Night, Just!
Hiya, Jake!
night, Dee! (was off waiting out the nightly hiccup)
Hi Jaianniah
Wonder if Dr_God is on the old US daylight saving time
May explain why Lickety announced clues were up an hour early too ... he had the right day even though the clues were for the day before
hi babble
lickety doesn't babble at all only mrp does so if he did not take the time into consideration he would not have realised
he may have thought oh its after 3 better do clues!!
and how are you
Hello, Andree ... hope you are finding time for sleep
i got a bit more last night and have high hopes for tonight
its a short time in a dogs life, this crying whwn left alone and should not last long, I hope
Good morning/evening all. Andree, just passing through, but what a lovely photo of the children with Hugo!
they were my helpers when i picked him up
They look so thrilled!
The good thing is that you'll get Hugo housetrained and sleeping through the night much faster than a baby.
they are, hugo and i have just been to birthday party for one of the 3 year olds
I'm sure he was the main attraction.
he was, my oldest grandaughter who is 14 took over, she wanted to take home home!
You have quite a spread of ages with your grandchildren.
the best thing for hugo and i at the moment is that Jules is in NZ with the kids to visit her birth family so hugo and i are bonding really well
14,12,10,6,6,3,3
I was talking to a lady the other day who has 4 children ranging from 19 to 5. Quite interesting for her to be waving one off to university and the other off to primary school.
She was saying how much things had changed at school from when the first had started, with different methods and approaches being used.
wow these of mine are from my 3 kids so in each family quite close in age
I remember being horrified when both my girls were taught a completely different method of subtraction. They called it decomposition and by the time they had finished the sum was illegible with crossings out and numbers added.
I had to check using the old method, that's if I could work out what the sum had been in the first place.
decomposition sounds like green math
when my kids were at the american school when we lived in Bangkok , i was up complaining about the spelling on a regular basis
I know. I remember arguing that decomposition was what happened to dead bodies.
education system is totally different to when mine went to school
They did still learn their multiplication tables although I don't think they sat rhyming them out loud as we had done.
Agreed, Andree. Again, having done languages, I was nonplussed when the system seemed to be to avoid talking about grammar at all costs and to just bumble around trying to make sense.
i don't think they learn those any more
mr 6 has learnt to read and spell very quickly this his first year at school, I don't see much eveidence of math though
He'll probably be doing it without him or you knowing. Stealth maths.
pity his granma can't spell,lol
Oh, I don't think you're too bad! You're still ahead of him for a while yet.
Just had a phone call from daughter no 2 confirming our go-ahead to book flights to Dubai for a visit in November to a university friend. That child likes to make use of her passport.
Hello. I'm sitting here freezing to death 'cos the gas fitters are here fitting a new boiler etc., and they have all the ruddy doors open.:( I've still got electricity but possibly only until the electrician arrives. (Apparently, gas fitters aren't allowed to touch electrics these days. No wonder the labour costs are so high!)
what does not cease to amaze me with these kids even 10 year old, they can do the most amazing things with a computer
passports die if you don't use them every 6 months
Hello Jacula and Ata.
hi jac and ata
Haz - my daughter's the same. She's just got back from Canada.
I know, Andree, and they go so fast and so confidently. I'm still sitting there reading the small print in case I blow the thing up.
mine did all that in her early 20's
hello everybody
I don't begrudge her - she loves to travel. Her sister loves to stay put.
small grid today, usually means trouble
Hello jacq.
i can't get past 38 words
heya haz
heya jac
Did your daughter enjoy Canada, Jac?
hello andree
38 to go or 38 down?
worried now
52 to go
I've got further than that, but haven't added many words lately. I wonder if that's down to me chatting or down to the words getting harder?
so it's a hard one?
The thin porridge that is Spangle's daily food is there.
that was my first word :0
And take off the last letter for another.
I typed it in, Ata, and thought of you!
the big bird is fun. Good morning everyone
Quite east, jacq ... many finishers ... just like always find the words and then stop looking
easy
have those g's the missing one is the next g
ha ha ha, good morning BR
hello
hi eve
Good morning, nice to see you, Eva.
up much too early, but so it goes.
Jac, will you have one of those fancy new boilers that gives you instant hot water?
I'll have to wait to find out the answer. I'll be back later. Bye for now!
bye haz
bye haz
be well, Haz
bye dear!
Haz - Sorry, I was off making tea for the workmen.
Yes, daughter loved Canada.
Re. boiler - no, not going for a combi boiler. Sticking with the old kind.
Are getting rid of the radiators, Jacula?
BR - No.
Just replacing 30-yr-old boiler and having new thermostate & programmmer and one new bigger radiator for a room that's been extended.
Can't spell today! Thermostat.
morning, could I have a clue for the Single E, either one, i seem to be E less at the moment.
ep4 - long film?
a long book or movie is an ep**
ahhh thanks!
er5 - a volcano does this.
Thanks again, those were fish worthy I am afraid... I probably need a bit more sleep.
y/w red.
36 left and am struggling here
FIREWORKS!:-)
wtg jac!!!!!!
rept
25 to go and leaving for a bit, have fun and fireworks all
Bye Jacq, struggling here with 71 left..LOL
13 left and stuck
Hello, Ata
hi zooz!
i`m not liking this grid today, some tricky words i feel.
there's a lot of silly 4 letter words
and goodness knows what some of the J words are
ok this is strange i have just opened expert, and it has todays date on it but not todays grid on it..lol
we think that was something to do with daylight savings changing in Aus
lickety updated the clues an hour early - but that was still yesterday in grid time
well, last nite, lickety announced in the chog "clues are up!" -- but it was an hour before the flip! :-)
that was the best sufggestion anyway!
i see, so expert is no good today then
noooope
in fact lickety is no good at all today, nevermind, will be good for my brain..hahaha
fry your brain more like!
LOL, you are not wrong there Ata :-)
Here's a cryptic clue for one of the j word. It starts a Stone Rolling.
(Feeling smug because I've got the j words)
haz! la groomed and gorgeous glitterata!
ty!
Indeed! We're just about to head out on our morning walk, the sun is shining.
You're welcome - (for the j word).
ooo lucky you! it's horrid here
it is dark and foggy here
yes not nice here either, thanks for the `j` word Haz :-)
I've no idea what the forecast is so we'd better make the most of it. Hello zooz and Eva.
hi haz
enjoy!!
lipoan
sorry!
*everyone tries lipoan* lol
I will. See you later. Bye!
glad to know it's not just me(-{
bye, Haz
ok, I give up for now. 9 left! bbl!
take care Ata.
Good morning/day to all.
hello,Scrabs
bbl
Monkeys are in use early today.
Am I alone with the lurkers?
looks that way, scrabbler
Hi cece!
mornin'
good morning everyone;0
ah..a non-lurker!!
Where do you live, cece? East coast?
north central
scwabby!
Crossy! I am doing my shower project--you would be so proud---insulation, vapor barrier, Wonderboard done so far. 32 x 37 in area approx
yaaaa!
Cece, I am southeast of Buffalo
reel
Cross, next step = place tiles. I assume starting from bottom and working up?
oops
I already had it, Cross, no worry.
i haven't been to that area in years. grew up in NH/VT used to visit Buffalo a bit.
yes,from bottom up
And I have the soap holder too--I have to get that in the right place.
You left New England, cece? How could you? Burlington is my fantasy home.
did you go with traditional heavey ceramic soap dish insert/
scrabbler - is this a DYI project?
That's what I have and that's what started this mess--nephew tore it off wall but tiles were already loose--my fault for not being proactive
It sure is, cece! And Crossy has been instructing me
i would reconsider that type of soap dish
yes, some days I don't know what I was thinking!!
What shall I do instead, Cross?
they have really nice tetro type 50,s wire soap dishes that stick on,instead of making another great hole in the wall, which was the problem in the first place
retro
The soap dish unit was stuck on like a tile.
remember, its only a bar of soap..dont know who,s idea it was to stick a 10 pund piece of ceramic in the wall for it in the first place;))
lol crossy. Plus the wire one is much easier to clearn!
ahh
I did wonder myself--grabbing handle puts wall at risk
indeed lady
and you dont get gooey soap
Good idea, crossy! Easier project now. I bought extra tiles--not an exact match but close
right. I love DIY projects!
you can never get exact, not to worry
me too, cece==I redid 2 bathrooms--new floors, paint, etc. Fun to do.
scrabbs,if you have the insulation, the vapour barrier and the wonder board up..the hard part is done!!
And every trip to The Home Depot or Lowe's gives me ideas for another project.
ain't that the truth. my son calls home depot our toy store! we've replaced all the floors and the kitchen.
Drilling the screws into the Wonderboard while holding up that board was the toughest part! I have blisters on my right palm.
I want new ceramic or stone tiles in kitchen + hallway
oooo.
now THATS a project:)
I must get ready for work very quickly now! In other shower, of course. Enjoy the day!
there was a tile store going out of business and i bought 2 ceramic tiles designs...now what to do with them!!!
tc scrabby
take care scrabbler
Well, Cross, I don't think I would do that flooring project myself.
Pay someone to do it now, cece.
think so!!
when leveling a floor after stripping it,remember 1 word scrabby....thinset,it will be your best friend
then you just lay your floor tiles right over top
there is also this yellw insulating waffle type matt that can be used on top of the thinset and before the tile..it is fairly new you will have to ask about it.helps keep the footies warm on that new tile
that's a good idea since radiant heating in the floor is expensive!
your right lady, radiant heatis very expensive but scrabby may have the wherewithal to consider it,but is mostly used as a whole house solution not just a hall way or a kitchen
I think if I lived where you do i would consider it also!
when your laying pipe for radiant heatm iit is easier just to run the livingroom, hallways, bathroom and kitchens and bedrooms all at same time
add 25% to cost of house
that makes sense, but seems it would increase the value also.
oh very much so!
hi all, is there a list anywhere? lickety has right date but wroong stats
well, guess i better get to work, have a good day crossy.
I just figured that out after noticing there is no S on the board :)
"wrong"
lol same here
only took me 30 minutes :)
ill post list in my profile
I have a tile floor I didnt put the heating under and oh my goodness durning the winter!
If I ever did it again, I would put the heating wires down, no mater what the cost
ok,todays list is in my profile for thosw who need it
not wires sue,it is actually piping for hot water, and a whole other hot water tank is involved alnog with special glycol additive
and a whole seperate sub floor
I just know I would do it to save money on heating a room
they use water heating at my college
it sounds very cool outside
it is a lovely heat..you feel it coming up tween yer toes
Cross, what about leaks
is it accessable?
leaks dont happen, they make sure of it
it is not readily accesable, but can be done if needed
I asked my school to consider using my house as a project for solar heating, I am awaiting an answer
now thats a subkect near and dear to my heart, alternative heating/power sources;))
I love the idea
www.wind2power.com
they are still so very expensive though
you use a combo sue, some wind,a few solar panels and a rooftop solar, water heater for hot water tank
I love the idea, but I am also in the "city".
converting the average 2 bedroom brick bungalow to wind power totally will cost $12,000 dollars plus installation
but if the school comes up with a Yes, I will try to do all they say
:)
here it is about $10,000 a panel I am told
you will need panels, storage batteries, and the most expensive part a dc to ac power converter thats wired into you breaker panel
but if they will sponsor even enough to do 2 sockets...
I want to do it so badly
I am sure there is a lot of gov. help
there is no finer feeling that being of the "power company tit" :)
off
I know
they can buy from me
I kept my house Gas for the most part to be sure of heat, hotwater and food during power loss
that happens also with turbine aplications.i know a guy who get monthly cheques for 85 dollars from ontario hydro;)
his turbine wind system was paid for in 5 years
oh man
I love that
does the ap6 come off the 5?
he uses all baeboard heat of course and the only things he had to buy special was the fridge and the freezer
and they are not really baseboards, more like a wall mounted box heater with a small blower fan
I have one of those and a gas fireplace w/a blower
with 3 boys I feel like I support the electric company
nobody ever turns off the lights
arggggg
when you do the toal conversion, keep the gas fp and the gas stove
you bet, this is still the south
I love my gas
but now your blower fan for fp will run on your juice not someone elses:)
ca7 clue?
is it a compound?
you are using the energy saving 'pig tail" light bulbs right sue?
since they came out
they had a sale at HD and I cleaned them out
good girl, each 13w bulb will save you 50 dollars in hydro over the life of the bulb
hi all
howdy boo
I am a student, my elect bill this time was 135, last yr 329
hi boo
airconditioning is taking a shower, turning on the fan and going to sleep fast
oh and suethey now have theese "passive fans" to move the heat from your fireplace they are heavy and have metal heat sink fins and turn and move the air totally from the radiant heat from your stove..no electric fan needed!
nice
best fro free standing wood stoves..not inserts
lol dont kinow where you live sue,but up here we thing about heating more than cooling,i should of asked first lol
afternoon all - any clue for the ap 5 please
ok,crossy is done pontificating and holding forth, back to some grid actoin;)

Hi Babblers today is the first time I have been able to play a grid for ages!
hi FM & BabRab
why FM?
Hello, folks
Darn life has been geting in the way but today I have babbled and won! *grin* Hi BR :)
hiya buddies
Hi BDG
Hello, Book Doctor Gwen
hi Gwen
FM!!!!
Ata!! HI ther how are you?
i'm having my toilet fixed again, weeee
weeee being the definitive word there DRG !
tired!
know that feeling Ata
I hate the darkening mornings and evenings
and the persistent rain that we have had to day too :(
well i'm in an apartment, manager of bldg lives right below, me, and she says when my toilet runs and she's in shower she gets scalded. Ouch
whereas we have just started daylight saving, looking forward to the longer evenings
Owch indeed BDG!
So, she sent guy to fix it, without me even complaining about it. Guy came but got called away for a furnace emergency before he fixed toilet.
Our clocks go back at the end of the month but it is already pretty much dark now at 18.43 *le sigh*
at least he didn't disable toilet and then leave. that would be serious lol
exactly! I have to change my hobbit walking routine
(imagining leashing and walking a hobbit)
LOL
I'm used to taking her out at 6am!
Oh don't, my early moring wake up call of the dawn chorus has gone to sleep, that and the light of the sun coing up - I hate this time of year.
BRB
good evening fellow babblers :)
hi soodle
hi Soodle
Evening Soodle!

gn4.6
hi Katie
Just had to eject a rather large spider Gah!!!!!!!!
gr 5/16
ty book
keep the spider away from the hobbit!
8-D
any o clues
ich FM . . .oh I when I first read that I thought you ATE it!
bad spider! send it over here, sily will eat it
oi5, related, rhymes with someone who tells you the end of the movie
Houston now Tenn. football team the Oi***s
LO and yech jmc! Im still quivering.
ewww
no spiders are good they eat mosquitoes!
I like spidrs
not many mosquitoes here
its getting to cold here for spiders.. Please keep them there
finally got the tree ca7
except when they crawl on you
I hear a bat can eat over 4000 mosquitoes in a night - give me bats everytime!!
jmc we don't get mossies here much in the UK and this rachnid was arather large speciming for these parts. *shudder*
I am sure they eat other terrible things like flies!
i too keep spiders. they usually stay in the corners and eat the other bugs
Hi Deeha
now if they ate moths that would be worth keeping them fore
but the UK sounds more appealing knowing there are no mosquitoes there
One good thing about getting older - you know tose black floaters you get in your eyes - I assume anything that moves is one of those and I dont look too closely!!
I am afraid of bats because when I was a very little girl there was a rabid bat epidemic
Hi all just having a quick babble with a glass of wine and a bowl of olives
awwww, bats are cute
what grows on this ca7 tree?
I can cope with spiders but this one was sitting in the the middle a cushion and was at least 2 inches across which for me means I hae to get the hoover out and go ewwwwww a lot.
sounds good dee
it is an aussie tree from the myrtle family
now that's a big spider!
Yup I should have heard it clumping across the carpet BDG!
I keep telling myself that bats are good but every time one is in my house I run outside screaming like a girl no matter what time of day and what I have on!
bad spider!
bats eat even more bugs that spiders do, generally speaking (except for fruit bats which eat fruit)
and of course since I am terrified of them I have seen them in my house multiple times!!
LOL jmc - I can happil ycope with bats, snakws beetles .. anything but spiders just give me the heebee jeebeees.
jm, you might try putting up a bat house outside, or at the top of your house . . .
I have run out in a very very light weight nitie at 3 in the morning!
. . . to attract them away from the parlor and stuff
ROFL - but I feel for you too :)
I sat on my front stoop until a neightbor got up for work at 5 a.m.
and stop leaving little bat treats out on the table lol
*mental note to clean up bat treats*
Ata did you happen to watch Stephen Fry last night?
as much as I know that bats are good I cannot overcome it
finally found a 7, woot
no, I didn't. what was he doing?
ref the Kakapo of New Zealand?
all critters are good. except fruit flies LOL
not the Kakapo! LOLOLOL
Yes!! It was utterly brilliant!!
catnap
oops
yay, the toilet guy is back
esp when one tried to mate with one of the team!
*checks out PB for bats before entering*
yep - Mark Cawardine
yea toiler guy!
Any clues for the CA 7/60 please?
jmc - I made sure the PB is bug and mammal free unless with prior invitation.
that is an australian tree from the myrtle familiy soodle
oh crepe, toilet guy left again, coming back tomorrow.
ty fmitch
I saw teh funniest card yesterday but can't think of anyone to send it to
wow was it worth his effort of telling you or did he just leave his tools at yours
bummer book
it was in the pet section
well, i'm in apartment bldg with 80 units, he is going to fix something else first, could be a furnace, which take priority over a running toilet, since it's getting cold hereabouts
it had a serious looking cat on the front and said. . .
ca7/32 = opp of not able to do, plus twice the Brits short form of saying thanks.
Jmc - not big on Australian plant-life - any other clue
My deepest sympathies for you owning a dog.
lol jmc
I have that one, FM, its the first CA7
ca+high point tile+vowel+ opp. of take
Rats just clued the wrong ca7 sorry
Bry got a 40th birthday card which had a picture of a cat with a party hat, it said "I know what your thinking".........
loooool jmc
ca7 ca & **sus will save you & *** the cat out
but my dog owner friends would be offended and it is pointless to send to cat owners
and inside read "GET THIS HAT OFF ME!"
lol katie!
LOL
finally got the tree. TY jm!
yw
Thanks all - just got the Aussie tree!
help with pe7 (is there a pe 7 I seem to remember someone saying there was)
big beaky bird
ty
A bird with a huge capacity in it's bill
that ca has a 6 and three 2s (tile scores) and is the first word I've collected with that assortment of tile scores. (in case anyone cares)
so what are the stats on the 4th 7 word?
the first ever book?
i have a ta7 and a ca7. that's it. 8-)
there is a ta7/36
jm, yes, the first ever. if you can come up with another word that fits, i'm interested to know
there are 2 ca7 and one pe 7
ta7/36
I will work on that Book
oooh, found a ca6. still hunting
got the ta7 ty fm
ah, ca7, a type of musical work with several movements
hello everyone, back to finish hopefully
hi Jacq
hi to jacq and scotland!
heya lynxxx and Dr Gwen
and scotland says hello and Brrrrrr back
ju5.22 a new fish!
i thought ju5 was superman's dad. LOL
hi jac
heya jmc
can anyone clue the pe7? i'm stuck
it's a bird with a scoop beak eats fish, or it's a type of pedestrian crossing
pe7 large bird, very large beak, lives near water
the brown pe7 that was almost extinct is now commonly seen flying in the Gulf Coast again
pe7: from my childhood: "pity the poor *******, his beak can hold more than his belly can"
good one buff
oo jac is that a brit term? I never heard that!
a pedestrian crossing? why are they called that Jacq?
i have no idea lynxxx
apparently it features a standard set of traffic lights with a push button to operate the lights for crossing
TY buff, and smack me with a flounder
we sometimes call them Zebra crossings, as the lines are painted on an angle
i love google
i understand that a pe7 crossing is painted in crosshatching, whereas the zebra crossing is striped
pe7/36 crossings in the UK have flasing lights on them, Zebra crossings hae back and while tarmac stipres layed down on the road.
there are pegasus, toucans, and tigers too
crosshatch here means you can't enter it if your way is blocked unless turning right
i think it's because of the lights
The official name is Pelicon crossing (short for pedestrian light controlled crossing)
thats clever
here in the US we have zebra crossings, but no one knows that they are, and pedestrians are fair game (except in a few places)
in my area they just constructed two roundabouts, which they are testing out, in a fairly rural area, to see if USian drivers can handle them
they can't lol. Astoria's 1 roundabout is notorious for cluelessness
you see, we USian drivers have high crash rate and high idiot-at-the-wheel rate
LOL all these lights and stipes! - HAve things to do - lovely to chat and clue. happy Babbling all. Ata if you happened to be on yahoo *grin*
Roundabouts are good. We have quite a lot
bye FM
i favor the roundabout over the standard intersection, for saving fuel. it is an improvement over the "michigan left"
I can't I can't - going out in a sec - will explain all tomorrow!
roundabouts are great for traffic control, but in Elgin (the flood town) there are 7 roundabouts in less than 2 miles and it causes chaos
k
i think that would be too many roundabout all right. OY
the Magic Roundabout is the scariest!
it's a nightmare because it actually blocks the free flow of traffic between the roundabout at the shopping centre and bus station and the one 50 yards away for the supermarket and the main aberdeen - inverness trunk road and the hospital
what's a michigan left?
our "test" roundabouts have 2 giant signs for each approach, showing exactly how the thing works, and they have sensible arrows in all the lanes showing where to go
in DC there are sting operations to ticket people who don't stop for pedestrians (tourists) a principal part of our economy
"michigan left" = turn right, go 1/4-mile, turn left into the viaduct, turn left again, voile
lol
but it still isn't like canada where they come to a screeching halt if you are near the edge of a curb
the "michigan left" eradicate turning left in an intersection, and reduces accident rate, since lots of accidents involve left turns
michigan lefts are common all over the place, in michigan, but pretty rare in other states
I was waiting for a car to drive past me on a 4 lane street and it came to a sudden halt and I walked up to the window and asked where in canada they were from
lol jmc, and were they?
UPS apparently routes all their trucks to avoid all left turns and it saves them 10% in gasoline
jm, they were cdn??
oh yes, they were
in salt lake city drivers will stop for pedestrians, religiously. and i mean that, literally. other big cities, though, watch your ass
never saw the like anywhere else than canada
in salt lake they were pretty good
So canadians are really really polite or else they had a program of massive fines if you don't give pedestrians right away?
was in salt lake at a convention once, and we were given info about how drivers would stop for us, and so of course i tested that and yes, they stopped for pedestrians. freaking amazing
You be watching your posterior and your anterior likely will become acquainted with another car
canadians are really polite. and damn good drivers. in my experience 10% of US drivers know what they're doing, 90% of canadian drivers know what they're doing
(give or take)
it's a real joy, and rare occasion, to see someone driving intelligently here
i once saw a trucker save maybe 50 lives by avoiding a crash that would have been caused by an idiot in a coupe
I am amazed. all those scary freeways and highways - I thought Americans would be quite accomplished drovers
drovers! drivers
some are; some aren't lynxxx
most truck drivers are
and canadians are just freaking polite!
Anyway must get going, bye everyone...and "Be Careful Out There!"
you too, Sgt
i heard a statistic once that 80% of crashes involving a truck and a car were caused by the car driver
i would say 99% of truck drivers are fantastically good drivers
Having been a truck driver, I agree ..
please tell that to the psycho east european drivers that drive through kent!
the close call I had was the fault of the truck driver because he did not look for me before he started changing lanes
but I would say that was the exception
hey, just talking about US truck drivers that I've been on the road with. lol
whereas, every day, i see all sorts of bad drivers of passenger cars. riding on the line, swimming from lane to lane, tailgating, speeding recklessly, not signalling, signalling a mile before their turn, signalling all the way across town, etc
well, i'm going to have a snack now, BBL
we have a very specific issue in Kent - a lot od eastern european lorry drivers coming across the Channel and landing in Kent with *no clue* how to drive over here, and even which side of the road to drive on
yikes!
PE 7 - clues, please
I don't think I would try to drive in the british isle because I would keep forgetting which side
yeah ... it's always interesting around here
a bird known for its large bill that lives near the ocean soodle
bye book
Thanks JM - I can just see that fish in its bill!!
help with the far right e singleton pls
I love driving in the US - so wasy compared to here
*easy
Could use that one meself ..
why is it easy here ata?
Titanic was an ep** film
ep4
sigh speaking of fish
I have the N word that has to do with you neck could I have stats for the other one please? and hello everyone
hi mel
hardly anyone on the roads, comparatively, much bigger turns, no roundabouts!
there are some roundabouts (circles as we call them) here
DC has quite a few
n and 3 vowels
we have them every 100m!
don't know where you are driving to say hardly anyone on the road either!
they are just starting to put them in here in Eugene Or, but when I lived in Bend oregon there were quite a few of them
ty jac
I've driven in oregon, los angeles
LA and you say few!?!?!
didn't know how to clue it
doh I know that word how could I have missed it lol thank you
omg yes
LA is bliss compared to LOndon!
on the freeways?
yep
london is awful to drive in
the city I had the most trouble driving in was Denver Colorado
I would be interested to hear how london compares with NYC
honestly, LA is easy compared to most UK cities
Saigon and its French circles was such a joy
you have 6 lane roads, the biggest roads going into London are 2 - maybe 3 -lanes each way
welp learn something new every day
The unsafe actions of automobile drivers are a contributing factor in about 70 percent of the fatal crashes involving trucks. More public awareness of how to share the road safely with large trucks is needed. http://tinyurl.com/yagbajd
LA is well layed out at least streets are in straight lines more or less, when someone is going to like texas I tell them to drive to LA and hang a left LOL
I love scaring one of my US friends driving around here, especially on single-lane roads (just 1 lane for both ways)
true you can catch IH 10 there and just drive!
*mental note: do not ride in car with ata*
Denver is laid out like a huge wagon wheel and the streets go out like spokes so you might be 2 blocks away from the street you need or 20 depending on how far out the 'spoke" you are
hello, help with first ca6/24 pls
they seem to think that driving round country lanes at 50mph is strange and scary
container for food (tin) plus gorilla
its beginning to sound like guatemala
lol ata
that is the only ca 6 I have Peri
jacq understands the horror of UK country lanes!
learned to drive on dirt and gravel roads ... stay right going up a hill
******HUGS****** hey all!
stiddy! ((HUGS))
hi stiddie
i live in a rural location, our nearest dual carraigeway is 50 miles away and the mtoorways is about 80
hello, stid
great clue, thanks mel
was that the one you needed Peri?
hey there stiddy
I learned to drive on freeways at 80 miles per hour
i love country driving, except when the country boys get fast cars and use them like race tracks
eeeeeeeek JM
we live right next to the M" - but apart from that, all roads round here are single lanes
I learned on old dirt roads as well
*M2
carriageway maybe = highway (some cross-traffic); motorway = freeway (no cross-traffic, overpasses and off/on ramps) ????
I will never forget the times my front tire would blow out at 80 mph . . . .now that's an adrenaline rush!
golly gee jmc -- who knew you were such a risk-taker?
those are the correct defs. stiddie
Peri if there is another ca 6 would you clue it please?
just not enough money for new tires
ce6/21 pls
thanks jmc. I get totally confused by terminology sometimes.
every afternoon after lunch I curl up for a ca6
the other ca6, mel is feline and rest
(((((((PERI))))))) how are you? I miss you? cooking anything good today? I am drying lovely apples my Tom brought home from his folks in Eastern Washington
thank you Peri
I am well, stid. I made vegetarian lasagna for dinner the other day and everyone ate it and likedit
miss you too, stiddy
yvw, mel
what will you do with the apples the, stid?
oh yum! well done. I could do that for our supper today I think. Need to get some tofu anyway... do you think some zucchini would be a good addition to a lasagna?
looking for the ce 6 Peri will clue if I find it
extend the ce 4/5 with more of
we eat them for snacks through the winter when the fresh are not available. We'll also make some applesauce for the freezer and a couple of pies.
yes I do, stid. I used riccota cheese, cremini mushroonms, spinach and mozzarella cheese
sounds like one who closes an envelope
thanks for that ce 6
okay, then I will use the lovely zucchini our neighbor gave us! :-D EXTRA glad I ran into you today peri!
thank you for the ce 6
thanks, BR, must not have the correct ce5 yet
got the ce6, thanks BR
need to extend the ce 4 -- the start of what is overhead in a room
go peri go!
What do you think of brain-based education, stid?
afk a few
oh BR! I completely forgot! *sigh* though that was the topic ALL week. brb so I can look at it.
yes BR, that is PERFECT! (as you knew it would be)
I will finish reading it when I reach halfway.
brain based education? google or wiki better for this?
I would shred the zukes stiddie
I would try both, jmc.
a fun brain challenge: http://tinyurl.com/yejloq7
and I was thinking of shredding them too, thanks! otherwise they are just really chewy.
20 left, bbl
brb (can't ignore a challenge)!
here, jmc: http://tinyurl.com/9ut947
okay, here are my results... Excellent! You made it to Speed Level 4 (out of 5) 55 out of 66 correct
that was HARD!
good job
Speed Level 4 (out of 5) 57 out of 71 correct
I had the sound down low so my staff could n't hear I was playing a game!
apparently other people generally get the same number correct out of more tries. So I am slower, but more accurate. Would be a good quality for a detail worker (like soldering computer parts).
LOL jmc!
maybe I should rethink my current educational plans... *wicked mama grin* or not!
I wonder if practicing increases concentration levels
I figured out that if I missed it would slow down so when it got too fast i would just hit the space bar randomly
I would expect so
ah, good strategy, jmc.
"Reaching higher levels means that your brain is faster and more flexible. How many you get correct doesn’t really matter, because the game adapts to you. What matters is speed."
would it increase concentration itself, or just the brain's ability to process two things at once?
speed is why I DON'T play video games. I hate having to work at someone else's rate
my brain cannot answer that one, stid
this grid seems hard.
and my brain is tired. So I think I will go check the beans on the stove (for tomorrow's meal) and take a nap. This is my non-class day. And I am loving it!
best enjoy, stid be well
thanks BR. and thanks for the link to the great article. I will read it when I wake up! down to 52... *poof*
back for a few more:)
hey, crossy, well now?
almost got it beat, just a cougu left at day 10..
isn't concentration the ability to focus on one thing at a time and since you are really just counting the number of objects and not allowing the numbers that are written to interfere that would argue that you could improve concentration
cough
bye stiddie
*hands crossy a cough drop*
Makes sense to me, jmc
crossy has the worlds best cough drops in da kitchen brb
i will have to read the article later it is too long for me to sneak in at work
ahh there we go,can feel the vapours burning my nose hairs;))
what kind crossy?
hi all ;)
fishermans friend,extra strong
burning nose hairs destroys hours of intricate braiding
Pini!!!!!!!
the wife likes vicks lemon cough drops
Hello, Pini
but you could get extensions pre-braided BR
lol br,i dont braid them,i just grow them into my mosutache
Gosh, I've missed everyone!
I like warm brandy but can't carry it around with me
cherry whiskey is nice
pini!:)
you owe me some lexulous moves young lady!
cherry whiskey sounds dreadful
good for taking ice fishing jmc,at -40 c its the only thing that wont freeze out on the ice
I know, I know!!!! I don't get a great wifi signal when I'm at my dau's and it was killing me!!!!
In fact, I'll try and do both right now! (babble and lex that is)
I wouldn''t think any whiskey would freeze on the ice
hi everyone
hi andree
howdy andree
the pup is beautiful (and I am not a dog fancier!)
ive seen it go slushy at -44 ;)
on the other hand it is extremely unlikely for me to be outside when it is less than -10
i think lickety did not allow for the time change when he put these clues up, anyone posted any for today?
lol
i have
and only begrudgingly at less than +10
like me not being a cat fancier jmc, i still admire everyones beautiful cats
exactly andree
list is in my profile for those that want it
not that you would know it my daughter had sometimes 3 cats at a time as a teenager
although i saw a funny card which was a serious looking cat and it said: My sympathy for you owning a dog.!
unfortunately only cat people would find it funny and it only makes sense to send it to dog people
thx crossy, 40 left here and no idea where to get another word from, certainly not my brain
33 left
ACK, jmc...I need to catch up!
52 more to go here...
;-)
oo the book I ordered is on its way: Felon for Peace!
i love the title
the only reading matter i have at the moment is dog books, lol
well that is probably a good plan -- you want to take good care of the pooper
reading through 2 books by the monks of new skete
they know about dogs?
best thing to do with a dog training book is to let the ole rabies factory chew on it to save yer shores;)
shoes
1 done, jmc ;)
not everyone is a dog genius
they breed german shepherds and run training schools etc, trif recommended them and i must say i have had a lot of dogs but these are the most sensible i have read on the subject
lol thanks pini I will do them right before I leave work
oooh, and I got a BINGO (but not in our game, jmc :) )
now all i have to do is teach Hugo to read
i used to raise pure bred sheperds and for every thing i do know about dogs, there are 5 things i do not:) went to cats 10 years ago
has trif been on, does anyone know if her father is okay?

hi trif
hello. I am so sad....about my dad.....
He's just not doing well at all. :(
oh i am sorry to hear that trif
Hello Trifioso! How are you doing?Welcome to the grid
Yes, sorry to hear that.
That ap 5/14 word is a plus the pa4/6 word JenMO16
So sorry to hear abour your dad Trifioso! That is sad.
i don't have a pa4/6 word yet min
to walk back and forth back and forth back and forth: pa 4
got them both, thank you!
i just can't find the te 5/14 word, help pls
A te 5/14 is anagram of a word that means wonderful
have either of my sisters wandered through tonight?
Who are your sisters.I didn't know you had relatives here Trifioso. Are they frequent Babble players here?
I have not seem them, Trifioso ...
yes min, Car.eeyore and kadresa are my sisters, and aknitter is my cousin
thanks, BR
wish there were something that could be done for him
Oh Wow!I didn't know that! I have not seen kadresa in like FOREVER!Haven't seen Car.eeyore & aknitter.
fireworks, finally!
the doctors are working really hard, BR, really they are. It's' just hard to get all the factors together, and get him healthy again. unfortunately, he is going the other way. Today they taped his eyelids closed, which really upsets me, for some weird reason
yay big red
hooray big red
Congratulations big red on fireworks! Hooray for you
how old is he, trif?
thanks for all the help. couldn't have finished without your help.
74
Trif - I'll pray for your Dad.
thanks big red
Can you give me his name?
charles
that's him in my icon, a few years ago, cuddling with my littlest one
oh what a sweet pic
(((((((((((((((((((((((Trifs)))))))))) )))))))))))))
He is on my prayer list too, Trif
Hi torgone! How are you doing? Welcome to the grid!
Heyas Min and other Babble friends ..
hey there tor....wish you were here....
Me too ..
do we have a lickety's list today? I see one, but the word count seems to be off?
never mind. no lickety
Min has a list ..
hi everyone!
oh Trif, i just read back in the chog. t's and p's for you and your family. Car was on last night.
hello lbd. thanks, dear one.
Hello, everybody. How are you all tonight?
Hi Neffie! tired, but doing well, and yourself?
reading back in the chog; Trifi, sorry to hear of your Dad. What is the matter with him?
Hi lbd. I'm in the same shape as you.
hey nef. he fell on thursday night, breaking four ribs, at least one of which punctured his lung and collapsed it. He has continued to worsen since then. it's really bleak at the moment
Trifi, I was here early this AM and crossy had clues in his profile
How old is he ?
I have a list from bab anon.....to be honest, I am not exactly focused today....
74, nef
understandably, to not be focused on the grid, trif. Is he in otherwise good health?
(DH's 84 year old Aunt fell 2 weeks ago and broke both wrists; she's recuperating here at my house)
actually, no - and that is not helping now. make your life choices carefully, friends, as they really come to light when something like this happens
smoking, drinking, and a few extra pounds really will make things worse
that's true, Trifi.
Too true ..
but he's in good hands, and i'm sure the medical people are doing their best for him.
they really are, lbd. they really are
DH's Aunt Jean is very spunky; still was getting her 10,000 steps on her pedometer before she fell. Took her in on Friday for casting, and the doc refused to do it as she has overdone stuff and displaced her bones in both wrists!
wow, that is a bummer to hear, nef.
Trifi, when they tape the eyes shut it's so the eyeballs don't get sores on them from drying out.
omg, Nef. I bet she's a pistol when she can't be up and about doing stuff
thanks nef. I was really thrown off about it.
She's a pistol now too! Normally lives independently; but she's stuck here at our house now for the entire 6 weeks til the bones mend
he must be on a ventilator and sedation, right?
is she the cause of your exhaustion, Nef?
yes, nef, he is, and the breathing tube is causing nothing but problems. they just can't get it out, and he is not over breathing the vent
lbd, no. I really enjoy her. It's just that my co-worker (the only other paid RN) had surgery the same week and she is out sick for 6 weeks. I'm working overtime
Trifi, has he had the breathing tube for 6 days now?
yikes, neffie! don't wear yourself out!
well, let's see...he fell wed night into thursday, and I guess he got it around 3 am Thurs, so that makes....4 days this morning at 3
Good Grief! Here I thought it was Wednesday today! (Maybe I am doing too much!
okay, you said he is NOT over breathing the vent?
I believe that is correct nef, yes, and he has a temp, and he is a "hemological challenge" or something like that
(((TRIF))) (((NEF))), i've gotta go find my pillows, keeping your loved ones in my prayers. see you tomorrow, and I hope you have better news.
thanks lbd
thanks, lbd. Get some good sleep!
if he isn't over-breathing the vent, that's a good sign. If he IS over-breathing it, they would try to get the tube out faster or give him more sedation
oh, okay, thanks. I Know his breathing is an issue. he can't muster enough strength to cough the tube out
hi all
GOOD! No one wants him to cough the tube out! (That's always a nighmare for family and staff when the pt. is choking on the tube)
hi jes
okay. thanks so much nef. I am goingt o try to sleep some now. prob be back in 5 mins when I can't sleep.
Thanks so much for your kind wishes, everyone
sleep sweet, trif
be well, Trif
