know how it goes. Mr went out to CA a week or so ago to interview some folks, called me and apologized for not being as sensitive to it as he should. Guess a couple of the guys all but broke down, as they were losing thier jobs and he was their only hope
LOL NB I was just giving you a hard time! :-) I will say one good thing about it though... It means I have TOTALLY been able to enjoy the last 3 great days
we are in dire need of more bar staff though. the place I work is so packed all the time. waiting time at the bar is probably around 30 minutes with all of us working at once!
NB, JC wonders if you'd be so kind as to shoot him an email, as he has not a current one for you?
alas, wrong side of the pond, ND
May I please have a clue for cr8-50? Thanks.

the census sent a letter saying the census form will arrive in about a week, and to fill it out and send it back. seems rather a waste of money
mess with them a bit, tell them you have 44 people in the house
10 years ago i listed my ethnicity as American, which was not a choice.
i said i was a druid
:)
and my choice of religeon is rooster worship
if they don't have an online option, file out the form
i meant them sendng a notice saying the form will arrive was a waste of money, rather than the form itself.
oh -- i think they are trying to assure that it doesn't get tossed with the junk mail
i once got a rebate cheque back from the govt for 64 cents, now thats a waste
the giant US CENSUS BUREAU UNITED STATES CENSUS 2010 should be a clue, but yes, likely o
indeed so, crossy
yet but if they hadn't sent it someone would complain they are stealin!
crossy this is quite old so you have probably seen it before but the played the audio on the radio going to work the other day and I thought of you.

I've started going for NBT first thing -- gives me a big sense of accomplishment early on
That way if I don't finish, I still have achieved something <grin>
lol yes I try to do that before I leave for work in the morning
accomplishing something every day!
we are such hard working girls
*hums 9 to 5*
right, and if the rest of the day is worthless, oh well, at least i got NBT...
anyone know if there is more than one "not in" word from bottom right corner?
didn't know there was one lol

Does anyone have the SC 6? I am struggling with that one.

hi ch1212 haven't seen you in a while
hi, ch1212
Hi -- I confess, I've been hooked on Scramble and Monkwerks the past couple weeks. But now I've regained my senses :)
hows the book business ch? ri4 yet?
Hello...
hi jellen
Monkwerks? *slips out of chog to peek*
Hello.
monkwerks> gotta know what that is. and Hi Mongle.
LOL jmc! Ri* is not part of a writer's vocabulary. oh, Monkwerks is 'down' at the moment, I think, but it's hilarious to play with the sound turned on.
hi, jellen and mongie
I have scary news...
I was determined to finish this grid without help from you all ... but, alas, I am totally stuck on ta5 and ta6 ... any help?
oh dear, jellen -- what is it?
oh i never have my sound on
and fireworks...
whats up jell?
thanks for the clues!
what's up, jellen?
whoo hoo red
Oh no, jellen, tell news.
hurah for red!
It's the second ta5, btw. Thanks for any help!
congrats, red
The owners of the building accepted our offer...looks like we're really going into the antique business!
serve your fish with ta5 sauce
thats good news Jellen!
whoo hoo jell!
Oh, whew ... and congratulations!
oh, cool, jellen!
yay, jellen!
Jim! Thank you! I can't believe I fussed so long over something so simple! lol ... fireworks here! :)
Congrats mongie!
I forgot how overwhelming starting a business is...
Yay, mongie!!!
Thx, ch
whooo hooo mongie!
I've been mulling over this grid for the last hour just for 8 more words! Have to go start dinner. Thanks, all!
Our family just started one online -- taking 4 generations of "stuff" and telling the story that goes with each item. Kind of a vintage/antique store. Your business sounds MUCH more daunting! Kudos to you, and please keep us all informed!
Does your store have a name yet?
The Oddities Shop
bye mongie
Love it! Sounds like a fun place to browse. Will you have your own inventory or be part-consignment for other antique owners?
Mostly our own stuff, but will probably take consignments, too...
Well, if you decide to have an online presence for your store, let us know. Meantime, we'll be rooting for you.
Thanks, we'll need it!
Good luck to you, Jellen!!!
hello all
Hello peri
Hi and thanks, Peri!
Good luck Jellen, let's hear all about it
Nothing much to tell yet, bichon...we've been collecting and selling for about a year now in flea markets...
We have so much excess inventory, we'd been talking to another antique store owner about opening up, or even buying them out...
Then this building came available, and things just started falling into place!
NBT for me!
That is so exciting! (both the building and the NBT)
Hi, back
Hi, lynxxx!
Wow Jellen, how exciting - another new start!
I think I'm excited...
Go for it Jellen - if you two can make it work in these tough times then you will know you have what it takes. Who dares wins!
tuesdays with sa5 :D
thanks, dc - I needed that! :D
If you are on Facebook, you can look us up...we'll be posting updates under Oddities Shop...become a fan!
I'm not however will check out your site s it develops
Will do, jellen! That's a good idea for our family's online store -- to establish a Facebook presence. Right now we're just listed for search engines, and on the main directory of the site that hosts stores. I hope you will consider putting some of your items in an online store too --- it's completely free at ecrater.com
We also have a web page in development... www.odditiesshop.com...don't have much on there yet...
oh, then nevermind. You'll have your own site!
I'll have to check ecrater out...we've sold some on Bonanzle.com...
Take a look at our store if you do, jellen -- we know nothing about antiques, but I do the research on the vintage item pricing, and I think it's okay... hard to tell, we're new at this. The stories are all true, though! :) www.familyattic.ecrater.com
I've pulled it up to look, ch1212!
If you think I've priced things way too high or too low, feel free to enlighten! :)
Tim's taking a look now...
There are only 81 items on it as of this morning, because we just started posting things a couple weeks ago.
going home
bbl
bye jmc
Wow, you've done lots of work, ch1212! One site that might be helpful in pricing books is www.bookfinder.com...
I will bookmark that site, jellen, thanks. I discovered abesbooks and alibris, but I welcome another source. I just checked your website -- I like it so far! Wow, a theatre building! What amazing history you will have to share with customers.
May I please have a clue for ri5-10? Thanks
ri + British Babbler
Spanish lasso, gapeach ... I think :)
also same as re5.10
It's not actually a theater building...it was their headquarters and practice space...
Thanks, lynxxx and ch1212.
Still ... it sounds like a terrific location. You are so brave, jellen! I admire your courage in this venture. Your Babble family will be eagerly waiting to visit the store -- at least through cyberspace.
gee - went to list but words stilll aren't falling out - going to take break

i catch Hubz saying warsh on occassions, especially when he's tired. he grew up in Missouri
i grew up in colorado!

I hope non-finishers are tu 4/5 into the chog. Here is another clue story. So I was in a ch6/30 mood as I tu 4/5ed in to watch the ri 4/6 & famous at the Oscars I am glad they hi4/5ed Alec Baldwin and Steve Martin to be hosts. They were the on4/4 who would make or break the show&they definitely made it! It was such a tr 5/10 to see their banter. I hope the hi 5/12 for the show next ye 4/6 gives them another tu 4/5 to host again. I ch 5/14ed so loud as the winners were announced.I liked the award show this year. None of it was ch5/14.Nobody acted like an ar 4/4 on stage. The Oscar predictions were easy to make this year. It was cl 5/12 who the winners would be before they were announced. However, I could not believe my ea 4/4 when "The Hurty Locker" won for best picture. I thought it would've been Avatar. Jeff Bridges looked a little ra 5/14,but he deserved to win. I was hoping they would re 5/12 the show on tv because I missed parts of the show. Now it is time for me to tu 4/5 in for the night. Goodnight to my fellow babblers! Bye!
You could have a Jack and then pass out.
try this - au + a grain less the e +le - plural

Hello -- is there anyone here?
good evening all...
Just arriving, jilli...how are you?
ready to relax, pini -- and you?
same here...relaxing until I fall asleep...
doing well, are you?
well, here it's only 9:10 pm
same here, jilli...
I was up until midnight last night doing some paperwork for a friend...and then a full day at the office...I'm burnt to a crisp ;)
of course --I forgot - it's been a busy day with a computer techie here tidying up my machine
is it working better now?
I think so
that's good!
It was just being sluggish and there were some things popping up at boot-time which I didn't want and he got rid of them, among other things
also hopes to get a way to open some Publisher files which were made on an older version and won't open now
full of good advice too -- very nice guy
I can relate to that kinda of thing on some days...
that's good to have a great tech
I was showing him Babble and he seemed quite taken with it ;)
I think anyone who sees it is "smitten" with it...
btw -- do you have any trouble with refreshing BabbleExpert? Or don't you use it?
it's the only the only thing I use...
Depending on what's it's doing will determine whether I simply Refresh or back out and reenter...
I've told all sorts of people about Babble andthey're not interested -- say they're too busy.
they must have lives! :) LOL
changing an icon -- used to work with refresh but now doesn't -- have to back out and reenter. Guru thinks it's Lickety's problem, possibly caused by Windows updates.
very possible....
Looks as if YOU have a life, as do all the other fully emplyed babblers. I guess they don't need much sleep!
Oh, not really...just been helping a friend these past 2 weeks...but that's slowing down now...(to my relief)
well, look at all our doctors and nurses and teachers and so on!
true, very true...
(sorry...phone call)
you're allowed!
Hello...
Hmmm...guess I shall return later...
oh, I just made a side trip to FB
going to do kitchen cleanup now
Bleh ..
