Sweet dreams, dfmc.
Morning, rbud.
hi, peach, any snow where you are?
Yep, about an inch or two. Terribly cold too.
Where are you rbud?
We're in Illinois, used to snow here, but friends in Texas and other parts south are surprised to have snow! such a strange winter this year.
I agree. I was born in Alton, IL but brought up in KY.
I have half bros and sis's around Pittsfield, IL
and yet right now we have none on the ground! just frozen melt from last week.
we are about 45 mi. N. of Peoria
Oh, my. Did they clear the roads?
Yep, roads are fine, and only a slight chance of snow for tomorrow, not sure about the next day.
I guess it's no worse than in years past, it just seems colder now because I'm older...HA HA
know just what you mean!
I have 10 left and I think I'll get them later. Good luck y'all. Nice chatting with you rbud.
good job! and nice chatting with you, too, night! :)
Hi all. Anyone want any clues before I begin housework?

hey guys/gals hope the snow has abated for those who were snowbound...please spare a thought for those in Queensland, Australia who are devastated with floods ruining their homes and livelihoods...xxx
that is sad, diz, wasn't it only last year there were so many fires, too? if not one thing it's another, awful.
rbud...as the world turns, sorry for the cliche, but thats the way life is....(and it sux)....LOL
29 left, back tomorrow to list for the rest, night all! :)
hello dizgrannie! I've been following the story of the floods. I have a friend in Hervey Bay who has a daughter in Bundaberg. It is really a shocking catastrophe!

Hello all, btw.:-)
Evan, off you go>>>>>>>tea in the PB to go with brekkie or a hot chocolate
hi jacs
thanx Jac.....what a peculiar word!!!
Hi Jacula
EvaN - are snausages veggie sausages? I like that name, if so.
Flask, y/w.
PB, me? ::looks back to see what i said:: just started grid... snausages are just what hubby + i call sausages...heh
The ca7/40 is the thing sticking out on a ship that they secure the anchor to.
:-)
Mmmm.....interesting!!
jac -- there used to be a brand of dog treats called snausages that purported to taste like sausage. "dogs dont know its not sausage!"
Thanks for a new word, EvaN. I shall call my daughter's meatless sausages 'snausages' from now on.:-)
Oops! I used in grid word in my clue post. PB for me!
I'm sure everyone will be in the PB today for th 4/5. Make sure the place is stocked up.
i thought we had a few commonly-used everyday words that were freebies? course, if the PB is fully stocked, i dont mind a visit. ;)
I'm off to make some mince pies (the Christmas ones have all been eaten) and I thought I might also make some mini lemon meringues, too.
mini lemon meringues...divine
Just using up leftover holiday stuff really.
In case you're not all up on ship parts, the ca7 is a compound word and it's what sits on a feline's shoulders

Flask, thanks! LOL, great clue

yvw!
You know about ten dozen people just typed "booger".
LOL

And that word is tricky because the third letter is not pronounced, so many people won't get the correct spelling.
If the say it properly, then they should get it!
ooh...thanks molls....just came back with fresh coffee..and no..didnt type boogers :p

Hi Mr. Bob.
Hi Bob....how are you?
Quiet in here. Is everyone in the PB for using th4/5?
Actually we are probably in the PB for using ch 4/6!
I'm just fine Flask. Thank you.
Good day Babble buddies. I am at work and will pop in here whenever I have a chance.
Where are my peeps?
Hi Scrabbs - I am in and out as well

kje, do you hve a bad cold, or something more toxic?
i am doe to 1 and canot find it
prob a cold
You'll be over it in a week or so
that sounds about right
I am suppose to give grand rounds wednesday - think I need to fid a replacement - doubt I can talk that long without coughing every minute or two
You already know that. But the first wk of a cold sucks even though it is a mild illness. It sure makes us feel lousy.
talkig makes me cough... plus, my voice is barely there
Oh, yuck. How do you cope with public speaking? I could never do it.
THEN, I am suppose to fly to DC on Thursday for a conference Fri-Sunday
I hate flyig congested
you need some rest kje
public speaking isn't so bad once you get use to it - I use to hate it but it is easy now
Use a nasal decongestant spray before the flight.
yep
I'll do both oral and spray
I CAN'T FIND IT!!!
anyone have ti6?
I have been looking for that too
if it is a fish, i am goig back to bed
Plural fungus?
found it
Oops, that isn't a word.
now must look it up
ti6 - to push a feline onto its side?
Silly word!
hints for the U words?
a game in which a short piece of wood, tapered at both ends, is struck lightly at one end with a bat, causing the wood to spring into the air so that it can be batted for a distance.
Ah, yes, I do see a U over there.
what kind of word is that - thanks kje
rip something to shreds, eva?
No clue about the game.
apparently it is a word from the late 1600s
however, words from the 20th century are not allowed... like spam
im still clueless. mayhaps i should take a nap...

o**** me a bedtime story Eva
o + baltimore: the city that ****s
Another dumb word.

that is the motto? Rather amazes me...
seriously, red... we use to change it to bleeds
molly, i still didnt get the EN6 -- all i can think of is endorse!

well, maybe it's one of those mottos designed to inspire, a hopeful motto...
en + money
En + **** check or charge?
en + you must **** your paycheck to get money
thanks river. and molly and kje.
Snap, snap and snap. And no one mentioned Johnny.
Ty for en6. What happens in Blatimore?
*Baltimore
the city that re4s
scrabs -- apparently they like books
"Baltimore, the city that r****" cracks me up. I know they can read crab house menus, and Natty Bo prices.
that is the motto that was painted on all the beches when I was there
Oh, that O. I was starting from the right O.
i think it has to do with being one of the 1st (if not the 1st) city with a free library system - started with the Eoch Pratt Free Library which is still there
::points molly to PB::
Enoch
add n's as needed
Molly, you are in the PB, darling.
n January 1882 construction began of an imposing white marble structure on Baltimore's Mulberry Street that opened five years later as the Enoch Pratt Free Circulating Library. The main branch of the library is now located on Cathedral Street in downtown Baltimore. After building a free central library and four branch libraries, he granted the city $833,333.31 to assure that the library that he gave the city would always be free to all citizens. Today twenty-three branches of the library serve patrons throughout Baltimore
clue for either U? and hi everyone

reading back on baltimore libray system, did you know that up here near the turn or the century or just after,we had the Carnigie family set up these beautiful libraries in several small communities, many of which still stand today
and did i not hear that philly list their entire public libray system due to a funding screw up?
lost
mm,we better keep the pb full of supplies today ch 4/6 is in da grid
crossy, i think we get a free pass or two. otherwise, you would already be in the PB for TH4

maybe there is some SO4 in the PB today...

I think it's funny people keep mentioning ch4/6. Almost everyone here says chog instead of using that word. The th word, forget it. We might as well all just live in the PB today.

it's my kitty that I lost last year
Sorry to hear that, Kallia, hope it was nothing horrible.
Oh NB...you are reminding me of a joke that I cannot tell on this PG13 rated board.
awww, what a shame :( sorry to hear about that, Kallia
oh very horrible zooz ;(
Aw, sorry to hear that Kallia.
she was only 7
Mollllyyy, you can't just dangle it in front of me and then not tell me!! I wanna know now.
Really..who rated this a PG13.
anyway I do have a lucky black kitty now
You could put your black kitty as your new icon, Kallia :-)
yes when I can figure out how to get it a reasonable sizer
i have a black kitty also;)
Kallia, that is so sad :( when I was a teenager our family dog got hit by a car, right in front of me - would have dived out to save him if my dad hadn't been yanking me back - it's always terrible when pets die.
his name of course is serrius black
Quite, Zooz ;) we're all above 18 today, I believe.
mystery, dark as the night
LOL, Crossy..did not know you were a potter fan.
i am sorry you lost your kitty kallia
Okay NB...I was sitting at the kitchen table with my significant other at the time. We were reading the Sunday paper. There was a picture of Sigfried, Roy and the tiger. I said to said SO, "Oh look, there is Sigfried and Roy and the only ______ they will ever be interested in." SO laughed coffee right out his nose.
wife is,i have not read the books yet
OMG Molly! I've still got stitches in and laughing really hurts - how dare you :D
you asked for it, NB..lol
lol
OOOPS...*offers warm compress to NB*
yep you did NB :)
that's too funny...I'm gonna tell Frank that.
true Zooz ;) I'm my own worst enemy.
I better go and decide what we're going to eat tonight
pasta of some thought I think
Take care, Kallia.
sort thought? I'm losing the plot...or maybe I already did lose it!
WA 6 is not a compound word..weird.
I want 'pimp' in this grid.
i was reading in yesterdays paper how some idiotic publisher got it into his head to homogonize mark twain books and reprint them in a small run for schools but removing the 'nigger" word every time it appears and replacing it with the word "slave"...idiotic! these books and others like them are a small window to history and yes, they may be politically incorrect, racist and full of other remarks and thoughts not used today, but seems some deem books like this not suitable for our modern world..what trash. it is exactly in the way they use the language that makes us see into the world of that time and makes many victorian and earlier works the great books that they are!...lol ,sorry, crossy gets off of his soapbox now.....
*Rolls eyes* thought you would, NB...lol
I object to wa6. That is NOT one word. Cross, I am on that same soapbox with you. Books are a reflection of the times.
and yet a presidential candidate is allowed to publicly refer to me and my people as 'dirty gooks'...interesting.
LOL Zooz.
hiya babblers!
lol nb,i do not walk around calling african americans nigger
Hello, Beach :-)
but historical books should not be changed or the meaning is lost
does anyone have a clue for de5/16 plz?
howdy beach
I agree - on that basis, they should ban "To Kill a Mockingbird", most of Shakespeare's works, bits of the Bible etc etc
dangerous to swim out of this!
indeed ray
de 5/16 clue
just some funny double standards ;) but I agree as well.
with you on that one
we grow as a people, but that does not mean we hide the past nb,that is all
always double standards NB
we cannot hide it just because it embarrases us now
Anyone read a book called The Help?
we do not know where we are going if we do not know where we have been sort of thing
i did! loved it
I would imagine the "g-word" appears in films or writing about the Vietnam era. Just like the "n-word" appears in the writing of Mark Twain. Who are we to edit another person's writing?
plus, think of the can of worms that opens...if you take out 'the n word' then why should any other racial slur be acceptable? or anti-anything for that matter. they wouldn't be so quick to take 'faggot' out of books, I'll tell you that for nothing.
cant wait for the movie
about 3/4 way through it, very enlightening
we do not molly,it is the historical past and must be preserved as such
arte they making it into a movie hoy?
oh, crossy! as an english major, i was SOOOOO enraged when i read about that!!
I do have that book, Kallia..not got round to reading it yet.
can anyone helpwith a clue for de5/16 plz?
if we continue that train of thought nb,soon we will be burning books in the town square like in bradburys tale 'farenheit 415" which was also on the banned list for a time because he dared to burn a bible in it
PC gone completely bonkers!
i am glad you agree eva
I gave a clue////dangerous to get out of this
Oh Ok thanks I'll think about it.
de5/16 if you get in too deep you are out of your de***
I mean political correctness not personal computer lol
we grow,we learn, but we do not change written history just because it offend us now.we grow beyond it
anyways that is all i have to say about that
true...plus, there's more than enough racism in the world TODAY, maybe they should get started on doing something about that.
de5/16 if you get in too deep you are out of your de***
hubby home...dinner to get lol bye all
Thanks a lot. I have it now.
my brother was in the same situation in costa rica nb,simply because he was a rich with man from away,it happens to everyone
white
white
mmm hiccups
he was held up 4 times in 5 years and was transferred from the main office because he "did not fit in"
but the head office knowing his worth, has just moved him to las vegas
I didn't get the de6 clue. Still Clueless In Clearwater I guess.
clearwater FLA molly?
Hi everyone
my in-laws used to winter hear you for many years
ad 7?
molly, another word for very deep
howdy bichon
(No, just using a CL city name)
Hello, Bichon.
you use a de*** finder when you fish
Thanks Sue.
And TNana.
ty trentsnana
as everyone has said, history is history. whether we wish it didnt happen or not, it is our job to preserve it, remember it, and learn from it. for authors, the whole POINT of using such language is to point out that yes, that is our history, but also to make us feel uncomfortable about it so we dont repeat those same mistakes.
((eva))
well said, Eva
Really, what is the point of historical fiction if it does not reflect the language of the time?
and words like quadroon etc would of been lost to time if this were to continue
to remove that word from twains works is to deny that part of our history and to deny us the ability to learn from it.
and next darkie would be gone
people seem to think that using a word is to approve and glorify its use. when in fact, the opposite is true.
soon the entire books is re-written
but it is the window to history and even if a word was a insult to me,i would not have it removed
hint on the O in the bottom row?
in the bible it says for us to kill our wife if she cheats..do we burn the book? no we do not and that is as it should be.it is also a historical book
i remember when my dad worked at the air + space museum. they had just opened the Enola Gay exhibit and for several days in a row, protesters threw paint on the exhibit. they thought the smithsonian was trying to glorify the war, which couldnt be further from the truth. in reality, they had an amazing piece of history, albeit a piece of our darker history, and they felt responsible to share it with the world.
as they should
O+ look at book
ty
and we learn, that in that type of war, there can be no such thing as 'acceptable losses" that north korean crackpot can learn something from that exibit
finally - NBT
yw :-)
how about the 8?
then I can have NBS, too
i was amazed in my years working there, just how many exhibits were defaced because someone didnt agree with the politics behind the history. i couldnt IMAGINE going into a museum and doing the things people did there, and removing that word from twains works is the exact same thing.
op8
a 7?
ty
op 8 choices
did i ever tell you eva that you are my favorite?:)))
got it - thnx
ad7 ad + letter + robotic ending.
I suppose some people just can't deal with some aspects of history, really. It's really difficult to accept that you belong to a species that has those kind of capabilities
ty zooz
we must shoulder our failures as well as out victories
ca 7.40?
we are human, we screw up. it is our design. but it also our design to learn from our past -- so dont erase it just because you dont like it. instead focus on it and learn from it.
ca7 not the tail of a feline...compound word.
remember a mistake is just our way of practicing perfection;))
great clue, zooz
that reminds me,the autobiography of twain is now out:)
does the ca 7 add to the word before it?
he said to wait 100 years and it was 100 years this march just past
should be interesting reading
nm, got it. tyvm zooz
oh golly. just realized the time what with the interesting discussion! mayhaps i should go get myself some lunch. ;)
it is to be in 3 volumes as i understand
lol, sorry i got the chog going ;) was just astounded when i read what they are planning
19 left but help with the he6, 27 pls
As a species, I don't think we do learn from our mistakes at all. There's currently an estimated 2.5 million people who have been trafficked into forced labour and sexual exploitation...modern-day slavery. We only learn how to get sneakier at doing it.
HE6/27 to he**** spoons of sugar please.
some people learn, last i checked,we had no more slaves in the U.S or canada no more house boys hobbled so they cannot run,but it is defianatly a work in progress nb
HE6/27 two he**** spoons of sugar please.
well, let me re-word. we are not designed to automatically learn, but we are designed to have the ability to learn. :)
How thick am I? Thanks - thought I'd tried that several times!!!
yw :-)
we no longer carry handguns around our waists and have shoot outs in the street for justice..so we learned there as well
I believe we do have slaves in the U.S. There are stories of people being brought here to the U.S. who are housekeepers and not paid well or treated well.
it is smal steps to the next thing
Actually, there's still thousands of slaves in the US
Children, no less.
you know what i am trying to get across nb
It's definitely better than before, but not totally fixed, I'm afraid.
you are smart and can understand what i am saying
there is no such thing as a glabl quick fix
global
global
damn hiccup
things will change like they always have..one person at a time
I really like GLABL -- lol
yeah, I know what you're saying, I just think people tend to underestimate the modern issue a great deal
would it suprise you to learn nb,that my dad was so racist and phobic ,that he would of thrown both you and your friends down the nearest incinerator chute, but i grew to adulthood and chose not to follow his views.i had a son and taught him my views, and he has no hatred of anyone because of race ,creed, colour or orientation..i have changed myself and my son...one person at a time
<-- stands up and applauds Crossy!
:))
was just getting my point across
lol
small drops of water a might river make..and all that zen crap lol
mighty
lol,if we in north america were to fix "the modern issue" we would all have to get on ships and go back overseas and give the u.s back to the indians and canada back to the first nations and the inuit.some things can be changed, some can be,but take time and some cannot
but i digress and stand down from my soap box once again;)
this is a place for fun and light banter,if i am making anyone uncomfortable just tell crossy to pipe down;)
Hello again, Babble buddies! Lunch break--woo hoo!
scrabbs!
I was confused by the he6 clue, so I will offer up "he he**** sugar into his tea."
lunch for me too! doing charts at the same time....
How are you, Bacon Boy?
I just finished typing all of my notes.
I agree, Molly--past tense not a plural.
gotta do preops for tomorrow
I actually read that as a gerund ending.
i am fine ,just venting my spleen there for a bit ,but now word sniping very well;)
Anesthesia, I just remembered. Are you at Georgetown or are you a grad?
grad
good evening babblers xxx
Sorry, that's what I meant, Molly. I am getting my word forms mixed up.
howdy frog
Which year, hoya? A friend graduated from there in 1986.
Hi frogface
howdy cross xxx
undergrad 96, med 2000
hi scrabbler
Oh, you are a baby then. Med school '85 for me.
just had 10-yr reunion. we's all growns up!
We had our 25 yr reunion last spring. We mostly look the same but this decade (50's) is when we will change a lot.
all downhill from here, eh? ;)
Not really. Life + professional experience are incredibly helpful. I felt like a real grown-up at about 42, and being older than the parents of my patients helps me command more respect and authority. It's tough to be a young doc.
what bothers me scrabbs are the doctors who now look so young that they appear to only need to shave once a week lol
The older we get, the younger the new doctors look, too - ha!!
Long time, no see.
i always joke, "i'll be your anesthesiologist...i know, i know, you're thinking how on earth can she be old enough...she must be a genius!" ha if only they saw me play babble...
I am so glad to be past those years of studying + training. Practicing medicine is much easier with experience under one's belt.
i have a question - why does babbled dictionary not allow actioned?
I TEACH those kids/medical students. I think, "How can they be close to being a doctor? They are so young!"
Hi nana + cgw
I tried that word too, frogface
it is a legitimate word in both the UK and US dictionary, and also in the Canadian Collins dictionary and in Australia so ???
enable is like a benevolent dictator.it makes its own rules and we must follow
oh, fairy nuff
ok, i really need to do my charts now. see y'all tonight
Bye.
tc cgw
bye cg xxx
bye hoy xxx
Bye Hoyadoc
last time i wnet to the doc,i made him laugh.at the end of the exam i reached into my jacket pocket and gave HIM a lolly
That's sweet, Crossy.
well he was a good boy and did not hurt ole crossy:)
Our 15 yr old patient with metastatic testicular cancer is not doing well. :-(
:(( i am sorry to hear that scrabby
He was diagnosed last August so has a ways to go with chemo
reminded me to check my protein folding was on.may seem trivial and bound to fail, but the only failures are things that are never attempted
like most good breakthrough moments it will not be 'eureka!" that marks an important discovery you will hear "thats funny...."
True.
and for those that are well read, yes,i stole that from "Isaac Azimov"
Silly Crossy.
:)
remember scrabbs, there are only 7 original ideas, everything else is plagerism
So what are the 7?
'lo all. crossy, I am in re-reading Asimov's Foundation trilogy right now. Love his work.
i thinks they are along the same line as the 7 deadly sins
asimov rocks!
i am reading or will be reading his 'early years" collection nect
Hi ch
next
I have no plans to re4 Asimov's books.
poor scrabbs, you are missing an amazing mind at work
He published over 400 books in just about every genre, including religion, science, science-fiction, mystery, poetry, ... let's see ...
there is a collection that he edited called "space mail" that is a terrific intoduction to him and some of his works and others in that genre
and his non fiction stuff is just wild
But I have dozens of other books on my shelves and list.
and mostly above crossy:/
I read one of his books when I was in high school
lol scrabbs,my to read list is so long,i will never finish
Oh, and even a book about witches and warlocks. I have his Bible reference set, among most of his sci-fi and several of his science books on space and earth.
I am bracing myself because I just discovered that I have to see 2 14 yr old girls this afternoon. The ultimate worst patient = adolescent girl. Aaaaahhh, the drama!
i think i once worked out that if you manage 2 books a week you are limited to an average lifetime total of just 10,000 books;((
lol@ drama queens
LOL scrabbler! And so true!
They are brutal for everyone in their path, just like an F-5 tornado.
haha scrabs.. i just had 2 almost 14 year olds in here... used to be bf's, now not... no fun at all!!!
((Doren)). Brutal! There are a few mature, polite adolescent girls out there, but they are the exception.
hi folks!
howdy feathers
one of these was the mature polite one (pres. of student council, NJHS, etc) the other polite but IMmature!
what are the 14 year old boys like, in comparison?
hi feather... enjoy your little ones... see what they turn into in six or seven years... boys are a dream!!'
lol, that's why i was asking!
when i said that, was referring to your students, not sons!
ahhhh, LOL!
i have 16 year old son,he lays around and grunts monosylables unless it is about the car or money, then he is quite vocal
17 this feb actually
lol, ok, i could handle that
sounds normal, crossy
starting the grid, playing hooky
The 7 basic writing premises are: 1. Overcoming the Monster 2. Rags to Riches 3. The Quest 4. Voyage and Return 5. Comedy 6. Tragedy 7. Rebirth
is that what you call it? i call it lunch
i had a dentist appt this morning, and am off the rest of the day. laundry's doing it's thing, i'm on the couch planning to babble till i fall asleep.
oh i see... how nice!
Hi featherbee!
TY, Molly! I learned something new today!
yeah, so if i suddenly stop responding....well, zzzzzzzzzzzz!
interesting molly!
Featherbee, adolescent boys are way easier to raise than girls, but they go rather brain dead at 13 or so--dopey, clueless.
much prefer dopey and clueless to vicious and miserable
lol, ah well. dopey is better than drama.
Scrabs, adolescent boys go dopey at 12 or 13 because their blood flow becomes re-directed to...ahem...another area of their body.
Just kidding!
Yes, that blood is redirected to 3 other organs.
no molly, i think you actually have something there
I have three sons. As soon as the hormones kicked in, they reached that dopey, clueless thing Scrabs mentioned.
i'm assuming they emerge from the fog at some point, right?
ty for the list molly i knew there was but 7
well, you married one.. and you're still married... what do you think?
hmmm......
he mostly emerged. there are days though.....
I have 3 nephews that I have helped to raise, due to significant family issues, so I have witnessed the changes. They are now almost 23, 21 and 17. The oldest has lived with me since age 16.
my son is 31 nearly 32 and he still a dopey thing at times
lol, poppers at 6:30 am anyone???
we snap out of it at 60,when we remarry and get 25 year old trophy wives lol
lol crossy
ok, nappy nap time i think
happy nappy feathers
sweet dreams
clue for the ca7, plz?
I am off on Quote Puzzler, screwing up those games.
Sleep well, featherbee!

stupid word
hi all
Ty JMC!
And hello to you and all!
yw
I agree about the en6. Stupid word.
hey molly did you see the nice sunset tonight?
I'm not too crazy about the U's tonight either!
they are silly words too
it took me forty forevers to understand the clues for them too!
Oye vey. Just got some odd news from work. Sometimes, I just wish I could work in a bubble.
what?
Someone I know (being very generic here) took an overdose in December. She had some treatment and came back to work this week...
poor thing! hope she is still in treatment
but apparently she is still pretty upset, and several of the patients complained that she was scaring them a bit and they felt "she needed to get it together" so she I think was let go today.
Or placed on a very long suspension.
oh dear no good outcome no matter what--couldn't keep her if she is scaring patients
And because she lives very close to me, my boss wants me to go and check on her. but she is a bit manipulative and can drag a person into a long discussion...
SHe actually in my opinion was not ready to go back to work.
clearly not but sounds like suspension if boss is still checking
And I can not solve her problems, arrrrgh.
Well, you know, Nurses always want to be sure people are OK, fired or suspension.
can you have a friend drive you over and stay in the car and honk after 10 minutes? *oops sorry have to go little goergie is impatient"
i will have to take your word on how nurses are
hi folks (red, why would your boss put you into the middle of this drama ... she should go check herself, no matter how far, if she wants to see how she is)
hi welki and good point
I could try that. True, she should Welki, that is one reason I am a bit annoyed.
heck, if things go sideways, eyes are on red
SHe was a patient I cared for when it happened, and I did not want that then. So...
wow what lousy advise i gave today red
don't listen to me listen to welki
I think I shall find a way to ambulate the dog round, and not stay.
listen to both of us and then decide what's right for YOU (jm is compassionate, i'm all about c.y.a.)
another good strategy
gee generally i have the cya role and not the compassionate one! lol
:)
With her, because of the way she handled the problem I have been trying to distance myself. She has some issues that I am uncomfortable with and sooo....
So getting that call was an unpleasant moment.
the call was from the boss?
so nice that your supervisor put you between the rock and the hard place ... she's a swell gal. so now, even if you feel uncomfortable with issues the 'patient' has, you now have the dubious honor of being uncomfortable with a most inappropriate request from a superior. blech. agh. ptui.
something to be said about being independently wealthy ... and i sure wish i was *lol*
well, one of my supervisors. She felt that since she only knew of this in an administrative way and not directly from the person she could not contact her, but thought I could just call her as a friend.
so i guessing you are not in the position to say to supervisor, I really can't do this? or how is it my job?
But... I am not actually her friend.
oh i c
I told her I'd swing by and see if things looked ok from the outside, which I will do.
but you're not her friend and surely she'd suspect you were put up to the call/visit .. how many other patients do you visit after discharge?
so say to supervisor . ..I am not actually that close
she is also my co-worker welki.
it's a fellow nurse not patient
which makes it much, much worse
it's a fellow nurse who was a patient, correct?
lets just that it was sort of hypothetical for the chat purpose yes?
brrrr they turned the heat off in the office
jmc, that is soooo rude!
I will swing round and see how things look and then move on. thanks. I did feel in a rough spot.
thanks!
well i would hypothetically tell the super. . . that you are not really that close but if you should happen to run in** her on a dog walk you will report back
i am sorry what did i do that was rude??
that makes sense
Oh No JMC! rude of them to turn off heat!!!!!
oh well the church is a bit on the broke side
i hate scrounging around for supper when i don't feel like cooking a meal
That I can understand. button up your overcoat!
Are you doing your volunteer hours?
i just wish they would repair the front door so i don't have to explain how to get in from the alley!
volunteer! ha!
this is where i work red
so off i go, scrounging. later, kids
bye welki
Oh Oops. I know you do some volunteer hours at one of the meeting houses...thought you might be there. Are you getting the storm?
it is suppose to hit tomorrow although they are currently saying no too bad here
and do you have bread and Milk....which is exactly what any sane person wants to eat when they can not get out.
ha! i just caught myself from entering a word in the chog
lol don't drink milk but have cabinet shelf cartons of it for making pudding
i do have bread but what i need is coffee
indeed. coffee is probably more essential than milk.
i have enough brandy that if it gets crazy i can drink coffee with brandy all day
but they are only saying 1 to 4 inches
that sounds warming.
Here we would all have to stop walking til it got melted!
well that was true when i was growing up in Houston so I am sympathetic
not like anyone there has a snow shovel
hi all
oh totally amazed this morning to find out my neighbors adopted a baby girl in July!
hi TO
hello TO! and how are you faring in the storm situation, we are of course politely discussing weather.
lol we are soooo polite
JMC! 7 months before you noticed! must be a quiet baby, or you probably work and are very busy out of the home!
did your trip to the courts work out alright TO?
they are across the street and it did arrive while i was in Kenya
yes, very easy, and fairly reasonable cost
but they walked out today with a baby carrier and I thought it was a niece or nephew!
good TO probate is not as bad as it used to be
i hear we are n for more snow :(
Well, Babies are always happy news it seems.
DO not have a heart attack shoveling it TO.
i am jus tun usch a bad mood. i am guessing i am in the anger stage of grief
oh i am so sorry TO it is tough to work through
I'm sorry TO. It's hard to lift spirits once you are in that sort of mood...with good reason.
I know that most of you disagree but I am wishing for a lot of snow and wind!!! I sure could use a snow day or at least a delay.
No problem with me Luwanda.
Have you all seen the news on the flooding in Australia. It really is terrible!
i want either enough snow to close the government so i can stay home or not enough to frighten the tourists in** wrecking their cars
?? help for the He 6 27???
i was to meet car retnal agent at 5 but they did not show up until 10 after, because folks often sand them up. meanhwile i was waiting and could have unladed my car at home, 7 minutes away. now i find i have forgotten something. car was dirty, too
hello luwanda

why so i always want to type in st? is that a word also?
i thought the pig was st 5
no the pig is an sh 5.
I think it is a different word.
st5 is an animal, but more like an ermine, not a piggie
helllloooooo Monkey.

wtg red!

ty red. i am pretty exhaused, may be giving up oon
I have to go to bed. I have this horrid 22 mile run tomorrow morning.
well there is a Po 5, something people do to eggs.
an abbreviation en5, for HUUUUGE.
a race? i met a guy who runs races, he just promoted a new years day run
no just a training run.
wow, i did not know any races req'd a training run that long
Marathons....they are 26.2 miles. so some people even train over and do 30 milers, but I dont even want to do the 22...
wow, i admire you
it is going to be very painful. My only bright spot is that my old trainer is back in town on a vacation and she is going to try to come out and pace the last 6 or so which are the worst. do nto envy me. it is just stupid.
not stupid. is it cold there?
not very. WIll be about 45 tomorrow morning. then getting to 70 in the day. I think the rest of the week will get colder...
is there a group running the practice?
Hi redturtle and TO. Sounds very disciplined, running marathons.
hello stidge
Because of my work schedule its hard to run with others, as much of the world is on a 9-5 schedule... so it will be alone, but I will be looking for Sarah at the end...yipee!
Hi Stidgmere!
oh my, what a lovely cake!
Nice to see you, two. I'm just starting the grid after finishing doing the loads of washing, folding, and putting clothes away. A little dusting and going through file drawers getting rid of old tax forms for the 1990s.
we did a very little bit of cleaning up, though it will be a chore. house is neat, i cannot imagine what it would be like for some old folks who hoard
You probably know how horrible I am changing pictures. Jillibus coaches me but I am not a good learner about this. Right, I don't think of myself as a hoarder but . . ..
things build up if you stay in one place for a long time....
heck, i am. not cats, though! :)
OK, running a hot bath! Good Night. I hope your snow TO is minimal!!!
exactly, red. so i must clean to have room for any of dad's stuff i may want
btw, can you clue the o word pls/
o + what you do to a book
and hello ((TO))
ty and hi mom!
you're welcome, TO. How much snow are you expecting?
clue for the w not wa4/9?

ty
we will be under a winter storm warning tomorrow, 3-5 inches expected
you're welcome

I am ready for this to be over
Mom, I'm from Indy and am hoping for enough to call off school.
i am bone tired. drove up from nj
down, rather.
Not all the other hassle, just no school
oh TO, that must be a long drive
I am sure the schools will be closed tomorrow
no, but tiring. i don't think my blooed has gone nack to normal yet.
that is good news TO, so glad to hear that
We don't call easy like southern IN. Suburban schools with little hills
oh they will cancel school here for a flurry
don't want to lose those tax dollars for hour delays
they sent kids home friday in the worst of the storm, at 1300, because that constitutes a full day of school. if they had waited until 3, the roads would have been cleared.
that is so dangerous to do that
i have 5n 6 huge;mwhat is the other e?
i cant find he 6 27 in more words. any clues?
en + money
ty

ni* and Tuck + vowel
I was on the phone and hadn't signed out yet when I saw your question
HI everybody; how are you all tonight?
nef!
how are you tonight, hoya? I got home from work about an hour ago, ate supper and am ready to play
i have 41 left and am relying on mom and lickety
mom and lickety sound very reliable! :-)
LOL! my DH just asked if I wanted dessert, I heard "apple" and asked for some peanut butter for it. He just gave me a bowl of applesauce with a sppon of peanut butter in it! :-D
funny
i just found a medical word that has been eluding me all day - surprise surprise!
guess I should have listened closer to what he said
gotta take a break....
a de word?
applesauce and PB actually sounds pretty good.
well, those and another ... and another. but i wasnt trying v hard earlier...
ok, i gotta go do some work, back later...
okay, so I gotta keep on my toes for a while. The PB and applesauce tastes good, the texture isn't perfect though
See you later!
fireworks here
WTG, wv!!!! YAY!!!!
YAY teach!
thanks
hey all... loading babble so it's ready when I am... about 20 minutes from finishing one paper for tomorrow. Then a little more reading. Then some random "concept mapping" (I guess...) then ... *sigh*
*fades to dull periwinkle-grey*
hi stid. YOu need a break
anyone out there with a clue for that 8 letter word?
it is op 8 Nef
the past tense of a op 6,21
need more?
thanks Bugs. How are you tonight?
had a cranky day at worksoI am just being quiet here. I need silence sometimes
got it! (I had the op 6 already) :-)
I thot you might
I had a long day at work; cleaned out some of the extra stuff in my office and then had to clean up the mess so it would make my partner happy (I job-share the work; but I'm supposed to be the manager
I work with 13/14 year olds who just love to argue and debate everything in the world!!!!! some days I just want to duct tape their mouths shut and tell them to get over it. Instead I tell them how it was in the "old days" whenI went to sschool and teachers were allowed to clobber you or chuck chalk at you. They just laugh
pn
sorry, I have a new keyboard and it is stickky
ooh. I was raised by an old-fashioned school teacher (think 1 room schoolhouse). She became County Supt. of Schools and could strike terror in both students and teachers. She said you start out witchy and then ease up and it worked out that she could manage students much bigger than her
i remember teachers throwing chalk at students
I can manage to most obnoxious of kids as long as they don't have an audience to play to. Today, other students joined in and egged them on.
Geez; our teachers used to hit us with a ruler!
really mean ones would throw the whole board eraser t Seain
erasers hurt less than chalk -- much softer
our senior prank was stealing all the whiteboard erasers -- we didn't have chalkboards in our HS
We were hit with rulers, yardsticks, paddles and the strap. No you can't even ask a boy if he will lift his shirt to check for measles without risking being charged with indecent behaviour!
once my sister mouthed off at her 6th grade teacher and got her hands hit with a ruller. She told the teacher "I'm going to tell my Aunt!" (the teacher who raised us) and the teacher said "go right ahead!" My sister got a whipping when our Aunt found out
Exactly my point NEf! in those days we were responsible for our behaviour and just got in more trouble for being disrespectful at school.
troubel at school meant LOTS more trouble at home!
is is right and proper
Now the parents call in lawyers if you talk to a kid in private about their behaviour and it is embarassing to get spoken to in public so what do you do....
not all parents are that protective of course, but it can be frustrating to have the kids take responsibility for their own behaviour
how can a kid learn to be responsible for their own behavior if that's how things are done these days?
as I say, what can you do? I listen to a lot of whining and excuses all day
okay, paper done and printing.
well done, stid :)
*Fluttering around Stid with pre-warmed slippers, a cozy warm blanket, and choclits*
HEy stid!!
hi stid
Molly you a such a dear
thanks Molly -- and Tom is getting supper ready.
Bugs (((hugs))) hard day, I see. *offers cup of hot fresh tea*
I played with 6th graders' minds today... LOL poor kids!
thanks stid. Today I was ready to take vitamin B by the handfull to help me maintain calm
thanks for the OP 8 btw
I found it myself and I have trouble with long ones
good for you bugs!
how are the 6th graders? 7 and 8 did me in today
I am looking forward to a bit of community-building tomorrow before class starts, have set up a potluck. We'll see who shows up! LOL
food is always a good idea! lol
oh, they are nice kids. still very much in the concrete thinking mode, which is unusual at this point in the year (last three classes had only one or two kids at that point by this time)
it is the biggest jump I have noticed between 6 and 7th grade
i'm back - i miss anything?
I hollered (LOUDLY) at some 8th graders who were goofing around in a space I was trying to work with a small group. Impressed my kids a LOT. And it was a chore then to get them back on task *sigh*
good for you, stid.
But I don't think these 6th graders had heard my official "teacher voice" yet... LOL nice to know it works at my "home" school as well as when student teaching!
just me whining about being cranky today hoyadoc
hey hoya
hey stid
whine away
ah, cranky is just a sign that you are noticing something that needs fixing.
true, and know what I need to do about it --- stop working with so many kids at once
I got medicine from the doc today... have had itching (for many months) in a place that one simply cannot scratch in front of children! *deliberately leaving the rest to the imagination* -- so had to rule out possibilities of skin infection or cancer. No known cause, will try hydroxyzine for a few weeks and see how it goes.
I am really relieved that I went to see someone, but just wish I hadn't had to do it while in school (I should have gone during my vacation).
boy i sure picked a good time to walk in
well, you work with some more challenging students I think bugs...
LOL hey welki! at least it's not contagious!!! **extra hugs for welki**
we had a teacher in high school who didnt speak to us for a whole lesson. When we walked into class there was a message on board saying what we had to do and under that it said |"seeing as you are all so smart already whatever the issue is I am sure you can work it out on your own"
I get the worst ones usually but they always turn out to be great when they don't have an audience
that is an interesting approach crystalle -- how did that work out?
whenever we tried to speak to him he pointed to the message
crystalle what a great idea! I bet you were all chagrined for an hour or so
ah. smart teacher!
kind of sounds like the approach i take with my kids sometimes. "you want to be in charge? ok, good luck fixing dinner and finishing and folding the laundry."
I keep having difficulty catching kids talking (side conversations) when they are supposed to be working independently.... I have a lot of awareness to develop.
the next day the message read "seeing as not one of you got yesterdays work 100% correct I assume you are not smart enough to teach yourselves therefore if u are ready for me to teach you BEHAVE AND LISTEN!!" not sure if those where the exact words but something like that
okay, I have had my 15 minute break. Time to start the next task...
LOL crystalle!
did it work?
poor stid. are you even playing Babble tonight?
We behaved and listened
thanks for being here friends! (((Hugs and choclits))) ***GOLD stars for Bugs*** will be back soonish (down to 61 bugs... it's my break from work) *poof*
I like that he didn't single any kid out with this technique and it certainly had an impact on you
it sure did
i use the very same technique on my kids and hubby. and it gets results from them too
I am putting that one into my bag of tricks. Thanks crystalle
wa6/39 pls?
wa 4,9 + not down
wa + opposite of down
ty Bugs & Peach

Thanks much hoyadoc.
what the heck is it supposed to be anyway? Some of these words are STUPID!
sure thing
looking back on highschool which i only graduated in 2000 I had pretty good teachers
crystalle, what part of Australia are you in? A nurse friend of mine is in Queensland and dealing with the flooding. I hope you are high and dry
I remember the most abusive teachers were in my elementary years.
One of them even came to my house on saturdays and after school to help me finish year 12 after i got pregnant
Luckily i am in western australia. ON the other side of aus to the floods
YAY for terrific teachers!! I am always inspired by them.
firewords for me

Congrats, Bugsaw!!!!!

She was a godsend!! without her i wouldnt have graduated and not only that she gave a very frightened young girl support through a tough time . To top it all off she bought me heaps of things for my baby

she sounds like someone who really cared about you, crystalle
you were so lucky to have such a supportive person in your life when you needed it crystalle. So was your baby!

kiss the not so little one for us and I am poofed
it tells me i already entered a word but it's not showing up on my list

Bugs, I'm over half way (thanks to your lovely company) but am not aware of what clues I need yet as I haven't listed yet
crystalle, that is a wonderful thing you are doing.
hoyadoc; sometimes it hiccups. refresh

i entered it like an hour ago

I hope your friend is ok Nef. The news reports are horrifying. Cars and houses are being swept away.

Congrats, balletslippers.
:-D usually I am more transparent, but this worked!
thanks :)
YAY ballet!!
it's all in how you bring it up, i would imagine, stid. If you act nonchalant, you're more likely to get the results you want than if you come on too strong.
okay, back to my studies. *hugs all wistfully* I think I am getting close to "done" for today.
bye stid!
back later . *poof-lite*
i think i'll take my leave as well because I've got a chocolate pie that has finally cooled and just installed Adobe Design Suite (my birthday/christmas present) so I would like to play around some. :) night ga and jilli!

By the way, congratulations to all the finishers! YAY!

I am well, thank you. I am not babbling tonight. I am just stopping here briefly to say hello to babble gang.
hello again. I've been on the phone with my aunt for the past 1 1/2 hours; My Gosh! Myy family sure talks a lot!

Hello Nef! How are you doing? Welcome to the puzzle!
Hello TeaNCrackers! How are you?Welcome to the grid
hi Min. How come you're doing the grid tonight?
No Nef, I am NOT doing the puzzle. Just getting here now & it's too late. Hope that I can babble tomorrow.
I need a hint for that di 6/21 now please
foreign money, add a vowel to the word before
Sorry, Min. I'm really tired tonight myself I know what I meant but it didn't come out correct
Sorry I cannot help you Nef, hopefully tomorrow I will.

Goodnight to my fellow babblers! I'll see you tomorrow

the feline compound words very annoying in this grd - ty Nef
they really are, aren't they?
55 left and I can't see anymore words even after a long break. Time to list I guess
wireforks! tx again Nef and all cluers - the de7 robot words were my last
YAY< dan2!!! WTG!!!
Wow! Just got an email from Amazon giving me a refund on items I bought because of an "export fee reduced"!!!
Hello again after dinner.
6 left.
hi jilli.
2 now. It's been a hard day.
Any clues for ta7?
The feline compound words really aren't that bad. One is what is on top of a feline's body and the other is what is at the very end of its tail, but reverse the compound.
Hi all.
Hello jac
The most annoying word of the day, for anyone who respects the structure of the English language is wa6/39.
how about those up6 words? Ugh.
Re the feline words, one is a thing that sticks out on a ship that they tie the anchor to and the other is an old game.
jilli - they;re not too bad, since I have heard/seen them used.
No clues forthcoming for ta7? well, off to morewords then.
*they're not what I typed, LOL
I've never heard the up6 words and never hope to.
ta7 has to do with touching, jilli.
T + the opposite of not doing anything/something.
ty jac -- and that's a word?
add a postive charge to the end of the very discreet and polite ta4/5 before it.
jilli - it is, but not one I've ever heard used.
got it, thks, jac
I did pick up a lovely word from EvaNadine earlier. 'Snausages'. Apparently it was a dog treat brand name in USA and is now what she and her hubby call sausages. However, I thought it the perfect word for the vegetarian 'sausages' my daughter eats.
and fwks
Well done, Jilli! *~*~*~*~*~*~*
ty jac -- I'm SO tired.
Lots of stress lately -- too many things to describe. I shall overcome.
Now to get the next icon.
Just read your thing about Joy Adamson, jilli. My first interest in Africa was fuelled by reading Michaela Denis's book 'Leopard In My Lap'.
Hope everything is okay, Jilli?xxx
My pet icon is my cat not quite fitting into his bed.
nothing serious, jac -- just an accumulation of things
It's lovely, jac.
hey all!
jilli - glad its nothign serious, but take time out for youself anyway.xx
Hi Stid.
*puts jill's feet up and brings her a cocktail*
My fridge conked out and I now have a new one nothing like as good as the 22-year-old one. My desktop computer conked out but at least I have this laptop. Thje htechie I hired is too busy with another job just now to help out much. Tomorrow I switch from satellite to cable and hope the 2 misbehaving TVs will shape up. My bridge partner was in a foul mood today and I lost my temper with her. There's more, but phooey.
Michaela played Debbie Kerr's double in 'King Solomon's Mines'. Some of her outer beauty was lost, if I recall after a car accident which resulted in her needed facial surgery. She then met her husband to be, Armand Denis and they embarked on their adventures. I do hope my Mum still has those books! I read them when I was 8 or 9.
Jilli - sounds like crapola, as the youngsters say. It will get better!
Thanks for the cocktail, stid, and Tom's copm[puter advice, which, combined with pini's, i shall follow as soon as I can gather my scattered wits.
ow I need a tylenol for the backache which just arrived -- back soon!
*now
tylenol is called paracetamol in UK.
I think I read King Solomon's Mines about 3 times as a kid.
I think 'ow' was prabably more apt, jilli!
Or even prObably more apt. LOL
I figured that out a while ago, jac. And here I'm not really using it, but a generic acetominophen.
Yes, today has been an "ow".
I've just looked Michaela Denis up on Wikipee. There's no mention of her car accident and scarring etc. I must ask my Mum if she's still got the books later.
brb...
If a drug is a drug, I wonder why it gets different names in UK and USA? What are the roots that the names come from? I'm intrigued.
dunno -- there's an azntihistamine here called chlortripolon, called chlortrimeton (I think) in the USA. Something to do with patents and money?
And why do some forms of the drug work better for some people than others? Paracetamol used to work fine for me, but now I need the Plus version. Beloved, however, swear by 'Anadin', which is a combination of aspirin and paracetamol.
jilli - I was just wondering about the scientific/chemistry terms that make up the words. Who makes them up, I wonder?
Whatever. The next icon theme is Dragonflies, and googling them sounds pleasant so that's where I'm going just now for a bit.
The names? The pharmaceutical companies, I'm sure.
Jac, I think that they are given different names just for the heck of it to confuse the public
Hi Nef.
hi jilli
I've noticed that 'Anadin' (a brand name) is now being advertised in one ad in 4 different forms, one's for joint pain, one's for headaches etc. What a load a crap! As every child learns, after they ask, 'How does the pill know where it hurts?', all the nerve endings in the body are dulled. So, it's yet another money-making exercise from a drug company who will get away with it because people are fooled by placebo names. And the price for the tablets varies depending on hw big the pain is.
Hi Nef.
I once went to a pharmacy continuing ed class that discussed how drug names are chosen. Basically, the brand names had to be catchy, couldn't sound like anything already on the market, and pronouncable by the general public. I can't remember the rules for the generic names though
Jilli - don't talk to my Beloved about dragonflies. He thinks they are sent to not sit still and to torment him when he has camera in hand. LOL
There are little clues -- ParACETamol and ACETominophen, for instance.
backson. bisy backson.
Yes, and most of the brand names contain a little Latin or Greek.
Nef - I'd have been interested to be at that talk.
It was years ago, Jac. Well over 15, if I remember right.
Re my Beloved wis his fancy camera... the birds make fun of him, too. They sit there and pose, and then watch him prepare his camera and bugger off while he's in mid-shot.
He gets good shots sometimes, though.
he should be ready all the time; Jac. Not just when he decides to take a picture
We came over all nerdy during our Christmas holiday together just as a couple, and went out walking and bird-watching for many of the days. It was lovely. Really enjoyed it.
Nef- if he was a wildlife cameraman for a living, he would be. However, he's a trucker, and they're pretty on the mark for photo-taking, too, most of the time.
They have to be, given some of the things that happen on the road.
I got some pretty good pictures back when I was younger and really IN to photography. I just haven't got the time or energy these days
But he's not on the road much of the time now and I know he misses it. He's mostly office-based with all the stress the 'phones bring. So, when he has free time, he likes to get out and walk in the woods, spotting birds and flora and fauna on Sunday mornings before I'm up. And, when we get chance to be together on holiday, I join him.
that sounds lovely
DE 7s clues
bleu, one has to do with the skin and one with the teeth sort of; both have robotic endings
de7 has to do with the skin. You can get a de7 cyst anywhere in your body and it can contain teeth and hair. Very yucky.
AD 7
Nef - it is.
ad7 is the thing up your nose, not a bogey. Think tubes that can get painfully blocked.
tonsils and ad7
Here's my dragonfly and writeup courtesy of Wikipedia.
fot the AD. still not sure on the DEs
I suppose I should start looking for words again if I'm going to finish the grid! I'd lost track of time for a bit!
back. work for tomorrow is complete. time to PLAY!
jilli - breathing through the rectum is the thing that stayed with me. LOL
ok got one DE, did you clue both?
jill, I ADORE the red ones! we don't actually get the big blue ones very much at our place.
b;eugirl - not, I clued the 2nd de7.
hehe, jac :-D
The first de7 is toothlike.
bleu, the words start with de and end with the robotic ending. that's 5 letters; just fill in the middle letters
I don't get dragonflies up here on the rock :-(
thanks for the de 7 words
it's too windy for them there.
i got it. monkeyed!
but you get sasquatches! LOL
Fireworxxxx
too dry too, stid
Hooray for bleu!
YAY, Bleu!!! WTG!!!
No sasquatches HERE, stid!
YAY bleu!
sure there is! I took a pic of a teenage one just a few years ago ;-)
Speaking of windy, which it has been here earlier, a pair of magpies have built a nest atop the only remaining tall branch of a birch tree in my neighbour's garden. It's whacking about like hell in the wind and they're both still sitting in it. They'vde both checked me out as a neighbour, due to me having a bird feeder, and they know I have a cat, hence the high nest.
LOL stid!
Magpies are smart. They don't live here either. We have clever crows and ravens.
we don't have magpies here, not sure why. LOTS of crows and some ravens. And eagles and herons and oh! JILL!!! I SAW A REAL-LIVE COUGAR LAST WEEK!!!!!! Just a few miles from our house!
(man, those are BIG cats!)
it was hunting (not me) and I wasn't sure at first what I had seen.... they are FAST as well as big (long, tall, and lean)
Yikes, stid!
Just before Christmas, I was sitting here at the front of the house in the office when I heard a strange noise and turned around to see a magpie clinging to my top open window and tapping on it to get my attention. That freaked me out a bit, since a single magpie, especially one tapping on your window is a portent of death. Most of my family were travelling, flying or whatever over the Christmas period. I had to tell myself not to be silly and to stop thinking about it in the end. After Christmas, I was starkers in the bathroom having a wash at the basin when I heard a magpie squeak (that's the trilling sound they do, rather than the machine gun noise they make). A magpie had alighted on the sill of the bathroom window and was peering at me through the frosted glass.
rofl... a peeping tompie!
PBS has been showing a very interesting programme about crows
I'd not got to the point of putting out bread, crushed biscuits and bird seed at that point, that day, so maybe it was just telling me it was hungry. I think I was being checked out re nest site.
I will probably put extra seed out again tomorrow, certainly on Weds if it snows as predicted.
Jill -- we have ROBINS already... they're early for here by a mo5
birdbrains are cleverer than they're given credit for
The robins are here too, stid and have been for a while!
And we're promised snow on Wednesday too
I saw something else the other day that is also an early spring bird. Wondering if the weather guys have it wrong and we are not going to have such a harsh winter after all.... or we will and the poor wee critters won't make it.
Stid, I said a peeping Tompie or pervy Magpie, too! LOL
I have lots of suet out for the birds, and seed bells
snap, Jac!
We have wintering Anna's Hummingbirds here now too.
i have lots of cardinals -- so beautiful against the pristine snow
Well, it's only January and the magpies are already making nests. There are fat buds on both mine and my neighbours' lilac trees. But the heron is hungry, is haunting gardens without ponds, or with water but no fish like ours is.
bonsoir, chere une! comment ca va?
No cardinals here, une :-(
oh Une... ***many many hugs*** I hadn't heard yet. I am so sorry
The starlings can't get enough of the suet.
sa mere was tres belle!
hey, stiddy -- it's been a rocky week but Mother's visitation and funeral were beautiful and attended by several hundred friends and family -- quite a tribute to an extraordinary woman
Une - so sorry to hear about your Mum.xxxxxxxx
I am glad so many people were there for her. And for you.
thanks so much . . .
No starlings here just now either. A flock passes by once in a while but they don't stay.
Oh, une I hope that was a bit of comfort to you.
yes it definitely was
there. reached 100. I am SO tired. My eyes are giving out, too. so I will make the text really big and just chat a while...
brb again
I don't know what advice to give about losing a parent. Life goes on and you must, too. The pain gets less sharp, most of the time, but you can still be taken unawares when you least expect it by a tune or a smell, a song or a view. That's life.
une, I am sorry for your loss. It is hard to lose your mother, no matter what the circumstances.
so true, Jac . . . we were very close and I have soooo many wonderful memories
tx so much kimm
Une; I'm so sorry for the loss of your mother. My deepest sympathy to you. (((Uneaixoise)))
I still have my Mum, thank God, but I miss my Dad almost every day, even 7 years on.
tx nef . . . she will be missed terribly
I don't care how old or young you are; in my experience, the loss of a mother is something you never get over.
I lost my mom when I was 8; a friend who was 81 lost her mom (who was 104) and there is a hole in each of our lives. My Dad's death and the deaths of the Aunt and Uncle who raised me wasn't nearly as hard
My Dad was lovelyy and my Mum annoys the hell out of me most of the time by finding every opportunity she can to belittle or make a fool of me in public, whilst doing her best for me in the background. I'm not sure what thats about and I'll probably never know, but I will miss her when she's gone. I've tried to be very different with my own daughter, showing how much I love her, whilst also leaving her free to lead her life as she wants to, but being there to hug etc., when she needs to touch 'Mumbase' or 'Motherplanet', as she's called me.
oh, nef, 8 . . . I can't imagine -- I was very lucky to have my wonderful mom for 84 years
My Mum's not a bad person, but very fragile re her ego. Sometimes that erupts in mild violence but mostly, she confines herself to trying to be funny by making fun of me.
must go but will be back after the flip *poof*
I have a feeling that she resented me when I was born, because she saw my Dad fall in love with his baby daughter.
Her Dad was a bit of a swine who beat both is wife and his children, in the Victorian fashion.
My Mum left home at 15 to live with her then boyfriend's older sister and her husband. (My Dad's sister, Joan.)
Dad was doing National Service at the time.
so not a happy life for her
au revoir, Une **hugs**
what is national service? military?
Jac, I just looked at your profile. Those cakes are fabulous!
Thanks Kimm.
Do you just do that for fun? Or do you get paid to bake?
stid - National Serive was being called up for the Military services.
Not exactly for fun, Kimm - but to feed the family, yes.
tipa
there I go again! Good thing this grid is almost up!
thanks Jac. Like our draft.
Stid - I think it was called National 'Draft' re Vietnam etc., in USA.
okay, I am toast. which is what kimm always makes me think of with her name -- I think she is "kim-n-toast" if I don't look carefully enough!
AND I am rambling, which is never a good sign.
*hugs and choclits for everyone!* be well, be safe, be warm, be happy. *poof*
I'm off to bed now. Happy Babbling for those of you still gridding.x
bye stid -- take care!
and I see it's nearly 6 am in the UK...
have a good sleep, jac!
hello
well, I won't finish again. Good night all; Happy Babbling!
hi everyone, I hope we have another small one
tomorrow's busy
