Tonight I'm making dinner, and the phone rings. Guess who? THE AUTHOR!!!!! He wanted to tell me how much he appreciates my support, and gave me his cell number to get together next weekend for coffee!!!

Well, apparently, when I buy the books from Amazon, they get sent from his brother (a third party vendor). He had my address, so he just looked up my phone number, I'm listed.
ohhh that is really cool he reached out to you
If he shows up all oiled down, then we can have LOTS of fun!!!!
is there really a pa 8?
(buys twister game for met and his author buddy)

It took longer than I expected to find and crop the Nixon pic I found, with the shifty expression.

I saw a hint about that before. I thought they lived in hills, so it didn't help!
Hello everyone. What an odd theme today, I didn't realise he was admired

hi Andree
They became totally brainwashed and ended up thinking Limbaugh was wonderful, if you know who he is, lyn.
why am i looking at nixon's picture
he's the icon theme Andree
andree, it's the icon theme, if you click on the pic.

no, but I'll look him up Jilli
what a strange choice
will happily change it now for Sunday's usual good news or blessing - perhaps that Nixon is gone???
It was the choice of jmcnrick

no jilli, my typo, 2 fans
lol jilli, perhaps
I don't think he was a fan of many here tonight
our Sat aft bridge is postponed to Sunday -- Patricia M is going to the Met Live performance at ArtSpring which is over 4 hours long!
Starts at 10 am Sat
should be a good one jilli
Rosencavalier, I believe -- she specially wanted to see that one.
think we had a 1 cancellation because of that
love the music
a 1 ?? getting tired!
I'm operatically illiterate
Limbaugh - seems a lot worse than Nixon
Limbaugh is a horror
me too but had the music way back, on LP record
it's scary that so many adore him
but look at the Bush admirers!!! a few American friends of mine thought he was great
no accounting for taste
let's just hope it is a small % of the US population
enough to elect him though lyn
I wish, lyn, but his ratings are huge.
I'm referring to Limbaugh -- god forbid he should ever get elected to even dogcatcher
I'm off to bed, think I said that before, poof
lol, flosey -- g'night, and have fun at bridge
goodnight Flosey, sleep well
How do you decide on the icon-of-the-day?
Babblers suggest themes and send to Sprite. She is always looking for suggestions Chris
Thank you. Now that Jillibus taught me to put up an icon, I'm ready to try other things.
We don't. Sprite posts a list in her profile at http://tinyurl.com/6z7unz and anyone can send her a suggestion for a theme. She would welcome lots of them!
oops sorry, just found I said a word
Right now Sprite is still showing the Christmas theme but if you scroll down you'll find the list of upcoming themes and beyond that there are themes used in the past.
never mind, lyn, it's just between us ;)
Well, time for bed with 28 left for tomorrow. Goodnight all!
I have a question that has bothing to do with Babble: I know how to save a photo to my 'favorites' file, and how to place it as background, but how do I put the background picture into my photo file?
Goodnight Jilli
Goodnight, Jillibus
on Flickr - don't know Chris...you could click on it and see
ooh thx for that word lynxxx
I have no idea, Christine. I just save photos to My Pictures.
I'll try that.
Now really goodnight and *poof*
didn't you get it from your photo file in the first place chris?
The photo was in an email from my daughter, but she lost her photos, so I want to forward it ... but I didn't put it into My Pictures before using it as my background.
bye jilli
if you still have the email you should be able to save it from that
I just realised I seem to have erased a whole lot of my profile, including the link to resize pictures! *repoof*
this seems a very agreeable grid
still 70 here but it flows along quite nicely
No email is long0gone.
i am not very good at this sort of thing but just right clicked on my background and it gave options to save to various files

Hi everyone!
hi brookie
Whew... thanks for responding... I thought everyone had left!
It's 4 a.m. and the baby is crying, but if I get him up now, he'll wake up at 3:30 tomorrow. So I'm trying my best to hold out till 5 a.m.
hi Brookie
hi lynxxx
thats the girl, this pick baby up every time it makes a sound is not something i understand
and i should have said hi andree, sorry about that
and as for demand feeds, don't get me started
the only problem is, one time that happened, my nosy neighbor downstairs called the police on me... she claimed i must have left the baby alone in the apartment
So, what do you think about demand feeding, Andree?
i totally agree, andree
what a bi***
thank got my 7 year old was with me when the police came... he told the officer that we were home the whole time
hi haz!
i had to hand on to my diplomacy when my 7 grandkids got fed so guess i will do the same here
hi haz
Hi Haz
hang on too
how old are your grandchildren?
Good morning/evening all. Demand feeding might be okay at the beginning, but surely it's okay to start working a baby towards more of a schedule?
For both of my children, I did demand feeding for the first few months, and then I "weaned" them off that demanding schedule
My friend is a midwife, she trained quite a while ago, but feels that a lot of the theories going around today may be so called baby friendly, but not very mother friendly.
its how things are now haz, and i learnt the hard way to keep my own counsel
very mother unfriendly
extremely
not to interrupt this train of thought, but this grid is awesome today!!!
and if mother is tired and cranky its not good for baby
I know, Andree, and it can be hard for new mothers because they're hearing the theories from the professionals and kind of feel that they're pleasing them if they stick to the rules. The fact that mothers have been passing on their wisdom for generations seems to be ignored.
its very pleasant
and ditto to everything you're saying about mother unfriendliness
It ends up that the mother is a slave to the baby's demands, instead of the mother gently bringing the baby towards a more normal schedule.
I remember the light bulb moment when I realised that yes, I could waken the baby to feed her if I needed to.
Also what drives me crazy is how overprotective we've become of our children (at least in the U.S.)
they read all these books, the dads read them too and believe every word, i have wanted to scream sometimes especially when my youngest son would sprout all this garbage about quiet and darkened rooms etc
You mean the whole disinfect everyone and everything syndrome?
Andree, it's been my experience that babies can sleep through just about anything, including vacuum cleaners and electric drills!
You seem to live in dread of being reported to Child Protective Services in the US
That's a good part of it, haz. I think the whole disinfecting thing in the long run makes our immune systems unprepared to handle the normal stuff of life
my kids could sleep even through the vaccumn and my husband only knew we had some very short people living with us
I have been reported to CPS and was thrown in prison for a day.
And this is from the person who had never gotten a detention in high school, never grounded, has two children who love her, etc.
Oh Brookie! that stinks!
good morning
hi ruby!
I think the whole view of things has changed. Suddenly, children are viewed as supreme beings with more rights than the adults who bow to their every demand. Not in this house!
I used to put the vacuum cleaner on so i couldn't hear my firstborn cry, I was at my wits end, he usedto drop off to sleep then!
Good morning, ruby.
actually, the whole cps thing stemmed from my ex... part of a bitter custody battle.
brookie thats awful
$65,000 in legal fees, divorce and false charges
Why isn't 'pantless' a word? I am currently pantless.
hi Ruby & Mummy
so now we have an excon on babble, lol
don't want to know Dachef! hi
We should make a note of that, mummy, and construct an old fashioned book for mothers, 'Bringing up baby the way it used to be'
glad to fill that role
We don't know, Dachef, but is being pantless wise in this weather?
hi dachef!
lol
Bye the sound of it, Brookie should be guest editor of said book.
hi dachef
No. Not wise. More comfortable tho.
Bye the sound? By the looks of it, the snow has addled my brain.
I used to have trust in America's legal system until this happened to me. Haz, I would have written the foreword to the book.
How about a kilt, Dachef? It would keep you warm.
Wow Dachef moving to the States! (or is that an old note)
i find now the kids are older and the books don't help that i have become suddenly knowlegable
too draughty. I once had a mini-kilt, but things kept dropping below the hem-line. was a good ice-breaker at parties though.
that son is now a dad and bringing up baby 'by the book, have to bite my tongue sometimes but baby is doing well, and his mum and dad are fantastic with him
Okay, so Brookie writes the foreword, Andree does the chapter on demand feeding, mummy is in charge of soothing noises for slumber. Any contributors willing to offer?
how do you spell that k word haz
knowledgable?
oh, the mental image that comes to mind!!!
My only suggestion is that a chapter on going pantless might be somewhat inappropriate for this book.
lynxx - yup, tho not entirely sure of the date yet.
The pantless chapter could come in the potty training chapter.
I'm going native.
Ah, good point haz
babies going pantless and having a kick in the sun will be reccomended in said book
I'd be happy to contribute to the weaning chapter. I believe in weaning early not all this nonsense of no solid food until they're 3.
Little boy put outside pantless in Summer near the lemon tree - that's a memory
and as for 3 year olds sucking dummies aaagh!
Good morning everyone.
hi Elder
hi elder
hi elder!
a really good psychologist would read this conversation and slowly nod to him/herself knowingly. And possibly say: ahhh a lot too.
Dummies would be banned, Andree, bottles taken away before the first birthday, children made to sit still with fingers over their mouths. They'll love us for it.
my son is 46 now, but when he was born, I lived in a tiny town and had no experience or anyone to help me. Dr. Spock got me through with his sensible, practical advice
my younger son never got into "binkies", but my older son loved them. On his 1st birthday, I accidentally-on-purpose lost all his binkies
Dachef -- where in Los Angeles
?
This is the Babble Baby Rearing Revolution. Will we get all that painted on the banner, do you think?
hi christine!
christine, looks like you'll have a new neighbor!
my mother in law got me through with her advice , so you can imagine the old fashioned way my 3 were brought up
and a little Guiness in mother's milk is not such a bad idea, either!
Christine - not sure yet. I'm there in 2 weeks for about a month to see how it goes, and then start looking for something permanent.
Hi, all --- been here since 11pm, about halfway
Ruby, I think you've hit the nail on the head, professional advice is fine as long as it's practical.
funny how we're all experts now we are grandparents!
unfortunately, no grandkids! daughter-in-law's choice
Why LA Dachef?
and a European friend told me about the Guiness, a pint a day makes great milk and the baby sleeps through the night!
Well Dachef, it's the place to be.Right now, it's the warmest place in USA.In fact, it's past 1:30am, andI just closed the front door.
dach, looked up the web addy, is that the book cover
sorry ruby, I never ever thought i'd have any then both kids produced within 6 months
if it is its fabulous
Its where the publishers want me to be! And I really really really really really really hate the snow!
Christine, what part of L.A. are you in? I used to live in Woodland Hills
A pint a day of Guinness being for the mother rather than the baby? I can just see all the experts swooning at the thought.
lol, she's past 40!
Andree - the site has just gone up, so thats just the start of it. Thats one of the characters.
oh well, at least you won't have the expense!!
Do we get to boast that we knew Dachef before he was famous?
You could, but then the name on the book cover is unlikely to be 'dachef', so no-one would believe you.
Since Dachef will be famous soon, maybe he should write the foreword to the book that we Babblers are developing... would sell more copies
no, no, haz, it helps mothers make good milk plus eating a lot. I was plumper nursing than 9 months' preg!
I see your heroine is pantless as well.
lol
its very fashionable.
Have to go. Be back later.
bye elder!
Bye, elder, see you later.
BBS salad to do
bye lynxxx!
See you later, lynxxx. The rest of us will be eating salad for the rest of our lives if we're ever going to emulate Dachef's heroine.
lol haz
I remember going to see a ballet in the Town Hall here and feeling incredibly fat as these skinny things pranced about.
i used to be that thin and felt miserable... and hungry
thin as a ballerina, that is
When women are too thin they look horrible. There is a common misconception that women must be thin to look attractive to men. Its bollocks. Most men find skinny women a turn-off.
Goodness, that IS thin. Better to eat and be happier, within limits of course.
that's what i hear, dachef. i get more compliments now that i have a little weight on me
I would agree, Dachef. Have you seen Hannah Waterman lately? She's lost a huge amount of weight and looks, to my eyes anyway, gaunt and unhealthy.
as one gets older and metabolism slows there is little to be done, i was skinny all my life until about 6 years ago, now i am carrying 5 extra kilo's i don't want
who's Hannah Waterman?
Po4/6 spice would disagree, of course, but since she hasn't smiled since 1986, you can't really judge anything by her.
I think when you get older, there's a choice of being a "chicken" old lady with wrinkles on wrinkles, or a pretty, chubbier one. But we can't always make the choice
Hannah Waterman, daughter of Dennis, acted in Eastenders though haven't got a clue what she played.
and if you ask her how she is i expect she would say"hungry"
po4 spice is a prime example - skinny, unhappy and about as attractive as a dose of the clap.
Ah, that Hannah Waterman. Sorry, popular culture and me dont get on.
Yes, someone said that once you reach a certain age you have to choose between your face and your body. Choose your face and you'll not have wrinkles, choose your body and you'll have a slim figure with a gaunt, wrinkly face.
dachef, then l.a. will be an interesting place for you to be!
I didn't have a choice, just got skinnier and smaller with age -- horrible
that's wise, haz... i never thought about it
She's been on TV a bit recently because of the weight loss - was on Andrew Neil's political programme to make some comment about image in politics.
bugger all that - eat, drink and be merry. Be happy and sod everyone else. If you want to go pantless in the snow, do it.
i ddidn't get a choice, i have wrinkles and a spare tyre
(Starting to wonder whether Dachef is the right choice to feature in the Baby Rearing book)
aaaw, andree
Good morning all. Haz, I saw her on that programme and considering she is 34 I thought she looked over 40.
Hello, Frances. I agree, I thought she looked much older than her years.
hi frances!
dachef, your book will be a hit, you will be famous and get to meet all the skinny people, maybe posh too
She's just all pinched looking, but claims to be very happy and healthy.
Interesting that she has also split with her husband.
andree- I'd love to meet po4 spice. I would give her a burger and say 'quick, while no-ones looking'.
ha ha dach
Yes, I'm not sure of the background to that, don't even know who her husband is, but it's sad if she's sh4/6 the husband along with the weight.
Haz, I also saw Jessie Wallace on TV this week. She has also lost a mountain of weight. There is nothing of her.
She is married to Ricky Groves who was also in Eastenders.
The problem doesn't seem to be losing the weight, it's keeping it off. I mean, was Jessie Wallace vastly overweight before?
jessie wallace I do know. Her cousin used to work for me. She was mental.
Was the cousin mental or Jessie Wallace?
Jessie. Complete bampot.
The weight was probably about the same for both of them.
So, they looked fine as long as they kept their clothes on and didn't parade about in bikinis for the press to take photos and mock them?
I blame the media, although I'm sure FM bears some responsibility as well.
nice chatting with you and reading the chog... i've waited till 5 a.m. now and will get the baby... will be back in a few but will be lurking with baby in my arms... so i'll tell you now, enjoy the rest of the day!
Before or after the weight loss? I know that I am overweight but there is absolutely no way that I would wish to be that skinny.
Bye Brookie.
Is FM still taking the blame for everything?
Bye Brookie.
yay brookie you made it and showed who is boss
Absolutely. Everything is ultimately her fault.
who's FM?
FMitch
I think the media delights in taking photos of people who they consider to be overweight, that makes the actress/tv personality feel under pressure to lose weight, they do, they show off their new body to an admiring press, they feel good, they start eating to celebrate, and it all starts again.
ahhh.
when you tell 3 year old grandaughter to to something, if she doesn't want to hands go on hips and say"you are not the boss of me"
Haz - if they are that shallow and self-centred they probably deserve it.
poor FM, feel sorry for her even though it is her fault
Well, I know, Dachef, but if you're supposedly in an industry where image matters, I'm sure people feel under pressure to conform.
What do you tell 3 year old grandaughter with hands on hips, Andree. Something along the lines of 'That's where you're wrong, madam!'?
absolutley
I sort of understand the image matters thing, but you have to ask what kind of people are attracted to that industry in the first place. Its like politics - no-one in their right mind would want to be a politician, hence they are all complete twats.
i try not to laugh though
It's all this bargaining with children that I don't get and asking for their permission to buy certain foods.
'you're not the boss of me now'. 'fair enough. Go get your own food.'
its what would you like for dinner instead of this is whats for dinner
My seven year old granddaughter was doing something on the computer and suddenly yelled out 'oh crap'. I said it would be better to use an anagram of that. So now when she does something wrong she yells out 'oh carp'.
i only asked my kids what they wanted for dinner on their birthdays, i hear my daughter ask the kids what they want to eat and i feel like screaming
I know! In the summer time when we would be outside, you'd hear neighbours asking 'What would you like, will I make x y or z?' Since when did children get the right to make all decisions?
I honestly think that's why children have screaming fits in supermarkets. They're not ready to make those sorts of decisions, leave them alone to walk beside you and fetch a few things.
a chapter on meals will need to feature in the book
Yes, meals will need to be tackled. Parent decides what to make, child eats and thanks parent heartily.
it also makes them very picky with food choices and limited
after hearty thanks then desert can be offered
Absolutely. AND they have to sit at a table and eat.

Stay in doors FM, its just not worth it
Morning all ... can anyone clue the ha5 .. ha6 the last of the ha's ;o)

morning norma
I did want to get some batteries for the camera so I can take some pics.
Thanks lynxxx .... Hi Katie hows things ??
brb phone
good thanks hubby has just driven back from Mari's in the snow and now we aren't leaving the house for the weekend lol
FM is in the PB with Haz!
oh darn, sorry!
I don't blame you ... I haven't left the house since last weekend and don't intend to yet.. even ordered groceries from Sainsbury on line ... hows that for being idle lol
How is the hill at Mari's ??? Are the roads clear ???
I've just been on the tTescos website to seee what delivery slots they had available and they are all take for the next week!
Norma, theres being idle, and then theres being safe. You are being safe!!
Mari's hill OK, Pennymoore is gritted in only one direction, I'm not going in next Monday if it gets any worse
Thanks Soo I needed someone to agree with me lol
Hi FM I tried Asda before Sainsbury and they are all booked up as well, I think everyone is doing the same
What part of the UK are you in, Katie, Norma and FM?
I don't blame you katie ... better safe than sorry xx
Katie and me are in the Midlands ....
Im in West Sussex Soodle, moved house about 6 weeks ago from Berkshire
we went to Asda on Thursday the shop was quiet and the carpark was lethal
we now have food for a couple of weeks thank goodness
I am scared of my automatic car in the snow until I get used to the manual gears, how are you getting on with yours Katie
I live right in the heart of the village so the local supermarket is only about a 4 min walk on a normal day but I live at the top of a hill so now am fairly stranded.
it has two other gears rather than just drive it has S which makes it slower and L which is like driving in 2nd gear, if I hadn't found them I would have been in at all last week
best get your sled out FM
Car! mine is still half burried and there is no way I will be using it for a while yet.
FM you are in the right place when the snow thaws as are we, but it is a pest in this weather being as hills are quite dangerous
Hello - was just on the phone to sister-in-law. Her water pipes have been frozen since Tuesday, she's coming here to get showered and get her washing done!
We have only 1 and 2 and then the usual automatic ones ... I haven't tried them yet ... I will just stay in.. have got to go into Tamworth as my Tickets for my holiday have arrived ..
I feel a lot better now having been able to winge - sometimes it is good to winge ;) Hi Haz!! poor sister!
I agree FM wingeing is good sometimes, it doesn't help but it makes you feel better ...
I know! She lives in the country and the water pipes coming into the barn are frozen.
Anyway, thankfully her heating is still working and she's been able to do her ablutions in school during the week, but still. She's even been recycling her hot water bottle water.
We aren't able to cope are we Haz our infrastructure isn't designed to cope with these temperatures
this is all getting a bit grim
Lynn - cheer us up! Whats the weather doing where you are?
Yes it needs Lightening doesn't it lynxxx ;o)
I know, it's gone beyond being pretty to being pretty awful.
oh without heating where would we be! Although we have had a few powercuts this week I suddenly twigged that at least with the laptop and the mobile I can still communicate with the outside world so long as I remember to keep them charged.
Oh, keep them charged, FM, keep them charged.
The fill of oil I got in November, (which was supposed to do me till about March) is getting perilously low....
Yes lynxxx tell us how warm it is with you!
Can you get more Soo ??
Now, I must be off to get ready for the supermarket run. I hate it at the best of times, going when it's snowing is even worse. Still, keep calm and carry one!
Take care Haz hugs.
Take care Haz see you later
Bye for now! *gone*
good luck Haz, you will feel better when it's done
Think I will head off too - need to get some fresh air. Am not used to beeing cooped up for this long. See you all soon.
It can be got, Norma, but January is a bad month for unanticipated expenses!
Take care FM
Bye FM
Bye FM
Are the oil companies cashing in Soo ... or are the prices staying the same??
I haven't checked, Norma, I'm afraid to :(
Hello Everyone.
Hi elder
Hi Elder
Hi elder, how you doing?
A bit chilly and seeing it's snowing yet again.
Your part of England ? are you managing ok ish with this current weather.
Back, was changing icon for something for GB in these dire times
Lynn - we were asking you to cheer us up, and tell us what the weather is like in your part of the world....
hello Lynxxx, I expect your the opposite in the weather front ..... more than warm:)
-18 °F (-28 °C) Wind Chill: -40 °F (-40 °C)
Quite a nice day today 35, about 98 I think, but cool charge earlier in afternoon. A lovely crisp night, had BBQ dinner outside. Make you feel better?
Aaarrrggghhhh. I remember BBQ's!!
Lynxxx ' giggles' that will do it :)
Hi BabbleRabble
Got to keep out of that wind BabRab
Hello
Babbleam struggling with the temps here, lower as you have, I seriously think I would expire.
it gets my attention
Chill factor here is awful.
But spring is right around the corner
True..
Never thought I would see the day. The Chat Log is frozen solid!
he.. he.. fingers too cold to type maybe ?
Hello ... how many words are there today please?
218 words
218 mudd
hello Mudd.
SO curious! Could someone tell me why people ask how many words? when they're right here?
The stats are only there when you go 'pro' Jayk
Jayk may be everyone cannot see what we see.if they are not pro.
But when I first started--before i went "pro," i could see the number of words
You only get that for a limited time.
Oh! maybe just for the 2 weeks...
Jayk only for a limited time.
Soodle do you hear echo's:)
ECHOES....echoes....
....:)
the volcano is back
Hallo Babble world. Yuk, 218 words, and I have so much else to do ...
Hello Inge.:)
Hello Sally.
Sally easy grid though.
Have not started yet :-)
Lots of plurals by the look of it.
ty for the word count
Many...
Sally and keep an eye out for those .......est words
ty for the tip elder. At the moment I am employing the scatter-gun approach.
Good tactic, bound to hit something.:)
yay. Fireworks!!
Well done ! Soodle..
Can I help anybody before I go foraging for food (at the supermarket)
Thanks for the offer, but ok here. You take out there and wrap up ..
gm everyone
Good morning everyone. I just saw an amazing aerial photo of the UK. Wow. you guys have really gotten sklonked! And here in Vermont, the land of snow and ice, things are quite moderate.
Hello Eva, yes a bit bleak. I heard from my sister we have been on CNN England, that is.. not her or me .
The weather I meant.
And at least here we are all prepared-battery operated lamps, generators, wood stoves, 4-wheel drive. It must be quite scary to be trapped without the service structure in place.
does anyone have a clue for the pe8/9 combo?
without roaches doesn't seem to be acceptable.
Although, we tend not to have it as bad as this ...we never seem to be prepared ..... I have blanket, shovel etc in car .. you never know when you may need those items for self or others.
absolutely. And extra clothing. And strap on cleats in case one gets stuck and has to walk on the ice. And extra drinking water.
Eva, the picnic irritant and you dig this in the garden to plant veg & plural.
So having made that list.....why do we live in northern climes?
Costa Rica is looking awfully good right now.
thanks elder but that's the an. I need the pe ones
Eva born here and although I have been to visit several countries I always want to come home .. natural I guess.
sorry elder-DUH! Thank you
Eva that is the PE ones.
pe is the roach, plus you dig in the garden ...
and of course a close second the an words..
I feel the same way about New England, but as we get older, the idea of being somewhere warm and sunny for at least part of the winter is more and more appealing. Much of Vermont disappears in the winter.
are there any regular babblers who live in berkeley, california? They won't be playing yet, but I'm looking for some travel advice.
Eva oh yes, at times it would be more comfortable and easier on bones , but it's good to have seasons, keeps us surprised )
Friend just arrived with our milk and papers, having walked to nearest village to get them for everyone! She looks like a snowman, so have to go and feed her coffee. Back later.
How many 8 are there. Thanks to Eva's request, I have the pe 8,9.
Bless the Friend..
There are 8 x8 and 2x9 Mudd.
ewwww
just got the et 7,8
there are only 5 8's.
good morning (or afternoon or evening) wherever ye may be - we think it's cold here (23F) but after reading the chog, it ain't so cold afterall
Oh yes sorry, 5x8 words got carried away .
Good afternoon here ( Just) Bojazz.
it's 9 degres here. Cold, but not terrible. Usually some time in January theres a couple of weeks of -20's.
carried away by all the an-- and pe---?
phantom: antelope
:) Eva - good 2
what temp is it now eva? we have nine... just above you in quebec city
exactly the same here oodle
it is 9 I mean
Hello oodle.
ok
hi elder
I think most of our weather lately has been coming from the canadien maritimes
and it's the first sun in weeks! I'd rather have the cold than the constant grey!
our cold, according to the experts, is coming from Siberia
Our cold spell coming in from Russia I blame. Putin.
that's a long way to come bojazz
think it warmed some on the journey
the eastern e's are not being very cooperative
any clues would be appreciated
I have an ep4/5 sounds like god of love
Et x7 & 8 is a male name -5 and Spanish word minus end vowel.
Afternoon all, made it back from my foray into the village unscathed but couldn't get any batteries for the camera :(
here's a clue, oodle... all the words in the grid are between 4 and 9 letters long, and there are 218 of them
Hi elder, hope you are well and warm.
glad you're back safe and sound FM

Hello FMitch hard to keep warm but am ok. Shame you could not buy batteries as the scenes are wonderful including the ice formations. Pleased you came to no harm as conditions on pathways are lethal
hi everyone been in and out
clue for the an9?
Hello westford.
hello elder
Thought I had better give it a try as what they are forecasting for overnight may preculde going out at all tomorrow apart from gingerly putting food out for the birds.
Today, had more snow and predicated for tomorrow. Daily am and pm and brushing snow away to feed the birds with various bits they are struggling.. and the feeders are frozen.
a + what a fisherperson uses to land a fish + a degradation in the road: pot****; pl
an9 leads off the an7 and 8. a + what you catch fish in + fall down a H***
thanks so much, BR! I never would have gotten that!
and thanks for the cloue too, sandie
hello bab and sandie
and in htese conditions they are at risk as they can't get to their usual food sources. Glad I was able to get more suppies in for them, mixed seeds and sunflower seeds which they love and fat balls and of course bread and water.

Seeing your comment abouit the birds Elder - have you noticed that you put out a load of bread, a blackbird comes and takes a bit - do the others do the same?? No, they all chase the bird with the bit of bread!!
dee I think elder left
but what you said is so true
I was a bit slow - been checking my lunch in the oven!!
Yes, Deeha. So true! The magpie flies off with the bit he takes, and eats it in the tree.
good morning Babblers :)
hi nono
hi nono
in regards to the blackbirds..... here they seem to take as many bits of bread as they can possibly hold and fly off. It's no wonder other birds fly after them, sometimes there is nothing left
norma - you stil here?
i throw bits of bread in the back yard for the blackbirds and bluejays to squabble over and keep seed in the feeder out front for the smaller birds
I put out seed and peanuts in feeders - I hadnt done it for a while so the birds dont go there but I can see from my window now the blue tits have discovered it so that is nice. There was an appeal yesterday from the RSPB to remember the birds as this winter could wipe a lot out
anyone have the two eastern e's?

hello rub
Nice icon, ruby
hello owl
nice do,g too!

Oooh, great website. We got many of our things from the Enchanted Dollhouse, here in Vermont. Now they are gone.
hi ruby! we got there eventually!
i also have 4/6 mel
got the last 2 from that E TO did you get all yours?
too funny but many many thanks for your patience! Now my girl will be famous
4 et and 2 en from there TO
seems i am missing et
no worries! and no idea why, but that picture worked and the first one you sent didn't. so I just stuck with the one that worked, and it's a gorgeous pic!
Ata I love your puppies ears and Ruby terribly cute pup
but doesn't she look just like bella?
et 7, 8, 4, 4
she does!
ty missing 7/8
you want the values?
I have to admit to never liking chows - until I met Bella, adn instantly fell in love
gasoline perhaps?
ata is that your dog in icon?
My friend had a part chow. He was a Buddha dog. I swear he would never move.
they are def my favorites, like very large cats, independent but affectionate. We've had 5 over the years. Our black boy, Max, sleeps most of the time.
I've *just* changed it to Hobbit - before it was Ruby's dog
I guess gasoline substitute would be a better clue
funny, friend said Bella was just like a large cat yesterday!
ty mel
how much does she weigh? Ruby is about 75 lbs.
you're welcome
I don't know, I'd say maybe a bit lighter, but not much. She's certainly a good bit heavier than Hobbit and Hobbit is 40lb
I am not a dog person. But i love how cute they are
ata does hobbit like the snow?
I never used to be, till I had Hobbit
oh what the crud kind of word is this, I will clue it, HA 6/7 combo rhymes with the shelf over your fireplace
I never was until I got my first chow chow, Rosie
she likes it this year. last year she refused to go out in it at all! talking of the brat ... I should go and brush a bit of the garden so she can poo - one thing she simply refuses to do is get her bum cold!
I am a cat person. Also Ata play the snowball tossing game with the dog
too funny, mel, but thanks for the weird word
brb!
pu 5 plz
Ruby Chow dogs remind me of teddy bears
like a cross between real bears and lionesses
Gizmo was a teddy. He was a great dog
nm got it
hint zoe?
Ata - I've just come in from brushing a bit of the garden for the same reason - made me feel better to know I'm not the only daft one in the room, lol

hi car and dc and bubba ,ruby
hello boobear
Hi Boo
hello :)
what a lovely pup, ruby ;)
gorgeous pic, dc!
and she loves the snow, never gets cold
does the snow slide off her?
no, she just sparkles with it until it melts and then leaves puddles
awwwww! Diamond Ruby!
it just seems to slide off Bells somehow
dc, your cat is beautiful
thank you, ruby :)
dc's cats are all lovely!
names?
She's Feldspar
Alabaster went to live with my sister. He's grown up to be incredibly beautiful. I'm trying to get pictures from my sister.
he did? awwww :( he is a beautiful boy
you must be a geologist
I'm not, but i have cousins who are, and grandad was a lapidarist.
there was Jasper too :)
aaah, I collect amonites and other fossils
I was given Jasper, named for his eyes. So i named Felsdpar for her flecking, and Alabaster for his white. :) Decided to stick with the theme
yay for fossils :)
hello all!!!!
good morning, stid
we did it with dog names: red chow chows were Rosie, Ruufus and Ruby. First black on was Cleopatra, black queen of the nile but then we named Max
his tiddy
'morning folks
hey origami
morning, origami.
LOL "tiddy" *grin*
nifty, ruby :)
so do you have just Ruby and Max now?
sorry stiddy dear!!
hello ruby, don't think we've met yet! *offers choclits*
s'okay Atalante. How deep is the snow today?
about a foot
Ruby and Max are the names of the protagonists of a children's book I used to read the boys.
thank you mama, I'll have one please
totally snowed in
that's pretty deep! hope you don't have to go out in it for a while?
*shares choclits liberaly*
Max is in Where the Wild Things Are but Ruby? I don't know
how's the grid today, anyway?
can't whether I want to or not! Can't get out of the drive LOL
hold on, I'll find the name of the book....
i'm more than halfway in about 20 minutes
I'm more than half way but totally out of words.....
Yes, just the two, and Max is autistic and on Prozac, which helps a lot
poor max!
He's a sweet boy but has to be hand-fed and is very timid.
awwwwwwww was he always like that even as a tiny pup?
The author is Rosemary Wells (rosemarywells.com), and the books were just right for preschool through about 3rd grade as I recall, sweet stories about brother and sister bunnies.
Afternoon, all. I didn't know dogs could be autistic.
not a bad start seain...
We knew there was something wrong when he came to us from Canada, but the breeder said he was normal. I diagnosed the autism using Temple Grandin as a guide and the drug helps. Neither did my vet!
hey Judi
poor puppy
Hiya, Stiddy!
I think he's lucky to have come to us; if the breeder had realized, she probably wd hv put him down. Here he has a loving sister and us!
okay, will finish reading two more sections in the current textbook (blah blah blah) and then start. back in about ten...
we used to have a brain-damaged cocker. you can imagine the chaos LOL
njoy stid
I thought they all were!
Hobbit is very smart *sniffs* LOL :P
Smug!
and beautiful, I'll bet! Just teasing.....
*smug* :D
but actually she really is. especially compared to msot idiot cockers!
Chows are not noted for their brains, just their looks and loyalty. Ruby is the smartest one we've had
but Hobbit is a working dog by breeding, so that explains that
ahah
if you ask a chow to do something, he says "You want me to what???"
did anyone see the horizon..on the relationship bw dogs and humans?
Haz described it to me :)
what is the horizon?
and then says "maybe ... if I feel like it"
exactly
its a documentary program ruby
in the UK?
yup
whereas Hobbit eyes me and thinks "do you really mean it?" If she knows I'm being half-hearted, she'll ignore me. If she knows I really mean it, she'll do it instantly
Sounds like a cat, Ata.
guest
chows are a lot like cats
oops..sorry
hi rolin.. go to the pb
ill only go if theres brownies..*humpph*
well alright.. brownies are sent
ok then...*trudging a little to happily*
*bum rushes rolin to PB and shoves brownie in mouth* Don't forget to drink your milk.
nah, she's not American, she doesn't have to have milk!
dfbbgfybyw gewg b kwbwq y judi
i don't like milk, and never cared for it with sweets at all.
*blinks* Did you just curse me in welsh?
yes lots of calcium is good for you and i will add chocolate if you like
nor me. I do try every time I go to Oregon. But I really don't
i like chocolate and milk....without the milk
one can get plenty o calcium from leafy greens, quinoa, and other sources.
then add candy bars
Love quinoa. Haven't tried it with chocolate tho.
quinoa is gorgeous
adults don't drink milk in france and they think I'm crazy. It's especially good with a little scotch in it
eeeww...milk and alcohol...something i could never do...my uncle used to drink rum and milk
Scotch & milk. Erk. Although, not too far removed from Bailey's.
hello again. I lied . This textbook is tedious. ((hello boo))
what's the text about, stid?
it's what people with ulcers drink but I like it
Off to do laundry. BBL.

a freshly ge7 canvas, ready for painting
It's titled "Rethinking Globalization" a series of essays about how to think about and teach the issues of the history behind globalization (colonialism) and the current problems (child labor, monoculture, human rights abuses)... *sigh* I know it's important to understand it, but reading it in large chunks is depressing.
thanks for the ge 7
I used to use it but can't spell it!
i think the worry about monoculture is overstated.
ge5 is the root of the ge7, ruby
what is monoculture?
the problem is that the people are no longer producing their own foods, seain, and must purchase food staples from other places at higher cost than it would have been to grow it themselves. Since they no longer live on small family farms for the most part, they don't have the option to just put in a vegetable plot
stid....sounds like my daughters studies
In this case, single, homogeneous world culture, i believe
ah in the ag sense
yes, agriculturally, it's a HUGE problem
Corn and Bananas especially at present
monoculture is the practice of growing only one crop, there are valid reasons to not do it for more than the humanitarian issues as well
I know about monoculture, but not about ge5 or 7! duh
in that case, monoculture sucks. I love seeing and living in 100 different cultures around the world
ruby: g + spell out the snake letter and end with a vowel...
monoculture o cotton killed the soil for a generation or so in huge swaths of the US South
gesso
that would be it ruby... LOL
sorry, pb for me, I got too excited
*puts extra choclits in teh PB*
that's it, ruby :)
I thought that monoculture speaks to an outbreak of mononucleosis
LOL BR! that too! (((hugs)))
LOL BabRab
mmmmm peri's spinach balls are YUM
hi stid hi dc
salut ruby
you made spinach balls? in THIS weather? *rolls eyes* sugar cookies are WAY betterer this time of year...
hallo, oodle
OODLES!!!!! (how do you say "hugs and choclit" en francais?)
good to know, ata
oh know, these are comfort food spinach balls!
hello oodle or ALLO
embrassments et chocolat... i think
oh, comfort food is okay in that case!
stove top, cheese, eggs and spinach, pretty much. and a tonne of butter
is that right ruby?
*embarrassing oodles with lots of embrassments et chocolat...*
what kind of cheese
hold on going to get my dictionary
I am up to 65 and still need that E in the upper right corner to have NBT (then I will read another section, I promise)
peut etre embrasses but I just looked it up: serrer dans les bras!!! lol
the french have too many verbs and not enough nouns
étreinte
aaaah
hm. not sure oodles needs bras... *wicked mama grin* but maybe? LOL
ah bon... savais pas
i've never been etreinted
i think oodle is right, as in spanish it's embrazos y chocolate
hold on
embrassments should work
of course oodles is speaking the quebequois I think?
could be enserre ruby
that's neat
I just used cheddar cos it's all I had, but it's meant to be parmesan
almost exactly the same stid except for the accent
the french in france has more english words in it thatn the quebec french does
enserrer je voulais dire
oh - I didn't know oodles, I know the words for "80" are different, yes? quatre-vingt as opposed to octante (or something like that?)
octante is swiss
and nonante
makes sense. France's identity is not tied up in 'we're not anglophone'
Belgian French uses those too, oodle
and belgian
Swiss French maybe
ah! okay, I DID remember something from nearly 40 years ago! LOL
and also septante
right
very cool. you-all know so much! it's why I love hanging out with you.
finally. NBT.
this is the best chat, I've only been here 3 wks, but have learned so much, especially recipes from atalante!!!
quatre-vignt is like the old english four and twenty
recipes from peri really!
mmmmm spinach balls!!
I can't move now. Those spinach things were blissful
when I first learned french (6th grade, mid-70's) I remember drilling and drilling on the numbers. gah. no wonder I thought it was tedious.
quatre-vingt is like English fourscore
but if you are new to a language repetition is very important
or balles des espinards
hey doren!
when we moved here, 11 yrs ago, I couldn't understand television, but now I can
I know that seain, having studied many... but at 11 or 12, when everyone else has already studied that language since 1st grade it was a bit much! thankfully my aunt's first language was french and they lived nearby at the time.
hi doren!
i should be running out to market now... it's the warmest time of the day..20 degrees
hi, doren
I'm going to have to cook up some spinach now but is frozen chopped OK?
that is after dc but you are correct
indeed, make use of the relative warmth!
absolutely. that is what is called for in the recipe ruby
yep yep! let me post teh proper recipe here, it's pretty short
and it makes millions
Spinach Balls 6 large eggs 12 tablespoons (1 1/2 sticks butter, melted 1 box (6 oz) chicken-flavored stuffing mix 2 packages (10 oz eac) frozen chopt spinach, thawed and drained well 1 cup (4 oz) shredded Parmesan cheese 1/4 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper 1. Place eggs in large mixing bowl and beat with a whisk til they are lemon colored. Add the melted butter, stuffing mix, drained spinach, Parmesan and black pepper, and stir to combine. Using your hands, roll the spinach mixture into balls about 1 inch across. You will get about 46-48 balls. The mixture will be loose but not to worry, it will firm up in the oven. when ready to bake preheat oven to 350 degree F. Place the spinach balls on baking sheets and bake them til they are browned around the edges, 11 to 13 minutes for unfrozen balls. Transfer the spinach balls to a serving platter and serve warm. Enjoy.
oh my ... look at all that butter! of course they're good... and that must be why i haven't made them in the last twenty years
now, I just proved it is STILL boring to 8th graders (stidkid #2 was in here delivering my tea...) LOL
I *know*! I thought they were quite healthy until that :) though I didn't use that much, and used soya spread instead
i've been dealing with lots of 8th graders lately. boring is their favorite word
LOL amazing recipe atalante... let's see.... yep. I can eat the actual SPINACH part! rofl... man these allergies keep me ho6!
i'm making jambalaya tomorrow so i need to go out and get lots of stuff
bbiab going to the store...
doren... may I vent briefly about adolescents?
abbiento, oodles. see you soon.
when i used to make those spinach balls i also served them with a mustard sauce. oh, of course stid! c'est necessaire
it won't take long....
bye oodles
ahh. I need help with an 5,10 and an 6,18
merci! YESTERDAY, the stidkid #1 started a debate tournament. they always run Friday-Saturday around here.
He didn't remind me about the start time, and I completely misread the email from the coach.
He was supposed to be AT SCHOOL at 6:50 in the morning (normally they leave the school in the afternoon)!
aha! but it's YOUR fault, of course
And he wasn't even AWAKE until I rousted him out of bed at 6:20 so he could catch the schoolbus...
what a great recipe except we have no stuffing mix, I'll have to improvise that part, maybe whole wheat toast and chicken bouillon???
you can crumble dried bread and add seasonings ruby
GAH> then the coach waited to call to ask us where he was until the bus had JUST PICKED HIM UP -- it's an hour's ride to the school....
will do that
stid you can tell him his friend doren says it's 8th grade now... time to be responsible for himself.... really.
*heavy sigh* so Tom ended up picking him up at the school and driving him up to the tournament. It is important to us that he participate because it really is helping his people skills.
But it was also very inconvenient all-around.
this is the high school junior, doren!
he doesn't drive, and if he did we still needed both our cars yesterday so that wouldn't have been an option.
oh no! then he MUST start to be responsible... knowing times of his own activities is de rigeur!
I am going to make him buy an alarm clock with a LOUD ring that he has to get out of bed to turn off.
with his own money, too. not mine.
good!
yes, indeed. thanks for validating my thoughts, doren. I was feeling like the totally worst mother in the world.
my daughter got one for her brother that actually moves... away. so it starts off near enough to wake you up but travels away so YOU have to move
Thanks for the recipe, Atalante. I love spinach and am always searching for new ways to make it. My family's favorite is boiled with mashed potatoes, smushed with some vinegar, and metwurst on top. It's an old Dutch recipe and easy to make.
but it is true that in another year or two I won't likely be around to pick up the pieces when this sort of things happens
or one that gets louder and louder
fake creamed spinach.
oh! that is a FINE idea, doren! I will see if I can find something like that
oooo sounds yummy, mudd
me too. I *love* spinach
hey Mudd! that sounds like something our son "invented" (but he uses kale)
melt butter, saute chopped onion lightly, then add softened cream cheese, frozen spinach, and lots of seasonings... put in casserole and top with crumbled bacon and stick it in the oven for a while
metwurst is what kind of sausage?
and with that.... I am down to 140 words and need to read for a while again. (((hugs/embrassment for everyone))) see you-all again later. *poof*
i shouldn't have said add.. it is to mix the onion into the other things and stir a lot. seasonings originally call for G. Washington golden broth packet, but that might be hard to find
bye stid
uh oh, someone is stomping around upstairs and it's not ruby or max..... this was my best game ever, 125 words! thank you everybody
bye stiddy, bye ruby!
bye
hey ata you have been to sark yes?
yep
i am reading this guernsey literary society book for a book club... not truly great literature but it has been such fun to read and had me googling the channel islands... so interesting, and i want to go now
I don't like Guernsey so much, but I looove Sark
Yes, if I can find kale, I use that, too. Metwurst can be bought where I grew up in MI and is the best, but I use low-fat Kielbasa, too.
why don't you like guernsey.. the book makes it sound enchanting
it's very "normal". it's just like being anywhere else in the UK, butmore expensive
oh. that makes sense... and sark? geographically beautiful?
did you read that book, btw?
sark isn't beautiful. Liz will kill me for that :P Sark is wonderful. It's rugged and isolated and just gorgeous
yep, I did
ok. gorgeous trumps beautiful i guess. and rugged and isolated are terrific. so, what did you think of the book? (i'll quote you tomorrow nite)
I thought the book had a good beat and was easy to dance to ... oh wrong topic
this babble is useless
giggling at babrab
I liked it. Good book. I dont' tend to like books that talk about war though, but that's any book notjust that one
don't know how you define useless... i'm finding the grid a bit tougher than the last couple, but useless? never!
i have been enjoying it (just got to the description of the camp though, and it certainly changed the tenor of the book) will finish it up tonight, my treat for getting the house in order, shopping done, etc
you certainly see a lot of remains of the war in guernsey. every beach and hillock has turrets / towers / stuff, both english adn german
urf, soooo full now! but those spinach things were just lovely
i suppose that would be fascinating in a morbid kind of way... historical and all, but sad too
I've given up on my diet at the moment - nearly every other day I'm still having so many flu after-effects that I got so shivery and fevery that I just need to eat more than normal
ok. i'm off now... bbl. happy babbles
oh. that is sad.. eat then, diet later... be healthy. much more important than svelte
good evening all
be well, Dorens
hi and bye sprite *poof*
hi everyone, clue for the po6 before Winnie the po4?

PERI!
we've been discussing your spinach balls all day :)
the second ne7?28
did you like them, Ata?
hi, peri. Ata has sung the glories of your Spinach Balls :)
Let me find a clue for the ap7
I am soooo glad!!!

:)
hi everyone, I'm back, ho4fully to finish
hi Annie
hi spritey, how are you tonight?
... and Fireworks!
The last po7/42 and I'm done...go monkey!
or clue me
YAY for Merk and Kaplan!!
I still have one more!
hi Annie, a little better! Fit enough to do my babble before bed, and sleeping pills sitting on my desk already for after. Am going to make it a long and healthy night and tomorrow should be a good day :) How are you doing today, Annie?
Okay, in advance then
Sprite, awhile ago Mudd gave a Dutch recipe that called for spinach and mashed potatoes mixed. Does it sound familiar to you or do you have any good Dutch spinach or kale recipes?
po7/42??? the last one?
Easy word, Kap. To own or have something.
to have something
sounds very familiar, the dutch kitchen has many recipes with mashed potatoes mixed. I have a recipe for spinach pie, and I think one for spinach macaroni sauce too.
oh, YEAH! Fireworks!
spinach pie is sooooooo good
congrats, kaplan!
Ata: with feta.
Sometimes I forget the simple ones...
MMM!
Any clues needed?
i do a spinanch, garlic, and olive oil sauce for pasta sometimes :)
sprite, Im doing okay. Spinach and mashed potatoes are absolutely delicious.
yummy seain, sounds delicious!
I agree, Annie, and glad you are ok!
i'll throw in some walnuts or pinenuts too, if i have them, and i'm not in the mood to make a full pesto.
spinach and anything is quite yummy!
Spinach! Who knew?
hi, annie, glad to see you
spinach is great. Healthy, interesting and it combines with so many other good stuff too.
spinach, mashed potatoes, locatelli cheese, butter, salt, pepper...delish
hi dc...your spinach sauce sounds divine
i brown the garlic in olive oil - sometimes i'll throw in some onion - add the spinach, i use frozen usually, and some more oil, then toss with a pasta like rotini or gemelli or such.
Anyone need any clues? Japanese spinach is good too.
it does!
or a fiorentina pizza. mmmmm!
i'm a fan of catalan spinach
no clues for me, Kaplan, but I'd love a recipe for Japanese spinach.
spinanch, garlic, and olive oil sauce ... yummy ... what's the recipe.
I'd also like that recipe for Spinach Pie. I am a spinach fanatic and it's so good for me.
just make sure you don't burn the garlic!
see 1:38 by me, merk. Salt, pepper, and Parmesan in it too
Never heard of catalan spinach.
correct, sprit, BROWNED garlic, not BURNT :D
A recipe? I'm not sure I have one but I know it has sesame oil and tamari
I will translate the recipe then, Merk, and will put it in my profile. But not today. Maybe tomorrow, if i feel ok. Good?
soak about a 1/4C of rasins in hot water for 15 min, meanwhile chop some garlic. Put rasins, garlic and spinach in a hot pan, and stir until browned, then add spinach, letting it wilt and mixing well. Uses as is, hot or cold, as a base for fish, or eggs, or as you like.
burning garlic is easy to do, in oil. I know, lol. Been there, done that.
(drain the raisins - left that out)
raisins? ooo
If no one needs any clues, I'll see you tomorrow
http://tinyurl.com/yf3ryad is the Catalan Spinach recipe i use. I prefer golden raisins (sultanas) in it.
be well, kaplan :)
utterly intrigued by raisin and spinach
so am I, am going to try that!
me too!
dc sounds yummy!
except I've just used all my spinach LOL
That's fine, Sprite. Thanks so much.
Tapas restaurants serve it as "Espinacas catalanes" or "Espinacas a la catalana"
oooooo it's kind of like a bastilla mix I make with chicken in
*shamelessly copying everything into recipe folder*
me too!
:)
just saw this on DC's page: Oatmeal-Banana-Raisin Waffles Recipe
*rushes in and HUGS sprite* (can't stay got distracted and still need to read more)
chow.com and recipezaar.com both are great resources
wait. you-all are STILL talking about spinach???? *shakes head sadly* man oh man, do we need to "get a life" or many lives, I suppose.
((((((((((((((((((stiddie))))))))))) A m thinking of you a lot and sending you heaps of energy to pull off everything you ask of yourself. Go, my hero :)
thanks sprite ((more hugs)) back later. *returns to lurk mode*
good morning everyone
allrecipes.com and hungrymonster.com are good too
yep, still spinach :P
hello lyn :)
hi lynxxxxie
hi, lyn
nice icon, lyn. Very royal.
Its for all the poor (snow) suffering souls in GB
it is as bad in the Netherlands. I will take it to heart as well ;)
Please dont forget the poor shivering souls in the US
I am so ready for some warm weather!
perhaps - for all the poor suffering souls in the Northern Hemisphere would be better
I am done.
I do like the cold and the snow. I like it even better when it is freezing, sunny and there is not much snow. But after a day, all snow is filthy and nothing looks pretty anymore. And as long as there is so much snow and ice on the streets, I must stay inside. Blerchhhh.
Yay Annie!!
gratz Annie
you have a big heart, lyn!
she's just being smug really :)
Are you getting more snow than usual Sprite?
much more, lyn. It is a winter like we haven't had in a lonnnng time.
but the good thing is, people are skating a lot, and having fun together. Lots of snowmen in the streets and gardens. Trees are incredibly beautiful with their white coats. Children are sleighing and throwing snowballs. Good stuff to look at.
not at all Ata, I could start whinging about the heat, I really don't like it. I'm hibernating too tomorrow - 41/108 blech - and today is just bearable
*hits lyn in the neck with a cleverly tossed snowball*
That should cool lynx off
You paint an idyllic picture Sprite
ick, yes, that's too hot!
that was the general idea, Annie, grin
not sure if any of you know the dutch artist Anton Pieck. He was very famous for his winter landscapes. Things look a lot like them at the moment.
I have to leave for a while..see you later, dear babblers
bye Annie, all the best to you
you too, sprite
BBS need to go and water my dehydrated garden in one of the 2 times during the week we are allowed to do so, and adjust all the sheets and shadecloths I have over the more delicate plants/trees so they dont burn. Oh and put some more water into the fish pond. Ah summer!
*looks him up*
wow lyn, that is a lot of work. Wish I could send you some of our snow.
I think you will like him, Ata.
Ah water shortages, i remember them well.
be well, annie.
had to reboot again. :/ i didn't restore sessions this time.
frustrating, seain :(
where is your pic, dc?
Evening all, just trying to juggle working with data on the laptop and PC - so not happening.
FM!!!!! *hugs madly*
hi FM :)
let my find it again, ata. Hi, FM
I have got to decide which one is the main workhorse and stick with it.
((((Ata)))))
absolutely adore your icon, FM
Hi spritey sprite
sprite, may we have a Chihuly icon day?
St. Edwards in Stow-on-the-Wold, England. i corrected the link in my profile for the original image
of course, Ata, when would you like one?
clue for po 5/12(one in the middle)
that's st edwards? wow, it looks prettier in the dark than it does normally!
can we do it in late/feb early/mar when we need a dash of colour?
whenever!
ack brb email is stuck in outobx on the laptop *huge sigh*
's ok, seain, let me check.
loool poor fm!
I know stow and st edwards very well. I totally didn't reocgnise it though!
how about Feb 28?
sounds lovely :)
back and thatgoodness email sent - work stuff and all that.
po5- plural, if i understand which you want
indeed, FM, wb
btw, I could really use some more input on icons. Anyone wanting to brainstorm here and give me some?
sounds good!
well done, FM
Hello dc, good to see you*puts on a happy face and some lipstick*
sorry it is after the double vowel one
mad fashion mistakes LOL
lacroix! talking about colourful things :D
I put it in, Ata, on feb 28. Oh good one!
Madagascan animals :)

Ah, nothing like a prod with a pitchfork to sort that out : D
welll i declare...first dachef now anj...
or we could really confuse her with Torchwood and Dr Who day heh heh
Ata, we will have that on May 4th. May the Fourth be with you.
hi TOwl :)
oh nice!
looool good one sprite
Brilliant sprite!
yes, we'll have to have dr who day for matt smith's first day
hi spritey!
Dachef?? Where? It's the weather bringing us out of the woodwork. Or snowdrift, more likely...
dan2bit is the one who thought that up for May 4th.
hi, TO
Perhaps we should have a vets day but then again no.
when is Matt Smith's first day and who is he?
dachef was on last night and his writing is published. wait let me find the website
www.oracleoftheseven.com
hi seain!
Dachef is moving to the US if I remember correctly.
yes. he's gone hollywood ;)
I was reading the log this morning and I think he is heading out to LA
fm btw have you heard of the band the big pink?
FM, when is Matty's first day?
Thanks T-Owl : ) That leads to an enticing pic, lol

I don't know Ata - haven't got tuned into the new Dr.

oh. Dominos. That song.
ata you don't approve. I turn it around.
Work, music, the call of the wild. The custard tub still gets a look-in tho' : )
I love it! Well, I loved it for the first 500 times I heard it :P
it's used on a car ad here every blooming time you turn on the tv :)
like phoenix is here. There certainlyis a new pop resurgence. somehow anj, i dont' see you on board with this :P
Ata, which ad? It's not the ****** Ford Fiesta thing is it?? The one with the crawling tv screesn...
I absolutely adored Domino and played it to death. I'll like it again in a few weeks
the custard jacuzzi has been kept up to speck but very few parties in the last couple of years.

T-Owl, my tastes are pretty eclectic. I've just been listening to Wallis Bird : )
puss
ok, I'm lying, it's an XBOX ad, just featuring a car :)
hi Nonnie, hi Pat
i don't know him. i am in the midst of reviewing submissions for the festival as we speak. mostly a dismal lot this year
Hello Nonnie and Pat
we get these big hypes about how wonderful these bands are in it is hysterical how you guys have not even heard of them! Friends traveling there asked specifically about some we like very much in this city and they had not heard of.
ok, any more nice ideas for icon themes? You guys were on a roll!
I apologise but I never went near the chat. My computer has taken over. Could it be Homer Simpson?
hiya sprit and mitch
I'm an utter Paul & Storm addict at the moment. And Jonathan Coulton
really ? thats a shame TO - so much talent out there but finding them I guess is the issue.
vampires. werewolves. angels. demons. faeries. leprechauns.
Ummm let s think sprite - Oh yes we could have fractals for Anj ;)
ducks!
Homer Simpson as icon theme or as the one taking over your computer?
nenes
maybe the snailmail stuff is better. I am reviewing on line and some are too lazy to even put in info, they direct you to websites. if i don't like your three samples, why would i bother?
...geese? : s
We will have the fractals in nature from Ata, FM, is that ok? Or do you want another fractal day?
no thats fine dear
Ata, nenes? As theme? I wish it were a plural anyway, lol
oh can we have bad spelling day LOL or a not blame FM day ?
or just geese!
owwww we can have both, lovely
no such thing as a do't blame FM day
How about Pixar characters?? I bag M.O
let's have a bacon day for Crossy
I wrote geese down, from anj and you
anj i have come to love miyazaki, but theme worthy
Oh yes!!! Bacon day for Crossy!! Great idea!
eggs

I looove Miyazaki
ohhhhhhh a kndred spirit!
Miyzaki is very theme worthy
miyazaki? Ok!
favs are spirited away and nausicaa
love nausicaa. love howl. love kiki
beer labels / beer bottles

how about a day of orange things. The chog looks pretty when we do colour theme.
*Oeuf
Murano beads!
true, seain
oooo great one Anj!
motorcycles maybe?
lovely! al murano actually! and love color theme
now that is an intreguining idea dc colour in the log does do well.
narrow boats / canal art
Maybe it is me. I stepped off a step badly and ended up on crutches at Xmas then my cat got hit by a car. He was in vet hosp for 5 days but he SURVIVED. I lost 1 stone all in all but I don't back it as a good diet. The doc, I didn't go to see him until this week, said I might have a broken leg or knee probs but I would be better off with a broken bone. Guess what, it's my knee. I live in a house with a garden full of four leafed clovers, a fairy ring twice a year so I think crikey without that protection what would really go wrong!!!
Let the colours run : )
is it Al Murano, or is it Murano beads, or is it all Murano stuff?
*waves flag for beads*
Murano beads / Murano glass
fairy ring twice a year? You are lucky! :o)
You deserve a break (in the good sense) Patx!!!
aw Patxxx, not fun! So sorry to hear that. *sends immediate reactivation fuel to protection rings*
ouch, pat!
favrouite shade of green / favourite shade of blue etc etc
Ata: narrow boats and canal art as one theme, or as two?
*hugs patxxx* Hope you're doing better
not sure how to phrase this but motor vehicles? like unusal ones?
one theme, I can't think of the correct term - FM? Pat? Is it canal art? all those wonderful narrow boat patterns / canal people art?
antique autos TO?
Thank you all. Really the worst part was that I was so uncomfortable I couldn't sit or concentrate long enough to BABBLE. That hurt. Not deserved,
narrow boat art I think - so identifiable.
or barge art possibly.
narrow boat art it is then! amazing homely art form
T-Owl, you could make it a George Barris day.
Pat, are they going to have to do surgery on the knee?
narrow boat art googles fine :)
lol good
I have Nonnie's motor cycles, what exactly would you like, TOwl?
thinking. i have a picture of a gm futureliner i love.
let me go change
amazing vehicles?
futuristic vehicles?
phantom: people
the car you have always dreamed of?

people who need people...
FMitch, that would be a snowplough just now : )
lol anj
lol so true Anj :((
lol i wish i could upload the one with me in front of the 5 foot snowpile i shoveled
TOwl, how about amazing vehicles / futuristic vehicles as one theme?
what about unusual vehicles?
My MR2 is burried deep in sn** and not sure when i am goingn to see her again *sob*
I put a question on my facebook asking for people's phobias. So far we've had eveyrthing from apricots, walnuts, metals, heights, butterflies, eyes, dead animals, rubbish bins, pigeons. Aren't people wonderful
only if someone else shows interest. i always love unusal creatures and also my latest musical interest
I have had surgery once already on the knee and guess it is inevitable but who knows what the latest solution is. Wait and se. When the snows go I will see the consultant.
F, I dug mine out today after a week. I swear it glared at me : (
oh my ata, i did not see that was it recent?

Urgh - flying ants for me. Horrible things.
doesn't have to be creatures. just any weird phobias / squicks
Although I'm not really afraid of them, just can't stand them.

goats are stinky - at least the billies are
goats milk cheese is heaven
ty to
i like goat milk cheese and yogurt
didn't like the ugali
never tried that so no comment
is ugali the spongey bread you eat everything with?
you are thinking of enjera which is ethiopean
T-Owl, sound s like a cross between Marillion and Genesis to me
ugali is a ball of mush grits mushed together
a good sound? or too derivative?
how bout cabbage rolls..yummm
eww!
there was chicken and collards and an odd banana dish
ohh stop atal
i will force feed u goat!!

(grinning) I know, just couldn't resist a bad pun. Ok, all new themes are in the list now! Thanks all for helping, and I am SO looking forward to seeing them work out.
ok folks time to go. happy babbling to all and to all a good night!
bye TO
BBL walkies!
byeee to
night TOwl :)
did anyone post nixon besides me?
A good sound but nothing that stands out for me on first listen (to Changing Legacy) It leans a little towards young Gods as well so there's a goof enough mix to keep it from being derivative.
jmc: I have been rather ill for a couple of days and didn't update or post icon themes, I am very sorry. Just updated to tomorrow, am about to go to sleep.

wow. new contenders for my fb friends weirdest phobias. Apricots. and praying mantises
160 i mean
i am phobic about bats
million it seems
160 down
then jmc you can't play base ball?
really? any reason? I'm being fascinated about random phobias today
other kind of bats oodle
I know
anybody got a clue for ap7/36?
i heard a bat in my house one night around 3 am and i went running outside in my very very light weight nitie and sat on the stoop til my first neighbor woke up at 5 am
awww!
why is sploosh not a word?
when i was a little girl in Houston there was a rabid bat epidemic
have a look on my FB, je. It's quite fascinating what people are scared of
well that explains a lot!
the sad thing is that this has happened to me twice in this house
hi DR
Hi Jmc
poor jmc!
i also was talking to a client in my living room when a bat flew in.
i don't know any of my neighbors who have had bats in their houses!
they *know*. like cats always go to ppl who hate them!
they must!
I think all animals are like that
like they are laughing on th einside know full well that you do not want them around
they probably leave a mark on my roof like the hobos did
"come here and scare the cr** out of the resident!"
exactly!
we used to have bats too, but we all loved them. and they don't carry rabies here
it is rare for them to be rabid here
we have bats but they do not bother us because there is a river nearby
and they go to eat there
it's lovely not having rabies here
jmc, I don't know if you'd know at all, it's nothing to do with your area of expertise but ...
what is it about the river DR
what?
who is it best to get advice from about all the million different ways of moving to the US? do you know?
river = good insect life
I would probably talk to an immigration attorney first
are you planning to move here?
we are "meant" to talk to the US embassy first, but I just have this strange feeling that talking to them will get records started and my intentions fully monitored etc
I really hope to, yes
I can give you the email of my late
my late friends immigration law firm
oh ty!
trying to work through the consulate web site is so impossible
but i doubt the embassy has time to fully monitor inquiring brits
i will send it to you through fb later
where in the U.S.?
I guess not. But with security levels at the moment, I dont know ...
Oregon. I just don't want to screw anything up by putting something in writing to the consulate that I shouldn't. etc etc
evening everyone
hi katie!
hi katie
pini will be delighted!
she will :) stiddy too!
Evening all. Hi Katie, Ata, everyone else.
hi sally!
Reading back in chog a bit. Is this just a you-and-hobbit move, Ata?
yep! well, me hobbit and the monster cat :P
watched greys anatomy all day but hubby has now put his foot down and we are watching the news followed by match of the day (with only two matches on!!)
*silverclaw faints*
Uh-huh.
silverclaw is far too fast asleep to faint :P
You'll have to teach silverclaw the language.
she understands American, she's meet my american best friend a few times. anyway, she knows that any imperious meow or movement she makes is internatinally understood anyway
dont move in the winter
they are having horredous weather right now
Naturally a British meow will sound superior to an American cat.
oops- spelled wrong
absolutely, Sally!
Why isn't hoss a word? They have them in all cowboy films.
agreed
and hosses
atalante - i moved here in 99 by getting married to a US citizen. I don't know if that helps with your situation, but one key thing is to keep copies of all your paperwork (which there will be a lot of) and be prepared to pay pretty high fees for application!
lol. Don't think your reason for moving will apply in Ata's case, somehow, Erin.
We talked to a couple of fairly reasonably priced immigration lawyers who were v helpful.
Shrug. Just thought it might help
if I was getting married, it would be much easier! However, I'm getting divorced over here and wanting to move over there to get some good distance!
Wasn't getting at you, Erin!
lol but my best friend has already said she'd divorce her husband so I could marry him as a final resort :P
As far as I know they don't let you in unless you have a relative to sponsor you, a spouse or an employment situation.
that is very noble of her
I wouldn't do it lol
So that marriage might be your only option, atlaante!
that's the issue - how long can I come over for on a holiday / volunteer work basis, and then can I swap to a work visa? That's the ideal option
Does husband know your decision yet Ata?
The standard tourist visa is 3 months. You can apply for a 6 month visa, but they might not give it to you.
he knows, but chooses not to acknowledge
Tough on you Ata.
yeah ... do you know if I can extend the tourist visa over tehre? or do I have to come back here to reapply?
laundry calls.. bbl- good luck Ata!
If you can find an employer who can prove to the USCIS that they couldn't give the same job to an American, that would work.
and I'm not sure if a tourist visa covers voluntary work, or whether I can get in on an academic visa to do voluntary work in my area
I don't think you can extend a tourist visa - I wasn't able to.
Things may have changed since year 2000 tho.
hi buddies, it's good to be back
and I can always do that - as another last resort, my best friend - who is a writer - will employ me as her PA. And no-one else could do that job because I know everything about her work and stories and have editing experience and she couldn't train up someone else as well as I could immediately do the job
so we're kind of counting on that, unless I can get fish and wildlife / ports authority to give me a job straight away, but that's unlikely cos of the job situation out inAstoria
That sounds like a good way to go, Ata.
hi Gwen :-)
That might work! They might want to interview both of you.
but I'd love to volunteer for a year with Fish & Wildlife to build up connections in the area. I just don't know how that works visa wise. I know F&W will do it!
okay i sent the attorney's name and email to you ata
and I don't know whether I need to ask F&W, the US embassy here or what - did you go through the embassy, erin?
TY TY jmc!
I went through what used to be the INS.
They were not exactly welcoming, but I guess immigration's not interested in being welcoming!
it's soooo complicated. anyone would think the US hates us :P
Did you find it difficult to settle to American way of life, Erin?
I think i went to a local immigration lawyer, and he advised us what to do and what forms to fill out.
God yes!
it is now the bureau of citizenship and immigration
local as in when you were in the US, or local over here?
The US immigration policy is to hate all foreigners, I think! THey can make you feel pretty small!
Yeah, USCIS
Local as in Boise Idaho.
I was once very involved with an American guy, but I don't think I could have given up my country.
so - sorry, I'm being pernickety here - but did you go over on a tourist visa, and then talk to the immigration lawyers?
Yes, atalante.
it is better to talk to the attorney's before you come
ty! sooooo complicated
If you let them know your intentions before you go there, they get funny about letting you in! It seemed to be better to get there first then deal with it.
yeah ... but that's exactly what I'm worried about, erin
could I have a clue for the long an words please
I hope you don't think me unpatriotic for leaviing Sally! I love England. I miss it loads
a+what you catch fish with+dig a **** in the ground to plant a tree
if I had them, you could :)
Talk to an immigration lawyer before you leave, maybe
pl
drop the final letter of the 8 and pl
that is 8/9/8
No, of course not!! In the end it was a choice I just couldn't make, that's all. Also I had a young son and I didn't really think I wanted him growing up there. I hasten to add I have nothing against the US or Americans! But I had to think of my son's grandparents and so on.
ty I would never have got them by myself
i didn't either katie
I can imagine having kids already would make it hard! I was 22 at the time and didn't really know what I was getting into. You think you can do anything at that age.
should I leave so you can talk about the U.S. freely ;-)
Do you come back very often?
It's funny for me having 2 little boys with American accents. OK, jmc, I'll shut up now.
lol jmc. No, just don't look!
lol
May I please have a clue for the lower right E? I need it for NBT and I can't seem to do anything with it!
I've visited the UK four times in past 10 years. So I guess not. (Pricy)
NM! Just got it!
volcano mount for the e
eh7/8=gasoline from corn
it's such fun talking to about the US :P
i think that is quite a lot Erin, given the distance and cost
I love Oregon, Atalante. It reminds me of England a lot.
Just make sure you have broadband and Babble access Ata.
Get your priorities right.
oh yes, Sally :)
Lol
Oregon really is like the UK. Just as much rain.
if I could go anywhere it would be Vancouver but I get homesick 70 miles from Tamworth so I know where I am settled lol
yeah, I feel less homesick when I visit western oregon.
lol Katie. I think you're probably the nearest Babbler to me.
I feel more at home in Oregon now than in the UK. I so desperately want to be out there, and I just feel sick at the thought that the US might not let me be there!
one fo my closest friends is in Kinver which is quite close to you
are you knee deep in snow sally?
We'll have to have a Babble meet in the area!
I'm sure it'll work out, atalante - just takes a lot of time and patience and persistance!
Yes Katie. No post since Monday, no milk or papers most of week. A friend walked up to nearest village and collected them today, and another friend with 4WD went and got husband's prescription.
We're all doomed!
su 7 plz
I hope so :) and yes, I'm totally prepared for that!
You must have quite a bit of snow there too Katie.
we aren't too bad at the moment but they are gritting the roads less and it keeps snowing. I fully plan to work from home on monday as all the driving is causing me too much stress
su 7: to propose something
I really want to at least get to our local farm shop tomorrow - that's our nearest shop - to stock up on milk and beer!
i don't have a clue to su7 to you
Luckily I'm retired, but our lane is only passable by 4WD or tractor, so I'm getting cabin fever a bit.
found it thanks
hi inge!
we went shopping on Thursday. Hubby (who is usually a rubbish driver) is actually really good in bad weather and they were gritting our hill then so it was OK.
hi, jmc and Sally and Zoe, and Katie and all babblers
hi inge
i am freezing -- need to turn up the heat brb
lol Katie. Take it he doesn't read this! Sadly husband not allowed to drive at present (medical reasons) and I won't attempt to drive on an ice rink. Our lane has not been gritted :-(
Hi Inge
It took me 1 1/2 to get to work on Friday not much longer than usual but that was because the traffic was so light. I had to battle up the hill, dodge the sheet ice falling off lorries on the M6 and then drive through snow on the A14, I told my boss not to expect me in until the thaw!!
lol sally he has just tried to look at the screen and I had to distract him so he didn't see it
You need to have the news or something serious in anaother window so you can flip to it with lightning speed :-)
I've got lickety in another window (the old way) but didn't think of it!
Hello everyone :)
lurking are we?
Hi Jilli
Just got here --28 left from last night's effort
Iknow it's a fish but could I please have a clue for the second he4/5
nm I've just got it
This grid is waaay too long
Good evening to my fellow babblers! How is everyone?
By the way, congratulations to all the finishers! YAY!
hi min
Evening everyone
Hello Good Enough! How are you? Welcome to the grid
Hi Minver and Good Enough. Sorry, was deep in the grid.
hi goodenough
Hey MIn!
Hi Jiili and Sally
I've been indulging in mai tais all afternoon so I'm not sure how effective I will be tonite
ooo! how lovely for you!
at the moment quite lovely...later??
hi folks ... back for a bit ... don't know how effective i"ll be either, having had 2 glasses of wine and it's only 3:15 :-)
Hello origami! How are you doing?Welcome to the grid
Cheers origami!!
yep, i'm turning into a lush :-)
hi everyone that has just come in. I'm on wine and it seems to be helping lalthough it is gone 11pm here lol
Feeling left out. Will go and pour a drink.
hi katie - just starting now but will keep that suggestion in mind ; )
sally, I think I'll do the same!
maybe there's a 12 step program for babble too :-)
We spent the afternoon having lunch with our college friends and we are 20+ years out of college. 38 of us at a great crab restaurant - yum!!
That wouldn't work, origami, because the first step is that you have to want to give up!
Evening, all
I feel soooo pure -- just had a cup of tea about an hour ago
aaaah yes, well i guess i don't want to take that first step quite yet
Hey Zinnia
hi zinnia
Hi Zinnia.
hi origami
Anyone else using Babble to put off doing something else? Like finishing putting away the holiday decorations?
pa4less is not a word? hmmm... already starting to not like this one
Maybe the wine suggestion would help
prob
I feel pure again -- did all the chores first, like filling the bird feeders, sewing on a button, etc etc
kje, I've found this grid friendlier than most!
Will you come take care of my family Jilli?
I wish I could say the same Jilli
sewing on a button? Faints.
I'm just starting jilli
No way, good, I've done my chores for the day (except getting supper later -- it's 3:29 pm here.
we shall see
but I have mai tais.....
I didn't know buttons could be sown back on lol
I know, sally -- it's such a strain. But it's been waiting since just after Christmas.
Can you send one to Texas?
that would be why I have hundreds of untouched packs of buttons in a draw upstairs
(Mai tai, not button)
*sending mai tais to all my babble friends*
This Christmas? It needs another year to mature yet.
I love the clarification TXZ
Ahhhh, that hit the spot!
lol, sally!
If you leave buttons for long enough you can no longer fit into the clothes they belong to, and your problem is solved.
I like the way you think Sally!!
lol sally -- that's my approach to just about everything
oh, youo're full of good advice, sally!
Glad to be of service. Perhaps I should write a book of Helpful Household Hints.
my two hounds are self-feeders but do eat a lot. i got tired of filling up the food bowl so purchased a really big plastic bowl. filled it up this morning and neither of them have touched the food all day. freaks!
Excellent idea, sally.
sounds like hobbit. except now she suddenly wants scooby snacks
clue for the second an 8/45

Hi torg!
Another day in paradise ..
all part of global warming, jilli... the ice caps are taking up new residence in the deep south
It's pretty warm today ..
it's been crazy -- all of Gt Britain covered in snow
Had a nice walk .. Lunch by the bay .. good day ..
I like snow ... I missed it when I was on the other side of the country

Hi all. We've not long got home from the cinema. Went to see 'Avatar' in 2D. Didn't fancy 3D version, as the only seats available were front row ones.
back
hi jacula!
were you impressed, jac?
I'm back to find my final 22 words.
wb nrk
jilli - Yes, I enjoyed the film but thought that it needed a 'comfort' interval, since it's 2 hours 35mins long. I also think fantasy artist Roger Dean's work has been ripped off to make it.
Hows come pa5/12less doesn't work?? Without britches seems like a valid concept ..
torg - I tried that word, too. LOL
tor, I completely agree!!!
25 to go...
I haven't listed yet, but I think I might have to so4.
I just had to, and boy did that make it a lot easier to find those AN7/8/9/8 words

Well done, nrkii! *~*~*~*
Congratulations nrkii on your fireworks! Good for U!
Yay nerky!
thanks :)
Jacula, a word of advice on the list... at least half of my last 25 were just plurals I hadn't seen the first time around, which was really annoying
speaking of lexulous, nrkii, it's your turn in our game :)
hurshy, hi! it's my turn in about 15 games... I got too tired last night to play
nrkii - thanks. I'll try adding 's' or 'ae' to everything first.
Hello hurshy! How are you doing? Welcome to the grid
Oh yeah .. I started a game with you too, nerky ..
but I'll go do that now... bye everyone... happy babbling!
evening all - if anybody wants to start a lexulous game with me, feel free!

Goodbye nrkii! I will see you tomorrow in the chat log

Hello dan2bit!How are you doing?Welcmoe to the grid
'Bye nrkii. Thanks for the help and advice.
i <3 world's strongest man.
Hi Dan, hurshy, Min.
how to do that dan2bit?
any other strongman fans...?
I think it might be adjectival forms I've missed; just found a po7.
Hello Babs1! How are you doing? Welcome to the grid!
Hursh - my ex MIL used to swoon over Geoff Capes in the programme many years ago.
my minvers! haven't been on the chog for awhile...just come by and play for a brief bit and watch all you choggers!
oh, i don't find them attractive. i watch because it's the total opposite of me, no brawn at all. it just amazes me.
ha! minvers...mistook Nixon for Bush..hee, hee!
i just discovered that the first year of the competition was the year i was born, which makes me feel pleased.
Hursh - it used to make me laugh how she swooned over this massive hairy man who was the complete opposite of the man she was married to.
Babs1, easy to mix one up Bush and Nixon, they both were bad Presidents!Theme today is Nixon's birthday
G's Gone! 10 left
Hursh - 1977 - tht's the time I was talking about. It was also the year I got married.
oh..is there some attraction to celebrating Nixon's birthday?
Now I feel 'old'.:(((
well marius pudzianowski of poland is 5 time champ and is now also doing MMA - can't imagine how scary it would be for his opponents!
but they aren't sure if he can get from 320 down to the max MMA weight of 275... he's ALL muscle.
Not sure, why it was the icon theme. I see no reason to celebrate Nixon in any way, but it was the theme.
MMA= mixed martial arts - eg ultimate fighting championship... in case anyone wants to know.
Just found the ap7. I really should have got that before now.
I just got that word too, only because of clue in chog
A's Abolished! 9 left
ep6 found now - 14 to to. Still resistin' listin'. LOL
the dreaded 14!!
let me know if you want help...
Yes, Hursh. That's when it gets tough. I will. Thanks.
I'm at 62 remaining and I haven't a brain cell left, so I'll check the lists to see if it triggers a dormant gene....
ha6/21 is whipping my b*** - anybody got a clue for me so I can sit down?
Hello PAV3! How are you doing? Welcome to the grid!
Hello bojazz! How are you doing? Welcome to the grid

Hello Oodle. *Claps handcuffs on Oodle, reads rights and arrests for arson.*
FMitch is rebuilding the PB as we speak.
Hello oodleberry! How are you doing? Welcome to grid
!!!
*gives jacula an evil look*
I am the one who gave her the wood to build it MUAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA (EVIL LAUGH)
*decides she'd better supply FM with bricks*
Oodle - as you've been told, the PB is a bit of fun. If you'd been here in the early days of Babble, when nj and Lola were roaming free, you'd have seen the bubble bath champagne parties, mud fights etc.
Hursh - good idea!
I am done! I have fireworks!pe6/21 was my last word
Well done, Min.
no pb then, just hot tub
Yay Min!
Congrats MIn!
And I was going to give up earlier with 54 words left.
hursh - we did get the pb around that time, but it's only Haz and myself who recommend hard seats, stale bread and rationed water in there.
I will be here for the rest of the night to help w/clues
6 to go...
Go Jacula go!
Just found another adjectival form I'd missed, lo7.28.
good enough... you don't happen to need an apt, do you? my MIL has a very nice in-law apt to let in south elgin...
Hursh - Nope. I have a comfy home, thanks.
well, if things go poorly with my family tonite I may be looking for a place...
not you jac!
what's going on, GE?
Oh, sorry Hursh. I wasn't quite sure who you were addressing.
did not know you had relatives in GE and my neck of the woods, hursh!
GE's name is too generic, lol
:)
yep - was just there for christmas
what! that is like less than an hour from me
maybe - generally generic?
Just found ne7/28 (2nd), without anything to catch fish in.
Hello LeslieAnn! How are you? Welcome to the puzzle!
hey min
you're looking very non-crookish today
Hi LeslieAnn.
my sisters both went to wheaton, too.
this is just silly i have not known this before.
a tasty ne7/28, eh?
but, i can't visit babblers while out there. my husband disliked it enough when i took time out from his family to spend with my sis one year - he is very big on visual evidence that i like his family.
ah i see
we don't see them nearly as often as we see my family so it kinda makes sense
Hi guys!
Just got the pe6.24 (female bird who doesn't have the showy tail the cock has).
*still wondering what's wrong with GE's family*
Hello beachboggle! How are you? Welcome to the grid
thanks jac...had 25 left after first run through list
just kidding! were all home tonite and getting on each others nerves!

howdy ibd

hi crossy! brrrr, your poor pupster. he's going to be afraid of you and the cold!
and afraid of windows
you must be right out on the coast then jilli
most definitely, GE! lol
just beyond the coast, crossy, between Vancouver and Vancouver Island.
Just found po4.5. The shafts before without the final vowel.
lol,we had one of our cats lay up on the windowsill yesterday and she is a big longhair type and she must of leaned against the window for a while cause her body heat melted all the frost on the window and then it refroze, freezing her fur to the window lol! i had to use the hair dryer to get her unstuck!!
2nd column greyed, down to 11 left
oh dear!!!
Cross - LOL. Poor cat.
Go Pav!
omg, crossy, poor kitty!
so the cat as well as the dog is afraid of windows
so the sills are verbotten for the duration of the winter for the kitties

1 to go now. Just found po7/32 - to have or to own.
the animals?? im the one that will need therapy!
column 3 greyed!
no dbl windows, crossy?
they are old and need to be replaced soon
the windows, not the pets
cross - the windows or the cats?
i ho4 you mean the windows and not the animals!
yes hurshy i briefly made the same mistake
lol yes the windows, not the pets..well our oldest cat is about 16
4th row greyed, down to 6 with one p and of course those dreadful an's
I've found that pets tend to replace themselves. My old dog sent me a cat to comfort me. Odd, since he hated most cats. But she was quiet, kind and gentle just like he was and her right ear was split just like his.
1 to go - an s4.

'Bye Hursh.
Cross - I'm glad that was cat 3 and not 33. I thought yu'd had a lot of bad luck with pets, or you were A Mad Cat Man.:)
Have you made those mufffins yet, btw?
hi everyone. I know I came in late but a cat got stuck to a window crossy?!
I did home-made beer-battered cod and chips last night and I still can't get the smell of fried fish out of the house. At least the steak & kidney pudding I made the day before (which we finished off tonight) didn't stink the place out!
Hi Eva.
hi Jac
hi eva
Do you still have Merp?
yes indeed-or he still has me
greeting lbd
Eva - glad to hear he's still around, and yes, I stand corrected.
Glad to hear you're still around too, btw. LOL

Well done PAV. *~*~*~*
whoooo hoooooo PAV!!!
I shall make some sugar cookies as a treat...
Congratulationsn PAV3 on your fireworks! Good for U
Well, the cat sat there for so long her body warmth thawed the ice on the window and then the window froze again, trapping her fur.
eerrg
i hate when you forget to enter a word on lickety and spend time looking for a word you already have
now that's one for the record books! How did she get unstuck?
hair dryer
amazing!
Crossy had to gently unstick her, Eva.
Merp usually spends a lot of time hunting in the basement at night, but when its this cold his safaris get shorter and shorter. He's lying in bed snoring now.
:)
I can't imagine our cat ever making that mistake.
Eva - Tiggsey's just the same!
we don't have ice on the inside of our windows for one
Good Enough, that wouldn't happen if you were using Babble Expert
how do I do that Jilli?
I forgot to feed our cat before we went out to the cinema for about 4 hours this evening. He did a 'Simon's Cat' the moment we walked back in.
what's that Jac?
if you have a PC and not a Mac, you just email Lickety and he will send it to you free.

Did you know that Scrabble was invented in 1938 by an architect named Afred Mosher Butts?I just saw it on the Kidz Only Music Choice station.Trivial Pursuit was invented in 1979, also according to Music Choice
Hello car.eeyore! How are you? Welcome to the grid!
Hello Darling Min!
car, I am so proud of tertiare tonight, i can't hardly tell you!
i'm glad to hear she and jonny are happy in france.
DO tell me!
we were all at games night at church, and she and nikki asked darren holbert to come play wii bowling with them, and they played with him the whole night, helping him hold the clicker right, cheering when he did well, etc. In all the years I have been part of CHUMC I have never seen him so animated and talkative. I about cried.
Oh Trif! That is so wonderful! Tell her she is awesome!
I texted her that.....I miss her so much tonight.
You have some awesome kids ..
she was way outside her comfort zone, but she stuck it out, she and nikki together. I could tell a lot of people were seeing them together, and it was so cool
I have goosebumps!
Why out of her comfort zone though? She is very good with other children.
she has a good role model, trif!
I need to write it down, for all the days when she is so difficult. I am so glad that deep down inside she is wonderful.
Ahhh yes! Bank it!
I am so sorry that you are feeling so punky, my lil buckaroo!
And I got my period. Someone, just shoot me now, please!
We did have a GREAT time at the hockey game last night though!
you know that stays in the chat archive forever, right car?
oh, I am so glad!!!
Oh, I'm sorry. Am I the only one who cycles here?
Everything else is mentioned in the chog...why not that?

OK...what is going on with "throwback" soda made with real sugar!?!?! Saw the Mountain Dew at the store and gasped out loud!
hi all, I'm back from supper
speaking of pa5, see my icon ;)
primo brought home a can of something they sell at the school - something ridiculous like 34 grams of sugar in less than an eight ounce can. I don't know how they fit in anything besides the sugar!
Nice Jilli! Glad to see my pa5 are making someone happy!
That's a lot of sugar ..
Better save those pants for Primo!
PB box for car
its bad enough that stuff exists - the fact that they sell it at the school is almost beyond reasoning
rats!
LOL car!
TRIIIIIIIIIIIIFFFFFFFFFFFIEEEEEEEES
i thought schools were disposing the sodas and sugared snacks.
I think they are dispensing rather than disposing!

just stopped in to say Hello to everyone. I am working on the grid slowly but mostly involved watching a stupid movie that was made in a house I know. Wonderfully beautiful house - stupid movie!
BUGS! hey there!
hi bugs!
where is the house, bugs?
hi you guys. I didn't want to appear rude but the movie is getting more of my attention right now
Hello Bugsaw! How are you doing?Welcome to the grid
ok I am back
Hi bugs
or Bugs even
that's okay Bugs, lurk away, and stop by during the commercials!
The house is here in the Comox Valley but it was moved here from Victoria where the movie must have been filmed. The people who live in it are a wonderful family, full of love but the movie is a horror one. They told me a movie had been filmed in it but their kids are so little they would never let them see it.
ach -- too many horror movies these days
I do not watch horror movies
wow. what a strange story, bugs! is it an older house then?
It is fun to see the house before their renovations. I find the renos very tasteful!
It was a beautiful house made probably in the 20's for a wealthy family. It has maid's quarters off the kitchen so it is dated. The windows are all leaded glasses triangles or wooden panes about 8" square
I do not watch horror movies also DR1965. Don't like them. I end up closing my eyes through most of them
it sounds pretty
Maid's quarters (sigh!)
20 left. feeling "nibblish" but not hungry...
wow Bugs, that sounds pretty (the leaded windows)
lol- 21 left here
phantom: baragouin
It is very pretty DR
go DR go!
stid, did you see my new icon?
Curved staircase, a little room like mini sitting rooms outside the downstairs bedroom, bp
not yet jill -- (not now, too... racing DR!)
sounds lovely, bugs
racing ???
sorry,,,, private baths off each bedroom etc
I was not racing..
I was using you as a guide
oh! sorry DR, misunderstood! LOL *relaxes again*

Whenever I babysit they just pl 4/6 down on the couch&watch tv the whole night. Th4/5 they go to bed.Last night, I was able to return some ph 4/6 calls I owed people. I got them ne 6/18d in their beds at 9:00. Goodbye DR1965! I will see you tomorrow in the chog
and yes jill, I will look now.
are the 8s or 9s two words? if so, do they use le**, opp. of more?
that is a wonderful icon pic, jill! too cute!
I thought it was fun
the pe 8/9 is compound, is that what you mean mkg?
the AN 7/8/9/8 are variants on a single word
ty stid.
mkg, start with the 1st an8 -- a+ what a fisherman might use + cavity.
The an7/32 is an plus friendly alien plus dig a ***e mkg
I need to rest a bit. back later. *poof*
ty jilli. got that one.
if you get my an8 clue, drop the last letter for the an7.
ty min. got it.
an 8/45 is an7/32 word plus vowel and an9/60 is the plural of an 8/45 mkg. Sorry about bad clues before.
need more for pe 8/9 combo as well plz
For the 9, pl the 8.
dont have an 7.
for the 2nd an8, pl the 7.
pe 8/50 is pe 4/5 word plus ho 4/5 word and plural it.
i have the an 8 45 and 9 60 but not others.
dont have an 7.
I gave you the clue for an7, mkg. Just look below.
I gave you a clue for the an 7/32 word at 11:04 mkg.
mkg, you ask for too many clues at the same time.
ty got an 7 now. missed it before.
got the an 8 from the 7 too. ty.
Pay attention.
night all. must get to bed.
Goodbye mkg! I will see you tomorrow in the chat log
nite, mkg!
Hello kimmtoats! How are you? Welcome to the puzzle
May I have aclue for the ap please, then firewords I can head for bed again
hi Min! Thank you.
I am doing okay, you?
things seem to be a little tense here, huh?
Not usually so tense, but it can get tense sometimes.
ya'all may just call me Kim.
ap7:is the loss of an initial, usually unstressed vowel, as in cute from acute Bugsaw.
hi kim :)
hi, Jili!
ap + masculine pronoun pl + give an **timate on the cost
t
ty jilli and hello...and happy new year
hi justy!
happy new year to all too :)
same to you, just -- when do you head south?
on the 21st....
haven't been well though so haven't been around too much
getting excited?
oh dear! Flu?
mixed feelings....
no had my h1n1 vaccine....pain in neck shoulder arm for couple of months now :(
Fireword finelly Thank you all and goodnight
YAY bugs!!! Not staying for the flip?
g'night bugs! Good job!
thought it would go away so didn't bother calling doc....now he's been away for 3 weeks won't be back til monday
been living on aleve (now available in canada)
well, I guess you'll be calling the doc's office in 2 days!
Don't think I will stay even tho you are all so wonderful. I have had a long, bad week and need sleep more than I need distraction. Happy Babbling
well his receptionist knows that I'll be there to get the req for xrays ...
Oh, so sorry you've had a bad week, bugs!
no chance of finishing this ...just started less than 1/2 hour ago
too bad, justy, it's a nice grid
more than 1/2 way but .....not good enough
was busy all day ...my son's 28th birthday (9th)
Oh, just looked at your icon, justy -- belated happy birthday!
to YOU, that is!
so our best friend who live in Van are going to join us there jilli hope it'll be a good time
thank you
I feel every minute of it these days
friends*
hi all, and happpy birthday to your son Justi
hi flosey!
thank you flosey....in 1982 he was my birthday present!
justi, we can help you - if you made 1/2 way in 1/2 hr, perhaps you can finish?
hi jilli
Another cutie in your icon, flosey!
thx flosey but you know how it is....first half is a lot easier and faster than the 2nd half lol
clues available, justy :)
oh, what a lovely gift - my son, here in my icon was his Dad's b'day gift 45 years ago, Jan 20th
ooo nice flosey...and my father's birthday was Jan21st!
he arrived early just for the occasion
my mother's was Jan 25 (Robert Burns's too)
mine did too...his due date was the 23rd! he was too impatient (and still is somewhat) but marriage has tamed him a bit :)
aha, wasn't your Mother Scottish jilli? or was it your Dad
Dad was the Scot -- mother half Scot
it doesn't bother me if I don't finish the grid....that should be my biggest worry (blush)
My mother used to say the only reason Dad remembered her birthday was because it was Burns's.
well, it's more fun chatting
yeah for sure flosey
it does help when it falls on another occasion, Jilli
fireworks!
wtg rbud
YAY lurky rbud!!!
congrats rbuddy
and what a beautiful icon you have
fab icon, rbud!
I'm only missing 1BT the top right e...
wasn't exactly lurking, just hurrying! :)
just, it's ep4 go left 3 and diagonal down 1
and then pl it
understand rbud
thx jilli got it
wtg justy!
ooo merci
that ep 4/6 was one of the last few words I got, that and the eg5/6
well, grammatically wrong, but you get the idea.
funny, I got those quite early on -- found this grid very pleasant
I did too jilli
well got the Jewish "carry" lol
ah, but I listed before I got them, and I work from the bottom up.
I list when I get nbt (if the list is there)
had all the A's before listing, yay
here, depends on how much time I have
I do too jilli but try to have nbt's and at least 1/2 way which I now am, but maybe won't even bother listing
those long As were hard but there were clues given
I'm like that, too, flosey, list if I think I'm running out of time.
tomorrow is an easy day, couple coming over for a visit in the afternoon, but no stress
I'm sorry, but being without slacks should be a word...I see it with my fiance often enough!
no stress is a good thing
yes, I agree leigh
lol, leigh!
well, I have bridge tomorrow afternoon, so the grid will be 378 with no S or IER or ED etc, lol!
Just stopping in for a quick hello. Hope everyone is well!
Hello leighprefect! How are you? Welcome to the grid
we'll stick with it tonight then jilli
hi leigh -- you're not the only one who wanted that word
Very well, Min...you?
all good here, huddling by my space heater...
I had a sleep after this afternoon's bridge, while sweetie cooked supper
lucky you, flosey!
Mmm...sounds like a wonderful day, Flosey.
for sure jilli, he's been doing a lot of it lately
Son and wife went out for dinner tonight for his birthday so been busy making stuff for Mom's birthday dinner and cake for tomorrow..
Hubby did all the cooking in latter years -- he really liked it.
that's how you became spoiled for kitchen duty then jilli?
I guess so
rbud,I SO look forward to seeing your icons. Theyr'e always great! Your butterfly is the best yet, love it!
My hubs is a great chef too, but his partner is on vacation now and so he's working non stop 2 weeks 70hr weeks :(
my son does all the cooking, his wife does the cleaning - first son, not Nathan's Dad
ouch, 70 hour weeks are too much
I am off to change my icon. I will be back for the flip.
see you then Min
but then we will go and when we come back he'll be rested and partner will be there!
Hubby did lots of cleaning too. I never was a comfortable cook -- no experience, no teaching by my mother.
that's what it is when you own your own business flosey...
although, Nathan's Dad is also a great cook, just doesn't have time - he does the BBQ in summer
my mom was that way Jilli
but she had to learn fast, Dad being away long hours
My hubby was retired when he took over the cooking.
the worst part about cooking for me is thinking up what to make...otherwise no problemo
just, one of my siters-in-loaw used to say she wished they would invent a new animal.
I use to really love it when we were 6, but cooking for 2, I find not as easy
lol lol
cooking for 6 puts me in a tailspin!
not when they are added one at a time jilli
we bbq all year round...hubby built a "shelter" for the bbq on the deck right off the kitchen patio doors...that helps a lot
but not when the temp goes below -10c or so
sounds great Justi - we had the bbq on the deck off the diningroom - then it was closed in and became office
I have a bbq on the deck outside the dinette, under a roof -- very handy
but tomorrow's birthday dinner for son will not be bbq..
temp here today was +10C
what's on the menu, justy?
yes, quite nice today jilli
oh wow jilli positively balmy...right not it's -16c with wind chill of -23c :(
now*
brrr
jilli and I will both remember those temps justi
furnace is chugging away....
well the temp here is 30deg C. hello all
oh yes
hi granny
I'm sure you do flosey....better that it's a memory than a reality!
Hello grannyrose! How are you? Welcome to the grid!
hi hot granny ;)
granny hugs hi
hey min, jilli, flosey, just
hope you and your leg are well
slowly, slowly, my friend.
I'll soon be in 30+c with humidity temps :)
where are you going justi
but you'll be cooled by the ocean breezes, justy, I know
Acapulco flosey for 2 glorious weeks
lovely - enjoy, and keep well
and soooooo thankful it's not a US destination with all the craziness going to the states
thx flosey...sure hope I won't break a leg lol
Have you heard about the Halle Berry nutsness that happened here at Trudeau Airport by any chance?
when we went there in the 60s we flew to Detroit, where there was a huge snowfall and long delay, then to Mexico City, then by a little Aeronaves Mexico plane to Acapulco. Can you fly direct now?
oh yes, heard about Halle Berry -- I get the Gazette headlines online.
Theres only 1 direct non stop flight from Mtl to Aca which is on Thurs...
hi all, and what happened with Halle Berry?
darn, screen froze...must have been your cold weather report...
That's great, justy. I take it you'll be on that?
this year I will be taking that but in previous years I couldn't because the resort was only booking fridays...
actually the temp. got to 33.6C today.
Oh, what a pain!
great justi, such a nuisance having to transfer
Hi VolleymomDee! How are you? Welcome to the grid!
but because they are "accomodating" me for my "accident" they allowed us to got thurs...
hey dee
yes jilli I will (thankfully(
hope the extra day is free justi
hey granny; hi minve; hugs jili; flosey, just
Hi dee hi -- Halle Berry and her bf were escorted past all the waiting passengers to get a flight -- queue jumping, shrieked the protesters.
hi Dee
((((Deee)))
did she queue jump?
oh, their baby was with them too -- this was in Montreal
Halle Berry has a quebecois significant other...they have a home north of here in the mountains which the went to for the holidays....
yes she did
