gd morning. Yesterday, at about this time, one of you ladies from Australia suggested that Max might have mange. I googled it and am pretty sure he has sarcoptic mange. AArgh. I am not looking into treatments and am very grateful for your help, as he is really suffering!

haz, lynxx helped me figure out what's wrong with Max and I think he has sarcoptic mange. When I googled it, the photos could have been Max. I'm waiting for my vet who makes housecalls to casll back

He'll probably have to do skin scrapings etc to make sure of the diagnosis, possibly not easy to do at home so he may need you to get Max to the surgery. I'm glad you're getting him properly attended to instead of trying to imagine what's wrong.

Well, wait and see what the vet says, he's the expert.
hopefully, she can do the scrapings, take them back to the lab, and get the results that way. And, also hopefully, there will be an oral medication because he is very fearful of being touched.
Fearful of being touched anywhere or just on the sore parts?
he only lets me pet him occasionally and then, only on his head and ears. And that's a big improvement over the way he was the first two years when we couldn't touch him at all

I don't know what the treatments might be for sarcoptic mange, if that's what it turns out to be.
Max is much better since he has been on prozac. When he approaches me, he licks my head and sweater and frequently settles down near to me and his sister.
I've read that a solution of borax and hydrogen peroxide works best, but getting him into a bath will be very difficult. If it was warm, we could bathe him outside in the dog bath, but it is very cold right now
ruby, wait for the diagnosis and for instructions as to treatment, no point worrying yourself before you need to.

Haz - I was telling Ruby about Advocate, the monthly flea, mange etc treatment I use for Stew. Topical application. Do you know if that is available over your part of the world
I haven't heard of Advocate, lynxxx.
But I see it's made by Bayer so it's probably available.
Sorry, butting in gecause only have 5 minutes before I go out. We have Advantage and Front Line here which I used to get for cats. Both topical, but I think both only available from vet.

Not sure if you can here (or in France) but there must be the equivalent available from the vet. We don't actually have to take the animal in, just go in and get it.

yes, he had all the classic symptoms of autism but when he was 6 months old, I read one of Temple Grandin's books and she suggest Prozac for that malady. Since I put him on it, he is much more responsive, sometimes lets me touch him and actually approaches me and licks my head and, more important, makes direct and compelling eye contact!

She is doing great..she goes back for a day of testing on the 23rd to make sure it is all gone and then we see the doctor on the 24th. After that she goes back every 3 months for test and check ups. I never thought I would be thankful for Lymphoma but it is treatable and curable. After being in and out of MD Anderson Cancer Center and watching people so worse off than us, our battle was nothing compared to some of them, especially the children which just break your heart. We consider ourselves blest

I just googled the tylenol poison case and it has taken an even weirder turn. Although no one has yet been prosecuted for the actual poisonings, they did convict a guy of sending letters to the company demanding money in exchange for stopping the tampering. Now he's written what he calls a novel called Poison, about a guy who randomly poisons people. Hmmm...Chicago prosecutors are still on his trail as a suspect in the actual murders.

It's true that people are imperfect, but the criminal justice system could be made a lot better than it is. Mainly it's a question of resources--we'd rather spend to incarcerate than to be sure that the system is putting the right people away, unfortunately.

he sounded so sad on the phone, i just knew something was wrong... when he came home, he told his friend and the friend told me. i called the cops and took my son to my moms and had to stall off this guy for a week while they were getting a warrant. went to court in penn. and here. he had good lawyers, called my kid a liar... medical exams were disputed... it goes on and on... the justice system sucks and that guy goes free

Times have changed for the better, I think - when it comes to prosecuting child molesters. I know the cops I work with feel nothing but rage when they deal with an accused pedophile. They hang all the charges on them they can. Delaware is also lucky to have an AG who is big on prosecuting these low-lifes - and has written even more legislation to see that they are tracked and watched.

first two weeks in december, we have to make any changes we want to our benefit selections for the coming year. i had some money left in my flexible spending health care account and wanted to use it up during the grace period, so i called to ask about that and was told that was fine, i just had to temporarily turn off the auto-claims-processing feature and submit the claims manually. i was NOT told that they were switching companies, so i go to submit the receipts and it doesn't say anything about which year you want to submit for. so i call up our own employee service center number to ask what to do, and i then find out about the switch. not from someone here, though - the phone transferred me to someone in the new administering company without informing me that it was doing so.
i don't mind them switching things or transferring me but i do wish they would SAY SO, so that i don't look like an idiot.

we have a 15 year old cat(domestic short hair) and she was poping blood and vomiting and crying while trying to poop.the vet diagnosed her with colon cancer as she could feel the colon restriction with her finger exam( the x-ray was clear,but the are in question is hidden behind bone) she said we could do a biopsy to confirm and perhaps a pull through operation.but the wife and i do not want to extend her agny soley for our purposes.is this viable or even reccomended for a 15 year old cat?

Would depend on your circumstances and what else is going on with the cat. If she already has kidney issues, I'd be skeptical of putting her through that surgery when the long-term for kidney disease is so grim anyway.

no... you don't usually see anything cancer specific in blood, though some will cause an increased calcium. i'd be mostly wanting blood to evaluate the rest of the cat's condition--if kidneys are borderline, then anesthetic and stress may tip them over into a clinical kidney problem

that's true car... i have no pets at the moment, had 11 cats at one time; lost Gidget to old age a year ago (at 18) and Mutsky (17) last year in just a few weeks just got really "old", hearing, physical agility, sight just went kaput. she went off into the woods to die. It's time for more. Having had so many, it really doesn't get any easier... pets are people too
things to consider too... if this is resection to alleviate signs, but not cure, then you have to (unfortunately, money in the real world) balance how much it's going to cost with how long you expect to extend her time, and decide for yourselves if it's worth it for you.

I always say "no more" but then I fall in love again! I have to disagree though...pets are NOT people! That is what makes them so great! and... be easy on the vet. despite having a ton of crap dropped on our heads in school, we often get out of university with NO IDEA how to explain things to real people. we spend 4 years being told "use your doctor words!" and no time to learn to translate that into actual english
we and sam were VERY lucky and we are still paying for his treatment after 2 years but it is worth it- let your vet be your guide and god bless
also, despite medical training, a lot of vets (and mds) are still terrified of the word 'cancer'... which is why onco referrals are such great things

wow, onco vets... didn't know that. the vet i used for years had his office on his property (a true country doc). he had 14 dogs/cats and related to the animals like no one i've ever met... ever. i never got a bill for Dakota until six months after his surgery because the dr said i needed time to grieve not worry about a bill

stid, I remember all too well, those horrible migraines - had one that lasted a week and I really wanted to end it all
I got really sick, then 3 weeks afterwards got crippled up with pain and swelling... have RA which has disintegrated spinal fusions, my spine collapsed and i'm slowly losing the use of my arms. wear a necxk brace, back brace, ankle and wrist braces. pain 24-7 and headaches that make the migraines i used to get seem like a walk in the park. i'm not operable. In a flare I will gladly let God take me, but I keep reminding myself of what i told my mom before she died: "God will never give you more than HE thinks you can handle." (yes, i changed it a bit) not what WE can handle, because at times we all think "I can't take it anymore" but HE thinks we can. I could go for days, but why bother. RA and sjogren's is quite enough. Other than that I'm great!
I was close last night flosey, but my dear friend (who is a doc) dropped by out of the blue and visited and told me the pain should be gone today. and the pain is mostly gone, but I am still having some trouble with all the other symptoms. luckily tom is still home, so he is taking care of me.

i had a brain scan when diagnosed with adhd and had lots of therapy on how to make life work with add, but he never mentioned autism. I asked why i could do puzzles (brain puzzles) and get answers so fast but not know how. he said mny brain just works that fast

My sister has a photgraphic memory (as does a cousin or 2), I'm pretty much average, but my daughter has what's called eididic imagry. She can remember things she's heard and seems to have a brain that remembers odd things.

I have maxalt, but I only had one dose with me, and it doesn't do much when the migraine doesn't have an aura.
I know pini, don't worry. by the time we are old ladies (in 80 or 90 years) you'll be dressing in pink gowns that just drip with pearls and rubies.
so I used exedrin when the pain was really bad this weekend and that made it manageable but didn't help me see well enough to study.
