I find the French very nice, especially if you can speak the language. I had much more trouble in Italy, where I don't. The only problem when yo're alone, is theft in rail stations
jbv, I traveled by myself throughout much of western Europe, no problems (and when I wasn't by myself I had my then-young son with me). I also speak French, and a little German (enough to get a meal and a hotel room) and never had any problems

I'm too old for much travel now; the last time I went to London (alone), I found it very scary

oh, I wasn't even talking about terrorist threats in airports and planes and such, I just meant feeling confident moving around in strange cities, talking to people, getting into taxis and stff
I spent every summer in Europe from 1970 to 1976 -
when I went to London for a family party last year, I wound up taking subways and was terrified, but the taxis were just insanely expensive
I was a teacher and it was very cheap back then - round trip for $199 !

getting more time off these days now that the newbie is taking call?
yeah; she still calls to check things, and i've had to stay late a few times to help, but so far have not had to go back in in the middle of the night for anything on her call nights.

I took vacation this week; my sister from Montana was visiting Mon- through Wed. and DH and I need to rest up after that. :-)

no, I guess not. However, it does change how I feel about attending another baseball game in the near future. The print on the tickets explaining a rain out was so small I couldn't read it!

We've had baseball in the Metro Dome til last year (when DH was too sick to go to a game); so I didn't know what the rules were about rain outs
I had to use 2 of DH's magnifiers to see it and still had trouble! Maybe I need to get my eyes checked...

We've enjoyed going to games through the years. My sister is a huge Twins fan; so when she comes we try to see a game
Now that DH needs handicapped seating; I thought buying the tickets a few weeks ahead was a good idea.
