He's always been very nice and helpful

true jilli, Shaw has 24/7/365 tech support

I'm sorta trying that, sprite, but . . .
hehehe, I thought you might
Good morning/evening all. It's so nice to see a bigger grid and it seems to be civilised so far.
good morning Haz
*flop* back from pup walk
hi haz -- not too bad
hi ata
hi Ata
Hello Ata!
i everyoneh
And good evening, Andree.
hey Andree
hi Andree! hi Hugo!
hi Haz! hi La Glitteratina!
and Sprite! and Terra!
have I used my quota of ! for the day?
I must investigate your icon, Ata.
hello andree
tis the Stone of Rosetta
never, Ata
You've been remarkably restrained with your !. They may just last out the day.
someone was having a "discussion" the other day about how big it was. So I went and took a pic of it
Something at the back of my mind tells me that it was someone from here who deciphered it. I'll have to google to find out. A clergyman who was rather brilliant.
tell us when you find out!!
did you measure it?
nope, it's fairly impossible to get close to, always crowds of screaming kids around it, especially now they've moved it right next to the gallery entrance
Apparently a Thomas Young, English clever clogs.
pretty big, though, isn't it?
that personto the left gives a suggestion of the size
It must have been someone else from here who did something with hieroglyphics.
it's about 4 foot? ish ....
I'd just stick with Liam Neeson, Haz. You're on sa4 grounds there
But there's a Rosetta district in Belfast. There must be some connection.
After many years of studying the Rosetta Stone and other examples of ancient Egyptian writing, Jean-François Champollion deciphered hieroglyphs in 1822.
hello BabbleRabble
hi babrab
You're not going to give the credit to the French!
I think he was Thomas Young's assistant who tried to steal the glory.
ooo, you would think ...
By 1814 Young had deciphered the Rosetta Stone.
don't worry, Haz, it is probably pronounced Djeen-Franskoys Champoo-Lion
Rosetta decoding wars.....
Later in the text - Champillion was unwilling to share the credit.
blooming Frenchies
What do you think? Film or mini-series?
mini-series
Well, 88 left and I'm off to bed -- have a good day, everyone!
sleep well, jilli, and dream even better *hugs*
Lots of opportunities for sunsets over pyramids.
Good night jillibus.
bye jlli
Let me know when the mini-series is ready
yep. and some good cliffhangers for the episodes
*poof*
We will, jillibus. I favour the young Omar Sharif for a starring role.
ooo yes.
LIam Neeson for the Irish man who probably did all the hard work while the French man and Young argued in tents.
Jean Reno in there somewhere
I am off, please think of me
Bye sprite, hope all goes well.
good luck sprite, hope all goes well
Hi
Hello, herin.
hi herin
How are you?
Ata, did I ever tell you about the Wild Beast episode?
Hi Andree and Ata and Haz Ata sent you that message but didn't realise you were still a lot poo
no, haz!
Well, last Sunday we had the emergency line from the surgery. I took a phone call from police control centre in Coleraine.
yes, still fairly blech. having blood tests today
The story was that a lady had returned home from an evening out and reported to her boyfriend that a wolf or a bear, in any case a large wild creature, had crossed her path.
there was a Wild Beast on the run???!!
The boyfriend, being a concerned citizen, went out looking for said beast the next morning. (He was either scared of the dark or his torch batteries had run out)
Anyway, he discovered the corpse of an animal in the stream near their house. He immediately decided that the wild beast must have devoured the animal and that the citizenry of Ballymena should be informed.
oh nooooo
He rang the police, they went out to look, couldn't work out what had happened and would the vet come to see what it was, determine cause of death and basically say that there was NOT a bear on the rampage so that they could quash any rumours.
True to form, when I told husband, his first words were 'i'm not missing lunch over the head of this.'
Priorities.
Anyway, after lunch he headed off to find this slain animal.
well yes! lunch or rampaging wild animals ... no contest
It was a dead sheep, had been dead for many days, had probably slipped into the stream, drowned and had been dinner for local foxes etc.
So the rumour of the Beast of Ballymena never got started. AND he got his lunch.
But wouldn't you have thought that the boyfriend might have asked the girlfriend just how much she had had to drink?
*rolls eyes* can't people tell the difference between a freshly killed something and something that had been lying around for a while!
ewww
yes ......
No, Ata. If only they watched CSI...
in a few months that will make a great story at a party after a few ales haz
Just for badness, he should have told the police that he had found huge pawprints.
he should LOOL
He could have had his photo in the paper, pointing solemnly to them. (We know friends with a stuffed bear, it wouldn't have been too difficult)
hehe
imagine the trauma through the small dog owners association of Ballymena
I know. And children would have been banned from playing outside.
Ata do you like that tattoo idea?
yes .... but I can't really help you straight away. you'd have to go on the waiting list :P
That is ok i thought I would be cheeky
Yes, she's working on a design for me.
Cue hearty laughter and disbelief.
oh yes, Haz is going to be uber trendy
Do you really think husband won't mind a full size portrait of George on my back?
I'm sure he'd love it. .....
thanks for teasing me :(
He'll be so interested in working out the knotwork he'll not even notice George.
you can hope!
I am just teasing, getting a tattoo ranks highly on my list of it'll never happen.
ha ha me too haz
Too much pain.
And if they missed out an apostrophe or something, think of the trauma.
some tattoo places screw up tattoos really badly
cat! go away!
Hello everyone. Hi Ata, I just had a nice haf hour reading through your ramblings (and look forward to quite a few more hours). You have such a nice relaxed and informative style, you deserve to make some money out of it someday/somehow
Smugness levels rising.....
hi lynxxx
You do write well, Ata.
Hello, lynxxx.
hi Andree & Hugo
I do have a bit of difficulty sticking to the topic under consideration LOL
thanks for teasing me over asking Ata to do something that means something to me.
i like how hansel and gretel are both in the grid today
oh no, that was not a criticism at all
I don't know. You seemed to stick to the bogs for a long time.
*grin* I know
herin, we're not teasing you! I think it's a lovely idea
Wow Josh, I didn't even notice that
Thank you for clarifying that
damn it I think i broke the internet
I've got no idea what your tattoo is going to be, herin, I was just laughing at the notion that you would have to wait because Ata was working on a design for me.
PS TY Josh
and you can tell me how much a wrist tattoo hurts
are you really getting a tat herin, ouch
i'm thinking of getting a new tattoo when i make my big trip to NZ in a few years
a Maori design?
at least hinting at maori design. i've been doing a lot of research over the past few months
I wonder if Egyptians get Rosetta stone design tattoos?
They are pretty stunning
some of the maori tattoo designs are more interesting than others, to me
Thinking much about it
Hi anyone I missed
i was considering getting the tattoo by traditional methods - but i wonder if that's a step too far
I love Maori design
I reckon Josh
What are the traditional methods?
you probably don't want to know
basically instead of a needle you use a wooden plank and kind of hammer it in
Have you had your sanity tested recently?
no, because i would certainly fail
I'm all for tradition but some things are best left to history.
well, it's not like modern tattoo technique is pain-free
That's true, but is this not more painful?
i don't think the issue is more pain, i think it is more time-intensive
The Maori method is more time intensive?
i think that is why it is not more widely practiced. i could be wrong though
I don't think it's meant to be much more painful
i wouldn't be doing it to experience more pain, that's for sure
Is the final result markedly different between traditional and modern methods?
not if it's done correctly
and I suppose you can be guaranteed to get something meaningful and Maori if done by a traditional practitioner
i'm not really guaranteed of that, am i?
maybe it will be meaningful and authentic, maybe it won't
I would think you'd have more chance at a traditional practitioner
mph I have to study
the trick would be finding the traditional practicioner
and not someone with a flyer at the youth hostel
If they have a sign outside saying 'Traditional Maori practitioner, meaningful tattoos guaranteed', you're onto a winner
Um silly thought but ask Kiwi
If they have templates of US sports and film stars, leave!
yep! I suppose it depends how much time you're willing to give up to having the tattoo done. finding someone, discussing designs etc etc
Err simple solution ask Kiwi on here
could I get some help with the lu6 please?
I know a few people who would probably be able to recommend, as well as Kiwi
i'll be happy to do whatever footwork i need to do to get a great piece of art incorporated on some of my skin. but first i need to earn the money to pay for the trip there
city in switzerland, sort of, forward
If anyone sees the busy little Kiwi
lu6 - begin with most of Miss Ball, finish with a seabird.
Was just doing a spot of reading on it. Maori Tattoos and Non-Maoris By using a moko pattern for your own tattoo design, you may be insulting the Maori people. It is never ok for a non-maori to wear a Maori tattoo pattern, even if it is done with respect. Maori tattoo patterns and symbols are a way of personal identification for the Maori people. By copying their designs you steal a part of their identity, what the Maori see as an insult. If you want a tattoo design in the Maori style, find a tattoo artist that has experience with Maori tattoos and knows about these issues. He can design a tattoo for you that has the looks of a moko without the Maori symbolic ties.
ty Haz!
You're welcome, forward.
yep, absolutely
yeah, lynxx - that is definitely one of the concerns. but i have also read of maori people who want to share their traditional patterns with non-maori
That's interesting, lynxxx.
hence the real deal tattooist, and not some random guy in auckland
there is, however, one *amazing* tattooist in Auckland. oh gosh, what's his name ...
Any clues on what it begins with, Ata?
just got fireworks, btw
Well done, josh.
last word is also the first, alphabetically - ac4/6
yay josh
Perhaps this guy Ata.......British pop star Robbie Williams had a Maori tattoo done on his arm in 2000 by New Zealand artist Te Rangitu Netana.
Congrats Josh!
http://phoenixtattoos.deviantart.com/g allery/#Tattoo-tribal
Robbie Williams got into a lot of trouble over that tattoo!
I read that
gosh, how did I ever end up knowing so much about tattoos?
i can understand how a culture who attached huge familial and political significance to tattoo symbology taking umbrage when a british (of all people) pop star "had a tattoo done"
like the Spice Girls doing a haka *facepalm*
my verbs weren't right in that sentence but you get the idea
oh no, did they really?
oh yes, they really did
how utterly appropriate
it was cringeworthy. and I'm sure none of them knew why everyone was unimpressed
The All Blacks were pretty offended when the Irish rugby team advanced upon them when they were performing the Haka at an international.
well, given the nature of the haka and the performing it before a very competitive rugby match, i think a little gamesmanship should be permitted from the opposing side
you're meant to stand and watch and be intimidated!
The Irish reasoning was that if they were going to be confronted with a warrior type thing, they were going to be as menacing as they could in return.
it's amazing watching games with - say - NZ vs Fiji - watching the opposing hakas
they should had whirled around some curling sticks
*hurling
All they did was to link arms, adopt a menacing look and advance slowly until they were almost eye to eye.
curling sticks. that's an interesting concept
i was treated to a drunken haka on the beach by some kiwis i met while vacationing in fiji
the all blacks should take offense to that before the irish
i was very impressed, however- granted i was drunken as well
Good on the Irish I say!
absolutely!
They had a particularly belligerent captain that year, and it was actually quite good to watch, you weren't quite sure what was going to happen.
anyone have the ne9/10 combo?
They've been on their best behaviour ever since - the All Blacks considered it a huge insult.
I think a lot more tea,ms are standing up to the All Blacks now
I am sure Ata does
I don't, forward.
Ata was quite happy not knowing it was a ne9.10 tyvm
ne + french song La ___ + not coffee but ___ + single hump letter
plural for the 10
but now I have them
Trying to fit Marseillaise in....
I know how you love worms
and Clair de la Lune
ok slap me
also french word for the sea
my worm love for today extended only to be annoyed that nematode wasn't here!
Thanks, josh.
ty josh!
I was annoyed by that as well, Ata.
i totally monkeyed the 9/10 earlier. it was beautiful
and rectangle
I want mufti.
and mucilage
I want another 103 words
It won't take what is undoubtedly the alternative spelling of mufty.
I still haven't forgiven enable for not allowing saltate a few days ago
5:30am's a good bedtime - g'night all
Night Josh
Goodnight - sleep well!
night Josh
goodnight Josh, or rather good morning
sorry Ata and Haz if I spoiled the 9/10 for you by asking for the clue
what does teh 8 start with please
You spoilt nothing, forward, we needed to find it sooner or later!
pardon my typos my finger is screwed up from typing
no Infernal
se6 - what Derek Acorah held trying to contact Michael Jackson. Did you see that piece of trainwreck tv, Haz?
Ta
No! I heard a trailer for it and thought 'There's one to avoid.' I can't stand his accent apart from anything else.
I managed to watch about 4 minutes of it
Did he come through? (Sarcastic font)
O wonderful what a berk
he did! he said that he was very cross that he hadn't been interred next to Marilyn Monroe
Well, you would be, wouldn't you?
and that was about all, apparently
So, are preparations being made to make things right for Michael?
People like Derek mark me angree
Derek A had some fans of MJ at the se6, they were all Utterly Convinced MJ had spoken to them, of course
The city authorities of LA are wanting to get back some of the money they spent on MJ's funeral. And there I was thinking that they were doing it for love.
Did MJ sing?
quite probably
I'd turned off in horror by that point
and remember that Jordan is in Celebrity Jungle thingy from tonight
I wonder if Derek Acorah asked him about his reaction to the X Factor people using his song.
Jordan or her boobs
John and Edward get to sing four words in it.
I steadfastly avoid 'I'm a celebrity' but no doubt there'll be articles in the press.
"sing"
Yes. No rapping.
omg! I see the word in the grid that I NEVER find before listing! yay!
I'm still giggling about the Wild Beast of Ballymena
Off to get some dinner and watch Qi, leave some clues around for me to come back to will you please
I've tried niece, asea and ocean. Keep thinking...
ca5/12 :)
Enjoy QI, lynxxx.
yay QI :)
I immediately looked for niece and ocean lol
dang it I really need to stuy
As in the boat or the Indian class?
me too, but I'm playing babble this morning and studying this afternoon. Maybe
boat
Hello All, nice sized grid today :-)
note it's an anagram of ocean
I always think of sprite when I find the boat.
No4/4 that by rights Ata should be in the PB,but we are forgiving people.
Hello zooz - nice sized grid indeed.
I always celebrate
and it has a past tense

Poor Ata hugs.

Ata they are using your name as part of the opperation to stop Pirates
Ah,but then we thought there were no bears or wolves here...

See you later, Ata.

I'd better take a break as well. Back later, hopefully.
Bye!
aahh! bye ata good luck
good morning babble friends! insomnia again, but on the plus side, I do get more babble time :)
me too, trif. at least it's a nice juicy grid
indeed! a nice change from the weenie grids of the past week
so disappointing when it's over too soon
sigh. as with most things in life...and then,of course, life itself
indeed. feeling melancholy this morning?
feh. no more so than usual when I awake 4 hours too early.
is that happening a lot? I've been waking up at 4 AM or so for weeks and I'm getting very tired of it
it is SO FUNNY you ask me that! just yesterday a friend and I were discussing how 70% of our facebook updates are people saying they can't sleep, or that their sleep was disrupted the night before, etc. Not sure if it is a seasonal thing, mid-life or we are all just stressed out, but there it is. universal insomnia, it seems
though I should correct myself - have not heard from any one from other planets, so maybe it is confined to earth, for now
I think it's a midlife thing
hi and by
opps bye. need to study
bye herin
hi and bye with great love, my herin!
1/2 way back to bed again it's3am hear night all
gotta go wake up secondo - always a special sort of treat. jesus had an easier time raising lazarus.
LOL good luck
morning babblers :)
could i get a little nudge for the left e in the top row for NBT please
a version of the color black, nono
I think that is what it is, anyway
thats the right e trif i need the other one
em4/6 - put an extra vowel into a big bird
ty Haz!
Good morning Babble buddies!
NBT now
oh, I am so sorry! I think I should go back to sleep
morning scrabbler!
And a couple of 'coming out' verbs em7 and em7
em6 and em7 that should be.
was thinking of you last night - hoppy bunny here needs nails done - sure you are much more adept at it then I am.
I just did that for Sebastian + Gandalf. Other 2 are next. I hold them tight and get it done.
TY, haz
ty so much Haz!
You're welcome, Scrabbler and Nono. Hello to all!
Trif, you will appreciate this: crazy sprinting bunny. Miss Bea just did crazy run around living + dining rooms as I came downstairs. She is happy to have me down here.
sweet bunny greetings!!!! LOVE that!
both top e's now grey
Well done, Nono.
I have yet to mistress holding him and doing the nails - still a two person activity, I am afraid.
I hold them like babies, on their back. But Tucker is a 10 lb strong, powerful buck, so I am more cautious so he doesn't thrash and break his back.
I actually was just reading more about this breaking back thing - something new to worry about! have you ever tried those pedi paw things? I did get one, but the kittens have a lot more patience with it than hoppy.
morning everyone..just came in from trying to view the meteor shower we were supposed to have. Saw a few, not the spectacular show that was predicted. A bit chilly at 4:00 am. Did anyone here see it?
hi blue
As rannits have become more popular house pets more is known about rabbit care + health.
Good morning, blue.
oh, RATS - forgot about blue! I was up too...
Hi blueheron. No, I needed a good night of sleep.
and now I have to go to the PB.... aaargh
*rabbits
ah, bl4.
160 words in, and boom. grid lock. me no likey
I am up to 38. Let's go trif!!
I'm up to 3. wanna race?
between the two of you with 102
Don't be a stubborn mu4!
if I said "race ya" right now, you know what would happen? you would win!
I am not fully conscious nor caffeinated, plus I am not a morning person, so no point racing.
BTW, last night I had my most common recurring dream - I was at a theatre, it was time to go on, but I didn't know my lines, hadn't been to rehearsals, etc. Except this time, I was in Ireland, and the play they were doing was a long time favorite of mine - I knew all the songs and lines, and they were delighted with me, as they had no idea how they were going to stage the play without the actress who would have normally played my part.
a star in the making Trif
good morning and hi everyone - Trif there was a great article in a recent New Yorker about scientists studying dreams - they have been successful in training people to control their own recurring nightmares
your dream sounds like the perfect solution - instead of standing on stage naked and speechless, you became the star!
Good morning, JBV.
Trif, yay, you will win a Tony, I know it!
morning JBV
hi Haz
and Nono
GM JBV!
and hi Scrabbler
check out dreamstudies.com--fascinating site that I stumbled upon last evening. I took the quiz, subscribed, bookmarked, etc
I sleep very well, thank goodness - but I have been fascinated with dreams since I was a child - kept dream journals, etc. and I do have a few recurring dreams
ok thanks, I will check that out, scrabbler! There is a famous Chinese curse about dreams -- "may all your dreams come true"
Me too, JBV. I have detailed, vivid dreams, many recurring, and I have lucid dream often, and visitation dreams. I was on that web site for a while last night. Neat info
i seldom have dreams but woke up to realy weird one this morning
I am going to try to go back to sleep for a half hour....ttyl
You don't have dreams? I call my dream world the Lynda Channel--busy, fascinating dreams all night.
Good luck, trif
bye bye trif sleep well
you have them, NoNo, just not remembering most of them
probably JBV
shed
sheft
oops sorry

Bye JBV
Good morning, everyone. Are things waking up here?
Hi, Merk. I hit a wall at 110 words.
only slightly Merk, good morning!
morning merk!
why oh why does there have to be so many c and f words?
Hi Merk
There there, nono, it's okay. Tomorrow there will be too many re words...(or someday soon...)
sigh, I dread the thought JBs
Oh, my, look at the totals for C and F.
I haven't even looked at the totals yet. With its center place and three vowels, the c pulls thru.
The f has even more, but 32, wow. And without a l or r touching it.
Merk is such a fan of c
have managed slightly more than half the F's and nearly all the C's but not finding any more ritht now
go go NoNo!
I have 8 F's
You motivated me, Nono. I now have 17 F's
i have 18 Scrabs, most of them 4s and 5s
NBT, phew
Anyone have the 8, 9 or 10?
Well, I'm past the halfway point, and must get ready for work. Have a gr5 day, y'all! *poof*

Babbleland has been a big support
arranging a long distance funeral is also quite trying - hope it goes smoothly
it has been trying to arrange but i think i have it in place except the musicians
and writing the many many checks.
i am renewed in my desire to have my body tossed in the trash can when i die
hint on the 10?
ah, yes, the checks - here's something that may make you smile - my mother was a super-organized neatnik, and had all her accounts prepared in advance to make things easy for us - ..... when we went to the funeral home to arrange things, he came up with an itemized bill for all the details (flowers, cards, etc.etc. ) and guess what?
elme
aaaaah
what?
it was EXACTLY the amount she had set aside in a special bank account!!
dont worry its nawt a word D:
ne10/77 being a plural for ne9/60
Good morning/afternoon all.
WOW! your mother was amazing!
hi haz
well what is NE9/60?
we were all amazed by the coincidence, because each item was the result of a decision (Yes/No) on our part - but it worked out!
Hello Haz!
ne+french for sea+homonym for 13-18
Afternoon, Haz
ne9/60 - ne plus the first part of a fishy female, add a beverage (not coffee) and wrap up with a consonant. The last four letters are an anagram of the word that goes with tidy in a phrase.

Hello, Annie and zooz.

A fishtail female then. Or a man, come to that.
Hi Atalante

It's because she got a new rawhide bone. Chases around the house and everything.

One of those coiled rawhide efforts. It goes soggy and disgusting eventually but it's all nice and brittle at the minute.

Believe it or not, there is no knich guy here in Jerusalem. We make our own but my mother in law never stops complaining. She had great knishes in her 'old home' -- Brooklyn.
that is where I am from
and she is right
Just googled it. Sounds delish!
A knish is a small baked dish that is a pastry typed dough with a savory filling, usually potato, kasha or chopped liver.
now see what you went and did, I am hungry now
Where in Brooklym, Sue?
off Ocean Parkway, by Prospect park
I live on Ocean Parkway
wow
I was on the circle of Ocean Pkwy, coney Island Ave and parkside
Wow, small world. My DH grew up mostly in Flatbush and went to the Mirrer Yeshiva on Ocean Parkway.
and went to the Jewish school on Ocean Pkway and Church Ave
sue, I know where that is...I live at the other end near the ocean
wow
What's it called, Sue? (The school)
I went to Lincoln HS
Bialick school, at that time
Where are you living now?
I think the spelling is right
i was just up in NYC last week. not brooklyn, though. manhattan. small world that youre all from the same area. :)
Concord, NC where they say "I had a Jewish friend once". lol
I live across the street from Lincoln. My window overlooks the school. They are putting in a new football field as we "speak"
I don't know if I know the Bialik school, was it a Yiddish school?
That is so funny, Annie, did you also grow up in the area?
Hebrew

sprite, that is good to hear
Good news sprite. Hope you're feeling OK in yourself (psychologically I mean)
ac 6...keen insight, shrewdness
hi Sprite glad things went well
they had made a mistake when noting down the appointment, the computer said 10.15 but on our leaflet it said 11.15. So they started out being mad with us for being late, but when we had shown them the leaflet, the assistant recognised her own handwriting and they became very nice.
thanks kallia!
yw :)

Thanks, Sprite. Trying to lure Crossy back to the grid.
hehehe if this doesn't work, nothing will!
darn Kallia, keep your phantoms to yourself! ;P
He is elusive this a.m. He's probably weaving an elaborate bacon sculpture as we speak.

Annie, just saw that Savion Glover's performing this week at the Blue Note -- I would KILL to be there!!
Is it me or is this grid like wading through treacle?
thanks, i NEVER would have found that. I'm going to use that word in a sentnece today!
http://tinyurl.com/ykdowsm
later
hi JFB, it is just that
jfb, yesterday's was major treacle as well!
yep it's worse than treacle lol
hi Une. Yes, yesterday's was even worse
Une, Please dont kill--just get on a plane
Ahhh. I love the feel of treacle squishing between my toes. NOT!
I'm not having the best of days and decided to take time out on Babble!!
wtg JFB! Good for you and glad to have you join us
When my daughter and I saw Manhattan Transfer there, it was soooo wonderful
and we saw him here a few years ago
Forget your troubles, c'mon get Babbly!
have seen him live 4-5 times -- so brillian!
*brilliant
Une, he has magic feet--he is a wonderful dancer
good icon and recipe, Une
i wonder if the sea birds or the cranes in the grid are going after the worms in the grid...
tx, sprite :-)
Annie, in addition, when we met him, he was so incredibly gracious . . .
What a slogan Judi - are you in advertising?
love your slogan too, judi! :-)
Nah, JFB. That's just my ode to Crossy.
Une, that must be a thrill to meet a performer you admire.
ohmygod, it is SUCH a thrill and happens so much more often now, at the "stage door"
Must away and rescue the washing before it ends up in the next county! bbl
later, jfb!
lol hurry back JFB
I have waited at the stage door only once and had a bad experience. It was Richard Dreyfus. He was very rude to someone and I told him "that was not very nice" and he got in my face and hollered and hollered. I just stood there and stared at him. Then we walked away and he ran after us up the block and gave my friend an autograph and a pen. I thought he was crazy or needed a fix.
yay finally the last biggie!
Annie, have you talked to anyone who's seen Isabelle Huppert's performance in Dangerous Liaisons in Brooklyn? Review sounded truly bizarro . . .
that wasn't nice at all, Annie
hi, all
jeezomeez, Annie! Another great experience was meeting Edie Falco after "'Night, Mother"
No Une, I havent
hello Angelsong
Une, she is wonderfully perfect
anyone have a clue for the 9?
Jealous. Edie Falco is brilliant in everything.
Maybe it was back in his drinkin' days Annie...
anyone have a clue for the 9?
She was charming and so friendly -- when I told her her performance made me weep, she hugged me and said "sometimes we need to"
wow Une
Richard Dryefus always seemed like the type to be a d*ck. Overcompensation for being so short, I suppose.
i know . . .
mom2, it was about 2 or 3 years ago.
ne9 - ne, three letters for the start of a fishtailed human, finish with an anagram of the word that goes with tidy in the phrase.
i agree, judi LOL
hi Haz
hey, haz!
Clay Aiken told me that my kid should have a coat on after a performance of Spamalot, LOL! He was right, but when we left it was beautiful and she refused to carry her jacket... so!
I LOVED Spamalot!!!
Hello again! I seem to have spent the day popping in and out of babble.
Judi, LOL, yes you are right. I am taller than him. I was looking down at him.
pop goes the hazel
yay study hall!
I LOVED Spamalot.
I am married to a short man without a Napoleon complex... rare!
How did your visit go, sprite?
treasure him, mom2
So did we Annie
Annie, doren's loved it too :-)
kudos, mom! :-)
Right now I am annoyed with him, but will get over it, LOL.
*dorens
it went very well, Haz. It wasn't as painful as they had said and the doctor was actually a lot nicer than last time.
good to hear, sprite
thanks for asking :)
That's good.
One of my most bizarre encounters with a famous person was in NYCs East Village... Ron Wood tried to pick me up... I was with my kid and he did not care, LOL!
I'm stuck for the 9. help, please?
He kept on insisting that I join him at this cafe for a drink... too funny.
mom LOL!
Angel, I clued it at 8.58
Clue for ca6/33, please?
Also a couple of years ago met Chris Rock, Louis Black, and Mo Rocco in McDonalds in Manhattan... they were very nice and very funny (of course)!
ca6/33 - as much as you can fit in a tin.
tx haz!
mom, ohmygod, I'm soooo jealous!!
You're welcome, Une.
hmmm haz gt another clue for that 1?
back with caffeine - i will try to do better
It was great... we had like a 1/2 hour conversation. I asked them why they were not eating in a better establishment... and they just riffed on Mickey D's for a while... they kept teasing my daughter... very nice!
wb jmb
Ty for the ca/33.
aackkk, you're killing me! LOL
For ca6 - put as much as you are able into a tin and you will have a ca6/33.
Many years ago I was in a MacDonald's and at the next table a group including a young child there sat Jackie Kennedy. Of course it was years after JFK was dead.
hi everyone, Terrific Tuesday to you all
hey, aloy :-)
hi Aloy :) To you too!
After about 5 minutes I forgot who they were, honestly, and was just shooting the "you know what" with them... very normal guys.
Hello Aloy!
annie, how amazing . . .
Now I am jealous of Annie... I am named after Jackie-O.
Hi Aloy!
Wow! Can't believe JackieO would take the kids out to Mickey D's. I'm sure the Secret Service detail was thrilled.
She was very gracious. I just smiled at her and she smiled back and waved at my children. She was in her signature outfit. All black and veryexpensive.
Right after Pat Nixon died I met Richard Nixon in a diner in Ramsey, NJ.... It was very early in the morning and I was on my way to Ramapo College... stopped for coffee and there he was. Gave my condolences and he thanked me... it was kind of cool!
how lovely
adding my wows to Annie's encounter at Mickey D's
lovely re Jackie not Tricky Dick
OK.. off to Shop-rite.
fireflies... bye all, have fun!
do any other words end like ca6/33?
YAAY, Sprite!
bye, sprite!
Morning!
congrats to you, sprite!!! hagd
Congratulations, sprite, have a good day.
Oh yes Richard Nixon. He sat BEHIND us at a Met game. I couldnt believe it. I went up to him with my son and a secret service agent came over and came with me to get an autograph. Still have it on the Mets score card. He was very friendly.
more than we can count, Une, but not in this grid
It's the only one.
He said he was a big baseball fan. So much for famous people.
sprite LOL
thanks, haz
I'm sure Richard Nixon was convinced the country hated him after the resignation/pardon. He was probably delighted to not have things thrown at him.
hi there geek... day off or on your lunch break? nice to see you
My father in law was in the steel business, and he and my mother in law had dinner with five different presidents at the white house.
true, judi!
wowie, gail!
afternoon everyone
got the 9 and the 10, finally
hey, katie
nice little purple berry in the grid french spelling
hi Katie
Hello Katie.
hey, science, didn't see you come in!
It was Reagan, Nixon, Carter, and two others. They loved Jimmy Carter, went to visit him in Plains, GA, too.
I have a teddy bear made out of the mink stole she used to wear to the white house.
tx science
you all are way to busy gossiping about famous ex presidents and their wives :0
Woudl love to meet Carter
*would
Must have seen Jerry Ford in there (a small blip between Nixon and Carter).
toooo busy sorry
science, it started out with talk of meeting actors at the stage door
Name dropping is fun. I loved it when we picked them up from the airport and got to hear all the Washington gossip.
groan.. "defuel" is so a word
i have not been paying much attention. I did meet Prince Charles once many years ago...
Oh, well, I went to a Christmas party with Ralph Bellamy.
and Olvia Hussey
thanks Aloy I didn't have the f word lol
wowser, ladies!!
Pictures, Gail. Show us your parents' collection of Presidents!
lol, yw Katie.. almost a pb infraction!
yummy soy bean cake in there too
have you had "french fries" made with that, geek? Made them last year.. pretty good!
I must be off for a while, bye dear babblers
never, aloy, sounds interesting
bye annie
See you later, Annie.
i also see a serial killer in the grid
Wouldn't that be "fu fries"? And, no - I'm not going to the penalty box for that.
served them with lentil loaf.. my kids are vegetarians and they were visiting
bye, Annie!
agreed judi!
lol, I LIKE that name, Judi! Will remember it.
Lentil loaf??? You're scaring me, Aloy.
ooh, it is delicious, Judi! Comes out looking like a meatloaf!
*having a sudden need for a McDonalds burger* lol
even the carnivores enjoyed it!
So I assume, Aloy. Sounds very uh... fiberous.
ok, here's a pic I took of my daughter with Edie Falco after "Night, Mother"
LOL. Edie was brave to go out in public w/o makeup.
on stage, she had just committed suicide . . .
looks good for someone who had just committed suicide lol
offstage, actually
i had just finished weeping copiously!
Well, she makes an attractive zombie, then.
love that woman
I was getting so confused. I was reading Eddie Falco and wondering why going out without make-up would be a problem for him.
haz LOL
who is Edie Falco?
don't make it laugh it hurts !!
ATA!!!!
Thank goodness, I'm not the only one who doesn't know.
she was Carmela on The Sopranos
Well, I don't know either!
Hello Ata!
and has been on my TV show, in movies, on stage . . .
I don't know either
*many not my
The name doesn't ring a bell at all. I'll google her to see if the face is familiar.
not much for the tv
She plays Nurse Jackie, too. I think that show is till on. I wish I got the channel.
currently starring in the title role of Nurse Jackie on Showtime
snap, judi! LOL
amazed that so many didn't watch The Sopranos . . .
She's very attractive but not familiar at all.
not familiar here either
haz, she's a brilliant actress and is also quite the activist
spoke at a rally for affordable health care in DC this summer
I'll keep an eye out for her from now on.
ok, 75 to go -- BBL -- byeeee
we don't get nurse jackie over here and I never watched the Sopranos
Bye Une.
bye, Une, hagd
bye une
Must rent the Sopranos DVDs, Katie. GREAT show.
Is it not very violent?
it always looked it from trailers!
is day time tv always this bad?
Sopranos can be violent. Fights, shooting, a few dismemberings. Ya know - typical mob stuff.
Oh I might give it a go lol
It looks lie the trailers were spot on!
What are you trying to watch, Katie?
not too fond of dismemberment lol
I have done murder she wrote and am now on to diagnosis murder!
Great writing and acting is what really makes it stand out. Oh - there's lots of sex too. Now, if that doesn't sell it, nothing else will.
Dismemberment would just about be as long a word as we could have in babble.
Plural it, Haz, and Bob's-yer-uncle. HEllo, all! Up to the usual mayhem, i see.
just watch True Blood for that
Hi Vic
Hello, Vicuna!
i like Dexter
without wanting to sound like a prude, but true blood had way too much sex in it for me
13 letters.. Haz, how many letters in the longest word you have seen in a grid?
I like Dexter as well but can only watch it in the daylight, managed to miss the whole third series so need to get it on DVD
it is hilarious
I honestly can't remember, Aloy. Let me check, does Lickety not keep statistics on that sort of thing?
13. cos the word stats only go to 13
just looked.. 12 letters
cogeneration and mothproofers
maybe we will have 13 one of these days
Yes, but have we ever had a 13, Ata? Not in Lickety's memory, so it would have to have been more than a few years ago.
If we do, you can be sure that !!! will have plenty of appearances in the chat.
think we had 13 ages ago
Mothproofer. Now there's some juicy experience for a resume.
13 in the olden days when babblers entered words with slates and pencils.
So what would happen if the grade made a 14-letter word?
lol Haz
Babble would explode.
And mailed the slates to Dr G?
grade sb grid!
Carrier pigeons did the job very well, I'm told, VI.
Yes, I think alarms would sound and the authorities would have to be notified.
it wouldn't be counted in the word count I *think*
Some needed to go into weight training, especially for the longer grids.
These are questions which we need to pose to Dr-G.
I think it would be more humane to use parchment over slate in those cases.
We should request an open forum some time - 'Meet the Doc', that kind of thing.
"The Dr G is in."
Parchment would be fine except for the rain problem and the clouds etc. Soggy parchment is not good.
Oooh, good idea, Haz. He's so enigmatic. "Meet Dr. God at the stage door!"
Rankings would be a nightmare with people demanding recounts.
Would he show up in photographs, though?
Well, I guess it's a good thing we have the intertubes to carry our words now, then!
He is enigmatic, isn't he? He used to appear more often.
I remember when he used to turn up almost daily
maybe we scared him off, lol
Pffth. Poor sod. He must have a real job.
Those were the days, Ata.
Well, deities are like that, you know.
Was any current babbler here when Dr_God created Babble?
Good afternoon all......
Hello caitlyn!
hi caitlyn!
We're in reminiscing mode.
Hi Caitlyn
I can see that LOL
hi Cait
In the beginning were the words and the words were with Grid, and the words were Grid...
Maybe we should make a list of the questions we would like to ask.
I doubt any of us were present when Babble was created. It was back on the 7th day, I believe. We all just blindly walked into the light.
Or would that give him too much warning? Spontaneity is good.
hi Cait!
We were never told that this game is so addictive though, perhaps we can sue DrG
on to flog it now, oh the excitement
I want to know if he is the band ZZ Top
Been watching Close Encounters again Judi?
Yes, but if we admit it's addictive, some do-gooder will try to shut down the site.
me too ruru
No, Sally... Poltergeist!
Social Services will turn up at the door and threaten to take our computers away!
he looks fairly normally really ....
So, remember, it's not addictive, it's mildly compelling.
Not seen Poltergeist.
How many adverbs do you need in one sentence, Ata?
Off for a bit. BBL. *POOF*
I could be declared an unfit parent... wait, that might not be so bad...
Does he Ata? Not seen a real picture.
True Haz compelling is fine by me
me either sally
Does this mean that you know what Dr-G really looks like, Ata? Or are you just teasing us?
yes, I am mildly compelled to get my "fix" each day!
I do!
Cough. Of course, I only play because it's educational.
Bye Judi.
I believe compelling is a major understatement!
LOL Carol
*maybe ata is really Mrs Dr G*
Or even - gasp - Ata is actually Dr.G!
Or even - gasp - Ata is actually Dr.G!
It is a bit, isn't it?
I believe you Sally
would I be trying to get divorced in that case??!!
probably lol
Ooh, how did I do that?
he has his pic up on facebook .....
how did you find him on facebook?
So there ARE advantages to being on facebook.
His real face ??
In Babblers Worldwide Ata?
because I know his name LOL
no, he's not in BW, I don't think
I can feel a quiver of excitement reverberating through the corridors of babbleland.
Are we going to be thrown a clue?
I know his name as well.
How did you find out his name?
Because he has e-mailed me telling me to be good.
I have joined the babblers group on facebook
I can't give someone else's real name out on the internetz!!!!!!!!
hello
oohhhhhh much knowledge
So If I'm really really bad will he email me too?
email him; you can find out
Hello phaeton.
Haz will tell you
Haz that is impossible for you lol
ahhh now you mention it he emailed me as well when I changed my name he was lovely
hi phaeton
Hi phaeton
Not even if we make a donation to Dogs for the Disabled?
hi phaeton
Impossible for me to be good? I know!
I'm on the BW group on face book too caitlyn.
seriously did he email you to tell you off Haz?
Absolutely.
need help finding the first ce6...please?
Can't imagine what you did Haz.
Well, kind of. Not so much a telling off as a request to be good.
having another coughing fit through laughing
I think there are about 50 babblers on it now Sally
how were you ever bad?
yes, I think he is a very nice man; I ordered one of his T-shirts and it was late arriving bc of a manufacturing problem, and he wrote to apologize and offered me a Babble T for my "troubles".. now that is nice!
ce6 - c plus an anagram of what a wheel does in a car.
Hi ruru
*amusement*
Not as in making it go but as in putting the car in a particular direction.
I trod on someone's toes who didn't like his toes being trodden upon.
can't imagine who
oh....
ty haz
big baby
can't get words for now as crumble is cuddled up on my lap and is on the mouse part of the laptop
Um, I think I can.
awwwww
when was this?
Does that person ever appear on babble now?
You have a cat called crumble? Or are you just a messy ea5?
*just realized that medicine is sitting on her desk. yknow, instead of being inside her body, making her feel better*
Anyway, what other questions do we need to ask Dr-G? Apart from what would happen if a 14 letter word appeared?
utter pandemonium
No, caitlyn. Not for a while.
lol sally we have 3 cats Rhubarb, Crumble and Custard
Which came first? Man or Babble?
Evanadine needs to take her medicine....
She has got a healthy desk though
if I've been told to have a very quiet week, am I still allowed to play on my Wii Fit?
I'd like to know if he has a warning signal to indicate frantic e-mails from people when trolls visit.
hello all
Hello peri.
hi peri
no ata!
hi peri
Hi peri Only a little Ata
No, a quiet week means that. No Wii Fit.
Caitlyn's too soft. Give Ata an inch and she'll take a mile.
*whiiiiine* how am I meant to be on a diet with no wii fit and short dog walks!
i fear the "medicine head" feeling that awaits me -- i already have the normal "medicine head" feeling without having taken any meds!
Ata, you can do that balance one where you're supposed to sit and look at the candle flame.
that one is soooo easy lol
Murphy's Law re pets: if you pet should decide to leave a present (peee, poop, hairball, etc) on the floor somewhere, one is sure to step right in the midddle of it :_
i would worry about losing weight when you are better
But you must take your medicine, EvaN, you know it makes sense.
Right. Easy. What you're supposed to be doing this week.
Dont whine Ata!! Easy is good for a week
What did you step in, peri?
it looked like her entrie breakfast :(
AAAck, maybe we don't want to know
.. too late, lol
Yuck
*grumble* lol
and the carpets here are new
she is fine tho, not to worry
sounds all too familiar though Peri
ROFL -- excellent chat this morning! Hi morning (for me at least) Babblers!
hi there, CJ.. long time, no see!
hi there CJ!
Peri, happened to me many times. YUK
Make sure you don't have bare feet next time peri
Funnily enough, I didn't even think about the cat, I was too busy wondering how to get cat sick out of the carpet.
Hello Judy!
Rhubarb knows I am not well so has been bringing me leaf after leaf to bed for me, cute but gross at the same time, especially as she brought a slug in with one
Ata, I'm out of the loop--are you on doctor's orders to rest?
me too Haz lol
Hi Aloy, Haz, Peri, Sally, Katie
hi Ciocia
OMG Katie. I HATE slugs!
yes. and am grumbling about it LOL. which is good in a way cos it means I'm obviously feeling well enough to grumble
Hi Judy!
could have been worse at least she has gone off bringing frogs in
awwww what a lovely cat! slugs ..... GROSS
took my meds. counting down to face on keyboard...
my childhood cat once left me a rabbit head on the pillow next to me *facepalm*
YUK, Ata
Thank goodness Scrabbler isn't around.
Good Eva you needed to take them
OMG.. reminds of the horsehead scene in "Godfather"
LOL yep! He couldn't quite manage a horse though
Our cats brought in 3 and a half rabbits one year. One was alive.
oh no, sally
Im glad I dont have a cat lol
Really good thing Scrabs isn't here!
They were very anxious to help when I wanted to relocate the live one!
Sweet little thing, all trembly when I picked it up.
awwwww
Ata--Well I'm glad you're well enough to grumble but take care of yourself!
geez; I hate when work interrupts my babble chat
done, and I must be off.. fun chatting with you all, see you next grid!
one of my roomate's cats ate another roomate's bird while I was in college.. it was an ugly scene.. feathers everywhere
Bye Aloy!
never a good thing for a happy house ruru
bye ALoy!
Bye Aloy - and oh dear ruru!
You were allowed pets in college?
my cat used to keep eating my brother's hamsters
Bye Aloy
Congrats and bye Aloy
Yikes, Ru! And Hi!
Nap time! 100 words down, will come back for some more later
Nap for me too Katie
Im going for a little while, back later be good!!
Well when my son was little he had gerbils, and one escaped. I came home to find it eating out of the cat bowl, while the cats looked on in disbelief.
see Ata, taking a nap voluntarily!!
Nap time? But you'll miss out on TV, Katie. Are you wise?
I did earlier on!
Bye caitlyn!
Must I be good Caitlyn?
One of our cats used to bring in earthworms - not to eat, just to play with. The second it rained she would run out and start gathering them. But they dry out sooo fast on carpet, so I took to scooping them up and taking them back outdoors as fast as they came in! Now she just plays with them outside - I guess it's worth getting a little wet!
I have sky+ I can catch up later lol
Ah, the wonderment of technology!
*poof*
You're not doing a very good job of selling cats to the non-cat owner.
enact
lol Haz.
Sorry, sorry - must move cursor before leave computer, never remember after. Hope PB good today.
Spangle can rest easy, she won't be joined by a feline companion any time soon.
I think if you love any animal, you put up with its unpleasant habits.
PB hasn't seen many inmates today, we're being all generous and not noticing.
Love conquers all?
Something like that Haz.
or you just give them a kennel to banish them to
Shocked. Hobbit doesn't sleep in a kennel, surely, Ata?
Yes, a cold kennel and a diet of gruel keeps Spangle on her toes.
<--------- sleeps in a kennel.
husband was very worried about Spangle the other day, in case she gets cold at night
All my cats I "inherited" from friends and horrible neighbors who don't take care of their animals.
I assured him that you would never let such a situation occur!
She's incredibly hardy, she doesn't seem to ever get cold.
Yikes--that C word is in the grid. *skips over to PB*
So is there central heating in this kennel then haz? A smal log burner perhaps, and carpet on the floor.
is she a little furnace, like Hobbit?
underfloor heating would be good, like in Roman villas
My dog <------ sleeps on a heated pillow on the floor by my bed. Not toooo spoiled.
Absolutely a furnace, she's just warm all the time.
ditto Hobbitella
No central heating, Sally. Husband has always insisted on her sleeping outside and she's used to it.
only ever known her to shiver once, adn that was last week!
Spangle has been known to want outside to sit in the snow. She just seems impervious to the cold.
Only teasing Haz. Our feline companions (careful to avoid PB this time) frequently sleep under a tree in the rain.
wow, that's quite impressive!
We got a new kennel for her arriving and husband spent ages insulating it etc. I had an awful dream one night that Spangle had managed to drag it to the back door and had rendered it into match wood.
I was so relieved to waken up and realise that I didn't have to break the bad news!
So did she sleep there from a puppy?
see ... it is insulated really :P bet she has a radiator and heated pad in there too ;)
She did. We had the kennel inside the garage initially and she had hot water bottles and things until she was a bit bigger. It was moved outside into the back garden once she was older.
So we're not really THAT cruel.
we believe you ....
after everything you said about being told to behave by DrG though, I'm not so sure
I know. A huge question mark hovers over Haz.
hello 154 to go
Hello, harpjane.
is it in sarcastic font? or bold, underlined font?
i wonder if Dr. God would like to hear my confession? I need someone to tell me to behave!
Italics, with sparkly bits around.
Have you been bad, harpjane?
um, that is a private matter between me and Dr. God, you silly!
You can tell us. We're very discreet.
lol no i can't.....my memory isn't that good!
Darn. Can you not just make something up?
oh wait, aren't I DrGod?
excellent! go forth and tell
is the no8 a noun?
(trying to redirect the crowd...)
as if you're going to get help after that!
Yes, harpjane
Yes. Thinks earls, dukes and counts.
got it, and yes it is a noun!
(Making no4/4 that harpjane has secrets to tell but is not telling)
So you didn't believe me, huh?
no4 made!
Have you got any studying done today, Ata?
a tiny bit .....
Hate to leave this fascinating confession of sins past, but must go and shut up hens. Be back in a moment.
wonders if me 10 are recyclable ... could be used on christmas presents
Making no4/4 that Sally's birds could have landed her in PB if anybody cared to notice...
ne, that is
why is everyone being so lenient today?
PB and its luxuries has no deterrent effect. We're trying a different approach.
I should walk Spangle, shouldn't I? It's still light and it's still dry.
And harpjane isn't going to cough up her misdemeanours.
not very light!!
um, harpjanes' only sin is an occasional word in the chog?
It's still pretty light, we're that bit further north.
lucky you! dark here
Oh well, I had hoped for something more sensational, harpjane.
Unless you put the words in deliberately?
THAT would put a different complexion on things. Troll tendencies, very worrying.
first st6/21 pls
(trying to remember the last time harpjane asked people how old they were)
very very worrying
sins of omission and commission you know
how old are you, ata?
I shall adopt an upright st6/21 and go to get Spangle's lead.
thanks, Haz
See? It's all coming out now. Harpjane is a troll, it's official.
Youre welcome, peri.
malfeasance misfeasance nonfeasance
You're welcome, that should have been.
Off I go, bye for now!
*gone*
o to bad i missed haz
hi all
Hello, jmc
I am trying to figure out what can start with ne and be recycled ;-)
nothing, I was being silly
o lol Too disappointing BR I thought it was a clue!
nm I have just gotten started so have many words to type :-)
Back. Sorry about inadvertent mention of which birds to be shut up. Have also fed the feline companions. Sigh. Life is difficult with so many words to avoid.
just talk about dogs and ferrets
But avoid sea birds?
My brother had ferrets once. Looks around anxiously for Scrabbler. He took them out rabbiting.
oh yes
and worms
The worm word is not one I use all that often.
noooo
Can't think why I can't enter bonce or bona.
I know .....
ne + sea sickness: mal de *** + article: *h* + article: **; pl
ty BR
Oh the bodger on the bonce! The bodger on the bonce! Pity the poor old Rhino with The bodger on the bonce!
And there I thought the conversation was about Tigger!
ty br
that was quite a mouthful
Hello, sciencegeek
hi science
Does anyone know whether any babblers weraffected by this mornings's earthquake off the coast of western Canada?
what!?
they say only some islands were affected. Does not Lilli live on such an isle?
Running to phone my son inVancouver!
Jilli and Flosey live on Salt Spring Island
I am googling it now
oh, quakes were in the Queen Charlottes, along the BC/AK border
so few worries for Vicoria or Vancouver :)
er, Victoria
Salt Spring is in the Vic/Vancouver area
quakes? sorry was at the copier.....
that is a long way from Salt Spring Isle
in the Queen Charlotte Islands, off coast of Prince Rupert, BC, science
Yes, son said "that was near Yellowknife, wasn't it?" - obviously not affecting southern BC and islands.
so, a less populated area, and no tsunami alert due to the quakes
wow, 6.6 quake!!
hi all relax 6.6 then 5.5 quakes NO damage no big waves felt on the Charlottes none expected
so, as quakes go, thus far good news
plate tecs
whew
anyone notice Ha**** and Gretel in the grid? LOL
there is a serial killer in there
henry lee lucas
tried both ....
yikes, science!
cool, science
thank, une
hey, seain :-)
was hoping for alt spelling of filthy lucre, but no . . .
sigh, 66 to go . . . BBL
this grid is more challenging than usual for a big one
Good evening all.......
evening, caitlyn
How are you seain?
i'm alright, and you?
May I please have a clue for the EM 4/7 from the top row, second column E please?
a bird like an ostrich
Fine thanks
TY!
I'm back, finally, but who knows for how long?
Are you ill Merk, or jus busy?
hacer - I want spanish words to count!
geek...the birk like an ostrich is only 3 letters
add a vowel
add an extra vowel
add a vowel before the usual ending vowel
ok..ty...but thats 4/6
ok then maybe i dont have the other one i am missing ONE e
Finished with the formidble c, e, and f words.
From which square, geek?
second column (From the right)n, middle e
top left: em 6/27; 7/40; em 4/6
top right: eb 4/6; 5/14
oops and one more bottom e in the far right corner the other is in the second column from the left (LOL) middle e
ed 4/6?
ed + masculine possessive: *i* property
I wasn't asking for a clue, BR, I was offering it as a suggestion to geek.
(but ty anayway)
have ed 4/6
Sorry about typos. My keyboard keeps sticking. I really must clean out the crumbs and Marmite.
i am working on the sa's now i will go back later for the missing e's
marmite! yuck that is a cousin to vegemite!
Far superior :-)
my citizen police academy class has made me so suspicious
marmite might be a glue like vegemite lol
no wonder your keyboard sticks
i came home for lunch today, which i don't usually do, and some guy came to the door offering to clean one of our floors for free if we'd then tell people they did a good job. and he had handed me a flier but when i said i didn't really want to have them clean a floor today he took the flier back. well i thought that was odd because wouldn't you still want people to have your info so they could call you if they did want to pay for your services at some point?
Yes hurshy, you would. You should contact the police.
sounds scammy to me
so i called the condo management company and asked if they knew anything about this and said that the guy had mentioned someone in the complex whose floor they were cleaning and she said that the name mentioned was on the board of directors so i said, do you think we could ask him if he's having a floor cleaned, cause i don't want to call the police on them if they're really just carpet cleaners.
and she called the person in question and it was true, but she was going to do something about it anyway bc the company isn't supposed to go around like that, it's against the condo association rules.
Good. After all, it's easy to find the name of one of the directors - and you might be reluctant to call them, as you were.
i mean i feel like on the one hand, i did the sensible thing, but on the other hand, feel bad for suspecting a perfectly nice fellow with poor business sense.
He should have left you the flier with a phone contact on it.
i should say so! my dad's a born salesman and would shake his head at such foolishness. :)
I will never buy online unless there is an address listed.
I would have asked the guy for three references and the name of his bonding company
it just occurred to me that it would have been a very easy way for people to come around and see who is home at what time of day and whatnot... sigh.
i feel better knowing he's not a robber, though.
Until you find the director has been robbed :-)
not but what you couldn't work for a carpet cleaning company AND be a robber...
he did seem like a NICE guy, though, which means he would perhaps be better off running confidence schemes than surreptitious burgles, should he turn his hand to crime.
hursh, Nice has nothing to to with it, it is better to be safe than sorry, you did the right thing
ca6/33 pls
i know. i just wish one didn't HAVE to be so suspicious.
after you put your cambell's condensed soup in the pot, you have to add a ca6/33 of water (or milk) to it.
can't be too careful in this day and age
ca -- a container topped-off
well, i must be getting back to the office. ttfn :)
thanks, hursh and BR, odd word
be well, hurshy

yes, I really wanted euchre - but someday. . .
it posed wrong. It is not my mother, it is JMC's mom.
thanks, science, for that
posted wrong....cannot type today
Fireworks. Thanks to everybody for clues (esp. for that ne8, 9!) and the lovely chat.
congrats, helens
quite strange. did not know jmc had a houston base....
her mom may have. she's from DC
i know anyway surprised me...
i know exactly where the church and funeral home are located not too far from where i lived as a teen
small world
... and fireworks!
congrats, merk!
I am eating Hydrox (YUM) instead of making real food.
57 left but i just can't go on... i give up today
props to those that finished!
be well, jmb
reminds me that i should eat my salad
yes, it would behoove me to eat something else
such a bummer, i have a salad and forgot to put the avocado in my lunch box! argh....
Oh, happy day. Fireworks!
congrats, judi
that is a bummer about the avocado, science
hi all
hi, jmc
mmmmm avocado
when we first ate them we cut them in half and filled the seed hole with mayonnaise --- about 50 million calories
whoo hoo judi
are you in Houston, jmc?
science did you leave?
no waiting for my son to catch our flight out from National
safe travels to you both
ty
i am getting tense waiting for him *sigh*
that's understandable
i thought babbling would take my mind off it
babbling is good for that :)
it doesn't help that there a le4 blower out my window
i HATE those. I would so ban them were i king
Safe journey, jmc. And best wishes to you and your family.
me too! I nearly ran over a guy wearing ear protection from the noise of the le4 blower and walking backwards on a street blowing le4s!
tyu christine
May you find peace, jmc
ty BR
hello everybody
how is the grid today?
welcome, jacq
nice big one i see
yes, with a fair amount of what my brain thinks of French in it.
heya seain
hello all
hello aslindy
"stremly" is not a word, just so you know
i am back i did leave students....
lol aslindy
lol, ty aslindy
finally put some water on to boil. i will have some real food.
any time. =)
we had steak tonight, it was lovely
mmm, sounds good
ohhh i just found the 8
go, jacq!
suddenly not so impressed with self when i see there is a 9 and a 10 and they have nothing to do with the 8
hi again all :)
heya ata
hi, ata
i have a dilema, should i log off here (sitting on bed nicely relaxed) and give the teens the laptop and log on to the desktop or not?
eh, they can use the desktop, no?
nope it's in my room because they didn;t want it in their room
suppose i should
ah, then yes, i'd yield it
but it's mine!!!! (hugging said toy)
yes i will, then i will be loved and they might even smile
LOL
might, considering the ages
fat chance of a smile
tom says he thinks it's fine time to show the kids the consequences of their decisions
ok be back in a few, will make coffees too
and that the smallest of decisions do come with consequences
cool
my 8th period chemistry class makes me feel that I have entered the 8th ring of hell
yes they do, and they do learn, bang about at night and you wake your baby
why is that, science?
LOL jacq
ohhhh (((((science))))) my brother is a maths teacher, he says anything with students over 11 is hell
they dont do any homework they are ADD immature think they are smart and are insolent oh and never come for tutorials
ok be right back
i have only 4 in this class but they simply piss me off on a daily basis
ah, that type. I find biting sarcasm works with that type.
how old are they, science?
i am the queen of sarcasm. i have been known to reduce 17 year old boys to tears....
Hi all. Oh Science, I think I was my chem teacher's student from hell. Smart as I was I couldn't get my head around chem (or wasn't interested enough). He promised not to flunk me 1st semester, if I'd promise never to take his classes again! LOL!
i had a teacher pass me in CompSci once with the same condition, michncik :)
Throw baby explosives at them. Thats what our chem teacher did to us when we weren't listening
And look dc, we grew up anyway!
hm. firecrackers as attention-getting devices. interesting
quite so, michnick :D
he was an ex-industrial explosives chemist. it was great fun!
i doubt that would be looked on kindly here by administrators and parents. Though it could be fun to try.
Yay, I hit the half way mark.
I think teachers in our day got a way with a lot more than today. In some way they are too restricted, but on the other hand both sides are more protected.
they dont understand that the brain has to be exercised in order to move things from short to long term memory. So I give them new material and homework and they dont do the homework and come in the next day as dumb as they were the day before
oh yes. some of the stuff we did at school and uni would be banned now! one day at uni, we were given a nice blue liquid to inject into crabs. it was only till we'd played around for a while and injected it in labcoats and stuff that they bothered to tell us it was cyanide
My chem prof in college used to throw small explosives at us as we went down the hallway
ata oh my!
lol yep, science! sounds familiar
anyway, these are spoiled righ kids who think they dont have to do anything in life
rich
ugh, hate american spoiled rich kids
me too
(sorry, they are just worse when they are american!)
i agree.
i have lived abroad and know the difference
a good friend of a good friend is one. He drives me up the wall
It has something to do with entitlement, but I think it is much more prevelant today in almost any advanced (Western) country. The rich kids here in Israel, in certain areas are spoiled in a way that is beyond belief.
He wants to be a doctor, but assumes his parents will pay to get him a place in med school, and then to pass med school, and then to get him qualified without doing clinical years
sounds too familiar...
bunch of fricking losers. I worked my little low middle class a** off for me degree in premed with high honors and paid my own way through college. No one did me any favors.
I just hope he gets a short sharp shock. I don't want my drs of the future to bribe their way through school!
with yall. the HS i went to had two types, those that got hand-me-down cars at 16, and the ones that got beemers, mercedes, and porsches.
cannot afford to have stupid doctors
dc sounds like my hs. i attended HSPVA and I was poor white folk
the rest lived in the high end neighborhoods. at least everyone was friendly. it was the dark ages and people still did their homework and had pride in their grades
i attended TJHSST. I'm sure it was not dissimilar in some key ways.
really - how possible is it for someone's parents to "buy" their stupid kid's way through uni?
our whole country has become "entitlement" crazed!
yep, science.
and ata, yes it is
Sounds like my high school also. I lived in a 7 br house with a huge yard, had my own car (a 12 yr. old pontiac) and was considered LOWER middle, the other kids weren't even considered.
i dont know, but some of these rich folks are on the boards of the colleges......and rub elbows with donors......
easier than you'd think ith enough money, ata
I don't know what schools you guys are referring to, I went to public school.
true dc
i went to public school. i teach at a private, entitled school lol
*sigh* you'd hope doctors would have to actual have brains
oh, science, that's worse
You may think I'm crazy but the reason I loved the Harry Potter series so much is because it so well depicted real life, including the obnoxious spoiled rich boy whose dad 'knows' everyone.
no not really. some of them take 4 or more attempts to pass their medical boards
i could not get in because i was put in the alternate list. i should have applied out of state, but did not want to leave my kids who lived with the ex at the time. so here i am teaching these little sh*ts
oh yes, malfoy! love to hate him
That's so hard science.
it is disgusting
okay enough gritching....42 words left
Way to go, I am just past halfway.
sciencegeek, are you teaching right now?
i'm manning a spec. ed resource room.
yes
Back to Babble, I am having the hardest time with the e's today.
i am so sorry i would NEVER take on that assignment
I've never taught below undergrad level, and am very glad of it!
well, at least it has been quiet and not many drop ins. which allows me to catch up on paper work from my morning assignment of special ed. Transition students (18-21)
geez
most of those kids will end up in prison one day. my experience with resource (adaptive behavior) is that the public ed tells them their disability is ok, but in real life it is illegal to act the way they do
I typically work with students who are severely cognitively delayed. I worked with students with behavior problems last year. most were in a day treatment situation.
Some of my previous students are in community college working toward a mechanics certificate
what wonderful work, hawkins
Thanks. It's tough, especially the amount of paperwork. but I do enjoy it.

OOps there I go again
I see you're getting the hang of it :-)
How many words, please?
no problems Kaplan - and hello
256 ggarret
t
ty
hi gg
Not the hang of this switching back when I have been in the chat. There should be an electric shock or something
lol
Kaplan, what is the Magne?
the cat is in uber-fetch mode today
;-) dc
it's been very distracting
nah - you had some hydrox to get you ready. ;-)
and some pasta marinara
ooh- you must be REALLY revved.
It's a typo- supposed to be The Magnificent- as in the Hyman Kaplan stories.
What are the Hyman Kaplan stories? Sounds familiar. I'll go Google it
Okay, Leo Rosten of "the Joys of Yiddish"
leonard Q. Ross (Leo Rosten)- old stories about immigrants in night school- they're from the 30s or 40s
You got it
Kaplan butchers the English language of course and can't past the beginners class giving his nice young Protestant teacher, Mr. Parkhill, the heebie-jeebies
I reread them when my mind is cracked
the stories sound like fun
I haven't read them, but I have read "The Joys of Yiddish"
Out of print, I assume
i seem to remember encountering those stories a long time ago.. will have to check them out again
so what is Bichon?
They were in the New Yorker
ahh - that would be it. ty
A Bichon is a small white fluffy dog of great friendliness
and fluffiness
I need one more L
http://www.akc.org/breeds/bichon_frise /
i need way more than one Kap. :-)
I've got all the m's but I can't believe there are 32 f words
there are
and some of them are nasty
I'm just making them up and seeing if they hit
i have 28 of 32 f words. le sigh
i did that with two fo's
me too at this rate
top o' the mornin' to ya, babblers
hello gort
hey gort
how r u jac?
can anyone point me in the right direction on the ne9 pls?
good ty and you?
as we say down under, "not bad for an old fart"
it's a hard one to clue
ne + french for sea + adolescent misspelled
good clue bichon
ohhhh nicely clued bich, i was just going to give a rough definition
spectacularly well clued, bich, i think it means "wormlike"
I didn't come up with that originally, but it is a good clue
and plural that clue too gort
it is a type of unsegmented worm
yep, thanks jac
I think it has to do with a parasite, but in my mind worm and parasites are both equally yucky
the e's are killing me
personally, i prefer a little segmentation in my worms
wormy
lol
i have all the e's and f's if i can help
i've done the e's, do u want a hand, wolvie?
jac and gort - i don't know what i am looking for, lol - haven't listed. :-) I am just shy by 4.
have you got the flightless aussie bird with an extra vowel in it?
ahhhhh
I could use help with the em 6/7
ooh - no - ty gort
a butterfly em***** from the pupae
and singular that too
have you got the poetic word for black?
ty jac q
yes.
the greek letter?
the baby sea eagles?
the opposite of digest with vowels on the end?
the relatives on your mother's side?
there's no stopping me now
okay - ty gort - those did it. :-)
whew
lol
ty for the black word, gort
you're welcome, i've had my morning cuppa, which is as good as crack, i reckon
:-)
that's the first use of reckon i've from someone neither from NA nor from Ireland.
there's more where that came from, dcs
i'm sure, and i know at least as many Irish went to your part of the world as to ours
yup, i'm one of em
i believe i'm the descendent of an irish horde. i feel hordish
east
i've no Irish in me to my knowledge.
i live in the Ea4
but you can still begorrah with the best of them, right?
Unfortunately me neither
well yes, i'm from The States ;)
this is ridiculous, but i can pls have a clue for the ne4/6?
has two vowels in the middle
thanks dc, was starting to go nuts and bite myself
what is na 5?
i have male name, plural bichon
ty Wolvie
has anybody else tried the black pepper triscuts? fab. :-)
cut back on that java gort, lol
lol wolvie, these triscuts of which you speak...what are they?
crackers - i typed it wrong - triscuits.
i grabbed some last weekend, they are marvy with goat cheese
you had me at goat cheese
just now had 3, and that took the edge off - i'm not going to dinner until 7:30. :-)
LOL
triscuits and goat cheese are a happy pairing
ah but dc - you must try the black pepper triscuits. yummers
oh, yes, those are nummy
good grief - some friends of mine in Mich are thankful for a round about being put in the road - eek! ( i am multi tasking, and so not doing well at anything!)
i like circles and roundabouts - but we have tons of them here
i hate them, but then i did a lot of driving in Boston. ;-)
hi all
Boston has 1 circle that i recall.
hi, nrk :)
hi nrkii - how goes the battle?
hello everyone
I grew up in Western Mass, where we called them rotaries....
the one by MGH
and my mom's friend called them rotoraries
many many more than that, although they are getting rid of them. TG
are roundabouts a bit of an oddity in the us? here we're just one roundabout after another, interspersed with the occasional bit of road
Western MA is much nicer than Boston
that is the name in Ma, yep
hi Reese
not the bit I grew up in, dc :)
we just had a round about put in where i live and i hate it haha although it does work well :p
where did you grow up nrkii
Springfield
they're an oddity in most of US, gort. around DC and in Massachusetts and in Ohio, there are a good many.
gort - they are not common off of the ea** coast
ah, yes. We have friends in Palmer.
my friend's mom is from Chicopee
there are a lot in new Jersey too, but new jersey also uses jug-handles very effectively
my mom worked in chicopee (as did I) for years
true that about NJ
ah. I lived in Mass for 17 years, moving back north, either Ma, Pa, or Md
there's one in Astoria OR LOL. It traumatises all the locals.
as well it should ata
I definitely prefer jug handles to rotaries/roundabouts... less confusion and merging needed
LOL yeah, it means they have to know how to drive
in Mass, it was a big game as to who could ignore what they were supposed to be doing and get where they wanted first. lol
they are utterly essential over here
driving aid. :-)
wolvie, where in MA were you?
Maryland now uses rotaries at many highway interchanges instead of clover leaves and traffic lights
seain, don't tell your friend I said this, but Chicopee is a good place to be FROM
EEEK dc. ;-0
are clover leaves same as "jughandles"?
she agrees :) her brother lives in a group home in Springfield
north shore first nrkii, then in Uxbridge. I just about bought a home with 10 acres in sept in W Brookfield, but the inspection fell thru
no, nrkii, a cloveleaf is a highway interchange with 4 loops connecting the two roads, no lights
whats a jughandle then? lol
ugh, so she still has to go back some times??? in Springfield these days, you have to keep your windows up and your doors locked and try not to drive through at night
really? wow
Okay, in one hour I am going to our town's school board meeting because I volunteered to fill an open spot on the board and I have to be interviewed. Ack!
woot! go nrkii
A jug handle is a half loop on the right side of the road, that you have to take to make a left or a u-turn. It's used on divided highways (where there's a barrier in the middle to prevent random left turns and u turns)
it makes traffic go quickly, because you're not constantly having to stop for someone turning left
ah
Mass needs those on the north shore on rte 1 - big time
yes, I'd agree Wolvie... they're tough to figure out if you're not familiar with them, but the difference in traffic flow is really good
clue for the sn5 pls?
I like jug handles - makes life easier
sn5 = something totally botched up
it comes from an acronym... Situation Normal...
oh,thanks nrkii, i thought it meant to grab quickly
ty nrkii
I think it was a military thing, sn5
what does the 8 start with?
oh for crying out loud, only 2 to go and their cotton-picken' 4s!
always that way for me gort
trying to find it wol
lol, me too
it's an no - compound word
I hate rotaries
hmm - ty gort - gets me started. :-)
aristocracy
ty gort :-)
yw
meanwhile, do you have a clue for the last ge4/8 and the first ha4/6 pls?
nope - but i will look for them
ge + hesitation syllable
ge + chewing g**
ugh, (smites forehead), thanks nrk
oh man - ty inge
ha = safe hav**
thanks inge
sorry, first 4/6 is ha + dorothy's aunt
i did have that one - just didn't know the order
got that one thanks nrk, i think i need the one before it, the ha4/6
just happened to peek in, leavnign for suipper now
bye inge
hi all, how's things in WordVille?
Hi Gwen - good
it's a pretty peachy grid, actually gwen
that's you done gort, yes? Congrats!
no, still working on the ha4/6
good to hear. i've been playing FarmVille and it's not my kinda game
ahh just got it - it's always the last place you look
yay gort!!!
I like farmville. :-)
today's fireworks are dedicated to wolvie and nrk
ty ty, probably the only one i will see gort. :-)
my farm is three days old. not too exciting yet. 8-)
wtg gortmold !!! ~~~ !!!
lol, can i clue anything to help you get there wol?
thanks gwen
it takes a bit to get it going, then it takes off Gwen. trust me
I have 2 more g's to go. Do you guys print out the clues?
farmville as in the app on facebook?
yep, i'm leaning a lot on the squirrel who dragged me into it.
no - I am 2/3rd's done, will be going to dinner soon, so will finish up after. :-) but ty
I don't print them, I just keep them open alongside the grid when I am using them
yes Reese
12 left here
ah, i dont like it much myself
you can friend me if you want Gwen, be a neighbor
yeah what nrk said
go nrkii go!
Dumb question- how do you do that?
it's a cute time waster
wolvie, sure, okay. can i find you of facebook as wolvie (she asked, expecting the answer no)
you email lickety and ask him to send you babble expert which allows you to have the clues juxtaposed (showing off there) with the grid
I just right click on the Lickety link and select open in a new window
you mean lickety's? I just pulled it onto my desktop, and open it to do side by side Kap. I restrict myself to not opening it until 3/4th's done tho. ;-) self torture
then I move the edge of the lickety box till it is narrow enough to fit along side
Wolvie, I restrict to 90%, except when I can't, like today, then I go for 80%
yes - we did a whole babble email go round - but you can find me under Sue Duff, Raleigh NC. :-)
the neat thing about babble expert is you can send words you've got from the grid, to the clues, so you can see what you've got and what you need, without coping and pasting
that's what i do to lickety's on sizing too nrkii
I have 86 words left- but I could use the help
okay, wolvie, i'm friending you now (or whatever you call it) TX
i don't copy and paste gort - i just type into lickety's
LOL - okay Gwen.
then I enter it into the grid - side by side
Hi Sue :) How's life on the farm?
ok, so you sort of double up, wol?
Oh, I copy and paste from grid to lickety... can't deal with double entry
wildcat from babble just found me. :-)
yes, they are open side by side gort - independent, but both usable
is there a reason you're avoiding bab expert?
fireworks!
i don't use expert cause i use a mac
congrats, nrk!!!
I don't double enter the whole grid - i just look for my blanks. visually, then i enter just the missing ones
c
Congrats nrkii!!
fear of new thing gort :)
fair enough dc
I am on a mac dc
also fair enough nrk
wow, that took less time that i thought, wolvie. and WTG nrkii !!! ~~~ !!!
Wolvie, I do exactly the same except I copy and paste when I first go to the list... saves me a couple of mins and fingers
Gwen - just accepted you and wildcat. :-)
okay, have to go find some sort of snack so my stomach won't growl during the interview... I really don't know why I'm doing this, but I guess if I want to be president some day, I better start with school board
oh. I don't do that much nrkii - i just look. maybe type 10 words into lickety to try them out
(lurking .. :) wolvie)
you can send me a farmville neighbor request Gwen - or do you want me to send one to you?
gortmold puts shiny TV smile on and says, "I use Babble Expert. It's the best. Saves me time and brain drain. New improved formula works even faster and it's 97% crap free!"
woot! back to farmville to make us adjoined (sound of chirping cartoon birds)
Hey there wildcat!
bye all -- happy babbling!
cool beans
bye nrkii - see you later
Gort - I probably would if i was on a pc. :-)
well, I am signing off for now, bbl - 65 to go. :-)
has anyone thrown a gauntlet in lickety's direction and challenged him to make a mac-compat. version?
I am just grateful for what he has done Gort. Bulk Add can be used by all, Expert is a blessing for some
i agree lyn
all righty, stuff to do, people to see (or is it the other way round?) anyhoo, toodle pip
Have a good day Gort
wolvie, i'm trying to "neighbor" you and it's stuck. i'll try again
need clue for re 7/36 please
argh. will try again in 1/2 hour or so
ca6.33, pls?
a ful tin of vegies perhaps DC
TY Mel - was wondering if the end would be used. How are you?
thanks, mel
doing good still in the middle of moving but I need a break =)
and you are both welcome
the re 7/36 is what you would do to those vegies if you put them back into the tins
or if you put new wicker on a chair seat, I think is more the proper definition lol
whew. firewords
yay DC I still have 132 to go
Congrats DC!
clue please for the sn 5/18??
Got that one, need the one after that
something that went way wrong, matches
rectangle, so needs to be in this grid!

hahahaha good find Jilli I didnt have that one
wb, jilli
the fish just hit me jil- thanks
(old army expression)
I have 85 left- some cool ones have APPEARED out of nowhere- but my longest word I got from your clues and I have no idea what it means
seain still don't get it. ty for the clue however
should I be embarrassed to say that it was one of the first words I found?
grinding to a halt I hate to list this early but might need to
Just found the fo5.18 winds ashamed to say
I still can't find the last L but I don't know which I am missing.
matches, I guess you missed my clue at 5:33
Who lives in Massachusetts?
Kap, are you not using Lickety's list?
Jillibus I'm looking for the second re 7/36
John Kerry?
I would have to print it out because I can't fit it on my screen. I am still trying to met my methods down
kap I live in Mass
Matches - Shirley temple used to have rin***** in her hair - chnage rin to re
Yeah, John Kerry. But I hope he is not playing Babble.
oh, sorry, matches
this site was listed somewhere as having the friendliest chat.

I need 10 more f words. It's hard to believe
the clue about the australian wingless bird- can you run that one again?
Kaplan You mentioned Massachusetts earlier is that where you live
evening!

I do live in Massachusetts

waving at kaplan from the south shore
Duxbury? Quincy?

good old plymouth
don't worry Kaplan can't remember the last time I was in Somerville....I live in Kingston
Somerville ain't what it used to be
we also have players from marshfield, dee-luxbury, and norwell
not sure i have ever been to somerville (although have certainly heard about it)
"what have u heard?
la la la ...not saying
Our congressman is running for the senate. He's a feisty one, he is.

black Knitter
Don't knock Athol!
oh duh ty
Thanks!
yvw !
103 words and finally NBT
woo hoo
This is much slower than wordsplay.net, but I think harder because you actually have to know the words.
you will discover all kinds of new words when playing Babble
But I can't use all those hard-found 3-letter words here, like cwm, ygo, ufo, tsk, goa, wae, hae, nae, vae...such a waste.
some real....some not so real
very True Knitter
you can use some of them by adding an s -- like cwms, goas etc
oh how can there possibly be 11 B words???
I have 5 of them
how can there be 34 F words?
I have 9 of them but hit the wall
Hi Jilli
i am about to utter 1 word in particular
F word that is
I am dumbfounded about the f words
LoL
So far this grid has mostly real words for a change -- or familiar babblets
or te6.27 - te4.5 as an adverb. Now thats an awkward word
There is something almost like a thing that u twirl in a parade- but not quite
tassel???
tsk tsk, aknit!
No it's a b word
one in each direction??
come on jilli you know you wanna try ;)
a bit like Mrs Be***, famous housekeeping book
oh, tassel was in the last grid
thanks lynxx - I'd never thought of it
te adverb?
housekeeping book? i hate keeping house
Don't be* ** getting that B word
Hell, I got it!
thanks, jillibus!
gazing at feet feeling stupid
ok what the heck kind of word is that re 6/27!
I have 77 left and another migraine!
oops TE word
re6/24?
finally figured it out
Hi all. Is every one here from MA?
not me
Bye all - have fun
I am, but I'm in VA today
NO!
seems so
Is it because MA is full of geeks?
Bye Lynxxx- Hi Kje
bye lynxxx
not me
hello dr
hi kje
geek was in the grid a week or two ago.
must me4 we are not geeks Kje
bye lynxx
and Jilli
Followed soon by nerd.
It's all those damn universities
of course we aren't, DR... we are the cool kids ; )
nerd is a popular word in the grids lately
we are all just very brilliant!
I think it even got spelt nurd once
which goes to prove something or other
re6/24?
Does anyone have that austrailian wingless bird with extra vowels clue again? I can't get it
We just have skill and ac6
re6/24 -- Miss Otis re*****, but change the r to another cons
em3 wingless bird, but stick in an extra vowel
wonders who miss otis is...
Blah have to go fold laundry and get clothes ready for work bbl
I can't get it.
wouldn't that defeat the point of a re6, jilli?
Hello everyone. FOr anyone who sent good thought out to my nephew yesterday, thank you all very much. He has begun to recover.
Otis regrets.
by speed
also wondering...caught on Miss Pettigrew lives for a day
113 words and finally nbt.
Miss otis ...
it's otis redding
THanks! 3 words from Miss otis clue!
Oh dear -- it's a Cole Porter wonder -- just google Miss Otis
ooooooooo - the ella fitzgerald song
I'm sorry- an extra vowel--where?
otis redding is a name too, that is what threw me
ty jilli, got it
Kap osted it at 6:13
Poor Miss Otis- hanging there...
I didn't mean to out it...
finally got that one! geez
don't think anyone noticed, kap
It wasn't quite it- tho it is something i deeply rue
well, that was the re7, actually -- the 6 is singular of course
LOL, kap!
Well, I just flew through the Fs . . .
Miss Otis re7 isn't in this grid, is it? Not enough rs
Kris, you have to change the middle r to another cons
wow jillibus! I only have 10...
Oh, it took me a while, Kris!
down to 75 left - bbiab
and Lickety helps
dinner time
well... breakfast time sorta
40 left here
I have the re7 from the clues - just wondering why Kap is re7 instead of the word, since it's not in the puzzle -- too close to PB?
what's for dinner, kje?
breakfast
No, it's 4 the birds. Still can't find where to put that vowel in the austrailian wingless bird- am running out of options. Driving me crazy.
Oy, wolvie, if you're still here, i keep trying to add you as a neighbor and it says i haven't "selected anyone" Oy it's a bug!
LOL!
scrambled eggs with chives, capers, smoked salmon on top of toast with chive butter
kaplan.... emeu
hehehe
poof
Kap, head straight down, then up to the right
naughty kje!!!
thanks for 'splainin' Kap - I get it (and have the birds)
or do what kje said
hey everyone!!
hi Luwanda!
D-uh
At least someone other than me revealed the answer- I am learning the etiquette
Uh-oh -- another HUGE icon! Luwanda, please see my bio for an easy way to resize. Huge icons gum up the chog and make it all jerky
i thought i reduced it. sorry
At this point I need to print out the clues because I can't see anything more. I have 2353 points. Is that bad?
kaplan, that's good, and way more than me
Kap -- I asked before -- are you not using Lickety and entering the words there?
No- I have to print it out to see it because it doesn't fit my screen together with the grid
oh -- you have to change your resolution
You mean you enter the words on the lickety page? Let me check that out again
i used to copy the clue list to word processor and erase them when I found them. printing it out sounds reasonable, as long as you don't mind the paper/toner consumption
Too technical, even for a person in massachusetts.
um, what does that have to do with it? LOL
I wasn't born here. Thanks folks for all your help.
Kaplay, cut and paste into the bulk add window on Lickety.
Kap, what are you doing in MA?
Just living.
Or Kaplan.
Very simple, kap -- use the Bulk Add, described at the bottom. Then you'll see where your missing words are. Then you can enter them at the top of the list as well as in your Add Word
when you find tham and they go to the right place.
Something must have brought you to MA. Nobody comes for the cost of living, except from San Francisco
ahhhh, kap. what i do is make the game window a little narrower and make the lickety list very narrow, so that they both fit on the screen side by side. do you know how to do that?
He claims to have a life but he is playing Babble. Something doesn't match here. :^)
I woke up here 30 years ago and decided to stay. I have to figure out the instructions you are telling me. Just because I have OCD doesn't mean I'm smart
perfect pastime for OCD Kaplan. I do what welki does
except I'm on a netbook tonight, so will Alt-tab my way when I get to the list, if I don't give up and watch The Biggest Loser
you woke up in Mass?
ce 6/21 please the first one
More like I just sort of settled here and got older...
I came in 1986 for a year...and stayed
you came from GErmany?
I am making this much harder on myself by not using lickety. I will figure it out. Goodnight.
by bye kaplan
See you anon, Kap -- persist, like a good OCD
I'm headed upstairs to my room; will be back or will watch TBL. Bye all just in case -
resized jilli. i had tried using photoshop - unsuccessfully
oh, so glad it worked, Lu! What a cute picture!
And now the chog is running smoothly
bfn, kris ;)
i obviously need to study photoshop more
thanks! she's a joy
well, i'm stopping with 68 to go. Pulling proverbial teethies. POINK
hello again
photoshop is tricky
hi again kje -- how was breadfast/dinner?
*breakfast

better on challah, but very good on a rustuc bread as well
rustuc bread?
use your imagination jilli
rustic
well, you never know, once you've been Babbleised
lol
well, what did you put on the bread?
oh, thought you already knew that - typed it in earlier
sorry, mised it
toasted bread topped with chive compound butter then topped with scrambled eggs with smoked salmon, capers, chives
oh, YUM!!!
yep - made several compound butters over the weekend so now in the freezer
Hello all. Back for my final 32.
51 here jac
I could adapt that to what I have on hand, maybe! Naan bread, plain butter sprinkled with green onion, then the eggs etc but again green onion instead of chives?
Hi jac -- 4 left here
green onion would be fine
slice the green tops only and do them thin
that's what I would do
Hi jac
Thanks! *wiping drool off chin*
yw

* listening to Mel's evil giggle *
you would be lucky to find a QUART of milk foe under $2 there
winco 1.98 milk cant beat that
no kidding!
Wal-Mart is close, too
yeah safeway prices are just plain crazy
and their club cards are worthless...
yes, Wal mart is under 2.00 as well I think actually like 1.97
i was afraid of this...would have been better to not eat at all than eat this late. now i am hungry. i was not hungry before i began to eat.
when I need bulk stuff, I'll still go somewhere else where the price for 2 is equivalent to safeway's 1
yep yu used to get good deals with the cards now its a joke
Hi all, the milk thing. it depends on where you are. In Penna, it was like 1.65 but here in Florida, its 3.00 or more....
yeah, I gave up the "privilege" of having club cards...definitely not worth it anymore
hi red
Hi TO.
hopefully your pay is comensurate
I saw somewhere else is doing 'cards' and was thinking oh brother, but there card was morel ike a credit card that gave you special savings if you had it.
Not really but its just we arent near any dairy in PA, the dairy was next door.
ah....
afk a sec need to go see what it making a strange noise
hi red!
hb ;)
i think fla has high food prices. i know this area does. in PA competition is fierce so prices are lower
I don't think we have much competition here...you shop at the yuppy stores or you shop were you can afford... ;)
(if that made sense)
Publix is very expensive, but Super target or gasp...walmart is ok, excepting the milk.
walmart is only as low as they have to be and in this area is not always the lowest for hba. nor food.
I've never seen a Super-Target...
the Wal-Marts here compete with Winco...Safeway, Albertsons, Market of Choice...well, they're the yuppy clubs ;)
AND you are stuck with the brand they carry, not the widest range
there are definitely instances of that...
...and there are somethings I don't skimp on like Kellogg's Pop Tarts!!!
Market of choice has a like an totally awesome sell of one or two items but you must only buy those as everything else is super marked up
and I think the store near campus rapes your wallet...can't believe it's that way especially so close to campus...poor students.
wal mart is only good on a few items and then they get you on the others, I have leanred to buy staples at winco and fill in here and there from wal mart, like they johnsonville brats are super cheap at walmart
Mel, we should go shopping together sometime...I love a good bargain!
When I live in Bend oregon there were 2 different albersons, and Yuppie one with everything from caviar to reg food, and there prices on average were way higher than the other alblertsons across town
isn't that just annoying?
uh oh...i am suddenly extremely tired
I might drive you nuts lol I am a fast shopper I know exactly what I want and I zoom around lol, oh another thing wal mart's bread is highway robbery way cheaper at winco for good bread too not generic crap
I agree, Mel...
oh TO, not going to finish? perhaps you were just out of 'fuel' and the food you ate will kick in and give you energy
...and if I'm a mission...we can race!!! but sometimes window shopping (with company, of course) can be rather fun (doing it alone sucks)
i need 95
i would have liked a smaller grid tonight

hi neilaso
hello
nm...got it
is someone giving out hints or somthing? (just stumbled upon this website)
welcome aboard...to get started, consider checking out the HELP above the chog ;)
we're a fun group so stick around!!! ask questions as you need to! :)
cool! thanks!
* beaming grin *
should i give any importance to the averaged score?
not at all
ok
Simply put, the goal is to find all the words (today's grid = 256) within the allotted 24-hour period...
does anyone ever find them all?
...and enjoy great conversation with really cool people while you're at it! :)
we often do, yes, neil
For instance, I will probably finish (I hope)...I have 28 words left to find.
one to go.....(for example..)
how are you doing with this one?
git'r dun, harp!!!
and many of us change icons every day, just for laffs!
Yeah, harp, so we have to remember not to bank on recognizing anyone by their icon!!!
wow thats impressive
done!
And some of us never change! ;-)
hiya Nef!!
WTG Harp!!!
Hi Pini!
WTG, Harp! YAY!!!!!
props
If you'd like some help to get started, neil, check out Lickety's Babble Clue (list) link found below the grid...it will give you a list of the first 2 letters of all the words in the grid, their letter length, and point value
is that what the noobs do?
(if you open it in a separate window and then set the grid and the list side-by-side, you can follow along with us as we ask for clues - that'll get you into the hang of it) :]
I want to give you a fair warning, the grid changes every 24 hours at midnight CST (USA); so you have just over 1 1/2 hours to find a bunch of words!
It depends...some jump right in, some use "aids", some ask questions, some ask for the answers (which we don't give) :)
ok
Oh, and if you get hooked, you will be assimilated, resistance is futile!
i saw something about a hydrocarbon...?
You'll also find hints in the chog when people ask for clues...
And lots of us Olt timers use Lickety too (but maybe not til we get about 1/2 way through the grid
that was a clue, neil...but I forget for which word
ok
that was for ce 6/21
hi guys.. back to finish
You'll also hear people speak of Babblets (a word that commonly appears in grids); or PB (penalty box) - an imaginary place we send people for typing words in the chog (chat log)...fully stocked with lots of chocolate, of course!
hi ru ;)
yaaaa....i dont understnad that lingo with the ce 6/21
I have the ce 6 that sounds like a breath mint.. need help on the other
ce = first 2 letters of the word; 6 = number of letters; 21 = point value of the word
ok I am back- homework is done
wb DR
ty Pini
ce are the first 2 letters of the list (From Lickety's list) it has 6 letters and is worth 21 points

there's amtrack in yelm, that's on the other side of the county from me. they go to Eugene, then go east of the mountains, then somewhere back to the coast side of the coast range... *sigh* nothing is simple.

that is good news Granny
hey grannyrose! wonderful news, indeed!
If you take the train down remember to bring a blanket as it does get chilly at night
redding would be a logical place, meliae.
I haven't been on a train in probably 40 years (or more) LOL
couldn't be much more though, since I do remember being on a train!
thanx all. had a very long talk with my surgeon. i'm even allowed to get on the motorbike again, as pillion only, :(
and the food on the train if you eat in the dinning car is actually quite good, the snack car is not so good, lol
so true Mel!
I bring food from home for snacking and eat dinner in the dining car
I need to go help the stidkid for a few. back when I can. *mini poof*

stidkid is NOT going to turn in all of his work on time this week. oh well. *resigned mama shrug* he has regular work to do in addition to catching up on work from being sick last week. His time management skills need refinement, too.
(still on phone with 1 word to go)

Hi again all :)
164 left here
hey jill!
down to 98 now
gogogo stiddy!
go jmc go!
is there a list?
clues available here
hi jill
95 and I am done for the night. going to just visit for a bit.
gogogo jmc ;)
Jill -- I have something of yours at my house that I wasn't able to get to you. Shall I just mail it?
I feel awful sitting on it...
I might not make it North for at least another month.
might as well, stid, and let me know how much it costs (well, I'll find out when it arrives anyway)
*trying imagine what stid can sit on and still mail*
also, did Bugs show up today with any news on her nephew?
it's the size of a breadbox, jmc!
well, stid, there's no hurry -- the one I have is working
okay, if what you have is working, I shall get this one ready and mail it "soon" but not tomorrow.
Bugs dropped in briefly -- didn't hear. I also wonder how sprite made out with the neurologist
*mystified*
jmc, it's the filter part for a coffee-maker.
jill -- dog training advice please... Lucky is SO SAD that I am gone so much. he is quite a pest when I am home, even though I spend (what seems to me) a lot of time talking to him and playing with him.
oh jill! I wanted jmc to think we were up to something nefarious! like maybe the head of your unfaithful lover or something.
will he ever get used to my being away weekdays?
ROFL!!!
why would she sit on it?
stid, I'm no help there -- our dogs were seldom alone.
that's okay jill -- I'll ask one of our vets when dog goes in for shots next week.
Maybe you should get him a pet? No kidding.
its probably an age thing. when he gets older he will calm down
howdy all...very late start for me 162 left well I had fun anyway..that's the point...
try turning your back on him when he gets too jumpy and completely ignoring him until he stops and then as soon as he settles down lavish him with praise and attention....he will soon learn that the way to get you to play is to sit patiently and wait for you to come to him
jmc, you know that story in the bible about the lady who sat on the treasure and her father in law searched the whole tent but not where she was sitting...
lol stiddie
thanks dick! that has been sort of my approach... but maybe not consistent enough. I will try harder.
hi mp and dick
hey MPittore!
hi MPitt -- and haven't seen you in ages, dick
well, I am exhausted, stidkid#2 is STILL awake... and so much to do before school tomorrow.
stid listen to dick...that is the best advice...my niece is a dog trainer has a web site KKT dog training...and that's what she does...and she has trained really wild dogs
BTW, the next icon theme is Eagles.
Hello everyone, hope tomorrow's is a smaller grid
yeah, consistency is always key...keep calm, be firm, and be sure to give him no attention for misbehaving...if he is missing you, he will probably be just as happy with positive or negative attention
btw jill, he was working on identifying locations of civil war battles and events... and mentioned he thought D.C. was "somewhere up here" (and indicated the great lakes region) *sigh*
hey flosey! how did you fare in the storm?
storm?
hey jilli...i'm in the process of writing my dissertation proposal so i'm not on here too often anymore
you know, the pineapple expresses that came through the last couple days.
oh dear! Kids don't even learn the geography of their own country?
had quite a bit of rain, but wouldn't call it a storm stid
what subject, dick?
*waves at stidkid* I am in Houston in the state with the last battle of the civil war
they do jill -- but he isn't a map maker like his elder brother.
you got LUCKY flosey!
math education - the importance of authentic contexts to word problems
guess we did, stid
of course I grew up there and have been to almost ALL of the battlefields and such, while he hasn't been further east than walla walla
we had LOTS of rain and high winds. Flosey lives in a valley.
wonderful topic, dick! so necessary for students to have real applications (in all subjects)
yes, heard high winds - love to hear them - as long as I'm cozy inside
that's true, but I wasn't sure if the winds would circle around and come UP the valley. they do that sometimes to my parents.
652 words is what I predict!
I am NOT going to teach math above 5th or 6th grade when I am certified as a teacher, but I sure appreciate having materials that are ...
nothing violent stid
whoa, I'm not a numbers person but stid is
MELIAE!!!! *gets out soap to wash out meliae's mouth* the VERY IDEA~!!! *indignant mama look*
ooooohhh, mel, you're my kinda gal
oh mel, you wash your mouth out with soap
hahahah sputter sputter
lol Stid
appreciate materials that are properly designed for the older students I tutor.
lining up with mel, mouth open
mel I won't have enough time tomorrow!
