awful/funny memory: babysitting for the sons of a British Sugar Company executive who had brought his family for a four-year stay in the US with an American Co. Ian 10 and Allan 8. Very homesick. Took them to the openiing of Mary Poppins thinking it would help out. At the first sight of the rooftops, Allan broke out in a loud wail: "Ooooh Ian, it's LonnnnDonnnn!" and proceeded to sob heartbreakingly. In minutes, a whole theater full of children were crying miserably. Many had to be taken home and everyone missed the opening scenes.
I do have a lot of pics of her with the 3 boys in Africa.

Good news: I got an "excellent" on my presentation at school, the teacher says he's certain he'll grade my last project in the positive, and that means I will get my degree next week! Other good news: Walter has been chosen for a TV promo spot and we're leaving for the recording studio in a couple of hours.

Thanks! Yes, I feel very good about these things!!! The degree hasn't really sunk in yet... I am still in a stressy mode about it even though I don't have to nbe! It'll settle out.
The bad news: the cat's lump, which was biopsied and declared benign a while back, is nonetheless growing at terrifying rates. She is still in good health but it really keeps her from leading a normal life now. She is scheduled for x-rays on Tuesday; if it has not invaded the thoracic cavity we will look into surgery, but we need to biopsy again first in case it has gone malignant.
OH NO> MOnkey I hope she is ok and its a cist or something non bad
Me too. We're pretty upset and concerned about this. The vet was horrified at how fast this is growing.

i'm always fascinated by the old photos for sale, always wonder who they are, what's their story, and how sad that their photos aren't with family.
especially with computers around, most people don't read books any more.
yes, the owner explained that he much prefers to show off the furniture by putting books here and there. and he was very nice, actually gave me oneof the books free (said he usually greets people when they come in, but was stuck on phone, etc)
half priced books also sells "books by the foot" but I think they are mostly sold to designers, advertisers, etc and used in pictures, model homes, things like that.... I'm not sure they really sell to people for their homes, do you think?

I am an avid reader, love books and words, obviously
some books are so unwanted that selling them for decor value is the only way to sell them! like old encyclopedias, investment guides and self help books, for example
i've a teacher friend who buys those photos and then has her students create stories about the people - a nice approach to creative writing for young people.

jjks - I took creative writing class in 7th grade - honors elective... I loved it and that teacher, she was very cool!

JBV, I teach in a 120 min. block; I teach at a 6-12th grade charter (public) school in an urban area. We offer a college prep education to students who wouldn't otherwise have that opportunity. I should say suburban-urban area.

it really is a good book on a lot of levels, and the translation to english is really very good. The language is very clever and funny, and the story's good. and it has BOOKS!
we have 90 minute blocks in middle school - one for language arts and one for social studies (half a year) but the literacy themes are aligned to the social studies curriculum
