Hey Rose - that's how I've always written it! Love to play with words!
liz, so does DH...but he puns them, like ruru does. life is one big chuckle here.
too tired -- if someone can give me a clue for the lower M and the * I'd go to bed happily, I think...
Here too - we both play with words and pun!
that's the 8
I don't have that m jill but have both 8s!

now for an 8 -- I see they are gr and st but that's as far as I gat -- help, please, before I fade into oblivion
st 8 - flower stalk + feeling ***r* after lots to drink! Might be too obscure!
gr 8 - go in kids' ears to help when they're blocked. Different first vowel to the one I'd normally use.
Both gr 8 and st 8 have the same double consonant in the middle.
well, I got the flower stalk and ceretainly should get the ***r* because that's my condition tonight after the Happy Hour(s) at my place which lasted 5 hours...
Sounds like fun!
ta, lizlin, got the gr and the double consonant got me the other. :) Evening, jilli
yw :)
hi dc -- it's pretty late for you, n'est-ce pas?
hey dcs!!!
I have no idea what would go in kids' ears when they are blocked
ah, got the st8 anyway! I'm far from ***r* after this evening -- just exhausted!
g + hesitation + one more of that consonant + HRH queen LIz + plural
I guess it was the teacher in me - letters from parents - my kid's had gr 8s put into his ears! lol!
Think of Wallace and GR*****. Just change the first vowel:)
gr 8 - missed a letter - sorry. gr + hesitation
ty heron - much better!
So obvious too!

ah -- got that gr8 at last -- tyvm heron -- nbs now too

Yay Jilli - sorry my clue was so obscure! :)
yay, jilli, nice job

ty Rose
Go back to that ending jilli for a gr 7!

how silly of them, BabbleRabble. It seems like a very clear order to me.
Bzz, I am not a big TV watcher. What sort of show is it?
How silly to ignore such a simple request!
There are two sisters from Sri Lanka and they call each other Twinnie.
Ah, okay.
i've never played the lottery - annie and i are twinnies - as we were ignored in the chog - no matter what we said or asked....we're Jewish

In a fit of uncharacteristic decisiveness, President James Buchanan tried to buy Cuba. However, his plans ground to a halt when Congress refused to give him the dough to purchase the island, believing that the president would take the money and skip the country.
Certainly did not mean to ignore ..... I have neve purchased a lottery ticket
LOL!!!! Nice one Crossy!
didn't ignore you... asked after you :)
Probably figured anyone who got stuck in a tub was not trustworthy
lol crossy, that is cool
Wasnt Buchanan an alcoholic?
we were ignored a long long time ago....way long ago - prob so in 2008 or before it was funny - we carried on a total conversation w/ one another

I know, crossy, old news. But I hug you anyway, grin.
crossy never turns down a hug
very true, ren :) B good ;)
((((hugs)))) all around!
Very well put, ren...we are all in this together and should act accordingly.
I. am. out. of. coffee.
ouch car! *hands car a fresh cuppa*
So.go and.get.more....LOL
lol Mimi
That would require getting out of my pj's and going out in the rain.
:p
Oh, you mean REALLY out!!
YES!
crossy does not do coffe car,but here have a nice cuppa tea.i do it wales vally styl,in a big porcelain mug and strong enough that you have to wrestle it for the tea spoon;))
that stinks car - i thought you meant your cup was empty
Oh Crossy!! Good idea! I DO have tea! BRB....
i do juice - i was given a box of black pearl tea - it is really good
there we go:))
I'll dedicate my second cup of tea to you, car. I use Creme Brulee Coffee Mate in mine, English style.
I use strong tea to clean battery terminals
mine is ceylon orange pekoe
i like the fruity herbal teas
I don't do strong tea. I prefer herbal tea and not too strong. In case of chamomil, a bit of honey is appreciated.
That certainly creates a disturbing body image, BR!!
and diet coke rab? i love diet coke too - makes me rather hyper
i can also offer earl grey, but i find it kind of,pale and whimpy in taste
e
i also love green tea w/ lemongrass
brb need to do mezzer's meds for the day
i know that green tea is very very good for you,but i just cannot get into it
see you soon, ren
Has anyone heard about the new weight-loss craze using green coffee...Dr. Oz even recommends it. I'm game!
The label says "English Teatime" but the word "invigorating" is on it, so it should work!
Bye Ren! Take care!
Bye, ren (hugs)
now you are all set car;)
green coffee?
fireflies
Yep...comes in capsule/pill form.
lol, crossy was envisioning a big mug of green coffee...
WEll done Sprite!!!
Sprite, what does the fireflies mean?
Put some cheese in the coffee and leave on the counter indefinitely
yaaa for sprite!!
Tea...fuzzy slippers...babble friends...YES! I am all set!
Love cozy, car!
Mimi, it means I have fireworks, or have finished the grid.
BabbleRabble... gross!
yay car.ee, good going. Sounds cozy!
I was hoping it meant halfway so sometimes I could celebrate....oh, well.
They are winged beetles, and commonly called fireflies or lightning bugs for their conspicuous crepuscular use of bioluminescence to attract mates or prey.
: )
Most of us probably caught them in jars as kids.
Are there any MY words?
you can celebrate anything you like, Mimi! Nbt = no blank tiles; nbs = no blank stats, minimal nbt is nbt in the least amount of words. Halfway point is celebrated too. And you can design your own celebration goals :)
none, car.ee
no
Than I shall stop trying them!
lol BabbleRabble. I love the language!
Morning folks
Hello Mr. Bob!
hi Mr Bob
Morning, Mr. Bob.
Sprite, I'm lucky just to complete the goals I must complete in life...not ambitious enough to have goals here!! Such an underachiever!!
and fireworks = firewords = firebirds = fireflies. It is all the same.
Mimi, nothing wrong with playing just for fun. That is the point, isn't it :D
It is for me, sprite....and the best part is being able to be in this community and chat with such interesting and totally terrific people.
Hi all, my tuppence worth, I play every day and aim to get half way through. Set your own target
ok, off I go. Might go back to bed, just upped the dosage of the new meds and am sleepy and dizzy. But not as ill as when I started them, so all good.
Hi xeiluj!
amen to that, Mimi!
Bye Sprite! Have a great day! {[hugs}}
Hi and well done Sprite!
Go get some rest, sprite {{hugs and more hugs}}

hi brookie
morning all!
morning sue
hi wv!
how are both of you today?
we are ok, wv, planning to go to the winter farmers market at our UU fellowship today (it's only 1/2 mile from our house so not a strenuous journey)
it will be good to get out
i was just going to say thast it will feel good to be out
:-)
what kinds of things do they have there
crafts and local meats, cheeses, eggs, baked goods
we are in farm country so sometimes we are able to get organic beef and lamb there
nice to be in farm country
and one of our members is a professional chef so she always has very yummy things
especially nice to be in farm country an hour outside a major city - best of both worlds
all we are missing is mountains and oceans :-)
yes - our church is having their cookie sale today - 100s of varieties of cookies available - up too late last night doing my baking and then had to get up early to take grandson to robotics tournament
but you have the GReat Lakes
grew up with a summer house in Michigan and have had several trips driving around the lakes
we do indeed! The Chicago shore is actually quite beautiful (just too cold to swim 9 months out of the year)
ah, that must have been fun!
meanwhile I am having absolutely no luck with the lone m under the middle.
don't have it either - thought i had NBT but then found that i don't have that M
keeps building off the other M
oh well, I only have 31 words so far so plenty to work on :-)
me 5/12 used to measure your electrical usage
oh, for heaven's sake. Where is that fish? Slap me now!!
thanks, luv!
now i really do have NBT - yes it was a big fish
thnx LUV

yes, black lab/standard poodle mix
70 lbs, 7 years old, totally puppy still :-)
OH no! I thought she would calm down a bit by then. lol
her name is Sera, so she appears in the grid occasionally
well, ours was apparently raised on a farm; we got her about 2 years ago
Lily also appears occassionally
You missed the completely, tear your hair out puppy period.
indeed we did. Although you never know exactly what you are getting when you adopt an adult dog; we really lucked out with her. She is a sweetheart.
brb
anyone have the fr 6/33 and the fr 7/48?
working on them now...
It's a body part that limits movement like what's under your tongue
fr+vowel+ 'math is a combination of ***bers'
a piece of chocolate??
got it - thanks
are we back to Monica again?
it is frequently in the grid in plural form I don't remember ever seeing the singular
LOL *groan* good morning ruru
bloody hell! bye
lol TO get over yourself .. it was just a joke
what makes you think i am addressing you and not what is happening in reality?
sorry, just the timing of your comment.
and if i were wqhat would give yo the right to be so uncivil?
that is rherotical. and now to attend to reality.
good luck
be nice, you two! Don't make me come over there!
Second that uusue! How are you today and how is Frank?

Im managing, river, thank you. sorry to hear you have been unwell, glad to hear you are on the mend!
Hi River
how is you son liking school this year?
the et 6 is a poetic term
why can't "retee" be a word? I tried to hit my golf ball, but the wind blew it off the tee, so I had to retee before I could swing.....
never did like poetry...lol!
he is completely and utterly happy river.
how is your son doing?
lone m is me5,12 length
my son is great. Had a stunning soccer season - his first playing varsity and they made it all the way to the semi finals. he is now on ski team. That kid never stops. He is bummed right now because he wants to go snow boarding but it is raining. My daughter had to switch art schools this year because hers closed quite suddenly in May. She is really enjoying her new school. Does not like being in a city though but she does love the school and all her new friends.
Thats great Trif about your son!
so glad to hear they are both doing well!
juuuust starting the college process with secondo. She wants to go to the university of Hawaii - well, who wouldn't!
University of Hawaii? Mmmm
: ( Always sad to hear about an art school closing.
I know! I couldn't get her out there once, let alone once or twice a year!
one of my friends went to graduate school there - it is a good school
me
University of Hawaii, that is
car.eeyore went there for a year, and she loved it. Seriously, how bad would it have to be before anyone could hate it?
she has actually been selling some of her work - water colors mostly....she is editor in chief of her own photo magazine
Hi Haz
hi haz, me too!
fantastic river!!!
It always makes me laugh, how kids think we are made of money. : )
Anyone have stats for the top row e, pls
I have an er 4.6 from that e bichon
and then an en 5 and en6
River that is great. Good for her!
wow Trif - I think that will be harder on you having her so far away
Looking out on the 3 inches of snow that fell last night, many of the s words are making me chuckle...
U of Hawaii would be great! But that is a very big city...
ty Trif
dear elizabeth's brain - the word menu is not in the grid today. Please stop typing it. Thanks

Hello, Sue
hi BR!
What is going on in your profile pic, Sue?
multiple exposures of the full moon rising
thanks
Hope you and Frank are doing well.
you can't see it in my profile but if you go to apod.nasa.gov you can see Jupiter next to the moon
we are improving, BR. I am on a new medication and Frank is healing. One of our friends walked the dog this morning and another one just picked up my laundry. I have amazing friends.
Good people have good friends. Good for you.
Ah, that is very sweet, BR.
Saw Jupiter rising too.
:-)
last fo 6, please?
Did you think when this started you would be seeing your doctors when Frank was seeing his?
fo 6 -- shape: fo** + an old record: vin**
nope, I thought I would be fine. Silly me.
ty babrab
I thought, I've been to graduate school! I have a child! How hard can it be to care for my sweetheart as he fights cancer?
gu5/24 please
But I am older now, and the emotional stress is different.
bear candy, medusa
what is up with you, sue?
sticky, medusa
der me! thanks
stress, mostly, Leslie - my blood pressure is too high and I have aches and pains everywhere (may be fibromyalgia acting up)
yes i heard you went to the hospital and was worried - assumed it was stress-related
I have discovered that if you go to walk-in care and say I am so exhausted I can hardly stand up, and dizzy, and some of my pain is in my chest, you wind up in the hospital getting a stress test
Being a caregiver is an endurance test .... just have to make your well-being a priority or burnout can take you down.
so now I know my heart is fine :-) but I am still exhausted and in pain
yes. i have a history of stress-related issues (anxiety attacks etc.) so it sounded like that's what it was
I mean, hell, I used to run 7 miles before breakfast (no, really!), so how hard could this be? Never mind that was 25 years ago, and not the same anyway
however it is good to know that my heart is strong. The rest of me I can deal with.
remember to breathe. it's cliche, but true. deep breathing does wonders
yes, I have been working on that. Also thinking calming thoughts, and appreciating nature, especially when out in it with the dog :-)
anyway we are going to go out for a bit, be back later!
bye sue
*!* ta da *!*
congrats nan
hello all ;)
WTG nan!!

Question: Do people still send "Christmas letters" (the newsy things about every tiny detail of what the family has done that year)?
lol....I have 1 cousin that does.
Why, did you receive one?
No, we were discussing them at lunch and given the fact that most people don't even send cards anymore, I was surprised to hear that the letter thing was still going on.
She is the only person left I know of that still sends them.
Most of my family, myself included, still send cards though.
meets
sorry!
that's tough way to un-lurk P
It's okay Jeff, we know you're out there. : )
Just popping in to put my vote....I send cards every year mostly to stay in touch with family and friends that are not on internet.
Now poofing out again....
You poof right in and you poof right out, You poof right in and you shake it all about. You do the Babble drive-by and you turn yourself around, That's what it's all about.
lol....came back just in time for Mollys' little ditty
clicked on your icon but your changed it ( love the new one by the way) looks like a little old man dancing to your song
poofin' out again :) gotta go make a chocolate cheesecake
awful lot of poofing going on around here
got over 1300 on todays puzzle, but the 1st part of my list is missing. How can I find it? My score for those words is gone, too, but it won't let me enter them again.
try refreshing your browser
worked..thanx
yw :-)
i was wrong...Have 767 so far. oops
oh well - you can also try closing and opening your browser, rebooting, opening the game using a different browser or device ....
Morning everyone
hi lynxxx!
Gosh its 2pm in ID
3 pm in IL :-)
Hi Sue, just reading your updates as haven't seen you for a while. Don't pretend to understand all of it, though I bet you have become a medical specialist by now. Looks like a poor outcome, but at least it is 'years' and they make research/progress all the time so Frank will be around to benefit. (and it's amazing how low the odds can get and you can survive) How are you both feeling/coping?
hi lynxxx, we are ok so far. I had a bit of a collapse last week and spent a couple of days in the hospital myself (unnecessarily IMHO but when you go to the walk in clinic and say you are exhausted and your chest hurts they insist on checking out your heart)
Frank will probably start chemo next week assuming his incision heals (which reminds me I need to fuss with it a bit in the next hour or two)
Not anything dire I hope? just stress and exhaustion?
I am learning to let other people do an awful lot of things, like cooking and laundry
exactly, lynxxx, also my blood pressure is too high, no surprise there
I am sure all your friends would rather do the cooking and laundry and not tend to Franks incision! lol
true enough!! :-) hadn't thought of it that way!
he's sleeping now, though, so I will let him rest a bit
firewords! tx all cluers. st7 breastbone was my last
congrats Dan!
yay dan!
and thanks for the st7
2 little girls Dan?
breasts have bones? I didn't know
how's the scores coming. I'm feeling pretty good about 833 points
hi Ru
hi Jerry - welcome to Babble, addictive isn't it
hi ruru and jerry!
lynxxx that's miss2bit and her cousin, 6 months younger
Thanks, lynxxx I like the tile stats, but some of these words I never heard of.
get used to it jerry
when you are totally frustrated Jerry you can discover the joys of Lickety and Morewords
even after you've been playing for years, Jerry, there will be many words you have never heard of
ok, friends coming over to walk the dog, bbl
bye Sue
top re5 please
ttfn sue

hiya welki
welki's request: give someone a hug today, tell them you love, like, miss them - do something silly - any or all of these things. two funerals in one week is enough to humble even me
so sorry welki...very awesome request, something we should all remember to do every day
Hard week :( But there's also positive stuff - new generations - my friend's daughter was one yesterday (your today) - I remember when my friend was born!
{ welki }
But as smores says, an awesome request - something to always remember to do.
thanks - and you're right, liz, good things are happening, too :)
maybe i should be thinking of 'the guff of souls' - up goes one, down comes one :)
Sometimes when things seem overwhelming, it's too easy to forget the positive stuff :)

Welcome to Babble Jerry :)
Am going to have PF Chang's Teriyaki Chiken Spring Rolls for dinner with a sesame-ginger dipping sauce--yum, especially for frozen.
sounds good Mimi
I'm rewarding myself after being totally exhausted and stressed out for the past few days.
maybe your weekend be relaxing and stress free :)
Dinner is currently in the oven and I know it will be ready om a half hour.
Guaranteed--thanks. I've learned to let go of things and take mini vacations from stress. It's a skill I'm hoping to teach when I begin doing therapy.

My eldest tells me not to worry about ever getting Alzheimer's because they won't be able to tell the difference.
What a horrible thing to say to you, Mimi.
Hey, that's one of the better things lately....won't even go there.
Hi bea!
Hi all.
good thing is when true senility happens, you will not know it:))
Yes, hello, dear!
I told my daughter once that I hope I live long enough to become a burden to her.
Can't get wu4, any new clues?
I've told mine that too.
told my son that i hope he gets married and has twins just like him
Ends in a double consonant, kenny
Rhymes with kitty cat, Kenny
slang for coward
Try another word for wimp for w4, Kenny
Ha, my son has already told me he doesn't want kids like himself
kenny has been clue bombed!!
I've said this before--Oprah had the right idea. Never marry, have a great career, lots of money and raise dogs!
Still lost!
wu 4/9 word rhymes with P*** in Boots Kenny Chuck and hi
Hi, Min!!
When you get to the u, Kenny, head south, then southeast
And hi min!
wu 4/9 word rhymes with Pu** in Boots Kenny Chuck and hi
GOT IT!!!!!!1
Yay Kenny!
Hello MimiCat and uueu2! How are you? Was trying to lurk.
As long as you're not a wu4 about it!!!
It can be hard to lurk around here, min
No lurking---must join the party!
Ok MimiCat, but you mu 4/6 join party in the Penalty Box.
No funny little blue people in the grid today....sad.
I think I have been babbling too much. I found myself looking at my on screen keyboard and trying to make words.
hi nodded,now I'm back
Hi scrambler!

if you want to know the mindset of people at a single dinner party always lay out some after eight mint wafers and some mint sticks.their choice will tell you the more adventurous
singles
all for now. Have pleasant evenings.
so which is more adventurous, the wafers or the sticks?
and good night, gmere!
the sticks
ah. well, I will keep that in mind the next time I want to appear adventurous :-)
well the next time you wish to thin one from the herd anyways
lol
I don't think you can get the mint straws in the US yet.
and that is it for crossy.i wish you all a good night and make sure you hug someone before you go to bed tonight
..poink!
actually I found, when I was single, that telling men I was a physicist was a pretty good filter
night, crossy!
Filters are subjective.
Good evening Babblers
Helen Fisher, a prominent anthropologist known for her research on attraction and love, believes three minutes is all you need to know whether someone will be in your life for a while.
Hi Wht
That long RB?
Or BR
http://tinyurl.com/adpdvan
BR, I was convinced about love at first sight when our first child was born.
His perspective on love (in The Road Less Traveled) is that love is not a feeling, it is an activity and an investment. He defines love as, "The will to extend one's self for the purpose of nurturing one's own or another's spiritual growth" (Peck, 1978/1992,[6] p85). Love is primarily actions towards nurturing the spiritual growth of another. Peck seeks to differentiate between love and cathexis. Cathexis is what explains sexual attraction, the instinct for cuddling pets and pinching babies cheeks. However, cathexis is not love. All the same, true love cannot begin in isolation, a certain amount of cathexis is necessary to get sufficiently close to be able to truly love. Once through the cathexis stage, the work of love begins. It is not a feeling. It consists of what you do for another person. As Peck says in The Road Less Traveled, "Love is as love does." It is about giving yourself and the other person what they need to grow. It is about truly knowing and understanding them.
You had me so distracted thinking about Peck that I didn't notice I had found my last word until the fireworks started.
yay wht!
Congrats
Congrats, wht!!!!
How are you feeling today, gapeach?
BR, for me, it didn't take 3 minutes....one second. 54 years ago I was at a dinner party and was introduced to someone and the second I looked up I knew I didn't have a chance. I still love him...but the years have softened the "burning" kind of love.
Hi there, BabbleRabble. I'm still feeling so much better......almost afraid to believe it LOL.
Congratulations, gapeach. How wonderful.
Peach, that's so sweet. It's like "Some Enchanted Evening".
I spoke with Peck's secretary some years ago and I asked her what kind of a person he was to work for.....she hesitated a second or two and said, "He's a man".
Yes, Molly, it was indeed.
That was a loaded answer you got Peach. : D
Peck was quite controversial.
Yes, I resemble that comment.
Yes, Molly. I believe it was.
Most people know Peck for "The Road Less Traveled". I think "People Of The Lie" was one of his best books.
I've not read that one, Molly. I will try to get a copy.
Clue for the FR 6/36, please/thanks!
oops fr 6/33:3
I learned some things from Peck. His discussion of transference spoke to me. His definition: Transference is the set of ways of perceiving and responding to the world which is developed in childhood and which is usually entirely appropriate to the childhood environment (indeed, often life-saving) but which is inappropriately transferred into the adult environment.
fr6 is what holds the tounge tot he bottom of the mouth.
fr6 = fr + vowel + my feet get ***b when they are cold
I agree, BabbleRabble. The song "Get Over It" by the Eagles just came to mind.
or f + you must *****ber the list if you lost count.
tyvm everyone!
nbt and hi y'alls
Sometimes the thought of changing from perceptions and responses that may have saved your life is overwhelming, despite knowing you are in a bad place.
♪ I'd like to find your inner child ♫ and kick it's little ass, get over it ♫ Henley and Frey nailed it with that lyric.
look out grammar police! lol
Pardon the misplaced apostrophe. Poor nits, getting picked again.

Get over it, Molly. :^)
Telling someone with a mental disorder to "get over it" is a major part of the shame the victim of the disorder feels.
oh no i am so offended! (joke!)
Gwen, I don't think either you are Molly have a mental disorder. Except perhaps Babble addiction.
oh, i have plenty 8-D
unless you ask an "expert" ha ha ha
Hey, I have Babble Expert. What do you want to ask it?
Time to end the melancholy. Sorry to have started it.
Don't be sorry RB. I enjoy a change of pace in the chog.
Hello to my fellow babblers! How is everybody doing today
By the way, congratulations to all the finishers! Way to go!
howdee min!
Hello, Minveryork. Nice to see you.
It's ok BabbleRabble......I get really down sometimes and I have to know that I will pull myself up, once again.
I have friends who use me as a sounding board also...I go directly into a "fix-it" mode....and as I keep listening I realize that all they want me to do is listen.
i have a certain syndrome which includes what is sometimes called bad "people skills" -- i like to chat on the web where i don't really need "people skills"
That's me Book Doctor Gwen!I'm not a people person at all
ga, I thought that was something only men did.
Good one, wht!!!
right now the "experts" are arguing about what to rename the particular syndrome i have
OK, need peanut butter.....brb
then of course there are womens with "male brains," and mens with "woman brains"
How does acute Babblephilia sound?
I vote we call it book doctor syndrome... *relurk after hugging those who want hugs*
(looks serious, scratches head)
Hello stidmama! How are you doing? Welcome to the chog.

Hello Lizlin! How are you doing? Welcome to the chat log.
Hello artlady! How are you doing? Welcome to the chat log
oh gee, thanks for that lovely clue, wht!
Wow!! I haven't been babbling for 2 years?? other than in real life.
S's Stabbed! 5 left
now I have NBT/NBS, etc etc.
I thought we hadn't met before, artlady - nice to meet you!
Glad to hear you did it. stiddy, sorry to hear no job yet.
I also live near Chicago...
Back to make a start on the last 20 words!
Hi Liz. I played many years ago, but have been away for a very long time. I'll have to check my profile--it probably needs updating!
oh! hey lizlin! how are you this fine day?
yw stid. Sometimes I think my clues like that will only make sense if you already have the word.
still can't figure out the gr8
Things are fine here - hope you're all enjoying the weekend :
gr 8 - double consonant in the middle and a plural
no job is okay, artlady, I am learning far more from subbing than I did in my graduate classes... *wicked mama grin* It's far more entertaining, too!
F's Fumbled! 3 left
pl of the gr7
gr8/65 word is plural of the gr 7/48 word if you have word
Yikes! My profile hadn't been updated in 4 years! Stiddy, you get props for enjoying subbing. It's challenging! Ok, barely started this one, better get back to it. Luck all!
ah, thanks liz and wht, got them both
gr7 is one of those little metal holes in a flag, that you put the rope through (spelled wrong)
go min go!
Hi there Lizlin. I was getting my peanut butter fix when you came on.
down to 51 won't finish, but sure glad I decided to play today.
mmmm. peanut butter... *hungry mama look*
A gr 7/48 sort of rhymes with a musical instrument uusue2.
Does subbing mean supply teaching? That is filling in for sick or absent teachers?
Hi gapeach
Love peanut butter - hubby's making lunch right now - he's wonderful!
*trip* *upright again and dusting self off* Hi all...
yes, Liz
Hi there, Pini.
jeez, the gr7 really is the tarp holes misspelled. Sigh.
PINI!!!!!! *hauls out the rhinestone camo and glitter ball*
hi, pini! Haven't seen you in a while!
* giggle * Hiya stid!
hi sue! :)
OK - was a UK teacher for 30 years. We called it supply teaching!
yepper!
yes, lizlin, that's my "job" -- I work for about 20 different schools, depending on who calls me first in the morning. :-)
I'm done! I have fireworks! em 6/24 word was my last one.
One of these days I hope to get a chance to do more than a few days in a row, to "prove" to myself and others that I am capable of writing my own lessons as well as following other peoples' directions.
yay min!

Congrats!
Wow! I couldn't have done that! I liked building the relationship with my class. Mind you, no report writing is always a bonus!

Hello Pinikula! How are you doing? Welcome to the puzzle.
how about the em 6/24? Thanks! :3
Congrats, Min!!!!
Stid--every sub up north burbs?
hi min ;)
LOL and that one "perk" of not having to grade many papers or plan for the next day is nice, I go home, put my feet up and fall asleep early. I get calls as early as 5 am sometimes, so I try to ensure a minimum of 7 hours' sleep.
Sorry, ever, not every
had just set my monkeys to work on that, scrambler!
artlady, I am on the West coast...
sorry--mixed you up with Mama Bear. Name's so similar...
:3
no problem -- I love being confused with Mama Bear, she's lovely. :-)
The em 6/24 word is plural of the em 5/15 word scrambler
hey scrambler! your name always makes me think of omelets...
8-)
ooh I have that
and thanks for the EM 5/6
tyvm!!!! :3
obviously I don't have the right em5 either
I'm with you, sue
em5,14. A man's name.
There is a great oyster bar in Seattle that is named for a scruffy old curmudgeon who wrote for the Seattle PI, only a slightly different spelling. Mr Watson was a state treasure... Took Ciocia Judy there when she visited a few years back.
thx wht
ok, got them, thanks!
Yes, A famous clown!
One reason why I took early retirement was because teh amount of work I had to do at home, over the weekend was becoming ridiculous!
apparently it is actually an ant. Go figure.
I hear you, liz! I retired early as well...
I hear you, Liz. I'm out June 2014.
:3
Are you on one of the Illinois public retirement systems, artlady? I'm on SURS, and it is scary - hoping I have locked in some benefits by retiring already...
Indeed, Lizlin -- teaching is becoming more and more based on documentation and less and less on "teachable moments" -- but there are still a few places where teachers have some say, where children's needs are more important that covering one's posterior.
It's wonderful! Having time to do whatever I want! I'm sure that anyone who's taken early retirement agrees! I've no desire to go back to teaching, though i have been asked, since we moved here.
TRS. BTW, Sue, my master's was from NIU!
That's the other advantage to subbing -- I can see and hear for myself how different districts run things, before I get hired!
nice, artlady!
Those are the best places stidmama! Put the kids first.
:-) My mother loved teaching, but is glad to have retired, she has so much time now to do the other things she loves.
The state is doing another run at pensions during the lame duck session. Sigh. I have to leave in 2014--it's irrevocable (even if the state cuts my pension)
BBL - time for lunch :)
of course I retired from professoring and then came back to the dark side as an administrator :-)
later lizlin
bye liz!
I agree, stid. It's a great way to get some experience. My daughter subbed for a year, then got a job.
"defur" really really is a wurd, I have to do that every time I leave the house to work, thanks to my lovely coat-blowing dog
Bye Liz--enjoy your lunch!
wow artlady, I hate the sound of "irrevocable"
well, stid, I haven't done it to the dog enough and now have to do it to the house
I think I have enough fur to make several more dogs
Some teachers around here "double dip" by retiring and then teaching part-time elsewhere
Well, good night Babblers. I need to be off.
night wht
Sweet dreams, wht.
sweet dreams, wht. have a lovely rest of your weekend!
well, I am technically not double dipping as I am working for the same system I retired from, so they are only paying me a little bit so I can keep my pension
Goodbye wht! I'll see you tomorrow in the chat log maybe.
I need time to make art. That's the goal! (and Babble?)
night wht!
:-) art is good
indeed it is, stid! I think we lose a lot when we cut art and music programs from our schools
May I please have a clue for em4-8? Thanks
it involves the sometimes vowel, peach
ok, must go investigate an odd noise. brb.
That em 4/8 word has that sometimes vowel in it gapeach.
Our children are fortunate in the burbs to have art and music in the schools. It's getting tough, though, with all the budget cuts.
I was looking at some paper ornaments in the shop at the theater this afternoon, thinking that folding the paper (measurement, proportion), gluing in the right places (dimension, understanding directions), and coloring (visual expression) would be a great excuse to introduce art...
Thanks much, sue and Min.
Our local school still has music, but the art teacher who was WONDERFUL was relegated to an elementary classroom a few years back. So HER students got art, but the rest of the school had to shift for itself.
yw
Unfortunately, she had to leave a couple years ago. She was so generous helping other teachers think through how to do art and make it meaningful.
do not get me started on schools where they cut the music and art but the stinkin' football team never has to beg for money
ok, game on Frank's computer is making a sound like dripping water. (He is in the shower downstairs, speaking of dripping water...)
*grin* popcorn sales at football games often fund school dances...
oh man, stupid computer games (not like this one which is highly intelligent...)
I have a friend who was president of the Wash State art ed assoc, always battling for the students to have art in the schools.
well, at least this one doesn't make drippy noises :-)
Dripping computer game? Are you sure it's the computer? ;-)
I am. I checked carefully :-)
Gwen--love your image and am also interested in your book!
en5-10 please....thanks
aw, gee, thanks artlady! i still have plenty of the previous edition available, if you are interested in that one 8-)
I subbed for over a week, artlady, in my friend's high school art class. I was so happy to be able to talk to the kids about the intersection of art and the other things they were learning. And to hear their pride in the work they were doing... Art (and music) offer an expressive outlet for those kids who just aren't word-junkies like me.
en5 is variant spelling of en6, to place your name on the list to go to a school
en 5/10 word is same as en 5/18 word minus a letter gape
Some of us are junkies for all sorts of things (not just words!) Good things, of course...
Thanks so much, Gwen
Gwen--did you self-publish?
artlady, in this case, yes i did
I had an art student in my astronomy class once - she loved the book, and incorporated some of the imagery into her senior painting project - she brought it in to show me. Pretty cool.
that really is cool, sue
i'm stuck on re5/16, the first re word. hyalp!
I took a lot of astronomy in college--considered adding a physics minor to my art major (if they'd drop the 15 hours of calculus req), but it didn't work out.
adverb form of a color, gwen
also been published by "real" publishers, but that is not quite as fun
more rose-colored, maybe?
sue's clue is more accurate...
oh, lord, what a silly word! ty stid!
artlady, sue can explain physics so well that even *I* had an inkling of what she meant! And yes, I am STILL dreaming of the blue light, sue! LOL
(adding to my cheat sheet)
interesting, artlady! (I only took 6 hours of calculus as an undergraduate, but I did take another 6 hours of mathematical methods for physics...)
lol, stid! I'll have to come out there again and explain some more things :-)
I would love that! We'll make home-made sushi and jelly and talk science. :-) The menfolk can bake yummy things, and talk politics...
At one of our conventions we had a young astronomer talk about the intersection between her art and her science. Fascinating!
hmph. I have never heard of fr 4/10, "dance deriving from the twist"
I didn't have an issue with calculus, just didn't have time for that many more classes!
you're on, stid! As soon as Frank finishes chemo, which should also be about the time I actually retire
Stid, you're too young!
oh, I remember the fr4/10, stid!
I had a student who was doing independent calculus study at the high school this week -- needed help on a problem she couldn't figure out. I had her explain what she was doing, then pointed out she had reduced a fraction inaccurately at the very end. LOL she thought I was a genius! I just got lucky that time.
fr4 (the dance) is mentioned in at least 2 songs from the 1960s by Allan Sherman. it can also be a verb, as in fr***ing
Perfect! by then I should be able to clean up enough so you have room to sit down.
I remember one of the Johnson daughters doing the fr4/10 at the White House...
rofl, I bet the newspapers had a field day with that, "invasion of the new dance"
yes, it was quite the story
stid, most of the problems students have with calculus are actually problems with algebra (at least in calc 1)
well, down to 39 and my eyes just don't want to stay open. Going to head out before I make a complete fool of myself by falling asleep on teh keyboard. Have a lovely weekend, all -- and so glad to have seen you tonight, artlady! **hugs and choclits for all** *poof*
night, stid!
Hi again - and sleep well stidmama :)
As long as we're dancing down memory lane...I just watched two concerts on Netflix streaming....Queen and Michael Feinstein and have a Dixie Chicks one coming in the mail. Tell me my tastes aren't diverse!!! And, yes, I certainly remember the fr dance to which you refer!
one more for the win, i am stuck on fo 6/36, the last fo
Something you put paper in to file.
it's not far off from the fo5 before it
hmm, i think i got that one, if it rhymes with ol5
chemical
You got it, Gwen!
ok, I am off for the night as well, see you all tomorrow!
nice chatting!
fo6 is a chemical?
the 6/36

Yay Gwen :)

I'm stuck on the fo6-36, I've tried all the good clues but just can't see it.
Congrats, Lizlin!!!
Congratulations Lizlin on your fireworks display!Way to go!
ty
fo 6/36 sounds like kind of dress wear at prom or wedding
fo** + an old record: vin**
fo 6 / 36 - fo 4 /8 + Oh m* goodness + the first letter of my name

Hey there, ruru. Wondered where you were.
just got home.
making sure I finished the gird
grid
hi
dinner is omlettes tonight
I don't feel like cooking
Omeletts sound really good, ruru.
or even omlettes.
<---lazy
Naw, just a hard working man.
I have one left un6-21, please....thanks
I did a lot of driving today.. just don't feel like running to the store and going through the whole rigamaroll
un + dinner bun
Hey, I'm in favor of omlettes over take out slop any day.
or un + the last part of my sentence previously
<---doesn't do take out
Thanks much, ruru. See y'all at the flip.
Yay gapeach :)
congrats peach
hi molls
Poor Riga's ma, she gets rolled a lot.
Congratulations gapeach on your fireworks!Hooray for you
lol
or his sister mortis
:)
she's been a little stiff with him lately
Back there again!!!! :)
what?
nm
fingers working faster than brain!
riga mortis you mean
:)
it was a little play on molly's one liner
Yup - realised after I typed!
at least she doesn't blow up and leaves the chat
That'd be silly!
happens around here
I've seen that! You can always ignore something if it offends you! Don't have to stomp out!
bbl - good luck with the grid :)
exactly
exactly
one more time for good measure
Yep, it's as easy as turning off chat. More of that and less drama would be nice.
EXACTLY
That is one opinion
I love torgone'
I love TOrgone's write up
not to sweat the small stuff
Togone's profile sums it up very nicely.
Or Torgone's
i'm having trouble typing too
So torgone's insightful rule is a licence to offend people?
no.. it's a comment on not taking things personally and moving on if you read something that offends you
People who acknowledge offending people keep on doing it
A ton of harmless comments made here are taken out of context and blown up into meaningless problems
* permission to come aboard, plz *
Evening all :)
Oh please do Pini.
Hello, Pini
hiya pini
was just reading that last few posts...everything ok?
everything is fine with me
good to hear :)
we were discussing people needlessly getting upset here over nothing (in most cases)
still no snow, BR?
ru, do you ever get snow down there?
That is your opinion ... many do not participate because of comments known to be offensive and acknowledged so .... but they still go on.
Oh, been there, done that, ru...
rarely pini .. very rarely
* sigh of relief * thx ru! :)
then that's their choice BR..
and it is your choice to offend
I don't see it that way
Offend who?
You have said many times you offend people .... never stops you
* blink * ru? offend? * eyeing ru carefully * since when?
Sure.. sometimes my humor doesn't come off well.. and some people don't like it.. it moves off the board and then everyone can get on with their lives
Oh boy...16...
good luck art lady.. that's when it gets tough
I wonder if sometimes perceived offense is as a result of different senses of humor (among other characteristics)...just a thought?
hey, I have 53 left and it's tough now!
The point is you know you offend people ... but you do it anyway
that's my point pini
so do you
so what
br? offend? wow, I must be on here when most everyone is good
* diving back into grid *
I don't try to offend people intentionally actually. I like to joke around.. some people don't think it's funny.. that's their call.
This part of the chat I don't miss. Lighten up, folks! It's very difficult to "read" expression and nuance into typed characters. Bye.
fr6/33?
that's a tough one to clue pini
any double letters?
to call attention to bully rags to request some consideration for others is appropriate ..... the bullies just go on
you lost me BR..
fr6/33 word is fr plus vowel plus Murder By ***bers Pinikula
others who no longer chat have made it a lot clearer
thx min
But this is a waste of time .... those who need to call attention to themselves have no consideration
yw
50 even...I'm rockin' it now! (not)
last fo6?
ME ME ME -- oh, sorry, thought this was friendly, jolly old babble-chat. *eyes down, slinking out*
hi jwr
ho Pini
bye jwr
wb jwr
it usually is jwr .. for nice people
fe5/20 is not a word!
Sure, ruPaul, when you have said you know you offend people
* taking Koda out...back shortly *
clue please mu 5/16
fo 6/36 sounds like kind of dress wear at prom or wedding
2
If I offend someone here. I apologize to them in almost every case. I just don't see what you are driving at
go artlady .. go
mu 5/16 word is past tense of the mu 4/6 word scramber.
Believe it or not, I was just ducking in to see if it was a good time to introduce a coworker to the joys of the grid, with the added attraction of this worldwide wordfest on the side. Think I'll come back some other time. ... looking for an easy grid to start him on, too. Fat chance!
Hello jwr! How are you doing today? Welcome to the chog.
Go artlady go!
thanks min!
time to make some dinner.
bye everyone .. have fun
Msy I butt in? If rururocks offends someone, just skim over his comments. Let's all be friends, in Babbleland. Over and out
What a word to end on! the wu... First grid in years, needed a lot of help. Night all...Peace.
Oh, not specifically Rururocks - anyone that offends you, cut him dead.
Hmm, didn't notice any offending, too busy monkeying!
Hi Min. Don't have time to stay but have to mention that the game would not be half as interesting (much as I love it) without the "regular" punsters & accessory wordplay. Uh, I never, never lurk, of course. I'm just a very fast reader. Night all
The cowards way out .... let the acknowledged offender off
pooooof
No, that's being unkind - you want him to not offend, but when he leaves you're still not happy. Cheer up chum, life's too loong to spend it being unhappy.
You want all to spineless, fine
Incidentally, I like the prayer, on your profile.
I;m afaraid I can't reach you, Darlin'.
clue please: ru 5/20
Not your darlin
15 left ! :3
Okay, I've plenty more, but I wanted to make room for you, since you profile suggests you're in favour of harmony.
*your
I am but not by ducking people who openly acknowledge offending people
That ru 5/20 word is the card game Ru*** Tiles scrambler.
be well all .... how funny
tyvm min!
yw
babrab. I really don't think ru offends people deliberately at all. He makes jokes. If people take offense, he apologizes. And is acknowledging that. But I've found him to be a compassionate person with a wicked sense of humor, and the jokes sometimes go too far. But not malicious
Hello Christine! How are you doing today? Welcome to grid
Hello Dorens! How are you doing today? Welcome to chog.
Well, I'm trying (and failing) to smooth ruffled feathers. I refuse to be offended by anyone, 'cos I've learned to ignore offensive people. However, since certain people stopped playing, I don't find a lot to be offended by .... deep breath.
At one time., we had two people arguing over who was the first to hear of NB's death -- now THAT'S offensive, and I told them so - at which time I became the invisible woman on the chog. But, life went on.
this is sad. But I am mostly just playing the game lately. not enough time for chat, and when chat becomes petty arguing, it is time to ignore it.
back
That's how I feel - I'm here to play the game, alone if that's how it works. I give clues if I can, take notice of clues, but ultimately it's my game.
clue please the first re 4/4, and thank you! :3
re 4/4 is anagram of big plant with leaves on it scrambler.
re 4/4 is also anagram of another word for nap scrambler.
Just for the record, I didn't think it was petty of Ru to defend himself when he was being put down.
Okay, that was my last clue for the evening. Need to sleep
Goodnight to my fellow babblers! I will see you tomorrow.
Good night Min.
I like BabbleRabble AND rururocks. They've both made me laugh at times and have never offended me. Goodnight all
*POOF*
I hope BabbleRabble didn't leave; I really do want everyone to get along - as your Mother tells you 'play nicely together'
night min and tyvm
Goodnight, sleep well
* wishes this grid would finish itself *
Christine, I think you did a nice job of trying to calm troubled waters. If that wasn't accepted, it wasn't on you.
My last word is re 6/21 and I'm at my wits end. Can anyone help?
doesn't the plural of fr6 end in a and not s? It's latin, no?
pl the re5 before it?
No clue Rasta. And Enable doesn't play by the rules anyway.
Indeed it is. Sometimes the obvious has to hit you in the face. Many thanks. Fireworks.
wtg sally :)
<-- haven't clued in forever...glad to be of service :)
Thank you, Molly. I feel we're out in space, so it's easy to ignore someone, unlike sitting in the same room, and being offended. And, as someone pointed out, without seeing facial expressions, it's possible to misinterpret something that's said.
re 6/21 plural of re 5/12 or
I mostly lurk but I do feel that you tried very hard Christine to make nice with little return for effort. Ignoring disruptive behavior is the easiest way out. ;)
1st em5/14?
It is easy to ignore someone. Or the entire chat. Just turn chat off. It's just a chat log. Take what you like and leave the rest.
em 5/14 em + french word for sea
That's the ticket Molly.
The equivalent of sending kids to their room "when you can behave, you may come out, and play with us". Sort of sending 'em to Coventry.
thx scrambler...now just wish I'd learned french! :)
i agree, i feel badly for both as you know sometimes when the written word is not spoken it can be taken out of context!
em 5 - one who ems
Oh, great one knight time
Stunning, the way he got to the heart of it. Fabulous cluing.
hi knight!
It just seems redundant to complain about offensive people and then tell everyone who is trying to make peace and understand things that they are spineless.
hi knight!
<-- feeling like a wu4 cuz' I just ain't gettin' it...
Pinikula - think Charles Trenet, or Bobby Darrin
greetings all
I've been away too long and I'm incredibly rusty
Oh, you've already made your entrance.
I think they're before my time, Christine
Listen, I'm humming it, for you.
* putting ear to screen *
Nope, can't make it out...
Oh, that's just croool, saying I'm old - which I guess I am. But the alternative >>
I never said you were old!! lol
t's similar to the word for an ant (I think)
bug?
insect?
scary thing?
Well, two very good words.
* thinking *
(and monkeying)
got it!
no idea what it means, but I'll take your words for it!
you have the word that ends in T and one ending in R?
yup :)
Notice how I'm able to change tenses in a single sentence? Obviously an eduction well used.
:) you're awesome!
* can't believe I'm going to do this... * nudge for the em4 after the flightless birds?
(sidenote: if I finish this grid in the next 45 minutes, it will be the first in about a year!) *fingers crossed*
clue please: un 6/24
un + dinner bread
oops...my bad..wrong un5
* un6
please disregard my dilusional cluing

hey tor
2nd to last fe4?
french for party maybe?
A perty
*party
that's my next to last anyway, only down to 28 though
stid, I think you missed earlier when I said I wish I'd learned french... ;)
a purty pert party, tor? we might need more beer... ;-)
oooh, got it! :)
perty much ..
pas de francais, pini! think first part of the word that means the part above the horse's hoof fe*lock and end with a vowel
go pini go!
last fo6?
I was thinking it rhymed with je4 (ballet move)
I only have one fo 6, purty certain it isn't the last
there's an re4 in here somewhere that does that, too :)
ah, the je** has funny accent marks above the vowels. The party word has a "hat" above the first vowel only, the second is silent.
okay, I have another fo 6 now, fo** (shape) + double vowel
yeah, so much for my french skills...
have never seen them written formally so didn't know they had the accessories! :)
it is also a french word... LOL
time to add a class to your abundant fr** time, dear pini!
fo4/8 + Bob D**an
* banging head on table *
got it!
thx tor :)
oooh. nice clue, tor! now I have THREE fo 6s!
there are only 3 stid
clue for the st 6/18 last one! brain is fried! haha
good. I can be done with those. only four more F words (and probably all four-letter F words, too) *sigh* and 22 other words...
is that the alcohol-looking chemical-hormone one, scrambler?
scrambler...rhymes with "make some clean" (as in hospital clean)
(or something like that)
starts like the st**n mama look I give
I like your clue, pini!
(I just hope it really does rhyme...it does in my world!) LOL
7 to go here!
and Koda's fussing for another outing!!! :(
go pini go! go scrambler!
ah, Koda... if you gave him opposable thumbs he could let himself out!
re6/33?
to give back money
sigh....forgot I'm an hour ahead....
yeah, not sure I want to go there yet, stid...took him this long to learn how to "notify" me
hi smores
hey smores
btw, stid...that *look* you have is in here and some variations
