umm....wellin university my best friend was arab jew....her mom taught me to cook their foods..later married..moved where i am now...took my girlguides to the mosque for a cultural awareness badge..got to know one of the ladies there ( she wear hijab all time ) and...she and i just ..wellu know when u meet someone and u just click..u laugh u giggle like little girls and just "know" eachother...?...she and i were like that..immediately
and she found i know how to "cook" ie their food....and the mosque here does a charity dinner 2ce a year...1ce for a local charity...1ce for international..all food donated...by the people at the mosque..so the ticket sales are pure profit forthe charity...and its become an "institution"

we have a communal clay oven in our village now, and usually make pizza in it, but would like to try pita
would work well
the only problem with the clay oven is that it takes so much work and time to get it up to temp-about 3 hours and a lot of wood, so we only do it for special occassions
anyway...last time we did haiti, we did local childrens rotary centre ( disabled kids)candian land mine foundation ( raised anough to train a bomb sniffing dog)

We just had our co-op annual meeting and dinner last night but that was only for 60-roasted veggie bisque, african peanut soup, chicken soup, curried broccoli salad, carrot-raisin slaw, garlic bread, hot fudge sundaes, chocolate cake with ganache, macaroons, all made by the board members.
and then I assume that everything has to be halal? Is that easy to get there?

nope... i borrowed a pan from the mosque....but no they not that worried....i took food for our breakfast... they as a community cus things can be hard to get..try when possible to adhere
I worked in a kosher organization for many years and have to say that is is such a relief to not have to worry about kashrut for these events. Especially since doing that in rurla Vermont would be very, very hard
and as they have "accepted me" into their midst ( i am sister in law---that another big giggle ) they have to accept
but they also know that i try to adhere as best as possible...i bought cutting sheets that have only seen vegetables...
there's something about a large group of women cooking together that is one of the loveliest things in life for me....it becomes a dance and so much gets done in such a relaxed way
yeap....we have alot of fun..we call them "cooking parties"

i love turkey at christmas but we have xmas lunches with work and friends and by xmas i am fed up with it - we have had beef wellington on xmas day. I love a good goose

Goose isn't very popular in the US for Xmas. It's usually roast beef or turkey. I had a Terducken once and liked it.

Mrs. Cross has good taste. "The Green Mile" is a wonderful story. Although I must admit, I have no use for reading on a screen. I love the feel of a book in my hand, and the way a book smells.
