hi norma, you caught me in a sleepy misplaced word!
It is a shame I already had that one ... could you type in a few more lol

and the m's
nutty
sorry, I'm very distracted this AM, husband is in a foul mood!
happy valentine's to me!
Who upset him ??
my fault, of course
It usually is the females fault ...
and then we can't talk about it, so it becomes the elephant in the room
Just smile sweetly it usually wrong foots them lol
it's probably too late for that, so I'm just hiding out in the studio
Probably an excuse not to buy a dozen red roses lol
actually, he bought me roses yesterday when we were out for lunch but only because he felt guilt about having been a jerk on Friday
Any list this morning?
At least you got some roses.. mine isn't even out of his bed yet to be grumpy lol
you're lucky!
Thank heaven for small mercy's lol

Hi all. Just here briefly while coffee is brewing. I see we have the story of a marriage in the grid: lo 4/7, lu 4/5 and du 4/8.
too funny sally. good morning. I was busy whining, as usual, at the state of mine!
how did you do with yesterday's gargantuan grid?
List?
List?
I did finish it but had to use a list - just because of time really! We were out at a do in the evening and I sneaked in and finished up at midnight our time. Today's is just the right size for me, and although I have only just started the words are leaping out at me.
gm rump
Hi, just looking for a list.
dial
sorry
Going to see to coffee. Back later.
see you later, sally
Did anyone post a list - stuck with 55 to go
hi anike
Hi everyone
back later, stopping short of half!
humpphh..yet another example of hemispherical bias...#
Your point rolin?
it wont allow dunny... but we have lots of north hemisphere slang
There is a list in my profile if anyones needs it... Will leave myself online so you can get to it easily...
ty lorrie
yvw and gl :)
Thanks Lorrie - will try to battle on without for a while - 35 to go
they also have an anti-art terms bias and a very selective acceptance of foreign foods
e.g. anse
hi lorrie, where are you in SA? I used to go there from time-to-time on biz trips, especially PE
Hi ruby - lorrie is in Cape Town and I am in Durban
Good morning all Hows the grid tiday?
I've only been in Cape Town once, never in Durban, although I've heard it's beautiful. PE was always a great pleasure for me
and I still have lots of friends in SA, even though I'm retired
hello FM!
What bus were you in?
business - sorry not bus
Hi ruby and ursh
hi fmitch
we imported architectural and automotive glass from SA to the US. I was in technical sales
can anyone clue the ve5 please ;)
latin plural of the 4 before
ty ursh, that worked!
Thanks ursh but I dont know any latin lol
plurals with a vowel instead of an s
I've been to jo'burg a few times and Pretoria, always wanted to go to Cape Town but never managed to make it that far south. Did spend a weekend at Sun City once, incredible fantasy land.
I had one weekend in the eastern Transvaal which was wonderful
I can't find any of the top-row e's
oh, I got one! duh
It is an incredible country and I feel very privilege that I had the opportunity to visit it (and many others in the course of work).
Hows Max doing now that he has had his shots ruby?
that's how I felt, too
better than before, but when the cortisone shot wore off yesterday, he started biting himself again. I put him on the oral form this AM, but he is still itching like crazy and bit off a large chunk of tail hair last night. Now he is left with a tuft at the end
Thanks ursh finally got it ....
Morning Norma
poor fellow, hope he finds some respite soon.
it makes me sick to see him suffer
Morning FM
but at least it isn't life-threatening, so that's something
indeed!
time to make my husband's campari, see you later
TTFN
he is being horrible, happy valentine's day to me! ruefully......
Happy Valentines day Ruby
You, too, Norma

at least the girls are all right!!! lol
Had to smile this morning, popped to the local supermarket and there were guys desperately buying valentines cards and grabbing bunches of flowers.
Talk about leaving it to the last minute!

Dinner time so will say farewell - happy babbling
Hey everybody -(if theres anyone there..) i see the fish is here today. Is there a list posted anywhere?
I am surry the Aussies amongst us are disappointed that dunny is not allowed!!
Ha Ha - Not just the Aussies
Hi Soodle and Deeha List is in my profile.
surry?? sure!
Well, after all the references to bodily fluids in yesterdays marathon, maybe they will be relieved (pardon the pun)
Hi folks just killing a little time before getting ready to go babysitting for a couple of days
Hoho!!
Thanks for the list, FM. :)
good day all
spritey sprite!!! hello dear.
FM :D *hug*
How are you?
Hiya Sprite. Lovely to see you.
I am good. And computer is good again too.
Soodle :) *hug* to you too. Happy Valentine all.
splendid.
brilliant icon, Soodle! So true!
and how are you, FM? And you, Soodle?
:)
Lovely I agree with that Soodle. Saw another nice sign I agreed with 'You can always surprise your husband on your anniversary just by telling him what day it is'!
Am well, waiting for spring and loving watching all the sprouting life in the garden. 1st garden I have had in about 13 years.
I'm good too, Sprite.
am so happy for you, FM.
wa
glad to hear it, Soodle.
Morning all......!!
It is a funny icon Soodle. Happily I have a cleaning lady starting on Tuesday so I can spend even more hours infront of the PC :)
morning Flask
oh that is great, FM :)
*hides green face of envy in grid*
Oh FM, I saw the great 'Cleaning Lady' debate on babble, and i didn't join in, as I was fighting the green-eyed monster.
*grin* you and me, Soodle?
Life is too short to fret about the cleaning and I hate doing it so made the decision. Awe Soodle! Haz'z response was SO funny!
what did Haz say?
Righteous indignation!
For some reason my pc wont let me open any of the profiles....so could anyone who has a list....email it to me please?
She was compelled to type in capital letters but calmed down afer she got over the shock.
I will Flask, is yr email addy in yr profile?
I would, but don't see your addy?
oh please share, FM, I like Haz's sense of humour.
I will put it there now....sorry!....lol
will leave it to you then, FM, since you have the list in your profile, hahaha
She just went WHAT? and then said that she would ahve to clean up before the cleaning lady came. It was so funny at the time.
but it did take her a while to recover from the shock.
There was also a reference to the good old days when women had to make their own clothes!
There was also a reference to the good old days when women had to make their own clothes!
Ooops. got the hiccups.
thats it done now!
that IS funny. We have this comic series in the Netherlands about a family and one of those is about the same thing. The overworked housewife who is presented by her loving family with a Cleaning Lady... and starts cleaning the house like mad before she arrives.
If anyone needs a gift for Valentines Day, I have an additional free pass for a tour of the local landfill.
Flask - email is on it's way to you.
just a hug will do,, thanks BabbleRabble ;) Glad to see you.
Oh you romantic thing BR!
Thanks BabbleRabble - I see your getting into the Valentines Spirit. :)
and this is my Valentine's gift to you, BabbleRabble: Honorificabilitudinitati bus
di 7/32 please
hello gran, sorry, can't help you yet
Have you got the 'far away' one, Gran
thanks Soodle!
Thanks got it now!
Thank you, sprite. I am honored.
great clue thanks soodle
yqw
am amazed and delighted about the lo4 word that opens this grid. How fitting for today!
sheesh I had missed that one but have found the volcano.
Thanks Sprite. I didn't see that one
more passion than lo4, FM? ;)
And the fish is here too.
the honor is mine, BabbleRabble
if you found the volcano, you also have found the initial poker stake
Sprite found the Cupid word - FM found the volcano, and i found the fish.... Now what does that say about the three of us???
BR - your icon ... are they thd dreadful things that are supposed to live in the mattress??
LOL
that we are a great team, Soodle
Absolutely
Yes, I am getting quite good at herding them
Or else that I need to get out more, Sprite!!
lol Soodle
mind over mattress, BabbleRabble
most romantic thing I've seen ...
I am enjoying the chat today, but I must go and do other stuff. Have a good day all. Poof!
have a good day, Soodle
Bye Soodle
hi Christine
hi, everyone.
if only I were a volcano... all day long I would smoke at my leasure and whenever people passed me by, they would say: Look, she is active!
lo4/7, lu4/5 and now nu5/14 and 6/24 There is a theme developing here.
it is indeed. I like that theme.
add some frilly un6/24
LOL thanks Christine hadn't got that one.
Not that mine are frilly, these days.
good idea. And un6/24 would be nice after a bit of bondage...
and st4,6... add that to the theme
Jonny Lee Millar
Oh good one Brookie, didn't have that one either!
jo Ntopplor. movr!
Que?
By the way, for anyone who's following my personal life (not that I'm expecting it), Mr. Australia has arrived.
hm, isn't that interesting. Fingers on keyboard one key to the right. Hi Brookie, nice!
...and?....
... and ....???
Hello all
is that good news, Brookie?
That's 2/3 of my Spanish, other than menu-ese
We're having a great time!!!
hi lyn :)
Greetings lynxxx
Hi lynxxx and everyone, by the way (sorry for not saying hi before)
wonderful, Brookie
and how were the TimTams?
Haven't tried the TimTams yet. He's been staying in a hotel while my older son is with me. Thanks for remembering, though, lynxxx!
I'll just say there's LOTS of chemistry.
Probably my best valentines day ever!
*sits here beaming and being happy for Brookie*
Wow! Fireworks for Brookie!
(Thank you )
(in light of the theme it is a shame that suave is a phantom) --> side comment
so are sauna and soave.
I could have done with a nice saune for sure
Need to get some more transcription work done before we pick up my friend from the hotel. Happy Valentine's Day everyone, and happy babbling!
Brookie, enjoy to the hilt!
Bye Brookie, have a lovely fortnight
*sauna, not saune
Thanks, lynxxx and sprite, poof!
I figured you were speaking in shorthand - a glass of soave in the sauna.
oh that sounds good!
you're so very suave.
I wish :)
goodness that we7/48 is a new word for me
Time for a cup of tea - back soon.
enjoy, Christine
ok, now I must find it or I'll go bananas from curiosity.
lol sorry
hahaha no I like that
Hi all....am back!
welcome back Flask
Hi Flask
hi and thanx for list!
hi Flask
you're welcome.
Hi lynxxx!
aeon
btw I have a question... I have come across a sentence construction that I don't understand. Like: now we must needs find you something else to do. I don't understand the 'needs' part, but I see it so often, I know it is correct. Could somebody explain it to me?
Ooop!...bad start...lolol
thanks Flask ;)
yvw Sprite!!
That doesn't make sense to me either sprite.
ok... thanks FM, will write down some actualy examples and ask again some other time.
I couldn't begin to try and explain it....
Haz will be the one to enlighten us all.
6 left to find so am diving back in.
Well you do realise FM that Sprite really means when the clever folk are here.....lmao....
the 'needs' means , by necessity or inevitably - as needs be or as needs must - old English really
thats it lynxxx!
alow
ooh - thanks Flask
yvw lynxxx!
Yes! found the el5/6 sets!
flipping heck had the nu5/14 and the 6/24 but missed the other 6/24
phew quick break from the kitchen
hi Katie
hi lynxxx
TY FM so had I - too modest I guess
and that is fireworks for me Hi Katie!!
congrats & hi FM
Hooray for FM!
sorry, had to run, kid in need of help
Thank you thank you and now time for lunch. Back in a bit.
wtg FM, and thanks lyn for explaining. And Flask, ALL of you are smart people ;)
hi Katie
Hi sprite
old english, that makes sense, I think I have mostly seen it either in a medieval setting or in more 'official' speech.
'as needs be' is occasionally used to end a sentence, in other words - well I'll do it if I absolutely have to!
hi all
hello everyone
that construction I understand. It is that combination of must and needs that confuses me. But you helped me on my way to learning to understand it, thanks lyn :)
hi jmc
hi jmc
hi Annie!
hi Annie
hi lynxxxxie and spritey
and hi jmc
how are you, Annie? And you, jmc?
Im fine, thanks
nu5/14 was an old-time costume maker, who ferssed lots of Hollywood cowboys (mucho sequins), Elvis and such.
i am fine
good!
and you Sprite?
he didn't derssed them, he dressed them.
i'm off again to finish lunch, visitors arrive in a hour and a half!!
sprite i am not sure i can explain must needs except that i believe it connotes compulsion
hi and bye katie
bye Katie, have fun
bye katie
bloomi' heck, even my corrections are messed-up.
I read derssed twice and understood it
bye Katie, enjoy!
I like derssed better
there is a Texas expression of saying I might could do that that you may light
er *like
thanks jmc, compulsion makes sense to me too.
I read deserted... ouch
oh please tell, jmc
I read deserved lol *poof&
lyn: I am ok. Computer back to work too, and my energy is up. :)
well might of course means that you may do something
could means that you are capable of doing something
OMGosh
might could means you may do something and you are capable of doing it
Excellent, just make sure you continue like that Sprite - and that's an order, lol
my husband used to lhao everytime i said it
that is interesting, jmc. If I had come across that without your explanation, I'd have thought it meant something like: I could be convinced to do it, if you'd make it worth my while
it sorta means you are thinking about it but you admit it is possible
lol lyn, yes ma'm, sir!
i should go change icons -- i got home from Albany, found a place to part amid the snow and fell into bed last night!
yours is a wonderful language
2 toed sloth/s are here
ok, I'd better google them first, before I go hunting for words I already have but don't know the meaning of :)
there!
lyn, I always thought 2 toed sloths were just "ais" (I got this from crossword puzzles)
could you give me the first 2 letters?
crossword puzzles are a great source of useful information
alt spell to the one we usually have - today is un4.6 & 5
Sprite, it's wonderful because we've "borrowed" from all over the world - a sort of stew.
It is wonderful because it is made up of soem many other languages
thanks lyn!
lyn, I got the sloths, thanks
clues please for an7/28 and 6/18 please???
use your word on the end Annie
an7 ends in that boys name which is always here & is never singular
that is part of it, certainly. But there is more to it. The structure is so very alive, it has so many possibilities and facets and subtleties.
an6 girls name & Mr Gore
it helps that it grew up in pockets around the United States
but alas t.v. is melting those differences
that is only too true. Even british english and american english are becoming a mix.
don't see the an7
an: girl's name + had for dinner + consonant
or an & n5.10
walter croncrite was from Texas but almost no one knows that because he (and dan rather) realized that a texan accent would not be trusted so they learned to sound like a midwesterner
found ty
sigh *found it ty
I can be so blind to words that only have 'plural' form
I have typed that so many times I should remember it
that makes me feel better sprite :-) good to know one of the real pros at this share my struggles
*giggle*
A hundred years ago, when I was in school, 'they' worked to get rid of our regional accents - more BBC was desirable. Then came the redbrick universities, and suddenly it was 'in' to sound as if you came from the docks area.
lol, I think I share all the struggles Babble can provide. Plus some of my own, like the K word struggle.
and maybe in a decade or so, they will want to go back to more BBC. Funny, how even things like this are subjected to fashion
i remember Northernors telling me that Jimmy Carter sounded dumb because of his Georgia accent
I mean the man is a nuclear scientist!
what? wanna is not a word!
The toughest part of babble for me is looking for words I already have.
i have been known to do that from time to time BR
good morning BR
hi BR!
lol BabbleRabble. Finding them won't be the problem... but getting them accepted after entering!
I mean it was so fun finding it the first time, why not do it again?
We have a new UK show here - Colleens Real Women - the accent is so broad and the 'english' usage so bad I literally cringe at times
Hello, folks
of what is your icon a picture? dust mites?
my daughter watched a program about an animal shelter and I really couldn't understand one of the ladies, her accent was so broad.
Yes, a friend sent them to me
that's why i love closed captioning sprite
i am not sure i would consider someone who sent me dust mites a friend!
Years ago in the US a woman was a broad
when my daughter was a teenager and used the phrase "so fun" I corrected her. I thought it was "so much fun". Am I wrong or has "so fun" become an accepted part of our speech? I dont mean to correct here, just curious?
i would watch british mysteries and miss stuff because I couldn't understand the accent all the time
i have no problem with so fun
I would say so much fun, but as a foreigner, I tend to be way behind new developments in the language
indeed... some broad from the country :)
more like some broad from the city!
I do not have a problem with it either
so how do you tell them apart from your own, BabbleRabble?
jmcnrick - I've lived here for so long, sometimes I can't understand what's said on British shows.
lol christine
if you have a problem with "so fun" how about "funner"? oy!
Esprit, Double oy! for funner
i have a problem with "funner"!
hi EdJean, ouch!
hi esprit
TV people who say straight when they mean consecutive.
I know, ridiculous.
funner is nicer! hi Espritd
straight and consecutive are ok, I can see that
hy lyn
what gets me are the tv reporters who say "more unique"!!
lolllll @ more unique!
I remember the nuns of long ago going nuts over more unique
or very unique.
From an English Forum: Strictly a young person’s usage: “That party was so fun!†If you don’t want to be perceived as a gum-chewing airhead, say “so much fun.â€
nuder is a good one too
my mother would throw things if anyone modified unique around her
now that's what I like. Clear guidelines. I don't chew gum. So much fun.
BR, I agree. But you are not a gum chewing airhead?
hi folks, this topic was one of the categories on Jeopardy last night - words that can't be modified , like pregnant, unique, etc.
I remember DD & her friends used 'he goes" and "I go" , but she and they grew up to be lovely women.
I never heard anyone misuse "borrow" and "lo**" until I came to chicago
*hands BR a tissue to put his gum in*
now if you were a bit nuder, you'd be more unique and the onliest person I'd be watching
lol sprite
"I'm going to "borrow" him my book
and how fun is that ? ;)
witching hour here, goodnight all
usually the other way around,Jean - i'm going to loan him (instead of lend)
why won't it acccept waaay - very very far.
why won't it acccept waaay - very very far .
why won't it acccept waaay - very very far .
why won't it acccept waaay - very very far .
why won't it acccept waaay - very very far .
why won't it acccept waaay - very very far .
my mother used to have fits if you used loan as a verb at all -- lend is the verb
Hiccup.
I'm talking about people with advanced degrees saying "I'm going to borrow him some money" or similar
it'd be funner than less nude
never heard that
there there chistine
hello all
arghhh dJean, that is weird
sure is
And authors, who are paid to write in our language, who misplace only.
hey TOwl
hi Owl
i love the people who use "he and I" when they mean "him and me" but they are trying to sound educated
misplace only how?
hi TO
Afternoon all. May I add my two pennyworth please? I have a problem with TV announcers who say they will be back in half an hours time. Is that different to half an hours lemons? Surely half an hour can only be time.
amen to that jmc
Just returned. What about deader, which is often on Babble and makes me cringe every time?
hi Frances, I agree
to true frances
Sally: yes! So silly
"deader than a doornail"
there used to be a saying in NJ "Deader'n Kelsey's nuts"
I suppose if it's very cold outside and you're nuder, you might end up deader.
LOL, Jean
yayyyy Sally, you solved it :D
I taught DD simple eays to remember who/whom, I/me, and such. My mother taught us the same reminders.
*shivers*
I shudder every time I hear that. And weather forecasters who say that it will be 'largely' dry. IU think they mean 'mostly' dry.
how about the perpetuation of misCHEVIOUS instead of Mischievous?
who is kelsey and why are his poor nu** dead?
Christine, could you tell me those reminders? I think I am doing ok, but would love to have a check
never found that out jm
Weather forecasters are the worst! Such as "showery rain" - how is that different from just rain, or showers? And have you noticed the new use of "some brightness"?
I am amused at "I, personally, think" ... as opposed to "I, impersonally, think"?
I am amused at "I, personally, think" ... as opposed to "I, impersonally, think"?
I, personallly, think, therefore I, personally, am
Sally. They are covering their backs.
*imaging the torture of kelsey and weeping in my beer for him*
With all that rain I suppose they would need to.
*grabs jmc's beer away from her and glares. No abuse of alcohol on my watch!*
I could see showery rain as opposed to pouring rain, torrential rain etc, it's just a descriptor
Or I myself personally. When a simple I would do BabRab.
brb
ah nothing like a word forum for a productive rate on the misuse of the english language
Sallycatlover - we have a tv weatherman who promises there will be weather today -- thank heavens for that. I hate days when there's no weather.
there are so many babblers who will be so sad to have missed this rant!
am enjoying this chat immensely :)
thank goodness for archives
now that is some forecast! I am impressed.
this is so much fun!
Most days, I don't finish, because I'm engrossed in the chat.
Gosh, where would we English be without the weather to talk about?
I, alas, must personally myself take on the not very unique task of salting my steps because there might could be weather today
you could talk language!
brilliant, jmc
patrick kennedy is retiring from congress.
There's a thought sprite.
well said, jmc
oh poor patrich kennedy -- did the bottle finally get him?
I heard that acouple of days ago TO.
*blushes* I was actually rereading TOwl's post to see where the language baddie was.
the last time i saw him he was trying to give speech as drunk as a skunk
Does anyone know why some peple are protesting the Games, in Vancouver?
(I often wonder where the poor skunks get the alcohol)
they don't like sports?
lol sprite
its always something chistine
lol happy little critters aren't they?
considering the way they smell, they might foment it on the inside, jmc
they may be protesting the Israelis being there
they may be protesting the fact that African countries aren't there because of the crushing World Bank debt (lack of snow not being considered important)
Are they protesting at the trades description act? Winter sports without much snow.
oh here we go - abc's talk show will hav e dick cheney on to critique obama. now what in the world is the purpose of that except to get ratings?
they maybe protesting that the US and GB -- notorious warmongering nations--are there
my friends are people with boundless imagination when looking for something to protest!
*admits knowing lesser than nothing about politics*
Oh TO, don't talk about ratings. They're all at here with a General Election coming in May.
most of the protesters know less than nothing about politics either sprite
oh subject will be changed, just saying is alljust sitting here shaking my head.
too true, jmc
Sorry Sprite, just came back. I/me - drop the other person fdrom the sentence, and you're left with I or me - I went to the park, so Jim and I went to the park, not Jim and me' who/whom - him & whom both end in M, so to whom did you give the gift not who - think of thwe answer - would you say him or he? My Mum was full of little reminders for language and math and jsut about everthing that came at you.
and so many of them are my friends and colleagues *shakes head sadly*
Happy VD...anyone have a list?
hi kim
but I am sure I do not have VD
thanks Christine! Copied it, that will help me!
hi kim, FMitch does
thanks
oh my - new airline fee.
*tries to turn off TO's access to news* TO you are fretting yourself! lol
Question: Could you please clarify the usage of the words "anyway" and anyways"? Answer: "Anyways" is nonstandard. Use "anyway."
LOL you are right, time to go get dressed.
oh, jmcnrick - they call us warmongers, but almost every country has come to U for help, and almost all have received it. I'm English, 'tho I've lived here for a very long time, but I remember how US helped UK after WWII.
i cannot disagree christine and yet i wish we would learn better ways to help
good one, BabbleRabble. Another very clear answer.
<=== peace monger
some have labeled me a monger monger
how do you monger monger BR?
Selling mongers, huh?
as I read on a wall: fighting for peace is like f*cking for virginity. I'd wish there was a peaceful solution to everything. But when I look at myself, I know I have a lot to learn still before I can make peace in my own life, let alone in that of others.
I am a proponent of Jesus's foreign policy== give food and a drink to those that hate you
we certainly do that.
US sure does.
we provide less than 1% of our budget in foreign aid
when the sunami hit we provided less than any other country in the world to help
sprite, bookmark this site: http://www.wsu.edu/~brians/errors/
We're faster into Haiti than we were into New Orleans.
that claim is difficult to believe jmc
thanks BabbleRabble, bookmarked. That is interesting!
oh I remember something... let me see if I can find it.
and with our large budget that proportion in proportion to the receiver is key
jmc, that's not "hard dollars" right? it's in proportion to the population?
/www.nationalpriorities.org/ <=== not my organization
a friend of mine sent me this:
Here are Rick's Rules for Riters 1. Verbs HAS to agree with their subjects. 2. Prepositions are not words to end sentences with. 3. And don't start a sentence with a conjunction. 4. It is wrong to ever split an infinitive.
tx jmc
in the sunami case it was dollars not propotionally to budger
5. Avoid clichés like the plague. (They're old hat.) 6. Be more or less specific. 7. Parenthetical remarks (however relevant) are (usually) unnecessary. 8. Also too, never, ever use repetitive redundancies. 9. No sentence fragments.
10. Don't use no double negatives. 11. Proofread carefully to see if you any words out or mispeld something. 12. Eschew obfuscation.
:D
(but i like parentheses!)
*budget
Very straight forward , sprite
(but maybe bugger -- I will have to think about that)
i don't wait for my government to do for me. i do for myself. if you looked at what the people gave i wonder how that would tally?
I once protested a minute in a Quaker meeting about simplicity that used the word: eschewing
(to begin a sentence with a conjunction right away!) . . . and corporate charitable giving is waaayyy down across the board -- very encouraging to see efforts of young people, individually and in groups, to help with all the needs in Haiti
i don't find those things mutually exclusive TO, that's all
that si4 you gave me will keep me occupied for hours, BabbleRabble. It is fascinating! And I am already learning new things, or unlearning bad habits.
but I think you are right there are lots of generous individuals and ngos
nor do i. just shake my head at the number of folks who expect govt to do everything or them.
which brings up the fact that I raised $1500 and 18 tents to ship to Haiti if it ever stops snowing long enough to do it
even the government is people
i hate to start preaching but, ya know, at least some of the problem has to to do with teaching and general awareness
*beams*
oh my, how will you get them there?
good job, jmc. May the snow abate
(not just what's on the news for a few weeks)
very cool, jmc!!
true, Une, and hi
hey, sprite :-)
morning all
Happy Valentines Day everyone!
we are shipping them to miami where there is a ship that will take them to the dominican republic where a U.N. official on his own time will pick them up to distribute in Haiti
hello periwinkle
hey, peri
TO, the people want the government to do everything are often the ones who protest taxes; the government has no money other than what they get from taxes.
*whew*
hi robbie, to you too
I am tired and achy from shoveling and banging on ice. and not looking forward to any more snow tomorrow
that is great.
that is wonderful jmc
help, pls with the E and I on bottom row
jmc, the Babble community salutes you!!!
*sends periwinkle a huge huge umbrella with a little sun in top
poor peri
there are things the government can do better and a coordinated foriegn policy and aid is one (or more) of them
jmcnrick, congratulations.
peri you have my sympathy!
thanks, I could sure use a massage :)
periwinkle, one is the volcano
et 4/4
and a long soak in a hot tub?
it was amazing to drive from the unsnowy north of NY to the completely under mountains of snow DC!
oh - i think some of the protesting is protesting johnny weir's wearing fur
that might work too, Une
good grief, had 110 words and just now saw the volcano! LOL
but fur is warm
sorry - earlier talk of protests at the olympics
I NEVER wear fur
peri, for the i, think of isolated bodies of land off shore
Periwinle, come to L.A. - we keep pur snow out of the driveway, and up on the mountain, where it belongs.
hello varina
me either peri but i don't live in canada
Une? What would be an example of bad grief?
good grief, I had 108 words and did not even see the volcano, ty Une
ur trim on skating costume drew protests at the worlds
lol christine but you don't keep your mud in the spa there!
bad grief would be grief you have to keep in and cannot share, nor find a release for?
What if it

I live in Hollywood, so we don't have mudslides, or flooding, or snow - we can get to it very easily, if so inclined.

Any good news on the citrus front, Aloyisius?
so, just in case I disappear... hope it will be ok, robbie
* What is a vampire's favorite fruit? * Neck-tarines.
"the citrus front", lol.. well, BR, all I can say is that the valencias are all picked, waaay too early.. and we haven't received a report yet (solids content and volume report).. but we are glad now that they were picked because the recent storms would have blown them all off the trees for certain
:) BR, that is cute
good one, BR! (-:
lol BR!
I love my orange juice!

VD does have several different meaning and some not so nice.
We have had 2 late nights and a long day yesterday, plus Alex stayed over last night...so I decided to let us stay home!

Jacula, are you still here? Your huge icon is causing Babble to stutter. Have had to adblock it.
(Adblock your icon, not Babble!)
sally...how do you do that?
I use Firefox. Right click on icon, select block image, select particular image.
This happened once before and it was someone's huge icon, so I remembered this time.
doesn't work with IE
is there a list out yet?
Sorry, should explain that this is an add-on called AdBlock for Firefox. Worth its weight in gold.
on FM's profile...but she's not online
Firefox is free to download.
one in gremlinn's profile too, look in rankings to find the name
i have firefox...just don't use it, so use to IE

Hello, jmbdobie ... yeah another one of those tedious trainer grids
br you are incourageable!
For those of us who own dogs, this ia a wonderful video link that my sister sent me. http://www.youtube.com/watch_popup ?v=fBYtCmJFrm4
can't get it to take the mans name, but takes the plural na5/10. Anyone else have that problem
It's not really a plural - just looks like one. This babblet comes up ofte!
I did intend to put an n on often!
Happy Valentine's Day to my fellow babblers.I have a list in my profile, but don't know the total score.Does anybody have a total score so I can put it in profile?
1200
Happy Valentines Day to you Min
sorry, wrong
Thank you rumplestiltskin. I'll update it in profile now
Oh, ok. I'll hold off on that until I get the right score.
that's just what i have now, 23 left
I don't feel like going through the list w/a calculator.
Heyas kids ..
Hi torgone!Do you have a total point score for today
I may never finish because I can't get the next to the last na4/4
Sorry Min .. I just started ..
more than one nan rumple
or grandma in most languages
TY rururocks. You saved the day.
Just went through list with calculator, score is 1681.
Off to go out to lunch. I'll be back later to do the grid

ty crossy
TY Crossy
TY Crossy
lowe
SORRY
that reminds me,i have to get a bottle of wine for tonight;0
what are you going to get crossy?
a nice chardonnay(sp)
the aussies are making good vino now
(spelled it correctly)
wow,tis a miracle
Leeuwin is a good one.
Kumeau RIver is a nother good one
i doing up nice trout in a beer batter with secret hobo spices in cold pressed olive oil, califoiwer with a 3 cheese sauce, baked taters with chives and bacon bits and a chocolate cheesecake for dessert
that sounds good
hi babblers - happy valentine's day - min, the total points for today: 1681
although Sauvignon Blanc would work better
ill check them out ruru,im not much of a wine guru
Think I am doing lamb loin chops with veggies and roasted potato
most of what i drink per usual can also run a dragster if needed;0
oh..uh oh
what do you want to spend on Chardonnay Crossy>?
giving me wine,is like giving a pig a strawberry hehe, but have to take care of the ladies today;0
bout 30 dollars
do the leeuwin.
kumeau river is more I think
sounds good, ill write that down now
we have a flagship lcbo here,so they carry pretty near everything
mm,i may forego the batter and go with a lemon pepper..will have to think on it\
my valentine's dinner sounds boring, but it's what the menfolk like - meat loaf and mashed potatoes! - I keep trying to make it more creative but they just want the old standby
nothing wrong with meat loaf and mashed potatoes
with that chocolate cheesecake for dessert, definitely not battered fish!
jbv..have you tried using stuffing instead of crackers for the meatloaf?
i was thinking that as well helen
sounds interesting - I use bread crumbs
(you shouls wear something sexy while serving meat loaf however)
lol
and theese fillets deserve better than batter im thinking
lol, yea, waer a lace teddy and then it all works
:D crossy..lol
well, thanks for the inspiration, you two - but this is a family dinner! :)
then you can serve boiled tree bark with sand and it wont matter hehe
ROFL
Good morning, everyone. Only in Babble will you see meatloaf being used with lingerie.
I'm thinking prok loin centre chops, marinaded in lime and ginger, with broccoli (steamed in butter) and perogies with yogurt and bacon bits
but if you havent doen so jbv,do try stuffing instead of crackers for the meatloaf
sounds delish helen
Just have to think about dessert - lemon cookies with ice cream, maybe.
Mmmm! Helen, make extra 'cause we're all coming to your house for dinner.
so do you prepare the stuffing first, then mold themeatloaf around it? then bake it?
if you do that helen, get the itallian style limone sherbert
no no,jbv.....
fresh mold is essential
take 2 pounds of ground beef, add 2 eggs, then add 1 pack of stove top stuffing, mix all together, place in deep bread pan, then brush with fav bbq sauce
350 for 45 min or so
lol BR
oh, ok, thanks!
it is as good as meatloaf gets jbv
when you see the meatloaf pull away from the pan just a bit,it is done
Hello, nelleon .... how you doing this VD?
Great! How's by you?
i promise you will not have leftovers hehe
I am having just a spiffy day .. thanks for asking
spiffy,gnarly,rad,tubular hehe
now the kids just swear at each other
went to get my boy from school early the other day,and while i was waiting i saw this girl heading to the office with her friend, she was tiny ethreal beauty, almosr elf like..then she opened her mouth and out came a stram of language that would make a sailor blush..was insane..an this to a teacher
Swearing in Twitter speak. Now that's funny. Fk u.
Luckily for me, vicarious eating has no caloric conseqences!
here nelleon, have a bacon weave sammich:))
Haha...and yum!
who says you cant get a full pound of bacon on a single sammich? hehe
Were you in the midst of the snow bonanza, nelleon?
Cross...it's said that excessive swearing exhibits a lack of creativity.

Happy Valentines Day to you Cherry

missing one of the na 4-5 combos, but have no idea -- any guesses?
not the grannies
gd evening everybody
have the grannies and the 2 that are not a combo
hi all
Then you need the Indian bread
*3 grannies and one na 5 that is not part of a combo
hootowl, did you get my photo?
en5 minus the e
plural
indian bread? what is the alpha numeric, please?
it has a double letter combo in the middle of it
na4,4 and pl
ty -- n's done
cool icon, Bugsaw
Thanks Boobear. I am proud of the athletes but wish we could have spent all that money on affordable housing instead. Mixed feelings here
yes I understand. Are they staying the Athlete's Village
a little money spent on padding the sidelines of the luge would have been a good idea too
I think the plan is to sell the units in athletes village, plus no-one can afford to live in Whistler
Wasn't that sad ruru? I was horrified by that.
horrible and all off the down hill stuff is very dangerous.. they know that going in
The money that the whole province spent on hosting the Olympics could have done more good for more people in more communities
we have a couple of wars going that I feel the same way about bugs
Why don't governments ever ask all the crepidarians on Babble what they should do, ruru?
absolutely
(now has to look up crepidarians)
I learned it from Babble Rabble. Love it
helllo
Hi TO
Hi TO
no lickety today?
no but fm has a list in her profile
missing an an 4-5 in that mess somewhere, but the monkeys aren't cooperating
as am i. have woman's name, celebes ox, feed the kitty, and against as 4/5 pairs.
womans name nan
was missing the looped handle o a vase (archaeology)
los of babblets today
aw, dad just gave me a little coconut cream heart! so now i can say i got a valentine!
2-toed sloth alert
good morning/afternoon/evening all
Morning jilli
hello jili. with which letter does this sloth begin?
hi bugs! did you enjoy the ceremonies?
it's un4/6, TO
I didn't see the whole thing jilli but parts of it were impressive. Nothing can top the opening of the Beijing Olympics tho!
ty. i am gathering some defs of common babblets today. it helps me to remember them
bugs, they weren't trying to compete with Beijing -- it was totally different and should have been seen all of one piece to get the full impact
It was my birthday jilli so my lovely husband took me out for a special dinner instead. I saw the beginning and the end where they lit the torches
I especially liked the huge welcoming totems that looked like they were carved from ice when the athletes were entering
I'm glad you enjoyed your birthday dinner, bugs. Maybe there's a replay available somewhere.
I also liked that 5 of our special athletes lit the torch not just one
I think you missed the whole thing, bugs!
a nice Canadian touch, I thot
sorry went to watch the ski jumping for a bit --- have all the same ones that you have TO
i am done.
YAY TO well done
what was the missing an 4-5 combo, TO?
Congrats!!!
ty, ty
was missing the archaeologial term or lopped handle of a vase
will have to google it,-- no idea
bugs, I went to YouTube to see if they had a replay but it had been removed "due to terms violation" or something.
I think there is a replay at CTV
CBC strikes again
try cnbc or msnbc
I am not worried that I missed them. I like the sports more.
ty or the kudos, going to woedrampage or a while. happy babbling.
shhh...heading out to get this real neat 4 foot olive tree for the mrs...poof!
YAY TO!!! And btw, for your babblet collection, the sloth is also spelt with an i as the last letter (that's eye, not ell)
bugs like the icon but what are the spring olympics?
i do know the i version and tried it
TO, here it feels like spring! You'll find a verse I wrote at the beginning of the chog ;)
They are suppposed to be the Winter Olympics Owl, but it is an El Nino year so we are having an especially mild winter. Daffodils and crocuses are in bloom and the only snow is on the course. They had to truck snow in from one of our National Parks in the middle of the province to make sure there would be snow on the jumping hill.
lol you can have my snow
They have tubes of dry ice under the snow too to keep it cold so it won't melt
Can't find anything for lopped vase handles
There's tons of snow at Whistler, though -- it's farther north
Nan I found it is the reverse dictionary
what do the handles begin with, nan?
*in start with an
obviously an, since that is what I'm looking for -- don't really understand, jill
I didn't know what you were looking for, nan -- do you want another kind of clue?
There is tons of snow here at Mt Washington too jilli.. We have had all kinds of team come here to train before the games began. It was almost a mini Whistler!
oh -- sorry -- I see - you didn't know what I was looking for -- an 4-5 combo
yes please, jill
I heard about that, bugs
an + feather b***
have that one bugs, ty
Hey, it took me awhile to see that Dr. G put in Valentine's theme for us today.
did i see snow alling last night?
an + South America and Latin pl?
not Latin plural, just the regular one
bingo --- ty ty ty, jill
yw, nan
Well, let's hope it's lo 4 and not just lu 4.
TO it can be confusing because they are having events in two different sites. Some are in Vancouver where there is mild weather and daffodils. The other is much farther north in a community called Whistler where there is plenty of snow.
lol, mudd
hoo boy, that un5/16 is a silly word
un 4,5,6,5,5,5,6 -- what am I missing please?
are there snow related events in vancouver?
missing a ut 4,5
Cypress mountain isn't that far out of town, TO
what is held there?
Vancouver is a beautiful city surrounded by mountains. People can take a bus to Cypress mountain to do some night skiing after work on normal years.
The moguls and hotdog stuff are held there. I think the jumping is too
The other events in Vancouver are on ice, indoors
Ski jumping is at Whistler
clue for du 6/24 plese.
*please*
no idea yet inge, sorry
morning ... du 6/24 - responsibilities
*!* ta da *!* - thanks for all the help :)
du6: obligations
plural of the du 4/8
*obligations to perform
Yay Nan!
thanks everyone for the clues
thanks , I had the singular. Duh
YAY nan!!!
off to watch more of the olympics -- back at the flip :)
* * fireworks * *
is an 8,40 a typo
YAY jilli!
yes, MrsC -- there are no 8-letter words here
yhanks
thanks
yw :)
MrsC -- the Lickety list you're looking at (I assume) is not the right one although it has the same number of words shown
Jilli, are you willing to go to Washington state in August, either the 21 or 28 to participate in a Babble west coast gathering. Stidmama would prefer the 21. I can drive you and flosey down if you want to come (and trust my driving.) Sharing would cut down the costs
there is a list here: http://www.playbabble.com/?id-51181
Yes, bugs --either date is ok as far as I know
I was sure you had heard about it but you and I have not been here at same time for a while.
Does flosey want to come too, do you know?
I had heard about it -- I've forgotten from whom! We should contact each other via email I think. I don't know about flosey -- it's quite possible.
Unfortunately right now I have to leave for a lunch date, and then for some library background work (cataloguing magazines and doing deletions)
Have a good day. We have sun here now. I hope you do to
so bye for now, all! Happy babbling!
Yes, the sun's out :)
hi all.....am missing an na5/10, I have the bread and the grand-parent......can someone help with the 3rd on please??
do you have the pl man's name?
I don't have that one either Flask
no....a clue plase?
thanks Pav
thanks Pav!
I don't think I have the bread?...is it edible bread?
Indian!
FLASK! *happy mama look* hello! hey everyone!
you mean the indian palindrome?
Hi Stid!!!
hiya stid? but how can this be ? you're in the grid ?
Indian bread!
LOL so I am! (I escaped)
so you are!
Hi stid!
Indian bread, Indian palindrome...my mind is racing too much to wrap around these clues...
hey bugs!
okay, indian bread starts like a word for granny then reverse the letters
a palindrome is a word that can be spelled the same way forward and backwords
and plural of course
I'm sorry, I thought there an even bigger secret to an Indian palindrome vs. and English palindrome
did anyone make a list?
thanks stid...got em both
go PAV!
45 left here
YES! there's an actual FISH in the grid! :-D
127 here, not going to finish today.
and pl too Stid!
Gremlin and I think Temple Owl posted lists
so there is! thanks PAV!
and if you take out the last vo5, you'll have another word..
how are you doing bugs? have you been following the olympics? (I am boycotting them -- the US network is cr** and I hate their coverage)
aha! PAV, you're an angel!
actually tu5.16 is also that fish as well. Morning all
can't be as bad as the bbc coverage Stid!!
its shocking!!
I watch some of the events stid. I used to ski so I like those but they haven't begun yet because of the poor conditions.
we can get US coverage. Can't you get Canadian stations?
hey lynxxx!
ty4 sound like fork prong

Happy Valentine's Day everyone!

*zipping mouth while sneaking a cookie for later*
they are doing well, I've had the front door open these two days while I babble and they like the fresh air and limited scenery from the front door
time for paper rewriting. *sigh* so glad the pups are doing well PAV. mine just got home from an unplanned "solo" around the cow pasture. LOL his way of protesting all my homework.
and now... adieu. see you-all soon! *poof*
bye Stid
yes, we are tst driving a new pee pad/receptacle to hopefully replace the paper diapers I've been buying all along..
hi, all. I have had a perfectly wonderful birthday. My husband gave me a teddy bear to add to my collection for Valentine's Day, and his birthday card was so special it made me cry. He took my Masters Degree and had it triple matted and framed for my birthday present. I am so blessed to have him.
congrats Angelsong. How lovely to have a romantic husband
and a Happy Birthday & Valentines Day to you Angel!
How very thoughtful. Congrats on having a lovely husband and on your birthday Angel!
Happy Valentines Day and Birthdays to everyone. I've got fireworks and it is snowing like blazes here. Going to take a nap. There goes the snowplow by now.

hi Inge. Yesterdays was bad bad.
afternoon everyone! I agree, inge!
I am using FMitch's list, but it is so complicated
Lickety has really spoiled us, I fear. It's just so much harder using a raw list.
how many words please?
166, Mudd
166 Mudd
Has anyone heard why Lickety's list has not been here? Is he ailing? On vacation?
or not using at all FV
oooo ... I'm missing one. ty
I'd almost rather use no list, PAV
I think there is an illness inthe family that's keeping him away...
That's too bad.
I haven't deciphered the fine art of listing either
can anyone help with the left column E words? I'm missing four and have no idea...

have 3 ea words and one el
I have ea x 3 and el x 1
el6.21 & 7.32 - 2 sets. el & a mixed up mothers sister

some men can pull it off... others def cannnot
I don't know...I've been particular to Pinot Grigio of late..

hi Mich
I had a similar hat when I was a youngster...I was given a pic of me sliding down a slide with the hat and a Mich State sweater on...the pic was given me five years AFTER i left MSU for the SW...never knew I had it
lYIKES Off to the PB for me (and I just got here)
i have been using the fireplace, has been fine, then a couple hours into a fire today, the thing starts sending all the smoke into the house
any clue to what happened?
LOL and hello Michnick!
the flue closed
(take it as a complement stid, he is an ass man ; )
Hi Stid (with a blush)
wind changed and blew the smoke back. air pressure change can do that too
di you close your damper?
all by itself? I double checked, but it still looks open
un's - 2 toed sloth/s, undergarments, not spoken, jelly b4 it goes hard, unbound
Hui all

Oh my. Must be th witching hour... nobody talking.
Hi Soodle
Oh Hi DR. Nice to know there are other humans around,,,, lol
yes- I am here peacefully finding words
and doing laundry
Oh yes, laundry. I remember that....
we had a nice breakfast by the ocean and went for a drive then came home, felt an earthquake and are relaxing
The earthquake was in Tecate Mexico which is about 70 miles from where we live
Ooooh DR!! I had completely other 'earth-moving' images!! lol.
ROFL
I thought that Valentines Day had made you and your nearest and dearest lose the run of yourselves!!!
TOo Funny! - Nope- our 11 yr old is around and they are working outside on a project
losing ourselves is for later
YaY, DR. You enjoy it when you get the chance. (kids have a knack of hampering stuff!!!)
I think its just you and me - everybody else is either lurking, or valentining....
yep- looks that way
Is the 11 yr old a boy or a girl?
boy- Jacob
he is tall, creative and has a great laugh
I have 3. Paul is 19, Sarah is 18 and Suzie will be 15 tomorrow. Aaaargh....the hormones, the hormones....
oh my! yes- we are just starting the hormones... you are raging in them
When my kids were small, I used always say, I wish they could stay this age for ever, but each stage brings such changes, and it is such a buzz to see them coming on, and becoming adults. Being a mother is just the very best thing in the world!!
I agree! He is really starting to learn and grow at school. I love being a Mom... even on hte hard days
brb
:)
weany is too a word
I taught it to my kids

FMitch has a list in her profile
du6.....responsibilities
du4.......obligation
I got them already but thanks. Why do you need a printer?

Do you use a list? Maybe I should learn how to copy and paste.

...and back to olympics here...back in a bit
hi all
howdy jmc
assumed i was alone
hi jmc
hi peri and crossy
there are 121 players on line
most do not chat
lol there are 121 players with their computers open
now i on the other hand will yak at you till you are looking for a sword to jump on lol
not yet crossy
but i will get my sword ready just in case
Hi all, I'm here and my computer was on but I was downstairs having dinner and doing dishes, but I'm back now\
wb mary
wb mary
i am sitting shivering in my living room
poor jmc
no heat?
valentine day,you should have someone there to help you generate some heat
*large melting eyes looking piteously*
crossy hands jmc a valentines rose and a hot water bottle;0
i have just turned on the gas fire and it takes a bit to heat
oh how sweet crossy!
do i need look out for elegant -- don't want to get on her wrong side! lol
lol jmc, here we turn the heat on in october and turn it off sometime around mid may
*puts rose in bud vase and curls up with hotwater bottle*
lol,no its ok,she knows she has my heart
well my radiators have been on but the gas fire i turn on from time to time
howdy babble buds! Happy VD!
longer you are married, the more you relax about that sort of thing hehe
howdy wordlover
hi adhd i swear I do not have VD
I never worried about it either crossy.
lol jmcnrick with the VD
once my husband and a friend and my then 2 year old son went with a group of quakers camping
i couldn't go and my husband suggested that instead of putting up too tents they share
when wife and i take a walk around the beach and my eyes waner over some sweet young 25 year old honey my wife says'darling you cant even catch that, you would drop in your tracks clutching your chest and she would make another notch on her lipstick case"
the quakers came backed and asked if my marriage was okay
and
I said if they could do anything with a 2 year old in the tent with them they were more clever than I!
lol
my husband and my friend and I laughed about that forever
true jmc
not to mention they were surrounded by other quakers in tents!
my "send words to clues" button isn't working :(
*hands crossy nitroglycerin* that will help
nice wife to let your eye wander; i bought my hubs a pr of dark lensed sunglasses
so it won't be so obvious lol
thre is no lickety today, that is why
oh
haha it tricked me
the same number of words is in the clues as in the puzzle
and apparently there are two words that overlap so far
i quit at 70 last nite. i can't finish those mongo grids on my own
i think Dr God was thoughtful to include lo** in the grid
he is a big sofite at heart
i remember some "cheater" site for anagramming that a bab player told me about. i remember her saying she'd use it for the last minutes before the flip
you are probably talking about morewords
that's dumb, what's the point?
another possibility is wineverygame
you learn new words rows
eh i suppose
i think i always forget the ridiculously random non-words that babble thinks are words though
i agree.... but there is a game my grandson likes to play on my itouch and i'll let him us it (so he'll leave me alone when I'm busy)
what's the point of getting clues? or using lickety?
the idea is to have fun
jmc, with clues and lickety i generally am able to still think of the words on my own
they're usually words i already know
lickety's IS fun... when you get stuck
clues from friends are sometimes necessary for words i've never heard of, but meh
good for you rows! :-)
last time i was here tho, i'd seen some really intense players... g otta finsh! gotta finish! who cares? test yourself and just have fun.
and i like to clue as much as I like to play really
i like it all most of the time
I just like to chat the game is secondary
i like to dance the night away
dance dance dance
ditto
yay dancing!
dirty dancing
what's the theme today anyway?
*runs laughing buck nekkid through the chog*
valentines day is the icon theme or something you are greatful for
there are several reasons why I don't get a grid finished: lots of chatting, not enough time, busy w/kids, or way too much time looking up definitions and logging them on my itouch
o
valentine
clue for the an7 anyone? druggy brain fog

Phantom words for today are aunt, studies & untidy.
Interesting that the last list Lickety posted had the same number of words as today's grid
distain was my phantom
I noticed that too jillibus.I even double-checked grid to make sure that it actually was not the same grid.
i noticed that too, Jilli, but couldn't find a G in the grid! lol
Now I have things to do, including getting supper and watching the Olympic skating -- I'll drop in here from time to time
check my icon for a new maxine.
bye jill
Goodbye jillibus!Enjoy the Olympics.I'm off to shower

Anyone need any clues for the grid?
hi jac
i missed seeing the speed skating. so i haven't watched any of the games
i need 49 clues and hello
not me red , I am in the office
26 left here
Hi jmc. I've got a smaller icon pic of my daughter as Marge Simpson now, so no slowing of Babble si4!
Hi red.
Hi Andree. How's the pup?
did she get married as marge simpson?
go andree!
No, jmc - it was just a pretendy for Valentine's Day fancy dress.
but it says her wedding day so that is why i asked
ou5.12, ou + Peter ***lers as the pink panther
No, it says 'as Marge & Homer on their wedding day'.
ooooh i misunderstood
now i get it!
LOL
Good thing I didn't put up the pic of their friends who went as Quasimodo & Esmerelda!
hey homer had more hair when they married -- it was a natural mistake
Jac, I donn't think Hugo is a happy dog , as we speak he is at the vet being desexed
but it wouldn't have been quasimodo and esmerelda's wedding day! lol
jmc - her b'f is a guy - he isn't going to make an outfit, is he? He's just going to go out and buy a mask. LOL
Andree - oops! You NASTY 'mummy', you! *grins*
donno my son makes his own outfits now for halloween
but your point is well taken-- probably no young homer heads
Andree - if he's anything like the only male dog my mother owned, he will groan theatrically and play on the pain thing for days. The females she had spayed, once over the anaesthetic, just got on with things.
i do feel bad about it, he is still such a baby
He should be just fine, Andree. Both my boyz did just fine after their surgeries.
I wish I could have filmed Mum's dog Leo after his op. He did sound so like a human male when he groaned.
Mind you, he had 3 cuts to his abdomen, since he had an undescended testicle to be found. Poor lad.
i know but i will feel a lot happier when i pick him up
from the vet and get him home
"leo-nate" a baby lion? hey all.
He'll be fine, Andree, but, like I said, being male, he will probably play on your sympathy for a few days.
hi stid
I hope HUgo feels well soon. Teuleu did not do very well after his surgery, but that was because the vet didnt tie something off properly.
hey andree, he'll be fine, I am sure. ((hugs)) hard to be "mama" to puppies sometimes.
well he has me exactly where he wants me, i have taken tomorrow off work to nurse him!!!
Hi Stid.
sucker
hi stiddie
LOL jmc!
hi stid
i think the hardest part of the neutering is the dumb collar. they look so pathetic with that on
Have to say that male genitalia doesn't respond well to surgical intervention. When my Other Half had surgery 'down there' (not being de-sexed, btw, it was a hernia op.) everything ballooned, went black and bruised and looked very painful. He was flat out on the sofa for about 2 weeks afterwards. However, having said that, do you know that it take's a woman's body at least 12 months to recover from the trauma of pregnancy and childbirth? But do we complain??
collars are not good, imho...
only 12 months?
jmc - at minimum.
I remember how worried you were about him, Jac.
had a c section
do we complain? you bet we do! and we remind them every day for the rest of their lives!!!! *wicked mama look*
lol stid
stid - I was. Incidentally, he was told the variocelee might return. It did and now he is in constant pain once more. No way he's going to have another op for it though.
oh no! oh poor him -- poor you!
poor thing
ouch
jmc - a caesarean takes longer to recover from. I was lucky enought not to have that with either my first child (breech) nor my second (normal presentation). I would have been given a c section, if I'd allowed it for my first but I wouldn't.
stid - he almost never complains about it and, so far, it has not affecting things, if you know what I mean.
my son was a month late, labor had been induced for a week and he turned out to be 12 lbs at birth
I should have had a c section for the first, but didn't. and no, it didn't work out okay... so many things would have been different, and probably easier.
oh jmc! post-dates are no good (that was our situation too)
12lbs?? Just as well yo had a c section, or you might never have walked normally again.
my ob freaked out when she saw him -- first words he heard in his life were:OMG!
My little b*gger (the breech) ever impatient, was born 3 weeks early and was only 6lb 1oz.
LOL jmc! poor kiddo.
the good part: he was so large he slept through the night almost immediately
His sister, normal presentation, 3 days late, was 8lb 4oz.
And she was easier to give birth to.
this is making me worried about my kids all over again. must be tired. see you-all later after I have recomposed myself. *mini poof*
sorry stiddie
its a wonder you fronted up for a second time after a 12 pounder
'Bye for now, Stid.
i tried for a second without success andree and then hubby died
Ah, well., Andree - perhaps it's like 'they' try to tell you; you forget about the pain. Do you? I didn't! But I wanted another child.
i forgot the pain but i remember remembering the pain
jmc - so sorry to hear about your loss.x
i am sorry jmc, mixed you up with jac
long time ago jac but thankyou
np andree
Time heals jmc, but scabs can get ripped off and scars reopened when we least expect it, so I am still sorry for reminding you.
no no we had a wonderful life together (except for the brain tumors and deafness) and we always knew it would be short -- i vastly prefer to remember
Anyway, now I have 3 children, though one is not my own. She's Other Half's only child. She's away for 10 days over half term and the peace without a teenager in the house is lovely.
although not known as a particularly huggy sort of gal, here i am, with open arms for all :)
Hi welki - me, too. But there are times...
*looks askance at welki*
HUGS ALL AROUND!!!
askance? you're not huggy either, toots
as you know! lol
i commisserate with jac .. i was the evil step mom for years, probably still am
My ex has remarried, has 2 stepdaughters. The youngest (who was adopted by her before he met his new wife) is fine, but his wife's real daughter is the nightmare from hell. Apparently. I only know what my kids tell me.
hey jm .. you must have just left when i asked you a question this afternoon .... when you met wht at meeting, did you already know who he is? (other than from his photo here) had you already met at one of these functions?
Hello all!I am back to hopefully finish this suckersoon!
*****hugs for welki (and choclit)*****
Hi Min. Good luck with the grid.
toots? askance? *arms akimbo* what's up, ladies???
i was at a meeting with wht and he started looking over my shoulder, then he started giving me words, and the next thing i knew I had SUCKED HIM INTO BABBLELAND!!!!'
'
bwahhahahahahahahahahahah
rofl jmc! stealth addiction! the best kind!
we had fun at the meeting and he would slip me words this week
stid - did you ever finish your long storytime and turn it into a no5/16 and get it published?
we tried to get someone else from the group on too
ahhh, so you knew him before he joined us :)
no jac. no time for that these days. ask me in ten or twenty years.
stid - know the feeling! And I WILL ask.
Any clues needed?
down to 40... going to rip up the term paper with red ink and scissors and back later. maybe. the more I do on this tonight, the more I can avoid doing tomorrow!!!!
go stiddie go
*mini poof*
I bet you all found the bare naked people words first!
me? well not first
People always find the 'rude' words first, even if they profess not to like them.
wove n
I found "love" first.
oops sorry typo

Aw, gremlinn - that must be because it was Valentine's Day. Now off to the PB with you!
A small sacrifice to pay!

you'd better eat that chocolate ... or el**!
el 4/4: You better finish this grid or el**... jmcnrick.
My hands and feet are absolutely freezing cold now. Should I sneak into bed and inflict them on, ahem, I mean cuddle my Beloved, or should I stick to my own side of the bed with a hot water bottle and bedsocks and let him snore in peace? Cast your votes now.
I excuse gremlinn from the penalty box since he was so nice enough to post a list today in his profile. :=)
Put the hot water bottle in the bedsocks and put them in Beloved's mouth.
gremlin - eh?
oh i still feel sorry for the guys for the surgery so i vote for the hotwater bottle
I am immune from the PB! (Kidding, Jacula)
Oh, to stop him snoring, you mean? LOL
maybe just the bedsocks
i vote cuddle
and then you can put your socked feet onto his warm back
i am sure he deserves a good cuddle
3 left all a's must finish so i can phone and find out how Hugo's surgery went
go andree go
Sudoku - he won't want a cuddle when I'm freezing cold. He'll cuddle me, make me warmish, get up and go to work and then creep up on me sometime in the next week when I'm warm and sleeping anf wrap his freezing cold bod around mine.
Go Andree go!
'Revenge is mine!' sayeth we both. LOL
lol
go andree
yes you have to watch out for pay backs
Incidentally, he's not been short of 'cuddles' this Valentine's Day, since we had the house to ourselves. I'm just talking pinching bodyheat in order to sleep now. LOL
It's a matter or survival.
lol yes maybe warm up a little first then he wont be quite as shocked

Andree - maybe Min has downloaded a list but is still working on it herself?
aaah
Always give credit to those I get list from; see profile

ou 5/12: I like to ride the car***** at the park Andree
I only put a list in my profile when I've actually finished the grid and I use and edit my own word list to make it. I've encountered too many other lists with mistakes in before. However, if you have a list you trust, like Min did, there's nothing wrong with posting it to help others.
Happy Valentine's Day, all!

did they leave them in MT?
lol, jmc.
Nobody likes the idea of dogs being interbred for fashion or dog showing purposes. But sometimes, mixed breeds DO work well and if someone chooses on of those breeds to suit their family's needs, that's fine. Dogs have being doing for themselves since dogs existed - that's how the tough non-reognised by the KC breed called 'mongrel' or 'Heinz 57'(taken from the ad for Heinz Baked Beans - 57 varieties) cam about.
muts do very well
back to work for me, thanks for the chat and the clues
bye andree
Bye, Andree
Mutts tend to be the stronger ones.
Goodbye Andree! I will see you tomorrow in the chog!

Some breeds should not happen, of course, If they lead to body/brain faults or aggression. But there's no harm in some deliberate imnterbreeds. I KNOW the world has far too many dogs, cats and many other animals in shelters, either waiting to be put down or to find an owner, but that's life.

I'm not a bit bad. I know my animals but I try not to get too sentimental if needs must.
go Min!
jmc - LOL, I won't. But why are you terrible with rabbits? They are the easiest to put in a trance.
my son was given a rabbit that terrorized us -- it would attack us

Hi, Gwen!
hi babblers
Hello gort
wtg book and hi
hi gort

Hi gortmold! How are you doing? Welcome to the grid
hi nef, gort, and all
hey min, jel, jmc, gwen, assorted babblers
*looks in cabinet* wine, brandy,. . . ..
clue for the la5/16 and st5/10 and slurp of cointreau please?
I went to church after getting NBT this AM, then went to breakfast and shopping, then a neighborhood celebration; and just finished installing a toilet! I have 131 words left to go but (for some odd reason) not much steam left
An la 5/16 is le 4/7 with an extra vowel in it gortmold
wow what a day nef!
That st 5/10 word is s plus the te 4/4 word gortmold.
toilet installation, oh that does not sound like fun
thanks for the st, min, now i'm just working on the le4
*pours a cointreau for gort*
gort downs gratefully, slams mug on jmc's countertop and demands another

I was so so happy because i was supposed to drive 4 hours to pick up tents and got a call at the last minute that a friend coincidentally when to that meeting and that he could bring the tents back to town with him
are you a bit thirsty, gort? I didn't know anyone could drink cointreau fast
I am done! I have fireworks! el7/32 was my last word
Want to cut a bunny's nails? First find a large bath towel and keep it handy, then catch your bunny. When bunny is caught, try to ignore the bleeding scratches it's flailing feet have made upon your arms - legs, too, if you were foolish enough to have worn shorts for this, your first encounter with a bunny that does not know you. Gently turn bunny onto its back on the bathtowel you have put onto your lap when you sat on the floor after having caught the bun in question. Time to calm down... both you and the rabbit. Wrap the bunny in the bath towel if it's a bunnyyou've only just met, only leaving it's head sticking out and making sure the hind (kicking) feet are firmly wrapped. Insert your fingers in the towel into the place where the bunny's chest begins and begin to stroke gently and croon, slowly opening the towel has you move down with the stroking to the bunny's abdomen. If you get it right, and you can do it in seconds without a towel with a bunny that already knows and trusts you, you'll have a limp bunny on your lap that will let you do anything you like. In fact, after you've done the nail-cutting, ear checking, bum-cleaning etc., you'll have to turf the bunny offf your lap to wake it up again. I only wish the same applied to guinea pigs. We have 4 of those but no rabbits now.
whooo hooo min!
Yay, Min!!!
lol nef, i'm all talk when it comes to alcohol, but i do really like cointreau
YAY, Min! WTG!!!

And you could check either your Friends' list or the stats

You all are very smart...I haven't been at this long but have yet to complete one
how may I help?, Pini..
welcome to babble, barb ;)
Thanks really gets my brain going
we are sad people, barb... with too much time on our hands most days! LOL would you like assistance?
Barb- there are many days some don't finish and days when we all finish...
you, too, will be assimilated; resistance is futile * wicked giggle *
something to look forward to for sure
LOL pini!!! *gets another plug-in ready for the new recruits*
Giving it up with 27 left...
I don't usually finish any more actually, but today I felt I deserved some down time.

Hi Miss Jilli! I simply love that icon photo...will try to fin my own geese pics, they might be ducks though ...from our lake...
sweet dreams Jellen, please give tim a nice sisterly hug from me!
oh crud, almost missed the volcano!
yes, barb, if you see and icon it means the person coughed up the big $15 to go pro and keep the stats etc.
and there is more than one, pini!
*grin* I was pleased to find that one today withOUT help today!
yep! :)
Barb, if we have pictures (icons) and flags, we bought the game for life. Whether we are "pros" or not is debatable at times

I'll second that one, Nef!
yes
that's right, barb!

yep, barb, and worth it

and the friendships you make are priceless, well worth the pro fee
stats and fireworks and friends

take care and hurry back, barb!
HEY! you popped my pillow! *tosses pini pillow shards at pini*
