hey, question - our 18-yr-old son has just the last 2 days been getting raging headaches in the lower back of his head, they come on fast and nearly incapacitate him. Not like him at all. We feared his newly acquired car might be leaking CO, took him into the E-room, they sent off a blood sample to test. Any other ideas?

rbud - a guy I work with is recovering form meningitis. He said the headache made him feel nearly paralyzed.
I'm calling our doc in the AM, but he's never been to see this doc yet. Kid's a high stress type, always seemingly mad about something, wondering if that might be part of it.
any e.r. that doesn't take raging headaches that incapacitate an 18 year old out of the blue isn't doing their job. - meningitis is a huge issue, especially with teenagers. And there are probably 100 other serious things that could be wrong
So far the headache goes away after several ibuprofens and about 45 min. quiet time, but he cries and moans - not like him at all. And 4 times just this last 2 days, I agree, needs more attention.
well, it could be a stress headache, but still, I would think they would want to rule out more dangerous things before they just dismiss it.
they gave him oxygen for a while, he felt some better, but as soon as we got home had another.
I thought of meningitis, too, definitely worries me.
suggest er's try to weed out potential drug seekers. make an app't with dr who knows him, even his paed. they'll get tests ordered as needed/ referral.
yes, this hospital has had a problem with assuming everyone who comes in is a drug-seeker, usually unfounded, but they do tend to think it, I believe.

remember, they don't know him. think there's actually laws re: scrips of narcotics in er's. but they should be testing...

Annie, our office has a new DS baby--born Saturday evening, surprise diagnosis. I cannot wait to meet her and speak with the parents. They are devastated for now.
Scrabbs, I can imagine the desperation of the parents. I felt the same way but life took a turn and I could not love Bobby more than I do.

My first baby strangled on the cord and there was a knot in the cord too. I am sure you can imagine how I felt. When I had Elizabeth I was overjoyed beyond belief. I was determined.
