Don't know, ruru...
Monkey gets a banana for ne4/7

night jellen.. thanks for popping in
niters everyone....see ya tomorrow! Sweet dreams and poofy!
nite MP
Pleasantly surprised to be past halfway with nbt...should I use the list and get them all?
You are way too nice...you are all thinking something like "Use your own best judgement, Douglas"
Nobody even thinks "If you don't get every last word, Douglas, you are the wuss of the world!" Well, except me, that is...
morning all
Hi sprite...
(I think that Douglas).. mostly for me
hey ruru, how are you?
I am well..thanks
glad to hear that.
*Taking a deep, cleansing breath* thanks ruru
On an unrelated topic, do any of you read any of the Dresden Files books by Jim Butcher?
hm no I don't think so
i love them
the TV show was great - too bad it was cancelled
Instapundit has been enjoying them, and I notice that they get a lot of shelf space at my local Barnes and Noble
what are they about?
Dresden helps troubled souls with the help of the supernatural
sounds like my kind of books. Thanks for the idea!
I'm wondering who came first, Harry Dresden or Dean Koontz's Odd Thomas?
Dean Koontz of course :) Just because.
But Dresden is also a private investigator of some sort, isn't he?
yes
I've actually read one of the Odd Thomas books, the one with the lady who stops the wolves in their tracks
I have read most of Koontz's books. I like them very much.
I appreciate that Odd Thomas isn't a stuck-up sticky beak about his gifts, and tries to help people
I see the first Dresden was published in 2000 and the first Odd Thomas in 2003
so I was wrong
Well, given that the books are doing so well, it wouldn't be a big shock to see a Harry Dresden movie. Who should play him, joey?
gosh, i don't know - the first name that comes to mind is Colin Farrell. but the TV show was cancelled fast
I do seem to recall that TV show...what network was it on?
it was an off channel i think. maybe a Sci fi original. but I am not sure. it is out on DVD
Is Robert Downey Jr. too old? I was told he was most entertaining in the contrarian Sherlock Holmes
it was Sci Fi. started in 2007. i loved him as Sherlock. he would work
Currently looking at the Amazon page for the latest Dresden book, Changes
One of the reviewers wrote "This should be a season finale!"
nite all good luck. ttyl
night joey
pleasant dreams joey
Hello everyone
hi lyn, it is your grid today :)
Yay for me!!
yayyyy!
Must be why this grid seems so 'simple'
I bet. Assembled to suit you perfectly
good morning everybody
ehllo sprite and lynxx and douglas
morning rubyfoo
hi Ruby
It's a beautiful dream to contemplate a grid made for someone
glad you like the idea
Lickety made a grid for MRP - something like 800 words - how sweet was that!
g
I think they try to put the names of the regular players in from time to time, just to make us feel good
totally. I have seen it.
oohh, you have it Sprite? did you play it?
My husband would construct a grid of all x except for DONE in the middle. He'd think that would set me free to do all sorts of other things.
gm haz
what a silly sausage he is. Hi Haz
Good morning/evening all.
lyn: partly, it could only be played on paper. That does not really work for me. I'd love to see it in a babble form!
morning Haz
I know. He's admirable in so many ways, just doesn't understand the fascination of finding words.
helllooooo! hello haz the great portakabin buyer! hi glitteratina!
Bonjour Ata!
Hello Ata!
done node oned endo...
hi Ata
oxen ...
Spangly one is Attending To The Paws.
exnode
ahhh, very important duty
phone...
nope, phone cannot be made from those letters
And back.
you should like my writeup today, Ata. I even included species and subspecies.
wb Haz
Stew has just awoken from 3 hour afternoon nap and is now laying on his side killing his polar bear and Easter rabbit (you can't overexert yourself when you just wake up)
aw cute!
ooo fab! yay inias!
hope they will survive... are classified as vulnerable now.
Ruby excaped this orning as husband didn't see her lurking behind the gate and I had to go out in the street in bathrobe and slippers to help him re-capture her! It's only the millionth time he's done that!
I think husband and ruby like seeing you out like that
awwww stew!
lol Sprite, do you think it's a game they have made up
poor neighbors!
I think so :)
Ata, another brilliant pic of Sily
ty! shes sitting right in front of my keyboard atm making it amost impossible to type
she wants to get her own words in of course
I'm also admiring Hobbit's new collar. From the Jordan range?
i think so. its very pink! her purple one was all faded and icky
You can't have a dog in an icky collar. That wouldn't do.
and it was pink or camouflage. and whats thepoint of a new collar if its camoflaged!
No point at all. (a) you'd never find her (b) people would think that she's a military sniffer.
I met another ruby cavalier yesterday. Same age as Terra. They had it trimmed, the poor thing looked so weird. And it was fat. It was almost painful to see Terra jumping and wagging around it, so healthy and glossy and beautiful.
so true Haz
Did you feel smug, just for a second or two, sprite? That's how Ata feels all the time.
exactly. so pink it was!
yeah, I believe I did. Wow, I had an Ata moment!
If they could capture that feeling and sell it....
they'd make big bucks
i hop;e you told them their dog was podgy!!!
Back shortly, need to put a message through to the surgery.
not in those words exactly, but yes, I must admit I did. Hate to see fat dogs. The lady said she had her fixed and afterwards she couldn't make her lose weight. She runs with her, on the bike. I carefully suggested halving the meals and NO sweets or human food at all.
I hope so too. I always warn people with small pudgy dogs of what befell my previous dog due to FATNESS
good for you!
yes, I told her also that for cavaliers the knees are a weak spot. Keeping them slim and fit is important.
*extra important
what happened, lyn?
diabetes and both back knees cru***(something) ligaments operations ($$$$$$$s)
cruciate
cruciates
So, the moral of the story is......GRUEL.
Fed once a week on gruel, your dog will not get fat.
awful, lyn :( Must have been painful.
Haz, I admire your sternness.
painful on my wallet - certainly!
yep I was just thinking: painful in more ways than one!
It can't be nice for huge, podgy dogs not being able to move around easily.
having the coat of a cavalier trimmed isn't advisable either. The poor thing looked definitely odd. Like something washed too hot.
It was huffing and puffing like the big bad wolf, Haz, and it looked like one of the little piggies.
Is the cavalier coat not reasonably easy to keep smooth? It looks to be quite silky.
it is, very. Just a daily brush to keep the tangles out and keep it from matting (is that the word?).
Yes, matting.
thanks. And their coat is really forgiving when it comes to skipping a day as well.
*are
glad hobbit's coat is forgiving for skipping a week or two lol
How often does Terra need a bath Sprite?
I try to comb Ruby every day, but it is an uphill battle. She has an extremely dense, oily coat. It's very beautiful, but tremendous work
And the groomers here won't take chows; they've never known nice ones
as often as he gets really stinky and black, grin. When he rubs into dead fish for instance. I wash his feet with water only, after muddy walks.
they would muzzle her and I won't have that
that is a shame, rubyfoo. Bad reputation for a sweet dog.
You can get soft rubber muzzles now Ruby - have you seen those?
In miami, with our previous dog, Rufus, they used to pick him up with a van everyother week, put him in a seatbelt next to the driver, and he looked fabulous
*smug* - the groomer says Spangle 'stands like a lady' for getting done.
here it is more expensive, I have to help, and they don't really know how
ditto Hobbit *smug*
smugness becomes you, Haz
*extra smug*
the last time rruby went to a groomer, they cut her tail instead of combing it out. It took more than a year to grow back!
so frustrating
How is Max's coat going Ruby?
we have a special "dog shower" in the driveway, but it's still too cold
Back in a minute or two.
he is still biting himself, but his coat is long and shiny, not fluffy like Ruby's
she's gone off to be smug
when it rains, she doesn't get wet through, no matter what
nice grid, but I had better be off to start my day. See you later
bye Ruby
I take him inside when it is cold, ruby, on the kitchen sink. So I won't have to bend over. Otherwise, I just put a plastic bowl with water on the floor in the garden, sit down on a stool and do it like that. Towel handy, instant rub-dry, done.
bye rubyfoo
bye lynxx, tks for asking about Max!
bye sprite
ruby weighs about 75 lbs and there is no way I could ever lift her.
lol you need a dog hoist!
would need a crane!
hahah
lol no, who would! Terra is 8 kg
but she lets me comb her for hours
last night I filled a waste basket with her fur; it I could knit, I could make another dog!
you'd need to spin it first. That would be interesting!
can't wait to see my chow friend tomorrow. she's so beautiful
it would be very soft but wouldn't smell so food in the rain.....
ask around aRuby, you may find someone who can spin it for you
I have a book about knitting with dog hair
would you take a picture and send it to me?
lol, lynxx
I was just kidding; do people really do that?
yes, some do. I wouldn't, I don't like the smell of wet dog hair.
My mother had a keeshund, spun its wool and knitted it
me, too
that is amazing!
wow must have been special. What did she knit from it? Sweaters?
see you later
(admittedly mixed the keeshund hair with some normal sheeps wool that she had dyed grey)
Yes Sprite
hehehe smart lady, your mother
She got into the traditional craft things when she retired - built new friendships in a new community with all the crafts
I just went to look for the book to see if they used chow fur. Will find it and see!
that is wonderful! I love traditional crafts. I used to spin wool when I was still whole.
it should work fine, Ata, it is oily by nature.
but a great idea from lyn's mum to add some sheep's wool. Pure chow hair might be hard to spin.
you could at least probably sell it to knitting enthusiasts!
good idea for rubyfoo
http://askville.amazon.com/Chow-hair-c ollect-sheds-make-sweater/AnswerViewer .do?requestId=8515560
fireflies! Must be off, thanks for the chat and the fun. Have a grand day, all.
Bye, sprite.
Congrats Sprite.
whenever I get a lot of Hobbit fur I put it out in the garden for birds to use in their nests
phantom: noggin
fireworks
Well done, Douglas.
Congrats Douglas!
So, have you heard about the ash, Ata?
Not too many Babblets in this grid...I was actually following the chat in an offhand sort of way
I just saw! Goodness!
ash! did a volcano erupt near you?
and yay douglas!
I'm dragging words from the deeper recesses of my brain.
Volcanic ash from Iceland has formed into an ash cloud. All flights from Scotland cancelled, Belfast airports shut down, flights cancelled or interrupted in England.
I don't know how long the whole thing will last -does volcanic ash disperse quickly?
Apparently it's very dangerous for plane engines, so it's all in the interests of safety.
!! wow I hadn't heard
It's probably pandemonium in the airports. All those cancelled flights, all that luggage.
it should die down fairly quickly once the eruptions are over
I bet Ata is finding us a link.
its on the beeb news website!
Iceland is getting very careless. First it lets itself go bankrupt, now it can't even keep its volcanos under control.
ata has too many browser windows open
TY
sloppy sloppy
it really is. too much icelandic vodka
Will the US intervene, do you think?
I was thinking something similar to Haz, but not quite as clever
Exactly what is the US supposed to do, exactly?
you mean BBC don't you? (aka beeb)
Yes, BBC.
I don't know, Douglas. Bring order. Sort things out.
because there is actually a Bebbe news - from Arkansas (I'm not too quick you understand)
Goodness, you used to have Red Adair for putting out oil fires, is there no volcano expert?
Ata will be too young to remember Red Adair.
I rememberRed Adair! Just :)
Obama is too busy bowing to the Chinese, disarming for the Russians, inflicting NHS on America. And to add insult to injury, he wore a Chicago White Sox cap when he threw out the first pitch at the Washington Nationals home opener (threw like a girl, too)
Ah! I underestimate you, Ata.
was always interested in oil related stuff
So, you're an Obama fan, Douglas? I can feel the love oozing from your post.
I understand that David Cameron is taking some pages from the Obama playbook
in that hes going to win? hopefully!
:P
The thing is, Gordon Brown could study Obama till the cows come home, he still wouldn't be able to emulate his oratory etc. Cameron is a more gifted communicator, but it's the policies that should count. Who's for a chorus of 'Yes we can'?
Can we clear that volcanic ash in time to get the plances flying? 'Yes we can!'
Planes. Not plances.
LOL. arent we taking over iceland's duties there?
We're just offering moral support because we can't afford to give them any other sort.
are't we lovely!
It's my understanding that Obama's grandfather was not very nicely treated by colonial administrators during Kenya's emergence into independence
We are. Especially considering the cod wars way back when.
I'm doing some work looking at the Philippines and Indonesian fisheries at the moment, and there, elections really do matter, because who gets into power in local communities can really make the difference between an acceptable life and near starvation / complete nightmare
I think we have so many tiers of administration here that you don't really have any concept of a vote making a lot of difference, certainly at local level.
That's one of the reasons Obama has been so calculatedly jerkish to the UK. He's got the whole passive-agressive, covert hostility thing down
not half as bad as in America, though
Yes, but which is worse. Obama being a bit off or Bush greeting the Prime Minister with 'Yo, Blair'?
that was just cringe-worthy
And, to be honest, he was very nice to the Queen and she seemed to like him, so it's fine.
even if michelle obama did hug her
Maybe he had just forgotten that his name was To4/6.
Is this where I tell my Michelle Obama breakfast story?
I won't, honestly!
I think so
shall I tell it for you? Oh, you mean, we've heard it before? A few times?
You can tell a story once too often....
and don't we wish some babblers would realise that
You know it's been told when people finish your sentences or remind you about a bit you've missed out.
lol yes
Wanders into chog. Cough. Don't think I've heard it yet Haz.
haz and michelle obama are best friends. story shortened :)
Is that it?
I'm just going to get coffee so feel free Haz (just ignore Ata)
Okay, short version. Trip to Kenya 2006. Stayed in Nairobi hotel, breakfasted with tall, black American woman and children. Saw her later with tall, black American man planting tree in Nairobi park. Passer-by informed us is was somebody called Barack Obama. A new name to us..
*Waiting patiently
And did you like her?
And don't get me started on how the Obamas have meddled in Kenyan politics...oops, too late
And then, suddenly, we started to hear his name more often. i'm told they often reminisce about the people they met in that hotel.
She seemed quite normal, not particularly chatty or anything. He had a definite presence.
lol, Haz! So when is your invitation to the White House?
Oh, national security, Sally. I couldn't possibly give details.
oh, oh, oh, you won't believe what I just typed but changed just in time. I had started White House with the letter S.
lmao sally
You will be forever glad that you caught that typo in time.
Freudian slip.
Otherwise you might have found yourself in leg irons being sent to explain yourself in Washington.
I don't know, it would have been funner ...
Should I worry about the black helicopter overhead?
Not that you'd have been able to get a flight, thanks to this ash from Iceland.
does it have big gun turrets? if so, yes :P
Actually, it is freezing cold outside, wonder if it is because of this volcanic cloud.
They say that the ash will track over Europe during the rest of the day. The Germans won't be pleased, nor the Swiss, it'll muck up their timetables badly.
Time to sleep, but I'm delighted to have heard Haz's Michelle Obama story. Good day/night all
omg sally I had a chocolate brownie the other day by a company called Made In Ludlow? Hand Made in Ludlow? I couldn't see any other name. butomg nicest choc brownie ever
Should I answer the door? Lots of men in balaclavas and camouflage kit running over the garden.
Goodnight, Douglas, sleep well. Watch out for that ash.
Keep the door shut, Sally. Deny everything.
Lots of hand-made foodie shops in Ludlow, Ata. There's a chocolate gourmet shop, several delis, good butchers, two real greengrocers, local food markets...
Getting difficult to type with the thumb screws on, Haz.
And does the local WeightWatchers do good business?
yes! these people! Handmade in Ludlow Delicious handmade cakes and biscuits. A small family business based in Ludlow specialising in fruitcake, shortbread and flapjacks using the finest local ingredients and suppliers wherever possible.
Well apart from the Chocolate Gourmet, that's all good stuff, Haz.
Does it say exactly where, Ata?
Handmade In Ludlow Handmade fruit cakes, Christmas cakes, Christmas puddings, flapjacks and shortbreads. Handmade In Ludlow, Woodlands, Angel Lane, Ludlow
I guess they supply other shops. Anyway, their cakes and biscuits are *delicious*
Handmade in Ludlow by a Handmaid in Ludlow?
Angel Lane is really near me. About 2 miles away?
I think so, Haz!
they supply a local up-market garden centre. was really impressed
I make pretty good chocolate brownies, myself, if ever babblers are up this way.
have you been visiting garden centres as well as FM?
not really, there's just a lovely garden centre that's more food hall / pet store / foofy expensive things store in Burford and I like looking round it!
Oh, foofy expensive things are the best. Even if you don't buy them, the fact that they're there and that somebody might part with cash is enough to fascinate.
absolutely! I love looking round it. So many things you didn't even know existed
So many things you didn't know you wanted :-)
And things you couldn't imagine anybody taking the time to think up and make and sell.
like THIS for example!! http://goo.gl/tU2Q
Can you get it in different types of fur?
£20!!! What's wrong with a tea towel wrapped round the pot?
Zebra print, or leopard spots.
I'd want it in mink
yeah, but it does double duty as a hat
For your safari themed dining room, the one with the colonial fan overhead.
If you set your mind to it, you could have nice faux fur egg cosies as well.
they probably do ....
I'd be disappointed if they didn't.
that was just the first tasteless and expensive thing I came across!
They have nice decorative boxes for keeping the things that you should really throw out but which you can justify keeping because you've got a nice box to put them in.
Oh look. A gardening belt! For all your tools!
oh yes. they *do* have a lot of beautiful things. just a lot of useless and expensive things too!
must have one of those
Who wants to clank around with a trowel and fork sticking into you?
But it's funky!
is it a Cath Kidston print?
It's clunky!
back. I just staked all of my peonies. I usually wait until it's too late but Dh bought me more hoops this AM with a lovely orange Kalinchoe for the breakfast table
There's an outdoor clock for £42 for when you just can't be bothered to look at your watch.
how about an antique sundial? I would love on of those
one*
We have a sun dial for when we're in the garden. Keeps falling off my wrist though.
its for when you are sunbathing, cos then you wouldn't want your watch on or else you'd get tan lines. or something.
£28 for linen gloves. For the garden!
I kinda sorta got trapped on an auction site today - frst it was the cheap ties, then the perfume which was a bargain, then a watch (not that I would probably wear it) and then a gorgeous cheap Morrocan leather bag. Couldn't stop myself looking
they also have £200 plant pots
It's cheaper to use a nail brush after gardening.
I wouldn't know how to orient it, but it would be lovely if it was westhered enough. BTW, my moss planting was not a success. Evidently the birds like to disrupt it while looking for insects.
Tin of twine. £6. When a ball of string just won't do.
Did you buy lots of stuff, lynxxx?
Don't use raffia. I did one year but it fell apart when it rained tho t]pretty while it lasted!
ruby, one thing I have learnt about gardening is to go with your conditions, not against them. If you try to plant moss where it is dry it won't work.
Just hoping I get outbid Haz. Though Ken does have 2 new ties, on their way
too funny, lynxx!
I think snails and "slugs' like moss so maybe its a good thing Ruby
Sorry, Ata, that site can't spell stationery. They think it's stationary. Honestly, they can sell you stuff at inflated prices but they can't spell.
cancel the bids and say it was your 4 year old granddaughter playing
Or blame FM!
really???? oooo I'll tell them!
Say FM hacked into your account. They'll know it's kosher, she's internationally known as being to blame.
we have little brown, spotted slugs but very few snails this year.
they are eating the tulip leaves, however, but I don't mind sharing.....
Page 1 of gifts for men - Red quill pen and stationARY (ugh) set.
Well if you don't write the pen I suppose it would be stationary.
lol
write /with/ the pen
ultimate lager glass for £15? what makes it ultimate?
No excuses, Sally, we should have a storm of outrage over this.
no more storms, please
I wondered about the ultimate bit as well. Is it self-refilling?
So shall we all write and point it out?
We have a branch of that company near here, in Burford near Tenbury Wells. Fun to take visitors but I'd never shop there :-)
I think we should. We'll threaten to boycott them.
I'd just like to let you know that "stationery" is misspelled on the page below: http://www.burford.co.uk/shop/ index.php?main_page=index&cPath=8_170 Red Quill Pen & Stationary Set: you have it as Stationary. It should be Stationery. I'm sure that you care enough about the quality of your web site to get it changed as soon as possible.
*grin*
very nice, ata!
And tell them that an easy way to remember is that cAR is stationARy, whereas papER is stationERy.
Haz, they also have £103 dog beds. Tell Mr Haz!
Good for you, Ata.
£103! He'd faint.
let's see if they reply :)
we bought a beautiful wicker dog bed for our first chow, Rosie. She dismantled it, piece by piece, a work which Rufus continued. These two dogs would have loved it; they each sleep on a stupid towel
Maybe they'll offer you a free ultimate lager glass as compensation for mental distress.
ooo maybe!!
Hobbit has a lovely dog bed. She sleeps at my feet or on the sofa
at least she didn't take it apart
it's slightly ripped in 1 place, but no ...
Spangle has three beds. One in the unheated, dank, cold kennel, one on the kitchen, one in the living room. She spends a lot of time lying at right angles to the stairs, looking as though she's holding them up.
dogs! *facepalm*
I don't spoil Stew, he only has 3. Well he has to have a summer one - to spread out on - and a winter one - to curl up in - and a nice one for the lounge. Course when he can, he is on the couch or our bed
all of our chows have stayed between us and the doorways, their way of guarding us
Bella does exactly the same, ruby
which worked except when a burglar came and Rufus stoof at the top of the stairs and made one tiny "woof"
Good chows
we were sleeping and the burglar only took one thing, an oil painting which he stripped from the frame without disturbing anything else.
I didn't like the painting anyway
How scary, ruby. Was that in France?
yes, but it was my fault. We had a lot of contractors in and out when we were re-doing the house and I would always assure them that the dogs didn't bite AND we didn't lock the doors. Now I say that they do and we lock the doors
and the locals all blame the gypsies but I think it was one of the unsuccessful contractors who gave a high bid and scoped out the house
brb
was it a Picasso?
lunch break for me, see you later
no, is was an ugly 18th C landscape that had belonged to my husband's mother. Really ugly and in a very ornate frame.
bye Ruby
at least the thief left the frame
The burglar left the frame which was ugly, as well
now we have a huge Japanese tapestry of a peacock in its place, much better!
hope you flogged it
ooooo FAB!
anybody want a large, gold frame? lol
no! LOL
the tapestry is very old and subtly-colored, all browns taupes and beiges, perfect in the living room which is all browns and off-whites and taupes
Feeling faint at the thought of all that sewing in a huge tapestry.
I'll have the peacock though :P
the peacock is amazing; you almost can't see it as the embroidery is so intricate. It's about 6 ft high and about 4 ft wide
how gorgeous!
husband got it years ago in Hong Kong, long before he knew me.....
he had lovely antiques but lost many of them in his previous divorce (he had 3!!! -- bluebeard)
I haven't found a word for ages.
now he's whining for his lunch
make sure you get the peacock ;)
he's to old to change wives again! and I'm to old to have the energy to get rid of him!
nor me. am chatting and learning about socio-economic impacts of Philippines fishing. what grid??
see you after
grid?
Bye, ruby.
I'm going to take a break in order to learn about dust accumulations in an average British house.
have fun!! LOL bye dear
And I need to practise putting my loo rolls into points. Apparently it's the sign of a well maintained house.
Toodle-oo!
bye Haz
it certainly is
*gone*
Back. Everyone else gone?
am here!
Oh good, it gets lonely talking to yourself.
I'm just going too...bye Ata & Sally
bye lynxxx
bye lyn! bye stew!
hey all quick pop in, this grid seems faster than the last few, probably the S.
it's not bad so far
I have 40 left, which is good for a morning pass through.
and all the meager 7's.
go go red!
the last two days were struggles, this one is niceer.. I like the plurals. so lazy am I!
red? random question! how long should a dog bite take to heal?
depends of course on how deep....
it heals from the outside in, and I'd say maybe 2 weeks.
you were up to date on tetanus?
she sank her fang in pretty deeply, no idea exactly though
yep
nefs
oops
dog bites are easier to heal than cat bites which tend to get badly infected, but if signs of infection, head to physician.
it just seems to be taking forever to heal, though of course it just looks like a tiny hole when the damage is underneath. I'm just impatient!
and now I must go to work. 32 left for tonight. Everyone please have a nice nice and safer day!!!
we'll all try!
bye for now red
your icon, sally - is that one of your cats?
yes, ata, that's Daisy. Must put another one up sometime of Sparky so she doesn't feel left out :-)
you should! we don't see enough of your cats :D
I think her ears look like the character in Star Wars. Yoda?
Tony wouldn't let me call her that, though :-)
yes, Yoda :)
Sometimes she likes behind a bush or something, stalking, and has no idea her ears are sticking up above it. Very easy to spot!
sheesh, likes sb lies
looooool! that's funny :D my ginger cat used to do that - he'd stick his head behind a bush and leave his great big body and tail hanging outside and wonder how I found him
lol, like children aren't they.
silly ones, at that
phone, brb
Back. Wonder why words are so often repeated from previous day/s?
strange, isn;t it
gah =s53verc3aw! Silverclaw!! She wants to sit in front of my laptop
or on my papers
not so strange really: ité,s extremely hard to obtain through randomization in programming: dr God probably randomizes once a day and if the combinations of letters provide a decent number of possible words, he lets it go at that; it would probably be better to randomize 2 or threee times, starting from yesterday's selection to get today's selection - words would'nt then repeat themselves from day to day :)
true* randomization...
true true
I find it quite helpful :-) Means if I find a new word, it might stick.
hi
hi babble friends
Hi Canada and Australia :-)
sad panda is sad and needs a hug
brb...cat's miaowing...
gah! bloody cat! why won't she sit on my lap? why does she have to sit on my laptop?
It's warm.
so is my lap!
Sily has *never* sat on a lap
But probably your lap doesn't give out that nice comforting hum.
why do I have the only cat in the world who hates laps?
Put catnip on your lap?
she doesnt like that either!
back but must go - 1st pass 89/27 - fairly easy grid - BBL - enjoy the day all "POOF"
bye Luc!
Bye Luc
bye!
bye (Ata) (herin) and (Sally) - "REAL POOF"
Is this grid sucky?
No, it's a nice grid herin
not too bad
Ata you like all things in the Ocean?
apart from moray eels!
http://tinyurl.com/y6bkryd
Good morning Babble buddies. My sister's visit is coming to an end. She will drive back to New Jersey soon and I work all day.
ooo I love hammmerheads!
hi scrabs!
How are you, Ata?
busy! but happy :)
Ata that was an accidental catch too. It wasn't like they could let it go. It would freaking eat you
Happiness matters.
nins
ins
Ata you just had to cross post that didn't you
hello again, lunch is over. I discovered the moss-eating culprit, my beautiful-voiced merle a plastron!
good morning
he is the least pretty bird but with a beautiful voice and large repertoire
hello seain and herin and scrabgler
Hi Ruby. Hi Dc am i invisible?
hi, scrabbs, herin, ruby, ata et al
but can you sing?
i si4, though not like a bird usually.
oooh, sorry pb for me.....
absolutely had to! :D
I love hammerheads
Hi Seain + Ruby
in Miami, I used to fish sitting on the sea wall where we lived and nurse sharks would come over and hang around me
and hi duvald
awww! lovely!
For some reason, the cardinals look extra red to me this year.
and when I walked Rosie at night, the dolphins would swim along side the sea wall and make noises
I agree, Seain.
it was very interesting; I guess they could hear her snorting breath
awwwwwwwwww
no cardinals in France
:( sad now
just the churchly ones, but maybe they're redder this year!
It being Spring, cardinals sitting in dogwoods abound - a sight that year-round adorns many a road sign here in Virginia.
blushing....
LOL ruby
oh, lovely!
*changed icon* look at what I have to deal with today! hard work babbling!
no dogwoods here, either, which is strange because the climate is like Connecticut
seriously about to loss my sht if the rumours are true that one of my fav band members has died
they're an american understory tree
not JT Wright, by chance?
no USA band
he played with my son in Austin and died this past weekend, only 26 yrs old
what's an understory tree, seain
a tree that grows in the shade of other trees, usually under them, often at the edge of forests
a tree that doesn't grow too tall, lives in the area where bigger trees trunks are
just a band that got me through some pretty hefty time
here, there is a tree that grows like that and flowers now, but it's flowers are small and it is n't very pretty
can't believe all UK airspace is closed!
why?
why?
ash plume from Icelandic volcano
Volcan ash cloud from Iceland, ruby
wow!
wonder if that is going to do what happened in the 1200s with France
oh, i heard about that eruption yesterday. i bet Scandinavia will be impacted, too
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/8621407. stm
what happened then, herin?
Anyway, been lovely chatting with you all, but must be off.
be well, sally.
huh?
bye sally
you mentioned 13th C France, herin
ruby, there's a map at the link sally posted, showing probable ash distribution
ok, going to try to find it, see you later
Ruby Volcano went boom then the seasons went spaz
herin, ash distribution doesn't seem to impact France, Belgium or Netherlands much.
there was this huge explosion in Greenland and yer bad. Sorry my brain is rather funted
I put sunflower seeds out - birds are feeding, and the cat is "hunting" at the sliding glass door :)
awwwwwww! chitter chitter!

poor trif;((
((((Trif))))
last "fresh" thing i had was an apple last october lol
YOu need to find a good chiropractor
wow trif... bad mistake
not so bad last night tho -- found some almighty painkillers under the bathroom sink! can't take them during the day, however, as that would not do at all at work! LOL
hope you dinna herniate some disks triff...
Trifs can you FB me?
morning all
no, pulled the muscle that goes from my left hip up to the middle of my back. I think I pulled it all the way OUT of my hip! I totally bow (though gently) to those who live with back pain. I have never had a back injury before, and I had NO IDEA how interrupting they are.
Hi Trif. Sorry you hurt yourself.
HI Peri
hi peri
ice, and massage trif... your best friends
hey car! how's the little star actor today???
it is rough indeed trif,i have 3 herniated disks in my neck and when they pinch the nerve bundle you feel this awful pulling sensation down your neck and arms....horrible stuff
what kje said
I am just getting ready for his second performance this morning!!!!!
wow. and yes, I am loving the ice packs.
I am jealous that you get to see that little rocking robin again. he ruled!

hotdog, I am on a roll :)
at least 3 days rest on a badly pulled muscle maybe more
LOL re the right column. I must admit, I was proud of myself for doing that too - all 3 words!
I can't do 3 days of full rest, but I can go easy for a while today, and then tomorrow too
hye, an accomplishment is an accomplishment,
cute Peri, haven't heard that one before. Hello all
hello lynxxx
NBT!
actually, full rest is seldom ever recommended for back pain anymore... you are doing the right thing by taking it easy trif, ice, pain meds... massage is you can afford it
how can nylon not be in the grid....?

mornin babblers!
honestly, you guys, car has GOT to put up a video of the little play her son was in yesterday. they did a variety of songs about spring, and during "rockin robin" this one little boy was GOING TO TOWN. He had the whole place in hysterics.
that will change nb,as time goes on stubborn people realize that time with family should not be wasted in anger as the time is limited
Eva! :D
NB! my dearest! :)

LOL, Herin! coco pops and kit cats :) Mom...shouldn't be long now! the arrival board says it's on time - a plain old lie ;)
It is on time according to PT time
*kit kats...not normal cats!
bring it on grand field group
PT?
Nancy how many hours is he away from you (no need to give exacts just hours)
TAAACOZ ARE GOOD'/
shut up
FALCON PWNCH
on time can mean different things to different people. When I am alone I tend to veer towards popcorn. Good for breakfast. lunch and dinner. Will add real butter for the dinner variety
All I can say, NB, is when the train comes in, I hope the trolls are under it.
Extra nutrition. lol
Oh yeah, Judi
His family are abouuut...two hours away? About that. Two hours too many!
nephew has a drawbridge in his HO trainset, kinda cool :)
LOL Judi!
awww
Poor NB
two hours isn't tooooo far
hmmm. *guesses which station NB is at* Paddington? Vic? Euston?
Hego ;) I'm just glad the flat is still intact. Turns out I CAN be trusted, LOL
2 hours is perfect! they have to call before they just pop in.
and think of the reunion.....
is the cat still alive?
See that.
Good Morning, All. Goodness! I wonder how bored the trolls are this AM?
the cat's doing better than I am, Ata ;) she has assumed his usual spot on the sofa...guess she's over it!
seemingly rather so, Nef
hi nef
bbl
Hmm. Virtually troll free for about a minute now. Methinks Dr. G has done some smoting.
hasta, hego
Hi, Nef! looks like they're gone..
yay DrG!
NB, how long has Leo been gone? twq hours away here isn't far at all; it's not even a day trip to me.
wow - my first experience with trolls - phew
2 hours is half way across the country here ;)
about a week, Nef - a week in which I've been double-locking doors like crazy! I don't know who I think is going to creep in and ravish me ;)
Thank you DR G flushie
tks for the VI clue
Thank you, Dr_God :)
it took me 2.5 hours to go the 30 miles from my Sister's house to mine last night.
*bowing to DrG*
If you've never been alone before, that is a long time.
Thank you Dr_God
I'm the same way when my hubby goes away, NB. Every llittle noise makes me jump. The cats just get annoyed.
my kitty wants to play
we work opposite shifts - i'm days, he's nights, so several days a week, we're mostly home alone. Used to be every other weekend we didn't see each other at all, even though we were both home.
yeah, I'm the same, Judi! A bird flew into the window and I all but had a stroke ;)
I used to like it when DH would go on business trips and the kids were little. We'd go on field trips and didn't worry so much about picking messes up before starting a new project.
birds flying into windows is a scary noise
Lol! Call 9-1-1-!
that makes sense, nef :)
NB, im sure you know exactly who might creep in + ravish you. ;)
what a pain, Seain! I work nights a lot, but apparently I'm too small and cute to fight off the baddies on the way home ;) so leo picks me up. Gent!
seain, *that* describes a large part of the first 5 years of our marriage (before kids)
awww
LOL Eva...you did cross my mind!
LOL Eva and NB.
Hi Nef
hi herin! How are you?
nah, id just sneak in + curl up with you and snuggle. :)
my peeping tom neighbours would be baffled, Eva, but of course you're always welcome ;) just make Leo budge up!

Hi GG

so we've got a cloud of volcanic ash coming our way and all flights have been cancelled.
Harpy!
how many letters in the middle col O? please?
how many letters in the middle col O? please?
heard that this morning - what is up with all the disasters lately - scary
WOW! GG. Where from?
singe
fint
we had total CHAOS in Montana after Mt. St. Helen's, guernsey. Hope you are up for an adventure!
from Iceland
oops! sorry!!!
uh oh
ty Kermit.
lol i was about to thank you kermit
not planning to fly anywhere myself, but should we be getting dust masks?
said all air travel for england is cancelled because of the ash
how close is iceland?
no, GG. the problem is at 20,000 ft, not here!
It's like the disaster of the day.
news said it isnt really coming down but too dangerous for planes at the high altitudes
I must vanish have a great night
at some point, i suppose it may settle
Feel better Herin
have a good day herin - or night
I lived 500 miles from MSHelens and all non-essential businesses were closed for 4 days. The rest of the summer I kept bus fare out of town in my sock drawer because I didn't want to go through THAT ever again.
Yep. I will do.
Closer to the eruption highways were closed, 500 people had to spend the night at a truck stop....
But, 30 miles from the eruption in the OTHER direction the skies were clear and sunny!
Mt St Helens was huge!
My advice would be to get a couple of face masks and garden hoses, then make sure you have all your windows tightly shut.
harp, it's fine here. no need for ground-based angst
well, we'll see how it goes.
i lived in Billings when St Helens blew. and we had ash over there too. closed down the city for a few days
Well then enjoy the fact that nobody can fly to visit you, atalante!
don't know what it's like in Iceland at present.
ldb, my sister lived in Billings and we made fun of her because Missoula was so much worse.....
The tri cities and Spokane REALLY got it.....
friend's daughter gets married on Saturday and family supposed to be flying in from Canada - may not get here
middle column o?
it was bizarre to come in from riding horses to find the city all grey and no traffic! just eerie
5, i think harp
os5/10
do you need a clue
By the 3rd day people were going out to eat because restaurants were considered essential
I remember thinking it was funny to see a few people come in without masks on....
lol harp
got it mom, thanks!
can anyone clue ve5/20 please
I have a small jar of MSH ash from MSLA, harp
so do I, Nef :)
reve**** of the nerds, guernsey
how long ago was that? i remember reading about it at the time
1980, gg.
1981 i think
tylb
tylb
near enough!
I have several small jars of volcanic ash from various volcanos through they years. Mt St. Helens' is the only one I can remember off the top of my head, however
did you go and collect the ash yourself?
my little thing of ash was brought back from MSH for me by my headmistress at the time - I was in infants school. Any time she went on holiday, she used to bring me back cool little things to stimulate my interest in the world
must go for now. bbl. hagd everyone!
no. My various cousins have saved them for me. (I'm very nerdy, and they all knew I wanted it)
great teacher
she was an *amazing* teacher
interestingly, all of the different volcanic ashes are different colors and textures (but that may be due to the distance from the volcanoes etc
interestingly, all of the different volcanic ashes are different colors and textures (but that may be due to the distance from the volcanoes etc
I got a little vial of ash off my windshield. A few years ago I gave it to a science teacher from Michigan and he was THRILLED!
I tried to open BBC news to see the map of where they expect the ash to spread, but couldn't open the site. Is the qsh coming to France? Our regular weather comes from the UK
maybe different ash compositions
Hi Ruby
its going Scandi-wards I tink
hello hego!
not sure ruby. it was north of Scotland the last time i looked
when Chernobyl blew up, the radioactive fallout came here and has evidently stayed in the soil
the AM news here stated that ALL of northern European airports were closing
sometimes we get bright yellow dust from Africa if the wind blows a certain way
sheep in wales glowed after Chernobyl
Ruby do you have atomic tomatos growing in your yard?
From the sirocco?
fireworks!
actually have no luck growing tomatoes but I was told to be careful about eating wild mushrooms, not more than once a week. You are so right Hego! Smart
YAYYY!!! GG
yay, girl!
WTG, Guernsey girl! YAY!!!
my moss project was a flop because there is a big bird digging it all up, turning it over and eating the insects living in it
That's a shame Ruby
yay for guernsey
ty all
I don't really mind because it's very interesting watching the bird....
what kind of bird is it, ruby? I don't think I've ever seen a bird dig up moss (or ground) before
and there is a beautiful little bird, chardaronnet elegans, that now follows my husband around when he is putting out sunflower seeds. All the other "boarders" take off, but this little guy (I call him Sparky), hangs around
smart bird
it is a merle, very drab but with a beautiful voice, larger than a robin
he is black with a yellow beak (the merle, not my husband)
drab or haggard?
:-D
lucky for you ruby
husband = haggard; merle = drab; sparky = gorgeous
lol
isn't merle just another name for a blackbird?
maybe, except American blackbirds have beautiful bright bands on their wings, so I am reluctant to call him that
maybe that's what they're called in the UK
i think so. i've a pair nesting in my hedge and they do a lot of digging on the lawn -= which is mainly moss
we have lovely birds, all of them, except sparrows, different from in the US, but Hego and I talked about this before.
we have to call them african-american birds here in politically correctville.
ahah!
not all blackbirsds here are red banded. The ones near my house aren't, but a mile away they are
raofl
lol Ruru
I keep a bird book by the window in front of the feeder and can identify them that way
blackbirds are only red-banded in mating season FYI
our garden is very user-friendly
no kidding!
Really?
and what do they do with their stripes ruru
really ruru, didn't know that. Babble, always a fount of information
Hang them in the closet
molt them out
I've noticed that our verdier which are like chartreuse finches (if such a bird existed), get very bright bands of yellow on their wings once they are past winter
just had to open the window and yell at a large squirrel on the bird feeder
are chartreuse finches the same as our goldfinches?
ruru, our red winged blackbirds have red bands all year long. We also have yellow headed blackbirds up here that stay that way all year
we have no squirrels here, I think the French ate them all
probably, Ruby
i'll happily give you some of ours
the blackbirds here only have red in the spring
no, goldfinches are yellow and black, no, and have a special flight, unmistakable. I used to see them in the US. These are definitely as green as parakeets
ruby, I send you a mating pair of squirrels from my yeard
what would that cuisine be called .. squirrel that is
in 11 years here, I've seen two black squirrels and I actually think it was the same little bedraggled one
I shudder to think of it!
ruby, those might be greenfinches?
we bought every squirrel proof gadget we could find - strung our feeder up well away from trees, put roller tubes on the lines, put the big hood over the feeder, greased everything and those little buggers would still be chomping away on the feeder
do you have those? I couldn't find them on line
There isn't such a thing
i don't have them in my garden, but other people nearby do
You need a hood under the feeder.
my sister in NY says that the squirrels bite off her tulips and are a real nusance, not here
seemed like they would even smile at me too
like an Elizabethan collar but for a tree
Did they give you the finger. ;-)
ata would know about that..
I was going to attach pictures, but DH needs help. I need to go now. BBL. Happy Babbling, All!
Miss Ruby got out this AM and stood there taunting my husband and smiling until I got her back.
and those flying red ones......dont get me started
bye nef!
bye nef
Bye Nef
greenfinches are pretty
I've seen women here in fur coats with an incredible number of tiny skins -- maybe that's what happened to the squirrels
ata: are they sleek and small?
I suppose that is one good use for them
does that give you an idea, mom?
http://www.rspb.org.uk/wildlife/birdgu ide/name/g/greenfinch/index.aspx
those rascals are tough to catch
I saw a coyote yesterday. It was departing a field where two wild male turkeys fanning their tail feathers
squirrels that were imported from America have nearly wiped out our native red squirrels
why would anyone import a squirrel
that is amazing, bichon! They have started rescuing coyotes in Manhattan
The Americans never forget the colonization by the British <ggg>
why did the Americans (I think it was Ben Franklin) import startlings?
to put in a zoo, as pets? can't imagine
I was happy Biscuit wasn't with me on my walk.
starlings*
Good question Ruby
ugh
I went to pick up my daughter from school this week and almost hit a female turkey running across the road - she was moving pretty fast for a turkey - saw big tom in the field she was coming from
there was something in the NYTimes about what to do if you encountered a coyote: pick up your child, open your coat so you look bigger, don't make eye contact!
hi all.......clue please for st6/18 please?
The Hawaiins imported mongeese to kill the rats. But the mongeese are diurnal and the rats nocturnal
I'd do the same thing if big tom was after me
sounds like somkething taken without permission
wild turkeys can be very fierce
but perhaps he was just being amorous
thanx guerns......
if your property was taken from you - change last vowel
thanx Mom....
have you read about the Burmese pythons in the Everglades which are wiping out native species? They can eat alligators!
must go now, bye all
Yes, but a lot of them died out this winter due to the severe cold. It killed a majority of them
bye guernsey

might do just a few ears of corn too
yes we use to do that too...hoping my son will steal a few and get to like them that way
nevermind cooking them either, just fill the plate with pods
I love pods I used to steal them from my Papa Walker's garden
yes I would let him do that if he would just eat them...just to get him to eat them is a fight. Only going to do one tomato plant this year though...only my mom and I eat fresh ones..mind you I guess I could turn them into sauce
still buy them and eat a pile raw
i have a silly cocketiel..he is trying to wear his bell as a hat

Hi Doren! How have you been? Andy changes with job position?
fine
Yikes. I am at work and do not have benefit of Babble Expert.
unfortunately, the budget that is being voted on does not have any guidance positions... i'm eliminated. If extra money somehow comes back into the district, I may be hired... we shall see
uh oh
School budgets are tight everywhere.
hego, write to your state assembly and senators... tell them that christie's budget is unfair to the schools! and yes, scrabs they are, but some of these cuts are just insane
Yes, some cuts are broad + deep, and will hurt kids + families.
and if only he weren't repealing the extra tax on people who make more than $400,000, the money would be there. ridiculous
sorry, maybe political rantings are unwelcome. i apologize
Not ranting, just stating surce of problem
gd evening everybody and I, for one, think you are absolutely right, dorens. I used to be an art teacher, and I think that most art programs are gone now. Music ed, too
so unusual to read the news these days, hear how the recession is over and the economy is better... and I know so many teachers who are joining the ranks of the unemployed on July 1st.
hi ruby. Our district is keeping art and music (but eliminated instrumental years ago), but cutting back on library and eliminating guidance counselors
I still have 34 left, but for nbt I need a bottom t and a middle n

i think ive reached the stage of permanant puffer use regardless
both work mom
or brand of vehicle ****ta
ty Momneeds anyone need a clue before I fade into my garden?
tyre is britt
i toss it out every now and then lol
see another learning experience
are your tulips up MP?
it looks like some pink ones I planted in November are going to be white! How could they do that?
like gaol for jail works in the grid when the chance occurs
you have alittle fooling around in your beds ruby
flower beds that is
moi??? lol
it must be the phantom squirrels -- or the serpents
the squirels ate every one of my tulip bulbs years ago...heard we have to plant them in little wire cages so I gave up but funny you asked because a friend gave me several bulbs I have hanging over a bucket that I'm about to toss in the backyard garden somewhere and give it another whirl since I provide the squirels with so many other nice things to munch these days...*smile*
oh no not those dreaded serpents again
my sister hates the squirrels in NYC but here in the country, we haven't any
ssssss
you know squirrel drumsticks are quite tasty mp.....
taste like chicken.....
15 of em and you have a meal...
I live in the woods and we have tons of squirrels
esp. when you wrap them in bacon!!!! yum-o!
when Ruby was a puppy, she used to dig up tulip bulbs but not any more
this is why I do not eat at the local restaurant
75 and you have a coat!
we have beautiful red and grey ones as well as the standard black
im working towards that coat
25 more for fuzzy slippers
my mom had a white one...very rare but neat to see!
you can leave the tails on
to match
quite fashionable
I've never seen one but I thought that black ones were rare. Only places I've had black ones were Princeton and one scraggly one here
shhhhhhhhhhh....don't let PETA hear us
lol, every dog within miles would be hunting you down
now add a few chipmunks for the collar........
black is common here
never seen a white one. Did it have pink eyes?
and is beautiful
the red are scarce
we have a ton of red flying creature
they are the ones that hang upside down from my bird feeder waving the bird
hahah
they had an outbreak of mange a few years ago,was sad to see these things running around with big furry head and tail and all skin on the body
ruby black ones are just the same as gray ones just a diff color....white ones are VERY VERY rare...I believe the red ones are actually a diff variety
sounds like my poor Max
I thought you chased them south to us crossy
in Princeton, all the squirrels were black. Where I lived in NY state they were all grey. I've never seen a red one
lol mom,no way we still have too many, but they are no grief to me since i do not play bird feeder wars with them
no pink eyes that would be an albino...it is some sort of mutant gene...it actually had some small gray spots on it nut predominately white
sounds very pretty
I would like to see the bears play bird feeder wars with the squirrels. Id bet on the squirrels.
we don't even have wild rabbits here and we are really in the country. Again, I think the locals have eaten all of them!
We had a Droll Yankee bird feeder and used to get a big kick watching the squirel antics..they would grab onto the bottom ring and hang on as it would rotate and fling them off...and back they came for another try....
and today I heard a cuckoo!
oh and the perfect bird feeder..take your standard feeder and at the top where you run the wire to hang from feeder, place 3 large rubber gaskets and replace eye hook.hang as nornal..now take power line from garage and run 240 volts to the line supporting the feeder and you are done!!
bad crossy!
taking notes
;)
remember not to touch the wife when adding more seed, but the feeder is insulated
lol
Finally we have a true squirel proof bird feeder that is touch sensitive and closes when they step on it they have never figured it our in many many years...we don't charge up the Droll Yankee feeder anymore...
first ti 5, please?
last time my husband when hunting a shot a rabbit, he heard it squeal - will never shoot another one again. He couldnt even eat it. Dogs had it.
I give up with 17 left but it's been fun. Thank you for all the clues, mom
Ti + opp of stop + cons
ti + you cant get up until your supper is all ***e
I used to have a cat who hunter and she brought home a screaming baby rabbit once. She didn't hurt it, was just bringing me a present and I took it out to the rabbit patch. Not here, though. Here my life is dogs!
poor hubby, when we were up north we used to have to walk a snare line...im glad to say that is no longer practiced

better than bats
I feed my spiders the years they get big enough, but only the outdoor argiopes
*stumbles into chog, suffering from food coma...*
Last year I saw on two occasions hawks swoop down right before our kitchen window and snatch a chipmunk up in it's talons....scared the britches off me!
we have beautiful tiny black bats that look like butterflies in the sunsets
we get those on the mountain at dusk ruby
that's amazing to see, MP, I would love that
same as here, crossy
lol destroyed yerself eva?
if I stand on the deck, they come very close, seeming to respond to my presence
they sense your body heat ruby
man, I really want to spell hyena with an o
*!* ta da *!* - thanks for the help :)
feed spiders?????
yaa for cybernan!
congrats cybernan
i did mean nan
when there is a very big argiope OUTSIDE the house, I catch flies, alive, and feed them to her.
what really freaked me out is this huge red-tailed or red-shouldered hawk jumped up into the dogwood for a while probably snugging up it's grip and this was about 4 feet from the window...geez so close...
i had a friend who used to have a pet tarantula..we used to let the thing walk on our faces
they are beautiful, multi-colored, stripes and spots
congrats nan...
I've never seen a hawk that close, MP
no thanks - had a wood spider in the kitchen once that trapped me in a corner.....
I would draw the line there, crossy
I think I enjoyed the sphincter tea discussion more...spiders eeewwwww
freaked the women out so bad,we were able to watch the ball game in peace
we get big black ugly ones in the house; I use a phone book on them!
we have a hawk that circles our house quite regularly - used to have bunnies and always made sure to keep them enclosed so it couldnt get them
fireworks
yup, bunnies are a tasty snack for them
yaa for boo!
my brother lived in san diego and used to catch tarantulas on his way up the mountain and throw them under his deck to eat the scorpions...
yay Boo
mom, since you know rabbits, do you think the dog would kill one or love it?
I love living her in the northeast - no taratulas, no scorpions, no big snakes
mm i think your brother can have that part of the world lol
our shepards used to kill the wild ones
the only bad things here are vipers, but I've never seen one.
my dogs didnt bother the bunnies. they would be nose to nose with them and friendly. I have labs though. Not a breed that hunts animals - only birds.
they evidently land in people rain barrels. But I like snakes
I just think Ruby would love a bunny but everybody tells me that she would kill it
only bad thing we have, other than getting on the wrong side of a bear or moose would be the massasaga rattler,it is rare and protected
me either ruby...I was shocked that he got so close but he must have been so hungry and so tempted that he risked his plunge that close...of course I was in the house sitting at the table that touches the window...super neat!
yes crossy -- we have rattlers around here too -- although I haven't seen any since the last house on our street was built (backhoe dug up a nest).
we watch for bear and moose as well - they just stroll across our yard as if its theirs. It probably is.
lol,it is mom
local lore says they had a bear here as recently as 1896! lol
The deer do own our yard -- have given up on roses and a vegie garden -- just provided the main course and dessert for them
omg..we had a bear last week lol
two ways to repel deer, nan, human hair or urine!
we used to use liquid wolf scent ruby
deer eat my hostas and the buds off the azalea, otherwise leave veggie garden alone
the other two things are easier to come by!
only destroyed myself a *little* bit , crossy. ;)
well I must get to work it's going to be too hot tomorrow to plant oh and momsneedhelp...the northeast has the biggest rattlesnake of them all the Timber Rattler....
lol eva
good night everybody, really *poof*
never seen one MP and hope never will.
ruby: when my wife catches me "sprinkling" the yard, I tell her I'm keeping the deers away.....she says "we don't have deer"......"I know, it works great" says I...:D
got any ideas for repelling wasps?
raofl, jmitch
good day MP
bye ruby
a bowl of sugar water nearby, they drink it and drown
cyber; i saw something on FB yesterday about those toilet cleanser things you hang in the toilet repels wasps.
bye mom
heard the other day I should try pennies in a baggie taped to the wall -- willing to try anything, they are such a pest. We have a great yard with a view and a beautiful new patio, but can't eat outside for the wasps.
we do have a wasp, hornet, ground bee, yellow jacket issue
we used to have a wood pile under the deck but when we used up the wood, the wasp problem was mitigated
hmmm - will try that sugar water - easy enough
they love living in our stone walls
will try the pennies and the cleanser. We have mud wasps constantly building nests on the stucco wall, and more building nests under the shakes on the roof.
yes momsneedhelp...I have been seeing a bunch of bee-like things crawling up a tube on our windows...bet I should open up the attic and find where the little devils are going....don't want a wall of honey...
so wil be gardening and they come out at us from behind the stones
my husband is alergic so we need to keep an epee pen handy
poofy all....enjoyed it all!

hello friends
hi trif
hi, Trif!
hey there dear one - how are things?
nancy!!! How is it, having leo back? Was it all tears and cheers at the station?
hello all, just dropping by to give you a slice of birthday cake, or for those watching the calories there is smo fruit salad
yummy mummy!
Oh yes Trif, a very girly display of emotion ;) and we were going to go out this evening, but he's fallen asleep, bless him! A relief to have him back though, thank you :)
I am so happy for you nancy! Was he away on business? if so, did it go well?
happy birthday mummy
thanks, trif & jmc
another year closer to retirement!
Hi everybody ((Trif))
how many dread ae words are there today, please?
Hi there ((soodle))
*hides*
Not on business, Trif, just visiting his family because of his lovely new niece :) the place was soooo quiet though! I had to wander around singing :D
hi sodle, have some cake
hi soodle i was hiding from retirement and not you
Not seen you in a while,Trif..Hows things for you?
soodle, I regret to inform you that mr. hate is coming your way for a visit the first week of May. Beware your thumbs pricking....
JMC - Great to see you!!
:-D
I am laid up at the moment, soodle, due to doing myself a mischief in the garden yesterday. Typical - one second of distraction, a week of regret...but really, things are at stasis. The spring is here, and most welcome. Flowers abloom everywhere, and LOTS of good news on the kiddos front, so I am happy
how are things over your way?
Trif - too bad your on the sick list! Mr Hate better not darken my door.... (Grrrrr)
oh no, Trif! either put ice or hot water on it. I forget. One is sure to be correct though :P
not sick, just sore. found some LOVELY pain meds in the back of the cabinet, so not so bad now, but LOOPY
the poor student I had to work with today! I think she left our session shaking her head...and that was BEFORE I took the pill! LOL
Trif - the daffodils are out and dancing in the beautiful April breezes! The sky is blue (apart from the Icelandic Volcanic Ash) and alll (or most) is well with the world :)
okay i am off to the Herb Block awards
soodle, what is up with that? I have some friends that were supposed to fly to Ireland today, but their flight was delayed due to the ash. We have hardly heard a word about it....
LOL Trif! there is nobody quite so agreeable and charming than a person semi-stoned on pain meds ;)
three years ago I first heard Obama speak at them
are you getting an award jmc? certainly you deserve one!
NB - I am amazed to see your here.... I would have thought with Leo home you would be otherwise engaged....
no this is an award for political cartooning
sooooodle!
bbl maybe
oh, I see jmc. (I had to type your initials 3 times to get them right)
lol
*poof*
Trif.... Apparently, a volcano exploded, or erupted, or whatever volcanoes do, in Iceland last night. It seems to be spewing gunk and ash and plane=stopping stuff all day now. Every single airport in the UK and Ireland ( and most of northern Europe is closed)>
{{{TRIF}}}
soodle, my poor m-i-l fell down last week, and broke her arm and ended up having surgery, I dont' know where, exactly, but somewhere near Carraig MX. She is doing better now, and my relations over there were praising the hospital to the skies, and how well they dealt with Jean and her alzheimer's...
Trif - How are you, my friend?
wow. poor icelandic people! Did the eruption do a lot of damage?
I miss being married, still, but I am learning to do all sorts of new stuff, like budget and such. I am still sad a lot, but it IS getting better. I really resent how poor we are now, and the fact that the judge okay'ed this unbelievably unfair distribution of finances, but I don't want to dwell too long in anger, as it will ruin me, but not damage him, so why bother?
*wakes up* Soodle! In answer to your question, yes :D but he's just drifted off to sleep, bless him!
Trif - small things like sorting out insurance.. all vital steps in becoming 'Your own woman!'
yes. I agree. I am not going to have health insurance (thanks, honey!) so that will be the biggest hurdle.
(tired out ;))
Oh My, NancyBoy... I am sorry if I woke you......................
oh no, I just started daydreaming and realised I'd been rudely ignoring you! :)
I am sort of mulling over whether or not to call my b-i-l, who is most sympathetic to my situation, and ask him to try to convince Mr. Hate to pay me some spousal support, but dont' know if that is really appropriate or not
Trif, fpo
whats fpo?
Sorrry, computer malfunctio..
yes, you can't type and do what nancy was doing at the same time....lol!
it's alright, at least we closed the curtains this time, so no complaints ;)
ha ha ha ha ha
in other news, came home from work today to find the porch door and screen wiiiiide open. hmm. luckily, we live way back in the woods, so chances are one of the kids left it that way. All night, actually. Even more luck - no racoons or deer in the kitchen!
Lol, Trif! Deer in the kitchen..that's crazy. If we're lucky we'll get a diseased-looking pigeon crashing into the window, but that's about the extent of the local wildlife...
Trif. I hope your still there... I need your advice.
Trif. I hope your still there... I need your advice.
what's up butter cup?
oh, nancy dear I live in the Discovery Channel
Very lonely woman (me) comes across an old flame on Facebook).
uh oh. and....? is flame married?
Immediate connection - his sense of humour just tallies with mine
Nope. Was married. Marriage broke down because @ they were friends, not lovers'
okay. is he nearby?
About 30 miles ..
so far this sounds sort of nice. Let's look back, first though - why is he an old flame, if you don't mind me asking?
whoops. i guess she minded me asking!
I don't think she would mind, she asked your advice. I am waiting with baited breath, it sounds wonderful...
or she's doing as I did and lapsing into daydreams ;) I think it all sounds lovely...like a movie!
and of course, the best relationships don't always just fall into one's lap...sometimes you do have to fight for them ;)
Hello. Just coming on to the grid. Very spring like here in the NW. I got my hair cut today--life is very exciting. Also went to the fish market. Very nice people who own it. No frogs changing into princes here.
I met a very nice man a couple of months ago, we went on two dates and made tons of plans and then I never heard from him again. Very strange.
People are strange but I know I do not cultivate friendships sufficiently. Sort of like flowers, one must tend them.
Good thought. I get burned out dealing with people at work and am too much of a hermit once I get home.
stid, I have learned that lesson but good since Mr. Hate left us. The real friends stuck by me, and the other ones? I was sad at first to see them fade away, but now I know who to tend, anyway.
here's a question...if you think of the best relationship of your life, where did you meet that significant other? I like hearing stories like this ;)
In the delivery room, nancy!
were you attending a birth, Trif, or was he just a very fast mover? ;)
the minute Primo's eyes met mine I actually gasped out loud and thought "oh, it's you!" And I cannot tell you why I said that, or "who" I thought it was, but I knew him, instantly, at a soul level.
New England Border Collie Rescue - when I met my dog, Quid.
Oh bless, Trif, that's lovely!
he's my kid, nancy
I love my girls too, don't think me partial, but there was something about that moment that stood alone and apart from their arrivals
We met in an elementary school where we were both student teaching. He didn't fit the mold the way the other teachers did. Still doesn't. I guess I like a bit of a rebel.
ah, the old "bad boy" syndrome! Way to go, stid!!!
no, I know what you mean Trif...not in terms of children, obviously, but there is almost...when I first saw Leo, I just felt this huge bolt of recognition. It wasn't, of course, but I wonder if it's similar..
I have to think it is, nancy. Somehow you just know a friend when you first meet them. A soul knows a kindred soul, I think
Popping in cause i love this questions - I actually cannot recall meeting her (we are only 20 months apart)... but the best relationship of my life is for certain, my sister.
The line from "South Pacific" once you have seen her never let her go. Some enchanted evening.
I've lived so long that I now recognize people I never met.
ugh. just got smacked with a fish.
I saw my other half across a crowded dance floor - for me it was love at first sight (44 years on...)
was it from the bottom row T? If so - care to share?
I have lived several places that are hundreds of miles apart, and have been struck at how people really do have dopplegangers. uncanny, sometimes
Yes, Trif! it's like a psychic flash. When I first met Leo, he was standing on the platform of Farringdon Station with (ahem) his girlfriend.
no, cad, sorry, the top row t
WOW nancy, you really were a book of revelation for leo then, eh?
but you are right, that bottom row t is a b*tch. I have one to4 from it, and that's it all day
;)
Yep - that's all I have from there too. ;)
is it a 4/4 cad?
Yes 4/4
sigh.
ohh and now a 4/6
to4.6 too
the funny thing is, I wouldn't even have been at that station if I hadn't got hopelessly lo4. Quite, quite bizarre. I wonder how many other first encounters happen on such flimsy chance!
I am not sure I believe in accidents, nancy. not any more
I have to chime in here, if you are ready for a longish story....
gits
My husband and I met in the parking lot after a baseball game.... 24 years ago the 26th of this month
*settles down* I'm ready for a longish story!
pulling up chair...
sorry!!
WELL! If you are going to insult us! lol
I live in a world of blind dates, ok?
LOL Trif, that's what I thought!¬
I had gone out with someone who sounded good 'on paper' but was SO not for me, but I had already agreed to a 2nd date....
When someone called to suggest guy #2 (following?). I went out with guy #2, because he didn't SOUND right, but I figured, what the heck....
He asked me out again but I had to finish off with #1, so I suggested he go away to a special place in the mountains to celebrate the upcoming holiday...
The next night was date night with #1. I got on the right bus but going in the wrong direction!
I still didn't know Jerusalem so well yet and was going to a new neighborhood, so by the time I realized I was hopelessly late and almost at the end of the line.
was this before cell phones?
(Remember this is 23 yrs ago - no phones).
snap!
I got off the bus at the end of the line, because that bus wasn't turning around - and who was at that bus stop just casually standing there????
OMG! :D
NO WAY!!!
Guy #2!!! He acted like it was the most normal thing in the world that I just got off that bus all dressed up.
to5.14 add a coNs to the to4.6
Very COOL!
We rode back to town together, found a payphone, cancelled the date with #1 and hung out for a while.
oh, bless you lynxxx!
23 years is a while, I'd say!
At that point I figured that even if I didn't fall in love with him we'd get married since Gd was sending me a sign.
August will be our 23rd anniversary!!
(I almost hate to ask...) but you do love him, right?
Wow
what a great story, Mich!
Sure, Trif. We've had our rocky times - but I really love him - and our 7 kids!!
seven kids!!??
That's right oldest is 21, youngest is almost 11.
how many boys/girls? (or innies and outies, as we say)
lol Trif!
4 boys, 3 girls: boy, girl,girl,girl,boy,boy,boy
2 sets of go5.20/6.33 - a yiddish thief or rascal
YAY Blacked out that bottom row T Thanks lynxxx
Thanks lynxx
tertiare needs the computer, so I am off for a bit. take care all!
bye Trif
that makes me tired just hearing about it.
bye trif. Why tired, hursh?
Mich, that all sounds so movie-perfect and romantic!
7 kids!
nits
yep with 7 kids you would probably get lots of ni**
<oops - off to PB> I know Nanc, I have to write it as part of my memoires
Such lovely stories I missed. Need to get tea for young Stidgrandson. Bye for now.
definitely ;) mine was sufficiently less poetic, LOL
You are so right, lynxx, not now but when they were all little, I had a lice comb in every room.
tuning in and catching up on chat - mich that is a great story!
Thanks, JBV!
i got married without being in love because i thought i had a sign... now i'd give anything to be out of the marriage. so i guess it can go either way.
I am so sorry hursh. In my case it was a lot of work, the real love grew as we went along, but you're right it doesn't always work out like that.
well, i guess part of me doesn't want out. i do love him, i've just never been attracted to him, so we have no sex life.
How long are you married?
part of me would really like a second chance to find a more complete relationship, but part of me thinks i probably wouldn't find that anyway, so, oh well. 10 years.
gosh, I did it entirely the other way around - fell for him and then tortured myself about it because I thought he was straight
But Nancy, how did you actually meet?
Oh no Hurshy, there's always a chance!
another great story, Nancy Boy - if these were in a movie, nobody would believe them, they'd say, "No Way!"
yes but why throw away companionship and mutual help and so forth for a chance that might or might not materialize
Hursh, I don't want to go to deeply into this here, so if you want to chat, you can email me, okay?
Mine wasn't a great story, JBV ;) bit of an awkward beginning! Sort a strangled route up to where we are now :P
thanks michnick, but... there's really no good solution and it will just get me all worked up if i talk about it. i appreciate the offer though.
OK, I am sure you have already looked into different avenues.

oh, your icon is so small i can't even tell it's horses. clicking on it now . . .
oooh, and a pond, nice . . .
wtg salmo !!! ~~~ !!!
they are starting to play tug a war
the horses??
yes in the picture...they don't have that ball anymore as the coyotes stole it
s what little blue thing is, a ball?
they use to do it all the time...and every so often the Hawk would cheat by hitting Jake with the ball lol
yes a blue ball on a rope
naughty coyotes!
i guess if you leave the coyotes out of the game they might resent it LOL
yes I would buy another one but with the coyotes you can't leave them around for the horses to play...they take them all and at 50 bux a pop it gets expensive
couldn't you just buy dog toys for cheaper? or are those too small?
actually those are dog toys but even those don't last
ah
never been faced with how to deploy a horse toy that a coyote can't steal. trying to keep squirrels out of a birdfeeder, yes
the horse ones are even bigger
yes those squirrals can be a challenge

Hello babblers
clue for st6/24 pls
just checking in to chat and see if anyone needs help
hey momNH
hiya mom needs help
i could use either 7 if you're feeling generous!
st6, take the st5 before it (what an angry bee does) and add a vowel to the end
a bee st*** + a circle vowel
st 6/24 add a vowel to the st 5/14 (what a bee does)
vi7, that bottle is 1972, a very good vi*****
vi7 - find a cool old dress in a vi***** shop
Dr G is too fast for me
well she is a doctor.
otehr one is ag7, take the word for a sharp pain, change the ending and turn it into and "expert"
* What skeleton was a famous detective? * Sherlock Bones.
oh that's BAAAAAAAAD!!! LOL
ah thanks
*belly laughing*

i'm only a book doctor, not a real doctor . . . 8-D
I have read alot of sick books
BR, my rescue group does a dog show every year and one of the contests is Sherlock Bones - they have to figure out where a treat is under a bunch of cups
book doctor is a kind of editor. although i can also do some simple book repair

phantom: haussmannize
never heard of that word BR
Haussmannize – eponym: to open out, widen, and straighten streets, and generally rebuild, after the fashion in which Haussmann rebuilt Paris
wow - as deep as your profile
trauma is a rather intense subject
I agree
But I have seen some overcome.
There is so much hurt in the world. ... good to hear some persevere and prevail
there is always a positive side - you just need to find it. Very hard for some sad to say.
This article is about an ongoing tragedy where the hurt never ever really goes away: http://tinyurl.com/y7h3th5
some very close to me have persevered
Very lovely icon flower, Mom
Please help with to5/14
thank you BR - from our garden - we grow a large variety of day lillies - its hard to tell but this one is peach

to5/14 - you can make one of these with a sheet + vowel
there are several, debr - which one?
to5/14 - use a set of these to pick up steak on the barbie + vowel

Mom, do you know why they are called day lilies? Do the hide at night
find a cool old dress at the vi***** shop

Sorry about that, bekki
Ouch, bekki!
was visiting a friend in the hospital and fell in the parking lot. don't no why I fell
you poor thing (((hugs)))
I hate relying on some one to help me
enjoy it for a while
my daughter is already busy and now she has me to take care of
wow - changed my icon to another garden and it is taking forever to change on the profile - have already refreshed 5 times
let her enjoy it for a while too - just a little while
stop worrying bekki - we daughters like taking care of moms now and then - did for mine when she had heart surgery - first time every getting mom dressed and so on....
I have always been the one to watch her kids , now she had to find help
wish my daughter would take of me now and then - haha
I have always been the one to take care of everyone
she can handle it - mom needs a break now and then
I guess so but my break hurts so bad. I rather take a trip
I find out tomarrow if I will need sugury
I understand - I am the same - its just someone else's turn while you recover. Hope you have some good pain meds - if so, it will be a different kind of trip
oh - this is a brand new break - ouch
good luck bekki
either way, you will be fine
I love your kittie on the computer - filling in for you for sure...

Not so pretty as California!
Never been there but would like to
depends on what part of california
Everyone should see the Redwoods.
someday.....
Hello everyone again, here we are. I am back for 31 after the oddest day ever.
Hello, red!
hi red
odd???
Hi red. I just got here too. Tell us about your day!
hi bugs
Hi, Bugsaw
Hi Mom
yes they are pretty
and Jellen too!
We had a number of patients who were psychotic, a prgnant woman who had a stroke and I started out the day having to deal with child protective services...
all in one day - wow
sounds like a sad day. I am so sorry
is this the new job or old
Well, I think in the long run all will be fine. but it was sort of long.
honestly Mom, it could have been either one, for the past 10 years...it pretty much describes many of my days.
Done! I never get fireworks anymore. Just a Congratulations. sorry about your sad day turtle
BUGS! I love love love the icon. I missed emyd day.
I am glad that you were there to help with child protection. I was a foster parent and know how hard it can be to prove that the kids need help.
you are in the er?
vici, I thot everyone got fireworks
congrats Vci!!!!
Yay, vic!
I am Mom. I am not really qualified to work anywhere else any more.
hooray for vlcl
ty jellen and mom and turtle
that is such a challenging job - always something new - I dont know how you do that **bows to red***
everyone but me, bugsaw :(
good job vlcl
ty bekki
she fibs - I'm gonna tell vlcl
but she beats me every time on wordsplay so even....
who's fibbing?
ven
sorry
guess I'll go to wordsplay. bye all
night vlcl
nah Mom, it's actually fairly routieine, just a different routeine.
they ignore me over there
I bow as well red. Yesterday our school took the Grade 10s to the hospital for a kind of scared straight day. They heard from the police, the paramedics on the ambulance etc but the one that disturbed them the most was going to the ER were one their classmates was gooied up with fake wounds and barf etc. Many of them had reactions just entering the doors.
you dont fool me red - its always something different
nope, I pretty much see the same things over and over and over. once in a while something different.
Bugs, I am so surprised half of the grade tens werent taken there with their Mom's for a sore throat.
certain positions in the hospital are really hard and that is one of them - are you a trauma hospital
the ER staff who addressed the kids were very passionate about loving their jobs.
Nah, I used to work at a level one, but now I am old and lazy and work at a community hospital, we fly trauma away away!
We can't go to the ER for that in Canada. We have clinics or just go to the doctor.
OK so it is fairly routine - still a tough job with cranky sick people
you can go to the hospital for anything here if you want to pay the price or insurance co/pay. Much cheaper to go to the doctor.
The ones that were upset were one who remembered finding out that her little sister had leukemia and another whose father had suffered a severe burn. I think the place, coupled with the intense fear at the time hit them when they were not expecting it.
deep stuff for kids that age
I guess they wouldn't turn us away Mom but we are programmed to equate ER with Emergency, not just sick
we have a law that allows anyone to decide they have an emergency....even if they just want a pregnancy test..
a health care system will probably change that. I dont know either way - just worried it will cost me more in the long run
$10 at the drug store or hundreds at the emergency room - hmmmm?
it is a free country - sure!!!
mom, they dont pay, we already pay for that.
I know red - you and I pay - they arent working
even if they were working they do not pay, been like that for years and years.
ok diving in the grid.
I am getting very frustrated - working so hard for years - paying high taxes - pay my own insurance - see too many people that can but wont - and it is just going to get worse
if you need help , ask - brb - need water
Help with st6/24 please?
add another vowel to the end of the st5 in front of it tessa
sounds like a Beatle
odd word...
I monkeyed it. No idea what it means
Many thanks!
back - anyone need help
my monkeys played hard today but were successful
are the ve 5 and 6 words related to theone above them Mom?
no
evening people

i have found that babbler friends are the "best"

we need to do virual drinks GE - you are too far to meet up on Fri night
thanks red, i already tried medicating with cookie dough. ice cream might put me over the edge
i couldn't tell what your icon was GoodE. DCSeain likes to use colours in his icon to reflect his moods.
mmm drinks, thats a fine idea
getting ready.....*cheers*
right, going of to find a glass of wine..... :)
Back working on the grid. Hi Bugsaw and all. Trying to do some on my own before asking for help. Perhaps a nice lemonade would be something that would perk me up.
we will do it again tomorrow night
my icon is a lovely painting by Jackson Pollock - just not good for today
already had that bugs - now back to water before bed
cheers, *drinks in virtual vodka lemonade since it is warm tonight*
Hard to tell good in a small icon
i'll be ready for more tomorrow mom, don't worry
I am on the west coast so a glass of wine at 7:00 is still good.
a glass of wine is always good
I think tomorrow we'll go to the tulip fields which are in bloom. A day without any value except beauty and pleasure.
good - yes wine at 7 is the best - working on 10 pm here and almost bed time so now onto water
oh stidmere that sounds lovely
wine sounds lovely right now.
I am envious stidgmere. The fields in Washington are HUGE and I love tulips. They are so crisp and have such happy colours
tulip fields? you are lucky - we dont have those here - we do however have daffodil areas in certain towns
well go get some ruru
Hi ruru and stidgmere...
pretty!
Well, I penciled in our August gala today. We are thinking of some nice venues for our chats with nice views and pleasant refreshments.
Hi ruru
august gala?
Hi Jellen, and ruru. We are all in the mood for a little pick me up and fun.
Yes, Momma, we are going to meet in the NW for two or three days toward the end of August. We have some friendships that cross the international borders and relish the chance to get together.
Do you want to come? You are absolutely invited.
that is wonderful - thank you but too far for me this year with little vacation time left
How good of you and stid to play host to us all. I am looking forward to it. I sent my passport application off last week
where's it at?
I am so jealous
We think it is an honor to have such informal meetings. Ruru, it is in the state of Washington.
Olympia. You are invited too ruru. Everyone is. jmc is coming from back east!!
Ooooh Washington is gorgeous, you will all enjoy so so much!
should be warm then.
The only thing redturtle, we are all used to, accustomed to the large evergreens and mountains with snow. The scenery is wasted on us.
I used up my funds and vacation time this year visiting a sick friend in Florida in Feb. Now saving time for my family. Oh so wish I could. Maybe next year.
red, some of us are coming from BC and others from Oregon.
They always seem to be happening Mom
I lived in Oregon for 2 years. Loved it.
but not as much as Florida...oddly.
If there is something in the northeast, I can probably do that - keep your ears open for me
I lived there for 5 years
good grapes from Oregon.
When I was young and had a chance to visit Idaho from southern California, I thought I had died and gone to heaven.
parts of Idaho are gorgeous
But now the best thing will be the people.
yes the people here are great
this group is the best
Fireworks!
congrats jellen!
COngratulations Jellen!!!!
hooray for jellen
Fireworks!!! How can that be? Good for you Jellen!!
yaaay stidgmere

Hi all :)
mmmm
Hi jilli.
LBD, I am looking at my options in case this master's program doesn't work out... feeling very very unhappy about the way things are being thrown at us. I am putting in more than 70 hours a week so far this quarter and still getting behinder by the day.
I thought of you today too, crossy -- had a potato-leek-bacon chowder for lunch
im braking out some more applewood smoked bacon with sea salt for tomorrow
hey Jac. Hi Jill! (Jac and Jill went up the hill...???? oh oh....)
breaking
yummy cross, what time should we show up? LOL
all the ladies think of ole bacon addled crossy:))
I've been up enoough hills lately! LOL
hello jac and stid.
crossy, I saw a bacon tuxedo today. guess who I thought of?
'bacon addled' - LOL
lol
hi jac, hi jilli
bacon-added value?
oooh. NBT! down to 65
stid -- sorry things are not going well. Have looked back and want to say that d-i-l did a diploma in teaching from McGill, got a good job, did her Masters at Western Washington a few years later.
Stiddy, don't give up hope yet. the program is designed to weed out the faint of heart.
Weather was sunny and quite warm for April in UK for most of our few days away, except for the day after the volcano in Iceland erupted.
it's not about weeding out, it's about hypocrisy, hazing and (trying to think of an H word that describes lack of planning and coordination, which is supposedly the hallmark of TESC).
'm glad it didn't do that when I was standing on it 13 years ago and our tour guide told us it was overdue to erupt!
are you being impacted by ash, Jac?
that volcano has really messed up flying all over the place!
but thanks... I have written to my faculty advisor to describe my proposal for what tasks I will focus on... will have to hope that it's "enough" to get me through.
Not supposed to be yet down South, where I was at the time, lbd, but a stream reached us.
that volcano is truly inconvenient. I worry about the people who have had to be relocated, I think I remember there were quite a few
(((STID))) definitely talk to your advisor and your committee.
Hi everyone. Stid, I am glad you have come up with a solution that works for you. I found when I went back to school that every prof seemed to think the only class you were taking was his, therefore, the work load was not too much.
hi bugs
hi bugs!
hey bugs. this is a coordinated program, and supposedly NOT a collection of classes. But this quarter that is exactly what they seem to be doing. Duplicating assignments on top of *sigh* I am so demoralized.
wowza. the judges on project runway just told a designer to style her models "more young and modern" -- and she styled them after her own look. OUCH
lo6-24 please......thanks
My ex wrote one paper that he just renamed to change the focus for each class he handed into.
Duplicate the answers to those assignments, Stid. let them know you're on to them!
LOL bugs! that seems like a good solution!
sometimes the grids feel like a lo6 battle, Peach
What worries me is that our planet has been fairly active lately, I do hope the mega magma chamber in Yellowstone Park doesn't blow! There was I thinking it was just my overactive imagination worrying about that when I went into Bideford (down in Devon) yesterday morning and the newsagent said the same to me, as had his previous customers. so he told me. Then I got home to the Midlands, went into my local shop and had the same conversation again. Oh heck!
thanks for that one LBD
eek, it's bed time already! night night everyone! keep me informed on how things are going for you Stid. night night!
actually, I bet I can get out of at least a couple of these assignments if a large quake hits... *puts brain to moving tectonic plate off the coast*
sweet dreams LBD, thanks for your support!
actually, bugs, some gals I knew at school did that, only the other way around - Karen didn't have time to write a paper for the class she and Deb were taking, so Karen told her not to worry, she would write both of them, just change "debs" up a bit and hand them in. Deb got an A. Karen got a C-
NIte lbd, jmc and jilli. I was here earlier but had to take a video back
Thanks, lbdawger. And yes, I agree.
ooooh. not good! but rather funny...
maybe that is where " no good deed goes unpunished" comes from, trif
wait, I got that all confused. Karen wrote both papers, bec Deb didn't have time....damn painkillers!
Fireworks. Thanks for the help. See y'all at the flip.
YAY peach!!!
firewords for me too!
YAY peach
YAY bugs!!!!
whoo hoo peach
Stid - the interior of the island that is Iceland, is uninhabitable; just volcanic tundra. The population, such as it it, lives on the outer rim of the island. However, when Eyjafjallajokull (which has been described as a keyboard error rather than a place, blew for the second time in a few weeks, it melted a small glacier and caused flooding.
whoo hoo bugs
jacula, you get full marks for typing that name out!
down to 49 here. I need to be sure everything due tomorrow is printed off. Back later if I have the energy. Otherwise, down to 49 and NBT.
that was it -- the flooding. thanks Jac -- my brain is flooded at the moment I think. I hope I get to see you again soon! *leaves choclits for everyone* *Poof*
Jacula I was not wondering about Yellowstone as much as I am thinking about The Big One that is overdue here. People call it The Big One like He Who Shall Not Be Named or whatever the V guy in Harry Potter is called
Trif - it's not so hard to do once you get a handle on the language.
anyone want a clue before I focus on something else for a while?
BTW, it means 'island mountain glacier'.
FIREWORKS!!! woot woot
Not me, bug. But thanks anyway.
Well done, Trif.
Bugsaw - I'd tell you his name is Volderm**t, but I dare not say his name! LOL
whoo hoo trif
I am bagging it
okay, off to sleepyville. good night dear friends
okay, off to sleepyville. good night dear friends
I knew his real name but how do they refer to him Jac. Memory has failed me
my key board and I are having issues
jmc, are you guessing epee will be in the next grid when ithe icon is a clue?
lol it is left over from last week (this week being tax return after tax return) so maybe I will get lucky
'Night Trif. I've just tucked my other half up under my leopard blanket on the sofa and switched the TV off like he asked me to do if he fell asleep in front of it.
night all
Nite everyone. poofing too
g'night trif and bugs and anyone else who's running away, lol!
and jmc
evening all ;)
Bug, 'He who should not be named' as far as I recall. My old neighbour over the road has a irst born son she refers to something like that. (His name is John, but she won't greet anyone called John as 'John' these days; she finds some other name to greet them by. As far as I can tell, from what she's told me over the years, it wasn't really a major falling out, just him disagreeing with his Dad and her siding with her husband. But she's never spoken to him (the son) since, not even after being widowed. She's lost out on seeing 2 grandchildren, too.
I couldn't make her see sense when she was compos mentis, and neither could her younger son and his wife and 3 kids. Now she's losing her marbles and we all wish she'd acknoledge her first born again.
hi all lets see if I can find the last 20 words..
hi jac, barb, et al...
I know that some things cannot be forgiven, but her first-born didn't commit any awful sin. Life's so short.
Hi Barb.
Hi Pink.
I can relate to the son, jac...it's a sad situation...
Pini - I don't think things will be resolved now, especially not since she's losing her grip on reality.
Sad though.
I'm sorry to hear that, jac; wish someone would knock some sense into my parents...
Pini - I've tried both the gentle of the brutal reality approach with my neighbour, as has her daighter-in-law (still acknolwedged 2nd son's wife).
it's sad when parents disown their own children...and for reasons that are incredibly ludicrous...I mean, who does that??? I could never disown my children no matter what they do (even to me)...
hi all, may i have a clue for ea 6 pls? ty
We try to look after her between us, but we are resigned now that she will probably never acknowledge her first-born again.
hi TO
HI TO.
don't have it yet, TO
ea6 is scoffing food, TO.
even if they took up with a person who sexually abused their girls and turned a blind eye to it?
ty jacs
thx jac
* blink * is that his situation???
Barb's = that's another matter entirely and has nothing to do with my neighbour's situation. Has a lot to do with my stepdaughter's situation, as you know.
oh, gosh, thought I missed something...
sorry guess I shouldn't have commented on a situation I know anything about sorry about that
I guess I should clarify my statment somewhat...I would disown my children if they did what my parents and siblings did...
er, WOULDN"T
ogear, such a heavy conversation for such a taxing day...sorry just had to get that in
i really shouldn't have commented...the situation I spoke of is a stituation in my own family and how one person is"disowned" to apoint and longed for at the same time
good point, pav! :)
My stepdaughter hasfinally, after a year of pining for her mother's love, which seemed to be intermittent with mostly foggy patches at the best of times, started to question her mother's decision which led her here to live with me and her Dad.
st6/18 pls?
Sorry to hear, Barb...I guess a number of us seem to have "touches" of family disfuntion that no family should ever experience...
has her behavior improved, jac?
is she "figuring" it out a bit more now?
that's why we're family pini, barb, jac...we all have commonalities that will not exclude
yes it is very true pini..and we always seem to think others have it so perfect
TO - it's a botany or zoology word but it sounds like a thief has taken your stuff.
that's for sure...
ty
thanks for that clue it helped me
I'm thankful friends "listen" here and actually "hear" each other...it's an important distinction...
aside frm the very large number of a's, t's , s's, g's and v's, I might do something with the grid if I chose to start now...
ty a;; and see you tomorrow
night TO
bye owl
ya think, pav! :)
Behaviour has improved but I expect it to go downhill for a while. After all, it's not nice to realise that your mother, after buggering off for 10 days after you tell her her boyfriend has sexually abused you, finally comes back when you didn't know if she was alive or dead, given her past suicidal tendencies, and tells you her time away has made her realise how much she loves..... THE BOYFRIEND. So, she chucks you, her daughter, out and hopes someone will take car of you.
these go's are getting to me still three to go
What kind of mother does that?
one that shouldn't be a mother, jac
Step knows I have real 'issues' with her mother. I think she's beginning to understand the enormity of what her mother did now, just like my daughter told me she would.
Pini - I've said she shouldn't have been allowed to breed on more than one occasion.
there are too many males and fems that shouldn't be procreating, even alone, and then there are tons of others who show the best qualities children should aspire to have and mimic...if they haven;t said it, Thanks Jac!
Well, as I think I've said before, I do hope that step comes around to the point where she can actually appreciate what's being done for her and she's finally comfortable enough to demonstration her thanks!
My daughter, who was in a clinic for 3 years with anorexia, saw far more in that place at her tender age than she should have done about what adults do to kids. However, it makes her wiser than me about how kids react to certain terrible situations.
(so much for my typing skills tonight)
I found a go!!!
okay I have to ask for yet another clue...go5/14, 5/20 and 6/33 the last set I think I have ones you herd (plr), one that has left, and ones I am not sure how i even managed to get

and the first three v's
I have the farm animals...the not forgotton one and the go s***f the flowers
and I'm wimpish today...and on4 today...I think,,,perhaps, maybe...
Litttle farm animals, Pini. They're bigger than sheep and they're pests. They climb up everything and eat everything!
ve's
which one, sue?
yet another good point, jac!
perhaps I could have said "tin can eaters"
first ti5
ve5/20 - yuough might take 're' this word if someone upsets you!
ti + ***e with the wind
ty for the ti
working on the ve
ve5.16 = the number before 10 with a v - anagram. ve6 is the plural.
that was it....Fireworks
wtg sue!

'Night sue.
clue for the first to4/4 please?
foot digit + vowel
I'm going to wander off to our nice, comfy mattress now, even though Beloved is snoring on the sofa at present. Both are more comfy than the mattress on offer in the chalet we stayed in on holiday. The springs were so hard they made our limbs 'go to sleep' (pins and needles) even as we could not sleep.
bye Jacula
oh my jac...wishing you a good sleep!
thanks pini
zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz ZONK. Happy Babbling stragglers. xxx
yvw barb
how about the first to 5/14?

tired i mean.
there are 8 st
ty for clues.
night mkg
I have st4/6 5/14 5/14 5/14 5/10 6/18
barb, why not use Lickety's list?
then you'd know what you were missing
I have been doing that...but still stuck
ok - another 14, then add a vowel, 5/10 and 6 not related - part of a plant
so I think the first 5/10
the 14 is what a bee will do
you're missing st6/24
and the 6/24
i have the bee
firat 10 is what happens when you spill something on a tablecloth
Lickety's list would show you the gaps!
add a vowel to the bee
add nothing to the bee
then we all do a st*** on this puzzle
then the plant part
got the spill one
just the st6/24 to go...scrolling back
add vowel to the bee
oh my got it...thanks so much...getting tired I think
I thought it was kinda silly myself
I believe the bee + vowel is the name of a drink
I have go 4/6, 5/14 4/6 5/20 6/33 short a go5/14 5/20 6/33
wouldn't that be a proper name then?
the ? says : Chiefly British Slang . strong beer.
go + hiber***
ok - but still very enable
yes, hoot, lol!
barb, the last go5 and 6 are the same as the previous ones but with a changed vowel
hi everyone
hi flosey
not seeing the go + hiber one
patago***?
go + ***cin (vitamin)
good jilli
hi flosey :)
k got the patago...now change the vowel?
change the vowel in the previous go5/6 combo
change the last letter to the 6th letter of the alphabet
last vowel to hi consonant
then plural it
not in the patago***
Hello everyone - arrived home at 5am this morning - 2 weeks without babble
hi anike -- talk about hardship!
It has been hard but have been busy all the time
that helps, I guess ;)
hi gremlinn -- missed you the last few days!
My husband will walk in soon and say - "you at that already!"
I've been doing it by myself with the Lickety clues coming right away
no need for me
it appears I am missing the first go5/20 and 6/33
hi all
hi gremlin
barb -- have you got those go5/20 and 6/33 words? Same as the other ones, but with a diff vowel
hi Barb and pippin

Go nef!
big day tomorrow, driving to georgia for a week's holiday
PB for me?
ok...back (he's all better now)
drive safe pippin and have a blast
ok, barb, concentrate on the last go5/20 -- go + cons + **s and and buts (and pl). Use a diff vowel for the first set.
**fs, ands and buts
not quite, gremlin; but close! :-D
(((bowing )))))to jill for getting me through the go's
have fun, pip!

gadget copter?
(((looking for inspector gadget)))
good luck to everyone!
it was a cartoon
ti5/14 = ti + ***e with the Wind
thxs
ti5/14 (2nd) = add vowel to ti4 before
congrats Pini
got that one pini
ti 4/6 -- remove the beginning of the bee word
2nd ti4/4 -- another word for cans
ti4 5 4: ti4 = slight color
ti5 = pl slight color
k got that now jill
ti4 = wee
got the colours
3rd ti4/4 -- hue
and pl
got the wee
"ti4/4 -- another word for cans" - tits isn't in the grid
ti4/9 -- t + climbing plant
got the can
* rolling eyes at grem *
heheh
got the plant now
ti4/4 (1st) = ti** test (medical)
lol at grim
<-- doesn't like ti4 tests
not getting the medical
by that reasoning grem - it should be derrier
ti4 = like a clock tells ti4, but change the cons
or reasonable facsimile
I'd clue the first ti4/4 as a fork prong
okay got the clock
oh, even better, jilli!
derriere
or the fork got that now
4 left to go
git'r dun, barb!!
have 8 ti's now...one more...
ty jilli
ask away, barb! Just give us what you're missing, not what you have (saves time)
do you know which one, barb?
(I mean in the order of the list?)
k
ummm
how about t+ poison***
the first ti5/14 is the hybrid wild feline
one of the 5/14's
got the one that rhymes with pigon
sec is the bit of color
ti5 (1st) = ti + ***e with the wind ti5 (2nd) = t + german female name (or one of our own babblers)
Pigon: a regular figure having 3.14159... equal sides.
ti5/14 adds a vowel to the decapitated bee word
there's a decapitated bee running around LOLLLLLLL
what else are you missing, barb?
bzzzzzzzzzzz
got the first...***e with the wind...its the second another easier clue???
(((poking pini)))
t + B***O was his name-o + vowel
bees poke people with their s*****rs
got the to's...just the t's in the middle column at the top...6/9 I have...looking to see what's missing
barb, I thought you said you had the hybrid animal -- ti*er, ti*ger burning bright + the Li** of Judah
I have a ti*** of envy for those who have finished
do you have to4 = foot digit + vowel?
k it is the to's in the middle
uh-oh, PB, Nef
yes pini
which ones?
to4 = Animal House's To** party
to5 = To** party + vowel
missing a to 5/14 second one I thinkg
to4 = sound?
to5 = add sometimes vowel to sound
Darn ! You're right gremlin. Sorry (hoping there's choclit in there!)
non-standard plural of that to4
add the sometime vowel to the sound
to4 = pick up food with to**s
to5 = add a vowel to the food picker-uppers
hoping for at least 350
to4 = boy's name
add a vowel to the food picker-upper
got the pickers pini
to4 = to + road abbrev
k did that one more...
nonono BR, no time for 350! I'd like a small one - busy all day tomorrow
I think there's been one over 350 this year - it's a rare sight
to4 = to + ** dude!
BR!!!!!!
I guess barb's only lookingat pini's clues
I hope not!
no I am trying to look at them all
(sorry)
How is Cole, Pini
doing great, BR! Growing like a weed!
jill
He's in the 95-100 percentile...
fireworks
i used yours jill for the food picker
after the boy's name, take the a out of browned bread
wtg anike!
one to go ...yikes
hello everyone :)
YAY anike!!!
what is your last word, barb?
hi nan
hi nan :)
its the second to 5/14 if I figured it out right
TY
to5 = sound + sometimes vowel
add a vowel to the food picker-upper
to 5/14 - boys name with extra vowel
did that one...must be the one before it then
or plaything + not off for the last 5/14
