Yes. And will take me much longer than you, ruru.
this one isn't too bad JC..you'll be fine
Oh hi flosey.
MLFAN - sorry, just came back to the game. Annie Laurie was the heroine of a tale of the feud betweens the clans MacDonald and Campbell. Can't remember the author.
hi Faux
half way -- it is going fast
did she fight under the golden arches?
I believe that
o.
I believe that's so.
ok.. I am off to bed.. give jilli my best if she shows up after bridge
that was a bad joke on my part Christine..lol
My mother's maiden name was McDonald. Her side of the family are Irish McDonalds, though.
pimp
And 'Mc' not 'Mac'.
oh, sorry about that.
who you callin a pimp?
I've got Campbells and MacDonalds in my family tree. :P
*puts on Fedora*
Thank you for that, Christine. Never mind being called one if it's in the grid. :P
then faux you should be set with soup and fries
J.C. I'm pretty sure it's Mac D
:P
Well. If MacDonalds and McDonalds are related somewhere back far enough, we could be very distantly related, Laura. ;)
hi and nbt
pretty conservative costume there JC
Hmmm, Christine? You're pretty sure what is? My mum's maiden name isn't, no - hers is 'Mc' not 'Mac' and they're from Ireland.
Sorry, JC - misread your post.
Yes, ruru. Trying to tone it down - you don't want to see the outrageous ones. :P
*rolls eyes*
No, JC, I thought you were calling me on the spelling of Clan MacDonald.
Oh you don't know the half, ruru...
Ah. No, Christine...
da
ok good night all you lovely people.. have a great game..
The Scottish ones would probably be predominantly 'Mac' as opposed to 'Mc'.
da what aloy?
da?
(she is singing along with Sting)
It's morning here - but good night to you, ruru.
do da da ..
Ah.
Yes. Such profound lyrics...
that boy sure could write ... huh?
And a challenge to memorise. :P
Erm...sure. ;)
*poof*
wow JC your outfit outshines any peacock
Why thank you, flosey.
it's gorgeous
Anna ( Annie) Laurie was the daughter of the baronet of Maxwelton. This rural mansion house was built by her family on a hill rise dominating the River Cairn (one of Maxwelton Braes), Dumfriesshire. Maxwelton House still stands there today as a family home only a couple of miles from the idyllic village of Moniaive. It is really quite strange that such a quiet and out of the way place as this should have inspired the composition of such a well known and evocative Scottish Song. Annie Meets William Douglas of Fingland the Dashing Young Blade William Douglas owned a small upland estate at Fingland. All that remains there now is a sheep farm and some stones from the now ruinous Douglas tower. Douglas was a dangerous man to know. He was a dashing young soldier of undoubted bravery but he was also a rebellious Jacobite. He was known for his fiery temper and was a noted swordsman and duelist. It is thought by some that Anna and Douglas met and fell in love near her home on Maxwelton Braes. The Romance Leads to a Love Poem That Later Becomes a Famous Scots Song No matter where they met a romance is said to have blossomed between the two. Somes sources think that Anna was not in love with Douglas and that his was an unrequited love rhyme. Some say they never even met but that seems highly unlikely. Douglas wrote his love poem about Anna and she is known to have written of him in later years. The words to the two verse Douglas poem were probably written at Fingland at the beginning of the 18th century. The Romance Fails But the Rhyme Endures and Evolves The romance between the two youngsters did not last. Anna's father was probably not in favour of her consorting with a a Jacobite rebel. Some sources say that Douglas and Anna's Father even fought it out in a duel over the matter but there is no proof of this happening. Whatever the cause of the failure in the romance it is true that neither of them kept their promise true. What is even stranger is that Anna was first to break the alleged romantic pact between her and Douglas. The Two Lovers Do Not Keep Their Promise True Anna married Fergusson of Craigdarroch another Glencairn landowner and broke her promise true to Douglas. If she ever made it that is? Douglas later married an heiress and slipped quietly into obscurity. It was the sister in law of the Duke of Buccleuch who finally made the poem into the song we all know today. Alicia Spottiswoode came frome the ranks of Scotland's landed aristocracy. She had a great love of Scotland and loved her native Lammermuir hills dearly. Lady John Scott Edits and Writes the Song We Know Today Alicia married the brother of the Duke of Buccleuch and spent time at English court of Queen Victoria and Prince Albert. Her heart was always in Scotland though and she penned several Jacobite ballads and evocative songs. She is most famous today for her version of Annie Laurie. She modified the original two verse poem and added a further verse and a tune. That is the famous song that is still sung today from Moniaive to Memphis and from Chicago to Hong Kong.
Thank you...
Mazwelton Braies are Bonnie
Hello -- I'm late :)
Maxwelton Braes are Bonnie They're a' clad ower wi' dew Where I and Annie Laurie Made up the promise true Made up the promise true That ne'er forgot will I And for bonny Annie Laurie I'd lay down my head and Maxwelton Braes are bonnie Where early fa's the dew And 'twas there that Annie Laurie Gave me her promise true Gave me her promise true Which ne,er forgot will be And for bonnie Annie Laurie I,d lay me doon and dee
hi jilli
evening jillibus
*probably more than you wanted to know!
Hello, Jill...
Hi Jill.
I agree with flosey, JC -- that is a gorgeous outfit.
hello everyone
hi west
what a nice story nan thanks for posting it
hi west
now of course I'll be singing that song
hi flosey and jilli
Thank you, Jill - will have to show them all to you sometime. Hello, westford...
hi JC very nice costume
must have set you back a pretty penny
Wesatford, it's gonna be a group singalong.
ooh good I love singalongs.
Thank you, westford...
the workmanship is exquisite
Set me back? No. Of course not - didn't pay for it.
It was provided, a panto costume.
oh thought you did..guess you wouldn't have anywhere else to wear it though
I can't even imagine the hours that went into making that
No, quite. And when you're hired for a production, costuming is supplied.
I have worn others just as elaborate.
I wish we had pantos here.
jilli, what a beautiful peacock
Yes - rare to see a white one.
very beautiful jilli and yours too flosey
thanks west
I pi4/7 the poor peahen imagine having to live up to that
Hi everyone. Just logged on and read the chat. My late husband was Scottish and we live there for 8 years. He had an aunt Annie who married John Laurie so she became Annie Laurie. Get 2 Scotsmen and 2 glasses of Scotch and they will likely break into Annie Laurie.
I thought a white one would be different
Break into singing I meant.
sure is jilli, have never heard of a white one
hi jhb what a sweet story
Hello, Judith
hi jhb, quite a story
Hi Christine, hi westford.
Ah yes, jhb - and hello. :)
And hello to everybody.
isn't there some estate or other which has nothing but white peacocks?
hi jhb
I must say you are all excelling yourselves with your lovely icons.
pretty little church, Christine
I'm a human peacock. :P
did they play Annie Laurie at your daughter's wedding Christine?
or at least sing it afterwards?
No Westford and they didn't play it or sing it at my son's wedding and he was born in Glasgow.
Oh sorry Christine. I jumped in and answered for you.
that's a sister thing j lol
They didn't play or sing the song. Son-in-law found the church on a ramble arounf Forest Lawn, and asked Vanessa how she felt about being married there.
nbt
wtg jilli
wtg jilli
that y was a hoot
Well just called in for a chat. Off to raid the larder for dinner. Bye
Come back soon y'hear, as we say in the South.
nice to see you j hurry back
Christine how romantic of him
at least it's a plural, west, so we can still give a cheer?
I'm not sure it's part of the word
but I won't tell if you won't
In my young and silly days, I was married to a Southerner.
they can be very romantic too yes ma'am
But he was drop dead gorgeous wasn't he?
My Jack-that-was? Yep, he was pretty okay. However, you're the one that got the GOOD guy.
Actually, he
Yeah - didn't I just. they dont make many like my one.
actually, he's a good guy, better than many I've known.
Although he son is shaping up quite well now.
I mean, that I know (of).
Judith has a gorgeous son, and a beautiful daughter -- and you should see the grandsons. If there's an icon for handsome grandnephews, I could post a picture.
No, I wouldn't do that -- too invasive of their privacy.
post it anyway nothing like a handsome young man to make an old woman happy
oh all right I'm set anyway lol
is that the son who was married in Glasgow?
Well west - When I went to lunch today, I noticed an old lady sitting on a park bench sobbing her eyes out. I stopped and asked her what was wrong. She said, ‘I have a 22 year old husband at home. He makes love to me every morning and then gets up and makes me pancakes, sausage, fresh fruit and freshly ground coffee.’ I said, ‘Well, then why are you crying?’ She said, ‘He makes me homemade soup for lunch and my favorite brownies and then makes love to me for half the afternoon. I said, ‘Well, why are you crying?’ She said, ‘For dinner he makes me a gourmet meal with wine and my favorite dessert and then makes love to me until 2:00 a.m.’ I said, ‘Well, why in the world would you be crying?’ She said, ‘I can’t remember where I live!’
ROFL
No westford - my son was born in Glasgow and married in Nelson, New Zealand
that's too funny and sad
oh hahahaha!
oh that's right would have been a bit far to go
A bit risque - I'll shut up now.
if that ever happens to me I'll write my address down
don't worry about risque around here!
I already have.
ruru would have loved that one
lol j you're a kick
back to the wedding ( I love weddings) were there kilts and bagpipes?
Risque? How shocking - must cover my eyes.
Not at my children's weddings in fact my son specifically banned them
quite, JC ;)
aww too bad
Although westford we do still have my son's kilt from when he was 6.
I've tolld my daughter I want a piper (or a recording) at my feneral.
Going somewhere sis?
Food grief *funeral.
Not until I'm old.
what's with Food grief?
GFood grief -- another typo.
Bloody fremlins are having a field day, over here
thought food grief meant you were hungry Christine
peacock photo and story uploaded :)
I was at my grandsons' school today. It's called Scots College and they have a Grandparents' day each year. The Headmaster was piped in. You would have loved it Christine.
are fremlins anything like gremlins?
friendly gremlins
Not hungry, had a delicious cheeseburger & fries for dinner.
ah
we had Chinese
What happed to the diet? Carry on this way and I will have to call you Big Sister.
Am I the only one old enough to remember the fremlins in the old Playboy magazine.
Who bought you Playboy?
those cute little girls?
There's no diet, I just gave up sugar and candiy and desserts.
I'm older, but far too pure to look at Playboy :-]
OK so cheeseburgers and fries are OK. I'm going on that diet.
Yessss Westford - they sat in champagne saucers, remember.
Why would women be looking at Playboy?
Well. Bertha might...
jhb -- they're ok if you only eat half of them.
I do and there were some good articles
Great question JC
Censorship, JC, and envy maybe.
And jillibus if you have your eyes closed and your fingers crossed?
I was almost afraid to mention Playboy, Jilllibus, being aware of your sensibilities - not wanting to shock you.
and of course, the articles.
airbrushed and silicone no thanks
You are joking I gather, Christine? :P
you and jhb are so considerate.
If I don't shock Jill and offend her sensibilities, no one can or will. ;)
Lady Jillibus must be protected
And so far, I don't seem to have...
ROFL!
By our age, I doubt there's much that we've not seen, or heard of.
Quite.
boohoo!!! -- spent 20 minutes hunting down and making icon from my photo of a Scottish peacock and nobody noticed the post!! ;-)
oh no nan I'm still seeing your regular one
It still has your previous icon in the chog, cybernan.
That's probably why...
just click for my profile -- will show previous one until you refresh
I can see it if I click he's gorgeous
Now that I've refreshed the page, I see it.
Beautiful peacock.
He was a saucy one too!
gorgeous, nan! (I have to go out and back in)
I said I really enjoyed your post but you must have been peacock hunting
--came right up to our table and posed while I took the photo
ah there it is I refreshed
lovely, nan!
what do they do at night?
didn't have to do any hunting west.
is there a peacock wrangler who pens them up?
oh I guess not since it was your picture
oh you mean the annie laurie post! - ty
yes been singing the song every since
no there are just a lot of them roaming the grounds at Scone
Christine's sister jhb said her husband's aunt was Annie and married John Laurie
is Scone the place Scottish kings were crowned?
can anyone help with od6/24
I knew I'd heard of a place with white peacocks -- "Overlooking the wooded banks of the Rouge River, the Sun Porch was the ideal place to indulge Henry and Clara Ford's passion for bird watching. Here nature came indoors. With telescopes the Fords could focus on some of the 500 birdhouses scattered around the grounds or perhaps on one of the estate's 30 white peacocks as they strutted among the indigo irises or hollyhocks blooming in Clara Ford's Blue Garden . "
the most not normal
lovely story jilli
yes -- the Stone of Destiny sat under the British Throne until recently when it was repatriated and now sits in the Scottish Parliament Building.
doh....how could I miss that LOL
or opposite of even
15 left to find!
thanks west, for od6
thanks jilli and nan..always learn so many great things here
yvw flosey
glad to hear the stone is back where it belongs
getting too late for me to concentrate -- 20 left for tomorrow :)
beautiful peacock, nan
gj so far nan
a neighbour has peacocks, they are great watchdogs
I agree, west, re the Stone of Scone.
we declined their kind offer of a pair!
oh I imagine they are flosey..does your cat visit them?
I have a photo of me sitting on the stone that has been placed where the original stood. It sits on a little hill outside of the church at Scone. The hill was built up over the years by tradition. When the lairds came to pledge their allegience to the Scottish King, they would carry a bootful of earth from their own lands and dump it before him as he sat one the Stone of Destiny. Over the years it became a mound of about 4 feet in height.
I just passed halfway
cat never leaves our property west, they're down the road a bit
Well, 43 left and it's bedtime so goodnight all and *poof*
goodnight jilli
Sleep well, Jillibus.
that's amazing nan lots of loyal scots
good night jilli if you have trouble going to sleep just sing
Annie Laurie
just before I go -- flosey, I had a Yarborough tonight that beats all -- one 8, three 7s, and a 5.
ah yes, hubby had it
Yuk! *repoof*
seldom see such a total yarborough
yuk the yarborough or Annie Laurie? lol
the yarborough, lol!
I went looking for a carafe for our coffee pot..just barely dinged it and got a nice spider crack in the bottom
it'll be over $30 to replace it might have to get a Mr. Coffee
yes, it's crazy, you can almost replace the whole thing
I made coffee tonight using my 4 cup glass measuring cup and had to keep a knife pressed on the little gizmo at the top where the coffee pot normally presses
and you should have seen me trying to find the model number on the bottom.white on white !!
they don't make things easy!
I know. We have a 30 cup party perk but we left that up in Maine
once, when the power was off, I made coffee in a saucepan and strained it
that's an idea
it was good!
did you pour boiling water over it?
no, think I added the coffee to boiling water and let it sit a bit
I'll try that
didn't take very long
7 words left to find....all d words
lot of d's
I have 8, 5 are d words
I have 8 of those left
3 4's...1 5...1 6...2 7's
do you have the 7 that's a compound word?
aha, just monkeyed di5
Yes I do
yes, thanks west
I was very proud of that one lol
yes, me too
think I'd better get to bed, I'll find the last 7 tomorrow
goodnight all
good night flosey I'll let you know how the coffee turns out
yes, please do
I know if I try often, I'll get diadem onto my list.
it just doesn't want to work Christine
I must've tried four times - can't seem to remember that I tried it long ago.
it will be interesting to see how we do with a rotating grid
I can't even imagine wat that means.
we had one in tangleword it just switches the letters around
there was a button each individual could press
Whoa, you mean the letters in this grid will rearrange themselves?
that's what I hear..if it ever happens
sort of like shaking the letters in real boggle
hope we have control of it though would be very disconcerting if they changed all of a sudden
So, you could leave the grid, needing say 8 words, come back and need 25 words?Would it change at a set time each night?
I have no idea hope not
Or would each person change her own grid? That would make clue-ing very difficult.
that would
I say, if it ain't broke, why fix it?
did you ever play tangleword?
you're right !!
It couldn't possibly mean that all the letters change. Surely it's just a case of the board rotating on an axis so that, for instance, with one turn the i on the bottom left of this grid would appear top left.
In that way, the order of the letters would remain exactly the same, all you would be getting would be a change of perspective.
hi haz I think that's what happened
but it was an individual preference
No. Never heard of it. This is the only game I play. If it rotated the bottom row to be the right column, wouldn't the placement of the letters remain the same?
I can see it now. On 3 everyone rotate
Oh, Haz, you posted while I typed.
And I think it would be individual preference here as well. Hello to you both.
tangleword was very similar but we had 2 minutes to find as many words as we could
I like this game much more
My understanding is that it would be a way for individuals to get a new perspective on the board, not that the board itself would change in reality.
I'm hearing everything second hand do you know when the great unveiling will happen haz?
No, I'm not aware of any date having been set. I'm not on facebook so haven't been privy to the latest news from Dr-G which was posted a week or two ago. We wait on.
I was on FB but was so tired of it all
Morning all how many words today please
113, sandra.
113
good morning sandra
haz we had a lovely discussion about Annie Laurie
Earlier on this morning/evening?
around 1 a.m.
cybernan posted a tome lol
I've always loved the song but didn't know any of the history
I don't know that I know much except that it's a song.
had something to do with Campbells and MacDonalds and there was a Douglas thrown in
30 left and there's the wall..going to get the list bye for now
I've just looked up some references. Where you see 'legend' and 'people claim' you know that nobody probably really knows the truth!
See you later, westford.
so true but it's what love stories are made of
bye haz
good morning/evening everyone, hope you are all well
hello :) just popped in with news :)
good morning everybody; How cold is it in the UK?
news?
cold, grey and wet here in Manchester. Toastie warm with a nice cup of tea here in my living room.
a) was offered a wonderful job the other day working at Kent Wildlife Trust as a marine conservation person, part time, and b) having my knee op today!
that is big news, ata! I hope the op goes swimmingly well!
Congrats Atalante, good luck wishes to you. xx
and the job sounds perfect!
it's absolutely perfect!
to5/18 sounds perfect for this weather (not for you ata)
could do with one for medicinal reasons..had a bad fall yesterday, Im quite badly bruised and sore
falling is terrible, donna, and more of the bad ones happen in the house!
I think a hot to5/18 is in order for your sore and bruised body!
I was in the city centre with my daughter and my foot just seemed to give from beneath me. hurt elbow, knees and chest..A good reason to take it easy today
fastest nbt, ever!
but not half
Hello again - good morning/evening all.
Just read back - good news, Ata!
hi haz!
hi haz
Hello! And donna, hope you feel better soon.
Ata, are you at the clinic or when do you go in?
Thank you Haz x
at midday
nicel
y
So, no breakfast?
hi daykat
I had some toast a bit earlier, was ok up to 8am
nice mi6, ata, but you get a pb pass today!!
gosh, and I haven't even looked at the grid!
hahah
you must be psychic!
just brilliant :P
we knew that!
reminders are always good :)
I know, smugness has been missing from your direction for a while.
thanks fro to*** Ruby x
I owe yu a lot, ata, for imparting some of your wisdom (and websites!)
Wisdom? Ata?
and that is Dr. Ruby's scrip, donna!
of course wisdom!
I'll get adjusted to the idea of Ata being wise in a while, it just takes a bit of getting used to.
So, how are you going to solve the problems in France, Ata? The natives are revolting.
is a do4/5 a cross between an amorous go** and a deer?
the french are always revolting. let them get on with it
it would be a joke, if it wasn't always the case. Fortunately, we have plenty of gas in the cars and don't have to go anyplace far
So they're not marching up and down the village burning tyres and shouting rude things?
they always shout rude things
and our little school is even open although the bigger ones in Annecy are not
Are the schools closed because teachers are refusing to work?
yes, they are part of the CGT, I think, and they've organized high school students to man the barricades in Paris. Disgusting! (revolting hahah)
pi6/27 sounds like an angry drunk
They're just keeping up tradition, ruby.
but these children will not be educated
They'll catch up. Their parents and their grandparents managed and so will they.
they'll learn what it is to be french
unfortunately
They just believe in direct action - or inaction. None of your shillyshallying.
this big union needs to be broken, like Thatcher and Reagan both acted on their out-of-control unions
as an ex-teacher, I think teachers' strikes are poison
the people here are so nice UNTIL they get behind the barricades, but that is just in big cities
nice grid and see you later! good luck with your op, ata. And enjoy your to***s, donna
Bye, ruby.
*poof*
bye haz
bye ruby!
how is La Spanglettinella today?
She's fine - it's wet outside but I see blue sky beginning to break through so she will get her morning walk after all.
that will please her
Yes, nothing beats being outside, not even barking at the cats through the window.
though that is fairly good, if outside isn't an option
LoriP made an appearance the other day (I wasn't here). FM got so excited she told her that I was going to be Mother of the Bridge next year.
oh nooooo! LMAO!!
Poor FM.
that's hilarious, even for her
I know, it's definitely worthy of remembering.
When would your new job begin, Ata?
absolutely!! and on that note, I should go and find a bag to fill with books and things to keep me amused this afternoon ... I'll email you later when I'm back from hospital!
Yes, let me know how you get on. All the best!
will do! love to fm if she appears and will email her too, obviously!
She'll shoot you if you don't! Will Hobbit keep vigil outside the theatre?
Tiptoes out...
Take care , Haz
morning....
Hello, Carlee.

Good morning all.
I was lurking the other day (did not feel like chatting) it was nice to hear you say you were enjoying a nice glass of wine.
hi there sally
Hello, Sally :-)
thanks zooz...its been a long time coming to get there :)
time is a good healer...even if it does take its time..lol
true enough :)...so u are folding at home?
i used to on my old computer, but i am not on thi laptop.
this*
oh...i saw ur name on the babble list is all....
yes i am still a member, i will start again at some point in the future.
i just started on 2 laptops here and i still need to get my hands on my daughter's laptop to get it on there
it is for a good cause, nice to see so many babblers giving it ago.
nbt in 21 words :)
Good going, carlee, i have 61 words & no NBT yet..lol
thanks....my new little way to approach the game to get to know the grid sooner....find a word from each letter :)
That is actually quite a helpful technique, I find, to concentrate on one letter at a time instead of just randomly putting in words where I see them.
yes i very often do that, just finding it difficult to find a word from the top `E`..lol
oh gotit..lol
Oh I have those.
just thought of the one that is like a name..lol
Just change the last letter for the second one.
Many thanks, Sally, now have both :-)
:-)
i should really have remembered that one, as it has been in a lot of grids..lol
Yes, I got that one first, then saw the other.
Hi Sally & Zooz
Hello, Lynxxx :-)
Hi lynxxx
hi lynxxx
hi Carlee too!
Are you starting to get warm spring days Lynxxx?
We are certainly getting chilly nights now..lol
here too zooz
Temperature here went down to 1.7 deg C a couple of nights ago :-(
Just a few odd ones so far and now half way thru Spring! Gardens are very green though, lots of rain
(That's outside temp, not indoors!)
I must confess, i am not a cold tolerant person.
nor am i zooz...
Is I of W warmer than the mainland Zooz?
I don't mind the cold, just don't like it icy.
It is to a certain extent..as in when it starts to get frosty, the sea breeze feels nice & warm..but once into winter, then there is no difference at all, although saying that, it never gets as cold as Scotland..lol
Ice is just the worst Sally, as well as slush..lol
I'm just so terrified of walking on it, zooz, though it is OK now I have bought some Yaktrax and Yetis to put on my shoes. I have to go out whatever the weather to see to the chickens.
i dont mind the frosty days either....thick sweater days when the sun still wamrs your back...but 5 or 6 months of snow and ice and temps in the -20c or lower....screw that
but alas..that is canada
I don't understand why you all don't migrate to Australia
:-) lynxxx
I don`t know how you can take all that minus temps Carlee, brrrr
family is here..although my daughter has announced she is going to become an architect..move to austrailia..make her fortune and marry a cute aussie boy
mind..she's 14
LOL, i can see all the flags now in the chat log Lynxxx
boy she has got it all planned out - how old is she again?
Come on Zooz - eating out is very big here - bet you would find a job easily
Good for her, Carlee, hope it works out for the young lady, if thats waht she wants..lol
true, Lynxxx, but i kinda like being here on this little island, although would love the warmth of your country & people :-)
One thing I really loved about Oz was being able to eat outside all the ti** without having to wonder what the weather would be like. Not like UK, where you can't even guarantee a BBQ in July!
we will see....once she sets her mind to something...she generally does it
Just think of Australia as a very big island zooz :-)
Zooz could get a job on one of the holiday resort islands in Queensland
i would not mind once i retire...the thought of working in a kitchen when it is very very hot outside, does not appeal to me, i would rather be outside enjoying the life & relaxing..lol
OK guess we'll just have to wait a bit to enjoy your company Zooz
Were you thinking of having a chef on call lynxxx?
lol
My husband worked as a cook when he was called up many years ago and has earned a living for quite a few years since then working in a few restaurants. My son is works in a steak house. So I am pretty set up as far as cooking goes - which is why I rarely do it!
Hello, everyone -- can't sleep, so I'm back to find some more words.
hi Christine
Hi Christine. Nice grid today.
Hello, Christine :-)
hi christine...i am up early so here to find some words
And there's one, right away.
And there's one, right away.
it is nice..too bad its so small...
It must be time for a really big one
Oh both, grabs coffee and goes into PB in search of chockie biscuits
Not both, bother!!
No excuses, it was one I already had, too.
Don`t worry, Sally i am sure most of us already had that one, we are ni4 people, we all do it, well i do ..lol
i said it too....i ignore those
*Emerges from short trip to PB with chockie biscuits behind her back*
I just need one more word de6/24 have been racking my brains can anyone help?
I think, if you try to enter a word more than three times, you should be given a pass --- like "yesterday"
10 years Jibibear
i cant find any de words soo
sorry
no thats not it, sorry tose two are the only ones i have
a lie or misleading statement
oh nice one Christine, thank you.
TY Christine
I will think that over
me too..not awake for clues yet...
sounds like the piece of paper you get when you pay something
Better clue, lynxxx
Ooh, ty lynxxx
thank you lynxxx
thank you lynxxx
ok..now i have it thanks lynxxx
I got fireworks!
all thanks to Christine
Congrats Jibii!
WTG Jibiibear
Not me, yours was a better clue.
*~*~*PIMPIM TOSS*~*~*for jibi
ok NOW I can go back to my study LOL
pompom rather..lyong on stomach in bed in dark
is that anything like pompom??
night all
That's how I babble. Sheer laziness.
bye Jibii
LOL, does any one here watch `Most Haunted` with derrick dekorah on the livinit channel
later jibi
never heard of it
I watched it a couple of times
bye, jibii
Sleep well, jibiibear
i do have to laugh when derrick dekorah goes into one of his trances, and acts out the ghost that has taken over his body, good entertainment.
He probably is physic but that show makes it all look terribly phoney
phony?
yes i agree with that, Lynxxx, it is a shame, i do enjoy these programs only to see if th4 can really find paranormal activity, but they do make it look like a joke at times.
Curses on you Sally - I now need chocolate
Babble accepts both ways - something to do with English and American spelling, I guess.
*Passes double chocolate digestive to lynxxx*
ooh yummmm - thanks!
u two keep that up i will be having choc cake for breakie
oh great , now i need a cup of tea & a choccie bar..lol
*Feels guilty*
We have a Scottosh Shoppe near here, and back when I ate sweeties, chocolate digestives were the things I go looking for.
Gawd, bad spelling, and bad grammar.
coffee...with chocolate cake...
We were talking earlier about how different countries have such different breakfasts. Remember in Holland (are you there, sprite?) having bread with chocolate and/or cheese, which I thought very strange at the time.
oh..we have those here...in reg stores
my coffee machine is at the hospital - very sad. Instant is not the same
germany dont they do cheese and meat
You can make real coffee in a jug, lynxxx.
And I think the continentals like "continental breakfast" because they make quite a big thing of lunch, which we don't here.
just need a filter and a funnel and patience pouring with a hot kettle ( even a folded paper towel will do the trick - starving desperate student days)
Don't even need the filter. Put coffee in jug, pour boilng water over, stir vigorously and leave for a few minutes. Take a spoon over the surface and the grounds should sink to the bottom, otherwise just use a strainer.
Remember some Americans we had staying were quite amazed that we had electric kettles in the room for them to make tea or coffee :-)
true enough sally...do it arabic cofee style gently bring coffee to a simmer ( just) several times
Got all that but I need froth in my coffee
u can get it the way i just explained lynxxx...
Froth? You mean frothy milk?
take a cannister of whipped cream on top if truly truly desperate
Yep, frothy milk. Canned cream, my god!
Oh yuk. Canister of whipped cream. Different tastes eh. I have a little electric frother I could use for milk if I wanted.
well...some people add sugar to their coffee...how diff is whipped cream once stirred in the coffee with cream and sugar????
I actually don't ever remember seeing canned cream here, must look for interests sake
( i did mention desperate)
lol carlee, well I suppose I suspect it isn't real cream :-)
i on other hand cant stand sugar in my coffee unless is arabic coffee
Don't have sugar in my coffee, and very rarely cream. Usually just semi-skimmed milk.
u get it with real cream...in pressurized can
( and how is fake stuff diff from coffee mate....etc)
Do people not whip cream themselves in Canada and the US Carlee?
Well it isn't of course, but I don't use coffee mate either you see.
what is coffee mate?
ok..note to fellow babblers..i mentioned desperate a couple times here yes????
It's just the way I prefer it, not a personal criticism.
And fireworks for me.
then there is the coffee with chocolate milk in lieu of reg milk..done that one too....instand mocha
Hooray for Zooz!!
Yay zooz! Still 30 to go for me.
last word was a compound word da7
*~*~POMPOM TOSS*~*~*for zooz
<sigh> i have that one zooz
how about the de7 to turn down an offer say.
yeap...have that one too
how about the de7 something that has gone rotten
i did not have that one..thanks
:-)
that gave me a 2fer
a 3fer actually
20 left and no coffee or chocolate yet in the system
ok, i will be off for the day, take care , All, and happy babbling
bye zooz
later zooz hagd
bye Zooz - have a great day
well.that is me done
now what am i going to do today???
Get out of bed?
its 7 am....still black outside..and no where to be in particular
i will drop my son aat school at 930

( with meat and cheese and croutons in it )
and Congratulations on FW. Sorry I disappeared to salt the 'thousands' of slugs outside
u having slug issues this early in season???
Congrats from me too, was distracted by conversation with A N Other.
( and thank you)
thanks sc
I have slugs all the time! they are having nightly feasts at the moment with all the flowers - especially orchids and hippiastums grrrrrr
ok..gone to make my coffee sans papertowel sans whipped cream..sans chocolate milk..no desperation here..
lol carlee.
lol - bye
i get a few slugs..loads of snails...mind they just go after the mulch...they leave my grasses and sedums alone
brb
Fireworks for me too. Just cannot believe what I had missed for my last words. to 5/16 and plural.
Congrats Sally
*~*~*POMPOM TOSS*~*~*for sally
u know its getting close to time to turn on the furnace when u huddle by the coffee pot for warmth in the am
wow...quiet in here..usually the NA peeps are up by now

I know and it is making me crazy!
even with just two people, a lot of wash accumultes quickly.
unless they send u a repairman in a kilt...buy a new one :)
if they send me one in a kilt, I'll fedex him over to you!
wow this grid is a booger
with several loads of wash hahah
if i got a repairman in a kilt i am not sure i would let him in the door
it's too cold here for kilts!
its colder in scotland i would imagine
and i will accept him ruby :)
what!?!? yada isn't a word? am I spelling it wrong?
with the laundry, carlee?
yada and edda are both words!!!!
no jmc yada not a word but YA* = Ya* + Ya* ='s many Ya**
don't know edda
oops that first = should be a +
got that one car but ty

only 1 y word int he grid
edda is a nordic saga/poem, I think
well there you go -- learn something everyday

ceratinly not enough in me to spell correctly either
*Pouring champagne for JMC*
strange enough car
*giggle*
sounds like you already had some of the champagne, carlee
*sigh* i need to go to the gym
Goodnight all - have a good Monday
slap happy perhaps..i have slept like crap for last few night..i am not getting good sleep..i am sleeping but i am waking up every hour...
my "gym" consists of going up and down the stairs, 100 times a day. Does that count?
nite nite lynxxx
{{lynxx}}
sure car
i mean sure ruby
bye lynxxx have sweet dreams
i was going to say...ME..up and down stairs 100 times...well.actually..maybe yes???
you think so, even if they're spread out over a day?
i work on a 4th floor walk up myself
actually walking is good for you
doesn't it have to be more sustained? I used to be a runner, an hour at a time, but that is long past
but it does help to do intensive 1/2 hour of exercise for the aurobic aspect
twice a week
so very very strange
my trainer just called something he has never done
trainer/stalker?
trainer at the gym
he was just calling to reschedule
two left...od 6/24 and da 6/24 help please!
One of my local cabdrivers called me yesterday, just to see how I'm feeling. Isn't that nice.

morning eva
life does have a way of forcing u to live by its tuerms doesnt it milly
molly evan ( damn jmc is contagious)
Thanks Carlee. It's a one day at a time process dealing with it.
Morning Eva, FOUR MORE DAYS!
four more days. :)
thankfully, i will actually get to sleep in for the next few of them. the bags under my eyes today feel like they reach to the floor!
*~*~*4DAY Pompom toss*~*~*
ooh, carlee pulled out the pompoms. it MUST be a special occasion! ;)
yes molly it is... sadly...but things do get better/ easier with time...
No, under eye bags will never do. *Passing the cool cumber slices to Eva*
good morning everyone - whooohooo - 4 days for Eva
we'll do a pompom countdown now :)
and tea bags....
morning river
Morning River.
might as well go with a full seaweed wrap and pampering
lets set a spa in the PB
mad bath?,,hot rock massage...
how about just sleep? i hear thats free. ;)
we dont charge here in the PB
ooof..speaking of spa....my girl guides last night decided that they was a spa themed fun ( meaning silly) girl guide enrollment ceremony next week
If there is a spa in the penalty box I am going to intentionally commit a foul.
well,in THAT case, sign me up for a hot stone massage! ::drools::
Eva - you icon is matching up with your profile - love the big 4
*isnt
now..how on earth do we incorporate spa int o I promise to do my best to be true to myelf my beliefs and canada to take action for a betterld and accept the guiding law????
I need some sleep too
better world*
ahh, updated the icon without updating the info. should be all better now. :)
mannies and peddies too
Carlee...add "while relaxing in the spa" at the end.
any suggestions peeps?
carlee, if they are relaxed and well-rested, they can do a world of good!
that unfortunately is not part of the guide promise
they are 8-12...boundless energy
we are thinking they have to apply their facials to get to their pins..in the gloop
maybe in spa-in themselves, they can pamper others who need/deserve it?
( have them wrapped up in saran wrap so stay clean )
oooh..some relaxation music playing in background
ooh, did i have a good idea?
well..i kinda put myself into a spa "spot" in my brain...we cant take them to a spa....
too much $$$$$ this needs to be ON THE cheap
you can make at-home facials and treatments with grocery store products...
cheap head bands to keep gloop out of faces
we will do that anyway...:)
i actually found a recipe once for how to make your own bath-bombs, but that does require something you cant get at the grocery store. might be able to get it from the craft store...
relaxation music...
http://www.teachsoap.com/bombs.html
no time for that either...this will last an hour... and parents are there to watch..the first hour is them practicing their promise
ahh
where does one buy witch hazel tho?
and citric acid?
i could make some for the girls to take home that night
just had to clean the calcium buildup out of part of machine huh?? moi?
send me a guy in a kilt any day!
witch hazel you can usually buy in a drugstore or natural-foods store. i use witch hazel as an astringent + buy it at Whole Foods.
citric acid, i think you have to buy online...
work keeps interrupting - need to go - OH ((Ruby)) thanks for your email - I will share with Sarah
i used to get at an arabic grocery store..they use it alot
is also a good diet food additive
i think i read that you can sometimes get citric acid at places that brew beer and make wine...
good, river
we did nto carry it...special order
I think I need a new washer and will try to re-coup some of the repair charges -- in French OMG!
I am fed up!
that stinks Ruby - we bought one a couple years ago - huge expenditure
they only last about 5 years now
its ridiculous
what annoys me a lot is that the first repairman just ordered a part for which I had to wait a week and that didn't work
and that was last saturday.
i am going to need a new one soon...each load i run i smell ozone
that happened to us twice - we ended up buying new - it sucked running to the laundry mat every night - kids, games, uniforms - ugh
Now I'm 2 wks without a washer
i need a new washer and new tires on my suv
there's no laundromat here, I would have to drive 20 minutes each way
and husband is taking a nap
me too - small town living
of course, what makes everything harder, is fighting in French
naps are good
would be good for me, too
hello babble friends
OK - got to go - boss is calling again - doesnt he know babble is more important - lol - have a good day all
hello and bye Trif
I'm one stage beyond exploding head. Could I come to your spa carlee and get wrapped in saran?
good morning trifs {{hugs}} been thinking about you dear..hope u are doing ok
{{trif}}
certainly ruby.....not sure how relaxing its going to be with 24 8-12 year olds but it will be fun
i am doing okay. it took less than 12 hours from the official time of death of my marriage for mr. hate to start his shenanigans up....i'm so pissed.
and they are bringing lots of "treats" for afterwards
noisy little girls calm me right down. I loved teaching jr. high
inviting trifs to our kiddy spa too
trifs is mr. hate related to mr. nasty?
*Passing some champagne to Trif*
he had identified a bank account with a certain amount of money in it, and I am to receive half. NOW, he says it's not cash, it's stocks, and if I get half in cash I will half to pay taxes, and I will not get a full half, and blah blah blah. He had every opportunity to say this in court, and he never did.
( i am trying to come up with ideas to make girl guide enrollment ( like girl scout) .... into a spa nite that the parents can enjoy watching
I think it's time for a PB party!
Hmmmm - not sure, ruby - I do know his last name should be forced to be O'TOOLE though
likely related to DICk head and Jack ass
do you have a lawyer you can trust (or a banker) to look into that for you? Maybe Mr. Hate will have to pay the taxes....
yes, I was reading down, carlee - i am not sure an hour will do you justice, unless you recruit a whole slew of older girl guides to be the treatment providers. That may work out well though - the older girls will then have "captive" audiences, and can tell the new recruits all about the benefits of scouting, how much fun it is, etc.
and yes, ruby, and she is doing just that. I am not just going to roll over, that is for sure!
we have 4 older ones coming in for 9 younger ones
can you get more girls? or at least pair the younger ones up, so the older guides are speaking with them 2 at a time?
good plan trifs...am liking it...
Sounds like an estrogen laden event Carlee. Whee!
it also depends on how much the profit (or loss) on the stocks would impact your tax burden. He may not want to sell stocks and take a hit, but that would lower your taxes if you're not filing jointly
we are filing jointly for 2010, but then that is it
well..i just had a thought of play acting alesson about guiding..u know how hair stylist have captive audiences????and sometimes conversations take place in the whole room???
oh, and hey ruby -- speaking of france....I am getting my original last name back -- Cloutier. Viva la France!
and the capital gains (or loss) can be taken over several years.
visualizing here...
wow, I had a dear friend, Lois Cloutier, who lived in Miami!
but we need a spa "game" for learning about the guide law
( I will be going back to my maiden name once al is said and done...not fench..i was a potts)
how many laws are there, carlee? I have an idea brewing....
I knew her when she was pretty old, but she must have been a great beauty when she was young
The Guiding Law challenges me to: •be honest and trustworthy •use my resources wisely •respect myself and others •recognize and use my talents and abilities •protect our common environment •live with courage and strength •share in the sisterhood of Guiding.
I've kept my first married name (kelley), everything is in that name and I didn't want to do all the paperwork. It infuriates this husband but tant pis, as they say in FR
my BA, MA, son, and all my possessions, including this house, are in that name
oooh..very good ruby
Got an idea! Have a color to represent each one of the laws. An older girl sits with two younger scouts. As you teach the first law, the older girl paints the corresponding law color onto a nail on each girls hand. As you read the next one, the older girl paints that law's color on to the girls' nails. So, the girls will end up with funky, multicolor manis that will remind them of the different guide laws. I think and older girl would be able to do it, as it really is only painting two nails at a time, one on each younger girl per law
There are seven laws, but perhaps you could split some up, say, honest and trustworthy, to get to 10?
hmmm...seven colours...plus plus guiding..which is blue
they used to be brownies that orange
and the older girls are pathfinders..that green
makes 10
if you get the cheapy .99 cent stuff at a drug store you could get their
there
start as a brownie....do the law....then they guides...and one day will be pathfinders ..nice trifs
or, I don't know, use sharpies or something....
eesh..no..nail polish
cool..ok
at the very least, it gets them sitting quietly during the presentation, and really thinking about each law, as they look at their nails
yeap..there is that
and they will all be the "same"
go to school next day...all with funky colours..people will ask
:O) am likiNG this
right, so the next day, when they are in school, or whereever, other girls will notice them matching, ask why their nails are like that, and poof, you have more girls signing up
oh, snap!
heheeh
can I just say, if this does work out, I will be so chuffed to have been a help, even in a small way, after the 8 million kindnesses you have shown me
hahaha...u crack me up....i am not doing the planning...a have a crew of my pathfinders planning it....but i willmake the suggestion and if they want to do it..they will run with it..i'll keep you posted..i will know tomorrow what teir intent is
thier*
their even..sheesh
i cant type today
too much champers with molly over there
will bring nail polish remover incase the girls come with painted nails at the start
now..nails..done..pin in facial mask...
what else???? WE HAVE FOODAGE FOR END OF NIGHT
i think i would just focus on the nails, really. and then snacks in the same colors, maybe? well, not blue, I guess, unless you did blue frosted cookies, or blue corn chips, or something like that
i was thinking a little bag to take home with a nail polish and an emery board and...some hair bands or something..dollar store stuffs
be sure to send them home with the recipe of the facial. maybe urge them to pass along the pampering?
do you have to make all the food yourself, or is it shared out amongst the older girls too?
ooooh, great idea evanadine!
the girls bring the snacks to work on their tasty treat badge
we will....the recipe i mean...hopefully i can find ripe avacados....will ask my parent who runs a grocery store tonight to save ripe ones for us to buy ( bruised etc )
ugh - hate avocados....shudder
yeah, bruised ones are actually the best because they are nice + squishy. :)
ok....gotta run to get groceries ( makes greatr masks tho...lovely on skin...wonderful green gooey yack colour for them to have on faces :)
hate avocados? i dare say thats a punishable offense!
ok..gotta run and get groceries
good luck carlee dear!
trif, that was a brilliant idea!! the girls will be quiet, will love their funky nails and the word will get out and other girls will join. That is wonderful!
and, btw, keeping fingers crossed, but I think the washer is working.....
I think I need some kind of tap water filter because the part he made me clean out was full of calcy gunk
why, thanks ruby!
and good news about your washer! I have a well here at my house, and I have to clean out the dishwasher grindy thingie and the shower heads ALL the time, because they get sand in them. pleasant!
this was grey icky gunk and stuck. He gave me this 3-part thing to take apart and clean --- and I did it and put it back together when he couldn't!
too funny. In my next life I'll be a repairman
oh, well done! If you are handy with it, why not be one now? we could all use some extra money, right?
now I think I'll take a Xanax and wait for my husband's doctor to come
I am old old old, especially today!
I hope you can sort out that bank stuff, trif, good luck with that!
and give mr. hate a kick in the pants from me!
jack needs more then a kick in the pants
needs the whole foot and leg up there examining the prostate
maybe even 2 feet and legs....from 2 very large hairy men :p
I take it Jack is Mr Hate...what did he do now? that sweet man
never mind, didnt mean to be nosy but I have been there done that and hello everyone this grey rainy morning
Morning Annie.
Hi Molly
gm
hi kje! sight for sore eyes, you are
good to see you annie - how are you?
I fell on my heinie and it hurts..
oh no! how did you fall?
I tripped over the rug while watching the Yankees get beat up by your Rangers...How much naproxen can I take a day...I have Aleve
where do you hurt?
My tailbone...did it Saturday afternoon but it seems to be improving each day.
any redness/bruising/swelling? any pain in the groin?
no, thank goodness
it will get better everyday
you can use a donut to sit on if it is painful to sit - can get it at your pharmacy
before trying aproxyn - have you tried max dose tylenol?
aleve - will avoid the n's
I am taking 440 mg of Aleve twice or three times, is that okay....a pillow is working fine. Okay thenI will take Tylenol today and see if that helps
kje, I really appreciate your advice
twice daily should be fine, 3 times daily is getting up there. 1) make sure you take it with food
I will. Thanks you so much.
2) do not take it and the lie down - stay upright at least 45 minutes or so 3) if you are on any diuretics or certain BP meds, it will interact - you can email me privately if you are not sure if it interacts
wowww. are you a nurse/doctor/pharmacist, Kje?
tylenol is safest and should be taken in a scheduled fashion - I would start with 1000mg (2 extra strength or 3 regular strength) 3 times daily
I will be upright for a least 45 mins. now---just took 2 tylenol extra strength--do have to take BP meds
(such good, thorough advice!)
kje is a doctor and gerontologist
if the tyleol isn't sufficient, I would continue it and add only low dose naproxen to avoid needing to take higher naproxyn doses
and hi NB
you should be able to make it without in a week or so
thanks and hi, Annie :)
ah, great advice, kje, just wrote it down
so sorry you fell - be more careful and get rid of things like loose rugs - they are bad
hi NB, yes, I am a doctor
so much for HIPAA - LOL
ahh, thought you were either medically trained or just one of those magic people who is uncommonly knowledgable about all things ;)
`the damn thing was loose..I was running (ha) to see Josh Hamilton's home run...yes so much for privacy but I do apreciate your help.
*wasnt
o offense, but at your age, it is a good idea to go through the house and really look at it from a safety perspective and get rid of/repair fall risks - not worth the consequences
I totally agree and will do that, kje....no offense taken
I have't been watching the games, annie - but it appears your yankees aren't doing so well ; )
*sob*and they lost last night....kje, how is your Mom?
she is doing well - just got back from visiting her aunt in WV
oh that is good news
I am stuck at 25 - must list and get this doe - eed to study
see you later, kje
hagd anie
you too and thanks again
yw, email me if eeded
I will, thanks

yup
i also have it pinned to my start menu
its front line protein folding research for cancer...it utilizes your unused bandwidth to simulate the folding patterns of indivual proteins so that predictions can be made on the genetic level of canderous mutations....in a nut shell...yes crossy?
you got it carlee;))
Crossy, I see Carlee and Nono has passed you as well
by tapping into unused bandwidht it allows thousands of computers working on this project rather then the few with indiv researches at stanford
just think, you could be sitting with you freinds.playing cards and one says what have you been doing lately/ and you can say"doing human protein folding for research to cure cancer" lol
i aM on a very slow computer atm mom,i am folding 1 every 3 days with this one
rather tens of thousands...and it takes a back seat to the computer's user..so if you are doing something online... the program backs off... so it does not slow your machine down
mine will probably be 6 days :-)
see? carlee understands;))
it is easy to do and safe
well mom is lucky, she got a big one right off the start

I'm still waiting for Tim Hortons to move south of New York.
Crossy, or any other Candians. Do you watch "Mad Men?"
ok..little maple sugar hard candies shaped like maple leaves in the pb
i have not seen the show yet..we do not watch a lot of television
i have watched it bichon....i started watching online....havent picked up much of it tho
The penalty box is looking good today. A spa, champagne and maple candy.
There is a French speaking Canadian character named Megan. This is 1965. Do you really think anyone in that age, and French Canadian would name their daughter that?
nor do i...i will watch online tho...( and the choc birthday cake i put in there milly..or did u eat ALL OF IT?????
molly* even
megan would not the first choice
There is still cake in there Carlee. Bichon, I don't think there were many French Canadian Megans in the '60's.
but... is she french canadian b/c the family settled there a generation ago..and originally from scotland or other celtic area????
remember bichon this is some american producers slant on a french canadian lol
That's not said. But she calls up her mama and is excitedly speaking to her in French
there were many scots in the 40,s and 50,s
ψ Ψ ψ Ψ ψ ↠W I R E F O R K S → ψ Ψ ψ Ψ ψ
and....there would be alot of english still there..pre revolution...
yaa for j.c!!
*~*~*~POMPOM TOSS*~*~*for jc
Well done, Julian! Or should I say, Spirit of the Bells...
Megan is a really popular name here now, but in the the 60's never heard of it and there are lots of Irish here
we usually try to get to the border in the afternoon have a sleep, and drive right through at night if we are going east
Thank you, Jesse! :)
yay for J.C.!
must compliment the picture - more peacock-like than a peacock itself :P
Thank you, redshoes! :)
so un heard of that she is a megan....of celt decent who is now living in quebec...and mom could be quebequois and dad anglo
so not unheard of....and is a dad's family name...
And the poofter goes...*poof!*
Good morning, my little chickadees!
okay, but she has a French last name. Not wanting to make a big deal of this, but it seems funny.
Megan is a Welsh name, surely.
really, Haz? Always thought of it as Irish, or Celtic or Gaelic
mornign judi
It's absolutely not Irish - Welsh as far as I know, Welsh form of Margaret.
Thank you Haz for telling me this. We, in the US are so ill informed
hi haz
NO problem, bichon - it always amuses me when babblers declare Moira to be Irish when it's really Scottish, Maire would probably be the Irish equivalent.
irregardless could be mixed marriage int he show... as the anglais and the frenchies mixed quite freely and happily in the 40's and 50's
And hello to all.
moira is one of my fav names...
and yet..the only moira i know is from a pure line finnish family....and she is in her late 60's immigrated from finland
Maeve is mine
I've been listening to the A.M. Smith Scotland Street novels. Love listening to their pronounciations
if i remember correctly her maiden name was nikkander ( spelled horrible wrong i am sure)
At least Maeve looks like it sounds, some of the Irish names are a bit more impenetrable.
Bichon, does it say who some of the actors are who are narrating the Scotland Street novels? Or is it Alexander McCall Smith himself?
did crossy drop off the planet?...or did he dive intot he puzzle?
Let me look it up, just returned the CD to the library.
Robert Ian MacKenzie
decline
DO excuse me.
He does all the narration, even the female roles
Thanks, NB!
tyvm NB, I was looking for that word
I googled him, bichon and recognised him once I saw the picture. He'd have to do falsetto for Bertie!
He does and his Irene is really terrific.
Does anyone have the de 7 after the NB blurting
Awful woman, (Irene) but so funny.
I have de7/40: years in blocks of 10.
sorry was on phone.dad ruptured his gall bladder
Dang! Never heard of a ruptured gall bladder before!
That is the last de7, bichon. There's also da7 when TV is at its best (sarcastic font employed)
Nasty, cross, hope he gets VERY prompt attention.
yikes......
seems he went in on the 14th and is doing ok and on physio atm
There are 3 de 7 this one is the 7/36
where is dad crossy...city i mean
You're just hearing about this now, Crossy?
he is in north bay carlee
ok...decent sized hospital there
My grandfather's gall bladder ruptured from a giant gallstone and was getting gangrene! He survived.
not like milton....we had to drop one teacher off in milton on our way to tornto last week
Yes, de7/36 to refuse, de7/40 periods of 10 years, de7/48 rotted
i just got txt from her..she STILL in hospital was one week on friday last
yes north bay is a good hospital he will get good care there
oh, doe, I already have that.
*doh
I'm taking a break
See you, bichon.
Greetings all
{FM!!!}
Hey carlee!!!
Greetings, FM! I'm in the middle of composing an e-mail to you to tell you about my interesting life.
2 lines should do it.
LOL and hello Haz :)
how are we doing today fm???
I can't believe 2 lines would be anywhere sufficient.
oooh..almost 1/2 way on my second fold crossy :) shoul dbe done t his evening
Well no, not unless I resort to textspeak, and you'd know it was an imposter if I started that.
Good thanks carlle - the car had it's annual service and passed with flying colours so it is all ready for the winter.
YA** for the car!!! mine not so ya* i need new tires before winter sets in. :0(
<passes jar of maple candies 'round the room again for 2nds ...anyone?
As the car is getting to be a bit of an old lady I am always a bit anxious. HAd to laugh my annual mileage since last service was just over 5000 miles. I need to get out more!
i dont know my annual mileage but i know is more then 5000 mi
hello again, 10 mins to sit down while dinner cooks
what for dinner there ruby?
Hi ruby
Hello, ruby.
seafood salad, spicy chicken pasta and fruit salad for husband, liver and chopped spinach for me, beef hearts etc. for pups. mostly leftovers hahah
Didn't enjoy this grid as much as some we have had recently - those d's gave me a real run around :(
how are you FM? is it cold there? There is the first snow on the mountains here
great clue, btw, haz
Oh, you ain't seen nothing yet, ruby.
Am well ruby and glad to report no frosts here yet.
I think I probably picked the last of the berries just now
but there was just a rainbow, so I feel encouraged
Although they are forecasting artic winds coming down over GB in the next few days.
this one was too short fm... we had a frost warning last night but i am not sure if we had one..skies were clear so we could have... and sounds yumm ruby
everybody will be happy
I am not ready for winterizing; I need your old lady car's mechanic, fm
esp the pups :)
esp the pups :) my kitty had chicken heart last night...i dont think she stopped purring at all during the night
I give them beef heart risotto made with brown rice and cauliflower, serve it with parmesan
Well he is quite a young pup ruby - guess I could send him over to you.
Ooh Rah! Fireworks!
chicken hearts are the best!
well done, Judi! :)
*~*~*POMPOM TOSS*~*~*for judi
ya** judi
Congrats Judi!!
( actually..correction was turkey heart)
NB - is that your sister in the pic?
when I make giblet gravy at Thanksgiving, I use the turkeys heart, liver and gizzard
(in the stuffing, too)
Ohhh no Judi, just an old friend. It was my first major holiday sans parents - that's my friend Sarah and I, on the beach in Magaluf at six in the morning. Hence, the pyjamas!
so do i....and white wine :) not in the stuffing....sage and mushrooms in the stuffing
congrats to Judi! Hi Babblers!
hmmm
hello aloy :o)
I never thought of wine in the gravy; how un-French is that?
afternoon all!
Ah. Okay. I say, you were rather overdressed for the beach.
alo aloy
feels sad for all those heartless turkeys
all my turkey gets is a bottle of dry white wine and the onion and sage in the stuffing....
Almost time for lunch. Gotta *POOF*. See you kids tomorrow!
hello ruru
LOL Judi. We got all hyped up in the middle of the night and ran down there in our jammies, hence the attire ;)
oh, hello Eva :)
tc, Judi..
hello darling. :)
I thought the bottle of wine was for the cook, a la Julia Child
did anybody see Julie and Julia?
Bye Judi.
that the OTHER bottle of wine...one for the bird...2 for the cook...
bye judi
i did... so cute
i read her blog too...its still up you can read it....its what the movie was based upon
I loved that movie!
no kidding?
what is the name of the blog?
yea...its a true story....she really cooked the entire book
i cant remember now but google julie and julia
u'll find it somewhere
will do!
I saw it and really enjoyed it ruby
took me a week of reading late at night to read it all
it almost made me feel like cooking raofl
how are we all this afternoon?
I used to do really ambitious cooking, but those days are past
( that was where i got my comment the other day about cooking everything in 1/2 a pound of butter )
how about 27 dresses? Did anybody else like that? My husband won't watch those "girls' movies"
i still like cooking...but i am not as amitious as i used to be....when trying new recipes...yes...
I missed that carlee, too true
I made vegan sushi recently, it was sooo good... I wonder if that answers your question, Eva ;) but how are you?
hi again eva
fortunately, my husband will eat the same things for days, so I can make a huge pot of something and feed it to him for 3 or 4 days
had you made sushi before nb?...or is this the first ime for u?
heh, it does. you mentioned you were going to make that -- glad it turned out well! what yummy veggies did you use? as for me, my head is nearing explosive levels, and i am taking great effort to remove my shoulders from my ears (as is their usual position when i get stressed). but otherwise doing quite well...
deep breaths, evaN.....
Never tried it before, Carlee - I like making everything from scratch when I cook, so it was really interesting! Then again, I'm used to cooking a lot of Korean stuff, so maybe I have a better feel for those kind of flavours, I don't know...
dinner now, see you later, kids
i used to fdo that ruby..alas with any given number of teenagers appearing for dinner... the food / leftovers do not last as long..
bye, ruby..
do you make kimchee NB? I was just reading that everybody has his own (secret) recipe
thanks, Eva! awww, deep breaths though! you know it will all go smoothly, you will be a gooorgeous bride, and will live happily ever after. the end ;)
it's just us and the dogs and we all eat differently
(NB..if not a sushi purist...try making the rice with basmati instead of short grain..just add a bit xtra water when steaming/boiling to make it stickier to start before adding rice vinegar with salt and sugar ...does not roll as nicely BUT..tastes WOW )
not the end until i get you over to the states to make sushi for me. ;)
that is a great idea, carlee!!
*poof*
Eva you need a soak in the hot tub and a massage.
unfortunately the boys do not inherit the family recipe, Ruby - at least not in my house. Will have to ask my sister one day!
my daughter and i do sushi feasts periodically... wherein we make about 20 rolls and then pig out watching movies for 6 or 7 hours...we are stuffed to the rim...but its soooo yummy...
oh I'm a total purist when it comes to rice. I get very passionate with my rice. I enjoy the secret smugness of being able to eat rice with chopsticks.
( am telling u nb..u are missing out on a mouthwatering taste explosion by not trying teh basmati...just once...and yes..its fun to eat rice with chopsticks )
just all reminds me of when we first moved here, and I remember my mum getting huge hand-sewn cloth parcels full of the korean ingredients you couldn't get here - even blocks of doenjang! of course you can get a lot of it here now...
i used to be able to eat rice with chopsticks when i was a youngun. i guess i lost that ability somewhere along the line... nowadays, if i am having a rice dish, i punk out + ask for the fork... :/
FIREWORKS!
( i guessand loving to cook..and not having the "traditions" of food behind me when it comes to family recipes....i look at different ways to do stuff)
whoo hoo red
hi all
yay for redshoes, congrats!!!!
*~*~*POMPOM TOSS*~*~* for red!!!
hi again jmc
I think you fail as an Asian if you can't eat rice with chopsticks. They make you give in your passport. ;)
hi jmc
anyone need clues before I poof?
yes, I am spinning wheels on da7.44
what aout those of who can eat it with chopsticks whe are not asian????
opp of night****
who are not* even
da 7/44 not night + hours/minutes/etc
then you get to feel very pleased with yourself indeed, Carlee ;)
oh, gheez was going the wrong direction.. tyvm carlee and red
oh darn..and i was looking for a gold sticker <sigh>
speaking of chopsticks, going to go heat up my leftover chinese now :)
*gives car a gold star on her forehead *
rats must reboot the computer
yay!!!!!
LOL. If it's any consolation, you're the first non-asian I've ever met who can do it. Trying to teach the boyfriend but it's slow work. :P
who wants to see pics of my new car?
i taught my kids to use chopsticks when they were small..we started with cheaters using a folded up piece of paper and a hair elastic....to get teh feel and texture etc
ooh, congrats on the new wheels, red
food tastes different with the wodden ones..i dont like the plastic ones... doesnt taste right
show us pls red
wooden* even
sounds like a fun afternoon, Carlee! my learning method was a sharp slap on the backs of my hands if I did it wrong ;)
go here: http://www.bellemeadeautobrokers.com/ and search for the SOLD 2006 VW Jetta Sedan
once again...cultural tradition...versus exploring ( seriously..one day..for carlee..make the sushi with basmati....u'll love it)
Mm, lacquered bamboo in my house. Or ivory, which I refused to use.
pretty red....
that is what i have nb... laquered bamboo.
hehehe..one time i did a craft with my girl guides...we made hair sticks from chop sticks...got a whole bunch of nail polish..and beads with copper wire..and a bunch of gem decalls you use for finger nails...girls had a hoot makng them then tring to do up their hair with them
thanks carlee
i just bought the pack of cheap throw away chop sticks for them....i still have all the sets i made
haha! holding one's hair up with chopsticks is nowhere near as effortless as some make it appear :P
when my hair was longer..i had success...not now...
now too short...
ahhh. general tsos with broccoli and rice and an egg roll. you dont get any more americanized than that :)
i wore my hair up that night with the sticks... and when the girls wanted to know what we were making i just pulled them out of my hair.. the young ones were all googly eyed
so darn cute
I could probably still do it with mine, it's fairly long right now. Disgusting. What a hippie ;)
what fun, carlee
LOL Eva...would the Chinese recognise it? :P
doubtful, NB. this is as generically american as chinese food gets...
yea..they would..they'd call it american cuisine
poofing now. later kids!
they'd order it when going out for american :)
byebye red
bye, red
ive been lucky enough to have experienced REAL chinese food on several occasions, so i always crack up when my friends wanna get takeout. it is so NOT real chinese food...
Oops, I make it about 45 minutes until Frank gets home...so I'm going to dedicate that time to making myself look slightly less of a complete mess.
no place near me to get real chinese...
put ur hair up nb :)
{{oodles of monster hugs}} nb

Afternoon Babblers. I sure do need to find these last 45.
or 42 as the case may be.
howdy red
How is everything Mr Hair?
hairy as usual:)
ha ha!
well down to 31, probably should takw a break!!!
awfully quiet in here...Did I smell or something?
no, that's just the way babble often is these days...
I always think its just me, we have had a lot of shorter grids these days as well...
Hi hurshy.
hi
27 left, I am sleepy, but...I just want to finish.
Hi hurshy and red.
Good Day all. NBT in 20 words. Seems like an okay grid. Am I wrong?
Hi Nef, it's OK but I found the d's bit of a trial.
Hi FM. There are a bunch of them; aren't there?
Just a few but there are some great clues back in the chog.
I wish you good babbling and hope you enjoy the grid. TTFN :)
bye FM ( was checking chog; can't see hints in the last visible chat. So at least I won't feel TOO tempted yet.
Hello...
Hi Jellen FM and nef. I need to take a break, but I keep coming back!
howdy all,back again;)
Hi, red! Thought I was alone...
Hi, crossy!
((jellen))
4333/6666, crossy...still on my first fold!
hello everybody
Hi, jac
hi Jacs!
yaa for jellen!!
heya jellen
heya red and crossy
howdy jacq:)
not to worry jellen, mom also has a big one to fold.actually the big ones are much sought after
how is everybody today?
not too bad at all jacq!
Have a doctor's appointment :-( and then a visitation--my friends dad died...not a happy kind of day...
how is the weather that far north crossy?
nice sunny fall day and 11c
try to find some quiet time today then jellen, those kind of days can be draining
my da had a burst gall bladder but he is recovering well
wow crossy 11c is good, it's supposed to be about 8 here but we have a north westerly and sleet, it's very cold
will think positive thoughts for him crossy
we were 8c,then the sun broke through:)
Actually need to run now, or I'm going to be late for my appointment...happy hunting, all!
tc jellen
we were 8 in the sun yesterday
bye jellen
27 c here...
well scotland..8 c is a nice midsummer day there;)
LOL 4 c tonight with sleet
jealous here red, temps like that would be great on my hands
now that is more average;))))
hello again
we are due for more frost tonight
((ruby))\
jacs you need to retire to Florida. though the food would be different.
hi ruby.25 left, not finding any...
i think i already have retired, my boss cut my hours right back gradually because of my pain and now i have 1 client a week
retire here jacq, you will be right at home, just the same, only colder ;)
am feeling pretty useless
{{crossy}} [[jacq]] (((red)))
according to the wind chill calculator it feels like 1c here
heya ruby, hows things?
Oh my... well Jac, maybe soon it will all pick up.
we moved to Europe from Miami, but even when it's cold and nasty, it's better to have 4 seasons
you would love you january days of minus 30;)
one doc said i have arthritus, the other said i am too young lol
I am not a fan of cold and nasty. no need for 4 seasons for me.
4 seasons are nice just not all in the same hour
my head is exploding and my washing machine is still not fixed, 3 repairman visits!
I have arthritis Jac, you are never too young for it...its in my hips and my toes.
wow ruby
that sounds like scotland, all right!
we have a saying here,if you do not like the current weather, just wait 20 minutes
oh, red, I am sorry. Does anything help?
i was told i have it in my hands and wrists and toes and maybe my hips too
I need 34 words but don't feel hopeful
I'm good with it, it just hurts when I do too much, but I think Jacs has more pain.
the other doc said im too young and to try some stuff that opens my arteries lol
do you both take anti-inflammatories? [sp??]
mine hurts when i do too much, but today i took it easy, just chopped some veggies and general bits but they just got sorer all day
I do once in a while, Dont take it every day.
i was taking some but i have a history of gastro intestinal bleeding, but i take codamol
I have trouble with a hip but put a high stool in the kitchen so I can sit while I chop
i am relativly young also, but evey place i have ever broken a bone or have pins and screws in it full of athritis
I take an anti-inflammatory and 2 codeines every morning and then can manage
wow you can not de****** too many word in this one.
i've never broken a bone, but my hands and wrists have bothered me for years, i also have reynaulds but it only affects 2 fingers in each hand lol
hm that's de and how many asterisks? hahah
I can't see any other words
ust found a few more de,s=what happens when meat rots
had those, but thanks anyway
and time in ten-year periods
and maybe we're all in de***** with our various arthritic bits and pieces
did you get the plural and singular of those?
decrepit isn't in here
no, de + country singer patsy
thanks for the ten year periods!
ahhhhhh, i had that one but great clue
twas excellent...
do you have the mi5that uses the high point tile?
ty for 10 year word;)
does anybody like the movie 27 Dresses? when Katherine Heigl sings Benny and the Jets
have never seen it
ooh, ty jacq, an old sailor like me shd hv known that
me neither.
oyes
ayes
oooh poop, sorry
I've seen it 3 times; it's great fun
ahh a sailing ship mast
let's join jacq in the pb for after-dinner drinks
you often see it spelt with two of the high point tiles
grand marnier anyone?
drinks would be nice lol
i liked 27 Dresses
ill have 2 fingers on ice please
*holds out glass fir grand marnier*
when my sister started talking about worldwide water shortages, I said "Let them drink Evian!" I'm losing my marbles
hello jmc; my head has exploded
gives crossy the two fingers thathave reynaulds
lol ruby
must be messy
LOL ruby
offers to help clean up exploded head mess
heya jmc
I'll take care of your spiders in exchange!
*gets mop for jaq and find pail*
*it is so nice to have a chat that makes me smile!*
ahhhhh fair swap ruby, ty
ruby..i order you to put your brains back in your skull! whats the matter with you?! have you lost your mind?? lol
buy a new washing machine ruby
yes, I think I'll have to but will try to negotiate a pay-back on the repair bills
LOL crossy
hahah crossy
:))
i went late night shopping with my daughters last night it was a lot of fun and we all got time out of the house at night, will have to do it again sometime
ruby, is it a new machine/ or still within warranty? if so you have more rights
that sounds wonderful but where can you shop late at night?
sounds fun jac. . .how late can you shop?
just asda (walmart?) i needed pasta bowls and wanted to get out for a while
I used to grocery shop at 2 am at the 24 safeway
a woman shopping is a happy woman;))..crossy ducks....
it's 24 hours 6 days a week
*kicks crossy*
i hate shopping crossy, but it was strangely relaxing
no, we bought it when we bought the house, 13 yrs ago, but when it broke my husband said get a repairman. But the first guy should have said that it needed more than a new part. Now the 3rd guy says it needs an even more expensive one.
ruby it might be time to cut your losses
a new machine will use less detergent and less water and less energy
so now with all the new parts invested, you are trying to decide if to cut your losses or spring for the big fix
what jacq said
that's what I think. Enough is enough and, although I can operate the draining etc manually, it is too annoying
sorry to me the point of a machine is not to do it manually
it's a Miele and I think the brand is overrated from my limited experience in France.
put the old machine outside and turn it into a composter and get yerself a nice new efficent onbe
i agree with jmc
next, he'll get me a mangle (you're probably all too young to know what that is....)
i am beginning to think HP computers are overrated
I know what a mangle is
:)
when i first got married i had a sink and a mangle, he had a full sized pool table
mine is less than a year old and I have just sent it off for the third repair (fortunately under warrantee)
i just build my own jmc and avoid the stress
I've had trouble with all my Miele appliances and with my Gaggenau stove!
sounds good to me but He should have been working the mangle
beyond my abilities crossy
beside i like laptops
you should have draped the wet clothes around the sides of the pool table
ruby look at consumer websites for reviews of models as they all have thweir issues
lappys have their own personalities
lol good plan ruby
and my computer is making its "hairball" noise again, intermittently
self build is easy jmc, so long as the mother board is compatable with all the bits
i have my big HP laptop which I use for most things and my little netbook for travel
oh you techies, you!
i have an acer lappy and an acer pc and they are both great so far (touches wood, hairy wood being best)
wish i was there for you ruby,i could give it a tune up for you
lol ruby what a great description of that sound!
my computer is a hodgepodge, kept old parts as I've had to change things. I have a really old dell keyboard which I love
you need a teenager ruby
*shocked look*
OMG my husband is bad enough hahah
i do that ruby, i salvage old pc's and use the parts to upgrade or replace on my old one or on friends ones
random factoid: the guy that founded dell was a conscientious objector during vietnam
My son was just here two weeks ago and I think he and his wife overloaded my washing machine
listen ladies with computer towers,,the biggest issue with them is dust and hairballs building up in the heat sink behind the cpu fan..it is an easy fix and will prolong your computers life
how do you get the fan cover off, crossy?
either use compressed air or if you feel really brave do what i do and vaccume it with a couple of straws attached to the end of the hose
most hare held on by a single clip for intel products or 4 phillips screw for amd products
okay lunch is over (tuna and crackers) so back to the next crisis!
*poof*
undrerneath will be the heat sink
I will do that tomorrow having just read a New Yorker article on procrastination. I think I need more practice.....
LOL ruby
clean the fins and replace fan
but please ground yerself to remove static first
fireworks.... !! Now maybe I'll get some "stuff" done around my house !!
I have to go, thank you all for cheering me up
brb

{{everybody}}
I won first prize in that , long ago !! LOL
actually, I've done quite a bit today :-))
I'll procrastinate later...
I work best under pressure,.... and have been known to sew a dress for myself for some occasion the next, even same evening !!!

speaking of procrastinating, dear fiance just called me from the office supply store. he is buying paper and cardstock for printing our programs. for our wedding. which is in four days. im amazed he didnt wait until friday!
too funny... that was my last word in the grid
da (not night ) + hour on the clock

heya eva, and wow

I'm going to change my profile picture right now... a shot of our Canadian rockies ... maybe add a few pictures to Flikr account too.
i'm wary of flkr, is it safe?
I would use it just for pics....I use Picasa... much the same thing. Many of my relatives use Flikr to share pictures , or photo bucket is another similar one.

bye poodle
I wonder if I got rid of the 'bum' in my Babble name, would my actual posterior disappear.....
lol soodle
we need posteriors or we couldn't bend our bodies to sit
my brother almost bled to death when he ripped his off.
Hmmm. A reduction, then?
wow m9, how??
He ripped his butt off????
i am wincing here
I'm squirming....
what did i walk in on?
lol cos and hello
Bums, butts, posteriors!!!!
:) hello everyone
bicycle slid in gravel.. he was going to crash into a guard rail.. so he jumped to clear it. and it would have worked great.. but he just happened to be right where a support post was. Yup...ripped one side off. when the ambulance got there.. he was close to death from blood loss.
Oh, my goodness. Has he recovered, M9?
oh yes. he's fine
wait.. he ripped his butt off?
oh my bob
sounds horrific
may i ask how old he was?
Maybe I should just consider a diet.......
he's accident prone. In highschool, he was on the diving team.. was doing a double flip.. broke his nose on the bottom of the board on the SECOND flip..
i think 30's
maybe he should consider a bubble
or the time he changed the brake pads on my sister's bike and went to test it out... but he'd put them in backwards.. so going down a steep hill.. they just flew out of their holders.. and he landed on the hood of a car driving by....
he should just stay at home
LOL
yeah.. there's more.LOL
by the phone with no shelves or trip hazzards
evening
heya sprite

Ha ha! I turned a .22 hunting rifle into a dishwasher. After my husband vamoosed, my dishwasher broke down, so I sold his gun to replace it!

And hi, NB and JC!
Hi, Jellen. :)
I don't clash with your icon - how nice. ;)
what a lovely display, Julian ;) thanks, both of you!
No, we're rather complementary, I'd say...:-)
Yes. It's not every day you're congratulated with rusty old pitchforks, is it, Jesse? ;)
No, when I do something worth congratulating so many people go down the more traditional wine 'n flowers route...the pitchforks are SO refreshing.
I'm sure. :P
just peeped in and saw J.C.!!! Nice to see a "celebrity"and someone I recognise!!! Hi.
Hi, mo
Hi, mo? Don't think we've met here before?
No I dont think we have, but nice to meet you.

sorry the pompoms are old hack now...but hey...they are mine
hi N.B. and congratulations.
And you do them so well, carlee!
Yes. Carlee the Babble pompom girl. ;) Your pompoms are safe, Carlee. I prefer colourful feather boas. Much flouncier...
thank you, Mo :) and Carlee...I enjoy the pompoms ;)
di 5/22, please?
And rusty old pitchforks, of course.
It's like 12, Jellen - only a different first vowel.
What you call 12 of anything?
Thanks, JC!
You're welcome.
well..glad u all like them after all this time... :0)
got to say JC, I'm loving the spirit of the bells costume...hoping you'll wear it next time we do lunch ;)
I don't think that's such a good idea, Jesse. Do you think we'd be seated and served? They might think aliens have landed...
de 6/24?
Oh I don't know. It IS London ;)
The de6,24 = lies and de****, Jellen.
Thanks, JC...so foreign to my life experience :-)
Well yes, Jesse. I have seen worse there...
hey ... come up here ... we love "ALIENS" he! he! he!
I will be...
WHEN?
Leeds next Tuesday - West Yorkshire Playhouse.
sorry for shouting :-D
Stoke, Bolton Lancs. and Newcastle next month.
So yes. I will be 'oop north'. ;)
ca 6/27?
never been to the Playhouse, hope everything goes well, which I am sure it will.
Another spelling of the ca5,20 after it, Jellen. Golfer's assistant.
Jellen ... what you keep your tea in.
nm...got it...
Fireworks!
Thanks, mo!
Yes, it is so far mo, thank you - other than some of the transportation home afterwards. :P
And JC

Is that your dog, mo?
you dont like travelling much then? J.C.
It isn't that, mo - ah, if you could follow my updates you'd see. ;)
I will look.
Travel conditions didn't quite meet your exacting standards, hmmm? ;)
J.C. No its not my dog, but it looks very much like a friend of ours dog ... so cute.
a lhas apso.
sorry lhasa apso.
I think ... LOL.
I must complain, you know - having to be driven home from Southampton on Sunday night in a Renault Espace with fabric seats that caused me sneezing fits and hives - not exactly fun. :P I think it was something the upholstery had been sprayed with that set me off. The driver tried to placate me with Tesco's pretzels. The horror.
Yes, Lhasa Apso - was thinking that.
*cough*DIVA*coughcough*
lol, JC... LOL NB!
i miss our old renaults..i grew up in them..litterally..my parents always had them until i was 20 or so
Diva? Taking public transportation as I do when in London, Jesse? :P Hardly.
cant get them here anylonger...
Oh can't you?

Hi, LA

i don't know what that is
oh hell no, i'm not canadian, thank goodness
i like a warm climate
we get that for 2 months of the year...
You use the Queen's English to shit? Hmmm. How would that work? You announce the activity very politely, in the Queen's English? :P
Get bent? I'm already bent, Leslie dahhhling...
but of course...Jc...u get it now :) we'll make u an honorary CDN yet...but...its only on even days mind
why isn't "ledo" a word? it was in the grid last week

delouse
decomb :)
bah! :)
:)
anyone have either of the top row e words for nbt?
toldja id be quick! :)
delouse. hello everyone!
ED4 is a mens nickname
ed4 double the middle and add a vowel.
a man's nickname or a whirlpool
what i said..howdy red
yes, what cross said. Hi all.
days like this I wish I could get a sneak peak to the next grid...and get a jump on it.
Myabe tomorrow will be 400 words!!!
did anyone do today's listless? have 34 left and am debating it.
*31 ;)
i'm only halfway
i broached the subject with dr g of a 10x10 monthly grid with about 5000 words in addion to the regular grid..would keep people like gremlinn busy between flips;)
just need the left column E for NBT
NBT!
I got to about 22 left leslie before I listed, it was not fun at the end.
well star trek is now on, so I have a bit of a distraction.
i am just listing now at halfway,or it just will not get done in time;/
damn i'm having trouble finding all 6 of those M words
ah will take your word for it and list then, red
i have mi5/20 and mi4/7
clues for other Ms please?
mi6/33, mi7/48
mi4/5, mi5/22

yw
Heyas kids ..
TOR
GONE
howdy torgone
LIL
MONK
ey ..
how's it going tor
Not bad .. Kinda gloomy and rainy here ..
da7?
oh got it, nvm
beautiful and sunny here Tor, come on over!
dark ,raining and 11c here;/
On my way ..
hey all!
howdy lex
lexleeanne! clearly my doppleganger.
Heya lex
my daughter has been complaining because she wants to wear sweaters and it's too hot in Wilmington -
how has everyone been - I am supposed to be doing homework but had to chime in
apparently I scared you all away - BOO!
i called you my doppleganger ;)
WHAT is that LA?
like my evil twin :)
leslieann - lexleeanne
LA and LA
you need more e's
:)
acccck! run!! it is the evil twins!!!!...aaaaaaaaaaa!
okay word wizards....wanna help me with homework?
and neither of us need any y's!
need a word that is SWSW (strong syllable weak - strong weak) like Ravioli
and the opposite WSWS like capitulate
hmmm, so would situation be SWSW?
yes!
automobile
oh maybe WSSW
oh good point.
hello i'm back
howdy back
od6?
;)
the most strange
oh got it, the most weird
LA - I think Automobile works
WSWS is harder.
nice clue cwossy
lol ty lilm
I also need WSWW
habilitate
conceptual
WSWW - like harmonica
fartknocker
thanks monkey my prof will love that one!
wiffleball
hahaha monkey
malapropism
okay monkey - stop the drinking
wiffleball fits where?
monkey they have to be 4 syllables
who knows
wiffleballier
let's try WWSW
ly5?
like readjustment
what is all this WSW stuff
not you monkey - you take a nap
Weak syllable Strong syllable
my homework
looking for the ly5
ly 5/16 ly + ***se and desist
thanks luv, fireworks!
WTG Leslie!
woo hoooooooo LA
SUPER happy cartwheels for my ET!
WWSW = readjustment - anyone?
thinking...
fluffernutter
need a SWW like serious
fluffernutter is pure genious.
WWSW = introduction
genius. whoops haha
I will use that one monkey
that's me, lil*monkey the genius
cumulus
genious is 2 syllables
gnocchi - would this be a ssws?
don't know how to say that cross
ahhhh, political debates, pre my regular tv show.... what a debacle.
thanks tor - will use that
g is silent heavy on the no soft on the cc and a hard finish on the i
seems like 2 syllables
neee-o-ki
cc = ch?
oooooh
i say it nyo kee
cc sounds like a k
ne-oh-ki
maybe that is closer
I will try that one in class tomorrow
mm maybe lil m,s is closer
nyo would be one syllable and kee would be one thus a 2 syllable word nee oh kee would be three
are you guys speaking Italian? can I help?
lex has it covered
No working on phonetic transcription and I am looking for words that fit certain categories - sure
okay guys is gnocci - 2 or 3?
ok, sounds interesting lex - I have a background in linguistics
gnocchi is 2
I am in a Communication Sciences and Disorders program
so this is about word stress?
so still need a WWSW like readjustment
yes JBV
lex, i suggested introduction
how about cinderella?
thanks monkey
yvw
how about WSW like spaghetti and WWS like inexact
crossy does not like 4 letter babblets, just keep mashing letters together until it clicks and it is still not a word that is actually used in everyday lingo:/
WSW = colonic
repossess
oh good one torgalicious
sorry crossy - I kinda took over
WSW = delicious
WSW = umbrella
how many do you need of each type?
thanks monkey and tor
wSw - vanilla
SWW = chocolate
just a couple
monkey we actually say chocolate in 2 syllables
not to worry lex,i am just bitching to hear myself anyways lol
wwS - absolute
true lexie
need one more WWS and then some 5 syllables or more
WWS = underneath
ooo and resolute
thanks
I can't say any syllables when I am eating chocolate as my mouth is full
haha, wuwu
5 - interactively
yup
... and it isn't polite
is that a word?
sorry, I've been playing Babble too long
I got aryepoglottic
can you guess what my other class is?
by the way, just wanted to address my pet peeve: there are NO Bs in supposedly
computational linguistics?
I hate that too monkey - I have a list like that
no ANATOMY - my nemesis
WSW inclement
anatomy is a great class, i loved it
liar
well lex, i am a phys therapist, and i already knew latin, so i loved it
what are you going to do with this word list, lex? have other students identify the W/S syllables?
this is SOOOOO hard - November 1st is my next exam - the laryngeal system - she had 100 points all fill ins and labeling and she is obtuse!
ooooh sorry to hear that lex :(
the word list is for us to work on stress with tomorrow in class - everyone has to have samples to transcribe and mark stress
I may GET To take anatomy again next year to replace what will probably be my first "C" in about 20 years
won't get into grad school with a C in anatomy. Working to be a SLP.
wow that's a great goal lex, hang in there... you'll be a great SLP
you'll do fine, lex - and I don't know if you're right about one C blocking you from grad school - are you sure about that?
I will graduate with my BS December 2011....Grad school is super super competitive!
like 30 slots for 200 apps
they usually look at GPA and GRE or MAT, etc.
I need to take the GRE soon
I only have a few options because I am not a young student who can just move to whatever school accepts me -
I see
gtg thanks for the info - my mom is calling
bye, lex - good luck
da7,44 please?
thanks

howdy blueheron]
hi ..
oh, blueheron, I just read your profile... my mom just became a hospice volunteer this year
such a wonderful thing to do ... I'm so proud of her
yes, it's very rewarding.
hi blue
my profile hasn't been updated in a while, but I will always remember the experience:)
Hi blue. LOVE blue herons!
hi lb
(((crossy))) I need a big hug:(
Judy, I saw a blue heron flying right over the bridge between L'ville and New Hope as I was on the bridge heading to work the other day
it was beautiful
hi Judy
Blue herons are so majestic
then this morning I drove by a field full of vultures... had to be at least 30 of them ... not quite as beautiful, but fascinating in their own way
they are strange aren't they?
kinda creepy in their own way.
I do like watching vultures, as they watch me, and I just have to hope they're not waiting for me to drop dead as I walk by
where do you live nrkii?
I'm in New Jersey, about 20 minutes north of Trenton
you?
crossy are you still here?
yuppers
oh, that's where all the vultures are...just kidding:)
Good evening to my fellow babblers! How is everyone?

I've had fried spam, not bad with a little mustard on it. When I was poor and single.
fried spam chunks and scambled eggs
yum...arteries are clogging, oh what fun!
how about spam and macaroni and cheese?
you just increase your salt intake to pump up the blood pressure and ram it through those pesky tight arteries;0

that's disgusting crossie. what pigs they were.

fireworks
Hooray for m9!!!!
Hi all. Well done M9. My last word earlier in the day was the prostitutes' male boss.
Hi, Jac
Hi Jellen.
I didn't like ending on that word, since it's a word that describes men who prey on weak women and get them onto drugs so they will do whatever.
Understandable, Jac...
thank you. My last word was scottish for rare; occasional. I have tried sending this a bunch of times.. maybe if I make it longer it will go.
ty jellen and m9 hi jac...running off to bed now...helped brother move so a bit tired still...niters all poofy!
yeah.. i don't like that one either.
I don't have a problem with the oldest profession in the world, except that as long as women need to feed and clothe their children, it will happen. But I do have a problem with the fact that, even in to6/27 enlightened world, it still applies.
'Night MPT! Sleep well.
zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
Men will be men, I suppose, and I don't dislike men. But I do dislike the fact that men still seem to run the world and still let women be treated that way. At least if prostitution was legalised, as in Amsterdam, things might get a little better for the women in that 'industry'.
there's a lot of things that are silly to be illegal, like pot for instance. (no, i do not smoke pot, i just think our drug laws are stooopid)
But I still don't ccept the almost worldwide thought that 'men have needs'. Ys, of course they do, just like women do. However, I don't think the male run world has got over the old idea that when a castle or fort is overrun and defeated, that they kill all of the men and 'show the women what soldiers are made of'. It makes me sick.
Gwen - I'm not that in favour of pot, to be honest, because it can cause mental problems.
agree, jacula. if that is a valid excuse, then i have a need to rob a grocery store and steal all the vegetables
Having said that, an excess of alcohol, cigarettes and other legal drugs can do the same.
as long as ahcohol is legal, pot should be legal, and of course properly regulated, like booze is
Jacula, prostitution is not the oldest profession, that would be gardening.
i thought the oldest profession was a bakery lol
Christine - LOL. I think you might be right. After all, a gardener must have grown the apple that eve tempted Adam with.
I'm overly slow tonight - didn't get the bakery post.
Now a bakery is just outright prostitution... there you are, calmly walking to work when you pass the bakery... the smell of baking bread is so beguiling.
we have a bunch of nutcases running for office right now who want to criminalize abortion, yet they say they're against "big gubmint"
have y'all read Little Bee, by Chris Cleave?
don't get me started . . .
Not me, Christine. Sorry!
Not related to the chat, exccept maybe it is, in a way. Read it today, loved it
have heard nothing but good things about it, christine :-)
Hi, Une, Gwen, and Christine...
hey, jellen :-)
hiya jellen!
Sorry - should say hello before barging into the chat. You'd think I wass raised by savages?
same here, christine -- just drop in out of the blue :-)
hey, i barged it just a few mins ago, no prob 8-D
Hey all. I'm hoping for a big grid at the flip. C'mon 350!
Hi, hpb
if the next grid is small again ill go cry seriously
btw reminder to all of you to wear purple tomorrow! :)
yeah, me too, cos. Why purple?
"stop bullying against gay students"
purple??
due to the 8 suicides in the last month
I wore purple yesterday and on Saturday. I'll probably be wearing it later, but not in memor of the 8 boys who comitted suicide.
oh, yeah, i saw that one tv, but they said pink, i thought (was at a store, did not hear much)
Gotcha. **pulling out purple shirt**
im not going anywhere tomorrow so ill have on a ratty purple t shirt lol
Pink is the Friday school colour for breast cancer awareness.
diff colors in diff places, no doubt
I don't think schools should be telling pupils to wear colours for various things.
Being a teen is enough stress for any kid, being gay, and feeling alone and different, must be almost unbearable. Especially if you don't have the support of your parents.
jacula its not school imposed
ooh, found all the 7s at last
not the school, it's a student movement
chrstine. t hank u.. i had to experience that it wasnt easy
cosdem - it is at my Stepdaughter's school her in UK!
then thats wrong!
Yes, cosdem, I feel that it is.
i disagree with imposing what kids should wear, if they dont agree with the idea of homosexuality it's their right. as much as i dislike that lol
or breast cancer or whatever
I'm thinking, too, just being the parent of the average teenager isn't always easy, and the parents probably had a different idea how the kid's life would be ...
Neither myself nor my stepdaughter disagree with the idea of homosexuality. The things is, being TOLD to wear a colour.
i know jac i wasnt implying that
i was just saying...
Freedom means having the choice to NOT support something, even if it seems an obviously good thing, to the rest o us.
Cosdem - I know.
exactly christine

woah. that is annoying as all get out.
Goodness, m9!
But I'm not sure that schools, or teachers, should even suggest this to pupils of high school age.
