every Friday the theme is "a words from the grid which will be a clue" -- fun!
they ring the bells at my local church (100 yards away) every wednesday evening and i hear the sound - it's lovely

the pre-college preparation of our students is, in many cases, appalling. I have students who can't write a complete sentence or do simple arithmetic.
Don't they have remedial classes they must take
yes but it puts them way behind and uses up resources. they shouldn't be allowed to graduate from high school without minimal skills, imho.
and while they are taking the remedial courses they are also in regular college courses such as mine.

So, two students have been charged with attempted murder, among other things, in the shooting of a third student (who is in one of my classes) last night. Student is still alive but in critical condition, was airlifted to a nearby larger hospital this morning.

it's our local school/district. K-8 in three connected buildings. If you include the high school students (bused into the closest town) we have about 850-900 students.
I am like you -- pain over gorked most days... I don't even like the feeling of mild sedation a glass of wine gives!

It's lovely, and with generally wonderful people. The focus (unlike some places) is really more on the children than on the ubiquitous tests.

I love the big shore birds.
Blue herons are my totem bird. I saw one under a willow this weekend, which happens to be my root tree. It was a beautiful sight.
