always takes me some time to get used to too. The dark months aren't easy on my energy or optimism. But making it warm and cosy inside helps.

I spend a lot of hours at the computer, because I am handicapped. Babble is good for keeping my brain active and I love the chog. Very good people here on babble :)

LOL - who needs a reason! I take my lap-top into work, and babble under the desk, because the IT people here took away my access to Babble from my desktop. Babble-addicted or what?
unstable pelvic girldle, no feeling in the feet and ptsd. Nothing life threatening and even though the chances are slim, I still hope for some improvement. Yes, Babble is a great place. Caring, intelligent people willing to chat about almost everything, from mundane to spiritual and from serious to ludicrous. I love you a lot!

lol no... I made such an utter scene when they wanted me to get a wheel chair that my husband finally humored me with crutches. It took me 10 years, but now I can walk without a stick! Not far, but still.
gosh, sprite... I'm so sorry. Life threatening or not it must have a terrific influence on your life, the way you live it and what you can and cannot do. I'm not sure what ptsd is, but I understand that just with the pelvis and feet not being what they were designed for is a challenge to live with. God bless you Sprite.
ptsd is a neurological/psychological disorder. It is the area where I expect to heal up the most. And don't be sorry, Lile. We all get our burden to carry and there ain't no such thing as an easy burden.

hello everybody. Just baCK From the first court hearing which went well, I think. I am very pleased with the lawyer. The next date is the 19th for the decision of the judge regarding the criminal charges against the dog owner who, BTW, lied through his teeth!

We have a river in Ludlow with a weir where the salmon leap. The heron sits on the weir with knife and fork!
actually, eva, that's how I felt. But my husband's distress was a sad thing and he thought the heron had eaten hundreds of his fish

My father, used to have koi carp, beautiful fish.
I also put an antique bronze Japanese heron on the edge of the pond, and that may have helped as well
Just turned on my light box. It's 6:38 am here, pitch black and has been raining/sleeting for 2 days. The geese have pretty much departed for sunnier climes. It always takes a lot to adjust to the coming of winter...light box, chocolate, music.

Yes. There have been quite a few studies showing that the use of a light box (it is super concentrated full spectrum light) for about half an hour first thing in the morning, helps with seasonal affective disorder, aka the winter blues. It supposedly signals the pineal gland to shut down and stop producing melatonin during the day. The one I have now is the size of a calculator and was only about $50 and seemed to help last year.

I just put it on when I wake up and leave it on for about 30 minute while I read or babble

I think Amazon are so efficient. Have been having trouble setting up a wireless network upstairs using HomePlugs. It turns out one plug was fault. Contacted Amazon yesterday on line using their returns policy. Replacement has just arrived, sent first class at no extra charge, before I have even sent the old one back.
Have old unit all packaged up and will send it today, and they will refund postage.

Yes, only once had to send something back before and in that case they sent me a return label. This time I could print the label on line. If I don't return the old one within 30 days they will charge me for it. A very good policy I think.

My other reason for using Amazon is that we oare out in the country here, about 5 miles from Ludlow, and Ludlow is lovely but not like shopping in a major town, so limited choice sometimes. Shopping and banking online is a must for me.

tarps are good for under tents to keep a tent from flooding..and in the event is a bad tent....can storm lash a tent with a tarp and stay dry
Even sturdy tents won't keep the damp and misery out, there should be more construction by now.

python I just found out 3 weeks ago that my 14 year old Westie has Cushings Disease and I was devastated. I feel for you.
nono...cus the cat was young...i would.....she was a lively happy playful personality plus cat...and older cat..no...i wouldnt do it again
My last border collie had cushings and she did very well as long as I didn't let her get overtired or dehydrated in the summer or when we traveled. She has breast cancer, too, but lived to be 15 years old.

carlee, the pain that the cat went thru with the surgery and for the remaining time he had with us, i would never consider again regardless of the age
Good morning, All. Python - our neighbor's golden retreiver had that same injury. Surgery was her only option as there was no way to keep her dog from wanting to run. Otherwise, it pretty much will only heal with total immobillization. Darn near impossible for a dog.

Sorry, I stepped out for a moment.
Judi, The vet says he will have to be immobilized after the surgery anyways or he'll ruin everything. So if we have to immobilize him anyway, I'm thinking we may as well just brace it and let it heal.
python..i also had a cat who broke both of her hips at the same time...we had to crate her for 2 months whilst she healed and we had to hold her over kitty litter
( again young..both these cats were from humane society )
she moved by rolling on her back for 2 months...she got better

simpler, carlee.... just mix the batter in the bowl, sprinkle cocoa and sugar over the top and then boiling water over that.... makes its own sauce.

I make a similar one, only caramel , with brown sugar, cinnamon and raisins
( we call them volcano cakes :)...the puddingis the lava)

yeah! son-in-law was due to reinlist in june when AF diecovered he had asthma. They finally let him process and then told him it would have to go before a review board for final decision...they said it would probably take no less than 6 months.....they had requested early retirement with partial benefits.....received word monday that request was denied and he was (is) being discharged in 10 days (next week) with NO benefits AND NO retirement.
oh! that! sucks!!!!
it only took 3 days to get the decision back....how's that for military timing!

it's very possible, m9...took my brother 12 years in the reserves before he was cleared for active duty simply due to asthma...
He has written his congressmen/senators (from Massachusettes) as well as here. He has written to the officer that runs his area and is just doing everything he can.
