I've always been a "passive birdwatcher", as it is too hard to see them in the wild. I have kept a feeder right outside the window on the nearest tree and have been able to identify birds whilst they're eating
Do you draw/paint them as well?
I used to draw owls, but only from photographs, to sell, when I was exhibiting. I only have one of the drawings left

not much new on my end...was out in san diego for 3 weeks in january...work stuff...and then got hit by that nasty flu that was going around...worst two weeks of my life
San Diego sounds nice... flu does not. That was going around here too.
san diego was excellent...wouldnt want to live in CA tho...was quite nice to visit ...and i was living in SD before I came back here to norfolk for this job

i lived there for 9 years...didnt realize how little i liked CA until i moved back here
I realized it the whole time I was there. Of course, I was a lot more negative then.

north of LA...i was in rolling hills and long beach...and then SD for a year
I was in flat, smoggy land. At least The Cheesecake Factory was immediately across the street. Oh, and I didn't know how to drive when I lived in LA.

Managed to live within 1 mile of work, supermarket, and bank. And cheesecake.

The other Moms (there were three as both parents are remarried) wore long dresses. I got a knee length one because long dresses are not my thing. Everyone looked nice and it turned out fine.

they came to repair the furnace, stid, but had to ORDER the parts which took 2 days! and then it was just a temporary repair -t he system is ancient (although I hate saying that, it's still 25 years younger than me!)
well it was a very nice thing my brother-in-law did, which was to drive almost 2 hours to be here on the day of the installation so he could deal with the tech guys, he speaks their language
oh man... that's rough. I am starting to think about needing to replace our furnace, which is 11 (same age as the house) -- I would like something a lot more efficient, especially with the increasing price of propane.

i was in scranton, pennsylvania. miss it like crazy.
oh, I don't know scranton - haven't been to PA in over 30 years. But what I remember of that area was lovely rolling hills.
yeah...not far from the appalachian trail, which i was very fond of.
LOVED the trail. Lived in VA 7 years and we hiked a bit of it (I was VERY young though, and STILL won't go "camping" LOL)
lol...my son and i hiked the entire maryland section once...sounds grand, but it was only 42 miles, but such an excellent experience.
LOL the younger stidkid says he will GLADLY trade in the old-model elder sibling for a new one... he'll even throw in some of his favorite pretzel treats!

i remember, whilst walking it, going through a country park and seeing a soda machine was like manna from heaven. lol

I'm feeling guilty today. The neighbourhood cat< Max, a beautiful golden Burmese, came for a visit this afternoon because I had left the bedroom door to the deck open for fresh air -- it was sunny and warm. He spends most of his days outside because his person has 3 dogs, and Max is so friendly and in need of affection, I think. Anyway I enjoyed his company as he roamed around the house, and I spent some time sitting on the deck with him on my lap, purring and snuggling. The the sun went in and I had to remember that he isn't my cat. I went in the dinette door and kept him outside, then he jumped up and wailed, looking so hurt that I hadn't let him back in. I feel really bad about it.
Oh yes -- tell me about your mother's pup -- that was a big surprise!

Well, his name is Murphy (which actually is an old family name of Mother's), he is a yellow lab (but right now mostly white), and he sleeps a lot.

What prompted the acquisition of Murphy?
I am not sure, jill -- I am not entirely sure it was a GOOD idea, but have to admit that in the week they have had him he has really captured their hearts.

It will mean a bit less freedom to take of on lengthy travels, unless they know of a really good house-sitter or boarding kennel -- or you get to keep him when they're away...
lucky is jealous enough that some days when I come back from Mother's I need to shower before he calms down.
He isn't allowed in my parents' house because he is so big.
Well, we can house-sit, or the boys can. BUT I think they won't be traveling any more.
They also have the option to have him vacation with the people who bred him -- they are a lot like you, from the descriptions I have heard. Very dedicated to the proper care of their animals, and insistent that owners treat them right.
Well, if Murphy is a lab he'll get to be Lucky's size, won't he? And I guess your dad will be busy wiping the floor on muddy days...?
anyway, I know that if I stay until flip, I won't get the next piece done on my presentation. I must away...
and yes, he'll be a big fellow once he is grown. that is my concern. He might get to be too much for them. If that happens, he has a home with us. What's another horse or two? LOL

By then, I hope to have a fence in the back for them. And I will try to remember to get the video, but I am not sure how that will go.
I hope they're going to take him to obedience training.
