Just about made it back in time to miss the worst of it. HAd to do shopping etc and post get well card to a dear friend who has had 2 stents inserted.
Hate to say it but as soon as I heard I thought 'argh that is the babble word I always miss'.
Those stents seem to be used more and more often, so much technology in medicine these days.
Hopefully he is going to be OK, all sound v positive so far.
They seem to be a great success, my aunt has a couple.
I've trated myself for the weekend, have crispy duck with pancakes etc, Lamb shanks and chicken breast wrapped in pancetta plus peca tarts for dessert - should keep me going till Monday at the least *grin*

how hard is it to "push" a special ed student when they are mainstreamed in a non fully academic class? I have a LOT of special ed students in one of the classes, and I hope to get them engaged and participating, but I don't want to be unrealistic about their work abilities.
I am having trouble sometimes distinguishing between that ennui so common to all middle schoolers and a true "overwhelmed" blankness
with some of them, the overwhelmed is easier to spot...
it depends on each student and their capabilities. the best thing is to get them motivated and engaged, and then it's easier to separate the ones who really can't from the ones who just don't want to
it's an enrichment class, kids will "pass" as long as they participate so I don't have to worry about grades per se

All kids are capable of something stidmama. You know that and you know that some kids have been so beaten down over the years knowing that their effort doesn't compare well with others. They become afraid to try.
What they need to do a little and see your pleased reaction along with a request for them to add to it for you. Eventually, risking just a little at a time, they see what they are capable of.

I do know that bugs -- the varying abilities (from above 8th grade level to barely reading at 2nd and writing below that...) are part of what is confusing me. Some of the kids who seem to be really social and engaged are not producing at the same level as the others... and with pushing 40 kids in the class...

there is a group of four who barely function most days, and two of them were stalled on writing a single word, didn't want to move to the next item and had given up. I told them it was okay to write what they were thinking even though it seemed to be the same as an earlier answer, and that I expected them to get two more lines done before their time was up. THEY DID IT!!!!!

it's an actual photo -- details are below. The blue lights are normal winter time lighting for that bit that's blue, and the buildings are coloured like that
i did not take it, no. It's part of a pool called Greater and Lesser Washington
i could tell it was winter.. icicles.
